Woodland Caribou Research Paper
The woodland caribou are in trouble all across Alberta; from a population of 7000 9000, there are
approximately 3000 animals left! At our period of time, the woodland caribou are listed under
threatened and under the Species at Risk Act . These animals need to be protected, or as a result
extinction of the caribou is certain. The boreal forest is a spacious and safe habitat where the
woodland caribou can find necessary items for them to not only survive, but to thrive. As a result of
the rapidly decreasing caribou population our forests are also suffering. The caribou take care of the
forests and because of this, our forests are able to provide us with several mandatory supplies. If the
woodland caribou population decrease, the result is that the forests will not be able to sequester the
carbon, regulate the climate, and mitigate against floods.Where the woodland caribou still survive, our
boreal forests are intact and healthy. Where they ve disappeared, the forests are fragmented and the
ecosystem is stressed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recent construction near wildlife habitats has caused many animals to go homeless and of course,
it has polluted our air all at the same time. Not just construction and manufacturing, but also how clear
cutting is decreasing amounts of undisturbed habitat. The federal Recovery Strategy for the Woodland
caribou identifies that s 65% of land needs to be undisturbed for a chance of at least 60% of the
population to survive. We, humans, disturb their habitat and we are a main reason for this recent

Advantages Of Privatisation In Malaysia
The privatisation initiative in Malaysia was introduced at the correct juncture in the country s
development. It is undeniable that the basis for privatisation was in keeping with current economic
thinking. The rationale for privatisation is based on the premise that governments should restrict
themselves to governing and not venture into running businesses. There are several reasons for this
argument, including the undesirability of a large bureaucracy, the inefficiencies of centralised planning
and the crowding out of private investment. The implementation of privatisation could be undertaken
in such a manner as to undermine the benefits that would otherwise accrue. The proper conduct of
privatisation requires that efficiency and transparency should be considered in the implementation
process. Otherwise, the outcomes might not be efficient and there will be an extremely welfare loss.

The PAP was reviewed annually with a view to identify measures to expedite the implementation of
the programme and to determine the entities to be privatised in the following two years. The PAP was
guided by a study undertaken by private consultants who were commissioned by the government to
review the advisability of privatising government owned entities (GOEs). The government at that
time, did institute a plan for privatisation. The PMP did define its objectives clearly; it also identified
the activities that were to be privatised. The PMP did rank the priority by which projects were to be
privatised, indicating those that were of national importance. PAP was instead, concerned with the
different categories of activities to be privatised and the methods for restructuring non profitable
companies. This document also outlined the stages in the implementation of

Evaluation Of Mcode Using The Gavin Data
Evaluation of MCODE using the Gavin data set of protein interactions and complexes
In this study, we wanted to use all forms of protein interaction data available, which requires
combining of different types of experiments, such as yeast two hybrid and co immunoprecipitation.
Two hybrid results are naturally pairwise, whereas copurification results are sets of one or more
identified proteins. For a copurification result, only a set of size 2 can be directly considered a
pairwise communication, otherwise it must be modeled as a set of hypothetical interactions.
Biochemical copurifications can be thought of as populations of complexes with some hidden pairwise
protein interaction topology that is unknown from the experiment. In the general case of the
purification used by Gavin et al., one weakness tagged protein was used as bait to pull associated
proteins out of a yeast cell lysate. The two intense cases for the topology underlying the population of
complexes from a single purification experiment are a minimally connected spoke model, where the
data are modeled as explicit bait associated protein pairwise synergy, and a maximally connected
matrix model, where the data are modeled as all proteins connected to all others in the set. The real
topology of the set of proteins must lie around between these two extremes.
Population of complexes: C = {b, c, d, e} (b = bait)
Spoke model hypothetical interactions: i S = {b c, b d, b e}
Matrix model hypothetical interactions; i

A Study On Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle cell disease, SCD, is an inherited autosomal recessive genetic disorder that affects 1 in 500
Americans of West African descent with one in 12 African Americans and one in 100 Hispanics being
carriers ( Learning. 2014). SCD is prevalent in individuals with origins in equatorial countries, such as
central Africa, Near East, Mediterranean area, and in parts of India (McCance, 2010). Sickle cell
anemia, sickle cell thalassemia, and sickle cell Hb C are all forms of sickle cell disease with sickle cell
anemia being the most severe. Within the general population there is a 0.7% chance of two African
American parents having a child with sickle cell anemia, a 1 in 800 birth risk for sickle cell Hb C, and
1 in 1700 birth risk for sickle cell thalassemia (2010). The incidence of sickle cell trait carriers can
range from 7% to 13% in blacks and up to 45% in people from Eastern Africa. In comparison to the
other forms of SCD, sickle cell anemia is present in a homozygous form. Individuals are considered to
be sickle cell trait carriers when they inherit Hb S from one parent and normal hemoglobin from the
other parent, these individuals rarely present with any clinical manifestations (2010).
Individuals with SCD inherit the sickle globin gene (HbS) from one parent and a normal (HbA) from
the other parent. The allele for individuals with a sickle cell trait would be HbAS or AS and HbSS for
those with SCD (2010). When two individuals are carriers to the defective gene

Terry Frisk Case Analysis
Similar to a Terry Frisk (commonly referred to as a pat down or frisk search ) a protective search is
conducted for officer safety. The same requirement of reasonable suspicion is necessary to perform a
protective search (Hall, 2014). In other words, the officer needs to be able to convey a reason, based
on articulable facts, why a protective search was conducted (Hall, 2014). These searches are to ensure
potentially, ill intentioned people that may be hidden in the area cannot harm officers (Hall, 2014).
When law enforcement makes a legal arrest, incident to that arrest an officer can search the suspect for
weapons, means of escape, and evidence (Hall, 2014). The scope of the search incident to arrest

Supreme Court in Maryland v. Buie set the precedence for law enforcement to conduct protective
searches (Hall, 2014). Although not every justice on the U. S. Supreme Court agrees with the
protective search doctrine, both federal and state courts have continued to expand on the Buie ruling
(Messing, 2010). Justice Brennan has two concerns with the protective sweeps ruling in the Buie case
(Messing, 2010). First, he believes expanding the Terry rule to people s homes violates the Fourth
Amendment (Messing, 2010). Second, the basis of this legal reasoning has no limits regarding the
standards of this ruling (Messing, 2010). Fortunately for law enforcement, the majority disagrees and
most courts allow protective sweeps even in a non arrest situation (Messing, 2010). Courts have
expanded the reasonable suspicion, and ability to articulate facts for protective sweeps to now include
categorical judgment to satisfy a protective sweep (Messing, 2010). An example could be if a suspect
is violent or more then one is arrested, then a protective sweep can survive the court s interpretation
(Messing, 2010). When conducting protective sweeps, the factors that courts take into consideration to
validate these sweeps I believe are sensible to any reasonable and prudent person. The four factors are

The Operation Management Approach To Total Quality Management
Operation Management is the study of how people organize themselves for productive enterprise .In
order to be effective and efficient, an operation manager must possess a series of attitudes and skills to
push his/her company forward to reach goals and objectives. Operation management consists of the
four functions, that is, planning, organizing ,controlling and leading. These functions help in the
analysis of the activities done by the organization.
Operation is also about creating goods and services and it is known as the transformation process
which turns a range of inputs into the desired output (services) having the requisite quality level.
Management is the process which makes the combination and transformation of various resources
used in the operations scheme of the organization .If the same concept is extended to services

William J. Stevenson, in Production/Operations Management, defines the term just in time
manufacturing as a repetitive production system in which processing and movement of material and
goods occurs just as they are needed, usually in small batches (Stevenson, 1996). However, just in time
(JIT) is more than an inventory system. JIT manufacturing is a philosophy by which an organization
seeks continually to improve its products and processes by eliminating waste (Ptak, 1997)

How To Write A Short Essay On Apollo 11
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was a goal that was set by the president, John F. Kennedy, on May 25th, 1961. The goal was
to travel through space, land on the moon and return back to Earth. The three astronauts to carry out
this mission were Neil Armstrong (the commander), Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. (the lunar module pilot), and
Michael Collins (command module pilot). About 530 million people were watching this event on live
TV. Richard Nixon (the president at the time) watched from the white house.
Apollo 11 launched at 9:32 a.m. EDT on July 16th, 1969. The launch of the rocket happened from the
Kennedy Space Center in America. 3 days after descent from Earth they entered orbit around the
moon. Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin descended to the moon in Columbia.

Hip Hop Chemistry
The Chemistry of Hip Hop Many people don t know that hip hop is deeper than just rapping. Hip hop
consists of many distinctive things. There are different dynamics within hip hop, and they all create a
vibrant and complex sound. For example, hip hop includes the art of djing, emceeing, dance, and
poetry. All of these aspects have made hip hop what it currently is today. Hip hop is at times frowned
upon because of the misunderstanding of hip hop culture. It has many misconceptions while people
don t see that it does have an actual history that has shaped America. Hip hop was born at a birthday
party in the Bronx in the recreation room of an apartment building at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. There
was a man who lived there. It was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell, also known to history as
DJ Kool Herc, the founding father of hip hop. DJ Kool Herc was born and raised in Kingston,
Jamaica. He lived there until the age of ten. DJ Kool Herc began djing at parties and between sets, his
father s band played while he was a teen in the Bronx in the early 1970s. Herc often emulated the style

Creative Play
There is often debate as to whether it s more important to provide children with free time for creative
play, or to ensure that they participate in more organized activity. In the first article the author refers to
creative play as a way to help children learn how to express themselves and promote independent
thinking. Whereas in the second article it states that organized activities are more important in the
sense that they teach children things like commitment, teamwork, and devoloping healthy attitudes
towards themselves. I believe that each of these methods have their own merit, and that a combination
of both is best for a childs development. For example, I don t think it s healthy to fill all of a child s

Charlie s Success In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon
When a person has impairment, they are often seen by society as defective. In Flowers for Algernon ,
Charlie realizes he is seen by humanity as inadequate. Charlie has the surgery to fix what is wrong
with him in an attempt for the doctors to be able to fix other mentally impaired people. The surgery to
fix Charlie was initially considered a success; notwithstanding, Charlie quickly learned that the
surgery was a failure. While Daniel Keyes in Flowers for Algernon portrayed hope for a mentally
impaired man, Charlie Gordon, the operation failed with devastating consequences. The reality was
that Charlie s societal conflicts were in fact true! Evidently, nothing had seemed to work out for him.
Even though Frank and Joe acted like his best friends, they were literally insulting him while he did
not even know. Frank and Joe would even say pulled a Charlie Gordon . Charlie figured that out when
he became a genius. With this all, there was a petition who filed at his work for him to be let go! When

Similarities And Differences Between Fortinbras And Laertes
It is very interesting how Fortinbras, Laertes and Hamlet have in common, but the outcomes of their
individual lives are so different. First, it is true that Fortinbras and Laertes serve as foils in Hamlet. A
foil is a character that is quite different from another character bringing out noticeable difference,
bringing to light those specific differences in the other character. Fortinbras and Laertes suffer the
same loss as Hamlet, which is the murder of their individual fathers. Each of these men handles it in
very different ways with reference to. Hamlet is not decisive in avenging his father s death, whereas

He needed to be a man of action, rather than a man of emotions. Hamlet, on the other hand, is

The Rise Of Pop Art
In the 1940s the United States and the allies were in the midst of a deadly war against their Nazi
German counterparts, World War II officially ended in 1945 and the Allies were victorious. In the
early 1950s the post war economic boom in both the United States of America and Great Britain, gave
the people optimism and money to spend as the super markets were filled with all kinds of consumer
goods . The economy was good and people were happy.
Capitalizing on the post war economic boom of the 1950s were advertisers. Advertising persuaded
many, it told people what was popular, what was good, and what to buy. Advertising and glossy
magazines were found everywhere, in the street, the highway, and even at the comfort of your own
house as you opened the newspaper. This mass marketing phenomenon was incorporated with the rise
of Pop Art. It paved the way for iconic artist such as Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns .
With the rise of this bona fide American phenomenon also brought critics. Critics asked and wondered
how a can of soup or a soft drink could be considered art. Pop artist, Andy Warhol responded by
stating, Art is what you can get away with. What made pop art popular? It was brash, transient, witty,
hostile, young, mass produced, and most importantly it was low cost .
Pop art was the new art movement of the 1950s and 1960s, it was the successor of the art movement
of a decade earlier. In the 1940s abstract expressionism was all the rage in the United States, it was

Public Schools Vs Magnet Schools Essay
For parents raising children selecting an appropriate school can be challenging .... Public, private, faith

the differences to guide you along when making selections.
Public Schools: Receive funding from local, state, and government entities. Charter and Magnet are
also considered public schools. They must admit all students within their zoning. There are some
schools that will except students outside their zone if there is room. For example, a Burbank High
School student may prefer the dance company or football team at Burroughs High School, which is
across town. They can apply and if there is room, they may attend there.

These are public schools that charge no tuition, but can be very competitive to get into to. They are
mostly known for their special programs and high academic standards. The application process entails

first priority is a diversified student register.
STEM or STEAM: These are magnet schools. Those that are STEM focus on Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics. STEAM include the previous four but also include the Arts. (See
below).
Private Schools: These schools charge tuition and rely heavily on funding and donations from outside
sources. Some private schools are co ed while others can be all boy or all girl campuses.
Independent Schools: These schools are private and operate as nonprofit run by a board of trustees.
Their assets come from tuition and private donations. They can be religious but cannot be governed by
them nor receive charitable donations from them. Several of these schools also have boarding
capabilities for students attending that are not from the area. Average tuition is about 18,000 per year,
for the boarding student about 35,000 per

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infections
Since eyes are so complex in their make, we should expect complications to appear throughout our
lives. There are many different problems that occur with our eyes including bacterial and viral
infections to more serious problems such as hemianopsia. Many diseases are treatable while there are
a few that we are only able to slow down the process. One of the most common eye problem is called
conjunctivitis, more commonly known as pink eye. It is an inflammation and reddening of the
conjunctiva. It s more of a viral infection but can also be caused from bacterial infections, airborne
allergens, chemicals, or physical irritants, such as contact lens. While the previous two are not
contagious, there is one kind that is and it s called trachoma, caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. The
infection results in inflammation joined by a gray yellow granules. It mostly develops into neonatal
blindness in developing countries. Blindness occurs when the inflammatory process develops scarring
and thickening of the conjunctiva. A head trauma often had by soccer players or high divers is called a
detached retina. This is when the inner neural and outer pigmented layers of the retina separate.
Nearsighted individuals have a higher chance of having this problem because their retina is thinner or
stretched more than those who have a normal eye. Detached retinas can result in deprivations of
nutrition s for cells in the inner neural layer because it s pulled away from the vascularized choroid

Under The Roofs Of Paris
Poetic Realism was a film movement in France during the 1930 s that combined qualities of both
Impressionism and Surrealism to create a unique way to tell stories through narratives, long,
continuous shots, and sets that took a slice of reality and made it their own. The various techniques
used to create shots more real than life itself were groundbreaking for this time period. In the past, sets
of films were unrealistic and exaggerated; they were telling stories outside of reality, so their sets were
not attempting to immerse their viewer in the film s location. The 1920 film The Cabinet of Dr.
Caligari used very simplistic sets to tell its story, but the filmmakers did not expect or want the
audience to take them as reality. They were entirely aware that the walls ... Show more content on

He was trying to make the skyscrapers tower over the audience, not make the audience feel as if they

share lessons and to tell their individual stories. What sets the films from the period of Poetic Realism
apart from the rest is the immersive, almost panoramic experience the viewer becomes a part of when
they watch such films. Sous les Toits de Paris (Under the Roofs of Paris), created in 1930, was praised
by French film critic Marcel Carné for creating an interpretation of life in Paris that was more real
than life itself. Clair, the filmmaker of Sous les Toits de Paris, created such a realistic portrayal using
many techniques that were contrasting to those used in the history of film (Andrew). He used long,
continuous shots to immerse the reader in the scene and make them feel as if they are a character in
the scene, going about their daily life in Paris. This was quite different from the previous montage
technique that used quick cuts to provide excitement and entertain the viewer. Clair also recorded
many scenes of the film without sound and then later layered the sound

Book Report On Technology And The Internet
This book is different than other books of the similar topics. Normally, when the topic of a book is
about technology or internet , it is difficult for the book to be written in a fun way because let s face it;
this topic itself is a little tedious. However, this book showed us a brand new way of talking about
Internet and the influence it has brought to our life. The way the author quoted the researchers
sentences and theories helped us to feel more willing to continue reading this book.
We used to read books to absorb new information or just kill time. It was a traditional way for us to
obtain knowledge and ideas of people around the world. Sometimes we spend several hours or even
days reading an interesting book just because we were attracted by some new thoughts. However, the
occurrence of computer and the internet has changed this. We have lost our patience and interest in
reading long articles and books. Instead, we prefer searching keywords online to get what we want by
skipping all the way. This change has drawn huge influence on the development of the new
generations. As the author has pointed out in the book, it was more difficult to assign the students to
read a whole book nowadays. Also, since we do not need to actually write anything for most of time
all we do is typing, on the cell phone, on the computer, on the typewriter, and ect we forget words
spelling from time to time because we haven t written them for a log time. The effects of technology

Nineteen Days That Unexpectedly Changed America
10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America
Summer Reading Test On December 3, 1901, a few months after the death of President William
McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt addressed the United States. He said, Indeed, from every quarter of the
civilized world we received, at the time of the President s death, assurances of such grief and regard as
to touch the hearts of our people. In the midst of our affliction we reverently thank the Almighty that
we are at peace with the nations of mankind; and we firmly intend that our policy shall be such as to
continue unbroken these international relations of mutual respect and good will. While the death of
President McKinley was indeed an important moment in United States history, it became more
important because of what it led up to. While all of the dates studied in 10 Days that Unexpectedly
Changed America, by Steven M. Gillon are obviously important, some seem more important than
others. In this student s opinion, September 6, 1901 seems to have a bigger influence on American
History than, say, September 9, 1956. While History progressed in an important way during Elvis s
dancing on the Ed Sullivan show, the assassination of a United States President and the installation of
the president after him seems to hold more value. According to Gillon, President William McKinley
was the most popular president since Abraham Lincoln. He may well have been right. McKinley was a
remarkable man. After teaching in Poland, Ohio, he fought

result of the peace movement and the emergence of the flower children. Woodstock Music Festival
took place near Woodstock New York on August 15, 16, and 17, 1969, and became a symbol of the
1960s American counterculture.
Woodstock began with the following four partners: Michael Lang, the manager of a rock band, Artie

Research Paper On Coach Kon
Notre Dame Football: Coach Kelly and Staff
NCAA college football enthusiasts are already placing Notre Dame out of the running at a spot in the
College Football Playoff, after their 41 8 loss on a Saturday night. The Fighting Irish immediately
dropped from the No.3 top NCAA college team to No. 8. Surprisingly, the Miami Hurricanes (8 0, 6 0
Atlantic Coast Conference) quickly ran through their opponents to face off the Notre Dame leaders (8
1) within the Hard Rock Stadium in front of the mighty 65,000 fans.
Frankly, everyone is jumping to blame Head Coach Brian Kelly, according to Stephen Brooks of
HeraldBulletin. Coach Kelly declared that the atmosphere was so volatile in Miami s grasp. Sports
Journalist Stephen Brooks mentions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coach Kelly recommends his coaching strategies for Notre Dame; successfully graduating players and
seeking those National Championships. According to the NDInsider, his backs are well back at
strengthening their own performance levels, in order to play harder for the Irish. Now, it is up to the
fans to notice just how advance the Notre Dame team can play during future, hard nosed competitions.
QB Red shirt Sophomore Brandon Wimbush two interceptions; sacked five times; and benched,
during the Miami game. * FYI: QG Wimbush experienced a devastating blinding sided blow (i.e., a
cause to hand contusion) to his left hand, while playing against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
However, that particular ND away game ended in a 48 37 victory for the Irish. Afterwards, Coach
Kelly mentioned the solution of wearing a padded glove to protect Wimbush s non throwing hand, in
order to protect his valuable quarterback from sort of ill effects, according to NBC Reports. However,
according to investigations, tendons may be damaged and still be ignored to as extent. Unfortunately,
if this foreseen, injury is not doctored to the point of non participation, a player s conditions may

Physical Therapy And Traditional Physical Therapists
Physical therapy was invented in the 1920 s during the polio epidemic ( Physical, 2014). Therefore
allowing physical therapists are needed all over. They help people with their injuries and helps them
cope with any pain they may have. Pediatric physical therapy and tradition physical therapy only
differ in the age that they work with. Pediatric physical therapists work with children under the age of
eighteen, while tradition physical therapists work with people over the age of eighteen. Some factors
that are considered when looking into the pediatric physical therapy career are, the reasons someone
needs pediatric physical therapy, the education that is needed, the salary they receive their job outlook,
skills that s needed to be a successful physical therapist, and qualifications needed for the different job
settings. As long as a person is under the age of 21 they qualify for pediatric physical therapy, over the
age they then move into traditional physical therapy. Children at different ages require different types
of pediatric physical therapy ( N/IICU, 2012). Newborns require physical therapy to help them breath
on their own, or help the baby learn to calm down whenever they receive a pacifier ( N/IICU, 2012).
Children need physical therapy for, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, brain injuries, muscle weakness, or
bone breaks ( Pediatric, 2014). Pediatric physical therapy is often used in order to indicate develop

Theodore Roosevelt And The Progressive Era
Upon the arrival of the Progressive Era, America shared several common characteristics of the
industrialized countries: drastically increased population, overcrowded cities, poor working
conditions, and significant economic disparity. Three presidents Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft,
and Woodrow Wilson during the Progressive Era made essential domestic reforms and launched new
foreign policies in order to construct America into a more prosperous country and a leading power
around the globe. A driving force in the Progressive Era, Theodore Roosevelt believed that the
government had the right to regulate big business and that the government should use its resources to
help achieve economic and social justice. In his first term, he launched the Square Deal, which
focused on the control of corporations, the consumer protection, and the conservation of natural
resources. In order to achieve his goal of controlling the large corporations and railroad companies,
Congress, under Roosevelt s urge, created the Department of Commerce and Labor to monitor
corporations, help dissolve monopolies, and promote fair competition between companies. At the
same year, Roosevelt initialized the Elkins Act of 1903 to end the practice of railroad granting
shipping rebates to certain companies, and three years later, Theodore s administration issued the
Hepburn Act, which gave the Interstate Commerce Commission the power to regulate shipping rates
on railroads. The second element in the

Distracted Driving Is One Of The Leading Cause Of Death Essay
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death. Every year, about 421,000 people are injured
in crashes that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way, (Hopkins). Even though this is
true, people who use a cell phone while driving are not punished as harshly as drunk drivers. A DUI,
driving while intoxicated, is a misdemeanor and could result in a few months in jail, as well as a fine.
The punishments for a DUI get more severe each time someone is charged. While, the punishment for
texting and driving are only monetary fines. So, why is texting and driving considered a less
punishable offense? A major reason is because of the length of time both have been a problem. The
first law against drinking and driving was in 1910 and cell phones weren t popular until 80 years after
in the 1990s. Because of the long time period of drunk driving being a problem, there is more
attention towards the crime. There also wasn t a long enough time to get the same tangible statistics to
compare using a phone to drinking and driving. However, now, cell phones have been around for years
and the awareness of using them while driving is high but the awareness of the actual danger is low.
People who text while driving should face harsher punishments because texting while driving is just as
dangerous as driving intoxicated; this is evident through the number of car crashes and fatalities
caused by this issue every year, emotional effects texting has on a driver, and the

Sigmund Freud Is Responsible For The Creation Of...
Sigmund Freud is responsible for the creation of psychoanalysis, which at the time was a new science
based on mental causes rather than the typical physical model of human behavior. Freud was the first
to infer that mental disorders could be the result of individual history rather than physical impairment
and that childhood experiences influence an individual s behavior in the future. When considering
Freud s theory of personality, there are numerous correlations that can be observed with regard to my
own childhood experiences and the actions and emotions I experience today. Freud s view on mental
energy is that the body is the source of all mental energy, mental energy is conserved due to the fact
that we have a limited amount, it is the cause for all our behavior, and the goal of our behavior is to
reduce tension. One s mental energy is invested in impulses, which drive human behavior. Freud
proposed two basic impulses: sexual impulses and aggressive impulses. Cathexis refers to the
concentration of mental energy on one particular person, idea, or object; excessive cathexis on a single
object may lead to neurosis, which is a mild psychological disorder. An example of cathexis in my
own life is when I have a week filled with exams and big projects; during this time, my mental energy
is concentrated on getting a good grade on these projects and exams; concentrating my mental energy
on the idea of getting a good grade is almost as exhausting as completing the projects

Argument Against Cursive
You re probably familiar with the term cursive cursive really necessary now a days, read more and
find out! All across the nation there is a debate going on if cursive should be allowed in schools or
discontinued. And if it is necessary or not. Cursive should be discontinued because it is unnecessary.
Cursive is only necessary when it comes to signing your name. You do not read in cursive, print is
used 99% of the time instead of cursive. In conclusion cursive is very unnecessary and should not be a
curriculum in schools.
When you are on the road driving or just doing daily activities you read things in print. One reason as
you drive you should come across road signs about every 10 seconds! Most important, stop signs are

Thirdly If cursive is taught back then people in higher grades like highschool and junior high will have
to be taught this. This could take precious time away from doing better things. When you work on
cursive it is something that is a learning thing with memorization so you can quickly get out of it with
shortcuts according to Ms jobey. This shows if cursive were to be brought back the books and
everything around us today still would be print and it would be like moving to another country with a
different language not being able to connect the two. Importantly when you go into school libraries the
librarians and schools have gotten rid of most books written in cursive simply because students don t
know how to read them and they are just left on the shelf according to scopepentos. Additionally this
shows that even librarians and schools don t think cursive is vital enough for it to be taught to us kids
considering they take it out of there library s. In conclusion teaching cursive now would cause
pandemonium and be unbeneficial because it would put people in different spots and confuse

Tertiary Proteins Globular

between R groups. Tertiary structure is a result of the bonds between sidechains of amino acids, the R

each protein. Tertiary proteins are held together by four different types of forces; hydrogen bonds,
hydrophobic interactions (including Van der Waals interactions), ionic bonding (electrostatic
interactions), and disulfide bridges (strong covalent bonds). Hydrogen bonds occur within and
between polypeptide chains and the aqueous environment. Hydrogen bonding forms between a highly

PrPc (a healthy prion) generally functions in this way but when unhealthy PrPSc comes into contact
with healthy PrPc it converts healthy to unhealthy. This disrupts the cell and the cell will make another
healthy PrPc in its place. This is how the disease unfolds. The cell replaces the healthy protein that has
become unhealthy PrPSc; only for it to then be converted to unhealthy. PrPSc eventually converts all
healthy PrPc proteins to PrPSc. PrPSc; the misfolded and unhealthy prion acts as its own chaperone.
Proteosomes exist to destroy proteins that misfold. Our defense mechanisms do not recognize the
PrPSc as foreign and therefore do not destroy it. It continues to proliferate as it turns PrPc to PrPSc.
Since PrPSc is hydrophobic it tends to hide from water and turn inward and clump together in the
cells. This is called aggregation. Eventually the PrPSc overtakes and kills the cell and leave the
appearance of tissues looking spongy. New cells do not grow in dead cells place and PrPSc finds new
cells to invade as the disease progresses (Cobb Surewicz,

Comparison Of Home Depot And Lowes
Rivals: In major markets, Home Depot and Lowes are bitter rivals, mainly in the DIY sector. Lowes
and Home Depot are similar with what they offer and both have large warehouse stores. The other
smaller competitors like True Value, Ace Hardware, and Hughes Supply are not even close when it
comes to what Lowes or Home Depot are accomplishing. The biggest threat that faces Lowes now is
that Home Depot has been training with a Chinese retailer and bought the store. Now Home Depot has
a foothold in a growing Chinese market.
New Entrants: Any company that tries to move into the home improvement will have difficulty in
competing with Lowes or Home Depot. This is because they have created what is known as an
oligopoly in the United States. They account for the majority of the home improvement industries
overall market and thus creating an economy of scale because of their purchasing power. Any
company that attempts to enter this market will face a huge difference in economy of scale that they
may have difficulty overcoming. Any new entrant will be going up against giants and will be forced to
be a specialty store to gain any traction. Other barriers may include customer loyalty, startup capital,
regional recognition, and a large selection of products.
Suppliers:
Suppliers hold much of the power on the price they can sell their goods. Also, supply and demand also
have a part in determining market price. In the home improvement industry, Lowes and Home Depot

Analysis Of The Second Sex By De Beauvoir
The Second Sex is a piece of literature that criticizes society, especially men for oppressing women.
De Beauvoir believes that men limit women to their privileges by characterizing them as objects.
Furthermore, Beauvoir sees that in society while men are considered dominant, and important,
women, on the other hand, are considered, irrelevant, and insignificant. The main reason why woman
are viewed this way is due to the roles they have in society. Their whole life they must appease to their
husband s commands and perform household responsibilities. The Second Sex highlights the vast
imbalanced roles calling out what is wrong in society. De Beauvoir questions why an entire half of the
human population is being discriminated against. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have already pointed out that what Freud calls the Electra complex is not, as he supposes, a sexual
desire (De Beauvoir, 287). De Beauvoir believes the daughter to husband relationship is not a sexual
desire instead that if the father shows the daughter love she will feel like she belongs in society, she
will become more confident as it will give her a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
Another text that criticizes society because of the oppression of women is Sula by Toni Morrison.
However, Morrison takes a different approach as she does not explicitly say her purpose of her writing
nor point out any flaws in society. Instead, she results to mimicry to prove her point. Morrison in her
writing uses two characters: Nel and Sula. Morrison states, Because each had discovered years before
that they were neither white nor male, and that all freedom and triumph was forbidden to them, they
had to set about creating something else (Morrison, 51). Sula and Nel at an early age of 12 realized
that because they are neither white nor male, for most of their lives they will experience
discrimination and be denied freedom in their community. Here Morrison is trying to show just how
easy it was to identify even to young kids how African American women were oppressed in
communities. Sula was determined to not conform to her community s expectations. However, Nel
decides to still follow the path of the

The Problems Of Urban Rot
For many years, Detroit has been described as the Come Back City . A presumption will be made that
the significant reasons for urban rot are, among potential others are evolving demographics,
deindustrialization, political disappointment, poor urban arranging, and racial separation. Detroit can
still be viewed as a beautiful city full of culture and art, both in its stately decay and in its growing
natural abundance. Indeed, Detroit remains to be one of the finest sights to be seen with a little
investing from the people. Chartier (2005) of Cambridge University make a valid point by stating
people will not invest the requisite level of care into their resources if they believe their investments
will be lost . (p 374).

Around 1910 and 1980 Detroit s African American populace expanded in excess of 100 times. Ryan
(2008) a faculty member of Harvard University reports that The City of Detroit, Michigan was a
natural subject for the study. Like many other cities in the American Midwest and West, Detroit grew
rapidly, expanding from a population of essentially in 1850 to over 1,800,000 by 1950 . (p 2) The
breakdown of the Big Three automakers has quickened Detroit s decay, and occupants have been
consistently escaping since the 1950s. In that time, the populace has dwindled from around 2 million
to somewhat more than 700,000 individuals; aside from that, there are more than 70,000 deserted
structures and numerous empty lots. Individuals have been relentlessly streaming out of the city for
quite a long time, leaving behind empty homes and scantily populated neighborhoods, leaving vacant
neighborhoods an invitation to more crime and other wrongdoing.
By the mid twentieth century, real changes in the American economy were underway, and the auto
business was on the front line. It wasn t the automotive industry alone that demolished Detroit. It was
urbanization that also played its hand in the demise of Detroit. The city was destroyed by
deindustrialization, and decentralization amid the post World War II spread and when the interstates,
and disinvestments in the urban communities started to dissolve. The auto makers such as Ford,

temperature, a few drops of water would then be added to see if the solid precipitated. If so, the
solution would be heated to boiling point in a sand bath. The hot saturated solution was left
undisturbed for a period of time, before the crystals formed. In case that the substance could not

entirely, the substance was considered soluble in the hot solvent. On the other hand, if some but not all

before it was reheated to dissolve the solid. The solution stood undisturbed until crystals were formed.

America Needs Sex Education in Schools Essay
Sex education is a major cause of arguments among parents and their school s board of directors.
Some parents argue that sex education should be taught at home or in their religious institution based
upon their values. Should the public education system teach sex education to students? There has not
been a solution that can be agreed upon unanimously. Sex education isn t yet a necessity in every
school but community support for it is slowly increasing. Sex education needs to be implemented in
schools throughout the nation for the protection of today s youth and further generations from the
dangers of unsafe sex and to teach them to understand what sex means.

Sex education classes, whether or not they clash with religious or parental teachings, teach a basic and
scientific background of sex, what bodily changes are, and how to protect oneself from the dangers of
sex. Statistics show that sex education can reverse current trends and prepare children from the
dangers of sex by educating them about STDs, pregnancy, and so on. The United States statistics on
teenagers and young adults are negatively alarming. Approximately 10% of all births in the U.S. occur
in teenagers and 9.5 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are diagnosed in
teenagers and young adults each year (Kaneshiro B.). Unfortunately, there is a lack of courses aimed
at teaching America s youth about sex and the inherent dangers that they cannot foresee while there is
a surplus of television shows such as, Teen Moms, promoting sex and pregnancy.
Young people can be exposed to a wide range of attitudes and beliefs in relation to sex and sexuality.
These sometimes appear contradictory and confusing. For example, some health messages emphasis
the risks and dangers associated with sexual activity and some media coverage promote the idea that
being sexually active makes a person more attractive and mature ( Avert ). These television shows
may be the only source some children have teaching them about sex and that is not something any
parent or religion should be content with.
Religion is a particularly stubborn road block

Industrial Farming And Its Effects On The Environment
Commercial farming today produces over 250 million pounds of the meat that is eaten. While some
see that industrial farming has its benefits such as less man power with technology, large scale
production, and lower prices, (Fredrick, Advantages of Industrial Agriculture) the industrial food
institutions have also had bad effects. These effects concern agriculture, the environment, human
health, and animals. Industrial farming can lead to environmental degradation, air and water
contamination, loss of biodiversity, loss of marine life, and even poor treatment of animals kept inside
these industrial farms (Horrigan, How sustainable Agriculture can Address the Environmental...).
Because industrial farming is tied to these bad effects more sustainable approaches can be made to
lessen the severity of this occurring issue. Industrial farming has had effects on our environment in
many ways. Due to large scale farms having to hold many animals, even millions, this comes with the
responsibility of dealing with animal waste. A lot of this waste is either put into fields for nourishment
or is released throughout the air and even dumped into lakes or oceans. This causes the water to then
become unclean and useless. Making clean, drinkable water for families and other animals even
harder to access. Woodlands are also cut down in order to produce human consumables that are then
fed to more human consumables. For example, in Argentina many of the woodlands have been cut

  • 2. Woodland Caribou Research Paper The woodland caribou are in trouble all across Alberta; from a population of 7000 9000, there are approximately 3000 animals left! At our period of time, the woodland caribou are listed under threatened and under the Species at Risk Act . These animals need to be protected, or as a result extinction of the caribou is certain. The boreal forest is a spacious and safe habitat where the woodland caribou can find necessary items for them to not only survive, but to thrive. As a result of the rapidly decreasing caribou population our forests are also suffering. The caribou take care of the forests and because of this, our forests are able to provide us with several mandatory supplies. If the woodland caribou population decrease, the result is that the forests will not be able to sequester the carbon, regulate the climate, and mitigate against floods.Where the woodland caribou still survive, our boreal forests are intact and healthy. Where they ve disappeared, the forests are fragmented and the ecosystem is stressed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Advantages Of Privatisation In Malaysia The privatisation initiative in Malaysia was introduced at the correct juncture in the country s development. It is undeniable that the basis for privatisation was in keeping with current economic thinking. The rationale for privatisation is based on the premise that governments should restrict themselves to governing and not venture into running businesses. There are several reasons for this argument, including the undesirability of a large bureaucracy, the inefficiencies of centralised planning and the crowding out of private investment. The implementation of privatisation could be undertaken in such a manner as to undermine the benefits that would otherwise accrue. The proper conduct of privatisation requires that efficiency and transparency should be considered in the implementation process. Otherwise, the outcomes might not be efficient and there will be an extremely welfare loss. The implementation of privatisation requires that proper institutions be ... The PAP was reviewed annually with a view to identify measures to expedite the implementation of the programme and to determine the entities to be privatised in the following two years. The PAP was guided by a study undertaken by private consultants who were commissioned by the government to review the advisability of privatising government owned entities (GOEs). The government at that time, did institute a plan for privatisation. The PMP did define its objectives clearly; it also identified the activities that were to be privatised. The PMP did rank the priority by which projects were to be privatised, indicating those that were of national importance. PAP was instead, concerned with the different categories of activities to be privatised and the methods for restructuring non profitable companies. • 4. Evaluation Of Mcode Using The Gavin Data Evaluation of MCODE using the Gavin data set of protein interactions and complexes In this study, we wanted to use all forms of protein interaction data available, which requires combining of different types of experiments, such as yeast two hybrid and co immunoprecipitation. Two hybrid results are naturally pairwise, whereas copurification results are sets of one or more identified proteins. For a copurification result, only a set of size 2 can be directly considered a pairwise communication, otherwise it must be modeled as a set of hypothetical interactions. Biochemical copurifications can be thought of as populations of complexes with some hidden pairwise protein interaction topology that is unknown from the experiment. In the general case of the purification used by Gavin et al., one weakness tagged protein was used as bait to pull associated proteins out of a yeast cell lysate. The two intense cases for the topology underlying the population of complexes from a single purification experiment are a minimally connected spoke model, where the data are modeled as explicit bait associated protein pairwise synergy, and a maximally connected matrix model, where the data are modeled as all proteins connected to all others in the set. The real topology of the set of proteins must lie around between these two extremes. Population of complexes: C = {b, c, d, e} (b = bait) Spoke model hypothetical interactions: i S = {b c, b d, b e} Matrix model hypothetical interactions; i ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study On Sickle Cell Disease Sickle cell disease, SCD, is an inherited autosomal recessive genetic disorder that affects 1 in 500 Americans of West African descent with one in 12 African Americans and one in 100 Hispanics being carriers ( Learning. 2014). SCD is prevalent in individuals with origins in equatorial countries, such as central Africa, Near East, Mediterranean area, and in parts of India (McCance, 2010). Within the general population there is a 0.7% chance of two African American parents having a child with sickle cell anemia, a 1 in 800 birth risk for sickle cell Hb C, and 1 in 1700 birth risk for sickle cell thalassemia (2010). The incidence of sickle cell trait carriers can range from 7% to 13% in blacks and up to 45% in people from Eastern Africa. In comparison to the other forms of SCD, sickle cell anemia is present in a homozygous form. Individuals are considered to be sickle cell trait carriers when they inherit Hb S from one parent and normal hemoglobin from the other parent, these individuals rarely present with any clinical manifestations (2010). Individuals with SCD inherit the sickle globin gene (HbS) from one parent and a normal (HbA) from the other parent. • 9. Terry Frisk Case Analysis Similar to a Terry Frisk (commonly referred to as a pat down or frisk search ) a protective search is conducted for officer safety. The same requirement of reasonable suspicion is necessary to perform a protective search (Hall, 2014). In other words, the officer needs to be able to convey a reason, based on articulable facts, why a protective search was conducted (Hall, 2014). These searches are to ensure potentially, ill intentioned people that may be hidden in the area cannot harm officers (Hall, 2014). When law enforcement makes a legal arrest, incident to that arrest an officer can search the suspect for weapons, means of escape, and evidence (Hall, 2014). Buie set the precedence for law enforcement to conduct protective searches (Hall, 2014). Although not every justice on the U. S. Supreme Court agrees with the protective search doctrine, both federal and state courts have continued to expand on the Buie ruling (Messing, 2010). Justice Brennan has two concerns with the protective sweeps ruling in the Buie case (Messing, 2010). First, he believes expanding the Terry rule to people s homes violates the Fourth Amendment (Messing, 2010). Second, the basis of this legal reasoning has no limits regarding the standards of this ruling (Messing, 2010). Fortunately for law enforcement, the majority disagrees and most courts allow protective sweeps even in a non arrest situation (Messing, 2010). Courts have expanded the reasonable suspicion, and ability to articulate facts for protective sweeps to now include categorical judgment to satisfy a protective sweep (Messing, 2010). An example could be if a suspect is violent or more then one is arrested, then a protective sweep can survive the court s interpretation (Messing, 2010). When conducting protective sweeps, the factors that courts take into consideration to validate these sweeps I believe are sensible to any reasonable and prudent person. The four factors are as ... There are different dynamics within hip hop, and they all create a vibrant and complex sound. For example, hip hop includes the art of djing, emceeing, dance, and poetry. All of these aspects have made hip hop what it currently is today. Hip hop is at times frowned upon because of the misunderstanding of hip hop culture. It has many misconceptions while people don t see that it does have an actual history that has shaped America. Hip hop was born at a birthday party in the Bronx in the recreation room of an apartment building at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. There was a man who lived there. It was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell, also known to history as DJ Kool Herc, the founding father of hip hop. DJ Kool Herc was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Under The Roofs Of Paris Poetic Realism was a film movement in France during the 1930 s that combined qualities of both Impressionism and Surrealism to create a unique way to tell stories through narratives, long, continuous shots, and sets that took a slice of reality and made it their own. The various techniques used to create shots more real than life itself were groundbreaking for this time period. In the past, sets of films were unrealistic and exaggerated; they were telling stories outside of reality, so their sets were not attempting to immerse their viewer in the film s location. Clair, the filmmaker of Sous les Toits de Paris, created such a realistic portrayal using many techniques that were contrasting to those used in the history of film (Andrew). He said, Indeed, from every quarter of the civilized world we received, at the time of the President s death, assurances of such grief and regard as to touch the hearts of our people. In the midst of our affliction we reverently thank the Almighty that we are at peace with the nations of mankind; and we firmly intend that our policy shall be such as to continue unbroken these international relations of mutual respect and good will. While the death of President McKinley was indeed an important moment in United States history, it became more important because of what it led up to. While all of the dates studied in 10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America, by Steven M. Gillon are obviously important, some seem more important than others. In this student s opinion, September 6, 1901 seems to have a bigger influence on American History than, say, September 9, 1956. While History progressed in an important way during Elvis s dancing on the Ed Sullivan show, the assassination of a United States President and the installation of the president after him seems to hold more value. Every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way, (Hopkins). Even though this is true, people who use a cell phone while driving are not punished as harshly as drunk drivers. A DUI, driving while intoxicated, is a misdemeanor and could result in a few months in jail, as well as a fine. The punishments for a DUI get more severe each time someone is charged. While, the punishment for texting and driving are only monetary fines. So, why is texting and driving considered a less punishable offense? A major reason is because of the length of time both have been a problem. The first law against drinking and driving was in 1910 and cell phones weren t popular until 80 years after in the 1990s. Because of the long time period of drunk driving being a problem, there is more attention towards the crime. There also wasn t a long enough time to get the same tangible statistics to compare using a phone to drinking and driving. However, now, cell phones have been around for years and the awareness of using them while driving is high but the awareness of the actual danger is low. • 28. Sigmund Freud Is Responsible For The Creation Of... Sigmund Freud is responsible for the creation of psychoanalysis, which at the time was a new science based on mental causes rather than the typical physical model of human behavior. Freud was the first to infer that mental disorders could be the result of individual history rather than physical impairment and that childhood experiences influence an individual s behavior in the future. When considering Freud s theory of personality, there are numerous correlations that can be observed with regard to my own childhood experiences and the actions and emotions I experience today. Freud s view on mental energy is that the body is the source of all mental energy, mental energy is conserved due to the fact that we have a limited amount, it is the cause for all our behavior, and the goal of our behavior is to reduce tension. One s mental energy is invested in impulses, which drive human behavior. Freud proposed two basic impulses: sexual impulses and aggressive impulses. Cathexis refers to the concentration of mental energy on one particular person, idea, or object; excessive cathexis on a single object may lead to neurosis, which is a mild psychological disorder. An example of cathexis in my own life is when I have a week filled with exams and big projects; during this time, my mental energy is concentrated on getting a good grade on these projects and exams; concentrating my mental energy on the idea of getting a good grade is almost as exhausting as completing the projects ... Lowes and Home Depot are similar with what they offer and both have large warehouse stores. The other smaller competitors like True Value, Ace Hardware, and Hughes Supply are not even close when it comes to what Lowes or Home Depot are accomplishing. The biggest threat that faces Lowes now is that Home Depot has been training with a Chinese retailer and bought the store. Now Home Depot has a foothold in a growing Chinese market. New Entrants: Any company that tries to move into the home improvement will have difficulty in competing with Lowes or Home Depot. This is because they have created what is known as an oligopoly in the United States. They account for the majority of the home improvement industries overall market and thus creating an economy of scale because of their purchasing power. Any company that attempts to enter this market will face a huge difference in economy of scale that they may have difficulty overcoming. Any new entrant will be going up against giants and will be forced to be a specialty store to gain any traction. She was found DOA lying in her hallway at her house. The body was found at 9: 56 am when police officers broke down her door. The body had blood and throw up around her head, she was wearing warmer clothes but it was 73 degrees Fahrenheit in her home. There were two fingerprints on the orange juice glass. The fingerprints both were double loops, the same as Alex Garcia s. Comparing the fingerprints from the crime scene and Alex Garcia s, it was noted that both fingerprints had the same ridge patterns and minutiae. It was concluded that the fingerprints at the crime scene belonged to Alex Garcia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blood samples were put with Anti A serum and Anti B serum. • 35. Analysis Of The Second Sex By De Beauvoir The Second Sex is a piece of literature that criticizes society, especially men for oppressing women. De Beauvoir believes that men limit women to their privileges by characterizing them as objects. Furthermore, Beauvoir sees that in society while men are considered dominant, and important, women, on the other hand, are considered, irrelevant, and insignificant. The main reason why woman are viewed this way is due to the roles they have in society. Their whole life they must appease to their husband s commands and perform household responsibilities. The Second Sex highlights the vast imbalanced roles calling out what is wrong in society. De Beauvoir questions why an entire half of the human population is being discriminated against. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have already pointed out that what Freud calls the Electra complex is not, as he supposes, a sexual desire (De Beauvoir, 287). De Beauvoir believes the daughter to husband relationship is not a sexual desire instead that if the father shows the daughter love she will feel like she belongs in society, she will become more confident as it will give her a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Another text that criticizes society because of the oppression of women is Sula by Toni Morrison. However, Morrison takes a different approach as she does not explicitly say her purpose of her writing nor point out any flaws in society. Instead, she results to mimicry to prove her point. Morrison in her writing uses two characters: Nel and Sula. Morrison states, Because each had discovered years before that they were neither white nor male, and that all freedom and triumph was forbidden to them, they had to set about creating something else (Morrison, 51). Sula and Nel at an early age of 12 realized that because they are neither white nor male, for most of their lives they will experience discrimination and be denied freedom in their community. Here Morrison is trying to show just how easy it was to identify even to young kids how African American women were oppressed in communities. Sula was determined to not conform to her community s expectations. However, Nel decides to still follow the path of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Problems Of Urban Rot For many years, Detroit has been described as the Come Back City . A presumption will be made that the significant reasons for urban rot are, among potential others are evolving demographics, deindustrialization, political disappointment, poor urban arranging, and racial separation. Detroit can still be viewed as a beautiful city full of culture and art, both in its stately decay and in its growing natural abundance. Indeed, Detroit remains to be one of the finest sights to be seen with a little investing from the people. Chartier (2005) of Cambridge University make a valid point by stating people will not invest the requisite level of care into their resources if they believe their investments will be lost . (p 374). In 1701 the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around 1910 and 1980 Detroit s African American populace expanded in excess of 100 times. Ryan (2008) a faculty member of Harvard University reports that The City of Detroit, Michigan was a natural subject for the study. Like many other cities in the American Midwest and West, Detroit grew rapidly, expanding from a population of essentially in 1850 to over 1,800,000 by 1950 . (p 2) The breakdown of the Big Three automakers has quickened Detroit s decay, and occupants have been consistently escaping since the 1950s. In that time, the populace has dwindled from around 2 million to somewhat more than 700,000 individuals; aside from that, there are more than 70,000 deserted structures and numerous empty lots. Individuals have been relentlessly streaming out of the city for quite a long time, leaving behind empty homes and scantily populated neighborhoods, leaving vacant neighborhoods an invitation to more crime and other wrongdoing. By the mid twentieth century, real changes in the American economy were underway, and the auto business was on the front line. It wasn t the automotive industry alone that demolished Detroit. It was urbanization that also played its hand in the demise of Detroit. The city was destroyed by deindustrialization, and decentralization amid the post World War II spread and when the interstates, and disinvestments in the urban communities started to dissolve. The auto makers such as Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, drove almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Anthracene Solubility The experiment contains two procedures: the solubility tests, and macroscale recrystallization of chosen solutes and solvent. The solubility tests were performed with all the solutes, which were phthalic acid, naphthalene, anthracene, benzoic acid, and resorcinol. The three solvents were water, methanol, and acetic acid. Solubility tests were carried out at both low and high temperature conditions, depending on the substance. The most efficient pair was acetic acid and anthracene, which was chosen for the second part of the experiment. In the macroscale procedure, 47.57% of anthracene was recovered. The crystals had a powdery physical appearance. There were several errors in the experiment, such as loss of solids due to unnecessary transfer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A solute and solvent were chosen from the list to start with. Around 10 mg of solid and 0.25 mL of solvent were added to a clean reaction tube. A pipette was useful in transferring the solvent to the tube. The mixture was stirred with a glass stirring rod. If the substance was completely dissolved at room temperature, a few drops of water would then be added to see if the solid precipitated. If so, the solution would be heated to boiling point in a sand bath. The hot saturated solution was left undisturbed for a period of time, before the crystals formed. In case that the substance could not dissolve at room temperature, it would have to be heated and further observed. If the solid dissolved entirely, the substance was considered soluble in the hot solvent. On the other hand, if some but not all dissolved, it was noted as moderately soluble. Continually, the solution was allow to cool down, before it was reheated to dissolve the solid. The solution stood undisturbed until crystals were formed. Solubility tests were performed on all possible solvent solute pairings. The most efficient pair was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. America Needs Sex Education in Schools Essay Sex education is a major cause of arguments among parents and their school s board of directors. Some parents argue that sex education should be taught at home or in their religious institution based upon their values. Should the public education system teach sex education to students? There has not been a solution that can be agreed upon unanimously. Sex education isn t yet a necessity in every school but community support for it is slowly increasing. Sex education needs to be implemented in schools throughout the nation for the protection of today s youth and further generations from the dangers of unsafe sex and to teach them to understand what sex means. Sex education classes, whether or not they clash with religious or parental teachings, teach a basic and scientific background of sex, what bodily changes are, and how to protect oneself from the dangers of sex. Statistics show that sex education can reverse current trends and prepare children from the dangers of sex by educating them about STDs, pregnancy, and so on. The United States statistics on teenagers and young adults are negatively alarming. Approximately 10% of all births in the U.S. occur in teenagers and 9.5 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are diagnosed in teenagers and young adults each year (Kaneshiro B.). Unfortunately, there is a lack of courses aimed at teaching America s youth about sex and the inherent dangers that they cannot foresee while there is a surplus of television shows such as, Teen Moms, promoting sex and pregnancy. Young people can be exposed to a wide range of attitudes and beliefs in relation to sex and sexuality. These sometimes appear contradictory and confusing. For example, some health messages emphasis the risks and dangers associated with sexual activity and some media coverage promote the idea that being sexually active makes a person more attractive and mature ( Avert ). These television shows may be the only source some children have teaching them about sex and that is not something any parent or religion should be content with. Religion is a particularly stubborn road block ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Industrial Farming And Its Effects On The Environment Commercial farming today produces over 250 million pounds of the meat that is eaten. While some see that industrial farming has its benefits such as less man power with technology, large scale production, and lower prices, (Fredrick, Advantages of Industrial Agriculture) the industrial food institutions have also had bad effects. These effects concern agriculture, the environment, human health, and animals. Industrial farming can lead to environmental degradation, air and water contamination, loss of biodiversity, loss of marine life, and even poor treatment of animals kept inside these industrial farms (Horrigan, How sustainable Agriculture can Address the Environmental...). Because industrial farming is tied to these bad effects more sustainable approaches can be made to lessen the severity of this occurring issue. Industrial farming has had effects on our environment in many ways. Due to large scale farms having to hold many animals, even millions, this comes with the responsibility of dealing with animal waste. A lot of this waste is either put into fields for nourishment or is released throughout the air and even dumped into lakes or oceans. This causes the water to then become unclean and useless. Making clean, drinkable water for families and other animals even harder to access. Woodlands are also cut down in order to produce human consumables that are then fed to more human consumables. For example, in Argentina many of the woodlands have been cut down to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
