Discount and Hawkins
Discount and Hawkins Case
Case Synopsis
The subject matter of the case is presented as a negotiation between a real estate developer,
Hawkins, and a possible anchor tenant, Discount Marketplace. Both parties are represented by
professional negotiators: Myra Hart is representing the Hawkins Company and Genia is
representing the Discount Marketplace. The Hawkins Company is a real estate developer, who is
operating across UK, offering different types of services, such as: Mortgages, Energy Performance
Certificates, Sales and Lettings. They are interested in having Discount Marketplace as a tenant in a
proposed shopping center. The Discount Marketplace is an innovative national retailer with the
main activity focused on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Developer wished that the Retailer would deal only with soft goods, and asked them to use
same product mix for all locations around the country. The proposal was declined because the
Retailer felt it was limiting to deal with only soft goods. Retailer wanted to be free in selecting
the type of goods and services. Their argument was that they needed to be more flexible
regarding their product mix in order to achieve innovation and to follow their advertising
strategy. Also the Retailer didn t agree to use the same product mix across country because their
main activity was based around a strategy of adapting the product mix. In order to get to an
agreement the Developer suggested limiting the activity to some percentage of the operation area.
They offered a limit of 10 15% for trial. The Retailer accepted the offer and issue was solved.
2. Operating Covenant Developer s concern about the contract duration was that the Discount
Marketplace would operate for only as long as the business would be viable. Their aspiration level
was to sign the contract for a period of minimum 15 years and their soft constrain was to sign the
contract for a minimum of 10 years. Developer needed to be sure that the retailer would perform
the best they can and they needed to be safe in case the Marketplace wanted to make sudden
changes after signing the contract, like changing the location too soon. The Retailer s aspiration
level was to have the contract

Decolonization Of India Dbq Analysis
In the years leading to full decolonization, both Asian and African nations achieved independence
during the mid 20th century. With the help of peace and violence, these nations became
decolonized. In Asian areas, India was prominent to serve economic balance and independence.
Mahatma Gandhi believed that with economic independence, Indiawould be have an uplift within
every individual. Mahatma Ghandi spoke that their decolonization must not imitate the wrong, for
example, the Nazi rule in Germany or the ones in Britian. Basically, the cause of wanting
independence in India was due to the British. The consequence of leaving the British s ways is that
some help/aid would now be gone and India must now find their own way of developing the

Within Africa, nations were trying to achieve independence with some achieving it easially.
Most of Africa s nations share a consequence: weakness. This weakness, before decolonization,
Patrice Lumumba, who is the Prime Minster of Congo, believes that Congo was prematurealy
mocked, weakened, and partially dominated. Patrice believes that just because of their skin
color, that was not an reason to be treated like the way they are treated now (Doc 4). Nkrumah
Kwame, who was the president of the first nation to be decolonized in Africa, assumes the fact
that many other African nations were struggling, weak, and helpless. With the fragmentation
continuing, the outcome of the nations would be disastrous. He sites that South Africa is very
wealth, but South Africa is also weak. This shows that hope is currently not on thier side, as a
whole (Doc 5). Nelson Mandela was one of the largest known people that made a difference in
Africa. Nelson, who was later tried due to revolts, believes that what he did for his people was
not wrong. Infact, he believes that the whites are causing the problems againsts the blacks.
Nelson tries to stop using peaceful revolts, but was later accused of planning to sabotage. In the
situation he is in, it was hard to gain decolonization, but it was later gained (Doc 6). Assia Djebar,
who grew up in Algeria which was still trying to decolonize, figured that new pictures form while
decolonization was in

Supply Chain Management
This book reflects the shift in interest to supply chain. We have included a chapter on MRP, but
have not included scheduling in the book. Further we have included chapters on strategic sourcing
and logistics in the book. Detailed internal

operations topics related to facility layout have been deemphasized and materials on job design
and work measurement are not included. The book is divided into 14 concise chapters. Our
intent was to design a book that could be used cover to cover in an introductory Operations and
Supply Chain Management course. In developing each chapter we considered how students
would view the material. All chapters are approximately the same in length. Our attempt is to
balance managerial concepts and analysis. This balance does not work out perfectly as some
topics are intrinsically more managerial and others more analytical . Each chapter includes
material that should work well pedagogically in a number of ways. For those who want to
emphasize analysis, problems are developed in each chapter and solved problems included at the
end of each chapter. The short cases at the end of each chapter all require some analysis and
usually have some managerial issues that can be discussed as well. The

The Overfishing Of Our Oceans
Overfishing
The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains about eighty
percent of the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world depend on seafood heavily as a
primary source of food. Americans alone consumed as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per
person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish
are going extinct. At this particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the
earth is expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing of our
oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species of fish to become
extinct.
According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when humans killed off
massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic
cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s.
Theses cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the
United States passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA).
This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the United States
shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress also established eight
regional councils with representation from the coastal states and fishery stakeholders. Their jobs
were to come up

America s Rights Of Utah
It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they
practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was
Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery.
(Republican Platform of 1856)
By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy
laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and
the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without
statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah
War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S.
could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the
territory status of Utah. (Davis)
In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and
more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in
Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000
to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting
statehood to the mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to
balance out the population. Congress turned out to be accurate. Utah s population at

Discuss The Impact Of Globalization On The Automobile...
The definition of globalization is how us people increase interaction with others on a global scale
and integrate knowledge and ideas such as culture or economics to other parts of the world. The
human race is constantly on the move. It helps get everyone together and in the process exchange
information from one place to another. For the past century, the invention of automobiles has been
credited for providing one of the greatest options of personal mobility as well as one of the main
inventions to substantially shorten the distance of our world. As time goes on and technology
becomes more advanced, the globalization of the auto industry assists with manufacturing better
cars and making them more accessible around the world. However, the system isn t flawless.
Through globalization, the auto industry has a significant effect on economies around the world.
Automakers are constantly in a battle between one another, either with a foreign country or in the
same region in the global market to produce and sell a better car to earn a profit. Manufacturers
compete in various categories from vehicle performance to price and everything in between. The
profit earned through the sales of various car models can be invested towards increasing
employment ranging from engineers and designers to the workers assembling the vehicles. On the
other hand, the boom of the auto industry through globalization has caused a negative effect on the
environment. With automobileproduction increases to

Gender Roles And Social Cognitive Theory
Women model their behavior after the female protagonists they see in films because they see them
being successful in love and wish for the same. Women modeling this behavior are an example of
social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from
different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society
(Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by
social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic
expectations of men and relationships.
The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some
understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they
should behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the
media gives society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood
s goal is to entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but
viewers often don t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale
love. Hollywood has created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model
their ideals for a relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed,
ultimately causing themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters
(Green).

Comparing Hamlet And The Godfather
Hamlet Essay Hamlet a play written by William Shakespeare is solely revolved around the
seeking justice. Hamlet is a tragic play, which involves the Prince of Denmark (Hamlet) seeking
revenge for his father s death. Hamlet was published in the early sixteen hundred s, and after that
there has been a lot of storylines of movies, books, and TV shows that are derived from the play.
One of the most similar pieces of work to Hamletis The Godfather the movie directed by Francis
Ford Coppola in 1972. The Godfather is a prominent crime film about a war hero of World War 2
named Michael Corleone, who openly volunteered to take control of his father s (Vito Corleone)

rethinking decides to organize a fake meeting with Sollozzo where he will kill him. After, a few
minutes into their meeting Michael Corleone excuses himself to go to the restroom and returns
with a pistol and drills two bullets right on his head. In contrast, Hamlet uses incredible amounts
of procrastination to kill his father s murderer Claudius. Topchayan also notes, also notices the
flaw of the main character, and has her own theory of the reason what Hamlet did. In her article,
she shows the trouble, the impracticality, of a person who is not a natural born killer to commit
murder to seek his revenge. (281 288) Despite, unnatural capability Hamlet still kills King
Claudius by stabbing him with a poisonous sword and gagging him with a poisonous
beverage.Hamlet and Michael Corleone both became very isolated and started being dishonest to
their lovers as their plot to killing the villain evolved. Ophelia, was the lover of Prince Hamlet,
daughter of Polonius, and the sister of Laertes had a very obedient soul. In the very beginning of
the play, Hamlet becomes aware about his father s death and quickly dissolves

subject. It keeps me motivated during the classes and definitely makes learning easy. Make sure
you set your expectations and be clear on what it is you want to obtain. It is not easy staying on
track because everyday life events get in the way and that can sway your decision to do the right
thing, but do not let that discourage you, an education is a great benefit and will open up all forms
of opportunities in your future. Personal responsibility normally refers to accepting responsibility
for your own actions (Lazare, 2005) even thought pointing the finger at someone else it an easy
way out, (for example, an alcoholic will blame the company they keep for influencing them to
drink) we do have a responsibility to take care of ourselves and our children. Experiencing
parenthood is not an easy task, especially if you are a single parent. Regardless of shortcomings
every parent has a moral obligations to feed, bathe, clothe, and provide a roof over our children s

How Junk Food Can End Obesity
In David Freedman s article, How Junk Food Can End Obesity (2013), he begins by discussing
his endeavors to search for wholesome food. He continues to come across food items that claim
to be healthy and void of processed junk, but all he finds are items high in calories or the expense
is too much for an average American. He argues that wholesome foods are actually just as bad, if
not even worse, than junk foodand that the Big Food industry has the technology available to make
food healthier, but still retain its appeal. Freedman mentions continuously throughout his article that
Americans who are most at risk of becoming obese are those who cannot afford healthy foods,
completely defeating the purpose of the wholefoods movement. He... Show more content on

The solution, in his view, is to replace Big Food s engineered, edible evil through public
education and regulation with fresh, unprocessed, local, seasonal, real food. (Freedman). Pollan
has increased spite for nutritionism, which is the idea behind packing healthier ingredients into
processed foods which is what Freedman is advocating for. Pollan s view is much the same as
some scientists, food activists, nutritionists, and celebrity chefs. He has had such an influence
that the Silicon Valley caters to the wholefoods movement and the progression to familiarizing
the masses with simpler eating habits (Freedman). However, being an area full of technological
endeavors, the Silicon Valley sees technology as the culprit as well. The New York Times
Magazine s food writer, Mark Bittman also shares views with Pollan. In fact, Bittman has even
written a cookbook on how to eat better. While most are more wholesome there are still few
recipes that are high in fat. One of his recipes consists of corn being sautГ©ed in bacon fat and then
topped with bacon (Freedman).
Freedman argues that technology would help revolutionize the American diet. He supports this with
his experiences to different restaurants and how good the food was, how much it cost him, and
then whether or not the food itself is actually good for the body. His experiences allows the reader
to connect with Freedman, by showing that he also struggles with the never ending fight to eat

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest
places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around
them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can t see them (Rowling 187). A major factor
driving the action and theme of J.K. Rowling s third book, Harry Potterand the Prisoner of
Azkaban, is the element of fear represented by the dementors upon the magical community and the
terror felt when witches and wizards were threatened by the Dementor s horrific Kiss. In the scene
(246 248) where Harry Potter and Professor Lupin are having a drink at the Three Broomsticks
tavern, Harry decides to ask about the dementors and the Dementor s Kiss. This scene is important
because it ties together all the previous information about the dementors, and emphasizes how
negatively they epitomize the forces of evil in the magical community, in which Harry Potter and
other witches and wizards live. Harry says to Professor Lupin What is under the dementor s hood?
(Rowling 246), the professor s answer is both truthful and frightening. Professor Lupin mentions
that the dementors are so evil that even the Muggle community fears their presence, but cannot see
them or know what kind of creatures they really are, and therefore, the Muggle community is only
aware of the strange cold feeling that makes them afraid of unseen entities. However, the wizarding

Analysis Of Kierkegaard s Fear And Trembling
There is no philosophical individual if there is no leap towards word of mouth. Kierkegaard
exemplifies such mocking rhapsodies in his piece Fear and Trembling . Scattered within are
multiple insults shot at individuals whom he wills deserving of it. Breezily crucifying ill mannered
beliefs, and rendering hopeless their application, Kierkegaard makes his first deprecatory stop at
the gate of objective and speculative philosophy. Objective thinkers are swerved by Kierkegaard
as he states When a cellar dweller plays this game everyone thinks it is ridiculous...ridiculous for
the greatest man in the world to do it. (Kierkegaard 32). A conclusion can be drawn that the
philosopher sees objective values as a tool with which existence can be understood an incorrect
and confusing fantasy for who is to write or complete such a system ? (Kierkegaard 29).
Declaring the objective thinkers self equating of one to the whole, a method attainable by any
man and comical in his eyes. His criticism of the aforementioned scholars doesn t stop here as he
follows with a like minded observation of objective Christianity. He preludes that individuals
seeking to understand Christianity through objective evidence, are not true believers for Herein
lies the scholar s exalted equanimity as well as the comedy of his parrot like pedantry.
(Kierkegaard 34) The man who attains faith in this manner must remain mindful of the dragon at
the door which waits to devour it (Kierkegaard 35). Kierkegaard

Taking a Look at Addison s Disease
Autoimmune diseases are very common. There are over 23.5 million Americans who suffer
from such diseases. Women of child bearing age and people with a family history of
autoimmune diseases are more likely to be affected by these diseases. Addison s can also occur
in dogs. This type of disease is one that is caused by the attack of healthy cells and tissue. The
immune system can t tell the difference between the healthy tissue and the bad one and it attacks
the normal one creating an autoimmune disorder. Autoimmune disorders can destroy body tissue,
change the function of an organ, or cause abnormal growth in an organ. Parts of the body that are
usually affected by these disorders are joints, muscles, blood vessels, endocrine glands, or other
organs. There is a wide variety of autoimmune diseases. More than 80 kinds of diseases have been
discovered.
One common autoimmune disease is Addison s disease. Addison s occurs when your body creates
antibodies which attach onto your adrenal cortex and destroys the cells which create cortisol, and
aldosterone. This may not seem to be a big deal but, it is life threatening. Cortisol is a hormone
which responds to stress, increases blood sugar, and suppresses the immune system. . It also helps
regulate the metabolism. When there is a lack of cortisol you can have symptoms such as diarrhea,
inability to handle stress, vomiting, loss of appetite, and much more. Aldosterone works with blood
pressure, and helps regulate the salt and water

When Robert the Bruce ascended the throne in 1306 the defiance and animosity toward the
English became apparent with the battles and land claims. Bruce s ascension to the throne came
at the murder John Comyn in Greyfriars Church, Dumfries in February 1306. This incident
before his crowning in March which he was excommunicated by the Pope for the argument and
killing of a Scottish noble in a church. The ascension of the throne came with a convoluted
history of the Bruce family strong arm approaches to gain power and reputation against other
tribes and the quest to rule the kingdom of Scotland. Sources under Robert the Bruce came to
acknowledge the bias against William Wallace similar to how the English pinned him as a
robber, ruffian, and cruel leader of Independence. This notion of the Bruce prejudices and
censorship add to the negative perceptions toward the mythology of Scottish leaders and their
control over literature at the time of their reign. A series of military victories between 1310 and
1314 won Bruce a majority of control over Scotland. The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 against
the Edward II English forces solidified his position as the rightful king of Scotland. The military
victories fueled more intervention in other states on the British Isles with the boosted moral of the

In Defense Of Bottled Water By Thomas J. Lauria
Bottled Water Versus Cost According to The Water Project, Bottles used to package water take
over 1,000 years to bio degrade and if incinerated, they produce toxic fumes. It is estimated that
over 80% of all single use water bottles used in the U.S. simply become litter ( Bottled Water is
Wasteful ). This fact is not the only reason I believe that bottled waterdoes not outweigh its costs.
Although statistics show that bottled water is efficient, there are many reasons to believe
otherwise. As aforementioned, there are explanations to believe that bottled water does
outweigh its repercussions. Thomas J. Lauria, author of In Defense of Bottled Water , states,
Bottled water provides a healthy choice when tap water is not accessible ( In Defense of Bottled
Water ). In this article, Lauria states that bottled water is a topic of great interest. He goes on to
discuss that in the United States, Adults consume 450 calories a day from beverages and sixty
eight percent of those twenty years old and older are classified as overweight or obese, bottled
water provides a healthy choice when tap water is not accessible, preferred, or convenient ( In
Defense of Bottled Water ). Sure, this is fact and definitely a benefit to bottled water. Lauria
continues to say that if bottled water is not offered then people will be more likely to choose soda,
juices, or options similar to those. He says that banning bottled water will urge people to consume
unhealthy beverages because

Odysseus Gods Relationship
Relationship between gods and human: An assessment of The Odysseus in the Homer s epic In the
ancient Greeks culture, the belief that was directed towards the goddesses and gods was strong,
and they influenced most of their daily operations. The activities that were conducted during their
daily endeavours were coined on the intervention of the gods and goddesses. With this strong faith
in gods, the Greeks focused on giving reverence, offering respect, and holding them with high
regards when they are facing issues. They established strong emotional and spiritual relationships
with these gods and goddesses, although there was no link between the two physically. When

Comprehension Is The Purpose Of Reading
According to Thompkins (2016) comprehension is the purpose of reading, students need to
understand and enjoy what they are reading to learn from it. It s the creative process of activating
prior knowledge, to explore and apply what is read. For example, if students need to know how to
play a new board game, they read the instructions for direction. Comprehension implies different
levels of thinking: from literal to inferential, then critical and evaluative. Literal is the first level of
comprehension, where the reader connects with the text, examine it and capturing the details, main
ideas, similarities and differences, is the what, why, who, when, how process. Prior knowledge is

So, the educator needs to provide books that are at students reading level, use of read aloud for
challenging books, also promote reteach and reread strategies.
Instructional strategies and Activities Per Thompkins (2016), comprehension strategies are careful
conducts that students use to understand what they read and motivate them to be active in the
reading process. Strategies that include thinking are known as cognitive, and strategies that help
children reflect on own thinking are called metacognition. An example of cognitive strategy is
prediction as it is a thinking process, instead monitoring own reading is a metacognition strategy.
Instructional strategies and activities that develops comprehension skills are
Graphic and semantic organizers: they help students organize thoughts of a topic concept to broader
concepts; It will help children understand and connect with the text, it will help also, to be more
organized when writing a summary, and students can use visuals to examine.
Connection strategies that correlate text to background knowledge as of text to self, text to world,
and text to text. Text to self when the content connects with personal life; text to world when the
passage relates to things that are known of world from school or other resources. The last
connection, text to text is a strategy used to make connection with other known books, with
challenging critical thinking.

The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism

The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism
Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the
proof; and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And
let him continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have
reached the uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given
which is the happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464).
Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more
prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the
cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help
the children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do
we spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep
inside we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical
egoism at first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical
egoism is the moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness.
Ethical egoism is the ethical view that one ought to do whatever and only whatever is in one s own
maximum interest, benefit, advantage, or

an outrage all around the world for many years.
The use of PEDs not only affects the athlete that chooses to use them, but also the athletes they are

It is important for athletes to maintain a good reputation in competition, because they need to

Pork Production in the United States
In recent years, pork production has become a big business in the United States. In the past, the
raising of swine was handled by small farming operations. Today, however, pigs are raised in large
factories, some of which have the capacity to hold more than 100,000 animals (Lynch 14). This has
created problems in terms of handling large amounts of excremental waste. These problems recently
became evident in the state of North Carolina. A few years ago, North Carolina became the primary
location for large scale hog raising operations. In particular, large companies like Coharie Hog Farm
and Murphy Family Farms began locating along the eastern side of Interstate 95. This area was
found to be suitable for hog farming because it is a coastal plain where the land is flat, the rivers
wide and human habitation scattered ( The Brown Lagoon 24). The state of North Carolina was
also favorable for large scale swine operations because there was a lack of laws regulating that type
of business. In order to ensure their ability to operate without being heavily regulated, the major
swine companies in North Carolina donated huge amounts of money to the leading politicians in
the state. Thus, the major swine farmers were able to gain a sense of immunity as a result of their
powerful political connections. At the same time, the state s leading politicians tended to encourage
such operations because they were providing employment and thus improving the overall economic

What Defines Human Nature And The Hierarchy Of Human...
What defines human nature and the hierarchy of human relations? In this paper, I will argue that
Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard
(rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although
Beauvoir s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what
term designates a humanbeing, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female
nature is defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without
man, woman is only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other.
Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents
only the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By
making this assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has
reached the limits of their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and
woman is inconclusive in its stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is
considered feminine, there are some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man
at work is similar to the work ethic of a woman at home. A man would be expected to complete
his work load in a proficient manner and bring home money to the family. A woman would be
expected to care for the family and the home in a proficient and timely

Communication And Language In Babel
Babel, 2006, directed by Alejandro GonzГЎlez IГ±ГЎrritu is a mosaic film about an accident in
Morocco which connects four groups of people on three different continents. The word Babel is
derived from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel and basically comes down to one common
language being split into multiple languages causing a confusion in speech (Fairchild, 2017).
According to IГ±ГЎrritu, Babel is about how everyday lives are affected by walls,
miscommunication and barriers (Michael, 2014). However, by not directly referencing the bible
anywhere in the film, there is a sense of ambiguity, giving the audience the space to come to their
own conclusion about what the messages of the film are. This paper will be looking at the themes
of communication, prejudice and western superiority and the idea that humans have more in
common than we realise. These ideas are helped along by film language elements such as nonlinear
narrative, cinematography techniques such as camera angles and close ups and editing techniques
such as parallel editing and match cuts. Communication or lack thereof often leading to confusion
is a major theme raised in the film Babel and is delivered through elements such as narrative,
parallel editing and repetition. Not only do the characters suffer from the inability to communicate
due to their various language barriers but so too do the audience. The filmmakers on various
occasions in particular with the character Chieko have refrained from using

circumstances such as these are unfortunate, they fail to recognize the dangers developed societies

Due to the immense population growth, the demand for crops increased significantly over a short
period of time. Farmers had a difficult time keeping up with this ever growing demand as insects,
fungi, rodents, and other plants challenged the mere existence of their crops. The solution to this
elementary supply versus demand dilemma came in the form of pesticides. The use of pesticides
can be traced back to the time of the Sumerians, an ancient Mesopotamian civilization that used
sulfur to keep vermin at bay about 4,500 years ago (Brouwer and Ervin 7). Historically, pesticide is
a broadly used term. The case study Pesticides, the Chemical Weapon that Kills Life attempts to

undesirable, and which humans called pests and weeds (Fedorov and Yablokov 9). These early
practices of pest control rapidly evolved, as their management played a significant role in the
success of agriculture. Since ancient times, pesticides have developed into synthetic organic
compounds which no longer solely rely on natural resources such as arsenic, mercury, lead, and
nicotine to divert various pests. Pesticides used today may contain chemicals such as DDT,

the novel Blueback, by Tim Winton (1997), the construction of characters are what Winton uses to

It is evident in Blueback, that Abel is very loyal to his family and friends. You can see how Abel is
kind and caring to his mother, Dora and how he is loving to his wife, Stella, when he is older.
Through the novel you can also see that he has a very large friendship with Blueback. When

Just like the bible Greek myths have lots of fantasy stories which people doubt on it. And we can
assume that both Bible and Greek mythology has some stories/ characters that are same and some
stories/ characters can be different. Both of these have a starting point which is the creation of
something. And this is clearly recorded in Genesis 1: 1 2 that In the beginning God created the

target population stage of readiness to change regardless of the behavior of focus.
The North Carolina Healthy Living Standard Course of study has objectives for growth and
development, puberty education, sex education and prevention. Any African American male
attending these schools has been educated about HIV causes and prevention. Since, they know the
benefits of using condom as a protection and even considering changing. To better approach their
behavior change toward condom use, the four most useful constructs are contemplation,
preparation, action and self efficacy.
Although, (NIH, 2007) reports that condoms have reduce HIV Transmission by 87 95 percent.
To get these African American male students from seeing it to exploring condom use as an
option or a benefit is contemplation. However, a Condom Education Program is placed an inner
city high school, whose population is 65 percent Afro American male. NIH reported data is the
goal of the program. The objective is by the end of the year, 45% of Afro American sexual active

The Chemistry And Physic Of Either River Or Lake
I would like to phrase the question in another way, which is how would I determine the
representative sample and then accordingly what the constituents to be sampled?. As
representative sample would be the least number of data points required to give way a statistically
precise picture of the water body being analyzed. The chemistry and physic of either river or lake
is a function of the substances that contact with either in flowing or still water and how long been
there with their exposure to the sunlight or wind. The constituents from varied sources that are
entering or leaving (river/lake) can be a function of the hydrologyand topography system. Water
from sources such as direct/indirect precipitation, surface runofffrom snowmelt, or storm water
from exposed rock or packed soil, or groundwater inflow from the aquifer will react with the soil
or bed/sedimentary rock and dissolved them (as the phenomena knowns weathering
condition). Therefore these variable sources can add a critical deposit into the river or lake
(surface water) constituents. For instance, many lakes and rivers sensitive to acidification due to
the acid precipitation/ mine drainage, or to the atmospheric inputs such as (dust, SO4, NO3, Cl)
leaving no time for neutralization before reaching lakes and rivers. Further, seasonally variation
for the snowmelt, dry period, runoff, discharge can be explained by a plot of chemistry versus
time or discharge depending upon the site. Major cations such as H+ from pH

The Soviet War Of Russia Essay
The Russian military is vastly superior to that of the Baltic States (Estonia, Lithuania, and
Latvia) and Russia has an interest in occupying the Baltic States for strategic and political
reasons. A large minority of the population of the Baltics is ethnically Russian, installed in the
area after Soviet occupation of the Baltics after the Second World War. Also, Russian forces near
the Baltics outnumber Baltic and NATO forces in the area. Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave
between Poland and Lithuania, is the headquarters of Russia s Baltic fleet (Meyer). The desired
military end state for the United States is that Russia is incapable or unwilling to invade the
Baltics, and the Baltics are assured of this. We are interested in how United States military assets
may be brought to bear in order to achieve Baltic security from Russia. We assert that Baltic
security may be enhanced by increasing the presence of United States military forces in the Baltics.
Russia s center of gravity is their military strength relative to the Baltic States and NATO forces
stationed in the area. This center of gravity has the twin critical capabilities of the abilities to invade
the Baltic States, and the ability to intimidate and influence the Baltic population. Russia s critical
requirements are a strong military, their geographic nearness to the Baltics, the element of surprise,
and Nuclear weapons. Of these, their element of surprise and their relative military strength are the

Examples Of Hedonic Pricing Models
Hedonic pricing models are tools used for estimating the value of a good or commodity based on
the premise that price is determined by the both the characteristics of the good being sold and any
external factors effecting it. Since the hedonic model calculates the value of a commodity by
summing the estimated values of its individual characteristics, it is best suited for use with
commodities that are extremely heterogeneous. One example of an extremely heterogeneous
commodity that is well suited to estimation using hedonic pricing models is the real estatemarket.
When we read about the sale of property in the US Real Estate market, for example that a home
in your neighborhood sold for $500,000, we gain limited information about the value of other
properties in the same area. This information is of limited use because every home is
heterogeneous; the homes are of different age, have different numbers of bedroom or bathrooms,
or are located closer to public services. By collecting sufficient samples, a hedonic model will
allow us to turn these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this new model will be to more accurately determine which characteristic of a home
effect the sale price in Springfield so an accurate listing price can be estimated. Failure to
generate an appropriate listing price on the part of a real estate agency can lead to many negative
effects. A house that is priced too highly may not sell, while one that is priced too cheaply may sell
quickly, but cause the seller to take a loss and provide lower commissions. As a result, the
considered model must be able to consistently predict accurate list prices. To ensure the model is
consistent technical issues such as non linearity, heteroskedasticity, and multicollinearity must be
considered so that the assumptions of a multiple linear regression model are not

Essay on Broken Lives
Broken Lives written by Estelle Blackburn is an expository text, which through research has
presented that nineteen year old John Button was wrongfully convicted of killing his seventeen
year old girlfriend Rosemary Anderson in a hit and run. I believe through my reading of Broken
Lives that the key factor of expositorytexts is to explore awkward questions deeply and critically.
In this case who was guilty of killing Rosemary Anderson in a hit and run, John Button or Eric
Edgar Cooke, and the effect of Cooke s crimes and murders had on people.
John Button was a loving, caring, active and an innocent man. John s relationship with girlfriend
Rosemary Anderson was strong. They planed to get married and Rosemary s family accepted John

Eric Cooke was traumatized by the abuse and rejection of his alcoholic father as a child. Domestic
violence was a way of life in the Cooke home. Eric was left alone and neglected because his father s
loathing and abuse . Eric was born with deformities and considered himself as a freak, this being
one of the reasons behind his hatred to everyone. Through the graphic detail of his nightly
prowls and murders we not only dislike Cooke but also blame him for the murder of Rosemary
Anderson. He raised the hatchet and brought it down with all his strength... He raised the hatchet
again and chopped into Brewer ferociously, twelve to thirteen times . Cooke confessed to killing
Rosemary on the day of his execution, saying John Button was innocent. From Eric Cooke s
childhood of abuse and neglect, his deformities and his nightly prowls and murders presented in
Broken Lives. Blackburn has explored Cooke deeply and critically and presents him as being guilty
of killing Rosemary Anderson.
Cooke s disgusting and disturbing crimes affected many people in the small town of Perth in the
nineteen fifties. The books title Broken Lives symbolizes the live which were lost or broken
through Cooke s acts of evil. I believe that the most broken life presented in the text was that of
John Button s. John Button and Rosemary s family had to deal with

Jack London To Build A Fire Analysis
Fire burns red hot, it s a source of warmth and in some cases comfort. In the story To Build a Fire
by Jack London, fire brings new feelings to a numb man every time he makes one. The man
starts out calm and uncaring to his surroundings and the cold, but be the time of the last fire he
built, he was panicking and distraught. As the fire thawed out the man s fingers and toes it also
thawed out his heart and made the man feel more than he ever wanted to. At the beginning of
the man s journey before he made a fire, he was undeterred by the cold, But all this the
mysterious, far reaching hairline trail, the absence of sub from the sky, the tremendous cold, and
the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (London 302). The man
was just as cold on the inside as he was on the outside. He kept his mind clear by staying focused
and observant, Empty as the man s mind was of thoughts, he was keenly observant, and he noticed
the changes in the creeks, the curves and bends and timber jams, and always he sharply noted
where he placed his feet (London 304). By staying focused and observant the man did not have time
to think about the dangerous of his journey.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stamped up and down until the stinging returned into the feet (London 305). This was the
first sign of distress and panic the man showed, it was also the first time he was building a fire.
Once the fire was built the man had time to relax and eat his lunch he was not as uncomfortable
as in the beginning of his quest, When the man had finished, he filled his pipe and took his
comfortable time over a smoke (London 305). The first fire brought on the first flame of panic and
the flame glowed inside until the other fires were

[pic] ZigBee Wireless Mesh Networking for Monitoring Control What is ZigBee? ZigBee is a
consortium of software, hardware and services companies that have developed a common standard
for wireless networking of sensors and controllers. While other wireless standards are concerned
with exchanging large amounts of data, ZigBee is for devices that have smaller throughput needs.
The other driving factors are low cost, high reliability, high security, low battery usage, simplicity
and interoperability with other ZigBee devices. ZigBee can be used in commercial applications
such as building maintenance for monitoring and controlling lights, Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning (HVAC), smoke alarms, fire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one device should fail, the path is automatically rerouted through other nodes on the network.
In this way the networks become self healing . ZigBee uses 128 bit AES encryption algorithms
for a highly secure network. In commercial or industrial settings, hackers might try to perform a
Denial of Lighting, similar to a Denial of Service on internet sites that they hack into. This
might not be done only to be disruptive, but on large buildings in major cities, hackers might be
tempted to black out only some lights in order to spell words or slogans with the remaining
lights. Triggering fire alarms could also be an effective way to get a target out of a building and
in the open in an assassination attempt. Access control through wireless connections might lead
to break ins and burglary in an insecure environment. For these reasons ZigBee has been
designed to have a high level of security. In order for ZigBee to catch on in businesses and homes
it needs to be simple to set up the network and to add new devices. ZigBee networks rely on
simplicity and ease of setup. In most instances a new device is simply synchronized with the
existing network by placing the two devices close together and pressing a button on each device at
the same time. Battery life of a device is an important consideration in the design of the ZigBee
standard. Many devices will have simple inexpensive

Analysis of Acts of Apostle
Chapter one of The Acts of Apostles starts off as describing how Jesus came down from the
clouds and spoke to the people of Jerusalem. Jesus gave the apostles specific commandments to
follow. The apostles questioned him right before he goes back into heaven, asking if he was going
to restore the kingdom back to Israel. Jesus indirectly told them that they would have to wait, and
will know when the time comes. Also, he mentioned whoever is baptized in the Holy Spirit would
be given special privileges. Peter, who was the replacement of Judas and a preacher, began to
preach on what Jesus had to offer to the people. The main points Peter was trying

The Role of Women in Judaism Essay
The Role of Women in Judaism
Some say that the role of women in Judaism has been misrepresented and misunderstood. Today
when people think of women s role in Judaism, they think of them as being of very low
importance. Yet, threw the Halakha (Jewish laws) we are able to see how significant the role of
women is in Judaism. There are many Jewish feminist leaders in today s society. This is because
throughout the years of education and study of Judaism, the women learned that everyone must
be respected. Within Judaism the women are considered to be on a separate level. They are on
the world for one reason, and the men for another. Yet, within the religion they are considered as
equals. In Judaism, God is not viewed as a male or female. ... Show more content on

They can do so privately without having to attend a public service. Most observant Jewish
women usually attend the synagogue on Sabbaths and festival. Yet, their attendance is not a
religious requirement. Therefore they may be regarded and less privileged then the males.
Written in the Jewish scripts, it is understood that the men and women are not allowed to be
together during prayer. In Orthodox Judaism, the men and women are usually in separate
sections of the synagogue, and is often separated by a curtain, or in some cases even a wall. To
the Jewish men, this is not a sexist act. It is solely done, so that the men would not be distracted
by the women s beauty. For some this may seem chauvinistic, and unfair. But, as Judaism evolved,
other segregations were formed. Within many of these new forms of Judaism, the Conservative
and Reform Judaism was created. Both these forms of Judaism see women s role as being very
different then the Orthodox view. However, the basic gender differentiation of traditional laws has
created serious tensions in many sections of the Orthodox community. The Reform movement was
created in the eighteenth century Germany as an attempt to modernize the religion. Within this new
form of Judaism, they have adapted many ideas from Christianity. The rabbi, or maybe even priest,
can be male or female. This allows all females to be counted in all the rituals and prayers. They
have introduced alternative

The Deaths And Causes Of The Black Death
The Black Death is a deadly disease that arrived in Europe by sea October 1347. It was 12 Genoese
trading ships that docked at the Sicilian port of a Messina after their long travels through the
Black Sea. When the people who gathered at the dock was met with a horrific accident. Many
people one the crew was dead and the people who were alive was very ill. They weren t able to
keep food down because of the pain they were enduring, also overcoming a fever. But the weird
thing was that they were covered in mysterious black books that had blood and puss coming from
them. By the time they ordered for the ships to be taking away from the docks it was already too
late so over the next five years the Black Deathwould kill more than 20 million people in Europe
and that s almost в…“ of Europe s population. Indeed, even before the Death ships maneuvered
into port at Messina, numerous Europeans had heard bits of gossip about an Awesome
Epidemic that was cutting a lethal way over the exchange courses of the Close and Far East.
(Ahead of schedule in the 1340s, the illness had struck China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt.) Be
that as it may, they were hardly prepared for the ghastly reality of the Dark Demise. In men and
ladies alike, the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio expressed, toward the start of the disease,
certain swellings, either on the crotch or under the armpits... waxed to the bigness of a typical
apple, others to the measure of an egg, some more and some less, and

Discount and Hawkins Discount and Hawkins Case Case Synopsis The subject matter of the case is presented as a negotiation between a real estate developer, Hawkins, and a possible anchor tenant, Discount Marketplace. Both parties are represented by professional negotiators: Myra Hart is representing the Hawkins Company and Genia is representing the Discount Marketplace. The Hawkins Company is a real estate developer, who is operating across UK, offering different types of services, such as: Mortgages, Energy Performance Certificates, Sales and Lettings. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Developer wished that the Retailer would deal only with soft goods, and asked them to use same product mix for all locations around the country. The proposal was declined because the Retailer felt it was limiting to deal with only soft goods. Retailer wanted to be free in selecting the type of goods and services. Their argument was that they needed to be more flexible regarding their product mix in order to achieve innovation and to follow their advertising strategy. Also the Retailer didn t agree to use the same product mix across country because their main activity was based around a strategy of adapting the product mix. In order to get to an agreement the Developer suggested limiting the activity to some percentage of the operation area. They offered a limit of 10 15% for trial. The Retailer accepted the offer and issue was solved. 2. Operating Covenant Developer s concern about the contract duration was that the Discount Marketplace would operate for only as long as the business would be viable. Their aspiration level was to sign the contract for a period of minimum 15 years and their soft constrain was to sign the contract for a minimum of 10 years. Developer needed to be sure that the retailer would perform the best they can and they needed to be safe in case the Marketplace wanted to make sudden changes after signing the contract, like changing the location too soon. Mahatma Gandhi believed that with economic independence, Indiawould be have an uplift within every individual. Mahatma Ghandi spoke that their decolonization must not imitate the wrong, for example, the Nazi rule in Germany or the ones in Britian. Within Africa, nations were trying to achieve independence with some achieving it easially. Most of Africa s nations share a consequence: weakness. This weakness, before decolonization, Patrice Lumumba, who is the Prime Minster of Congo, believes that Congo was prematurealy mocked, weakened, and partially dominated. Patrice believes that just because of their skin color, that was not an reason to be treated like the way they are treated now (Doc 4). Nkrumah Kwame, who was the president of the first nation to be decolonized in Africa, assumes the fact that many other African nations were struggling, weak, and helpless. With the fragmentation continuing, the outcome of the nations would be disastrous. He sites that South Africa is very wealth, but South Africa is also weak. This shows that hope is currently not on thier side, as a whole (Doc 5). Nelson Mandela was one of the largest known people that made a difference in Africa. Nelson, who was later tried due to revolts, believes that what he did for his people was not wrong. Infact, he believes that the whites are causing the problems againsts the blacks. Nelson tries to stop using peaceful revolts, but was later accused of planning to sabotage. In the situation he is in, it was hard to gain decolonization, but it was later gained (Doc 6). • 7. The Overfishing Of Our Oceans Overfishing The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains about eighty percent of the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world depend on seafood heavily as a primary source of food. Americans alone consumed as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing of our oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species of fish to become extinct. According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when humans killed off massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA). This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the United States shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress also established eight regional councils with representation from the coastal states and fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Republicans stated that it was Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery. (Republican Platform of 1856) By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of Utah. (Davis) In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. • 10. Gender Roles And Social Cognitive Theory Women model their behavior after the female protagonists they see in films because they see them being successful in love and wish for the same. Women modeling this behavior are an example of social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society (Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic expectations of men and relationships. The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they should behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the media gives society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood s goal is to entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but viewers often don t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale love. Hollywood has created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model their ideals for a relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed, ultimately causing themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters (Green). He argues that wholesome foods are actually just as bad, if not even worse, than junk foodand that the Big Food industry has the technology available to make food healthier, but still retain its appeal. Pollan s view is much the same as some scientists, food activists, nutritionists, and celebrity chefs. He has had such an influence that the Silicon Valley caters to the wholefoods movement and the progression to familiarizing the masses with simpler eating habits (Freedman). Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can t see them (Rowling 187). A major factor driving the action and theme of J.K. Rowling s third book, Harry Potterand the Prisoner of Azkaban, is the element of fear represented by the dementors upon the magical community and the terror felt when witches and wizards were threatened by the Dementor s horrific Kiss. In the scene (246 248) where Harry Potter and Professor Lupin are having a drink at the Three Broomsticks tavern, Harry decides to ask about the dementors and the Dementor s Kiss. This scene is important because it ties together all the previous information about the dementors, and emphasizes how negatively they epitomize the forces of evil in the magical community, in which Harry Potter and other witches and wizards live. • 26. Comprehension Is The Purpose Of Reading According to Thompkins (2016) comprehension is the purpose of reading, students need to understand and enjoy what they are reading to learn from it. It s the creative process of activating prior knowledge, to explore and apply what is read. For example, if students need to know how to play a new board game, they read the instructions for direction. Comprehension implies different levels of thinking: from literal to inferential, then critical and evaluative. The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism Timothy Walter PHI101 5:45PM Research Paper The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the proof; and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And let him continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have reached the uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given which is the happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464). Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help the children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do we spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep inside we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical egoism at first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical egoism is the moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness. Ethical egoism is the ethical view that one ought to do whatever and only whatever is in one s own maximum interest, benefit, advantage, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past, the raising of swine was handled by small farming operations. Today, however, pigs are raised in large factories, some of which have the capacity to hold more than 100,000 animals (Lynch 14). This has created problems in terms of handling large amounts of excremental waste. These problems recently became evident in the state of North Carolina. A few years ago, North Carolina became the primary location for large scale hog raising operations. In particular, large companies like Coharie Hog Farm and Murphy Family Farms began locating along the eastern side of Interstate 95. This area was found to be suitable for hog farming because it is a coastal plain where the land is flat, the rivers wide and human habitation scattered ( The Brown Lagoon 24). The state of North Carolina was also favorable for large scale swine operations because there was a lack of laws regulating that type of business. In order to ensure their ability to operate without being heavily regulated, the major swine companies in North Carolina donated huge amounts of money to the leading politicians in the state. Thus, the major swine farmers were able to gain a sense of immunity as a result of their powerful political connections. • 34. What Defines Human Nature And The Hierarchy Of Human... What defines human nature and the hierarchy of human relations? In this paper, I will argue that Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard (rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although Beauvoir s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what term designates a humanbeing, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female nature is defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without man, woman is only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other. Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents only the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By making this assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has reached the limits of their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and woman is inconclusive in its stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine, there are some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man at work is similar to the work ethic of a woman at home. Communication And Language In Babel Babel, 2006, directed by Alejandro GonzГЎlez IГ±ГЎrritu is a mosaic film about an accident in Morocco which connects four groups of people on three different continents. The word Babel is derived from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel and basically comes down to one common language being split into multiple languages causing a confusion in speech (Fairchild, 2017). According to IГ±ГЎrritu, Babel is about how everyday lives are affected by walls, miscommunication and barriers (Michael, 2014). However, by not directly referencing the bible anywhere in the film, there is a sense of ambiguity, giving the audience the space to come to their own conclusion about what the messages of the film are. This paper will be looking at the themes of communication, prejudice and western superiority and the idea that humans have more in common than we realise. These ideas are helped along by film language elements such as nonlinear narrative, cinematography techniques such as camera angles and close ups and editing techniques such as parallel editing and match cuts. Communication or lack thereof often leading to confusion is a major theme raised in the film Babel and is delivered through elements such as narrative, parallel editing and repetition. The chemistry and physic of either river or lake is a function of the substances that contact with either in flowing or still water and how long been there with their exposure to the sunlight or wind. The man starts out calm and uncaring to his surroundings and the cold, but be the time of the last fire he built, he was panicking and distraught. As the fire thawed out the man s fingers and toes it also thawed out his heart and made the man feel more than he ever wanted to. At the beginning of the man s journey before he made a fire, he was undeterred by the cold, But all this the mysterious, far reaching hairline trail, the absence of sub from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (London 302). The man was just as cold on the inside as he was on the outside. He kept his mind clear by staying focused and observant, Empty as the man s mind was of thoughts, he was keenly observant, and he noticed the changes in the creeks, the curves and bends and timber jams, and always he sharply noted where he placed his feet (London 304). • 49. Validation [pic] ZigBee Wireless Mesh Networking for Monitoring Control What is ZigBee? ZigBee is a consortium of software, hardware and services companies that have developed a common standard for wireless networking of sensors and controllers. While other wireless standards are concerned with exchanging large amounts of data, ZigBee is for devices that have smaller throughput needs. The other driving factors are low cost, high reliability, high security, low battery usage, simplicity and interoperability with other ZigBee devices. ZigBee can be used in commercial applications such as building maintenance for monitoring and controlling lights, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), smoke alarms, fire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one device should fail, the path is automatically rerouted through other nodes on the network. In this way the networks become self healing . ZigBee uses 128 bit AES encryption algorithms for a highly secure network. In commercial or industrial settings, hackers might try to perform a Denial of Lighting, similar to a Denial of Service on internet sites that they hack into. This might not be done only to be disruptive, but on large buildings in major cities, hackers might be tempted to black out only some lights in order to spell words or slogans with the remaining lights. Triggering fire alarms could also be an effective way to get a target out of a building and in the open in an assassination attempt. Access control through wireless connections might lead to break ins and burglary in an insecure environment. For these reasons ZigBee has been designed to have a high level of security. In order for ZigBee to catch on in businesses and homes it needs to be simple to set up the network and to add new devices. ZigBee networks rely on simplicity and ease of setup. In most instances a new device is simply synchronized with the existing network by placing the two devices close together and pressing a button on each device at the same time. Battery life of a device is an important consideration in the design of the ZigBee standard. Many devices will have simple inexpensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today when people think of women s role in Judaism, they think of them as being of very low importance. Yet, threw the Halakha (Jewish laws) we are able to see how significant the role of women is in Judaism. There are many Jewish feminist leaders in today s society. This is because throughout the years of education and study of Judaism, the women learned that everyone must be respected. Within Judaism the women are considered to be on a separate level. Yet, their attendance is not a religious requirement. Therefore they may be regarded and less privileged then the males. Written in the Jewish scripts, it is understood that the men and women are not allowed to be together during prayer. In Orthodox Judaism, the men and women are usually in separate sections of the synagogue, and is often separated by a curtain, or in some cases even a wall. To the Jewish men, this is not a sexist act. It is solely done, so that the men would not be distracted by the women s beauty. For some this may seem chauvinistic, and unfair. But, as Judaism evolved, other segregations were formed. Within many of these new forms of Judaism, the Conservative and Reform Judaism was created. Both these forms of Judaism see women s role as being very different then the Orthodox view. However, the basic gender differentiation of traditional laws has created serious tensions in many sections of the Orthodox community. The Reform movement was created in the eighteenth century Germany as an attempt to modernize the religion. Within this new form of Judaism, they have adapted many ideas from Christianity.
