Virgin Of Guadalupe
Article #1 first discusses how the piece uses a tilma, or a woven cloak, as the canvas for the creation
of the Virgin of Guadalupe painting. The tilma uses two different types of fabric and could be
described as a cape like due to its length. The native painters used tempera and oil to create the
painting on the cloth piece. Guadalupe s skin color and black hair are both important factors to
consider during the interpretation of the painting, as no other image in the Spain had depicted Mary in
this way. However, over the years, the image has been altered quite a bit due to cracks and fading of
color in the painting. Her artistic meaning contained such as powerful message that she was also used

The conquistadors came over wanting to evangelize the native people, and the Virgin of Guadalupe
gave them an easy approach into doing it. It also discusses the resemblance between the Virgin of
Guadalupe and the Mulier Amicta Sole description within the Book of Revelation. However, the
article explains how the native people referred to the Mother of God as Guadalupe quite often. In fact,
many of the native people still had not converted to Christianity, but instead formed cults with
Guadalupe as their leader. The Mexican Guadalupe movement did not even grow large until the
seventeenth century when the native blood became more mixed and more Creoles, Spaniards born in
Mexico, made up most of the

Asymmetry In Crabs
On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a secondary
characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its environment
(McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among bilateral characters
in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The decapod crab Ranina
ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and the segments comprising
its pereiopods. Asymmetry in crabs has been a subject of interest among evolutionary biologist as it
gives the idea as to how a certain character evolve in shape in order to accommodate genetic and
environmental perturbations resulting to the formation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Asymmetry in decapods has been a focus of an on and off interest as observed by Oppenheimer
(1974) in McLaughlin, et al.,(2004) among carcinologist as decapod asymmetry has been a focus of
importance for nearly a century (Przibram 1905; Emmel 1908), then interest plummeted and risen
again. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been observed among
Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering this character to be
sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace, these structure provides
adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina abdomen unique among crab
species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs, abdomen are folded towards the ventral
aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a
tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also participates in the digging activity of the crab
(Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of
shells they are inhabiting. Asymmetry in shapes are often associated with the frequent use of a
particular character such as handedness or constant use (McLaughlin, et

PMO Mission Statement
A vision statement is often broad, future looking, and acts as a strategic guiding tool for an
organization to strive for ultimate satisfaction of stakeholders. However, a mission statement is
alternatively more focused, looking to gain buy in for strategic purposes and culture building, an
internal stakeholder tool. A Project Management Office (PMO) should strive to ensure that
organizational goals align with both the mission and vision statement, helping them to easily identify
projects that are a good fit. Additionally, it is easier to unite a team when they are clear on the
objective from the start, and everyone is on the same page (Toledo, 2013).

successfully identified how to reach the mission through these goals.
A generic healthcare PMO mission statement would be: Our PMO is persistently upgrading project

How can Ricci protect her product design? 4. What are the pros and cons of the mail ordering market
strategy? What are the pros and cons of alternative distribution methods? The biggest benefit that the
mail order marketing strategy will yield to Ricci is that she gets to choose when and where the Beach
Carrier is offered for sale. With this feature she can choose who distributes her product as well. The
next big pro for the mail order strategy is that she will receive immediate feedback on the
effectiveness of the system. If after the first wave goes out there is a lag in sales, she may need to
think of a new method to market/sell her product. A major disadvantage to the mail order system is
that oftentimes a small picture in a catalog is not an effective representation of the product itself and
could turn people off to potentially purchasing the Beach Carrier. Another con to this system is that
Ricci may not be reaching enough of the target consumers through her system. Her target
demographic, women, would not necessarily be reached by a Boating magazine. Also, advertising
through a magazine is a very ineffective way to reach a large market because it is very unlikely that
many potential customers are subscribed to that

Strategic alliance always helps to keep pace with the growing competition and changing trends within
the market (Freeman 2010).
In recent years the importance of strategic alliance has grown rapidly as the organizations have felt the
need of keeping the hold over their respective market that seems to become extremely competitive due
to the rise of new entrants. Nowadays it has become a trend for different multinational companies to
increase and expand their business through effective strategic alliance. Centrica Plc is a multinational
utility company that has exceptionally strategized their alliances and diversified their business all
across UK and other countries. Nowadays the companies not only have alliance with the other
companies but also extend their alliances with the consumers, stake holders, investors, suppliers,
research centres and also with some universities. It can be said that the recent strategic alliance is
more complex in nature involving not only companies but also other resources which are very
important in regards to success. Present researches shows that with growing number alliances have
increased the opportunity of diversity have also increased. One of the common determinants is the
formal structure used to organize the cooperation. This topic has been the subject of numerous

Donald Trump Race Summary
In this article, Martin explains how Donald Trump s inclusion into the race and his increasingly racist
attacks on minority groups is worrying Republicans. His recent statements regarding Hispanics and
Blacks have been highly controversial, and while his favorability rating is extremely low among those
demographics, 15% respectively, Donald Trump still leads by a large margin in the polls. Republican
party leaders do not believe he will win the nomination, but his attacks have drawn the Republican
talking points to the right. Just last week, Trump attacked Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish on the
campaign trail, and August 29th he criticized recent attacks on the police in regards to the recent
Baltimore riots. Other Republican nominees, hoping to grab some of the primary voters from Trump,
have begun attacking the two largest minorities in the United States. Ted Cruz recently spoke about
the Houston deputy who was killed, where he said Obama was to blame for the shooting, and that the
President was also responsible for the recent rioting in Baltimore. Ted Cruz has not been the only
nominee to follow Trump s success. Even Jeb Bush, who is married to a Mexican American
immigrant, has been attacking immigration policies, especially birthright ... Show more content on

The article s author seems to be highly negative of the flattery circulating in the race. This is
significant because the political process has been oversaturated with the flattery Socrates hates so
much. What we can learn about this article when we look at it through the PLatonic Framework is that
skilled oratory in politics, especially when it comes from people who do not know the issues, can be
dangerous and unjust. Trump does not know much about immigrants coming over the border, but he
speaks as if he does, and his successful flattery of the electorate is damaging the Republican Party and
could potentially damage U.S. and Mexico

Arkham Knight Research Paper
The Knight Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn
When I reached the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight after 12 hours of solid pacing, I literally
stood behind my chair like a five year old cheering for his favorite superhero, biting my nails as I
could no longer wait to see how it would all end. Not only does the finale of Batman: Arkham Knight
grant the legendary Arkham series the ending it deserves, but it also introduces so many new
gameplay mechanics that it manages to outdo the previous installments in the series, thus becoming
the very best comic book game in existence. If I am to be completely honest here, I have to say that
Batman: Arkham Knight is possibly one of the best video games I ever got to play, period.
Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push!Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push!

In these separate side missions, you will mostly be spending your time beating up thugs while chasing
villains like Firefly, Two Face and Penguin, which doesn t always work in the game s favor. Most side
missions end with you confronting the villain behind it all, and instead of it going down with a good
old fashioned boss fight, villains are easily knocked out by performing a Takedown of sorts (e.g.
Stealth Takedown, Vehicle Takedown and Dual Takedown). This is probably my biggest complaint
with Batman: Arkham Knight, because I for one truly enjoyed the recurrent boss fight in previous
Arkham games. In any case, almost all of these side missions are varied enough that they will keep
you interested, and if not, you can always choose to chase another villain and come back to the initial
mission later thanks to the simple and clear Mission

Go Ask Alice Is Written By An Anonymous Author Essay
The novel Go ask Alice is written by an anonymous author and is based on a diary kept by a
conventional teenager who then turns into a suicidal drug addict. What happens to Alice at one
unsavoury party changed her life forever. She is invited to Jill s party, someone she doesn t know well,
where her drink is unknowingly spiked with LSD. Not long after that Alice amassed a dependence on
drugs, for example she was unable to last even a few days sober. The author of the diary, Alice, has a
raw style and format of writing that fascinated me. The writing style exposed real emotions, and did
not hold back. It was as if Alice was talking to her best friend and thought that no one would see her
diary. I also think that because I am a teenager and so is Alice I was able to relate to the life she had
and the pressures she feels. Alice taught me that even saying yes once to drugs, could lead to life
threatening consequences. The themes I noticed were, the influence of the media, the highs and lows
of teenage life and the dangers of drug use.
Something I found unique about the book was the style and format. Go ask Alice is one of the few
books I have read that was written in diary form, I liked the way that it skipped from one day to the
next yet still kept making sense. I also enjoyed the way the writer described the highs on drugs, as not
many other books with powerful moral messages surrounding the dangers of drugs actually expose
what it is like to be on drugs. The book s honesty

Imperial System Of Han China During The Yongzheng Period...
Autocracy in Qing China During The Yongzheng Period In Jonathan D. Spence s book, Treason By
The Book, we are introduced to Qing China during the rule of the Yongzheng Emperor who, during
his reign, must investigate a scandal involving dissident, rogue scholars who threaten the Chinese
imperial system. The imperial system revolves entirely around the emperor who must rule
benevolently, and as an autocrat. As is typical of an autocrat, the Emperor rules by divine right, and as
a result has no checks on his power by law or citizenry, contains some elements of arbitrariness such
as cronyism, nepotism and overruling officials based on what comes down to emotion, and has a vast
bureaucracy capable of tracking down and interrogating anyone accused of being a dissident,
including other officials. Therefore, despite Emperor Yongzheng s noble attitudes and ideas, evidence
within Treason By The Book shows that Yongzheng is unequivocally an autocrat, because he fits all
the previously listed criteria. When looking at what made Emperor Yongzheng an autocrat, it s
important to look at the tactics implemented by the emperor to ensure cooperation and to crack down
on any resistance or potential plots against him. During the first few pages of Treason By The Book,
we are introduced to first instance of the very efficient and meticulous world of bureaucratic spy
campaigns and information gathering authorities when the Emperor sends an official from the
Ministry of Punishments to gather

Speech On The Bag Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
Good morning/afternoon everyone, today I will be presenting my show bag of Cormac McCarthy s
dystopian novel The Road .
The Road is a post apocalyptic tale of a tough, miserable journey of a father and his son heading south
through North America over a period of several months, across a landscape ruined by and unknown
cataclysm. This event has destroyed almost all of known civilisation to humans, save various
survivors and structures once known as cities.
The items I have brought in that are symbolic to the text is the following (pulling them out one by
one): A horseshoe (to represent luck and hope), a multi tool (to represent survival), a Jar of ash (to
represent the lifelessness and landscape), a can of Coca Cola (to represent the past and the boy in the
novel) and finally a simple backpack (to represent a journey). The multi tool is related to physical
aspects of a human because it gets the job done, for example the mini saw is used to cut branches off
trees, similar to how the human has hands to prepare food or put up a tent.
Firstly, the rusty Horseshoe, it used to go on a horse, obviously, but it can also be classified as a lucky
charm. Luck was one of the main characteristics that kept the man and the child alive, so they thought.
But relying on luck in a time like that wouldn t be the best of ideas, this is because most of your
survival comes with your skills and wits. However with luck comes hope, like how eating food brings
you enjoyment. Somehow surviving on

Annexation Of Texas Dbq Essay
Throughout the late 1830s and early 1840s, political controversy broke out over the annexation of
Texas into the United States claiming that it was the destiny of the country to expand through the

Westward expansion, however, war with Mexico was an unavoidable risk and would create even more
problems with slavery. Northern and Western regions of the Unites States opposed annexation because
while the South wanted to add Texas into the Union to expand the slave industry. Annexation of Texas
was also seen as revenge for the vast amount of American deaths during the Alamo and Goliad.

Other cases that were observed through court visits further emphasised the nature of the judicial
process in the Local Courts. The summary proceedings served in a number of cases to emphasise the
triviality of the process. Cases involving minor offences such as traffic offences and petty theft were
particularly trivial however other cases such as domestic violence and minor assault charges were not
so inconsequential. They were of particular importance to the parties involved and it is thus important
not to overgeneralise the process of the lower courts to being mere triviality. Whilst in the local courts
there was an emphasis on speed and efficiency, this did not automatically mean that strict legality was
disregarded. The importance placed on evidence and onus on the prosecutors in providing proof
upheld important elements of the criminal justice system. Higher criminal court Ideology of Justice
On observing the District Court a number of distinctions from the Local Courts were immediately
made apparent. Without going in to detail about the actual structure of the courts, they seemed to fit
more closely with the traditional schema of a typical courtroom. In particular the larger courtrooms
with more facilities combined with the barristers and magistrates wearing their wig and robes seemed
to instantly uphold the ideology of justice. It is interesting to note how appearances can automatically

The People With Disability Will Face Discrimination
We live in a digital world where the physical work becoming lesser and lesser day by day. In the
professional world, if we look at any workplace whether it is industry or business, the people with
disability will face discrimination. Stereotypical thinking is that people with physical disability cannot

though the disabled persons find difficulties. Most questionable thing is that, physically disabled
persons who are entrepreneurs, they run their own business but they initially had faced discrimination
in the professional world even though they have the qualification and every other qualities that proved
that they are completely eligible for the job. The most questionable thing is that even bank which

able for employment as any other normal person. They usually face a discrimination for being a
disabled person. The main thing is that the perspective of the person towards them. Some people have
a negative attitude towards disabled persons that they are physically and mentally not strong as a

Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel became friends with a Man

Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on their leader s actions
because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion that their nation s people have. The song
Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel.
Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this
assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions
and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not
typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting
that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or
not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and
frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact
opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown
up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the
song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his
words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American
people have towards the Russian s system of

The Influence Of El Nino On Australia And Ecuador
El Nino is a warm current in the Pacific Ocean that flows southward along South America s west
coast. It usually last nine to twelfth months and returns an average 4 years. Normally deep, cold
Pacific waters well up to the surface of the Peruvian and Ecuadorian coast, bringing up nutrients and
chilling surface waters and causing climatic changes worldwide. A powerful El Nino in 1982 and 1983
caused severe drought in Australia and Indonesia and an unusually large number of storms in
California. During the 1997 98 El Nino, heavy rains caused flooding in Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina;
monsoons and cyclones struck Madagascar: and severe storms pelted Texas and the Southeast. More
recent El Nino events in 2003 and 2006 were not as devastating.

I Hear America Singing By Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes spoke and captivated the general struggles of an African American s life during the
1900s through his poem, I, Too. Hughes points out the injustice of bigotry or one s beliefs in America,
and his overall message is saying that an African American s hard work is just as noteworthy as any
other American. In contrast, Walt Whitman, author of I Hear America Singing, speaks about the
employed citizens of America. He gives honor to those who are living their lives and working to make
America a better place. Despite the fact that both poems are similar, they also have a vast amount of
differences. Whitman s poem is perplexed, while Hughes is straightforward. These authors poems
focus on different themes and give the readers different perspectives. These poems are inspiring and
demonstrate a new vision for society, however, the themes vary as Whitman focuses on a unified
nation, and Hughes demonstrates his writing through an individual.
To start off, the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, has a lot to do with patriotism. I
Hear America Singing focuses mainly on Americans employed citizens during the late 1800s. In lines
2 13, Whitman gives examples of all the various jobs that Americans have. He does not mention of
any races or skin color throughout his poem, and while the citizens are described, they are singing.
Whitman adds the singing aspect to serve as concrete and abstract language. In this poem, he uses the
singing to represent a deeper

The Federal Reserve Act Single Handedly Broke
The Federal Reserve This brings us to the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve is a private entity that
is not connected or governed by the United States. It came into existence in 1913 by the Federal
Reserve act. Many people believed are still believe it is a part of our government. Sadly, they are
greatly mistaken. It originated from Jekyll Island are very wealthy people gathered to create it for their
own selfish and personal gain from which only they controlled. The founding fathers stated clearly in
the Constitution that there should never be a central bank and that gold and silver should be legal
tender. The Federal Reserve act single handedly broke this law with the issuance of paper currency.
The main consensus would be that the American people would now be able to store their gold and
silver or wealth safely inside these banks behind both doors for a small fee. In return they would be
given paper notes correlating with the amount of gold or silver they deposited in the bank. If they were
to spend these notes at a merchant s store the marching could then decide to go to the bank and deposit
the notes for the equivalent in gold or silver. It was such a great system that other countries decided to
trust it and store their gold in US banks. In return they also got US dollars. Seems like a pretty solid
monetary system right? Well it was for a while, until certain people started to become greedy. The

Use Of Antibiotic Resistance For A Large Number Of Infections
Maddie Ward

Transformation Lab
Abstract:
Ampicillin is a beta lactam antibiotic which can be used to treat a large number of infections. For
example, Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria is terminated by this specific antibiotic. Ampicillin
interferes with the formation of bacterial cell walls and thus kills newly dividing cells that must form
new cell walls. Plasmids contain genes that create antibiotic resistance to their host cell. The pGlo
plasmid contains an Ampicillin resistance gene. Therefore, bacteria that take up the plasmid and
transform become resistant to Ampicillin. To carry out this experiment, my colleagues and I took four
petri dishes containing the bacterial host cells (E. coli) on each and the Ampicillin on two of those
four. Through a tedious process, we added the pGlo plasmid to one petri dish of just the host cell and
one petri dish of the host cell and the Ampicillin antibiotic. When examining the results of our
experiment, we noticed that both petri dishes containing zero Ampicillin entirely submerged in a lawn
of the Escherichia coli bacteria, the petri dish containing no plasmid but some Ampicillin displayed
zero growth, and the petri dish containing the plasmid and Ampicillin showed individual colonies of
the E. coli bacteria glowing under a UV light. The reason this occurred is because the petri dishes that
showed a lawn of bacteria contained no Ampicillin so there was no antibiotic to kill the bacteria off.

Consequences Of The Haitian Revolution
Circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution inevitable by 1791
Slavery changed society outlook in life, it also created many memories which would be rather
forgotten. Many countries were turned into colonies and were made victims of slavery. One country
that had one of the biggest impacts on the abolishment of slavery was Haiti. Many historians have
considered Haiti and their actions against slavery to be a great milestone in its abolition. The
Revolution was not know for it uniqueness but the most successful of the rebellions that took place in
history. This essay seeks to highlight the circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution
inevitable by 1791 and its relevance in history.

was an area of autonomous activity for the slaves. Voodoo acted as a medium for psychological

The Stop-Question and Frisk Program
The black or white, either or and this or that misconceptions that are common in conversations with
children seems to be arising over the Stop and Frisk Law in New York City. It has long been an issue
of debate over whether it is a form of practicing racial profiling since its implementation. Arguments
between advocates and critics of the law appear to be so incompatible that people are simply taking
sides rather than trying to push the discussion forward. Frankly, supporters and protestors of the
practice have established their opinions with incomplete information and lack of adequate critical
reasoning. While those in favor have failed to admit to the apparent existence of racial profiling, those
who are against the law only focus on racial profiling and do not participate in the broader discussion
of whether or not it actually brings safety to the city. The conversation might be able to move forward
if both sides were to emphasize on the most crucial issue of whether safety trumps civil rights.
The Stop Question and Frisk Program, more commonly known as stop and frisk or 250s, authorizes
police to stop and question pedestrians and frisk them for weapons or other contrabands. This practice
is based on the decision of the United States Supreme Court form the case of Terry v. Ohio. The

The Mystery Of The Lost Colony Of Roanoke
The mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke is a puzzling mystery about what happened to the first
English settlers in America. The question is, what actually happened to them, because even with
evidence and research no one knows for absolute certain what actually did happen. The disappearance
of an entire colony, who left behind a dismantled settlement and the word Croatoan etched into a tree
has stumped many archaeologists. Countless theories have arisen, some more outrageous than the rest.
Were they killed by Indians? Taken by aliens? Abducted? Sabotaged? The mystery of the Lost Colony
of Roanoke has an abundance of theories, but the most plausible is that the colonist were assimilated
into the Lumbee tribe. Colonists arrived on Roanoke Island in 1587, with the hopes of becoming the
first English colony in America (Bernstein 2:55). The colony was to be governed by John White and
was composed of English families who wished to make a new home for themselves, among the
colonists was John White s daughter, Virginia Dare. Several months later the colony s governor sailed
back to England for supplies. The shortage of supplies was due to skirmishes with the Natives, loss of
supplies due to storms, and with the time for planting over the colonists had no way to find enough
food. John White promised to return as quickly as possible, but due to unforeseen circumstances was
unable to return as soon as was expected. Three years later, John White returned only to find

35 students involved themselves in the rally. 15 of these students had rated themselves as shy. Eight of
those were rated as shy too by their classmates. We therefore had 8 students who we could, almost
with conviction, define as shy. This was particularly so since results of the instrument supported this
assessment. Special indirect observation was therefore accorded these 8 shy students to see whether or
not they lost their personalty, as classical crowd psychology asserted, under influence of the crowd.
The rally itself occurred for an hour between the times of 2.00 3.00pm. The excuse was of calling for
greater student rights on campus. I chose a topic that we thought students would be particularly
interested in. We also chose a time of day where students would not be too tired, nor did they have a
heavy workload of classes on that particular day. The march too was outside their campus so students
would not have to travel to it. We also attempted to chose a cool day. All these conditions were
selected with the intention of excluding any possible confounding elemetn. The students seemed
sufficiently motivated. Three of the eight shy students evidenced slightly louder behavior than usual
more extroverted with one carrying a banner and the others actually, to some extent, being caught up
in the engineered fervor. The others, however, seemed less disinterested with two actually walking

Climate Change Is The Single Biggest Environmental And...
Climate change is the single biggest environmental and humanitarian crisis of our time. Our Earth s
temperature is climbing at an alarming rate. Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4°F over the
past century, and is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F over the next hundred years. The planet is
seeing the devastating effects of a warmer earth; warmer oceans, melting ice caps, and rising sea
levels. As these and other changes become more pronounced in the coming decades, they will likely
present challenges to our society and our environment. When the sun s radiation reaches our
atmosphere, some is reflected back into space and some passes through and is absorbed by the Earth.
This causes the surface of the Earth to warm up. Heat released from the Earth is radiated outward and
absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This process prevents heat from disappearing into
space and keeps Earth warm enough to sustain life. Some human activities, such as burning fossil
fuels, intensify the warming effect by releasing additional greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
These gases include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Carbon dioxide is considered a
relatively weak gas; however, so much of it is released that it has the largest impact on the enhanced
greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is primarily produced by the burning of fossil fuels in cars, power
plants, and factories. About three fourths of the carbon dioxide added to the air comes from burning
fossil

Biological Weapons Of Mass Destruction On The United States
Weapons of Mass Destruction pose a huge threat on the United States, because they are an ideal
weapon for terrorists. There are four different kinds of these weapons; these are Chemical, Biological,
Radiological, and Nuclear. The one I would like to focus on are biological weapons, because they are
seem the most probable. Why would I consider a biological weapon of mass destruction more
probable? A biological attack is the ...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans
plants or animals... (Forest Howard, 2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins are intentionally
released because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to

Get rid of one terrorist group and another one will pop up; this is why to get rid of terrorism, we must

must focus on making it extremely difficult for terrorists to get hold of such agents. Of course, we
must make sure that we are not limiting the knowledge of the good guys as well. There has to be some
fine median between the two needs. The most important solution to these problems is partnerships.
The government should for partnerships and relationships with other countries, agencies, and with the

loopholes and weaknesses. It s another reason why countries should work out regulations together to
determine which laboratories should have certain dangerous biological agents. Limiting the amount of
laboratories that contain these hazardous agents and increasing security of such laboratories will help

What Is The Theme Of The Green Mile
Stephen King and his story, the green mile
Stephen King is a world known author who writes horror/psychological fiction. As a boy, he was
interested in horror books. He wrote some stories himself, just for fun, and he never stopped. In 1996
he published the green mile, (a movie was made later on).
The story is about the John Coffey and his execution in E block at Cold Mountain State Penitentiary.
Hal Moores is the warden of the penitentiary, his wife is very sick. Paul Edgecomb is the head of E
block and a friend of Moores. E block is where they keep the death row prisoners and perform capital
punishment. One day Paul receives a prisoner who supposedly raped and killed two young farm girls.

John Coffey was convicted of the rape and murder of two tiny farm girls. He is as big as a giant, but
he isn t scary. Unexpectedly the man is scared of the dark and holds magical powers. He makes many
friends on E block, they are fascinated by his magic and kindness. John gave some of his magic to
Paul and Mr. Jingles causing them both to live an unnaturally long life. At his execution Paul shook

The first and most noticeable difference between the movie and book is how the story is told. At the
nursing home Paul has a friend, Elaine. In the movie he tells her what happened because it upset him.
While in the book he writes the story and lets her read it. The book often comes back to the elderly
Paul and sees how he s doing, in the movie we only see him in the beginning and the end.
For some reason the directors of the movie decided to leave out Janet s death. I think that part was
very important and it helped us understand what Paul has to go through with his long life

How Do Earnings Numbers Relate to Stock Returns? A Review of Classic Accounting Research with

SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides
important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we summarize
the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firms’ stock returns,

We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal
papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This
paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market
consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical
links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1)
current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide
information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information
to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe
how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the
valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using
data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by

Home burial focuses on a rural husband and wife and examines their reaction to a sudden, unexpected
discovery, namely the death of their infant child. While the wife undergoes profound personal change,
supporting the previous two paragraphs, the husband, a pragmatic farmer used to death, experiences
no change. The husband s lack of reaction to the death is evident in the line Three foggy mornings and
one rainy day will rot the best birch fence that a man can build which is significant at those are his
first words after finishing his own child s burial. This trivialisation of this confronting discoveries
establishes the sheer lack of impact that it had on the husband. Further evidence can be seen in the
divide that emerges between the husband and wife after the child s death. The poem starts out with the
two separated, with the husband Advancing toward her to cross both the physical and emotional divide
between them; however, the wife soon Withdrew and restored the divide. This divide emerges as the
wife, who experiences great change, is pushed far away while the husband remains stationary and
unaffected. The discovery has so little effect on the man due to his experiences as a farmer which have
likely accustomed him to death. Discoveries differ vastly between people due their unique

The Diverse Roles of Women in Movies Essay
The Diverse Roles of Women in Movies
In society we have a lot of women actresses. Some tend to play the motherly type, some play the
manipulator type and some even play the victims of abusive relationships. No matter what women
seem to be coming up in the industry of movies in more ways than before. The three movies I have
chosen to analyze in my critique are Heartbreakers, Baby Boy and Stepmom. These three movies all
have women in them that either play a major role or the main role. All their roles are very different in
character and none of the women in these three movies play a similar role.

The second movie in which a woman plays a major role in is Baby Boy. This movie, I believe did not
do too much damage to the box offices when it first came out, but it sure portrayed women in a very
negative way. The main character is actually a man by the name of Tyrese Gibson. He plays a boy who
is struggling to grow up and become not only an independent adult, but also a responsible father (to
more than one child). The main female role in the movie is Tyrese s baby s mother. She is in love with
him and would do anything to keep him happy. She let s him use her car and she let s him stay at her
place at any time with her and their son. He cheats on her a lot and at one point even hits her. This was
a major part in the movie. He had promised her he would never lay his hands on her and he did. She
stopped talking to him for quite some time, and that whole time you could sense they were both
miserable without eachother. Some men tend to hurt women for the simple facts that they just don t
know how to control their anger or because they were never taught good communication skills. They

Karl Marx And The History Of Marxism
Chapter 1: In this chapter I m going to explain a brief introduction to Karl Marx and the history of
Marxism. Karl Marx, who was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist and
revolutionary socialist created the theory of Marxism. Marx was born in Trier, Germany in 1818 and
died in London in 1883. The social struggles in Marxs family were apparent before he was even born,
ancestrally Jewish, he came from a long line rabbis on both sides of his family. His father, who was a
lawyer converted to the Protestant denomination of Lutheranism, which was the predominant sect in
Germany and Prussia at the time, in order to escape the constraints of Pre Nazi anti Semitic
legislation. Marx started Trier High School in 1830, after having been home schooled by his father.
The headmaster Hugo Wyttenbach, who was a friend of his fathers, employed many liberal humanists
as teachers which the conservative government at the time strongly opposed leading to the police
raiding the school in 1832, discovering literature supporting political liberalism had been distributed
amongst the students. This being considered as such a heinous crime the authorities took it upon
themselves to institute reforms and replaced several members of staff during Marx s attendance at the
school. Marx attended the University of Bonn in 1835, aged 17, wanting to study philosophy; his
father disagreed with this and believed that law would be a more appropriate field of study. In his time

The Limit Point Of Capitalist Equality
In the pursuit of equality many different attempts have been made to obtain this quality including
protests and laws or legal acts. However, no matter how many legal regulations are instituted, or
protests are held, true equality has never been accessed, and will never be accessed until there are
significant changes made to the ideology and mindset of the citizens of this country. Both Chris Chen
and Christine Delphy who advocate for race and gender equality respectively, are two authors who
believe that these radical changes must be made to create equality in society. They each give similar
yet different ways to alter the mindset of modern society. In her essay Rethinking Sex and Gender,
Delphy states that in order to truly gain equality among the sexes, we have to eliminate the idea of
gender altogether. On the other hand, in his essay The Limit Point of Capitalist Equality, Chen argues
that to eliminate racial inequality we need to change our mindset and stop defining race as physical or
cultural qualities that distinguish us, or thinking of it as a noun, and start thinking of race as the
institutional roadblocks put in front of people of color, or as a verb. Both of these alterations can seem
very drastic at face value, and would in fact be undesirable to many. However, once some of the ideas
of Chen and Delphy are superimposed upon one another, they illuminate how each one can be applied
to, and work in society. Also once these ideas are used consecutively, they

Criminal Copyright And Intellectual Property Laws
Criminal copyright infringement can come in many forms. Anything that has been created by one s
mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not something
that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be. Many copyright
cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their intellectual property
has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the accused party to cease
use of the material.
While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize those
who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have changed. This is
partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital
Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of
1999 are all aimed at decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement and increasing
penalties for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his article in
2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even more shifts in
how copyrights are infringed upon.
International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite
complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all
intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on copyrights
and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some common ground
among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes in the form of
treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual property and
enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. Copyright.gov, the United States
governments official website for information on copyright law list two treaties as being principal in
governing international

The Major Characteristics Of A Culture
China has the oldest, continuous, civilization in the world that dates more than four thousand years of
existence, and has passed its culture through generations. Culture is a dynamic social system,
containing the values, beliefs, behaviors, and norms of a specific group, organization, or society . (FM
3 24 COUNTERINSURGENCY, 2016). The five major characteristics that define a culture are
learned, shared, based on symbols, integrated, and dynamic. The first is a characteristic in which the
process of learning about one s culture from childhood. Because we share our cultures with other
people we are able to comprehend each other s and predict how others will act. Symbols are things
distinctive to the culture and can be anything from currency to landmarks. Integrated is being able to
learn all parts of a culture to truly understand it. Dynamic is simply different cultures interacting so
they can exchange ideas and symbols. Physical Geography and Weather Analysis China consist mostly

Personal Reflection On Deaf People
My personal reflect on this film is that around the 1800 s it seemed that people didn t like deaf people.
They were isolated from the others, and they also thought that they couldn t be taught, but in 1817
Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet opened the first deaf children school in America. Which was grate because
they were going to be able to learn new things. The man named Alexander Graham Bell thought that a
life without signing will be a better life. Bell also tried to keep deaf people apart from each other
because he didn t want a big community of deaf people in the world. And that was unfair because
hearing people wouldn t really be able to communicate with deaf people. Bell also thought that
teaching the children to read lips and to speck would be much better. In fact around the late 1860 s
oral schools opened which was pretty cool but it was unfair that they didn t want the children to sign,
specially because that was their natural language. One thing that I thought was pretty cool was that the
kids would make their own sign name, by seeing what your character was like and seeing how you
were, then they will give you a sign name that sort of ties into you, something unique to you. Another
thing that was unfair that deaf people had to go through was that in school they couldn t sign, they
were suppose to lip read and use their quality of the speech. In my opinion that s not fair because it s
like saying that we hearing people have to use sign to communicate. And we couldn t have

“Everyday Use” by Alice Walker Essay
In its simplest form, a child is a product of a man and a woman but Alice Walker one of the foremost
authors during the twentieth century, adds depth to her black American women by focusing on the role
that race and gender played in their development. Family reunions can be times of great anticipation,
excitement and happiness but for Dee, a young, beautiful, African American and our leading character,
it was a reunion with underlying, unspoken tensions. Dee was Dee but Dee had changed; a new
husband, nice clothes, and a college degree to boat. Maybe that college degree certificate could be
farmed and hung on the wall replacing that old photo of George Washington Carver, out with the old
and in with the new. Alice Walker is showing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is not willing to commit to the hard work of the cause and faith he claims to embrace
(SparkNotes). Walker s story is an evaluation of individuals who get the wrong idea about some of the
ideals that black consciousness groups promoted during 1950s. A bit of realism is given in the story by
some particular languages, specialized diction, and Mama s exclusive expressions. Walker gives
Mama the right to narrate and control to convey the story and thoughts in their own way. For example,
some particular language used by Dee s mother like butter churning and cheese making adds realism
to the story. This makes the audience think that they are a poor farm family. The mother makes the
languages her own (SparkNotes). For instance, she refers to her husband carving benches when the
family could not effort instead of afford to buy chairs, and she describes the milk in the churn as
crabber . Walker raises comedy as a way of improving the story s observations, such as in the weak
comedy irritated by Mama s reaction to Dee s, and Hakim s difficult to pronounce names. Mama
eventually gives up on Hakim a barber s name and secretly addresses him as what she thinks he
sounds like: a barber. The history of these quilts is a history of the family. The quilts was most
valuable to Mama and Maggie, they do not want to see the quilts as stuff to be hung on the wall and
respected as folk art, but as the useful household items. Walker is

Greek Architecture Essay
Characteristics of Greek Architecture:
INTRODUCTION:
Instead of covering nearly every bit of space with ornament, as the Egyptians did, the Greeks selected
only the best places for it, and thus gave it its proper effect. The decorations, especially the sculptures,
were one of the chief features of a Greek temple. Besides their temples the Greeks built many theaters
which may be studied from their ruins, but of their dwelling houses almost nothing remains to us.
The Greek style is noted for the repose, harmony, and proportion of its effect. These are terms we
might use in speaking of a painting, but they relate to the composition of a building which is, in many
respects, similar to the composition of a picture. In selecting his ... Show more content on

The most important of the Ionic temples left to us is the Erechtheum at Athens. It differs from other
temples in its irregularity. This makes it doubly interesting for it shows that although the Greeks
nearly always adhered to one simple form, they could dispense with it when they wished. In the
Erechtheum, they wished to provide for several shrines in one building, and under one roof. The
irregularity they have made so beautiful and interesting that it is a wonder they did not repeat the idea
many times in other structures. Its two colonnades of different designs, its remarkable north doorway,
and the famous caryatid porch to the south are unsurpassed. Another temple, that of Artemis (Diana) at
Ephesus, was known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
THE GREEK CORINTHIAN ORDER:
This is the most ornate of the classical orders, and the most slender in its proportions. The capital is
shaped somewhat like a bell inverted, and is adorned with rows of acanthus leaves. A great example of
the, third, or Corinthian order is the monument of Lysicrates at Athens.
Straight is the line of duty.
Curved is the line of beauty
Follow the one and it shall be; The other shall always follow thee.
For such reasons, Greek architecture was called Intellectual .

The tilma uses two different types of fabric and could be described as a cape like due to its length. The native painters used tempera and oil to create the painting on the cloth piece. Guadalupe s skin color and black hair are both important factors to consider during the interpretation of the painting, as no other image in the Spain had depicted Mary in this way. However, over the years, the image has been altered quite a bit due to cracks and fading of color in the painting. Asymmetry In Crabs On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a secondary characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its environment (McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among bilateral characters in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The decapod crab Ranina ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and the segments comprising its pereiopods. Asymmetry in decapods has been a focus of an on and off interest as observed by Oppenheimer (1974) in McLaughlin, et al.,(2004) among carcinologist as decapod asymmetry has been a focus of importance for nearly a century (Przibram 1905; Emmel 1908), then interest plummeted and risen again. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been observed among Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering this character to be sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace, these structure provides adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina abdomen unique among crab species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs, abdomen are folded towards the ventral aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also participates in the digging activity of the crab (Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of shells they are inhabiting. What are the pros and cons of alternative distribution methods? The biggest benefit that the mail order marketing strategy will yield to Ricci is that she gets to choose when and where the Beach Carrier is offered for sale. With this feature she can choose who distributes her product as well. The next big pro for the mail order strategy is that she will receive immediate feedback on the effectiveness of the system. If after the first wave goes out there is a lag in sales, she may need to think of a new method to market/sell her product. A major disadvantage to the mail order system is that oftentimes a small picture in a catalog is not an effective representation of the product itself and could turn people off to potentially purchasing the Beach Carrier. Another con to this system is that Ricci may not be reaching enough of the target consumers through her system. Her target demographic, women, would not necessarily be reached by a Boating magazine. Also, advertising through a magazine is a very ineffective way to reach a large market because it is very unlikely that many potential customers are subscribed to that ... Republican party leaders do not believe he will win the nomination, but his attacks have drawn the Republican talking points to the right. Go Ask Alice Is Written By An Anonymous Author Essay The novel Go ask Alice is written by an anonymous author and is based on a diary kept by a conventional teenager who then turns into a suicidal drug addict. What happens to Alice at one unsavoury party changed her life forever. She is invited to Jill s party, someone she doesn t know well, where her drink is unknowingly spiked with LSD. Not long after that Alice amassed a dependence on drugs, for example she was unable to last even a few days sober. The author of the diary, Alice, has a raw style and format of writing that fascinated me. The writing style exposed real emotions, and did not hold back. It was as if Alice was talking to her best friend and thought that no one would see her diary. I also think that because I am a teenager and so is Alice I was able to relate to the life she had and the pressures she feels. Alice taught me that even saying yes once to drugs, could lead to life threatening consequences. The themes I noticed were, the influence of the media, the highs and lows of teenage life and the dangers of drug use. Something I found unique about the book was the style and format. Go ask Alice is one of the few books I have read that was written in diary form, I liked the way that it skipped from one day to the next yet still kept making sense. I also enjoyed the way the writer described the highs on drugs, as not many other books with powerful moral messages surrounding the dangers of drugs actually expose what it is like to be on drugs. • 13. Imperial System Of Han China During The Yongzheng Period... Autocracy in Qing China During The Yongzheng Period In Jonathan D. Spence s book, Treason By The Book, we are introduced to Qing China during the rule of the Yongzheng Emperor who, during his reign, must investigate a scandal involving dissident, rogue scholars who threaten the Chinese imperial system. The imperial system revolves entirely around the emperor who must rule benevolently, and as an autocrat. As is typical of an autocrat, the Emperor rules by divine right, and as a result has no checks on his power by law or citizenry, contains some elements of arbitrariness such as cronyism, nepotism and overruling officials based on what comes down to emotion, and has a vast bureaucracy capable of tracking down and interrogating anyone accused of being a dissident, including other officials. Therefore, despite Emperor Yongzheng s noble attitudes and ideas, evidence within Treason By The Book shows that Yongzheng is unequivocally an autocrat, because he fits all the previously listed criteria. When looking at what made Emperor Yongzheng an autocrat, it s important to look at the tactics implemented by the emperor to ensure cooperation and to crack down on any resistance or potential plots against him. During the first few pages of Treason By The Book, we are introduced to first instance of the very efficient and meticulous world of bureaucratic spy campaigns and information gathering authorities when the Emperor sends an official from the Ministry of Punishments to gather ... • 16. Speech On The Bag Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy Good morning/afternoon everyone, today I will be presenting my show bag of Cormac McCarthy s dystopian novel The Road . The Road is a post apocalyptic tale of a tough, miserable journey of a father and his son heading south through North America over a period of several months, across a landscape ruined by and unknown cataclysm. This event has destroyed almost all of known civilisation to humans, save various survivors and structures once known as cities. The items I have brought in that are symbolic to the text is the following (pulling them out one by one): A horseshoe (to represent luck and hope), a multi tool (to represent survival), a Jar of ash (to represent the lifelessness and landscape), a can of Coca Cola (to represent the past and the boy in the novel) and finally a simple backpack (to represent a journey). The multi tool is related to physical aspects of a human because it gets the job done, for example the mini saw is used to cut branches off trees, similar to how the human has hands to prepare food or put up a tent. Firstly, the rusty Horseshoe, it used to go on a horse, obviously, but it can also be classified as a lucky charm. Luck was one of the main characteristics that kept the man and the child alive, so they thought. Court Report LAWS1021: Court research report The basic division in the structure of criminal courts is between the lower criminal courts the local courts, Children s court and Coroner s court and the higher criminal courts the District Court and the Supreme Court. In observing proceedings at the Local, District and Supreme Courts over a period of three days a number of aspects of the criminal justice system were made apparent. The administration, processes and practices of the criminal trial are extremely varied dependent upon the level of criminal court being observed. The distinctions between the workings of the two courts revealed a number of the differences between summary proceedings and trial upon indictment. The cases observed served to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other cases that were observed through court visits further emphasised the nature of the judicial process in the Local Courts. The summary proceedings served in a number of cases to emphasise the triviality of the process. Cases involving minor offences such as traffic offences and petty theft were particularly trivial however other cases such as domestic violence and minor assault charges were not so inconsequential. They were of particular importance to the parties involved and it is thus important not to overgeneralise the process of the lower courts to being mere triviality. Whilst in the local courts there was an emphasis on speed and efficiency, this did not automatically mean that strict legality was disregarded. The importance placed on evidence and onus on the prosecutors in providing proof upheld important elements of the criminal justice system. Higher criminal court Ideology of Justice On observing the District Court a number of distinctions from the Local Courts were immediately made apparent. Without going in to detail about the actual structure of the courts, they seemed to fit more closely with the traditional schema of a typical courtroom. In particular the larger courtrooms with more facilities combined with the barristers and magistrates wearing their wig and robes seemed to instantly uphold the ideology of justice. It is interesting to note how appearances can automatically provide an impression that justice will be upheld. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Leningrad Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain. Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on their leader s actions because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion that their nation s people have. The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American people have towards the Russian s system of ... Hughes points out the injustice of bigotry or one s beliefs in America, and his overall message is saying that an African American s hard work is just as noteworthy as any other American. In contrast, Walt Whitman, author of I Hear America Singing, speaks about the employed citizens of America. He gives honor to those who are living their lives and working to make America a better place. Despite the fact that both poems are similar, they also have a vast amount of differences. Whitman s poem is perplexed, while Hughes is straightforward. These authors poems focus on different themes and give the readers different perspectives. These poems are inspiring and demonstrate a new vision for society, however, the themes vary as Whitman focuses on a unified nation, and Hughes demonstrates his writing through an individual. To start off, the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, has a lot to do with patriotism. I Hear America Singing focuses mainly on Americans employed citizens during the late 1800s. In lines 2 13, Whitman gives examples of all the various jobs that Americans have. The Federal Reserve is a private entity that is not connected or governed by the United States. It came into existence in 1913 by the Federal Reserve act. It originated from Jekyll Island are very wealthy people gathered to create it for their own selfish and personal gain from which only they controlled. The founding fathers stated clearly in the Constitution that there should never be a central bank and that gold and silver should be legal tender. The Federal Reserve act single handedly broke this law with the issuance of paper currency. The main consensus would be that the American people would now be able to store their gold and silver or wealth safely inside these banks behind both doors for a small fee. In return they would be given paper notes correlating with the amount of gold or silver they deposited in the bank. If they were to spend these notes at a merchant s store the marching could then decide to go to the bank and deposit the notes for the equivalent in gold or silver. It was such a great system that other countries decided to trust it and store their gold in US banks. In return they also got US dollars. Seems like a pretty solid monetary system right? • 27. Use Of Antibiotic Resistance For A Large Number Of Infections Maddie Ward Period 6 January 22, 2015 Transformation Lab Abstract: Ampicillin is a beta lactam antibiotic which can be used to treat a large number of infections. For example, Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria is terminated by this specific antibiotic. Ampicillin interferes with the formation of bacterial cell walls and thus kills newly dividing cells that must form new cell walls. Plasmids contain genes that create antibiotic resistance to their host cell. The pGlo plasmid contains an Ampicillin resistance gene. Therefore, bacteria that take up the plasmid and transform become resistant to Ampicillin. To carry out this experiment, my colleagues and I took four petri dishes containing the bacterial host cells (E. coli) on each and the Ampicillin on two of those four. Through a tedious process, we added the pGlo plasmid to one petri dish of just the host cell and one petri dish of the host cell and the Ampicillin antibiotic. When examining the results of our experiment, we noticed that both petri dishes containing zero Ampicillin entirely submerged in a lawn of the Escherichia coli bacteria, the petri dish containing no plasmid but some Ampicillin displayed zero growth, and the petri dish containing the plasmid and Ampicillin showed individual colonies of the E. coli bacteria glowing under a UV light. The reason this occurred is because the petri dishes that showed a lawn of bacteria contained no Ampicillin so there was no antibiotic to kill the bacteria off. The petri ... The Stop-Question and Frisk Program The black or white, either or and this or that misconceptions that are common in conversations with children seems to be arising over the Stop and Frisk Law in New York City. It has long been an issue of debate over whether it is a form of practicing racial profiling since its implementation. Arguments between advocates and critics of the law appear to be so incompatible that people are simply taking sides rather than trying to push the discussion forward. Frankly, supporters and protestors of the practice have established their opinions with incomplete information and lack of adequate critical reasoning. While those in favor have failed to admit to the apparent existence of racial profiling, those who are against the law only focus on racial profiling and do not participate in the broader discussion of whether or not it actually brings safety to the city. The conversation might be able to move forward if both sides were to emphasize on the most crucial issue of whether safety trumps civil rights. Colonists arrived on Roanoke Island in 1587, with the hopes of becoming the first English colony in America (Bernstein 2:55). The colony was to be governed by John White and was composed of English families who wished to make a new home for themselves, among the colonists was John White s daughter, Virginia Dare. • 32. Climate Change Is The Single Biggest Environmental And... Climate change is the single biggest environmental and humanitarian crisis of our time. Our Earth s temperature is climbing at an alarming rate. Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4°F over the past century, and is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F over the next hundred years. The planet is seeing the devastating effects of a warmer earth; warmer oceans, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels. As these and other changes become more pronounced in the coming decades, they will likely present challenges to our society and our environment. When the sun s radiation reaches our atmosphere, some is reflected back into space and some passes through and is absorbed by the Earth. This causes the surface of the Earth to warm up. Heat released from the Earth is radiated outward and absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This process prevents heat from disappearing into space and keeps Earth warm enough to sustain life. Some human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, intensify the warming effect by releasing additional greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Carbon dioxide is considered a relatively weak gas; however, so much of it is released that it has the largest impact on the enhanced greenhouse effect. We organize this review using the three theoretical links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1) current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. • 40. Karl Marx And The History Of Marxism Chapter 1: In this chapter I m going to explain a brief introduction to Karl Marx and the history of Marxism. Karl Marx, who was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist and revolutionary socialist created the theory of Marxism. Marx was born in Trier, Germany in 1818 and died in London in 1883. The social struggles in Marxs family were apparent before he was even born, ancestrally Jewish, he came from a long line rabbis on both sides of his family. His father, who was a lawyer converted to the Protestant denomination of Lutheranism, which was the predominant sect in Germany and Prussia at the time, in order to escape the constraints of Pre Nazi anti Semitic legislation. Marx started Trier High School in 1830, after having been home schooled by his father. The headmaster Hugo Wyttenbach, who was a friend of his fathers, employed many liberal humanists as teachers which the conservative government at the time strongly opposed leading to the police raiding the school in 1832, discovering literature supporting political liberalism had been distributed amongst the students. This being considered as such a heinous crime the authorities took it upon themselves to institute reforms and replaced several members of staff during Marx s attendance at the school. Marx attended the University of Bonn in 1835, aged 17, wanting to study philosophy; his father disagreed with this and believed that law would be a more appropriate field of study. • 41. The Limit Point Of Capitalist Equality In the pursuit of equality many different attempts have been made to obtain this quality including protests and laws or legal acts. However, no matter how many legal regulations are instituted, or protests are held, true equality has never been accessed, and will never be accessed until there are significant changes made to the ideology and mindset of the citizens of this country. Both Chris Chen and Christine Delphy who advocate for race and gender equality respectively, are two authors who believe that these radical changes must be made to create equality in society. They each give similar yet different ways to alter the mindset of modern society. In her essay Rethinking Sex and Gender, Delphy states that in order to truly gain equality among the sexes, we have to eliminate the idea of gender altogether. On the other hand, in his essay The Limit Point of Capitalist Equality, Chen argues that to eliminate racial inequality we need to change our mindset and stop defining race as physical or cultural qualities that distinguish us, or thinking of it as a noun, and start thinking of race as the institutional roadblocks put in front of people of color, or as a verb. Both of these alterations can seem very drastic at face value, and would in fact be undesirable to many. However, once some of the ideas of Chen and Delphy are superimposed upon one another, they illuminate how each one can be applied to, and work in society. Also once these ideas are used consecutively, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Criminal Copyright And Intellectual Property Laws Criminal copyright infringement can come in many forms. Anything that has been created by one s mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not something that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be. Many copyright cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their intellectual property has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the accused party to cease use of the material. While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize those who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have changed. This is partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of 1999 are all aimed at decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement and increasing penalties for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his article in 2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even more shifts in how copyrights are infringed upon. International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on copyrights and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some common ground among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes in the form of treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual property and enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. • 45. Personal Reflection On Deaf People My personal reflect on this film is that around the 1800 s it seemed that people didn t like deaf people. They were isolated from the others, and they also thought that they couldn t be taught, but in 1817 Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet opened the first deaf children school in America. Which was grate because they were going to be able to learn new things. The man named Alexander Graham Bell thought that a life without signing will be a better life. Bell also tried to keep deaf people apart from each other because he didn t want a big community of deaf people in the world. And that was unfair because hearing people wouldn t really be able to communicate with deaf people. Bell also thought that teaching the children to read lips and to speck would be much better. In fact around the late 1860 s oral schools opened which was pretty cool but it was unfair that they didn t want the children to sign, specially because that was their natural language. One thing that I thought was pretty cool was that the kids would make their own sign name, by seeing what your character was like and seeing how you were, then they will give you a sign name that sort of ties into you, something unique to you. Another thing that was unfair that deaf people had to go through was that in school they couldn t sign, they were suppose to lip read and use their quality of the speech. In my opinion that s not fair because it s like saying that we hearing people have to use sign to communicate. And we couldn t have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker Essay In its simplest form, a child is a product of a man and a woman but Alice Walker one of the foremost authors during the twentieth century, adds depth to her black American women by focusing on the role that race and gender played in their development. Family reunions can be times of great anticipation, excitement and happiness but for Dee, a young, beautiful, African American and our leading character, it was a reunion with underlying, unspoken tensions. Dee was Dee but Dee had changed; a new husband, nice clothes, and a college degree to boat. Maybe that college degree certificate could be farmed and hung on the wall replacing that old photo of George Washington Carver, out with the old and in with the new. Alice Walker is showing ... Walker s story is an evaluation of individuals who get the wrong idea about some of the ideals that black consciousness groups promoted during 1950s. A bit of realism is given in the story by some particular languages, specialized diction, and Mama s exclusive expressions. Walker gives Mama the right to narrate and control to convey the story and thoughts in their own way. For example, some particular language used by Dee s mother like butter churning and cheese making adds realism to the story. This makes the audience think that they are a poor farm family. The mother makes the languages her own (SparkNotes). For instance, she refers to her husband carving benches when the family could not effort instead of afford to buy chairs, and she describes the milk in the churn as crabber . Walker raises comedy as a way of improving the story s observations, such as in the weak comedy irritated by Mama s reaction to Dee s, and Hakim s difficult to pronounce names. Mama eventually gives up on Hakim a barber s name and secretly addresses him as what she thinks he sounds like: a barber. The history of these quilts is a history of the family. The quilts was most valuable to Mama and Maggie, they do not want to see the quilts as stuff to be hung on the wall and respected as folk art, but as the useful household items. Walker is ... • 47. Greek Architecture Essay Characteristics of Greek Architecture: INTRODUCTION: Instead of covering nearly every bit of space with ornament, as the Egyptians did, the Greeks selected only the best places for it, and thus gave it its proper effect. The decorations, especially the sculptures, were one of the chief features of a Greek temple. Besides their temples the Greeks built many theaters which may be studied from their ruins, but of their dwelling houses almost nothing remains to us. The Greek style is noted for the repose, harmony, and proportion of its effect. These are terms we might use in speaking of a painting, but they relate to the composition of a building which is, in many respects, similar to the composition of a picture. In selecting his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important of the Ionic temples left to us is the Erechtheum at Athens. It differs from other temples in its irregularity. This makes it doubly interesting for it shows that although the Greeks nearly always adhered to one simple form, they could dispense with it when they wished. In the Erechtheum, they wished to provide for several shrines in one building, and under one roof. The irregularity they have made so beautiful and interesting that it is a wonder they did not repeat the idea many times in other structures. Its two colonnades of different designs, its remarkable north doorway, and the famous caryatid porch to the south are unsurpassed. Another temple, that of Artemis (Diana) at Ephesus, was known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. THE GREEK CORINTHIAN ORDER: This is the most ornate of the classical orders, and the most slender in its proportions. The capital is shaped somewhat like a bell inverted, and is adorned with rows of acanthus leaves. A great example of the, third, or Corinthian order is the monument of Lysicrates at Athens. Straight is the line of duty. Curved is the line of beauty Follow the one and it shall be; The other shall always follow thee. For such reasons, Greek architecture was called Intellectual .
