Partisan Groups In The Holocaust
When someone mentions the Holocaust, the image that come to the minds of most people is that of the
starving Jews in concentration camps. Most people automatically think of the horrors that the Jews
went through, while some may even wonder how something as horrible as the Holocaust could have
been done. Not many people stop to think about how the Jews resisted. Jews resisted in small acts
almost every day. Whether it was something as small as praying or as large as blowing up a supply
train, Jews were able to block the Nazis from completely wiping out the Jewish culture. One particular
group of Jews who resisted were the partisans. The partisans were armed groups formed to fight
secretly against an occupying force. The Partisans resisted Nazi ... Show more content on

One partisan unit in Vilina derailed hundreds of supply trains, killing over three thousand Germans in
the process and making it more difficult for the Germans to fight in the war (USHMM). The partisans
often attacked military outposts and other strategic locations, such as power plants and factories, to
make it harder to make supplies for the war effort, but they never attacked civilians (JPEF). In most
cases, the partisans had the upper hand. They attacked at night when the Nazis were least expecting an
attack and the least amount of people would be hurt, and they knew the lay of the land better than the,
in many cases, foreign Germans (JPEF). Additionally, when the partisans could get information inside
of the Nazi labor camps, Jews on the inside would purposely sabotage weapons that they were
building for the Germans (JPEF). With these small attacks, partisan units were able to limit the
participation of the Nazis in the war, and decrease the damage that they were doing to the Jewish

Revision Of The Writing Process
A Study on Revision In The Writing Process
Typically, when most people think about the writing process they think of terms such as a thesis
statement, developing an outline, body paragraphs, conclusion; it s imperative to view writing this
way. We have only been taught THIS way of writing almost directly after we learned how to spell
words you decide what to write about, usually specified in the thesis statement, then you write a series
of paragraphs entailing how you came to this conclusion. Finally, you conclude your paper by
restating exactly what it was you spent an entire essay writing about. And most people will go their
entire lives believing that is the formula for an effective, well thought out work of literature. But how
often do we go back and read through our writing and completely resent how amateur and forced it
sounds? This is usually a direct result of a lack of revision within a work. Defined by the Merriam
Webster dictionary as a change or a set of changes that corrects or improves something and a new
version of something that has been corrected or changed, Revision is not a common word we think of
when writing this raises a serious question: how should you revise? In response to this to this, research
was conducted to find a general view as to the significance of revision within various individual s
writing processes. These results, along with research from several academic articles provide a clear
description as to where revision could be

Film Festival At Antelope Valley College
Title Undetermined
When taking a look at the extensive list of films I decided to pick and choose from a date range and
genre range. I wanted to not only focus on one area of film, but also on different aspects across the
board stylistically and ...... Some of the films I chose because they were tried and true favourites of
mine, and some I chose because I had never heard of them before. I wanted to comfort and challenge
myself at the same time while taking into consideration what may work best for the theoretical Film
Festival at Antelope Valley College. When I think of Film Festivals I think of a presentation to help
entice the psyche toward a more progressive thought process. Films need to make the audience stop
and think for a little bit afterward, there needs to be a pause, a moment of huh... , even if brief. It needs
to be something different, something unusual. Film Festivals shouldn t be for standard films, they
shouldn t be for the mass marketed and well known. So as much as I loved, Star Wars for example, I
knew it was less than ideal for this situation. This assignment also gave me the opportunity to reassess
the validity of some films that I thought I had liked but upon second analysis, might not hold in such
high regard. In the end the films I chose are Juno, High Noon, The King s Speech, Exit Through the
Gift Shop, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and Apocalypse
Now. The Lancaster and the Antelope Valley area in general

The Practice Of Music And Enables Artists And Guest Curators
Preface Introduction
Have you ever rushed around Newcastle, totally preoccupied with the hectic hustle and bustle of city
life? Passersby are often too busy or late for something to really take in their surroundings. The
practice of busking has given Newcastle a soundtrack, a musical backdrop to the chaos of city life.
However, street performers are often restricted to limited areas in order to oblige the regulations set
out by the council.
This book introduces the aim of the project whereas to promote the practice of music and enables
artists and guest curators to explore their creativity while participating and engaging with music. A
platform provided to become the mass populist entertainment for the population.

The lack of interesting places for concert has affected people to have less interest in visiting music
spaces and there should be a suitable one for the use, enjoyment and also benefit the people of this
vibrant city.
It may not be the ultimate music space, but the premise of this project is to unite musicians with
supported facilities and give them the opportunity to promote their own music. Audiences will be
offered with a fully immersive ambience and a complete program of professional cultural
entertainment.
The book will demonstrate the intention of creating the music hall through its position first and
foremost as an entertainment, and secondly as a cultural presence that is increasingly seen as a key
element in regeneration plans.3
Nature of Subject / Topics
A lot of people s perception of buskers is both brutally frank and ironic despite this artistic practice
has always been as part of the contribution to this culture. They are far less appreciative of these
performances that are carried out with a genre which they could never normally encounter. In
consideration of the addressed matter, the music hall services as a stage that nurtures homegrown
talent and accommodates wandering players.
Given a few successful real life examples showing that there are indeed some of the world s most
famous artists started as street performers, from

Gender Roles In The Daughters Of England
The text The Daughters of England , is a book written to provide guidance for young women,
pertaining to their character and behaviour; the book creates the framework for the role of women in
the household. It instructs that women must offer a virtuous influence on men as wives, mothers, and
daughters as part of their role within society. Estimated to have been written in 1842, in London,
Daughters of England was penned by Sarah Stickney Ellis; a popular author of Victorian conduct
literature. Ellis popularity implies that the source was widely circulated at the time, thus represents an
important view of contemporary society. This document reveals to us the ideals expected of middle
class women of the time, and the principles that were envisioned for them, relating in particular to the
separate spheres ideology.
This ideology outlines and endorses separate spheres for women and men, the domestic and public
spheres. This idea derived from the natural features of each gender. As women were considered to be
physically weaker than men, they were more suitable to belong to the private sphere. As Ellis writes,
women s strength is in her influence , demonstrating the view that, though physically fragile, women
were morally superior to men.
Raised in a single parent household, Ellis developed a strong sense of morals regarding home life.
Having helped raise her siblings, we can infer that this influenced her belief in the importance of
women in a matriarchal role. Ellis writes of the necessity to be educated properly, stating that school
education forms but a very small part of that which they will be expected to possess . This statement
can be reinforced from the Victorian notion that a woman of the upper or middle class, though did
receive an education, were expected to become accomplished as opposed to academically
knowledgeable. , thus Ellis s writings can be regarded as typical of the time.
The source tells young women that they must be content to be inferior to men , a statement that
corroborates with the contemporary laws of England. Society was deeply patriarchal, with men legally
authorised to use physical violence to chastise his wife as she belonged to him. Women who wanted to

Baroque Art And The Baroque Era
Baroque Ornamentation
The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes improvised outlet for
period musicians that spurred from human instinct to manipulate melodic material. This urge to
change melodic material by altering the rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music
including Gregorian chant, which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of ornamentation.
It can be seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music. Although
improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows itself in the style of
improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers use improvisation as a means of self
expression and a way to express composer intent. During the Baroque era, there were many different
styles and methods of ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and composer of a piece of
music. Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the development of
ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand how to play a more
historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from about 1600 to 1750. The music from
the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and in harmonic complexity. Composers also relied on
the performers ability to add ornamentation and to complete the harmonies in a basso continue score
through improvisation. These scores consisted of a bass line with numbers and symbols written above,
to indicate the

Mike Rezendes Corruption In The Film Spotlight
Society relates corruption due to possession of power with the government or other politicians. People
rarely think of those they trust, such as family members or closest friends. Despite that, some
individuals use their positions to take advantage of that trust.
In Spotlight, a team within the Boston Globe called Spotlight investigates claims that priests are
molesting children. The film follows the journalists gathering evidence of the corrupted system
(Spotlight).
The characters in Spotlight each act base on moral, journalistic, or legal ethics.
Journalistic and legal ethics describe what individual can and cannot do due to the nature of their

Mike Rezendes is biased against the church, wanting to show the public what they have done so that
no more children would have to suffer. Rezendes wanted to quickly print the article because he was
afraid that in another newspaper s hands, the article would only be swept under the rug.
This shows the audience that Rezendes places value in the journalistic ethic of completeness.
Rezendes was scared that another newspaper would print the article ahead of them and not investigate
the full story. However, by rushing the story the team will cut down on investigating and exclude
valuable information. Rezendes, did not care for both sides of the story, which went against the
journalistic ethic of fairness (Ethics Handbook). Although it may not be preferred to report the priests
perspective, the story must be impartial (Spotlight).

further into the story, she stopped going. Pfeiffer has virtue ethics because out of concern, she decides

Pros And Cons Of Obamacare
In Chapter four of Ten Letters , there is a letter to President Obama written by Natoma Canfield, a
woman whose health insurance became increasingly unaffordable after she survived cancer. After
receiving Natoma s letter, Obama often carried it with him as he spoke of the need to reform
healthcare to make it more affordable to those who needed it the most and to expand coverage to those
who could not get it. The Affordable Care Act, which came to be called Obamacare in the news media,
passed through both houses of congress without a single Republican vote in favor and was signed into
law by President Obama in March 2010. Obamacare aims to let citizens have their own health care

The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney
Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie
Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar
school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of
Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of
his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian,
French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s
Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s
Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie
Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare
and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre,
Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost
world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an
epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape
reality.
In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to
cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive
imagery.

Machiavelli Vs Lao Tzu
In any place where people live, there is a community, and there is a leader of the community, and it is
obvious that people have needed a leader to command them from the initial existence of the human
beings. Therefore, people have endeavored to be a great, admired and efficient leader, and many
educated people suggested how to be a good leader in each era. Then, what would be the best way to
become a great leader? Among these educated people, Machiavelli was one who suggested the
methods of becoming a powerful prince through many examples and the histories of Kings lived in the
past. On the other hand, Lao Tzu suggested completely different methods of becoming a great leader
based on the Tao. Three major differences of their suggestions were about war, fortune and mercy. ...

arms than personal luxuries, and he said being disarmed would make him to be despised. However,

not to force anyone because the outcome will result in revenge. He believed that if a person does not
harm others, they will not harm the person as well. Furthermore, they had different ideas of preparing
war. Machiavelli encouraged a prince to train himself in peace time more than in time of war, and Lao
Tzu said, No greater wrong than preparing to defend yourself . It is evident that Machiavelli
emphasized on preparing war all the time, but Lao Tzu did not even mention about preparing

The Suspense Of The Novel The Great Gatsby By F. Scott...
The certainty with which the protagonist assumes her characters shows the intuitive desire by humans
to be who they are not. At the opening of the novella, the protagonist watches the mistresses at the

society stopped men from acting in such a way around her. Upon returning the next night and meeting

putting on almost what face she pleased, and knew so exactly how to form her behavior to the
character she represented, (Haywood, 2805). By including this, Haywood is suggesting that the
protagonist is able to change who she is without any detection, but that humans are capable of doing
the same thing, and do so every day when they get dressed in the morning. The protagonist changes
her behaviors and clothing in order to comply with that character, and even when she is playing
herself, she is still dresses and acts in order to comply with the character expected of her. She is
certain of every action she does, but also that every thing she does is necessary in order to fulfill what
is expected of a character, even if that character is her. The protagonist s certainty of character
modification, both in her actions and mindset, translate to society. Beauplaisir, who does not undergo
any physical character changes, is certain in how is character acts depending on who he is around. The
novella depicts Beauplaisir as a character who is able to manipulate himself and the conversation,
depending on who he is with and the situation. This is seen first at the playhouse, when talking to the
protagonist as the mistress. Haywood writes: ...he changed the

The Importance Of Teaching And Learning
Teachers involving students in the learning process should require them to utilize thinking skills of
higher order. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each
student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have
activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the
opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are
in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the
class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning;
as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must
encourage students to use higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process,
(Bonwell Eison, n.d.). Higher learning thinking skills students should be using in and out the
classroom are analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, (Carlos, 2017). For instance, Ms. Carlos, an
instructor at McNair High School is teaching a lesson on Algebraic Concepts and understanding their
terms and formulas, she can involve the students in group discussions by having the students to work
formulas on the board. Another way she can have the students use high learning thinking is to include
various applications using the formulas in the lessons. One technique that is

old, married with four children, and currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area. He was born in
Karachi, Pakistan where he lived in an extended family with his parents, brothers sisters,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their kids. He had moved to Canada on October 26th 1990, by
himself, to fulfill his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba in Computer Science and
Math. He is now working at CGI as a Professional IT Manager. He describes himself as introverted,
responsible, independent, hard working, driven, logical and analytical. This is evident throughout his
interview, as he had a very analytical approach on observing advertisements. While Atif was growing
up back in Pakistan, advertising was a lot less relevant because of where he was, who he was and how
he interacted with the media. Firstly, there was only one channel that ran on TV from 5pm until 11pm.
Though, only on Sundays, the channel started from early mornings. There were no 24 hour broadcasts.
Very select commercials appeared on TV, that too mostly for necessity items. One that he remembers
fondly is a commercial for toothpaste. What attracted Atif about this commercial was its catchy jingle.

A Report On Flight Training
Abstract
Flight Training Devices or commonly known as simulators, are frequently used in military aviator
training and is an important training tool for safely teaching flying skills in a controlled environment
that is normally too dangerous, or costly to acquire through the use of an actual aircraft. The U.S. Air
Force and Army typically use simulators to safely train new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
operators on critical tasks performed for proficiency and certification without the use of costly flyable
aviation resources. Research has discovered there is a lack of conventional standardized training for
any of the armed services, but an inter service roadmap is planned for combining future training
programs. The researcher will analyze multiple military and civilian aeronautical based articles on the
subjects of simulator use for operator training including Army and Air Force future requirements for
UAVs, and applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Findings will be clear
regarding the need for cost saving initiatives and standardized UAV training, including the
implications of new FAA regulations. Research will also delve into the fact that inconsistent operator
training is a problem for incorporating different types of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) into the
National Airspace (NAS). It is also determined that future military training will be affected by FAA
research and findings on this subject. Finally, the results will reveal the need for

Stories that include the involvement of people in music scenes being labelled as deviants have gone

some cases, inhuman, they can be sympathized with because the motives behind her actions follow the
patterns of human nature. Medea s murderous revenge plan can obviously be seen as evil and most
people will jump to the conclusion that because of this plan, Medea herself is evil. However, it is her

had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They are at Farfrae s affair in the
West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs between Henchard and Farfrae,
and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae
hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s belief that intelligence is a positive trait to
have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains favor in the town while Henchard does not and
starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control
and understands how to control his anger. After Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty,
Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying,
You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Royalty be
damned, said Henchard. I am as loyal to you, come to that! I am not here to argue.

Exploring Judaism
Judaism, which originated in the middle east, is one of the oldest religions in the world. Judaism is the
religion from where Catholicism and Islam have their roots. The main difference between Judaism and
the previously mentioned religions is that Judaism is based on the old testament entirely excluding the
new testaments in its teachings. Jews believe that they are the people chosen by God and that because
of the covenant they have the duty, more than any other group of people, to keep the law of God. The
law of God in Judaism comes in the form of the Torah. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Numbers and Deuteronomy, which are said to have been written by Moses, form the Torah. Judaism

When you enter the temple the object that stands out the most is the big candlelight like structure on
the upper part of the wall behind the stage. Later I learned that the wall below the candlelight could be
open to reveal a sanctuary that is supposed to represent the arc that the Jews carried through the
dessert. Although the one in the temple does not utilize olive oil or real fire, the candlelight on top
represents the eternal light that the sanctuary had which burn with pure olive oil. The arc is an
extremely important symbol in Judaism. It contains several beautiful Torah s with covers with
different captivating designs. The beauty of the Torah s cover is important because it is the word of
God and it is a way too honor God. The Torah s are to be written in parchment by a Jewish scribe who
has special training and it takes about a year for one to written. The Torah s kept on the arc are usually
only taken out on special occasions such as Bar Mitzvah or a Bat Mitzvah. Jonah a boy about thirteen
years old was to have his Bar Mitzvah the day following the service I attended. This event allowed me
to observed a slightly different service. During this service I could observe how Jonah and his family
were made to be part of the service more actively than the rest. Their attire was extremely formal, they
were sitting on the front, and both Jonah and his older sister were made to lead prayer. Jonah

Green-Wood Cemetery Burial Analysis
Throughout the course, I have paid close attention to the different methods of burial with hopes of
finding an option suitable for my interests when I pass in the future. At Green Wood Cemetery in
Brooklyn, I took an interest in Amy Cunningham, an advocate for green burials. She had many
wonderful experiences and expert opinions on the subject matter of types of burial practices but
mostly accommodated natural full body burials. The topic of green burials interested me greatly and
upon further research, I found a sect of green burials where participants would use their cremains to
help facilitate the growth of a tree. These tree burials seemed like a great solution the question I had

Similarities Between The American Revolution And The...
The Glorious Revolution and The American Revolution had similarities. Each ended with practically
the same thing as each other. They both are just in different times and with different people. The
Glorious Revolution, also known as the 1688 Revolution, basically put an end to King James II and it
started to put a start to religious freedom. King James was a Catholic. He wanted everyone to worship
that religion. In 1687 James created a declaration of indulgence. It suspended the penal laws against
dissenters and recusants against his religion. In April 1688, he made another declaration of indulgence,
saying that every sunday everyone must come to the church and worship his religion. There were
people who tried to petition against him like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the religion they wanted. When this happened Britain came along with them so they wouldn t get too

Sdla Case Control Study
EVIDENCE BASED Increasing physical demands and training requirements for athletes competing in
overhead sports or activities have the potential to create injuries to the glenoid labrum and can cause
shoulder pain and dysfunction.1 Superior labral anterior posterior (SLAP) lesions can occur either in
isolation or in conjuncture with a broad spectrum of other shoulder injuries, such as rotator cuff tears,
glenohumeral instability, and isolated biceps tendon ruptures.1 The detection of SLAP lesions has
developed with the improvements in diagnostic imaging, but physical examination tests remain
nonspecific.1 Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review three different research studies
pertaining to the diagnostic accuracy of SLAP lesion injuries. In a case control study performed by Oh

different physical examination tests for the diagnosis of type II SLAP lesions. Sixty eight individuals

Gallstone Case Study
The prevalence of gallstones varies with the geographical region. In the western world, the rates range
from approximately 8% in men to 16% in women.3 The typical course of cholelithiasis often begins as
asymptomatic gallstones found incidentally on imaging studies. However, 2% of asymptomatic
patients become symptomatic per year.8 Biliary colic is the most common symptom to manifest and
approximately 20 40% of patients have recurring pain.8 Asymptomatic patients who have calcified
gallbladders or large stones 2cm have a greater risk for gallbladder carcinoma and as a result these
patients are recommended to have prophylactic cholecystectomy.8 Medical treatment is only advised

The initial plan started with ordering a CBC, CMP, amylase and lipase STAT. These are all standard
labs that help to rule out gallbladder pathology as well as our other differential diagnoses. Her vital
signs were stable and the physical exam revealed only moderate TTP of the RUQ and epigastric
region. The lab results revealed no leukocytosis, no elevation of liver enzymes, bilirubin, amylase,
lipase, alk phos or any other signs of cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis or other potential signs of
infection. The plan of care began with keeping the patient NPO. This is recommended as this keeps
the patient from further pain secondary to food stimulating gallbladder contraction.5 It also allows the
patient to be prepared for surgery if urgent cholecystectomy is required. The next step was beginning
IV normal saline to keep her well hydrated. After this we began to give her medication through the IV
including Zofran for her nausea. Zofran is an effective anti emetic and there were no contraindications
for use in this patient. We also gave her Morphine 2 mg IV for pain control. Opioids are an effective
option for a patient with significant biliary colic.6 Although NSAIDS are another option for pain
control, PUD was part of the differential diagnosis so NSAIDS were not an appropriate therapy. We
ordered an abdominal ultrasound as this is the diagnostic test of choice for cholelithiasis. The
ultrasound revealed multiple gallstones in the gallbladder, some mild gallbladder thickening, and some
dilatation of the common bile duct. At this point we consulted GI who scheduled the patient for MRCP
in the morning in order rule out choledocholithiaisis. We also consulted the surgery team who
admitted the patient. The stated they would likely plan for laparoscopic

Bonding In Othello
There are bonds in society that stem from a multitude of traits that one would share with another, such
as race, age, religious beliefs, wealth, social standing, and most especially, gender. Male and female
tend to be generalized as the main combination of the genders in relation to intimacy and marital
stigma in correlation to the Bible s Adam and Eve; however, that combination is not true when the
situation is societal bonds. As seen in works of literature from centuries back and even up until now,
there is a difference between male to male bonding, female to female bonding, and male to female
bonding. In Shakespeare s Othello, he dissects the universal and timeless truth of the bonds between
the two genders that the majority of the modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since women have little to no power for themselves, there is not much use of clinging on to other
females for a push up the social scale. Two women teaming together is not the same impact as two
men teaming up together. The homosocial bond between women is broken and scarred and has
prevailed that way through history. Men would dictate the ideal woman whom had to abide by the
codes of silence and obedience. When women would transgress from these codes, they would be seen
as disorderly, which is a term which lead to cataclysmic destruction of social order (Hall, 263). The
least women would want to do is team up with other women whom are looked upon as outcasts.
Women are known to be evil and deceitful, so it isn t seen as a good thing for women to come together
to bond. As seen in Othello, the female to female bond is skewed and is weak when women are not
completely honest to each other. Emilia withheld information from Desdemona, which eventually lead
to both of their deaths. Women are not held accountable for their honesty to each other, though it is
seen to be a vital trait in order to be a good wife to their husband. Desdemona and Emilia have this
special homosocial bond that proves to be strong near the resolution of the play, but throughout the
rest of the story, was damaged and not worthy of being compared to the male to male bond. The
devastating part about female bonding, is that

Guilt In The Secret, By Moravia And Dagerman
Guilt is feeling anger, disappointment and/or shame to an individual for something they have done
accidentally or purposely. One´s conscience haunts and eat them from inside out for the rest of their
lives. Stefan Zweig, a novelist and a journalist, once said that ¨no guilt is forgotten so long as the
conscience still knows of it. This quote reflects to two short stories, ¨The Secret¨ and ¨To Kill A Child¨
where its characters made wrong choices that ends up to tragedy they would never be able to forget for
it is in their guilty conscience. Trying to forget and not listen to an individual s conscience is
expressed differently regarding each work s conflict and point of view, yet presented similarly
regarding the delivery of the story s purpose. The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moravia and Dagerman used different ways to help the audience to expand their understanding of the
two characters. In The Secret , Moravia used first person point of view which shows the inner
thoughts of the main character. This have helped readers to understand what Gino was thinking and
feeling which contributed to reader s further insights and view of Gino to why he run away and did not
take responsibility for his wrong choices. Using first person P.O.V. also shows how Gino regretted and
questioned his actions that [he] just couldn t understand why [he] hadn t stopped, why [he] hadn t tried
to help the poor guy (Moravia 200). On the contrary, Dagerman used third person point of view and
shows the narrator s interpretation of character s thoughts. He also used words to name and describe
the characters like naming the character the man instead of naming them. This technique sends us a
message that this literary work is to generalize the message that applies to everyone. Also to show that
even though an individual is not an evil man... carefree and cheerful (Dagerman) they could make

Coach Carter Comparison
Life is an inexplicable process of existence. It has never been understood and will probably not be
understood in the years to come. In life we see comparisons and contrasts everyday in our lives in one
way or another. At the same time it is astonishing too, how one situation, person or movie can have
amazing resemblances to other situations and movies. It is always a whirlpool of a mixture of
comparisons and contrasts. One just needs an observant eye or a magnifying glass to look at things
differently. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and Pursuit of Happiness .
Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who tries to mend his
basketball team into becoming educated students along with strong athletes. Pursuit of Happiness
directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make ends meet, and raise his
son after the mother walks out on them. After watching these two movies, the audience is left
wondering how these directors or writers can think alike yet have contrasts at the same time. Both
movies display technical codes, theme of motivation and the analysis of the main characters.

Authoritarianism In The Cold War
The end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted in major shift in United
States foreign policy. For years, the United States supported tyrannical dictators in return for stable
anti communist government receptive to United States interests. The Cold War resulted in a new world
order with the United States as the lone global hegemonic power. In Eastern Europe in particular, the
end of the Cold War ushered in an era of economic growth and a large increase in the number of
liberal democracies. Although the world saw a large increase in liberal democracies, a new regime
type referred to as competitive authoritarianism began to emerge. According to Levitsky and Way, In

In these systems, the regimes possess some of these characteristics but have found ways to manipulate
the system to consolidate their power. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by
banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co
optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant
judiciaries, and other state agencies to legally harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behavior from
critics . While it is apparent that these regimes are not fully democratic, it would be unfair to label
them as fully authoritarian either. Unlike traditional totalitarian governments, the persistence of true
democratic institutions in competitive authoritarian regimes allows the opposition to contest, weaken
and occasionally even defeat autocratic incumbents. While these situations are generally uncommon,
these situations are possible in competitive authoritarianism due to four independent means, the
electoral arena, the legislature, the judiciary and the media. These four branches are virtually
independent of the executive control however, unlike in democracies, the competitive authoritarian
regimes use its power to undermine their independence. In regards to the electoral arena, large scale
abuses of state power, biased media coverage, harassment of opposition candidates and activists are
widespread, legislatures tend to be relatively weak, the

London. He is known as the founder of the Virgin brand and to be quite the adventurer. The Virgin
brand consists of more than 400 companies and to mention some of those are Virgin Atlantic, Virgin
Galactic, Virgin Trains and Virgin Mobile. He as a person has made several attempts to break
numerous world records. Although he had to try 2 times, he broke the record in fastest Atlantic Ocean
crossing with a boat. He also made a record when he crossed the English Channel in an amphibious
vehicle. In general he is very flamboyant, e.g. he made a reality show where 16 contestants should do
a lot of stunts, which could be to walk a line between two hot air balloons and business related
challenges, in order to win 1 million dollars. His role in the Virgin brand is very crucial and without
there would not be any Virgin brand. He has taken a lot of chances that many would not take and he
has made himself a front figure of the company, which means that he does all of these events and
adventures, not only because he like to discover the world in an extreme way, he also does it because
it gives the company such a high value of marketing. When he tried to cross the Atlantic Ocean the
first time, he failed and had to be rescued by a helicopter. That event made a huge media coverage all
around the world and pictures of the Virgin Atlantic Challenger, which is the boat where the Virgin

The History of African American Slavery
The History of African American Slavery Tongela Vaughan Axia College of University of Phoenix
The History of African American Slavery A slave is someone who is owned by another human. They
do as they are told to do by their owners. African Americans had an unfair start in America, by being
captured and brought over from Africa to be slaves. Do you know how slaves were treated? The
conditions and treatment of slaves were different fromthe average American. Do you know how
slavery came to an end? The slaves receivedtheir freedom in different types of ways. Before long,
slavery was ended and they were set free to live their lives according to their own choice. For the

Once they saved enough money, they were able to buy their freedom Finally, slaves were able to see
the light at the other end of the long tunnel of harsh treatment on the plantations. Slavery ultimately
ended in the United States following Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, which
freed slaves that were rebelling against the federal government. In 1865, slavery was abolished.
Thanks to President Abraham Lincoln, the slaves were finally a free race. There was one thing that
helped to keep the slaves believing that they would receive their freedom, and that they will see better
days ahead. That was there firm belief in god. They would hold church, or what they would call
religious revivals, out in a field. Having that belief kept them strong and held the families together that
was not traded or auctioned off. Slave owners initially resisted evangelicals preaching to their bond
people, but as the revival movement spread, a few came to consider it their Christian duty to teach
their slaves about the bible. Converting their original religions to Christianity became part of
accepting America as home. {draw:frame} This article advertises the trading or selling of African
Americans who have been transported by boat to America. The name of the boat that transported the
African Americans was named the Ship Bance. {draw:frame} This picture

Buddhism Is An Indispensable Element Of Chinese And...
Buddhism has been the main religion of china for several thousands of years. In fact, Buddhism is an
indispensable element of Chinese philosophy and literature. As we all know, Buddhism originated in
India and first spread to China around 100BC. Nevertheless, (Mahayana) Buddhism in China
separated itself from the mainstream Buddhism and created a new form of Bodhisattva precept instead
of following the Indian Vinaya precept. In fact , the distinct Chinese history and culture played
significant roles in the development and formation of Mahayana Buddhism . The change of Chinese
society also had a great impact on the doctrine and status of Mahayana Buddhism. In this paper, I will
illustrate the reason why Buddhism was widely accepted by China as an alien religion , analyze how
the indigenous philosophy such as Taoism and Confucianism affected the Mahayana concept and find
the relationship between Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese Imperialism. Chinese has always been a
confident nation most of the time. As they believe that China is the Celestial Empire of the world,
Chinese rulers and scholars are reluctant to accept heterodox knowledge, especially religion. For
hundreds of years, Confucianism had been the essence of Chinese Philosophy. However, By the
middle of the second century. A.D, the great Han Empire was on the edge of disintegration. The upper
level of Han socio political order was riven by conflict and the elite was frustrated by uncertainty . On

Dbq Cholera Scarlet Fever
An epidemic occurs when a disease spreads to more people in one area then usually happens. There
have been many epidemics in history that have had devastating effects. Two epidemics that occurred
right here in the United States were cholera and scarlet fever. From the 1830 s to the 1860 s, cholera
spread throughout the United States killing many people. And in the late 1850 s scarlet fever spread
throughout the New England area of the United States. For both of these terrible diseases it is not clear
what stopped their rapid spread. Today there is a vaccine for cholera but not for scarlet fever.
However, there are ways to protect yourself from catching these diseases. New and stronger illnesses
seem to be happening all the time and are in the news. However, we still need to be aware of these
diseases from the past so we can keep ourselves healthy. Between the 1830 s to 1860 s, cholera spread
into the United States from India by trade routes. Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by
drinking or eating material that is infected with Vibrio cholerae. Cholera causes watery diarrhoea, but
can show days later or never show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scarlet fever is a bacteria infection. The symptoms are a red rash on the body, fever, and a sore throat.
It is an interesting fact that the same bacteria that causes strep throat causes scarlet fever. And I m sure
we ve all had strep throat at some time! But in the past, scarlet fever killed mostly young children,
nearly 95%, because children don t have a strong immune system that is able to fight back against
such a strong disease. There is no vaccine for scarlet fever but there are antibiotics to treat it. Also,
improved hygiene such as washing hands frequently, and also better health care has stopped the
disease from spreading and killing as it once did. However, many poor developing countries still
struggle with with deadly

John Calhoun s Protective Tariffs
John Calhoun started off his career in politics as a supporter of a strong national government and
protective tariffs. He became Jackson s vice president in 1828, and supported Jackson in nationalism
and the American system. However, a bitter feud between Jackson and Calhoun emerged. As Secretary
of War back in 1818 for President Monroe, Calhoun wanted to punish Jackson for the incursion into
Florida that he lead, and Calhoun had every right too; Jackson disobeyed the orders he was given!
Jackson despised Calhoun because of that and Calhoun realized that he was slowly losing favor with
Jackson. He had hopes of succeeding Jackson as president but Van Buren seemed to have a better
chance of being the next successor. Now at the time, the Tariff

Compare And Contrast The Southern Colonies
Southern Colonies Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia Virginia was the
first successful southern colony, Maryland became at first a catholic experiment and then quickly
mirrored Virginia for its cash crops. The Carolinas had been created after the english civil war ended.
Challenges from France and Spain led the king to want a buffer zone between the cash crop Carolinas
and enemies, thus Georgia was created. Southern colonies depended on slaves whether it was for the
economy, society, or their own personal needs. Southerners who did not have slaves still depended on
them just on the soul fact that they were beneath them and made them feel better about their place in
society. The economy in the south depended on slavery for the cotton growing areas and slave trading.
Slavery played an important role in all of the Southern colonies. Southern ... Show more content on

York for the Dutch, and before it was called New York, it was called New Amsterdam. New York was
claimed by the dutch for a trading and furs. Quakers are dedicated to experiencing God personally

  • 2. Partisan Groups In The Holocaust When someone mentions the Holocaust, the image that come to the minds of most people is that of the starving Jews in concentration camps. Most people automatically think of the horrors that the Jews went through, while some may even wonder how something as horrible as the Holocaust could have been done. Not many people stop to think about how the Jews resisted. Jews resisted in small acts almost every day. Whether it was something as small as praying or as large as blowing up a supply train, Jews were able to block the Nazis from completely wiping out the Jewish culture. One particular group of Jews who resisted were the partisans. The partisans were armed groups formed to fight secretly against an occupying force. The Partisans resisted Nazi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One partisan unit in Vilina derailed hundreds of supply trains, killing over three thousand Germans in the process and making it more difficult for the Germans to fight in the war (USHMM). The partisans often attacked military outposts and other strategic locations, such as power plants and factories, to make it harder to make supplies for the war effort, but they never attacked civilians (JPEF). In most cases, the partisans had the upper hand. They attacked at night when the Nazis were least expecting an attack and the least amount of people would be hurt, and they knew the lay of the land better than the, in many cases, foreign Germans (JPEF). Additionally, when the partisans could get information inside of the Nazi labor camps, Jews on the inside would purposely sabotage weapons that they were building for the Germans (JPEF). With these small attacks, partisan units were able to limit the participation of the Nazis in the war, and decrease the damage that they were doing to the Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Revision Of The Writing Process A Study on Revision In The Writing Process Typically, when most people think about the writing process they think of terms such as a thesis statement, developing an outline, body paragraphs, conclusion; it s imperative to view writing this way. We have only been taught THIS way of writing almost directly after we learned how to spell words you decide what to write about, usually specified in the thesis statement, then you write a series of paragraphs entailing how you came to this conclusion. Finally, you conclude your paper by restating exactly what it was you spent an entire essay writing about. And most people will go their entire lives believing that is the formula for an effective, well thought out work of literature. But how often do we go back and read through our writing and completely resent how amateur and forced it sounds? This is usually a direct result of a lack of revision within a work. Defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as a change or a set of changes that corrects or improves something and a new version of something that has been corrected or changed, Revision is not a common word we think of when writing this raises a serious question: how should you revise? In response to this to this, research was conducted to find a general view as to the significance of revision within various individual s writing processes. These results, along with research from several academic articles provide a clear description as to where revision could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wanted to not only focus on one area of film, but also on different aspects across the board stylistically and ...... Some of the films I chose because they were tried and true favourites of mine, and some I chose because I had never heard of them before. I wanted to comfort and challenge myself at the same time while taking into consideration what may work best for the theoretical Film Festival at Antelope Valley College. When I think of Film Festivals I think of a presentation to help entice the psyche toward a more progressive thought process. Films need to make the audience stop and think for a little bit afterward, there needs to be a pause, a moment of huh... , even if brief. It needs to be something different, something unusual. Film Festivals shouldn t be for standard films, they shouldn t be for the mass marketed and well known. So as much as I loved, Star Wars for example, I knew it was less than ideal for this situation. This assignment also gave me the opportunity to reassess the validity of some films that I thought I had liked but upon second analysis, might not hold in such high regard. In the end the films I chose are Juno, High Noon, The King s Speech, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and Apocalypse Now. • 6. Gender Roles In The Daughters Of England The text The Daughters of England , is a book written to provide guidance for young women, pertaining to their character and behaviour; the book creates the framework for the role of women in the household. It instructs that women must offer a virtuous influence on men as wives, mothers, and daughters as part of their role within society. Estimated to have been written in 1842, in London, Daughters of England was penned by Sarah Stickney Ellis; a popular author of Victorian conduct literature. Ellis popularity implies that the source was widely circulated at the time, thus represents an important view of contemporary society. This document reveals to us the ideals expected of middle class women of the time, and the principles that were envisioned for them, relating in particular to the separate spheres ideology. This ideology outlines and endorses separate spheres for women and men, the domestic and public spheres. This idea derived from the natural features of each gender. As women were considered to be physically weaker than men, they were more suitable to belong to the private sphere. As Ellis writes, women s strength is in her influence , demonstrating the view that, though physically fragile, women were morally superior to men. Raised in a single parent household, Ellis developed a strong sense of morals regarding home life. Having helped raise her siblings, we can infer that this influenced her belief in the importance of women in a matriarchal role. Ellis writes of the necessity to be educated properly, stating that school education forms but a very small part of that which they will be expected to possess . This statement can be reinforced from the Victorian notion that a woman of the upper or middle class, though did receive an education, were expected to become accomplished as opposed to academically knowledgeable. , thus Ellis s writings can be regarded as typical of the time. The source tells young women that they must be content to be inferior to men , a statement that corroborates with the contemporary laws of England. Society was deeply patriarchal, with men legally authorised to use physical violence to chastise his wife as she belonged to him. Women who wanted to separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Baroque Art And The Baroque Era Baroque Ornamentation The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes improvised outlet for period musicians that spurred from human instinct to manipulate melodic material. This urge to change melodic material by altering the rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music including Gregorian chant, which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of ornamentation. It can be seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music. Although improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows itself in the style of improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers use improvisation as a means of self expression and a way to express composer intent. During the Baroque era, there were many different styles and methods of ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and composer of a piece of music. Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the development of ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand how to play a more historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from about 1600 to 1750. The music from the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and in harmonic complexity. Composers also relied on the performers ability to add ornamentation and to complete the harmonies in a basso continue score through improvisation. These scores consisted of a bass line with numbers and symbols written above, to indicate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape reality. In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive imagery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning; as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must encourage students to use higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process, (Bonwell Eison, n.d.). He had moved to Canada on October 26th 1990, by himself, to fulfill his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba in Computer Science and Math. He is now working at CGI as a Professional IT Manager. He describes himself as introverted, responsible, independent, hard working, driven, logical and analytical. This is evident throughout his interview, as he had a very analytical approach on observing advertisements. While Atif was growing up back in Pakistan, advertising was a lot less relevant because of where he was, who he was and how he interacted with the media. Firstly, there was only one channel that ran on TV from 5pm until 11pm. Though, only on Sundays, the channel started from early mornings. There were no 24 hour broadcasts. Very select commercials appeared on TV, that too mostly for necessity items. One that he remembers fondly is a commercial for toothpaste. A Report On Flight Training Abstract Flight Training Devices or commonly known as simulators, are frequently used in military aviator training and is an important training tool for safely teaching flying skills in a controlled environment that is normally too dangerous, or costly to acquire through the use of an actual aircraft. The U.S. Air Force and Army typically use simulators to safely train new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operators on critical tasks performed for proficiency and certification without the use of costly flyable aviation resources. Research has discovered there is a lack of conventional standardized training for any of the armed services, but an inter service roadmap is planned for combining future training programs. The researcher will analyze multiple military and civilian aeronautical based articles on the subjects of simulator use for operator training including Army and Air Force future requirements for UAVs, and applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Findings will be clear regarding the need for cost saving initiatives and standardized UAV training, including the implications of new FAA regulations. Research will also delve into the fact that inconsistent operator training is a problem for incorporating different types of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) into the National Airspace (NAS). It is also determined that future military training will be affected by FAA research and findings on this subject. Finally, the results will reveal the need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Michael Henchard Foil According to the Online Dictionary for Literary Devices, The etymology of the term foil testifies the aforementioned assertion as the word foil is taken from the practice of backing gems with foil (tool) so that they shine more brightly. Throughout The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy sets up multiple pairs of characters as foils to contrast them and express his opinion of what attributes a person should have. Michael Henchard, who cares more for personal gain, is a foil to Richard Newson, who cares for his wife and daughter. Elizabeth Jane Newson outshines Lucetta Templeman with her belief that a person s character is more valuable than outward appearance; in a similar sense, Donald Farfrae surpasses Henchard in character and shows ... But where are the folk? said Henchard, after the lapse of half an hour, during which time only two men and a woman had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They are at Farfrae s affair in the West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs between Henchard and Farfrae, and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s belief that intelligence is a positive trait to have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains favor in the town while Henchard does not and starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control and understands how to control his anger. After Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty, Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying, You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Royalty be damned, said Henchard. I am as loyal to you, come to that! I am not here to argue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two women teaming together is not the same impact as two men teaming up together. The homosocial bond between women is broken and scarred and has prevailed that way through history. Men would dictate the ideal woman whom had to abide by the codes of silence and obedience. When women would transgress from these codes, they would be seen as disorderly, which is a term which lead to cataclysmic destruction of social order (Hall, 263). The least women would want to do is team up with other women whom are looked upon as outcasts.
