OP-20-G s Invasion Of The Navy In Melbourne, Melbourne
A combat intelligence bulletin from HYPO was subsequently sent to the British Eastern Fleet, the
CNS at Melbourne, and the New Zealand Naval board, allowing the other Allies to utilize America
s intelligence findings (176). Meanwhile, after the Singapore surrender to the Japanese, the team at
station CAST became even more isolated. Realizing the team s importance to the area, OP 20 G
had them evacuated, first to Bandung to join a Dutch radio intelligence team, then to Melbourne
when that location also went under Japanese control. The international group of analysts in
Melbourne formed the Fleet Radio Unit, Melbourne, also known as FRUMEL. Admiral Glassford,
commander of US naval forces in the area, helped facilitate the incorporation of station CAST into
the Royal Australian Navy, into which the team of experts was welcomed with open arms (170 171).

They would start by capturing Port Moresby in New Guinea, then attack Midway and the
Aleutians to gain a decisive victory. Thanks to Allied progress in deciphering JN 25, Japan s
plan to press south to Moresby was identified. The US navy was able to thwart the invasion of
Port Moresby in the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 7, 1942. For the first time in the Pacific war,
American intelligence had been able to give adequate warning of enemy plans (Bath 178). This
was due to collaboration among agencies to decipher codes, and the newfound dedication of the
agencies to report their findings. The trend was to continue in the Battle of

The Shia Branch
Last but not least is a religion that has about one point five billion followers and is the purest of
the western monotheisms, Islam. Most of the people who follow Islam are located in Indonesia.
The meaning of Islam stands for submission, in Islam people are too submit themselves to God.
Islam is monotheistic because they believe in one God, which Allah is believed to be the God
while a man named Muhammadis Gods prophet. Muhammad was known to spread the message
of monotheism while many people were still polytheistic. He fled to to a city called Medina to
escape persecution. This was a huge event for the religion and was the start of the first year of the
Islamic calendar. Similar to Christianity, Islamhas a very important scripture that... Show more

What I mean when I say totally different is that the Sunni branch is more optimistic while the Shia
branch leans more towards pessimism. The Sunni branch is the largest and it takes up about eighty
five percent of Muslims leaving the Shia branch with only fifteen percent. The main issue of the
branches is that they didn t both agree on who should lead the community after Muhammad passed.
The Sunni branch believed it should have been a group decision on who takes charge next, while
the Shia did not agree with that and they thought that it should have went to Muhammad s cousin,
Ali. The Shia is also all about free will and symbolism rather than determinism and literal attributes
like Sunni. Its hard to believe groups like Al Qaeda that committed the nine eleven terrorism
attacks are apart of the Sunni branch and not the Shia since we consider these attacks harshly
negative and definitely not positive. Not all Muslims are terrorists though, that was just one
example of the two different branches of Islam that I discussed. Above are the most important
factors that influence the religion of Islam and the way of life of the Muslim

Ethics
Initially, my personal values distracted from my ability to sympathize with Bernard Ebbers
conviction. His defense team argued that the trial judge wrongly instructed the jury that it could
convict Mr. Ebbers on the basis that he engaged in conscious avoidance of the fraud at
WorldCom. It is evident that Ebbers took a blind eye to any consideration to analyze the good
stuff from the bad stuff in this situation. He failed to calculate the considerations of utility and as
a result he is paying the consequences through a substantial decrease in his quality of life.
Currently he is serving a 25 year sentence as inmate #56022 054 for 25 years in the Oakdale
Federal Correctional Complex in Louisiana. His earliest date to be considered for good... Show

Deception, whether intentional or not, did occur. The shareholders had a right to know the
financial state of WorldCom. In Ebber s defense, he had unscrupulous bed fellows on this board.
Their intentions are also at question especially regarding their eagerness to grant Mr. Ebbers a
breathtaking loan for $341 million dollar at an interest rate of 2% to shield the instability of the
company s financial situation from shareholders. There were also some concerns whether such
loans were ethical from the Security Exchange Commission Enforcement official Seth Taube. He
stated that large loans to senior executives are commonly sweetheart deals involving interest
rates that constitute a poor return on company assets. Federal prosecutors in New York cited
Ebbers s expensive lifestyle, and his overspending, as a motive to hide WorldCom s mounting
financial troubles. The impropriety associated with the largest loan any publicly traded company
has lent to one of its officers in recent memory is evident. Unfortunately, if Ebbers had pressed the
matter and sold his stock, he would have escaped the bankruptcy financially whole, but Ebbers
honestly thought WorldCom would recover. The series of clever manipulations to bury almost $4
billion in misallocated expenses and phony account entries discovered by Cynthia Copper s team
threw open Pandora s box. Ms. Cooper, a senior line manger, who worked for the WorldCom, CFO,

Compare And Contrast William Bradfords And Of Plymouth...
In John Smith s, Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles, and William Bradford s, Of
Plymouth Plantation, they discuss their lifestyle and adventure in the colonies. They also use
specific literary styles and techniques to describe to the reader of their unbelievable experiences. In
addition, both passages have many similarities and differences amongst each other involving their
writing. They are similar because they both tell a story, have a narrativestyle, use imagery and
repetition, and discuss religion. On the other hand, they are not alike because they have different
styles, tones, and purposes.
The literary styles and techniques of John Smith s, Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles,
and William Bradford s, Of Plymouth Plantation, are similar in many ways. Both passages tell a
story and have a narrative style. They both use imagery and repetition to describe their
experiences. Lastly, they both discuss religion in their writing. John Smith talks about how the
tassel was as a coronet of feathers, the skins hanging round about his head, back, and shoulders
and in a manner covered his face (Smith 50). He is using imagery and being very descriptive of
what the Indians looked like when they were dancing around their food. He wanted the readers the
have a good understanding of the Indians and to picture what the situation was like. William
Bradford does this as well. He states, After some hours sailing it began to snow and rain, and about

yet not all 1.8 million people have investigated fracking and if it is a benefit or danger. But some

The Golden Princess Persuasive Speech
As the princess waves her hand slightly to the right, signaling that the young man should choose
the right door, the man starts to cautiously make his way towards it. Just before he could grab the
silver lever, he thinks to himself, What if the princess knew I was going to pick the right door
leading me to the lady, instead of leading me to the ferocious maneating tiger? Why would she want
me to be with another woman whom she thinks is dire? I cannot go through with this barbaric
decision. In one instant, the young man turns swiftly to look back at the Princess, who is staring at
him with fear and softly mouthing to him, Choose the right door. He disregards her and turns to
the left door, which is latched by an enormous silver lever and he opens it with ease. While the
young man tries to see through the blackness, the princess quietly gets up from her seat and sneaks
out of the arena.
The crowd gasps and cheers as the young man and the beating red tiger s eyes meet. The man s
palms start sweating as the the orange and black beast slowly backs him into the door of from
which he entered. Looking above him, he sees that the crowd as well as the king, are smiling and
laughing at him as if it was amusing, but the princess is nowhere in sight. As the young man starts
to scan the crowd for the princess, his thoughts are broken by an enormous bang! Just as the young
man backs into the corner of the opposite end of where he and the tiger met, the princess swings

European Imperialism Africa Dbq
Africa was imperialized in the 1880s. Before imperialism, African countries socially had thousands
of different tribes, nations, cultures and languages. Africa was also economically active before
imperialism by having complex trade. Europeans imperialized Africa to spread Christianity,
abolition of slavery, their beliefs in cultural and racial superiority and to open new markets.
Europeans also wanted Africas natural resources like their ivory, gold, rubber, diamonds, fruit
minerals, palm oil and others. Europeans imperialized Africa by cooperating with local leaders,
taking advantage of African conflicts and because they had more weapons than Africa. The effects
of European imperialismon Africa were socially negative and economically negative.... Show more

European rule. This was a primary source because the author was the leader of his people during
this time and so he got to experience the ways the British took away the power of his people first
hand. This document shows that the effects of imperialism were negative for Africa because the
British took away their land and animals. Another example of how the effects of imperialism
were economically negative is on document #4. document #4 was written by Elinor Burns who
was a British writer and Marxist (fought for the rights of workers). He wrote this in West Africa,
1927 for the people interested in British imperialism in West Africa and said that food supplies

the Africans produced had to be given to the British for them to sell. This documents shows how

The Classification System Of Mental Health Disorders
The classification system of mental health disorders is the foundation for diagnosis, assessment,
intervention, and research. The necessity that this classification system provides a empirically
supported framework for the conceptualization of mental health disorders cannot be overstated.
Currently, mental health fields around the world rely primarily on the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders5th Edition (DSM 5; APA, 2013) and the International Classification of
Diseases 10th Edition (ICD 10; WHO, 1992), with providers from Western countries like the
United States relying almost exclusively on the DSM 5.
The DSM 5 and its previous editions were constructed using a categorical approach to the
classification of mental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objective of this paper is to describe the transition from a categorical approach to a
dimensional approach to the classification of mental health disorders. First, this paper will
describe the DSM s traditional categorical approach and discuss the major criticisms to this
approach. Second, this paper will discuss ways in which a dimensional approach exists in the DSM
5. Lastly, this paper will describe RDoC as a response to the failures of the categorical approach,
and explain how RDoC has led to a change in psychopathology research.
The Traditional Categorical Approach Prior to DSM 5, the American Psychiatric Association was
very clear that the DSM is a categorical classification that divides mental disorders into types based
on criterion sets with defining features, (APA, 2000). Specifically, the developers of the DSM
conceptualized mental health disorders as polythetic, meaning there are specific features that
comprise each disorder, but these features are neither necessary nor sufficient (Carragher, Krueger,
Eaton, Slade, 2015; Widiger, Trull, 2007). The underlying assumptions are that a mental health
disorder is caused by a specific pathology, and a category, or prototype can represent a qualitative
distinction between normality and abnormality. It is intended that clinicians use the DSM to
determine which disorder best explains a patient s symptoms based on the given diagnostic criteria,
which represent an operational

Dbq Cuban Missile Crisis
Justified, righteous, fair, and reasonable. Alike in definition, these words can all be used to
describe the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba. America had tried to invade Cuba and
overthrow Fidel Castro on numerous occasions, the Soviets who were allies with Cuba decided it
was time to step in and support their comrades. In October 1962, a two week matter took place,
after an American spy plane found 40 nuclear missiles installed by the Soviets, in Cuba, the event
later became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Americans did not approve of these Soviet
missiles, because they were 90 miles away from their country, but Khrushchev was not satisfied
with the U.S. having missiles pointed at his country either. This led to a small dispute... Show more

First off, the U.S planned an attack called the Bay of Pigs, which was one of their tactics to
invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. Their plan was to train exiled Cubans so that they
could be sent to Cuba in effort to overthrow Castro. ( The Bay of Pigs ).The installation of
missiles were to further prevent any events like this of happening, so it gave the USSR every
reason to continue to defend their ally who was being attacked. On top of that, the Soviets did
not even retort in aggression, even though it would have been reasonable if they did. Why could
they have not placed missiles in Cuba if they decided to not retaliate in violence? Months later,
America scheduled Operation Mongoose yet another tactic to kill Castro. They attempted to
have Castro removed, overthrown, and out of office in Cuba, but did not succeed ( The Bay of
Pigs Invasion and Its Aftermath ). After the second time America tried to overthrow Castro it
definitely justified the Soviet storing of missiles. The saying The first time is a mistake, but the
second time is a choice, applies to this situation. Cuba being attacked by the Americans the first
time was kind of like the mistake in the saying but the second attempt of invasion can be
compared to the choice in the saying. The final quote that proves the Soviet missiles were
defensive comes from Khrushchev, we were very grieved...that an attack on Cuba was committed,
as a result of which many Cubans perished. You yourself told me then that this had been a mistake.
I respected that explanation (Khrushchev). A summary of Khrushchev s word is that he responded
kindly to the attempted attacks and did not try to overrun America after their acts of violence,
even though he had the option to do so. The USSR was very fair and calm and reacted well to

Louisiana Black Bear Essay
The Louisiana black bear (Ursus americanus luteolus) is a subspecies of the American black bear
(Ursus americanus). The Louisiana black bear was once found roaming all over Louisiana and
parts of Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi. However, during the 18th and 19th century, bear
hunting became popular and large amounts of forest areas disappeared due to the demand for
wood and agricultural land. By the 1950 s, the Louisiana black bear s population was down to
eighty to one hundred twenty. In efforts, to save the species the Director of Louisiana Wildlife and

That being said, around the 3.40 mark, the solo appears to become more indulgent, and more of
an acquired taste than before. Thankfully, the saxophone returns at 4.20, with the riff used in the
earlier saxophone solo, and pulls the jam back into a more melodic territory. That is followed by
a few short riffs in free time, before returning to the main riff for a third verse around 5.50. The
main riff is repeated until about 6.40, when the song slowly starts accelerating, finishing in 20
seconds of psychedelic cacophony which is simply too much for many listeners.
The second track, I Talk to the Wind , provides a mellow rest after the dense amalgamation of
noises towards the conclusion of the first track. The song starts with a flute, before a double
tracked harmony vocal begins the main section of the song. It is a slow ballad, where the complex
drum lines are a lot lower in the mix, which allows for a softer, more melodic direction. Fripp s use
of a dark and jazzy guitar timbre lets the guitar s harmonics provide a smooth accompaniment for
the vocals and wind instruments. The major 7 chords also provide a slightly jazzy feel, before
moving to an F# minor 7, to resolve to a B major. This minor 7 gives a great suspended feel (in
place of a Bsus4), allowing Lake s vocals to follow a more fluid path. The wind driven ballad is
well mixed, but at times, the wind can be a little loud, and harsh in

Foreknowledge seems to be the hinge upon which these questions swing. Paul told the Romans
in Romans 8:27 30, ...and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes
all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to
His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the
image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He
predestined , He also called; and these whom He called, he also justified; and these whom He
justified, He also glorified. Paul follows these statements with the basic questions being explored
in this paper in Romans 8:31, What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is
against us? What does Paul mean by foreknowledge ? Whose knowledge and knowledge of
what? Equally important, if not more, is the question of fore . Does this mean before ? If so,
before what or who? Some argue that this foreknowledge speaks of God s knowledge for what each
man would believe and do before they actually believed and did, so that God s predestination,
calling, justifying and glorifying of each believer is based on each man s belief and

The Rate Of Unwanted Teenage Pregnancies And Sexually...
The rates of unwanted teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases are drastically
increasing. Sexual Education has become an effective way of enforcing safety precautions and
informing teens about healthy sexual activity. Sexual Education is the act of educating others about
intercourse, the anatomy of the human body, sexual reproduction, abstinence, and contraceptives.
Elizabeth Boskey, a STD expert, believes that schools should teach sex educationbecause of the
positive effects it has on the students. However, Sol Gordon believes that the parents should be
responsible for teaching their children about sex. Even though Elizabeth Boskey and Sol Gordon
take different stances on how sex education should be taught, they both agree that children should
be educated about sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and safe sex. In Elizabeth Boskey
s article, Top 10 Reasons to Support Comprehensive Education in Schools she supports sexual
education being taught in school. Boskey believes that schools cover the whole spectrum about safe
sex and that schools effectively teach the students. She proves that not only do the schools teach
abstinence, but the schools also teach their students how to engage in safe sex. Teaching the kids
about abstinence doesn t discourage the kids from engaging in sexual intercoursebut teaching the
kids about safe sex will allow them to engage in sex safely without endangering each other (Boskey
Par. 2). The school also presents

Critical View Into Philip Zimbardo s Stanford Prison...
Student Name: Course Title: Instructor: Submission Date: Critical view into Philip Zimbardo s
Stanford Prison Experiment Zimbardo s prison experiment continues to receive a lot of critics
from the manner in which it was carried out to the results that its portrayed. Some people believe
that as a psychologist, Zimbardo should have done a better job in trying to show how good can
turn into evil through the said experiment. The research also demonstrates the interaction between
the reality and the illusion which is also the concepts that Plato portrays in his analogy of light in a

Slowly the prisoners lost their identities as a person to their new identities and were content to
replace their names with prison numbers. As the experiments continued the guards fit into their
roles as the sadistic people well, the prisoners even turned against each other. However, a few
inmates could not adjust to the new lives in prison and had to drop out of the experiments.
(Martyn, 2008) The first critique is the claim in the findings of Zimbardo that in some very harsh
circumstances that good can turn into evil. Zimbardo goes further and questions what the real life
prisons do to the guard and prisoners who go in without the best idea as to the life they are
starting. From his observation, the experiment showed the changes in the behaviour of the guards
from their day of entry to the end. The previously compassionate and non violent people turn into
the authoritative figures that the prisoners fear. The deduction may have been wrong since even
the experiments may not have portrayed the human nature since the guards later indicated that
they only played the roles given and did what the warden expected of them. Unlike in Plato s case,
the sight was not a role played only the confinement but the observations of the analogy are far
more accurate since it is the sight and reaction to the light and shadows and the people s view that
entailed the observation. (Martyn, 2008) The criteria for choosing the

home prices of a metropolitan area based on the median income of that area. For a metropolitan

Does the relationship between income and home prices differ among metropolitan areas of

The Life And Times Of Al Capone Essay
The Life and Times of Al Capone
Alphonse Capone was born in New York City by two parents Gabriel and Teresa Capone. Capone s
parents immigrated to the United States in
1893 from Naples, Italy. Capone came from a large family and was the fourth oldest of nine
children. (Kobler 10). As a child, Capone was very wise when it came to living on the streets of
New York. He had a clever mind when it came to street smarts. As far as school goes, Capone was a
near illiterate. He came from a poor neighborhood in Brooklyn, so education was not a top priority.

Capone was very grateful to Torrio. Torrio first set Capone out to do all of his dirty work .
Capone was sent to beat up loan shark victims behind on their payments, then a pimp, beating up
girls who were holding out on their nightly take. Torrio finally got Capone a job as a bouncer at the
Harvard Inn. By this time Capone was recognized by his gang as being a vicious fighter with
both fists and knives. He also became an excellent marksman with both a revolver and automatic
weapons. This was due to many months of shooting empty bottles in the basement of the Inn.
Capone was later promoted to bartender at the Harvard Inn. At this time capone recieved the scar
which would give him his famous nickname, Scarface . It is really not known how Capone ended
up with a scar that extended four inches across his left cheek. Capone often lied about how he got
the scar.
On December 18, 1918, Capone was married at the age of 19, to a 21 year old Irish girl named Mae
Coughlin. A short time later Albert Francis
Capone was born to the couple. At the same time this was going on, in New
York, Johnny Torriomoved his operations to Chicago. Torrio s prospects in
New York looked low because Capone was charged for two murders. He was released when a

Masculinity In Brokeback Mountain
The typical western genre consists of characteristics that embody masculinity. From a genre
perspective, Brokeback Mountain is a great contrast to the typical western film. While the film

film, the Ennis and Jack face a conflict with themselves and a perceived notion of masculinity.
The two protagonists attempt to reassert their perception of manhood when it is questioned. The
resolve of the conflict when they meet at the end and become emotional establishes the disconnect

their masculine persona. In Brokeback Mountain, the character Ennis also

Difference Between Jane Eyre And Wide Sargasso Sea
Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte wrote their novels in distinctive time periods and originated
from diverse influences in writing. Jean Rhys novel, Wide Sargasso Sea is a fascinating
connection to Rochester s insane wife locked in a room. Rhys further represents Antoinette
while, Charlotte Bronte affirmed that it was left clarified (Thorpe 126) Antoinette, like Jane,
evolves in a world with a negligible measure of affection to offer. Both these characters are taken
care of by relatives, both had a lonely childhood, and both had lost their first companion. Jane is
competent in refusing to herself, the trademarks others put on her shape her character, while
Antoinette is baffled by having a body, soul and life. She is overlooked by everybody aside from
Josephine and has little correspondence with others. The characters bear a loss of personal
identity, psychologically and physically. Jane s fixation with Rochester, allows her feelings to
oppress her. Jane understands her fixation as she expresses, My future husband was becoming to

Unlike to Antoinette, who felt disengagement since a young age met a male who encounters the
same isolation, and looks all starry eyed at him. This feeling spares her from depression and ruins
her confinement, she no more needs to alienate from Rochester and other people. The relations of
Jane and Rochester vary from the relations of Rochester and Antoinette; due to Bronte s portrayal
both characters demolish their aloneness and discover essential worth in one another, they are
indistinguishable from various perspectives and cannot live separated. As Jane states, I am not

Prior to the war the Ordinance Bureau had decided to begin evaluating breech loading carbines
for the cavalry. Ripley opposed breech loaders or repeating rifles for infantry use. There was a
belief that they would waste ammunition, and were expensive. His main complaint was that the
production of these weapons would curtail production of carbines. He saw the inherent advantage
of the breechloader for mounted service. It was far simpler to reload from horseback than a
muzzle loading arm. Because of this there many options for domestic carbines at the start of the
war. The Sharps carbine was the weapon that the North wanted. The Sharps Company would
produce over eighty thousand carbines during the war. But these were not enough. In response to
the demand for carbines various other arms of good quality such as the Smith and Burnside were
acquired. Some others of lesser quality such as the Cosmopolitan and Maynard were also
purchased at this time. Carbine production was centered in Massachusetts also. Smith carbines, of
which large numbers were ordered by the Government, were built in part by Massachusetts Arms,
and in part by the nearby American Machine Works in Springfield (Edwards 102). This

The Success of The Simpsons Essay
The Success of The Simpsons
In recent years, a certain animated sitcom has caught the public s attention, evoking reactions that
are both favourable and unfavourable, but hardly ever apathetic.
As a brilliant, socially aware satire, Matt Groening s The Simpson s has effectively stirred different
emotions from different factions of the culturally deadened American populace and for this alone, it
should be recognised as quality programming. The Simpsons is a brutal satire of our society and our
family structures yet it offers several redeeming qualities such as feminism, endurance and most of
all humour.

The fact that the show works on several levels at once draws a generational diverse fan base. The
adults are attracted by the surprisingly sophisticated dialogue, while the children enjoy the clumsy
antics of Homer and the traditionally cartoonish aspects of the programme.
The Simpson s themselves are a simple family in a small town in Middle America called
Springfield. They are: Homer (loyal but stupid father), Marge (dissatisfied, trapped housewife
/ mother), Bart (rebellious son), Lisa (unappreciated genius daughter), and Maggie (silent baby).
The show also revolves around a number of other characters.
The members of the family have their own quirks and are constantly feuding amongst themselves.
The hilarious show portrays the ups and downs of the Simpson s which real families are said to
relate with, to a certain to degree. The highly provocative sitcom has revolutionised cartoons and
has bought humour and mixed feelings to a new audience than previously brought before.
The fact that all the characters in The Simpsons have four fingers shows that they are all unique
and unified community despite age and race, this also makes a good statement. The skin colour is
attractive to young viewers but also has meaning to older viewers, and different parts of the show
are aimed at different audiences.

Brittle Starfish Essay
The Life of a Brittle Starfish
The type of marine organism, which will be reported on within the following text, is the Brittle
Stars. The Brittle Star is also called the serpent star and a common name for a large group of
echinoderms closely related to the starfish. These organisms make up the class Ophiuroidea; another
common name for ophiuroidea is snake stars. These organisms can be found in all oceans but are
more abundant in the Tropics. Brittle stars can come in different colors.
2.0 General Features
Their bodies have a central disk that is demarcated from five arms, unlike true starfish. Their five
arms can be broken off quite easily, but will regenerate themselves. These arms are usually forked
and spiny. The brittle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2.1 Stereom
The plates that compose brittle starfish, ophiuroids and echinoderms is calcite along with other
organics. Though each plate is a single crystal of calcite, it doesn t take a typical crystalline form.
Below is a picture of the tooth socket, notice the holes.
2.2 Water Vascular System
Perhaps not as obvious is the water vascular system, another trait common to all echinoderms. By
examining the oral underside side of a brittle star, one will be able to see hundreds of tiny feet
usually arranged into several rows on each appendage of the star. These are the tube feet, or
podia, and are filled with seawater in brittle stars. The water vascular system within the body of
this species is also filled with seawater. By expanding and contracting chambers within the water
vascular system, the brittle star can force water into certain tube feet to extend them. The animal
has muscles in the tube feet, which are used to retract them. By expanding and retracting the right
tube feet in the proper order, the creature can walk. Many echinoderms can also form suckers on
the ends of their tube feet. These suckers can be used to capture and hold prey, or to hold onto
rocks in a swift current or tide.
3.0 Habitat
Brittle stars can be found in the warmest and coldest of the world s seas and have a broad
geographic range. Brittle stars can be found at various depths of the

The Role of Animals in the Unbearable Lightness of Being...
Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that
we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s
Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in
literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the
personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere,
certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the
animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans
towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both... Show more content on

A life that never ends?
He d turn his ruddy rump as if to say
Such life he neither bans nor recommends
We can see the monkey as a god now, a figure that even has power to give life that never ends, such
a contrast after the total mistreatment, above. We see how the animals determine human
characteristics: either overly mistreating, or overly obsessed.
In the poem, Cat in an empty apartment, Szymborska again criticizes the uncaring characteristic of
humans and the role of animals in the poem as a mere irritation or a vexation.
Die В– you can t do that to a cat
Since what can a cat do in an empty apartment?
Climb the walls?
Rub against the furniture? В…
From this we can perceive that animals in Szymborska s poems serve to prove that in their co
existence with humans, they are treated unfairly and the human characteristics of cruel superiority
over animals are evident in the works.
Later in the Unbearable Lightness of Being, Tomas and Tereza moves to a collective farm in Rural
Czechoslovakia after the Soviet takeover of 1969 to avoid the hardships caused by Tomas
criticism of the former Czechoslovak communist regime. There, they befriend the chairman of the
collective farm, who like Tereza, shares a close relationship with an animal companion: a pig
named Mephisto, which has been raised like a dog. Even though in the farms animals are
purposely raised to be slaughtered for eating use, Mephisto is treated like his best friend, even

Coy Mistress Tone
Rough Draft The writers of To His Coy Mistress and Coy Mistress use poetic devices such as
tone and imagery to create contrasting themes. Andrew Marvell, the writer of To His Coy
Mistress , wrote the poem persuasively, while Annie Finch, the author of Coy Mistress , wrote
her poem as a rebuttal to his persuasions, therefore contrasting each other in many ways. Marvell
creates a distinct tone for each stanza, these tones portray his deep, sincere desire as well as his
insincere flattering. In the first stanza, Marvell stated Two hundred (years) to adore each breast

The video, Dance Me Outside , did a great job of portraying the gross disregard for a Native

development are in the hands of the local government. Although it is important to consider the
wants and needs of society, the local governmentis responsible for determining the best way to

Relative Reactivities of Different Types of Hydrogen Atoms...
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relative reactivities of different types of
hydrogen atoms toward bromine atoms. Although the tested compounds were all arenes, their
reactivities differ as they contain different types of hydrogens. The hydrogens could be of three
different types and could also differ in being bonded to carbons that are attached to a different
number of other carbons. The three different types of hydrogens that could be found were
aromatic, aliphatic, and benzylic. The first category is aromatic hydrogens, which are attached to
sp2 carbons or are those directly bonded to an aromatic ring. Aromatic hydrogens are the least
reactive of the hydrogens in this experiment. The second type of hydrogen being investigated is
aliphatic hydrogens, which are found bonded to an SP3 hybridized carbon which are bonded to
another SP3 hybridized carbon. Aliphatic hydrogens can also be broken down into further
categories according to their number of substituents into primary (less reactive), secondary (more
reactive), and tertiary (most reactive). The third type of hydrogens are benzylic hydrogens, which
are bonded to a SP3 hybridized carbon that is bonded to a benzenering. Benzylic hydrogens are also
broken into primary and secondary categories according to their substituents, and are all more
reactive than aliphatic and aromatic hydrogens.

Perception Vs Reality In Paper Towns
Perceived Development vs. Harsh Reality The difference between a story and an impactful story
is the ability to portray a message to an audience. The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an
extremely impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this
story into film, Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the
book and therefore it was detrimental to the theme of Perceptionversus Reality. Q s character on
screen remained very one dimensional and was not able to truly see the reality of Margo Roth
Spiegelman as he does in the book. In a similar way, the movie did not show Margo s real self. It

This took away from the idea Perception versus Reality. In the book, it is discovered that,
despite what everyone thought, Margo was not always out experiencing new and exciting things.
Instead, she went urban exploring with upperclassmen and usually sat alone writing. One
character even said, She seemed pretty depressed actually. (Green 205). This detail gives more
depth to her character and makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the
screenplay. The audience was not able to get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery,
which takes away from the theme. At another point in the book, Q and his friends discover a
grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their presence in her barn. This moment shows
the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this shatters most of the amazing, cool
perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for both Margo s characterization and
Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it. Without these crucial aspects
of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to evolve and the idea of
Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the story of Paper Towns
and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of intellectual
appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. This loss of
characterization and intellect were caused by deliberate changes made in the movie, which is
unfortunate because it could have been prevented. Instead, the movie takes away from the whole
adventure and deeper meaning in the book. This forces Paper Towns into becoming a shallower

Who Was Charlemagne A Good Leader
Did you know that Charlemagne was a very great ruler with many traits? Some of his many
important traits were being a many influential person, he was smart, good political skills with
debate, great military campaign ideas, and healthy man. These traits made him a nice leader. From
researching this very interesting topic, I have learned much about Charlemagnehimself, his goods
and bads, and his influence for Hitler in World War 2.
I also think that Charlemagne was a smart person with talent. I believe that because Charlemagne
had a talent for languages and could speak Latin and understand Greek, and other languages. He

because the public goes to church. He also had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe this, because he took over most of Europe. This is proof, because it shows that he has
the power in the military to do so. I also think this because in one year, to make people turn
Christian, he killed 5,000 people. I think that is evident, because he can kill that many people in
one year. That is anbout 3 times less than the people killed per year in World War 1, and this war is
between 2 people. World War 2 was among 61 countries. That is a lot of people.
I say that Charlemagne was a great ruler. I believe this is important about Charlemagne, because
first of all Charlemagne served as an inspiration for many people such as Napoleon Bonaparte in
(1769 1821), and Adolf Hitler in (1889 1945). These people were inspired by him good and bad,
because he said that he had visions of ruling a unified Europe just like Napoleon Bonaparte and
Adolf Hitler said. Napoleon Bonaparte got influenced in a great way because he was a good

Natural Disasters In Spike Lee s When The Levees Broke
Disaster is no stranger to the city of New Orleans. Its unique geographic placement below sea level
makes the sinking city suitable for massive flooding. Its un American reputation, as discussed in

today. Although any form of disaster can occur anywhere, I believe in the notion that any response
that New Orleans may give in relation to its disasters is best understood through the people and
historical implications of those who have served as an at fault, underlying factor of the end result
that its citizens have faced.
New Orleans has been notable in recent history for its natural disasters, like hurricanes. The city
has been historically planned and built to protect it from an environment that may endanger its
citizens and the city landscape. However, whenever a natural disaster occurs, the question of how
its damage could have been minimized always appears after the fact. These are events that happen

The main method of socializing, according to my observation, is grooming. During the two hour

larger area of the body to be groomed. It should not for reducing anxiety or heart rate because
humans do not seem to be a threat to them since they see the presence of us every day.
From what I know, fruit forms 50% of their diet. However, the only food they can consume is
grass, which is only about 30% of their diet. They might have adopted this different diet, but it is
certain that they are not the same with wild gibbons anymore. On average, females reproduce for
the first time at about 11 years of age in the wild, much later than in captivity (Gron, 2010). Living

hemp plant, cannabis sativa, which can be smoked or eaten for unique feelings. The active
ingredient of marijuana, known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is concentrated in the flowering
tops of the Indian hempplant. In the USA, the legality of marijuana, found to be medically useful
by some, has been a controversial topic for decades (Nahas 1). Today, the 5,000 year medical
history of cannabishas been almost forgotten.
Cannabis sativa has been used therapeutically from the earliest records to the present day. Although
the Chinese and East Indian cultures knew about the properties of this drug from very early times,

As the AIDS epidemic became prevalent, patients began to use marijuana to decrease the pain
caused by AIDS and AIDS related diseases (Randall and O Leary 200). These new medical uses of
cannabis led to wider folk experimentation. The use of marijuana in the symptomatic treatment of
convulsive disorders, migraine, insomnia, and dysmenorrhea was rediscovered. During Richard
Nixon s campaign on the drug war in the 1970 s, beginning with the establishment of the Office of
Drug Abuse Law
Enforcement (ODALE), marijuana was then confined to Schedule I under the Controlled
Substances Act. This classified marijuana as a drug that has a high potential for abuse, lacks an
accepted medical use, and is unsafe for use under medical supervision (Miller
103).
In November 1996, California endorsed a change in the state s drug laws that contradicted the Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Office of National Drug
Control Policy (ONDCP). California voters approved Proposition 215, an initiative that made
marijuana legally available as a medicine in the United States for the first time in two generations.
Under the new law, patients or their caregivers who possess or cultivate marijuana for medical
treatment recommended by a doctor would not be subject to criminal prosecution. The
recommendation may be either written or oral and doctors cannot be penalized by the state for
making it. A similar but more

Benjamin Carson, born on September 18, 1951 is a world renowned neurosurgeon from Detroit,
Michigan. Growing up Carson lived in the projects of Detroit, making it hard for any young boy
to make a good life for himself. At the age of eight his parents divorced due to his father having an
affair. Ben and his older brother, Curtis, would solely be raised by their motherfrom then on. Their
mother would sometimes work three jobs at a time to try and make ends meet for her two boys.

quoted saying, I m not a politician, I don t want to be a politician because politicians do what is
politically expedient. I want to do what is right (Biography). During his campaign, the media
started questioning some of his early life. They did not believe he was awarded a full scholarship
to Yale, nor did they believe that he was violent when he was younger. CNN then conducted a
report talking to his neighbors and some of his old school teachers. (Biography). Carson was very
popular in the beginning of his campaign trail, but slowly started to lose voters. He then decided to
drop out of the presidential race. Carson would later endorse Donald J. Trump, and would be one of
his loyal supporters in the presidential race. When trump won the presidential election he
announced Ben Carson as his secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Trump later said in a statement, Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about

Mass Violence And The Effects Of Mass Shootings
Without a doubt there is a lot of violence on the news today, from mass shootings to murder almost

Fiscal Policy ( Private And Public )
For any economy, fiscal policy has two primary goals, an economic goal and a social goal.
Regarding the economic goal, fiscal policy has to ensure suitable and sustainable economic growth
rates that maintain unemployment rate at its natural level and at the same time do not generate
inflationary pressures. At social level, on the other hand, fiscal policy has to ensure a degree of
equity regarding the distribution of incomes in the economy, and to direct considerable part of
available resources toward essential investments that provide necessary goods and services
consumed mainly by the vast majority of population.
3.1 Evaluating the Economic Role of Fiscal Policy
Investment spending (private and public) is the main engine to stimulate economic growth.
Securing adequate savings is a prerequisite for any investment spending; however, investment
projects need not just to secure adequate funding to cover their investment costs during construction
periods, as they also need to secure adequate demand for their production to cover operational costs
and to obtain appropriate return on investment during operational periods. While fiscal policy is
playing a significant role in securing requirements of investment, domestic savings and aggregate
demand for domestic production; then it is considered a governor element in determining the extent
of investment prosperity and indispensible tool in correcting the imbalance between domestic
investment, consumption and savings.

Animals And Slavery In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Most people never really think about the fact that animals are actually slaves. People are not the
only ones who are known for being slaves. Animals are controlled and manipulated into doing
things against their will the same way slaves were while under the rule of the American colonists
before, during, and after the American Revolution. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell,
the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves and
controlled by a tyrant leader, like those of the American Revolution. The animals were treated like
the slaves of the American Revolution. Before the animals in the book revolted, they believed that
the life of an animal was normal. They did not understand that what was happening to them was a
form of slavery. The slaves knew that their lives were only going to amount of slavery, because
they understood that they were born into it and nothing was going to get them out of it except
for death. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth (Orwell 5). The
animals, like the slaves, knew not to expect anything different than slavery because they knew
they were born into it. Being slaves, they knew that they would only receive the bare minimum.
African American slaves were only given enough food so they could still work. We are born, we
are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies (Orwell 5). The animals, like the
slaves, were only given enough to make sure they could

Tesco deploys its strategies based on 5 elements: international retailing, growing its core UK
business, growing in the food as well as non food sector, developing retail services, and
considering the community as the heart of its operations. The 5th element was added recently in
2007 (Tesco, 2010). Over the years Tesco has seen growth and consistency in sales and profits. They
credit their management team, their strategy to invest in their employees as their catalyst in being
successful.
In 1985, Tesco announced the operations of its 100th superstore and in the following year it
announced its plan to invest ВЈ500 million in starting 29 more stores (Corporate Watch, 2004). The
beginning of the next decade saw Tesco basking on the success of its petrol filling stations to
become UK s largest private petrol retailer (Corporate Watch, 2004). The company introduced the
idea of developing new and different store concepts and better customer centric initiatives. In 1995
Tesco introduced a revolution in the food retailing market, the Tesco club (loyalty) card, which
provided offers and other benefits to customers and also helping the company learn more about its
customer s shopping patterns and needs (Cheffey Smith, 2010). Other customer centric services

The Cell Of Adult Stem Cells
A small subpopulation of the proliferating compartment, consisting of relatively undifferentiated
proliferative cells that maintain their population size when they divide, while at the same time
producing progeny that enter a dividing transit population within which further rounds of cell
division occur, together with differentiation events, resulting in the production of the various
differentiated function cells required of the tissue.13
This means that adult stem cells exist in small groups and are mostly undifferentiated, meaning the
cells have the capability to change into one or more cell types over time. While adult stem cells
can be pushed to differentiate into different cell types, they cannot become every cell type in the
body. This results in the adult stem celloffspring only being able to develop into only cell types
related to the tissue of origin. For example, neuronal stem cells may develop into nerve cells of
the brain or spinal cord, but not into cells of other organs, such as the liver. Adult stem cells are
also capable of homing to specific environments in the body and regenerating functional tissue after
injury.14 These additional functions of adult stem cells make them ideal candidates for therapeutic
stem cell medicine because they are able to be used in specific patients to help rebuild damaged
tissue, providing the patient with a better quality of life.
Stem cells can become many different types of cells, they provide researchers the ability to look

Prokaryotic Vs Eukaryotic Essay
Prokaryotic are organisms whose DNA is not confined within a membrane enclosed nucleus.
Prokaryotic organisms are single, but some prokaryotic organisms are multicellular. Eukaryotes are
organisms who cells are organized into complex structures by internal membranes and a
cytoskeleton. (Cundy, 2012) The most characteristic membrane bound structure is the nucleus.
Animals, plants, fungi, and protists are eukaryotic. Prokaryotic organisms are typically between
0.1 to 5.0 um in size while Eukaryotic organisms are between 5 10 um. Prokaryotic organisms have
pili, cytosol, ribosomes, capsule, cellwall, plasma membrane, DNA, and chromosome also known as
plasmids. (Cundy, 2012) They do not have a nucleus, lysosomes, microtubules, endoplasmic
reticulum,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what allows prokaryotes to attach to other surfaces. Cytosol is a water like fluid found in
the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm is inside the plasma membrane but outside the nucleus. The cell wall is
made of polysaccharides just outside the plasma membrane and its made of cellulose. (Cundy,
2012) The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell with a layer made of phospholipids.
DNA is a double polymer of nucleotides that store genetic information. DNA stands for
Deoxyribonucleic Acid with a phosphate group of four nitrogenous bases which are adenine,
cytosine, guanine, and thymine. The largest organelle is the nucleus. The nucleus contains DNA.
The mitochondria have a double membrane and it is known for supplying energy to the cell.
Ribosomes produce proteins. These ribosomes can be found in the cytosol of cells. The nucleolus
is what makes ribosomes and RNA. Lysosomes have digestive enzymes. The endoplasmic
reticulum is an inner membrane system that makes some proteins. (Cundy, 2012) There are two
endoplasmic reticulum, one is rough and the other is smooth. The rough endoplasmic reticulum has
ribosomes on it while the smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not have ribosomes on them. The
Golgi apparatus prepares proteins to be taken out of the cell. The vacuole is storage for water and
other nutrients a call may need and this is most commonly found in plant cells. The cytoskeleton
shapes the cell wall and consists of protein

  • 2. OP-20-G s Invasion Of The Navy In Melbourne, Melbourne A combat intelligence bulletin from HYPO was subsequently sent to the British Eastern Fleet, the CNS at Melbourne, and the New Zealand Naval board, allowing the other Allies to utilize America s intelligence findings (176). Meanwhile, after the Singapore surrender to the Japanese, the team at station CAST became even more isolated. Realizing the team s importance to the area, OP 20 G had them evacuated, first to Bandung to join a Dutch radio intelligence team, then to Melbourne when that location also went under Japanese control. The international group of analysts in Melbourne formed the Fleet Radio Unit, Melbourne, also known as FRUMEL. Admiral Glassford, commander of US naval forces in the area, helped facilitate the incorporation of station CAST into the Royal Australian Navy, into which the team of experts was welcomed with open arms (170 171). ... Thanks to Allied progress in deciphering JN 25, Japan s plan to press south to Moresby was identified. The US navy was able to thwart the invasion of Port Moresby in the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 7, 1942. For the first time in the Pacific war, American intelligence had been able to give adequate warning of enemy plans (Bath 178). This was due to collaboration among agencies to decipher codes, and the newfound dedication of the agencies to report their findings. The trend was to continue in the Battle of ... • 3. The Shia Branch Last but not least is a religion that has about one point five billion followers and is the purest of the western monotheisms, Islam. Most of the people who follow Islam are located in Indonesia. The meaning of Islam stands for submission, in Islam people are too submit themselves to God. Islam is monotheistic because they believe in one God, which Allah is believed to be the God while a man named Muhammadis Gods prophet. Muhammad was known to spread the message of monotheism while many people were still polytheistic. He fled to to a city called Medina to escape persecution. This was a huge event for the religion and was the start of the first year of the Islamic calendar. Similar to Christianity, Islamhas a very important scripture that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I mean when I say totally different is that the Sunni branch is more optimistic while the Shia branch leans more towards pessimism. The Sunni branch is the largest and it takes up about eighty five percent of Muslims leaving the Shia branch with only fifteen percent. The main issue of the branches is that they didn t both agree on who should lead the community after Muhammad passed. The Sunni branch believed it should have been a group decision on who takes charge next, while the Shia did not agree with that and they thought that it should have went to Muhammad s cousin, Ali. The Shia is also all about free will and symbolism rather than determinism and literal attributes like Sunni. Its hard to believe groups like Al Qaeda that committed the nine eleven terrorism attacks are apart of the Sunni branch and not the Shia since we consider these attacks harshly negative and definitely not positive. Not all Muslims are terrorists though, that was just one example of the two different branches of Islam that I discussed. Above are the most important factors that influence the religion of Islam and the way of life of the Muslim ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ethics Initially, my personal values distracted from my ability to sympathize with Bernard Ebbers conviction. His defense team argued that the trial judge wrongly instructed the jury that it could convict Mr. Ebbers on the basis that he engaged in conscious avoidance of the fraud at WorldCom. It is evident that Ebbers took a blind eye to any consideration to analyze the good stuff from the bad stuff in this situation. He failed to calculate the considerations of utility and as a result he is paying the consequences through a substantial decrease in his quality of life. Currently he is serving a 25 year sentence as inmate #56022 054 for 25 years in the Oakdale Federal Correctional Complex in Louisiana. His earliest date to be considered for good... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deception, whether intentional or not, did occur. The shareholders had a right to know the financial state of WorldCom. In Ebber s defense, he had unscrupulous bed fellows on this board. Their intentions are also at question especially regarding their eagerness to grant Mr. Ebbers a breathtaking loan for $341 million dollar at an interest rate of 2% to shield the instability of the company s financial situation from shareholders. There were also some concerns whether such loans were ethical from the Security Exchange Commission Enforcement official Seth Taube. He stated that large loans to senior executives are commonly sweetheart deals involving interest rates that constitute a poor return on company assets. Federal prosecutors in New York cited Ebbers s expensive lifestyle, and his overspending, as a motive to hide WorldCom s mounting financial troubles. The impropriety associated with the largest loan any publicly traded company has lent to one of its officers in recent memory is evident. Unfortunately, if Ebbers had pressed the matter and sold his stock, he would have escaped the bankruptcy financially whole, but Ebbers honestly thought WorldCom would recover. The series of clever manipulations to bury almost $4 billion in misallocated expenses and phony account entries discovered by Cynthia Copper s team threw open Pandora s box. Ms. Cooper, a senior line manger, who worked for the WorldCom, CFO, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast William Bradfords And Of Plymouth... In John Smith s, Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles, and William Bradford s, Of Plymouth Plantation, they discuss their lifestyle and adventure in the colonies. They also use specific literary styles and techniques to describe to the reader of their unbelievable experiences. In addition, both passages have many similarities and differences amongst each other involving their writing. They are similar because they both tell a story, have a narrativestyle, use imagery and repetition, and discuss religion. On the other hand, they are not alike because they have different styles, tones, and purposes. The literary styles and techniques of John Smith s, Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles, and William Bradford s, Of Plymouth Plantation, are similar in many ways. Both passages tell a story and have a narrative style. They both use imagery and repetition to describe their experiences. Lastly, they both discuss religion in their writing. John Smith talks about how the tassel was as a coronet of feathers, the skins hanging round about his head, back, and shoulders and in a manner covered his face (Smith 50). He is using imagery and being very descriptive of what the Indians looked like when they were dancing around their food. He wanted the readers the have a good understanding of the Indians and to picture what the situation was like. William Bradford does this as well. He states, After some hours sailing it began to snow and rain, and about the middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fracking Industry Analysis Over one and a half million people have watched the video where the family holds a match under their faucet claiming that the water was polluted with methane due to the local fracking operation yet not all 1.8 million people have investigated fracking and if it is a benefit or danger. But some industry professionals have and provided their insight into the fracking process. Professionals such as Fred Dews of the Brookings Institute who argues that there are numerous economic benefits to fracking and that is positively effects more people than you d think while Chemical Engineer Ross Topliff of Tops Engineering believes that the potential health issues outweigh any benefits that come with the process but the fact remains that the dangers are... We cannot allow fracking to be stopped due to the misconceptions about safety, as this only stalls and hinders, what would a growing benefit to the community. • 7. The Golden Princess Persuasive Speech As the princess waves her hand slightly to the right, signaling that the young man should choose the right door, the man starts to cautiously make his way towards it. Just before he could grab the silver lever, he thinks to himself, What if the princess knew I was going to pick the right door leading me to the lady, instead of leading me to the ferocious maneating tiger? Why would she want me to be with another woman whom she thinks is dire? I cannot go through with this barbaric decision. In one instant, the young man turns swiftly to look back at the Princess, who is staring at him with fear and softly mouthing to him, Choose the right door. He disregards her and turns to the left door, which is latched by an enormous silver lever and he opens it with ease. While the young man tries to see through the blackness, the princess quietly gets up from her seat and sneaks out of the arena. The crowd gasps and cheers as the young man and the beating red tiger s eyes meet. The man s palms start sweating as the the orange and black beast slowly backs him into the door of from which he entered. Looking above him, he sees that the crowd as well as the king, are smiling and laughing at him as if it was amusing, but the princess is nowhere in sight. As the young man starts to scan the crowd for the princess, his thoughts are broken by an enormous bang! This was written in Rhodesia in the 1890s for the people interested in learning about life under European rule. This was a primary source because the author was the leader of his people during this time and so he got to experience the ways the British took away the power of his people first hand. This document shows that the effects of imperialism were negative for Africa because the British took away their land and animals. Another example of how the effects of imperialism were economically negative is on document #4. document #4 was written by Elinor Burns who was a British writer and Marxist (fought for the rights of workers). He wrote this in West Africa, 1927 for the people interested in British imperialism in West Africa and said that food supplies that were grown in colonies made a lot of money (cash crops). • 10. The Classification System Of Mental Health Disorders The classification system of mental health disorders is the foundation for diagnosis, assessment, intervention, and research. The necessity that this classification system provides a empirically supported framework for the conceptualization of mental health disorders cannot be overstated. Currently, mental health fields around the world rely primarily on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders5th Edition (DSM 5; APA, 2013) and the International Classification of Diseases 10th Edition (ICD 10; WHO, 1992), with providers from Western countries like the United States relying almost exclusively on the DSM 5. Second, this paper will discuss ways in which a dimensional approach exists in the DSM 5. Lastly, this paper will describe RDoC as a response to the failures of the categorical approach, and explain how RDoC has led to a change in psychopathology research. The Traditional Categorical Approach Prior to DSM 5, the American Psychiatric Association was very clear that the DSM is a categorical classification that divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features, (APA, 2000). Specifically, the developers of the DSM conceptualized mental health disorders as polythetic, meaning there are specific features that comprise each disorder, but these features are neither necessary nor sufficient (Carragher, Krueger, Eaton, Slade, 2015; Widiger, Trull, 2007). The underlying assumptions are that a mental health disorder is caused by a specific pathology, and a category, or prototype can represent a qualitative distinction between normality and abnormality. It is intended that clinicians use the DSM to determine which disorder best explains a patient s symptoms based on the given diagnostic criteria, which represent an operational ... • 11. Dbq Cuban Missile Crisis Justified, righteous, fair, and reasonable. Alike in definition, these words can all be used to describe the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba. America had tried to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro on numerous occasions, the Soviets who were allies with Cuba decided it was time to step in and support their comrades. In October 1962, a two week matter took place, after an American spy plane found 40 nuclear missiles installed by the Soviets, in Cuba, the event later became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Americans did not approve of these Soviet missiles, because they were 90 miles away from their country, but Khrushchev was not satisfied with the U.S. having missiles pointed at his country either. This led to a small dispute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First off, the U.S planned an attack called the Bay of Pigs, which was one of their tactics to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. Their plan was to train exiled Cubans so that they could be sent to Cuba in effort to overthrow Castro. ( The Bay of Pigs ).The installation of missiles were to further prevent any events like this of happening, so it gave the USSR every reason to continue to defend their ally who was being attacked. On top of that, the Soviets did not even retort in aggression, even though it would have been reasonable if they did. Why could they have not placed missiles in Cuba if they decided to not retaliate in violence? Months later, America scheduled Operation Mongoose yet another tactic to kill Castro. They attempted to have Castro removed, overthrown, and out of office in Cuba, but did not succeed ( The Bay of Pigs Invasion and Its Aftermath ). After the second time America tried to overthrow Castro it definitely justified the Soviet storing of missiles. The saying The first time is a mistake, but the second time is a choice, applies to this situation. Cuba being attacked by the Americans the first time was kind of like the mistake in the saying but the second attempt of invasion can be compared to the choice in the saying. The final quote that proves the Soviet missiles were defensive comes from Khrushchev, we were very grieved...that an attack on Cuba was committed, as a result of which many Cubans perished. You yourself told me then that this had been a mistake. I respected that explanation (Khrushchev). A summary of Khrushchev s word is that he responded kindly to the attempted attacks and did not try to overrun America after their acts of violence, even though he had the option to do so. That is followed by a few short riffs in free time, before returning to the main riff for a third verse around 5.50. The main riff is repeated until about 6.40, when the song slowly starts accelerating, finishing in 20 seconds of psychedelic cacophony which is simply too much for many listeners. The second track, I Talk to the Wind , provides a mellow rest after the dense amalgamation of noises towards the conclusion of the first track. The song starts with a flute, before a double tracked harmony vocal begins the main section of the song. Paul told the Romans in Romans 8:27 30, ...and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Paul follows these statements with the basic questions being explored in this paper in Romans 8:31, What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? What does Paul mean by foreknowledge ? Whose knowledge and knowledge of what? Equally important, if not more, is the question of fore . Does this mean before ? If so, before what or who? (Martyn, 2008) The first critique is the claim in the findings of Zimbardo that in some very harsh circumstances that good can turn into evil. Zimbardo goes further and questions what the real life prisons do to the guard and prisoners who go in without the best idea as to the life they are starting. From his observation, the experiment showed the changes in the behaviour of the guards from their day of entry to the end. The previously compassionate and non violent people turn into the authoritative figures that the prisoners fear. The deduction may have been wrong since even the experiments may not have portrayed the human nature since the guards later indicated that they only played the roles given and did what the warden expected of them. • 31. Relative Reactivities of Different Types of Hydrogen Atoms... The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relative reactivities of different types of hydrogen atoms toward bromine atoms. Although the tested compounds were all arenes, their reactivities differ as they contain different types of hydrogens. The hydrogens could be of three different types and could also differ in being bonded to carbons that are attached to a different number of other carbons. The three different types of hydrogens that could be found were aromatic, aliphatic, and benzylic. The first category is aromatic hydrogens, which are attached to sp2 carbons or are those directly bonded to an aromatic ring. Aromatic hydrogens are the least reactive of the hydrogens in this experiment. The second type of hydrogen being investigated is aliphatic hydrogens, which are found bonded to an SP3 hybridized carbon which are bonded to another SP3 hybridized carbon. Aliphatic hydrogens can also be broken down into further categories according to their number of substituents into primary (less reactive), secondary (more reactive), and tertiary (most reactive). The third type of hydrogens are benzylic hydrogens, which are bonded to a SP3 hybridized carbon that is bonded to a benzenering. Benzylic hydrogens are also broken into primary and secondary categories according to their substituents, and are all more reactive than aliphatic and aromatic hydrogens. What essentially happens in these reactions is that first, light breaks the bond between two bromine atoms, from a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Perception Vs Reality In Paper Towns Perceived Development vs. Harsh Reality The difference between a story and an impactful story is the ability to portray a message to an audience. The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an extremely impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this story into film, Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the book and therefore it was detrimental to the theme of Perceptionversus Reality. Q s character on screen remained very one dimensional and was not able to truly see the reality of Margo Roth Spiegelman as he does in the book. In a similar way, the movie did not show Margo s real self. It was distorted by other s perceptions of her. Without these key developments in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This took away from the idea Perception versus Reality. In the book, it is discovered that, despite what everyone thought, Margo was not always out experiencing new and exciting things. Instead, she went urban exploring with upperclassmen and usually sat alone writing. One character even said, She seemed pretty depressed actually. (Green 205). This detail gives more depth to her character and makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the screenplay. The audience was not able to get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery, which takes away from the theme. At another point in the book, Q and his friends discover a grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their presence in her barn. This moment shows the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this shatters most of the amazing, cool perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for both Margo s characterization and Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it. Without these crucial aspects of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to evolve and the idea of Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the story of Paper Towns and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of intellectual appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. This loss of characterization and intellect were caused by deliberate changes made in the movie, which is unfortunate because it could have been prevented. Instead, the movie takes away from the whole adventure and deeper meaning in the book. This forces Paper Towns into becoming a shallower and more linear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regarding the economic goal, fiscal policy has to ensure suitable and sustainable economic growth rates that maintain unemployment rate at its natural level and at the same time do not generate inflationary pressures. At social level, on the other hand, fiscal policy has to ensure a degree of equity regarding the distribution of incomes in the economy, and to direct considerable part of available resources toward essential investments that provide necessary goods and services consumed mainly by the vast majority of population. 3.1 Evaluating the Economic Role of Fiscal Policy Investment spending (private and public) is the main engine to stimulate economic growth. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves and controlled by a tyrant leader, like those of the American Revolution. The animals were treated like the slaves of the American Revolution. Before the animals in the book revolted, they believed that the life of an animal was normal. • 47. Manic Depression Chapter Summaries Summary Summary: The book is based on a child named Andy who was 6 7 years old who was experiencing bipolar but was not diagnosed due to the lack of medical practices not yet available during the time. He suffers from bipolar, manic depressions, which lead to series of manic episodes and being intoxicated following drugs that made matters worse. As we all series amount manic episodes have their high and low moments hence this provoked him to use vulgar behavior which leads to series of felonies and jail time totaling five months imprisonment and five month term of house arrest. The reason for these compulsive acts because was not diagnosed early on his life. He received lithium and Prozac from Dr. Kleinman that didn t work for him hence the pills aren t working nor can fall asleep. The symptoms of manic depression come in diverse strengths and sizes. ... His life mainly involved with alcohol, drugs, sex and money, as well trying to live a whole life in one day. He preoccupied himself with working extremely long shifts, earning plenty of money and spending it as rapidly due to urges. He was diagnosed later in his life and a combination of medication was provided to help his case but failed to work correctly. His last option was electroshock therapy as suggested by Dr. Fried but has consequences and side effects, particularly memory loss. Andy went through a total of 20 sessions with 200 volts of electricity while electric chair. Electric current grows through my brain for an instant, causing a grand mal seizure for 20 seconds. They finally put an end to the ECT. Dr.Fried finds a combination of drugs that suppress manic depression allowing him to continue his day to day activities with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Rough Set Theory was proposed by Polish scholar Pawlak in... Rough Set Theory was proposed by Polish scholar Pawlak in [10] . The in tegrity and the uncertainty of information in the eld of articial intelligence is described in mathematical tool by it . It is a powerful tool for managing uncertainty that arises from inexact, noisy, or incomplete information. It also shown to be methodologically signicant in the domains of articial intelli gence and cognitive science, especially in respect of the representation of and the reasoning with imprecise knowledge, machine learning, and knowledge discovery [10][11][12]. Calculation for reduction of an information system is a key problem in rough set theory [10][6][14]. It is well known that an information system 1 or a decision system may usually have ... Wroblewski [16] proposed a hybrid genetic algorithm to construct the control sequence . But in his method, the genetic opera tors are complex .In this paper, we introduce a classic heuristic strategy into genetic algorithm and propose a heuristic genetic algorithm. And we just consider relative minimal reduction in this paper. Genetic algorithm is a searching approach [8] that is based on natural genetic mechanism and natural reduction. Using the strategy of survival of the ttest in the nature, the algorithm uses random genetic operators to generate several new solutions, eliminates the poorer, and keeps the better and promising ones. The information of the ttest solutions is constantly utilized to search for the new unknown area of the searching space. Its show e ective use of historic information that makes every search moving forward according to the best direction, genetic algorithm is similar to simulated annealing algorithm and tabu searching [9]. As a result, genetic algorithm is not only a random searching approach, but also a directing random searching approach. In this paper, we use Genetic Algorithm(GA), called Genetic Algorithm 2 for Attribute Reduction (GAAR), to solve the attribute reduction problem in rough set theory.(GAAR) uses a 0 1 variable representation of ... • 49. The Cell Of Adult Stem Cells A small subpopulation of the proliferating compartment, consisting of relatively undifferentiated proliferative cells that maintain their population size when they divide, while at the same time producing progeny that enter a dividing transit population within which further rounds of cell division occur, together with differentiation events, resulting in the production of the various differentiated function cells required of the tissue.13 This means that adult stem cells exist in small groups and are mostly undifferentiated, meaning the cells have the capability to change into one or more cell types over time. While adult stem cells can be pushed to differentiate into different cell types, they cannot become every cell type in the body. This results in the adult stem celloffspring only being able to develop into only cell types related to the tissue of origin. For example, neuronal stem cells may develop into nerve cells of the brain or spinal cord, but not into cells of other organs, such as the liver. Adult stem cells are also capable of homing to specific environments in the body and regenerating functional tissue after injury.14 These additional functions of adult stem cells make them ideal candidates for therapeutic stem cell medicine because they are able to be used in specific patients to help rebuild damaged tissue, providing the patient with a better quality of life. Stem cells can become many different types of cells, they provide researchers the ability to look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Prokaryotic Vs Eukaryotic Essay Prokaryotic are organisms whose DNA is not confined within a membrane enclosed nucleus. Prokaryotic organisms are single, but some prokaryotic organisms are multicellular. Eukaryotes are organisms who cells are organized into complex structures by internal membranes and a cytoskeleton. (Cundy, 2012) The most characteristic membrane bound structure is the nucleus. Animals, plants, fungi, and protists are eukaryotic. Prokaryotic organisms are typically between 0.1 to 5.0 um in size while Eukaryotic organisms are between 5 10 um. Prokaryotic organisms have pili, cytosol, ribosomes, capsule, cellwall, plasma membrane, DNA, and chromosome also known as plasmids. (Cundy, 2012) They do not have a nucleus, lysosomes, microtubules, endoplasmic reticulum,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is what allows prokaryotes to attach to other surfaces. Cytosol is a water like fluid found in the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm is inside the plasma membrane but outside the nucleus. The cell wall is made of polysaccharides just outside the plasma membrane and its made of cellulose. (Cundy, 2012) The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell with a layer made of phospholipids. DNA is a double polymer of nucleotides that store genetic information. DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid with a phosphate group of four nitrogenous bases which are adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine. The largest organelle is the nucleus. The nucleus contains DNA. The mitochondria have a double membrane and it is known for supplying energy to the cell. Ribosomes produce proteins. These ribosomes can be found in the cytosol of cells. The nucleolus is what makes ribosomes and RNA. Lysosomes have digestive enzymes. The endoplasmic reticulum is an inner membrane system that makes some proteins. (Cundy, 2012) There are two endoplasmic reticulum, one is rough and the other is smooth. The rough endoplasmic reticulum has ribosomes on it while the smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not have ribosomes on them. The Golgi apparatus prepares proteins to be taken out of the cell. The vacuole is storage for water and other nutrients a call may need and this is most commonly found in plant cells. The cytoskeleton shapes the cell wall and consists of protein ...
