Question 1
Read the attached HTC case: Peter Chou and Cher Wang want to make HTC into the leading smart
phone company in the world. What kind of strategic actions are needed to achieve this goal?

Introduction
HTC start up as a professional original engineering manufacture company (OEM) for PDA and other
computer parts in 1999. While it changes its core business from PDA to smart phones, it discovered an
opportunity of developing its own brand. In 2007, it brands itself into HTC while introducing the
TOUCH series. This paper discusses the theory of global strategy for individual organizations and the
necessary strategic actions for HTC in order to transfer itself into a leading smart phone company in

The chief product officer is responsible for global product development. These officers will be
working closely with the marketing director of HTC.
Branding development should always go together with the vision of the company, it was pointed out
by Chou; CEO of HTC that HTC will not blindly go for growth, and instead, it would rather
deliberately focus on the value . A lot of time when a company is deliberately pursuing its growth,
they lose its core values. Chou recognizes the importance of the economies of scale, but he would
rather deliberately pursue the value that HTC can pursuit to its consumers. In other words, regardless
of the business model, or brand of HTC; HTC focuses on creating their own core values. HTC is not
entirely focusing on the value of technology or products; it also includes the value for innovation,
brand, market, and management ability. HTC is no longer solely represented by a product, but to
expand competitiveness in it s over all capacities.
Achieve greater economies of scale.
The decision whether to take faster, more aggressive brand promotion approach to heighten brand
awareness was closely tied to another issue; find ways to achieve greater economies of scale. In a
HTC sponsored survey, it shows that 80% of the customers would like to buy phones for less than 200
dollars. HTC believe they don t have the necessary scale to drive the cost reduction. This is because
HTC lacked significant intellectual property right

Revolutionary War
Revolutionary War

ENG/101
October 26, 2014
The battle of Trenton and Princeton began to erupt in the same year of the Revolutionary War. The
Revolutionary War had started because the Americans wanted the same rights the as the British
citizens had. The British refused to give Americans the same rights because they (British) didn t think
the Americans shouldn t be represented as a part of the British Parliament, instead their (British)
minds were more focused on building revenue. The British had ignored the Americans demands in
which the British thought the Americans demands were a cause of outrage. There were so many

George Washington knew that his men had exceeded their expectations with the battle on Trenton and
that they had more challenges to face. George Washington knew that doing nothing would be
dangerous so he turned his focus to planning another attack at Princeton. George Washington was
convinced that his men couldn t hold Trenton against British. George Washington had learned about
General Charles and James Grant with the eight hundred British Troops marching south from
Princeton. George Washington had deployed five hundred men who he had assigned to watch
campfires and the rest of the troops marched to Princeton. During the battle on Princeton the first
secretary of the US Treasury, Alexander Hamilton had cannons fired at the British because he had
applied to Princeton, in which he was not accepted. George Washington had sent in a force who was
under General Hugh Mercer to destroy a bridge. General Hugh Mercers men were killed. There was a
rally by the Americans. George Washington gave hope to others that they could also beat the British.
After the Battles of Trenton and Princeton the Americans quickly withdrew after taking prisoners,

Washington wanted to take his men to New Brunswick, but was overruled by his officers. George

Difference Between Apple Watch Vs Samsung
Apple Watch Vs Samsung Gear S2 The ultimate comparison
Wearable technology has grown in impetus with the introduction of smart watches by Apple and
Samsung.
They promise great new features and high end performance which are met with stylish designs and
comfortable wearing.
Samsung, the big name in the industry is battling out for victory against the smart elegance of Apple
which only releases the most comprehensive products.
The big debate rose because of their similar launch dates and people have grown great interest on the
products. So, let us compare the two smart watches released by these techno giants and elicit a
conclusion.

Whereas, the price of Gear S2 is $299, with a slight increase of price according to the versions but it
never exceeds the base price of Apple. Thus, Samsung is comfortable for the hand and the pocket as
well.
Winner: Samsung Gear S2
Loser: Apple watch
Verdict
There is not much to differentiate between the two watches and it a difficult choice to make when one
has to select from them. Apple provides great variety through multiple straps and casings; whereas
Samsung offers reliability through battery life and comfort.
In such cases, people prefer the better brand which is Apple. But this should be done when money is
not an issue and charging daily is not a problem.
Samsung Gear S2 is a serious competitor with great affordability and style which is backed up by a
great battery. Although the performance is same for the two smart watches Gear S2 is the better choice
because of many advantages it has, which are elaborated above.
However, do remember that the margin between the two smart watches is very thin and the developers
should be credited for the wonderful job they have done to bring such excellent technology to the
market.
Winner: Samsung Gear

Rhetorical Analysis Of All Men Are Created Equal
What does it mean All Men Are Created Equal it must be difficult for President Lincoln to explain this
idea to his audience after the Civil War had just come to an end, while there is still a little conflict
between both sides. To begin with, the American idea is that all men are created equal and Lincoln
during his speech he is trying to convince his audience that All Men Are Created Equal. Adding on, to
do so, Lincoln wants to dedicate a portion of the land, as to honor all of the brave men who have given
their lives on the Battlefield. Furthermore, Lincoln wants his audience to put this war to rest and then
prepare for a greater task that lies ahead of them in the future, here are a few examples of what
Lincoln had said to his audience.

Media Portrayal Of Islam Essay
The Media Portrayal of Islam
Islam is portrayed and is commonly accepted as the most violent and largest direct threat to the West.
This is a generalization made by most of the West, but it is not particularly the West or the Islamic
people s fault. There is constant turmoil in Islamic countries in the Middle East and these conflicts are
what make the news in the West. The only representation in the media that the Islamic nation gets is
that of war. Though most Islamic people are not violent, the select few that do participate in terrorist
groups give the rest of the Islam nation a bad image.
The news today has to do with what people want to hear, not particularly what is worth while or even
accurate. In the Daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The press has presented Islam within a certain emotional frame, and it has made the violence in the
Middle East seem like the main interaction between the West and Middle East.
Ever since the bombing of the World Trade Center on February 1993 the United States of America has
stepped up its commitment to stopping terrorism. The general public after the bombing also took a
new view on Islam, a negative one. The February 7 arrest of Ramzi Yousef made the world open its
eyes to Islamic terrorists. The FBI is even involved in terrorist investigations and it does not help the
image of the Islamic people that most wanted man by the United States of America is Usama Bin
Laden, a Saudi Arabian. He is the leader of the terrorist organization known as Al Qaeda, which is one
of the most active terrorist groups. His central issue is the United States presence in the Arabian
Peninsula and the military presence in his former homeland Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden made a
declaration in February 1999 in the name of his International Islamic Front for Jihad against Jews and
Crusaders. He stated that to kill Americans and their allies, both civil and military, is an individual
duty of every Muslim who is able, in any country where this is possible. These kinds of statements are
immediately taken by the Western media and given to the public. The public of course reacts with
anger and creates a bias against

The Rock Towers On Her Property
Like the defendant in Moore, Herrera is entitled to summary judgment as a matter of law in this
action, because she could not have known or realized that the rock towers on her property would pose
an unreasonable risk of death or serious bodily injury to Maria. Herrera s private property is located in
a remote location in Arizona where she allows adults to view her land art by appointment only. It is
reasonably understandable that Herrera does not like uninvited or unwanted individuals on her
property at anytime. Moreover, since the land art was for adults only to view, she never allowed
children on her property to view her land art. As a result, no injuries were ever reported from the
adults who visited and viewed her land art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, however, this argument ignores the fact that Herrera fulfilled her duty as a landowner to not
willfully or wantonly injure a trespasser, such as Maria. To the contrary, Herrera took appropriate
measures to ensure the safely of adults and children by enforcing restrictions to safeguard her guest
and the land art on her property.
Therefore, Herrera is entitled to summary judgment because she could not have known or realized that
the rock towers on her property would pose an unreasonable risk of death or serious bodily injury to
Maria.
II. HERRERA S MOTION FOR SUMMARY JUDGEMENT SHOULD BE GRANTED BECAUSE

Everyone Needs A Little H2o
Everyone Needs a Little H2O Ever since the beginning of time water has been important. Water has
been important because it is one of the most abundant substance on Earth. Water is important because
every living thing contains water, and every living thing must have water to function. Water is
important whether it is e drunk a supper or if it is being used for survival in the desert. Water is
important because it is required for man to live, breath and thrive on this planet. In the article, How
Much Water Do We Actually Need, J. Lunn and R. Foxen state, Water is an essential requirement for

Prehydration 2. Hydration 3. Dehydration 4. Rehydration (Okanovic et al. 69). These four phases
indicate when the athlete should hydrate. Prehydration and hydration are similar because both refer to
hydrating before competition. While prehydration refers to hydrating a few days before a competition,
hydration refers to hydrating throughout the day of the competition (Okanovic et al. 69 70).
Dehydration is the loss of water from the body. While Prehydration and hydration have to do with
hydrating prior to competition, rehydration is rehydrating the body after a competition (Okanovic et
al. 70). Dehydration is a serious condition and should not be taken lightly While the body not having
enough water is a big issue for athletes, too much water can also be a problem. In the article, How
Much Water Do We Actually Need, it states, If an individual consumes too much water, this can lead
to water intoxication with potentially life threatening hyponatraemia (Lunn and Foxen 336 337).
While an athlete should be careful on over consuming water, an athlete also needs to consume enough
water to last throughout a competition. Laura Purcell in her article, Sports Nutrition for Young
Athletes, Laura Purcell states, Before activity, athletes should consume 400ml to 600ml of cold water
2 h to 3 h before their event (Purcell). While four hundred to six hundred milliliters may not seem like

Jacob Breaks the Bar Essay
1) My client, Jacob, is a 22 year old senior in college, and desires to deadlift with proper form. His
overall goal is to gain muscle mass on a semi ectomorph body frame. His knowledge and experience
with the deadlift movement is nominal. He wants to increase the weight he lifts, but under an initial
consultation, I noticed that his initial movement, breaking the weight from the floor, was inadequate to
improve his performance goal. Jacob admitted his novice status in the use of free weights for mass

2) Cecchini, González, Méndez Giménez, and Fernández Río (2011) defined mastery goals as
focusing on development and demonstration of competence via personal improvement and learning. In
contrast, performance goals focused on the demonstration or proving of competence levels relative to
other lifters. Darnon (2007) further explained that under mastery goals, attention is allocated to the
resolution of the task. Researchers have shown that mastery goals favor a deep processing of the task,
while performance goals share attention between the task and concern about performance outcomes.
Holmberg, Crantz, and Michaelson (2012) conducted a study to determine if deadlift training could
treat low back pain. In the beginning of the intervention, the subjects had to learn a correct lifting
technique, with low intensity and adequate rest periods, all under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
Progression was ensured by increasing the intensity or adding repetitions or a combination of both.
Results found that the subjects with discogenic LBP showed positive response to deadlift training
regarding pain intensity and functional status. The relevance to the implementation for Jacob s plan
will be in learning the correct lifting technique, albeit the progression should be steeper. For the break,
mastery goals will be used in stages and some of the goals will be based on kinematics. Jacob s first
goal will be to determine optimal grip

Impact Of Capital Market On Economic Growth
The Capital market in any country is one of the major pillars of long term economic growth and
development. The market serves a broad range of clientele, including different levels of government,
corporate bodies and individuals within and outside the country. Capital formation entails accumulated
savings out of the current incomes of either organization or individual. It is investment in fixed assets
which in part is financed with monies raised through the capital market (Al Faki, 2006). The Capital
market has been one of the major means through which foreign funds are injected into most
economies and the tendency towards a global economy is more visible there than anywhere else. It is
therefore, quite valid to state that the growth of the capital market has become one of the barometers
for measuring the overall economic growth of a nation (Emenuga, 1998).
The theoretical framework on the effects of capital market on economic growth dates back to the work
of Schumpeter, (1911) which explained that a well developed financial system can facilitate
technological innovation and economic growth through the provision of financial services and
resources to investors. The above argument of Schumpeter, (1911) was later advanced as the
McKinnon Shaw, (1973) hypothesis, which is a policy analysis tool for developing countries with
strong recommendation and high priority on the efficiency of financial systems in facilitating capital
accumulation and financial intermediation.

1. Corporate malfeasance is defined as deceptive and/or fraudulent activities carried out by corporate
officers. Usually the CEO is held responsible for corporate problems, but a firm s board is essential to
preventing malfeasance and ensuring that management acts with integrity. I would describe some of
Messier s actions as corporate malfeasance. For example, Messier repurchased a significant amount of
Vivendi Universal s stock (i.e., 6.4 billion Euros from 2001 2002) to fund employee stock option
grants. Because Messier was so focused on the firm s stock, his focus was not on the firm s financial
stability nor did he make the best use of excess cash. Further, the accounting rules used were

Messier was dedicated to Americanizing the firm, taking away from its French heritage. When
Messier decided to sell off Vivendi Environment, the parent company s most profitable business, to
finance a deal with USA Networks he continued to transform the firm into a media first business
neglecting the firm s water supply roots. Now the parent company was left with debt and many
overvalued assets. Vivendi Universal would eventually have to write down significant amounts due to
excessive goodwill estimates from acquisitions. Messier was stubborn. He declared that these loses
were not reflective of the company s sound operations and tried to blame Lescure, the decision maker
for Canal Plus, for the parent company s business failure, deeming Canal Plus as a tumor for Vivendi
Universal. All in all, Messier was adamant in keeping to the story that his firm was in good financial
position, and, because he had the support of board members (who he had initially appointed), others
believed this story as well. His persistence in growing the business fogged his perception of reality he
was managing a failing business. It is clear that Messier did a poor job as CEO.
3. Messier was a victim of bad timing, however, his failure as a CEO should not only be attributed to
poor timing. Yes, the dot.com bubble burst during his tenure, which may have caused him to over
value some acquired firms. Other issues

Essay on Healthcare for Illegal Aliens
Everyday people are sent to the hospital. Not only are they in fear of losing their life but also in fear of

to keep them healthy (Karvounis, 2007). Care for undocumented immigrants represents a tiny fraction
of the nation s health care burden. They receive minimal care; some pay taxes. Between one half and
three quarters of undocumented immigrants pay taxes and some work off the books jobs as well (What

¨The biggest increase in dog bites came from dogs that were owned but not on a leash¨,(Victor,

when a dog senses something they will take off. If you own a dog that is aggressive then to try and

Parkinson s Disease
Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of
nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life
activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun
and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it
refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions
between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the
risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that
makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The
effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that
the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These
combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will
ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that
influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences
of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be
difficult. Growing up I had an uncle who had Parkinson disease. He got this from

Nitrogen Oxides Research Paper
What are nitrogen oxides?
Nitrogen oxides are a group of gases that are composed of nitrogen and oxygen. Two of the most
common nitrogen oxides are nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide. The chemical formula for nitric oxide
is NO; for nitrogen dioxide, it is NO2. Nitrous oxide, N2O, is a greenhouse gas that contributes to
climate change.
Nitric oxide is a gas with a sharp, sweet smell; it is colorless to brown at room temperature. Nitrogen
dioxide is a colorless to brown liquid at room temperature, with a strong, harsh odor. It becomes a
reddish brown gas at temperatures above 70 degrees F.
Nitrogen oxides are released into the air from motor vehicle exhaust or the burning of coal, oil, diesel
fuel, and natural gas, especially from electric power plants. They are also released during industrial
processes such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with precipitation, oxygen, and other substances in the
atmosphere to form acid rain.
Nitric oxide is used to bleach rayon and produce nitric acid. Nitrogen dioxide is used to produce
rocket fuels, explosives, and other chemicals. Nitrogen dioxide is sometimes used to bleach flour.
How might I be exposed to nitrogen oxides?
Nitrogen oxides are common pollutants found in most of the air in the United States. You can be
exposed to nitrogen oxides outdoors by breathing air that contains it, especially if you live near a coal
burning electric power plant or areas with heavy motor vehicle traffic. You can be exposed to higher
levels if air pollution and smog levels are high.
You can be exposed at home if you burn wood or use a kerosene heater or gas stove.
You can be exposed at home or at work, indoors or outdoors, through smoking cigarettes or breathing
second hand cigarette smoke.
You can be exposed at work if you work in a facility that produces nitric acid, explosives such as
dynamite and TNT, or welded

Sextus Perceptions Of Animals
Empiricus states that animals view objects differently based on the way they perceive them. The
obvious differences between species indicate there is a difference in the way an object can make
different impressions to humans and nonhumans. It is said that people with jaundice would see objects
with a yellow tint, that those with normal eyesight would see in white. And also that a person with
bloodshot eyes would see objects with a red tint. He further states that animals like and dislike
difference things. Most dogs will enjoy a swim in a lake, whereas a cat would very much not enjoy
that adventure. Likewise, the arctic wolf would most likely not enjoy a Florida vacation nor would an
alligator probably enjoy a Minnesota winter. The lake is the same exact physical place, but a dog
would see a place he really wanted to go as a cat may sniff at it, but turn right around. This is all based
on an animals preferences and dislikes. We can t judge from our own perceptions what another animal
perceives of it s surroundings. All animals are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although not a scientist, I know that a person with jaundice or bloodshot eyes doesn t actually see
objects as yellow or red. Sextus talks of those animals with hair in their ears would hear things such as
if we would if we covered ours. We also know this to be untrue. Cats and dogs, with hair in their ears,
hear much better than humans, that have no ear hair in comparison. He also states the food we eat
becomes our bones, veins, arteries, etc. This is also not factual information. The science of these
claims seem false and cause me to not trust the rest of his opinions. Granted he did not know these
scientific truths when he wrote this. Using these examples to say we cannot adjudicate how animals
perceive objects doesn t come

March Madness is one of my favorite times of year! It would be an honor to cover March Madness!
Where are you from? Can you cover the Euroleague, International Leagues, and other foreign
basketball activities frequently?
I m from Connecticut, and I don t normally watch International leagues (except for the olympics), so
this could be a challenge.
Do you show bias towards playoff bound teams? Meaning can you cover low class teams such as the
Charlotte Bobcats?
Well like I said, I m a huge Heat fan and I love to debate so I wouldn t turn my back against them.
But, I can cover low class teams. In fact, I think the Bobcats have a lot of raw young talent. They have

Showe In America
are up to four lanes in either direction.
Waiters asking you if everything is ok
Is everything ok? is a standard service question in most restaurants. It is necessary to reinforce good
customer service standards, but in America, it s becoming the bugbear of diners. Call it fear of legal
action in case everything is not ok, the practice has become quite annoying. Many feel it s overrated
since waiters hardly give them time to actually enjoy the meal and service anyway!
Besides the obvious annoyance, many customers feel that if the question is asked too often, chances
are, something is really not quite ok. Sometimes waiters forget tables they have already served, but
customers prefer a greater balance of concern, a measure of privacy. They also want more time to
enjoy the total experience.

Matsuo Basho Essay
I decided to choose Matsuo Basho and Kobayashi poetry for the early modern age period. I chose
Masoka Shiki poetry for the modern age period. The early modern age poems I chose were heavily
based on nature and human interaction with the use of some nature. The modern age poems I chose
both by Shiki there was a shift from the early modern age because of the different influences and of
course time period. However, all of the poems I still could connect to whether it was about nature, real
life human interaction, and experiences.
Basho and Issa poetry is a part of the early modern age period. At this time Japan was going through a
period of isolation and was living in feudalistic system. Basho was able to exemplary given the
cultural influences during this period because he expressed everyday life. He was able to express
everyday life in a tone that could be reciprocated. The dominant themes ... Show more content on

However, both Issa and Basho seem to create works based on their observations where you notice the
imagery. Issa says, Snow starts melting , the reader can visualize the snow. During Issa s journey he
notices that as the snow melts the village is crowded with children which gives me the impression of
his recognition of the behavior of human and in the poem I chose, the children.
Masaoka Shiki s dominant theme was expressing modern life and its complexities. The time period of
social development and western culture where he wrote on reform. Shiki says, I keep on working, and
keep on working but life still continues to have its struggles though working his supposed to aid a
better life. This represents the complexities during this time period.
Though there is a difference in time periods, the themes intertwine in some way; though the influences
of the poets work may differ. As I read all of the poems I chose, I still feel some kind of relationship
because the themes in both the early modern age and the modern age are

Soren Kierkegaard Despair
Despair is an all encompassing state that manifests as a sickness of the spirit and of the self. Soren
Kierkegaard remarks that despair is a sickness of the spirit, of the self, and accordingly can take three
forms: in despair not to be conscious of having self (not despair in the strict sense); in despair not to
will to be oneself; in despair to will to be oneself. 1 It seems that this all encompassing state of despair
is inescapable, or is it? Kierkegaard believed that despair was sin and that this sin was a sickness unto
death, a death of hope, a spiritual death. Wesleyanism intersects Kierkegaard s freedom from despair
with Christian perfection, the antithesis of despair. The hope of the Gospel is encompassed in the
promise of entire sanctification; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kierkegaard views the freedom from despair as no despair at all but the self resting transparently on
the power of that established it. This is for Kierkegaard the very definition of faith. In the same way,
Wesleyanism views Christian perfection as the submission of the self to the leading of Holy Spirit in
the ongoing process of sanctification to the end of a turning from self to love of God and neighbor.
While the language is different, Kierkegaard s Christian psychology fleshes out the problem of sin and
its effect on the self to the end that it aids Wesleyan theology in engaging the freedom from the despair
caused by sin through the avenue of the biblical promise of Christian perfection. Complementary to
Kierkegaard, Christian perfection provides a practical means for the self to rest transparently on God.
It is only through complete submission to the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the
believer that one comes to know what it means to be free from the condemnation of sin and alive
through the Spirit of life given free through faith in Christ

357). Factors that add to employee dissatisfaction include: company policy and administration,
supervision, salary, interpersonal relations, and working conditions (Starling, 2011, p. 357).
According to this theory, simply eliminating job dissatisfiers is not enough, what truly motivates
employees more effectively are job satisfiers. In order to motivate employees, managers should lessen
the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in this case,
the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and administration.
Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the human resources
director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by focusing more on
increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and responsibility.
Following the idea of satisfaction in the workplace, even though the city has the ability to implement
whichever policy it prefers regardless of the employees thoughts that does not imply that the city
should take this route. Employees are motivated when management includes them in the decision
making process. According to the human relations approach, workers are more motivated and satisfied
when there are positive relations between management and workers (Starling, 2011). By simply
imposing their will upon the employees

The Story is split into two different parts, timing and cultural legacies. For part one, the example that
was clearly reliant on timing was birth year. Gladwell is talking about the age of technology and the
men that help form that when he states, The perfect age to be in 1975, in other words, and is old
enough to be a part of a revolution but not so old that you missed it (Gladwell 65). To further expand
his quote, the ideal years to be born in were 1953 56. He goes on to support his intellectual find with
strong evidence stating that men such as Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Ballmer, Steve Jobs, and Eric
Schmidt had been born in those years. All of these men are notoriously said to be the fathers of the
technological age. Without the births of these brilliant men, it might have been impossible to type this
paper. Diving into part two of Outliers, Gladwell focuses strictly on cultural legacies. He provides
various example of how some kids are merely just fortune children and others just have lucky cultural
and ethnic backgrounds that help provide their success. While some children are just successful
because their damn parents hit the Powerball, the significant amount of other are persistent at what
they do I order to build their success, not have it given to them. Malcolm Gladwell splits this main

the world is very different and you could be very into family or not really at all, it all depends on how
you were raised and what you believe in. Some of the ways that they portrayed family seemed a bit
unrealistic. They do not have a in between when it comes to family. It is either a picture perfect family

very hard to hide the fact that they had a broken family, and I feel like in society it is the same way.
Many people try to hide that they have a broken family because they are embarrassed or don t want
people to think differently of them. This show does not show any evidence of the mean world
syndrome. In some cases the characters did show signs of having evil intentions but at the end of the
episode they all came to their sense at the end of the episode and realized in the long run that these are

Dreamers Argument Essay
The term Dreamers depicts a new set of immigrants in the United States. Dreamers are immigrant
children who were brought illegally to the United States. The argument revolving around Dreamers is
a controversial debate because the rule of law has clearly been broken, however by the actions of
adults. Therefore, should children who were brought here through no fault of their own, be penalized

The United States continues to be a magnet for many people around the world because of the
opportunities that are seen within this country. There are legal ways in which many people around the

Snakes of Time in Dante s Hell Essay
Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit (Romans 3:13). Snakes have been a
universal symbol of fraud in literature since The Fall, when God transformed Satan into a beguiling
snake and [c]ursed Satan to slide on [his] belly for all eternity for his deception (Alter 41). Dante uses
snakes in his epic poem, the Inferno, to tie the fraudulent nature of thieves to their punishment in the
seventh bolgia of the eighth circle of Hell. Snakes have metaphorically slithered through time and
shed, taking on new appearances as deceivers in society. In 2005, they revealed a new face, Olatunji

the paperwork he had just received in terror and was taken to the Los Angeles Country Superior Court,
where he received an appropriate punishment of ten years in prison under charges of identity theft (O
Harrow, Mimoso). Similarly, Dante s Inferno forces the naked and terrified thieves to run from
venomous snakes with their hands behind their backs, without a hope of hiding (Alighieri 251). The
thieves who once were concealing themselves are now exposed. Moreover, with Oluwatosin s
numerous stolen identities, his crimes resemble the chelydri and jaculi, phareans, cenchres, and head
tailed amphisbenes of Libya (251). Oluwatosin assumed these identities to camouflage himself, much
as snakes do in their environment. However, once apprehended, both the thieves of Dante s fourteenth
century Italy and today s society must endure punishment. As the United States court system
sentenced Oluwatosin to ten years in prison, Dante Alighieri arranges a more extreme punishment,
where snakes thrust between the legs of sinners and form a knot in the groin (253). This punishment
illustrates the idea of contrapasso, or a fitting punishment. Oluwatosin s life of crime tied a knot of
confinement since his former self could never be restored and his rights were limited in prison.

A noteworthy concern is ice accretion and shedding, which has negatively affected both aircraft and
rotorcraft for many decades. The goal of the de icing project is to advance the safe operation of
helicopters and other rotary wing vehicles while flying in such conditions. This is in accordance with
NASA s goal to further develop rotorcraft technology to create a safer form of transportation.
Research is being conducted at the NASA Glenn Icing Research Tunnel to help achieve this goal.
While a majority of the published research and theory about rotorcraft icing was performed between
the late 1980s and today, more research still needs to be conducted to fully understand the effects of
icing on rotorcraft. Currently, there are only a few indoor facilities capable of performing icing tests
such as the NASA Glenn Icing Research Tunnel and the AERTS facility at Penn State. Attempts at
analytically modeling ice accretion and shedding events have been performed successfully for fixed
wing aircraft, but there is still a need for development and validation of prediction tools for ice
shedding off of rotorcraft blades. There is currently no reliable methods to accurately determine the
size and shape of shed ice from photos or videos of experiments, along with the ability to accurately

Technical Writing Vs Technical Communication
In today s highly technologically oriented world, people have begun to communicate in innovative
ways, which include, inter alia, telephones, cell telephones, smartphones, handheld electronic devices,
tablets, email, video conferencing, instant messaging or text messaging. With the advent of the
information revolution at the turn of the century, the concept of professional communication has been
repeatedly redefined to accommodate the contemporary trends, methods and changes that
communication in the corporate world has witnessed. Many of the theories in professional
communication are derived from traditional communication, technical writing, rhetorical theory and
ethics. According to Julia Wood (2004), communication is a systemic process in which individuals
interact with and through symbols to create and interpret meanings.
A technical communicator is responsible for writing documents, designing and creating graphics,
designing and creating websites, copyediting other documents, examining documents for usability,
illustrations, and much more. Technical writing is now known as technical communications because a
technical writer does so much more than just write. Technical writing is a specialized form of
exposition: that is, written communication done on the job, especially in fields with specialized
vocabularies, such as science, engineering, technology, and the health sciences. The biggest difference
between technical communication and the other kinds of writing you

Professional Athletes Should Be Allowed At The Olympic Games
With the multi billions of dollars that the Olympics earn and spend, it s certainly is in the best interest
of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remain under the circumstances of keeping sport
open to professional athletes, not only financially, but as well as the majority of their viewers. In this
position statement, I will use historic International Olympic Committee guidelines (1964) and official
IOC reports as a basis for proving that professional athletes should be allowed to participate in the
Olympic Games.
To successfully understand what differentiates a professional athlete from an amateur athlete, and the
issues that arise from it, we must understand how the International Olympic Committee defines a
professional and amateur athlete. According to the Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic
Committee published in 1964,
a person was only eligible to participate in the Olympic games if they were an advocate for sport,
without material gain of any kind. He does not qualify:
a) If he has not a basic occupation designed to insure his insure his present and future livelihood;
b) If he receives or has received remuneration for participation in sport ;
c) If he does not comply with the Rules of the International Federation concerned, and the official
interpretations of this Rule number 26 . (Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic
Committee,1964. p. 5)
If the Olympics were restricted to only amateur athletes, the my country is better

Analysis Of The Texas Legislature
The first Texas Legislature met in 1846 and has only had a few changes. It is a bicameral legislature
that has two chambers which include the Texas Senate, with 31 senators and the House of
Representatives, with 151 House members. The responsibility of the legislators includes promoting
their constituent s concerns and issues by addressing them during the sessions.
The Texas Legislature meets once every two years regular sessions of 140 days. However, there are
times when it is necessary for the governor to call special sessions that are limited to 30 days of which
he sets the agenda. There is not a limit to the number of special sessions that can be called. These
special sessions are exercised to complete items that were not taken care of ... Show more content on

Former governor Rick Perry once said When you have a full time legislature, they just feel pretty
inclined to be doing something. So they are going to dream up new laws, new regulations and new
statutes and generally all of those cost money. (Champagne) Government does not need to be involved
in everything, but it is necessary to try and keep order and to protect the citizens. An additional
argument against a full time legislation is the belief that it would increase corruption due to the fact
that the legislators would have more time together to deliberate and give in to the temptation of
unethical practices. (Champagne 217) My opinion is that a full time legislature would offer more time
and money for the job to be completed thoroughly. Instead of scheming, they would be able to
research and discuss the bills as they are being submitted. It seems that corruption is caused for two
reasons. The first being that currently there is simply not enough time to tackle all the issues, so when
one is approached with being persuaded to support a certain bill, they act on it when they might not
have even known that it existed. Secondly, the minimal amount of pay for this job could play a role in
one being tempted to these corrupt practices for money or to enjoy things that they would otherwise
not have access to. Whether the legislature is currently corrupted or would be so if it becomes a full
time, it is difficult to deny the fact that the legislature is not an

Branding development should always go together with the vision of the company, it was pointed out by Chou; CEO of HTC that HTC will not blindly go for growth, and instead, it would rather deliberately focus on the value . A lot of time when a company is deliberately pursuing its growth, they lose its core values. Chou recognizes the importance of the economies of scale, but he would rather deliberately pursue the value that HTC can pursuit to its consumers. In other words, regardless of the business model, or brand of HTC; HTC focuses on creating their own core values. HTC is not entirely focusing on the value of technology or products; it also includes the value for innovation, brand, market, and management ability. HTC is no longer solely represented by a product, but to expand competitiveness in it s over all capacities. Achieve greater economies of scale. The decision whether to take faster, more aggressive brand promotion approach to heighten brand awareness was closely tied to another issue; find ways to achieve greater economies of scale. This is a generalization made by most of the West, but it is not particularly the West or the Islamic people s fault. There is constant turmoil in Islamic countries in the Middle East and these conflicts are what make the news in the West. The only representation in the media that the Islamic nation gets is that of war. • 13. Impact Of Capital Market On Economic Growth The Capital market in any country is one of the major pillars of long term economic growth and development. The market serves a broad range of clientele, including different levels of government, corporate bodies and individuals within and outside the country. Capital formation entails accumulated savings out of the current incomes of either organization or individual. It is investment in fixed assets which in part is financed with monies raised through the capital market (Al Faki, 2006). The Capital market has been one of the major means through which foreign funds are injected into most economies and the tendency towards a global economy is more visible there than anywhere else. It is therefore, quite valid to state that the growth of the capital market has become one of the barometers for measuring the overall economic growth of a nation (Emenuga, 1998). The theoretical framework on the effects of capital market on economic growth dates back to the work of Schumpeter, (1911) which explained that a well developed financial system can facilitate technological innovation and economic growth through the provision of financial services and resources to investors. The above argument of Schumpeter, (1911) was later advanced as the McKinnon Shaw, (1973) hypothesis, which is a policy analysis tool for developing countries with strong recommendation and high priority on the efficiency of financial systems in facilitating capital accumulation and financial intermediation. Now the parent company was left with debt and many overvalued assets. Vivendi Universal would eventually have to write down significant amounts due to excessive goodwill estimates from acquisitions. Messier was stubborn. He declared that these loses were not reflective of the company s sound operations and tried to blame Lescure, the decision maker for Canal Plus, for the parent company s business failure, deeming Canal Plus as a tumor for Vivendi Universal. All in all, Messier was adamant in keeping to the story that his firm was in good financial position, and, because he had the support of board members (who he had initially appointed), others believed this story as well. His persistence in growing the business fogged his perception of reality he was managing a failing business. It is clear that Messier did a poor job as CEO. 3. • 17. Parkinson s Disease Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be difficult. In order to motivate employees, managers should lessen the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in this case, the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and administration. Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the human resources director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by focusing more on increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and responsibility. Following the idea of satisfaction in the workplace, even though the city has the ability to implement whichever policy it prefers regardless of the employees thoughts that does not imply that the city should take this route. Employees are motivated when management includes them in the decision making process. According to the human relations approach, workers are more motivated and satisfied when there are positive relations between management and workers (Starling, 2011). • 27. Outliers Gladwell Analysis Outliers Outliers is a story about how people become successful through various different theories, practices, and tests. I extremely enjoyed reading this story because it makes you want to change your actions in order to become successful. Outliers explains the various different methods and ways to achieve success. Whether that be the 10,000 hour practice rule or the luck of a birth date, anyone can strive towards success. The story opens up about The Matthew Effect and why hockey players are born in the January, February and March months, while baseball players are born in the June and July Months. The Story is split into two different parts, timing and cultural legacies. For part one, the example that was clearly reliant on timing was birth year. Gladwell is talking about the age of technology and the men that help form that when he states, The perfect age to be in 1975, in other words, and is old enough to be a part of a revolution but not so old that you missed it (Gladwell 65). To further expand his quote, the ideal years to be born in were 1953 56. He goes on to support his intellectual find with strong evidence stating that men such as Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Ballmer, Steve Jobs, and Eric Schmidt had been born in those years. All of these men are notoriously said to be the fathers of the technological age. Without the births of these brilliant men, it might have been impossible to type this paper. Diving into part two of Outliers, Gladwell focuses strictly on cultural legacies. He provides various example of how some kids are merely just fortune children and others just have lucky cultural and ethnic backgrounds that help provide their success. The band that performed was called Lemon City Trio. Lemon City Trio has three bands members that go by the names Brian Robertson, Nick Tannura, and Aaron Glueckauf. The jazz concert consisted of two sets of ten songs that lasted for about two hours. Brian Robertson played the organ, Nick Tannura played guitar, and Aaron Glueckauf played drums. They alternated from crescendos and decrescendos throughout this song, which made the song a little bit more interesting. Everyone had a solo in this song. The organ player s solo was the best one to me because he played so fast at times even though the tempo of this song was mostly slow. This was my least favorite song of the set because I felt as though this song had more minor keys than major keys. The remaining songs in the concerts were original songs that the band wrote and songs that were coming out on their debut EP. The first original song played was the song Same Old Thing . This song had a polyphonic texture between the guitar and the piano and had a fast tempo. One of the motifs in this song was very catchy and was repeated a couple times. This song was short and had a steady rhythm. The dynamics of this song were good because the tones were not too soft or too loud. The melody had a bright and warm mood that matched the atmosphere of the club. All the instruments blended beautifully which resulted in a great harmony. I felt like the drumming on this song made the song complete. The timbre in the song Flying Free was bright and had a smooth flow. I liked how the melody repeated a couple times in this song. This show is a perfect example of how much of a distorted image this show is portraying for the average life of a high school student. A lot of this show is very unrealistic to what the average human being lives like. They are all living very extravagantly for being so young. All of the issues in the episode are very easily avoidable, but they choose to take all of these issues and make them top priority and stress over unnecessary things. Some of the ways that they portrayed family seemed a bit unrealistic. They do not have a in between when it comes to family. It is either a picture perfect family or a completely broken one. The characters that had broken families seemed to hide it or at least try very hard to hide the fact that they had a broken family, and I feel like in society it is the same way. Many people try to hide that they have a broken family because they are embarrassed or don t want people to think differently of them. This show does not show any evidence of the mean world syndrome. In some cases the characters did show signs of having evil intentions but at the end of the episode they all came to their sense at the end of the episode and realized in the long run that these are the people they grew up with and will be around for the rest of their lives. • 34. Snakes of Time in Dante s Hell Essay Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit (Romans 3:13). Snakes have been a universal symbol of fraud in literature since The Fall, when God transformed Satan into a beguiling snake and [c]ursed Satan to slide on [his] belly for all eternity for his deception (Alter 41). Dante uses snakes in his epic poem, the Inferno, to tie the fraudulent nature of thieves to their punishment in the seventh bolgia of the eighth circle of Hell. Snakes have metaphorically slithered through time and shed, taking on new appearances as deceivers in society. In 2005, they revealed a new face, Olatunji Oluwatosin, an identity thief. Caught in this operation, Oluwatosin dropped the paperwork he had just received in terror and was taken to the Los Angeles Country Superior Court, where he received an appropriate punishment of ten years in prison under charges of identity theft (O Harrow, Mimoso). Similarly, Dante s Inferno forces the naked and terrified thieves to run from venomous snakes with their hands behind their backs, without a hope of hiding (Alighieri 251). The thieves who once were concealing themselves are now exposed. Moreover, with Oluwatosin s numerous stolen identities, his crimes resemble the chelydri and jaculi, phareans, cenchres, and head tailed amphisbenes of Libya (251). Oluwatosin assumed these identities to camouflage himself, much as snakes do in their environment. However, once apprehended, both the thieves of Dante s fourteenth century Italy and today s society must endure punishment. As the United States court system sentenced Oluwatosin to ten years in prison, Dante Alighieri arranges a more extreme punishment, where snakes thrust between the legs of sinners and form a knot in the groin (253). This punishment illustrates the idea of contrapasso, or a fitting punishment. Oluwatosin s life of crime tied a knot of confinement since his former self could never be restored and his rights were limited in prison. Furthermore, the punishment reveals the ... Technical Writing Vs Technical Communication In today s highly technologically oriented world, people have begun to communicate in innovative ways, which include, inter alia, telephones, cell telephones, smartphones, handheld electronic devices, tablets, email, video conferencing, instant messaging or text messaging. With the advent of the information revolution at the turn of the century, the concept of professional communication has been repeatedly redefined to accommodate the contemporary trends, methods and changes that communication in the corporate world has witnessed. Many of the theories in professional communication are derived from traditional communication, technical writing, rhetorical theory and ethics. According to Julia Wood (2004), communication is a systemic process in which individuals interact with and through symbols to create and interpret meanings. A technical communicator is responsible for writing documents, designing and creating graphics, designing and creating websites, copyediting other documents, examining documents for usability, illustrations, and much more. An additional argument against a full time legislation is the belief that it would increase corruption due to the fact that the legislators would have more time together to deliberate and give in to the temptation of unethical practices. (Champagne 217) My opinion is that a full time legislature would offer more time and money for the job to be completed thoroughly. Instead of scheming, they would be able to research and discuss the bills as they are being submitted. It seems that corruption is caused for two reasons. The first being that currently there is simply not enough time to tackle all the issues, so when one is approached with being persuaded to support a certain bill, they act on it when they might not have even known that it existed. Secondly, the minimal amount of pay for this job could play a role in one being tempted to these corrupt practices for money or to enjoy things that they would otherwise not have access to.
