How Did The Quattrocento Influence The Renaissance
During the period of Quattrocento in Italy, individuals were part of elite circles and embraced
humanism, an emphasis on education and on expanding knowledge (especially of classical
antiquity), the exploration of individual s potential and a desire to excel, and a commitment to civic
responsibility and moral duty (pg.560). During the Quattrocento, Italyenjoyed an affluence of
artistic flair. The artistic accomplishments, the expansion of humanism, and economic boom
cultivated the Renaissance, and forever altering the direction and approach of art in the Western
World. During this time, Italy witnessed a constant change in its political and economic levels
including the shift of power amidst the numerous city states. Individuals of high status and those

The High Renaissance was a period between 1495 and the death of Leonardo da Vinci in 1519 and
the death of Raphael in 1520. The High Renaissance retained the same style and values as the
Renaissance with these new emerging artists Leonardo and Raphael. During the Late Renaissance
(16th century) there was an interest in classical culture and perspective however, a new style called
mannerism emerged which, challenged Renaissance naturalism almost as soon as Raphael has been
laid to rest (pg.600). Unlike Quattrocento, the period of Cinquecento pertained exclusively to
outstanding quality both technically and aesthetically of the art and architecture that was produced
during this time. Their art during this time demonstrated new scientific discoveries about man and
nature. One of the most notable painters during this time was Leonardo da Vinci, who believed that
science and art should be intertwined to envision a more realistic view of the

Examples Of Secular Humanism
Secular Humanism
What is Secular Humanism? Well I will be describing it to you throughout this essay. Secular
Humanism is basically a humanist way of thinking. This idea revolves around people believing in
a naturalist type world where people don t believe in a higher power to solve problems. It is mostly
about human reasoning, social justice, and naturalism where you make calls and judgments based
on what you think is right and wrong and not what someone else said in a book.
Now for the definitions gathered from multiple books. The first definition, Any set of moral
principles or school of moral philosophy whose values do not derive from religion or believe in the
supernatural, from the resource book titled, Ethics Revised Edition, ... Show more content on

Furthermore, we have the different labels that are tagged with Secular humanism. There are many
different names for this particular idea simply because there are so many versions all over the
world, but here are a few that I have noticed while reading through book after book. There are
names like, Naturalist [which I have used above a few times], Anti Religion, Non Theism, Atheism,
Agnosticism, Theism, Freethought, and many others from different countries. Depending on how
people live their life as a Secular Humanist they have either more intense or less intense names for
those whom are willing to give themselves that title.
Lastly, we get to the examples of Secular Humanism. There are actually a lot more people who
were Secular Humanists then I thought, but I don t know them all without looking it up on the
internet so I ll just list the ones that are mentioned in Paul Kurtz book What is Secular Humanism?
Here are the people Kurtz listed in his book from history, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Galileo,
Giordano Bruno, David Hume, Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Michel de Montaigne,
Gianozzo, Manetti, Marsilio Ficino, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Bertand Russell, John Dewey,
Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Paul Sartre, and many others. All of these people were either scientists
or philosophers in some shape or form. So, throughout history we have had a lot

Hollywood Movies In The 1960s
In the late 1960s, the New Hollywood era approached a new style of filming geared towards
different generations of people. Leading up to new Hollywood, the 1960s brought devastation to
the film industry. With the massive production of televisions along with the migration of millions
to suburbs away from the cities, movie theaters lost their popularity very quickly. Fewer films
were being made, thus hurting Hollywood in every way possible. However, as the late 1960s
approached, the new Hollywood era arose with new ways to attract movie goers once more.
Although, the movies released started to attract younger generations, so the industry capitalized on
this trend by releasing cheaper movies, of which some became critically acclaimed. By looking...

In doing so, the industry was able to make similar, cheap movies that attracted more and more
teenagers. Movies like monster movies and outlaw movies made the most money which helped
Hollywood get back on their feet. Outlaw movies like Bonnie and Clyde and Easy Rider became
popular because they both have similar plot lines that are based on going against the system and
fighting the man . We can see a similarity with these two movies as they both break the law and
run away to become free. For example, Clyde gets Bonnie and others hooked on robbing banks
to fight the Great Depression they are currently in. They break the law, fall in love, have gun
battles with the cops, and generally have a fun time with it. Teenagers are always interested in
this type of action and getting back at the system. In Easy Rider, Captain America and Billy
make a huge drug deal and run off with their money, smoke marijuana all day long, have sex, and
do other substances along their journey. This outlaw ish behavior was what teenagers and young
adults were doing at this time. In the late 1960s, marijuana and other substances became largely
popular, rock and roll was popular, all of the things Captain America and Billy do could be very
similar to what was actually going on in America at the time; therefore the audience can relate to
the characters. Although different movies entirely, both Bonnie and Clyde and Easy Rider
exemplify through their similar plot lines of what the new Hollywood industry came out with in
order to satisfy their

Paul Cezanne s Still Life With Bowl Of Curacao Oranges
This essay will discuss the significant similarities and differences between Paul CГ©zanne s work,
Still Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears painted in 1880 90 and Louise Moillon s work, Still Life
with Bowl of Curaçao Oranges painted in 1634.
Although both painters were born in France, they were painting during time periods. Moillon was
born in 1609 in Paris and was painting during the Baroque era, which encompassed intense shadow
and rich colours (Harrison, 2010). Cezanne was born in 1839 in Aix en Providence and was
paining in the Post Impressionism era, which included thick applications of paint and had a more
expressive effect (Harrison, 2010). Both works are created with oil paint, however, Cezanne has
chosen to paint his work on canvas, whereas Moillon s work is displayed on panel. Both works are
of similar size, Cezanne s canvas is 46 x 56cm and Moillon s panel is 46 x 65cm. ... Show more

Moillon displays a bowl of Curacao oranges, that originate from the Dutch West Indies, with the
leaves still attached and one single lemon resting on the top (Harrison, 2010). The bowl which
the fruit is in is significant as it was made of porcelain. Porcelain was an expensive import from
China and was often featured in still life painting by French and Dutch artists (Harrison, 2010)
which give the painting a rich and expensive tone. The composition looks formal and posed and
the lighting in the painting is dramatic and creates harsh shadows which gives a more realistic
feel. This painting has a wide tonal range as there are strong contrasts between the lightest and
darkest parts which creates a strong effect. Moillon uses linear brushwork to give a smooth texture
to the painting (Inside Art, 2010) and poses the fruit close to the picture plane which give the
impression of being able to reach out and grab the

College Students and Sub-culture
Sub cultures are something everyone is a part of in any society they live in. Everyone lives in some
kind of culture; everyone has an ethnic background, a social standing, possible political, moral, and
religious views and each of these items submits that person into multiple sub groups within their
culture. I, myself, am a part of numerous sub cultures.
Starting with the largest I am a human being; I live and function as a human and not as an animal
or plant. This seems a little farfetched to apply as a sub culture but it is a proven fact that even
some animal groups have communities and cultures of their own. Also, there are even some
humans who choose to live an animalistic lifestyle. In addition, I am Caucasian or white ... Show

With this being said that means that I am also part of a popular sub culture within American
Universities. Although, U.S. News reported in 2012 that Communication Studies was not among
the top five most popular majors at Troy University. According to these statistics students whose
choses major is Communication Studies make up less than 7% of the student population (U.S.
News). So although I can identify with many in this sub culture within America I cannot relate with
nearly as many people of this sub culture at Troy University. I can still create relationships with
college students in general despite my major.
There are not many nonverbal factors to analyze for this sub culture but there are quite a few
verbal factors. College students have a language of their own. They know the struggles of class
schedules, club meetings, registration, living on a dime, and buying books dirt cheap. This verbal
code often disconnects college students from people similar to their age due to the fact that much
of the subjects to be spoken about are quite different. This is not to say that college students cannot
communicate with non college students but they often find it easier to relate to those who
understand their lingo, joys, struggles, and more.
The societal class that college attendees belong to has always had the stigma of being the haves of
society. In recent years; however, many who attend college come from

History Of Marketing And The Marketing Strategy
The history of marketing can be traced back to the longest possible time probably further than you
thought. It will not be an exaggeration to say that it is as old as civilization itself. The probability
of success of any business lies in the marketing strategy it adopts. Simply put, if you are not
marketingyour business, you are in for a loss. While this concept remained unchanged, the ways of
marketing have changed several folds over the last few centuries.
1450 1700 Printed Advertisements Appears

advertising started with the invention of moveable type , which made mass printing possible for the

Fruits and vegetables were sold in the city square in the carts and wagons and their proprietors used
street callers (town criers) to announce their whereabouts for the convenience of the customers.
In the 18th century weekly advertisements began to be featured in newspapers in England. These
early print advertisements were mainly used to promote books, newspapers and research papers,
which became increasingly affordable with advances in the printing press; and medicines, which
were increasingly in demand as disease ravaged Europe.
1730 s Magazines Used as a Marketing Tool
One of the earliest examples of magazine is Erbauliche Monaths Unterredungen, a literary and
philosophy magazine, which was first published in 1663 in Germany. The Gentleman s Magazine
which was first published in 1731 in London, is considered as the first general interest magazine.
Edward Cave, who edited The Gentleman s Magazine under the pen name Sylvanus Urban , was
the first one to use the term magazine, which was derived from the Arabic makhazin (or,
storehouses). One of the oldest consumer magazines still in print is The Scots Magazine, which
was first published in 1739. But soon the concept of magazine as marketing tools lost its

Donne, And Randall Jarrell s Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
How do you view death in the 21st century? Throughout history, the concept of death has taken
many forms. Many people consider death as something that is terrifying and horrific, but there are
some who view death as a peaceful stepping off point into a blissful eternity. Some prominent poets
that have shared their different perspectives regarding deathinclude John Donne, Emily Dickinson,
and Randall Jarrell. John Donne was an influential English poet of the 17th century, Emily
Dickinson was a distinguished American poet in the 19th century, and Randall Jarrell was a well
known American poet of the 20th century. Although John Donne s Death be not Proud, Emily

But, in contrast, the speaker is a dead WW2 soldier who describes how the job of a ball turret
gunner is a death sentence. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell begins the poem with,
From my mother s sleep I fell into the State, / And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze (1
2). Jarrell opens the poem by comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to that of his
mother s womb. The fact that Jarrell is comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to
his mother s womb is quite ironic because he juxtaposes two things where one symbolizes life,
and the other symbolizes death. Jarrell continues to convey his theme of death when he
describes how the speaker is off the ground and flying. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell
writes, Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life (3). Jarrell is foreshadowing the death
of the speaker in this line. Jarrell knew that once the speaker was off the ground and in the air,
the speaker was on a suicide mission. Most ball turret gunners lives in WW2 were short lived.
Since they were placed under the belly of the bomber aircraft, if the aircraft was shot down, most
planes landed on their bellies, and as a result, the ball turret gunners were killed. In the last lines
of Jarrell s poem, Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, he states, I woke to black flak and the
nightmare fighters. / When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose (4 5). Jarrell s
views on death highlight that he is against the unnecessary loss of life. Jarrell is protesting that the
job of the ball turret gunner should not have been a job because it was almost guaranteed to be a
suicide mission. Jarrell emphasizes his philosophy by including the gruesome visual of people
washing out the body of the ball turret gunner with a

The Intelligence Gathering And Counterterrorism Measures...
This paper will investigate the intelligence gathering and counterterrorism measures undergone after
the 1998 bombings leading up to the 2013 Mall shootings to determine the effectiveness of the
measures, and analyze the underlying structural impediments to counterterrorism and intelligence,
the inherent challenges, and opportunities An analysis of why Kenya continues to suffer sporadic
attacks will follow, and recommendations on what additional intelligence reform measures can be
taken will be included in this report. The paper s main finding is that while Kenya has done a
moderately successful job of enacting policy reforms that strike an acceptable balance between civil
liberties and public security, it has significant improvements to make in the intelligence gathering
area, and it also has not adequately addressed the issue of inequality that lead to disenfranchisement
and radicalization of educated and uneducated youth and the unemployed. It therefore requires
further changes in order to handle the long term threat of terrorism.
It will begin with more in depth descriptions of the 1998 and 2013 terrorist attacks in Kenya,
including accounts of the Kenyan government s immediate actions in response to these events.
These descriptions will be followed by a broader study of recent terror and intelligence reforms in
Kenya. This paper will analyze these reforms and consider the support they received, the reactions
that they provoked, and their effectiveness at dissuading

The Effects of Wyoming’s Aging Population Essay examples
The Effects of Wyoming s Aging Population
With new medical technology and improved knowledge about health and wellness, American s life
expectancy is longer than ever, with a better expected quality of life as well. Wyoming is the
fastest aging state in the country according to the Billing s Gazette. In addition to an already aging
state, Wyoming has been named by national publications as a top place of retirementdue to its tax
structure and climate. In an article from the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, it is predicted that by the
year 2020 Wyoming will have the highest percentage of residents over the age of 65. With the
rapidly rising elderly population, Wyoming faces many challenges and difficulties in its future....

Medicare is a government program and unlike private insurance companies, it must pay the costs of
any beneficial medical care. From an example in USA Today, they point out that the type of
defibrillator put in Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to become standard care for cardiac
patients. The instillation of the defibrillator, which regulates the heart s electrical rhythms,
currently cost about $30,000. This is expected to cost Medicare $14 billion by 2015, if only half
of those suffering from heart failure received this treatment. This is a major national concern, but
due to Wyoming s rapidly aging population, Medicare will also become a major cost to the state.
Economically, Wyoming is not very diverse. The state s economy is unable to absorb a range of
young or old workers. Natural resources and mining have been the fastest growing jobs in the
state, with an increase of 15.5% according to the Casper Star Tribune. These jobs require hard
physical labor and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to
AARP economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past the customary retirement
age of 65. This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. If Wyoming
is able to follow this national shift toward knowledge based work, the aging residents and influx of
retirees could possibly benefit the state s economy.
Wyoming lacks a younger population

Intellectual Stimulation
The concept of Intellectual Stimulation is the most important concept in this module. To become
an Adaptable Leader, one must be skilled in the art of taking different points of view into
consideration before a decision is made. This concept will enable the leader to establish a base for

adaptable leaders wield higher levels of cognitive, emotional, and dispositional flexibilities, which
are vital for boosting qualities of effective followership and improving overall organizational

Nature s Supernatural Effect On Frankenstein And His Monster
Nature s Supernatural Effect on Frankenstein and his monster Nature influences us everyday,
whether it is noticed by us or not. However, nature rarely has a supernatural effect on us in
comparison to Victor Frankenstein and his monster. Nature controls the plot of Mary Shelley s
book, Frankenstein. The events that happen in the book are seasonally based making it easily
predictable. Victor creates the monster in the fall when everything is dying and coming to an
end. Victor awakens in the spring when the monster is gone and nature begins a new year of
life. Victor s biggest mistake is his ambition. By playing God and controlling nature, trying to
preventing death, Victor starts a series of misfortunes for himself and the people he loves. Victor
and the monster struggle to find their places in the world and look toward nature for comfort and
guidance. Nature cures Victor several times from near death. When Victor creates the monster he
realizes what he has done and becomes extremely sick. Victor writes in his letter to Elizabeth, my
health and spirits had long been restored, and they gained strength from the salubrious air I
breathed (Shelley 72). Through the healing powers of spring, and some care from Henry, Victor
recovers. After the deaths of William and Justine and Victor s promise, to create a companion for
the monster, Victor becomes distraught. Instead of seeking the comfort of his family he decides to
leave with Henry to London and sight see

Counselling Psychotherapy And Psychodynamic Perspectives
Introduction I am developing an understanding of two of the most utilised approaches in
counselling psychotherapy. These are the person centered and psychodynamic perspectives. I
seek to explore my development and attunement to the concepts we have been introduced to by
facilitating my own learning. Also I isolate difficulties that have arisen and explain how I have
overcome these obstacles. This will aid my continual development towards becoming a helper.
This piece is my own reflexive account on my journey so far. In my development to date, and
the feelings of achievement and failure through actions of my early adolescence. Becoming a
helper is a longstanding ambition of mine, formulated by my desire to help others. My
experiences over the last twenty five years, have taught me that I am sometimes over analytical
in my thoughts, overly concerned about others, I can end up neglecting myself. Throughout this
journey I have had chronic ups and downs life can harbor. I continue to develop my own sense
of self, and pursue the opportunity to guide others through their own dialogue. Narrative of the
self I recall when I was younger I was insistent on helping my mum and dad look after my two
brothers. This could be because I m the eldest of three. I am a daughter and sister. My youngest
brother was born with congenital heart disease when I was

Habits of the Mind
Habits of Mind The habits of mind might better be termed the habits of a perfected mind since
most have not acquired all of these habits. The two selected for this paper are persistence and
precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This
paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is
distracted from them. Persistence and precision are habits of mindthat require many of the same
skills to acquire. Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick,
2008). It is the ability to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection
of the effort. People who have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but
press on until they are successful. Having precision of language and thought is striving to
communicate accurately in both written and oral form, taking care to use precise language;
defining terms; and using correct names, labels and analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability
is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is communicating thoughts clearly so that they
are not misunderstood. It is also a skill that takes a great deal of determination and discipline to
perfect. These two skills can be innate, in a very few people, but by the majority they are acquired
(Watts, 2012). Thinking clearly is the first step to communicating clearly, and this leads to the
ability to accomplish tasks. A

OSA Pathogenesis Paper
Though overweight and an excess of regional adipose tissue are considered major risk factors for
OSA, there are also other interacting elements in OSA pathogenesis, such as craniofacial
abnormalities and an altered UA structure. The rationale of using image and speech analysis in
OSA assessment can be found on works such as Lee et al. [3, 4] and Davidson et al. [5], where the
evolutionary changes in physiological characteristics such as craniofacial morphology or
acquisition of speech are connected to the appearance of OSA from an anatomical basis.
First studies looked for abnormalities within craniofacial structures using techniques and processing
common in medical imaging such as cephalometry or computed tomography (CT). In [6] authors

assessed by lateral cephalometry such as position of mandible (P 0.05), mandibular plane angle
(P 0.05), total face height (P 0.01), upper face height (P 0.05), and lower face height (P 0.05). In
addition, they also reported differences in tongue (P 0.001), soft palate (P 0.001), and upper
airway (P 0.01) size determined from computed tomography. In [8], authors studied oropharyngeal
soft tissues profile by means of cephalometric analysis to detect differences between control and
sleep apnea individuals. Significant differences were related to the length of the soft palate (P

palate (P 0.001). These previous works rely on advanced imaging techniques, allowing a detailed
examination of bony and soft tissue structures. However, these procedures are generally cost
expensive, time consuming, and invasive for patients due to radiation exposure.

The Responsibility Of Organizational Effectiveness
Leadership Style The responsibility of organizational effectiveness is in the hands of the institution
s leaders. Leaders develop business strategies to maintain relevance or launch the business into the
next generation or category. An important factor of strategic success is how managers and
supervisors lead followers in a new direction. The foundation of the relationship will determine if
the employees will give total commitment to the organization s strategy or do the minimal tasking.
Organizational Effectiveness Organizations are continually evolving to meet the requests of the
stakeholders, customers, and the environment. Strategic renewal is revamping an organization s
business model, target audience, or products or services to meet the demands put on the leaders
(Spector, 2013). Therefore, the success of the company s new strategy is dependent on the leaders
capability to support the new internal processes with the external requirements (Spector, 2013).
Strategic Leadership Strategic leadership is the capability to incorporate forward thinking ideas and
concepts into a business s functions while simultaneously influencing employees to accept the new
processes (Malewska Sajdak, 2014). Consequently, leaders cannot announce a change or new
strategy and expect the staff to understand the latest expectations; it takes a more in depth, hands on
approach to make the system work. In a 1998 study, chief executive officers (CEOs) from American
businesses ranked

Design By Robert Frost An Exam Essay
In the poem amp;#8220;Design ; by Robert Frost, the classic use of the color white, meaning
innocence and purity is turned around. Instead of giving this color to wholesome, pure objects he
gives them to objects that are the reverse, which are death, darkness and unholy objects.
When I read the poem amp;#8220;Design ; I got the feeling that the author did not feel the same as
I do about the color white. The first line talks about a fat white spider. This line contradicts the
reputation that spiders have. When I see a spider, fat or skinny, it is usually black. I hate spiders
and I would not give them the label as innocent or pure because spiders live in a dirty environment.

Frost talks about the spider on a white heal all holding up a dead white moth. A heal all is a
flower traditionally known for its healing capabilities, but in this poem it is acting as a boxing
ring for the spider and the moth. The moth saw a white spider and figured he was of no harm to
him. The spider used his innocent mask to deceive the moth and then the moth being gullible, was
pounced on by the spider. The deceiving spider then held up the moth for the entire world to see.
The moth is also commonly thought of a gross bug, but they are not harmful. The innocent little
moth was tricked and it cost its life.
I feel that there is a deeper meaning in Frost amp;#8217;s poem. I think he is telling us that any
color can have any meaning. He refers to the spider as being amp;#8220;snow dropped ; which
tells the readers that the spider is innocent. The innocence that this spider has is similar to the
innocence of a toddler who smacks his younger sibling and runs away and immediately begins to
do another activity. The toddler is trying to show that he or she was doing something else and was
no way involved with the incident that took place. The toddler is not doing this because he has a
guilty conscience but because he is trying to escape punishment. The idea behind the spider being
white is that the reader is supposed to look at it and think that that spider couldn amp;#8217;t have

Ocular Dominance
Understanding the Effect that Ophthalmologic Diseases have on the Development, and
Maintenance, of Ocular Dominance Columns
Vessa Pearsall
TA: Austin Ferro; Section 005
March 22, 2017
Abstract:
It is well understood that ocular dominance columns are a group of neurons that preferentially
respond to the input from one eye over the other. When these groups of neurons converge onto
binocular cells found in other layers, binocular vision is produced. However, it is less understood
whether ophthalmologic diseases, specifically forms of astigmatism, strabismus and cataracts, have
an impact on the development and maintenance of these ocular dominance columns. Ocular
dominance columns were labelled with cytochrome oxidase, an enzyme used to identify ... Show

This enzyme will dye areas of high metabolic activity. This technique can be used to compare and
contrast the presence of ocular dominance columns in normal mammals with abnormal mammals
(i.e.: those with monocular, or decreased, vision).
Should include data using cytochrome oxidase to identify ODCs in patients with different
ophthalmologic disease.
Should talk about when cytochrome oxidase can be used (i.e.: alive versus dead) and the effect
that enucleation of an affected eye has on the presence of ODCs.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that ophthalmologic diseases do have detrimental impacts on the
development and maintenance of ocular dominance columns. This is due to the loss in binocular
vision, which is important for the development of depth perception as well as ocular dominance
columns. While monocular vision results in the shrinkage and disappearance of ocular dominance
columns, it would be interesting to see if ocular dominance columns could be re established if
binocular vision was

Similarities Between Samurai And Knights
In about 1000 to 1600 CE in history two warriors were made with a different name and in two
different countries. More than a thousand years ago, a class of professional warriors arose, who
swore oaths of loyalty to noble lords and fought to the death to defend them in battle (Overview).
The two warriors were samuraiand knights. Samurais were fighting for Japan in the class of military
retainers of the daiyomes while across the seas the knights were fighting on horseback in Europe.
To keep order in the land both regions developed a system that historians called federalism. There
were more differences than similarities and here are some reasons why the differences were greater
than the similarities.
The first reason why the differences are greater than the similarities is because of the social order
in feudal Japan and Europe. Historians and other scholars use social pyramids to show how
societies were structured (Document A). The samurai owned loyalty and military service to daimyo
s for land or regular payment while on the other hand knights owned loyalty and military service to
the lords. Another difference about samurais and knights was the population. Samurai with families
took about 10% of Japan s population and in Europe, there was estimated 12,000 knights in England
and Normany France in the 12th century. One more difference is that there are four people above
the knight in the social order but only three for samurai.
The second reason why the differences

Civil Disobedience And Long Walk To Freedom Essay
The three authors of Civil Disobedience, On the Eve of Historic March, and Long Walk to
Freedom believe that an individual person may bring about social reform. Thoreau, Gandhi, and
Nelson Mandela each aspire a nonviolent approach to situations and they have faith in the spirit of
individualism and optimism. These people made enormous differences in social reform and
convinced others to do the same through speeches or other methods.
Starting off, in Civil Disobedience, Thoreau believed that the government should have very little
power so that people can enjoy more freedoms and make their own decisions on certain things. A
motto that Thoreau heartily accepted is, That government is best which governs least (Thoreau

to peacefully protest against what was wrong. He made people take a pledge of truth and
nonviolence as the only means of the attainment of Swaraj be faithfully kept (Gandhi 236).
Specifically, in his speech, he encouraged people to protest against the law that made Native
Americans purchase taxed salt from the British by having a march. This would unify everyone
and lead to the secured freedom of Indians. Last, in Long Walk to Freedom, Nelson Mandela
prompted people to push for freedom so that everyone was free, no matter what skin color they
possessed. At first, he simply desired personal freedom, but then realized that other people weren
t free either. This caused him to not only push for freedom, but to enhance the freedom of others

Nation-State In Medieval Europe
What is a nation state? A nation state is defined as a type of political organization in which a group
of relatively homogenous people live in one area under one government, and its development
actually traces back to the Middle Ages. Medieval Europe was unified by the Roman Catholic
Church, a powerful, but corrupt, institution. This corruption, coupled with the Renaissance spirit,
led to increasing dissatisfaction with the Church and sparked the beginnings of the Protestant
Reformation. These revolutionary ideas created conflicts between rulers, especially the triumph of
the Protestant German princes over Charles V in 1555, which laid the foundations for the first true
nationstates, France, Germany, and Italy, centuries later.

The Changes Within The Student Population At The Moment...
Abstract
Here we discuss the various changes that are happening around us because of the technologies that
are to be made in order to discuss the changes within the student population at the moment and the
role which is played by technology. Then it is shown how the changes are being made in society
can affect the requirements for graduates who are about to be employed. These requirements are
brought into light by the fact that technology integration will play a larger role in changing our
teaching environments for better teaching outcomes so that the support can be bettered for
developing top notch thinking skills essential for the 21st century. Which has led to the raise of
emerging learning theories

Also by the year 1999 it is found that an unexpectedly a larger percentage (96.95%) of
kindergarten students can access computers either home or school. Based on some statistics, even
poor students who might not access the technology at home are utilizing it by either using the
available resources in the library of their school, or in a classmate s house. These statistics prove
that technology has a vital role in the lives of students. It has helped to verify why an educator
presume the change is essential in teaching and learning methods. If students are so engaged in
using the technology outside the classroom, they value it. Then it would be logical to assume that
if technology were merged into the classroom learning environment has to be more purposeful to
the students. Considering the fact that all parts of society are changed significantly in an unseen
way by information technology and has been continuing the change so that the future will not be
neglected. Schools have to adopt these changes and research must advance with the belief that
technology is and will exist to be an expanding component in the educational system. This is the
actuality why the students are so involved when it comes to the usage of technology. It is a
herculean task to progress in a world which is run by technology and not be affected by it.
As mentioned above the world has significantly been changed by the information

The Pros And Cons Of Judicial Review
Judicial review does not serve the interest of the people. It serves the interest of the political
designer. The political designer is interested in maintaining power at all cost. When political actors
are in a society where only they are dominant they are not concerned with tactics to secure their
political views or to try prevent an opposing party from gaining too much power. Dominant parties
anticipate continued success while opposing political forces cannot confidently predict that either
party will be in power. In this sense It is preferred to limit the majority. This is the insurance model
of judicial review. By serving as an alternative forum in which to challenge government action,
judicial review provides a form of insurance to prospective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first is the access to the court. one can array access to the court on a spectrum from very
limited access, as in the original design of the Austrian model in 1920, in which only state and
federal governments could bring cases, to the present design of the German Constitutional
Court, where not only political bodies but individuals may enjoy direct access through
constitutional petitions and ordinary judges may refer questions as well. (Ginsburg, Pg. 36).
This is the most important factor of judicial review because without cases coming into a court
there will be no court. If a court does not have cases being brought to it, it will not be able to
expand in power. Judicial review has different effects in different societies. A good example is the
American courts. Stare Decisis allows old law to stay in place while new law if put in place and
followed. In a centralized system the court has the power to declare the laws unconstitutional and
immediately void. (Ginsburg, Pg 40). Courts also vary on appointment. Appointment is important
because electing who will interpret the text is beneficial if they are doing it in your favor. For
example, the Hungarian, American and Russian systems use cooperative appointment. The risk of
deadlock is present because of the need of cooperation. Some systems use term limits and renewals
as accountability mechanisms. This is a key component of judicial independence

Types Of Reorganization Of A Company Essay
Reorganization is the process of extending the life of a company that is facing liquidation by
restructuring it in order to carry out activities which minimizes reoccurrence of past situations.
Type A reorganization involves consolidation and merging and it gives greater flexibility since
there is no restrictions of voting stock. Nontaxable status is not affected by removal of
unnecessary assets. Additionally, this type of reorganization saves on time as approval from
shareholders, which often brings complexity can be avoided. In a type B, assets and contracts
which cannot be transferred are not lost, there is no substantially all requisite and liabilities of
target s corporationare isolated in a subsidiary.
In a type C reorganization, the acquiring corporation can be selective while choosing the liabilities
it assumes. A taxresponsibility may arise if consideration other than stock is used in the possession
of the resources. Type D reorganization enables the selling corporation to be exempted from paying
tax immediately because assets transfer is followed by absolute liquidation of the acquired
corporation. I would recommend type D as the most beneficial to the client because the shareholders
quits operations once the corporation is bought by the acquiring company Furthermore, transfer of
titles contracts and leases may not be necessary.
In reference to the ABC Corporation, the client should use type C reorganization because it will

Questions and Answers on the Foundations of Singing
1.How does the speaking voice influence the singing voice?
I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had vocal teachers tell me that they cannot
believe how high I can sing after hearing my speaking voice. Many vocal professionals tell me
that I must be an alto and I have had many vocal issues. I have been told it is because teachers are
pushing my voice to high and the opposite that it is because I speak too low. I blame it on being a
very unhealthy human being. Research has shown a correlation between the speaking and singing
voices (Phillips, 236). Poor speaking habits can lead to poor singing habits, which can lead to
vocal problems. Many cases of vocal nodules have been reported in children as a result of poor
speaking habits. Singing and speaking have similar physiology, which can make it difficult for
students that have a poor speaking voice to then go onto having a good singing voice. The
speaking voice is learned young in students and often times music teachers do not have any
control over it. When the students reach our classrooms it is our job to almost reteach students
how to speak so that they can sing properly. Otherwise, many of the students will develop
problems that they will work on fixing for the rest of their lives. I am still working on posture and
how not to bring muscle into my singing voice, since I use muscle in my speaking voice.

Women In Comedy Have to Be Double Threats to Be Taken...
Everyone knows that we live in a male dominated world. In the entertainment industry, as well as
every other profession in America, we see women struggling to be taken seriously. Fueled by the
media s obsession with appearances, women are under extreme pressure to look and act a certain
way to please the men around them. In the world of stand up comedy, there is another layer to that
pressure. I m talking about the pressure to be funny. A post circulating the internet displays a
triangle with the points labeled intelligent , good looking , and emotionally stable . In the center
are the words pick two . Replace emotionally stable with funny and you have the dilemma that
female comedians are faced with. In a male dominated industry, they are forced to decide whether
they want to reject today s idea of beauty and play up their wit and intelligence, or highlight their
appearance and play the dumb blonde for laughs. It is only recently that comediennes are refusing
to comprise their integrity to succeed.
Christopher Hitchens famously argued in a 2007 Vanity Fair that women aren t funny or haven t
developed their comedy skills because they don t have to. Comedy, he said, was a mating tool
and women don t need that particular arrow in their quiver because they are pretty and make
babies. But men, Hitchens said, get fat and bald so to attract women they either need wit or
wealth. Ergo, men have evolved their comedic skills to a greater level. Women are socialized out

Letter From The Fringe
Robin Williams once said No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the
world. This quote shows that when someone says something to you either nice or not, it can
change a person s thought about themselves. Just like the character Sally. A Letter from the
Fringe (Joan Bauer) tells about a girl named Sally that got bullied and was made fun of because
of her weight. Towards the middle of the story you can see that Sally was changing she was more
upset about herself wanted to lose weight then to enjoy food. But as we get into the end of the
story you can see that she changed and was happy about herself again and that being different was

She tried to hide it on the outside but was really hurt on the inside. For example in the text it
states, But more important, said Ed Looper, plunking his lunch tray down, is you can t seem like
a victim. I don t seem like a victim! Sally insisted. She did, though. Bad posture. Flitting eye
contact. Mumbles a lot. These examples supports the topic because it shows that Sally was really
hurt and trying to make it like nothing ever happened between Booker and her. This also supports
this paragraph because she changed to a very happy person in the beginning and now upset and
feels like she needs to lose weight. My second example is, that she is too upset to talk to anyone
around her. For example in the text it states, I just want to ignore those people, she said sadly to the
group. Can you do it, though? I asked her. She shrugged, mumbled, looked down. This shows that
the bullying really got to her and she feels like she doesn t have anybody standing next to her to
help and support her. She also feels that if she won t talk to them nothing will ever happen to her
again if she doesn t do anything and lay eye contact. In conclusion, this shows how upset Sally is in
the middle of the story and shows that she doesn t feels part of anything

Stag Hunt Floor Mosaic Essay
Pebbled Perfection The Stag Hunt floor mosaic by the artist Gnosis, depicts two men and a dog
about to kill a stag. The mosaic is from Pella, Greece and dates to about 300 BCE. The piece
currently resides in the Archaeological Museum in Pella. The mosaic is made entirely from
pebbles of varying colors collected from the ground. The piece only has a few distinctive colors,
the most prominent including black, white, and brown. White pebbles are used almost entirely
for the two men s bodies, the dog, and part of the stag. Brown pebbles give character to the hair
of the two men, body of the stag, and smaller elements like the eyes and lips of the figures.
Finally, black pebbles create most of the background of the mosaic, marking a distinct contrast
between the background and the white figures. Shading also beautifully enhances the mosaic,
perhaps because of the limited color range. Especially noticeable are the cloaks of the two men.
The use of light and shade seem to make the cloaks writhe over the powerful bodies they adorn.
Shading defines the muscles of the men, accentuating their bodies and the power within them. Also

Overlapping is a large component of the piece. For example, the stag is placed in front of both

the figures appear in relative proportion to each other, even though the stag is clearly of the most

Through Another Pair of Eyes The perception of life through someone else s eyes can alter one s
appreciation toward that particular lifestyle. Culture is perceived differently depending on the
type of environment in which we grow accustomed to. It can also range from the type of
location in which we live in. For instance, someone living in a different state would have a
different perception of the way we do things compared to their ways. In the essay Bumping into
Mr. Ravioli, by Adam Gopnik, the view on life is seen differently when viewed in Gopnik s
perception. However, this perception of life changes when viewed in a different point of view.

s imaginary friend. Gopnik states Why is busyness the stuff our children make their invisible
friends from, as country children make theirs from light and sand? (Gopnik 156). According to
Gopnik, children base their imaginary friends from the type of environment they live in. For
example, since Olivia lives in New York, Her imaginary friend, Charlie Ravioli, has the
personality of a busy person living in New York. However, a child living on the countryside
would create an imaginary that has a personality based off that environment. These two quotes
exhibit the idea of different lifestyles based off different environments. Gopnik beings to
understand the busy lifestyle of people in New York and understands why Charlie Ravioli never
has time to play with Olivia. He learns to appreciate this type of lifestyle and will eventually grow
accustomed to it especially living in such a busy city. Gopnik also learns to understand more about
his lifestyle and that in order to adjust to the busy lifestyle, he has to get involved with the routine.

one of the 10 best QBs in the NFL. In the process of obtaining that status, he has put Redskins
management in a difficult situation just one year prior to when he becomes eligible for free

need to make what figures to be its most important decision of the offseason. On the table are three
options: the team could elect to put the transitional tag on Cousins and forfeit any chance of a
compensation pick should he sign with another team, they could use its franchise tag and assure a

Tyson Food Advertising
False Marketing in the Food Industry
Advertisements play a vital role in a company s success. It is a marketing strategy used to
increase awareness as well as the sale of a product or service. In the early 1990 s Tyson Foods
released TV dinners featuring the cast of the Warner Brothers, Looney Tunes. On the print ad, they
suggested that this quick and easy form of dinner was nutritious and healthy for children. Despite
the claims that Tyson Foods had made on this particular advertisement, the ad redirects children
and parents from the real truth and leaves them clueless as to what a healthy meal really is. This
type of invisible advertisement has begun to jeopardize the health of our youth. There should be a
ban put on campaigning food ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though they claim that their foods are nutritious, the film states otherwise by taking the audience
to tour several Tyson chicken farmhouses. In a chicken farmhouse ran by Vince Edwards for
Tyson, hundreds of chickens were raised in an enclosed area with no room to walk and no light to
take in. Prior to filming, Edwards agreed to let cameramen in the houses, however after Tyson got
news of what was happening Edwards was not able to allow any cameras in. A Perdue chicken
grower let cameramen into her chicken house and was able to show the harsh conditions that
chicken must endure. It is mentioned that due to the high demand of white meat, the chickens are
injected with hormones and sometimes get too tired to stand because of the extra weight put onto
their legs. Other then this, hundreds of chickens are cooped up with little to no space to roam free.
They often step in and lay in their poop. Though the company claims that their products are
nutritious they definitely are not

Amadeus Movie Essay
The film Amadeus directed by Milos Forman in 1984 was a look in to the interesting and short
life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart was considered a child prodigy and genius by
possessing qualities such as: composing his first concerto at the age 4, first symphony by the age
of seven, his first opera by twelve, being able to just hear a piece of musiconce and being able to
play it back perfectly from memory, playing the piano with a blindfold on, or playing the piano
upside down and backward. The film was narrated by another composer, Antonio Salieri, who was
portrayed has having a love/hate relationship with Mozart.
Amadeus may have won best picture in 1984, but did not score as high with historians. There were
quite a few events or situations that happened in Amadeus that were portrayed inaccurately. A few

The first inaccuracy of Salieri s feelings have been deemed as inaccurate. In several of Mozart s
letters, there is evidence that the Italians (supposedly lead by Salieri) in Emperor Joseph s court
did get in the way of several attempts to advance Mozart s career, and some of these are
portrayed in the film. There is, however, no clear proof that Salieri hated Mozart or plotted
against him or planned his death (Fact or Fiction). I found a wide range of views on Mozart s and
Salieri s relationship. Some say they were the best of friends, and some said they never actually
meet in person, but never once did I come upon any information that there was bad blood between
them. The second inaccuracy found was that the film only showed Mozart and Constanze having

American Airlines
Matt Vinas
10/1/2012
1. Political: In some cases, foreign governments limit U.S. air carriers rights to carry passengers
beyond designated gateway cities in foreign countries.
This can affect the American Airlines company in the competitive airlineindustry because if some
foreign governments deny the rights to U.S. air carriers to carry passengers beyond designated
cities, the loyal customers of American Airlines would choose another airline that would be
accepted by foreign governments, which will ultimately decrease American Airline ticket sales
followed by a decrease in profits. 2. Economic: The airline industry is subject to ... Show more

If the Bankruptcy court follows up with this action, the American Airlines company will fall off as
being one of the top competitors in this airline industry or end up shutting down and not even
existing as a company. 7. Current Competitors: The Company faces competing service from at least
one, and sometimes more than one, domestic airline including: Alaska Airlines (Alaska), Delta Air
Lines (Delta), Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways (JetBlue), Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines
(Southwest) and AirTran Airways (Air Tran)
With the majority of American Airlines competitors in domestic industry, it is crucial for them to
keep up to date with the latest business strategies their competitors are integrating in to their
businesses. Depending on what strategy American Airlines Company decides on, it needs to be
differentiated compared to their competitors in order to succeed in this airline industry. 8. Threat
of New Entrants: There are a number of low cost carriers (LCCs) in the domestic market and the
Company competes with LCCs over a very large part of its network.
Throughout American Airlines 10K the company does not discuss the current threats of new
entrants to the domestic airline industry, however in the statement above

Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus) use thermal and structural cues to choose

2017 ABSTRACT Hibernaculum are places where creatures seek refuge and most hibernacula and
summer dens are found beside old fallen logs (73%)(. Hibernacula and Summer Den Sites of Pine
Snakes (Pituophis melanoleucus) in the New Jersey Pine Barrens). Snakes have hibernaculum,
which are like dens and these dens can provide multiple benefits to snakes including shelter from
lethal overwinter conditions, social opportunities, and contain basking sites, which important in

It is hypothesized that snakes are capable of leaving pheromone trails for themselves or their
offspring to locate hibernacula because the hibernacula keep them from freezing in the
winter[cite conspecific trailing behavior of red sided garter snakes] To contrary belief, snakes
are not solitary animals when it comes to hibernacula.Snakes are often highly selective in the
choice of sites for hibernation, and suitable sites can potentially be a limiting resource(.Pine
Snake (Pituophis Ruthveni and Pituophis Melanoleucus Lodingi) Hibernacula D. C. Rudolph,
R. R. Schaefer, S. J. Burgdorf, M. Duran, and R. N. Conner) Snakes colonize together and use
hibernaculum to escape frigid winters (Macartney et al. 1989; Sexton et al. 1992) and are likely
to overwinter to avoid freezing temperatures (Mathies T. and Martin. J.D 2008) in order to
regulate physiological processes after spring emergence for basking (Gregory 1984). Given the
benefits of hibernaculum, in the off chance snakes do not locate hibernacula is it more like for that
snake to run the risk of not surviving. The high fidelity that snakes display towards specific
hibernacula suggests that hibernacula have unique characteristics which allow them to be
repeatedly relocated and features which may be critical in allowing overwinter survival (Burger et
al. 1988;

The Bath And The Yellow Wallpaper
How do the authors of The Bath (1983) and The Yellow Wallpaper use language present the
vulnerabilities of the central characters?
The authors of the Books The Yellow Wallpaper and The Bath attempt at a great literary extent to
thoroughly show describe and explain the vulnerabilities of the protagonists in their respective
worlds. It is evident in both texts that there are a range of similarities between both protagonists,
which include: their weaknesses, emotions, families and their genders. But on the other hand they
also have a range of differences which include: their certain weakness, the extent of their
irrationality, support and marriage relation with their certain spouses. They both live in radically
different utopias, which could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hope is also a great theme in the Yellow Wallpaper
. It is as likewise found in the resolution stage of
the story. Her hope seems quite more realistic and rational. She seems to have defeated her
human master as recorded in the following extract: Open the door, my darling! I can t, said 1.
The key is down by the front door under a plantain leaf! And then I said it again, several times.
Very gently and slowly, and said it so often that he had to go and see, and he got it of course, and
came in. He stopped short by the door. What is the matter? he cried. For God s sake, what are
you doing? I kept on creeping just the same, but I looked at him over my shoulder. I ve got out at
last, said I, in spite of you and Jane? And I ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can t put me
back! Now why should that man have fainted? But he did, and right across my path by the wall,
so that I had to creep over him every time! This piece of text shows that her view of hope is in
the death of her husband, she finally defeated this great snake who creeped and held her for all her
life. She finds hope in freedom. Although there is substantial evidence that there is a sort of tragedy
in the death of her husband. A great technique that has been used by the author is the use of short
sentences; they show the increase in tempo of the certain scene that is presented towards the reader

How Did The Quattrocento Influence The Renaissance During the period of Quattrocento in Italy, individuals were part of elite circles and embraced humanism, an emphasis on education and on expanding knowledge (especially of classical antiquity), the exploration of individual s potential and a desire to excel, and a commitment to civic responsibility and moral duty (pg.560). During the Quattrocento, Italyenjoyed an affluence of artistic flair. The artistic accomplishments, the expansion of humanism, and economic boom cultivated the Renaissance, and forever altering the direction and approach of art in the Western World. The High Renaissance retained the same style and values as the Renaissance with these new emerging artists Leonardo and Raphael. During the Late Renaissance (16th century) there was an interest in classical culture and perspective however, a new style called mannerism emerged which, challenged Renaissance naturalism almost as soon as Raphael has been laid to rest (pg.600). Unlike Quattrocento, the period of Cinquecento pertained exclusively to outstanding quality both technically and aesthetically of the art and architecture that was produced during this time. This idea revolves around people believing in a naturalist type world where people don t believe in a higher power to solve problems. It is mostly about human reasoning, social justice, and naturalism where you make calls and judgments based on what you think is right and wrong and not what someone else said in a book. Leading up to new Hollywood, the 1960s brought devastation to the film industry. With the massive production of televisions along with the migration of millions to suburbs away from the cities, movie theaters lost their popularity very quickly. Fewer films were being made, thus hurting Hollywood in every way possible. However, as the late 1960s approached, the new Hollywood era arose with new ways to attract movie goers once more. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing so, the industry was able to make similar, cheap movies that attracted more and more teenagers. Movies like monster movies and outlaw movies made the most money which helped Hollywood get back on their feet. Outlaw movies like Bonnie and Clyde and Easy Rider became popular because they both have similar plot lines that are based on going against the system and fighting the man . We can see a similarity with these two movies as they both break the law and run away to become free. For example, Clyde gets Bonnie and others hooked on robbing banks to fight the Great Depression they are currently in. They break the law, fall in love, have gun battles with the cops, and generally have a fun time with it. Teenagers are always interested in this type of action and getting back at the system. In Easy Rider, Captain America and Billy make a huge drug deal and run off with their money, smoke marijuana all day long, have sex, and do other substances along their journey. This outlaw ish behavior was what teenagers and young adults were doing at this time. In the late 1960s, marijuana and other substances became largely popular, rock and roll was popular, all of the things Captain America and Billy do could be very similar to what was actually going on in America at the time; therefore the audience can relate to the characters. Although both painters were born in France, they were painting during time periods. Moillon was born in 1609 in Paris and was painting during the Baroque era, which encompassed intense shadow and rich colours (Harrison, 2010). Cezanne was born in 1839 in Aix en Providence and was paining in the Post Impressionism era, which included thick applications of paint and had a more expressive effect (Harrison, 2010). The composition looks formal and posed and the lighting in the painting is dramatic and creates harsh shadows which gives a more realistic feel. Everyone lives in some kind of culture; everyone has an ethnic background, a social standing, possible political, moral, and religious views and each of these items submits that person into multiple sub groups within their culture. I, myself, am a part of numerous sub cultures. Starting with the largest I am a human being; I live and function as a human and not as an animal or plant. This seems a little farfetched to apply as a sub culture but it is a proven fact that even some animal groups have communities and cultures of their own. So although I can identify with many in this sub culture within America I cannot relate with nearly as many people of this sub culture at Troy University. I can still create relationships with college students in general despite my major. There are not many nonverbal factors to analyze for this sub culture but there are quite a few verbal factors. College students have a language of their own. They know the struggles of class schedules, club meetings, registration, living on a dime, and buying books dirt cheap. This verbal code often disconnects college students from people similar to their age due to the fact that much of the subjects to be spoken about are quite different. This is not to say that college students cannot communicate with non college students but they often find it easier to relate to those who understand their lingo, joys, struggles, and more. Many people consider death as something that is terrifying and horrific, but there are some who view death as a peaceful stepping off point into a blissful eternity. Some prominent poets that have shared their different perspectives regarding deathinclude John Donne, Emily Dickinson, and Randall Jarrell. John Donne was an influential English poet of the 17th century, Emily Dickinson was a distinguished American poet in the 19th century, and Randall Jarrell was a well known American poet of the 20th century. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell begins the poem with, From my mother s sleep I fell into the State, / And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze (1 2). Jarrell opens the poem by comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to that of his mother s womb. The fact that Jarrell is comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to his mother s womb is quite ironic because he juxtaposes two things where one symbolizes life, and the other symbolizes death. Jarrell continues to convey his theme of death when he describes how the speaker is off the ground and flying. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell writes, Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life (3). Jarrell is foreshadowing the death of the speaker in this line. Jarrell knew that once the speaker was off the ground and in the air, the speaker was on a suicide mission. Most ball turret gunners lives in WW2 were short lived. Since they were placed under the belly of the bomber aircraft, if the aircraft was shot down, most planes landed on their bellies, and as a result, the ball turret gunners were killed. In the last lines of Jarrell s poem, Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, he states, I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters. / When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose (4 5). Jarrell s views on death highlight that he is against the unnecessary loss of life. These jobs require hard physical labor and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to AARP economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past the customary retirement age of 65. This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. The two selected for this paper are persistence and precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is distracted from them. Persistence and precision are habits of mindthat require many of the same skills to acquire. Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick, 2008). It is the ability to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection of the effort. People who have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but press on until they are successful. Having precision of language and thought is striving to communicate accurately in both written and oral form, taking care to use precise language; defining terms; and using correct names, labels and analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is communicating thoughts clearly so that they are not misunderstood. It is also a skill that takes a great deal of determination and discipline to perfect. These two skills can be innate, in a very few people, but by the majority they are acquired (Watts, 2012). • 23. The Responsibility Of Organizational Effectiveness Leadership Style The responsibility of organizational effectiveness is in the hands of the institution s leaders. Leaders develop business strategies to maintain relevance or launch the business into the next generation or category. An important factor of strategic success is how managers and supervisors lead followers in a new direction. The foundation of the relationship will determine if the employees will give total commitment to the organization s strategy or do the minimal tasking. Organizational Effectiveness Organizations are continually evolving to meet the requests of the stakeholders, customers, and the environment. Strategic renewal is revamping an organization s business model, target audience, or products or services to meet the demands put on the leaders (Spector, 2013). Therefore, the success of the company s new strategy is dependent on the leaders capability to support the new internal processes with the external requirements (Spector, 2013). Strategic Leadership Strategic leadership is the capability to incorporate forward thinking ideas and concepts into a business s functions while simultaneously influencing employees to accept the new processes (Malewska Sajdak, 2014). • 26. Similarities Between Samurai And Knights In about 1000 to 1600 CE in history two warriors were made with a different name and in two different countries. More than a thousand years ago, a class of professional warriors arose, who swore oaths of loyalty to noble lords and fought to the death to defend them in battle (Overview). The two warriors were samuraiand knights. Samurais were fighting for Japan in the class of military retainers of the daiyomes while across the seas the knights were fighting on horseback in Europe. To keep order in the land both regions developed a system that historians called federalism. There were more differences than similarities and here are some reasons why the differences were greater than the similarities. The first reason why the differences are greater than the similarities is because of the social order in feudal Japan and Europe. Historians and other scholars use social pyramids to show how societies were structured (Document A). The samurai owned loyalty and military service to daimyo s for land or regular payment while on the other hand knights owned loyalty and military service to the lords. Another difference about samurais and knights was the population. Samurai with families took about 10% of Japan s population and in Europe, there was estimated 12,000 knights in England and Normany France in the 12th century. One more difference is that there are four people above the knight in the social order but only three for samurai. The second reason why the differences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people made enormous differences in social reform and convinced others to do the same through speeches or other methods. Starting off, in Civil Disobedience, Thoreau believed that the government should have very little power so that people can enjoy more freedoms and make their own decisions on certain things. A nation state is defined as a type of political organization in which a group of relatively homogenous people live in one area under one government, and its development actually traces back to the Middle Ages. Medieval Europe was unified by the Roman Catholic Church, a powerful, but corrupt, institution. This corruption, coupled with the Renaissance spirit, led to increasing dissatisfaction with the Church and sparked the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation. The political designer is interested in maintaining power at all cost. When political actors are in a society where only they are dominant they are not concerned with tactics to secure their political views or to try prevent an opposing party from gaining too much power. Dominant parties anticipate continued success while opposing political forces cannot confidently predict that either party will be in power. In this sense It is preferred to limit the majority. The first is the access to the court. one can array access to the court on a spectrum from very limited access, as in the original design of the Austrian model in 1920, in which only state and federal governments could bring cases, to the present design of the German Constitutional Court, where not only political bodies but individuals may enjoy direct access through constitutional petitions and ordinary judges may refer questions as well. (Ginsburg, Pg. 36). This is the most important factor of judicial review because without cases coming into a court there will be no court. If a court does not have cases being brought to it, it will not be able to expand in power. Judicial review has different effects in different societies. A good example is the American courts. Stare Decisis allows old law to stay in place while new law if put in place and followed. In a centralized system the court has the power to declare the laws unconstitutional and immediately void. I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had vocal teachers tell me that they cannot believe how high I can sing after hearing my speaking voice. Many vocal professionals tell me that I must be an alto and I have had many vocal issues. I have been told it is because teachers are pushing my voice to high and the opposite that it is because I speak too low. I blame it on being a very unhealthy human being. Research has shown a correlation between the speaking and singing voices (Phillips, 236). Poor speaking habits can lead to poor singing habits, which can lead to vocal problems. Many cases of vocal nodules have been reported in children as a result of poor speaking habits. Singing and speaking have similar physiology, which can make it difficult for students that have a poor speaking voice to then go onto having a good singing voice. The speaking voice is learned young in students and often times music teachers do not have any control over it. When the students reach our classrooms it is our job to almost reteach students how to speak so that they can sing properly. Otherwise, many of the students will develop problems that they will work on fixing for the rest of their lives. In the entertainment industry, as well as every other profession in America, we see women struggling to be taken seriously. Fueled by the media s obsession with appearances, women are under extreme pressure to look and act a certain way to please the men around them. In the world of stand up comedy, there is another layer to that pressure. I m talking about the pressure to be funny. A post circulating the internet displays a triangle with the points labeled intelligent , good looking , and emotionally stable . In the center are the words pick two . Replace emotionally stable with funny and you have the dilemma that female comedians are faced with. In a male dominated industry, they are forced to decide whether they want to reject today s idea of beauty and play up their wit and intelligence, or highlight their appearance and play the dumb blonde for laughs. It is only recently that comediennes are refusing to comprise their integrity to succeed. Christopher Hitchens famously argued in a 2007 Vanity Fair that women aren t funny or haven t developed their comedy skills because they don t have to. Comedy, he said, was a mating tool and women don t need that particular arrow in their quiver because they are pretty and make babies. Bad posture. Flitting eye contact. Mumbles a lot. These examples supports the topic because it shows that Sally was really hurt and trying to make it like nothing ever happened between Booker and her. This also supports this paragraph because she changed to a very happy person in the beginning and now upset and feels like she needs to lose weight. My second example is, that she is too upset to talk to anyone around her. For example in the text it states, I just want to ignore those people, she said sadly to the group. Can you do it, though? The mosaic is from Pella, Greece and dates to about 300 BCE. The piece currently resides in the Archaeological Museum in Pella. The mosaic is made entirely from pebbles of varying colors collected from the ground. The piece only has a few distinctive colors, the most prominent including black, white, and brown. White pebbles are used almost entirely for the two men s bodies, the dog, and part of the stag. Brown pebbles give character to the hair of the two men, body of the stag, and smaller elements like the eyes and lips of the figures. Finally, black pebbles create most of the background of the mosaic, marking a distinct contrast between the background and the white figures. Shading also beautifully enhances the mosaic, perhaps because of the limited color range. Especially noticeable are the cloaks of the two men. The use of light and shade seem to make the cloaks writhe over the powerful bodies they adorn. Shading defines the muscles of the men, accentuating their bodies and the power within them.
