Warren Buffet s Life Story
WARREN BUFFET
Rightly called as the Oracle of Omaha , Warren Buffet is the guru of investments and one of the
wealthiest and revered businessmen in the world. With a net worth of $72.7 Billion, he is the
third richest man in the world as of 2015. Warren Buffet is an out and out self made man. He is the
epitome of discipline and wisdom in the investment arena. So how did he reach this pinnacle? His
life story shows he has grown from a boy with a simple childhood to a teen who learnt from his
mistakes; then to a man with successful entrepreneurships and ultimately to a magnanimous
business magnate.
He was born Warren Edward Buffett on August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska to a father who was

buying companies such as The Washington post, Geico and Exxon respectively.
In recent times, Warren Buffettpulled off his biggest deal ever in August 2015, when his

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels
Cameron Aiello
Professor Lund
Final Paper
14 May 2017
Throughout all of Jonathan Swift s writings there are many commonalities. One in particular
that stands out is the use of satire throughout both Gulliver s Travels , which tells the story of a
series of voyages of Lemuel Gulliver s published in 1726, and A Modest Proposal , where Swift
uses the idea of cannibalism to captivate his audience as well as focus on society s problems.
Throughout Swift s life, politics and religion had a huge impact on him and more importantly, his
writing. Many of the satires that Swift uses in his works have to do with politics and the changing
ways of the Catholic church in the 1800 s.
A Modest Proposal written in 1729, was a satire written to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Swift is using this quotation to show that he cares about the poor and struggling people and he
really wants to help them. This is also a different type of writing from Swift, who usually is
always criticizing someone rather than showing empathy for them. But since Swift disagrees
with the English so much, he chooses to write about it and make those with wealth and power
look evil and selfish. Swift who chose not to make it known he was writing this satire, continues
to bash England on page 509 by saying, I fortunately fell upon this proposal; which, as it is
wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expence, and little trouble, full in our own
power; and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England: for this kind of commodity
will not bear exportation; the flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long
continuance in salt; although, perhaps, I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up
our whole nation without it . Here, once again Swift shows that England has no problem with
the Irish starving and not being able to survive or make money as long as the rich and powerful
are facing no hardships. Also by using the words eat up he is going back to the idea of
cannibalism, not by the poor but by the wealthy who are taking what is left of the the other nations
to become more powerful and to gain more

Sex In High School Sex
Seems like there s only one choice: The downsides of being a slut
Kann, who did research on high school sex for the CDC, reports that [i]n 2015, 41% of high
school students reported having sexual intercourse (Kann Youth Risk Recapp). These results show
evidence that nearly half of all high school students are engaging in sexual intercourse. Out of this
group, studies by the Kaiser Family Foundation find startling facts like the idea that [a]ccording to
a 1994 study, every year an estimated one in four sexually active teens contracts a sexually
transmitted infection (STI) (Kaiser Family Foundation U.S. Teen Sexual ). Many students will then
receive sexually transmitted infections and further spread them. As the Youth Risk Behavior
Surveillance states, Nationwide, 41.2% of students had ever had sexual intercourse, 30.1% had
had sexual intercourse during the 3 months before the survey (i.e., currently sexually active), and
11.5% had had sexual intercourse with four or more persons during their life (Kann. L, et al,
youth risk ). This wide range of sexual partners in a high school setting greatly distributes very
dangerous sexually transmitted diseases. As UNAIDS, a global effort to end aids foundation s
research, states, 1 million [830 000 1.2 million] people died from AIDS related illnesses in 2016
(UNAIDS Fact sheet latest statistics ). Not only does the HIV affect younger children, but it has

Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles
Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the
earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to
die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world
would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies,
we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that
human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea
turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for
other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away.
Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100
million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to
beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle
population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and
rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there
are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have
been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a
healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some
populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an
important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep
oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in
many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that
eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it
grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea
grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass
beds provide breeding grounds for many

Essay about History At Its Best
The modern era stands out as a time of great change. Throughout history, it is undoubtedly the
period of time in which the most advancement has occurred in society, in the shortest amount of
time. The three books, The Interesting Narrative, by Olaudah Equiano, Victors and Vanquished,
by Stuart B. Schwartz, and A Social Contract, by Jean Jeacques Rousseau, each provide a view of
the modern era in their own individual ways. Olaudah Equiano s account of his life as a slave is
directed at the problem of slavery. Stuart B. Schwartz Victors and Vanquished, provides a collection
of personal accounts about the conquest of Mexico under the command of Hernando Cortes. Lastly,
Rousseau s, A Social Contract, expounds upon the problems that... Show more content on

Olaudah s writing includes his own take on slavery, and in the conclusion of his book, he
reveals his appeal to the public in order to end slavery. He argues on several bases which would
appeal to the public of modern society. He gives them the account of slavery s horrors, and then
takes on moral, economical, religious, and lawful standpoints, in order to persuade the public that
slavery is an ill to society, especially in a time of positive growth.
Olaudah wrote a revised introduction to his readers,
Pumarejo 3
stating that his purpose, or rather the purpose of his book, is to, be the means, in it s measure,
of showing the enormous cruelties practiced on my sable brethren, and strengthening the
genuine emulation now prevailing in this country, to put a speedy end to a traffic both cruel
and unjust. (Equiano 1745, 5) This is written after the book s first release, and shows the
purpose of his writing, referring to the effect it has had on the fight for slavery s abolishment. In
his writings, Olaudah challenges the practice of slavery by an appeal to the senses. His story is
obviously one of horror, and through telling it he hopes that the readers will evoke in themselves
compassion towards his calling. He admits that his case is a rare one, and alludes to the greater
horrors that many other slaves were forced to endure.
I think the most interesting, and relevant, arguments that Olaudah makes, is not on the basis of the
horrible treatment

Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage
The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international
trade theory.
A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it
can produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares
industry productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an
absolute advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the
existence of reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods,
there are obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to
those countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively
efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that
Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export
surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantageis considered a different
story emerges.
Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat
has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are
foregone. Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are
foregone if Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize.
Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of
maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of
maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of
wheat. In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses
produce should then be traded.
We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results
from the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute
advantage is quite intuitive.

Minimum Wage Persuasive Essay
Randy Oczkowski Mrs. Kenny March 25, 2013 Persuasive Essay $7.25 equals two gallons of
gas, one fast food meal, or a simple school supply. With the minimum wage at the current rate
you must work one hour to earn the seven dollars and twenty five cents that only supply you
with small necessities for everyday living. This problem was encountered before and was
resolved with the agreement to higher the minimum wage from $5.85 to the current $7.25.
Although that was a big increase in salaries, was it truly enough? This controversy can lead to a
major change in everyone s everyday lives and boost our economy to a period of prosperity. The

With a higher rate, students can save more money helping with later on expenses. These students
will be able to look into their future but, this time, with less debt due to student loans. Increasing
the minimum wage will take off a burden for student loans, country wide. Branching off of
financial aid for education, think of all the other financial benefits that the government offers.
Such as social security, food stamps, and healthcare. With the prosperity of our economy, these
things will be less of a burden on our government and everyday tax payers. This increase in
minimum wage will help everyone overall. Health care will become cheaper due to the fact that
companies are paying their employees a fixed rate that they can live comfortably with. As the
rate increases we will see the use of food stamps dwindle. There will be no need for these food
stamps when families can afford their groceries and necessities with their own cash, due to a
higher minimum wage. Social Security will gain more money from the employee s checks,
helping later generations. This higher income will give the elderly more support with their social
security income. When the minimum wage is higher, our daily and life lasting necessities will be
benefited greatly. Our economy is a major reason whether you pursue a future of prosperity or
poverty. The economy today is slowly crawling back to prosperity. Although it may take a

Making Decisions Based on Demand and Forecasting

Managerial Economics and Globalization October 20, 2012 1. Report the demographic and
independent variables that are relevant to complete a demand analysis providing a rationale for
the selection of the variables. The independent variables for this report will be population, average
income per household, age of population, and the price of pizza. A key determinant of demand is
the population of the area in question and as we will see in this report, growth will play a positive
factor. The ultimate concern is can the city sustain another pizza delivery entity at its current

Justify the assumptions made related to the forecast. Using the demand function I came up with
the following four (4) year forecast for pizzas sold. |Year |Sold |Population |Median Household
Income |Price | |2011 |$681,300.87 |61,240 |$29,135.00 |$10.00 | |2012 |$699,299.67 |62710

|65756 |$29,822.00 |$10.09 | I based the population growth assumption by taking the 2011
estimation from the Census Bureau, which was 2.4% increase from 2010, and applied to each
year (Census Bureau, 2012). For the median household income, I applied .78% increase for each
year based on the average growth from 2006 to 2010. For 2011, I left the price of pizza the same
and increase by .3% thereafter. The price of pizza over the years has not grown in comparison to
population and income, however; I felt that the price should increase given basic inflation. Based on
the forecasting demand, determine whether Dominos should establish a

This novel falls into the category of historical fiction for many reasons. Of course, the fact that
that the novel is based on the 1793 Yellow Fever Epidemic in Philadelphia is one of them.
Matilda and the other characters in the book are fictional characters, but some of the events
taking place happened to real life people during this time period. In the story, Mattie witnesses
her mother become ill with the fever, falls ill of it herself and helps take care of many others
who are sick as well. The symptoms explained in the story are directly correlated with those that
the real people of Philadelphia experienced when ill with the fever. When researching the
epidemic, i learned that some of the third phase symptoms of yellow fever are jaundice, vomiting
blood, shock and multi organ failure leading to death. The author describes all of these things in
the novel through the eyes of Mattie. She describes the symptoms when talking about her mother
when saying that, the fever had taken hold of her symptoms and she wept, calling my father s

of yellow and red, and when she talks about her mother being violently ill and vomiting blood all

society and everything created to make you happier. But there is one question that one will ask
at least once in a life time, Is the things I think of as entertainment ruining the society or not?
Well in my opinion I say yes and no meaning I agree, but in only certain cases. For example, I

but I think Snap Chat, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are all a waste of time and do the exact opposite of

These are only two of many different types of entertainment that isn t ruining the society.
Secondly, the sad and boring part, where I tell you about the things you love to do and how
horrible they are for the society. And yes that is exactly what I am going to be doing in this

There are two board approaches of TQM, which are hard approach and soft approach (Hill, 1991).
The hard approach used the statistical methods to emphasize continuous improvement and get
better result of productivity and profits whereas soft approach is to create strong organization
culture and meet customers demand by focusing on leadership, employee involvement and culture
change (Fotopoulos Psomas, 2009). So, there are three TQM fundamental pillars according to most
TQM approaches, which are top management commitment, continuous improvement and employee
involvement (Slack, Chambers Johnston, 2007). Top managers can improve the performance and
effectively change the culture of an organization (Kaynak, 2013) in ensuring the successful

Maus Sparknotes
Maus is a tale about a young man who is in search for answers about his own life and his father s
life. Vladek Spiegelman is a survivor of the holocaust who reconnects with his son Art
Spiegelman by telling him stories of his past. Art creates a well written comic tale about the
Holocaust and the relationship he has with his father. This survivor s tale takes you back to the
Second World War to tell us a story of a Jew who hardly survived life.
The story opens with Art visiting his father to get more information about his father s
experiences in WWII so he can write a book. The first chapter of the tale reveals Art s family. His
father, who lives in Rego Park, remarried a holocaust survivor named Mala. Mala and Vladek
continuously fight and Vladek wishes he never got remarried. Art s real mother committed suicide
in 1968 when Art was twenty years old. Art never really got to know his mother the way he
wanted to. The book reveals that Art s mother had diaries but Vladek threw them away because he
did not want to relive those memories. After Anja died I had to make an order with
everything...these papers had to many memories. So I burned them. (Maus 1, pg104). Art wanted
those diaries because he wanted to know what his mother went through. He had so many questions
he wanted answers to. After Art s mother died, he did not keep a close relationship with his father.
They lived separate lives until Art reconnected with his father again to write a story about his life.

At first glance, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving seems to be an innocent tale
about a superstitious New England town threatened by a strange new comer, Icabod Crane.
However, this descriptive narrative is more than just a simple tale because it addresses several
gender issues that deserve attention. The pervasiveness of female influence in Sleepy Hollow and
the conflict between male and female storytelling in this Dutch community are two pertinent gender
issues that complicate Irving s work and ultimately enable the women of Sleepy Hollow to control
the men and maintain order.

Rather, we are left with a sense of relief at Crane s removal from Sleepy Hollow. Thus the tale
presents a stark contrast to Rip Van Winkle. In that story, women attempt and fail to confront men
openly; in Sleepy Hollow, female behavior is much more subversive and effective.
Female behavior in Sleepy Hollow is a result of its feminine setting. Irving s tale preserves the
maintenance of the feminine and the landscape is described as having maternal characteristics.
For example, Sleepy Hollow lies in the bosom of a cove lining the Hudson (Irving 948), and the
valley is embosomed in the great state of New York (Irving 950). Clearly the repose and security
of Sleepy Hollow rest in the maternal landscape an assumption so pervasive that even our male
narrator attests to it. For as he observes, the act of naming falls to women in this Dutch village.
For example, The good house wives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their
husbands to linger about the village tavern on market days, have named the nearby rural port Tarry
Town (Irving 948). The name and power of naming thus operates as a gently sarcastic means of
reproaching unruly husbands and of preserving female dominance over the Hollow.
In the beginning of the tale Irving describes the narrator as

Deaf Club Research Paper
In the 1960 s, Deaf Clubs began to drop drastically in number. As many Deaf people started
working in jobs such as teaching, Deaf people were not so alone in the workplace. The invention
of the Telephone in the 1970 s and the more often use of Closed Captioning put the Deaf Clubs in
their grave. Deaf people didn t need the Clubs for entertainment, nor to plan business or plan for
services.
However deaf culture is still a closely guarded memory thing to many. The American Deaf
community views and values ASL as the central hub of a culturally Deaf identity. Through
American Sign Language, members are given a unique way for expression of their personality, a

The Theology Of The Trinity
The Trinity
The Father: I AM that I AM. The first person of the Trinity: holy and eternal. He is the front of
Deity (autotheos). He has no source but Himself, He is utterly transcendent and unknowable: No
man can come to the Father... The Father is the ultimate source of the Godhead and of all things.
The Son: The Word of the Father. He is the second Person (hypostasis) of the Trinity
. He is eternally
begotten of the Father, He is not made, Begotten, not made. His source is the Father s Person
(hypostasis), so he is not Deity (autotheos), but Divine. His divinity is inherited from the Father,
despite having a source, He has always been. He never not existed. He was brought to the earth
and carried by the Virgin Mary after she was filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was fully
human and fully God, two natures in one person: a hypostatic union. He was killed and
resurrected, conquering Death forever. He sits at the right hand of the Father, awaiting the day of
final judgment. Humans can only approach the Father through the Son. Holy Spirit: The Lord, the
giver of life. He is the third Person (hypostasis) of the Trinity. Despite having a source, he has
always existed.
The Son and the Holy Spirit interact with one another and with the world. Through them we are
able to interact with the Father. At Christ (the Son s) baptism, the Holy Spirit descended like a
dove upon Him. The Father is fully God, the person of the Father s not the person of the Son

The Influence Of Mass Media
Turn on the television, computer, smartphone, or tablet and the majority of the time an
advertisement depicting youthful faces will appear within 10 minutes if not the first 5 seconds of a
loading youtube video. Beauty products, weight loss programs and suppliments, plastic surgery
references and encouragement, tickets to events or locations which stimulate feelings of nostalgia
bombard viewers from every angle. This bias of youthful appearances is the basis of American
media. The mass mediais in the business of affecting how and what people think (Summers). By
Summers definition it can be concluded that, as the majority of people build the cultureof a society
and media affects how and what people think, mass media is creating a culture obsessed with youth.
Americans have a fascination with youth and are reluctant to accept aging gracefully. The
obsession of youth is not an American phenomena. Countries and societies in the modern world and
throughout history have been interested in discovering methods of reversing the biological clock
through means of beauty products and practices so that individuals may appear younger, and
thereby, more beautiful. World wide, making changes to one s appearance to reverse, halt, or
prolong the humanlifespan has been embodied by myths as early as 3,000 B.C.E. and perhaps
earlier (Binstock). Further, actual records of such practices have been traced back to 2,500
B.C.E.(Binstock). By analyzing this research, it can be concluded that

Essay Picture Perfect Surroundings
Early Saturday morning, I awoke to a great aroma. The strong scent lifted me up out of bed, to
my feet, and downstairs, for I was eager to discover the redolence that was idle. Chills ran up my

Booze, cigarettes, sex, beer, curses, affairs, abuse, paint: All of those are factors in Jackson
Pollock s life, however, one stands out above all as the most important one, paint. America s

making his paintings look more as sculptures (442). Along with the finished product, the method
Pollock used to paint was out of the ordinary. Pollock painted physically, in almost a performance
art technique (National Gallery of Art 2). His movements could not be repeated, however, the

Exporting democracy? Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern
European Partnership
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many
other developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy
promotion in the countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his
second State of the Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and
to build a durable peace is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric,
utopian statement, The world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies.
Here will be provided a definition of democracy promotion, name of some of the promoters, and list
the goals of democracy promotion.
Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim
to promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ?
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the
time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build
relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. Alongside with the
democratization of non western countries, the primary goals of the EU was to establish a political
community, to deepen and strengthen free trade zones, and as well as to abolish the visa regime
within those eastern countries. In

The State Library of New South Wales recently received a collection of original drawings by
contemporary Australian political cartoonist David Rowe. This collection, comprising 5,553
drawings in total, was donated by Rowe via the Cultural Gifts Program, a government initiative
that provides tax incentives for gifts of cultural significance. Before this donation can be acquired,
it is to be assessed by the Collection Management Committee to determine its suitability as a

children together, all two years apart, me being the youngest. Both of my parents had high

worked in an office as a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of
the young children. However, once our budget started to become tight, my mom had to start
working again. Unfortunately, my mom s old position was filled by an individual with post

difficult. My parents would fight so constantly that they could no longer keep their marriage
happy causing them to file for a divorce. This was the hardest time in my life. When my parents
got the divorce I went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing
my own mother, who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live
with his parents which resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my
mother was now single, taking care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for
lawyer fees for the divorce, pay bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless
days and nights of my mom crying over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different.
I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle
of coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life
without post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. The job only
paid eighty dollars a month, which I split with my brother, leaving me with only forty dollars.

Although, Guatemala had size and power, El Salvador was able to resist takeovers but it left

Likewise, El Salvador has also had a history of violence because of the Salvadoran Civil War that
lasted from 1979 to 1992. This civil war took the lives of approximately 80,000 soldiers and
civilians in El Salvador (Wood, 1). The Civil War separated families as some were granted
temporary protection in the United States during the war, and while others lived as undocumented

were not good. With a government recovering from a war, gangs saw an opportunity to build and

while roughly another 9,000 are in prison (Guillermoprieto, 2). The two major gangs that rule El

These are just a few examples of the impact that people s opinions or thoughts can have on your

Labeling theorists suggest that labeling individuals as deviant has the potential of becoming a
self fulfilling prophecy (Globokar, 2008). Howard Becker has described deviance as a
consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender ; the deviant is
one to whom the label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior people so
label (Clinard Meier, 2011:89). Culture, sex, age and other elements of identity all shape self
conception, but the meanings that an individual places on various circumstances and
interactions certainly play a very important role as well. It becomes difficult to normally interact
with others once there is a negative impact of an individual s reputation and the conception and
expectations of others reinforces that reputation. I am very familiar with the effect that labeling
can have on a person. My uncle in Cuba is a great example of what labeling can do to your
persona. I grew up very close to him and remember always going on trips and he would play
around with all the time; to me he was the greatest uncle in the world. One day I heard a
comment that slipped out of the mouth of some friends and they referred to my uncle as a thief

Meglinide Research Paper
Class III: Meglitinides
The meglitinides are short acting drugs. They are similar to sulfonylureas in that they augment
insulin secretion or insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. They are only slightly less effective
than sulfonylureas in reducing glycemia. They are not sulfonylureas and can be used in patients
allergic to sulfonylureas. They cause less hypoglycemia as compared to sulfonylureas .They have a

The 2 meglitinides that are available are Repaglinide and Nateglinide.

The Catcher in the Rye, a contemporary novel by J.D. Salinger, is a thought provoking,
fascinating look at society s values and issues in the 1950 s. This book would make an excellent
transition to film because it is full of both action and implication. It focuses on a four day period
of time in the life of a sixteen year old cynic with emotional problems. The book follows Holden
Caulfield as he struggles with others and himself to find his way through the phoniness and
disillusionment involved in his adolescent life. These struggles essentially make up the novel,
occurring during a long flashback of the four days as he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If possible, the author should be contacted for opinions and criticism throughout the filming of the
movie.
The beginning of the movie could or could not be modified from the beginning of the book; either
way would still appropriately capture the atmosphere of the psychoanalyst and Holden. One way
to begin is by actually showing Holden lying in a psychoanalyst s office, where he begins his
narration. The camera would then fade into Pencey Prep, with Holden standing atop Thomsen Hill.
Another approach could just be to begin directly with the scene on the hill, with Holden voicing
over the picture.
Of course, not every scene could have narration. Otherwise the movie would be unrealistic. Some of
the thoughts that run through Holden s head would have to become dialogue, for example, Holden
would mumble Phony under his breath while talking to certain characters.
Locations:
All of the scenes occurring at Pencey would be filmed at another prep school resembling the
descriptions given by Holden throughout the book. ( ...Way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill,
right next to this crazy cannon that was in the Revolutionary War...You could see the whole
[football] field from there... The Catcher in the Rye, p.2) One of the more grotesque scenes would
be the suicide of James Castle. This is a critical scene because Holden tells the reader about

Schizophrenia In In Cold Blood
In the book In Cold Blood, Dr Jones, a psychiatrist, diagnosed Perry Smith with schizophrenia
causing him to believe Smith had no control at scene of the murder of Clutter family. I knelt
down beside Mr. Clutter, and the pain of kneeling I thought of that goddam dollar. Silver dollar.
The shame. Disgust. And they d told me never to come back to Kansas. But I didn t realize what I

has trouble fathoming of killing Mr. Clutter. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by
withdrawal from reality caused by a combination of genetics and environment. Readers can infer
mental illness runs in Smith s family since two out of three of Smith s siblings committed suicide....

Today mental illness continues to be misunderstood and is only often mentioned when justifying
crimes of white men. For instance, James Fields, a nazi sympathizer, slammed his car towards a
crowd of counter protesters during a white supremacist rally and is portrayed by big media
sources such as Fox News as mentally ill instead of a terrorist. The car Fields Jr. allegedly drove
did not try to avoid the protesters, nor did he appear to be confused or panicked by the counter
protesters (Hutchinson Huffpost). Unlike Smith, who did not any remote hate towards the Clutter
family, Fields was not confused when heading towards the protestors and is known to have a
history of not being afraid of showing how he feels In other words, Fields heading towards the
counter protestors was not a product of his mental illness but instead a product of his racist

Can t Remember a Time Without I-Tunes Essay
It s difficult to remember a time without iTunes. To many people, especially to the younger
generation, iTunes has always been a part of people s lives. When it launched on April 28, 2003,
iTunes was set to forever change the world of music and technology (Griggs Leopold). When it
first started, songs were available for instant download for only ninety nine cents and albums for
less than ten dollars. ITunes changed the way music was distributed and marketed. With the release
of iTunes, music consumers could now download music digitally with the click of a button.
Consumers no longer had to leave the comfort of their home to buy or listen to a song or an album.
Before iTunes and digital music, consumers had to buy a complete album or... Show more content

With iTunes, consumers instantly get what they want, which is a perfect fit for our technological
culture today, but the emotional experience of buying music has been shattered.
Because of iTunes, consumers have become more private listeners. Every song and album sits
directly in front of each consumer. Listeners buy the songs they personally want and place them
on their own portable music players. They listen to the songs by themselves as a private
experience (Griggs Leopold). Consumers do still share music, but do not engage in the social
experience that existed before iTunes and digital music. Today, listeners share music by sending
song files to each other or posting music on social media sites completely taking the shared and
social aspect out of music. The shift in behavior from enjoying music as a social experience to
listening to music as a personal experience has changed culture and society. Today s world is all
about the individual. People want things for themselves and they want them now. ITunes helped in
changing culture and society to be this way by making songs and albums available instantly to each
person. With iTunes, people can get the music they want instantly and are encouraged to listen to
music as a more private experience.
In the time of records and even CD s, there was no way to sell or buy single songs. ITunes
transformed music by marketing single songs instead of full albums.

Analysis Of I Carry My Heart
A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin
the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some
would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is
the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a
steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for
millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal
theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it
in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis dangerously powerful when it is
between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and
repetition.
Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E.
Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i
carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she
will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor
almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this
metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be
nothing without them. The final

The Awakening And Literacy Analysis
When you walk down Main Street in Fort Morgan, Colorado, a small farming town, you will see
signs that say there are no bikes allowed on the sidewalk. A part of me believes they were put up
in my honor. My parents had a local shop on Main Street and, when I was not stuck inside
working with my parents, I was riding my bike while trying to avoid the police officer who walked
down the streetgiving tickets to cars who overstayed their welcome.
From an early age, I learned the ropes of how to interact with customers, and by the third grade, I
thought of myself as the most business savvy person in my class. In order for me to navigate in a
business setting, I was required to develop a more grown up demeanor while at the store because it

Fuel Injection Is A Mandatory Part Of The Combustion Process
Fuel injection is a mandatory part of the combustion process. The chemical energy provided by the
fuel allows the engine to transmit power for a myriad of uses in the marine industry including
power and propulsion or a combination of the both. The results of combustion include heat and
exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important
today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI
has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by
products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the
reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion.
The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the
right time. In order for fuel injection systems to work, there must be a means of measuring the
fuel supply and a way to time the delivery and atomization of the fuel. This paper was completed
in order to examine and compare two types of electronically controlled fuel injection systems,
mechanically driven injection and electronic injection. The two types of systems we researched
were the Sulzer RTA Series and the Sulzer RT Flex.
Wartsila RTA Series The Sulzer RTA engine was a low speed, two stroke crosshead diesel engine
and have five to eight cylinders. These engines were designed for tankers and bulk carriers between

The Apollo Conspiracy
There s an organization called NASA, who s done a significant job of sticking to their story. They

One of the most widely used post workout supplements is a protein shake. The typical whey
protein shake contains twenty four grams of protein. While chocolate milk contains only eight
grams. In an eight ounce glass of chocolate milk there are approximately two hundred calories. A
protein shake has 120 calories. A single serving of chocolate milk contains five grams of fat, three
of which are saturated fats. The whey protein shake contains one total gram of fat. Both drinks
offer many health benefits but, as a post workout supplement a protein shake would be the best
choice. When it comes to workout drinks, it is best to look for something with lots of glycogen and
protein. The common exercise routine breaks down muscle mass. The muscles in the human body
need protein to remain firm, and glycogen to replenish the cells within them. Supplements should
be consumed two hours following a workout. Dairy products are not recommended as a
replacement for post workout supplements because they can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Therefore, chocolate milk would not be the best to use after physical activity. Although many
people prefer post workout protein shakes, it depends on the athlete s preference. Exercise is
rigorous and causes the body to loose many electrolytes through sweat. Powerade and Gatorade are
the most common electrolyte replenishing sports drinks. Although these beverages help to repair
the body, they are less helpful than chocolate milk.

the internet, I was exposed to the different point of views on religion. I became really interested in
the religion vs science debates. In the ninth grade, when I got my first Black iPhone 3gs, I

ranging from the origination of Earth, the universe, Life, to human morality and whether it only
exists in religion, to the purpose of life, and whether religions are peaceful or violent. I would
always get high on dopamine when the non religious person would struggle to answer some
questions and I felt lucky that god chose me to be born in a religion specifically the Correct
religion. However, the more I continued to watch these debates, the more I noticed that the pro
science person always referred to facts and scientific proof and logic in their argument while the
religious person used their Holy book to back their point of views. Then things started to get more
complicated, in biology, we are taught that human and apes evolved from a common ancestor, while

Invisible Ceiling: The Effects of Gender on Hiring Practices in Business
While gender inequality in business has improved over the years, there are still many encounters
in the workplace in which women are discriminated against based solely on the fact that they are
female. If you go back a few decades, when the iconic figure Rosie the Riveter was famous for it s
legendary propaganda campaign. Rosie delivered a message around the nation that targeted women
employed to take traditional male dominated roles such as miners, railroad worker, lumber and
steel mill workers, and other male dominated industries. The message was that women should be

This amendment was first proposed to the national women s society in 1923. This amendment

of the rights of law under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any

Mesopotamian Empire And Cyrus Similarities
There were several differences and similarities within the Persian Empire that emerged under

that Cyrus and his successors coopt earlier religious, political, and social traditions and i ll give
several examples of them within this essay. To start off with The Persian Empires under Cyrus s
control did not flourish off of brutal murder and harsh ruling as with several other empires

  • 3. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Cameron Aiello Professor Lund Final Paper 14 May 2017 Throughout all of Jonathan Swift s writings there are many commonalities. One in particular that stands out is the use of satire throughout both Gulliver s Travels , which tells the story of a series of voyages of Lemuel Gulliver s published in 1726, and A Modest Proposal , where Swift uses the idea of cannibalism to captivate his audience as well as focus on society s problems. Throughout Swift s life, politics and religion had a huge impact on him and more importantly, his writing. Many of the satires that Swift uses in his works have to do with politics and the changing ways of the Catholic church in the 1800 s. A Modest Proposal written in 1729, was a satire written to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Swift is using this quotation to show that he cares about the poor and struggling people and he really wants to help them. This is also a different type of writing from Swift, who usually is always criticizing someone rather than showing empathy for them. But since Swift disagrees with the English so much, he chooses to write about it and make those with wealth and power look evil and selfish. Swift who chose not to make it known he was writing this satire, continues to bash England on page 509 by saying, I fortunately fell upon this proposal; which, as it is wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expence, and little trouble, full in our own power; and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England: for this kind of commodity will not bear exportation; the flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long continuance in salt; although, perhaps, I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it . Here, once again Swift shows that England has no problem with the Irish starving and not being able to survive or make money as long as the rich and powerful are facing no hardships. Also by using the words eat up he is going back to the idea of cannibalism, not by the poor but by the wealthy who are taking what is left of the the other nations to become more powerful and to gain more ... Sex In High School Sex Seems like there s only one choice: The downsides of being a slut Kann, who did research on high school sex for the CDC, reports that [i]n 2015, 41% of high school students reported having sexual intercourse (Kann Youth Risk Recapp). These results show evidence that nearly half of all high school students are engaging in sexual intercourse. Out of this group, studies by the Kaiser Family Foundation find startling facts like the idea that [a]ccording to a 1994 study, every year an estimated one in four sexually active teens contracts a sexually transmitted infection (STI) (Kaiser Family Foundation U.S. Teen Sexual ). Many students will then receive sexually transmitted infections and further spread them. As the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance states, Nationwide, 41.2% of students had ever had sexual intercourse, 30.1% had had sexual intercourse during the 3 months before the survey (i.e., currently sexually active), and 11.5% had had sexual intercourse with four or more persons during their life (Kann. L, et al, youth risk ). This wide range of sexual partners in a high school setting greatly distributes very dangerous sexually transmitted diseases. As UNAIDS, a global effort to end aids foundation s research, states, 1 million [830 000 1.2 million] people died from AIDS related illnesses in 2016 (UNAIDS Fact sheet latest statistics ). • 5. Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies, we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away. Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100 million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass beds provide breeding grounds for many ... • 6. Essay about History At Its Best The modern era stands out as a time of great change. Throughout history, it is undoubtedly the period of time in which the most advancement has occurred in society, in the shortest amount of time. The three books, The Interesting Narrative, by Olaudah Equiano, Victors and Vanquished, by Stuart B. Schwartz, and A Social Contract, by Jean Jeacques Rousseau, each provide a view of the modern era in their own individual ways. Olaudah Equiano s account of his life as a slave is directed at the problem of slavery. Stuart B. Schwartz Victors and Vanquished, provides a collection of personal accounts about the conquest of Mexico under the command of Hernando Cortes. Olaudah s writing includes his own take on slavery, and in the conclusion of his book, he reveals his appeal to the public in order to end slavery. He argues on several bases which would appeal to the public of modern society. He gives them the account of slavery s horrors, and then takes on moral, economical, religious, and lawful standpoints, in order to persuade the public that slavery is an ill to society, especially in a time of positive growth. Olaudah wrote a revised introduction to his readers, Pumarejo 3 stating that his purpose, or rather the purpose of his book, is to, be the means, in it s measure, of showing the enormous cruelties practiced on my sable brethren, and strengthening the genuine emulation now prevailing in this country, to put a speedy end to a traffic both cruel and unjust. (Equiano 1745, 5) This is written after the book s first release, and shows the purpose of his writing, referring to the effect it has had on the fight for slavery s abolishment. In his writings, Olaudah challenges the practice of slavery by an appeal to the senses. His story is obviously one of horror, and through telling it he hopes that the readers will evoke in themselves compassion towards his calling. He admits that his case is a rare one, and alludes to the greater horrors that many other slaves were forced to endure. I think the most interesting, and relevant, arguments that Olaudah makes, is not on the basis of the horrible treatment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international trade theory. A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it can produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares industry productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an absolute advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the existence of reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods, there are obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to those countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantageis considered a different story emerges. Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are foregone. Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are foregone if Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize. Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of wheat. In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses produce should then be traded. We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results from the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute advantage is quite intuitive. Source: Economics 7th Edition, David Begg. Gender Issues in Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow At first glance, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving seems to be an innocent tale about a superstitious New England town threatened by a strange new comer, Icabod Crane. However, this descriptive narrative is more than just a simple tale because it addresses several gender issues that deserve attention. The pervasiveness of female influence in Sleepy Hollow and the conflict between male and female storytelling in this Dutch community are two pertinent gender issues that complicate Irving s work and ultimately enable the women of Sleepy Hollow to control the men and maintain order. Irving s main character, Icabod Crane, causes a stir and disrupts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather, we are left with a sense of relief at Crane s removal from Sleepy Hollow. Thus the tale presents a stark contrast to Rip Van Winkle. In that story, women attempt and fail to confront men openly; in Sleepy Hollow, female behavior is much more subversive and effective. Female behavior in Sleepy Hollow is a result of its feminine setting. Irving s tale preserves the maintenance of the feminine and the landscape is described as having maternal characteristics. For example, Sleepy Hollow lies in the bosom of a cove lining the Hudson (Irving 948), and the valley is embosomed in the great state of New York (Irving 950). Clearly the repose and security of Sleepy Hollow rest in the maternal landscape an assumption so pervasive that even our male narrator attests to it. For as he observes, the act of naming falls to women in this Dutch village. For example, The good house wives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their husbands to linger about the village tavern on market days, have named the nearby rural port Tarry Town (Irving 948). The name and power of naming thus operates as a gently sarcastic means of reproaching unruly husbands and of preserving female dominance over the Hollow. Labeling theorists suggest that labeling individuals as deviant has the potential of becoming a self fulfilling prophecy (Globokar, 2008). Howard Becker has described deviance as a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender ; the deviant is one to whom the label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior people so label (Clinard Meier, 2011:89). Culture, sex, age and other elements of identity all shape self conception, but the meanings that an individual places on various circumstances and interactions certainly play a very important role as well. It becomes difficult to normally interact with others once there is a negative impact of an individual s reputation and the conception and expectations of others reinforces that reputation. I am very familiar with the effect that labeling can have on a person. My uncle in Cuba is a great example of what labeling can do to your persona. I grew up very close to him and remember always going on trips and he would play around with all the time; to me he was the greatest uncle in the world. One day I heard a comment that slipped out of the mouth of some friends and they referred to my uncle as a thief or ratero . Salinger, is a thought provoking, fascinating look at society s values and issues in the 1950 s. This book would make an excellent transition to film because it is full of both action and implication. It focuses on a four day period of time in the life of a sixteen year old cynic with emotional problems. The beginning of the movie could or could not be modified from the beginning of the book; either way would still appropriately capture the atmosphere of the psychoanalyst and Holden. One way to begin is by actually showing Holden lying in a psychoanalyst s office, where he begins his narration. The camera would then fade into Pencey Prep, with Holden standing atop Thomsen Hill. Another approach could just be to begin directly with the scene on the hill, with Holden voicing over the picture. Of course, not every scene could have narration. Otherwise the movie would be unrealistic. Some of the thoughts that run through Holden s head would have to become dialogue, for example, Holden would mumble Phony under his breath while talking to certain characters. To many people, especially to the younger generation, iTunes has always been a part of people s lives. When it launched on April 28, 2003, iTunes was set to forever change the world of music and technology (Griggs Leopold). When it first started, songs were available for instant download for only ninety nine cents and albums for less than ten dollars. ITunes changed the way music was distributed and marketed. Because of iTunes, consumers have become more private listeners. Every song and album sits directly in front of each consumer. Listeners buy the songs they personally want and place them on their own portable music players. They listen to the songs by themselves as a private experience (Griggs Leopold). Consumers do still share music, but do not engage in the social experience that existed before iTunes and digital music. Today, listeners share music by sending song files to each other or posting music on social media sites completely taking the shared and social aspect out of music. The shift in behavior from enjoying music as a social experience to listening to music as a personal experience has changed culture and society. Today s world is all about the individual. People want things for themselves and they want them now. ITunes helped in changing culture and society to be this way by making songs and albums available instantly to each person. • 41. Analysis Of I Carry My Heart A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and repetition. Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E. Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be nothing without them. The final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Fuel Injection Is A Mandatory Part Of The Combustion Process Fuel injection is a mandatory part of the combustion process. The chemical energy provided by the fuel allows the engine to transmit power for a myriad of uses in the marine industry including power and propulsion or a combination of the both. The results of combustion include heat and exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion. The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the right time. In order for fuel injection systems to work, there must be a means of measuring the fuel supply and a way to time the delivery and atomization of the fuel. This paper was completed in order to examine and compare two types of electronically controlled fuel injection systems, mechanically driven injection and electronic injection. The two types of systems we researched were the Sulzer RTA Series and the Sulzer RT Flex.
