The Despairing Act of Self Harm Essay
Have you ever, coincidentally, walked passed somebody with deep, open cuts on his/her wrist
and wondered what happened? Maybe, you thought it was a simple, harmless scratch caused by
obnoxious pets at home. Or maybe, you considered it as mild accidents, preferably caused by
doing arts and crafts at home or school. But, have you ever pondered thoroughly and have the idea
that those sad scarring were actually made by him/herself? Creating scars on your skin is actually
the action of self harm; the intentional hurting of one s self, direct to the body tissue, with or
without the intention of suicide. There are several types of self harm, such as hair pulling, banging
body parts, scratching, burning, ingestion of toxin, and the most frequent... Show more content on

Though, there are several motives of self harm, a person who self harms by any means seeks the
same personal effects: a sense of relief, a diversion from hurtful emotion by expressing it
externally, or to simply sense something when feeling numb and empty. Adolescents and
teenagers expects self harm as an escape, as a way out of struggles. However, self harm bears
great consequences to those who practice it. As a matter of fact, it has never been a solution to
complications. The truth is, self harm only gives temporary satisfaction, and provokes to further
misery and discomfort. Self harm brings several damages; it affects both one s mind and physical
features. Damages of self harm involves:
Permanent, painful scars
Inability to bring an end to it or addiction
Feeling useless
Self hatred or low self esteem
Permanent numbness in hand or wrist
Broken bones and bruises
Stress to hide the self injury from others
Anxiety that someone will discover it
Secluded from society
Although there are a number of after effects, the worst that could happen to one s life is death.
When a person became too dependent on self harm, he/she could have the desire to take his/her
own life. Regardless its familiarity in the midst of teenagers today, God has always ruled against
self harm. Believe it or not, self harm has been around for centuries. The false worshippers of Baal
in the Old Testament cut themselves as an

Difference Between Classical Conditioning And Operant...
According to Woolfolk (2005), learning is a process which causes permanent changes in
knowledge and behavior through experience. Learning is a key for every child to understand what
is going on around them and how should they react to that stimuli. It involves the use of cognitive
skills to interpret those signals and analyse them accordingly. Defecation or lesion in cognitive sites
may cause mental retardation or learning problems to them, thus, their mental maturity may be lag
behind their current age. The consequence is, they maybe little bit clumsy to understand certain
orders or command given by his or her parents. Conditioning is a primary step for every child to
learn. Morris and Maisto (2005) stated that, the well defined stimuli which may cause the
acquisition of specific pattern of behavior is what conditioning means. It is composed of two types,
Classical Conditioning and Operant Conditioning. Classical Conditioning which is first inspired by
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849 1936) is a learning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parents also give vitamin supplement for their child to avoid malnutrition. Next, the one who
involved in this therapy informed that their knowledge in the area of ASD is between and

in feeding the children somewhat help the clinicians in therapy session. They provoked the child
with food and reward by using verbal positive reinforcement as well as programs non removal of
the spoon that finally result in an increased in therapy session. Throughout this survey, we can
know how the therapy for the children with ASD that has feeding difficulties has been conducted

Reuben Log
In Alia Wong s Digitals Natives, Yet Strangers to the Web, Wong discusses the motives behind
Reuben Loewy s Living Online Lab as technology is misshapen into education and immobilizing
students from thinking critically. In other words, technology is creeping itself into a student s
learning environment causing a mayhem as educators incorrectly incorporate them alongside given
curriculums and set expectations that students are technology born prodigies. Technology has
digitized the traditional setting of a classroom with its enticement of quick access and efficiency.
As alluring as it is to Reuben Loewy that we follow along with the times, others believe otherwise,
because they believe it puts the students at risk of not only their... Show more content on

This concept is Loewy s interdisciplinary curriculum for the digital age, and from this, education
should change for the better. By highlighting important aspects of the program, Wong shows
opposers and concerned parents the solutions to their worries. Danger on the internet will always
be present, and it s all a matter of understanding of how to interact with the internet. If students don
t know how to properly interact on the internet, of course, parents are going to have their concerns.
This leads to the fearmongering and massive information campaigns over avoiding such issues,
which wouldn t be an issue if covered in school more in depth. In addition, according to Wong,
Loewy s concept is not the first either, University of Pennsylvania English Professor Kenneth
Goldsmith launched a course [in 2015] called Wasting Time on the Internet, where it teaches
students how to use technology appropriately, and use it to their advantage of gaining knowledge,
rather than wilting it away with societal norms. Therefore, digital citizenship becomes vital if
technology is to be a part of education, which Wong thrives in informing her

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Discussing the Elephant in the Room The topic of Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest
Hemingway continues to be a hot button issue, even 90 years after the story s publication.
Though not as scandalous as it must have been in 1927, it remains the subject of great debate.
Two lovers are awaiting a train that will whisk them away to Madrid for the purpose of an
abortion. Even though the decision was made before arriving at the station, they continue to
debate whether she will go through with it. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it
apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion and is concerned that she will change her mind,
however she is more concerned with the fate of her relationship with the man and the effects an
abortion may have on her. The first indication of a division between the lovers is the description
of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (2
3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the division between them. Upon
arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several alcoholic drinks during
their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and calm the anxiety.
Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their view of the
hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve never seen
one, (10). Here is where the proverbial can of worms is opened. The woman

INTRODUCTION
The difference between good health and disease is that health is the level of functional or
metabolic efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person s mind,
body and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain (as in good health or

There are two basic kinds of medication for treating asthma:
Control drugs to prevent attacks
Quick relief (rescue) drugs for use during attacks
Each type is described in more detail below.
Long term control drugs for asthma are used to prevent symptoms in people with moderate to
severe asthma. You must take them every day for them to work. Take them even when you feel okay.
Inhaled steroids prevent symptoms by preventing airway swelling. These work very well and are
almost always the first choice.
Long acting beta agonist inhalers also help prevent asthma symptoms. These drugs should be used
together with an inhaled steroid drug. It may be easier to use an inhaler that contains both drugs.
Other control drugs that may be used are:
Leukotriene inhibitors (such as Singulair and Accolate)
Omalizumab (Xolair)
Cromolyn sodium (Intal) or nedocromil sodium (Tilade)

Synthesis The kingdom of heaven is within the mind of a person, not within the collective
mindlessness of a crowd. In the articles, The Only True God and Jesus Christ Whom He Hath

totally different topics. This paper will be a breaking down of the two articles and finding the
similarities between the two of them. It will be interesting, but nothing is impossible. The two

Hitler had a theory that he could easily persuade people that were in large crowds. This is called
herd poisoning . He felt this was an environment where individuals could lose their identity and
be merged with the crowd. Whatever everyone else was feeling, that s what the individual would
feel too. This robbed people of their individual freedom. Assembled in a crowd, people lose their
powers of reasoning and their capacity for moral choice. Hitler, as they called him, was an
orator. The orator speaks to masses of individuals. They are at his mercy and, if he knows his
business, he can do what he likes with them. And Hitler definitely knew his business. He was
able, in his own words, to follow the lead of the great mass in such a way that from the living
emotion of his hearers the apt word which he needed would be suggested to him and in its turn
this would go straight to the heart of his hearers. He knew that if he tugged at the people s
heartstrings, they would listen to him and worship him. Which is exactly what he wanted. Hitler
was also a loud speaker, proclaiming the most secret desires, the least admissible instincts, the
sufferings and most personal revolts of a whole nation. He started doing all of this to the German
masses. Hitler was exploring and exploiting the secret fears and hopes, the cravings, anxieties and
frustrations of the German masses. The advertising experts then manipulate

Descriptive Essay About A Marching Band
Reset! I became overly acquainted with that word my freshman year of high school marching
band. It seemed to be the only word our director, Mr. Miller, would say to us, demanding the band
to return to their original positions and march the same several phrases tirelessly. To us, reset
became synonymous with torture. Little did I know, that repugnant little word was meant to
prepare me for one spectacular night. A night that gave family a whole new meaning.
The night of October fourth, on a crisp, autumnal Saturday, the Washington High School marching
band and color guard prepares for their biggest competition of the season. It is late, well past ten.
The moon is high, and the inky sky is peppered with brilliant, luminous stars. The millions of tiny
spotlights cast their ominous glow upon the color guard. Each of us is dressed impeccably in a
cropped denim jacket, white tank top and black spandex pants. Our hair is gelled back in slick
buns, our facial features exaggerated with heavy makeup and our lips carefully accented with
ruby red lipstick as the centerpiece of our costumes. Julie, our beloved instructor, shouts at us to
rehearse our choreography once more, even though we know it like the back of our hands. The
chilly October wind sweeps wiry strands of scorching red hair in front of Julie s face, obscuring her
motherly features like a mask. Her ruddy, freckled face is stern, but her eyes are soft with
adoration as she looks upon her color guard.

Journey Through Suburban Life in John Cheever s The Swimmer
The Swimmer, by John Cheever, illustrates one man s journey from a typical suburban life to
loneliness and isolation. This short story is characteristic of John Cheever s typical
characterizations of suburbia, with all it s finery and entrapments. Cheever has been noted for his
skill as a realist depicter of suburban manners and morals (Norton, p. 1861). Yet this story presents
a deeper look into Neddy Merril s downfall from the contentment of a summer s day to the
realization of darker times.

1863). He remains friendly, not rude, and continues upon his way.
As he continues from pool to pool, each house is described by the various occupants, who most
are drinking or having a party and welcome him, keeping his mind on the idea of being an explorer/
hero. The first inclination of a turning lies in the coming storm, the stand of cumulus cloud that
city had risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the percussiveness of thunder again
(Norton, p. 1864). As he starts again to make his way towards home, he begins to be a bit foggy,
wondering what time it has gotten to be. It is almost as if his mind is clouding over, the imagery
of darkness descending, it was growing dark; it was that moment when the pinheaded birds seem to
organize their song into some acute and knowledgeable recognition of the storm s approach
(Norton, p. 1865).
His growing fogginess becomes more apparent as he is unable to recall details of his life, ...and
rain lashed the Japanese lanterns that Mrs. levy had brought from Kyoto the year before last, or

about the Lindleys and their horses but the memory was unclear (Norton, p. 1865). He is baffled and

Edward De Vere And Francis Bacon Did Not Write...
Edward de Vere and Francis Bacon Did Not Write Shakespeare s Work People assume that just
because as Pruitt (2015) explains ...Nothing has been found documenting the 37 plays and 154
sonnets (p. 1) that Shakespeare did not do his own work. Everyone believes someone else with
more of an education is the mastermind behind the plays and sonnets. Someone like Christopher
Marlowe, Edward de Vere, Francis Bacon, or perhaps a group of people. To begin with, examine
Francis Bacon. Francis Bacon is a man of great importance back in the 16th and 17th century. He
was famous for his authorship much like Shakespeare. Fortunately, no one thought of him to be the
type to spend his time writinguseless poetry. He was more well known for his writing screenplays.
Edmondson and Wells (2013) explain, While Bacon may have penned court entertainments, he
was never suspected of wasting time in writing poetry, and is not known to have written a single
blank verse in all his life. (p. 21) With that statement alone, the Bacon theory should be
dismissed. If no one knew of him writing poetry, then there is no way he could have whipped out
154 sonnets when he was already famous. If this does not prove anything, we can examine both
Shakespeare s and Bacon s styles of writing. Bacon did not write about nature and animals. In fact,
he did not like to write about those things. In contrast, Shakespeare s favorite thing to write about
was nature and animals. Bacon was Shakespeare s opposite, in a sense.

New Orleans Museum of Art Sculptures The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, part of
the New Orleans Museum of Art, contains several dozen 20th century and 21st century sculptures
from across the globe. The five acre garden mostly features figures from American and European
artists, most of them being created within the past 70 years. Surrounded by the beautiful landscape
of City Park, many impressive works are presented at the sculpture garden. However, two particular
works that stood out to me were the Venus Victorius and Untitled.
The first piece I chose was Venus Victorius, a bronze sculpture made by Pierre Auguste Renoir in

A bronze sculpture consisting of just six rectangular shapes and a semi rectangular base, this
piece is very simple, and its minimalistic structure is similar to that of Malevich s Supremacist
Composition: Airplane Flying. From a certain angle, the sculpture resembles a figure stumbling
and falling over the base, depicting some sort of motion. In this sense, it is similar to Boccioni s
Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, which sought to use air currents to symbolize a moving
figure. The simplistic yet abstract nature of Shapiro s work makes it feel right as home in the
Modernist Revolution, despite the fact that Shapiro s sculpture was made in 1991, more than 70
years after the Modernist Revolution occurred. In addition, Untitled is unlike any other figure
sculpture we have studied thus far. Just about every major sculpture we have covered resembles
some form of a human like body, whether they be an actual human or a divine figure. Even
Unique Forms of Continuity in Space possesses what appear to be legs, a head and a torso. The
odd and minimalistic composition of Untitled means that is possesses no definite form resembling a
human and could very well be meant to resemble something completely unrelated to human, quite
possibly an inanimate object or even something that was not meant to be resembled. It is the only
work of its kind present at the sculpture garden, and as such, it carries far more mystery than any
other work

Multiple Concussions Research Paper
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The injury
may damage the brain cells and create chemical changes in the brain (CDC). They are usually not
life threatening, but the effects can be serious (CDC), especially if a person receives multiple
concussions. Something that makes a concussiondangerous or life threatening is that the person
may not even know that they have one or they may just shake it off and not pay attention to it. It is
very common in athletes, but also appears in other people who receive an impact to the brain.
The brain is a fragile organ. It is cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid that acts as a shock absorber for
minor impacts (Sports Concussion Institute). A concussion is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to
the head. These types of impacts are usually received during a sport, car accident, fall, etc.
Cerebrospinal fluid is not enough to protect the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

communication, meaning the way they talk or process what others are saying (Mental Health

or even the death of neurons. Neurodegeneration could lead to a person suffering from a disease
like dementia. This is why a person who has suffered from a concussion must fully recover,

In order to begin understanding Syria is important to take time to know the early history. For the
Syrians history represents the events that leaded to their identity, as they know it and the rest of

The Most Convincing Approach Of Japan And China
Tyler Olsen
Dr. Kishida
HIST 110 02

The Most Convincing Approach For many years Western nations in Europe and North America had
wanted to expand their trade with Japan and China; however, the people of the two Asian countries
believed that the Westerners were barbarians with useless goods and religious beliefs that would
challenge their traditions. Up until the 1800s, Japan and China had successfully restricted the
influence of Western nations within their countries. Their ability to remain isolated from
Westerners, however, quickly faded throughout the 1800s when the modernized Western nations
grew more powerful and demanding. Due to trying to stay isolated from Western ideas and
religious beliefs, Japan and China fell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feng Guifen s first good idea in his plan was to learn how to build better ships and guns from the
Westerners, or barbarians as he liked to call them. He realized that China was turning into a weak
country from being isolated from Western ideas. In the beginning of his article, Feng said that the
Chinese were inferior to the barbarians (Feng 357). By this time, China had already been
humiliatingly defeated by the British in the Opium War, which showed that China lacked a strong
military and advanced technology ( Plotting East Asia s Future 352). To remedy this, he proposed
hiring Westerners to teach intelligent Chinese how to build strong ships and effective guns (Feng
357). Without having the military force or advanced weaponry and ships, China would be crushed
again and again like it was in the Opium War and the later Sino Japanese War, which is known as
another humiliating Chinese defeat (Tignor 659). To have a powerful nation at that time, a strong
military with weapons was needed. Feng knew that in order to gain the needed military strength, the
Chinese were going to have to learn from Westerners on how to build better ships and guns.
Two other authors also proposed reforming the military. For example, Ii Naosuke, one of the
Japanese writers, had the similar idea of learning from foreigners. In his case, he wanted to employ
Dutchmen as masters and mariners and put Japanese on board to study their guns, ships, and how
they navigate

Lupus Erythematosus
Section One: Modes of Inheritance
There are five different types of lupus: systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus,
subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, drug induced lupus, neonatal lupus. Systemic lupus
erythematosus, or SLE, is the most common form of lupus. The exact cause of SLE is unknown;
however, recent research has pointed to genetics as its main factor that is mostly triggered by
environmental factors. While the exact gene that causes lupus is unknown, research has suggested
that multiple genes factor into the development of SLE (What is Lupus? 2009). Two genes have

Lupus can either be mild, or it can be lethal. Unfortunately, SLE is not contained to one part of
the body, but rather can affect any part of the body (Lockshin, 2007). In order to help with the
diagnosis of lupus, the American College of Rheumatology developed the Eleven Criteria of
Lupus which contains the typical symptoms of SLE and is used by doctors to diagnose patients.
Diagnosis, of course, is not limited to the eleven criteria. The first symptom is called the malar

Second, are discoid patches, third is photosensitivity a reaction to sunlight that results in skin

The provisional government was deposed in early October by the Bolsheviks as a result of the
October Revolution. The storming and capitulation of the Winter Palace on the night of the 7th to

Lenin ordered that any German conditions should be accepted but he had great difficulty in
convincing his colleagues such as Trotsky that this was the way forward. He realized that the
Bolsheviks needed to get a quick treaty from the Germans to bring about the end of the war so that
the Bolsheviks could concentrate on the work they needed to do in Russia. Eventually peace was
signed in March 1918 in the form of the Treaty of Brest Litovsk. Under the treaty, Russia lost
Riga, Lithuania, Livonia, Estonia and some of White Russia. Russia ended up losing 62 million
people, 27% of farm land, 26% of railway lines and 74% of iron and coal reserves. Some
historians argue that the signing of the Treaty of Brest Litovsk was one of Lenin s major failures
in his policies. Lenin s practical and realistic approach enabled him to strengthen the Bolshevik
party even more.
After the winning the Civil War against the Whites, the Russia economy was left in ruins. The
Bolshevik Party faced many problems; the Kronstadt rising, political opposition and economic crisis
this meant that Lenin had to remove War Communismto avoid disaster. Lenin thought that the
collapse of Russian economy was mainly due to the introduction of War Communism during the
Civil War. The majority of resources were allocated to the civil war fronts. In Russia, land was
seized and redistributed to be worked using limited resources and equipment. Any surplus in
production was seized by the

Resistance Body Exercise
It is considered common knowledge that physical activity is the key to a healthy life, both
physically and mentally. When someone is trying to get in shape or stay in shape they generally
start doing two things, eating healthier and exercising. When they are not feeling the best mentally,
they can exercise to release endorphins, improving mood. But what does exercising actually do for
your body and what is resistance training? More specifically what impact does resistance training
have on your overall health, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and mental health. According to

Imperialism helped the Belgians discriminate, segregate, brutally torture, and even kill the

Belgians inflicted brutal control over the people, then after that they started killing them in
inhumane ways. The Congolese also lost most of their own culture, but when the Belgians

Divinity Of Love Essay
Once a week, the fan runs away from home and attends the stadium. Flags flicker, rattles sound,
rockets, drums, rain snakes and paper cut; the city disappears, the routine is forgotten, there is
only one existing location, the temple. In this sacred space, the only religion that does not have
atheists exhibits its divinities. Although the fan can contemplate the miracle, more comfortably,
on the TV screen, he prefers to undertake the pilgrimage to this place where he can see his angels
in flesh and blood, fighting a duel against the demons of the day and explains, How will you know

shakes the handkerchief, swallows, gulp , swallows poison, eats the cap, whispers prayers and
curses and suddenly breaks his throat in an ovation and jumps like a flea, hugging the stranger
who shouts the goal at his side. While the pagan mass lasts, the fans are many. With thousands of

What Is The Significance Of Friday Night Lights
H.G. Bissinger makes it clear that while Odessa is a unique place, the ideas he presents can be
true almost anywhere: Odessa is the setting for this book, but it could be anyplace in this vast
land where, on a Friday night, a set of spindly stadium lights rises to the heavens to so
powerfully, and so briefly, ignite the darkness (XIV). Friday Night Lights, a book by H.G.
Bissinger, is set in Odessa, a small town located in Texas, where football is revered by the entire
town. Bissinger talks about the enormous effect of sports on American life and how it creates a
sense of false hope (XII). Lewis H. Lapham, a famous American writer, commented on the purpose

Sports are a large part of America s culture as well as Odessa s. In Friday Night Lights, the
players spend their entire lives training to be successful because sports are all they have to look
forward to. During the final game of the season to make it to state, Ronnie Beavers told his
team, This is the last minute of your life (326). Beavers quote shows the importance of the
moment. If Permian does not win the game, they have nothing to look forward to in their future.
This semi final game is much more than a game for Permian. What Beaver is saying is
ridiculous, the Permian players act like Football will determine their future. By following the
players and the town, Bissinger is able to show readers how important sports are in Odessa.
Bissinger notes how it was obvious that the students of Permian hold the town on their
shoulders (XIV). By following the story of the American small town, including many personal
anecdotes, Bissinger shows the effect that sports have in Odessa. Friday Night Lights supports
Lapham s claim that games represent much more than a game. It is not merely a game but a
way of life. Permian players eat, breathe, and live football. Their lives are centralized around one
thing: Football. Bissinger describes the town when he states, If you went to their homes, you
might find black toilet seats, or black seat cushions, or black phone book covers, or black paper
plates, or black clocks, or black felt on their pool tables (39). Bissinger throughout the book
displays how the town revolves around sports. Everything that Odessa does is centered around the
football team. The players train everyday to work to improving their record and that is all that

The goal of therapy is to replace a client s problem saturated narrative through the construction of a
new preferred story (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Furthermore, preferred stories are developed by finding
and discussing positive moments and exceptions (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Narrative therapy can be
distinguished as either Collaborative Language Systems (CLS), otherwise known as conversational
elaboration, or as narrative deconstruction (Buckman et al., 2008). Conversational elaboration is
creating space and opportunity for a client to move from a stuck monologue to a dialogue with new
themes and narratives by inviting clients to consider different perspectives (Buckman et al., 2008).
Alternatively, narrative deconstruction emphasizes the client s power in therapy. It encourages
clients to externalize themselves from the problem and then deconstruct the exceptions that exist to
their narratives (Buckman et al., 2008). While this approach encourages elaboration or
deconstruction, solution focused therapy directs the conversation in a different way while using

The Relation of Evil and Love in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
This study will examine Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, focusing on how evil is related to
love. The study will explore the main relationship in the book, the relationship between Heathcliff
and Catherine. That relationship is full of both love and evil and will show us what happens when
evil and love become tied to one another. The first thing we need to do is define evil. It is perhaps
impossible to define love in a way, which will satisfy all of us. We will probably all agree that
love is usually an attraction between two people, which makes them feel good about themselves
and the other person and about life in general. On the other hand, the love that ... Show more content

That is what Bronte s novel shows us and reminds us about this kind of powerful, romantic love.
It does not get out of control in the case of these two lovers, and becomes evil. Heathcliff is
shown to be a dark and even hateful character the moment we meet him on the first two pages of
the book. Lockwood sees himself as a kind of kin to Heathcliff, and sees the region as a fit for heir
dark personalities. A perfect misanthropist s Heaven and Mr. Heathcliff and I are such a suitable
pair to divide the desolation between us. A capital fellow! He little imagined how my heart warmed
towards him when I beheld his black eyes withdraw so suspiciously under their brows (45).
Lockwood has no idea how much more dark and evil Heathcliff is. Heathcliff is shown to be an evil
man even before he meets Catherine, so we cannot say that he learned to be evil because of his
extreme love for Catherine. We see Heathcliff not as a loving person, not as a lover, but as a hater,
a misanthrope, or a person who hates people. This might be a clue helping us to understand the evil
part of Heathcliff s love. Perhaps a love for one person, which grows out of a hatred of all other
people, will end up being evil, sooner or later. Perhaps true love leads a person to feel warm and
loving toward all people, or most people. And perhaps a love, which is evil, is one, which comes

Mosquitoes In Ww1
Over seventy years ago the world was tossed into a war that touched every corner of the globe.
The war would take the lives of over sixty million people from it s start in 1939 to it s end in
1945. Over those six years each side would develop new technologies to kill and destroy the
enemy. However, the Allies biggest advantage would be their advancements in medicine that
allowed more men to return to the front. The main instrument of war has always been the
weapons used in it, and in the case of world war two both the Allies and the Axis were armed to
the teeth with firearms of all types. However, at the beginning of the war the weapons used were
weapons from a bygone era particularly from the previous war, world war one. For example on
the side of the Allies, the standard issue rifle for Americans was the M1903 Springfield rifle

Southwest is reducing flights to try and be more efficient on their fuel consumption. Another
issue is the increase in ticket prices. Southwest Airlines has announced that they will be raising
their ticket prices to offset the high cost of jet fuel. In March of 2012 Southwest raised fares by
between $4 and $10 per round trip, depending on the distance (The Associated Press, 2012). In
today s economy, this may decrease the demand for flying and people may look for more
affordable ways to travel or not travel at all. When looking at the elasticity of demand Southwest is
extremely impacted by the elasticity of demand. Items such as externalities, unemployment,
inflation, and monetary, fiscal, and federal policies affect the elasticity of demand. The elasticity of
demand is based solely on current market conditions, the customer s purpose for travel, and
available substitutes. The airline industry is viewed has being unstable because it is based on
current market conditions, and the market is always changing. If Southwest decided that they
needed to increase their revenue they would have to start by raising the prices of their tickets. The
need for increased revenue would need to be passed on to the consumers . When a ticket price is

Nasa s The Space Of Space
After NASA s moon landing among other achievements during the Space Race, many Americans
yearned to explore the depths of the unknown Universe. From quasars to brown dwarf stars, there
are many wonders that the universe holds for the human race if we decide to leap into the
exploration of the universe. Some may believe that reaching for the stars is too costly. However,
the exploration of space is within our grasp, and by increasing NASAs funding, we are able to
reach them. So yes, we should fund our space administration in order for us to reach the stars.
Firstly, without sufficient funding, NASA would be politically reliant on Russia due to NASA
s need to launch its commercial crew using Russian spaceships on Russian land. According to
The Guardian, NASA s budget has dropped from 4.41 percent of the federal budget in 1966, to
today s budget of 0.5 percent of the federal budget. As a result of continued decrease in funds,
NASA has been severely crippled in its ability to operate; this is why NASA s budget needs to
be increased. Without funds nor vehicles to transport its astronauts, NASA must rely on its
Russian counterpart in order to fly Americans into space. Due to a rocky relationship with Russia
that stems from the Cold War, it is not viable for us to depend our entire space commercial crew
program with Russia. Depending on Russia also causes NASA as well as the United States to look
weak in front of the national community. Such weakness may cause our political

Separating From Great Britain Dbq Essay
Under the tyranny of Great Britain the colonist faced many hardships placed onto them by the
parliament. Unconstitutional taxes were implemented for no reason other than to increase Britain s

Great Britain by declaring independence. The American colonists were justified for separating from

role in why Palmer has such a difficult time dealing with Lily. On a number of occasions through
the correspondence, Lily attempts to treat Palmer as though the two of them are close, intimate
friends. Lily even goes as far as saying to Palmer, I hope you stay for years, with me (Marks

leave me alone in this merciless world (Marks 113). When faced with these remarks, she needed
to address Lily s outlook on their relationship to make sure Lily understood that their interaction
had to remain professional. You say that one of your reasons for wishing to be in Durban is that

Scaffold Of Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne

Mrs. Macacci
Literary critic essay
December 1, 2015
Scaffold s Role in Scarlet Letter
The scaffold, in Puritan times, was where criminals were shamed, ridiculed, and executed by the
community. When they were released from jail, the first place that they went was to the scaffold, to
be shown to the community. In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scaffold was not
only a place of shame, but it was where character s social status rose and fell throughout the book.
Hester Prynne s world came crashing down atop the scaffold. After spending time in jail for being
pregnant outside of wedlock, she had to face her community, wearing a big scarlet letter across
her bosom. The scarlet letter was the community s punishment for her sin and was their way of
trying to get her to repent. The community forced her to wear the scarlet letter at all times and
she was constantly shunned and abused for it. She wrestled with the decision to leave, and one
time even considered killing Pearl and committing suicide. Also, she sees her husband for the
first time in a long time on top of the scaffold. At the first scaffold scene, it says, Be that as it
might, the scaffold of the pillory was a point of view that revealed to Hester Prynne the entire track
along which she had been treading, since her happy infancy. Standing on that miserable eminence,
she saw again her native village (Hawthorne 88). This not only shows Hester as miserable, but it is

faced with difficult situations, but are able to overcome them with humorous remarks and stories.
Draco Malfoy and Judas Iscariot are succumbed in evilness and continue to do wrong, until the end.

Southern California Gas Leak Case Study
The Southern California natural gas leak was the biggest of its kind in U.S. history. This natural
gas leak was pumping out enough methane to fill a balloon the size of the Rose Bowl every day
until utility workers discovered it and charily patched it up with cement. According to the first study
of the accident published in the journal Science, more than 100,000 tons of methane which is a
powerful greenhouse gasthat has 25 times the warming energy of carbon dioxidehad been releasing
itself into the world from a natural gaswell in Aliso Canyon for 112 days without anyone even
knowing. This gas leak accident was unnoticed for so long that its effects on Earth were and will

Key Characteristics Of Organizational Development In The...
Organization development is a system wide method of organized change directed towards refining
overall organization efficiency by way of augmented similarity of such key organizational factors as
external environment, mission, tactic, governance, customs, organization, information and
incentive practices, and work strategies and techniques. Organization development is about aiding
individuals and organizations change successfully. Experts in a variation of positions can apply
organizational development in various settings, and in any type of organization. While emerging as
a discipline in the 1960 s, Richard Beckhard defined organizational development key characteristics
as planned, organization wide and managed from the top. These three key characteristics are
important because they boost organizational effectiveness and well being through mediations in the
organization s developments, by applying behavioral science knowledge. However, innovators of
organizational development in the 1960s were still mostly pre occupied with interferences at either
an individual or group level, primarily to enable incremental alterations, relatively than the whole
system, large scale intercessions which describe the calculated change labors and ingenuities that
are applied today. Organizational development came about due to the initiatives of key workers in
the 1960s, through the expansion of T groups and the knowledge increased from those
organizations, from Lewin s work on revolution

Patrick Come To Me Analysis
This is one of the biggest themes in this novel. Because there are so many immigrants to Canada
during the time of the novel (1913 1940), North America is still without language, gestures and
work and bloodlines are the only currency. The novel explores different forms of language besides
words. Patrick comes to live in a Macedonian immigrant community in Toronto; even though he is a
native Canadian, he is isolated by language in his own country. But he learns to relate to those
around him, and at a moment when he is in the Teck Cinema watching a silent film and laughing
out loud, he looks up and catches the eye of someone else laughing, and they have the same
realization that this mutual laughter is conversation. And before this, when

Hinduism On Yoga
In Hinduism, yoga is a practiced art form to connect with oneself spiritually. Yoga means union,
which means a union with oneself spiritually, through activity. Yoga was practiced by monks and
spiritual leaders in India to become and or reach enlightenment. Yoga not only can help students
become more spiritually enlightened, yogacan help students reach a level of intentionality,
presence, and connection with oneself and the world. However, in today s society where everyone
is looking to have the most materially and to be the most attractive, yoga has been watered down by
most people; consequently, becoming a form of physical activity to be the best looking, without the
thoughtfulness of the spirit. In western society, everyone is fighting to be the best and to look the
best; people push themselves further and further away from their spiritual being and closer and
closer to having to have the most money, have the biggest house, and have the most materially. We
push ourselves further and further from reaching our most valuable self, complete presence.... Show

consistent yoga practice pushes me farther and farther out and away from depression. It brings me
closer to becoming more intentional with everything I do in life. Yoga helps me to become more

Young Woman By Ella Thomas Essay
Another young woman, Ella Thomas, described her pregnancy in a manner that further complicates
interpreting historical pregnancy. While having a miscarriage, Ella describes herself as sick but
does not appear to be bothered by the event. Despite experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, Ella
does not describe her pregnancywithin these terms. If anything, she finds her symptoms a nuisance
(Thomas). Furthermore, her own pregnancy has led her to sympathize with other pregnant women.
She mentions in the diary that if she had sole management of a plantation that pregnant women
would be highly favored...whether black of white (Thomas). The distinction of sole management
here is fascinating because it implies that her husband would not be in charge in this case, and that
if he were in charge he would be less likely to show favor to pregnant women because he personally
could not understand the experience (Thomas).
Eventually, Ella becomes worried for her health when more serious symptoms begin to manifest.
Her symptoms are so severe that she they frighten [her] with fears of sickness and cause her to
call for her doctor. She notes however, that her physician Dr. Edward Eve does nothing to help her
or to alleviate her symptoms. Days later, her pregnancy miscarries, which she colloquially refers to
as an abortion (Thomas). Despite the bodily trauma, Ella s diary entries continues in good spirits.
The actual miscarriage, she notes, did not scare her, it only

the work because he was born a hard worker. One day while the boys were at a job, cleaning a
pool, for a man named Mr. Clemon, Jose` learned a life lesson. Mr. Clemon falls into the pool
and hits his head, knocking him out. Jose` quickly goes to help him but Arnie doesn t want to

Aileen Wuornos Essay
Aileen Carol Wuornos: The Life of a Serial Killer I robbed them, and I killed them as cold as ice,
and I would do it again, and I know I would kill another person because I ve hated humans for a
long time. (Wuornos, 1999 2010) These words came from Aileen Wuornos after she was arrested
for the murders of seven men during the course of a year. She faced numerous adversities from
early childhood through adulthood. She displayed many psychological warning signs, but none was
attended too regardless of her outcries. The course of this paper will outline her upbringing, lifestyle
choice, psychological warning signs, psychological disorders, course of treatment that could have

They found themselves on the street again and Aileen began earning a living by prostituting
herself for money. Overall, her lifestyle only escalated as she hitchhiked in Michigan where she
grew up and participated in drinking, drugs, partying and prostitution. She decided that she
would leave and hitchhike her way on up to Colorado where she continued the same lifestyle. In
the midst of the horrible, unethical lifestyle, she was informed that her grandfather had
committed suicide in his garage. I can only speculate that she felt alone in the world and needed
to fill that void. So as she was Hitchhiking across America, Wuornos arrived in Florida and was
presented with a potentially life changing piece of luck: she met wealthy yacht club president,
69 year old Lewis Fell, who fell in love with her, and they were married in 1976. Wuornos soon
reverted to type, however, and began fighting in bars, and was sent to jail for assault as a result.
Fell was horrified; a brawling bride had no place in his high society lifestyle, and he had the
marriage annulled after a few months. (Aileen Wuornos, 2008) Additionally, Aileen also received
word that her brother Keith had passed due to throat cancer. She was not only devastated, but also
alone in the world since he was the only loyal person by her side. As she had done in the past, she
resorted back to her heavy drinking and life of prostitution. Aileen received ten thousand dollars
from her bothers

The Issue of Accounting Entity Definition in Regards to...
The UK public sector has been transformed over the past few decades. In an increasingly global
economy, the main lever by which central governments can influence the success of the domestic
economy is by ensuring its public sector operates efficiently. The central governments of the
developed economies have adopted similar change agendas to transform their public sectors. These
change agendas entail the introduction of new structures, new kinds of organizations and a
reinvention of many parts of the public sector. The intention of successive governments has been
the creation of a New Public Sector , which is more strategic and corporate in its thinking. This
New Public Sector is intended to replace a public sector characterized by... Show more content on

Despite of that definition, the creation of an accounting entity is also a political process with
potentially huge implications. Kurunmäki states that the boundaries which describe an
organization as an economic unit separate from other units are not as clear cut, natural or fixed as
the accounting entity assumption implies . To which extent does NOMS now fulfill the above
described requirements? What are the issues involved in the representation of NOMS as an
accounting entity? By defining NOMS as an accounting entity, the financial controls involved seek
to limit accountability to the very institution which is fair to say and in line with the so called
market based New Public Sector reforms (Arnold, 1991). As a consequence, NOMS has to face the
challenge to act within a managerial, instead of an administrative culture. When looking for
example at healthcare reforms throughout Western Europe during the late 1970s and 1980, we find
out that before introducing those reforms and seeing hospitals as accounting entities, several
problems occurred: Poor management followed by arm s length management, with organizational
actions guided by practices rooted in a rationality that privileged professional or clan over
bureaucratic or managerial forms of control (Kurunmäki, 1999). These associated problems could

Analysis Of The Book Carrol
Carrol, is the casserole done yet? I m starving. I haven t eaten since 5:30. It s 5:45 now, said Carrol.
She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky.
Exactly, said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, I still haven t filled up my second stomach yet,
earning a grin from gray haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
Carrol smiled and replied, We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I m so excited. We haven t seen her in
so long.
She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and
slowly made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the
small chatter of Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard
Ben invite her into the kitchen in his deep gruff voice.
There stood rosy cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and
trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses.
He carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud green coat.
Mom, it s so great to see you! exclaimed Alice.
Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this? Carrol said, looking back at the boy.
Oh, said Alice in her cheerful voice, This is Ethan.
He held out a gloved hand, and introduced himself, Pleasure to meet you, he said through a
congested, nasally voice. Carrol shook his hand as Ethan sniffed the kitchen air. What is that I
smell? he said.

Into Thin Air Analysis
Imagine yourself, a lover for mountaineering, desired to attain the top of Mt. Everest, but suddenly
the government puts this sport as illegal. How would you react? Well, a majority of people say
that mountaineering should be forbidden because of an incident that happened in 2014 where a
huge wedge of ice fell off and killed 16 Nepalese out of the 25 that were there. I understand that
many of the people that explore till the top of the mountain know the risks and are able to
understand them and for that, I believe that mountaineeringshould not be illegal. Therefore, I am
going to explain reasons why it should not be prohibited.
While mountain climbing is a dangerous sport, the chances of death have been reduced
significantly. Jon Krakauer, author of Into Thin Air, has determined the ratio of deaths caused
because of mountaineering has now dropped from 1 death for every 4 attempts to 1:60 (Source
one). It is seen that because of the development of items over the years, many of the symptoms that
climbers usually experience include: high altitude cerebral edema and high altitude pulmonary
edema, have been prevented with the use of special steroids. Also, bottled oxygen has been seen on

Everest and has supposedly risked his company s reputation. Two years after, 16 out of the 25
Nepalese guides were killed from the exact wedge of ice which led to the question if
mountaineering should be banned (Source two). There were many ways that this incident could
ve been avoided. If Brice and his group escaped out safely, then why didn t they tell anyone about
the enormous wedge of ice that averted them from going any further? If there was a flag that said
HAZARD ABOVE, then it would have been evaded easily. In my opinion, I believe that in this
situation, Brice should be the one to be

Frankenmuth s Role In Ethiopia
Frederick Wyneken was a German missionary who was working in Michigan and Ohio who first

money to start such an idea. Therefore, in 1840 he wrote a letter to all the Lutherans in Germanyfor

His Letter caught the attention of the Wilhelm Loehe, who is a pastor of several towns in
Germany, and because of his strong beliefs and convictions in the church doctrines, He organized a

The Count Of Monte Cristo Summary
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas was completed in 1844, and is one of his most
well known works, along with The Three Musketeers. Originally published in the Journal des
DГ©bats in a serial of eighteen parts, the novel appeared in book form in Paris by PГ©tion in 18
volumes with the first two issued in 1844 and the remaining sixteen in 1845. The story takes
place in France, Italy, and islands in the Mediterranean Sea in 1815 1839. This means that the
story occurs during the era of the Bourbon Restoration, and begins just before the Hundred Days
period. The story follows Edmond DantГЁs through the changes in personality in an attempt to
seek revenge on those who ruined his almost perfect life. Dumas seeks to show the results of
jealousy and revenge, love and happiness in this literary classic. The story opens in Marseilles
with a crowd watching the ship Pharaon come into port. Among the crowd is the owner of the
ship, Monsieur Morrel, who is informed that the captain of the ship passed away at sea. The ship
s first mate, and the protagonist, DantГЁs assures Morrel that the ship ran smoothly after the loss
of the captain. The ship s supercargo Danglars, jealous of DantГЁs abilities and praise, tries to
tarnish the laudation by informing Morrel that DantГЁs made a stop at Elba. DantГЁs replies it
was under the wishes of the captain, to which Morrel congratulates him for following the man s
dying wishes. Morrel declares that after speaking to his partner, DantГЁs

This is only two battles in the whole Civil War yet countless lives were lost in each one. These
battles were only two months apart. The goal of this paper is to give information on these two Civil
War battles Chancelorsville and Gettysburg.
The Battle of Chancelorsville In the Battle of Chancelorsville, Hooker was the Union general
and Lee was the Confederate general. Hooker had 130,000 men and Lee had 60,000 men.
Hooker had more men and supplies and Lee was outnumbered. Before the battle Hooker said,
May God have mercy on General Lee, for I will have none. In the morning of May 1, 1863,
Hooker was condensing his forces waiting for Lee to attack. That afternoon fighting started, with

Chancelorsville. Lee went after Sedgwick.
On May 4, 1863 Lee and Sedgwick met at the Battle of the Salem Church. The battle was
indecisive. That night both Hooker and Sedgwick retreated over the Rappahannock. The Union
lost 16,800 men and the Confederates lost 13,000 men. It is considered one of Lee s finest battles.
Jackson s arm had to be amputated from the injury he got. Gangrene set in and he died on May 10,
1863. Even though the Confederates had won the battle of Chancelorsville it was at high costs.
The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg happened after Lee won Chancelorsville. Lee
went to Pennsylvania hoping to capture a northern city and re supply his men. Lee also hoped to
draw the Union men from the Mississippi River. On July 1, 1863 Lee sent Confederate General
Harry Heth to Gettysburg to get shoes for his troops. Union General John Buford s force was dug in
at Seminary Ridge in Gettysburg. Heth came in contact with Buford s scouts. The Confederates
went up an unfinished railroad and arrived outside of town at 8:00A.M. The Confederates line
was at Cemetery Ridge. After two hours of fighting Reynold s Union force arrived on the scene.

The State University Of New York
Introduction
The State University of New York (2014) provides and clear and accurate description of
globalization:
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and
governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided
by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political
systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well being in societies
around the world (The State University of New York, 2014, para 1). Global economicsaffects the
decisions of firms, governments, and individuals in the United State in many different ways. The
World Trade Organizationmanages the rules and trade between nations and has a significant impact
on intellectual property rights. Intellectual property rights refer creations of the mind, such as
inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce
(World Intellectual Property Organization, 2014). The purpose of this paper is to compare and
contrast free trade and protectionist theories, analyze how the global environment functions on a
micro and macro level within the context of the World Trade Organization, analyze the two level
game theory and how organizations make financial decisions in a globalized environment, and
determine which parties benefit from either increasing or decreasing trade restriction.

Doak S. Campbell Stadium Analysis
Florida State University exemplifies great pride in school spirit, encouraged through infamous
prominent tradition. Doak S. Campbell Stadium exists as a location on campus where this prideful
spirit is in full effect and embraced by students, alumni, and any other visitors. Right in the heart of
this scene, in front of the footballstadium, stands the Unconquered statue. The massive monument,
standing a few stories above the heads of those passing by, welcomes spectators into the stadium
as it sets the glorified mood that takes place during Florida State home football games, especially
when the spear is lit in flames lighting the way to the gates. Even though the statue itself has not

  • 2. The Despairing Act of Self Harm Essay Have you ever, coincidentally, walked passed somebody with deep, open cuts on his/her wrist and wondered what happened? Maybe, you thought it was a simple, harmless scratch caused by obnoxious pets at home. Or maybe, you considered it as mild accidents, preferably caused by doing arts and crafts at home or school. But, have you ever pondered thoroughly and have the idea that those sad scarring were actually made by him/herself? Creating scars on your skin is actually the action of self harm; the intentional hurting of one s self, direct to the body tissue, with or without the intention of suicide. There are several types of self harm, such as hair pulling, banging body parts, scratching, burning, ingestion of toxin, and the most frequent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though, there are several motives of self harm, a person who self harms by any means seeks the same personal effects: a sense of relief, a diversion from hurtful emotion by expressing it externally, or to simply sense something when feeling numb and empty. Adolescents and teenagers expects self harm as an escape, as a way out of struggles. However, self harm bears great consequences to those who practice it. As a matter of fact, it has never been a solution to complications. The truth is, self harm only gives temporary satisfaction, and provokes to further misery and discomfort. Self harm brings several damages; it affects both one s mind and physical features. Damages of self harm involves: Permanent, painful scars Inability to bring an end to it or addiction Feeling useless Self hatred or low self esteem Permanent numbness in hand or wrist Broken bones and bruises Stress to hide the self injury from others Anxiety that someone will discover it Secluded from society Although there are a number of after effects, the worst that could happen to one s life is death. When a person became too dependent on self harm, he/she could have the desire to take his/her own life. • 3. Difference Between Classical Conditioning And Operant... According to Woolfolk (2005), learning is a process which causes permanent changes in knowledge and behavior through experience. Learning is a key for every child to understand what is going on around them and how should they react to that stimuli. It involves the use of cognitive skills to interpret those signals and analyse them accordingly. Defecation or lesion in cognitive sites may cause mental retardation or learning problems to them, thus, their mental maturity may be lag behind their current age. The consequence is, they maybe little bit clumsy to understand certain orders or command given by his or her parents. Conditioning is a primary step for every child to learn. Morris and Maisto (2005) stated that, the well defined stimuli which may cause the acquisition of specific pattern of behavior is what conditioning means. It is composed of two types, Classical Conditioning and Operant Conditioning. Classical Conditioning which is first inspired by Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849 1936) is a learning... • 4. Reuben Log In Alia Wong s Digitals Natives, Yet Strangers to the Web, Wong discusses the motives behind Reuben Loewy s Living Online Lab as technology is misshapen into education and immobilizing students from thinking critically. In other words, technology is creeping itself into a student s learning environment causing a mayhem as educators incorrectly incorporate them alongside given curriculums and set expectations that students are technology born prodigies. Technology has digitized the traditional setting of a classroom with its enticement of quick access and efficiency. As alluring as it is to Reuben Loewy that we follow along with the times, others believe otherwise, because they believe it puts the students at risk of not only their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept is Loewy s interdisciplinary curriculum for the digital age, and from this, education should change for the better. By highlighting important aspects of the program, Wong shows opposers and concerned parents the solutions to their worries. Danger on the internet will always be present, and it s all a matter of understanding of how to interact with the internet. If students don t know how to properly interact on the internet, of course, parents are going to have their concerns. This leads to the fearmongering and massive information campaigns over avoiding such issues, which wouldn t be an issue if covered in school more in depth. In addition, according to Wong, Loewy s concept is not the first either, University of Pennsylvania English Professor Kenneth Goldsmith launched a course [in 2015] called Wasting Time on the Internet, where it teaches students how to use technology appropriately, and use it to their advantage of gaining knowledge, rather than wilting it away with societal norms. Therefore, digital citizenship becomes vital if technology is to be a part of education, which Wong thrives in informing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Discussing the Elephant in the Room The topic of Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway continues to be a hot button issue, even 90 years after the story s publication. Though not as scandalous as it must have been in 1927, it remains the subject of great debate. Two lovers are awaiting a train that will whisk them away to Madrid for the purpose of an abortion. Even though the decision was made before arriving at the station, they continue to debate whether she will go through with it. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion and is concerned that she will change her mind, however she is more concerned with the fate of her relationship with the man and the effects an abortion may have on her. The first indication of a division between the lovers is the description of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (2 3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the division between them. Upon arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several alcoholic drinks during their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and calm the anxiety. Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their view of the hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve never seen one, (10). Here is where the proverbial can of worms is opened. The woman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Long term control drugs for asthma are used to prevent symptoms in people with moderate to severe asthma. You must take them every day for them to work. Take them even when you feel okay. Inhaled steroids prevent symptoms by preventing airway swelling. These work very well and are almost always the first choice. Long acting beta agonist inhalers also help prevent asthma symptoms. These drugs should be used together with an inhaled steroid drug. It may be easier to use an inhaler that contains both drugs. He felt this was an environment where individuals could lose their identity and be merged with the crowd. Whatever everyone else was feeling, that s what the individual would feel too. This robbed people of their individual freedom. Assembled in a crowd, people lose their powers of reasoning and their capacity for moral choice. Hitler, as they called him, was an orator. The orator speaks to masses of individuals. They are at his mercy and, if he knows his business, he can do what he likes with them. And Hitler definitely knew his business. He was able, in his own words, to follow the lead of the great mass in such a way that from the living emotion of his hearers the apt word which he needed would be suggested to him and in its turn this would go straight to the heart of his hearers. He knew that if he tugged at the people s heartstrings, they would listen to him and worship him. Which is exactly what he wanted. Hitler was also a loud speaker, proclaiming the most secret desires, the least admissible instincts, the sufferings and most personal revolts of a whole nation. He started doing all of this to the German masses. Hitler was exploring and exploiting the secret fears and hopes, the cravings, anxieties and frustrations of the German masses. • 11. Descriptive Essay About A Marching Band Reset! I became overly acquainted with that word my freshman year of high school marching band. It seemed to be the only word our director, Mr. Miller, would say to us, demanding the band to return to their original positions and march the same several phrases tirelessly. To us, reset became synonymous with torture. Little did I know, that repugnant little word was meant to prepare me for one spectacular night. A night that gave family a whole new meaning. The night of October fourth, on a crisp, autumnal Saturday, the Washington High School marching band and color guard prepares for their biggest competition of the season. It is late, well past ten. The moon is high, and the inky sky is peppered with brilliant, luminous stars. The millions of tiny spotlights cast their ominous glow upon the color guard. Each of us is dressed impeccably in a cropped denim jacket, white tank top and black spandex pants. Our hair is gelled back in slick buns, our facial features exaggerated with heavy makeup and our lips carefully accented with ruby red lipstick as the centerpiece of our costumes. Julie, our beloved instructor, shouts at us to rehearse our choreography once more, even though we know it like the back of our hands. The chilly October wind sweeps wiry strands of scorching red hair in front of Julie s face, obscuring her motherly features like a mask. Her ruddy, freckled face is stern, but her eyes are soft with adoration as she looks upon her color guard. As we commence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Journey Through Suburban Life in John Cheever s The Swimmer The Swimmer, by John Cheever, illustrates one man s journey from a typical suburban life to loneliness and isolation. This short story is characteristic of John Cheever s typical characterizations of suburbia, with all it s finery and entrapments. Cheever has been noted for his skill as a realist depicter of suburban manners and morals (Norton, p. 1861). Yet this story presents a deeper look into Neddy Merril s downfall from the contentment of a summer s day to the realization of darker times. • 13. Edward De Vere And Francis Bacon Did Not Write... Edward de Vere and Francis Bacon Did Not Write Shakespeare s Work People assume that just because as Pruitt (2015) explains ...Nothing has been found documenting the 37 plays and 154 sonnets (p. 1) that Shakespeare did not do his own work. Everyone believes someone else with more of an education is the mastermind behind the plays and sonnets. Someone like Christopher Marlowe, Edward de Vere, Francis Bacon, or perhaps a group of people. To begin with, examine Francis Bacon. Francis Bacon is a man of great importance back in the 16th and 17th century. He was famous for his authorship much like Shakespeare. Fortunately, no one thought of him to be the type to spend his time writinguseless poetry. He was more well known for his writing screenplays. Edmondson and Wells (2013) explain, While Bacon may have penned court entertainments, he was never suspected of wasting time in writing poetry, and is not known to have written a single blank verse in all his life. (p. 21) With that statement alone, the Bacon theory should be dismissed. If no one knew of him writing poetry, then there is no way he could have whipped out 154 sonnets when he was already famous. If this does not prove anything, we can examine both Shakespeare s and Bacon s styles of writing. Bacon did not write about nature and animals. In fact, he did not like to write about those things. In contrast, Shakespeare s favorite thing to write about was nature and animals. Bacon was Shakespeare s opposite, in a sense. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A bronze sculpture consisting of just six rectangular shapes and a semi rectangular base, this piece is very simple, and its minimalistic structure is similar to that of Malevich s Supremacist Composition: Airplane Flying. From a certain angle, the sculpture resembles a figure stumbling and falling over the base, depicting some sort of motion. In this sense, it is similar to Boccioni s Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, which sought to use air currents to symbolize a moving figure. The simplistic yet abstract nature of Shapiro s work makes it feel right as home in the Modernist Revolution, despite the fact that Shapiro s sculpture was made in 1991, more than 70 years after the Modernist Revolution occurred. In addition, Untitled is unlike any other figure sculpture we have studied thus far. Just about every major sculpture we have covered resembles some form of a human like body, whether they be an actual human or a divine figure. Even Unique Forms of Continuity in Space possesses what appear to be legs, a head and a torso. The odd and minimalistic composition of Untitled means that is possesses no definite form resembling a human and could very well be meant to resemble something completely unrelated to human, quite possibly an inanimate object or even something that was not meant to be resembled. The injury may damage the brain cells and create chemical changes in the brain (CDC). They are usually not life threatening, but the effects can be serious (CDC), especially if a person receives multiple concussions. Something that makes a concussiondangerous or life threatening is that the person may not even know that they have one or they may just shake it off and not pay attention to it. It is very common in athletes, but also appears in other people who receive an impact to the brain. The brain is a fragile organ. It is cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid that acts as a shock absorber for minor impacts (Sports Concussion Institute). A concussion is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. He realized that China was turning into a weak country from being isolated from Western ideas. In the beginning of his article, Feng said that the Chinese were inferior to the barbarians (Feng 357). By this time, China had already been humiliatingly defeated by the British in the Opium War, which showed that China lacked a strong military and advanced technology ( Plotting East Asia s Future 352). To remedy this, he proposed hiring Westerners to teach intelligent Chinese how to build strong ships and effective guns (Feng 357). Without having the military force or advanced weaponry and ships, China would be crushed again and again like it was in the Opium War and the later Sino Japanese War, which is known as another humiliating Chinese defeat (Tignor 659). To have a powerful nation at that time, a strong military with weapons was needed. Feng knew that in order to gain the needed military strength, the Chinese were going to have to learn from Westerners on how to build better ships and guns. Two other authors also proposed reforming the military. For example, Ii Naosuke, one of the Japanese writers, had the similar idea of learning from foreigners. Lupus Erythematosus Section One: Modes of Inheritance There are five different types of lupus: systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, drug induced lupus, neonatal lupus. Systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE, is the most common form of lupus. The exact cause of SLE is unknown; however, recent research has pointed to genetics as its main factor that is mostly triggered by environmental factors. While the exact gene that causes lupus is unknown, research has suggested that multiple genes factor into the development of SLE (What is Lupus? 2009). Two genes have been linked to SLE from human leukocyte antigens (HLA), DRB1*03 and DRB1*02, predominately in Caucasian and black populations. These HLA alleles have shown a strong connection ... In order to help with the diagnosis of lupus, the American College of Rheumatology developed the Eleven Criteria of Lupus which contains the typical symptoms of SLE and is used by doctors to diagnose patients. • 39. Scaffold Of Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne Seth Delposen Mrs. Macacci Literary critic essay December 1, 2015 Scaffold s Role in Scarlet Letter The scaffold, in Puritan times, was where criminals were shamed, ridiculed, and executed by the community. When they were released from jail, the first place that they went was to the scaffold, to be shown to the community. In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scaffold was not only a place of shame, but it was where character s social status rose and fell throughout the book. Hester Prynne s world came crashing down atop the scaffold. After spending time in jail for being pregnant outside of wedlock, she had to face her community, wearing a big scarlet letter across her bosom. The scarlet letter was the community s punishment for her sin and was their way of trying to get her to repent. The community forced her to wear the scarlet letter at all times and she was constantly shunned and abused for it. She wrestled with the decision to leave, and one time even considered killing Pearl and committing suicide. Also, she sees her husband for the first time in a long time on top of the scaffold. At the first scaffold scene, it says, Be that as it might, the scaffold of the pillory was a point of view that revealed to Hester Prynne the entire track along which she had been treading, since her happy infancy. Standing on that miserable eminence, she saw again her native village (Hawthorne 88). This not only shows Hester as miserable, but it is the start of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Issue of Accounting Entity Definition in Regards to... The UK public sector has been transformed over the past few decades. In an increasingly global economy, the main lever by which central governments can influence the success of the domestic economy is by ensuring its public sector operates efficiently. The central governments of the developed economies have adopted similar change agendas to transform their public sectors. These change agendas entail the introduction of new structures, new kinds of organizations and a reinvention of many parts of the public sector. The intention of successive governments has been the creation of a New Public Sector , which is more strategic and corporate in its thinking. Despite of that definition, the creation of an accounting entity is also a political process with potentially huge implications. KurunmГ¤ki states that the boundaries which describe an organization as an economic unit separate from other units are not as clear cut, natural or fixed as the accounting entity assumption implies . To which extent does NOMS now fulfill the above described requirements? What are the issues involved in the representation of NOMS as an accounting entity? By defining NOMS as an accounting entity, the financial controls involved seek to limit accountability to the very institution which is fair to say and in line with the so called market based New Public Sector reforms (Arnold, 1991). As a consequence, NOMS has to face the challenge to act within a managerial, instead of an administrative culture. When looking for example at healthcare reforms throughout Western Europe during the late 1970s and 1980, we find out that before introducing those reforms and seeing hospitals as accounting entities, several problems occurred: Poor management followed by arm s length management, with organizational actions guided by practices rooted in a rationality that privileged professional or clan over bureaucratic or managerial forms of control (KurunmГ¤ki, 1999).
