The Importance Of Stump In Health And Social Care
UNDERSTANDING YOUR BABY S UMBILICAL STUMP: EXPECTATIONS AND CARE
The umbilical cord is what connects the baby to the mother during pregnancy. It is an important
element of pregnancy your baby s lifeline actually; it s what supplies oxygen, nutrients and life to
your baby for healthy development while in the womb. At delivery, the umbilical cord will be
clamped with a plastic clip and cut close to the baby s body in a simple procedure (cutting the
cord won t be painful for you or the baby as there are no nerves in the cord). After the cut, a stump
of tissue about 2 3cm (1 1ВЅ inches) long in the plastic clip is all that will be left. This is what
drops off, heals and becomes your baby s belly button (navel). Normally, your baby s... Show more

Gentle cleansing with soap and (or) plain water will do just fine. пѓ Diapers should be folded
below the stump always. At no instance should the umbilical stump be covered with bandages or
anything else that may obstruct airflow. пѓ Your baby stump should be kept dry. Patting the stump
lightly with a clean cloth or cotton wool should it get wet and (or) after baths will help dry it up.
пѓ Applications of powders, oils or any other substances on the stump are a NO NO. пѓ Your
baby s stump should never be pulled out even if it looks like it is almost falling off. It may fall
out easily if pulled, but it is best to allow the stump to drop off by itself. Your Paediatrician
/ Doctor should be contacted or your baby taken to the hospital immediately if you notice any
sign of infection. Signs to look out for may include any or all of: п‚· Yellowish stinky fluid
discharge ( pus) from your baby s stump. п‚· Redness around the belly button п‚· High temperature
/ fever п‚· Tenderness to the touch (your baby cries at every

India was lucrative since the Indian handheld market is booming and slowly becoming one of
the world s biggest and fasted growing markets. There being a lack of certain technology, gives
HTC the opportunities to fill new market gaps. The company s products are standardized for the
global market, while strategies are adapted to respected countries. HTC seems to be efficiency
seeking when looking especially at the Indian market. HTC is selling phones globally and in
India they are trying to succeed through International Specialization. The company was
benefiting at first, from the lack of top of the line mobile phones in the Indian market. Its future
strategy is to keep this trend going. The company is trying to take over the top and middle class
mobile phone market in India by being the first to offer the latest and greatest technology
available and ignoring the lower class mobile market. It managed to do so already by introducing
the first fully touch phone and fully Android powered phone. HTC s Indian Market Entry Strategy
In 2007, HTC made its entry into the Indian market with the collaborative launch of the HTC
Touch together with Bhartia Airtel. Their portfolio of devices has been rising steadily, priced at
between Rs 10,000 to RS 45,000. Targeting high end users at first, their strategy has shifted since, to
also attract mid range users. While partnering up with Reliance

media Essay examples
The media as a whole plays a major part in one s life. Media messages can be presented in many
ways from reading newspapers to watching news on television from the comfort of your own
home. However, the most important factors are how the news is retrieved and portrayed by an
individual or a group of individuals as each individual has the right to accept what they believe
not what they are manipulated to believe or to accept. There are various issues that can be looked
at to conclude whether or not there is such thing as free, unbiased media, to define this topic it is
too broad to study itself so it will be broken down and researched in small parts. Biasin different

Taking this into consideration the media industries must release products for their customers to
buy in order for them to make a profit. This is known as commercial bias for the reason that the
customers of the news media are advertisers. The meaning of good to media sources is observed as
the number of readers and viewers attention they can draw.
The sources of bias can be from editors, journalists, speakers and corporation groups. When
journalists or any other news source decide to publish a particular story it needs to be taken into
account whether or not they will benefit from the story or will it be a failure to them. A journalist
will attempt to be neutral by taking two points into thought, the first being: fairness to those
individuals involved within the news / story being released and the second is a professional process
of collecting data / information that obtains fairness, completeness and accurateness.
When detecting bias in a press release or story a number of issues can be raised from the reader s
point of view resulting in questions relating to the authors socio political position and which group
they belong to, does the speaker have something or another to gain personally for actually releasing
the story or not. Such

Daedalus And Icarus By Anthony Van Dyck
The painting Daedalus and Icarus by Anthony van Dyck, (located in the AGO s European section)
visually represents a few concepts we have covered in our Adolescent Development and Health
course, such as the conflicts that arise between parents and their adolescent children in the
Steinberg and Morris article: Adolescent Development .
Van Dyck s painting captures the subtleties of adolescent naivety, Icarushand gesture can be argued
as being like the contemporary shoulder shrug and eye roll of a teenager as their parent warns or
lecture them. His eyes look towards the viewer, rather than to his father, as Daedalus points
upwards, warning him not to fly too close to the sun, or his wings will melt and he will fall to his

A Day Of Sorority Recruitment
As I walked into the glittery ballroom once again, trying my hardest to remove the white cat hair
from my black sweater, I noticed that almost everyone had heels on and ignored the Panhellenic
letter that suggested we wear church attire. I was already nervous about having to wear an overly
conservative dress that didn`t match my style for the second day of sorority recruitment, so seeing
that everybody else looked like runway models only added to my nausea. However, when I looked
around the room I saw many girls who were didn`t fit in, like me; some who opted for slacks,
some who decided to wear no makeup, some who just didn t look like everyone else. We all had
similar demeanors: uncertain smiles, furrowed brows, and faces that were pointed straight down, as
if we were being reprimanded.
After everyone had sat down, the recruitment organizers slowly handed out envelops to every girl,
which would list the sororities that had invited them back. There was no chance that we would
have no names in our envelopes, because those girls got informed that they weren`t welcome
back the night before. So, when I opened my envelope I knew that at least one group thought I
was good enough. I had my hopes high for a certain sorority and I was pretty positive that they
liked me, but I was faced with disappointment as I opened my envelope. The one group that I felt
I had belonged in had rejected me, and the one group that I had dreaded were at the top of my list.
Now, I was lucky,

Determining Enthalpy Change of a Displacement Reaction
Determining an enthalpy change of a displacement reaction
Aim:
To determine the enthalpy change for the displacement reaction between zinc powder and copper
(II) sulphate solution.
Zn (s) + Cu2+ (aq) в†’ Cu2+ (s) + Zn2+ (aq)
Theory:
For the displacement reaction, an excess amount of zinc powder is added to the measured amount of
aqueous copper (II) sulphate. The temperature change over a period of time has to be measured and
thus, the enthalpy change for the reaction can be measured.
The equation of the above reaction is:
Zn (s) + Cu2+ (aq) в†’ Cu2+ (s) + Zn2+ (aq)
Apparatus: * * Safety spectacles * Polystyrene cup with lid * Pipette, 25 cm3 * Pipette filler *
Weighing bottle * Spatula * Balance * Thermometer,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zn (s) в†’ Zn2+ (aq) + 2e And copper (II) ions were reduced to copper because it gained electrons
and its oxidation number changed from +2 in copper (II) ions to 0 in copper. Cu2+ (aq) + 2e в†’
Cu (s) The overall equation of the reaction was:
Zn (s) + Cu2+ (aq) в†’ Cu (s) + Zn2+ (aq) The zinc powder was black in colour while copper (II)
sulphate solution was blue in colour because of the presence of copper (II) ions. When the zinc
powder was added to the copper (II) sulphate solution and stirred, it was hard to observe the
pattern of the colour change because the polystyrene cup as covered with a lid. At the end of the
experiment when the lid was removed, it was found out that the blue colour of the copper (II)
sulphate solution has faded away. It was turned to pale grey and there were some precipitates
present. It was the zinc powder that was in excess to ensure that the copper (II) sulphate solution
could react fully with the zinc powder. The colour of the precipitate was black and were quite
small in size, so it was a bit hard to distinguish between the zinc powder present and the copper
formed by the displacement reaction because copper formed should be reddish brown is colour
which is also a dark colour and thus two dark colours were hard to be distinguished. Zinc powder
was used in the reaction instead of a piece

Online Shopping Conduct And Internet Shopping Essay
INTRODUCTION
Online shopping is almost to synonymous to customary shopping through brick and mortar stores.
As indicated by UCLA Center for Communication Policy, online shopping has been rising as a
standout among the most famous web exercises, marginally behind e mailing and internet surfing
and in addition surpasses online entertainment search and online news. Online shopping conduct
(additionally called web purchasing conduct and Internet shopping/purchasing conduct) implies to
the procedure of buying merchandise/goods or services by means of the Internet. In a standard
online shopping procedure, potential customer s see/feel/sense a necessity for some good or
service and they approach to online shopping to search about the product/service and make a
purchase decision to gratify the need. In some cases, instead of looking for intentionally, once in a
while potential customers are pulled in by information about merchandise or services joined with
the felt need. They then evaluate decisions and pick the specific alternative that best fits their
criteria for meeting the obliged need. Finally, the purchase is made and post purchase services are
given. In this term paper I explore the various attitudes, behaviors and traits exhibited by consumers
during this online purchase decision, factors which facilitate and influence their decision making.
Online shopping behavior here also refers to consumers psychological state and intent in terms of

Song Of Solomon Father Son Relationship
Father and Son s Helluva Piss Similarities and Differences
In Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison illustrates the relationship between two Macon Dead s, father
and son. Throughout the novel, Macon II and Macon III, better known as Milkman, have bouts of
conflict and reconciliation, and with each interaction their similarities and differences are gradually
revealed. However, there is one image which reveals truths about both characters without any
interaction. Set decades apart, both father and son are set in parallel scenes, urinating in the
wilderness, in the open air. Perhaps small and seemingly unimportant, but these actions and images
can be unpacked further than face value; subtle details planted by Morrison can be used to reveal
both the similar and different character traits of Macon and Milkman. ... Show more content on

Macon stands up to do his business without any warning or asking for any sort of permission:
...and immediately, like a burglar out on his first job, stood up to pee. (PAGE) In contrast,
Milkman has to beg and plead: I have go to go to the bathroom...I have to go! (34) At the surface
level, readers might only believe that this slight difference was caused by contrasting
circumstances. But the question can be asked: what s the difference between Macon making his
own decision, versus Milkman begging for permission? Really digging deep into these images, we
notice that these images help to show how Macon seems to exercise control over himself, is able
to forge ahead into his own destiny. Whereas Milkman, at least (especially) as he s shown in his
early childhood, is hesitant to make independent decisions in

known for that stuff anymore (Anjou, 2002). So Steven Tyler would do lots of stuff like smoke
joints and sell drugs but sometimes get caught (Tyler Dalton, 2011). Joe Perry leaves and makes

The s The Egg And The Sperm
The Construction and Use of Nature for Authority One common perception of nature is that it is
something raw, untouched by human civilization. This point of view suggests that humans are
completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way
unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also
deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg
and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female
Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to
examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender
stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction
process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong
rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical
purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates
how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and
sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the
power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). By associating the egg with feminine
traits and the sperm with masculine traits, scientists make these

MADINA COSMETICS? Being a franchisee of Jergens in Lebanon, MADINA GROUP tried to
launch Jergens products into the Lebanese market, but this launching did not succeed as it was
expected to be and that s because it was hard that MADINA GROUP manage all these different
services and activities at one time, after all the company was growing and managing it was
becoming more and more difficult and complicated, that s why we can say that the first
launching was a failure in the Lebanese markets. So they decided to create a special department
which will be concerned only about marketing, selling and everything related to cosmetics only,
and therefore MADINA COSMETICS was born in the year 2001 trying to re launch its Jergens
products in Lebanon. MADINA COSMETICS imports all Jergens products from Dubai, under
American supervision and observation, where Jergens has a manufacturing company, which is
responsible to cover the demand in all the Middle East area, so they are their suppliers. What is

Review Of The Little Kids
The Little Kids Robert and Bessie s little kids, Teck and Vern, attended the same college where
they each studied for and obtained teaching degrees. Mindful of the need to earn money for
tuition during the summer months, Vern, Teck, and Bonnie, a college friend of theirs,
journeyed to Minneapolis, where they could apply for summer work at Glacier National Park.
They received an interview from a park representative that just happened to be an alumnus of
their college. The representative hired the three coeds for a job at which they would each earn
$17.35 in a two week pay period as laundresses. Delighted by the prospect of working at Glacier
National Park, they accepted the job offer and reported to work as scheduled. While at Glacier,
the three collegians earned additional money by volunteering to work extra hours as substitute
waitresses, a job at which they obtained a good share of their compensation through tips. On one
occasion, while serving three elderly ladies, Vern spilled most of their soup on the way to the
table. Since she considered elderly ladies poor tippers, she didn t bother to replenish the soup and
served them the partially filled bowls. She regretted her misdeed when each of the ladies left her a
quarter, huge tips in that era. During their time off from the laundry, if they couldn t obtain work as
waitresses, the three coeds hitchhiked around the park to view and marvel at nature s wonders. At
the conclusion of the summer, they hoped to save

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is not far behind. Amazon s new Kindle offers a higher resolution screen
and new features such as the Mayday button for immediate support all for $120 less than Apple s
iPad. But which tablet is a better overall value for what it can provide? Amazon s Kindle Fire
HDX 8.9 weighs in at .89 pounds with an 8.9 inch display. This is much lighter and smaller than the
iPadAir. Apple s iPad weighs in at 1.05 pounds with a 9.7 inch display which gives the user a
much bigger screen with very little weight difference. Both the iPad Air and the HDX 8.9
contain dual speakers. This offers great sound quality from both tablets. Amazon and Apple have
both improved their game when it comes to new interfaces for their devices. Amazon s HDX
added many new features to its home screen. Although it still contains the somewhat childish
carousel view containing recently opened apps, Amazon added a new Quick Switch feature from
within apps to avoid going back to the home screen. Because the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 was
created primarily for reading, it contains a Quiet Time switch that allows dedicated readers to avoid

Essay on Plato s Symposium
Though not as philosophical as many of Plato s other works, The Symposium gives a greater in
depth account and characterization into the social life of the intellectual circles in Ancient Greece.
The eulogies from each of the philosophers at the discussion examine the origins and theories of
love in its many forms. Several of the theories and themes discussed in The Symposiumare repeated
as well as contrasted by each of the orators. The themes of physical loveand lust, and reproduction
are most notably discussed and compared within each speech.
The ideas of physical love, or the lusting for body rather than mind, are discussed within the
speakers and related to their own physical loves as compared to their intellectual loves. ... Show

In Agathon s eulogy, he praises the actual god that is Love, and speaks of the virtues of Love
rather than the natures. Within these virtues is moderation, and he states that love has the biggest
share of moderation. It is generally agreed that moderation is the mastery of pleasures and desires,
and that no pleasure is stronger than Love...if Love masters pleasures and desires, he must be
exceptionally moderate, (30.196c). This continues further on the ideas of the pleasure received
purely from physical love are inferior and must be practiced in moderation. Socrates closes on the
discussion of physical love and lust in his discussion. He concludes that physical love is not
love at all because, desire and love are directed at what you don t have, what isn t there, and what
you need, (35.200e). Since one can never be in the possession of love, then love can not be held in
the single physical act of lust and pleasure. Each orator discusses the inferiority of the purely
physical acts of love and as they continue, each discussion delves further into the inadequacy of love
without intellect.
As with the aspects of physical love and lust within humans, the ideas of reproduction permeate
throughout The Symposium. In Aristophanes address, he discusses the history of love in the

Yard Signs
One assumption I have generally made when it comes to politics and elections is that campaign
managers know what they re doing, and everything is rooted in numbers. Shows like Scandal
made me think that a campaign manager could point to a graph to show why X strategy works
best. When looking at the research this week over yard signs and after class discussion, I was
surprised at how untrue that can be.
As I ve mentioned in previous papers, measuring certain treatments can be difficult with how many
factors have to be controlled for, and trying to find ways to measure intangible things like impact of
yard signs on voter turnout and more. This issue makes good research especially interesting, like
that performed by Green et al. These researchers performed 4 different experiments, treating a
different number of precincts each time. They treated areas in upstate New York, Albany, Fairfax
County, Virginia, and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Different treatments had different
salience levels, as well as placement and type of sign. Some signs were true yard signs, others
were road signs. Results are best quoted from researchers: it appears that signs typically have a

research we have read and discussed, I find it hard to understand controlling for voters who would
have voted anyway. When social scientists count their vote in research, is it skewing the data at

Mean girls
Opening image: The first image seen is of a girl s parents telling their daughter goodbye and to
have a good first day at school. The girl s mother is crying because unlike most kids her daughter
has never been to a real school. She is sixteen years old and has been homeschooled all her life.
Theme stated: I had a lot of friends in Africa. But so far, none in Evanston. This line basically
foreshadows how she has no friends at her new school so far... Which tells us she will meet new
friends and people and that we ll just have to wait and find out whom and how it goes.

saying that Cady was crazy and obsessed with him, here are some examples I know she s kind of
socially retarded and weird, but she s my friend, so just promise me you won t make fun of her. She
s like a little girl. She, like, writes all over her notebook, Mrs. Aaron Samuels. And she made this
T shirt that says I heart Aaron and she wears it under all her clothes. And And OK, look, I m not
saying she s a stalker, but she saved this Kleenex you used and she said she s going do some kind
of African voodoo with it to make you like her. Regina then kissed them, after all these lies
Aaron became a bit freaked out (but we can tell he likes Cady) and starts dating Regina. Aaron
offers to tutor Cady afterschool and agrees to not tell Regina just in case she d be mad. While
tutoring they kiss and then breakaway because he doesn t find it fair for Regina. Cady has a
huge party and lots of people went including Aaron. When Aaron finds himself upstairs in Cady s
room he stares at a photo of Cady when she was younger on an elephant. Aaron smiles helplessly
and a song starts playing. Now that everything in the break into three is done, Aaron smiles when
Cady is going to try something new and not talk behind anyone s back and when she gets a 98 in a

The Importance Of Life Changing Experiences In My Life
Life altering experiences can occur in the blink of an eye or over a longer time. The experiences
that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my life so far. Please join me as I
reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained in my mind. From leaving the comforts of
the dreary state of Washington to living inside stonewallsin a foreign land. I lay in my hollow
empty shell of a room as I look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all
those nights of staying up late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open
Christmas presents had finally come. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two bags two are
names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter arose in the bus, I began
to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to their dads, Wives to their husbands,
and husbands to their wives. Senseless communication like one that you would make with a
stranger at a coffee shop waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll
and the sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone had
set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could hear is boots
rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as we knew that it was not one
for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward and a gloomy day turned upside down as
we broke through the crowds into a vast sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in
the world for that moment. The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad
had changed dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some
unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very much like a dog
kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain those that came before us had
it much worst. As you exited the living quarters in turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other
living units surrounded. The ground which you use to be mostly sandis now covered with rocks for
better traction. In turn it did not provide better traction it felt more like quick sand. The bathrooms
are shared by approximately five hundred

Film Is Not Yet Rated Essay
This Film Is Not Yet Rated brings up many issues against Motion Pictures Association of
America s rating system. I am in favor of the issues brought up in this film as it seems that some
ratings that the MPAA s rating board give out do not always follow a concrete rule. For example,
movies that contained scenes with homosexuals having sex with each other received an NC 17
rating, compared to other movies that have similar scenes, but with heterosexuals instead received
an R rating. In the end, it is still two people having sex with each other and should not really be
differentiated by their sex or gender.
The individual rating types are also not a good portrayal of the movie as a whole. Bully was a
perfect example of this. Amanda Kehrberg from the Phoenix New Times says The R rating is
based on a handful of swear words used by students in the film who, by the MPAA s standards,
wouldn t be allowed to watch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It contains the following ratings: AL (All), 6, 9, 12, and 16. These number ratings show the age
for which the viewer should be. For ratings 12 and 16, certain broadcast restrictions are set for
when they can be broadcasted on television. Ratings of 12 can only be broadcasted after 8 PM

broadcasted publicly without having to worry about the films exposure in the public. Films rated
16 do require adult supervision at theaters. Additional icons are also next to the ratings to indicate
reasons for that recommendation. These include violence, fear, sex, discrimination, drug and
alcohol abuse, and coarse language. There are also more categories for different child age groups

What I Would Get Rid of to Improve Life in the 21st Century
What I would get rid of to improve life in the 21st century. For me I would like to get rid of
religion to improve life in the 21st century. As we all know, most people think that religion is the
belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
Religious people mostly worship or believe in an omnipotent and diving being, have faith in them,
do whatever they were told by it; they too, believe in the concept of omni beneficient, which means
that Godis all good. And now, in 21st century, the omnipresence of religionstill can be seen
anywhere. Religion had made war, and war had made monsters, scattered war around the world.
Why do people believe in religion? Do they solace, save and... Show more content on

Though religion may be that which determines the goal, it has, nevertheless, learned from science,
in the broadest sense, what means will contribute to the attainment of the goals it has set up. But
science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth
and understanding. Accordingly, a religious person is devout in the sense that he has no doubt of
the significance and loftiness of those super personal objects and goals which neither require nor
are capable of rational foundation. They exist with the same necessity and matter of factness as he
himself. In this sense religion is the age old endeavour of mankind to become clearly and
completely conscious of these values and goals and constantly to strengthen and extend their effect.
If one conceives of religion and science according to these definitions then a conflict between them
appears impossible. For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be, and outside of
its domain value judgments of all kinds remain necessary. Religion, on the other hand, deals only
with evaluations of human thought and action: it cannot justifiably speak of facts and relationships
between facts. According to this interpretation the well known conflicts between religion and
science in the past must all be ascribed to a misapprehension of the situation which has been
described. I strongly believe that

Research Critique, Part 2
The purpose of this paper is to critique an article on the circumstances and characteristics of why
patients fall in the hospital setting. The article being critiqued defines a fall as an unexpected drop
from a sitting, standing, and lying position, which include an assisted fall (where someone helps
guide them to the floor), slipping from a chair to the floor, and when a patient is found on the floor
(Hitcho et al., 2008). This critique will discuss data collection, data management, analysis, and
interpretation of the findings.

There was some researcher bias because some of the information that was collected from different
sources conflicted, and the person who collected the data best judgment was used. Many patients
recall of the circumstances surrounding their fall was not dependable.
The study s findings revealed that of the 183 patients that fell while hospitalized, the average age
was 63.4 with the ages ranging from 17 to 96. It also discovered that many of the falls were
unassisted, occurred in the evenings and in the patient s hospital room, and had fallen during
ambulation. It was also discovered that falls related to elimination increased the risks for injury. Out
of the medical, cardiology, neurology, surgical, oncology, orthopedic, and women/infant units that
were included in the study, the medical and neurology units had the highest incidence of falls.
These units also had the highest patient to nurse ratios (Hitcho et al., 2008). These findings also
determined that falls occurred when patients were unassisted, ambulating, and were related to
elimination needs. Because of these findings, prevention measures should focus on increasing staff
assistance while patients are ambulating and supervised/assisted toileting schedules need to be
provided. The findings can be applied to all areas of nursing. Despite prevention efforts, threats to
reimbursement, and good intentions, falls still remain a serious and costly

Causes Of Genocide In Nigeria
Nigeria has been having a lot of problems lately, but the most important problem Nigeria is facing
is genocide; committed by Boko Haram. Stated by World History of Gale, Boko Haram is a
militant Islamic extremist group that has been terrorizing the civilian population of Nigeria since
2009. The group s official name in Arabic is Jama atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda awati Wal Jihad (Which
means People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet s Teachings and Jihad). In 2009, the
Boko Haram began a series of attacks in Nigeriathat included taking hostages and bombing the
government facilities, security installations, banks, schools, and other public places. In 2011, they
bombed the United NationsHeadquarters in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. The terrorist group raided
villages, torched houses, and staged mass abductions, which became increasingly frequent in the
bloody, violent conflict ( Boko Haram Hostage Crisis in Nigeria ). Genocidehas been a problem in
a lot of places in the world and not just Nigeria; In World War II there was an event of genocide
called the Holocaust. Through the Holocaust, many innocent Jews are being killed by the Nazis
who believed they should exterminate Jews because they were the cause of the Germans losing
World War I. The Jews were taken of their belongings and left to starve till death or die of
sickness. These events remind people of the damage genocide has done to humanity over the years.

The Impact Of The Federal Reserve s Control On Monetary...
Over the past year we have gone through many changes politically, environmentally, and more. The
main change occurring today is the Federal Reserve s control on monetary policy which affects
the interest rates and money supply all caused by the buying or selling of government bonds. The
Federal Reserve needs to raise interest rates because they have remained relatively slow by
historical standards (Binyamin Appelbaum, July 7, 2017). However, the inflationrate and rate of
growth in GDP have been relatively low, restraining the Fed from raising the rates too high.
The Fed discusses how within the end of the year they will start reducing and selling their security
holdings (Binyamin Appelbaum, July 7, 2017). The economic growth of the U.S. ... Show more

The line is vertical because once the Fed sets the money supply, it remains constant until the Fed
changes it (Hall and Lieberman). This is exactly what the Fed conducted for this month. The
interest rate can only be changed by the Fed changing the money supply in the money market. The
Fed has to watch how much they increase interest rates, The Committee will carefully monitor
actual and expected inflation developments relative to its symmetric inflation goal (FOMC, June
14, 2017). The job of the Fed is to influence the interest rate but there is a dilemma concerning
how much the Fed can actually raise it. The growth of the economy has been slow, along with low
inflation just below 2% the FOMC released, with two of their main goals for the year being
maximum employment and price stability being a 2% inflation rate(FOMC, June 14, 2017).
The next step of the Fed is explained by Hall and Lieberman writing, To prevent or address
unwanted changes in aggregate expenditure, the Fed can change its interest rate target, adjusting
the money supply as needed to reach it (Hall and Lieberman). After interest rates increase there will
be a decrease in autonomous consumption and planned investment, which then lowers the
Aggregate Expenditure see Diagram 1, then lowering output GDP. In this case the equilibrium
income is less than the full employment.

The Lament Of The Queen Of Sweden
The Lament of the Queen of Sweden
Luigi Rossi was employed in the Borghese court in Rome in 1620. The seventeenth century in
Rome marked an increase in the level of musical productivity. Some of the finest musicians
including Frescobaldi, Marlo Mazzocchi, Savioni and Carissimi were active in Rome at this time.
Another incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by
Rossi s works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. In 1641, Ottavio
Castelli sent Cardinal Richelieu a copy of Ferito un cavaliere, (a Wounded Knight)
recommending it to Jules Mazarin. This piece was composed by Rossi as a lament of the Queen
of Sweden set to a text by Fabio della Corgna, where the Queen Maria Eleanora ... Show more

Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by
this time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant
downward motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence
became so strongly associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or
further embellishments was not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the
lament to be heard and identified. The ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of
laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form
throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both
pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the Queen of Sweden lament seems to
be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she sings in a sort of emotional
frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! (datemi per pietade un che m uccida)
The music of the refrain also corresponds with the emotions using affective dissonances The idea
that the queen wishes for someone to kill her rather than live in a world without her King husband
is an indicator of how distraught and hysterical she had become and hints at her mental instability
in the period after his death. The lament itself is moving and effective. As rage overcomes the
queen at the injustice of Gustavus death she implores the people to take up arms and submerge the
earth in torrents of blood, may every town be torched at your hands, may every province burn, kill,
wound, do not spare the wicked ones in order to avenge his death. The music changes to highlight
her rage and then her incessant despair appropriately matching her tone lending a unique air to the

The Importance Of Safeguarding Children And Young People
Task 6. Explain the importance of safeguarding children and young people.
Children and young people are vulnerable in nature. As their journey of life is in initial stages of
development. They lack experience to understand and handle certain situations. Their lives can be
severely affected by the risk, danger and fear from unknown or from people who are considered
closest. If they are not taken care during their childhood, they may suffer from difficult young age
and adulthood.
Victoria Climbie s tragic death highlighted how children are at the risk of being maltreated or
abused. Lord Laming s report covered the possibilities of what can propose danger towards
children. It is not enough just keeping children safe from harm/danger or being bullied, but at the
same time they should be able to enjoy their childhood, gain life skills, accept challenges and

While this was a generally accepted pricing practice within the office to control revenue, the
Executive Committee considered this as avoiding responsibility for poorly controlled projects and
being unethical to some clients. Thus, they are currently facing a dilemma regarding how they
should regulate the individual offices business practices without impacting the entrepreneurial spirit
and local autonomy of the company negatively.
The inconsistency in business practices stemmed from conflicting objectives between the parent
company and the acquired office. While the San Jose office is revenue driven, the Executive
Committee s objective is to maintain long term client relationships.

As the Detroit office is the youngest office, it did not have sufficient time to develop its client

Half of these projects will be completed in the next couple of months and there are currently no

Without the use of a Toxin Handler to ameliorate the emotional pain, workplace toxicity affects
the bottom line of an organization through lost productivity from distraction, debilitating health
issues, and attrition (Scholten). Workplace Incivility: I don t have time to be nice. Unlike
aggressive, violent, and abusive workplaces, where the intent to cause harm is apparent,
incivility takes on more ambiguous forms, where the perceptions of the instigator, target, and
observer(s), must factor together to determine intent (Andersson, 1999). General incivility, as a
primary precursor to a toxic workplace, can be described as rude behavior, or a disregard for
others within the organization, stemming from a lack of recognition, or ignorance, of co workers
emotions and values, often taking form in deviance as a protest of dissatisfaction (Kelloway,
2010), and leads to a downward spiral of malcontent. Pearson classifies Incivility as Low intensity
deviant behavior with ambiguous intent to harm stemming from Anti social behavior in violation
of workplace norms for mutual respect .Despite the intent, or lack thereof, the effects of incivility
in the workplace are strictly damaging, and as such, must be addressed before spiraling out of
control. Examples of workplace incivility include ignoring advice and belittling ideas, lack of
active listening, taking credit for shared work and public criticism or insults (Johnson, 2001). Even

Participatory Action Research And Explanation
In the reviewed literature, a case is made for participatory action research and explanation given
on its composition and on how it enhances the quality of research (Greenwood et al, 1993). They
define participatory action research as a type of research that brings together a member of the
organization (insider) and an expert researchto carry out the research process.
Gibbons et al (1994) talks about the knowledge production mode as well as a number of author
later (Huff and Huff, 2001; Huff, 2000; Starky and Madan, 2001; Tranfield and Starky, 1998).
The definition is articulated into traditional or mode 1 (pursuit of scientific truths), and
interactive or mode 2 (production of knowledge by application) (Huff, 2000). Mode 3 and mode
1.5 is also referenced by Huff (2000). It is worth noting that no specific mode fit my organization
exactly: I see a lot of mode 2 as management wants to solve problems quickly to reduce loss.
In the problem solving process, innovations (their spread or lack of spread), pro innovation biases,
and their influencers will be encountered. From review literature, Abrahamson (1991) teaches us
how to handle these and how to prevent pro innovation biases by using a matrix and rejecting
assumptions.
Critically reflecting on my wicked problem, some thoughts were investigated and in some cases
evidence: these were reviewed.

The Philippine-American War
This was America s first true colonial war as a world power. After defeating Spain in Cuba and in
the Philippines in 1898, the U.S. purchased the Philippines, Puerto Rico and several other islands
from the Spanish. However, the Filipinos had been fighting a bloody revolution against Spain since
1896 and had no intention of becoming a colony of another imperialist power. In February of 1899,
fighting broke out between the occupying American Army and the Filipino forces. The basic causes
of the Philippine American Warcan be found in the U.S. government s quest for an overseas empire
and the desire of the Filipino people for freedom.
Following the surrender of the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines to American military
forces in August 1898, tensions developed between U.S. and Filipino forces near Manila. The ...

Crime And Hate Crimes
Hate crimes are criminal infractions in which the victim is targeted due to his or her actual or
perceived demographic status, that is, their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation,
or national origin. Unlike many other violent crimes, hate crimes have an effect on both the
immediate target and the communities of which the individuals are a member. As such, research
(Herek, Gillis, Cogan, 1999; McDevitt, Balboni, Garcia, Gu, 2001) has shown that victims of
violent hate crimes may suffer from more psychological distress, that is, depression, stress,
anger, anxiety, among other psychological related concerns more than victims of other violent
crimes. The purpose of this paper is to explore a subtopic of forensic psychology that is not
commonly discussed, that is, bias crimes or hate crimes. In order to explore this topic, an
examination of several aspects related to it will ensue, including a detailed review of the effects
hate crimes have on victims, the effects hate crimes have on communities, people who are risk of
being victims, the perpetrators of hate crimes (whether they are individuals or part of hate groups),
an overall inquiry of hate motivated offending as well as the different types, and lastly, addressing
hate crimes and potential solutions. For this reason, the main question of focus for this paper, then,
is why otherwise non violent people commit violent offenses towards certain groups (i.e. minority
groups) as well as the effects that follow for the victims.
Motivation and Typology
With regard to hate motivated offenses, research on offender motivation remains sparse, partially
due to the relative infrequency with which these crimes are reported, and to a lesser degree, an
offended is identified, however, it is important to explore whether these offenses differ from other
similar crimes. Based on interviews with police officials, victims, and several hate crime offenders,
Levin and McDevitt (1993) developed a typology that identified three primary motivations and of
which were later adopted by law enforcement: offenders who committed their crimes for the
excitement or the thrill, offenders who saw themselves as defending their turf, and finally a small
group of offenders

but is still plagued with financial concerns due to its upcoming mass market car, the Model 3, and

Eva Quote De Peron
Eva Duarte Peron (Evita) Thesis: Her experience as a member of the lower class who overcame
poverty and her belief in bringing justice to the poor made everything that she did for the people
of Argentina possible. Eva Peron Mi vida por Peron! ( My life for Peron! ) [Evita] cried a
thousand times before the roaring crowds, and then she died. There are parallels that could be
drawn between her life and the lives of other obsessively ambitious women who have forced their
way through poverty and fame.but instead popular memory finds parallels between Evita s life
and the lives of the saints, because she did it all for someone else. (Guillermoprieto 100) From
Colonel Juan Peron s election in 1946... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also continued her work in the Secretariat for no salary. Her only earnings were the love and
affection from Peron and the Argentine people (Peron 125). On June 19, 1948, Evita founded
the Maria Eva Duarte de Peron Foundation, or EPF. This foundation was created to provide
national safety where the government was weak (To Be II). The Foundation s work was
necessary in the lower class areas of the country, rather than in the cities. Eva believed that the
descamisados were the base, the foundation, of the revolution. They were an essential part of the
country s people (Peron 80). The Social Help Crusade created housing and neighborhoods that
were affordable for the poor. The crusade also created jobs for the unemployed and school food
programs. It provided inexpensive hospital supplies and free medication. Workers unions
donated many of these materials. Evita began The Eva Peron Hospital Train, which provided
free check ups, vaccinations, x rays, and general medical care to people who either did not have
access to hospitals or who could not afford a visit to the doctor (To Be II). Twelve hospitals and
two policlinicos (hospitals for the railroad workers) were built with the same objective as the
Hospital Train. These hospitals attracted the best doctor in the country, and the charge

Little Italy Informative Speech
Hello everyone. Before I begin my presentation, I d like to talk about a phrase, which is, as you
see, Little Italy. Little Italy is a general name for an ethnic enclave populated primarily by Italians
or people of Italian ancestry. These enclaves became known for their ethnic associations, and cities
with Little Italyblossomed, becoming the icons they are today.
The city I m going to talk about is the region with the greatest amount of Little Italies in America,
the New York City. Thus, the topic today is Italian Americans in NYC.
Before World War One, people in Southern Italy had a hard time. Due to tax burden, soil erosion
and military conscription lasting seven years, a large exodus left from southern Italy heading to the
USA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trend has continued to the present day. The stereotype of Italian Americans has been fostered
especially through commercially successful movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas and Casino;
and TV programs such as The Sopranos. In actuality, as recent FBI statistics shows, only one IA in
6,000 has any involvement with organized crime.
The mass media has consistently ignored five centuries of Italian American history, and has
elevated what was never more than a minute subculture to the dominant Italian American culture.
Of course IA in NYC protested against the negative portrayal of their community and sued the
producers but failed most of the time. To be exact, not only Italian Americans in New York City
protested against the stereotype, it s a problem in the whole country. It s kind of a dilemma as the
stereotype has rooted in the mind of Americans and even people in other countries. That leaves us a
problem to solve in the future.
Let s drop this topic for a moment, and focus on the last point

The Corporate Side Of American Public Education And The...
Diane Ravitch explores the corporate side of American public education and the reformists misled
beliefs that the school system is in crisis. The school reforms in place are disguised as a means of
improving public education, when in reality it has become an objective to replace public education
with a privately managed, free market system of schooling (Ravitch, p.4). Diane Ravitch supports
her claim that the reformation movement has poor intentions with multiple sources of evidence.
Among these facts she uncovers the truth behind test scores and the achievement gap. Furthermore,
Ravitch exposes how the reform movement is a back door way to privatize schooling with
monetary motives in mind. In response to these problems, Diane... Show more content on

Another reality that Diane Ravitch sheds light on is the misconstrued theories about the
achievement gap. Reformers often say that African American and Hispanic students have not made
progress for decades (Ravitch, p.55). However, after looking at the data from NAEP, it is evident
that this assertion by the reformers just simply is not true. Rather, these students have shown
dramatic increases in math. Many do not recognize this though because white achievement has also
improved which keeps the gap at large. (Ravitch, p.56) Throughout different grades, African
Americans and Hispanics have shown remarkable progress in mathematics. There has been
improvement in reading as well, just not as dramatic as the progress shown in math. Ravitch states,
Today s reformers often imply that schools alone can close the achievement gaps among different
groups. The like to point to exemplary charter schools with high test scores to prove their point
(Ravitch, p.59). While the belief that a charter school could bridge the achievement gap and
overcome the disadvantages of poverty, it simply is not a realistically feasible concept. Thomas
B. Timar of the University of California states, Yet the gap is the symptom of larger social,
economic and political problems that go far beyond the reach of the school... While schools are
part of the solution, they alone cannot solve the problem of educational disparities (Ravitch, p.60).

Write About the Ways in Which Auden Tells the Story in...
I feel that Auden tells the story of Miss Edith Gee extremely well, using a wide variety of literary
techniques to make it an interesting but disturbingly thought provoking read. The story shows how
our protagonist is surely going about her life, in the eyes of others, as if nothing is wrong, but
when she is alone she wonders if anyone does care about her.
The initial exposition is extremely sympathetic towards Miss Gee. Now let me tell you a little
story about Miss Edith Gee is a cruel way to open the narrative as Auden instantly belittles her
character and makes her seem insignificant, whereas she is actually the main, if not only character
we meet in detail. This technique is effectives the reader then feels that she is ... Show more content

This make me, as a reader feel that she is pessimistic and doesn t really stop thinking and relax
for just a moment. In this same stanza, at line 15, the back pedal brake is described as harsh .
This is effective imagery as it has two different connotations. There could be the fact that it is a
hard and rusty back pedal brake, but there is also the metaphor that she is on a bike ride, a
symbol for her monotonous life, and she is constantly held back by this brake that is stiff and
harsh when triggered, possibly meaning that she is held back in life by the way she lives her life and
how dull it is.
The way in which irony is introduced in stanza 5, where Auden says that Miss Edith Gee attends
St. Aloysius church, is clever because St Aloysius overcame his disease of the plague, whereas
Miss Gee has a substantially different fate. This again, may be seen by some to be Auden mocking
Edith Gee and her insignificant life.
Miss Gee looks for guidance as she gazes up to the stars and dialogue is introduced with Does
anyone care that I live in Clevedon Terrace on one hundred pounds a year? She seems to be
crying out for attention or perhaps someone to care for her and love her, but it seems that she is
cruelly denied this desire.
She does find something to bury her thoughts in, and it so happens to be the vicar of her local
church, whom she has sexual fantasies and desires about. Her desires start off to

The Modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Essay
Introduction
The modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was established by the King Abdulaziz bin Abdelrahman
Al Saud in 1932 (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam, 2011; BTI, 2012; Hamzawy, 2006; Peterson, 1984;
UN, 2004). Saudi is a big country with 13 provinces (mintaqah) and 1,600, 000 km2 (Albassam,
2011; UN, 2004). Saudi has the largest reserves of oil in the world (UN, 2004). The political
system in Saudi is Monarchy since the day of Unification of the Kingdom (23 September, 1932)

Moreover, Saudi legal system is mainly based on Quran and Sunnah, however daily life
administration matters are managed by promulgate regulations (Matthes, et al., 2007; UN, 2004).
The full draft of all administrative regulations (called Nizam) was compiled first during the days
of King Fahd in 1992 (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam, 2011; UN, 2004). King Fahd with those
regulations started to establish a state with written and clear laws that are necessary to build a
modern country. Political System of Saudi Arabiaconsists of judicial authority, executive authority
and
Organizational authority (Hamzawy, 2006; Matthes, et al., 2007). Traditionally, the king has the
executive and legislative authorities; this means that the king has judicial power in the land (Al
Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam, 2011; Matthes, et al., 2007). The king s power is controlled by
Islamic law, seeking consensus among royal family members, religious leaders, and the leaders
of important tribal families (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Matthes, et al., 2007; Peterson, 1984; UN, 2004).
However Saudi since 1990s started to add some modern touches to its political system to get along
with the economic and social changes in the kingdom (Albassam, 2011; Peterson, 1984). The
major components of Saudi political are listed in the study of (Peterson, 1984) as follows:

Guernica Comparison
The painting Guernica, by Pablo Picasso, and the painting Executions of the Third of May, by
Francisco de Goya, were are both centered around the same general theme. There are several
similarities between the two pieces regarding content and meaning. In addition to the similarities of
these two pieces, there are also some differences regarding the artists, the creation process of the
pieces, and the technical aspects that make up the paintings. Similarities and differences can be
identified in these two pieces by analyzing the historical, political, social, cultural, religious,

General Franco accepted aid from currently fascist governments, such as those of Hitler and
Mussolini, in exchange for the allowance of Hitler s Nazis to practice their aerial warfare
against the inhabitants of Guernica. On April 28, 1937, the German Nazis air bombed the town
of Guernica, which is the old Basque capital in Spain. As a result, the civilians of Guernica were
left with a destroyed town and the massacre of numerous inhabitants. At the time of this event,
Picasso was working in Paris and was commissioned by his government to paint a mural for the
Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair. Guernica was completed in a short time following the
bombing of Guernica. Picasso did not allow Guernica to be displayed in Spain while General
Franco was in power, which led to the portrayal of the painting at the Museum of Modern Art in
New York. After General Franco was stripped of his power, the painting made its way back to
Spain to be displayed in Madrid, the Spanish capital. The Basque Nationalist Movement, who
favors the Basque territories cession from Spain, claims that Guernica has been stolen from them.

Why Is Hector Inevitable
The death of Hector was inevitable. After Agamemnon insulting Achilles by having his men take
Achilles prize award (King Priam s daughter), Achilles contemplated if he should take revenge on
the topic but sat on the shore line instead to think it over. While Achilles is deciding whether to
destroy Agamemnon and his people the Trojans attack the Greeks and kill a lot of Achillesmen.
This was a time I thought to myself that there was no way Achilles was going to sit back and do
nothing about the deaths of his men. After Agamemnon discovers his idea to attack Achilles
people is not worth it, he begs Achilles to participate in the war so he can kill him off himself. Led
by Hector, son of Priam, the Trojans still decide to fight after Achilles denies the invitation.

Though some may call him cruel and incapable of feelings sadness, I find that his defense
against Hector to resemble his heart that he had for his friend Patroclus. The Goddess Athena
pretends to be Hector s brother to encourage Hector to fight Achilles and stop standing behind
the wall. I think this is a very important aspect in the tale because without Athena pretending to be
Deiphobus, Hector might not have even fought him. After defeating Hector, Achilles showed no
sign of remorse and took the body into the town to show his victory off. Even though readers can
feel the fear that came from Hector as he was slowly dying, Achilles gave no mercy because he
was fighting for his people which makes him a hero in my book. Others might say Achilles is a
bad person for not allowing the body of Hector to go back to his family, but in those times the the
main purpose of ending a war was to exchange the bodies to gloat over their success. In my mind,
if Hector were to kill Achilles he would have not shown him any mercy

Isolation In Othello
The most important and defining theme in Othello and O is jealousy, while isolation is also a
major component of the texts, jealousy more or less defines the two texts in each of their separate

Hugo s dream to take flight and soar above everything and everyone and his admittance that he
knows you re not supposed to be jealous brings closure and responders are able to gain some
insight into the reasons behind Hugo s betrayal of Odin s trust. Tim Blake Nelson effectively
utilises imagery to show the corruption of jealousy. A prime example is the use of the recurring
visual tree motif. From the beginnings of the text, responders are exposed to images of straight,
healthy trees that are used to portray the unsoiled minds of the characters. However, once Hugo s
villainous plot develops and the jealousy develops, the trees outside of the boarding facility
become twisted, deformed and a strange material starts to corrupt the coherence of some shots.
When Odin spies Mike conversing with Desi and in the mise en scene, a strange material can be

technique that demonstrates to the audience the corruption of Odin s mind that questions Desi s
fidelity spawned from jealousy, which eventually leads to his and her

Jews During The Nazi Occupation
Since the start of the Nazi occupation in Europe, Jewish communities and individuals were
struggling with survival, and fought for their existence. Many Jews tried to evade or overcome
the degrading Nazi decrees, that stripped them of civil and human rights, triggered isolation and
denied them a livelihood. The Nazis simply wanted to create a condition in which no human
being, particularly Jewish, can live or even exist. For a long time, the Jews view on the sanctity of
life, a duty to protect one s life, encouraged them to endure the period of intense pain and suffering.

Therefore, the external and internal conditions of the ghettos and concentration camps made it
extremely challenging for Jewish resistance. Despite these horrific conditions, the creation of a
Jewish military organization, fighting in Partisans bands, the death camp revolts, and the
ghetto uprisings negate the argument that the Jews of Europe of were passive before the
darkest period in modern history, the Jewish genocide. As a whole, the Jews did not accept their
death mutely, as sheep to the slaughter. Firstly, the Jews in Europe organized a Jewish military
league to resist the Nazi brutality. In Vilna, the first organized Jewish armed resistance arose
from the youth movements. After the invasion of the Soviet Union is 1941, two thirds of the
Jewish population of Vilna were deported by the Nazis ( Jewish Combat Organization. ). Those
who survived warned the other Jews of the ordeal awaiting them, which paved the way for the
First Manifesto . This document called out for Jewish resistance and was written by Abba

Vilna and the youth movements, and explained the fate of the ghetto deportees (that they were all

manifesto was significant, as it was the first call for the Jews to arm themselves and resist the

What Was The Influence Of Foreign Films In The 1940 s
In the early 1940 s, foreign films were made and created an important impact to filmmaking all
around the world. Foreign films allowed viewers to see different cultures and traditions of other
countries. Most of these films were shot in black and white with subtitles to go along against the
background. They were sometimes grainy and did not have as good sound quality as Hollywood
films had because they were produced with such a small budget. This transition of new camera
techniques and editing began to end the Production Code era and started what was known as the
neorealism movement in Italy. Films with subtitles are not very mainstream nowadays, although,
people loved foreign films with subtitles post war because mostly everyone was reading
newspapers, letters and books during that generation. These foreign films were often played in art
houses and they were very trendy for the newer generation because they were more truthful than the

Plate Tectonics Video Analysis
The first video was on plate tectonics, the building blocks of earth. The focus was on the interior
workings of the earth and it described the movement of the earth and the process of redistribution.
The earth is made up of several surfaces and the plates are rigid slabs of solid rock that move
around the earths crust and upper part of the mantel. They wrap around the globe like a net and
interact at boundaries, such as land and ocean.
There are three types of place boundaries, convergent, divergent and transform. Convergent
boundaries are regions that develop when two tectonic plates collide. The area surrounding the
collision becomes mountainous as the plates buckle. This happens through a process called
subduction. Divergent boundaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different structural arrangements in the carbon atoms determine the outcome of the mineral.
Diamonds are the hardest mineral; they are formed under a covalent bond which is very strong.
Graphite on the other hand is one of the softest; it is held with a softer bond. Despite the difference
in structure, both of these minerals are made from the same substance, pure carbon.
Silicates are minerals that contain oxygen and silicon. These two elements can be found in 90% of
the earths minerals. While they do not produce the beauty of diamonds or the wealth of gold, they
are used in the making of construction material. The element in silicon is a common ingredient in
many products in the computing industry.
These two videos were a great introduction into how the earth works. The idea that there is
constant movement within and underneath the earth s crust can be taken for granted. The 1st
video gave a great illustration of how the earth moves and shifts. The second went a little deeper
into what makes up the earth. As a society it is easy to take our resources for granted, but when it

  • 2. The Importance Of Stump In Health And Social Care UNDERSTANDING YOUR BABY S UMBILICAL STUMP: EXPECTATIONS AND CARE The umbilical cord is what connects the baby to the mother during pregnancy. It is an important element of pregnancy your baby s lifeline actually; it s what supplies oxygen, nutrients and life to your baby for healthy development while in the womb. At delivery, the umbilical cord will be clamped with a plastic clip and cut close to the baby s body in a simple procedure (cutting the cord won t be painful for you or the baby as there are no nerves in the cord). After the cut, a stump of tissue about 2 3cm (1 1ВЅ inches) long in the plastic clip is all that will be left. This is what drops off, heals and becomes your baby s belly button (navel). Normally, your baby s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gentle cleansing with soap and (or) plain water will do just fine. пѓ Diapers should be folded below the stump always. At no instance should the umbilical stump be covered with bandages or anything else that may obstruct airflow. пѓ Your baby stump should be kept dry. Patting the stump lightly with a clean cloth or cotton wool should it get wet and (or) after baths will help dry it up. пѓ Applications of powders, oils or any other substances on the stump are a NO NO. пѓ Your baby s stump should never be pulled out even if it looks like it is almost falling off. It may fall out easily if pulled, but it is best to allow the stump to drop off by itself. Your Paediatrician / Doctor should be contacted or your baby taken to the hospital immediately if you notice any sign of infection. Signs to look out for may include any or all of: п‚· Yellowish stinky fluid discharge ( pus) from your baby s stump. п‚· Redness around the belly button п‚· High temperature / fever п‚· Tenderness to the touch (your baby cries at every ... Corporate Strategy) Question: Acting as a market analyst for the US Investment bank Merrill Lynch, you have been allocated the responsibility to produce an appraisal report relating to a client s (MNE) recent market entry Executive Summary In the appraisal I will discuss my findings on HTC s entry into the Indian mobile phone market. India was lucrative since the Indian handheld market is booming and slowly becoming one of the world s biggest and fasted growing markets. There being a lack of certain technology, gives HTC the opportunities to fill new market gaps. The company s products are standardized for the global market, while strategies are adapted to respected countries. HTC seems to be efficiency seeking when looking especially at the Indian market. HTC is selling phones globally and in India they are trying to succeed through International Specialization. The company was benefiting at first, from the lack of top of the line mobile phones in the Indian market. Its future strategy is to keep this trend going. The company is trying to take over the top and middle class mobile phone market in India by being the first to offer the latest and greatest technology available and ignoring the lower class mobile market. It managed to do so already by introducing the first fully touch phone and fully Android powered phone. HTC s Indian Market Entry Strategy In 2007, HTC made its entry into the Indian market with the collaborative launch of the HTC Touch together with Bhartia Airtel. • 4. media Essay examples The media as a whole plays a major part in one s life. Media messages can be presented in many ways from reading newspapers to watching news on television from the comfort of your own home. However, the most important factors are how the news is retrieved and portrayed by an individual or a group of individuals as each individual has the right to accept what they believe not what they are manipulated to believe or to accept. There are various issues that can be looked at to conclude whether or not there is such thing as free, unbiased media, to define this topic it is too broad to study itself so it will be broken down and researched in small parts. Taking this into consideration the media industries must release products for their customers to buy in order for them to make a profit. This is known as commercial bias for the reason that the customers of the news media are advertisers. The meaning of good to media sources is observed as the number of readers and viewers attention they can draw. The sources of bias can be from editors, journalists, speakers and corporation groups. When journalists or any other news source decide to publish a particular story it needs to be taken into account whether or not they will benefit from the story or will it be a failure to them. A journalist will attempt to be neutral by taking two points into thought, the first being: fairness to those individuals involved within the news / story being released and the second is a professional process of collecting data / information that obtains fairness, completeness and accurateness. When detecting bias in a press release or story a number of issues can be raised from the reader s point of view resulting in questions relating to the authors socio political position and which group they belong to, does the speaker have something or another to gain personally for actually releasing the story or not. • 8. A Day Of Sorority Recruitment As I walked into the glittery ballroom once again, trying my hardest to remove the white cat hair from my black sweater, I noticed that almost everyone had heels on and ignored the Panhellenic letter that suggested we wear church attire. I was already nervous about having to wear an overly conservative dress that didn`t match my style for the second day of sorority recruitment, so seeing that everybody else looked like runway models only added to my nausea. However, when I looked around the room I saw many girls who were didn`t fit in, like me; some who opted for slacks, some who decided to wear no makeup, some who just didn t look like everyone else. We all had similar demeanors: uncertain smiles, furrowed brows, and faces that were pointed straight down, as if we were being reprimanded. After everyone had sat down, the recruitment organizers slowly handed out envelops to every girl, which would list the sororities that had invited them back. There was no chance that we would have no names in our envelopes, because those girls got informed that they weren`t welcome back the night before. So, when I opened my envelope I knew that at least one group thought I was good enough. I had my hopes high for a certain sorority and I was pretty positive that they liked me, but I was faced with disappointment as I opened my envelope. The one group that I felt I had belonged in had rejected me, and the one group that I had dreaded were at the top of my list. Now, I was lucky, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Determining Enthalpy Change of a Displacement Reaction Determining an enthalpy change of a displacement reaction Aim: To determine the enthalpy change for the displacement reaction between zinc powder and copper (II) sulphate solution. Zn (s) + Cu2+ (aq) в†’ Cu2+ (s) + Zn2+ (aq) Theory: For the displacement reaction, an excess amount of zinc powder is added to the measured amount of aqueous copper (II) sulphate. The temperature change over a period of time has to be measured and thus, the enthalpy change for the reaction can be measured. The equation of the above reaction is: Zn (s) + Cu2+ (aq) в†’ Cu2+ (s) + Zn2+ (aq) Apparatus: * * Safety spectacles * Polystyrene cup with lid * Pipette, 25 cm3 * Pipette filler * Weighing bottle * Spatula * Balance * Thermometer,... When the zinc powder was added to the copper (II) sulphate solution and stirred, it was hard to observe the pattern of the colour change because the polystyrene cup as covered with a lid. At the end of the experiment when the lid was removed, it was found out that the blue colour of the copper (II) sulphate solution has faded away. It was turned to pale grey and there were some precipitates present. It was the zinc powder that was in excess to ensure that the copper (II) sulphate solution could react fully with the zinc powder. The colour of the precipitate was black and were quite small in size, so it was a bit hard to distinguish between the zinc powder present and the copper formed by the displacement reaction because copper formed should be reddish brown is colour which is also a dark colour and thus two dark colours were hard to be distinguished. • 11. Song Of Solomon Father Son Relationship Father and Son s Helluva Piss Similarities and Differences In Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison illustrates the relationship between two Macon Dead s, father and son. Throughout the novel, Macon II and Macon III, better known as Milkman, have bouts of conflict and reconciliation, and with each interaction their similarities and differences are gradually revealed. However, there is one image which reveals truths about both characters without any interaction. Set decades apart, both father and son are set in parallel scenes, urinating in the wilderness, in the open air. Perhaps small and seemingly unimportant, but these actions and images can be unpacked further than face value; subtle details planted by Morrison can be used to reveal both the similar and different character traits of Macon and Milkman. ... (34) At the surface level, readers might only believe that this slight difference was caused by contrasting circumstances. But the question can be asked: what s the difference between Macon making his own decision, versus Milkman begging for permission? • 13. The s The Egg And The Sperm The Construction and Use of Nature for Authority One common perception of nature is that it is something raw, untouched by human civilization. This point of view suggests that humans are completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). By associating the egg with feminine traits and the sperm with masculine traits, scientists make these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being a franchisee of Jergens in Lebanon, MADINA GROUP tried to launch Jergens products into the Lebanese market, but this launching did not succeed as it was expected to be and that s because it was hard that MADINA GROUP manage all these different services and activities at one time, after all the company was growing and managing it was becoming more and more difficult and complicated, that s why we can say that the first launching was a failure in the Lebanese markets. So they decided to create a special department which will be concerned only about marketing, selling and everything related to cosmetics only, and therefore MADINA COSMETICS was born in the year 2001 trying to re launch its Jergens products in Lebanon. MADINA COSMETICS imports all Jergens products from Dubai, under American supervision and observation, where Jergens has a manufacturing company, which is responsible to cover the demand in all the Middle East area, so they are their suppliers. Mindful of the need to earn money for tuition during the summer months, Vern, Teck, and Bonnie, a college friend of theirs, journeyed to Minneapolis, where they could apply for summer work at Glacier National Park. They received an interview from a park representative that just happened to be an alumnus of their college. The representative hired the three coeds for a job at which they would each earn $17.35 in a two week pay period as laundresses. Delighted by the prospect of working at Glacier National Park, they accepted the job offer and reported to work as scheduled. While at Glacier, the three collegians earned additional money by volunteering to work extra hours as substitute waitresses, a job at which they obtained a good share of their compensation through tips. On one occasion, while serving three elderly ladies, Vern spilled most of their soup on the way to the table. Since she considered elderly ladies poor tippers, she didn t bother to replenish the soup and served them the partially filled bowls. She regretted her misdeed when each of the ladies left her a quarter, huge tips in that era. During their time off from the laundry, if they couldn t obtain work as waitresses, the three coeds hitchhiked around the park to view and marvel at nature s wonders. Apple s iPad weighs in at 1.05 pounds with a 9.7 inch display which gives the user a much bigger screen with very little weight difference. Both the iPad Air and the HDX 8.9 contain dual speakers. Shows like Scandal made me think that a campaign manager could point to a graph to show why X strategy works best. When looking at the research this week over yard signs and after class discussion, I was surprised at how untrue that can be. As I ve mentioned in previous papers, measuring certain treatments can be difficult with how many factors have to be controlled for, and trying to find ways to measure intangible things like impact of yard signs on voter turnout and more. This issue makes good research especially interesting, like that performed by Green et al. These researchers performed 4 different experiments, treating a different number of precincts each time. They treated areas in upstate New York, Albany, Fairfax County, Virginia, and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Different treatments had different salience levels, as well as placement and type of sign. Some signs were true yard signs, others were road signs. The experiences that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state of Washington to living inside stonewallsin a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room as I look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless communication like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll and the sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as we knew that it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward and a gloomy day turned upside down as we broke through the crowds into a vast sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in the world for that moment. The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had changed dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very much like a dog kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain those that came before us had it much worst. • 24. Film Is Not Yet Rated Essay This Film Is Not Yet Rated brings up many issues against Motion Pictures Association of America s rating system. I am in favor of the issues brought up in this film as it seems that some ratings that the MPAA s rating board give out do not always follow a concrete rule. For example, movies that contained scenes with homosexuals having sex with each other received an NC 17 rating, compared to other movies that have similar scenes, but with heterosexuals instead received an R rating. In the end, it is still two people having sex with each other and should not really be differentiated by their sex or gender. The individual rating types are also not a good portrayal of the movie as a whole. Bully was a perfect example of this. Though religion may be that which determines the goal, it has, nevertheless, learned from science, in the broadest sense, what means will contribute to the attainment of the goals it has set up. But science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. Accordingly, a religious person is devout in the sense that he has no doubt of the significance and loftiness of those super personal objects and goals which neither require nor are capable of rational foundation. They exist with the same necessity and matter of factness as he himself. In this sense religion is the age old endeavour of mankind to become clearly and completely conscious of these values and goals and constantly to strengthen and extend their effect. If one conceives of religion and science according to these definitions then a conflict between them appears impossible. For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be, and outside of its domain value judgments of all kinds remain necessary. Religion, on the other hand, deals only with evaluations of human thought and action: it cannot justifiably speak of facts and relationships between facts. According to this interpretation the well known conflicts between religion and science in the past must all be ascribed to a misapprehension of the situation which has been described. The main change occurring today is the Federal Reserve s control on monetary policy which affects the interest rates and money supply all caused by the buying or selling of government bonds. The Federal Reserve needs to raise interest rates because they have remained relatively slow by historical standards (Binyamin Appelbaum, July 7, 2017). However, the inflationrate and rate of growth in GDP have been relatively low, restraining the Fed from raising the rates too high. This is exactly what the Fed conducted for this month. The interest rate can only be changed by the Fed changing the money supply in the money market. The Fed has to watch how much they increase interest rates, The Committee will carefully monitor actual and expected inflation developments relative to its symmetric inflation goal (FOMC, June 14, 2017). The job of the Fed is to influence the interest rate but there is a dilemma concerning how much the Fed can actually raise it. The growth of the economy has been slow, along with low inflation just below 2% the FOMC released, with two of their main goals for the year being maximum employment and price stability being a 2% inflation rate(FOMC, June 14, 2017). The next step of the Fed is explained by Hall and Lieberman writing, To prevent or address unwanted changes in aggregate expenditure, the Fed can change its interest rate target, adjusting the money supply as needed to reach it (Hall and Lieberman). Some of the finest musicians including Frescobaldi, Marlo Mazzocchi, Savioni and Carissimi were active in Rome at this time. Another incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by Rossi s works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. In 1641, Ottavio Castelli sent Cardinal Richelieu a copy of Ferito un cavaliere, (a Wounded Knight) recommending it to Jules Mazarin. Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by this time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant downward motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence became so strongly associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or further embellishments was not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the lament to be heard and identified. The ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the Queen of Sweden lament seems to be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she sings in a sort of emotional frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! Workplace Incivility: I don t have time to be nice. Unlike aggressive, violent, and abusive workplaces, where the intent to cause harm is apparent, incivility takes on more ambiguous forms, where the perceptions of the instigator, target, and observer(s), must factor together to determine intent (Andersson, 1999). General incivility, as a primary precursor to a toxic workplace, can be described as rude behavior, or a disregard for others within the organization, stemming from a lack of recognition, or ignorance, of co workers emotions and values, often taking form in deviance as a protest of dissatisfaction (Kelloway, 2010), and leads to a downward spiral of malcontent. After defeating Spain in Cuba and in the Philippines in 1898, the U.S. purchased the Philippines, Puerto Rico and several other islands from the Spanish. However, the Filipinos had been fighting a bloody revolution against Spain since 1896 and had no intention of becoming a colony of another imperialist power. In February of 1899, fighting broke out between the occupying American Army and the Filipino forces. The basic causes of the Philippine American Warcan be found in the U.S. government s quest for an overseas empire and the desire of the Filipino people for freedom. • 37. Crime And Hate Crimes Hate crimes are criminal infractions in which the victim is targeted due to his or her actual or perceived demographic status, that is, their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin. Unlike many other violent crimes, hate crimes have an effect on both the immediate target and the communities of which the individuals are a member. As such, research (Herek, Gillis, Cogan, 1999; McDevitt, Balboni, Garcia, Gu, 2001) has shown that victims of violent hate crimes may suffer from more psychological distress, that is, depression, stress, anger, anxiety, among other psychological related concerns more than victims of other violent crimes. The purpose of this paper is to explore a subtopic of forensic psychology that is not commonly discussed, that is, bias crimes or hate crimes. In order to explore this topic, an examination of several aspects related to it will ensue, including a detailed review of the effects hate crimes have on victims, the effects hate crimes have on communities, people who are risk of being victims, the perpetrators of hate crimes (whether they are individuals or part of hate groups), an overall inquiry of hate motivated offending as well as the different types, and lastly, addressing hate crimes and potential solutions. For this reason, the main question of focus for this paper, then, is why otherwise non violent people commit violent offenses towards certain groups (i.e. minority groups) as well as the effects that follow for the victims. Motivation and Typology With regard to hate motivated offenses, research on offender motivation remains sparse, partially due to the relative infrequency with which these crimes are reported, and to a lesser degree, an offended is identified, however, it is important to explore whether these offenses differ from other similar crimes. Based on interviews with police officials, victims, and several hate crime offenders, Levin and McDevitt (1993) developed a typology that identified three primary motivations and of which were later adopted by law enforcement: offenders who committed their crimes for the excitement or the thrill, offenders who saw themselves as defending their turf, and finally a small group of offenders ... • 51. What Was The Influence Of Foreign Films In The 1940 s In the early 1940 s, foreign films were made and created an important impact to filmmaking all around the world. Foreign films allowed viewers to see different cultures and traditions of other countries. Most of these films were shot in black and white with subtitles to go along against the background. They were sometimes grainy and did not have as good sound quality as Hollywood films had because they were produced with such a small budget. This transition of new camera techniques and editing began to end the Production Code era and started what was known as the neorealism movement in Italy. Films with subtitles are not very mainstream nowadays, although, people loved foreign films with subtitles post war because mostly everyone was reading newspapers, letters and books during that generation. • 52. Plate Tectonics Video Analysis The first video was on plate tectonics, the building blocks of earth. The focus was on the interior workings of the earth and it described the movement of the earth and the process of redistribution. The earth is made up of several surfaces and the plates are rigid slabs of solid rock that move around the earths crust and upper part of the mantel. They wrap around the globe like a net and interact at boundaries, such as land and ocean. There are three types of place boundaries, convergent, divergent and transform. Convergent boundaries are regions that develop when two tectonic plates collide. The area surrounding the collision becomes mountainous as the plates buckle. This happens through a process called subduction. Despite the difference in structure, both of these minerals are made from the same substance, pure carbon. Silicates are minerals that contain oxygen and silicon. These two elements can be found in 90% of the earths minerals. While they do not produce the beauty of diamonds or the wealth of gold, they are used in the making of construction material. The element in silicon is a common ingredient in many products in the computing industry. These two videos were a great introduction into how the earth works. The idea that there is constant movement within and underneath the earth s crust can be taken for granted. The 1st video gave a great illustration of how the earth moves and shifts. The second went a little deeper into what makes up the earth. As a society it is easy to take our resources for granted, but when it comes down to it, we are an interdependent system. The earth needs us and we need the earth s resources to survive as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
