Topics For Extended Definition Essay
Composing an essay on the subject of "Topics for Extended Definition Essay" can be a
challenging endeavor that demands a thoughtful approach and a comprehensive understanding of
the chosen theme. The difficulty lies not only in the requirement to define and elaborate on the
chosen topic but also in crafting a well-structured and engaging piece that captivates the reader's
attention.
One of the primary challenges is selecting a topic that is both interesting and suitable for an
extended definition essay. This task often involves thorough brainstorming and research to
identify a concept that not only has depth and complexity but also allows for nuanced
exploration. Additionally, the writer must navigate the fine line between offering a clear
definition and delving into the various dimensions and interpretations of the chosen term.
Furthermore, organizing the essay in a logical and coherent manner poses another hurdle. The
extended definition essay typically requires a careful arrangement of ideas, moving from the
general to the specific, and providing examples and evidence to support the writer's
interpretation. Striking the right balance between providing a comprehensive definition and
maintaining the reader's interest requires skillful writing and a keen understanding of the topic.
Moreover, avoiding clichГ©s and ensuring originality in expressing ideas can be challenging.
Given that extended definition essays often tackle broad and commonly known concepts,
finding a fresh perspective and presenting insights that stand out can be demanding. Writers
must strive to bring a unique voice to the essay, contributing a personal touch to the exploration
of the chosen topic.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Topics for Extended Definition Essay" requires navigating
through the intricacies of topic selection, organization, and expression. It demands not only a
strong command of language but also creativity and critical thinking. While the task may be
formidable, the rewards lie in the opportunity to delve deeply into a subject and offer readers a
fresh perspective on familiar concepts.

How Does Matsuo Basho s Journey Affect Literature
Matsuo Basho s journey has a significant impact on literature due to his well
written journals that reveal his lifestyle and experiences. In his first journal, The
Records of a Weather exposed Skeleton, Basho conveys his spiritual thoughts and
religious life that he experiences on a new journey. Basho s journal contains
several poems as he further reveals different people, traditions, and significant
places that made his journey more memorable. In Matsuo Basho s first journal he
reveals the several reasons on why he is travelling. Basho departs from his home
into the North in order to experience the culture aspects and nature of Japan.
Throughout, the first journal, we see Basho s search for enlightenment in his
pilgrimage. We see the different locations that Basho has gone to in order to learn
more and to be part of the traditions. As stated by Basho, ...I left my broken house
on the River Sumida in the August of the first year of Jyokyo among the wails of
the autumn wind (Basho 51). This quote explains that Basho leaves his home on a
long pilgrimage in order to discover more about religionand develop a better
understanding about Japanese culture as he is motivated to gain enlightenment. As he
travels we readers realize how Basho becomes aware at... Show more content on

As a poet Basho s phenomenal word choice and description allowed us readers to
view his journey as if we are there with him. It is amazing to see that Basho is such
a religious person who has visited various shrines, temples, and met many new and
old friends and created new haiku s. In addition, this reading was interesting to me
because it shows Basho s motivation to become more enlightened and his choice to
live according to Buddha s life as expressed through his poems. Reading this journal

Descriptive Essay On Copenhagen
Copenhagen is arguably one of Europe s most beautiful cities. The multi color
merchant houses along the Nyhavn port area have been an unforgettable image of
the city since they were built in the 12th century. For over 250 years, well to do

250 year history is the history this of Copenhagen itself. This city icon has been the
site of many of Denmarks political, royal, and national events and has welcomed
elites from kings, and heads of state to pop and movie stars.
The hotel could not be in a better position to take in all the Copenhagen has to offer
guests. Many of the city s most coveted attractions are in walking distance as is the
metro which is less than a block away. Aside from strolling along the waterfront and
Nyhavn which is steps away, guest may want to visit the changing or the guards at
the Amalienborg Palace, a play at the Royal Danish Theatreor take a fascinating boat
ride around the city. For the fashionista, there are walking streets full of major fashion
brands and designer boutiques nearby.
Hotel d Angelterre is a grand palais building with a baroque and neoclassical design,

Analyzing Vince Gilligan s Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad, created in 2008 by Vince Gilligan, is an incredibly popular television
show that depicts Walter White, a man who after learning he has cancer, transforms
from a meek schoolteacher to a drug kingpin in an effort to leave money for his
family. Viewer response has been especially strong for this show, especially in
reference to Walter s wife, Skyler, who has many fan pages dedicated to hating her.
By using Annette Kuhn s feminist theory of film studies, this paper will attempt to
explain the mass hatred that surrounds Skyler. Kuhn s theory states that images
shown through mass media, especially those of film and television, do not have
meanings in and of themselves, but rather the meaning is circulated between
representation, spectator and social formation (Kuhn 43). Kuhn cites representation,
the meaning that the image is given in its creation, as the source of much strife for
women, as it often creates a vision of femininity that is... Show more content on

Since the show is centered on Walter and his transformation, it rarely evinces any
curiosity about Skyler s inner life, apart from how it affects Walt (Bowie). Since the
show does not allow Skyler to have a fully fleshed out character, it becomes
impossible for the audience to sympathize with her. Furthermore, although Breaking
Bad explores deep moral dilemmas within its characters, demanding the audience to
question where the line of right and wrong is drawn, this kind of agency is only
given to the male characters (Bowie). Thus, due to this representation, the audience
judges Skyler by a different moral standard than they judge Walter (Gunn). However,
Skyler still remains a much more complex character than is regularly seen on
television, since usually representations of strong women are one dimensional,
unrealistic clichГ©s (Truitt), and so she is thus a positive representation of a
The Role of Firearms Throughout History Essay
Have you ever wondered how guns came to be? Most people have little or no idea.
The history is more complex than people assume it to be; there is no one person
credited with inventing the firearm. One nation in particular has played a major role
in the incredible discovery that would change the way people hunt, protect
themselves, and engage in warfare. This nation is China, and the history of the firearm
can be traced to the second century. But before we dive into the history of firearm,
one must understand what a firearm is. According to Merriam Webster, a firearm is a
weapon from which a shot is discharged by gunpowder usually used of small arms.

A fire lance was a combination of a spear and tube capable of firing projectiles at a
maximum distance of a few feet. Because hand to hand combat was the most
popular means of combat at the time, this gave wielders a significant advantage to
enemies just holding swords or knives. Designed only as a weapon, the fire lance
would be loaded with poison tipped projectiles and after fired could be used as a
spear.
But as with any notable invention, its creators worried that others may discover how
it was produced and begin making their own version of the identical device. In the
eleventh century the ruling Dynasty of China, Song, were concerned about enemies
learning the secrets behind gunpowder technology. In 1247 the Chinese used
gunpowder for the first time in combat, most likely a cannon like weapon in the Siege
of Seville to overcome their Muslim foes (http://www.themcs.org/weaponry/cannon

cannons, in 1346(http://books.google.com/books?id=ANTSvKj1AZEC pg=PA541

Animal Overpopulation Research Paper
Animal abandonment Have you ever seen an animal wandering the streets with no
collar, no home? This is because of animal abandonment. Animal abandonment is a
problem facing the world. Animals are becoming homeless and there are many
causes as well as solutions. One of the causes is pet overpopulation. Some of the
solutions may be shelters if they are at the right kind of one and rescuing and
adopting. There are many causes to animal abandonment and pet overpopulation is
one of them. Pet overpopulation is a problem causing more stray and abandoned pets

In addition to fostering, rescuing and adopting animals from shelters minimizes
animal overpopulation and abandonment. Puppy mills are places that breed dogs
and then sells them, however these places are considered harmful and inhumane to
the dogs they are breeding. Many shelters rescue animals from situations like
puppy mills, abuse and abandonment and put them up for adoption. Shelters
however provide opportunities and gives a second chance to these animals.
Therefore shelters have adoption events to help find these abandonment pets a
good, new home. As result as well as reducing pet abandonment, getting a rescue
from a shelter could also save a life if they are at a kill shelter. In conclusion it s
important to know the causes of animal abandonment but it s also important to know
possible solutions and how to help the abandoned animals. Animals are being
abandoned for causes like overpopulation. There are different solutions to this
worldwide problem, like non kill shelters and fostering and also adopting. We need
to help the animals find a second chance at a new home. Are you up for the

I spent most of my childhood in front of a two way mirror tied down with
microphones and bombarded with tedious questions. As I grew, the silliness of an
adult asking me to repeat words soon was outgrown as the harsh reality of being
judged and observed was exposed. A lot a children attend speech therapy at a young
age to get rid of their babyish slurs but for some, we continue the gruesome process
of being assigned to a therapist, trying, failing, and being pasted to the next until you

My effort to be the best, especially in school, started in middle school when the
teachers would separate the grade based on intelligence. I always wanted to be in
the highest difficulty class because in my eyes, that meant that I was able to show
people that just because I may sound different, doesn t mean I can t be as smart. I
made sure I was placed in the accelerated classes even if it was a subject I m not as
strong in. I worked my butt off in most cases so people couldn t tell that I might be
struggling on a certain topic. This persistence of trying to be the best and faking it
till I made it taught me that working hard and striving towards a goal can lead to
major accomplishments. However, as I ve learned only recently, always taking all
the APs and honors classes available without taking into consideration one s
strengths or weaknesses will only lead to great amounts of stress and a sense of
failure when you don t meet your expectations. I ve come to realize that taking a
regents level class or a less challenging elective doesn t make one anyone dumber
than someone who takes all APs. Accelerating in all different parts of school has
allowed me to challenge myself, prove to myself that I m capable in succeeding,
and allowing myself to be seen as normal in the eyes of my classmates. My speech

Compelling points in Danny Lopez s life
He moved from one channel to the next looking not for the best show but for the
best expression on his dad s face. This is one of the many appealing quotes that
Matt de la Pena came up with. Matt de la Pena s choice of words is very intuitive
and draws the reader into the book and also the characters. A significant moment in
Danny Lopez s life is that he left his hometown to find his dad somewhere in Mexico.
First, a significant moment in Danny Lopez s life is when he left his hometown in
San Diego and moved to Mexico to find his dad that left him when he was five years
old.

The last significant moment in Danny Lopez s life is when he tries to send his dad a
bunch of letters to find out where he is.
First, Danny illustrated his true feelings when he sends his dad a letter.
For example, Danny s love is shown when he says, you lowered your hand and
continued walking. I followed (28).
This is significant because this shows how much love Danny has for his dad. Even
though Danny s mom and dad divorced when Danny was five it still shows how
much Danny wants to reconnect with his dad, but, did not go the way he wanted it to
go.
Secondly, also another significant moment in Danny s life is when he finds out what
happen to his dad.
For example, this is shown when he says, Nobody paid him any attention anyway
because he was Mexican [in Mexico] I don t understand (227).
This is a symbolic moment in this book because since the start Danny had been
trying to find out what happen to his dad and was shock about what happen. During
the time Danny was trying to find his dad it turned out that he actually went to jail for
beating up another
History of Tattoos Essay

The History of Tattoos
Axia College University of Phoenix
Tattoos have been around throughout our history, from Egyptian times to the
present day. Many people may say they know the history of tattoos, and where they
originate from, but do they really? Does one know that there were reasons that
some people had tattoos? There may be people who know the actual history of
tattoos and body art and why one would decide to get one; however there are people
who do not. To be able to understand the idea of tattoos, one should educate
themselves to the history of tattoos. Although tattoos have been considered taboo and
a stereotype, history reveals that this particular form of body art has been used for
self expression, status and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This history goes back to as early as the XI Dynasty. In 1891, Amunet, a Priestess
of the Goddess Hathor, at Thebes, was discovered. According to Taylor (1998),
Amunet is believed to be alive sometime between 2160 BC and 1994 BC. Amunet
displays several lines and dots all over her body. The dots and dashes that were
found were found in a grouping pattern. This form of tattoo is believed to only belong
to women, and usually the women were associated with ritualistic practice. The
Egyptians had spread the practice of tattooing throughout the word. By the year
2000 BC, the art of tattooing had stretched out all the way to Southeast Asia
(Taylor, 1998). Although there is history that proves tattoos were used for many
reasons, some people still fell into groups that are considered stereotypes. The
stereotypes of people with tattoos were considered to be criminals, drug addicts, or
habitual underachievers. There is somewhat of a statistical truth to that slander.
Sadly when it came to people who had chosen to show their tattoos in public, the
stereotype is all too real. That is no surprise though; people with tattoos are treated
poorly by the majority. Traditionally, tattoo clientele was considered to be that of
bikers, bad boy personalities, and truckers; however all that seems to be changing.
There is still the tough guy image to contend with. However, it is mostly just with the
older population. Chris Weskamp told the Denver Business Journal

Essay about Use of Satire in Voltaire s Candide
Successful Use of Satire in Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire s Candide is the story of how one man s adventures affect his philosophy on
life. Candide begins his journey full of optimism that he lives in the best of all
possible worlds, but he learns that it is naГЇve to say that good will eventually come
of any evil.
Voltaire successfully uses satire as a means of conveying his opinions about many
aspects of European society in the eighteenth century. He criticizes religion, the evils
found in every level of society, and a philosophy of optimism when faced with an
intolerable world.
Candide portrays religious persecution as one of the most worst aspects of society.

Christianity teaches that we are all God s children, but the Negro is a slave to a
cruel master that has cut off his arm and leg. The old woman tells Candide a story
of a supposed holy man that convinces the Janizaries not to kill the women for food,
but only to slice off one of their buttocks to eat. This pious and compassionate
Moslem priest convinced them that heaven will be pleased by such a charitable
action (Voltaire 48).
Voltaire attacks the corruption within the church and its officials as well. The
Grand Inquisitor, a significant clergyman, makes Cunegonde his mistress at a
Mass service. Even more ironic is that he shares her with a Jew. It was a Franciscan
priest that robbed Lady Cunegonde of her money and jewels. The old woman
identifies herself as the bastard daughter of a pope, and the papacy is also identified
as keeping soldiers for private use. When Candide is ill in France, a clergyman is one
of the many that harasses him in attempt on his wealth. Ironically, the disease that
Pangloss catches from Paquette, originated from a Franciscan priest. Voltaire portrays
the church as violent and corrupt and the clergy as parsimonious fortune hunters.
Candide also discovers evils in every level of society. Voltaire criticizes the inordinate

This reaction is observed to be an SN1 reaction which was later verified by the
silver nitrate test. The percent yield obtained for mass was 28.9%. The reason the
percent yield was low could be due to the loss of product. This could have happened
in several ways including the loss of the organic phase during extraction where too
much of the organic phase could have been extracted resulting in less of the product
being formed. The lower percent yieldmay also be due to the reaction not going to
completion, resulting in fewer product formed. Additionally, impurities in the
product also yield less of the product. Incorrect measurements of the graduated
cylinder may have also led to a decreased yield. The weight of the graduated
cylinder may have no been accurate if excess water was present leading to added

When an aqueous solution is added to a salt, NaCl, it causes it to be insoluble in
water and therefore be recovered later on by having it crystalized. This is referred
to as salting out, meaning that the polar organic compounds, which are soluble in

of the aqueous extraction via the drying agent and in removing excess water from
the organic solvent. Moreover, the drying agent used in this experiment was the
Na2SO4. The drying agent allows for removal of water; however, if too much drying
agent is used, it could lead to lose of the organic solvent by absorption. This may lead

Contradiction In The Wife Of Bath, By Hafez And The...
In the poems by Hafez and The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer, religion and religious
institutions are critiqued for the contradictions they pose to the people that they
influence. Often, what a religion preaches runs opposite to how those that practice
the religion tend to behave. This opposition to dogma is often not malicious and
derives from temptations being irresistible to the average human being. However,
sometimes the contradictions inside a religion and its institutions are harmful or so
puzzling that they deserve to be called out and examined for their absurdity. In the
poems by Hafez, this contradiction is the supposedly holy priests being drunkards
while still preaching against debauchery; in The Canterbury Tales, the Christian
insistence of virginity in women is critiqued for its impossibility, the Wife of Bath is
used to show the bias Christianityhas against women in regards to marriage, and the
greediness of the church is exposed. These authors show that religion is an invention
of humankind that falls prey to logical fallacies and vices just like its creators.
The poems by Hafez reveal the contradiction of priests speaking out against alcohol
while simultaneously indulging in its pleasures. Alcohol can be anything from the
blood of a savior to a shunned beverage only consumed by devils in religion. For
Hafez, a Muslim, the priests or mullahs of his day and age preach lengthy sermons
in condemnation of wine and drinking. Hafez shows in the text that these same
holy men partake in alcohol just as much as they crusade against it. Hafez provides
evidence for this by saying, Brother believers, whatever shall we do? The priest left
the mosque for the tavern yesterday! How can the believers turn to Mecca to pray?
When our Mullah turns to the tavern instead?! (Hafez 11). Hafez hyperbolically
states that he will no longer be able to turn to Mecca to pray due to the falsehoods of

To What Extent Has Modern Liberalism Departed from...
There are huge differences between classical and modern liberalism and as a result
classical liberals believe that modern liberals have not stayed true to initial ideas
posed by the likes of John Locke given that modern liberals have embraced
collectivism while classical liberals favoured pure individualism. But they are
fundamentally both forms of liberalismso are united in their belief of freedom and
rights of the individual but they have slightly different views on the type of freedom
they support.
Classical liberalism has a belief in utilitarianism first posed by Jeremy Bentham, this
is where individuals make tiny calculations about whether their actions will maximise
pleasure or minimise pain . This is an egotistical form of ... Show more content on

T.H. Green argued that freedom is the ability of the individual to develop
individuality and this is a positive thing. This is thus done through self fufillment
and pushing one s own knowledge. Positive freedom places emphasis on the
individual flourishing rather than survival of the fittest so therefore the state
should offer equal opportunities to all. This has seen modern liberals support the
welfare state whereas classical liberals focused on standing on your own feet. But,
this is not totally different to core liberal beliefs. The state only intervenes to ensure
equality such as education and health. Modern liberals defend the welfare state on
the basis of equality of opportunity. The welfare state has attempted to address
issues such as idleness and want and squalor , named by the Beveridge Report by
William Beveridge. Overall, Modern liberals believe in providing an equal playing
field to help the individual flourish in society rather than the individual just battling
for themselves.
This belief in some state intervention and positive freedom has lead liberals of
modern times to a belief in welfare and economic management. Modern liberals
support economic management, proposed first by John Maynard Keynes, who
argued that governments could manage their economies in order to thrive. They
believe in a mixed economy where you sometimes must tax and spend and yet other

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( Ocd )
Pooh demonstrates two different disorders: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This poor little
brown bear embodies the concept of comorbidity (Shea, 2000). It is also thought
that Pooh may exhibit certain traits of impulsivity. This can be demonstrated by
his relentless attempts to obtain honey. Most notably, his poorly thought out
attempt to get honey from a bee tree by disguising himself as a raincloud (Milne,
1926; Milne 1928; Reitherman, 1977). While this could be thought of as
impulsivity, it would also be viewed as his cognitive impairment, in combination
with his obsessive fixation with honey. Pooh s fixation on food and his repetitive
counting behaviors raise the diagnostic possibility of OCD (Shea, 2000). OCD is
defined by the DSM IV3 in two separate parts: 1. Obsession Recurrent and persistent
thoughts, urges, or impulses that are experienced, at some time during the
disturbance, as intrusive and unwanted, and that in most individuals cause marked
anxiety or distress (4th ed.; DSM 4). 2. Compulsion Repetitive behaviors... that the
individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules
that must be applied rigidly (4th ed.; DSM 4). They also state that these two can be
time consuming, taking up more than one hour of their day. Or that it can cause
clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning areas of their daily lives
(4th ed.; DSM 4). This is evident
George S. Patton s Accomplishments
George S. Patton
George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military
leaders in the history of the United States. His military career spanned from the
expedition into Mexico throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his
profane filled speeches and his position of always leading from the front gained him
vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders considered him too controversial and
intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his determination and
success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of America s
war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history.
At a young age George S. Patton knew he wanted to be in the military. His ancestors
had served in the American Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War.
(Randall and Nahr iii) This is largely the reason behind his intense determination
and drive. Fueled off their tales of bravery and heroic endeavors, he never had a
doubt that he was going to live the life of a military hero. Despite a learning
disability, many believe he had dyslexia, he would go onto to attend the Virginia
Military Institute and ultimately graduate from West Point. Upon his graduation he
achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The
years after his graduation were eventful for George Patton. He participated in the
1912 Olympics in a variety of sports. He trained in fencing in France and was

With a variety of gaming consoles available today, all produced by well known and
high profile corporations, it can be difficult to know which one is the best to invest
your hard earned money in. The choice can become even more overwhelming as
technology marches on relentlessly and consoles seem to change as quickly as you
can turn around, so if you are having some trouble making a choice, here are some
thoughts that might just help you out.
The average lifespan, it is estimated, of a games console is about five years. That is
not to say that your still working gaming equipment will suddenly and inexplicably
combust after a five year period, rather that at about that time, manufacturers
typically introduce a more technologically advanced version of their former console.
If being at the cutting edge of technology is important to you, then purchasing a
console at the start of this standard five year period is a wise move. ... Show more

Choosing A Dating Service Is Choice Essay
The problem with choosing a dating service is choice too much of it! There are
hundreds of services. To choose a dating service that s right for you, you need to be
clear about what exactly you re looking for. As a newcomer to online dating,
unfamiliar with all the options, you might be a little hazy on this front. Here s a
rundown of the main areas in which dating services differ which will help you
draw up a dating service wish list to compare sites to. Relationship options One of
the most obvious things to think about when choosing a dating service is what
kind of relationship(s) you re looking for. Some services, including top dating sites
like Yahoo! Personals (singles dating) and eHarmony (soulmates) focus on one
type of relationship only. The advantage of choosing a dating service that s
dedicated to a particular type of relationship is that everyone will be on exactly the
same page as you are in terms of intentions. If you re not clear what your intentions
are, you might be better choosing a dating service where members can pursue
different types of relationships within the same site. Again there s no shortage of
choice. However, at some multi relationship services it s not immediately clear who
s looking for what and up to you to figure it out, using the search tools. If this
sounds like trouble (and it can be), choose a service like Lavalife which has separate
communities within the site for each type of relationship. Members Think about the

Essay about Swannanoa Palace
Swannanoa Palace is a beautiful mansion that rests atop Afton Mountain in Nelson
County Virginia. It was built over an eight year time period by James Dooley as a
token of love for his wife, Sallie Dooley. The name was given to their home in
honor of Sallie s love for swans and how they choose one mate for life. Construction
of this palace was completed in 1912 with the effort of 300 artisans and two
contractors. The couple also had another home in Richmond, Virginia. This home was
formally known as Maymont . The name was derived from Sallie s maiden name
May, and the french word for hill Mont. This home was extraordinary for it s time. It
was a 12,000 square foot home that was divided into 33 rooms. The Dooley s were

It also consisted of a library, this was exceptional in it s own, not to mention the the
Latin quotations in the woodwork. The walls in the Louis XV style ballroom were
covered with golden fabric, it also contains a mantle with angels carved into it s
marble surface. Swannanoa was made up of 52 rooms, including the ones
mentioned above. The exterior of this palace was just as incredible as the inside.
In Rome, there is a building called the Villa Medici, from this, the contractors and
artisans created the appearance of Swannanoa. The Dooley s built their palace on
126 acres of land just above the Rockfish Gap. This home is truly astonishing,
inside and out. The history of Swannanoa is just as engaging as the palace itself.
The history of it being built is something very significant in it s history. The
construction of this palace in 1912 was marked at $2 million dollars. However,
building a house of those means today would be priced at over $20 million dollars.
Swannanoa was built over a time period of eight years. Two contractors were hired
from Waynesboro, Va Mr. Ellis and Virgil Moyer. This palace has had many
purposes throughout it s 97 years of existence. It was originally built by James
Dooley as a Summer home and a token of love for his wife. After James and Sallie
passed away, Swannanoa was sold and turned into Swannanoa Country Club, which
was abandoned when the stock market crashed. In 1948, Walter and
Dress Code Essay
Let s be honest, there is a common problem throughout many high schools. What is
it you say? The answer is dress codes. A set of rules specifying the garb or type of
clothing to be worn by a group or by people under specific circumstances

and sexualize their bodies. Social media post and news broadcast are storming the
nation as more and more situations with girls being called out for breaking the dress

1044). The author points out that women s body are objectified and with dress
codes it enhances the spotlight on parts of the females that would typically not be
considered sexual shoulders. It has been said over and over again that the way
these girls are dressing is a cause for a distraction for the male students (Zhou,
2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students to continue this behavior for
their future, making judgements on females based on what they are wearing. This
is where rape culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture,
as women are pushed to feel ashamed of their body and what they show, as
innocence as it may seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up Teen advisor, says rape culture, a
building block of the patriarchy, says that men have the license to do almost anything
they want, that women are temptresses, and that if a woman is a victim to a man s
assault/harassment/rape, it is her fault (2016, para. 16). Putting dress codes into play
allow to continue the belief that women and girls are sexual objects and should be
defined by that. Putting less stress on what a woman is wearing will allow stronger,
happier women.

Today, in this complex business environment where all business enterprises are

Law lists fair operations of a business in a democratic society and hence, the
economic missions of corporations must land within the framework of law. Legal
responsibilities are codified ethics established by lawmakers that legitimizes the
conduct of a business, when adhered to. Furthermore, Carroll lists down few
components that suffices the legal responsibilities of a business organization;

regulations, to be a law abiding corporate citizen, fulfilling its legal obligations
leads to a firm to be successful and meeting minimal legal requirements when

the very creation of laws or regulations and in another way, such values may reflect a

Brock Osweiler Research Paper
Almost four years into his career, Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler now
has two starts and two wins on his resume . Osweiler was the Broncos second round
draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and is expected to be the future of the Broncos
organization.
Peyton Manning will miss significant time due to a partially torn plantar fascia near
his left heel. The formerly known understudy of Manning, Osweiler has thrown for
250 and 270 yards in his two wins. The most impressive win though, came on Sunday

On second and goal, Patriots safety Patrick Chung was flagged for holding
Demaryius Thomas on a play where Osweiler was sacked for a huge loss. If that
flag wasn t thrown, the Broncos were looking at 3rd and goal from the 19 yard line.
Just like that the game could have been over. Instead, due to the penalty it was first

Also, the inconsistent play of Broncos running back C.J. Anderson finally came to an
end. This season was expected to be a breakout year for him, and he hasn t met those
expectations thus far. Finally, he had the breakout game against the Patriots finishing
with 113 yards, and 2 touchdown performance. Anderson was the one who sealed the
game in overtime with a 49 yard touchdown run. One could argue that it was the
running game that defeated the Patriots, not Osweiler.
Taking nothing from him, he at the very least doesn t turn the ball over. Only one
interception is his two starts. One of the biggest concerns many people have noticed
with him is at times he holds on to the ball a little longer than necessary in the pocket
which causes him to get sacked more than he should. Although, he improved that
much more in the game against New England than he did against the Chicago Bears

Contributions Of The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a time era that began in the 1920s and it marked a
period where a cultural, social, and artistic explosion took place in Harlem. This
happened between the end of World War 1 and during the middle of the 1930s.
Harlem was a place where most African Americans wanted to be, many of them
actually migrated there which was known as The Great Migration. With all the
fascinating things that we benefited from the Harlem Renaissancerepresented a rebirth
of culture. The Jazz and Blues evolved in this era and were very popular, some of the
most famous Jazz and Blues musicians were Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Henry
Webb, and Louis Armstrong, along with many other African American
singers and
composers who became extremely famous during this time. A very well known club
was the, Cotton Club this was where Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong drew huge
crowds of both white Americans and African Americans, this club was where they all
caught what was known as Jazz fever. Our nation was blessed with this amazing
music of Jazz and Blues, which has been around since and many still love this music
today. Many African Americans made huge impacts throughout the time but there
was a woman Novelist, Anthropologist, and short story writer whose work stood out
distinguishing herself from all the other writers. She is known as Zora Neale Hurston,
she was born on January 7, 1891, in Nostalgia, Alabama but moved to Eatonville,
Florida as a toddler. Her family moved to Florida where her father was elected
Mayor of the town during 1897 1902. Her father was the Mayor as well as a baptist
preacher and her mother was a school teacher. In 1904 her family suffered the
tragedy of her mother s death, years later her father remarried and Hurston along
with her siblings, had a step mom. In order to support herself and finance her
efforts to get an education she had to work a variety of jobs, one of which includes
being a maid for an actress while she was on tour. She earned an associate degree at
Howard University and later moved herself to the city of Harlem in New York City
where she joined the uprising art scenery. Nonetheless, Hurston quickly began

Inequality In Virginia Woolf
We are all created equal, but we are not treated as equals. We like to believe that
everyone is equal, but society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when
created, equal. Virginia Woolf writes of society s inequality through describing two
meals from two different colleges. What mattered was neither where the college was
nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other for
women. Woolf was was served one mealfrom the colleges and there were some
striking differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and
emotional appeal help support her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared
to men. In reading both passages, there is a clear difference in her vocabulary for
describing the meals. Here, however, I shall take the liberty to defy that convention
and to tell you that the lunchon this occasion began with soles, sunk in deep dish,
over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest cream, save
that it was branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a
doe (Woolf, Passage1, Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup.
There was nothing to stir the fancy in that (Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not
only was there a change in vocabulary, but there was also a change in the length of
her sentences. Woolf s experience in the men s college was given a lot of detail
compared to her experience in the women s college. We can infer, from her
vocabulary, that the

Superhero Compare and Contrast Why are Deadpool and Deathstroke so similar?
Marvel and DC have both discretely plagiarized character ideas for decades. It
seems a writer can not create an original idea for a superhero without copying a trait

Mouth Rot is similar in appearance and ability to Cyborg from the original Teen

Essay on College Costs
College Costs
Introduction
It s no secret that financing a college education is getting tougher. College costs
have skyrocketed over the past decade or so, and there s no relief in sight. Average
tuition at four year colleges will increase 7 percent this school year, double the rate of
inflation. Student aid is not increasing fast enough to plug the growing gap between
tuition and family finances. In addition, there is a growing number of older students
entering college today. These students have families that they need to support. I
know, because I am a family man who has returned to school. I wish to finish my
degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The only problems I face are

These costs are partially or fully covered by an employer. In the event they are not let
us include them in the poverty scenario, which basically means the family must pay
the costs.
The total amount of funds needed are $17700 the first year. If you increase that
number by 4.8% each year thereafter you can come up with the projected amount
for each school year. The $17700 figure remains the obstacle to overcome. This cost
has to be covered by Financial Aid. If this cost cannot be covered by the available
system, the student will not be able to pursue a standard four year degree at RIT.
Family s Will Strain
It s going to be tougher to pay for college in 1996, and that s going to widen the gap
in enrollment between rich and poor students that the nation has struggled three
decades to close. Average tuition at four year colleges will increase 6 percent this
school year, double the rate of inflation.
But family income isn t keeping pace; after adjusting for inflation, the average family
has gained hardly any ground in the 1990s, says the Department of Labor. As a result,
says the Department of Education, sending a student to a private college in 1996
without any grants or loans will require more than a third of a typical family s
income and nearly two thirds of the income of a working poor family.
The Government
Student aid is not increasing fast enough to plug the growing gap between tuition and
family finances. The federal government supplies 75
Mt Adams Is The Second Largest Volcano
Introduction Simultaneously, Mt Adams is the second highest mountain and the
most under looked volcano in Washington State. In terms of volume, Mt. Adams is
the second largest volcano (behind Mt. Shasta) in the Cascade Range (Alt
Hyndman 1984). Since it has been relatively quiet for the past couple millennia, it
does not receive as much attention as it s counterparts and draws very few tourists
due to it s remote setting (Hill 2004). Prior to recent research, not much was known
regarding Mt. Adam s eruptive history, frequency or how explosive previous
eruptions have been. (Hildreth Lanphere 1994). In this paper, I will discuss the
geography, history, geology, and hazards of Mt. Adams and it s surrounding area;

The fresh breeze when one walks into any restaurant is what leads anyone into that

knowing that what is yet to come is going to be exquisite for that singular moment.
Restaurants like Jack In The Box and Olive Garden are able to give anyone this kind
of satisfaction. A meal for one, or for many, represents not only food, but also the
time that one enjoys as their time to rest. When comparing and contrasting these
restaurants, it is indisputable that Olive Garden is far more preferable than Jack In

quality taste than have inferior food from a fast food restaurant such as Jack In The

Anywhere anyone goes, there are rules and expectations that should be followed out
of respect for themselves and those around them. The two relate in rules because for
both restaurants, one has to keep in mind their manners and time. For example, you
should not take 5 minutes ordering a meal, you should already have your order

implied that the human body turned into the subject of study surprisingly. In old
Greece, a long scholarly development had come to its intelligent decision amid the
traditional period when man as a living life form on this planet procured the
significance it merited and divine beings got to be human through marble and bronze
. With the ascent of vote based system and rationality it changed the substance of
craftsmanship truly. From the Traditional period all the Greek statues from this time

demonstrate a sensational outward appearance. This was on account of the Greeks

Professor Jodie Brown February 18, 2012 Online College versus Traditional
College Frustrated with current career options, considering a major career change
or simply having a zest for learning sparks many adults to earn their Bachelor s
degree. Years ago, the only way to earn a degree was within the confines of a brick
and mortar classroom. Today, one can earn a degree from an institution 3000 miles
away, from the comfort of one s own home! While classroom learning is always an
option, many are finding it much easier to maintain their family, their career and
pursue a college career at the same time by pursuing a degree via online learning.
Learning via traditional classroom or online is a financial, strategic and personal
decision for each student. This paper will compare and contrast these two options as
well as provide a discussion on the merits and drawbacks of both. I contend that for
many adults, online learning is the practical way to earn a degree while still
maintaining their current lifestyle. Without the option of online learning, many
adults would find it logistically challenging to return to school, stalling their
opportunity to earn a degree. Contrary to what some may believe, online learning
doesn t equate to less work nor are the standards any lower than what one would
expect from a traditional classroom environment. Online learning simply refers to the

Morality of War and Peace
Exam #1
For Aquinas, there are three conditions for Just War. The first is that the war must
be declared by authority of a head of state or a proper authority. The requirement for
a war to be declared comes from the Roman law. There is no specific time limit
between hostile activities and the declaration, but the act of declaring war does invite
the second party to the pending hostilities for the opportunity to offer redress in
lieu of war. An aggrieving nation must have refused to render the satisfaction to
proceed with a just war. War is not a last resort, but the cause of war cannot be
considered just unless the aggrieved party has first tendered the opportunity for a
peaceful settlement and been refused. War becomes a means of sanction for some
injury received in those cases where there is no alternative means seeking redress.
The second of Aquinas conditions for a just war is for a proportionally good reason
or just cause. If one can seek redress from some higher authority, then one is not
justified in resorting to violence. Aquinas states that the natural order conducive to
peace among mortals demands that the power to declare and counsel war should be
in the hands of those who hold the supreme authority. States have no common weal
against internal disturbances, meaning that it is their business to have recourses to
the sword of war in defending the common weal against external enemies. Lastly,
White Tiger
The story White Tiger by Aravind Adiga follows the protagonist Balram in his
gradual journey of being powerless to being a powerful and wealthy entrepreneur
in India through a letter that he writes to the Premier of China. The struggle to
wealth is especially challenging in India and is constantly compared to the
metaphor of the Rooster Coop. The metaphor of the Rooster Coop compares
rooster in a cage to servants to their masters. Roosters are stucked in a cage and
faces grave consequence if they dare to escape similarly to servants as the can not
leave their masters and if they dare to challenge their masters and leave they will
also face grave consequences. The Rooster Coop of India perpetuates the division
of the rich and the poor. Most lower class people do not dare to challenge the way
that India is structured except for Balram. Balram s ability to... Show more content on

Balram kills Mr. Ashok by jamming a broken alcohol bottle into his scalp and
piercing his neck. Killing Mr. Ashok enabled Balram to be free and becomes the rare

is free thinking instead of being a mindless chicken that is controlled by the system

Eassy On Roundworm Essay
Toxocariasis is commonly known as the Roundworm Infection. With this species
there are four different approaches of acquiring infection. Possible ways of infection
include direct transmission (straight eating the eggs within stool), prenatal
transmission (contamination while in utero), paratenic transmission (the
transmission can occur with a and transmammary transmission (can be spread
through the mammary glands like breastfeeding and placenta). Egg are left in the
feces of dogs, from there they can be spread between 2 4 weeks. When dogs eat
infectious eggs it allows the eggs to hatch and the larval form of the parasite to
penetrate through the gut wall. In younger dogs, the larvae can travel via
bloodstream by piercing a bloodvessel in the gut wall. Once ingested, the eggs hatch,
and the larvae enter the wall of the small intestine. Once larvae become mobile they
can migrate through the host via circulatory system into the respiratory system into
other organs and tissues within the body. When they enter the body they can become

The larvae will simply undergo a dormant stage within an intermediate host until
they are in a dog again. The development of the larva into worm is restricted to the
gastrointestinal tract of a dog. If the parasite finds itself inside a human through
ingestion of the infective eggs, it does not exactly have a sense of direction. That s
right if a person eats egg infested poop, once the eggs hatch the larva or worms will
meander wherever they feel like going. That means if they want to take a trip
through the bloodstream and capillaries, lungs, or if they want to harbor in the brain,
liver or eye they can. The most common infestation in the human body leaves mild
symptoms, but once in the eye the effects can be local inflammation partial blindness
or complete blindness. Nerve endings can become damaged if tampered

The End Of The Civil War
After the civil war, tension arose between the North and the South. Northerners
made the decision to reconstruct the south. While the south rejected their efforts
and resisted change, the north was angered by their hostile response. The
northerners coming in were called derogatory terms, such as carpetbaggers and
were seen as exploiting the south. Many changes were being made including the
Federal Government protecting each individual citizen s freedom, reinterpreting
the constitution, and a transformation of slave workers into legal citizens. The 13th
amendment being passed in 1864 abolishing slavery was Lincoln s final solution.
Next was a movement of reintegrating the north and the south, while also including
former slaves into the picture and it proved to be a lot for people to accept. Even
though there was revolutionary change happening, things still weren t progressing
in all areas. The black codes that were put in place in 1865 to restrict the freed black
slave s rights were just one of many examples of how racism was not going
anywhere even after the civil war. While the conflict between raceand class existed
very much simultaneously, I believe that in order to fully understand American
history since the civil war it is important to focus on racial tension.
One of the biggest contributing factors of racism was the divide between the north
and the south. This had a lot to do with the unfinished reconstruction that began in
1963. The south opposed any interaction
High School Confidential
High school in real life is full of surprises, but according to David Denby in his
article High School Confidential, High School in the movies is very predictable.
The typical Hollywood High School Scene opens with the jock and the cheerleader
characters. Blonde and buff, the Jock and the Cheerleader are superficial and
proud to proclaim it. They are popular and perky, and always too good to be true.
The cheerleader is usually the enemy of the hero or heroine. She is generally rich,
blonde, and queen bee of the social circle, with no sense of selflessness. The jock is
usually the bully, muscular, good looking and not very smart.(Denby 343) In an
essence, the male counterpart of the cheerleader. The Jock and the Cheerleader are

Violet is a pretty, popular, soccer player with an equally popular soccer player
boyfriend. However, Violet s world comes crashing down when the women s
soccer team is cut from her high school due to lack of funds. Violet in turn decided
to impersonate her twin brother Sebastian at her rival school so that she can tryout
for the male soccer team and show her now ex boyfriend that girls can play just as
well as boys. At her new high school she falls in love with her brother s roommate.
The problem is, he thinks she s a boy. Violet is not your typical movie heroine, in
the beginning of the movie she seemingly has everything a girl could want,
however her passion for soccer drives her to step outside the norm and prove
herself. Although the main character in this movie contradicts Denby s view of
teen movies, there are many other characters in the movie who fall directly in line
with Denby s theory. For example, Sebastian s girlfriend Monique is a typical
cheerleader type character. She has no regard for anyone s life but her own. Also,
Violet s divorced parents are completely unaware that their son Sebastian is in
London playing with a band, and their daughter Violet is impersonating him in
order to play soccer. In retrospect, Denby s views hold up in analysis. Occasionally
there is a movie or a character that steps outside Denby s stereotype, however most
teen movies are similar.

Microsoft is the leading and the largest Software Company in the world. Found by
William Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 Microsoft has grown and become a
multibillion company in only ten years. It all started with a great vision a computer
on every desk and every home that seemed almost impossible at the time. Now
Microsoft has over 44,000 employees in 60 countries, net income of $3.45 billion and
revenue of 11.36 billion. Company dramatic growth and success was driven by
development and marketing of operational systems and personal productivity
applications software.

Creating the Microsoft Skills 2000 program was a great idea for recruitment. At the
end the company is not only having the brightest and the most talented workers, but
is also making profit from training and developing their future employees.
Delivering Microsoft mission requires great people who are bright, creative, and
energetic, and who share the following values:
Integrity and honesty.
Passion for customers, partners, and technology.
Open and respectful with others and dedicated to making them feel better.
Willingness to take on big challenges and see them through.
Self critical, questioning, and committed to personal excellence and self improvement.
Accountable for commitments, results, and quality to customers, shareholders,
partners, and employees.
Microsoft is using two types of training for its employees:
On the Job training where new employees learn from more experienced coworkers.
This type of training is based mostly on practice at the workplace.
Off the Job training where employees refresh their knowledge and learn something
more in order to keep their performance in high quality. Mostly this type of training
is performed in classrooms and it is more theory than practice.
The first method is more Microsoft alike, even though the company requires that all
employees must take refreshment classes. Feedback from training is very important
for the company performance. Once trained the company is
Edith Wharton s Roman Fever
The majority of people in society today believe in free will and that they can choose
what happens in their own life. Others acknowledge an unknown force that shapes
their lives, which they have no control over. This conflict can be explained by the
Determinism theory. Determinism is a philosophy described as human beings having
no free willand therefore, cannot control their own actions and should not be held
accountable. This philosophy is seen in Edith Wharton s short storyRoman Fever by
her characters Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley as they argue about a letter and an affairin
the duration of the story. Wharton s main characters are on opposing sides of the
philosophy of determinism, with Mrs. Slade representing determinism and Mrs.
Ansley representing free will, respectively and each effectively showing Wharton s
disagreement to determinism.
In Roman Fever , Mrs. Slade represented determinism in the duration of the story
through her jealousy and similar emotions. Her thoughts and actions in the story
towards her lifelong friend has traces of jealousy and bewilderment throughout the
story. For example when reminiscing on the days of their youth in Rome, she
realized that, There was no one of whom she had less right to think unkindly than
of Grace Ansley. Would she never cure herself of envying her! (Wharton 6). Mrs.
Slade talks about how her life is boring and now that her husband has passed away,
her life is even more dreary. She envious of the type of daughter
Essay about Raymond Carver s Boxes
Raymond Carver s Boxes There are many types of relationships, though all are
complicated and both parties of the relationship must bend over backward for one
another. In Boxes, Carver shows how difficult it is for the son to cope with bringing
closure to his mother s relationship though he still loves her. The mother moves to be
near her son; however, she starts packing to move again a while later; not finding the
relationship she once had with her son. Through the short storyBoxes, Raymond

But she never received it. All along she was trying to hint to her son she wanted to
stay, but to no avail. She waits six months and the son does not make any
inferences or hints he wants her to stay. So she decides to pack up her belongings
and move back to where she started from. As Carver shows how difficult it is for the
mother to close that special mother son relationship they once had, and how long it
takes for her to finally move on.
Next, the mother infers that the closure of their relationship is due to the son not
wanting to spend any time with her. But instead he spends time with his girlfriend
Jill and leaves the phone off the hook. She even says, I don t know anywhere to go
here. There are people back in California. I ve got friends there who care what
happens to me. Nobody gives a damn here (414). Concluding her own son does not
care what happens to her. The son just hangs the phone up not knowing what to say
or how to respond to her. So the mother feels like she has lost the relationship with
her son because he does not spend as much time with her as when he was her little
boy. But she feels that he is always off with Jill or doing some other activity,
ignoring her, and that their relationship has completely deteriorated, not grown,
which is difficult for her to deal with. As a result, she decides
The Limits Of Human Communication
From the beginning of human s existence on earth, communication has been a crucial
aspect of human life. Communication allows humans to express their ideas or
feelings to others which gives humans the ability to connect to each other at an
interpersonal level. Technology is a product of human communication through
expression of ideas that has lead technology to be the rise of a new form of
communication. Technology is changing the way humans connect by moving
towards more virtual interactions between people rather than face to face. The essay
Limits of Friendship written by Maria Konnikova speaks on how technology takes
away from humanface to face connection, yet as technology continues to innovate
this essay will disprove her thesis. An essay Paumgarten wrote We Are a Camera
interrelates to disproving Konnikova s thesis by showing how POV camera s allow
us to connect our lives and express our idea s like never before. Myself growing up
as technology continues to innovate and change I too agree with Paumgarten s
writings seeing how technology has changed my own abilities to connect by
expanding the possibilities to interact with other humans. Technology has expanded
the way people connect by providing limitless and easy accessible content from
across the earth. Technology changed the way humans connect by transforming it
into a global platform which nullifies geographical barriers. Konnikova
acknowledges technologies global platform as a way to network effectively.

We see the different locations that Basho has gone to in order to learn more and to be part of the traditions. Analyzing Vince Gilligan s Breaking Bad Breaking Bad, created in 2008 by Vince Gilligan, is an incredibly popular television show that depicts Walter White, a man who after learning he has cancer, transforms from a meek schoolteacher to a drug kingpin in an effort to leave money for his family. Viewer response has been especially strong for this show, especially in reference to Walter s wife, Skyler, who has many fan pages dedicated to hating her. By using Annette Kuhn s feminist theory of film studies, this paper will attempt to explain the mass hatred that surrounds Skyler. Kuhn s theory states that images shown through mass media, especially those of film and television, do not have meanings in and of themselves, but rather the meaning is circulated between representation, spectator and social formation (Kuhn 43). Kuhn cites representation, the meaning that the image is given in its creation, as the source of much strife for women, as it often creates a vision of femininity that is... Since the show is centered on Walter and his transformation, it rarely evinces any curiosity about Skyler s inner life, apart from how it affects Walt (Bowie). Since the show does not allow Skyler to have a fully fleshed out character, it becomes impossible for the audience to sympathize with her. Furthermore, although Breaking Bad explores deep moral dilemmas within its characters, demanding the audience to question where the line of right and wrong is drawn, this kind of agency is only given to the male characters (Bowie). Thus, due to this representation, the audience judges Skyler by a different moral standard than they judge Walter (Gunn). However, Skyler still remains a much more complex character than is regularly seen on television, since usually representations of strong women are one dimensional, unrealistic clichГ©s (Truitt), and so she is thus a positive representation of a
  • 5. The Role of Firearms Throughout History Essay Have you ever wondered how guns came to be? Most people have little or no idea. The history is more complex than people assume it to be; there is no one person credited with inventing the firearm. One nation in particular has played a major role in the incredible discovery that would change the way people hunt, protect themselves, and engage in warfare. This nation is China, and the history of the firearm can be traced to the second century. But before we dive into the history of firearm, one must understand what a firearm is. According to Merriam Webster, a firearm is a weapon from which a shot is discharged by gunpowder usually used of small arms. (http://www.merriam webster.com/dictionary/firearm). Although many credible sources... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A fire lance was a combination of a spear and tube capable of firing projectiles at a maximum distance of a few feet. Because hand to hand combat was the most popular means of combat at the time, this gave wielders a significant advantage to enemies just holding swords or knives. Designed only as a weapon, the fire lance would be loaded with poison tipped projectiles and after fired could be used as a spear. But as with any notable invention, its creators worried that others may discover how it was produced and begin making their own version of the identical device. In the eleventh century the ruling Dynasty of China, Song, were concerned about enemies learning the secrets behind gunpowder technology. In 1247 the Chinese used gunpowder for the first time in combat, most likely a cannon like weapon in the Siege of Seville to overcome their Muslim foes (http://www.themcs.org/weaponry/cannon /cannon.htm) (4). According to Taylor (1998), Amunet is believed to be alive sometime between 2160 BC and 1994 BC. Amunet displays several lines and dots all over her body. The dots and dashes that were found were found in a grouping pattern. This form of tattoo is believed to only belong to women, and usually the women were associated with ritualistic practice. The Egyptians had spread the practice of tattooing throughout the word. By the year 2000 BC, the art of tattooing had stretched out all the way to Southeast Asia (Taylor, 1998). Although there is history that proves tattoos were used for many reasons, some people still fell into groups that are considered stereotypes. The stereotypes of people with tattoos were considered to be criminals, drug addicts, or habitual underachievers. There is somewhat of a statistical truth to that slander. Sadly when it came to people who had chosen to show their tattoos in public, the stereotype is all too real. That is no surprise though; people with tattoos are treated poorly by the majority. Traditionally, tattoo clientele was considered to be that of bikers, bad boy personalities, and truckers; however all that seems to be changing. There is still the tough guy image to contend with. Voltaire successfully uses satire as a means of conveying his opinions about many aspects of European society in the eighteenth century. Voltaire attacks the corruption within the church and its officials as well. The Grand Inquisitor, a significant clergyman, makes Cunegonde his mistress at a Mass service. The reason the percent yield was low could be due to the loss of product. The lower percent yieldmay also be due to the reaction not going to completion, resulting in fewer product formed. Additionally, impurities in the product also yield less of the product. • 18. Contradiction In The Wife Of Bath, By Hafez And The... In the poems by Hafez and The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer, religion and religious institutions are critiqued for the contradictions they pose to the people that they influence. Often, what a religion preaches runs opposite to how those that practice the religion tend to behave. This opposition to dogma is often not malicious and derives from temptations being irresistible to the average human being. However, sometimes the contradictions inside a religion and its institutions are harmful or so puzzling that they deserve to be called out and examined for their absurdity. In the poems by Hafez, this contradiction is the supposedly holy priests being drunkards while still preaching against debauchery; in The Canterbury Tales, the Christian insistence of virginity in women is critiqued for its impossibility, the Wife of Bath is used to show the bias Christianityhas against women in regards to marriage, and the greediness of the church is exposed. These authors show that religion is an invention of humankind that falls prey to logical fallacies and vices just like its creators. The poems by Hafez reveal the contradiction of priests speaking out against alcohol while simultaneously indulging in its pleasures. Alcohol can be anything from the blood of a savior to a shunned beverage only consumed by devils in religion. For Hafez, a Muslim, the priests or mullahs of his day and age preach lengthy sermons in condemnation of wine and drinking. Hafez shows in the text that these same holy men partake in alcohol just as much as they crusade against it. Hafez provides evidence for this by saying, Brother believers, whatever shall we do? The priest left the mosque for the tavern yesterday! How can the believers turn to Mecca to pray? When our Mullah turns to the tavern instead?! (Hafez 11). Hafez hyperbolically states that he will no longer be able to turn to Mecca to pray due to the falsehoods of the priest. There are huge differences between classical and modern liberalism and as a result classical liberals believe that modern liberals have not stayed true to initial ideas posed by the likes of John Locke given that modern liberals have embraced collectivism while classical liberals favoured pure individualism. But they are fundamentally both forms of liberalismso are united in their belief of freedom and rights of the individual but they have slightly different views on the type of freedom they support. Classical liberalism has a belief in utilitarianism first posed by Jeremy Bentham, this is where individuals make tiny calculations about whether their actions will maximise pleasure or minimise pain . This is an egotistical form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... T.H. Green argued that freedom is the ability of the individual to develop individuality and this is a positive thing. This is thus done through self fufillment and pushing one s own knowledge. Positive freedom places emphasis on the individual flourishing rather than survival of the fittest so therefore the state should offer equal opportunities to all. This has seen modern liberals support the welfare state whereas classical liberals focused on standing on your own feet. But, this is not totally different to core liberal beliefs. The state only intervenes to ensure equality such as education and health. Modern liberals defend the welfare state on the basis of equality of opportunity. The welfare state has attempted to address issues such as idleness and want and squalor , named by the Beveridge Report by William Beveridge. Overall, Modern liberals believe in providing an equal playing field to help the individual flourish in society rather than the individual just battling for themselves. This belief in some state intervention and positive freedom has lead liberals of modern times to a belief in welfare and economic management. Modern liberals support economic management, proposed first by John Maynard Keynes, who argued that governments could manage their economies in order to thrive. They believe in a mixed economy where you sometimes must tax and spend and yet other times you
  • 20. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( Ocd ) Pooh demonstrates two different disorders: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This poor little brown bear embodies the concept of comorbidity (Shea, 2000). It is also thought that Pooh may exhibit certain traits of impulsivity. This can be demonstrated by his relentless attempts to obtain honey. Most notably, his poorly thought out attempt to get honey from a bee tree by disguising himself as a raincloud (Milne, 1926; Milne 1928; Reitherman, 1977). While this could be thought of as impulsivity, it would also be viewed as his cognitive impairment, in combination with his obsessive fixation with honey. Pooh s fixation on food and his repetitive counting behaviors raise the diagnostic possibility of OCD (Shea, 2000). OCD is defined by the DSM IV3 in two separate parts: 1. Obsession Recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or impulses that are experienced, at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and unwanted, and that in most individuals cause marked anxiety or distress (4th ed.; DSM 4). 2. Compulsion Repetitive behaviors... that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly (4th ed.; DSM 4). They also state that these two can be time consuming, taking up more than one hour of their day. Or that it can cause clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning areas of their daily lives (4th ed.; DSM 4). This is evident

His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position of always leading from the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders considered him too controversial and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his determination and success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of America s war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history. At a young age George S. Patton knew he wanted to be in the military. His ancestors had served in the American Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. (Randall and Nahr iii) This is largely the reason behind his intense determination and drive. Fueled off their tales of bravery and heroic endeavors, he never had a doubt that he was going to live the life of a military hero. Despite a learning disability, many believe he had dyslexia, he would go onto to attend the Virginia Military Institute and ultimately graduate from West Point. Upon his graduation he achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The years after his graduation were eventful for George Patton. He participated in the 1912 Olympics in a variety of sports. He trained in fencing in France and was

  • 23. Choosing A Dating Service Is Choice Essay The problem with choosing a dating service is choice too much of it! There are hundreds of services. To choose a dating service that s right for you, you need to be clear about what exactly you re looking for. As a newcomer to online dating, unfamiliar with all the options, you might be a little hazy on this front. Here s a rundown of the main areas in which dating services differ which will help you draw up a dating service wish list to compare sites to. Relationship options One of the most obvious things to think about when choosing a dating service is what kind of relationship(s) you re looking for. Some services, including top dating sites like Yahoo! Personals (singles dating) and eHarmony (soulmates) focus on one type of relationship only. The advantage of choosing a dating service that s dedicated to a particular type of relationship is that everyone will be on exactly the same page as you are in terms of intentions. If you re not clear what your intentions are, you might be better choosing a dating service where members can pursue different types of relationships within the same site. Again there s no shortage of choice. However, at some multi relationship services it s not immediately clear who s looking for what and up to you to figure it out, using the search tools. If this sounds like trouble (and it can be), choose a service like Lavalife which has separate communities within the site for each type of relationship. Members Think about the

It has been said over and over again that the way these girls are dressing is a cause for a distraction for the male students (Zhou, 2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students to continue this behavior for their future, making judgements on females based on what they are wearing. This is where rape culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture, as women are pushed to feel ashamed of their body and what they show, as innocence as it may seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up Teen advisor, says rape culture, a building block of the patriarchy, says that men have the license to do almost anything they want, that women are temptresses, and that if a woman is a victim to a man s assault/harassment/rape, it is her fault (2016, para. 16). Contrary to what some may believe, online learning doesn t equate to less work nor are the standards any lower than what one would expect from a traditional classroom environment. Online learning simply refers to the way in which the content
  • 39. Morality Of War And Peace Kirsten Young ID#: 817086784 Phil 340 Morality of War and Peace Exam #1 For Aquinas, there are three conditions for Just War. The first is that the war must be declared by authority of a head of state or a proper authority. The requirement for a war to be declared comes from the Roman law. There is no specific time limit between hostile activities and the declaration, but the act of declaring war does invite the second party to the pending hostilities for the opportunity to offer redress in lieu of war. An aggrieving nation must have refused to render the satisfaction to proceed with a just war. War is not a last resort, but the cause of war cannot be considered just unless the aggrieved party has first tendered the opportunity for a peaceful settlement and been refused. War becomes a means of sanction for some injury received in those cases where there is no alternative means seeking redress. The second of Aquinas conditions for a just war is for a proportionally good reason or just cause. If one can seek redress from some higher authority, then one is not justified in resorting to violence. Aquinas states that the natural order conducive to peace among mortals demands that the power to declare and counsel war should be in the hands of those who hold the supreme authority. States have no common weal against internal disturbances, meaning that it is their business to have recourses to the sword of war in defending the common weal against external enemies. Lastly,

White Tiger The story White Tiger by Aravind Adiga follows the protagonist Balram in his gradual journey of being powerless to being a powerful and wealthy entrepreneur in India through a letter that he writes to the Premier of China. The struggle to wealth is especially challenging in India and is constantly compared to the metaphor of the Rooster Coop. The metaphor of the Rooster Coop compares rooster in a cage to servants to their masters. Roosters are stucked in a cage and faces grave consequence if they dare to escape similarly to servants as the can not leave their masters and if they dare to challenge their masters and leave they will also face grave consequences. The Rooster Coop of India perpetuates the division of the rich and the poor. Most lower class people do not dare to challenge the way that India is structured except for Balram. • 41. Eassy On Roundworm Essay Toxocariasis is commonly known as the Roundworm Infection. With this species there are four different approaches of acquiring infection. Possible ways of infection include direct transmission (straight eating the eggs within stool), prenatal transmission (contamination while in utero), paratenic transmission (the transmission can occur with a and transmammary transmission (can be spread through the mammary glands like breastfeeding and placenta). Egg are left in the feces of dogs, from there they can be spread between 2 4 weeks. When dogs eat infectious eggs it allows the eggs to hatch and the larval form of the parasite to penetrate through the gut wall. In younger dogs, the larvae can travel via bloodstream by piercing a bloodvessel in the gut wall. Once ingested, the eggs hatch, and the larvae enter the wall of the small intestine. Once larvae become mobile they can migrate through the host via circulatory system into the respiratory system into other organs and tissues within the body. When they enter the body they can become encyst (pretty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The larvae will simply undergo a dormant stage within an intermediate host until they are in a dog again. The development of the larva into worm is restricted to the gastrointestinal tract of a dog. If the parasite finds itself inside a human through ingestion of the infective eggs, it does not exactly have a sense of direction. That s right if a person eats egg infested poop, once the eggs hatch the larva or worms will meander wherever they feel like going. That means if they want to take a trip through the bloodstream and capillaries, lungs, or if they want to harbor in the brain, liver or eye they can. The most common infestation in the human body leaves mild symptoms, but once in the eye the effects can be local inflammation partial blindness or complete blindness. Nerve endings can become damaged if tampered

  • 44. The End Of The Civil War After the civil war, tension arose between the North and the South. Northerners made the decision to reconstruct the south. While the south rejected their efforts and resisted change, the north was angered by their hostile response. The northerners coming in were called derogatory terms, such as carpetbaggers and were seen as exploiting the south. Many changes were being made including the Federal Government protecting each individual citizen s freedom, reinterpreting the constitution, and a transformation of slave workers into legal citizens. The 13th amendment being passed in 1864 abolishing slavery was Lincoln s final solution. Next was a movement of reintegrating the north and the south, while also including former slaves into the picture and it proved to be a lot for people to accept. Even though there was revolutionary change happening, things still weren t progressing in all areas. The black codes that were put in place in 1865 to restrict the freed black slave s rights were just one of many examples of how racism was not going anywhere even after the civil war. While the conflict between raceand class existed very much simultaneously, I believe that in order to fully understand American history since the civil war it is important to focus on racial tension. One of the biggest contributing factors of racism was the divide between the north and the south. This had a lot to do with the unfinished reconstruction that began in 1963. The south opposed any interaction

The typical Hollywood High School Scene opens with the jock and the cheerleader characters. Blonde and buff, the Jock and the Cheerleader are superficial and proud to proclaim it. They are popular and perky, and always too good to be true. The cheerleader is usually the enemy of the hero or heroine. She is generally rich, blonde, and queen bee of the social circle, with no sense of selflessness. Violet in turn decided to impersonate her twin brother Sebastian at her rival school so that she can tryout for the male soccer team and show her now ex boyfriend that girls can play just as well as boys. At her new high school she falls in love with her brother s roommate. The problem is, he thinks she s a boy. Violet is not your typical movie heroine, in the beginning of the movie she seemingly has everything a girl could want, however her passion for soccer drives her to step outside the norm and prove herself. Although the main character in this movie contradicts Denby s view of teen movies, there are many other characters in the movie who fall directly in line with Denby s theory. For example, Sebastian s girlfriend Monique is a typical cheerleader type character. She has no regard for anyone s life but her own. Also, Violet s divorced parents are completely unaware that their son Sebastian is in London playing with a band, and their daughter Violet is impersonating him in order to play soccer. In retrospect, Denby s views hold up in analysis. Occasionally there is a movie or a character that steps outside Denby s stereotype, however most teen movies are similar.

  • 47. Edith Wharton s Roman Fever The majority of people in society today believe in free will and that they can choose what happens in their own life. Others acknowledge an unknown force that shapes their lives, which they have no control over. This conflict can be explained by the Determinism theory. Determinism is a philosophy described as human beings having no free willand therefore, cannot control their own actions and should not be held accountable. This philosophy is seen in Edith Wharton s short storyRoman Fever by her characters Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley as they argue about a letter and an affairin the duration of the story. Wharton s main characters are on opposing sides of the philosophy of determinism, with Mrs. Slade representing determinism and Mrs. Ansley representing free will, respectively and each effectively showing Wharton s disagreement to determinism. In Roman Fever , Mrs. Slade represented determinism in the duration of the story through her jealousy and similar emotions. Her thoughts and actions in the story towards her lifelong friend has traces of jealousy and bewilderment throughout the story. For example when reminiscing on the days of their youth in Rome, she realized that, There was no one of whom she had less right to think unkindly than of Grace Ansley. Would she never cure herself of envying her! (Wharton 6). Mrs. Slade talks about how her life is boring and now that her husband has passed away, her life is even more dreary. She envious of the type of daughter

As Carver shows how difficult it is for the mother to close that special mother son relationship they once had, and how long it takes for her to finally move on. Next, the mother infers that the closure of their relationship is due to the son not wanting to spend any time with her. • 49. The Limits Of Human Communication From the beginning of human s existence on earth, communication has been a crucial aspect of human life. Communication allows humans to express their ideas or feelings to others which gives humans the ability to connect to each other at an interpersonal level. Technology is a product of human communication through expression of ideas that has lead technology to be the rise of a new form of communication. Technology is changing the way humans connect by moving towards more virtual interactions between people rather than face to face. The essay Limits of Friendship written by Maria Konnikova speaks on how technology takes away from humanface to face connection, yet as technology continues to innovate this essay will disprove her thesis. An essay Paumgarten wrote We Are a Camera interrelates to disproving Konnikova s thesis by showing how POV camera s allow us to connect our lives and express our idea s like never before. Myself growing up as technology continues to innovate and change I too agree with Paumgarten s writings seeing how technology has changed my own abilities to connect by expanding the possibilities to interact with other humans. Technology has expanded the way people connect by providing limitless and easy accessible content from across the earth. Technology changed the way humans connect by transforming it into a global platform which nullifies geographical barriers. Konnikova acknowledges technologies global platform as a way to network effectively.
