The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
The realm of fantasy literature is categorized by authors use of sweeping, alien, settings and the desire
to escape from the banal vistas of Earth s familiar geography. What happens when readers delve
deeper into the chasms of unknown ravines, sweep through foreign valleys, scale faraway mountains,
and realize that these alien backdrops are closely related to their own home planet? In The Inheritance
Cycle, author Christopher Paolini introduces readers to the beautiful Alagaësia: a world populated by
humans, elves, magic wielders, dwarves, urgals, and dragon riders. The physical features of Alagaësia
and the native lands inhabited by the above listed peoples are closely tied together. The natives
parallel the characteristics of the lands they inhabit from geologic creation to geographic location.
Christopher Paolini s imagined landscape is heavily influenced by the geological features of his native
Paradise Valley, Montana1. His Inheritance Cycle features identifiable passages where Alagaësia s
geography essentially duplicates that of Earth s. The creation process of geologic features directly
impacts the characterizations of Alagaësia s inhabitants. To fully appreciate this mirroring, there must
first be an introduction to the lands of Alagaësia. The defining characteristics of three of Alagaësia s
races can be predicted by the geologic features of the lands they inhabit. The three races and geologic
features that will be discussed include: the Dwarven race who inhabit

Network Virtualization Using Generic Routing Encapsulation
RFC 7637: NETWORK VIRTUALIZATION USING GENERIC ROUTING ENCAPSULATION
AKSHAY HARISH WASANKAR Student ID: 44649479 Southern Methodist University EETS 8317
Switching and QoS Management in IP Networks Dr. Kamakshi Sridhar April 28, 2016 Abstract This
paper explores the details of RFC 7637 which is based on Network Virtualization using Generic
Routing Encapsulation. The purpose of this paper is to describe the usage of Generic Routing
Encapsulation (GRE) header for Network Virtualization (NVGRE) in multi tenant data centers.
Several issues with traditional data center designs such as static workloads, limitations on dynamic
allocation of server and network, oversubscribed network when using RSTP to avoid loops, 4K subnet
limit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional Data Centers have obsolete design catering to static workloads, fragmented networks and
server capacity limiting the dynamic allocation and consolidation of capacity. Most Layer 2 networks
use rapid spanning tree protocol to eliminate possible loops by blocking redundant paths, but it results
in wasted capacity and oversubscribed network. Network fragmentation and VLANs are used for
traffic management, security, performance and broadcast isolation among services belonging to
different clients or tenants. For forwarding VLAN tagged packets, each layer 2 device needs to be
configured and each layer 3 subnet needs to be mapped to one VLAN. In the data center infrastructure
which is shared by multiple tenants, the 4000 VLAN limit is no longer acceptable. Also migrating
workloads require network to be re configured which can consume resources and be error prone. To
respond to dynamic workloads and demands, network administrators and operators must be to achieve
high utilization of server and network capacity, be able to assign workloads operating in single layer 2
network to any server in any rack in the network, be able to move workloads without re configuring
the network. This is achieved by decoupling the workload s location from its network address.
Therefore, key design objectives for the modern data centers are: Location independent addressing
Scalable number of Layer2/layer 3 networks regardless of number of VLANS or underlying physical

Women s Reproductive Rights
What if a sixteen year old decided to apply to adopt a child? She d be denied that from the get go,
right? Of course, she s way too young, not nearly mature enough, can t support herself on her own,
etc. If all of this is true, then why should a sixteen year old rape victim have to raise a child she didn t
plan for? Even women who aren t ready to start a family or any other reason, shouldn t have to. All
women deserve true information and the access to safe and legal abortions.
The case of Roe v. Wade is basically what started the political side of things. In 1969 a divorced
Norma McCorvey was seeking abortion for an unwanted pregnancy. At this time, it ... Show more

This benefitted the US in that it was more available to women in need. The downfall was that it
brought about a division in the public. Many states are still restricting the availability of abortion even
after this ruling because of how hard the pro life group is working to overturn it (Bailey 5).
Pro life groups can view abortion as murder. Since the cells of the fetus in the very beginning of the
pregnancy are technically living things, they can be considered alive. (Should Abortion be Legal?)
While these cells are technically alive, they are still completely dependent on the mother for
absolutely everything. The cells couldn t develop at all if it weren t in the uterus.
Human life in its fullest sense includes the ability to exist as a separate being and to be conscious
aware of one s surroundings and to be able to think, feel, and respond to them. (Bailey 6) The decision
to terminate the pregnancy should be decided well before the point where the fetus could survive
outside of the uterus besides in the extreme cases.
It s also argued that everyone can prevent pregnancy. Sure, the only way to really do this is to practice
abstinence, but not everyone chooses to do this. Some who are otherwise abstinent can t control rape.
The victim isn t at fault and should have every right to terminate that unwanted pregnancy. Some who
don t practice abstinence could still be at a disadvantage. With Planned Parenthood centers being shut
down and poor sexual education

Impact of the Information Communication Technology on...
Introduction
Not even a single aspect of life has remained untouched or unaffected by the advent of information
communication technology. But one aspect of life that is most affected by ICT is education. ICT has
brought about various changes in the style of teaching, in working conditions, and in the ways which
are used in handling information. Teaching approaches are being highly modified by the presence of
ICT (Mikre, 2011).
We reside in a technological society under which the educational programs available for the students
are highly modernised. Lectures which are conveyed to the students in the presence of computer
assisted techniques are more effective because they stimulate the memory of the students. In the past
ten years information technology has undergone great progress, and that is why multimedia
technologies have occupied a special place in today s world. Electronic board, video spotlight and
adaptive software all come under modern technologies which are to be used for educational purposes
(Gabriela, 2006).
Computers in Education Education has become very easy in the presence of computers. Conveying
information becomes very convenient as well as interesting by means of computers. Computers have
huge memory which enables the students to save bulk of data. Students can easily process the data
with the help of computer technology with very less chances of errors. Documents can even be saved
in computers in the form of soft copies. There no longer remains

Three examples that I will be writing about are: Rab in the book and in the movie, Johnny in the book

An Analysis Of Don Mozart s Opera Buffa
In his opera buffa, Don Giovanni, Mozart depicts Don Giovanni as a libertine and philanderer. At the
start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between the
bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all singing
about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello, interrupts the
wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa too, leaving Zerlina
alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands that he has no control
over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I understand, before leaving.
Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and promises to marry her. Shortly
after he sings that they will be married, an ensemble between Don Giovanni and Zerlina starts, in
which Zerlina reveals that she would be happy to marry him but fears that Don Giovanni is deceiving
her. The duet ends with Don Giovanni appearing to succeed with his scheme. Three versions of the
opera, the first conducted by Craig Smith and directed by Peter Sellars in Vienna in 1990, the second
conducted by Colin Davis and directed by John Vernon in the Royal Opera House in London in 1998,
and the third conducted by Nicholas Harnencourt and directed by Brian Large in the Zurich Opera
House in 2001 mostly have the same libretto for this scene and depict a similar disparity in

Separation Anxiety Disorder Essay
This paper examines the various symptoms of Separation Anxiety Disorder among children and
adolescents, the refusal of children diagnosed with Separation Anxiety Disorder to go to school, and
the treatments that are used to treat this disorder. Studies have shown that Separation Anxiety Disorder
is the third most common anxiety disorder among children. Symptoms are fairly easy to recognize, but
must be addressed quickly. Refusal to go to school is one of the most significant consequences of this
disorder. Treatments are being made available to children who suffer from this disorder and advances
in research are being made. As human beings, we all have the capability of experiencing emotions and

SAD is one of the most commonly diagnosed anxiety disorders among children. It is completely
normal for adolescents, especially in very young adolescents, to experience some degree of separation
anxiety. In comparison, separation anxiety disorder is excessive worry or anxiety that goes beyond the
expected amount for the child s developmental level. SAD is characterized by excessive anxiety
concerning separation from home or from those to whom a child is attached. While some tend to
believe that this anxiety disorder is more common among females than males, it has been determined
that SAD occurs at approximately the same rate in males and females (Eisen Schaefer, 2005).
Separation Anxiety Disorder is not permanent. It can be cured; however children with SAD are at
higher risk for the development of other anxiety disorders and depression not only in adolescence, but
in adulthood as well. Studies have shown that children who are diagnosed with SAD are much more
likely to have are much more likely to develop panic disorder, bipolar disorder, attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder and several others later in life. Studies have also shown that children diagnosed
with SAD have similar symptoms that occur among them. Primary symptoms include excessive worry
about potential harm to self or major attachment figures, frequent nightmares about separation,
physical ailments such as nausea, headaches, stomach pains, as well as

The Effects Of Disengagement Theory Of Retirement
People spend most years of their life pursuing their selected career path. For most individuals, if not
all, their jobs become part of their way of life. Spending numerous years doing work routines and
activities makes a person accustomed to a certain lifestyle no matter how stressful and busy his job
may be. However, at some point in time, the habits he developed throughout the length of his career
will come to an end. When the age of retirement comes, an individual will have to withdraw from
nearly all of these activities. This aspect of aging has become a subject of several studies because of
the impacts it causes to people who reached this life phase, especially on their health. While some
studies argue that retirement negatively affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Cumming and Henry (1961), the disengagement theory of aging explains that a person
and the society mutually separates from each other during the phase of old age (as cited in Moody
Sasser, 2015, p.). However, the proposition of Ding et al. (2016) to craft and implement programs
capitalizing on the opportunity presented by older adults retirement as a way to alter their behaviors to
improve their well being does otherwise. Rather than allowing older people to disengage, the
researchers urges the society, particularly the government and health professionals, to reach out to
retirees. Ding et al. (2016) believe that taking advantage of older adults retirement would be beneficial
in terms of improving public health, especially in the coming years when their number is constantly
growing.
Moreover, activity and continuity theories of aging contend that older adults tend to keep their habits.
As people believe that their roles and activities determines their identity, they will strive to maintain
doing these things because their values and needs remain the same (Moody Sasser, 2015). In contrast
with what is proposed by the disengagement theory, activity theory emphasizes that active people tend
to be more satisfied with life. Same goes with the

Anansi And Brother Death By Audrey Krisbergh
Anansi and Brother death is an African folklore tale, about the spider trickster Anansi encountering
Brother Death. Anansi discovers an old man sitting outside of a house one day. Anansi, being thirsty
asks the old man if he can enter his home and have a drink of water. The old man stays totally silent.
Anansi takes it upon himself then, to enter the home, drink some water and help himself to any food
he pleases. He leaves the home, thanking the old man for his hospitality. The next day Anansi returns,
and once more takes what water and food he desires, after the old man says nothing to him. On the
third day, he brings one of his daughters with him and tells the old man that the girl is now the old
man s wife. Anansi tells his daughter to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a being as powerful as Death itself is punished with failure and embarrassment because
of his desire to capture Anansi, to take revenge on the Spider for his abuse of Brother Death s home, is
a powerful moral message. It illustrates how revenge can cost the person seeking it even more than the
person they wish to get revenge on.
Greed and it s risk towards yourself and those you care about, the exploitation of silence as
permission, and the fact that revenge can be a dangerous thing to seek out are very complex lessons
that would be next to impossible to explain to a child. Anansi s popularity in african lore, his trickster
nature and his punishment from Brother Death, along with the punishment dealt upon Brother Death,
play a very strong message to the audience, and allow these complex moral ideals to be conveyed in

Human Trafficking And Modern Day Slavery Essay
Human Trafficking There is an ever growing problem that is coursing the world. Every day 3,287
people are sold or kidnapped, and are forced into slavery. (Human Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012)
Most people do not realize that modern day slavery happens closer to home than they think. 14,000
17,500 is the estimated number of people trafficked into the United States each year. (Human
Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012) The government has tried to reduce this problem as well as
everyday people. Most everyone knows of this issue, but do not know how to help prevent the
situation from happening. Human trafficking is the term used today for modern day slavery. (Hart 5)
This modern day slavery is something that needs to be stopped. With all of the many causes of human
trafficking, it becomes difficult for government agencies to prevent the act of modern day slavery.
During the 1990s, the United States began to take steps to address human trafficking at home and
abroad. ( Human Trafficking Agencies 6) Along with government agencies, everyday people need to
become more aware in order to stop the ever growing problem. Human trafficking happens because of
the large profit brought in through the act and the difficulty of government agencies to identify cases.
By increasing funding in training human trafficking prosecutors, law enforcement and judges the
human trafficking business will be under greater risk, leading to the downfall of the human trafficking
business.

Good Will Hunting and Bell Hooks Keeping Close to Home Essay
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The
promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges
that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these
obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors
in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
This synthesis will examine the motion picture Good Will Hunting and an essay by an author Bell

that Will Hunting has to over come. Very defensive and isolated Will Hunting is befriended very
slowly by Sean McGuire to open up his emotional problem and to let them go. Will Hunting s inability
to trust, love and communicate handicaps him to do well in life with careers and relationships.
In the essay entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education, the author Bell Hooks tells of her
struggles when she goes off to the prestigious college Stanford University at the age of 18. Coming
from a working low class economic background hooks deals with ridicule from her family and the
difficulties of adjusting from a lower class to a higher class setting at Stanford. The dilemma that
Hooks face with her family is; she states, My parents had not been delighted that I had been accepted
and adamantly opposed my going so far from home (p. 161). Reason for this adamant feeling was that
Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn t really leave the house to go to school. It
was unheard of to leave a small town in the south and go to a big college out in the west. Especially if

Crime measurement and statistics for police departments are very important when it comes to money
allotment, staffing needs or termination and it is also used to determine the effectiveness of new laws
and programs. There are three tools used to measure major crime in the United States: Uniform Crime
Reports, National Crime Victimization Survey and the National Incident Based Reporting System
which is currently being tested to replace the Uniform Crime Reports. Although there different tools
used to measure crime, crime rates can be deceiving. Each different tool reports a different type of

Each year, data are obtained from a nationally representative sample of about 90,000 households,
comprising nearly 160,000 persons, on the frequency, characteristics, and consequences of criminal
victimization in the United States. Each household is interviewed twice during the year. The survey
enables BJS to estimate the likelihood of victimization by rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated
and simple assault, theft, household burglary, and motor vehicle theft for the population as a whole as
well as for segments of the population such as women, the elderly, members of various racial or ethnic
groups, city dwellers, and other groups. The NCVS provides the largest national forum for victims to
describe the impact of crime and characteristics of violent offenders.
The National Incident Based Reporting System is currently being tested to replace the Uniform Crime
Report. This new system will expand from the eight major crimes currently being used in the Uniform
Crime Report and it will also include demographic data on victim, perpetrator and crime. According to
the Federal Bureau of Investigation, The NIBRS is an incident based reporting system in which
agencies collect data on each single crime occurrence. NIBRS data come from local, state, and federal
automated records systems. An agency can build a system to suit its own needs, including

Psychological Disorders In Lewis Carroll s Alice In...
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because
everything would be what it isn t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn t be. And what it wouldn t be,
it would. You see? Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. Furthermore, a desire for one to bend the
world as they see fit, even when what they see fit isn t meant to be. There are many ways to read the
novel Alice in Wonderland , it holds not one point of view, but many which can be interpreted in
several ways. Analyzed from the critical viewpoint of physiological, readers may discover some
interesting and remarkable surprises. The specific point I would like to discuss today are the
physiological disorders this novel holds, such as the lunatic Red Queen who was wrapped whole with
narcissistic behaviors and personality disorders, the unimaginable feeling of loneliness portrayed
throughout Alice s adventure, and a dream anxiety disorder/psychosis or schizophrenia which
represented itself as the actual story, viewed through the main character Alice. To begin with, there are
many characters in Alice in Wonderland, who, despite the normality in their world, are rather odd; all
whom which held a distinctive characteristic that revolved around all their actions, words, and
surroundings. The Red Queen, who is described to have a very large head, portrays a character who is

Sources of Inequity in Highly Tracked Courses
Many students expressed the desire for study groups and more office hours. Currently, the teacher is
holding office hours whenever possible, and although that is limited by the teachers availability, the
formation of a study group is not. A school sponsored study group can be extremely beneficial for
students who may otherwise feel awkward asking a classmate they just met if they would like to study
together. One student stated, Most of what BHS would probably try to offer, most kids seek out on
their own. It would be nice to set up a peer study group at a set location on days when teacher is not
available if only for the students who don t have friends they feel they can rely on. That way no one
feels excluded when it comes to studying, and those who typically cannot rely on teacher or friends
have somewhere to go. From my own experience, all of my advanced courses in high school were
filled with at least a few of my friends (perks of going to a smaller school), so finding help was not a
huge issue. However, in college, study groups became my life outside the classroom. Last semester, I
spent eight hours a week in study groups, and without them, I would have probably had to take a few
courses again. Study groups give direction and structure to studying that one may otherwise not have
on his or her own. One high achieving student mentioned that her primary resource is about 4 5 close
friends with whom she formed a study group. Even a study workshop can guide students in

Human Security And The Security Of A State
When it comes to the security of a state, more traditional perspectives place security of the state above
the security of its people. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state
should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and
traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to
traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is
keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While
human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by
traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human
security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Both the state
and the people or co dependant and the safety of both is key to the progression of a state.
These contradictory perspectives create tension between the state and the people making security
decisions very difficult. The inability to determine a distinction between hard security, a more
fundamental and more access based way of security. This applies to the intricate system of encryption
and data restrictions that the state enforces. A soft security standpoint would apply to more awareness
bases ways of providing security. Soft security uses the people as its driving force and its

The Importance Of Integrity For A Business Means Being A...
Entrepreneurial Opportunities One of the defining characteristics of an entrepreneur is integrity.
Integrity plays into how others perceive you. Companies or individuals that display organic integrity
attract respect and consumer loyalty (Forbat, pg 23, 2007). Integrity for a business means being a good
corporate citizen. A company with good corporate citizenship has a strong set of ethics and is socially
conscious. Corporate citizenship needs to be ingrained in modern craft breweries at their inception so
their actions seem meaningful and organic as consumers tend to be suspicious of corporate agendas.
Because more and more consumers are expecting high levels of integrity, corporate citizenship
presents itself as a great entrepreneurial opportunity within the craft beer market. Being socially
conscious does not necessarily translate to better sales but it is definitely in the company s best interest
to keep an ethically sound public appearance. Consumers are quick to abandon socially corrupt
companies and are hard to win back once the company s reputation is soiled. Mitigating bad public
perception can be done by ensuring company ethics and social responsibility are met. This does
consume resources and is considered a cost to the company but it is becoming increasingly necessary
due to the wide spread access of information consumers have readily available. It is possible that if
marketed heavily to ensure consumers are aware of a company s good deeds that being a good

Telomere length affects how our cells age, and if they shorten, then it will shorten one s life as well as
makine one more susceptible to disease. This study was a cross sectional and longitudinal study that
resulted in a consistent beneficial effect with aging and health when consuming a anti inflammatory
diet (7). The beneficial effects were that it changed their telomere length. Anti inflammatory diets they
included were Mediterranean diets supplemented with olive oil, and Mediterranean diets
supplemented with mixed nuts. The control group was on a low fat diet. This study also showed that a
proinflammatory diet can affect a person telomere length by drastically shortening it (7). More
specifically, proinflammatory foods include fried foods, refined carbohydrates, and sugar and anti
inflammatory foods include vegetables like kale/spinach, fruits like tomatoes/blueberries, fatty fish,
and nuts.

A Research About Conflict And Conflicts
Abstract This is a research about conflict which should be considered and resolute during a project.
Although, six experts are from different background, there are many sufficient methods to deal with
different kind of issues during the working. The great mode has used in the research is Thomas
Kilmann s conflict mode instrument. (Thomas, K. W., Kilmann, R. H. ,1974). There are five effective
approaches are discussed. Each approaches have its positive and negative effects. Also, there are many
problems that each expert should consider about themselves which can devote their effort to help
finish the project successfully. Achieving mastery through a comprehensive study of all of these
methods can finally bring a huge success to the whole project. Conflicts Research Conflicts and
Conflicts Resolutions During Project It is hard and impossible to eliminate conflicts when processing
a team project. In the discussion problem 2, it tells us to solve a problem of developing experts from
different places to into a real and complete team. People from different backgrounds and diverse
places always have different values, perceptions, expectations, needs and resources. Also, different
people must have various personalities. Therefore, a good manager should know and tolerant

Similarities Between The Crucible And On The Waterfront
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is very similar to On the Waterfront, by Elia Kazan. The Crucible is a
play about the witch hunt trials that occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. The Crucible revolves around a
few girls who are accused of witchcraft after being caught dancing in the woods trying to cast spells.
On the Waterfront is about an Ex boxer named Terry Malloy. Terry witnesses a murder caused by his
morally depraved union of dockers and Johnny Friendly, their boss. Shortly after the murder, Terry
notices a girl named Edie Doyle, who happens to be the murdered man s sister. Throughout the whole
movie, she makes him view his world differently. Although The Crucible and On the Waterfront might

They both shared many similar problems. For example, they were both convicted of serious crimes
against society. During the 1950s, Miller was accused of being a member of the communist party,
similar to how Proctor was accused of witchcraft. Both Miller and Proctor refuse to name names of
the people involved. An example of this is when Proctor says, I have confessed myself!...God does not
need my name nailed upon the church!...God knows how black my sins are! It is enough! I have three
children how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends? (Miller 142).
Proctor is unwilling to turn in his name because he does not want to betray others, just like Miller didn
t want to betray the members of the communist party. Proctor was more willing to give up his life
rather than to conform to the evil society of Salem. Miller and Proctor both also spoke out against
what was going on. Proctor did not believe in all of the lies that were created by the rumors of
witchery in Salem. Similar to that, Miller didn t agree with the HUAC. Writing The Crucible was his
way to speak out against them. Miller used Proctor in The Crucible to represent him and his

Purpose In The Gospel Of Luke
Purpose
While there are many more specific purposes in the Gospel of Luke, the overall purpose is a defense
of the Christian faith, useful for both evangelism and discipleship. Luke is an eloquent Gospel that
provided valuable information about the faith for the believers in the church that are still as applicable
today in the twenty first century. A primary purpose in the Gospel of Luke is to tell of the miraculous
conception, birth, and childhood of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Luke is the only Gospel (besides
Matthew) that focuses on the birth and virginal conception of Christ. The Gospels of Mark and John
give no information regarding the conception and birth of Christ; the first mention of Christ in these
Gospels is of Christ as a grown man. While Matthew gives account of the visit of the Magi and flight

Babe Ruth, Informative
Everyone has heard of the infamous Babe Ruth , but few people know that his birth given name is
George Herman Ruth, Jr. He lived from February 6, 1895 August 16, 1948, and was best known as
Babe Ruth and nicknamed the Bambino and the Sultan of Swat . Babe was an American baseball
player who spent 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) playing for three teams between the
years of 1914 1935. The most important points of Babe s life are his early childhood, his major league
baseball career, and the legacy that Babe left behind.
Ruth came from German American parents, Kate Schamberger Ruth and George Herman Ruth, Sr. His
parents owned a succession of saloons (bars) and sold lightning rods. Babe Ruth was one of seven

Babe s amazing pitching allowed the Red Sox to win the World Series again, four games to one. Ruth
extended his World Series consecutive scoreless inning streak to 29⅔ innings, a recorded that would
last until almost fifty years later. Inly July 1918, Ruth walked off the field due to a dispute with the
manager, a mistake that would soon lead him to be traded to the Yankees. However Ruth wouldn t go
out without a fight. Ruth placed a curse on the Red Sox for trading him to the Yankees. The Red Sox
didn t win another World Series until 2004 (86 years later).
On December 26, 1919, Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees. Several reasons such as Babe s
negative attitude and his demand for a double in his salary led his trade to the New York Yankees for
almost $2mil (in now a days dollars). Babe would stay with the Yankees from 1919 1935. During his
career with the Yankees, Babe Ruth emerged from a pitcher, to an all star hitter. In 1920, Babe hit 54
home runs and his .847 slugging average would remain a Major League Baseball record for over 80
years. The best year of Ruth s career was 1921, hitting 59 home runs, batting .378 and slugging .846.
Ruth also hit a record high of 139 home runs on July 18, 1921. Ruth s name soon became synonymous
with the term home run. Babe s powerful home runs went as far as 575 feet from the home plate.
Unfortunately, due to an injury, Babe was not able to play in a majority of the World Series against the
New York Giants. This led to the

ISIS Oil Drilling
Around the world, countries are reeling with the losses caused by the increasingly more powerful
terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). While undoubtedly other countries are
experiencing greater losses than the U.S., especially those affected financially by the costs of taking in
Syrian refugees or those closer to the conflict, such as those in the Levant area that have been
forcefully taken over by ISIS or robbed by it, the U.S. is already opening its purse in an effort to find a

handled the same way as before, conflict will only worsen in the future and a full scale war will be

The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution means historical change in the minds and belief to change in social and
formal associations. This revolution began in Europe between 1500 1700. It started with Nicholas
Copernicus who stated a heliocentric (astronomical model) cosmos, and ended with Isaac Newton
who suggested universal law (principles and rules for governing human beings conduct which are
most universal in their acceptability, their applicability, translation, and philosophical basis) and a
Mechanical Universe(theory that the universe is best understood as a system composed entirely of
matter in motion under a complete and regular system of laws). Some historians have a different idea

The Problem Of Teen Drinking
Every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash. A dangerous issue facing
society today is the problem of teen drinking and driving. Currently an approximate of 10,076 people
die in drunk driving crashes per year. If positive progress to ceasing this act does not happen, teens
will continue to drink and drive putting everybody on the road at risk. Teens who drink and drive put
everyone on the road at risk, causing serious crashes that could be preventable. Background of the

Fake IDs are often very effective because they are not always taken seriously in the bouncer world.
There are approximately more fake IDs than real that are used on college campuses. A Her Campus
survey found that 54.5% of readers surveyed had or currently have a fake ID (Collins, 2012, p. 2). The
people guarding the doors at clubs and bars aren t always equipped to spot fake IDs. In an interview,
FIRST NAME Shubaly, a New York bouncer, quoted I never received any formal how to spot a fake

how easy it is for teens to get alcohol, which only increases the risk of a teen to get behind the wheel
while under the influence, even if they were not planning on drinking that night. Teens who take on
the responsibility of being a designated driver are sometimes still pressured into drinking. Teens who
get peer pressured into drinking when they know they had a responsibility to drive later often still do.
Some teens decide to drink a little bit at parties so it looks like they are trying to get drunk to other
teens around them in order to look or feel cool. While 71% of teens have tried alcohol by the end of
high school, far fewer drink to get drunk (Barker, 2013, p. 6). When a teen gives into peer pressure or
takes just one sip, they do not always know what they are getting themselves into. Most kids wildly

Emmanuel Kant Research Paper
Before critical theory was fully developed and defined, many philosophers played a part influencing
future thinkers in the way we critique reason, ourselves, society, and ultimately how we can strive
towards autonomy and freedom. These four German historical figures were: Emmanuel Kant, J.G.
Fichte, G.W.F. Hegel and Karl Marx. Emmanuel Kant was born in 1724 and died in 1804 in
Konigsberg, Prussia. He was one of nine children and grew up in a strict religious household. From
the age of 16, Kant spent most of his years in life at the University of Konigsberg as a student and
completing his own research. As a youth, he studied philosophy, sciences, and the works of Isaac
Newton. Although Kant is known for his philosophical contributions, he made major contribution to
astronomy in the 1750 s and 60 s by theorizing about our solar system and the Earth s rotation.
Kant became interested in the structure and limits to our own knowledge. Three critiques were written
between 1781 and 1790: Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of ... Show more content on

G.W.F. Hegel was born in 1770, Stuttgart, Germany. As a German Idealist he was very influential in

Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best...
Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis.
Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views.
Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes
advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self
interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite
political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do
as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in
a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state
of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the
most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a
materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are
composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the
same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his
composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the
need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life,

The Contradictory Spectatorial Address Of Some Like It Hot
The Contradictory Spectatorial Address of Some Like It Hot
A film of the fifties, Some Like It Hot (Billy Wilder, USA, 1959) provides insight into the state of the
film industry, recently wracked by legislation and censorship, the implementation of pre existing
technology in part to combat the new limitations, the importance of the star system, and the two sided
response to the social norms, both contradicting and reinforcing the status quo. Billy Wilder seemingly
celebrates disregard for moral values of the time as a source of humor, referencing cross dressing, sex,
homosexuality, and lesbianism through leading men who execute cons without suffering negative
consequences; and expects his spectator to do the same. Overall, the film appears ... Show more

In the period, the newly implemented technological elements and unique stylistic choices present the
context of moviegoing as [a] special event, which contributed to the cultivation of an aggressive
relationship with the spectator. Wilder also spectacularizes his film through its genre subversion and
bawdy humor. However, in his references to more serious themes, such as gender, he engages the
newly developing sophisticated spectator, capable of distinguishing and appreciating the technological
features of films, the issues tackled within narratives, and the implied breeches of the Production
Code, such as when Osgood pinche[s] Jerry/Daphne (Jack Lemmon) behind the closed doors of an
elevator.
The spectacularity of the star system in this period and particularly in Some Like It Hot directly
connect with its gender issues. Steven Cohen argues that the fifties star system presents actors as both
gender models and sexual objects, and Wilder s film reinforces his conclusions. Cohen goes on to call
Monroe the most spectacularized female star of the decade, a fact Wilder openly uses to his advantage.
In the character of Sugar Kane, Wilder includes extratextual references to two of Monroe s popular
roles, Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Howard Hawkes, USA, 1953) and Pola Debevoise in
How to Marry a Millionaire (Jean Negulesco, USA, 1953), both in search of rich men, like Kane.

Behavior Analysis Principles
Conceptually consistent programs within behavior analysis are those programs that use the principles
of operant learning theory. Sensory integration and mindfulness therapies are not conceptually
consistent with the principles of behavior analysis.
Behavior analysts should be aware of the values their clients have. The behavior analyst should be
clear about the methods to be used and the underlying conceptual basis for the procedures when

the world refugee crisis.
In fact asylum seeker and refugee policies remain as one of the most controversial political debates in
Australia. In the recent years the Austrian government has been adopting various strict measurements
mainly as a political response to the increasing number of asylum seekers and refugees. Australian
major political parties have been keen to adopt deterrence based policies to discourage and prevent

techniques I have been able to improve or learn new strategies for academic success in the pursuit of
lifelong learning. After being out of a traditional school for over twenty years, my academic success
strategy began with obtaining a rhythm of life and school. Once I developed and implemented a good
personal time management routine that allowed ample time for the many competing activities life
brings, I was on course for success in achieving my goals. One aspect of this class that had a
significant impact on my academic success was modifying the way I took notes to include all essential

The modern world, as of today, is greatly fuelled by the growing economy in the field of electronics,
but yet, much of daily tasks in education, the work office, and such are still done by hand, and thus
slow down the rate of the undertaking greatly. However, many techniques used in more complex
situations, can be tinkered with, adding in new ideas, and concepts, applied in different ways can
eventually bring a harmony betweenst daily life and the technological world. For example, the RFID

RFID tags are an acronym for Radio Frequency IDentification and although can be used and applied
for a multitude of purposes in the world, the greater majority of them are used to prevent theft at the

Role Of The Power Industry And The Services It Provides Essay
The main goal of DTL Power s cybersecurity strategy is maintaining data integrity and availability of
resources while ensuring that all systems and facilities exceed the industry standards. This strategy is
critically important due to the nature of the power industry and the services it provides. The
implementation of the controls falls in line with the cybersecurity strategy designated by leadership.
The hacktivist and virus attack were able to successfully penetrate our system causing downtime and
affecting system integrity. Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent and evasive therefore it is
imperative that strong security measures be enforced to not only secure network resources but to
prevent unauthorized access.
In order to prevent unauthorized access to DTL Power s data, the cybersecurity team has selected
strict filtering controls to secure the firewall with the strictest configurations to better control traffic
traversing the network and disabling all unnecessary open ports. A firewall with strict filtering rules
detects intrusions and prevents unauthorized access by policing the traffic and access requests to the
firewall. By disabling firewall ports that are not necessary for normal communication, attack
opportunities are greatly reduced. Devices use specific ports for communicating so it is important to
conduct a thorough inquiry into which ports need to remain open. An attacker can take advantage of
open ports, gain access and create a backdoor for

  • 2. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini The realm of fantasy literature is categorized by authors use of sweeping, alien, settings and the desire to escape from the banal vistas of Earth s familiar geography. What happens when readers delve deeper into the chasms of unknown ravines, sweep through foreign valleys, scale faraway mountains, and realize that these alien backdrops are closely related to their own home planet? In The Inheritance Cycle, author Christopher Paolini introduces readers to the beautiful Alagaësia: a world populated by humans, elves, magic wielders, dwarves, urgals, and dragon riders. The physical features of Alagaësia and the native lands inhabited by the above listed peoples are closely tied together. The natives parallel the characteristics of the lands they inhabit from geologic creation to geographic location. Christopher Paolini s imagined landscape is heavily influenced by the geological features of his native Paradise Valley, Montana1. His Inheritance Cycle features identifiable passages where Alagaësia s geography essentially duplicates that of Earth s. The creation process of geologic features directly impacts the characterizations of Alagaësia s inhabitants. To fully appreciate this mirroring, there must first be an introduction to the lands of Alagaësia. The defining characteristics of three of Alagaësia s races can be predicted by the geologic features of the lands they inhabit. The three races and geologic features that will be discussed include: the Dwarven race who inhabit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Network Virtualization Using Generic Routing Encapsulation RFC 7637: NETWORK VIRTUALIZATION USING GENERIC ROUTING ENCAPSULATION AKSHAY HARISH WASANKAR Student ID: 44649479 Southern Methodist University EETS 8317 Switching and QoS Management in IP Networks Dr. Kamakshi Sridhar April 28, 2016 Abstract This paper explores the details of RFC 7637 which is based on Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulation. The purpose of this paper is to describe the usage of Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) header for Network Virtualization (NVGRE) in multi tenant data centers. Several issues with traditional data center designs such as static workloads, limitations on dynamic allocation of server and network, oversubscribed network when using RSTP to avoid loops, 4K subnet limit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional Data Centers have obsolete design catering to static workloads, fragmented networks and server capacity limiting the dynamic allocation and consolidation of capacity. Most Layer 2 networks use rapid spanning tree protocol to eliminate possible loops by blocking redundant paths, but it results in wasted capacity and oversubscribed network. Network fragmentation and VLANs are used for traffic management, security, performance and broadcast isolation among services belonging to different clients or tenants. For forwarding VLAN tagged packets, each layer 2 device needs to be configured and each layer 3 subnet needs to be mapped to one VLAN. In the data center infrastructure which is shared by multiple tenants, the 4000 VLAN limit is no longer acceptable. Also migrating workloads require network to be re configured which can consume resources and be error prone. To respond to dynamic workloads and demands, network administrators and operators must be to achieve high utilization of server and network capacity, be able to assign workloads operating in single layer 2 network to any server in any rack in the network, be able to move workloads without re configuring the network. This is achieved by decoupling the workload s location from its network address. Therefore, key design objectives for the modern data centers are: Location independent addressing Scalable number of Layer2/layer 3 networks regardless of number of VLANS or underlying physical ... • 4. Women s Reproductive Rights Essay Corah Hauser Miss Windish English II 3 October 2017 Women s Reproductive Rights What if a sixteen year old decided to apply to adopt a child? She d be denied that from the get go, right? Of course, she s way too young, not nearly mature enough, can t support herself on her own, etc. If all of this is true, then why should a sixteen year old rape victim have to raise a child she didn t plan for? Even women who aren t ready to start a family or any other reason, shouldn t have to. All women deserve true information and the access to safe and legal abortions. The case of Roe v. Wade is basically what started the political side of things. In 1969 a divorced Norma McCorvey was seeking abortion for an unwanted pregnancy. At this time, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This benefitted the US in that it was more available to women in need. The downfall was that it brought about a division in the public. Many states are still restricting the availability of abortion even after this ruling because of how hard the pro life group is working to overturn it (Bailey 5). Pro life groups can view abortion as murder. Since the cells of the fetus in the very beginning of the pregnancy are technically living things, they can be considered alive. (Should Abortion be Legal?) While these cells are technically alive, they are still completely dependent on the mother for absolutely everything. The cells couldn t develop at all if it weren t in the uterus. Human life in its fullest sense includes the ability to exist as a separate being and to be conscious aware of one s surroundings and to be able to think, feel, and respond to them. (Bailey 6) The decision to terminate the pregnancy should be decided well before the point where the fetus could survive outside of the uterus besides in the extreme cases. It s also argued that everyone can prevent pregnancy. Sure, the only way to really do this is to practice abstinence, but not everyone chooses to do this. Some who are otherwise abstinent can t control rape. The victim isn t at fault and should have every right to terminate that unwanted pregnancy. Some who don t practice abstinence could still be at a disadvantage. With Planned Parenthood centers being shut down and poor sexual education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Impact of the Information Communication Technology on... Introduction Not even a single aspect of life has remained untouched or unaffected by the advent of information communication technology. But one aspect of life that is most affected by ICT is education. ICT has brought about various changes in the style of teaching, in working conditions, and in the ways which are used in handling information. Teaching approaches are being highly modified by the presence of ICT (Mikre, 2011). We reside in a technological society under which the educational programs available for the students are highly modernised. Lectures which are conveyed to the students in the presence of computer assisted techniques are more effective because they stimulate the memory of the students. In the past ten years information technology has undergone great progress, and that is why multimedia technologies have occupied a special place in today s world. Electronic board, video spotlight and adaptive software all come under modern technologies which are to be used for educational purposes (Gabriela, 2006). Computers in Education Education has become very easy in the presence of computers. Conveying information becomes very convenient as well as interesting by means of computers. Computers have huge memory which enables the students to save bulk of data. Students can easily process the data with the help of computer technology with very less chances of errors. Documents can even be saved in computers in the form of soft copies. There no longer remains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. An Analysis Of Don Mozart s Opera Buffa In his opera buffa, Don Giovanni, Mozart depicts Don Giovanni as a libertine and philanderer. At the start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between the bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all singing about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello, interrupts the wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa too, leaving Zerlina alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands that he has no control over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I understand, before leaving. Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and promises to marry her. Shortly after he sings that they will be married, an ensemble between Don Giovanni and Zerlina starts, in which Zerlina reveals that she would be happy to marry him but fears that Don Giovanni is deceiving her. The duet ends with Don Giovanni appearing to succeed with his scheme. Three versions of the opera, the first conducted by Craig Smith and directed by Peter Sellars in Vienna in 1990, the second conducted by Colin Davis and directed by John Vernon in the Royal Opera House in London in 1998, and the third conducted by Nicholas Harnencourt and directed by Brian Large in the Zurich Opera House in 2001 mostly have the same libretto for this scene and depict a similar disparity in ... • 9. The Effects Of Disengagement Theory Of Retirement People spend most years of their life pursuing their selected career path. For most individuals, if not all, their jobs become part of their way of life. Spending numerous years doing work routines and activities makes a person accustomed to a certain lifestyle no matter how stressful and busy his job may be. However, at some point in time, the habits he developed throughout the length of his career will come to an end. When the age of retirement comes, an individual will have to withdraw from nearly all of these activities. This aspect of aging has become a subject of several studies because of the impacts it causes to people who reached this life phase, especially on their health. While some studies argue that retirement negatively affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Cumming and Henry (1961), the disengagement theory of aging explains that a person and the society mutually separates from each other during the phase of old age (as cited in Moody Sasser, 2015, p.). However, the proposition of Ding et al. (2016) to craft and implement programs capitalizing on the opportunity presented by older adults retirement as a way to alter their behaviors to improve their well being does otherwise. Rather than allowing older people to disengage, the researchers urges the society, particularly the government and health professionals, to reach out to retirees. Ding et al. (2016) believe that taking advantage of older adults retirement would be beneficial in terms of improving public health, especially in the coming years when their number is constantly growing. Moreover, activity and continuity theories of aging contend that older adults tend to keep their habits. As people believe that their roles and activities determines their identity, they will strive to maintain doing these things because their values and needs remain the same (Moody Sasser, 2015). In contrast with what is proposed by the disengagement theory, activity theory emphasizes that active people tend to be more satisfied with life. Same goes with the ... Anansi takes it upon himself then, to enter the home, drink some water and help himself to any food he pleases. He leaves the home, thanking the old man for his hospitality. The next day Anansi returns, and once more takes what water and food he desires, after the old man says nothing to him. Greed and it s risk towards yourself and those you care about, the exploitation of silence as permission, and the fact that revenge can be a dangerous thing to seek out are very complex lessons that would be next to impossible to explain to a child. • 11. Human Trafficking And Modern Day Slavery Essay Human Trafficking There is an ever growing problem that is coursing the world. Every day 3,287 people are sold or kidnapped, and are forced into slavery. (Human Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012) Most people do not realize that modern day slavery happens closer to home than they think. 14,000 17,500 is the estimated number of people trafficked into the United States each year. (Human Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012) The government has tried to reduce this problem as well as everyday people. Most everyone knows of this issue, but do not know how to help prevent the situation from happening. Human trafficking is the term used today for modern day slavery. (Hart 5) This modern day slavery is something that needs to be stopped. With all of the many causes of human trafficking, it becomes difficult for government agencies to prevent the act of modern day slavery. During the 1990s, the United States began to take steps to address human trafficking at home and abroad. ( Human Trafficking Agencies 6) Along with government agencies, everyday people need to become more aware in order to stop the ever growing problem. The dilemma that Hooks face with her family is; she states, My parents had not been delighted that I had been accepted and adamantly opposed my going so far from home (p. 161). And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn t be. And what it wouldn t be, it would. You see? Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. Furthermore, a desire for one to bend the world as they see fit, even when what they see fit isn t meant to be. There are many ways to read the novel Alice in Wonderland , it holds not one point of view, but many which can be interpreted in several ways. Analyzed from the critical viewpoint of physiological, readers may discover some interesting and remarkable surprises. The specific point I would like to discuss today are the physiological disorders this novel holds, such as the lunatic Red Queen who was wrapped whole with narcissistic behaviors and personality disorders, the unimaginable feeling of loneliness portrayed throughout Alice s adventure, and a dream anxiety disorder/psychosis or schizophrenia which represented itself as the actual story, viewed through the main character Alice. To begin with, there are many characters in Alice in Wonderland, who, despite the normality in their world, are rather odd; all whom which held a distinctive characteristic that revolved around all their actions, words, and surroundings. • 15. Sources of Inequity in Highly Tracked Courses Many students expressed the desire for study groups and more office hours. Currently, the teacher is holding office hours whenever possible, and although that is limited by the teachers availability, the formation of a study group is not. A school sponsored study group can be extremely beneficial for students who may otherwise feel awkward asking a classmate they just met if they would like to study together. One student stated, Most of what BHS would probably try to offer, most kids seek out on their own. It would be nice to set up a peer study group at a set location on days when teacher is not available if only for the students who don t have friends they feel they can rely on. That way no one feels excluded when it comes to studying, and those who typically cannot rely on teacher or friends have somewhere to go. From my own experience, all of my advanced courses in high school were filled with at least a few of my friends (perks of going to a smaller school), so finding help was not a huge issue. However, in college, study groups became my life outside the classroom. Last semester, I spent eight hours a week in study groups, and without them, I would have probably had to take a few courses again. • 16. Human Security And The Security Of A State When it comes to the security of a state, more traditional perspectives place security of the state above the security of its people. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Both the state and the people or co dependant and the safety of both is key to the progression of a state. These contradictory perspectives create tension between the state and the people making security decisions very difficult. The inability to determine a distinction between hard security, a more fundamental and more access based way of security. • 17. The Importance Of Integrity For A Business Means Being A... Entrepreneurial Opportunities One of the defining characteristics of an entrepreneur is integrity. Integrity plays into how others perceive you. Companies or individuals that display organic integrity attract respect and consumer loyalty (Forbat, pg 23, 2007). Integrity for a business means being a good corporate citizen. A company with good corporate citizenship has a strong set of ethics and is socially conscious. Corporate citizenship needs to be ingrained in modern craft breweries at their inception so their actions seem meaningful and organic as consumers tend to be suspicious of corporate agendas. Because more and more consumers are expecting high levels of integrity, corporate citizenship presents itself as a great entrepreneurial opportunity within the craft beer market. Being socially conscious does not necessarily translate to better sales but it is definitely in the company s best interest to keep an ethically sound public appearance. Consumers are quick to abandon socially corrupt companies and are hard to win back once the company s reputation is soiled. Mitigating bad public perception can be done by ensuring company ethics and social responsibility are met. This does consume resources and is considered a cost to the company but it is becoming increasingly necessary due to the wide spread access of information consumers have readily available. It is possible that if marketed heavily to ensure consumers are aware of a company s good deeds that being a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Similarities Between The Crucible And On The Waterfront The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is very similar to On the Waterfront, by Elia Kazan. The Crucible is a play about the witch hunt trials that occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. A primary purpose in the Gospel of Luke is to tell of the miraculous conception, birth, and childhood of Jesus Christ. • 28. Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best... Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis. Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views. Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life, ...
