been very much the hot topic in Silicon Valley and the broader tech scene. To those of us involved in
that scene it feels like an incredible momentum is building around the topic, with all kinds of
companies building A.I. into the core of their business. There has also been a rise in A.I. related
university courses which is seeing a wave of extremely bright new talent rolling into the employment
market. But this is not a simple case of confirmation bias interest in the topic has been on the rise
since mid 2014. The noise around the subject is only going to increase, and for the layman it is all
very confusing. Depending on what you read, it s easy to believe that we re headed for an apocalyptic
Skynet style obliteration at the hands of cold, calculating supercomputers, or that we re all going to
live forever as purely digital entities in some kind of cloud based artificial world. In other words,
either The Terminator or The Matrix are imminently about to become disturbingly

Circumcision, Abortion, And The Procedure Of Genital Cutting
Circumcision, possible for both males and females, implies the procedure of genital cutting. This
process is one of the oldest surgical procedures done in a variety of countries. However, circumcision
can not only be accepted for medical reasons but also tend to appear defining for one s religious,
cultural, as well as social lives. Thus, traditional circumcision is usually undertaken in worse
conditions than the traditional medical one. With recent research, numerous advantages for a
circumcised person s health have been proven. In particular, circumcision is now known to reduce the
risk of becoming infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), reduce the risk of penile
cancer as well as cervical cancer in women. Another medical benefit is the reduced risk of UTI (World
Health Organization, n.d.). Due to these benefits, more parents are opting for circumcision, for the
medical profits of the procedure. In addition, in spite of the found benefits of circumcision, the matter
has caused a range of legal and ethical issues that cannot be neglected. Still, from the overall
perspective, circumcision is known to be a rewarding procedure.
One popular form of circumcision in developing countries is female circumcision, which is also
known as female genital cutting or genital mutilation. This practice is a mostly seen for cultural
reasons in Africa and Asia (Nour, Mann, Falk, 2016). The procedure can appear in two types: excision
of the prepuce, with or without excision

How Does Romeo Change Throughout The Tempest
At the end of William Shakespeare s, The Tempest, the main protagonist is faced with the subject of
whether or not he can return to his dukedom of Milan a good leader. In the beginning, Prospero s
brother, Antonio, dethrones Prospero as he lost sight of the limit of the power he possessed. Becoming
obsessed and primarily focused on his studies of magic, Prosperous gave the management of his
domain to Antonio in order to keep the nation running. Antonio soon took on a larger role in the
government, breaking the screen between a proxy to Prospero and the true duke to Milan.
Overthrown, Prospero was cast away to a desert island where he would spend the next ten years
awaiting his return to Milan. While on the island Prosperous has a change of ... Show more content on

In Act V Scene 2, Prospero finally confronts all of the visitors of the island, from the King of Naples
to the boatswain and his crewmates. The two most important interactions that outline his change in
character are the ones between his brother Antonio, and the King of Naples, Alonso. Prospero takes
the initiative and forgives his brother, twice. He confronts Antonio, I do forgive thee, / Unnatural
though thou art (V.i.88 89) and, I do forgive / Thy rankest fault, all of them (V.i.151 152). Lines like
these show an overview of Prospero s new character at the end of the play. The first of change is
admitting the wrongs and moving on from the past, both of which Prospero does. Prospero s opinions
about Alonso is also decidedly different from the beginning of the play. When talking to Miranda,
Prospero refers to the Kind as being an enemy (I.ii.145) as well as Antonio composing A treacherous
army (I.ii.152) of both the forces of Milan and Naples. It is clear that Prospero initially had strong
feelings against the Naples family tree and kingdom. However, alongside the marriage of Ferdinand,
the prince of Naples, and Prospero s own daughter, relations between the two seem to have bettered by
the end. Prospero only treats Alonso with respect saying, I embrace thy body (V.i.120) and, Let me
embrace thine age, whose honor cannot / Be measured or confined (V.i.135 136). Prospero already
begins to deal with the politics of Milan has he ensures that the relationship between the two countries
is strong. These attempts show that Prosper is more disposed to his people and no longer just

Review Of Thomas Jefferson s Argumentative Essay
Thomas Jefferson wrote, Determine never to be idle... If is wonderful how much may be done if we
are always doing. I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The reasons I
believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make progress no matter
what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be accomplished if you do
nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore, I agree with Thomas
Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of result. When you re taking
action, no matter what for, it always opens up a new path. Whether or not your actions are related to
one another, you ll still achieve some goal. For example, if you

Pavlov s Classical Conditioning And Skinner s Operant...

Pavlov s Classical Conditioning and Skinner s Operant Conditioning Learning is a relatively
permanent change in behavior due to experience. There are two types of learning, associative learning
and cognitive learning. Associative learning occurs when a person or an animal forms a simple
association among various stimuli, behaviors, or both. It requires little to no awareness or thought.
Cognitive learning refers to understanding, knowing, and anticipating. Our subject today comes from
associative learning. There are two types of associative learning. Ivan Pavlov of Russia, discovered
classical conditioning, and Edward Thorndike discovered operant conditioning. Classical conditioning
is the type of associative learning based on what happens before we respond. It begins with a stimulus
that reliably triggers a behavior as a response. Classical conditioning occurs when you learn to
associate two different stimuli. There is no behavior involved. The first stimulus that you will
encounter is the unconditioned stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus essentially capable of
producing a response without any previous learning. That learning is called an unconditioned
response.
Pavlov conducted a study using dogs. He placed the dogs in a harness and placed a piece of food on
their tongue. A tube was placed to carry saliva from the dogs mouth to a lever measuring the saliva.
Pavlov believed that salivation was an automatic, inherited reflex.

Database Mangement and Retrieval System
Question 1.
Differentiate between database management system and information retrieval system by focusing on
their functionalities.
Database Management System (as known as DBMS) is a set of application that enable user to create,
edit, update, store and retrieve data from database files. By using DBMS, data in a database can be
added, deleted, changed, sorted and searched. DBMSs are usually used to manage employee
information of a big company, customer information and stock information. By using the DBMS,
there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of a DBMS is the same information can be

In information retrieval concept, metadiator is the one who helps to support the interaction between
the user and the information resource.
There are two main approaches to IR, which are statistical approach and semantic approach. In a
statistical approach, documents are analyzed and broken down into chunks of text and each word or
phrase is counted, weighted, and measured for relevance or importance. Meanwhile, semantic
approaches to IR use knowledge based techniques of retrieval the broadly rely on the syntactic,
lexical, sentential, discourse based, and pragmatic levels of knowledge understanding. In practice,
semantic approaches also apply some form of statistical analysis to improve the retrieval process.
Question 2.
Highlight the differences between data and information.
Data and information are related. Once data is processed, it calls information. But data is raw, plain
and unprocessed item and need to be processed. Data itself is useless until it is organized. Meanwhile,
information is a collection of data after it process. Generally, there are three main differences between
data and information such as their meaning, example and definition.
In the context of meaning, data is something plain, raw, unorganized facts that need to process to be
meaningful while information is a collection of many data that is meaningful to the user. For example,

Essay On Becoming An EMT
On a cold December night in a little red brick house sat a ten year old girl named Robin who was there
visiting her Great Grandmother Esther. Robin loved visiting her grandmother, because being at her
house was like stepping into a time capsule. The walls were filled with old black and white pictures
everywhere you looked and the heavenly aroma of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies filled the air.
On this particular night grandma Esther opened up about her nursing days and shared many heartfelt
stories with Robin. Her stories were filled with such emotion and passion they left a Robin thinking
her grandma was a superhero.
Robin left her visit with grandma Esther thinking she to wanted to get into the medical field and make
a difference in people s life just how grandma Esther did. As Robin grew up she began going to school

the helicopter as they loaded the patient up the propeller blades circling above their heads, dust in the

Months later Robin decided to leave her beloved ambulance and work in a small fifteen bed

Narrative Essay Hurricane
It was like we were a couple of high school lovers in heat, until the heat got too hot to handle. It was
soon after a major category four hurricane dealt us a glancing blow as it rolled up the east coast of
Florida that we decided to pack a little lunch and take a ride over to the beach. It had dropped fifteen
degrees after the storm and we had the whole beach to ourselves as I laid out a blanket and sat down to
enjoy the last few hours of sunlight. The wind was just cool enough to instigate some heavy petting
and it wasn t long before we were thoroughly hot and bothered. We were like two teens in heat, the

applause and hoots of appreciation just off in the dusk of the night, but I couldn t care less, and either
could she, as she pleaded for me to come deep inside me and others expletives that were clearly used
to motivate me further. She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me hard before breaking it

looked too as we watched my thick glistening cock piston in and out of her like we were going to

she blushed and pulled me down on top of her, when we all of a sudden we became shy, but not of the

The Theory Of Cognitive Theory
To certain extent, cognitivism could, nevertheless, be interpreted as a reaction to behaviourism.
Similar to behaviourism, both families of theorists have the mutual opinion of learning occurs when
stimulus and respond is connected. Yet instead of consequences determine, cognitivists emphasize the
automatic innate mechanistic prevailing process in human brain which undergo intuitive receiving,
organizing, storing and retrieving of information (Bigge, 1982). Cognition starts with sensory registers
which input data whereas perception helps convert their senses into conscious awareness which later
holistically kept in schema, or mental framework (Jordan, Stack and Carlile, 2009). The concept can
be explained by one of Piaget s main cognitive theory. Cognitivists tend to emphasis assimilation, the
process which schema is expanded. When the newly added information does not correspond to pre
existing schema, the process of rearranging schema, accommodation, takes place in order to eliminate
the contradicts within schema, enabling it to reach equilibration.
Besides, as opposed to Watson s postulation mentioned earlier, which suggests human mind frame is
passively shaped after the birth, Piaget (cited in Spelke, 1983) proposed that new borns, who are in
sensori motor period as classified in his developmental stages theory, possess inborn sense and are
able to detect certain structural relationships among their actions innately (cited in Pritchard, 2009).

The Military Installation Of America s 21st Century Wars
This is not what war is supposed to look like. That is my first thought upon arriving at MacDill Air
Force Base, Florida, on March 11, 2010. We stop at a small red roofed gatehouse with a single beamed
electric post. The quiet entrance of this base, with its red leafed palms, towering oaks, and rows of
citrus trees, set on a 6,000 acre peninsula, has the appearance of an idyllic beach resort. The wooden
gatehouse is neither substantial nor imposing. It does not hint of Fortress America nor would it pass
the minimum post 9/11 standards of perimeter security. Its diminutive scale is far out of proportion to
the consequential institutions on the other side. For me, the disparity is jarring. Small dark lettering at

Barry Allen In DC Comics
According to DC Comics the fastest character man alive is supposed to be Barry Allen, but there is
proof otherwise. In DC Comics there have been tests, races, and fights to prove that Godspeed is the
fastest character of all. Let s take a look at the evidence.
To start we need to look at the original speedster Jay Garrick. Jay was the first Flash and the only one
to not wear a mask. In his original comic appearance he was the only Flash in existence but when DC
Comics came out with Barry Allen he was sadly forgotten for a short time. After Barry started to gain
popularity they had to find someway to work Jay back into the main story. It was eventually shown
that he lived on an alternative world and that speedsters could cross back and forth to help each other (
Flash ). He is usually recognized by his signature metal winged helmet that has been around since the
golden age of comics. Since it has been shown in the comics that he is slower than Barry Allen he is
automatically out of the race.
Barry Allen is arguably the most widely known Flash. He is the first Flash to don the full red body suit
and first to wear a mask. Before Barry became The Flash he was a forensic scientist who was always
late. After a particle accelerator exploded and caused lightning to strike his lab Barry was sent into a

The only evidence of a link to the speed force is his accelerated muscle growth, which gives him super
strength instead of speed. As for his twin sister Iris West II, well she has more potential than anyone
else to be the fastest in the family. Thanks to her relation to Wally she is given a unique connection to
the speed force. Since wally is directly connected to the speed force it makes Iris II a living
embodiment of it. She has only recently taken up the role of Impulse but in the future she will most
likely be seen as the fastest in the family and maybe the first woman to take the mantle of The Flash

Coming Of Age In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
During the lectures and readings that we have done on coming of age, I have learned that coming of
age is a lot like a milestone in life. It happens when we mature or become more knowledgeable and it
can happen no matter what age we are. The story, Boys and Girls , by Alice Munro, shows us the
perfect example of coming of age and is also a story that left a lasting impression on me because of it
feminist aspect of a girl s life. Coming of age is our minds and bodies evolving into a more mature
person. It isn t based off age, but more of experience and knowledge. Most of the time, coming of age
is more profound in the young due to the transition from childhood to adulthood. During this
transition, they have their first experience of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Psychology Course And Remembered About The Cerebral...
I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological
psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory
information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres
and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation
that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the
brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the
overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect
certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of
the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both
sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical
seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons
have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures.
After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of
each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual
observer they disconnection isn t obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere

This is a very poignant thing for a man like Behrani to wish for due to the status he once had and the

Behrani s reminiscent nature, regarding his old life of luxury and status, continuously. Although
Behrani would like to portray that he can appear as a man that would live a life for the living of it, he
is very far from it. Amir belittles the blue collar work he has begun to slow his family spending and
keep his family happy. These jobs include working in a tomato cannery, an auto wash, a furniture

(Dubus 48). Behrani looked down on these blue collar positions and did not feel proud of the jobs he
had taken. He believed that there was no dignity attached to these jobs, as they were jobs for people
that were lesser (or younger) than him. He even professes that God would help him return to the
dignity that he once had, dignity that he believed he would never gain back. In addition to this
belittlement, he also continuously apologizes to his family for their living conditions, even though
they are by far above standard. He is consistently self conscious regarding his appearance and what
others view of his family and his home. He assumes

Women and Families of Puritan Society Essay
Woman and family roles are considerably different today than they were back in Puritan times.
Puritans thought that the public s foundation rested on the little commonwealth , and not merely on the
individual. The little commonwealth meant that a father s rule over his family mirrored God s rule
over creation or a king over his subjects. John Winthrop believed that a true wife thought of herself in
[weakness] to her husband s authority. As ludicrous as this idea may appeal to women and others in
today s society, this idea was truly necessary for colonies to be able to thrive and maintain social
order. Marriage in Puritan society was more of a contract than a religious sacrament. Daughters were

Although women did have many responsibilities at home they were limited to these duties, and their
status in New England society was not very insignificant. During this time women were expected to
be seen and not heard. Like many people in society, women were not permitted to vote and had no
right to question church policy. Women who tried to receive some power were exiled, like Anne
Hutchinson, or in the late 1600s were suspected of witchcraft. To some degree, women in New
England did enjoy better legal protections than the women of England. For example, New England
women had more of a chance to break off unsuccessful marriages. Nevertheless, they endured the
same legal injustices as Englishwomen. Unless a husband agreed to a prenuptial agreement giving her
power of land she already possessed, a wife had no property rights separate of her husband. Also, a
widow was only allowed 1/3 of her husband s assets if he died without heirs or instructed so in a will.
Even though the position of women may be seen as unfair or unacceptable today it was needed to keep
order in Puritan society. The standard of obedience placed upon women and others such as Native
Americans and Africans permitted some chosen few of the colonies to organize a set of rules and
structuralize the colonies so that they maybe able to progress. Without this progress colonies would
not have been able to form into the country it is today. Not to mention, because men have held

Satire In Animal Farm
Compare how George Orwell and the Cartoonist (image below) utilise satire to communicate social
issues and ideas. Both Animal Farm by George Orwell and the Cartoon utilize satire to communicate
social issues and ideas extremely effectively. This is demonstrated by how they represent the rise and
balance of power in society. The effect is achieved by the use of symbolism to represent different
societal issues that occur in different historical settings. They both also used satire to demonstrate
language and visual techniques to portray key issues in society. Firstly, Animal Farm and the Cartoon
demonstrate the rise and balance of power in society through the use of symbolism. To utilize satire
effectively George Orwell used symbolism in Animal Farm to shows how power can change people.
This is shown by the quote He carried a whip in his trotter. The whip is the symbol of power as the
whip in the beginning of the novel is shown as Jones s control over the animals. Later in the novel
when Napoleon is using the whip again, it demonstrates to the audience how the power that he had at
Animal Farm eventually changed him. The symbolism of the whip demonstrated how he began to
abuse the power he had acquired to control the other animals. This abuse of power is a societal issue
that can relate to many different historical settings, which is why Animal Farm is so relevant to this
era. George Orwell also used the symbolism of animals to give a clear and accurate representation of
the balance of power in society without directly talking about a real life historical events which is a
clear example of satire. The method that George Orwell used to represent his ideas were also shown in
the Cartoon. The Cartoonist used symbolism of the microphone, podium and suit to demonstrate the
politician who is supposed to be leading his people just like how Napoleon was leading the animals.
The Cartoonist also used the symbolism of the people holding the government up to demonstrate how
there is a balance of power. If the people were not standing on the plank than the government would
fall. This demonstrates that the government only has power over the people because the people allow
them to which is a social issue that

Tax Free Acquisition
In General:
Tax free acquisition can be treated as corporation s reorganization. It is very similar to taxable
acquisition; the different between tax free acquisitions and taxable acquisitions is how buyer pays for
the acquisition to seller. During the acquisition buyer should use a significant amount of its stock to
pay seller.
Qualifications:
However, there is some qualifications need to be meet to qualify for the tax free acquisition.
According to the IRC section 368:
Continuity of ownership interest At least 50% of the consideration is acquirer stock (although
transactions with as little as 40% stock consideration have qualified for tax free treatment).
Continuity of business enterprise The acquirer must either continue the target s historical business or
use a significant portion of the target s assets in an existing business for 2 years after the transaction.
Valid business purpose The transaction must serve a valid business purpose beyond tax avoidance.
Step transaction doctrine The transaction cannot be part of a larger plan that, taken in its entirety,
would constitute a taxable acquisition. 1
However, tax free acquisition is not fully tax free for the target company; Seller should treat the gain
from the acquisition as a deferred gain, so the tax for seller is just deferred not tax free.
Tax effects: During the acquisition every shareholders will have different tax effects.

Argumentative Essay On Body Image
Under society s customs for decades, young women have found themselves immersed in the pressure
and anticipation to have exemplary bodies. Nearly every young woman prefers to be slim, have a
perfectly shaped body, that is beautified by applying pounds of makeup to their face but does not
appear ridiculously overdone. Who s responsible for these measures imposed on young women? When
a young girl picks up the model on the cover of Vogue being called flawless, naturally it s easy for her
to then aspire to be a real life imitation of the that model. These companies produce magazine covers
shown with girls images daily. As if keeping the perfect body wasn t hard enough, our culture also
forces girls into the forever expanding world of composition, however, body image is a surging
subject for young girls. Advertisements and pictures of lean female models are all over. Young women
are measured and perplexed by their physical appearances with attire intended to raise their physical
structures; social media, magazines, the society, marketing campaigns, advertisements, and the fashion
gurus add to a strand of excellence.
The fashion industry is a major object of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on
more than average height and svelte women. Established on a survey partaken by 13 to 17 year old in
the United States, 90% felt intimidated by trends and media to be sleek, with more than 60% routinely
evaluated themselves to supermodels, whilst 46% will endeavor to

Ms Office vs Google Docs
Microsoft Office Google Docs
Once upon a time, choices were easier. If you wanted software to support word processing,
spreadsheets, and presentations for your organization, traditional installed office software like
Microsoft Office was the almost ever present choice.
Over the past couple of weeks I have been testing and comparing Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
I have been analyzing the functionality, user friendliness, start up cost, maintenance cost, and few of
the options that each provides. I have used both types in a personal as well as in a business setting.
The answer to the question of which of these tools is likely to work best for you and your company is
not a clear black and white one? You may find that one is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Microsoft releases too many frequent updates that require IT department intervention.
Google docs offer a great advantage when it comes down to upgrade and back up tools all users
automatically get any feature upgrades to the software, and you won t have to do much of anything to
keep your team up and running. Upgrades are generally incremental, so as to not require much new
training for your users.
Conclusion
Online office software isn t likely to completely replace traditional installed office software any time
soon. In fact, it s unlikely to make sense to switch an office full of happy Microsoft Office users
completely over to an online office suite, given Microsoft s affordable nonprofit pricing.
The new web apps feature in Office 2010bring the Microsoft Office suite considerably closer to the
remote access and collaboration features of a tool like Google Docs.
For small or new organizations, though, the collaboration features and lack of maintenance of an
online suite can be a compelling reason to move to online only apps. In fact, the collaboration tools
can be useful to many. A number of organizations rely on Microsoft Office for their day to day work,
but use one of the online tools for documents that require a lot of input from a number of different
people.
Late in 2010, Microsoft released it Office 365, which is an online application that may one day
compete with Google Docs. They have introduced

Social Injustice In Antigone
In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public?
As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many
social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight
for their rights, but not without considering the consequences.
Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as
seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her
plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you
come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy
during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in
the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree without
considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating
Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness:
your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity
and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of
consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment when protesting
Creon s decree.

Much Ado About Noting
Blindness is only a disability to those that are mentally eyeless. Shakespeare being a man of keen
mental sight, he has had the ability to portray mental blindness in several of his plays. Being one of
the best writers, he is actively able to capture the four elements of a well made play being peripetiea,
denouement, timely entrances and exits and incredibly gripping scene entrances and conclusions.
Having written 38 plays with two original plots, Shakespeare expresses his themes through passionate
romance, sorrow filled tragedy, inviting history and hilarious comedy. One of his most famous
comedies is the play called, Much Ado About Nothing. In this play the comedic aspects greatly
emphasize the important theme of self knowledge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this hand I love thee. They continues to love each other by having the desire to get married and
following through with this desire. Also, in matters not concerning directly to them they also
demonstrate self knowledge. When Hero is shammed at her own wedding, Beatrice and Benedict are
the only two who seem to believe that she has been wronged. Benedict even verbalizes this when he
states while talking with Beatrice, Surely I do believe your fair cousin is wronged. In continuation,
both characters are allowed to be made aware of Hero s false death along with knowing that Claudio s
second bride is Hero herself for they were a part of the conspiracy. These are examples of self
knowledge because they are able to perceive reality for what it truly is rather than at face value. In
contrast to Beatrice and Benedict, characters Claudio and Don Pedro do not possess self knowledge.
Because of this they are unable to see the things for what they are. By definition, vanity is excessive
pride in your own character or abilities. Due to Claudio and Don Pedro s vanity, they are unable to
acquire self knowledge. These men demonstrate their vanity in multiple ways. One way they do this is
by refusing to admit to having any flaws. They prove this when they accuse, judge, condemn and even

Defense Mechanisms That The Child Uses Essay
Part A: Answer any 3 of the following questions: 1) Discuss 2 defense mechanisms that the child uses,
and whether each appears to be adaptive or maladaptive. Susana is in denial of her current situation
and uses crying and hostile behavior as her way of coping. As mentioned by Robbins et al. (2011),
denial is seen as declining to believe or perceive reality. Susana is in denial of her current situation and
tries to remain as the active child she used to be by interacting with her mother Jacquie as much as she
can. A reason why Susana is in denial of her situation is because she is often eager, has hope, and is
happy to see her mother Jacquie when she gets home from work despite her lack of presence as a
nurturing mother. Susana remains optimistic that Jacquie will be there for her and play with her when
she gets home. In this case Susana is trying to adapt to her environment as much as she can and her
efforts show that Susana is a very strong child. In addition, being in denial of her current situation
appears to be adaptive to Susana because she remains hopeful of her situation getting better despite of
the lack of motherly love or lack of attention from her mother Jacquie. Another defense mechanism
that can fit into the previous scenario is reaction formation . Although, Susana is not given the
attention and proper care she needs she is being happy about her current situation by replacing all the
negativity of not socializing with others as much, not having her mother

The Representation Of Refugees Through A Political And...
Refugees are a prominent group of people in today s society. A refugee is someone who is outside his
or her country of origin and is at risk of being persecuted if he or she returns . The Convention
Relating to the Status of Refugees establishes the basic human rights to which refugees are entitled
wherever they are (Dauvergne, 2012, p. 1445). Refugees are talked about and handled in certain ways
within different discourses. Foucault s defines discourse as the rules and practices that produce
meaningful statements about a topic at a particular historical moment. He argues that it constricts the
topic . (Hall, 1997, p.44). This essay will analyse the representation of refugees through a political and
media discourse. A political discourse on refugees is explored in Rocco Fazzari and Denis Carnahan s
video Stop the Boats (with cash) Tony . The video highlights the political language for talking about
refugees and the ways in which they are viewed by the Australian government. In comparison the
media discourse will be examined through Nilufer Demir s (2015) photograph of a drowned Syrian
child refugee. The image stresses the pivotal role the media plays in constructing and circulating
meanings (Hightower, 2014, p.336). By analysing refugees through these two texts, an understanding
of the different representation and meanings produced by separate discourses on the same topic can be
developed.
A political discourse allows the government s policies on refugees and the

How Does Dawkins Interpret God

meaning of the words in the Bible, we can see God differently unlike Dawkins s perspective. I would
like to say that Dawkins interpret God in the only one side. Since Dawkins see God as the side of

Traveling throguh the Dark by William Stafford
Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford is essentially a short poem that was written based on
personal experience. The poem starts out with an unnamed, anonymous character which is also the
narrator of the poem as he tells of a haunting but sad memory in first person. The story begins by
telling of how a cautious traveler in the night comes across a dying deer but with an unborn child
waiting to be born. What the traveler chooses to do with the deer and her child is a conflict that will
decide their fate. The poem is a sentimental poem that is both a memory from the past and a lesson of
morals by Stafford that draws the reader in and makes them ponder; what would I do if I were in this
situation? Being written in first person, Stafford puts the reader into the traveler s position and by this,
the reader can experience what is happening as if it were them in the situation.
The short poem begins with a traveler driving along a narrow road by the Wilson River in Oregon,
United States. He stumbles upon a dead doe on the road and with good intentions, tries to move it out
of the way for safe travel of future drivers. He realises that the doe is pregnant with an unborn child
and this is where the traveler comes into internal conflict with himself. He hesitates with the choices
of helping other drivers by tossing the doe with an unborn fawn into the water or saving it as if he
knew how to. In the end, the traveler does not save the doe and tosses it into the river.

Ronald Reagan on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day Pointe Du...
Before I get to the analysis portion of this assignment, the speech I have decided to go with is former
President Ronald Reagan s speech on the 40th Anniversary of D Day that was delivered at Pointe du
Hoc, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1984. This is the speech I wanted to use for my analytical paper
because I have always been extremely interested in World War II and anything affiliated with it. Also,
I actually had two grandfathers that served in the Philippines fighting alongside American soldiers as
guerilla fighters against the Japanese invaders during the war. President Reagan was the one who
presented the speech but to my slight disappointment, he did not actually prepare it himself. The
speech was actually written by Peggy Noonan, the primary speechwriter and special assistant to
President Reagan. After reading and watching footage of the speech, I found it to be a great
collaboration between the speaker and the writer. President Reagan s 40th Anniversary of D Day
speech was given exactly forty years after D Day, the Normandy beach landings that took place on
June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. More specifically, he delivered the speech at Pointe du Hoc,
Normandy, France where United States Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to take out German artillery
emplacements that were raining shells on Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword beach where other
Allied forces were landing. Despite the German artillery not being there once they got to the top, the

Gender Roles In Gilda
Gilda (1946, Charles Vidor) is a story about two ex lovers that reunite when his employer marries the
girl he once dated. In this film, there s a presence of power. Not only between gender, but between
class. One of the first examples in the scene given is the class and power of the two men, Ballin
Mundson and Johnny Farrell. The second example is Gilda verse the boys. While Johnny and
Mundson have a battle of authority and status. Gilda battles being dehumanized and objectified. The
only trick is she knows how to spin in and use it to her advantage giving her an upper hand. Power is
something they all want it is never distributed evenly, yet Gilda knows how to get it. In the boudoir
scene, there are indications that there is about to be a change the dynamic. The first shot of this
sequence shows the lobby to Munson s home. Mundson is a man of extravagance. There are marble
stairs, roman like pillars, and serval floors. For this to be a single man s home, it has many feminine
qualities. The room has fresh flowers on the table, spirals patterns of the rails of the stairs, and soft
romantic lighting. All the objects in this room are staged and untouched. Much like how Gilda is. ...

Allegorical Meanings of LOTF.
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is basically represented by three big allegories as a whole;
Political, Historical, and Religious. The allegorical meaning for the novel differs from each category
of allegory. For political, later in the book, there are two different clashing tribes representing a

is that the island is the Garden of Eden and the boys are Adam and Eve. For each category of the three
different types of allegories, the meaning of the book, Lord of The Flies, as a whole differs. The

The first thing Ralph does when he gets to the island is take off his clothes and take a bath in the
lagoon. Ralph inspected the whole thirty yards carefully and then plunged in. The water was warmer
than his blood and he might have been swimming in a huge bath. (Golding, 12) This gesture relates to
the act of Baptism and the innocence of Adam and Eve. Later in the book, the boys become more
savage than civilised trying to find the beast, or snake thing when it is really just hiding inside of
them. This is just like how Adam and Eve were fooled by the satan that disguised himself as a serpent.
The Devil figure, or the Satan is another religious allegory hidden in Lord of The Flies. It is actually
hidden right in the title. Lord of the Flies in hebrew means Beelzebub which is another name for Satan
or Devil. This name is from the Canaanite Baal which means Lord and so he is known for lord of the
flies. To expand even more, the boys on the island are described with fly like behaviors and actions.
He s Buzzed off (Golding, 55) Different to the Devil Figure, the christ figure is represented by Simon,
in LOTF. Simon is the Christ figure because of his good morals, bravery, and

Summary Of Kelly s Story
1.) After reading Kelly s story I researched different skin infections that may cause a rash on a person.
Four different infections I found were Scabies, Impetigo, also known as Indian Fire, Cellulitis, and
Folliculitis (7). Scabies is a contagious rash caused by the itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei (6). Scabies is a
rash that produces red itchy bumps (6). Impetigo is caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus
bacteria (5). Impetigo is extremely contagious and is spread by close contact (5). Cellulitis can be
caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus (4). Cellulitis is not contagious but causes a red heated
rash in the area of infection (4). Lastly, Folliculitis was listed as a rash causing infection. Folliculitis is
a skin infection that causes a rash around the hair follicles that look like red pimples (3). Although it
can be caused by certain bacteria, causing damage to the hair follicles can cause this infection (8). The
normal bacteria that causes Folliculitis is Staphylococcus aureus (3).
2.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common cause for Folliculitis is Staphylococcus aureus (3). The definition of Folliculitis is
an inflammation of the hair follicle on the body (8). This is the diagnoses I came up with because after
shaving Kelly noticed the rash on her legs. Folliculitis is known to occur when there is damage to the
hair follicle. Shaving can cause hair follicle damage in return can cause Folliculitis

American Sniper Report
Change is difficult and after being in the Navy for ten years, leaving is a huge adjustment to make.
Chris Kyle finishes his fourth and last tour in Sadr City before leaving the Navy to be with his wife
and two young children. After returning from war, Chris founded a company called Craft International
where they train military and police units. Evaluating how Chris is affected by four tours in Iraq,
visualizing Sadr City, where Chris is stationed on his last tour, and questioning why Chris left the
Navy is simple since Chris Kyle wrote a very entertaining novel called American Sniper.
Reading American Sniper, I evaluate how Chris deals with killing the insurgents and how Chris is
affected by four tours in Iraq. Chris has 160 confirmed kills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sadr City is the last city where Chris is stationed in Iraq. The book talks about the local army building
a large wall to keep the insurgents out. I picture a large fifteen foot wall made out of thick, heavy
cement blocks that are insuperable. I also visualize a large crane that puts those large blocks in place.
There are about thirty tall buildings that are empty from civilians fleeing the city from the insurgents.
A sewage river on the edge of town made the city smell awful: It stunk worse than Iraq usually stunk
(Kyle 345). I also visualize what it looks like when Chris is shot by the insurgents in Iraq. Chris is
shot once in the head and once in the back, but both shots were stopped by the armor he wore. I
picture the first shot hitting his helmet and pushing it back and nearly off his head. The force of the
gunshot is so great that he is knocked off his feet and lying on the ground. I see Chris get up and start
walking on the dirt road back to the Humvee. While walking to the Humvee Chris gets shot in the
back and I picture the dent in his body armor that stopped the bullet from penetrating his back. I
visualize how Sadr City appears and what Chris looks like after being shot in

Indus River Valley And Nubia Similarities
A Short Comparative Essay of The Indus River Valley and Nubia The Indus River Valley (Chapter 1)
and Nubia (Chapter 2) have some similarities, and quite a few differences. They are similar in aspects
such as agriculture, and trade, while different in things such as culture. Some similarities and
differences are very apparent, while others, not so much. Indus River Valley agriculture was primarily
based on hunting and gathering food, but later on it changed to mainly farming. They also did things
such as domesticate animals. This is very similar to Nubia s agriculture. They also were hunters, but
later changed to primarily farming. Trade in The Indus River Valley consisted of, fruit, textiles,
statues, metals, meats, and other resources.

St. Johns Lutheran Church
For as long as I can remember, St. Johns Lutheran Church has been like a second home. It is the
church where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion and affirmed my faith through
confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member of St. Johns.
As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I had a strong
interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth groups, participated in
WELCA, served on the church council and it seemed there wasn t a task I would not take on. Many
people, myself included, anticipated the next logical stop on my journey would be seminary.
But I didn t feel or hear the call at the time.
Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a simple
but powerful statement, We are called to make disciples, not members. That statement would lead me
to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me
to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and
authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church
and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ like life required a different way of
thinking, a different way of living.
The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. It was a time of skepticism
about the work of the church and how much time

My Papa s Waltz Mood
My Papa s Waltz ,a poem written by Theodore Roethke, is about a father whose despairing dance
moves terrify the son. Roethke uses the connotation of words to create an unruly mood. A
demonstration of Roethke s use word connotation to convey a mood is present on the following lines.
We romped until the pans / Slid from the kitchen shelf; (5 6). These lines create an unruly mood
because they consist of words that have strong negative connotation. One of these words is romped.
Romped has a negative connotation that means to basically move around in a chaotic manner. This
gave of a disorderly mood because the context makes it sound like they danced chaotically and
violently. Also the fact that their dancing made the pans slide kitchen shelf

Summary Of Ma Joad In The Grapes Of Wrath
Ma Joad is the driving force. She is determined to get to California, because she believes that life will
be better in California. Because she is so keen on getting to California, she often tries to take the
power of the family, and take the man s job. Ma believes that the family will get to California only
with the desire of everyone involved, and only if everyone participates in making it happen. She keeps
motivation strong throughout the entire book. Even though she often confines herself to gender roles,
she is often able to take power to motivate the group to move on, even in the toughest situations.
Occasionally when the Joads and company are not motivated to do something Ma will step up and
take control of the group, even though that is Pa s role. In one case she grabbed a jackhammer, and the
eyes of the whole family shifted back to Ma. She was the power. She had taken control (169).
Although Ma taking power like this is frightening to the Joads, it is the only way that the Joads are
able to make it to California together. In this case Ma is opposing moving on, but the words of the
group encourage Ma to look at the other side and she later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

situations. Maybe a person at an office has an innovative idea for an effective way to get things done,

Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto
In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and
practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are
the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for
veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White
veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time
of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out
and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less
likely than Whites to own houses.

To those of us involved in that scene it feels like an incredible momentum is building around the topic, with all kinds of companies building A.I. into the core of their business. There has also been a rise in A.I. related university courses which is seeing a wave of extremely bright new talent rolling into the employment market. But this is not a simple case of confirmation bias interest in the topic has been on the rise since mid 2014. The noise around the subject is only going to increase, and for the layman it is all very confusing. Depending on what you read, it s easy to believe that we re headed for an apocalyptic Skynet style obliteration at the hands of cold, calculating supercomputers, or that we re all going to live forever as purely digital entities in some kind of cloud based artificial world. • 3. Circumcision, Abortion, And The Procedure Of Genital Cutting Circumcision, possible for both males and females, implies the procedure of genital cutting. This process is one of the oldest surgical procedures done in a variety of countries. However, circumcision can not only be accepted for medical reasons but also tend to appear defining for one s religious, cultural, as well as social lives. Thus, traditional circumcision is usually undertaken in worse conditions than the traditional medical one. With recent research, numerous advantages for a circumcised person s health have been proven. In particular, circumcision is now known to reduce the risk of becoming infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), reduce the risk of penile cancer as well as cervical cancer in women. Another medical benefit is the reduced risk of UTI (World Health Organization, n.d.). Due to these benefits, more parents are opting for circumcision, for the medical profits of the procedure. In addition, in spite of the found benefits of circumcision, the matter has caused a range of legal and ethical issues that cannot be neglected. Still, from the overall perspective, circumcision is known to be a rewarding procedure. One popular form of circumcision in developing countries is female circumcision, which is also known as female genital cutting or genital mutilation. This practice is a mostly seen for cultural reasons in Africa and Asia (Nour, Mann, Falk, 2016). The procedure can appear in two types: excision of the prepuce, with or without excision ... He confronts Antonio, I do forgive thee, / Unnatural though thou art (V.i.88 89) and, I do forgive / Thy rankest fault, all of them (V.i.151 152). Lines like these show an overview of Prospero s new character at the end of the play. The first of change is admitting the wrongs and moving on from the past, both of which Prospero does. Prospero s opinions about Alonso is also decidedly different from the beginning of the play. When talking to Miranda, Prospero refers to the Kind as being an enemy (I.ii.145) as well as Antonio composing A treacherous army (I.ii.152) of both the forces of Milan and Naples. It is clear that Prospero initially had strong feelings against the Naples family tree and kingdom. However, alongside the marriage of Ferdinand, the prince of Naples, and Prospero s own daughter, relations between the two seem to have bettered by the end. Prospero only treats Alonso with respect saying, I embrace thy body (V.i.120) and, Let me embrace thine age, whose honor cannot / Be measured or confined (V.i.135 136). Prospero already begins to deal with the politics of Milan has he ensures that the relationship between the two countries is strong. • 5. Review Of Thomas Jefferson s Argumentative Essay Thomas Jefferson wrote, Determine never to be idle... If is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing. I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The reasons I believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make progress no matter what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be accomplished if you do nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore, I agree with Thomas Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of result. TaSheena Moore 2/4/2016 PSY 110 Pavlov s Classical Conditioning and Skinner s Operant Conditioning Learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior due to experience. There are two types of learning, associative learning and cognitive learning. Associative learning occurs when a person or an animal forms a simple association among various stimuli, behaviors, or both. It requires little to no awareness or thought. Cognitive learning refers to understanding, knowing, and anticipating. Our subject today comes from associative learning. There are two types of associative learning. Ivan Pavlov of Russia, discovered classical conditioning, and Edward Thorndike discovered operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is the type of associative learning based on what happens before we respond. It begins with a stimulus that reliably triggers a behavior as a response. Classical conditioning occurs when you learn to associate two different stimuli. There is no behavior involved. The first stimulus that you will encounter is the unconditioned stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus essentially capable of producing a response without any previous learning. That learning is called an unconditioned response. Pavlov conducted a study using dogs. He placed the dogs in a harness and placed a piece of food on their tongue. A tube was placed to carry saliva from the dogs mouth to a lever measuring the saliva. Pavlov believed that salivation was an automatic, inherited reflex. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Theory Of Cognitive Theory To certain extent, cognitivism could, nevertheless, be interpreted as a reaction to behaviourism. Similar to behaviourism, both families of theorists have the mutual opinion of learning occurs when stimulus and respond is connected. Yet instead of consequences determine, cognitivists emphasize the automatic innate mechanistic prevailing process in human brain which undergo intuitive receiving, organizing, storing and retrieving of information (Bigge, 1982). Cognition starts with sensory registers which input data whereas perception helps convert their senses into conscious awareness which later holistically kept in schema, or mental framework (Jordan, Stack and Carlile, 2009). The concept can be explained by one of Piaget s main cognitive theory. Cognitivists tend to emphasis assimilation, the process which schema is expanded. When the newly added information does not correspond to pre existing schema, the process of rearranging schema, accommodation, takes place in order to eliminate the contradicts within schema, enabling it to reach equilibration. Besides, as opposed to Watson s postulation mentioned earlier, which suggests human mind frame is passively shaped after the birth, Piaget (cited in Spelke, 1983) proposed that new borns, who are in sensori motor period as classified in his developmental stages theory, possess inborn sense and are able to detect certain structural relationships among their actions innately (cited in Pritchard, 2009). • 12. Barry Allen In DC Comics According to DC Comics the fastest character man alive is supposed to be Barry Allen, but there is proof otherwise. In DC Comics there have been tests, races, and fights to prove that Godspeed is the fastest character of all. Let s take a look at the evidence. To start we need to look at the original speedster Jay Garrick. Jay was the first Flash and the only one to not wear a mask. In his original comic appearance he was the only Flash in existence but when DC Comics came out with Barry Allen he was sadly forgotten for a short time. After Barry started to gain popularity they had to find someway to work Jay back into the main story. It was eventually shown that he lived on an alternative world and that speedsters could cross back and forth to help each other ( Flash ). He is usually recognized by his signature metal winged helmet that has been around since the golden age of comics. Since it has been shown in the comics that he is slower than Barry Allen he is automatically out of the race. Barry Allen is arguably the most widely known Flash. I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures. After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. Women who tried to receive some power were exiled, like Anne Hutchinson, or in the late 1600s were suspected of witchcraft. To some degree, women in New England did enjoy better legal protections than the women of England. For example, New England women had more of a chance to break off unsuccessful marriages. • 17. Satire In Animal Farm Compare how George Orwell and the Cartoonist (image below) utilise satire to communicate social issues and ideas. Both Animal Farm by George Orwell and the Cartoon utilize satire to communicate social issues and ideas extremely effectively. This is demonstrated by how they represent the rise and balance of power in society. The effect is achieved by the use of symbolism to represent different societal issues that occur in different historical settings. They both also used satire to demonstrate language and visual techniques to portray key issues in society. Firstly, Animal Farm and the Cartoon demonstrate the rise and balance of power in society through the use of symbolism. To utilize satire effectively George Orwell used symbolism in Animal Farm to shows how power can change people. This is shown by the quote He carried a whip in his trotter. The whip is the symbol of power as the whip in the beginning of the novel is shown as Jones s control over the animals. Later in the novel when Napoleon is using the whip again, it demonstrates to the audience how the power that he had at Animal Farm eventually changed him. The symbolism of the whip demonstrated how he began to abuse the power he had acquired to control the other animals. This abuse of power is a societal issue that can relate to many different historical settings, which is why Animal Farm is so relevant to this era. George Orwell also used the symbolism of animals to give a clear and accurate representation of the balance of power in society without directly talking about a real life historical events which is a clear example of satire. The method that George Orwell used to represent his ideas were also shown in the Cartoon. The Cartoonist used symbolism of the microphone, podium and suit to demonstrate the politician who is supposed to be leading his people just like how Napoleon was leading the animals. The Cartoonist also used the symbolism of the people holding the government up to demonstrate how there is a balance of power. • 24. Social Injustice In Antigone In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public? As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight for their rights, but not without considering the consequences. Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree without considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment when protesting Creon s decree. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Defense Mechanisms That The Child Uses Essay Part A: Answer any 3 of the following questions: 1) Discuss 2 defense mechanisms that the child uses, and whether each appears to be adaptive or maladaptive. Susana is in denial of her current situation and uses crying and hostile behavior as her way of coping. As mentioned by Robbins et al. (2011), denial is seen as declining to believe or perceive reality. Susana is in denial of her current situation and tries to remain as the active child she used to be by interacting with her mother Jacquie as much as she can. A reason why Susana is in denial of her situation is because she is often eager, has hope, and is happy to see her mother Jacquie when she gets home from work despite her lack of presence as a nurturing mother. Susana remains optimistic that Jacquie will be there for her and play with her when she gets home. In this case Susana is trying to adapt to her environment as much as she can and her efforts show that Susana is a very strong child. In addition, being in denial of her current situation appears to be adaptive to Susana because she remains hopeful of her situation getting better despite of the lack of motherly love or lack of attention from her mother Jacquie. Another defense mechanism that can fit into the previous scenario is reaction formation . Although, Susana is not given the attention and proper care she needs she is being happy about her current situation by replacing all the negativity of not socializing with others as much, not having her mother ... A refugee is someone who is outside his or her country of origin and is at risk of being persecuted if he or she returns . The Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees establishes the basic human rights to which refugees are entitled wherever they are (Dauvergne, 2012, p. 1445). Refugees are talked about and handled in certain ways within different discourses. Foucault s defines discourse as the rules and practices that produce meaningful statements about a topic at a particular historical moment. He argues that it constricts the topic . (Hall, 1997, p.44). This essay will analyse the representation of refugees through a political and media discourse. A political discourse on refugees is explored in Rocco Fazzari and Denis Carnahan s video Stop the Boats (with cash) Tony . The video highlights the political language for talking about refugees and the ways in which they are viewed by the Australian government. In comparison the media discourse will be examined through Nilufer Demir s (2015) photograph of a drowned Syrian child refugee. The image stresses the pivotal role the media plays in constructing and circulating meanings (Hightower, 2014, p.336). By analysing refugees through these two texts, an understanding of the different representation and meanings produced by separate discourses on the same topic can be developed. • 35. Traveling throguh the Dark by William Stafford Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford is essentially a short poem that was written based on personal experience. The poem starts out with an unnamed, anonymous character which is also the narrator of the poem as he tells of a haunting but sad memory in first person. The story begins by telling of how a cautious traveler in the night comes across a dying deer but with an unborn child waiting to be born. What the traveler chooses to do with the deer and her child is a conflict that will decide their fate. The poem is a sentimental poem that is both a memory from the past and a lesson of morals by Stafford that draws the reader in and makes them ponder; what would I do if I were in this situation? Being written in first person, Stafford puts the reader into the traveler s position and by this, the reader can experience what is happening as if it were them in the situation. The short poem begins with a traveler driving along a narrow road by the Wilson River in Oregon, United States. He stumbles upon a dead doe on the road and with good intentions, tries to move it out of the way for safe travel of future drivers. He realises that the doe is pregnant with an unborn child and this is where the traveler comes into internal conflict with himself. He hesitates with the choices of helping other drivers by tossing the doe with an unborn fawn into the water or saving it as if he knew how to. In the end, the traveler does not save the doe and tosses it into the river. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the speech I wanted to use for my analytical paper because I have always been extremely interested in World War II and anything affiliated with it. Also, I actually had two grandfathers that served in the Philippines fighting alongside American soldiers as guerilla fighters against the Japanese invaders during the war. President Reagan was the one who presented the speech but to my slight disappointment, he did not actually prepare it himself. The speech was actually written by Peggy Noonan, the primary speechwriter and special assistant to President Reagan. President Reagan s 40th Anniversary of D Day speech was given exactly forty years after D Day, the Normandy beach landings that took place on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. More specifically, he delivered the speech at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy, France where United States Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to take out German artillery emplacements that were raining shells on Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword beach where other Allied forces were landing.
