Essay about ESTATE GIFT TAX P5
Problem 5
(1) Grantor creates a trust with income to Spouse for life, remainder to Child if living and, if not,
reversion to Grantor or Grantor s estate.
(a) If Grantor predeceases Spouse and Child, is Section 2037 applicable to the transfer?
No. Section 2037 is not applicable to the transfer.
Based on Section 2037, The value of the gross estate shall include the value of all property to the
extent of any interest therein of which the decedent has at any time after September7, 1916, made a
transfer, by trust or otherwise, if (1) possession or enjoyment of the property can, through ownership
of such interest, be obtained only by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Section 2037 does not apply because that grantor does not have a reversionary interest.
And also A can possess or enjoy the property without surviving the decedent.
What are included?
Since section 2037 does not apply in this case, and the decedent made the gift within three years of
death. Section 2035(a) invoked to cause inclusion in the gross estate.
Based on section 2035(a), If (1) the decedent made a transfer (by trust or otherwise) of an interest in
any property, or relinquished a power with respect to any property, during the 3 year period ending on
the date of the decedent s death, and (2) the value of such property would have been included in the
decedent s gross estate under section 2036, 2037,2038, or 2042 if such transferred interest or
relinquished power had been retained by the decedent on the date of his death. The value of the gross
estate shall include the value of any property (or interest therein) which would have been so included.
As a result, the value included in the decedent s estate is still the full property less the value of the
spouse s outstanding life estate.
(c) Grantor creates a trust with income to S for life, remainder to A if living and, if A is not living,
reversion to Grantor if Grantor is living; if Grantor is not living, remainder to

The Christian Church In The Middle Ages
Some Catholic writers justified their rights to papal supremacy by way of forging political alliances
with influential political entities. While instituting for itself, prominence amongst the churches, the
establishing of the Bishops status within the community as well as his position in political affairs were
realized. As the conflicts amongst the Christian communities of the eastern and western sphere
continued, the isolation and dislocation of these communities fueled the weakening of unity amongst
European civilization. From here, the Roman Catholic Church established its intricate hierarchy with
the pope as the head of the churches in the west, placing the possession of supreme power into his
hands.
The Middle Ages were full of innovations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these that of the priests is the more weighty, since they have to render an account for even the kings
of men in the divine judgment. You are also aware, dear son, that while you are permitted honorably to
rule over human kind, yet in things divine you bow your head humbly before the leaders of the clergy
and await from their hands the means of your salvation. In the reception and proper disposition of the
heavenly mysteries you recognize that you should be subordinate rather than superior to the religious
order, and that in these matters you depend on their judgment rather than wish to force them to follow
your will. (Placher, 1988, Pg. 123). This seemed to be an attempt to outline the limits of royal power
and the ecclesiastical authority concerning the prominent position of the emperors in affairs of the
state and Church. The emperor was to be an example of God on earth. Furthermore, it was critical that
he lead the people to God in caring for the secular needs as well as for their spiritual

The Transformation of Hal in Shakespeare s Henry IV Essay
The Transformation of Hal in Henry IV
In Shakespeare s Henry IV, the character Hal, the Prince of Wales,
undergoes a transformation that can be characterized as a redemption.
Shakespeare introduces Hal, in the opening act as a renegade of the Court. His
avoidance of all public responsibility and his affinity for the company of the
Boar s Head Tavern, have caused serious concern for the King, because Hal is
heir to the throne. The King realizes that to keep order, a ruler and his heir
must prove to be both responsible and honorable; from the outset Hal possesses
neither quality. The King even testifies to his own advisor, that he would have
rather traded Hal for Hotspur, the son of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a plea to his father, Hal
vows that he will redeem his tarnished identity at the expense of Hotspur,
saying I will redeem all of this on Percy s head, (3.2.137). However, the
act of redemption does not only occur as the result of realization and
motivation. Redemption needs for these ideas to be put into action. At the end
of Act 5.4, using his realization and motivation as a basis for his actions, Hal
consummates his transformation, by physically saving his father from Douglas
and defeating Hotspur in a single combat at the Battle of Shrewsbury. Thus, the
Prince of Wales has performed, what he had originally promised to do in his
opening soliloquy, to redeem his reputation. The phases of, realization,
motivation and action, mark important facets in Hal s transformation. However,
Hal s redemption occurs only as the product of all three phases, and as a result,
it causes a significant change in the character of the Prince.
The first phase of Hal s transformation is marked by realization. Hal
realizes that his life of truancy must end. This realization in turn, provides
him with a basis for redemption, which is marked by Hal s soliloquy at the end
of Act 1.2. However, Hal s soliloquy is not the result of a striking
realization. Rather, it is apparent that Hal has given much thought to his

American Civil War
Experiences of the American Civil War (1861 1865): Honor, Duty and Death Introduction The
following pages are an essay on the cause of the American Civil War (1861 1865) and the effects that
the war had upon the soldiers, women and African Americans of the North and the South. In this essay
I will write about the following topics and present a view of how the war was witnessed by these
different groups of people. In regards to the soldiers of the North and the South, I will answer the
following questions: What was the enthusiasm of the soldiers from the North and the South before the
war? What was their perspective after the fighting had started? How did the soldiers of the invading
armies treat the civil population? The horrors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldier s perspectives on the length of the war were influenced by the motivation to protect their
way of life. In describing the sentiments of Union and Confederate soldiers we can use some examples
that are in letters sent home by the soldiers. One Kentucky confederate wrote, I choose to fight for
southern rights and southern liberty against the vandals of the North who were determined to destroy
slavery [vi]. Another opinion by a Wisconsin Union soldier states his reasons for fighting in the war, I
have no heart in this war if the slaves cannot go free [vii]Both the North and the South believed to be
fighting to preserve the society that was prevalent in the respective regions of the United States. The
South was trying to protect the institution of slavery and their society. The North, at the start of the
war, only had the intention to overcome the succession, but they later realized that it could only do this
by destroying slavery[viii]. When it became apparent to the soldiers on the battlefield that the war
would not end quickly, the tone of enthusiasm changed. An example of the change in attitude can be
obtained from the following passage that was written by the Union soldier Jno R. McClure to his sister
in 1862 I will tell you what I think and that is the north will never whip the south as long as there is a
man left in the south. They fight like wild devles. Ever man seems to determine to loose the last

Plato’s Theory of Forms Essay
Plato s Theory of Forms
Plato was born, the son of Ariston and Perictione, in about 428 BC. His family, on both sides, was
among the most distinguished in Athens. He was born in Athens into a very wealthy family and as a
young man was a student of Socrates.
Plato is probably one of the best known philosophers.
Plato embarked on a period of extensive travel, returning to Athens some years later. In 387 BCE he
established the Academy, a school devoted to philosophical debate and learning. Aristotle was a
student at the Academy for about the last twenty years of Plato s life.
At the heart of all Plato s philosophy is his Theory of Forms, sometimes called the Theory of Ideas.

They know of nothing else and assume that there can never be anything beyond the shadows.
The world of sense is at a constant change, so how can the truth be known if the world never stays the
same from one moment to the next. Plato believed there was a certain truth, but this material world
cannot answer it. The material world only presents appearances, which lead us to make opinions, not
knowledge. Plato believes there is truth on a different plane, on the non material world of forms. He
alleged that in order for something to be real, it had to be permanent and unchanging.
In order to see exactly what a form is and how it differs from a material object, we need to look at the
first two of the properties that characterize the forms. The forms are transcendent. This means that
they do not exist in space and time. A material object, a basketball, exists at a particular place at a
particular time. A form, roundness, does not exist at any place or time. The forms exist, or subsist, in a
different way. This is especially important because it explains why the forms are unchanging. A form
such as roundness will never change; it does not even exist in time. It is the same at all times or places
in which it might be instantiated. A form does not exist in space in that it can be instantiated

The Earth And It s People Chapter Summary
The Earth and it s People Notes Ch.1 Old Civilizations notes One of the oldest books the Epic of
Gilgamesh gives us a view on how the old civilization Mesopotamia and its people were it roots back
to the year 2000 B.C.E. The book starts off by the King Gilgamesh sending a temple prostitute to tame
a wild man named Enkidu who acted like an animal in the grasslands. The temple prostitute then
sexualy charms him to win Enkidu s trust. then convinces him to go back with her to the city. She then
clothes him and teaches him how to eat cooked food and brewed beer and how to bathe. By her words
it shows how the mesopotamians lived. A claim says that Mesopotamia was the first place to hold

Early farmers in Europe and elsewhere practiced shifting cultivation, also known as swidden
agriculture.Although the lands around the Mediterranean seem to have shared a complex of crops and
farming techniques, geographical barriers blocked the spread elsewhere. Rainfall patterns south of the
Sahara favored locally domesticated grains sorghums, millets, and (in Ethiopia) teff over wheat and
barley. In the Americas a decline of game animals in the Tehuacán° Valley of Mexico after 8000
B.C.E. increased people s dependence on wild plants. Agriculture based on maize (corn) developed
there about 3000 B.C.E. and gradually spread. The first domesticated animal, the dog, may have
helped hunters track game well before the Neolithic period. Later, animals initially provided meat but
eventually supplied milk, wool, and energy as well.Meat eating did not decline during the revolution.
An agricultural society is where humans settle in one spot and focus on particular economic, political,
and religious goals and activities and most people are farmers production of food is the number 1

Alice In The Film All The Way From Memphis
Nevertheless, Alice s character is undoubtedly about finding her own voice and independence in a
man s world and how she evolves in the film. The initial characterization of Alice before her
transformation, is of a woman who s insecure and an unconfident housewife to the bread winner of the
house and the personal hurdles she overcomes during the process. In the starting scene of the film, we
are introduced to Alice Hyatt, who is a 35 year old as the titles suggests us, living in Socorro, New
Mexico. In the background, we hear the song All the Way from Memphis by the band Mott the
Hoople. Next, the camera zooms in on an individual house and the inside of a room is shown, where

The male voice is of his father. When he enters the living room, the impact of his presence is not
friendly or playful. He is rather annoyed and full of anger. In the next scene, we see the 3 family
members sitting around the dining table. This is the scene of image 1 in appendix 2, where her
husband criticizes her brutally about his coffee not tasting right. If we look closely, Alice s body
language is up tight connoting the fear and insecurity. Alice is visibly upset about her husband s
behavior and like an obedient housewife, listens to his rant. Likewise, in scene 2 in appendix 2, we see
Alice waiting on the table, and looking at a different direction with upmost fear and confusion in her
eyes. Again, her body is up tight. Scene 2 (1:00:24 1:01:15) is about where a man she is waiting the
table of, is trying to flirt with her whilst she is taking his order. As much as Alice tries to stay
professional, the man observes and enjoys her vulnerability and continues with his flirting remarks.
Alice becomes quite uncomfortable and doesn t know how to react. This scene shows her struggle in

Applications of the Scientific Method: Everyday Life

The scientific method is a process for experimentation used to explore observations and answer
questions. It is used unconsciously by many on a daily basis and understanding how to apply the
method can be valuable in making decisions and solving problems. For this assignment, I have chosen
to use the scientific method to demonstrate how to organize my cluttered apartment to fit two storage
units thus eliminating two bills and lowering my debt.
First I will ask a question or make an observation such as how will I fit two storage units into my
small apartment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would then test my hypothesis again and realize I can accept it. Finally, a conclusion must be
reached to wrap up the scientific method. By following the steps, I find that I would be able to fill my
apartment much better, save or make money, and make numerous donations. I also found that these
moves could be done much faster if I had help, so informing friends and family of my decision would
also work. For an even smoother outcome, I would have to be sure that all the materials I would need
were readily available. I would need paper and pens, a camera, and measuring tape for the initial part
of my experiment. I would have to make a list of places to donate to and make sure they are able to
give me receipts for tax purposes. There are also those in need that could use some of the extra items I
have to make it through the upcoming winter. Making a schedule of my availability helps ensure I
have enough time to focus on this project without running into other schedules. Adding a deadline and
some goals can help motivate one to stay on task so as not to push the project to the side and increase
debt.
The scientific method can easily be used in everyday life and in some instances is required in order to
get thru the day successfully. I would guess that we are taught throughout our lives to perfect such
methods and we became so used to the perfection that we can now apply the method without laying
out the steps but it helps to write them down to

Advantage Of Globalization
Today, globalization concepts are mainly used in three areas: social, economic, and political. Because
of globalization, an increase in the mobility of goods and people, communications, corporations, and
standard of living has occurred but also a loss of culture and environmental issues, too. Some people
view globalization as a way of the future while others see it as the source of current global dissent.
Globalization is both a boon and a curse when it comes to international trade, wealth, labor, and
cultures however it has been impacted and influenced the most by economic interactions. When it
comes to the advantages, globalization has touched all the three areas to some extent. For example,
economically NAFTA, an organization between USA, Canada, and Mexico for free trade, has led to a
creation of jobs in less developed countries. The creation of free trades has caused the prices of goods
to lower and has increased trade and ideas. Also, multinational corporations such as Mcdonald s,
Disney and more have made products to be found across the globe. When viewing the advantages
politically, foreign policy has played a big role in which it builds relationships with other nations and
stronger political and economic locations. Overall, foreign policy has helped keep country s safe,
discourage war, benefit from natural resources from other nations, and maintain ideology. Examples
such as the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015, which told Iran to stop its nuclear program, shows how foreign
policy has been positively affected. Nation s promoting nationalism and democracy has also been a
positive effect politically. In addition, the use of international aids has helped countries like Haiti in
need of relief effort. Finally, social interactions like the spread of language and culture, and global
sports competitions have greatly impacted society in numerous ways. The spread of the English
language due to the British colonization has now made English a dominant language, which makes
communications easier than ever before. In addition, the spread of culture has influenced others across
the world and has the people more open minded overall. On the other hand, global sports competitions
such as the Olympics and World Cup

Introduction
Leonhard Euler was a Swiss Mathematician and physicist during the 1700s. He was born in 1707 in
Basel, Switzerland. He is known to be a pioneer of mathematics contributing to trigonometry, calculus
and geometry. The principle that he came up with and investigated was the foundation of modern day
mathematics. His most famous was The Graph Theory , using mathematic to investigate graphs. The

This question was the basis for Leonard Euler s investigation into graph theory. He observed when
answering the question that some graphs could be drawn in different way, and some with multiple
possibilities and other don t have any. Being able to answer this question is depends on the number of
vertices with the odd edges. In the example below display. When it refers to two odd veracities refers
to the connection between the line and the nodes. The example above is one that you are able to draw
without lifting your pencil off. This graph has two odd veracities what agrees with Euler s observation.
However this example has 6 odd vertices making this graph impossible to solve. Knowing this rule is
important when solving the seven bridges of Konigsberg problem.
Seven bridge of Konigsberg problem
Leonard Euler used graph theory to solve the 18th century problem seven bridges of Konigsberg. The
problem states:

The Trading Dynamics of Institutional Investors
The fraction of corporate equity owned by institutional investors has grown considerably in the past
several decades; institutional holding of shares in U.S. equities has increased from approximately 16%
in 1965 to over 50% in 2010 (Federal Reserve Board, 2011). The fact that institutional investors are
managing such a sizable wealth invested in U.S. equity market has potential important role in term of
setting market prices. The growing impact of institutional investors on capital markets has induced to
increased research on the behavior of this group of investors both by academics and policy makers,
who tend to believe that institutional investor follow momentum based strategies, and often are
alleged to herdinglike behavior and following destabilizing trading strategies.
Recent studies investigating the behavior of institutional investors document three main results. First,
institutional investors are momentum traders (buying past winners and selling past losers) and are
more likely to follow past prices (citet*{grinblatt1995momentum}). Second, Institutional investors
sometimes trade in the same direction over a period of time or engage in herding behavior
(citet{wermers1999mutual}). Finally, the contemporaneous association between changes in quarterly
institutional holding and quarterly stock returns is much stronger than the feedback trading effect
(citet{nofsinger1999herding,wermers1999mutual}).
The previous studies on the behavior of institutional investors

Gay Dance Clubs Essay example
The dance club is no longer an exclusive venue drawing together people with similar musical
interests. Instead, it has become the commercialized superclub, where profit rather than music is the
bottom line. As a space traditionally influenced by homosexuals becomes a major business
opportunity, this commercialization has led to the inclusion of gay subcultures within mainstream
American society. However, this process has served to reinforce social stigma and stereotypes. The
advertising and club environment designed to sell the experience to the gay customer is founded on
the overtly sexual club culture of the 1970s and early 80s. On the dance floor the constructed image of

In many clubs, the underground days of clubbing past have been replaced with the homogenized
superclubs of the present: gigantic, multi floored venues attracting thousands to listen to the music
makers spin. Gone too are the days of exclusivity. As club culture has been mainstreamed,
entrepreneurs have found the new sound not only revolutionary, but also profitable. Promoters and
planners such as gay circuit guru John Blair offer free membership cards and litter the streets with
flyers offering discounts when shown at the door. In the world of the superclub, capitalism and profits
shape dance culture.
With the popularizing of club culture has come an equal mainstreaming of its components. As Fiona
Buckland discusses in her book Impossible Dance: Club Culture and Queer World Making, the music
of today s clubs such as garage, hard house and Hi NRG imply a historical continuity with gay parties

Design Of Modern Architecture And Navigation
Design in modern architecture is an increasingly organic process in which architects attempt to build
unconventional forms and structures. In the ancient world, geometry was used as a practical tool to
solve problems in fields such as architecture and navigation. As fragmented knowledge grew,
mathematicians felt the need to approach geometry in a more systematic fashion. (Thorgeirsson 3) The
key for understanding the structure of organic forms is abandoning Euclidean geometry, which does
not describe the elements of the natural world. Instead it merely simplifies it using ideal forms such as
line, circle, square, cubes. (Gawell 35) A dynamic development of digital tools supporting the
application of non Euclidean geometry enables architects and designers to develop both visually
appealing and structurally sound buildings. In the era of generative design and highly advanced
software, spatial structures can be modeled in the hyperbolic, elliptic or fractal geometry. This paper
focuses on non Euclidean geometry and its use in architecture. One of the non Euclidean geometries
used in modern architecture is elliptic geometry. It is also known as spherical geometry, a special case
of the Riemann geometry for a constant and positive curvature. (Gawell 35) In elliptic geometry, all
the straight lines are closed lines with a finite length and two different points may be connected by
two segments. Historically this nothing new in architecture. Elliptic geometric elements have been

The Life and Works of Michelangelo
La vita di Michelangelo
Michelangelo, one of the greatest artist of all time, he is a man whose the word virtuoso is imprinted
in his name itself. Michelangelo began his artistic career being apprenticed to a great master of the
arts. His master, who taught him the art techniques, was Domenico Girlandaio. After watching the
talented young apprentice, Girlandaio sent him to the city of Florence, to learn from Lorenzo de
Medici. School of Lorenzo de Medici, Michelangelo remained for two years (1490 1492). In Florence,
received artistic influences of various painters, sculptors and intellectuals of the time, since the city
was a major center of cultural production.
In his early life, Michelangelo was born in a family of bankers, unfortunately not successful ones.
Thus the Michelangelo family moved every so often and after a few months of Michelangelo s birth,
they moves to Florence where he was raised in most of his childhood. Unfortunately, their streak of
bad luck continues since his mother became ill and weak to a point at the age of six, Michael lost his
mother. As he was growing up, Michelangelo was put in a school of grammar although his presences
were more into art and preferred to copy paintings I church and even be in the company of painters. At
that time, Florence was the greatest city of the arts in Italy and also in architecture itself. As he was

Platos Republic Essay
Plato s Republic
Critics of The Republic, Plato s contribution to the history of political theory, have formed two distinct
opinions on the reasoning behind the work. The first group believes that The Republic is truly a model
for a political society, while the other strongly objects to that, stating it as being far too fantastic for
any society to operate successfully by these suggested methods. In an exchange between Crito and
Dionysius, this argument is first introduced, with Crito siding with those who agree that The Republic
is a realistic political model, and Dionysius arguing on behalf of those who doubt it as being realistic,
claiming it to be a criticism of politics in general. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his fifth chapter, entitled The Problem Stated, Plato introduces what he believes to be wrong with
the current system of politics (Plato 41).
He starts by describing the Social Contract theory (Plato 53), the method used during his time, a
method Plato rejected. It says:
all the customary rules of religion and moral conduct imposed on the individual by social sanctions
have their origin in human intelligence and will and always rest on tacit consent. They are neither laws
of nature nor divine enactments, but conventions which man who made them can alter, as laws are
changed or repealed by legislative bodies.
It is assumed that, if all these artificial restraints were removed, the natural man would be left only
with purely egotistic instincts and desires, which he would indulge in all that Thrasymachus
commended as injustice (Plato 41 42).
In response to this description, Plato wrote,
First, I will state what is commonly held about the nature of justice and its origin; secondly, I shall
maintain that it is always practiced with reluctance, not as good in itself, but as a thing one cannot do
without; and thirdly, that this reluctance is reasonable, because the life of injustice is much the better
life of the two so people say. That is not what I

What Was The Schlieffen Plan
Schlieffen Plan became the German armed forces association of war towards France and Russia. The
Schlieffen Plan was made by means of Alfred Von Schlieffen, German Head of body of workers in
1904. The association was changed in 1905 to answer the two dangers of France and Russia. The
Schlieffen Plan became the operational association for an assigned assault on France once Russia,
because of universal pressure, had began to bring together their powers near the German outskirt. This
caused England having struggle on Germany in 1914. Schlieffen brought up to the Kaiser that his
arrangement is completed by 1916. He imagined that Germany can be sufficiently solid to have a

Machiavelli
Machiavelli
Nicolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy on May 3, 1469 to attorney Bernardo di Nicolò
Machiavelli and wife Bartolomea di Stefano Nelli. Despite being the third child, Machiavelli was the
first son born to the couple. Machiavelli was born in a tumultuous era in which popes waged
acquisitive wars against Italian city states, and people and cities often fell from power as France,
Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and Switzerland battled for regional influence and control. Political
military alliances continually changed, featuring condottieri (mercenary leaders), who changed sides
without warning, and the rise and fall of many short lived governments. Peace was restored to

He drank in the company of peasants, fought in local villages and railed at his fate. At night, he
dressed in the old robes of office, sat at his desk, and wrote. He drew on his experiences in

personal accounts and experiences in order to write The Prince. In the book, Machiavelli describes
how to take and maintain control of foreign lands with any means necessary, regardless of morals.
Because how one ought to live is so far removed from how one lives that he who lets go of what is
done for that which one ought to do sooner learns ruin than his own preservation: because a man who
might want to make a show of goodness in all things necessarily comes to ruin among so many who
are not good. Because of this it is necessary for a prince, wanting to maintain himself, to learn how to
be able to be not good and to use this and not use it according to necessity (Machiavelli). The Prince is
different from other books about creating and controlling principalities because it doesn t tell you what
an ideal prince or principality is, but Machiavelli explains through examples, which princes are the
most successful in obtaining and maintaining power. Machiavelli draws his examples from personal
observations made while he was on diplomatic missions for Florence and from his readings in ancient
history. His writing has the mark of the Renaissance upon it because he sprinkles his text with Latin

The Similarities Between Classical Music and Ellington s Jazz
One of the greatest tragedies in the 20th century can be seen in the debasing of the Jazz genre as a
unworthy equal to it s predecessor, European Classical music. This can be seen in various statements
about Jazz, such as Boris Gibalin commit, The Jazz Mania has taken on the character of a lingering
illness and must be cured by means of forceful intervention. 1 This conflict can be traced through out
the history of Jazz, as Classical composers have relatively disregarded this new type of music. Before
Duke Ellington s Cotton Club performances, Jazz play on the radio was delegated for late night
audience only. This sub culture treatment has led many critics to disregard the Jazz movement as a
dance craze, or unsuccessful recreations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To most people the infusion of African tonality into Duke Ellington s music to create Negro art ,
questions the connection between European music and Jazz. Here Constant Lambert responds to this.
If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his
to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg
and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart
from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of
Grieg 6
One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated
to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition
he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or
Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Here is the contradiction,
for no Classical composer has ever been chastise for creativity in their sound, and yet how do you
explain the criticism of Ellington s work? The intentional fusing of African and European tonality is
nothing more than a continuation of numerous inventive techniques used by musicians as seen in the
changing sounds and techniques of Classical music over time? Thus to criticize Duke for his
originality one would also have

Cinematic Techniques In Ender s Game By Gavin Hood
Gavin Hood s Ender s Game is a great showing of power with the help of cinematic techniques. Some
examples of these cinematic techniques are point of view or P.O.V shots, close ups, over the shoulder,
wide angle shots, special effects (FX) and sound. Hood use of power helps convey the plot and
characters personality. Many times during the movie Hood uses wide angle and over the shoulder
shots to show the control and power Colonel Graff, played by Harrison Ford, possesses. During their
first lesson on board the Battle School, the Colonel is shown on a giant screen in front of all the
launchies . This is shown through a wide angle shot behind the launchies . This shot gives the viewer
proof of the Colonels power. Another way Hood shows the Colonel s power is close up shots an
example of this is when the launchies including Ender Wiggin are launched towards battle school.

The Ethics Of The Enron Scandal
The definition of ethics is living one s life according to right or wrong behavior both towards others
and themselves (Ghillyer, 2014). How a person derived to their beliefs of right or wrong is a direct
reflection of several factors such as; family upbringing, and religious dynamics. Each of these
characteristics plays a major role in the direct choices a person will make in their day to day lives.
While some people can stand by their personal beliefs regardless of the situation, there are some who
are heavily influenced by others.
However, in the business world, the influence of power and money has cost people their livelihoods as
well as compromised their self dignity on many levels. One highly publicized scandal that many have
known and read about is the Enron Scandal. The motive behind what a person will do remains endless
as it is seen in this unfortunate tale of lies and greed in one corporation. The part that many question

In the 21st Century many things have been called into question. Among those things is the adversarial

hybrid of the two. This essay will aim to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both the current

The Analysis On Ephesians Prefacing The Book The Bible ...
In the ESV study bible, the authors wrote an excerpt on Ephesians prefacing the author, title, date,
background information, and a description of the ancient city of Ephesus. Relating to the author of
Ephesians all scholars believed that Paul wrote the letter, until recent times where many scholars
propose that an imitator or a follower of Paul wrote the letter. The scholars give two reasons for this
theory, the first is the letter s style does not represent Pauline thought, and the second being the
authors unfamiliarity with the recipients. In contrast, some scholars say there is ample proof of Pauline
authorship; the first reason is the letter explicitly claims to be Paul s in Ephesians 1:1 and 3:1, and the
second reason subsists in more analysis of the text and that it is similar to other Pauline texts. The
final argument for Pauline authorship is the forcefulness of the author s speech mentioned in
Ephesians 4:15, and verse 25. In these two verses, the argument that the author is unfamiliar with the
audience stands debunked because the author commands of them and the author addresses the unity
they all possess. Secondly, an important historical component for understanding the context of
Ephesians is to know the date it is written and background information of why Paul wrote the letter.
Scholars suggest that Paul wrote Ephesians in 62 AD when he was under house arrest in Rome, this
conclusion comes from Paul mentioning his imprisonment in Ephesians 3:1, 4:1, and 6:20.

over their addiction. This falls in with the Disease Model. According to the disease model the
addiction is in the individual s brain. Therefore, the addict is incapable of controlling their own use

She had to learn how to handle her fear of group functions that didn t involve the use of drugs.
Another role that is used to help explain what shapes an addiction is Social Learning Model.
Individuals modify their choices and use of substance in response to changes in the social environment
(pg. 25). This is done by watching family members or friends use drugs or alcohol. It can also be done
by going to parties or events, and drinking to feel comfortable. To overcome this the individual needs
to change their relationships and social environment that makes them want to use. Individuals in the
support groups are coming together to find a support from peers that don t encourage them to use
substances. They work together and build each other up on their road to recovery. In both groups I
witness love and support from everyone. If one person admitted they were struggling the member next
them would put their arm around them and give them encouraging words. They become each other s
support. Practice/Intervention Every addict has their own trigger that can push them towards relapse.
For an addict to overcome their addiction they must understand what their triggers are. Then it s trying
to understand how to avoid that trigger or come up with healthier coping skills to handle the triggers.

The Medical Field, Dentistry And School Nursing
There are many different careers available in the medical field, including dentistry and school nursing.
Dentists work with patients to fix and help maintain the health of their teeth and school nurses work
with other educators and children to help with injuries and teach proper techniques of being healthy.
While they are both a part of the medical field, dentists and school nurses are very different, including
the requirements for entering the field, job responsibilities, and work environments. To become a
dentist, one must go through many years of schooling and pass an exam. The person must get an
undergraduate degree, preferably in a science such as: biology, chemistry, or another major with the
required math and science classes. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurses and dentists require many of the same qualities to be successful in their careers. They must
both have good interpersonal skills, which include patience and understanding. They must be good at
communicating with their patients and the people they work with ( Doctors of Oral ). They have to be
easily adaptable when working with others and working alone. Both dentists and school nurses have to
have good leadership qualities when dealing with other people in their offices. A large knowledge base
is necessary for being prepared for many different situations that can occur (Careers 172). The ability
to be calm in emergency situations is vital when working with children, whether as a dentist or school
nurse (DeGrandpre). School nurse s jobs range from treating patients to dealing with other educators.
The International Council of Nurses states that the function of nursing is fourfold to promote health,
prevent illness, restore health, and alleviate suffering ( Nursing ).They attend to students and teachers
injuries, along with anyone else on campus who may get hurt ( Nursing 816). School nurses also
attend meetings with other educators. They give presentations and teach students and educators the
proper techniques for being healthy. Another part of being a school nurse is doing paperwork and
keeping records (Careers 171). Record keeping can include each child s immunizations, heights,
weights, vision and hearing. School nurses also develop and

Why is Nancy such an important character in the novel Oliver Twist ?
{1837 1839}
Oliver Twist was probably one of the most popular novels of its time.
Within Oliver Twist the characters were the central main focus of the novel.
Oliver: the main character is made to appeal to the reader s sense of sympathy. Meanwhile Fagin is
loathed by the reader. Nancy is seen as not so important by the reader but actually is the most
important character after Oliver. So just why is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows her loyalty to Bill Sikes and maybe Fagin and this could be a problem for her and Oliver
later on in the novel.
Nancy is seen rescuing Oliver many times but then dragging him back into trouble just when he is
about to get out. She is confused because at first she kidnaps Oliver and, then, she protects him from
Bullseye
(Bill s dog). Then Nancy collects Oliver from Fagin so he can be used on a burglary with Bill Sikes.
Then Nancy has a discussion with Fagin and later overhears a conversation between him and Monks
about Olivier which again changes her mind! Nancy then visits Rose Maylie and then a few days later
she is planning to visit her again but Sikes won t let her out of the house. After meeting Brownlow and
Rose, Fagin suspects something, and Nancy is brutally murdered by the psychotic Bill Sikes!
Nancy is such an important character in the novel Oliver Twist for many reasons, the most important
being that because she helps Oliver escape from the criminal underworld she is risking her own life to
save his. She gets whacked by Bill Sikes for trying to help Oliver and trying to hide him and it is at
this point she is realised as an important character. It s like that saying everyone gets famous after they
die! Nancy is important to the plot development because she is shown as double sided in the novel but
when Fagin employs Noah
Claypole to spy on Nancy it builds up sympathy

paper investigates both the uses of tunnels of the Vietnam War and primarily their impact on anti
communist forces. Manifold quotes from American military leaders and Vietnamese leaders, an officer
s memoir, and details of pertinent military operations were utilized to assess the extent to which
tunnels affected the enemy. While the tunnels served primarily as a means of combat, they additionally
provided the Viet Cong with shelter, protection, and underground communities. The United States
entered the war with high expectations of decimating the enemy through heavy artillery. The Viet
Cong however, easily resisted the American firepower through the use of tunnels, which lent them

The Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The theme of The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is the reason society is flawed is because
people are flawed. Although Piggy is knowledgeable, he has many flaws including his laziness and
physical inabilities. Ralph is an authority seeker. He sets rules and laws, yet does little to enforce
them. Ralph wants to be the ruler, without doing the work to enforce his laws. Jack is persistent. He is
rude, harsh and violent in order to get what he wants. He wants to be supreme. Piggy s flaws are
impactful in the story. His laziness and lack of physical ability hurt him in his quest for survival. Piggy
is incapable of completing physical undertakings. This, in turn, lowers Piggy s chance of survival on
the island. Piggy brings forth a suggestion to make a sundial clock. Ralph explains his feelings about
Piggy s ideas. ... his matter of fact ideas were dull... (Golding 65). Piggy was an outsider, not only by
accent, which did not matter, but by fat, and ass mar, and specs, and a certain disinclination for manual
labor (Golding 65). Ralph exclaims the group doesn t have the supplies for a sundial clock and thinks
Piggy is uneducated. Ralph states Piggy just thinks of impractical ideas while he sits and does no
physical labor. Piggy is different and does not blend in with the others, not only physically but he has
a unique personality as well. Ralph wants complete control of the island. He wants to be in command
of everything while he sits back and does nothing. Ralph gives

The Pros And Cons Of Bullying In School
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school everyday
because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen ( Bullying Statistics ). Bullying has been a
major problem in schools for too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed
to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they
deserve which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are
getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished.
Students who bully should be suspended from school.
The bullies in schools never think they will get severely punished, so they don t stop. They think that
they won t be caught and that bullying isn t a huge deal, but it is. Bullying causes students to not go to
school, to feel alone, and to leave their school feeling worthless. If the bully were to be suspended,
he/she would learn quickly that what they are doing is wrong in so many ways. They will realize that
bullying can be the reason they don t get into their dream school or do something they love. On the
other hand, victims of bullying don t come forward and voice that the have been taunted, teased, and
tormented because they don t think the school will help them. 67 percent of students feel that their
school doesn t hear about their bullying and doesn t do anything that will prevent it (Soard). A great

Role Models As A Role Model
A role model is an imperfect person, not a perfect person, because that s who we are as real people
(Jennifer Love Hewitt) Everyone one needs somebody to look up to. During the video of the greatest
love of all Whitney Huston shows a couple of things. She wants tries to prove a point during the
video. The point she is trying to prove is that everyone needs a role model or even someone to look up
to.
When you re a little kid most of the time your first role models are a doctor, firefighter, or a teacher.
Most kids look up to them because they save lives. When kids think of doctors, they think of someone
helping their ailments. They look at firefighters as a positive role model because they save people out
of fires. They see them as role models because they are helping someone while putting their life at
risk. Kids most of the time think that teachers are role models because they see them in the class room
helping them. The teacher s best intentions are for the kids to get better and grow. That s why some
kids look up to teachers. These are some of the common role models for kids. There are so many
different role models. Its honestly up to the person to look up to them. Every man for himself.
Everyone has their own opinion. Your role model is the person in your opinion you look up to. No one
else can tell you who and what you can look up to.
During the video Whitney Hutson is trying to show flash backs of her life. In the beginning, she shows
a little girl and an older lady

Tyco has managed to make improvements, from restructuring the company ethics statement, to
meeting each employee personally, supplying them with a company ethics statement, and publishing a
quarterly report on any problems employees brought to the company s attention, and compiling the
findings and disciplinary actions (Cummins, 2006, para. 13). Pillmore may be strict and controlling
but he has turned Tyco around by improving employee behavior, creating a trustful environment and
communicating with Tyco employees. MFSI s CEO needs to consider such changes as Tyco has
implemented, to be in compliance with federal guidelines, build trusting relationships with his
employees and change the tone of MFSI s corporate culture by adhering to a new corporate
governance plan. Basically, in critiquing and analyzing the roles of the key leaders of corporate
governance to assess the function of ethics in compliance, key concepts and the best practices of
Calpine Corporation have also been considered to help MFSI. According to Chew and Gillan (2005),
During the past decade many CEOs of large companies have become highly visible public figures, and
while MFSI is still evolving, pressure to act appropriately exists (p. 1). This visibility increases
accountability for leaders corporate governance. In the case of MFSI, the CEO is faced with critical

Genetic Information vs Privacy Essay
The genetic technology revolution has proved to be both a blessing and a blight. The Human Genome
Project is aimed at mapping and sequencing the entire human genome. DNA chips are loaded with
information about human genes. The chip reveals specific information about the individuals health
and genetic makeup (Richmond Germov 2009).The technology has been described as a milestone by
many in that it facilitates research, screening, and treatment of genetic conditions. However, there
have been fears that the technology permits a reduction in privacy when the information is disclosed.
Many argue that genetic information can also be used unfairly to discriminate against or stigmatize
individuals (Willis 2009).
Doctors, hospitals and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when those involved in these legitimate activities make demands that seem inappropriate, the
records must be protected. Disclosure of personal medical information should also be subject to
patients or families consent (Richmond et al. 2009).
Although the gene chip will enable an individual to know whether he/she has a genetic disease, that
person may not want to know the information. Many people are frightened that a positive finding on a
genetic test will result in discrimination and ostracism because the society will consider them
abnormal (Easthope 2005). The other concern is that with genetic test information one might lose or
might be unable to get a job or insurance. There have been concerns that with the knowledge of one s
medical information after a gene test, he/she might suffer a psychological problem especially when the
results reveal that one suffers from a terminal disease or has high possibility of suffering from one
(Willis 2009).
The testing is not a bad idea as such but it should not be done to children. This regards to personal
autonomy where it would be better if the testing is delayed until an individual is old enough to make
his or her own decision about the test. A person s genetic information should be private and
counselling should be done to elucidate the basis for and consequences of the test in question.
Individuals should be allowed to choose when and which

The Color Purple Coming Of Age Essay
Steven Spielberg s The Color Purple, explores the sufferings that black women went through in the
1900s. Growing up, Celie has always been controlled and abused by men, being told not to smile
because she is ugly. Her entire childhood and early adulthood she has been treated as just an object,
being abused and raped by her father who then marries her off to a man named Albert, who just does
the same thing. The only person Celie ever truly loved, and who loved her back, was her sister Nettie,
who unfortunately was separated from her at a young age. While being abused and mistreated, she is
still able to find herself through the strength and determination to reconnect with her sister, relating to
the theme of The Color Purple as a coming of age film. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Celie reads one of Nettie s letters, telling of her time in Africa, Albert discovers her. Furious, he
slaps her across the face, exclaiming he has been calling her for an hour. He wants her to shave his
face. The mise en scene cuts to kids walking by Shug Avery on a beautiful sunny day, who asks them
Where s Celie? Fix n to shave Mister, one of them tells her. A tilt shot starts at her face, then slowly
goes down to her hands where she is painting her nails red, which sets the mood of the scene as dark
and frightening. She slowly stops painting her nails, as the scene cuts to Celie sharpening her blade,
and then to another scene in Africa of a man playing an instrument the same way Celie is sharpening
her blade. The scenes continue to switch between each other for about four minutes, showing
continuity editing and juxtapositions. The scene in Africa shows a village gathering around a boy and
a girl, who are appearing to be part of a ritual of getting their faces pierced, which I assume is a

Catalase Test Essay
Results The catalase test was positive for unknown #4. After addition of hydrogen peroxide the
sample began to bubble. The bubbles indicated that the unknown produced catalase that broke down
the hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas ( Microbugz ). The initial coagulase test was
inconclusive. After the addition of coagulase in the second attempt, the sample began to clump
indicating that the unknown bacteria possessed the ability to produce fibrin barriers ( Microbugz ).
After the 18 hour incubation period, the bile esculin tube turned completely brown. This indicated that
unknown #4 could hydrolyze esculin to esculetin and dextrose which reacts with the ferric citrate in
the media to produce a dark brown or black color ( Microbugz ). ... Show more content on

aureus. Since B. subtilus was not an organism available in the lab, at this point, it was safe to assume
that unknown #4 was S. aureus. The positive results for the bile esculin and blood agar and the
negative SFB results provided further evidence of S. aureus. The only test that did not go as planned
was the MSA. No growth was observed on either of the plates even though S. aureus can grow in
hypersaline environments and ferment mannitol. The plate should have turned yellow from acid
production and exhibited growth. Perhaps the sample was dying and couldn t grow on either MSA
plate or the strain possessed a mutation that took away its ability to grow on that media. The only way
to know for sure would be to run more tests and perhaps a sequence of the genome to scan for
mutations or abnormalities. However, the back up TSA slant turning blue, albeit not a biochemical
test, also supported the conclusion that S. aureus was unknown #4 because S. aureus can turn TSA
slants blue. The Gram negative rod, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, can also turn TSA slants blue because
of pyocyanin production, but the majority of the biochemical tests supported S.

The Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid )
Introduction As technology advances, businesses use technology to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry.
These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients,
doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack
of communication or people with serious conditions. (Hu, 2015) With hospitals finding different way
to attract new patients in, these devices also help hospitals save money on the management side to
keep them afloat. This advanced technology has great potential to improve patient experience in
healthcare by taking away human error out of the equation.
Literature Review RFID uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attach to
objects. These tags contain electronically stored information. The information can be read by RFID
readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or
RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag
to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to
continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. The information is transfer efficiently
and automatically without human intervention. (Yao, 2012) RFIDs can be used the 5 areas that are
considered to be where

  • 2. Essay about ESTATE GIFT TAX P5 Problem 5 (1) Grantor creates a trust with income to Spouse for life, remainder to Child if living and, if not, reversion to Grantor or Grantor s estate. (a) If Grantor predeceases Spouse and Child, is Section 2037 applicable to the transfer? No. Section 2037 is not applicable to the transfer. Based on Section 2037, The value of the gross estate shall include the value of all property to the extent of any interest therein of which the decedent has at any time after September7, 1916, made a transfer, by trust or otherwise, if (1) possession or enjoyment of the property can, through ownership of such interest, be obtained only by ... And also A can possess or enjoy the property without surviving the decedent. What are included? Since section 2037 does not apply in this case, and the decedent made the gift within three years of death. Section 2035(a) invoked to cause inclusion in the gross estate. Based on section 2035(a), If (1) the decedent made a transfer (by trust or otherwise) of an interest in any property, or relinquished a power with respect to any property, during the 3 year period ending on the date of the decedent s death, and (2) the value of such property would have been included in the decedent s gross estate under section 2036, 2037,2038, or 2042 if such transferred interest or relinquished power had been retained by the decedent on the date of his death. The value of the gross estate shall include the value of any property (or interest therein) which would have been so included. As a result, the value included in the decedent s estate is still the full property less the value of the spouse s outstanding life estate. • 3. The Christian Church In The Middle Ages Some Catholic writers justified their rights to papal supremacy by way of forging political alliances with influential political entities. While instituting for itself, prominence amongst the churches, the establishing of the Bishops status within the community as well as his position in political affairs were realized. As the conflicts amongst the Christian communities of the eastern and western sphere continued, the isolation and dislocation of these communities fueled the weakening of unity amongst European civilization. From here, the Roman Catholic Church established its intricate hierarchy with the pope as the head of the churches in the west, placing the possession of supreme power into his hands. The Middle Ages were full of innovations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of these that of the priests is the more weighty, since they have to render an account for even the kings of men in the divine judgment. You are also aware, dear son, that while you are permitted honorably to rule over human kind, yet in things divine you bow your head humbly before the leaders of the clergy and await from their hands the means of your salvation. In the reception and proper disposition of the heavenly mysteries you recognize that you should be subordinate rather than superior to the religious order, and that in these matters you depend on their judgment rather than wish to force them to follow your will. (Placher, 1988, Pg. 123). This seemed to be an attempt to outline the limits of royal power and the ecclesiastical authority concerning the prominent position of the emperors in affairs of the state and Church. The emperor was to be an example of God on earth. Furthermore, it was critical that he lead the people to God in caring for the secular needs as well as for their spiritual ... • 4. The Transformation of Hal in Shakespeare s Henry IV Essay The Transformation of Hal in Henry IV In Shakespeare s Henry IV, the character Hal, the Prince of Wales, undergoes a transformation that can be characterized as a redemption. Shakespeare introduces Hal, in the opening act as a renegade of the Court. His avoidance of all public responsibility and his affinity for the company of the Boar s Head Tavern, have caused serious concern for the King, because Hal is heir to the throne. The King realizes that to keep order, a ruler and his heir must prove to be both responsible and honorable; from the outset Hal possesses neither quality. The King even testifies to his own advisor, that he would have rather traded Hal for Hotspur, the son of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a plea to his father, Hal vows that he will redeem his tarnished identity at the expense of Hotspur, saying I will redeem all of this on Percy s head, (3.2.137). However, the act of redemption does not only occur as the result of realization and motivation. Redemption needs for these ideas to be put into action. At the end of Act 5.4, using his realization and motivation as a basis for his actions, Hal consummates his transformation, by physically saving his father from Douglas and defeating Hotspur in a single combat at the Battle of Shrewsbury. Thus, the Prince of Wales has performed, what he had originally promised to do in his opening soliloquy, to redeem his reputation. The phases of, realization,

However, Hal s redemption occurs only as the product of all three phases, and as a result, it causes a significant change in the character of the Prince. The first phase of Hal s transformation is marked by realization. Hal realizes that his life of truancy must end. This realization in turn, provides him with a basis for redemption, which is marked by Hal s soliloquy at the end of Act 1.2. However, Hal s soliloquy is not the result of a striking realization. American Civil War Experiences of the American Civil War (1861 1865): Honor, Duty and Death Introduction The following pages are an essay on the cause of the American Civil War (1861 1865) and the effects that the war had upon the soldiers, women and African Americans of the North and the South. In this essay I will write about the following topics and present a view of how the war was witnessed by these different groups of people. In regards to the soldiers of the North and the South, I will answer the following questions: What was the enthusiasm of the soldiers from the North and the South before the war? What was their perspective after the fighting had started? How did the soldiers of the invading armies treat the civil population? The horrors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soldier s perspectives on the length of the war were influenced by the motivation to protect their way of life. In describing the sentiments of Union and Confederate soldiers we can use some examples that are in letters sent home by the soldiers. One Kentucky confederate wrote, I choose to fight for southern rights and southern liberty against the vandals of the North who were determined to destroy slavery [vi]. Another opinion by a Wisconsin Union soldier states his reasons for fighting in the war, I have no heart in this war if the slaves cannot go free [vii]Both the North and the South believed to be fighting to preserve the society that was prevalent in the respective regions of the United States. The South was trying to protect the institution of slavery and their society. The North, at the start of the war, only had the intention to overcome the succession, but they later realized that it could only do this by destroying slavery[viii]. When it became apparent to the soldiers on the battlefield that the war would not end quickly, the tone of enthusiasm changed. An example of the change in attitude can be obtained from the following passage that was written by the Union soldier Jno R. McClure to his sister in 1862 I will tell you what I think and that is the north will never whip the south as long as there is a man left in the south. They fight like wild devles. • 7. Plato’s Theory of Forms Essay Plato s Theory of Forms Plato was born, the son of Ariston and Perictione, in about 428 BC. His family, on both sides, was among the most distinguished in Athens. He was born in Athens into a very wealthy family and as a young man was a student of Socrates. Plato is probably one of the best known philosophers. Plato embarked on a period of extensive travel, returning to Athens some years later. In 387 BCE he established the Academy, a school devoted to philosophical debate and learning. Aristotle was a student at the Academy for about the last twenty years of Plato s life. At the heart of all Plato s philosophy is his Theory of Forms, sometimes called the Theory of Ideas. Plato ... The world of sense is at a constant change, so how can the truth be known if the world never stays the same from one moment to the next. Plato believed there was a certain truth, but this material world cannot answer it. The material world only presents appearances, which lead us to make opinions, not knowledge. Plato believes there is truth on a different plane, on the non material world of forms. He alleged that in order for something to be real, it had to be permanent and unchanging. In order to see exactly what a form is and how it differs from a material object, we need to look at the first two of the properties that characterize the forms. The forms are transcendent. This means that they do not exist in space and time. A material object, a basketball, exists at a particular place at a particular time. A form, roundness, does not exist at any place or time. The forms exist, or subsist, in a different way. This is especially important because it explains why the forms are unchanging. A form such as roundness will never change; it does not even exist in time. It is the same at all times or places in which it might be instantiated. The initial characterization of Alice before her transformation, is of a woman who s insecure and an unconfident housewife to the bread winner of the house and the personal hurdles she overcomes during the process. It is a true lifetime s worth if looked at from the perspective of Mr. younger senior, who first rented the apartment with his young wife and raised his family there and who has recently passed away. In so vividly describing the furnishings of the apartment Hansberry is at the same time describing the condition of the younger family members. • 13. Applications Applications of the Scientific Method: Everyday Life Selina Mathieu Strayer University Professor Olivia Uitto SCI 110 August 9, 2015 The scientific method is a process for experimentation used to explore observations and answer questions. It is used unconsciously by many on a daily basis and understanding how to apply the method can be valuable in making decisions and solving problems. For this assignment, I have chosen to use the scientific method to demonstrate how to organize my cluttered apartment to fit two storage units thus eliminating two bills and lowering my debt. First I will ask a question or make an observation such as how will I fit two storage units into my small apartment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would then test my hypothesis again and realize I can accept it. Finally, a conclusion must be reached to wrap up the scientific method. By following the steps, I find that I would be able to fill my apartment much better, save or make money, and make numerous donations. I also found that these moves could be done much faster if I had help, so informing friends and family of my decision would also work. For an even smoother outcome, I would have to be sure that all the materials I would need were readily available. I would need paper and pens, a camera, and measuring tape for the initial part of my experiment. I would have to make a list of places to donate to and make sure they are able to give me receipts for tax purposes. There are also those in need that could use some of the extra items I have to make it through the upcoming winter. Making a schedule of my availability helps ensure I have enough time to focus on this project without running into other schedules. Adding a deadline and some goals can help motivate one to stay on task so as not to push the project to the side and increase debt. The scientific method can easily be used in everyday life and in some instances is required in order to get thru the day successfully. I would guess that we are taught throughout our lives to perfect such methods and we became so used to the perfection that we can now apply the method without laying out the steps but it helps to write them down to ... The results of Redi s experiment were that the jars of meat that were sealed with lids seemed to have no flies, maggots nor eggs entered in the jars, but the jars of meat that were unsealed appeared to have flies entered into the jars, hatched eggs on the meat and produced maggots that grew up to become adult flies. Lastly, for the jars of meat that were sealed with gauze, few maggots were seen in the meat because the flies hatched eggs on the gauze and those eggs were dropped down to the meat. • 15. Advantage Of Globalization Today, globalization concepts are mainly used in three areas: social, economic, and political. Because of globalization, an increase in the mobility of goods and people, communications, corporations, and standard of living has occurred but also a loss of culture and environmental issues, too. Some people view globalization as a way of the future while others see it as the source of current global dissent. Globalization is both a boon and a curse when it comes to international trade, wealth, labor, and cultures however it has been impacted and influenced the most by economic interactions. When it comes to the advantages, globalization has touched all the three areas to some extent. For example, economically NAFTA, an organization between USA, Canada, and Mexico for free trade, has led to a creation of jobs in less developed countries. The creation of free trades has caused the prices of goods to lower and has increased trade and ideas. Also, multinational corporations such as Mcdonald s, Disney and more have made products to be found across the globe. When viewing the advantages politically, foreign policy has played a big role in which it builds relationships with other nations and stronger political and economic locations. Overall, foreign policy has helped keep country s safe, discourage war, benefit from natural resources from other nations, and maintain ideology. Examples such as the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015, which told Iran to stop its nuclear program, shows how foreign policy has been positively affected. Nation s promoting nationalism and democracy has also been a positive effect politically. In addition, the use of international aids has helped countries like Haiti in need of relief effort. Finally, social interactions like the spread of language and culture, and global sports competitions have greatly impacted society in numerous ways. The spread of the English language due to the British colonization has now made English a dominant language, which makes communications easier than ever before. In addition, the spread of culture has influenced others across the world and has the people more open minded overall. The Trading Dynamics of Institutional Investors The fraction of corporate equity owned by institutional investors has grown considerably in the past several decades; institutional holding of shares in U.S. equities has increased from approximately 16% in 1965 to over 50% in 2010 (Federal Reserve Board, 2011). The fact that institutional investors are managing such a sizable wealth invested in U.S. equity market has potential important role in term of setting market prices. The growing impact of institutional investors on capital markets has induced to increased research on the behavior of this group of investors both by academics and policy makers, who tend to believe that institutional investor follow momentum based strategies, and often are alleged to herdinglike behavior and following destabilizing trading strategies. Recent studies investigating the behavior of institutional investors document three main results. First, institutional investors are momentum traders (buying past winners and selling past losers) and are more likely to follow past prices (citet*{grinblatt1995momentum}). Second, Institutional investors sometimes trade in the same direction over a period of time or engage in herding behavior (citet{wermers1999mutual}). Finally, the contemporaneous association between changes in quarterly institutional holding and quarterly stock returns is much stronger than the feedback trading effect (citet{nofsinger1999herding,wermers1999mutual}). Instead, it has become the commercialized superclub, where profit rather than music is the bottom line. As a space traditionally influenced by homosexuals becomes a major business opportunity, this commercialization has led to the inclusion of gay subcultures within mainstream American society. However, this process has served to reinforce social stigma and stereotypes. Gone too are the days of exclusivity. As club culture has been mainstreamed, entrepreneurs have found the new sound not only revolutionary, but also profitable. Promoters and planners such as gay circuit guru John Blair offer free membership cards and litter the streets with flyers offering discounts when shown at the door. In the world of the superclub, capitalism and profits shape dance culture. With the popularizing of club culture has come an equal mainstreaming of its components. As Fiona Buckland discusses in her book Impossible Dance: Club Culture and Queer World Making, the music of today s clubs such as garage, hard house and Hi NRG imply a historical continuity with gay parties of the 1970s with deep roots in disco (2002, p. 67). Gay and black influences were a basic part of disco music, explored in Bernard Weinraub s article Here s to Disco, It Never Could Say Goodbye. The heritage that once put the music at odds with the more straight white male sensibility of the contemporary rock music of the era (Weinraub, 2002) is today a basic piece of the dance scene for straight and gay audiences alike. • 20. Design Of Modern Architecture And Navigation Design in modern architecture is an increasingly organic process in which architects attempt to build unconventional forms and structures. In the ancient world, geometry was used as a practical tool to solve problems in fields such as architecture and navigation. As fragmented knowledge grew, mathematicians felt the need to approach geometry in a more systematic fashion. (Thorgeirsson 3) The key for understanding the structure of organic forms is abandoning Euclidean geometry, which does not describe the elements of the natural world. Instead it merely simplifies it using ideal forms such as line, circle, square, cubes. (Gawell 35) A dynamic development of digital tools supporting the application of non Euclidean geometry enables architects and designers to develop both visually appealing and structurally sound buildings. In the era of generative design and highly advanced software, spatial structures can be modeled in the hyperbolic, elliptic or fractal geometry. This paper focuses on non Euclidean geometry and its use in architecture. One of the non Euclidean geometries used in modern architecture is elliptic geometry. It is also known as spherical geometry, a special case of the Riemann geometry for a constant and positive curvature. (Gawell 35) In elliptic geometry, all the straight lines are closed lines with a finite length and two different points may be connected by two segments. The first group believes that The Republic is truly a model for a political society, while the other strongly objects to that, stating it as being far too fantastic for any society to operate successfully by these suggested methods. In an exchange between Crito and Dionysius, this argument is first introduced, with Crito siding with those who agree that The Republic is a realistic political model, and Dionysius arguing on behalf of those who doubt it as being realistic, claiming it to be a criticism of politics in general. ... He starts by describing the Social Contract theory (Plato 53), the method used during his time, a method Plato rejected. It says: all the customary rules of religion and moral conduct imposed on the individual by social sanctions have their origin in human intelligence and will and always rest on tacit consent. They are neither laws of nature nor divine enactments, but conventions which man who made them can alter, as laws are changed or repealed by legislative bodies. It is assumed that, if all these artificial restraints were removed, the natural man would be left only with purely egotistic instincts and desires, which he would indulge in all that Thrasymachus commended as injustice (Plato 41 42). In response to this description, Plato wrote, First, I will state what is commonly held about the nature of justice and its origin; secondly, I shall maintain that it is always practiced with reluctance, not as good in itself, but as a thing one cannot do without; and thirdly, that this reluctance is reasonable, because the life of injustice is much the better life of the two so people say. In the book, Machiavelli describes how to take and maintain control of foreign lands with any means necessary, regardless of morals. Because how one ought to live is so far removed from how one lives that he who lets go of what is done for that which one ought to do sooner learns ruin than his own preservation: because a man who might want to make a show of goodness in all things necessarily comes to ruin among so many who are not good. To most people the infusion of African tonality into Duke Ellington s music to create Negro art , questions the connection between European music and Jazz. Here Constant Lambert responds to this. If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of Grieg 6 One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Here is the contradiction, for no Classical composer has ever been chastise for creativity in their sound, and yet how do you explain the criticism of Ellington s work? The intentional fusing of African and European tonality is nothing more than a continuation of numerous inventive techniques used by musicians as seen in the changing sounds and techniques of Classical music over time? In the ESV study bible, the authors wrote an excerpt on Ephesians prefacing the author, title, date, background information, and a description of the ancient city of Ephesus. Relating to the author of Ephesians all scholars believed that Paul wrote the letter, until recent times where many scholars propose that an imitator or a follower of Paul wrote the letter. The scholars give two reasons for this theory, the first is the letter s style does not represent Pauline thought, and the second being the authors unfamiliarity with the recipients. In contrast, some scholars say there is ample proof of Pauline authorship; the first reason is the letter explicitly claims to be Paul s in Ephesians 1:1 and 3:1, and the second reason subsists in more analysis of the text and that it is similar to other Pauline texts. The final argument for Pauline authorship is the forcefulness of the author s speech mentioned in Ephesians 4:15, and verse 25. In these two verses, the argument that the author is unfamiliar with the audience stands debunked because the author commands of them and the author addresses the unity they all possess. Secondly, an important historical component for understanding the context of Ephesians is to know the date it is written and background information of why Paul wrote the letter. Scholars suggest that Paul wrote Ephesians in 62 AD when he was under house arrest in Rome, this conclusion comes from Paul mentioning his imprisonment in Ephesians 3:1, 4:1, and 6:20. ... There Are Many Theoretical Concepts Theoretical concepts There are many theoretical concepts to explain addictions, a few that I see being used in NA and AA meetings is the Disease Model, Social Learning Model, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In both of the meetings I attended the members stood up and admitted they are powerless over their addiction. This falls in with the Disease Model. According to the disease model the addiction is in the individual s brain. Therefore, the addict is incapable of controlling their own use (Forcehimes, Miller Zweben, 2011, pg. 25). Research has also shown that certain individuals have a genetic risk factor that is likely to increase the likelihood of them developing an addiction. This put the blame on the addiction and not ... Another role that is used to help explain what shapes an addiction is Social Learning Model. Individuals modify their choices and use of substance in response to changes in the social environment (pg. 25). This is done by watching family members or friends use drugs or alcohol. It can also be done by going to parties or events, and drinking to feel comfortable. To overcome this the individual needs to change their relationships and social environment that makes them want to use. Individuals in the support groups are coming together to find a support from peers that don t encourage them to use substances. They work together and build each other up on their road to recovery. In both groups I witness love and support from everyone. If one person admitted they were struggling the member next them would put their arm around them and give them encouraging words. They become each other s support. Practice/Intervention Every addict has their own trigger that can push them towards relapse. For an addict to overcome their addiction they must understand what their triggers are. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry. These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients, doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack of communication or people with serious conditions. The information can be read by RFID readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry.
