David Bordwell s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
While the films of classical Hollywood differ in various aspects, there is a unifying style that
allows one to look at each film as a piece in a larger picture. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a 1958 film
directed by Richard Brooks and based on a play of Tennessee Williams, remains conservative
throughout which makes it an ideal film to look at to understand the paradigms, as David Bordwell
would put it, that ultimately determined the way in which Hollywoodfilms were made. Bordwell
uses three different levels of generality to describe the common elements among Classical
Hollywood films. The first level, devices, is primarily about the technical aspects of the film and
deals with the use of common cinematic conventions such as dramatic... Show more content on

It is also the longest shot of the scene at about a minute and thirty seconds in length and it
provides a turning point for the conversation between Brick and Big Daddy. The length allows
the shot to swell to an emotional climax that leads to much quicker cutting in the following shots
to build up tension. Hitchcock frequently used similar editing techniques, for example the rapid
cutting in the shower in Psycho or the quick cuts as the fire is about to make the car explode in
The Birds. It starts by pulling out of a medium close up on Brick to a medium wide shot, queueing
the audience that movement is about to happen. From pulling out though it is apparent that the
lighting on Brick has changed dramatically between the two shots, as traditionally more care is
taken into lighting close ups. Brick starts to move to the door with the camera panning with his
movement until he arrives at a door that is blocked by Big Daddy. In Classical Hollywood, most
camera movements are done through motivated character movement and this film clearly follows
this rule with this shot being a stand out representation for this technique. This framing is
maintained until we yet again see another instance of camera movement as Brick and Big Daddy
then move to the center of the room. At about this time we notice there is some slight thunder
outside though it is not overpowering, however once Skipper s name is mentioned the thunder
overwhelms the scene and provides a pause in their conversation. This film uses sound cues often
to let the audience know that what is being said is either important for the plot or emotionally
important. While most are subtle this is the one cue in the film that feels a bit over the top, as in
real life nature is not able to weigh in on the conversations of people. Even without the thunder cue,
it is apparent from Paul Newman s terrific acting and Big Daddy s movement at

Gay Marriage
In the Boston Globe newspaper editorial For Gay Marriage the editors argue that gay marriage
should be legalized in America. Throughout the newspaper article the is topic of the expanding
circle of rights ( Globe A18). Movements include the civil rights movement, gender equality, rights
for the disabled, 18 year olds to vote, single mothers and adoptive parents have occurred it is
apparent that the right for gay marriageshould occur ( Globe A18).These advances have occurred
with the help of court cases. The 1967 supreme court case Loving V. Virginia Court rulings ruled
that marriage should not be restricted because of ones race ( Globe A18). Others ruled that
adoption could not be denied on the basis of sexual orientation. The Globe states that under the
Massachusetts constitution, Equality under the law shall not be denied or abridged because of
sex, race, color, creed or national origin to argue their point gay marriage should be
legalized(A18). Along with the presidents The Globe uses Hillary Goodridge as an example of
how her rights were abridged when she was unable to see her newborn daughter in a neonatal
intensive care unit because she was not married to her partner of 15 years. (A18). The Editors
discuss opposing reasons to why gay marriage should not be legalized by Massachusetts Attorney
General. One argument the attorney general makes is that marriage is, ...A social institution
designed to promote child bearing and rearing (A18). The Globe the refutes this

ABSTRACT
How is performance management linked to organizational strategy execution and performance? A
case study of two organizations of different scale in Asia
By Raveenderen Ramamoothie Strategy execution is a topic of practical importance and its success
depends on how an organization integrates and aligns the business units and the employee
performance to the strategic goals of the organization. However, many organizations find that their
strategic goals realization is not optimized. One of the key issues is that the strategy and the
performance goals of an organization are often disconnected with the performance management
platform, a function of the strategic HR in managing employee performance. Essentially in this

Anthony Wayne Effect On Indians
We are now Masters of this Island, and we can dispose of the Lands we think proper, General
Philip Schuyler said to the Indians. East of the Mississippi, there were over 40,000 Indians,
comprised of Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, and Choctaw tribes. Indian leaders told the Spanish in
1784, The Americans...put us out of our lands, extending themselves like a plague of locusts in the
territories of the Ohio River we inhabit. The Americans took Indian land and traded alcohol to
Indians, causing them to lose senses and give land out of reason. In 1790, the Americans faced a
great defeat against Little Turtle and his tribe. Out of the 1800 soldiers sent to capture the land,
only 900 came out alive. The battle has no name. Anthony Wayne returned and

The Success Of A Business Owner
Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The
reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever
starts a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn
from their mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose
attitude that motivates that person to not accept failure as an option.
Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil
duty to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main
objective of an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way
or another. This is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from
a good intent and integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask
themselves, How can I help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the
main motivating factors an entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action.
Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs
that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with
solutions and satisfy a person s problems or needs.
Another great example are social media entrepreneurs who

The Pros And Cons Of An Autonomous Car
Whether it is in a laboratory, boardroom, the halls of Congress, or at the precipice of a perilous
situation, weighing the value of one life versus another and making life and death decisions is an
excruciating process with no easy answers (Kaplan, 2016). Nonetheless, as the discussion about
autonomous cars and the ethical dilemmas they present rages on, I find it interesting that we are
insistent upon imposing higher moral and ethical standards on the programming and decision
making abilities of an autonomous car than human drivers (Parnell, 2016). Moreover, as we look
to do so, we are also departing from the ethical philosophythat has been utilized for many years to
pioneer many of the safety features, laws, and regulations to enhance automobile... Show more

However, there was little discussion about the significant consequences associated with the human
driver s split second decision (Lin, n.d.). Moreover, when humans are compelled to instinctually
react to life threatening stimuli, their decisions are primarily driven by self preservation rather than
a cognitive moral philosophy (Taflinger, 1996). As a result, I believe the deontology should be the
moral philosophy utilized to address the moral dilemmas associated with autonomous cars.
Subsequently, manufacturers, scholars, and law makers should gather data assessing how most
humans would react in these scenarios and write code for autonomous vehicles to respond in a
similar manner in these excruciatingly painful scenarios. Additionally, utilizing an deontological
moral philosophy would also enable auto manufacturers and law makers to continue to leverage
the same moral philosophy they have utilized for the past 50 years, as well as the data from past
crash tests and experiences to innovate and regulate automobile safety features, such as, seat belts,
crumple zones, anti locking brakes, air bags, and automatic emergency braking systems given that
each of these safety systems were designed to protect the passengers inside the vehicle
(Rynkiewicz, 2015). Consequently, enabling consumers to reap the many other safety benefits of
autonomous vehicles, while having a clear understanding that when faced with a split second
perilous decision, the vehicle will mirror the instinctual actions of a human driver, utilize
deontological moral philosophy, and attempt to safeguard the lives of the car s

Hero s Journey
The Hero s journey, or in its more correct terminology the Monomyth is an object from the area of
comparative mythology. Its definition in the most basic of forms, it is a pattern or outline that is
used in storytelling, usually the myth. This pattern is found in many famous pieces from all
around the world. In the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces from 1949 by author Joseph
Campbell, this pattern is described in detail. Campbell describes that numerous myths from
different times and areas of the world seem to share an identical structure in their storytelling. He
summarized this with a well known quote found at the intro of his book:
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous

The boon is the reward gained from surpassing their toughest trial throughout the trials brought
forward. This boon can be a goal, a power, treasure, or even just a feeling. The boon is usually the
climax of the story, also known as the highest point of tension in the story. Once the hero has
achieved the boon, the hero must then decide whether to return to the ordinary world with the
boon. If he chooses to return he will often face challenges on the return journey as well. If the
hero succeeds in returning to the ordinary world with the boon, it can improve the world and
change it forever. Again these are only some of the 17 stages of the monomyth. Campbell states
that it is very rare the myth will contain all 17 stages; they can also be presented in various orders.
This makes it sometimes difficult to spot the monomyth structure within a story. (Martin) George
Lucas or the man I hope we would know by now as the creator of Star Wars, in various occasions
has credited Campbell s theory of the monomyth as the inspiration for his intergalactic series of
films. It is quite easy to pick out many of the structures of a monomyth within the films. Often this
popular example is used in classrooms when teaching the monomyth since it makes it easily
relatable to younger audiences. By 1975 George Lucas had written two drafts for Star Wars and
even though they were already written up and completed he felt they were lacking. He knew his
drafts lacked

Recent Changes in the Nursing Profession Essay
There have been many changes (major and minor) in the nursing profession and the medical field,
as a whole, over the years. Some of these changes include changing demographics and increasing
diversity, technological explosion, the cost of health care, and significant advances in nursing
science and research. Major socioeconomic changes created this drive to make transformations in
nursing and institutions. These institutions are the ones that are responsible for educating the next
generation of nurses, such as West Coast University.

For all of mankind, the cost of health care is a major daily stressor. This article stated an interesting

the United States has approached 15 percent of the total gross national product (Barbara R. Heller,

million individuals living in the United States that do not have health care coverage. The total
health care spending in America surpasses that of any other developed country. This is due to
technological advances that are readily available and breakthroughs in medicine. Still, there are
present concerns in nursing practices, such as: the affects on the nursing profession, treatment
options for their patients, and the patients participation in their own care. This article stated,
Nursing professionals, who have historically taken the lead in health education and health
promotion, are disappointed by the lack of financing and reimbursement available through managed

Graffiti Art
If you were to go open a dictionary and look up the definition of art, you would see that it has art
as The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination... ( Art 2017) and Works
produced by human creative skill and imagination. ( Art 2017). From these definitions, graffiti is
art, yet in most cases, it s considered vandalism because it is done without permission of the
property. When graffitiis done in a designated place or with the permission of the property owner,
then it can truly be considered art. But even if these circumstances are not met, if the graffiti goes
beyond a simple tag, it is art.
If you walk through almost any city, the buildings, bridges, and any other available spaces are
seemingly filled with colors, picture, and words that are not part of the original architecture.
This graffiti, which is a mix of tags, stencils, pieces, and freestyle, seems to have almost taken
over cities across the world. Some of this graffiti, such as tags, are eyesores, but some pieces,
such as the High Line Love Is the Answer and Kiss murals in New York City, are sites that have
become iconic pieces of artwork. Unfortunately, pieces like these are also starting to be covered to
a seemingly astronomical rate, which is causing outrage among those who visited to them.
Graffiti is derived from the Greek word graphien which means drawing on a surface such as stone.
It was originally created as a word to describe the illegal drawings that ancient

Making the Best Use of Pakistan s Natural Resources
INTRODUCTION
Pakistan is rich in natural resources. It has mountains , plains , deserts , fertile land , rivers and
oceans. Natural resources are very important to the development and prosperity of a country. The
important thing is to use them for the welfare of human beings and the development of the country
economically because the progress of a country depends entirely on the use of available resources.
Significant natural resources are described as follows :
1. Soil
Soil dry Pakistan belong to group having high carbonate and calcium poor in organic matter.
These vary in color from reddish brown in the north to the red or gray in the south. These soils
are generally fertile due to training. The barrage of new stores near the river called Khaddar and
mostly consists of sand . The old bar alluvial plateau, called Bangar , consists of finer particles
loams . At the foot of the mountains the soil is sandy and generally becomes thinner towards the
plains where Khankah , the concentration of limestone is occasionally . The soils of the deserts of
Thal and Thar and Balochistan are carried by the wind. In southern Potwar is a thin layer of
residual floor coating .
2.Water
Water is a basic necessity of life . Human beings , animals and plants can not live without water.
Water is essential for maintaining the quality of life on earth . This finite commodity has a direct
impact on almost all sectors of the economy. In Pakistan its importance is more than ordinary

The Last Of The Mohicans Movie Essay
In the time of the 7 years war, is the timeframe which The last of the Mohicans was written in and
then later, made into a film based on the novel. I will be describing the plot, both the historical
accuracies and inaccuracies, the film themes, and my opinion of the acting, all on the 1992 film. I
was completely impressed with this film. Not having read the book I cannot compare the two,
however I can compare what I saw with actual events from that time and what I saw. The plot of
this film starts out in 1757, the American colonies are in the middle of the third year of the French

It lingers too much on either the romance or the feud between Magua and Col. Munroe. All great
parts of the story, yes, however, if you were watching The Last of the Mohicanspurely for
historical purposes and to find out things about the war, you wouldn t learn much. Yes, the
movie (and the book as well I m sure), does depict for the most part of what I could tell,
everything accurately. It is the point of it not showing enough about this huge event in our
history. How did the war get started? Who won the war? What all tribes and alliances aided both
sides? There are a lot of left out details, unfortunately, which makes it hard to follow the details of
the French and Indian war. For example, the fight between Magua and his Indians against
Munroe and the English was quite a bit less violent than what is led to believe. Not to forget, we
are not shown the reaction of Montcalm in finding out his Huron Indians disobeyed him in
letting the English go safely. Also, the deepest inaccuracies I do believe come from what the
book had written and what the movie chose to tell us. Those things aside though, it is a marvelous
film. Yes, there are some inaccuracies in this film and probably even in the book, however, for a
Hollywood production, I think they outdid themselves (did amazing). It can be a little hard to
follow at times, but the film is overall

Capital Planning And Budgeting System Process
Capital planning and budgeting is a very vital piece in the Public Budgeting System process. It is an
essential implement in the financial management practice and is effective in both public and
private organizations. It is the method which consists of the determination and the evaluation of the
investments and the possible expenses by an organization. As explicated by Lee, Johnson, Joyce
(2008), capital budgets help in determining how much of each form of investment is needed, and it
supports an organization in assessing the available revenue which includes loans that are required
to financethose investments (p. 475). Capital budgetingis a central part of the universal practice of

Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness Illuminates the...
Since the introduction of Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness into society, critics have debated over
the meaning of the ambiguous title. There are many interpretations of this title, but the general
consensus is that in the heart of darkness, you cannot do good: you can only be less evil. The title
refers to not only the physical lack of lightin the jungle, but also to the grim consequences of
imperialism due to the stygian heart of mankind.
The first meaning is that the heart of darkness refers to actual lack of light in the book, the jungle
in particular. In the beginning of the novel, Marlow describes that the air was dark above
Gravesend (3). This is foreshadowing of the looming darkness Marlow will face ahead. When
Charlie reaches the edge of the jungle, he describes it as so dark green to be almost black (11).
This refers to the caliginous jungle, but also the corruptive nature of the jungle as seen through
the transformation of Kurtz. Another example of physical darkness occurs when darkness
encroaches on Marlow and the listeners. Marlow describes it as being so pitch dark that we
listeners could barely see each other (95). Marlow observes that the forest draws him in and seems
beckon him to explore it. It had a treacherous appeal to the lurking death, to the hidden evil, to the
profound darkness of its heart (36). Marlow recognizes the lightlessness, but is still drawn to it.
This emphasizes the darkness every man and woman has within them. It is in the

What I Learned About Spiritual Warfare
God has restructured and redefined my ideas and ways of spiritual warfare. I learned so much

much weariness and being burned out. Through a recent series of events and personal crisis, God

Representations Of Discovery In Robert Frost s Tuft Of...
It takes a monumental experience to recognise discovery and to that extent the composer s
manipulate their ideas on discovery and represent them in a way that is memorable. Robert Frost s
Tuft of flowers , Mending wall and Jean Marc VallГ©e s Wild have intertwining ideas of Nature
and Relationships that leads to emotional and intellectual discoveries. In this speech I will present
to you my understanding of how Representations of discovery are made memorable through the
composer s ways of communicating .
In Robert Frost s Tuft of flowers , the connection of man and nature leads the composer to make an
emotional discovery. Frosts unorthodox rhyming style of having 5 iambs in each line makes the
poem unique and its quest to realising discovery unique. With that in mind by choosing an unusual
form, Frost makes the idea apparent to me in a way that is memorable. Also Frost contrasts the
flower with the cut grass shows that he has encased a connection between them and himself as he
recognises the beauty of the flower in ...and led my eye to look/At a tall tuft of flowers beside a
brook this new understanding lead him on the path of finding the emotional discovery. Through this
poem, Frost showed me that discoveries can lead to refinding yourself and finding new perceptions
and by demonstrating this idea he has further my understanding of discovery through the notion of
making it memorable.
In the notion of discovery, a connection with nature leads to an unparalleled growth in one self as
shown by Jean Marc VallГ©e s Wild . Like Frost s Tuft of flowers , Wild shows the connection to
nature is essential to the path of discovery. VallГ©e uses naturalistic lightning on the face of his
character to shows the emotions, and expressions the character has on the various of landscape
from the desert to the snow. The uses of the lighting highlights the changes of the characters emotion
throughout her journey across the land and thus illustrates her new found discovery of her
emotions. In some sense, both Tuft of flowers and Wild , makes their ideas memorable by using
different techniques to elevate their characters, by doing so the concept of discovery becomes more
apparent to me.

The Partition onf India
The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the
separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India.
Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and
social conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in
contemporary history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was
focused on the political side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played
an important role in manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani

To Rani, people dying here, others dying there (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268) was something that
happened every day, it was no surprise to her. Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India
and Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife
throughout her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268).
Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed
as a collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and
brief statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to
dwell into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s
testimony was significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of
view; it also revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected
psychologically. This was also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and
grievance. Her sensitivity and deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender.
Her emphasis on the words young and girl throughout her testimony evoked our sense of disbelief
that people would do such inhumane things to each other (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.271). Her

Compare And Contrast Paracetamol And Aspirin
Compare and contrast the mechanism of action and therapeutic uses of aspirin and paracetamol
Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid, was among the earliest drugs to be synthesized and
is still commonly used worldwide today. Aspirin is useful as an anti pyretic, anti platelet,
analgesic, as well as, anti inflammatory drugs. Its main clinical importance now is in the
treatment of cardiovascular disease. It can be orally administered and is rapidly absorbed as the
liver metabolizes 75%, but can t be given to human beings under the age of 16. The elimination of
aspirins metabolite, salicylate, follows first order kinetics at low doses, but at high doses, it follows
saturation kinetics. (Rang et al., 2012).

By inhibiting the COX enzyme it controls pain by controlling the signals before they reach the brain.
The analgesic mechanism of paracetamol has been suggested that the metabolites of paracetamol
such as NAPQI, which act on TRPA1 receptors in the spinal cord, suppress the signal transduction
from the superficial layers of the dorsal horn, therefore alleviating pain.
The exact mechanisms by which COX is inhibited in various circumstances are still being
discussed and this is because of the differences in activity of aspirin, paracetamol and other
NSAIDs. With these differences it has been proposed that further COX enzymes may exist. A
theory of how paracetamol may work is by the inhibition of the COX 3 isoform (a COX 1 splice
variant). COX 3 has been expressed in dogs and it shows that this enzyme shares similarities to
other COX enzymes, while producing pro inflammatory chemicals and is selectively inhibited by
paracetamol. But research has continued and in humans the COX 3 enzyme doesn t show
inflammatory action and paracetamols blockage of it is not significant in its functioning in

Reflection On Virtual Child
Final Reflection Virtual Child I learned many things through Virtual Child. I learned I babied
my baby too much. Any time she cried I picked her up, if she fell I was always there to pick her up.
Throughout her life I babied her. As a mother I would need to decode her cry s (Clinic. M). which
in real life I believe I would. I believe this because I would not have as much patient as I did with
my virtual child. But decoding cries, would be realizing the difference between a hungry cry and a

But this teaches the child nothing. This makes children not share well with other kids (Wartik,
N. (2015, August 05). From experience working in a daycare I witnessed and realized which
kids were only children, which kids were adopted and which children were neglected very
quickly. Parents need to find a balance between loving and playing with their children and not
neglecting them. This balance would be hard to do every day but is possible. Telling your child
no is hard but must be done. Telling your kid no every time they ask something is also not right.
Many parents are scared to let their child, be a child. Letting your child fall is normal. Letting
your child cry is good. Letting your kids make friends and not hang out with the parents and
family all the time is normal. Even though it may be hard because this baby is your life, you have
to let it grow and do things on his or her own (Wartik N. (2015, August 05).
This semester I have learned many things. In this program Virtual Child I learned, loving your infant

about milestones children should reach at what ages. I know the doctor asks if the child as

Dna Replication And Its Effect On The Development Of...
Introduction:
DNA replication is one of the fundamental processes involved with the central dogma and is
instrumental in the development of mutations, alternations and others changes that allow the
process of evolution to operate and proceed leading to the biodiversity. In the process proposed by
Watson and Crick (1953), the double helix unwinds to expose the bases in each strand of the DNA,
where each of the two separate strands act as the template or molecular mould for the synthesis of
a new molecule of DNA . As it is well known that the process of replication allows for the
complementary base formation among the template strand and the newly synthesized DNA strand
.this mechanism of complementary base pairing has resulted in the semi conservative mode of
replication of the DNA molecule (Pray,2008).
Stages of replication: The molecular mechanism of the process of replication is directed towards
the fidelity of the DNA molecule. Along with numerous interacting enzymes and other molecules
working in split second accuracy and timing to synthesize, proof read, repair and eventually
produce a newly synthesized strand of DNA with error s at the rate of one per 100 million
nucleotides (Alberts et al., 2002). The fundamental process of replication can be considered in three
phases initiation, elongation and termination.

How Did Ben Chifley Influence The Labour Movement
I try to think of the Labour movement, not as putting an extra sixpence into somebody s pocket, or
making somebody Prime Minister or Premier, but as a movement bringing something better to the
people, better standards of living, greater happiness to the mass of the people. We have a great
objective the light on the hill which we aim to reach by working for the betterment of mankind not
only here but anywhere we may give a helping hand.
This is but a short excerpt of Ben Chifley s famous Light on the Hill speech in 1949, but it shows
the extent of his political aptitude and beliefs as a true believer in the Labour movement. He is best
recognised for his leadership in the Keynesian, interventionalist reconstruction of the Australian
economy following the Second World War and also his tenure as the architect of the Australian

Power for Women in Alcestis and Hippolytus Essay example
Is it feasible that through the loss of one s life and being, one would be able to gain influence and
power? Does this fatal gain of power show a previous lack of it? Does forgoing one s life for an
honorable cause improve a woman s reputation in turn giving her more power? Through our studies,
we have discovered that typically women exhibit a limited amount of agency in ancient Greece.
Women occasionally assert dominance in the household; although, even within the home they
posses limited influence over their husbands. An interesting theme runs though Euripides theatrical
tragedies Alcestis and Hippolytus. In each play the lead female characterforgoes her life for the sake

(Oeconomicus) Therefore, it is with great regard that men and women uphold the public s opinion
of them. Furthermore, the women of Euripides tragedies are expected to withhold both their
individual reputation and the reputation of the household. The importance of withholding one s
reputation is stated in each of these tragedies. Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he
says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960).
Phaedra reemphasizes the importance of reputation in her speech, It would always be my choice
to have my virtues known and honored. So when I do wrong I could not endure to see a circle of
condemning witnesses (402 404). Consequently, reputation is a highly influential factor in society
and it is desirable to uphold one s reputation.
In the eye of a condemning society, Alcestis improves her reputation through the valiant way she
gives her own life for her husband. She courageously does what none of his family members,
even his elderly father would do, willingly gives up her life for her husband, for not one, except
his wife, would consent to die for him, and not see daylight any more (17). This act showed loyalty,
dedication, and love, all desirable feminine characteristics. At her death bed Alcestis shows how her

science to define one s identity by categorizing individuals into one of two sexess: male or

his first name and that he is, indeed, a man. When he realizes that they are not going to budge,
he settles for labeling himself as a hermaphrodite (scene from Boys Don t Cry). In Brandon s
case, it means that he was born with both sexes; he would rather lie about having two sexes,

With so many options with materials, colors, and textures, tile is a versatile finish that can be used
on walls, floors, and countertops. One of the challenges with tile, however, is keeping it clean.
Everyday living can be hard on tile. Dirt and grime can smudge the surface and settle into the grout
lines. Professional cleaning is the best way to maintain the tile and grout to glistening perfection.
Here are 10 benefits you will get when you have your tile and grout professionally cleaned.
1. Gives you brand new looking tile
Older tile has a charm that newer tile just does not have. The problem with older tile, though, is
that it can look tired and worn just because it is dirty from years of use. A professional cleaning can

the microscopic organisms and flush them away. It leaves behind a clean, almost sterile surface.
3. Improves the look of your home.
When tile and grout is looking dirty and old, it will bring down the look of your entire home. You
can have freshly painted walls, brand new furniture, and even a brand new kitchen. But, if your tile
looks dirty and unkempt, it won t matter.
Having a professional clean all the tile and grout in your home will give it a fresh appearance.
That will make the rest of your home look like the shiny showcase you envisioned.
4. Does not damage the tile or grout
If you try to clean the tile in your home yourself, you are going to need to invest in a number of
cleaners. Granite requires a different cleaner than ceramic tile. Tiles with texture need special care

Spirit, The Stallion Of The Cimarron And Campbell s Theory
The Spirit of a Hero: Spirit, The Stallion of the Cimarron and Campbell s Theory
In the words of Joseph Campbell, A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something
bigger than oneself. He further explores this idea in his novel The Hero with a Thousand Faces ,
where he expresses his theory on the monomyth. According to Campbell, a common template can
define the passage taken by every hero, which he dubbed the Hero s Journey. As he states in the
preface of the 1949 edition of his novel, The parallels [are] immediately apparent; and these will
develop a vast and amazingly constant statement of the basic truths... Today the Hero s Journey is
defined by twelve stages which shape the development of the hero as his story progresses. One
such hero who undergoes these twelve stages is a horse known as Spirit. In his story, it is
sometime around 1862, and the United States Calvary is determined to civilize the West and
promote its open land and ample resources to Eastern Americans through the expansion of the
railroad. As the leader of the Cimarron herd, Spirit feels threatened by the intrusion and after
being forcibly captured, he becomes aware of their plans for his home and it becomes his
ambition to hinder their efforts. His journey to do so is destined to become another one of the
faces of Campbell s template, the Hero s Journey.
Like every horse in the Cimarron herd, Spirit began his life under the open skies of the prairie.

blood tests, issues such as mental and social healthhowever cannot be tested. A person who is
suffering from depression and a person who has a fever should hold the same level of importance
to a doctor, parent and society. Health just like people can come in all different shapes and sizes.
Health for everyone is not the same. This is shown in different teachings of different disciplines as
well. The author defines health as being mentally and physically content with one s self. Philosophy
is a study of problems, which are ultimate, abstract and very general. These problems are concerned
with the nature of existence, knowledge, morality, reason and human purpose (Teichmann Evans,
1999, p.1). Famous philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Karl Marx all shared one common
goal, which was to find the truth in certain human pneumonias. Philosophy is all about the truth of
things. The philosophical understanding of public healthconsist of controversial ethical, political and
social issues, including those related to vaccinations, the threat of pandemics and possible
restrictions to individual liberties, public health research, screening and obesity policy (Dawson,

The United Kingdom s Spilt And How It Affects Their Gdp
The United Kingdom s Spilt and how it affects their GDP
It is the responsibility of every government to defend its citizens in all matters when it comes to
maintaining the economy. Every economy comes against different challenges including the
business cycles that may stem from the world market. In this essay I will try to explain the actions
taken by the United Kingdoms union government in trying to make sure that the economy profits
from all citizens and reduce the whole load to it. I will consider the recent events of their split from
the European Union.
There are so many countries in the world have been struggling because of a recession in their
country s economies and United Kingdom hasn t been an exception. A recession is a
macroeconomic term that explains one of the two different business cycles that economies face and
go through. The business cycles are characterized by either a thriving trend where there are more
business happenings supported with a rapid economic increase and parts of a recession where there
is obstruction of the economic development. There are many different features and aspects that
contribute to economic progress, which is measured through the gross domestic product. This factor
will include reserves, investments government spending and other factors within either an upsurge
or a reduction. A reduction in spending might lead to a recession while an upsurge in spending
could lead to expansion.

Culture of Cuba
The Culture Of Cuba
Andrew Mengel
Moravian College
The Culture of Cuba Cuba has a complex but rich culture that has been broadening in all aspects in
its society. Its semi forbidden access to Americans makes it a curious destination for adventitious
people. The largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba has been inhabited since the mid 1400s by
various Mesoamerican tribes, until 1492 when Christopher Columbus invaded the island and took
it over. It remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish American war in 1898, and briefly became
a colony of the United States. A few years later, Cuba than gained nominal independence from
America in 1902 and functioned under a democratic republic, despite weak leaders in their national

They both use a similar alphabet, but the way their grammar is structured, along with the
philosophy of the language, it varies in many ways. Spanish is a very phonetic language,
meaning every letter represents one sound. (Brown and Patten) On the contrary, English is very
irregular when it comes to spelling and pronunciation. For instance, look at the way the
following words vary even though the sounds are similar Barry, berry and bury. Although the
same sounds are being used, the words are completely different in definition and in context.
Another difference is Spanish categorizes certain groups of words by masculine and feminine, as
do most languages. (Brown and Patten) However, English has no gender restrictions besides
pronouns. There are also differences in the sentence structure that both languages possess.
Spanish verbs always agree with the subject, where in English, the verbs are based on if they are
being used in the past, present or future. Finally, one other striking difference in the language is
the vocabulary that is associated with each language. Spanish has a rich vocabulary, however they
all derive from Latin or originated from a Spanish culture, making the language more pure.
English, on the other hand, has adopted words from various languages and is a mixed. (Brown and
Patten) For example, king (Old English), zero (Arabic), royal (French), cargo (Spanish), and
sovereign (Latin)

Forensic Pathology
Analyzing different forensic pathologist daily journal, I found it really fascinated what exactly they
are doing. Pathologist are the ones who tend to further expand a criminal investigation through all
the multiple testing. They will run DNA test and bone test throughout the whole day. Most forensic
pathologist have a system when it comes to figuring out the cause of death. Typically, the
pathologist will look for evidence to indicate the cause of death like a cut womb. After they will
start running DNA test. In some cases pathologists will test blood and tissue to identify the person.
Furthermore, pathologists spend most of their time running test in lab. Also, pathologist are able to

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven Analysis
In the story The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie, points out the
hardships of being a Native American back in the 20th century. These hardships were racism,
alcoholism, poverty and isolation. The story takes place in the reservation and it is about a
young Native American whom struggles in society because of his skin color, family s
addictions and fights. The narrator moves to Seattle with his white girlfriend who he seems to
have an odd relationship because they are constantly fighting. He becomes an alcoholic and
moves back to the reservation after a break up with his girlfriend. The story begins with the
narrator who enters a 7 11 store at three in the morning to be exact. The cashier looks at him in a
frightened way as if he was a criminal and becomes aware of every action that he does in the
store. Of course, this is something that still goes on today, specially at 7 11 stores and I once
experienced it. The cashier acted in a racist manner because he judges the guy due to his dark
skin color and thought he was a robber. Although the narrator did understand the reason why the
cashier behaved that way as he once worked in a 7 11 store and was robbed. The narrator started
fooling around with the cashier by making him more frightened, but the cashier noticed that he
wasn t a bad guy and offered him the Creamsicle for free. The narrator moves to Seattle and lives
with his white girlfriend who he is constantly fighting all the time. He breaks

The Importance Of Heath Related Safety Issues
UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF HEATH RELATED SAFETY ISSUES Safety in
Healthcare What does it take to be a safe nurse? The nursing profession offers many opportunities
for error. Great challenges arise when trying to keep patients safe. Quality health care is defined by
patient safety and the fulfillment of personal needs. Society, nurses, physicians, and patients
themselves are responsible for ensuring that the operational systems and methods are taken to
reduce the likelihood of errors occurring. As a nurse, it is important to make sure that the
appropriate actions are being taken to limit the amount of mistakes that put patients and their
families at risk. Although a nurse has to perform to a certain level of competency, there is... Show

These recommendations are: пѓ Regular walking with a goal of 15,000 steps per day (modified
for those who cannot complete this) пѓ Performing yoga at least once per week пѓ Limiting fast
food meals to no more than two per week (or none, if possible) пѓ Drinking a recommended
amount of water per day (don t mistake thirst for hunger) пѓ Sleeping eight hours per night (don t
mistake fatigue for hunger These recommendations are not always achievable, but the need to
put forth the effort is significant. In a perfect world, a nurse would have the time to maintain an
exercise routine while juggling a home life. It is not always possible for a nurse to get a healthy
meal unless it is prepared beforehand at home and brought to the workplace. Long hours are
usually part of all nurse s schedule. Safety has to always be a concern and a number one priority
when in a position of caring for other people. It is imperative that a nurse takes care of herself
and maintains a healthy lifestyle to be able to perform at an acceptable level of performance.
Patient centered care is the number one priority for a nurse. Patient safety refers to a broad range
of circumstances. While in a vulnerable state, a patient expects to be looked after and cared for in
a respectable manner. A nurse has a great responsibility to the patient and his or her family to

The Pig Who Sang At The Moon By Jeffery Mason
In the essay, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon by Jeffery Mason, he points out that many farmed
animas are getting slaughtered for food.He explains that farm animals have feelings and
consciousness as humans in his essay. Farmed animals are dealing with unbearable pain for human
to eat. In his essay, he proves us with his brilliant experiences observing farmed animals such as
pigs, cows, she eps, goats, ducks and chickens.Farmed animals have unique qualities of their
own.Masson points out in his essay that we don t acknowledge all farmed animals as the way we
acknowledge dogs and cats.Masson wants readers to think about the emotions and qualities of
farmed animals. He persuades the readers to become vegetarian so farmed animals can live a
peaceful and happy life.Masson wants people to stop exploring farm animals in many forms . That
is one of the reason i assume why he wrote this essay..Animals needs are ignored and they get
treated awfully. He explains that billions of animals that are farmed and slaughtered for humanto eat
have emotional and intelligent lives. Fist, what draws my attention in his essay is he organized this
essay by each chapter talking about different kind of animals , and how animals have to suffer for
human consumer ,and he talks about emotions of animals .He also shows us that animals are
similar to human beings,However, they have to suffer horrible from the circumstances in which
they are farmed and slaughtered. He also pointed out about inner

Haiti Immigration Policy
This article discusses the history of immigration policies between the United States and Haiti and
the consequences of these policies. On September 22, 2016 the Obama administration made the
drastic decision to close its doors to Haitian migrants. The administration announced that it would
tighten its immigrationpolicy on Haitians, limiting the amount of refugees that would enter. Which
was a drastic change from their 2010 immigration policy that open its doors to the Haitian refugees.
This new policy affected many migrating Haitian who where just days from their immigration

We can begin by talking about migration and its effects on a global scale. Migration is one of the
main areas of focuses in Latin America and Latino Studies. It helps us understand the effects of
globalization on Latin American countries, the global relationship between the United States and
Latin America, and how this relationship affects the Latin American people. This article goes
through explaining the push and pull factors of why Haitians are being both pushed into the United
States and pulled away from their home country. With the 2010 earthquake that hit Haiti, economic
as well as political factors pushed Haitians to migrate. They started with Brazil but as their economy
worsen, Haitians looked furthered to the United States. And the United States allowed them to do
so as a humanitarian provision that came as the result of the 2010 earthquake. This pulled further
struggling Haitians with the promise of a better life to make the dangerous journey. But with the
abrupt change in policy, this shatters the already struggling Latin American countries with several
displacements. We can go even further, analyzing other areas of study such as how the
displacement of these immigrants will affect Latin America itself. Or how, on a national scale, the
displacement of the migrating Haitians will affect

Pablo Picasso Guernica vs. Theodore Gericault s Raft of...
For centuries artists have moved audiences through the use of pictures. As time progressed those
images became more and more demanding of the viewer until they were meant to invoke a
physical response. Perhaps the earliest account of such emotionally exact artwork is the 1818
piece, Raft of the Medusa, by Theodore Gericault. As time progressed people became more
politically aware and involved and generations of art portrayed this. Pablo Picassos Guernica,
created in 1937, is a great example of how modern times soon saw a peak in the occurrence of
allegorical and politically packed artworks. Gericault s The Raft of the Medusaand Picasso s
Guernica are both horrifying accounts of the nature of men that aimed to alter a viewer s political...

This predominantly two toned color motif allowed for more focus to be drawn to the most dynamic
figures, which are the same humans Gericault wanted viewers to see and sympathize for.
While Gericault s, Raft of the Medusa was essentially criticized for its lack of direct criticism of
the event and more a display of the human element, it is this feature that made it characteristically
romantic. Gericault took the national scandal out of the papers and turned it into a personal event
for each of the passengers. Rather than depict the weltering bodies of the crew, he gave them more
muscular frames in vigorous poses. Originally setting out to portray the event as nothing more than
a visual truth, he shifted his focus to portray a greater truth of suffering.
The suffering is reflected in the face of every passenger and it is the main focus of the piece than
any other element. The Raft s theme of human suffering evoked empathy and compassion, which
helped project the image beyond any hopes the artist could have held for the piece. This
predominant focus on the human condition allowed a stereotypical Romantic piece. Another artist
famous for highlighting the human condition was Spanish born, Pablo Picasso.
In 1936 the Spanish government commissioned Picasso to paint a feature piece for their
international exposition in Paris at the peak of World War II. Picasso was unsure of what to paint
until in 1937 when Nazi warplanes bombed the Spanish town of

  • 2. David Bordwell s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof While the films of classical Hollywood differ in various aspects, there is a unifying style that allows one to look at each film as a piece in a larger picture. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a 1958 film directed by Richard Brooks and based on a play of Tennessee Williams, remains conservative throughout which makes it an ideal film to look at to understand the paradigms, as David Bordwell would put it, that ultimately determined the way in which Hollywoodfilms were made. Bordwell uses three different levels of generality to describe the common elements among Classical Hollywood films. The first level, devices, is primarily about the technical aspects of the film and deals with the use of common cinematic conventions such as dramatic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also the longest shot of the scene at about a minute and thirty seconds in length and it provides a turning point for the conversation between Brick and Big Daddy. The length allows the shot to swell to an emotional climax that leads to much quicker cutting in the following shots to build up tension. Hitchcock frequently used similar editing techniques, for example the rapid cutting in the shower in Psycho or the quick cuts as the fire is about to make the car explode in The Birds. It starts by pulling out of a medium close up on Brick to a medium wide shot, queueing the audience that movement is about to happen. From pulling out though it is apparent that the lighting on Brick has changed dramatically between the two shots, as traditionally more care is taken into lighting close ups. Brick starts to move to the door with the camera panning with his movement until he arrives at a door that is blocked by Big Daddy. In Classical Hollywood, most camera movements are done through motivated character movement and this film clearly follows this rule with this shot being a stand out representation for this technique. This framing is maintained until we yet again see another instance of camera movement as Brick and Big Daddy then move to the center of the room. At about this time we notice there is some slight thunder outside though it is not overpowering, however once Skipper s name is mentioned the thunder overwhelms the scene and provides a pause in their conversation. This film uses sound cues often to let the audience know that what is being said is either important for the plot or emotionally important. While most are subtle this is the one cue in the film that feels a bit over the top, as in real life nature is not able to weigh in on the conversations of people. Even without the thunder cue, it is apparent from Paul Newman s terrific acting and Big Daddy s movement at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A case study of two organizations of different scale in Asia By Raveenderen Ramamoothie Strategy execution is a topic of practical importance and its success depends on how an organization integrates and aligns the business units and the employee performance to the strategic goals of the organization. However, many organizations find that their strategic goals realization is not optimized. One of the key issues is that the strategy and the performance goals of an organization are often disconnected with the performance management platform, a function of the strategic HR in managing employee performance. • 6. The Success Of A Business Owner Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever starts a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn from their mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose attitude that motivates that person to not accept failure as an option. Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil duty to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main objective of an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way or another. This is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from a good intent and integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask themselves, How can I help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the main motivating factors an entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action. Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with solutions and satisfy a person s problems or needs. Another great example are social media entrepreneurs who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of An Autonomous Car Whether it is in a laboratory, boardroom, the halls of Congress, or at the precipice of a perilous situation, weighing the value of one life versus another and making life and death decisions is an excruciating process with no easy answers (Kaplan, 2016). Nonetheless, as the discussion about autonomous cars and the ethical dilemmas they present rages on, I find it interesting that we are insistent upon imposing higher moral and ethical standards on the programming and decision making abilities of an autonomous car than human drivers (Parnell, 2016). Moreover, as we look to do so, we are also departing from the ethical philosophythat has been utilized for many years to pioneer many of the safety features, laws, and regulations to enhance automobile... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there was little discussion about the significant consequences associated with the human driver s split second decision (Lin, n.d.). Moreover, when humans are compelled to instinctually react to life threatening stimuli, their decisions are primarily driven by self preservation rather than a cognitive moral philosophy (Taflinger, 1996). As a result, I believe the deontology should be the moral philosophy utilized to address the moral dilemmas associated with autonomous cars. Subsequently, manufacturers, scholars, and law makers should gather data assessing how most humans would react in these scenarios and write code for autonomous vehicles to respond in a similar manner in these excruciatingly painful scenarios. Additionally, utilizing an deontological moral philosophy would also enable auto manufacturers and law makers to continue to leverage the same moral philosophy they have utilized for the past 50 years, as well as the data from past crash tests and experiences to innovate and regulate automobile safety features, such as, seat belts, crumple zones, anti locking brakes, air bags, and automatic emergency braking systems given that each of these safety systems were designed to protect the passengers inside the vehicle (Rynkiewicz, 2015). Consequently, enabling consumers to reap the many other safety benefits of autonomous vehicles, while having a clear understanding that when faced with a split second perilous decision, the vehicle will mirror the instinctual actions of a human driver, utilize deontological moral philosophy, and attempt to safeguard the lives of the car s ... Its definition in the most basic of forms, it is a pattern or outline that is used in storytelling, usually the myth. This pattern is found in many famous pieces from all around the world. In the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces from 1949 by author Joseph Campbell, this pattern is described in detail. Campbell describes that numerous myths from different times and areas of the world seem to share an identical structure in their storytelling. He summarized this with a well known quote found at the intro of his book: A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boon is the reward gained from surpassing their toughest trial throughout the trials brought forward. This boon can be a goal, a power, treasure, or even just a feeling. The boon is usually the climax of the story, also known as the highest point of tension in the story. Once the hero has achieved the boon, the hero must then decide whether to return to the ordinary world with the boon. If he chooses to return he will often face challenges on the return journey as well. If the hero succeeds in returning to the ordinary world with the boon, it can improve the world and change it forever. Again these are only some of the 17 stages of the monomyth. Campbell states that it is very rare the myth will contain all 17 stages; they can also be presented in various orders. This makes it sometimes difficult to spot the monomyth structure within a story. (Martin) George Lucas or the man I hope we would know by now as the creator of Star Wars, in various occasions has credited Campbell s theory of the monomyth as the inspiration for his intergalactic series of films. It is quite easy to pick out many of the structures of a monomyth within the films. Often this popular example is used in classrooms when teaching the monomyth since it makes it easily relatable to younger audiences. By 1975 George Lucas had written two drafts for Star Wars and even though they were already written up and completed he felt they were lacking. He knew his drafts lacked ... There are many interpretations of this title, but the general consensus is that in the heart of darkness, you cannot do good: you can only be less evil. The title refers to not only the physical lack of lightin the jungle, but also to the grim consequences of imperialism due to the stygian heart of mankind. The first meaning is that the heart of darkness refers to actual lack of light in the book, the jungle in particular. In the beginning of the novel, Marlow describes that the air was dark above Gravesend (3). This is foreshadowing of the looming darkness Marlow will face ahead. When Charlie reaches the edge of the jungle, he describes it as so dark green to be almost black (11). This refers to the caliginous jungle, but also the corruptive nature of the jungle as seen through the transformation of Kurtz. Another example of physical darkness occurs when darkness encroaches on Marlow and the listeners. Marlow describes it as being so pitch dark that we listeners could barely see each other (95). Marlow observes that the forest draws him in and seems beckon him to explore it. It had a treacherous appeal to the lurking death, to the hidden evil, to the profound darkness of its heart (36). Marlow recognizes the lightlessness, but is still drawn to it. This emphasizes the darkness every man and woman has within them. It is in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It takes a monumental experience to recognise discovery and to that extent the composer s manipulate their ideas on discovery and represent them in a way that is memorable. Robert Frost s Tuft of flowers , Mending wall and Jean Marc VallГ©e s Wild have intertwining ideas of Nature and Relationships that leads to emotional and intellectual discoveries. In this speech I will present to you my understanding of how Representations of discovery are made memorable through the composer s ways of communicating . In Robert Frost s Tuft of flowers , the connection of man and nature leads the composer to make an emotional discovery. Frosts unorthodox rhyming style of having 5 iambs in each line makes the poem unique and its quest to realising discovery unique. With that in mind by choosing an unusual form, Frost makes the idea apparent to me in a way that is memorable. Also Frost contrasts the flower with the cut grass shows that he has encased a connection between them and himself as he recognises the beauty of the flower in ...and led my eye to look/At a tall tuft of flowers beside a brook this new understanding lead him on the path of finding the emotional discovery. Through this poem, Frost showed me that discoveries can lead to refinding yourself and finding new perceptions and by demonstrating this idea he has further my understanding of discovery through the notion of making it memorable. In the notion of discovery, a connection with nature leads to an unparalleled growth in one self as shown by Jean Marc VallГ©e s Wild . Like Frost s Tuft of flowers , Wild shows the connection to nature is essential to the path of discovery. VallГ©e uses naturalistic lightning on the face of his character to shows the emotions, and expressions the character has on the various of landscape from the desert to the snow. The uses of the lighting highlights the changes of the characters emotion throughout her journey across the land and thus illustrates her new found discovery of her emotions. The Partition onf India The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India. Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and social conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in contemporary history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was focused on the political side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played an important role in manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani s testimony from Butalia s book, The Other Side of Silence:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Rani, people dying here, others dying there (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268) was something that happened every day, it was no surprise to her. Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India and Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife throughout her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268). Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed as a collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and brief statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to dwell into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s testimony was significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of view; it also revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected psychologically. This was also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and grievance. Her sensitivity and deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender. The analgesic mechanism of paracetamol has been suggested that the metabolites of paracetamol such as NAPQI, which act on TRPA1 receptors in the spinal cord, suppress the signal transduction from the superficial layers of the dorsal horn, therefore alleviating pain. The exact mechanisms by which COX is inhibited in various circumstances are still being discussed and this is because of the differences in activity of aspirin, paracetamol and other NSAIDs. With these differences it has been proposed that further COX enzymes may exist. A theory of how paracetamol may work is by the inhibition of the COX 3 isoform (a COX 1 splice variant). COX 3 has been expressed in dogs and it shows that this enzyme shares similarities to other COX enzymes, while producing pro inflammatory chemicals and is selectively inhibited by paracetamol. Introduction: DNA replication is one of the fundamental processes involved with the central dogma and is instrumental in the development of mutations, alternations and others changes that allow the process of evolution to operate and proceed leading to the biodiversity. In the process proposed by Watson and Crick (1953), the double helix unwinds to expose the bases in each strand of the DNA, where each of the two separate strands act as the template or molecular mould for the synthesis of a new molecule of DNA . As it is well known that the process of replication allows for the complementary base formation among the template strand and the newly synthesized DNA strand .this mechanism of complementary base pairing has resulted in the semi conservative mode of replication of the DNA molecule (Pray,2008). Stages of replication: The molecular mechanism of the process of replication is directed towards the fidelity of the DNA molecule. Along with numerous interacting enzymes and other molecules working in split second accuracy and timing to synthesize, proof read, repair and eventually produce a newly synthesized strand of DNA with error s at the rate of one per 100 million nucleotides (Alberts et al., 2002). The fundamental process of replication can be considered in three phases initiation, elongation and termination. Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960). Phaedra reemphasizes the importance of reputation in her speech, It would always be my choice to have my virtues known and honored. So when I do wrong I could not endure to see a circle of condemning witnesses (402 404). • 47. Pablo Picasso Guernica vs. Theodore Gericault s Raft of... For centuries artists have moved audiences through the use of pictures. As time progressed those images became more and more demanding of the viewer until they were meant to invoke a physical response. Perhaps the earliest account of such emotionally exact artwork is the 1818 piece, Raft of the Medusa, by Theodore Gericault. As time progressed people became more politically aware and involved and generations of art portrayed this. Pablo Picassos Guernica, created in 1937, is a great example of how modern times soon saw a peak in the occurrence of allegorical and politically packed artworks. In 1936 the Spanish government commissioned Picasso to paint a feature piece for their international exposition in Paris at the peak of World War II. Picasso was unsure of what to paint until in 1937 when Nazi warplanes bombed the Spanish town of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
