Wind erosion is most effective in arid and semi-arid areas where there is little moisture or vegetation to bind the soil particles. Wind works to erode materials in two ways: deflation, where it blows particles away; and abrasion, where particles are rubbed together and against bedrock. This erosion can form various landforms such as longitudinal and transverse dunes, as well as deposits of loess soil.
