Discussion of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism
Q2. Outline and discuss the four noble truths: is the Buddhist view of existence optimistic or
pessimistic?
The question of the Buddhist view of existence being optimistic or pessimistic is one which is many
have an opinion on. It could be said that the four noble truths provide the views of the Buddha in the
way that life is led and more importantly, should be led. Certainly, the end goal is clearly optimistic,
the attainment of spiritual enlightenment, or nirvana. However, the Buddhist view of life as we lead it
is often deemed pessimistic as it is so concerned with suffering. As there is more than one school of
thought to, is the Buddhist view of existence of optimistic or pessimistic? our understanding of these
truths is crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pleasure, prosperity, success and fame are short term gains. This is what the Buddha taught as the
Second Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering Desire (Tanha). Again these could be considered a very
pessimistic view of the human condition. Nothing has any permanent meaning, life s hard and then we
die.
Ignorance of the Buddha s teachings, might attribute all happiness and suffering to some external
cause, believing that happiness and suffering come from the environment, or from the gods, and that
everything that happens originates in some source outside of one s control. If one believes this, then it
is extremely hard, if not impossible, to envisage eliminating suffering and its causes which is in itself
an extremely pessimistic point of view. On the other hand, when a person accepts responsibility that
experience of suffering is a product of what the self has done, that is, a result of personal karma,
eliminating suffering becomes a real possibility. Buddhism believes that once awareness of suffering
takes place, one can begin to remove the causes of suffering. This is the understanding of karma.
Accepting responsibility for our own behaviour is an essential part of being able to change it, and a
real source of optimism. The third noble truth is the cessation of suffering. Our cessation of suffering
is something that we cannot depend on anyone else to help us with, because it is such a personal thing.
The truth of universal origination means that if our

Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics
Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on,
evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums is
the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female
professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more
gender equality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be.
According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those
women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are
Fortune 500 CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold positions at
the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014), ...although women
make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent only 8 percent of the
highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner are proof that there are still
problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world, especially when the women are of a
minority background. Fortunately, as will be discussed in this assignment, this gender gap is beginning
to close as women are standing their ground and fighting for the positions and pay that they deserve.

Asian American Actors In Modern Media Deal With Whitewashed
Asian American actors in modern media deal with whitewashed film and television,
underrepresentation in major works, and casting in stereotypical roles. These three problems are
rooted in the history of Asian American actors in film and television, and have been perpetrated by
stereotypes that continue to this day. The purpose of this memo is to examine the modern industry of
film and television through the eyes of Asian American actors, viewing the stereotypes and stigmas
these actors face, and looking forward to see what can be done by casting directors to reduce harmful
stereotyping and increase diversity in film and television.

One problem that arises when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in film and
television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have come around in the
1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create resentment and tension within America
s minority groups (Huh 13).
The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that valued hard work,
family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a positive stereotype that exemplifies the
values of the American Dream; however, academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues
that the model minority stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white
Americans. In this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by
acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian musical, Flower
Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority, centering the story around the
benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with traditional ways. (Mok 193).
One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors often donned
yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at
Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh
21). These characteristics meant to capitalize on the race of the character: by changing his appearance

How Is Othello Racist
Moor or Less Racist Rough Draft
The tragedy of Othello, written by William Shakespeare, involves a romantic union of white and
black, which is gruesomely torn apart by outsiders within the community through manipulation,
bringing the couple to their fatal end. The esteemed Othello is a black man with a high rank in the
army living in the city of Venice among fair skinned native Venetians. Within the play, racism
definitely plays a huge role in the public s views and stereotypes of Othello. The reader must consider
these other characters motivations for their words, however. The reader must also consider the drastic
difference between the ways that we understand race today, versus how our ancestors saw race back in
the sixteenth century, when the story takes place. During this time, people were believed to be
controlled by their humors, or body fluids, and they are greatly affected by their geographical
positions and changes. Some scholars have argued that Othello is a racist, disgusting play, which

The evil character Iago has a plan to hurt and make Othello jealous from the beginning because he is
incredibly jealous of him. Iago continually makes trouble by taking Othello s special handkerchief and
giving it to Cassio to make it appear as though Desdemona is cheating on him. Emilia, Iago s wife
proclaims to Iago, You told a lie, an odious, damned lie! Upon my soul, a lie, a wicked lie! She false
with Cassio? Did you say with Cassio? (5.2.176 177). Iago consistently talks to Othello, creating a
curiosity and paranoia inside him, causing Othello to be manipulated into becoming this barbaric
creature and falling into those initial stereotypes of his race. Taking Iago s puppet tearing into account,
Othello did not fall into black stereotypes naturally, but did so by an evil puppet master Iago who

The Education Of Special Needs
The Education of Special Needs in
Public, Private, and Charter Schools
Jerissa R. Gregory
Liberty University
Abstract Education is important to all children, but teaching children with special needs entails the
educator to examine and assess the social, behavior, intellectual and academic deficits of the student
and devise an instructional plan that will support their excellence in these areas. Teaching in a
classroom with children who have disabilities pertains to various teaching methods that insist the
teacher individualize lessons to achieve academic excellence in students. We will examine to special
education requirements in public, private and charter schools. Many inclusion classrooms have the
necessary support which include services and accommodations to establish a learning environment
conducive to the students learning abilities. Although the education system has become far more
advanced than it was and children with disabilities have more access to supports and services,
problems still remain like they still lag behind their non disabled peers in educational achievements,
are often held to lower expectations, are less likely to take the full academic curriculum in high school
and more likely to drop out (Aron, Loprest p. 97). Early detection can help prevent secondary
disabilities and detect early disabilities and allow for the proper intervention strategies to be in place.

with his sister, Caddy. Throughout Benjamin section, fire is mentioned more than forty times. Benjy is
fascinated by the fire: What is fire to Benjy? It is something he can see as more immediate and

The History Of Product Design
The history of product design is a fickle subject. Through the years, the wheel has been invented and
re invented many a time. That is because design is fluid. But at the same time, design is constant.
Often the past inspires the present. Even more, the ideas of what the future can hold can end up
creating the future of design. These design ideas can be seen trickling into both the works of Vico
Magistretti and James Dyson. Often it is said that no one creates anything new anymore. It is true that
you can t reinvent the wheel, but it can certainly be seen that designs from the past often inspire the
future of design. Designs by Vico Magistretti in the 20th century have similar aesthetics to the designs
of James Dyson, a 21st century inventor, and designer. Designs of James Dyson show that the present
is rooted in the past. Designs and products of Vico Magistretti show that simple designs are timeless.
Designs and products of James Dyson show that basic design philosophies are often repeated through
time.
Vico Magistretti is best known not just as an industrial designer, but as an architect as well. It actually
seems like a natural combination. Even Frank Lloyd Wright is known to have designed the entire
living experience surrounding his architectural planning. While Magistretti did not so far as to even
design the clothes the homeowners were to wear, it only makes sense that Magistretti would envision
his designs housed within yet another one of his designs.

Truman Capote s The Cold Blood
Truman Capote s In Cold Blood is a stupendously written book, regularly acclaimed for it s
unparalleled style. As needs be, readers mustn t look exceptionally far before they discover a surplus
of rhetoric. Capote is regularly credited with having made the first crime novel, and he didn t get this
praise by composing such as others. He utilized his fascinating composition style to make his readers
feel as if they were really in the book, rather than preserving the barrier between the reader and the
page. He permitted them to get inside the character s heads and truly know them, seeing flickers into
the character s pasts while, likewise, foretelling events to come. He wrote with a very, for the time,
eccentric style, but also one that ended up being incredibly powerful.
Capote was genuinely a craftsman with his words. His utilization of imagery throughout makes the
reader feel as if they are truly in Kansas, Nevada, Mexico or wherever else Capote put them. This is
evident as Capote paints the image, Mountains. A hawk wheeling in a white sky. A dusty road winding
into and out of a white and dusty village, (107) which permit the reader to feel like they, themselves,
are in Mexico. Capote rehashes the same technique merely a page after, emphasizing the cruciality of
the scene. At that point, Capote portrays Richard Hickock s cold, oily tortilla leaving a greasy taste in
the reader s mouth. Capote s capacity to paint an image out of words was significant to In

Old Chillingworth In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a book written about the punishment of bearing the
cost of Adultery. This features the leading character, Hester Prynne, letting the reader see her as a
symbol of courage and how the effect of a single letter can have on one s life. Hester Prynne and her
lover have too many problems in the result of the letter, with one, of course, being the vengeful pursuit
of her husband, Roger Chillingworth. Hester s betrayal sparks Chillingworth s nature as the
antagonists in the story, with his desire for revenge and his self inflicted moral deterioration. His keen
attributes, combined with his madness, results in the novel s main idea of the consequences of sin.
This leaves Old Chillingworth s as being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives him the chance to interact with Hester on good terms, but that is quickly neutralized when
his kindness was due to luring out the truth. His rise to fame in the town assigns him to the dimming
Reverend, Arthur Dimmesdale. His villainy, in this case, enhances the plot by placing Dimmesdale
right in the lion s den; leaving Chillingworth to be able to poke and prod at Dimmesdale conscience, a
strategy that Dimmesdale did not notice. His torment of the already weak Reverend shows his twisted
mentality and lack of human remorse, which eventually is the downfall of Arthur Dimmesdale and the
doctor himself. Chillingworth s actions towards the Reverend is revealed when his true colors are
exposed by the light given off of the meteor. Now his presence stands for the confirmation that he is
an evil man and the continuation of torturing the Rev. though now it is going to be physical damage
rather than his spiritual self. His descent into madness is characterized by his outward appearance that
is noticeable by both Hester and the townspeople, At first his expression had been calm, meditative,
scholar like. Now there was something ugly and evil in his face, which they had not previously
noticed, and which still grew more obvious

The History of Mathematics Essay
What is the meaning of history? According to Merriam Webster s online dictionary, history is: past
events that relate to a particular subject, place, organization, etc (Merriam Webster, 2014). Math began
in 30000BC and is still changing now in 2014. During each year, something new has happened. From
30000BC to 127BC there were many things happening for the beginning of math. In 30000BC,
Palaeolithics in Europe and France recorded numbers on bones. Around 25000BC, there were signs of
early geometric designs being used. Egypt was using a decimal number system around 5000BC.

A Reflection Of My Education In The Landscape Architecture
Presentations, Methods, and Media has truly been a gateway to what I believe to be the rest of my
education in the Landscape Architecture program. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this
class. It acts as the training wheels for our design, style, technique, and literacy in the field. If we didn
t have a baseline built by this class I personally, as well as many of my peers would quite honestly be
lost. I came into the class thinking I had a great baseline knowledge of plans and much of what went
into the design process of a landscape; I was wrong. The first thing I thought upon seeing the name
Presentations, Methods, and Media was that I would be in a lecture style class learning about how
landscapes had been done over the years, yet again I was wrong. The first thing Taze, a then quite
intimidating individual, handed us was a pop quiz on patterns easy enough, or so I thought. After
about two patterns, I realized I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, nor what half of the patterns
meant. The whole class failing the quiz didn t start my first impression of the class off well, but I was
reassured by Taze each and everyone would soon be masters of the then daunting patterns. We
practiced for days upon days until the strokes slowly became memory. We worked in and out of class
to better our skills at the same patterns over and over again, to the point I thought we wouldn t do
anything else, I was wrong about that one too. The strokes now seem to be memory and

Rock And Roll Outline
a. What is rock and roll?
i. Rock and roll music began developing in the 1950s and still continues to grow today. This is a type
of music that almost everybody in the world is somewhat familiar with due to how popular and
successful rock and roll has become. Today, rock and roll represents almost one third of the U.S.
market and more than twice the market share of the second place rap/hip hop. (online book, cite). One
of many reasons rock and roll grew to be so infectious is because of its acceptance of all people no
matter their race, gender, style, etc. This genre has several sub genres that have branched off from the
original rock and roll style, all of which contributed to making rock and roll so contagious.

Due to lack of rightful accreditation back in the 1950s, Helen Kolawole expresses her opinion about
how the entertainment industry should finally be upfront about the originations of several hit songs
that credited white artists instead of the originators who were black. For example, Elvis Presley is a
well respected legend who was known as the king of rock and roll. Due to Elvis being so successful in
his career, the issue of several songs recorded by him, originally being written by black artists, arises
and irritates people of the African American race. It is prejudiced that this white God is forever
remembered as one of the biggest stars in history when his success was partly based off of black
artists who continue to be unrecognized. It is fair to say that several white artists are better known for
their success over black artists. Helen Kolowale makes a valid point in relation to media arrogance
and dishonesty means we are eternally bound to live in a skewed world where Elvis is king of rock n

Civil War And Reconstruction Era
Cause of Exoduster Migration to the West
In the late nineteenth century, as the civil war and reconstruction era drew to an end, newly freed
African Americans were still faced with many problems. Slavery had taken up most if their lives and
now that they were free with no jobs. Most resorted in being farmers to former slave owners to make a

blacks the right to purchase or even rent land. The Freedmen s Bureau was issued in an effort to bring
freed people to full citizenship. This would help with getting the African Americans jobs, houses,
education, land, and anything necessary to start their new lives. By 1879, Benjamin Pap Singleton, a

Executive Summary Main differences of Zeus from its main competitor are its customer oriented
services, their core strategy of teamwork and they used municipal bond fund to purchase securities.
Estimation of risk adjusted returns is important to Zeus as In Zeus opinion, investors will not pay for
the higher return generated by merely taking the higher risk. Investors demand Zeus to utilise
professional skills to provide them with a return above the benchmark. There are also advantages and
disadvantages of each of the risk adjusted return measures employed, making some of them to be
better applied to a specific type of fund comparison than the others. Introduction: Zeus Asset

Disadvantaged: Only useful as a sub portfolio measure of a board or fully diversified portfolio. Jasen s

the averaging property. For Zeus, risk adjusted return is very important due to several reasons: By
analyzing the performance of the various mutual funds, it would help the company to establish its
internal rules regarding the level or risk and return. They can use this method to measure the excess
return they earned for each unit of risk they take. It is more comparable to the benchmark and other
portfolios with different structure and risk level. Benchmark comparison Equity fund: Zeus s equity

Propaganda In Nazi Germany
During the Holocaust, various forms of propaganda were infused into everyday aspects of life for the
German citizens. The Nazi Party used many of these forms to target the many differing citizens of
Germany to believe in the Nazi ideology. These forms of propaganda included books, films,
newspapers, rallies, radio broadcastings, etc. All of these forms of propaganda were either created or
altered by the Nazi Party for the sole purpose of manipulating the ordinary German citizens into
hating their Jewish friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Almost every aspect of life was placed under
the control and influence of the Nazi Party in Germany for all of its citizens. Instead of having normal

Films were made to spread the Nazi ideology across Germany to manipulate the citizens as did
newspapers. In Germany, the cartoons in the newspapers portrayed the Jewish people with antisemitic
caricatures. Rallies held by the Nazi Party in the Zeppelinfeld were propaganda events used to arouse
enthusiasm and show off the power of National Socialism. All of these forms of propaganda worked
together to manipulate an entire nation into supporting acts of genocide. The Nazis were not the only
people committing acts of genocide against the Jewish people. Ordinary German citizens were
manipulated into supporting the crimes committed against the Jewish people with propaganda. These
citizens did not have a lot of options, so they either actively participated, supported from the sidelines,
resisted the Nazi Party silently, or risked their lives to help the Jewish people in

High School And College Students
Most high school and college students are required to take an art course in order to graduate. However
this idea should be forced because not all majors have something to do with art; for example, a doctor,
lawyer, math teacher, etc. don t need any type of art in order to accomplish what they want to do.
Instead they should skip the art course of get an additional class that will help them with their future
career. Some people that don t have any interest in art may find the art course difficult because they
are interested in it and therefore won t put as much effort than does who are interested. The Goals
2000 Educate America Act was passed in 1994 and in declared that all schools should teach arts
programs.(Fran Smith). However, this regulation shouldn t have been done because, there may be
some students really interested in art and looking forward for a career in any type of arts and the rest
of the students that aren t as interested as the others would distract the students and not allow them to
acknowledge what they are suppose to learn. The numbers for musical courses has dropped about 46%
from 1999 2000 through 2000 2004. (Fran Smith) This means that students are not into arts and
students are focusing in other courses or subjects instead of art courses. So why should a student take
a class that would not benefit them? Why make them study for something useless to them? Why not
give them a class related to their major? Some students either in college or high

Getting to the End
I was too tired and weak to bother protesting anymore. Long had it been since the fight had left me.
Now I watched as if an outsider as my limp body was shoved onto a packed train that would take us to
our deaths. If we didn t die on the way first. Time passed me without meaning and the train took off
with a lurch. We flew over track, and the effect of so many bodies crammed together was stifling.
Perhaps we weren t humans at all, but the other species the Germans talked about and said didn t
deserve the air they breathed. Were we not in fact, packed like animals on their way to the
slaughterhouse? Surely a human would never be treated this way. But a distant memory tugged at me
of a time when I did mean something. Before I was branded with the name Jew and my former friends
turned me out. A hacking cough from next to me aroused me into motion. Turning my head, the
delicate bones in my neck ached. My heart grew heavy at the sight in front of me, but by now I had
seen many sights far worse than the one laid out before me. She looked more like a shell of a person
than anything else. Her clothes were threadbare, and her arms and legs weren t much more than sticks.
Her eyes were closed, and I couldn t perceive any movement in her at all. Just another one dead, I
thought, but just as I was turning my head away from her, her eyelids fluttered open. Pity overtook
me, knowing these were her last few moments, and I turned back to her. What s your name? I asked

Terrorism is the systematic use of violence by a group of people in order to intimidate a population or
coerce a government into granting its demands. There are different types of terrorism like, State,
Foreign, and Domestic. State terrorism is the systematic use of terror by a government in order to
control its population. Additionally, there is religious terrorism which is terrorism that is motivated by
religious ideologies. Foreign terrorism is committed outside the US, while Domestic is committed
inside the US. The Palestinian Liberation Organization is the first terrorist organization in the middle

main goal of the organization was the liberation of Palestine. Additionally, the Palestinian fight against
Israel has been coordinated by the PLO. Israel has permitted the organization a limited form of
government in much of the West Bank and Gaza, called the Palestinian Authority. Most Palestinians
are not satisfied with either the territory or the power granted to them by Israel. They want to continue

The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been Successful in Explaining Attachments
There are various psychological theories to regard as which have been successful in explaining
attachments and I will be explaining the majority of them.
Sigmund Freud developed a theory of personality an explanation of how each individual s personality
develops. This theory can be used to explain many aspects of behaviour, including attachment.
Feud proposed that attachment grows out of the feeding relationship. In essence Freud claimed that
infants are born with an innate drive to seek pleasure. He called this the pleasure principle, and
suggested that one structure of the personality (id) was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship with the primary caregiver acts as a template for all later relationships
However, the classic experiments of Harry Harlow (1959) on rhesus monkeys demonstrated that this
theory was inadequate. This study concerned rhesus monkeys who were raised on their own by two
wire mothers . One wire mother had a feeding bottle attached and the other and the other was wrapped
in soft cloth but offered no cloth. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys should have
become attached to the mother associated with food and offering drive reduction. In fact, the monkeys
spent most time with the cloth covered mother and would cling to it especially when they were
frightened.
These studies suggest that cupboard love is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though we
must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to
generalise the findings to human behaviour.
Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of attachments
in 60 infants who came largely from working class homes in Glasgow. The infants were observed over
a period of a year in their homes.
The results of the study proved that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them, nor to
the person who spent most time with them. They were most attached to the person who was most
responsive and interacted

A Book Call The Mythical Man Month
Man Month which represents the production effort a single persons in a 4 week period. This is also
known as labor month. To figure out the total hour of a man month is done this way. A man day
usually runs 8 hours a day for five days a week which equals forty hours a week (8 hours a day * 5

take the forty hours a week and multiply that by four which will gives us one hundred and sixty hours

A Utopia Gone Astray By Aldous Huxley
In the technological age the World is in today, it is not hard to imagine a life built on the idea of total
perfection. As more innovations come about and humanity continues to technologically progress
toward a perfect world mankind is actually closing the gap between emotion and dystopia. A utopia
gone astray is displayed in Aldous Huxley s novel Brave New World. The technological advances
used to pursuit a flawless society ultimately cause the deterioration of human relationships. A utopian
society is a community that possess perfect qualities. In Brave New World the stride towards
perfection is aided by advanced technology. The World State has new innovations that allows people
to regularly extend human capabilities. Child Birth is no longer a natural event but instead is a
synthetic process in this futuristic world. Birth occurs outside of the women s womb and with

perfectly execute the duties of their specific categorization. Productivity is a major component of life

Beowulf And King Arthur Analysis
Beowulf versus King Arthur
Courage, perseverance, and honor are all traits of a hero. Beowulf and King Arthur both share many
qualities of a hero. The epic of Beowulf is about a great Geat that defeats the horrid Grendel of
Denmark. The story, Once and Future King, is about the great King Arthur and how he became king
and his reign in England. Beowulf is a fearless leader that defeats great monsters and deadly giants.
Later in his life he defeats Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. King Arthur was the outcast in his
family; he did not fit in as a child. As he grows older, his tutor Merlyn teaches him about different
values in life. King Arthur, formally known as Wart, becomes king when he pulls the famous sword
from the stone. Both Beowulf and King Arthur shared many traits that made them epic heros.
Courage is a trait shared by Beowulf and King Arthur or Wart . Beowulf showed courage through the
many battles he fought . Beowulf went to Heorot in hopes of defeating Grendel, the monster that had
been attacking Herot for the last twelve years. This was courageous because he knew that he could be
killed, but he fought anyway because that s what he needed to do. Wart showed courage when he
pulled the sword out of the stone. He did not want to be King of England, let alone at such a young
age. He wanted to put the sword back in the stone or let someone else become King. Wart was
courageous and became King because he knew that was his duty. These examples show that courage

Power And Control Issues
Within a person s life there are many instances of major change as well as power and control issues.
These impact on a person in many ways, however it is difficult to choose one instance and state that
due to that event I am now... this is because change occurs gradually and while we are impacted by
events an individual cannot state that all behaviours arose from the one event. The event may have
impacted the person in a significant way and the person s behaviour changed by these behaviours,
however, they were probably re enforced over time and so became their new behaviours (Griekspoor,

Similarities Between The Sacho Panza Syndrome And The...
The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now)
In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream fueled
exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World. Exploration and
colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and fame. The result of this
exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for new countries, but it came
with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often incredibly treacherous and sometimes
times even life threatening, however, the American dream never faded away. The American dream
today holds very similar to the American dream in the 15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500
years. These dreams are very alike, because they both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve
success in lands of opportunity, and although some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The
American dream today is a household concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or
she can make a better life for themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to
overcome adversity in attempt to better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream
vicariously through my father. My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia,
Italy. The Procaccino family stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to
success, but despite how hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money
out of the Procaccino household. John (my grandfather) yearned to become a doctor, but due to his
family s financial situation, John enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After completing his
duties, he earned an engineering degree and became a New York City engineer. John bore two sons
named Angelo and John II. Angelo was a naturally gifted child with tremendous brainpower, but John
was more of a rapscallion. With the guidance of Angelo, John realized that the best way to create
something with your life was to follow the American dream and work harder than anyone else. John II
became an incredible student and eventually went on to be a nationally

Professional Ethics and Values
Running head: PROFESSIONAL VALUES AND ETHICS
Professional Values and Ethics
University of Phoenix
Professional Values and Ethics
What is the difference between values and ethics? Values are rules by which people make decisions
about what is right versus wrong; good versus bad and what one should or should not do. The
definition of values according to Dictionary.com is the ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of a society
toward which the people of the group have an affective regard. These values may be positive, as
cleanliness, freedom, or education, or negative, as cruelty, crime, or blasphemy (The American
Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 2009). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society so many cases of people who have chosen to ignore ethics and values in the pursuit
of success or financial gain only end in their demise. A closer examination of professional values and
ethics in America certainly reveal that companies or organizations that adhere to a well defined set of
professional values and ethics will stand the test of time. Many of America s oldest and financially
sound companies are strong today because they followed a well defined code of business values and
ethics. Ford Motor Company is one example, Henry Ford believed so strongly in his company s code
of ethics that he doubled the pay of employs who complied with his code of conduct, which was based
upon his personal religious beliefs regular church attendance, no alcohol, no late hours, and no
frivolous spending. J.C. Penney is another company that is a prime example of a successful company
that was built on professional values and ethics. Penney took a stand against the unfair business
practices of his time; he developed a code of ethics which is considered one of the first general codes
for ethics in business. His business partners were required to pledge honesty, integrity, and moral
leadership; they were required to follow a code of ethics which can arguably be attributed to the
success of many American businesses.

Strategic Planning, Resource Allocation And Grant Funding
Everything in life, at some point carries a certain level of risk based on a decision or choice made to
meet a specific goal. Things taken for granted such as driving from one point to another or shopping at
your local grocery store carry certain risk. The variables that affect the level of risk range from low to
extreme. The issue with risk is there never is an absolute number of mitigating solutions that will
neutralize risk 100% of the time. If something was essentially risk free, there would be no room for
error or consequence. Unfortunately, the reality presented is not allowing for that level of perfection.
Risk is weighed by the level of threats presented versus the consequences from choices made, level of
vulnerability left to exploit from those threats and target acquisition and accessibility. This sounds
complex but by the very definition, risk is the amount of gain obtained while accepting certain
consequences that may pose a problem in success of a decision or choice. Strategic Planning,
Resource allocation and Grant Funding, etc are all building blocks of Risk Management in the
Homeland Security Enterprise. The Department of Homeland Security is a culmination of several
agencies that work separately but have one common goal. The principles that bind the agencies
together in the Homeland Security matriarch is unified in both agenda and response. It is a ladder for
progression in action and leadership as threats and vulnerabilities present themselves that allow

As televisions became more mainstream and affordable, more people invested in them. The time was

with at least one TV went from 88% to 96% (Ganzel). More people buying TVs meant that the

News programs in the 60s were a major selling point in buying a television. Part of television s
success is due to the news being so relevant and reliable. In the 50s and 60s, news on the television

In the stories The Interlopers and What of this Goldfish, Would you wish? , they show that it is
important to accept others that are different from yourself by proving that you need to know someone
before you judge them and comprehend someone s culture and background and who they are in order
to accept them. In each story, it is shown that it is very important to get all the information before you
can accept someone, even when they re from another country or even right down the street from you.
Collectively, both stories show sacrifice of ignorance and the gain of knowledge is a huge part of
acceptance. In the story The Interlopers , we find two men, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym,
who have held a grudge against one another over a plot of land and hated each other for years because
the other intevened with the land they wanted. The men didn t know much about the ... Show more

The men from The Interlopers didnt learn about one another before slapping the name of nemisis on
them, they just took the tiny obsticle that they had and the problem is what they hated, not eachother.
The feud might, perhaps, have died down or been compromised if the personal ill will of the two men
had not stood in the way; , meaning if the men had just not been so shut in and selfish, they could have
compromised something with the land, lived and could have ended up friends. In What of this
Goldfish, Would you wish? Yoni didnt let ignorance prevent him from getting information he wanted,
but since Sergei hated people knocking on his door, he didnt bother to learn the language. He didn t
dislike Yoni; he didn t even know the kid, but he didnt know what he was doing in his house, his
ignorance helped him get to the point of killing Yoni. If he just knew what he said and bothered to

Lou Reed The Velvet Underground
The New York rock band, The Velvet Underground became a vital chapter in musical history as they
emerged into the work in 1964. Initially the band achieved little critical recognition with the release of
four studio albums between their formation in 1964 and the bands departure in 1973. Today The
Velvet Underground are widely recognized as one of the most influential bands of our time as front
man, Lou Reed, originated the spirit that defines the punk rock genre through unconventional lyrics
that broke forbidden boundaries by poetically objectifying the darker side of New York City culture

  • 2. Discussion of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism Q2. Outline and discuss the four noble truths: is the Buddhist view of existence optimistic or pessimistic? The question of the Buddhist view of existence being optimistic or pessimistic is one which is many have an opinion on. It could be said that the four noble truths provide the views of the Buddha in the way that life is led and more importantly, should be led. Certainly, the end goal is clearly optimistic, the attainment of spiritual enlightenment, or nirvana. However, the Buddhist view of life as we lead it is often deemed pessimistic as it is so concerned with suffering. As there is more than one school of thought to, is the Buddhist view of existence of optimistic or pessimistic? our understanding of these truths is crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pleasure, prosperity, success and fame are short term gains. This is what the Buddha taught as the Second Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering Desire (Tanha). Again these could be considered a very pessimistic view of the human condition. Nothing has any permanent meaning, life s hard and then we die. Ignorance of the Buddha s teachings, might attribute all happiness and suffering to some external cause, believing that happiness and suffering come from the environment, or from the gods, and that everything that happens originates in some source outside of one s control. If one believes this, then it is extremely hard, if not impossible, to envisage eliminating suffering and its causes which is in itself an extremely pessimistic point of view. On the other hand, when a person accepts responsibility that experience of suffering is a product of what the self has done, that is, a result of personal karma, eliminating suffering becomes a real possibility. Buddhism believes that once awareness of suffering takes place, one can begin to remove the causes of suffering. This is the understanding of karma. Accepting responsibility for our own behaviour is an essential part of being able to change it, and a real source of optimism. The third noble truth is the cessation of suffering. Our cessation of suffering is something that we cannot depend on anyone else to help us with, because it is such a personal thing. The truth of universal origination means that if our ... • 3. Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on, evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums is the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more gender equality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be. According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are Fortune 500 CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold positions at the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014), ...although women make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent only 8 percent of the highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner are proof that there are still problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world, especially when the women are of a minority background. Fortunately, as will be discussed in this assignment, this gender gap is beginning to close as women are standing their ground and fighting for the positions and pay that they deserve. Asian American Actors In Modern Media Deal With Whitewashed Asian American actors in modern media deal with whitewashed film and television, underrepresentation in major works, and casting in stereotypical roles. These three problems are rooted in the history of Asian American actors in film and television, and have been perpetrated by stereotypes that continue to this day. The purpose of this memo is to examine the modern industry of film and television through the eyes of Asian American actors, viewing the stereotypes and stigmas these actors face, and looking forward to see what can be done by casting directors to reduce harmful stereotyping and increase diversity in film and television. As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in film and television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have come around in the 1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create resentment and tension within America s minority groups (Huh 13). The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that valued hard work, family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a positive stereotype that exemplifies the values of the American Dream; however, academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues that the model minority stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white Americans. In this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian musical, Flower Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority, centering the story around the benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with traditional ways. (Mok 193). One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors often donned yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh 21). These characteristics meant to capitalize on the race of the character: by changing his appearance to include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the play, racism definitely plays a huge role in the public s views and stereotypes of Othello. The reader must consider these other characters motivations for their words, however. The reader must also consider the drastic difference between the ways that we understand race today, versus how our ancestors saw race back in the sixteenth century, when the story takes place. Gregory Liberty University Abstract Education is important to all children, but teaching children with special needs entails the educator to examine and assess the social, behavior, intellectual and academic deficits of the student and devise an instructional plan that will support their excellence in these areas. Teaching in a classroom with children who have disabilities pertains to various teaching methods that insist the teacher individualize lessons to achieve academic excellence in students. Many inclusion classrooms have the necessary support which include services and accommodations to establish a learning environment conducive to the students learning abilities. Although the education system has become far more advanced than it was and children with disabilities have more access to supports and services, problems still remain like they still lag behind their non disabled peers in educational achievements, are often held to lower expectations, are less likely to take the full academic curriculum in high school and more likely to drop out (Aron, Loprest p. 97). But at the same time, design is constant. Often the past inspires the present. Even more, the ideas of what the future can hold can end up creating the future of design. These design ideas can be seen trickling into both the works of Vico Magistretti and James Dyson. Often it is said that no one creates anything new anymore. It is true that you can t reinvent the wheel, but it can certainly be seen that designs from the past often inspire the future of design. Designs by Vico Magistretti in the 20th century have similar aesthetics to the designs of James Dyson, a 21st century inventor, and designer. Designs of James Dyson show that the present is rooted in the past. Designs and products of Vico Magistretti show that simple designs are timeless. Designs and products of James Dyson show that basic design philosophies are often repeated through time. Vico Magistretti is best known not just as an industrial designer, but as an architect as well. It actually seems like a natural combination. Even Frank Lloyd Wright is known to have designed the entire living experience surrounding his architectural planning. • 10. Truman Capote s The Cold Blood Truman Capote s In Cold Blood is a stupendously written book, regularly acclaimed for it s unparalleled style. As needs be, readers mustn t look exceptionally far before they discover a surplus of rhetoric. Capote is regularly credited with having made the first crime novel, and he didn t get this praise by composing such as others. He utilized his fascinating composition style to make his readers feel as if they were really in the book, rather than preserving the barrier between the reader and the page. He permitted them to get inside the character s heads and truly know them, seeing flickers into the character s pasts while, likewise, foretelling events to come. He wrote with a very, for the time, eccentric style, but also one that ended up being incredibly powerful. Capote was genuinely a craftsman with his words. His utilization of imagery throughout makes the reader feel as if they are truly in Kansas, Nevada, Mexico or wherever else Capote put them. This is evident as Capote paints the image, Mountains. A hawk wheeling in a white sky. A dusty road winding into and out of a white and dusty village, (107) which permit the reader to feel like they, themselves, are in Mexico. Hester Prynne and her lover have too many problems in the result of the letter, with one, of course, being the vengeful pursuit of her husband, Roger Chillingworth. Hester s betrayal sparks Chillingworth s nature as the antagonists in the story, with his desire for revenge and his self inflicted moral deterioration. His keen attributes, combined with his madness, results in the novel s main idea of the consequences of sin. This leaves Old Chillingworth s as being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gives him the chance to interact with Hester on good terms, but that is quickly neutralized when his kindness was due to luring out the truth. His rise to fame in the town assigns him to the dimming Reverend, Arthur Dimmesdale. His villainy, in this case, enhances the plot by placing Dimmesdale right in the lion s den; leaving Chillingworth to be able to poke and prod at Dimmesdale conscience, a strategy that Dimmesdale did not notice. His torment of the already weak Reverend shows his twisted mentality and lack of human remorse, which eventually is the downfall of Arthur Dimmesdale and the doctor himself. Chillingworth s actions towards the Reverend is revealed when his true colors are exposed by the light given off of the meteor. Now his presence stands for the confirmation that he is an evil man and the continuation of torturing the Rev. though now it is going to be physical damage rather than his spiritual self. His descent into madness is characterized by his outward appearance that is noticeable by both Hester and the townspeople, At first his expression had been calm, meditative, scholar like. A Reflection Of My Education In The Landscape Architecture Presentations, Methods, and Media has truly been a gateway to what I believe to be the rest of my education in the Landscape Architecture program. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this class. It acts as the training wheels for our design, style, technique, and literacy in the field. If we didn t have a baseline built by this class I personally, as well as many of my peers would quite honestly be lost. I came into the class thinking I had a great baseline knowledge of plans and much of what went into the design process of a landscape; I was wrong. The first thing I thought upon seeing the name Presentations, Methods, and Media was that I would be in a lecture style class learning about how landscapes had been done over the years, yet again I was wrong. The first thing Taze, a then quite intimidating individual, handed us was a pop quiz on patterns easy enough, or so I thought. After about two patterns, I realized I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, nor what half of the patterns meant. The whole class failing the quiz didn t start my first impression of the class off well, but I was reassured by Taze each and everyone would soon be masters of the then daunting patterns. We practiced for days upon days until the strokes slowly became memory. We worked in and out of class to better our skills at the same patterns over and over again, to the point I thought we wouldn t do anything else, I was wrong about that one too. One of many reasons rock and roll grew to be so infectious is because of its acceptance of all people no matter their race, gender, style, etc. This genre has several sub genres that have branched off from the original rock and roll style, all of which contributed to making rock and roll so contagious. b. Due to Elvis being so successful in his career, the issue of several songs recorded by him, originally being written by black artists, arises and irritates people of the African American race. It is prejudiced that this white God is forever remembered as one of the biggest stars in history when his success was partly based off of black artists who continue to be unrecognized. It is fair to say that several white artists are better known for their success over black artists. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys should have become attached to the mother associated with food and offering drive reduction. In fact, the monkeys spent most time with the cloth covered mother and would cling to it especially when they were frightened. These studies suggest that cupboard love is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though we must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to generalise the findings to human behaviour. Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of attachments in 60 infants who came largely from working class homes in Glasgow. As more innovations come about and humanity continues to technologically progress toward a perfect world mankind is actually closing the gap between emotion and dystopia. A utopia gone astray is displayed in Aldous Huxley s novel Brave New World. The technological advances used to pursuit a flawless society ultimately cause the deterioration of human relationships. • 33. Beowulf And King Arthur Analysis Beowulf versus King Arthur Courage, perseverance, and honor are all traits of a hero. Beowulf and King Arthur both share many qualities of a hero. The epic of Beowulf is about a great Geat that defeats the horrid Grendel of Denmark. The story, Once and Future King, is about the great King Arthur and how he became king and his reign in England. Beowulf is a fearless leader that defeats great monsters and deadly giants. Later in his life he defeats Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. King Arthur was the outcast in his family; he did not fit in as a child. As he grows older, his tutor Merlyn teaches him about different values in life. King Arthur, formally known as Wart, becomes king when he pulls the famous sword from the stone. Both Beowulf and King Arthur shared many traits that made them epic heros. Courage is a trait shared by Beowulf and King Arthur or Wart . Beowulf showed courage through the many battles he fought . Beowulf went to Heorot in hopes of defeating Grendel, the monster that had been attacking Herot for the last twelve years. This was courageous because he knew that he could be killed, but he fought anyway because that s what he needed to do. Wart showed courage when he pulled the sword out of the stone. He did not want to be King of England, let alone at such a young age. He wanted to put the sword back in the stone or let someone else become King. Wart was courageous and became King because he knew that was his duty. These examples show that courage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Similarities Between The Sacho Panza Syndrome And The... The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now) In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream fueled exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World. Exploration and colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and fame. The result of this exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for new countries, but it came with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often incredibly treacherous and sometimes times even life threatening, however, the American dream never faded away. The American dream today holds very similar to the American dream in the 15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500 years. These dreams are very alike, because they both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve success in lands of opportunity, and although some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The American dream today is a household concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or she can make a better life for themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to overcome adversity in attempt to better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream vicariously through my father. My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia, Italy. The Procaccino family stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to success, but despite how hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money out of the Procaccino household. John (my grandfather) yearned to become a doctor, but due to his family s financial situation, John enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After completing his duties, he earned an engineering degree and became a New York City engineer. John bore two sons named Angelo and John II. Angelo was a naturally gifted child with tremendous brainpower, but John was more of a rapscallion. With the guidance of Angelo, John realized that the best way to create something with your life was to follow the American dream and work harder than anyone else. John II became an incredible student and eventually went on to be a nationally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A closer examination of professional values and ethics in America certainly reveal that companies or organizations that adhere to a well defined set of professional values and ethics will stand the test of time. Many of America s oldest and financially sound companies are strong today because they followed a well defined code of business values and ethics. Ford Motor Company is one example, Henry Ford believed so strongly in his company s code of ethics that he doubled the pay of employs who complied with his code of conduct, which was based upon his personal religious beliefs regular church attendance, no alcohol, no late hours, and no frivolous spending. J.C. Penney is another company that is a prime example of a successful company that was built on professional values and ethics. Penney took a stand against the unfair business practices of his time; he developed a code of ethics which is considered one of the first general codes for ethics in business. • 39. Strategic Planning, Resource Allocation And Grant Funding Everything in life, at some point carries a certain level of risk based on a decision or choice made to meet a specific goal. Things taken for granted such as driving from one point to another or shopping at your local grocery store carry certain risk. The variables that affect the level of risk range from low to extreme. The issue with risk is there never is an absolute number of mitigating solutions that will neutralize risk 100% of the time. If something was essentially risk free, there would be no room for error or consequence. Unfortunately, the reality presented is not allowing for that level of perfection. Risk is weighed by the level of threats presented versus the consequences from choices made, level of vulnerability left to exploit from those threats and target acquisition and accessibility. This sounds complex but by the very definition, risk is the amount of gain obtained while accepting certain consequences that may pose a problem in success of a decision or choice. Strategic Planning, Resource allocation and Grant Funding, etc are all building blocks of Risk Management in the Homeland Security Enterprise. The Department of Homeland Security is a culmination of several agencies that work separately but have one common goal.
