Correlation Between Professional Networking And The Film...
The purpose of this research paper is to examine whether or not professional networking plays a role
in the success of a film composer and if so, how significant that role is. This study will provide an
overview of the correlation between professional networking and the film music industry. The first
part of this paper will give a general overview of the film music industry and the type of experiences
one would have in the profession. The study will then look into more specific instances of professional
networking in the film music industry by analysing case studies of significant composers and how
their careers have been affected by professional networking.
While there is not really a shortage of film and television being created, breaking into the film music
industry can be quite difficult. Being a film composer requires a very broad spectrum of skills. You
need to be skilled at composing and producing music, that much is a given. But to really succeed you
need to have interpersonal and business skills. These skills are crucial to creating and maintaining
professional networks which are the key to getting work in this industry. In the end it really comes
down to being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. It is important to be
able to work with other people since there will be other people working on the same project as you.
You must be well skilled in communicating with directors to help create what they want because
sometimes a director

The Common Theme Of Martyrdom Within The Death Of Socrates...
Deanna Rose Palevo Professor Heller ART 105 07 Final Term Paper 12/06/2016 The Common Theme
of Martyrdom within The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara When walking
through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work contains one or a
few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include,
but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and
beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate
pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of
Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an
entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with
oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story
of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged
the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy
and politics. In 399 BC, Socrates was accused of impiety (specifically not believing in the gods that
Athens believed in) and corruption of youth. The jury of Athens decided that Socrates was guilty of

Rationale Scheme of Work
The rationale for my scheme of work (see appendix 1) is to meet both the learners needs and the
curriculum requirements. Edexcel is the awarding body who supply the syllabus which gives the
framework for delivery and assessment of the subject matter. The Edexcel ITQ Level 2 Certificate
curriculum requirements will be met by learners completing practical work related tasks. They will
learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations,
activities and demands. The content and structure are the most obvious features of any Scheme of

The Lasting Effects of the Columbian Exchange During the Age of Discovery
It should no longer come as any great surprise that Columbus was not the first to discover the
Americas Carthaginians, Vikings, and even St. Brendan may have set foot on the Western Hemisphere
long before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. But none of these incidental contacts made the impact that
Columbus did. Columbus and company were bound to bring more than the benefits of Christianity and
double entry bookkeeping to America. His voyages started the Columbian Exchange, a hemispherical
swap of peoples, plants, animals and diseases that transformed not only the world he had discovered
but also the one he had left.

He enormously increased the number of kinds of foods and quantities of food by both plant and
animal sources. New food crops have enabled people to live in places where they previously had only
slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo brought new changes to the European diet, helping
to improve eating and strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the exotic new
crops had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it was a weed in
the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t welcomed at first either;
Europeans found it unappetizing. But packing more calories per acre than any European grain, the
potato eventually became the dominant food of northern Europe s working class.
A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean for chocolate, lima
beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples. Sunflowers, petunias, marigolds
and poinsettias also made their way to Europe. Several other plants of importance include quinine,
tobacco, and sugar cane. Quinine is a malaria fighting plant found in the Peruvian Andes. Sugar cane
is especially important because of its impact on slavery. While originally a European plant, it thrived
in tropical American forests. Scholars estimate that each ton of sugar cost the life on one worker in the
New World. As Indians perished, African slaves

Woman´s Right on Abortions
Personal Choices Women s reproductive rights have been endangered from early history. A woman s
job included housework and child birth. Around 1920, women started receiving their choices and
rights. In the 21st century, women are looked at with fairness and receive equal opportunities, but
there is one right being stripped from women: the choice of using birth control and aborting
pregnancy. Society frowns upon aborting a fetus in the womb, but it fails to realize the circumstantial
standing each woman is placed in and should accept the decision a woman decides for her future
whether it is to use birth control or abort her pregnancy. Women today may have more choices but it
has not always been this way. Women of the past often didn t get much a choice about their sexuality
(Bringle). However by 1950s, a pill to prevent pregnancy was created. Though this contraception was
created, it was hard to get. A birth control advocate, Margaret Sanger, attacked legislative restrictions
on birth control , informed many women the uses and positive aspects of using contraception, and
encouraged doctors to give contraception guidance by opening the first birth control clinic in New
York in 1916 (Bringle). Even after the widespread information of birth control, the accessibility of it
today is low. This pill is a necessity for women in today s world and should be made more accessible.
To use contraception, a doctor has to prescribe it and this prescription is rarely covered by

The game toggles back and forth with scenes that put the player in control of exploring the

where the player is introduced to believe their decisions effect a different outcome to how the storyline

the choices you make. The story is tailored by how you play . On the contrary to this seemingly
straightforward statement, no matter how believable the game makes it seem, the players online

Mass Culture And The Culture Industry
Witnessing the crucial role that media played to dominate the population ideologically in both Nazi
Germany and America, Adorno and Horkheimer realized that there was an aberration, rather than a
development in the nature of culture. They created the concept culture industry to represent the
increasingly standardized and commodified media that was effected by capitalism, and used to
manipulate people opinions and behaviors. As time goes by, features of the culture industry remain
relevant today in many ways. This essay will critically review how the three selected articles below
have effectively employed the concept culture industry . In Culture industry reconsideration, Adorno
further developed his theory, which was firstly mentioned in dialectic of enlightenment, and
effectively explored the relationship between the culture industry and the mass. In the beginning of
this article Adorno clarified the reason why he has employed the term culture industry instead of the
mass culture , which is to reflect the true nature and characteristics of culture on that stage. In his point
of view, the mass culture represents the culture that spontaneously comes from the mass itself
(Adorno, 1963), it should emphasis the internal growth of the cultural products within the masses.
Whereas according to Adorno, this term could no longer represents the essence of culture, as he
though culture products are standardized produced and consumed to the mass in line, they are

Executive members also receive an annual 2% Rewards Check of up to $750.00 from Costco on all

Costco generally limit marketing and promotional activities to new warehouse openings, occasional
direct mail to prospective new members, and regular direct marketing programs (such as The Costco

and handouts) to existing members promoting selected merchandise. These practices result in lower
marketing expenses as compared to typical retailers.

Twenty-First Century Christianity
First century Christians founded their new identity on the understanding of being sinners, saved
through Christ Jesus, and true people of God. The Jews had a misinterpretation of the coming of the
Messiah and they did not acknowledge his resurrection and believed Jesus was cursed by God for
being crucified. It was a necessity for the Apostles to preach the Gospel with truth and bring
awareness to the people of the true interpretation of scripture. The Apostles pleaded the people to get
saved (2:40) and acknowledging their sin by repenting and get baptized (2:37 38). The opportunity of
repentance is a gift of God s mercy and grace to nullify our understanding and pride. Israelites
considered themselves God s holy people (22:3; 26:4 5) but they were sinning in ignorance (3:17). I
am a sinner in nature and I will either sin intentionally or unintentionally. Through Jesus Christ
crucifixion and resurrection, I am able to repent and ask for forgiveness with the confidence that my
sins will be wiped out (3:19). Repentance and being able to be baptized (8:37)not only in the name of

people are lost without Jesus (11:17 18; 10:43), there is a great need for Christians to evangelize the

Tupac Themes
Tupac Shakur Tupac Shakur had a lot to live for. His devoted fans, his fiancée Kidada Jones, and a

Tupac Amaru Shakur, or Lesane Parish Crooks, was born in East Harlem NYC June 16, 1971. His

Tupac was named after the South American Revolutionary Tupac Amaru. Before he started his music
career, Tupac began his career as a roadie back up dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital

around the violence and hardship in the inner cities, racism, and other issues that involved social
things. During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast West

Magic And Divination And Magic In The African Magic
The African magic can be transferred through various medium and modes. Some magic is scarce
while some exist on a daily basis. Some magic is pronounced in physical ceremonies while some have
become a routine. For instance, words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community
seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and
success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and pain have the potential to cause curses
and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct ceremonies to appease and seek
atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. It is believed that formal blessing is strong and so
are the curses. As such people avoid doing things that would earn them such curses, for example,
disrespecting parent. People can receive divination or curses through magic and witchcraft in the
African religion and specialists are tasked to facilitate the process.
Divination and cursing through magic and witchcraft
With magic, mystical powers can give people the ability to walk on fire, send curses and lucky charms
to people over distances. Depending on the occasions and the task, practitioners can change their
physical forms from a human body to animals like snakes, or cats. Practitioners can cause one to lose
their intellectual ability and even die by performing some gestures like spitting on the person or
touching them on certain parts of their body. Sometimes magicians can convert

Auggie is used to it but it does every once and awhile get on his nerves. While it also bothers Jessica

Wage and program quality data were collected from the Supplemental Information sheet (SIS) created

licensing such as acquiring a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) license; Level 2
corresponded to accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children

not NAEYC accredited and 102 (77%) were NAECY accredited. The wage per hour ranged from a
low of $ 8.50 to a high of $ 42.00. The total mean wage per hour for programs (n=105) was $ 14.50
(SD = $ 5). The mean wage per hour for Level 1 quality programs, (n=23), was $ 16 (SD = $ 6.9) and
for Level 2 quality programs was (n=82) $ 14 (SD = $ 4.5). The t test for independent means was used

Erikson s Eight Psychosocial Stages Of Human Development
Discussions about identity most often than not begins with Erikson s formulation of the eight
psychosocial stages of human development. Each success that is achieved is caused due to the
completion or overcoming of a task or crisis. When a child grows into adolescence, he/she arrives at
the fifth stage of human development. Identity versus role confusion is examined and experienced as
the young adult either overcomes the task by developing an identity or by facing a crisis of confusion.
At this point, the teenager is dealing with a unified and consistent sense of self that integrates pubertal
changes into a mature sexual identity, assumes adult social and occupational roles, and established
personal values and attitudes The adolescent is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because adolescence continues as long as society allows, the search for identity characterized by the
moratorium status may continue into young adulthood. In my opinion, if TCKs fall in the moratorium
status, it s not a negative result. Creating an identity for yourself when you are at that age is struggle
enough when you are situated in one culture for all of your existence; therefore it is understandable
that most TCKs find themselves taking longer in their identity crises than most teenagers. The
moratorium status allows TCKs to struggle through their crises without any need for commitment.
This may be seen as unhealthy but it is justifiable considering their confusion in regards to their
identity. The fourth status is diffusion, when adolescents avoid the challenge and refuse to make a
commitment. Most TCKs tend to fall in the last category. These developmental tasks like making a
commitment and handling a crisis tend to be interrupted due certain factors in their lives. Due to these
interruptions we see both early maturity and delayed adolescence in TCKs which negatively affect
their the development of their

Bullying Is A Form Of Abuse
Bullying can be defined as aggressive, intentional acts or behaviours that are carried out by a group or
an individual, repeatedly and over time against a victim, who cannot easily defend him or herself
(Smith et al, 2006, p1; Slonje and Smith, 2008). Bullying is a form of abuse that is based on an
imbalance of power (Shariff, 2005, p459; Smith et al, 2006, p1). Some examples of bullying include
name calling, spreading rumours, and sexual harassment. Increasingly, technology is being used as a
method of bullying, and where this is the case, the term cyberbullying is used (DCSF, 2009; Mishna et
al, 2009).
Cyberbullying was a term first used and defined by Canadian educator Bill Belsey around the turn of
the millennium (Campbell, 2005). Belsey defined cyberbullying as the use of information and
communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or
group that is intended to harm others (cited in Butler et al, 2008, p21). Belsey s definition of
cyberbullying is widely used in academic and government literature (Li, 2006; 2007a, p2; Smith et al,
2008; DCSF, 2009).
Traditional bullying, which can include face to face, verbal or physical altercations, differs from
cyberbullying in several ways (Smith et al, 2008; Slonje and Smith, 2008; Dilmac, 2009). For
instance, cyberbullying introduces technology, such as the internet and mobile phones, into the
equation, which provides a different route for the bully to target their

The Dangers Of Polish People In The Holocaust
In the graphic novel The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman, the Polish people were conveyed as
selfish and cruel for the actions they chose to carry out, protecting themselves before the Jews. I do
not necessarily believe the Polish people were as evil as the Germans during the Holocaust, but I
believe that in this world no one is perfect. Everyone has done things that they are not proud of as
human beings. I am convinced that the Poles are better than the Nazis because the Poles actually tried
to assist some Jews by hiding them in their homes. As humans, we cannot really know what we would
do in circumstances like the Holocaust unless we are faced with them. People may still judge the Poles
for their actions however, they were humans beings making a human decision. During the Holocaust,
there was a select few Polish people that were willing to risk their lives and provide refuge for Jews
that were in need of harboring. In the article One million Polish rescuers of hunted Jews? by Hans G
Furth, Furth discusses the number of rescuers that were executed as a result of hiding some Jews in
their homes. According to Furth, Thousands of Poles were executed for helping Jews (Furth 230). The
Polish people received the same punishment as the Jews when they were discovered by the Nazis
during the Holocaust. The Poles were murdered on the spot or burned alive with the Jewish victims.

At the beginning, our response to North Korea s HEU and plutonium programs was very hostile and
involved condemning them. Eventually, we took little baby steps to ease the tension. We also agreed to
talk to them, but limited the things we could talk about with them. At the very time all of this chaos is
happening, our relationship with the South Korea is reaching an all time low.
I think there are many things that the United States has to do in order to resolve the problems that are
occurring and to prevent more problems from happening in the future. The first thing that I think the
United States should do is to treat them as nicely as possible, even if it means going against what we
believe and letting them get away with bad behavior. In the long run it might be a bad thing to do
because it could influence other nations to think that they can walk over us and take advantage of us.
However, I think it would be the correct thing to do right now because the last thing anyone wants is a
nation that is angry with you that holds nuclear weapons. If, however, North Korea refuses to accept
our proposal for negotiations and does not agree with anything that we have to offer, I think the only
other option is to attack them with

Punishment vs. Rehabilitation
Abstract
In this paper you will read about the steady debate between the punishment model and rehabilitation
model. You will be able to understand each model s side and derive your personal option of which
model would work best for our country.
Punishment vs. Rehabilitation
Deciding methods of fixing bad behavior has been a discussion since the beginning of time. Parents
have debated the subject to the point that professionals such as psychologist have been asked to be
involved in the discussion. Many parents would often tell their children war stories of how their
parents beat them with switches or belts. Today, however, this behavior is not acceptable and if social
workers are called to a family s residence and this behavior is ... Show more content on

younger sister again, this was done in front of a crowd of people so the defendant was embarrasses

and the defendant turned himself in that Monday morning, after pleading guilty to his friend s death he
wrote a letter to the victims parents apologizing for his actions.
Effect on the Offender
Several studies have shown that the punishment model does not help the offender, they are placed in
the prison world with a determinant or inderminate sentence, pulled away from their family and
society as they have known it. The punishment model has shown to cause depression in the inmates
because they are isolated from their families and feel alone. (www.thebody.com)
On the other hand rehabilitation has found that inmates learn how to improve their lives by joining
drug treatments, getting their GED or a vocational trade because rehabilitation program goal is to get
the inmate back active in society and stay out of the criminal systems. Inmates who are involved in
this type of program are more likely to not return to prison and our able to be home with their families
and make a better life for themselves. ocial effect on society

Good Will Hunting and Bell Hooks Keeping Close to Home Essay
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The
promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges
that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these
obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors
in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
This synthesis will examine the motion picture Good Will Hunting and an essay by an author Bell
Hooks entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education. Both of these accounts tell of a struggle
that the protagonist character in the story had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout these sessions the promise of a higher education or success is shadowed by the aggression
that Will Hunting has to over come. Very defensive and isolated Will Hunting is befriended very
slowly by Sean McGuire to open up his emotional problem and to let them go. Will Hunting s inability
to trust, love and communicate handicaps him to do well in life with careers and relationships.
In the essay entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education, the author Bell Hooks tells of her
struggles when she goes off to the prestigious college Stanford University at the age of 18. Coming
from a working low class economic background hooks deals with ridicule from her family and the
difficulties of adjusting from a lower class to a higher class setting at Stanford. The dilemma that
Hooks face with her family is; she states, My parents had not been delighted that I had been accepted
and adamantly opposed my going so far from home (p. 161). Reason for this adamant feeling was that
Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn t really leave the house to go to school. It
was unheard of to leave a small town in the south and go to a big college out in the west. Especially if
Hooks was going to be by her self her parents did not like the idea that she would be far away from

Challenges Facing Law Enforcement Agencies Essay
In this writing assignment I will explain some greatest challenge facing law enforcement agencies
today. I will describe how the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies can interact and
accomplish their goals. I will also suggest some programs that will help improve their relationship.
Identify some of the challenges and solution in the overlapping of jurisdictions pose when combating
cybercrime. Discuss why I believe law enforcement in different states should work with one another in
when fight cyber crime.
There are a number of challenges that law enforcement agencies are facing like investigating internet
exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity. Other challenges are overlapping of agencies, the lack of
funding, and investigating exploitation, cyber stalking, obscenity, and the specific challenges with
overlapping of jurisdictions. I think the greatest challenge they face has been investigating
exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity is issues with evidence and detection. The fact that data on
the computer can be deleted, modified, or destroyed can hinder the investigation process. The nature
of the evidence makes it difficult to investigate cybercrime. Because digital evidence is a collection of
numbers that are fragile and can be lost, damaged or changed. It is always important to protect and
maintain the chain of custody but the nature of the evidence makes this daunting task very difficult. It
is very easy for investigators to contaminate the

Religious Beliefs In The American Colonies
The definition of religious liberty differs in every colony. Every colony has a different belief some
believe in god and others don t, but no one was free to be choose on what religion people wanted to
follow. In the American colonies were largely non Catholics. Although some other religions were
practiced in most colonies, the Puritans in Massachusetts established a new law that no all religions
could be practice. Pennsylvania was the first to follow those rules from court. Spanish colonies were
Catholics, there was no other religion to follow. When people got tired and tried to protested about a
new religion they would be persecuted and would send them to another place. French colonies, in their
Colonial life was some large Catholic believers. Religious beliefs of the Dutch vary. ... Show more

1645 the English settlers were mainly Puritans who came to American in pursuit for liberty. Religious
acceptance and uncontrolled human conduct were not part of their freedom. John Winthrop governor
of the Puritans Colony at Massachusetts Bay came up with the idea of two different kinds of liberty.

Asch Line Experiment Paper
Taking each of these experiments into mind, my research group, consisting of Brian Muriithi, Cade
Curran, Champlin Janz, Eric Altilanochir, and myself, decided to conduct the same study in 1951 with
our own Asch Line experiment. The purpose of our experiment was similar to the one of Asch s in
1951: to examine the extent of the effect social pressure from the majority of a group has on a person.
For this experiment, we drew a series of three different lines on different sheets of poster paper. Two
lines were similar, while one was radically different from the rest. For each trial, we would place two
confederates, which are stooges that have prior knowledge of the experiment to help us collect data, in
a room with a single participant. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would give, and the responses and behavior of the participants themselves. And if there were no
correlation between the two variables, then our null hypothesis would be accepted. Our experiment s
results also could have been affected by a myriad of confounding variables (factors we couldn t factor
for): gender of liars, race of liars, grade of liars, reputation of liars, confidence of liars, diction used by
liars, different liars in between trials, relationship between test subject and liars, the liars coming in
from a separate room, sunlight in the room (Small, but still potentially significant), unorganized
feeling of the room, two upperclassmen conducting the experiment on underclassmen, sight variation
between speed of questions and diction, changing incorrect answers of lead liars, changing entrance
time between liars, test subjects together in a room before experiment, test subjects from same

Pre Screening For Disabilities And Genetic Enhancement
Pre screening for disabilities and genetic enhancement are vital factors in the decision to place
restrictions for selective genetic abortion. All human life should be of equal worth, supporting the
ideal that life and death decisions for seriously compromised newborns should not be based on the
quality of life (CITE 3). Screening for genetic diseases through the use of in vitro fertilization, or IVF,
limits and excludes those with disabilities from our society, exposing limits on morality. These include
transgression of divine laws, transgression of natural laws, introduction of an unacceptable risk of
harm, introduction of a threat to genetic diversity, introduction of a threat to one s common genetic
heritage, paradoxical counterproductively, a misuse of social resources, a widened gap between the
haves and have nots , promotion of social conformity and homogeneity, and lastly undermining free
choice (Fisher, 2013). From these points it is important to recognize the impact it has upon our society,
and how we perceive, and behave towards those with a disability. The practise of introducing selective
abortion through the use of IVF and genetic testing will create a hostile environment going forward
into the future for those who escape detection before birth. This will cause potential discrimination
against those with a disability, making them liable to be looked down upon by the community and
unfit to be alive (Fisher, 2013). Thus this can create a second class or even a

Symbolism Of Gatsby
In the book The Great Gatsby I ve been able to characterize Gatsby as a polite man explaining that he
was a very helpful man and cared about others. Gatsby is also characterized as a very wealthy man.
He lives in a big mansion all alone, he is a resident in a town called West egg. Their is a symbol that I
recognized throughout the movie, Gatsby s Mansion it symbolizes two broader themes of the novel.
First, it represents the grandness and emptiness of the 1920s boom: Gatsby justifies living in it all
alone by filling the house weekly with celebrated people. Second, the house is the physical symbol of
Gatsby s love for Daisy. Gatsby used his new money to create a place that he thought rivaled the
houses of the old money that had taken her away. Gatsby throws these big parties to get money so that
he can spend it on other things like Daisy for an example. West Egg is where a lot of wealthy people
live. It is a very nice place there are nice shops and restaurants. Gatsby states a quote about his
wealthiness. Old money, new money, no money. He is describing that anybody that has money should
use it wisely. Their is a man named Nick, he is a resident at West egg and lives almost next to Gatsby s
house and they like to talk and spend time together. Nick had a cousin named Daisy Buchanan. She is
married to Tom Buchanan. However, she is having an affair with Gatsby. Not to mention Tom already
knows that Daisy and Gatsby are together and having an affair with one another.

Analysis of The Woman Who Walked into Doors by Roddy Doyle
The Woman Who Walked Into Doors is a novel written by Roddy Doyle, set in Ireland in the early
1990s. This story combines love and violence and shows how the two can go together in one marriage.
The story is written like a diary of Paula Spencer s good and bad memories in her life and gives the
reader the impression that Paula is sharing her life story with us and she is also narrating her life as we
read.
The story begins with a prison guard arriving at Mrs Spencer s door to give Paula the unfortunate
news that her husband, Charlo has died. Then Paula explains the marital status between her and her
husband, which is that they are separated. She talks of their wedding, ... Show more content on

She was married to Charles, better known as Charlo for eighteen years and has four children, Nicola
aged eighteen, John Paul aged sixteen, Leanne aged twelve and Jack aged five and is thirty nine years
of age herself. Her fifth child died during pregnancy, no thanks to the brutal attacks she experienced.
She has become a widow, and before her husband s death, was separated from him. Her father died of
cancer. She has three sisters, one of which is dead and three brothers. Her mother is alive and well.
Paula is an alcoholic and blames it on Charlo because of the horrendous way he treated her. To try and
block this out she started drinking heavily. She fell deeper and deeper into the grip of alcoholism. She
found it made her forget about reality and often made her feel calmer. However, she never drank until
her children were in bed, thus sparing them the heartache of seeing their mother in such a drunken
state. She works as a cleaner, mainly in houses and she cleans an office building on Tuesdays. She
hides her alcohol in the shed and throws the key into the garden until she needs it at night when she
will go and find it. She is very proud of her children because they have helped her survive through the
harder times. Her only main concern is the welfare of her children. She tells us that her favourite child
is Jack, the youngest. Her oldest son, John Paul is living elsewhere and by the time he reaches sixteen,
he is

Why Bollenbach Opened His Bidding at $55 per Share
1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his likely
strategy? The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess estimate of
$67.94. Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars
represented a 29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be resistant of any
attempt to be acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to negotiate a friendly
merger at year end 1996. The 55 dollar benchmark created an expectation for ITT management to
achieve that level, or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to investors it is a real offer.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Money Laundering Scott Rothstein In July of 2010, Scott Rothstein was
sentenced to 50 years in prison for running a US$1.2 billion Ponzi scheme from his Florida law firm.
Rothstein had two types of schemes. He persuaded clients/investors to purchase hundreds of millions
of dollars of structured settlements at a discounted price so that he could generate immediate revenue
from false settlements. Through the use of his law firm he fabricated court orders, forging the
signatures of federal court judges, that showed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The paper trail would give warranted reasons for suspicion. The con revolved around the law firm
settling numerous lawsuits and that the plaintiffs wanted to expedite the receiving of their funds.
Rothstein would sell their settlements at a lump sum discount so they could receive their funds up
front to another individual/firm. In return, Rothstein promised investors substantial returns on the full
value of the fraudulent settlement. Alongside a financial review, I would inquire into Rothstein s
personal communication with staff and external colleagues. Obtaining computer, email and telephone
information would give me the greatest access to his communication. I would also contact all of his
registered clients and confirm their information with the information Rothstein has provided. Three

interest purchasers out the to buy out the settlements at a discounted rate. Layering Phase: Move
money around. Once he created the settlement, he would receive cash payments for them at a
discounted rate. In another ploy, in order for Rothstein to recover the money, his clients had to post
bonds worth millions of dollars with his firm. Integration: Rothstein would move the funds in several
ways so that it would offer the illusion of being legitimate sources of income. In several cases, he

Abuse Of Power In Game Of Thrones
This episode did not disappoint sleazy scheming, sibling in fighting, death by burning, and the ever
present abuse of power. Basically, everything you could ever want from Game of Thrones (we don t

society is amazing, but these fine folks are sticking with the classics in this season s opener: misuse of
position and Crown resources.
Cersei gets her abuse on early. Like way early, as in 20 years ago early. GoT gets its first flashback

  • 2. Correlation Between Professional Networking And The Film... The purpose of this research paper is to examine whether or not professional networking plays a role in the success of a film composer and if so, how significant that role is. This study will provide an overview of the correlation between professional networking and the film music industry. The first part of this paper will give a general overview of the film music industry and the type of experiences one would have in the profession. The study will then look into more specific instances of professional networking in the film music industry by analysing case studies of significant composers and how their careers have been affected by professional networking. While there is not really a shortage of film and television being created, breaking into the film music industry can be quite difficult. Being a film composer requires a very broad spectrum of skills. You need to be skilled at composing and producing music, that much is a given. But to really succeed you need to have interpersonal and business skills. These skills are crucial to creating and maintaining professional networks which are the key to getting work in this industry. In the end it really comes down to being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. It is important to be able to work with other people since there will be other people working on the same project as you. You must be well skilled in communicating with directors to help create what they want because sometimes a director ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Common Theme Of Martyrdom Within The Death Of Socrates... Deanna Rose Palevo Professor Heller ART 105 07 Final Term Paper 12/06/2016 The Common Theme of Martyrdom within The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara When walking through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work contains one or a few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include, but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy and politics. In 399 BC, Socrates was accused of impiety (specifically not believing in the gods that Athens believed in) and corruption of youth. The jury of Athens decided that Socrates was guilty of ... Edexcel is the awarding body who supply the syllabus which gives the framework for delivery and assessment of the subject matter. The Edexcel ITQ Level 2 Certificate curriculum requirements will be met by learners completing practical work related tasks. The Lasting Effects of the Columbian Exchange During the Age of Discovery It should no longer come as any great surprise that Columbus was not the first to discover the Americas Carthaginians, Vikings, and even St. Brendan may have set foot on the Western Hemisphere long before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. But none of these incidental contacts made the impact that Columbus did. Columbus and company were bound to bring more than the benefits of Christianity and double entry bookkeeping to America. His voyages started the Columbian Exchange, a hemispherical swap of peoples, plants, animals and diseases that transformed not only the world he had discovered but also the one he had left. New food crops have enabled people to live in places where they previously had only slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo brought new changes to the European diet, helping to improve eating and strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the exotic new crops had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it was a weed in the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t welcomed at first either; Europeans found it unappetizing. But packing more calories per acre than any European grain, the potato eventually became the dominant food of northern Europe s working class. A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean for chocolate, lima beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples. Sunflowers, petunias, marigolds and poinsettias also made their way to Europe. Several other plants of importance include quinine, tobacco, and sugar cane. Quinine is a malaria fighting plant found in the Peruvian Andes. Sugar cane is especially important because of its impact on slavery. While originally a European plant, it thrived in tropical American forests. Scholars estimate that each ton of sugar cost the life on one worker in the New World. • 6. Woman´s Right on Abortions Personal Choices Women s reproductive rights have been endangered from early history. A woman s job included housework and child birth. Around 1920, women started receiving their choices and rights. In the 21st century, women are looked at with fairness and receive equal opportunities, but there is one right being stripped from women: the choice of using birth control and aborting pregnancy. Society frowns upon aborting a fetus in the womb, but it fails to realize the circumstantial standing each woman is placed in and should accept the decision a woman decides for her future whether it is to use birth control or abort her pregnancy. Women today may have more choices but it has not always been this way. Women of the past often didn t get much a choice about their sexuality (Bringle). However by 1950s, a pill to prevent pregnancy was created. Though this contraception was created, it was hard to get. A birth control advocate, Margaret Sanger, attacked legislative restrictions on birth control , informed many women the uses and positive aspects of using contraception, and encouraged doctors to give contraception guidance by opening the first birth control clinic in New York in 1916 (Bringle). Even after the widespread information of birth control, the accessibility of it today is low. This pill is a necessity for women in today s world and should be made more accessible. To use contraception, a doctor has to prescribe it and this prescription is rarely covered by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Interreactivity, Empathy And Complicity In The Walking... The game toggles back and forth with scenes that put the player in control of exploring the environment as well as following the games guideline. There lyes a moral misconception in the game where the player is introduced to believe their decisions effect a different outcome to how the storyline will turn out. Once starting each episode, a black screen displays the words, This game series adapts to the choices you make. The story is tailored by how you play . On the contrary to this seemingly straightforward statement, no matter how believable the game makes it seem, the players online experience fades in and out. The player originally feels obligated to be responsible for certain characters traumatic deaths, but in actuality of the game, is not since the outcome is pre planned regardless of choice. Offline and online continuity (swapping back an forth between online and offline ) proves the false justification of The Walking Dead[s] claims and puts the player in seemingly relevant irrelevant scenarios. Telltales game exploits the players empathy that causes the player to think they are following an inter(re)activity through irrelevant decision making. An article by Smethurst, Toby, and Stef Craps, Playing with Trauma: Interreactivity, Empathy and Complicity in The Walking Dead Video Game. , suggests the games ability to involve the player in the game world through inter(re)activity (Smethurst and Craps). • 8. Mass Culture And The Culture Industry Witnessing the crucial role that media played to dominate the population ideologically in both Nazi Germany and America, Adorno and Horkheimer realized that there was an aberration, rather than a development in the nature of culture. They created the concept culture industry to represent the increasingly standardized and commodified media that was effected by capitalism, and used to manipulate people opinions and behaviors. As time goes by, features of the culture industry remain relevant today in many ways. This essay will critically review how the three selected articles below have effectively employed the concept culture industry . In Culture industry reconsideration, Adorno further developed his theory, which was firstly mentioned in dialectic of enlightenment, and effectively explored the relationship between the culture industry and the mass. In the beginning of this article Adorno clarified the reason why he has employed the term culture industry instead of the mass culture , which is to reflect the true nature and characteristics of culture on that stage. In his point of view, the mass culture represents the culture that spontaneously comes from the mass itself (Adorno, 1963), it should emphasis the internal growth of the cultural products within the masses. Whereas according to Adorno, this term could no longer represents the essence of culture, as he though culture products are standardized produced and consumed to the mass in line, they are ... • 11. Twenty-First Century Christianity First century Christians founded their new identity on the understanding of being sinners, saved through Christ Jesus, and true people of God. The Jews had a misinterpretation of the coming of the Messiah and they did not acknowledge his resurrection and believed Jesus was cursed by God for being crucified. It was a necessity for the Apostles to preach the Gospel with truth and bring awareness to the people of the true interpretation of scripture. The Apostles pleaded the people to get saved (2:40) and acknowledging their sin by repenting and get baptized (2:37 38). The opportunity of repentance is a gift of God s mercy and grace to nullify our understanding and pride. Israelites considered themselves God s holy people (22:3; 26:4 5) but they were sinning in ignorance (3:17). I am a sinner in nature and I will either sin intentionally or unintentionally. Through Jesus Christ crucifixion and resurrection, I am able to repent and ask for forgiveness with the confidence that my sins will be wiped out (3:19). • 12. Tupac Themes Tupac Shakur Tupac Shakur had a lot to live for. His devoted fans, his fiancée Kidada Jones, and a dream to help children from a background like his own. And yet, he still belonged to a violent world. Tupac Amaru Shakur, or Lesane Parish Crooks, was born in East Harlem NYC June 16, 1971. His mother Afeni Skakur, and his father Billy Garland were active members in the Black Panther Party. Tupac was named after the South American Revolutionary Tupac Amaru. Before he started his music career, Tupac began his career as a roadie back up dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist. Most of the themes in Shakur s songs revolved around the violence and hardship in the inner cities, racism, and other issues that involved social things. During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers, and record label staff members. • 13. Magic And Divination And Magic In The African Magic The African magic can be transferred through various medium and modes. Some magic is scarce while some exist on a daily basis. Some magic is pronounced in physical ceremonies while some have become a routine. For instance, words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and pain have the potential to cause curses and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct ceremonies to appease and seek atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. It is believed that formal blessing is strong and so are the curses. As such people avoid doing things that would earn them such curses, for example, disrespecting parent. People can receive divination or curses through magic and witchcraft in the African religion and specialists are tasked to facilitate the process. Divination and cursing through magic and witchcraft With magic, mystical powers can give people the ability to walk on fire, send curses and lucky charms to people over distances. Depending on the occasions and the task, practitioners can change their physical forms from a human body to animals like snakes, or cats. Erikson s Eight Psychosocial Stages Of Human Development Discussions about identity most often than not begins with Erikson s formulation of the eight psychosocial stages of human development. Each success that is achieved is caused due to the completion or overcoming of a task or crisis. When a child grows into adolescence, he/she arrives at the fifth stage of human development. Identity versus role confusion is examined and experienced as the young adult either overcomes the task by developing an identity or by facing a crisis of confusion. At this point, the teenager is dealing with a unified and consistent sense of self that integrates pubertal changes into a mature sexual identity, assumes adult social and occupational roles, and established personal values and attitudes The adolescent is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because adolescence continues as long as society allows, the search for identity characterized by the moratorium status may continue into young adulthood. In my opinion, if TCKs fall in the moratorium status, it s not a negative result. Creating an identity for yourself when you are at that age is struggle enough when you are situated in one culture for all of your existence; therefore it is understandable that most TCKs find themselves taking longer in their identity crises than most teenagers. The moratorium status allows TCKs to struggle through their crises without any need for commitment. This may be seen as unhealthy but it is justifiable considering their confusion in regards to their identity. The fourth status is diffusion, when adolescents avoid the challenge and refuse to make a commitment. Most TCKs tend to fall in the last category. These developmental tasks like making a commitment and handling a crisis tend to be interrupted due certain factors in their lives. Bullying is a form of abuse that is based on an imbalance of power (Shariff, 2005, p459; Smith et al, 2006, p1). Some examples of bullying include name calling, spreading rumours, and sexual harassment. Increasingly, technology is being used as a method of bullying, and where this is the case, the term cyberbullying is used (DCSF, 2009; Mishna et al, 2009). Cyberbullying was a term first used and defined by Canadian educator Bill Belsey around the turn of the millennium (Campbell, 2005). Belsey defined cyberbullying as the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group that is intended to harm others (cited in Butler et al, 2008, p21). Belsey s definition of cyberbullying is widely used in academic and government literature (Li, 2006; 2007a, p2; Smith et al, 2008; DCSF, 2009). Traditional bullying, which can include face to face, verbal or physical altercations, differs from cyberbullying in several ways (Smith et al, 2008; Slonje and Smith, 2008; Dilmac, 2009). For instance, cyberbullying introduces technology, such as the internet and mobile phones, into the equation, which provides a different route for the bully to target their ... I do not necessarily believe the Polish people were as evil as the Germans during the Holocaust, but I believe that in this world no one is perfect. Everyone has done things that they are not proud of as human beings. I am convinced that the Poles are better than the Nazis because the Poles actually tried to assist some Jews by hiding them in their homes. As humans, we cannot really know what we would do in circumstances like the Holocaust unless we are faced with them. Some of the problems that were brought up in this article were North Korea s plan to restart a plutonium based nuclear program at Yongbyon, North Korea s plan to build a new highly enriched uranium (HEU) nuclear program, and the tension that emerged between the United States and South Korea. Even though many problems were occurring, there were some positive things that were happening at the time. The United States began negotiating with North Korea and South Korea about establishing railroad links, demining portions of the demilitarized zone, allowing athletes to compete in the Asian games, and allowing abductees to visit Japan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There also have been various reasons why North Korea revealed to us their HEU plan. One theory is that they wanted us to notice them. They did not want us to disengage and isolate from them. At the beginning, our response to North Korea s HEU and plutonium programs was very hostile and involved condemning them. Eventually, we took little baby steps to ease the tension. We also agreed to talk to them, but limited the things we could talk about with them. At the very time all of this chaos is happening, our relationship with the South Korea is reaching an all time low. I think there are many things that the United States has to do in order to resolve the problems that are occurring and to prevent more problems from happening in the future. The first thing that I think the United States should do is to treat them as nicely as possible, even if it means going against what we believe and letting them get away with bad behavior. In the long run it might be a bad thing to do because it could influence other nations to think that they can walk over us and take advantage of us. • 27. Pre Screening For Disabilities And Genetic Enhancement Pre screening for disabilities and genetic enhancement are vital factors in the decision to place restrictions for selective genetic abortion. All human life should be of equal worth, supporting the ideal that life and death decisions for seriously compromised newborns should not be based on the quality of life (CITE 3). Screening for genetic diseases through the use of in vitro fertilization, or IVF, limits and excludes those with disabilities from our society, exposing limits on morality. These include transgression of divine laws, transgression of natural laws, introduction of an unacceptable risk of harm, introduction of a threat to genetic diversity, introduction of a threat to one s common genetic heritage, paradoxical counterproductively, a misuse of social resources, a widened gap between the haves and have nots , promotion of social conformity and homogeneity, and lastly undermining free choice (Fisher, 2013). From these points it is important to recognize the impact it has upon our society, and how we perceive, and behave towards those with a disability. The practise of introducing selective abortion through the use of IVF and genetic testing will create a hostile environment going forward into the future for those who escape detection before birth. This will cause potential discrimination against those with a disability, making them liable to be looked down upon by the community and unfit to be alive (Fisher, 2013).
