Listermann s Brewing Company Essay
Founded in 1991 by Dan and Sue Listermann, Listermann s Brewing Company is a family run
microbrewery located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Known for its family friendly environment and unique,
intimate culture, Listermann s houses 19 employees, half of which are full time. Listermann s prides
itself on its humble beginnings, starting as a home brewery located in the Hamilton County Business
Center, as well as its commitment to its values, refusing to cut corners in production and
manufacturing or sell to those underage in order to enhance profits. Listermann s sets itself apart from
other microbreweries through its diversification, offering classes, game nights, and a local watering
hole for individuals to come every day after work, in addition to ... Show more content on

In its attempt to monopolize, Anheuser Busch InBev has set a primary focus on forming stronger
relationships with distributors throughout the country, including in Cincinnati. Some of these
relationships have gone as far as Anheuser Busch InBev buying out distributors. This dynamic worries
Dan more than any other aspect, as a local microbrewery s success is based highly on its relationship
with distributors and their ability to effectively sell the product. This monopoly has shown an interest
in and ability to strangle Listermann s at the distribution stage, causing the microbrewery drop offs in
profit and reputation in the eyes of distributors. Some small breweries have already caved in under the
pressure, as part of this monopolization includes buying up any microbreweries that are willing to sell.
If this trend continues, it could be disastrous for Listermann s, because Dan has used the same strategy
of relying on consistent distributors ever since he opened, and he has never had to repair that
relationship or find a new strategy. In addition to their attempt to buy out distributors, Anheuser Busch
InBev has shown the money and resources to buy out employees from small beer producers like
Listermann s. Dan pointed out that this trend has already begun, as he has lost more employees

Terri Schiavo Case Analysis
1. If I had a 1% chance of not coming out of a coma or persistent vegetative state I would want the
physicians to continue to treat me and keep me on a respirator for a limited amount of time. I believe
that God has the final say if you will come out of the coma. However, if after being treated for a
sufficient amount of time has passed, I would want the physicians to stop the usage of a respirator. At
that point if I m supposed to live or die, God will be the one to decide if I live or die. Now that being
said, if all else has failed I would not want to live for example, as the way Terri Schiavo was being
kept alive. 2. Not only did she live in a persistent vegetative state her family had endured having to

Alexander Mackenzie s Repair
While the liberals were at force, it wasn t in their intentions to keep fabricating the route, so they
backed off on the creation of the track. During Alexander Mackenzie s cabinet years he invested
majority of his time in planning the best route for the CPR. Mackenzie s idea in regards to the CPR
route involved a less costly plan, or so he thought: his plan was developed around the thought of
building a line that would cross the nation partly by rail and partly by water20. Luckily this plan wasn
t carried out due to the fact that the CPR s budget wasn t high enough.
In 1871 an individual by the name of Sandford Fleming was delegated to construct a survey for the
Canadian Pacific Railway. These surveys were intended to focus on the best route

D Day And The Effect On Bedford

D Day and the Effect on Bedford, Virginia How can a small county have such a significant loss, and
still recover immediately after and in the future? D Day took a big toll on the population of Bedford,
Virginia on June 6, 1944. The events of D Day still influence this small community today. Germany
invaded northwestern France in 1940; however, the Americans entered the war in December 1942 and
formed an alliance with Britain. Adolf Hitler was aware of the threats of invasion and put Erwin
Rommel in charge of defense operations (History.com). In January of 1944, General Dwight
Eisenhower became commander of Operation Overlord. Since Britain and America were Allies, they
used the alliance to deceive the Germans. They made the Germans think they were attacking Pas de
Calais instead, they attacked Normandy. They also made the Germans think that Norway, as well as
other locations, were potential targets (History.com). The Allies used many tactics to help with the
deception, like fake equipment, a phantom army, and fraudulent radios. June 5th was the original day
for the invasion. Unfortunately bad weather caused the attack to be postponed until the next day. On
June 6th, at dawn, the Allied troops invaded Western Europe from the sea. The Allied armies spent
several months preparing for this large amphibious attack. In addition, air attacks were used to keep
German forces from moving troops in to protect the

Factors Affecting The Environment Of The World s Fisheries
Fisheries satisfy the conditions for being a common (public) good by being non excludable and rival.
No one can exclude a person from fishing, but present day intake of fish will reduce the amount
available for other fisherman in the future ( rival ). Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over
exploited leading to a devastating impact on aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and
destructs the natural habitats of many oceanic communities. Fish, however, are not the only
stakeholders affected by these current threats. The different hazards to this industry also cause a socio
economic and financial loss. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520 million people involved in
fishing and fish related activities. (WWF) Various emerging economies around the world such as
Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan depend highly on the fishing industry for their national income.
Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich source of protein.
With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing rapidly, affecting
over 2.6 billion people. Due to the various threats, the overall economic position of many developing
countries is under pressure. Furthermore, fisheries around the world are already working at or over
capacity, causing overconsumption of seafood, leading to depletion in the amount of fish available for
future generations. This impairment of fisheries is also coming from a number of

Book Of Kings Summary
The introduction of the book of Kings talks about Solomon being king as well as Jeroboam it then
goes on to talk about the Story of Elijah and Ahab. These two people did not get along. Ahab wanted
the Israelites to worship Baal, Elijah did not want that seeing that, he is a prophet he wanted the
Israelites to worship God. Since Elijah was becoming old he went out to seek out someone who would
be able to take over his position he found Elisha. The next part talks about Elisha s success. After that
it then goes on to talk about the End of the Omrid Dynasty as well as the end of Israel and Judah.
Naaman had been embarrassed of the way he looks due to his Leprosy. He felt embarrassed because
he was the army commander of the king and thought that since he had Leprosy people would look at
him differently and treat him differently. So, he went to the king of Israel to help with the cure, the
king tore his garments to pieces. Naaman went to Elisha, a prophet at the time. Elisha told Naaman to
go to the river and jump in seven times. Naaman did what he was told his flesh was then clean. As it

Diverty And Poverty In Haiti
UCI Haiti Manje? Manje? With empty, open hands and pleading eyes, I am asked by a five year old
Haitian if I have any food. His rounded stomach is malnourished from eating mud pies. It is mid
morning, when this child should be in school, but instead he is at home. In the background, his mom
and three siblings outside their one room house with mud floors and walls, a thatch roof, and open
windows. The poverty level in Haiti is at a heartbreaking high which can be lessened by becoming
educated and acting on the problem so Haitians in need can reap major benefits. Hunger,
homelessness, poverty, and lack of education grip the entire country of Haiti. More than two million
Haitians are homeless. That number significantly rose when an earthquake struck the island in 2010.
Because so many people lost their homes in the earthquake, IDP (internally displaced people) camps
were set up for those who did not have adequate shelter. (Last two sentences: Amnesty.org) However,
IDP camps are randomly evacuated, leaving thousands of people instantly homeless and on their own.
Most of the population lives in rural areas. A majority of the houses are two room huts with mud walls
and floors. The roofs are thatched with grasses and palm leaves or covered with sheet metal if it can be
afforded. The lack of housing or quality of housing leads to many grumbling stomachs. Many Haitians
are malnourished and starving. It is reported that over 100,000 children under the age of five suffer

The Significance Of Re, The Ancient Egyptian Sun God
Re, also called Ra, was the ancient Egyptian sun god and one of the creator gods. This deity took a
multitude of forms that varied depending on his location and function. Most frequently, Re was
identified as the mid day sun, travelling by boat high in the sky above. His influence permeated all
strata of Egyptian society and culture, as his continual visible presence in the sky reinforced his
preeminence in the ancient Egyptian pantheon of gods. Throughout Egyptian history, despite the rise
and fall in prominence of other deities, Re s influence in the sky, on the earth, and in the underworld
remained intact.
In art, Re is identifiable as the solar disk, shown frequently encircled by a protective cobra, and
sometimes depicted with outstretched wings. Re was also depicted as a falcon, with a sun disk
crowning his head or portrayed with a human body and the head of a falcon. As the sun, Re had
varying forms which represented the sun at differing times of day. As the morning sun, Re was
represented with a scarab head, and as the evening sun, he was represented with the head of a ram. At
noon, he was portrayed as a falcon headed deity. Moreover, in later period of Egyptian history, Re was
merged frequently with other ancient Egyptian gods to become other forms of the sun. For example,
Re Horakhty was a combination of Re and Horus that represented the morning sun, while Atum Re
was a combination of Re and Atum that represented the evening sun. In these forms, Re can be

Disadvantages Of A Broadway Strike
Any negotiator considering items to included in contract cannot afford to overlook the impact of the
united states entertainment industry throughout the world Wilson, J. (1991). Artist often need to deal
with low compensation compared to the one, who have been with the industry for a long time, hence,
it was quite essential to have a couple of union for providing a fair value for the artists. The strike is
often considered as a last remedy to provide benefits for the labors and workers. It would be
disadvantage for both producers and the artists, as we have seen writers guide of America organized

The Growth Of Technological Equipment
Individuals around the world love the concept of innovating and creating a better world for
generations to come. Throughout history, the way of life for individuals drastically improved due to
transformative individuals. The standard of living of the people of the United States doubled in the
first half of the twentieth century... The outstanding cause... is the growth of technological equipment
(Ogburn 386). Businesses were and still are allowed to grow economically as a result of the increased
productivity mainly from the rapidly growing development in technology. Technology allows
individuals to achieve results in a shorter time period but more importantly, the internet grants the
power to share the information and to connect with others about one s efforts. Because of this, it also
expands the boundless knowledge of the possible billions of people. However, to use the given
knowledge requires an extra step and some may not know which direction to take the steps in. The
current lifestyle of many individuals requires many to figure out and use information for him or her
self, which may discourage individuals from using technology. Although some individuals do not
enjoy the idea and use of technology, the internet has positive effects on society which include: the
internet increases info availability, serves as an entertainment resource, creates jobs, allows the

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Essay
Gulliver and the Grotesque
The term scatological means to have an interest or preoccupation with the obscene. In his book,
Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes
concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would
encounter in a cheeky T.V. show but has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary
trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective Swift employs scatology as a means of
satire. This invokes Swift s contemporary politics. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity,
balancing out the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. Realism in literature, refers generally to any
artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary
conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or
tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an
attempt to reflect life as it actually is. Swift uses the daily grotesque and bodily functions to both
connect his audience and provoke disgust in them. By employing a blasé attitude when using this
device, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. He
accomplishes this because the grotesque is simply an exaggeration of reality. Swift also creates the
character of Gulliver, a realist character

The Migration Of South Australia And The Pacific Islands
Around 50,000 years ago, a limited group of humans migrated through to northern Australia and the
Pacific Islands by means of primitive boat. Scholars believe that it is highly likely theses trips were
planned, due to the fact that enough women and men to furnish a new population had traveled
collectively (Kamrani, Kambiz). Seeing as how the Pacific was the first ocean to be explored in this
time marks the ocean crossing coming out of Eurasia to Australia and the Pacific Islands one of
humanity s earliest great achievements. Although as to where the migrants began their journey before
the travel to the islands is arguable at best, there exist numerous migration routes stemming from
Africa to Southeast Asia and onward. Still, it became a tremendous accomplishment for
mankind, though the justifying means as to how, why and when the journey was made are still a
debated topic among scholars. The migration of early humans to Australia and New Guinea from
Southeast Asia is known as the Southern wave. The actual timing of it is hard to ascertain as it appears
after the end of the last Ice Age (12,000 years ago), the glaciers that melted had drowned large
stretches of coastline covering any possible evidence for newage scientists and making it certain that
the humans had to endure a fifty mile voyage at sea to reach land in Australia. Using sea crafts strong
enough and advanced far beyond the technology norm at the time, in order to survive such a journey,

Effects Of Insider Trading Regulations On The Capital Markets
Introduction
The concern of this paper is the effects of insider trading which constitutes whether to support or to
reject insider trading regulations. Whether insider trading should or should not be regulated in the
capital markets is a difficult question to answer due to ethical and rational concerns. A suitable answer
is an answer that must be sufficient enough to satisfy both types of concerns appropriately. This paper
contains three sections to this topic: for regulation, against regulation, as well as a personal critique.
Due to the nature of this touchy subject, this topic of insider trading regulations has been one of the
most controversial debate ongoing for decades by many intellectual authors. Few of these authors

If not so, then inside traders would have a significant advantage over outsiders; thus leading to a
higher rate of return against the statistical mean. This however is not what pro non regulation supports
view as practical. Rather than a fair trading ground, they propose that price moving efficiency as
significantly more important. Thomas Lambert, an author who defends the idea having regulations
against insider trading, proposes a more middle ground solution that would loosen regulation while
maintaining some but not all current regulations. His proposal suggests that the SEC should not
regulate price decreasing tactics, whereas to leave price increasing tactics regulations fixed. In fairness
to his proposal, it can be a remedy that would correct over valued equity prices, while protecting under
valued equity. Not only would it satisfy the intentions of anti regulation supporters, but it could fix
ethical concerns regarding manager behaviors. Now there are many reasons as to why regulations
must stay fixed in place against inside trading. It would give way to an unfair advantage to investors
holding privileged information.
While possessing undisclosed information, managers would be able to take on risky projects that may
have been above their risk tolerance. In other words, insider trading is practically used for two
purposes: to maximize gains and to minimize risk. The price of a firm s stock reflects the valuation

Bringing Ulvaeus and Andersson into the world of theater featuring 22 of their best songs.
The ABBA music in the production could bring several advantages. One is bringing fans of Ulvaeus
and Andersson as additional audiences in the show. Another is that the two could be the upper hand of
Mamma Mia compared to other productions. But, bringing the two singers in the world of theater
could be a risk since they are known as singers not actors, and there may be conflicts with people who
do not appreciate their music. The production s story line is non traditional. Mamma Mia built its plot
around the songs, different from classic productions wherein the songs are only complimentary to the
storyline. The story is feel good and not much thinking is required. It may be considered as innovative
although it may cost the audience who prefer the traditional theater.
III. Alternatives/Options
1. Opportunity: ABBA Music popular in the market
Action: Emphasizing or featuring ABBA music in marketing the production. People who are
considered fans of ABBA could be a great addition to the viewers of Mamma Mia.

Action: Allot a percentage of benefits to the victims of the bombing so the audience would have a dual

The Role Of Ethics And Morals Throughout The Life Of A...
The paper is a description of what role ethics and morals play in the life of a Defense Attorney. While
having to support his client a defense Attorney more often than not would have to prove the
prosecution s witness to be fake. The paper deals with the techniques that are followed by an Attorney
to protect his client and it gives us an idea of the numerous strategies that he would have to adopt to
prove his client in the right. Further, the paper is also a discussion upon facts as to whether an
Attorney can purposely cross question a witness, and mislead the court just to prove his client not
guilty. Here the main purpose of the argument starts with the fact whether a defense attorney is
ethically right when he decides to purposely cross examine the prosecutor s witness just to mislead the
court, when he knows that the witness is saying the truth, and does so only to discredit his answers.
From time immemorial lawyers have been condemned and thought of as conniving people. As early as
the biblical times writers have been condemning lawyers. The great satirist, Jonathan Swift had in his
book Gulliver s Travels in 1726 stated that there was a society of men among us, bred up from their
youth in the art of proving by words multiplied for the purpose that white is black and black is white,
according as they are paid. To this society all rest of the people is slaves. It can be stated that the real
reason to conduct Cross Examination is to find answers to questions of fact.

Essay about Maximizing Production in the Food Industry
Introduction
One of the most important management activities in today s economy is to improve performance,
especially labor productivity, because almost every manufacturing process involves human work. Not
only the physical work, but also the mental manpower is crucial to achieve the objectives of the
organization. Increased productivity includes greater motivation, personal participation and better
performance of work in the foodservice organization. For institutional food service, improving labor
productivity can be more challenging because of budget pressure and strict regulations. Many studies
have been done on working environment, management skills, vocational training and so on. Some
general management skills, such as vocational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) recorded the degree and intensity of training
activities in the firm they studied; and it was the key feature in this study, because CVST solved the
arguments of adding up a variety of economic activities with wide differences in terms of capital or
labor intensity (Sala Silva, 2012). Besides CVTS, intensity in research and development, job training
process, degree of capitalization, and general education were also considered as factors in their
calculation model, so the conclusion was able to apply to other general professions.
Accordingly, human capital is also important for food service industry and it can promote economic
growth dramatically. The result of study from Sala and Silva can be applied to food service industry as
well. Proper vocational training before and during the employment can definitely increase labor
productivity. Training for new employees, such as food safety, skills of handwashing, policy and skills
of using certain machines, will help new employees to fit in work quickly and reduce the chances of
operational error. Based on what we learned in class, improvements in design and operation of kitchen
equipment is one of the applications of productivity improvement. Continued vocational training can

Both Titus Andronicus and Grandpa s soup serve the purpose of entertaining the reader in juxtaposing
ways. Titus Andronicus is illustrative of the alarming horror that certain types of cooking and food
reinforce, whereas Grandpa s soup is representative of the warmth and affection that certain types of
food and cooking can bring. Themes portrayed in these texts such as death, mortality, celebration,
desperation, love and hate are looked at from completely different angles through the literary
techniques displayed by both writers, which will be analyzed and discussed in this essay.

death is a natural process that she cannot stop but she goes on to say how it will affect her living life
as she will be emotionally torn apart and carry the burden of pain throughout with the absence of her
Grandpa and his remedial soup.
There is evidence of figurative language that is very effective in outlining and comprehending the
character s point of view in Grandpa s Soup for example the simile like a rich island in the middle of
the soup sea . The hyperbole assists in getting her ideas across. Describing the soup as a sea represents
the depth of the character s feelings associated with the soup, and her Grandpa. This is reinforced by
the yearning that is evident through her language, for example he knows I will grow and pine for it. I
will fall ill and desperately need it this could be seen as deep emotive language that shows her
desperation and strong will to hold onto her Grandpa forever and the fact that she draws from the
semantic field of health shows that the soup is so important to her it s like a cure or a medicine for all
her illnesses. The desperate people

What Approach Is Likely To Produce The Happier Child

outcome was both children received a prize. But the real question, by having this type of believes are

Essay on Black Women and the Crooked Room
Quiz 2 Question 1
The study Melissa Perry Harris uses as an analogy of the crooked room is derived from the field
dependent study which argues people are influenced by the clues in the environment to position
themselves and how they people adjust themselves to fit their environment. The Field Dependent and
Field Independent Cognitive Styles and Their Educational Implications, by Herman Witkin, Carol
Moore, Donald Goodenough, Patricia Cox, in 1977 show that field dependent people make greater use
of external social symbols, but only when the situation is vague and these symbols provide
information that helps to remove the ambiguity of the situation. In Sister Citizen, Melissa Perry Harris

According to Harris Perry, in Sister Citizen, there are three essential elements in the emotion of shame
(104). The first element of shame is social; the fear of embarrassment or humiliation around others in
our community. For Black women the social element of shame may cause all encompassing feelings
of guilt, especially when the possibility of public exposure by others to those who are family or close
personally. The next element of shame is global. In Black women it can cause feelings of weakness or
being inadequate as a person as a whole. According to Harris Perry, global shame extends beyond a
single incident and becomes an evaluation of self (104). The third element of shame is withdrawal,
both psychologically and physically. Out of the three, withdrawal can be more insidious than the other
two elements of shame because it can be debilitating. Physical withdrawal can cause Black women
make themselves smaller for example, by not speaking up, and withdrawing into themselves by
isolating themselves from others. Psychological withdrawal can cause lack of self esteem, social
disorders, and substance abuse to self medicate in order to cope with feelings of shame. Other issues
of shame are those constructed by the Jim Crow system. For example, African Americans being a
shamed race by being forced into

Symbolism In The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his short story The Birthmark (written and published prior to 1843), contains
the element of symbolism to present the theme of personal beauty, regardless of physical appearance.
More specifically, he speaks of the appearance of Georgiana, the wife of Aylmer, who had a very large
birthmark, or blemish that appeared upon birth. God made every individual perfect, and made it very
clear that man not need go tampering with the beauty, inner or external, that God gave someone at the
moment of their birth birth. The style Hawthorne chose describes each symbol with great detail . For
example, when Hawthorne describes the birthmark in detail; ...But if any shifting motion caused her to

For example, Aylmer tries to destroy Georgiana s human nature [her birthmark, in which born with],
thus destroying her life, because she essentially contained no beauty on the outside (Rosenberg, The
Best The Earth Has To Offer). Aylmer wanted to cure his wife from the birthmark she had that he so
dreaded. He looked at his wife as being Shocking (Hawthorne, The Birthmark). Another example
would be when Aminabad looked at Georgiana with the identity given to her, not the identity her
husband wants for her . ...Aminadab, looking intently at the lifeless form of Georgiana; and then he
muttered to himself, If she were my wife, I d never part with that birthmark. Aminadab shows large
levels of content with the appearance and features of Georgiana, that he would have never tampered
with the features given to her at birth, opposed to Aylmer, who wanted to change the way she looked,
that she be more beautiful to him (Rosenberg, The best the Earth has to Offer). A third example of this
theme would be That Georgiana Wants Her husband to love her the way she is, and in the beginning of
the story, gets rather upset at him. Shocks you, my husband! cried Georgiana, deeply hurt; at first
reddening with momentary anger, but then bursting into tears. Then why did you take me from my
mother s side? (Hawthorne, The Birthmark).

Memory And Erasure On Willamette s Campus Analysis
Inscribed in the very study of history is memory. Orienting our every action in this realm, whether
consciously or subconsciously, it is our memory that each human clings to. As humans establish
groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated,
solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human
sentimentality, studying collective memory often illuminates the fundamental relationship between
powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Examining sites of memory
and erasure on Willamette s Campus, the LARC grant proposed by Professor Eisenberg, provides an
excellent opportunity to form a case study of this relationship.

Abolish Of The Electoral College
The abolishment of the electoral college has been a highly debated political topic since it was first
established by our founding fathers. The Electoral College is a voting system that was put in place by
the founding fathers back in 1787. When voters casts their ballots, they are actually voting for the
presidential electors. Each state is guaranteed at least 3 electoral votes. The number of electors a state
has is equivalent to the number of representatives they have plus the 2 seats in Senate. In total there are
538 electoral votes; including the 3 from D.C. electors. However the Presidential candidates need at
least 270 votes to win the election. However, this electoral system has created quite an uproar among
people since the last election. The electoral college has limited democracy to people in three major
ways: by having the ability to alter results of the election over the popular vote, discriminating
candidates to campaign in certain states, and subsidize the decline in voter turnout.
The electoral college has made it possible for presidential candidates to win the popular vote but not
the electoral college. This indicates that if a candidate is leading the their opponent by millions of
votes, he or she can still lose the election due to the opposing candidate getting more votes from the
smaller states in the electoral college. In the article, These 3 Common Arguments For Preserving the
Electoral College Are Wrong by Robert Speel, a professor of Political Science

4 Effects Of The Proclamation Of Emergency
Four important effects of the proclamation mentioned in Article 353, 354, 358 and 359 are as follows:
The first important effect of the proclamation is : Contrary to the normal circumstances, during
proclamation of emergency, the Executive power of the Union extends to giving directions to the State
as to the manner in which the executive power is to be exercised. The legislative power of the Union
also is extended to making laws in the State List, for a State or a part thereof, and has an overriding
effect. This includes power to impose duties on the Union and its officers. The President is given
power to promulgate Ordinances in the matters included in the State List. The second important effect
of the proclamation is: As per the provisions of these articles, the financial arrangements between the

The Gladiator VS. History Essay
I m sure that many people have seen the movie the, Gladiator and thought that most if not all of it was
true. Sadly this movie paints a picture that falls short of fact and leans more towards fiction. Winning
5 academy awards it is a hit with the audience but with historians a bust. This is mainly due to the
inconsistencies revolving around character portrayals, events, and even characters that don t exist. I m
sure that this is because the truth wouldn t fair as well as the movie did. Moreover the, Gladiator
which is a winner of many academy awards does not win much in the depiction of characters and
events. Gladiator begins in 180 A.D in the winter time on a battlefield in Germania. The first error is

Another mistake within this movie was showing Marcus Aurelis as only having 2 children, Lucilla and
Commodus, but Marcus Aurelius actually had 13 children (Gill N.S.). Leaving off with the opening of
this movie the biggest historical mistake overall revolves around the leading character and hero of this
movie, Maximus. This is because he is entirely made up, he did not exist. So every event or action that
involves him is false. Lucilla and he never had relations when they were younger, he didn t kill
anyone, and he was not supposed to be the protector of Rome like they showed Marcus Aurelis
wanting. Although Maximus may be a compilation of people who were real. For instance the man who
did command the battle in the opening scene which most likely occured in 179 was Taruttiens
Paternus. Also how he longed to be home and his family are from Claudius Pompeianus who was a
military officer whose career resembled Maximus s (Ward). A short while after the opening scene we
are transported to North African Zucchabar where yet more inaccuracies occur. The first being the
misconception from the movie that Gladiator games had been banned by Maximus Aurelis. This is
stated by the character Proximo who purchased Maximus to be one of his gladiators. He described
how he was forced to make a living due to the games being banned. Also the Coliseum is supposed to
have been reopened by Commodus to host games to honor his father. Commodus does this

Philadelphia Chromosome And Leukemia Essay
Essay 88: The Philadelphia Chromosome and Leukemia The so called Philadelphia chromosome is an
abnormal chromosomal structure present in most cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and
to a lesser extent in other types of leukemia, most notably acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). The
origin of the term Philadelphia chromosome simply reflects the fact that a research team first
identified this abnormality in a blood sample from a leukemia patient in Philadelphia, PA.
CML vs. Acute Leukemias Unlike acute forms of leukemia, in which the cardinal manifestations
(fever, weight loss, and fatigue) appear abruptly, patients with CML may be asymptomatic for months
or even years prior to diagnosis. Even after diagnosis, many patients with chronic forms of leukemia
survive 5 10 years or longer. In approximately 90% of CML patients an abnormal structure known as
the Philadelphia chromosome results from an event known as a chromosomal translocation. ... Show

In CML, a chromosomal translocation occurs between chromosomes 9 and 22. Geneticists abbreviate
this event t9:22. The result of this t9:22 translocation is the juxtaposition of the c abl tyrosine kinase
gene on chromosome 9 with the bcr (breakpoint cluster region) on chromosome 22. The product is an
abnormal fusion gene that encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase called bcr abl. The bcr abl
protein is a perpetually active version of a cell proliferation signal. The normal versions of these
intracellular tyrosine kinases are generally inactivated unless the cell is responding to growth factors
or cytokines that promote cell proliferation. The bcr abl protein is a different story. It acts like a
broken record, continuously telling the cell to copy its DNA and undergo cell division. Consequently,
lymphocytes that undergo the t9:22 translocation begin to proliferate out of

stock market crash Essay
The Stock Market crash of 1929 has been looked at as the greatest symbol of depression is our
countries history. Although the Stock Market crashing had a huge effect on the beginning of the Great
Depression, there are still factors to consider when looking for a source to blame. It s hard to put
responsibility on the stock market for something so huge and disheartening. The Great Depression is
seen as a slippery road downward, not a sudden jolt into hopelessness.

The banking system of the 1920 s is not what it should have been. Today we have insurance on the
money we put in the bank, so if that bank should go under, we can still have our money. This was not
the case in the 20 s. If your bank closed, and many of them did, you lost all the money you had saved.
No one could help you and many families ended up on the street due to this loss.
Bread lines were now crowded as people tried any way they could to feed themselves and their
children. Suicide was now at a high as well. Many businessmen or farmers and really anyone else who
had lost their job or business due to the times often committed suicide as the easy way out. The way
out of the Depression was a long road ahead.
FDR, in my opinion, is mainly the reason that the Great Depression ended. FDR would hold fireside
chats everyday on the radio. This was very consoling for a country who thought they were headed
nowhere. It was nice to hear a man of power tell you that everything was going to be okay. He gained
even more great respect after announcing the New Deal.
The first New Deal was aimed towards business recovery. He insisted that the banking industry now
be regulated and developed F.D.I.C. that would insure your deposits up to $5,000. This is the same
system that we use today.

He rationalizes that each eye produces the image of the object viewed in a different location, which
produces depth; though the problem with this phenomenon is that it is not producible through paint.
There is only one canvas for which the viewer to see, but they are looking at an image through two
eyes. Being able to get around this drawback of paint frustrated the man to no end. Ultimately, he
knew that there was no way around the fact that a painting could never be an exact copy of what the
eyes can see, but he never stopped trying to fake it as best he could. The device he came up with was
brilliant, and simple: to blur the objects in the background in order to give a lifelike focus on the
object which he wanted the viewer to look at. This had never been done before, as there was emphasis
on making sure every nuance of detail was correct. Leonardo understood that by looking at each
object in his field of view separately created a fake observation, since when he was actually focused
on one subject, his eyes could not focus on the area around them. With the desire to understand
proportion, there was a curiosity for geometry, and by learning the methods behind this math form,
Leonardo s work benefitted greatly. By collaborating on De divina proportione with mathematician

in the minds of the employers that should there be a case of sexual harassment at work, they do have a

that sexual harassment cases are increasingly on the rise. Not only this, the reports also suggest that
the harassment has reached the higher levels of management, as in the case of American Apparel.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes all the more imperative and necessary for a firm to adopt a sexual

Obedience Training for All Breeds
I. Statement of Need 1.1 Issues around breed specific laws, mistreatment of canine, lack of education
and training, discrimination of breed specific, and costs are among some of many issues pit owners
face each and everyday. 1.2 Owners who show a lack of care, usually cruel and criminal owners use
negative reinforcement to make the animal act the way they want. This could be training for animal
fights, property guarding, and or simply the fact the owner wanted them because of the breed leaving
them to roam the property without positive stimulation, training, and proper care. 1.3 Dogs suffer
abuse without retaliation and often lead to reckless behavior by some individuals. Canines have a very

homeowners and apartment agencies deny housing. 2.4 Causing harm to handicap people in need of
service dogs (which are sometimes pit bull breed).
III. Solutions
3.1 Put all breeds on equal ground across the board while providing pet owners the tools they need to

the unwanted ones. BSL is a term used for laws, which regulates or ban certain breeds solely in the

laws; it should be called breed discriminatory

  • 2. Listermann s Brewing Company Essay Founded in 1991 by Dan and Sue Listermann, Listermann s Brewing Company is a family run microbrewery located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Known for its family friendly environment and unique, intimate culture, Listermann s houses 19 employees, half of which are full time. Listermann s prides itself on its humble beginnings, starting as a home brewery located in the Hamilton County Business Center, as well as its commitment to its values, refusing to cut corners in production and manufacturing or sell to those underage in order to enhance profits. Listermann s sets itself apart from other microbreweries through its diversification, offering classes, game nights, and a local watering hole for individuals to come every day after work, in addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In its attempt to monopolize, Anheuser Busch InBev has set a primary focus on forming stronger relationships with distributors throughout the country, including in Cincinnati. Some of these relationships have gone as far as Anheuser Busch InBev buying out distributors. This dynamic worries Dan more than any other aspect, as a local microbrewery s success is based highly on its relationship with distributors and their ability to effectively sell the product. This monopoly has shown an interest in and ability to strangle Listermann s at the distribution stage, causing the microbrewery drop offs in profit and reputation in the eyes of distributors. Some small breweries have already caved in under the pressure, as part of this monopolization includes buying up any microbreweries that are willing to sell. If this trend continues, it could be disastrous for Listermann s, because Dan has used the same strategy of relying on consistent distributors ever since he opened, and he has never had to repair that relationship or find a new strategy. In addition to their attempt to buy out distributors, Anheuser Busch InBev has shown the money and resources to buy out employees from small beer producers like Listermann s. Dan pointed out that this trend has already begun, as he has lost more employees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Terri Schiavo Case Analysis 1. If I had a 1% chance of not coming out of a coma or persistent vegetative state I would want the physicians to continue to treat me and keep me on a respirator for a limited amount of time. I believe that God has the final say if you will come out of the coma. However, if after being treated for a sufficient amount of time has passed, I would want the physicians to stop the usage of a respirator. At that point if I m supposed to live or die, God will be the one to decide if I live or die. Now that being said, if all else has failed I would not want to live for example, as the way Terri Schiavo was being kept alive. 2. Not only did she live in a persistent vegetative state her family had endured having to look at their loved one in that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Alexander Mackenzie s Repair While the liberals were at force, it wasn t in their intentions to keep fabricating the route, so they backed off on the creation of the track. During Alexander Mackenzie s cabinet years he invested majority of his time in planning the best route for the CPR. Mackenzie s idea in regards to the CPR route involved a less costly plan, or so he thought: his plan was developed around the thought of building a line that would cross the nation partly by rail and partly by water20. Luckily this plan wasn t carried out due to the fact that the CPR s budget wasn t high enough. In 1871 an individual by the name of Sandford Fleming was delegated to construct a survey for the Canadian Pacific Railway. These surveys were intended to focus on the best route ... • 5. D Day And The Effect On Bedford Kaitlyn Overstreet Mrs. Trahan English II 28 October 2015 D Day and the Effect on Bedford, Virginia How can a small county have such a significant loss, and still recover immediately after and in the future? D Day took a big toll on the population of Bedford, Virginia on June 6, 1944. The events of D Day still influence this small community today. Germany invaded northwestern France in 1940; however, the Americans entered the war in December 1942 and formed an alliance with Britain. Adolf Hitler was aware of the threats of invasion and put Erwin Rommel in charge of defense operations (History.com). In January of 1944, General Dwight Eisenhower became commander of Operation Overlord. Since Britain and America were Allies, they used the alliance to deceive the Germans. They made the Germans think they were attacking Pas de Calais instead, they attacked Normandy. They also made the Germans think that Norway, as well as other locations, were potential targets (History.com). The Allies used many tactics to help with the deception, like fake equipment, a phantom army, and fraudulent radios. June 5th was the original day for the invasion. Unfortunately bad weather caused the attack to be postponed until the next day. On June 6th, at dawn, the Allied troops invaded Western Europe from the sea. The Allied armies spent several months preparing for this large amphibious attack. In addition, air attacks were used to keep German forces from moving troops in to protect the ... • 6. Factors Affecting The Environment Of The World s Fisheries Fisheries satisfy the conditions for being a common (public) good by being non excludable and rival. No one can exclude a person from fishing, but present day intake of fish will reduce the amount available for other fisherman in the future ( rival ). Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over exploited leading to a devastating impact on aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and destructs the natural habitats of many oceanic communities. Fish, however, are not the only stakeholders affected by these current threats. The different hazards to this industry also cause a socio economic and financial loss. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520 million people involved in fishing and fish related activities. (WWF) Various emerging economies around the world such as Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan depend highly on the fishing industry for their national income. Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich source of protein. With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing rapidly, affecting over 2.6 billion people. His influence permeated all strata of Egyptian society and culture, as his continual visible presence in the sky reinforced his preeminence in the ancient Egyptian pantheon of gods. • 13. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Essay Gulliver and the Grotesque The term scatological means to have an interest or preoccupation with the obscene. In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show but has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective Swift employs scatology as a means of satire. This invokes Swift s contemporary politics. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, balancing out the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. Realism in literature, refers generally to any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to reflect life as it actually is. Swift uses the daily grotesque and bodily functions to both connect his audience and provoke disgust in them. By employing a blasé attitude when using this device, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. He accomplishes this because the grotesque is simply an exaggeration of reality. Swift also creates the character of Gulliver, a realist character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Migration Of South Australia And The Pacific Islands Around 50,000 years ago, a limited group of humans migrated through to northern Australia and the Pacific Islands by means of primitive boat. Scholars believe that it is highly likely theses trips were planned, due to the fact that enough women and men to furnish a new population had traveled collectively (Kamrani, Kambiz). Seeing as how the Pacific was the first ocean to be explored in this time marks the ocean crossing coming out of Eurasia to Australia and the Pacific Islands one of humanity s earliest great achievements. Although as to where the migrants began their journey before the travel to the islands is arguable at best, there exist numerous migration routes stemming from Africa to Southeast Asia and onward. Still, it became a tremendous accomplishment for mankind, though the justifying means as to how, why and when the journey was made are still a debated topic among scholars. The migration of early humans to Australia and New Guinea from Southeast Asia is known as the Southern wave. The actual timing of it is hard to ascertain as it appears after the end of the last Ice Age (12,000 years ago), the glaciers that melted had drowned large stretches of coastline covering any possible evidence for newage scientists and making it certain that the humans had to endure a fifty mile voyage at sea to reach land in Australia. Thomas Lambert, an author who defends the idea having regulations against insider trading, proposes a more middle ground solution that would loosen regulation while maintaining some but not all current regulations. Orienting our every action in this realm, whether consciously or subconsciously, it is our memory that each human clings to. As humans establish groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated, solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human sentimentality, studying collective memory often illuminates the fundamental relationship between powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Examining sites of memory and erasure on Willamette s Campus, the LARC grant proposed by Professor Eisenberg, provides an excellent opportunity to form a case study of this relationship. ... • 31. Abolish Of The Electoral College The abolishment of the electoral college has been a highly debated political topic since it was first established by our founding fathers. The Electoral College is a voting system that was put in place by the founding fathers back in 1787. When voters casts their ballots, they are actually voting for the presidential electors. Each state is guaranteed at least 3 electoral votes. The number of electors a state has is equivalent to the number of representatives they have plus the 2 seats in Senate. In total there are 538 electoral votes; including the 3 from D.C. electors. However the Presidential candidates need at least 270 votes to win the election. However, this electoral system has created quite an uproar among people since the last election. The electoral college has limited democracy to people in three major ways: by having the ability to alter results of the election over the popular vote, discriminating candidates to campaign in certain states, and subsidize the decline in voter turnout. The electoral college has made it possible for presidential candidates to win the popular vote but not the electoral college. This indicates that if a candidate is leading the their opponent by millions of votes, he or she can still lose the election due to the opposing candidate getting more votes from the smaller states in the electoral college. Sadly this movie paints a picture that falls short of fact and leans more towards fiction. Winning 5 academy awards it is a hit with the audience but with historians a bust. This is mainly due to the inconsistencies revolving around character portrayals, events, and even characters that don t exist. I m sure that this is because the truth wouldn t fair as well as the movie did. Another mistake within this movie was showing Marcus Aurelis as only having 2 children, Lucilla and Commodus, but Marcus Aurelius actually had 13 children (Gill N.S.). Leaving off with the opening of this movie the biggest historical mistake overall revolves around the leading character and hero of this movie, Maximus. This is because he is entirely made up, he did not exist. So every event or action that involves him is false. Lucilla and he never had relations when they were younger, he didn t kill anyone, and he was not supposed to be the protector of Rome like they showed Marcus Aurelis wanting. Although Maximus may be a compilation of people who were real. For instance the man who did command the battle in the opening scene which most likely occured in 179 was Taruttiens Paternus. Also how he longed to be home and his family are from Claudius Pompeianus who was a military officer whose career resembled Maximus s (Ward). A short while after the opening scene we are transported to North African Zucchabar where yet more inaccuracies occur. The first being the misconception from the movie that Gladiator games had been banned by Maximus Aurelis. This is stated by the character Proximo who purchased Maximus to be one of his gladiators. • 34. Philadelphia Chromosome And Leukemia Essay Essay 88: The Philadelphia Chromosome and Leukemia The so called Philadelphia chromosome is an abnormal chromosomal structure present in most cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and to a lesser extent in other types of leukemia, most notably acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). The origin of the term Philadelphia chromosome simply reflects the fact that a research team first identified this abnormality in a blood sample from a leukemia patient in Philadelphia, PA. CML vs. Acute Leukemias Unlike acute forms of leukemia, in which the cardinal manifestations (fever, weight loss, and fatigue) appear abruptly, patients with CML may be asymptomatic for months or even years prior to diagnosis. Even after diagnosis, many patients with chronic forms of leukemia survive 5 10 years or longer. In approximately 90% of CML patients an abnormal structure known as the Philadelphia chromosome results from an event known as a chromosomal translocation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In CML, a chromosomal translocation occurs between chromosomes 9 and 22. Geneticists abbreviate this event t9:22. The result of this t9:22 translocation is the juxtaposition of the c abl tyrosine kinase gene on chromosome 9 with the bcr (breakpoint cluster region) on chromosome 22. The product is an abnormal fusion gene that encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase called bcr abl. The bcr abl protein is a perpetually active version of a cell proliferation signal. The normal versions of these intracellular tyrosine kinases are generally inactivated unless the cell is responding to growth factors or cytokines that promote cell proliferation. The bcr abl protein is a different story. It acts like a broken record, continuously telling the cell to copy its DNA and undergo cell division. Consequently, lymphocytes that undergo the t9:22 translocation begin to proliferate out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the Stock Market crashing had a huge effect on the beginning of the Great Depression, there are still factors to consider when looking for a source to blame. It s hard to put responsibility on the stock market for something so huge and disheartening. The Great Depression is seen as a slippery road downward, not a sudden jolt into hopelessness. Today we have insurance on the money we put in the bank, so if that bank should go under, we can still have our money. This was not the case in the 20 s. If your bank closed, and many of them did, you lost all the money you had saved. No one could help you and many families ended up on the street due to this loss. Bread lines were now crowded as people tried any way they could to feed themselves and their children. Suicide was now at a high as well. Many businessmen or farmers and really anyone else who had lost their job or business due to the times often committed suicide as the easy way out. The way out of the Depression was a long road ahead. FDR, in my opinion, is mainly the reason that the Great Depression ended. FDR would hold fireside chats everyday on the radio. This was very consoling for a country who thought they were headed nowhere. It was nice to hear a man of power tell you that everything was going to be okay. He gained even more great respect after announcing the New Deal. The first New Deal was aimed towards business recovery. He rationalizes that each eye produces the image of the object viewed in a different location, which produces depth; though the problem with this phenomenon is that it is not producible through paint. There is only one canvas for which the viewer to see, but they are looking at an image through two eyes. Being able to get around this drawback of paint frustrated the man to no end. Ultimately, he knew that there was no way around the fact that a painting could never be an exact copy of what the eyes can see, but he never stopped trying to fake it as best he could. The device he came up with was brilliant, and simple: to blur the objects in the background in order to give a lifelike focus on the object which he wanted the viewer to look at. This had never been done before, as there was emphasis on making sure every nuance of detail was correct. Leonardo understood that by looking at each object in his field of view separately created a fake observation, since when he was actually focused on one subject, his eyes could not focus on the area around them. With the desire to understand proportion, there was a curiosity for geometry, and by learning the methods behind this math form, Leonardo s work benefitted greatly.
