Ellen Degeneres Satire Essay
As Anne Frank once wisely stated, How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before
starting to improve the world (citation???). She probably was not thinking of satire in entertainment
when she wrote this, but I think it fits perfectly. Satire is a technique that aims to reform society, often
times through humor (I used parts of definitions from pdf... how do I cite it). There are popular
television shows that employ this technique in order to better the world. In Ellen Degeneres daytime
talk show she satirizes politicians through a skit that pokes fun at people who are against issues such
as: gay marriage and reaching across the aisle. The Ellen Show is famous for its humorous interviews,
monologues, and skits. In one particular segment, Degeneres pretended to be candidate in a 2016
Republican Presidential Debate. This statement alone proves the use of farce because it is both
improbable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this skit, she imitates a serious situation, the presidential debate, in order to comedically ridicule it.
For example, one of the moderators asks the candidates what they would do in order to win enough
independent and democratic support to become the next president, to which Degeneres responds that
she would support both sides of the aisle. The other candidates look angry or confused; then, she
claims that the best support is Ellen Underwear and they all nod their heads in agreement. This
satirizes people who are followers and just go along with what other people tell them. It also satirizes
politicians against reaching across the aisle because it appears that they do not have a good reason to
be unsupportive of this. Degeneres is making a statement that a politician has the potential to be more
successful if they are willing to work with everyone. All of what Degeneres says is lighthearted,
however the audience understands that she is working to reform

Jay Gatsby Great
I think Nicks reasons for thinking of Jay Gatsby as the great Gatsby , is because Jay Gatsby has done
or said he has done a lot in his life to get to where he is today. He makes himself sound very good
when he tells nick everything in the car. Nick was sort of shocked by how successful he is or was. Jay
is not keeping his past from society; he s more open with it. People decide to make up these rumors
because Gatsby was never really noticed by anyone to be able to tell the truth about everything he s
done in his past.
I think another thing that makes Nick think of Gatsby the way he does is Gatsby s past. Gatsby came
from literally nothing; He was dirt poor and wanted nothing to do with his parents. One day Gatsby
happened to come across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gatsby doesn t exactly belong in the wealthy group and his outsider status is very important. Gatsby
plays a person who does belong in the wealthy group. So, Nick s is surprised at Gatsby s ability make
his dreams come to life making it seem so easy. Gatsby kind of just plays a part.
Nick thinks Gatsby is great because he was able to create a new identity for himself when he needed
to be someone else. Gatsby s strive to accomplish things amazes Nick. Gatsby focused on a goal of
winning Daisy, and he did whatever was necessary to accomplish it. Gatsby never quits from his goal
and dream of winning Daisy, and even in reality, his strive is admirable , and somewhat
misunderstood. All Gatsby wanted was to be with Daisy, and for her he moved up so he could be equal
to her in the same status. So that she would notice him and would return the feelings back to Gatsby.
I think Nick saw Gatsby as great because of the things he achieved and the way he achieved it.
Although Gatsby was not from old money he made it seem like he was from old money. Something
Nick thought was especially interesting. But what I think really got Nick is when he found out Gatsby
wasn t really Gatsby and that he dealt with illegal things all in the name of love to get

Voter Capabilities
INTRODUCTION
Citizens, politicians, and officials have been in heated debates on whether Americans are capable of
handling their responsibilities that are given just for being a citizen. Voting is a personal choice for
Americans. The fears of losing rights and freedom have been present for many decades and centuries.
Everybody is concerned that citizens may not be as free as they once were. People fought hard to
make every American citizen free. Citizens who complain that our government is not perfect and is
not doing well for the United States are people who usually do not even vote. One vote can make a
difference. Citizens are extremely concerned with our rights and freedom, but do not even attempt to
make a change. Citizens are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Citizens are not always informed when they go to the voting booth and mark their candidate. If the
democratic system depended solely on the qualifications of the individual voter, then it seems
remarkable that democracies have survived through the centuries (Barleson, Lazarfeld, McPhee; p
209). Every voter may be qualified, but the voter can still lack information. Barleson, Lazerfeld, and
McPhee recognize that individuals do not meet the standards that Political politicians necessarily
agree with.
Evidence based Argument
Voters do not have enough information to make educated votes that are best for this country.
Americans will sit around and complain about the Democracy, but attempt to do nothing about it.
Numbers speak for themselves; if every citizen that complained about the Democracy voted, there
would be a change in the world. Every vote counts in America and everybody has a voice. One cannot
stress how important it is to gain information about current politics. Information is found everywhere.
Information can be found online, on television, in articles, and in books. Reading a little bit can go a
long way.
Americans need to take the time to find information and their rights would be safer. Americans are
entitled to rights and freedom, so they give up the responsibilities. Americans are dependent of others;
they want others to make the right decision. Every citizen is responsible for them and will not always
agree on the same decisions

Date 11th November 2014
Introduction
Geert Hofstede developed the first empirical model of dimensions of national culture. He was
recognised internationally for the model that includes Power Distance, uncertainty avoidance,
individualism vs collectivism and Masculinity vs Femininity. The Dimension of Hofstede that is the
basis of this report is uncertainty avoidance. Uncertainty Avoidance is how society reacts to an
unusual situation in a feared or fearless way, it demonstrates the truth of that society (refer to Clearly
Cultural ), an example is the current fighting between the Islamic Terrorists and the team ... Show

In your country of origin it is normal that people are not treated equally (Graph 4)
In your country how formally do you speak to people in authority, for example teachers, managers,

Discussion
It is evident from the survey that Australia is similar to the Philippines in terms of Uncertainty
Avoidance. Both countries shared similar views and the majority of results were reasonable and not
unusual. These two countries are seen as a safe place to live from the results of the survey. Geert
Hofstede had his research on the comparison of Australia with the Philippines with Australia on 51
and Philippines on 44. This comparison is very close with a 6% difference and demonstrated the
similarity of results between the two countries on the survey. The survey didn t have any obvious clues
that could demonstrate a significant difference between Australia and the Philippines. Therefore it is
seen that the uncertainty avoidance is alike between these two countries.
Australia and the Philippines are seen as Safe Countries. When people travel to

Disadvantages Of Food Additives
Food additives are chemicals that are added to foods to keep them fresh or to enhance their color,
flavor, or texture. They might include food colorings, flavor enhancers, or a range of preservatives.
Most of the time, food additives are listed on the product label (along with other ingredients), spelt out
in full or with a code. Some common food additives may include; artificial sweeteners, high fructose
corn syrup, monosodium glutamate (MSG), trans fat, common food dyes, and many more. It all
depends on what type of additive and your body weight/height to determine the limit of these
additives you should have on a daily basis. Artificial sweeteners are a sugar substitute that provides a
sweet taste like sugar, but contains less food energy, and are usually genetically modified. Effects of
artificial sweeteners can include messing with your hormones, making you overheat, increase the risk
of diabetes, and they pollute your water. They can also cause weight gain, metabolic syndrome, and
cardiovascular disease. High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn starch, it has been
processed by glucose isomerase to convert some of its glucose into fructose. Being that high fructose
corn syrup is not natural, it is not healthy at all. It also has many dangerous effects if you consume to
much. Some of these effects include; weight gain, cancer, fatty liver and liver stress, increased
cholesterol, heart disease, etc. It is best to stay away from products that contain high

Moscrop Hallway Assignment
I sat near the window as a pop of orange then a strand of yellow started to appear. They gradually
wove together in intricate patterns leaving a trail of light behind for the sun. The concoction of colours
slowly revealed the barren world filled with nothing but white snow, sprinkled on its landscape. The
sun followed pursuit of the blend of colours as it began its journey to the skies. Its rays penetrated
through the windows bringing warmth that seeps into me along with the cold, frigid air of the
Canadian winter. I would stay still to admire the view until the trance was broken by the familiar
pressure of the student s feet on my back.
A hallway is like the colours and the students are the sun. I am the path way that the students follow to
get to wherever they need to go, without me they would be lost. If you pass by the hallways of
Moscrop Secondary, you would notice the dull walls with paper flyers stuck to it and the grey and red
lockers permanently attached to it. You would look up and see an abundance of paintings of flags and
pictures exuding positive messages and you would think it was nice, just nice. Then you would
continue on your way not even noticing the floor you stand on that made it possible for you to view
the dull walls and the paintings on the ceiling, not even a glance. Well, that s alright, people tend to
over look me as just something to stand on but you don t see it the way I do. The way I view things, is
that I am the pillar that supports the walls

The Wars Of The Roses
et was a decisive engagement in the Wars of the Roses, a dynastic conflict of 15th century England.
The military action, along with the subsequent Battle of Tewkesbury, secured the throne for Edward
IV. On 14 April 1471 near Barnet, then a small Hertfordshire town north of London, Edward led the
House of York in a fight against the House of Lancaster, which backed Henry VI for the throne.
Leading the Lancastrian army was Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, who played a crucial role in
the fate of each king. Historians regard the battle as one of the most important clashes in the Wars of
the Roses, since it brought about a decisive turn in the fortunes of the two houses. Edward s victory
was followed by fourteen years of Yorkist rule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On their return to the battlefield, Oxford s men were erroneously shot at by his allies commanded by
John Neville, 1st Marquess of Montagu. The Lancastrians lost the battle as cries of treason spread
through their line, disrupting morale and causing many to abandon the fight. While retreating,
Warwick was killed by Yorkist soldiers.
Warwick had been such an influential figure in 15th century English politics that, on his death, no one
matched him in terms of power and popularity. Deprived of Warwick s support, the Lancastrians
suffered their final defeat at the Battle of Tewkesbury on 4 May 1471, which marked the downfall of
the House of Lancaster and the ascendancy of the House of York. Three centuries after the Battle of
Barnet, a stone obelisk was raised on the spot where Warwick purportedly died.

Different Types Of Bitmap
Bitmap
A bitmap image is an image that is stored as pixels, each of the pixels can only be one colour at a time.
As the image is stored as pixels when the image is increased in size the image then becomes pixelated,
this means that the image will loses quality. The files size for a 200x200 image will always be 118 Kb.
A bitmap is usually use for photos that you have taken on a digital camera which are for example
JPEG files(13).
Lossless
Lossless is a type of compression, when the file is compressed the quality still stays the same when the
file is reloaded and all the information will be restored completely. This method of compressing files

There are loads of output mediums that improved so that designing and creating graphical images will
become easier and so that the quality of the graphical images will improve. Not only has their
appearance changed by also but also what you can accomplish with the devices. Some output
mediums that have changes are mobile phones, printers and monitors.
Mobile Phone
Mobile phones has impacted the design and creation of graphical images the user can now take a
photo using their phones and on can phones the quality will be better than some digital cameras.
Mobile phones are probably the most used output medium nowadays. Before phone could take photos
they could only create contacts, call and message. When the messages application came alone so did

Ultra High Temperature Ceramics (UHTC) Essay
Ultra high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) are materials rarely found in nature, characterized by high
melting points, hardness, thermal conductivities (if compared to other ceramics), good wear resistance
and mechanical strength.1,2,3 Besides, they are chemically and thermally stable under a variety of
conditions due to their high negative free energy of formation.1,3
The materials that fit in these criteria are ceramics compounds made of borides, nitrides and carbides.
As a result of having those properties, this class of material can be applied in extreme environments
such as extreme temperatures, chemical reactivity and erosive attack. Because of that, in the 1950 s,

Environmental Degradation Of The Environment
Many individuals will argue that population growth or technological development are the primary
causes of environmental degradation. There is also a third cause of environmental degradation that
people hypothesize, which is our values. These people believe that major values influence population
growth and technological development. The argument is that values are more important, and influence
population growth and technological development. Key values come from national, racial and
religious cultures and are transmitted via other people, institutions, popular culture and mass media.
Lynn White argues that humans have damaged our world and we need to craft solutions. White puts
the blame for environmental degradation on our religious views. White s argument explains most
environmental impacts well but does not explain the scale of these impacts, more specifically the mass
amount or rate at which actions are taken that degrade the environment.
White argues that Judeo Christian values are the reason for the exploitation of the environment and
furthermore the major cause for environmental degradation. The religious beliefs influenced science
and morals because Christianity is the most anthropocentric religion the world has seen (White 1205).
The destruction of Pagan beliefs made it possible for people to exploit nature and feel detached. The
bible gave people dominion over nature because Man s effective monopoly on spirit in this world was
confirmed, and the old

The Great Terror Robert Conquest Summary
With Robert Conquest s first edition of The Great Terror published in 1968, critics acclaimed that his
work was a spotlight on the atrocities wrought by the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Since then, with
new sources and statistics coming forward, there have been two reassessments published by Conquest.
Regardless of edition, the author attempts to provide the reader a gripping account of Stalin s mass
purges where millions were murdered and millions more were sent to Soviet prisons in brutal,
inhumane conditions. Furthermore, to give the reader a well rounded view of this period Conquest
writes about more than just the gulags. He shares his research on the Moscow Trials, the vicious
methods for obtaining false confessions, life in the labor camps, and much more. These topics all
provide for a bleak picture of life in the former Soviet Union during the reign of the dictator Stalin. ...

As with any other use of first hand accounts, the reader is presented with a more potent form of
storytelling that is easily diluted when the author describes the action for the audience in their own
words. For example, Conquest quotes Polish politician Zbigniew Stypulkowski to describe the
appalling conditions in the Soviet prisons where with cold and hunger and almost no sleep, a man
becomes like an automaton his eyes are bright, his legs swollen, his hands trembling. In this state he is
often convinced he is guilty (pg. 125). By using such striking quotes, Conquest accomplishes two
things. First, using eyewitness accounts better retains the reader s attention by placing them directly in
the action with those who lived it. Second, these testimonies give more credibility to the author s work
by showing that the author s interpretations and the real life events support each

thinking about what this means personally. I do not know what the first thing is that may come to your

gone, and you will have to resolve this in a civil manner. Or, it could be that you are really looking

The family is what engulfs and reflects these aspects of a society. It is affected by the political beliefs
of a country, and it also reflects the social and economic standpoints in a society, most specifically
women s status. As we recently learned from Dr. Carmocolias, kinship, or the family, is one of the two
oldest and most important institutions in the world (religion is the other), and I find it quite interesting,
because I found the most significant correlation between the two. Two main aspects that I found most
influential on the family were religion, and foreign influence, and I will now summarize my findings
in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Greece.
Turkey is a prime example of the division between urban and rural family life. This is a country that
was greatly impacted by its rich history. The influx of Europeans, due to the commercial treaty of
1839, marked a period of rapid urbanization that changed family structures and brought opportunity
for women in the workforce (Duben, 7). One point I concluded here was that the change in household
structure mirrored the change in family structure. The European value of independence was adopted
by urban upper class families, and this later showed in the architecture of the homes (Duben, 201).
Family life in rural Turkey is still traditional, and maintains, for the most part, the patriarchal system.

The Iron-Sulfur-Made Up Hypothesis
There are many different ideas of how life began on Earth, and it seems that people can not agree on
one. Scientists believe that life must have began as early as 3.8 billion years ago, but they still can t
decide on how it started. There are many theories that explain different ways it may have began.
The Primordial Soup Hypothesis was presented by The Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English
Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane. They came up with this idea in 1920. In this theory, they thought that the
combination of some chemicals and a source of energy made amino acids, which later evolved into the
first life on Earth. They believed that life started in an ocean or pond. In 1950, Stanley Miller and
Harold Urey did an experiment to test this hypothesis by mixing gases from Earth and sparking the
mixture to represent lightning. The conclusion came to be amino acids. These scientists thought that
this hypothesis could be correct because the current scientific level did not show any problems with
their ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Time capsules are a box type thing that you place in the ground, and when a certain number of years

The Effects Of Lead On Human Population
The effects of lead in the human population have been an issue since the early civilizations because
lead was found in almost every item used for eating and cooking. In the 1950 s, houses were built and
the first choice for plumbing pipes was made of lead. The paint used to cover the interiors was lead
based. Children s toys were also coated with lead based paint. Nowadays, lead can still be found in
some glassware; however, the government has banned the use of lead in the rest. Lead can be
introduced into the body through inhalation or skin contact. However, ingestion of lead is the most
common way of it being transported into the body. There are a few symptoms that are caused by lead
poisoning in the gastrointestinal tract: stomach pain, weight loss, decreased appetite, constipation,
diarrhea, unusual taste in the mouth, and a blue line around the gum line. The two problems that occur
with these symptoms are that they can be misconstrued as symptoms for other diseases, such as
appendicitis. These symptoms occur only when lead is at high concentration in the body. Being the
foremost pathway for intake, absorption in very dependent on the gastrointestinal lumen environment,
amount of iron in storage, and age (Rabinowitz, 1980). These variables can either increase or decrease
the absorption of lead. The gastrointestinal tract is a system of organs that are responsible for digesting

Economic Factors Affecting Chinese Production From The...
3D Printing China
This is a study about economic factors affecting Chinese production from the imputation of 3D
printing. 3D printing or additive manufacturing is the process of making a physical object from a three
dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material such as
plastic. Increasing application of 3D printing particularly in consumer goods is expected to drive
market growth over the next few years. Additionally, declining costs of 3D printers and 3D printing
materials is expected to play an important role in the growth of the market over the next few years.
Furthermore, growing demand for 3D printed objects from the healthcare and military sectors is
expected to positively influence the growth of the market during the forecast period. THESIS. 3D
Printing will have slow growth in the Chinese economy. Production in china is heavily invested in
mass production, currently 3D printing is limited in its ability to mass produce. Traditional production
and robotic production are still more effective at mass producing. However, 3D printing will have
impact in the Chinese economy where custom production thrives.
3d printing
3D printing can be used for both personal as well as commercial applications. Commercial
applications accounted for over 90% of the market revenue. Polyjet was the widely used technology
and accounted for around 40% of the market revenue share. Polyjet are expected to be the fastest

Liberals LOVE Gun Control Essay
Liberals Love Gun Control
Gun Control can be called the acid test of liberalism. All true
liberals must favor stricter gun controls. After all, doesn t the United States
have the most heavily armed population on the earth? Are we not the world s most
violent people? Surely these facts must be at least casually connected.
Therefore the apparently desperate need to do something about the vast
quantity of firearms and firearms abuse is obvious.
Guns are employed in an enormous number of crimes in this country. In
other countries with stricter gun laws, gun crimes are rare. Many of the
firearms involved in crime are cheap handguns, so called Saturday Night Specials
for which there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The moderate gun control groups propose measures such as
requiring an individual to successfully complete a firearms safety course before
being allowed to possess a gun, or to wait for a mandatory period of time before
taking possession of a gun.
Today, there are approximately 20,000 different gun control laws in
existence, ranging from those enacted by municipalities and states, to those
enacted by the federal government. Gun control is ineffective and tougher
sentencing of criminals and stricter parole policies would do far more to combat
crime.
Statistics show that Canada is less violent than the United States.
Fewer guns are only part of the story. The inner city slums of the United States
are murderous, bombed out looking places. American visitors to Canada s big
cities often ask where the slums are. The answer is that there really aren t any
slums, and the lack of violence there reflects it.
Canada s more generous welfare benefits and universal health insurance
have made for safer cities. The contrasts between extreme wealth and extreme
poverty are fewer and less striking. Poor inner city families do not
disintegrate to the extent they do in black American ghettos. Canadian murder
rates in big cities are about the same as in isolated rural areas.

personnel selection system? The company recognizes that there are problems in the existing personnel
selections, so they delegated the committee to address the problem. The new selection shows promise
as it improves the the old selection process. Some of the strengths include: 6 eye method : This 6 eye
method is the newly developed process where three people will be analyzing the qualifications and
suitability of the applicants. Compared with the old assessment conducted by external consulting
firms, this ensure reliability and credibility as the firm can find candidates that they are actually
looking for. This preliminary selection allows the recruiters to focus more on the knowledge, skills,
abilities, and others (KSAOs) of the applicants. As people have different judgments and opinions, this
provides a just screening of the candidates without any biases or prejudices involved. Although time
consuming and costly, this process ensures that all potential and promising candidates will have higher
chance of being selected. Phone interviews: This method has been proven to be very cooperative and
beneficial to many recruiters. Since this is considered as the first direct contact with the applicant
without incurring any travel expenses. In addition, the phone call can encourage the applicant to listen
to a question and respond it in their respective time and manner.

The Innovation Of Cancer Treatment
Cancer, since the beginning of history, has plagued humanity and claimed countless lives. For
thousands of years, doctors could do little more than watch with horror as their patients succumbed to
the often fatal condition. There is still no definite cure for cancer. However, while one might say that
treatment is still in its infancy today, therapies have evolved dramatically over the last century. The
innovation of chemotherapy marked a turning point in cancer treatment. Dr. Sidney Farber, a pediatric
pathologist, is regarded as the father of modern chemotherapy due to his success in inducing remission
in leukemia patients through the use of chemical agents. Through Dr. Farber s innovation,
chemotherapy strengthened the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, while there is no cure for cancer, various treatments are available depending on the type and
severity of the disease. Generally, tumors are surgically removed. This treatment is most often
combined with other therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy ( Types of Treatment ).
The earliest records of cancer date back to ancient times to an account on the Edwin Smith papyrus, an
ancient Egyptian textbook on surgery and medicine. The writer described a woman with several
tumors on her breasts along with the doctor s futile attempts at curing her. For their conclusion, the
Egyptian writer simply stated that there is no treatment (Bushak). Even though cancer has existed
since ancient times, its basic genetic background was not discovered until 1902. Theodor Boveri, a
zoologist, found that a specific type of mutated chromosomes could result in cells with an unlimited
ability to divide. These types of mutations were likely the result of exposure to what are now known
as carcinogens, or cancer causing substances. Carcinogens include pathogens, radiation, chemicals,
and numerous other environmental factors. In 1902, even though a more complete understanding of
cancer was available, the only available treatment options for patients was the removal of surface
tumors. Due to the metastatic nature of the majority of these tumors, purely surgical treatment was
largely ineffective. In non tumorous cancers, there

The Importance Of The Post Office
The United States Post Office was established by the Second Continental Congress in 1775. The Post
Office has been part of American society for almost two centuries and through the years it has been
changing with America. It was an important method for people to communicate in the past, however,
is it relevant in today s society? The issue of eliminating or keeping the Post Office resulted in a
controversy among the United States. The Post Office should be eliminated due to the debt the post
office is facing each year, more usage of technology, and slow modifications.
Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution offers the Congress its powers and limits. According to Article I,
Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, which is known as the Postal Clause, empowers
Congress To establish Post Offices and post Roads. The Postal Clause has been interpreted to provide
Congress the authority to appoint post offices and mail routes. Therefore, Congress has the power to
carry, deliver, and regulate the mails of the United States as a whole.
The first issue the Post Office has been struggling with is accumulated debt. For the past ten years, the
United States Postal Service documented annual losses around $15 billion. (usatoday) Furthermore, in
2012 the Post Office was unable to pay out their retiree health benefits of $11 billion. In 2013, the Post

Designing A Bedroom With Vintage Style
If you love vintage decor, the bedroom is a great place to begin decorating, especially if some of your
items have sentimental value. The top of a dresser or chest can be used as a display place for items
with personal meaning, and the rest of the room can be decorated with color and style in mind. From
fancy floral tissue holders to framed tabletop photos, the space can ooze with old fashioned charm.
Use these ideas for decorating a bedroom with vintage decor, and turn back the hands of time while
creating a comfy place for rest and relaxation.Hang a Grouping of Vintage Paintings with Composite

those with gilded composite frames and paper on the back that has obviously darkened with age. They

with the decorating theme of the bedroom, or go with an eclectic arrangement of pieces from around
the same time period. The largest painting in the first photo was displayed for decades on my

similar style. I found it at a local resale shop, and I purchased it because it reminded me

Steven Crane s Role in the Literary Revolution and an...
If it takes a revolutionary to topple the general way of thinking, Stephen Crane is that revolutionary
for American literature. The dominant literary movement before Crane s time, Romanticism,
originated in Germany and England as a response to classicism and soon dispersed worldwide.
(McKay 766). Romanticism stressed the power of the human conscience and the intensity of emotion.
It was essentially a spiritual movement, fiercely conflicting with the rigid rules and standards of
classicism and the restraint of the Enlightenment. The belief that all humans embodied a unique
greatness was widespread. Further along in history, however, came a man who sought to destroy this

Crane s literary skills were also influenced from a very early age; his brother was a newspaper
columnist who lived with him at home during his youth (Szumski 14). Similarly, his parents were
educated and civic minded, used to making persuasive speeches, admirers and cultivators of the
spoken word (Szumski 14). Even while being raised in an environment with such high moral
expectations, Crane soon displayed signs of independence. He dropped out of Methodist boarding
school to attend a military academy, where he developed an interest for poker and baseball, according
to colleague Harvey Wickham (Szumski 14). Following a life path deviating more and more from his
family s traditionalist beliefs of faith and purity, it is clear that through these factors Crane would hone
his literary skills to combat traditional norms. Crane s decision to write a story in a context (the Civil
War) with which he had no experience showed that this stemmed from his desire to dissect the
philosophy of individualism in a setting where no societal influences exist. The fact that he also does
not mention the meaning of the war and its battles demonstrates his desire to make an Everyman of
Henry: he is any young man of any era facing a trial by fire in any battle (Johnson 25). The
groundbreaking theories of Charles Darwin, an English naturalist of his time, influenced Crane s
attack on individualism. Darwinism s implications questioned orthodox religious

The first type of vines that was brought into Chile was the vitis vinifera. The vines was brought to

that they did not violate any laws and should not be forced to pay back taxes. However the most

The Irish government knows that if Apple is forced to pay back taxes that they will conduct

worldwide. In America today the potato is a facet of everyday life from the mashed potatoes we eat
with our fast food chicken, to the potato that is a staple with pot roast, to everybody s favorite
McDonalds french fries.
The tomato is another plant that has acquired global prominence from humble origins. It originated
with the Inca and migrated north to the Maya and the Aztecs, where the Spanish brought it to Europe,
and like its cousin the potato, it is a member of the Nightshade family. The tomato took sometime to
gain a foothold as people believed it to be poisonous, but when it took off, it took off energetically.
The Italians and French were the first to embrace it. Today the tomato is taken for granted as a
common menu item. We consume it everyday in pizza, Italian food, and in almost any salad you can
think of. It is the main ingredient of two of the world s most popular condiment s ketchup and salsa.
There is another member of the Nightshade family that has made an incredible journey from its
humble origins member is the capsicum or chili pepper. When the Spanish came to the new world

The Effect of Gender on Response Time Essay
I. Introduction Since the last decade of nineteenth century, there have been many experiments and
approaches that were conducted to analyze which group men or women had a faster response reaction.
Those experiments were about human response time which is the time needed to perceive, evaluate
and respond to a particular question, or to identify the object, color. Sometimes, the response time also
shows how smart people are, or how much information and knowledge they have. Franciscus Donders
was the first scientist to analyze human response time. He tried to convince everybody that men and
women had different response times (Donders, 1969). Zajdel (2007) also performed the same
experiment and concluded that men reacted faster than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the information, this experiment is about recognition reaction. According to the types of
reaction times, there are many factors that may affect reaction time such as gender, age, race, right vs.
left hand, vision, types of stimuli, stimulus intensity, number of stimuli, practice and error, finger
tremors, breathing cycle, disease, sobriety, experience, health, personality, timing available, and body
temperature. Among those factors, gender is known as the common factor for many scientists and
researchers use in their experiment. They want to know which group of people responds faster. There
are many different features between men and women even though men they have no difference in the
brain s structure or cognitive abilities. They are very different in many other aspects such as: the toys
they play with, the clothes wear, or the colors they like. Men focus on the problem more than women
do, or men want to do it better than women such as push harder, jump higher (Deary, 2006).
Therefore, there may be an expectation about the difference between men and women in response
time. Based on the measurement, Zajdel and Nowak (2007) state that in response to all stimuli there is
statistically significantly shorter reaction time in men than in women. Thus I decide to test the rate of
men s vs. women s reaction time. The recording time will tell me which the faster group of people is.

To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Essay
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird demonstrates organic unity through the use of literary tools to
create, maintain, and amplify the central theme. Lee constructs and develops the theme of social
inequality by employing dialogue, irony, and an extended metaphor. Through dialogue, the
townspeople show contempt for blacks, viewing them and anyone who treats them as equals as
inferior. This is evident in the analysis of the conversations of Bob Ewell, Mrs. Dubose, and Francis
Hancock where they refer to black people as uncivilized savages. Not only does Bob Ewell, contribute
to the theme through his dialogue, but his full name of Robert E. Lee Ewell provokes irony that
clarifies the racist undertones of the novel. Moreover, irony functions ... Show more content on

Not only do the townspeople treat blacks as inferior but they also dislike those who defend blacks. As
a result, when Atticus receives Tom Robinson s case and decides to defend Tom to the best of his
abilities, the community curses Atticus. Offended by the fact that Atticus plans to defend Tom, Miss
Stephanie calls him a nigger lovin bastard (Lee 248). Likewise, Mrs. Dubose says Atticus is no better
than the niggers and trash he works for (Lee 117). Even Atticus family disapproves of his defense of
Tom Robinson; his great nephew Francis tells Scout that Atticus is a nigger lover and he s ruinin the
family (Lee 94). As evident through the mockery of blacks and those who defend them, the white
citizens feel superior to blacks; this idea of white supremacy reaffirms the theme of social inequality.
Through use of irony, Lee parallels the unjust treatment of blacks during the 1930s to that of the
American Civil War. For instance, during the trial of Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell proudly responds to
his full name, Robert E. Lee Ewell. The irony lies within the historical context as Robert E. Lee, a
Confederate general during the American Civil War, fought for the continuation of slavery. By
juxtaposing Bob Ewell with Robert E. Lee, Harper Lee underscores the blatant racism of Bob Ewell.
Furthermore, Mr. Dolphus Raymond s actions exposes the bigotry of the white townspeople through
the irony of his situation.

The Split Horn Analysis
Introduction:
Summary:
The Split Horn, narrated by a young Shaman s daughter, illustrates the journey of a Hmong Shaman; a
healer and spiritual leader, Paja, and his family moving from their motherland, Laos, to Appleton,
Wisconsin. Along with numerous difficulties they face trying to keep and practice their family s
ancient traditions in an unfamiliar environment. His daughter, Chai Thao, gives us an insight into what
the family goes through as several of her siblings completely lose correspondence with their family s
long established customs. However, as Paja s children embrace and grow to learn the American
culture, including: computer games, TV and Christianity, his concerns and worries for his family s
integration also increases. As the leader of the group, Paja must attend to the needs of friends and
family with elaborate rituals that connect the natural and spirit worlds together. With that being said,
Paja Thao, spirals into depression because of both his family and because he is unable to perform his
rituals and heal his people. Ultimately, towards the end of the movie, after several obstacles he had
faced, with the help of one of his relatives who performed a ceremony for Paja and his wife, he is able
to heal himself and continue performing his rituals on others which further helps restore his strength
and reunite his family members. Therefore, the filmmaker s thesis is that families who relocate from

the rainforest, giving the ability for a wider range of biodiversity for both plants and animals. This
makes the dispersal of seeds by African forest elephants a crucial part of Ghana s fig population, also

African forest elephants can also provide ivory for economic profit if maintained in a well structured
system to boost the numbers in its population. Moreover, both species provide their hides and skins for
marketable products for Ghana s consumers. But, for these species of animal to be useful and have a
positive impact for our human population as well, management preparation and action is needed to be
taken to prevent any negative forthcomings.
Policies need to be put into place to effectively change the management of these tropical forest
inhabitants. One option of policy that I strongly recommend would be to change the logging and
deforestation rates along with a different structural aspect to the process. An idea by the Biodiversity
of West African Forests explains that, Many large animals have large home ranges as a result of
fragmentation of forest, the resulting forest patches may be too small to sustain a viable animal
population. Thus for effective protection of plant species and their related animals sizeable forest
tracts are needed. An alternative is a combination of smaller patches connected to each other with
corridors, forming ecological networks [6]. These networks would link the forest reserves and other
cataloged forests. This type of networking strategy is needed so that the passageways can be used as
linkages for both animals and plants to travel throughout more land area so that they can maintain

Narrative Descriptive Personal Narrative
It was around 3:30 on a cold winter afternoon, and my brother and I pull up into the Highschool
parking lot. As he pulled up to the door of the school, I thanked him for the ride and he sped off to
return home. I opened up the doors of the school, and worked my way down the steps, to the wrestling
room to weigh in, and wait to leave. As upon entering, I was greeted by other wrestlers roaming the
hallways. As I entered, I threw my things down next to someone and sat down. With the butterflies in
my stomach starting to emerge, I was still content. The group of us sat in the large room joking
around, and talking. Then it was all stunned to a halt when my coach yelled at us to listen up. He
instructed us to gather our things and get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is unit i realized that he would have to wrestle varsity to fill the weight class. Now I was a little
weary about the future. When Lucas came up to me and asked if I was wrestling anyone, I told him no
more to convince myself and stop my never ending worrying. After sitting in the locker room for
twenty minutes we went out into the big gym. On the bleachers, the group of us pulled out a big snack
and began eating away our hunger. Meanwhile my coach went over to meet with the Union grove
team to figure out matches. With only one person in my weight class, and he s wrestling varsity I had
little probability to wrestle. After we were done eating, the JV started to warm up. With a few stretches
and rough moves. We gathered to see if who was going to wrestle. With little chance of wrestling I
was astounded when My coach said I was wrestling. At that moment nervousness filled my body. My
coach explained to me that I was wrestling someone two weight classes above mine. Starting with the
lower weights, matches began. I was the eighth match out of nine matches. I sat down to try and
gather myself and think of how the match would go. Before I knew it, four matches had occurred
before me. At that point my coach told me to start walking around and warming up once again. I had
one of my teammates come over and stretch me out. Also like before the time had flown by, and my
match was up. I strapped on my head gear, and went over to the scores table. I

Adrienne Rich s Of Woman Born – The End of Motherhood Essay
Of Woman Born The End of Motherhood
In Of Woman Born, Adrienne Rich effectively weaves her own story into a convincing account of
what it means to become a mother within the bonds of patriarchal culture. Her conclusion that the
institution of motherhood, which she distinguishes from motherhood, must be destroyed in order to
release the creation and sustenance of life into the same realm of decision, struggle, surprise,
imagination, and conscious intelligence, as any other difficult, but freely chosen work is substantiated
by her courageous confession that contradicts culturally normative notions of motherhood.
Allowing readers to glimpse her own story as she painfully evaluates her role as mother side by side

because [she] felt [her] own needs acutely and often expressed them violently (32) by raging at her
children out of frustration, provides a credible offering to break down an institution that makes women
like her angry. It also demonstrates some of the ways in which motherhood has not been women s
choice.
A reader might be stunned to consider that was written just twenty years ago and that Rich s first
pregnancy happened only forty three years ago, since her choices as an educated woman were so
limited compared to now. When her account of feeling like she was only acting as a woman (having
no idea what she wanted, and having a child because it was expected of a real woman ) is introduced,
her lack of choices reads like either a dismal Margaret Atwood science fiction novel or a scene from
the very long ago past. Similary, when Rich cites her example of a primitive attitude by quoting a
doctor s medical opinion that women are psychologically unbalanced when they attempt to resist the
demands of the institution [of motherhood], (263) it is quite surprising to realize that this opinion was
written in 1967, a mere thirty years ago. In this way, Rich s story is a tribute to all women who have
fought her battle, the battle to have the freedom to choose motherhood.
Rich must feel a deep sense of satisfaction in realizing that articulating her struggles has helped many
women. Her capacity to transcend her own circumstances is truly remarkable

Loewen The Land Of Opportunity Summary
Loewen first main point is some high school history textbooks portray labor history and unions as
things of the past. The next point he makes is that some high school history textbooks neglect
examination of social class and depicts as a middle class nation full of opportunities for class mobility
despite the drop of middle class people and the widening gap between classes. Another main point
Loewen focuses on is that social class effects sectors of a person s life like their health, environment,
education, and financial opportunities. To appeal to his points, he primarily uses ethos and pathos
when he is trying to appeal to his audience. For instance, Loewen uses ethos to express his knowledge
about the subject by sharing his research results about textbooks and providing other peoples studies
to fortify his points about social class s effect on people. Loewen utilizes pathos by appealing to his
readers emotions by choosing language that expresses his displeasure of students having a limited
understanding of the classes by using words like half formed and naïve. Also, he uses pathos to appeal
to his readers emotions as he uses examples for the ways the class system effects people like when he
uses the two mothers to demonstrate the privilege one mother has over the other, which ... Show more

Loewen states They have no understanding of the ways that opportunity is not equal in America and
no notion that social structure pushes people around, influencing the ideas they hold and lives they
fashion (213). He supports his claim by illustrating the lack and misrepresentation of the social classes
in history textbooks and expounding how social class affects people from the womb to the tomb

The Importance Of Intelligence And Organizational Leadership
Introduction
Cybercriminals have been increasingly engaging in online attacks exploiting organization s
vulnerabilities and deficiencies (Bhattacharya, 2011). Among the organizational factors that are
necessary to combat cybercrime and other problems related to information security, leadership is one
of the most important (Bhattacharya, 2011; Kwon, et al., 2013). Indeed, not only does effective
leadership enable the organization to appropriately defend itself against, and respond to, cybercrime
through the appropriate use of information security strategies, an excellent leader also ensures
regulatory compliance and the development of an effective monitoring plan to reduce information
security risks (Kwon, et al., 2013). At the other end of the spectrum, ineffective leadership leads to
passive or reactive measures against cybercrime that, in turn, can place the organization at risk of
information security related damage and losses (Gupta and Hammond, 2005).
This mini proposal presents a body of research that will make a contribution to emotional intelligence
and organizational leadership in the information security age. It presents the steps taken to select the
participants, how the data will be analyzed into themes. The mini proposal will also present methods,
techniques and the tasks are used to capture the data. It also discusses a series of studies that provide
an empirical evaluation of particular cybercrime events, and uses the experimental results to begin

Contract Law Case Study
In order for a law ( bill ) to receive royal accent (approved by the governor general), the bill must pass
through the House of Representatives and the Senate. This article will talk about how a law is passed
through both houses and become law under difference circumstances, when the government of the day
have a majority in both houses, in the House of Representatives and in a minority government. If the
bill is introduced in the House of Representatives, the bill must be read 3 times and then be sent to the
Senate for debate If a majority of Senators approves the bill, the bill is passed and will receive royal
accent. If the Senate rejects the bill, the bill will be sent back to the House of Representatives and the
legislative process will start again. If the Senate made amendments to a bill and aggress to it, it must
be sent back to the House Representatives for approval. Using the example of the passage of the
Workchoices legislation, In 2004, the Howard Government won a majority in both houses. The
majority means that the government is able to pass law without the usual the usual situation in which
they need to deal with the crossbench members of the Senate to pass a bill. For example, the

Usually, the government have to compromise with the cross bench in the Senate to pass a bill because
of the proportionality nature of the Senate except in 2004 2007 when the government have a majority

have to negotiate with Senators. In the 2010 election, Labor won a minority government and the
Greens held the balance of power in the Senate. Labor won the support of the Greens in the senate and
independents in the house. The system of the Senate makes bills more difficult to pass, but it also act

The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development
One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone of
proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of
development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner,
either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself.
Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she
can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the
course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN SOCIETY IN
LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in which a child
benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s cognitive abilities
increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing, but not too difficult for
the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are able to perform some of,
but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more capable, they are able to
complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding and learn new tasks while
avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence.
Vygotsky argued that [i]n order for cognitive development to occur, then, new information must be
presented by parents, teachers, or more skilled

Racism And Income Inequality In The United States
Racism and inequalities have existed, exists now, and will be here long after we are gone. However,
racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully eradicated, it is to
the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of life, such as income
levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to systemic racism. It is a person
s own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that determine their level of
achievement. Of the many cultures in this country, some are more goal driven and can better thrive in
a capitalist society. Then there are some cultures that don t do so well. So, even though racism does
exist in the united states, it is not to the point where it grants benefits to white people. There are many
factors to income inequality in this country, not all of which are connected to racism, but one s
personal choices. The most prevalent factor that contributes to income ... Show more content on

As it relates to the education system, cultural differences are a main factor for the disparities among
the races. Despite this, the Affirmative Action quota system was implemented in order to promote
diversity in places of higher education. Policy makers in this country have gone out of their way to
ensure that their illusion of an equal playing field exists. However, in the court case Gratz v. Bollinger,
the Supreme Court ruled that the University of Michigan s application was riddled with racial
discrimination against non minorities. Pew Researchers even found that of those personally affected
by Affirmative Action, including minorities and non minorities, 4% benefited while 11% were hurt by
its effects. The only beneficiaries were those of the black community while Affirmative Action
policies were most detrimental to white

  • 2. Ellen Degeneres Satire Essay As Anne Frank once wisely stated, How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world (citation???). She probably was not thinking of satire in entertainment when she wrote this, but I think it fits perfectly. Satire is a technique that aims to reform society, often times through humor (I used parts of definitions from pdf... how do I cite it). There are popular television shows that employ this technique in order to better the world. In Ellen Degeneres daytime talk show she satirizes politicians through a skit that pokes fun at people who are against issues such as: gay marriage and reaching across the aisle. The Ellen Show is famous for its humorous interviews, monologues, and skits. In one particular segment, Degeneres pretended to be candidate in a 2016 Republican Presidential Debate. This statement alone proves the use of farce because it is both improbable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this skit, she imitates a serious situation, the presidential debate, in order to comedically ridicule it. For example, one of the moderators asks the candidates what they would do in order to win enough independent and democratic support to become the next president, to which Degeneres responds that she would support both sides of the aisle. The other candidates look angry or confused; then, she claims that the best support is Ellen Underwear and they all nod their heads in agreement. This satirizes people who are followers and just go along with what other people tell them. It also satirizes politicians against reaching across the aisle because it appears that they do not have a good reason to be unsupportive of this. Degeneres is making a statement that a politician has the potential to be more successful if they are willing to work with everyone. All of what Degeneres says is lighthearted, however the audience understands that she is working to reform ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jay Gatsby Great I think Nicks reasons for thinking of Jay Gatsby as the great Gatsby , is because Jay Gatsby has done or said he has done a lot in his life to get to where he is today. He makes himself sound very good when he tells nick everything in the car. Nick was sort of shocked by how successful he is or was. Jay is not keeping his past from society; he s more open with it. People decide to make up these rumors because Gatsby was never really noticed by anyone to be able to tell the truth about everything he s done in his past. I think another thing that makes Nick think of Gatsby the way he does is Gatsby s past. Gatsby came from literally nothing; He was dirt poor and wanted nothing to do with his parents. One day Gatsby happened to come across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gatsby doesn t exactly belong in the wealthy group and his outsider status is very important. Gatsby plays a person who does belong in the wealthy group. So, Nick s is surprised at Gatsby s ability make his dreams come to life making it seem so easy. Gatsby kind of just plays a part. Nick thinks Gatsby is great because he was able to create a new identity for himself when he needed to be someone else. Gatsby s strive to accomplish things amazes Nick. Gatsby focused on a goal of winning Daisy, and he did whatever was necessary to accomplish it. Gatsby never quits from his goal and dream of winning Daisy, and even in reality, his strive is admirable , and somewhat misunderstood. All Gatsby wanted was to be with Daisy, and for her he moved up so he could be equal to her in the same status. So that she would notice him and would return the feelings back to Gatsby. I think Nick saw Gatsby as great because of the things he achieved and the way he achieved it. Although Gatsby was not from old money he made it seem like he was from old money. Something Nick thought was especially interesting. But what I think really got Nick is when he found out Gatsby wasn t really Gatsby and that he dealt with illegal things all in the name of love to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Voter Capabilities INTRODUCTION Citizens, politicians, and officials have been in heated debates on whether Americans are capable of handling their responsibilities that are given just for being a citizen. Voting is a personal choice for Americans. The fears of losing rights and freedom have been present for many decades and centuries. Everybody is concerned that citizens may not be as free as they once were. People fought hard to make every American citizen free. Citizens who complain that our government is not perfect and is not doing well for the United States are people who usually do not even vote. One vote can make a difference. Citizens are extremely concerned with our rights and freedom, but do not even attempt to make a change. Citizens are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizens are not always informed when they go to the voting booth and mark their candidate. If the democratic system depended solely on the qualifications of the individual voter, then it seems remarkable that democracies have survived through the centuries (Barleson, Lazarfeld, McPhee; p 209). Every voter may be qualified, but the voter can still lack information. Barleson, Lazerfeld, and McPhee recognize that individuals do not meet the standards that Political politicians necessarily agree with. Evidence based Argument Voters do not have enough information to make educated votes that are best for this country. Americans will sit around and complain about the Democracy, but attempt to do nothing about it. Numbers speak for themselves; if every citizen that complained about the Democracy voted, there would be a change in the world. Every vote counts in America and everybody has a voice. One cannot stress how important it is to gain information about current politics. Information is found everywhere. Information can be found online, on television, in articles, and in books. Reading a little bit can go a long way. Americans need to take the time to find information and their rights would be safer. Americans are entitled to rights and freedom, so they give up the responsibilities. Americans are dependent of others; they want others to make the right decision. Every citizen is responsible for them and will not always agree on the same decisions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Geert Hofstede had his research on the comparison of Australia with the Philippines with Australia on 51 and Philippines on 44. This comparison is very close with a 6% difference and demonstrated the similarity of results between the two countries on the survey. • 7. Disadvantages Of Food Additives Food additives are chemicals that are added to foods to keep them fresh or to enhance their color, flavor, or texture. They might include food colorings, flavor enhancers, or a range of preservatives. Most of the time, food additives are listed on the product label (along with other ingredients), spelt out in full or with a code. Some common food additives may include; artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, monosodium glutamate (MSG), trans fat, common food dyes, and many more. It all depends on what type of additive and your body weight/height to determine the limit of these additives you should have on a daily basis. Artificial sweeteners are a sugar substitute that provides a sweet taste like sugar, but contains less food energy, and are usually genetically modified. Effects of artificial sweeteners can include messing with your hormones, making you overheat, increase the risk of diabetes, and they pollute your water. They can also cause weight gain, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn starch, it has been processed by glucose isomerase to convert some of its glucose into fructose. Being that high fructose corn syrup is not natural, it is not healthy at all. It also has many dangerous effects if you consume to much. Some of these effects include; weight gain, cancer, fatty liver and liver stress, increased cholesterol, heart disease, etc. It is best to stay away from products that contain high ... • 9. Moscrop Hallway Assignment I sat near the window as a pop of orange then a strand of yellow started to appear. They gradually wove together in intricate patterns leaving a trail of light behind for the sun. The concoction of colours slowly revealed the barren world filled with nothing but white snow, sprinkled on its landscape. The sun followed pursuit of the blend of colours as it began its journey to the skies. Its rays penetrated through the windows bringing warmth that seeps into me along with the cold, frigid air of the Canadian winter. I would stay still to admire the view until the trance was broken by the familiar pressure of the student s feet on my back. A hallway is like the colours and the students are the sun. I am the path way that the students follow to get to wherever they need to go, without me they would be lost. If you pass by the hallways of Moscrop Secondary, you would notice the dull walls with paper flyers stuck to it and the grey and red lockers permanently attached to it. You would look up and see an abundance of paintings of flags and pictures exuding positive messages and you would think it was nice, just nice. Then you would continue on your way not even noticing the floor you stand on that made it possible for you to view the dull walls and the paintings on the ceiling, not even a glance. Leading the Lancastrian army was Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, who played a crucial role in the fate of each king. Warwick had been such an influential figure in 15th century English politics that, on his death, no one matched him in terms of power and popularity. Deprived of Warwick s support, the Lancastrians suffered their final defeat at the Battle of Tewkesbury on 4 May 1471, which marked the downfall of the House of Lancaster and the ascendancy of the House of York. • 15. Environmental Degradation Of The Environment Many individuals will argue that population growth or technological development are the primary causes of environmental degradation. There is also a third cause of environmental degradation that people hypothesize, which is our values. These people believe that major values influence population growth and technological development. The argument is that values are more important, and influence population growth and technological development. Key values come from national, racial and religious cultures and are transmitted via other people, institutions, popular culture and mass media. Lynn White argues that humans have damaged our world and we need to craft solutions. White puts the blame for environmental degradation on our religious views. White s argument explains most environmental impacts well but does not explain the scale of these impacts, more specifically the mass amount or rate at which actions are taken that degrade the environment. White argues that Judeo Christian values are the reason for the exploitation of the environment and furthermore the major cause for environmental degradation. The religious beliefs influenced science and morals because Christianity is the most anthropocentric religion the world has seen (White 1205). The destruction of Pagan beliefs made it possible for people to exploit nature and feel detached. The Great Terror Robert Conquest Summary With Robert Conquest s first edition of The Great Terror published in 1968, critics acclaimed that his work was a spotlight on the atrocities wrought by the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Since then, with new sources and statistics coming forward, there have been two reassessments published by Conquest. Regardless of edition, the author attempts to provide the reader a gripping account of Stalin s mass purges where millions were murdered and millions more were sent to Soviet prisons in brutal, inhumane conditions. Furthermore, to give the reader a well rounded view of this period Conquest writes about more than just the gulags. He shares his research on the Moscow Trials, the vicious methods for obtaining false confessions, life in the labor camps, and much more. The family is what engulfs and reflects these aspects of a society. It is affected by the political beliefs of a country, and it also reflects the social and economic standpoints in a society, most specifically women s status. As we recently learned from Dr. Carmocolias, kinship, or the family, is one of the two oldest and most important institutions in the world (religion is the other), and I find it quite interesting, because I found the most significant correlation between the two. Two main aspects that I found most influential on the family were religion, and foreign influence, and I will now summarize my findings in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Greece. Turkey is a prime example of the division between urban and rural family life. This is a country that was greatly impacted by its rich history. The influx of Europeans, due to the commercial treaty of 1839, marked a period of rapid urbanization that changed family structures and brought opportunity for women in the workforce (Duben, 7). One point I concluded here was that the change in household structure mirrored the change in family structure. The European value of independence was adopted by urban upper class families, and this later showed in the architecture of the homes (Duben, 201). Scientists believe that life must have began as early as 3.8 billion years ago, but they still can t decide on how it started. There are many theories that explain different ways it may have began. The Primordial Soup Hypothesis was presented by The Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane. They came up with this idea in 1920. In this theory, they thought that the combination of some chemicals and a source of energy made amino acids, which later evolved into the first life on Earth. They believed that life started in an ocean or pond. In 1950, Stanley Miller and Harold Urey did an experiment to test this hypothesis by mixing gases from Earth and sparking the mixture to represent lightning. The conclusion came to be amino acids. The Effects Of Lead On Human Population The effects of lead in the human population have been an issue since the early civilizations because lead was found in almost every item used for eating and cooking. In the 1950 s, houses were built and the first choice for plumbing pipes was made of lead. The paint used to cover the interiors was lead based. Children s toys were also coated with lead based paint. Nowadays, lead can still be found in some glassware; however, the government has banned the use of lead in the rest. Lead can be introduced into the body through inhalation or skin contact. However, ingestion of lead is the most common way of it being transported into the body. It was essentially a spiritual movement, fiercely conflicting with the rigid rules and standards of classicism and the restraint of the Enlightenment. Even while being raised in an environment with such high moral expectations, Crane soon displayed signs of independence. He dropped out of Methodist boarding school to attend a military academy, where he developed an interest for poker and baseball, according to colleague Harvey Wickham (Szumski 14). Following a life path deviating more and more from his family s traditionalist beliefs of faith and purity, it is clear that through these factors Crane would hone his literary skills to combat traditional norms. Crane s decision to write a story in a context (the Civil War) with which he had no experience showed that this stemmed from his desire to dissect the philosophy of individualism in a setting where no societal influences exist. The fact that he also does not mention the meaning of the war and its battles demonstrates his desire to make an Everyman of Henry: he is any young man of any era facing a trial by fire in any battle (Johnson 25). Through use of irony, Lee parallels the unjust treatment of blacks during the 1930s to that of the American Civil War. For instance, during the trial of Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell proudly responds to his full name, Robert E. Lee Ewell. The irony lies within the historical context as Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general during the American Civil War, fought for the continuation of slavery. By juxtaposing Bob Ewell with Robert E. Lee, Harper Lee underscores the blatant racism of Bob Ewell. Furthermore, Mr. Dolphus Raymond s actions exposes the bigotry of the white townspeople through the irony of his situation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Split Horn Analysis Introduction: Summary: The Split Horn, narrated by a young Shaman s daughter, illustrates the journey of a Hmong Shaman; a healer and spiritual leader, Paja, and his family moving from their motherland, Laos, to Appleton, Wisconsin. Along with numerous difficulties they face trying to keep and practice their family s ancient traditions in an unfamiliar environment. His daughter, Chai Thao, gives us an insight into what the family goes through as several of her siblings completely lose correspondence with their family s long established customs. However, as Paja s children embrace and grow to learn the American culture, including: computer games, TV and Christianity, his concerns and worries for his family s integration also increases. As the leader of the group, Paja must attend to the needs of friends and family with elaborate rituals that connect the natural and spirit worlds together. With that being said, Paja Thao, spirals into depression because of both his family and because he is unable to perform his rituals and heal his people. Ultimately, towards the end of the movie, after several obstacles he had faced, with the help of one of his relatives who performed a ceremony for Paja and his wife, he is able to heal himself and continue performing his rituals on others which further helps restore his strength and reunite his family members. Therefore, the filmmaker s thesis is that families who relocate from their homeland to the Western culture experience various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forest dates in particular are thought of as elephant dependent, since the seed develops superiorly after going through an elephant s system and moreover, the decline of elephant populations in West African rain forests in Upper Guinea is correlated with forest date population declines [4]. Figs are known to be a large food source for many animal species throughout the rainforest, giving the ability for a wider range of biodiversity for both plants and animals. This makes the dispersal of seeds by African forest elephants a crucial part of Ghana s fig population, also creating an impact on other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... African forest elephants can also provide ivory for economic profit if maintained in a well structured system to boost the numbers in its population. Moreover, both species provide their hides and skins for marketable products for Ghana s consumers. But, for these species of animal to be useful and have a positive impact for our human population as well, management preparation and action is needed to be taken to prevent any negative forthcomings. Policies need to be put into place to effectively change the management of these tropical forest inhabitants. One option of policy that I strongly recommend would be to change the logging and deforestation rates along with a different structural aspect to the process. An idea by the Biodiversity of West African Forests explains that, Many large animals have large home ranges as a result of fragmentation of forest, the resulting forest patches may be too small to sustain a viable animal population. Thus for effective protection of plant species and their related animals sizeable forest tracts are needed. An alternative is a combination of smaller patches connected to each other with corridors, forming ecological networks [6]. These networks would link the forest reserves and other cataloged forests. This type of networking strategy is needed so that the passageways can be used as linkages for both animals and plants to travel throughout more land area so that they can maintain ... As he pulled up to the door of the school, I thanked him for the ride and he sped off to return home. I opened up the doors of the school, and worked my way down the steps, to the wrestling room to weigh in, and wait to leave. As upon entering, I was greeted by other wrestlers roaming the hallways. As I entered, I threw my things down next to someone and sat down. With the butterflies in my stomach starting to emerge, I was still content. After we were done eating, the JV started to warm up. With a few stretches and rough moves. We gathered to see if who was going to wrestle. My coach explained to me that I was wrestling someone two weight classes above mine. Starting with the lower weights, matches began. I was the eighth match out of nine matches. I sat down to try and gather myself and think of how the match would go. Before I knew it, four matches had occurred before me. Adrienne Rich s Of Woman Born – The End of Motherhood Essay Of Woman Born The End of Motherhood In Of Woman Born, Adrienne Rich effectively weaves her own story into a convincing account of what it means to become a mother within the bonds of patriarchal culture. Her conclusion that the institution of motherhood, which she distinguishes from motherhood, must be destroyed in order to release the creation and sustenance of life into the same realm of decision, struggle, surprise, imagination, and conscious intelligence, as any other difficult, but freely chosen work is substantiated by her courageous confession that contradicts culturally normative notions of motherhood. It also demonstrates some of the ways in which motherhood has not been women s choice. A reader might be stunned to consider that was written just twenty years ago and that Rich s first pregnancy happened only forty three years ago, since her choices as an educated woman were so limited compared to now. When her account of feeling like she was only acting as a woman (having no idea what she wanted, and having a child because it was expected of a real woman ) is introduced, her lack of choices reads like either a dismal Margaret Atwood science fiction novel or a scene from the very long ago past. Similary, when Rich cites her example of a primitive attitude by quoting a doctor s medical opinion that women are psychologically unbalanced when they attempt to resist the demands of the institution [of motherhood], (263) it is quite surprising to realize that this opinion was written in 1967, a mere thirty years ago. In this way, Rich s story is a tribute to all women who have fought her battle, the battle to have the freedom to choose motherhood. Rich must feel a deep sense of satisfaction in realizing that articulating her struggles has helped many women. Her capacity to transcend her own circumstances is truly remarkable ... • 45. Loewen The Land Of Opportunity Summary Loewen first main point is some high school history textbooks portray labor history and unions as things of the past. The next point he makes is that some high school history textbooks neglect examination of social class and depicts as a middle class nation full of opportunities for class mobility despite the drop of middle class people and the widening gap between classes. Another main point Loewen focuses on is that social class effects sectors of a person s life like their health, environment, education, and financial opportunities. To appeal to his points, he primarily uses ethos and pathos when he is trying to appeal to his audience. For instance, Loewen uses ethos to express his knowledge about the subject by sharing his research results about textbooks and providing other peoples studies to fortify his points about social class s effect on people. Loewen utilizes pathos by appealing to his readers emotions by choosing language that expresses his displeasure of students having a limited understanding of the classes by using words like half formed and naïve. • 46. The Importance Of Intelligence And Organizational Leadership Introduction Cybercriminals have been increasingly engaging in online attacks exploiting organization s vulnerabilities and deficiencies (Bhattacharya, 2011). Among the organizational factors that are necessary to combat cybercrime and other problems related to information security, leadership is one of the most important (Bhattacharya, 2011; Kwon, et al., 2013). Indeed, not only does effective leadership enable the organization to appropriately defend itself against, and respond to, cybercrime through the appropriate use of information security strategies, an excellent leader also ensures regulatory compliance and the development of an effective monitoring plan to reduce information security risks (Kwon, et al., 2013). At the other end of the spectrum, ineffective leadership leads to passive or reactive measures against cybercrime that, in turn, can place the organization at risk of information security related damage and losses (Gupta and Hammond, 2005). This mini proposal presents a body of research that will make a contribution to emotional intelligence and organizational leadership in the information security age. It presents the steps taken to select the participants, how the data will be analyzed into themes. The mini proposal will also present methods, techniques and the tasks are used to capture the data. • 49. The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone of proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN SOCIETY IN LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in which a child benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s cognitive abilities increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing, but not too difficult for the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are able to perform some of, but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more capable, they are able to complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding and learn new tasks while avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence. However, racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully eradicated, it is to the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of life, such as income levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to systemic racism. It is a person s own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that determine their level of achievement.
