The Importance Of Being A Class President
Good afternoon class ladies and gentlemen, thank you for allowing me to have the privilege of
speaking in front of you today. About this time I m supposed to get up here and tell you a little short
story about myself, and start off like ever since I can remember, I have always wanted..... But instead I
m be different and start it off a little something like this. I have not always wanted to be your class
presentant, but what I have always wanted to do is say something that we all do not have the guts to
say. The reason I believe I am the right candidate for this class president because I too don t believe
that teachers and other staffs doesn t care about what we have to say or what we believe would be
right for us, see if when we are going over the syllabus and we all are asking questions we get the
response that we didn t want or hope for, If you vote for me I will have the desire to help make a
change, I will help with extracurricular activities, money, and fights will be the issues I plan on mainly
addressing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

question that we ask a lot. Well if you vote for me I believe that extracurricular activities should be
more than just homecoming and prom. I believe that we should have more school events. For

High Altitude Is Defined As An Elevation Of 1500-3500 Metres
With regards to elevation, high altitude is defined as an elevation of 1,500 3,500 meters (4,900 11,500
ft.) but can differ by a 1,000 ft., depending on the defining source. The definition of elevation
continues with very high altitude, which is 3,500 5,500 meters (11,500 18,000 ft.) then continues to
extreme altitude of which is above 5,500 meters (18,000 ft.). Within healthy individuals, substantial
clinical changes are difficult to exhibit at elevations lower than 1,500 meters. But once the human
body reaches altitudes at or above high altitude, the adverse effects on the human body become
increasing pronounced and considerable. As altitude increases, the barometric pressure falls and the
environmental partial pressure of inspired oxygen decreases. The reduction of inspired oxygen, in
combination with other environmental factors such as a decline in temperature, humidity, paired with
physical activity, the human body must be able to compensate for the adverse effects opposed
primarily on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
Physical alterations within the cardiopulmonary system begin to be substantial over an altitude of
2500 meters. However, the human body can use both short term and long term means to adapt to high
altitude, and even beyond that will allow the body to partially compensate or even fully compensate
for the lack of oxygen. But, there is also a limit to the level of adaptation and compensation that can
take place. Once an altitude of or above 8,000

Asian American Actors In Modern Media Deal With Whitewashed
Asian American actors in modern media deal with whitewashed film and television,
underrepresentation in major works, and casting in stereotypical roles. These three problems are
rooted in the history of Asian American actors in film and television, and have been perpetrated by
stereotypes that continue to this day. The purpose of this memo is to examine the modern industry of
film and television through the eyes of Asian American actors, viewing the stereotypes and stigmas
these actors face, and looking forward to see what can be done by casting directors to reduce harmful
stereotyping and increase diversity in film and television.
History of Asian and Asian American Stereotypes in Film and Television
One problem that arises when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in film and
television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have come around in the
1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create resentment and tension within America
s minority groups (Huh 13).
The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that valued hard work,
family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a positive stereotype that exemplifies the
values of the American Dream; however, academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues
that the model minority stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white
Americans. In this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by
acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian musical, Flower
Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority, centering the story around the
benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with traditional ways. (Mok 193).
One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors often donned
yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at
Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh
21). These characteristics meant to capitalize on the race of the character: by changing his appearance

Maaccuracies In The Mummy
The Mummy For decades, several major Hollywood movies have tried to capture the essence of what
they imagine an archaeologist does and believes. Although not many have gotten it right there are
some movies that really capture the heart of an archaeologist. One excellent example is The Mummy
directed by Stephen Sommers. The main characters in The Mummy are Rick played Brendan Fraser
and Evelyn played Rachel Weisz. Evelyn works at Cairo s museum of Antiquities, and refers herself as
a librarian, though she seems to have much knowledge of the Egyptian antiquities. Fascinated, but
with little experience Evelyn seeks out to gain status and provide the museum with a great discovery.

Many of them just thought that if they dug deep enough, searched hard enough they might just get
lucky. Those people had no respect for the dead, even though native people near Hamunaptra try to
worn them if you don t leave by sunrise, you shall all die. The travelers just laughed it off and
continued their search destroying everything left and right. When this part of the movie was going on,
it reminded me of what we learned in our lecture about the Native American Graves Protection and
Repatriation Act. Although the movie took place in Egypt in 1925, and the laws were for people in the
US, I saw several similarities on the events that took place. Evelyn was incredibly careful with what
she did because she knew that the artifacts they found were of great value for the people of the dessert
that protected Hamunaptra, but that didn t stop Evelyn and her team from opening up the sarcophagus
and studying the mummy that was in it. Just like what happened to the native Americans,
archaeologist were prohibited to dig up native ancestors because of their families who felt like it was

Characters Of Sherlock Holmes By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Since the beginning of time, the contradiction between good and evil has been present in all stages of
life. Everybody is capable of having good and evil in their lives, is just a great part of what defines a
human being. In the books of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, there are many villainous
characters that are constantly forcing this detective to go out of his way and offer a more honorable
sense of justice. Specifically, Professor Moriarty, as is known as the most mysterious, popular and
clever of all the corrupted characters of the novel. Sherlock Holmes is often considered as the other
side of the coin, the good to Moriarty s evil, revealing that these two traits can come in any shape or
form.
Professor James Moriarty, shows up as a malevolent character in many of the fictional Sherlock
Holmes stories. Is often overrated, but as a character he is really important, since in different versions
of the stories he is the one responsible for Holmes s death. He is portrayed as a criminal mastermind
who runs an illegal ring by taking people s secrets as a form of payment so he can then give away
some of his protection, and gain what he really desires: power. Starting from the beginning, this
frivolous character is like a master puppeteer, he is very intelligent, cunning and he enjoys to
manipulate people who feel weak under his command. On the other side, Moriarty is hiding in plain
sight, and for him is just a game, more exactly like chess, in where he can move

Compare And Contrast Bergson And Davis Theories
Philosophers over the years have attempted to generate their own theories of what makes a person
laugh. Bergson and Davis s theories have given people an indication of what that could be. Together
these philosopher s theories enlighten us to why people might laugh. Bergson and Davis s theories
limit us in explaining to the fullest extent of the workings of comedy. Bergson s theory has three
elements that he believes constitute why we laugh and claims, ...the mechanical encrusted upon the
living, promotes laughter (Bergson 10). While Davis s theory is concerned with the foundation of
laughter with incongruities and ambiguities. As well the audience, who finds something funny, instead
of the object that is funny. Bergson s theory begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bergson articulates that commonly laughter transpires in a group, and people do not frequently laugh
in isolation. For instance, the example Bergson used was about a group of travelers laughing and a
bystander not affiliated with the group, not laughing. Because the bystander was isolated from the
group and not part of the joke, the bystander did not laugh. For this is a good example of no laughter
in isolation, but there are cases where people can be alone and laugh at themselves in isolation. A
person could trip over their kids toy and laugh because the toy was out of place, even though there
was not another person present laughing with them.
Bergson s three elements have strong observations, but there are components of it that are debatable
that can limit this theory. The first limitation would be concerning that we only laugh at objects that
we have stamped as human or ours. People can laugh at a variety of matters. Another issue would be
with the absence of feeling coinciding with laughter because a person can claim that laughing while
still feeling some sort of emotion is possible. For example, laughing about something that makes you
happy, in that moment you are feeling an emotion while laughing. A person could also say that
laughing is an emotion in itself.

The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness
Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and
shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure,
and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their
way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these
things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with
money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires
eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer.
Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the
road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they
would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in
reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in
experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an
Era of Excess:
Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of
us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter
vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have

Ivan Miranda, A Native Of Acapulco, Mexico
We all have respect for our elders because of their hard work. We wouldn t be in the U.S. or have what
we do now if it wasn t for them , Ivan stated during the interview. I interviewed Ivan Miranda; a native
of Acapulco, Mexico, about elderly roles in his family. Ivans grandparents are the first and the oldest
generation of his family in America, therefore, a majority of the answers are of direction of his family
s values towards his grandparents and the ethics that are taught by them. In addition, I came to
understand more about his family s thoughts on the importance of elderlies, along with the loss of
their heritage s way of life towards the elders. Ivan and his siblings were raised to love and respect
their elders. The elders are the origin of the family and without the elders, none of them would be here
today. Elders are wise and are sought out not only for advice and guidance, but are the caretakers of
the family. Since elders are the root of the family and the up most respected, there are not one elder
family member in a nursing home. When they are sick or too old to care for themselves, they live with
a family member, we wipe their butt s, like they did ours, Ivan declared. As elders get vulnerable and
unable to maintain a typical lifestyle, they will either move in with a child or even more commonly, a
child will move into their home to help. If there are no offspring, the family member that no longer
can care for themselves, will move in with a brother or

A Woman In Berlin Essay
A Woman in Berlin A Woman in Berlin is a book written by an anonymous writer which is an eight
week diary that took place in April 1945. The way the anonymous writer wrote about her experiences
in the war is extensive and very descriptive she has explained how it is to live during a war and how it
can be hard to wake up without knowing what you will be facing for the day. In the first parts of the
diary, Anonymous explained some of her physical experiences through her sentences. This is
important in understanding the whole book because this is the basic foundation of the whole scenario
of the story or situation that she has been wanting to talk about. This book is an account of how
miserable, heartbreaking, and hard it is to live during the time of war. Anonymous has said Back in the
attic apartment, I can t really call it a home; I no longer have a home . With these words, we can see
and feel that people who have witnessed and lived the war have experienced a difficult life that is
beyond words, and not being able to feel that she belongs anywhere. Home is an ... Show more

Anonymous in particular has expressed her disinterest with her negation of believing a proverb about
prayer she believes more of begging than praying. Another sign of lost hope and will for living, war
makes it difficult for humans to look for God and trust Him because of what they are experiencing.
When children and old people are dying and suffering in front of your eyes, uttering a prayer may
seem to be the last option because the initial reaction of a person experiencing the chaos of war is to
panic and fear for his survival. This is the sad and harsh reality that The Woman in Berlin has
portrayed and narrated, and this book is an important part of the world s society because it makes us
reflect back to our world s past and understand what happened during the war in a better manner. It is
both a heartbreaker and an informative

Food Waste Disposal and Reduction
According to the Society of St. Andrew the United States spends about 1 billion dollars a year just to
dispose of food waste (1). Food waste is food material that is unable to be eaten or sold which is
discarded as trash. Food should be too precious to Americans to waste. It nourishes people s bodies
and brings families together, and they treat food as if it has little to no worth. Food is discarded on
farms, while being transported and in retail stores before being sold; it is also discarded in everyday
households. Americans are their own enemy, increasing food waste everyday by not being aware of
the outcome. Reducing food waste will bring upon many benefits within society but consumers and
businesses have to be willing to put forth the effort. There are simple solutions that can be implicated
in production, distribution and households in order to decrease food waste. The quality of food in
society has declined due to its accessibility. There are convenient grocery stores in a communities
selling food. There is an enormous amount of people suffering from poverty and hunger. There are
854 million people in the world who are chronically malnourished. (Sanchez 1). People suffering from
world hunger, do not receive enough intake of nutrients that are composed in food, some do not eat at
all receiving no nutrients. The increase of food waste is decreasing other natural resources like water,
land, and energy. Landfills are becoming more popular, the thrown out food has to be

The Importance Of STEM Education
The importance of transforming STEM teacher s professional development (PD) for the middle school
is central to the standard based transformation of STEM education and knowledge based competition
of the global economy. Because the knowledge based competition of the 21st century economy
depends on the competitiveness of STEM education, improvement of STEM education is a national
call. In addition, the needs for improvements in K 12 science education align with the needs for
improvement in science teacher s PD. STEM jobs require higher creativity and innovation, thus
STEM teachers and educational leaders are expected to encourage creativity and innovation in student
learning regardless of barriers. Nevertheless, teachers are expected to overcome all barriers in order to
foster active learning by students (Michael, 2007). In general, STEM education requires teacher s
creativity and flexibility. This urges rethinking of the education leaders and researchers about
identifying effective professional development for STEM teachers.
STEM teacher s professional development is becoming much more important than ever for mainly
three reasons. First, according to recent U.S. Bureau of labor statics, STEM jobs are growing faster
than any other U.S. sector estimated increase by 17% by 2024. Giant technology companies alone
need to fill more than 650,000 new jobs by 2018. Nevertheless, U.S. lags by STEM workforce.
Students academic achievement in STEM fields still lags that of their peers

Group Of Emotion In Monet
According to Claude Monet, a famous impressionist artist, It s on the strength of observation and
reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. (as cited by Kendall, 2004). As
artwork is chiefly depicted in many different ways, such as in natural, spiritual, objective, or
subjective description, Monet believes that a plein air painting style can convey such profound
feelings to audiences based on thorough observation and comprehension (Perry, 1927). Thus, there are
four groups of emotion in Monet s paintings, which are serenity, loneliness, confusion, and joy. The
first group of emotion in Monet s paintings is serenity. Serenity is a state in which people are liberated
from anxiety or stress of daily hassle. Monet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joy is an emotion that reflects the fulfilment of human s desires involving the relationship. Monet, in
general, depicts the happiness in his paintings based on a group of people and a nature as a subject
matter (Stuart, 1916). A group of people represents love and caring between friends with an
impressively intimate conversation. They share a moment of laughter while reminiscing the hilarious
action of their friends. Furthermore, the beautiful nature around them, such as the flower bushes and
the small trees, is depicted in a vividly bright tone of color as responded to the joyful moment of
people. While, the their clothes are depicted in a more natural shade of color, such as blue and green.
These colors imply that their feelings toward one another are perceptibly real and sincere as a natural
color (Fitzgerald, 1905). The emotion of his paintings is mostly described in an amiable atmosphere of
a group of people that shares a similar taste in particular subject (Fitzgerald, 1905). Monet paints them
with the reminiscent emotion of his colleagues helping and supporting him through difficult times
(Borgmeyer, 1912). A wonderful example of joyful moments in Monet s paintings is Le Déjeuner sur l
herbe or known as The luncheon on the Grass (Isaacson, 1972). The subject matter is a group of
people having lunch together amid the beautiful nature. The colors in this painting include a natural
shade of yellow, green, and blue. The painting represents the amiably delightful atmosphere of friends
sharing food and beverage (Isaacson, 1972). In summary, joy is the final group of

My Experience With My Mentor
I can still remember the talk with my friends before September when I told them how scared I was to
take this course since I could not imagine me, myself, to handle a 90 minute class on my own. When I
was informed that I was assigned to an ALI level 6 class, I was shocked. I could not help thinking
about that I was actually a level 6 student last year and how could I teach students that had the same
language proficiency as I did. I was anxious, panic, confused and unsure about myself before my first
observation. I kept emailing my supervisor and told her how I was not confident about myself; I
remember I failed to speak English fluently for the beginning few weeks since I noticed that my
mentor and my students were judging me while I was speaking; I rewrote my lesson plan for more
than three times to meet my mentor s expectations... my voice might be a little bit shaky when I was
first observed. And I kept talking to make the class more teacher centered so that I could control the
class better. It is so magic that as soon as I accomplished my first class being observed, I felt released
and I felt that I learned something. It cannot be expressed verbally, but I could feel it. I gained
confidence and much more. Being more confident, my second lesson plan designing process still
nearly killed me. This time I had to search the materials myself. I went through the YouTube videos
and Google, pages after pages. I could not help even thinking about the lesson plan and designing

Walter Sobchak Should Be Charged Under New York Penal Law...
Question 1: Based on the evidence, Walter Sobchak should be charged under New York Penal Law
125.25, which is murder in the second degree. Upon seeing is wife Meara Ramos, in bed with James P.
Sullivan, Sobchak makes the conscious decision to pick up his firearm, a deadly weapon and shoot it
at Sullivan which reveals his intent to cause the death of another person. Unfortunately, the bullet
ultimately travels outside, hitting and killing Edward Vedder; an innocent bystander. In his attempt to
murder Sullivan; Sobchak, causes the death of a third person. By picking up the gun and firing it,
Sobchak recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and
although it does not harm Sullivan, the intended victim it does cause the death of another person.
Under these circumstances Sobchak, is wholly responsible for the death of Vedder and liable under
125.25. In this case I can easily envision a defense premised on emotional distress. The sight of
another man in bed with his wife caused Sobchak, to act under the influence of extreme emotional
disturbance. It could be argued that it is reasonable for a devoted husband to take this course of action
given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would not have.
However, given the holding in Patterson v. New York, it would fall completely upon the shoulders of
Sobchak s defense team to prove any affirmative defense, as the prosecution is required only to prove

King County Emergency Medical Systems Essay
Emergency medical services is the process of treating patients, transporting them to the hospital, and
providing immediate care according to the patient s condition. Without Emergency Medical Services
(EMS), some patients may not survive the trip to the hospital. Thus, the most important motivator for
establishing emergency medical services systems was to reduce losses of life by providing treatment
from specialized medical providers during transportation to the hospital. There have been many
concerns about the effectiveness of operation and the procedures of the emergency medical systems in
providing care to patients. Accordingly, King County Emergency Medical Services of Washington
state have taken great care to develop a system that improves the patient s outcome through providing
immediate medical care.
The emergency care system works under the Seattle Fire Department and operates with emergency
departments at local hospitals, dispatch centers, and private ambulance providers, as well as the fire
departments ( About the EMS Division, 2016). The system consists of many providers who are
working as a team to provide the necessary treatment in both life threatening and non urgent

representation for leasing transactions in general. In 2005, the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission had also made recommendations which indicated this need for change in regard to how
leases were being reported. Overall, it is believed that this change would ensure greater transparency
in the financial statements concerning these type transactions. As commonplace as lease arrangements
are, accounting for leases are not quite so clear cut. One of the hotly debated topics for leasing
standards that is currently being discussed is how off balance sheet financing presents an erroneous
and misleading view of a company s true financial position. This problem began when companies
would plan ways to circumvent the rules currently under U.S. GAAP in attempts to classify leases as
operating leases when in actuality they were capital leases. An example of this when a company
purposely designs the leasing arrangements so that the lease ends at 74% of the asset s estimated life
whereas one of the U.S. GAAP criteria for leases directs that it must be a non cancellable lease term

Hawaii Aloha, welcome to the paradise to the pacific. All though these volcanic islands mostly have

Reverend Hale s Transformation
Reverend Hale and John Proctor in The Crucible The Crucible is a play about the hardships of the
Salem witch trials. In the beginning, Reverend Hale is a devout judge and reverend, seeing only black
and white. When he faces the people of Salem, his character stops favoring legal justification and
shifts to do what he knows is right, quitting the court and imploreing defendants to save their lives.
John Proctor was a hardworking licentious farmer before the witch trials came to town, but when all
was said and done, he chose the religious answer to the question of lying or dieing Arthur Miller

One example of this is Hale s inability to see Abigail s yellow bird in the rafters and eventually
quitting the court. This reaction to what he thought was unreasonable (Abigail seeing what he couldn
t) drove him to the action of quitting the court. If he still valued law above all else, he would have
stayed with the court and wouldn t have cared whether or not there really was a bird. A secondary
example of his transformation is when he sees John Proctor readying to sign the paper, saving his own
life. When Danforth is close to stopping the signature from being written for he fears his confession
may be false, Hale pleads Excellency, it is enough he confess himself. Let him sign it, let him sign it! .
This further shows Hale s distaste of the law by showing him prefer to keep John Proctor (a man he
knows to be good, not a witch as the paper would imply) alive, instead of hanging, a perceived false
confession would lead to. This together with the above paragraph shows the differences between
Reverend Hale before and after the stress of the court changed

Christopher s Ambiguous Viewpoints
the curious incident of the dog in the night time by Mark Haddon is about a teenager s quest to define
every entity in life to a single answer. Christopher Boone s point of view removes ambiguous
viewpoints: He confines every situation to one answer, in a way, that extends his love for his maths. If
anything s ambiguous or not controlled to a single meaning, Christopher will not respect it or
acknowledge it. Christopher s need to define is a theme, throughout the book, becoming the
motivating force behind all his actions. His life starts to change when a thing, he defines, breaks its
boundaries: an experience his mind can t grasp. For example, Christopher uses the simile My memory

sequence, Christopher immediately shifts from Mrs. Alexander s as an option to his mother to keep his

rules. This passage also brings into focus how much he values dogs, she wasn t a friend or a member

didn t just kill dog, he killed Christopher s friend: an entity he now values above his father because

The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian
When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies
protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open
minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as
an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The
reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related.
Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout
their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat
consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my
own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy
lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I
believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier
lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly
developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time.
Reasons For and Against Vegetarianism: Why a vegetarian diet is superior
I would like to discuss some of the articles I researched to gain a better understanding of the health
and moral aspects, as well as discuss the

Visit: The Millennium Bridge
For our physics practical, we visited The Millennium Bridge a pedestrian footbridge located at the
heart of London that crosses the River Thames. It links the City and St Paul s Cathedral to the north
with the Globe Theatre and Tate Modern on Bankside. Construction of this infrastructure began in the
late 1998 by the engineering company Arup and it was launched on the 10 June 2000.
Structure of Bridge:
Structurally, the bridge is a composition of two key metals steel (2 x 1011 Nm 2) and aluminum.

This feature was achieved by ensuring that the sag ratio remained low. The bridge has also become a
navigation site for many commercial and tourist traffic in the River Thames Waterways.
Problems Occurred:
Furthermore, when the millennium bridge opened within the first weekend around 100,000 people had
crossed the bridge. Due to such heavy traffic, this lead to something called resonance. Resonance is
when the input vibrations frequency coincides with the natural frequency of the structure itself,
causing large deflections to develop. The issue caused the bridge to undergo a swaying movement;
hence led to its closure. After extensive research and analysis, it was found that the movement was
caused by synchronized pedestrian footfall. To prevent this there were two options taken into account
the lateral stiffening and the damping; both were used in order to increase the natural frequency of the
structure so it did not match the footfall. In addition structures called fluid viscous dampers and tuned
mass dampers were installed to control both horizontal and vertical movements.
In Relation To Practical:
The visit influences our practical as we gain an understanding of how in the engineering industry
selection of materials is determined using indicators such as Young s Modulus. Young s Modulus is a
measure of stiffness that is independent of the particular sample of a substance. This indicator is very
vital as it determines the material s strength, toughness

Anger Management and Health Essay
Anger Management and Health
Everybody feels anger from time to time. People have been documented feeling anger since biblical
times when God was considered angry. Babies even exhibit signs that are interpreted as anger, such as
crying or screaming. Anger is not in any way unique to people. Animals also have the ability to feel
and express anger.
In our personal lives we get angry over at least one thing on almost a daily basis, whether it be on the
job, with a spouse or loved one, or perhaps with a figure of authority. Many psychologists have
written about anger, discussing the relationship between anger and fear. Each of the individuals that

The authors of When Anger Hurts: Anger in Modern
Life explain the complications that chronic anger can create. Doctors have long suspected that anger
increases the blood rate. Many scientists now point out that norepinepherine, the drug that is secreted
during anger, increases blood pressure as well. Anger and abnormally high blood pressure are
correlated; and high blood pressure leads to many forms of heart disease. In a recent study
1,623 patients were interviewed an average of four days after they had suffered a heart attack
following an outburst of anger. The study showed that the risk of suffering a heart attack is doubled
after an outburst of anger. (3) The psychologist Franz Alexander s hypothesized in 1839 that
hypertesnisves lack basic assertive skills. Psychological studies have repeatedly backed
Alexander s assertion theory ever since. (4)
High blood pressure is said to be caused by uncontrolled anger, which in turn is caused by a lack of
assertion. If we bottle up our anger now, then we will feel it later. Eventually our arteries will grow
weak and we will remain tense, living daily with treacherous moods and health. The alternative is to
shout out our anger at the world and let it manifest itself any way that it pleases. Of course, taking our
anger out at the world can have even more deleterious effects. People just don t like it when we
demonstrate our anger.
Many of us are taught at an early age to bury our anger

Betrayal, Justice and Passivity in Roald Dahl s Lamb to...
Roald Dahl, a British novelist, offered his readers a classical short story, Lamb to the Slaughter, with
the tale of betrayal, justice, injustice and passivity. Two main characters of the story are detective Mr.
Patrick and Ms. Patrick who live in small town. Roald Dahl tries to reflect human nature of perversity,
and cruelty through the Lamb to the Slaughter . As the story progresses, theme of love, passion,
betrayal and injustice grow stronger. Author smartly shows us how an idle wife becomes a smart
criminal to take the revenge of her betrayal and successes to trick officers. As the first paragraph is

Thus, Author greatly described 1960s housewife as loving, passionate and energetic for her husband.
Author also surprises readers, when he introduces conflict between a couple that used to love each
other deeply. Diverting the story from love to betrayal, author develops an irony. In the story, reader
sees two examples of betrayal. Ms. Maloney, while talking with her tired husband, finds out her
husband no longer want to keep their marriage. Without giving any kind of reason, Patrick betrays her
wife with a decision of breaking marriage. Mary shocks, when her husband, boldly, says, This is going
to be bit shock of you (P. Maloney) Author creates a total opposite picture of Patrick by describing
him as a husband who used to give her wife surprises; he is now giving her shock in the middle of her
pregnancy. Mary, who was previously shown as anxiety less (Dahl), with a slow smiling air (Dahl)
and curiously tranquil (Dahl), had began to get upset and now inculcate her eye with a bewildered
look. After betrayed by her husband, she, without any argue, she goes to the basement to look for
frozen food. She decides to have leg of a lamb as a last dinner with her husband, but she smashes the
frozen leg in to Patrick s head with killing him. Mary betrays her husband by killing him and takes

Singlepass Lutte Research Paper
Curling your hair with aluminum foil might sound like an outside of the box kind of idea, but you ll be
surprised how effective it is when you tried it yourself. If you have thin, volumeless hair like mine,
this trick is a total life changer. It takes much quicker to finish your entire head than a regular curling
wand, not to mention that it s much less traumatic for those who just start experimenting with hair
styling tools (I mean, who didn t burn their face or hands using a curling iron?).
For this tutorial, I ll be using my new favorite flat iron by T3, the SinglePass Luxe. It s a newly

Grab a small section of your hair and wrap it around your finger in a loop. Make sure that the end of
each section stays in place so your curl look equally wavy from top to bottom.
PRO TIP: It doesn t matter which direction your loops are facing you ll still get great results using this
method!
Step 3. Grab a piece of tinfoil and wrap each loop of hair in it. Don t use too much or too little
aluminum foil for those purposes your hair should be fully covered, but you don t need many layers of
foil on top of your loop.
Step 4. Using a flat iron, scrunch the foil 3 4 times. Be careful, the foil will be very hot for the next
few seconds so either use heat protective gloves or make sure you arrange your foils in a way that
those do not touch your face.
PRO TIP: While you can put tinfoil all over your hair and then warm up each of the foil cocoons I
recommend heating your foils one by one. That way, you ll allow each piece stay warm for a longer
period of time (read: your curls will last longer!).
Step 5. Take out the foils one by one. Spritz with some hair spray and you are all set!
I hope you enjoyed this fun flat iron trick! Please comment below if you ever tried it yourself. Also,

The Characterization Of Benjamin Braddock In The Graduate
The characterization of Benjamin Braddock is apparent through the main focus of the 1967 coming of
age film, The Graduate. The point of view, cinematography, score and less so the dialog gives the
audience a detailed look into not only who Benjamin is as a person, but also the challenges he faces
throughout the film. The film focuses on the perspective of Ben himself, never really giving the
audience a chance to watch much else of anything, really. Occasionally, the camera angle is intended
to be from his perspective, in the case of through the scuba mask or while watching Elaine. This
further emphasizes the focus on what Ben as an individual is doing and seeing. While the perspective
definitely emphasizes what the audience should be focusing on, they aren t given much of a chance to
focus on anything else. The entire film is so strictly set on Ben, and all other characters as individuals
are focused on so little, that the audience can t really decide what to pay attention to, but rather are
told what to. The cinematography plays a large role in characterizing Benjamin, potentially more so
than anything else. The credit scene show Ben on a moving walkway in an airport with people moving
all around him while The Sound of Silence plays over the expected noises of LAX airport. While the
symbolism of the moving walkway seems to say that ben is simply being moved through life rather
than actively moving himself through it, with life continuing on all around him, more

Matt Ridley s The Red Queen
In the book, The Red Queen, the author Matt Ridley claims that men find women s ratio of waist
width to hip width attractive (Ridley 292). It was observed by Physiologist Dev Singh who argued that
a man will find a woman extremely attractive as long as her waist is much thinner than her hips

Throughout human time, this waist to hip ratio theory has changed on what is preferable (Bovet and

(Bovet and Raymond 1). I also found that a woman s waist to hip ration also provides information

A Research Study On Pet Scans
Neuroscience has evolved in the last 20 years due to the development of new machines and techniques
which can measure the structure and the activity of the brain itself. This has allowed cognitive
neuroscientists to conduct more in depth research of the function of the brain. One method used by
neuroscientist s is Position Emission Tomography (PET). A PET scan measures the blood flow, brain
metabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a harmless dose of a
radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is taken up by cells and
accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). The radioactive element releases positrons which are
detected by the scan showing which parts of the brain are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be able
to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013).
Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI unlike
PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves emitted from
hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field that is passed over the
head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner and is then altered into a
structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for example, CT scans, as they
provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for neuroscientists to identify any
abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has relatively high spatial resolution and it
can produce images in three dimensions which can give a more advanced view into the brain (Martin,
2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia.
For example, an MRI study found that compared to healthy subjects, schizophrenic patients showed
smaller volumes of grey matter in the temporal lobe and smaller volumes of white matter in the frontal
lobe. Schizophrenic patients also had a higher volume of

Reasons For The Collapse Of The Han And Mayan Empires
A number of complex and enduring empires have dominated large parts of Afro Eurasia, and Meso
America. Among these were the Han Empire in China, the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean Basin,
and the Maya in Meso America. These empires had wealth, power, and they are a vast size, but they
all suffered their unfortunate collapse. There are multiple factors that contribute to the collapse of
these empires such as warfare, taxes, the environment, problems with the government, religion, and
shortage of resources like food and water. The reasons for the collapse of the Han and the Mayan
empires are very similar. However, there are also some striking differences of the reasons why these
empires collapsed. The Han Empire s disintegration happened because of 3 reasons: warfare,
governmental problems, taxes, and shortage of resources like food and water. Warfare had an impact
on the failure of the Han Empire because they needed a lot of strong and efficient armies which led to
the need for manpower, food, horses, and weapons. These needs couldn t be fulfilled because the taxes
were so high (governmental problem) that the peasants had no way of paying their taxes resulting
many joining rich land owning generals lands which means that these peasants are now under their

Women s Suffrage By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
In the late 1800 s women were tired of being put on the back burner. Women were not able to vote,
work certain jobs and some were not able to get a basic education.
There were many political changes arising and women wanted to have a voice and take part of the
process. Women wanted to be considered equal with the same opportunities as men. In the 1840 s the
first women suffrage convention entitled Seneca Falls Convention took place some women thought
that their view were too extreme. .Many women such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony

Battle of Normandy Essay
One of the most significant encounters of World War II was the Battle of Normandy (the first day of
which is commonly referred to as D Day). Nearly three million soldiers were deployed for the
invasion. Those deployed consisted mainly of American and British soldiers, however Canadian,
French, Polish, Belgian, and Czech forces were represented as well (Jensen). The battle was fought in
an effort to gain European ground and to reduce the German potential for overrunning Russia (Lucas).
The Battle of Normandy was significant in that it was the turning point of World War II, incurred
heavy casualties on each side, and was the greatest amphibious landing in history (Cohen). The events
leading up to the Battle of Normandy are perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thousands of large still spikes (known as hedgehogs) were also sunk into the sand to halt the progress
of enemy tanks (Newark 145). Allied troops readied themselves for the assault. The attack on
Normandy had been pushed to June fifth, 1944; however the forecast on June third predicted
unfavorable conditions due to unusually high winds. The invasion ultimately took place on June 6th,
1944 (D Day) (Cohen). The first troops deployed into battle were paratroopers. Over thirteen thousand
U.S. paratroopers were dropped by an armada of C 47s behind German lines before dawn. Their
mission was to seize bridges, disrupt communications, and prevent German soldiers from reinforcing
the Normandy beaches as the Allied assault hit the coastline (Alberecht). Heavy cloud coverage made
for difficult navigation and forced many of the paratroopers to jump blind . This resulted in them
being scattered over a 100 square mile radius. Thirty five percent of these soldiers landed at their
designated drop point, while many others died when they landed in fields flooded by the Germans.
Despite all of this, the remaining troops were able to secure their intended positions (Dry). The next
phase in the Battle of Normandy was the storming of the beaches. A fleet of 4,000 ships carrying
176,000 men set sail. The chosen landing area was east of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy along
the beaches.

The Daffodils Comparison
Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William
Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers
wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils
quot; inspired
quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation,
which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he
wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William
Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a
beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the
poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that
are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but
with other people in the other parts of the poem.
The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a
multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from
creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy.
Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves
many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to
reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of
Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies
them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his
emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that
these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that
he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how
William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and
learn from it. William

Chris Matthews
I. All Politics Is Local My first topic comes from the All Politics Is Local section of Chris Matthews
book. In politics, anyone who holds a place or is trying to hold a place in the political scene is
constantly influencing others, correct? What Matthews means by all politics is local is basically if you
want to influence someone, do not focus on the big picture. Instead, you should focus on what matters
personally to the people you strive to influence. A fine example of this rule is Lawton Chiles. Chiles
was a sustained senator from the sunshine state of Florida. He rejected the appeal of well tailored, dark
blue suits that were so well worn in the nations capitol. Once, Chiles stated to a staff member, When I

What if the shots fired are complete lies? When you do not respond to those attacks, it creates damage,
and it is usually more so than you may realize. You can fire back by catching them in a lie, ridiculing
their accusations, or use the power of the opposing force to bring them down. Method No.1: Catch
Them in a Lie. Utah Senator Frank Moss was accused by his Republican opponent with supporting
violent demonstrations by students against the Vietnam War. By running ads in the newspaper
displaying the letter he had sent to young demonstrators supporting their cause, but urging them to
avoid violence, Moss destroyed his opponent. The headline of the paper read: Here s the Famous
Letter. This won the election of 1970. Method No.2: Ridicule. Franklin Roosevelt was running for a
fourth term in 1944 against Thomas Dewey. There were claims by the Republicans that Roosevelt had
abused office by dispatching a destroyer to retrieve his dog in Alaska. Roosevelt made a few classic
remarks at a Washington black tie dinner. He rose and said, Republican leaders have not been content
with attacks on me or my wife or my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog,
Fala. Well, of course, I don t resent attacks, and my family doesn t resent attacks, but Fala does resent
them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that Republican fiction
writers had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian

About this time I m supposed to get up here and tell you a little short story about myself, and start off like ever since I can remember, I have always wanted..... But instead I m be different and start it off a little something like this. I have not always wanted to be your class presentant, but what I have always wanted to do is say something that we all do not have the guts to say. The reason I believe I am the right candidate for this class president because I too don t believe that teachers and other staffs doesn t care about what we have to say or what we believe would be right for us, see if when we are going over the syllabus and we all are asking questions we get the response that we didn t want or hope for, If you vote for me I will have the desire to help make a change, I will help with extracurricular activities, money, and fights will be the issues I plan on mainly addressing. ... • 3. High Altitude Is Defined As An Elevation Of 1500-3500 Metres With regards to elevation, high altitude is defined as an elevation of 1,500 3,500 meters (4,900 11,500 ft.) but can differ by a 1,000 ft., depending on the defining source. The definition of elevation continues with very high altitude, which is 3,500 5,500 meters (11,500 18,000 ft.) then continues to extreme altitude of which is above 5,500 meters (18,000 ft.). Within healthy individuals, substantial clinical changes are difficult to exhibit at elevations lower than 1,500 meters. But once the human body reaches altitudes at or above high altitude, the adverse effects on the human body become increasing pronounced and considerable. As altitude increases, the barometric pressure falls and the environmental partial pressure of inspired oxygen decreases. The reduction of inspired oxygen, in combination with other environmental factors such as a decline in temperature, humidity, paired with physical activity, the human body must be able to compensate for the adverse effects opposed primarily on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Physical alterations within the cardiopulmonary system begin to be substantial over an altitude of 2500 meters. However, the human body can use both short term and long term means to adapt to high altitude, and even beyond that will allow the body to partially compensate or even fully compensate for the lack of oxygen. But, there is also a limit to the level of adaptation and compensation that can take place. Once an altitude of or above 8,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asian American Actors In Modern Media Deal With Whitewashed Asian American actors in modern media deal with whitewashed film and television, underrepresentation in major works, and casting in stereotypical roles. These three problems are rooted in the history of Asian American actors in film and television, and have been perpetrated by stereotypes that continue to this day. The purpose of this memo is to examine the modern industry of film and television through the eyes of Asian American actors, viewing the stereotypes and stigmas these actors face, and looking forward to see what can be done by casting directors to reduce harmful stereotyping and increase diversity in film and television. As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in film and television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have come around in the 1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create resentment and tension within America s minority groups (Huh 13). The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that valued hard work, family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a positive stereotype that exemplifies the values of the American Dream; however, academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues that the model minority stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white Americans. In this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian musical, Flower Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority, centering the story around the benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with traditional ways. (Mok 193). One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors often donned yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh 21). Although not many have gotten it right there are some movies that really capture the heart of an archaeologist. One excellent example is The Mummy directed by Stephen Sommers. The main characters in The Mummy are Rick played Brendan Fraser and Evelyn played Rachel Weisz. Evelyn works at Cairo s museum of Antiquities, and refers herself as a librarian, though she seems to have much knowledge of the Egyptian antiquities. When this part of the movie was going on, it reminded me of what we learned in our lecture about the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Although the movie took place in Egypt in 1925, and the laws were for people in the US, I saw several similarities on the events that took place. Evelyn was incredibly careful with what she did because she knew that the artifacts they found were of great value for the people of the dessert that protected Hamunaptra, but that didn t stop Evelyn and her team from opening up the sarcophagus and studying the mummy that was in it. • 6. Characters Of Sherlock Holmes By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Since the beginning of time, the contradiction between good and evil has been present in all stages of life. Everybody is capable of having good and evil in their lives, is just a great part of what defines a human being. In the books of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, there are many villainous characters that are constantly forcing this detective to go out of his way and offer a more honorable sense of justice. Specifically, Professor Moriarty, as is known as the most mysterious, popular and clever of all the corrupted characters of the novel. Sherlock Holmes is often considered as the other side of the coin, the good to Moriarty s evil, revealing that these two traits can come in any shape or form. Professor James Moriarty, shows up as a malevolent character in many of the fictional Sherlock Holmes stories. Is often overrated, but as a character he is really important, since in different versions of the stories he is the one responsible for Holmes s death. He is portrayed as a criminal mastermind who runs an illegal ring by taking people s secrets as a form of payment so he can then give away some of his protection, and gain what he really desires: power. Starting from the beginning, this frivolous character is like a master puppeteer, he is very intelligent, cunning and he enjoys to manipulate people who feel weak under his command. Bergson and Davis s theories have given people an indication of what that could be. Together these philosopher s theories enlighten us to why people might laugh. For instance, the example Bergson used was about a group of travelers laughing and a bystander not affiliated with the group, not laughing. Because the bystander was isolated from the group and not part of the joke, the bystander did not laugh. For this is a good example of no laughter in isolation, but there are cases where people can be alone and laugh at themselves in isolation. A person could trip over their kids toy and laugh because the toy was out of place, even though there was not another person present laughing with them. Bergson s three elements have strong observations, but there are components of it that are debatable that can limit this theory. The first limitation would be concerning that we only laugh at objects that we have stamped as human or ours. People can laugh at a variety of matters. Another issue would be with the absence of feeling coinciding with laughter because a person can claim that laughing while still feeling some sort of emotion is possible. For example, laughing about something that makes you happy, in that moment you are feeling an emotion while laughing. A person could also say that laughing is an emotion in itself. • 9. The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure, and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer. Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an Era of Excess: Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have ... Ivans grandparents are the first and the oldest generation of his family in America, therefore, a majority of the answers are of direction of his family s values towards his grandparents and the ethics that are taught by them. In addition, I came to understand more about his family s thoughts on the importance of elderlies, along with the loss of their heritage s way of life towards the elders. Ivan and his siblings were raised to love and respect their elders. The elders are the origin of the family and without the elders, none of them would be here today. Elders are wise and are sought out not only for advice and guidance, but are the caretakers of the family. Since elders are the root of the family and the up most respected, there are not one elder family member in a nursing home. When they are sick or too old to care for themselves, they live with a family member, we wipe their butt s, like they did ours, Ivan declared. • 12. Food Waste Disposal and Reduction According to the Society of St. Andrew the United States spends about 1 billion dollars a year just to dispose of food waste (1). Food waste is food material that is unable to be eaten or sold which is discarded as trash. Food should be too precious to Americans to waste. It nourishes people s bodies and brings families together, and they treat food as if it has little to no worth. Food is discarded on farms, while being transported and in retail stores before being sold; it is also discarded in everyday households. The Importance Of STEM Education The importance of transforming STEM teacher s professional development (PD) for the middle school is central to the standard based transformation of STEM education and knowledge based competition of the global economy. Because the knowledge based competition of the 21st century economy depends on the competitiveness of STEM education, improvement of STEM education is a national call. In addition, the needs for improvements in K 12 science education align with the needs for improvement in science teacher s PD. STEM jobs require higher creativity and innovation, thus STEM teachers and educational leaders are expected to encourage creativity and innovation in student learning regardless of barriers. Nevertheless, teachers are expected to overcome all barriers in order to foster active learning by students (Michael, 2007). In general, STEM education requires teacher s creativity and flexibility. This urges rethinking of the education leaders and researchers about identifying effective professional development for STEM teachers. STEM teacher s professional development is becoming much more important than ever for mainly three reasons. • 14. Group Of Emotion In Monet According to Claude Monet, a famous impressionist artist, It s on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. (as cited by Kendall, 2004). As artwork is chiefly depicted in many different ways, such as in natural, spiritual, objective, or subjective description, Monet believes that a plein air painting style can convey such profound feelings to audiences based on thorough observation and comprehension (Perry, 1927). Thus, there are four groups of emotion in Monet s paintings, which are serenity, loneliness, confusion, and joy. The first group of emotion in Monet s paintings is serenity. Joy is an emotion that reflects the fulfilment of human s desires involving the relationship. Monet, in general, depicts the happiness in his paintings based on a group of people and a nature as a subject matter (Stuart, 1916). A group of people represents love and caring between friends with an impressively intimate conversation. They share a moment of laughter while reminiscing the hilarious action of their friends. Furthermore, the beautiful nature around them, such as the flower bushes and the small trees, is depicted in a vividly bright tone of color as responded to the joyful moment of people. While, the their clothes are depicted in a more natural shade of color, such as blue and green. These colors imply that their feelings toward one another are perceptibly real and sincere as a natural color (Fitzgerald, 1905). The emotion of his paintings is mostly described in an amiable atmosphere of a group of people that shares a similar taste in particular subject (Fitzgerald, 1905). Monet paints them with the reminiscent emotion of his colleagues helping and supporting him through difficult times (Borgmeyer, 1912). A wonderful example of joyful moments in Monet s paintings is Le Déjeuner sur l herbe or known as The luncheon on the Grass (Isaacson, 1972). The subject matter is a group of people having lunch together amid the beautiful nature. The colors in this painting include a natural shade of yellow, green, and blue. My Experience With My Mentor I can still remember the talk with my friends before September when I told them how scared I was to take this course since I could not imagine me, myself, to handle a 90 minute class on my own. When I was informed that I was assigned to an ALI level 6 class, I was shocked. I could not help thinking about that I was actually a level 6 student last year and how could I teach students that had the same language proficiency as I did. I was anxious, panic, confused and unsure about myself before my first observation. I kept emailing my supervisor and told her how I was not confident about myself; I remember I failed to speak English fluently for the beginning few weeks since I noticed that my mentor and my students were judging me while I was speaking; I rewrote my lesson plan for more than three times to meet my mentor s expectations... my voice might be a little bit shaky when I was first observed. And I kept talking to make the class more teacher centered so that I could control the class better. It is so magic that as soon as I accomplished my first class being observed, I felt released and I felt that I learned something. It cannot be expressed verbally, but I could feel it. • 16. Walter Sobchak Should Be Charged Under New York Penal Law... Question 1: Based on the evidence, Walter Sobchak should be charged under New York Penal Law 125.25, which is murder in the second degree. Upon seeing is wife Meara Ramos, in bed with James P. Sullivan, Sobchak makes the conscious decision to pick up his firearm, a deadly weapon and shoot it at Sullivan which reveals his intent to cause the death of another person. Unfortunately, the bullet ultimately travels outside, hitting and killing Edward Vedder; an innocent bystander. In his attempt to murder Sullivan; Sobchak, causes the death of a third person. By picking up the gun and firing it, Sobchak recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and although it does not harm Sullivan, the intended victim it does cause the death of another person. Under these circumstances Sobchak, is wholly responsible for the death of Vedder and liable under 125.25. In this case I can easily envision a defense premised on emotional distress. The sight of another man in bed with his wife caused Sobchak, to act under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance. It could be argued that it is reasonable for a devoted husband to take this course of action given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would not have. However, given the holding in Patterson v. New York, it would fall completely upon the shoulders of Sobchak s defense team to prove any affirmative defense, as the prosecution is required only to prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Financial Accounting Standards Board Essay On February 26, 2016, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued an Accounting Standards Update (ASU) which revised the standards on leasing. The intent for this revision was to improve how leases are being reported on the financial statements. The consensus is that the classification tests in current use for making this determination fail to provide a faithful and accurate representation for leasing transactions in general. In 2005, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission had also made recommendations which indicated this need for change in regard to how leases were being reported. Overall, it is believed that this change would ensure greater transparency in the financial statements concerning these type transactions. As commonplace as lease arrangements are, accounting for leases are not quite so clear cut. One of the hotly debated topics for leasing standards that is currently being discussed is how off balance sheet financing presents an erroneous and misleading view of a company s true financial position. This problem began when companies would plan ways to circumvent the rules currently under U.S. GAAP in attempts to classify leases as operating leases when in actuality they were capital leases. An example of this when a company purposely designs the leasing arrangements so that the lease ends at 74% of the asset s estimated life whereas one of the U.S. GAAP criteria for leases directs that it must be a non cancellable lease term that is ... John Proctor was a hardworking licentious farmer before the witch trials came to town, but when all was said and done, he chose the religious answer to the question of lying or dieing Arthur Miller shows the greatest transformation in Reverend Hale and John Proctor in order to convey that when people of usually certain manners are under extreme duress, they prefer religious/moral arguments over other arguments they favored ... This reaction to what he thought was unreasonable (Abigail seeing what he couldn t) drove him to the action of quitting the court. A secondary example of his transformation is when he sees John Proctor readying to sign the paper, saving his own life. When Danforth is close to stopping the signature from being written for he fears his confession may be false, Hale pleads Excellency, it is enough he confess himself. Let him sign it, let him sign it! . This further shows Hale s distaste of the law by showing him prefer to keep John Proctor (a man he knows to be good, not a witch as the paper would imply) alive, instead of hanging, a perceived false confession would lead to. The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related. Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time. Due to such heavy traffic, this lead to something called resonance. Resonance is when the input vibrations frequency coincides with the natural frequency of the structure itself, causing large deflections to develop. The issue caused the bridge to undergo a swaying movement; hence led to its closure. After extensive research and analysis, it was found that the movement was caused by synchronized pedestrian footfall. To prevent this there were two options taken into account the lateral stiffening and the damping; both were used in order to increase the natural frequency of the structure so it did not match the footfall. In addition structures called fluid viscous dampers and tuned mass dampers were installed to control both horizontal and vertical movements. The point of view, cinematography, score and less so the dialog gives the audience a detailed look into not only who Benjamin is as a person, but also the challenges he faces throughout the film. The film focuses on the perspective of Ben himself, never really giving the audience a chance to watch much else of anything, really. Occasionally, the camera angle is intended to be from his perspective, in the case of through the scuba mask or while watching Elaine. This further emphasizes the focus on what Ben as an individual is doing and seeing. While the perspective definitely emphasizes what the audience should be focusing on, they aren t given much of a chance to focus on anything else. The entire film is so strictly set on Ben, and all other characters as individuals are focused on so little, that the audience can t really decide what to pay attention to, but rather are told what to. The cinematography plays a large role in characterizing Benjamin, potentially more so than anything else. The credit scene show Ben on a moving walkway in an airport with people moving all around him while The Sound of Silence plays over the expected noises of LAX airport. A PET scan measures the blood flow, brain metabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a harmless dose of a radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is taken up by cells and accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be able to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013). Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI unlike PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves emitted from hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field that is passed over the head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner and is then altered into a structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for example, CT scans, as they provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for neuroscientists to identify any abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has relatively high spatial resolution and it can produce images in three dimensions which can give a more advanced view into the brain (Martin, 2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia. Thousands of large still spikes (known as hedgehogs) were also sunk into the sand to halt the progress of enemy tanks (Newark 145). Allied troops readied themselves for the assault. The attack on Normandy had been pushed to June fifth, 1944; however the forecast on June third predicted unfavorable conditions due to unusually high winds. The invasion ultimately took place on June 6th, 1944 (D Day) (Cohen). The first troops deployed into battle were paratroopers. Over thirteen thousand U.S. paratroopers were dropped by an armada of C 47s behind German lines before dawn. Their mission was to seize bridges, disrupt communications, and prevent German soldiers from reinforcing the Normandy beaches as the Allied assault hit the coastline (Alberecht). Heavy cloud coverage made for difficult navigation and forced many of the paratroopers to jump blind . This resulted in them being scattered over a 100 square mile radius. Thirty five percent of these soldiers landed at their designated drop point, while many others died when they landed in fields flooded by the Germans. Despite all of this, the remaining troops were able to secure their intended positions (Dry). The next phase in the Battle of Normandy was the storming of the beaches. A fleet of 4,000 ships carrying 176,000 men set sail. The chosen landing area was east of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy along the beaches. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Daffodils Comparison Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem. The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy. Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and learn from it. • 44. Chris Matthews I. All Politics Is Local My first topic comes from the All Politics Is Local section of Chris Matthews book. In politics, anyone who holds a place or is trying to hold a place in the political scene is constantly influencing others, correct? What Matthews means by all politics is local is basically if you want to influence someone, do not focus on the big picture. Instead, you should focus on what matters personally to the people you strive to influence. A fine example of this rule is Lawton Chiles. Chiles was a sustained senator from the sunshine state of Florida. He rejected the appeal of well tailored, dark blue suits that were so well worn in the nations capitol. Once, Chiles stated to a staff member, When I dress like that no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What if the shots fired are complete lies? When you do not respond to those attacks, it creates damage, and it is usually more so than you may realize. You can fire back by catching them in a lie, ridiculing their accusations, or use the power of the opposing force to bring them down. Method No.1: Catch Them in a Lie. Utah Senator Frank Moss was accused by his Republican opponent with supporting violent demonstrations by students against the Vietnam War. By running ads in the newspaper displaying the letter he had sent to young demonstrators supporting their cause, but urging them to avoid violence, Moss destroyed his opponent. The headline of the paper read: Here s the Famous Letter. This won the election of 1970. Method No.2: Ridicule. Franklin Roosevelt was running for a fourth term in 1944 against Thomas Dewey. There were claims by the Republicans that Roosevelt had abused office by dispatching a destroyer to retrieve his dog in Alaska. Roosevelt made a few classic remarks at a Washington black tie dinner. He rose and said, Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me or my wife or my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. Well, of course, I don t resent attacks, and my family doesn t resent attacks, but Fala does resent them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that Republican fiction writers had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian ...
