Support The Frightfully Hopeful Future of Technological Singularity Imagine. One day your
Doctor regretfully informs you the person you love the most in your life is tragically going pass
away due to an incurable disease. Instantly, overwhelming feelings of despair and anger burn
inside your chest while graphic scenes of funeral details and goodbyes flood your mind
eventually propelling you to the rhetorical question everyone asks, Is there anything we can do?
Then, The Doctor hands you a pamphlet saying, Have you ever heard of nanotechnology? This
Doctor is no Mad Scientist ; in fact, he is a highly trained professional that has saved several lives
with his proposition. What would you say? This small scale scenario is the perplexing situation the
human race will have to face in the near future. Although some would consider the merger of
technology and human biology a completely crack pot idea, It is this hasty decision of judgment
that explains our reaction to fear. This fear resonates with most of the population globally since it is
this very generation that has witnessed the exponential growthof technology. Physically,
psychologically and spiritually, technological singularitythreatens our future and shakes the
foundation of morality. However, does this change bring about negative or positive ramifications?
With Technological Singularity s future being so unpredictable, it would not be wise to ignore its
possibilities especially since it was the human race,

Examples Of Affordable Housing Problems In Vancouver
Affordable housing problem in Vancouver
Context
Vancouver is a major city in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The housing crisis has
plagued its residents, governments, organisations, and the community as a whole. The issues faced
by the city of Vancouver is not about having enough houses to accommodate residents, but primarily
around affordability. Around twenty percent of Canadian renters face a housing crisis, spending
more than half their income on shelter costs (McMahon, 2015). In 2010, different groups such as
lone parent households with children, couple parent households with children, senior led
households, and singles living alone spent 50 99% of their income on housing costs in Vancouver

Canada s affordable housing policy has supported Canadians in homeownership since the 1950s

A series of social housing programs, subsidies were introduced and funded by government
agencies. The responsibilities of the program was shared between distinct levels of government,
federal, provincial, and municipal (CEL CHRA, 2009). This collaboration was done at a nation
wide level to promote affordable housing among communities. According to CEL and CHRA
(2009), the status of funds towards affordable housing became uncertain as agreements between
governments were set to expire (p. 2). So the government agencies exhausted their resources while

Changes Within The Nursing Program
Changes in the Nursing Program
Even though Registered Nurses are in high demand, Victor Valley Community College instituted a
multi screening point assignment to really weed out applicants that are qualified for the program.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), more than 30,000
qualified applicants have been turned away from nursing education programs every year since
2002 . VVC offers an associate program, which would normally be two years long. With numerous
test implemented to make sure the student is able to follow through with the program, qualified
individuals are on the waiting list for years.
In 2007, Assembly Bill 1559 was signed; it required Community Colleges and University to initiate
a merit based system. The purpose of the bill was to train more nurses as the population of nurses
is disappearing by the aging population. In the 1990 s a disagreement aroused over merit based
Associate Degree Nursing programs. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education fund
threatened a lawsuit for the students of different ethnicities were being denied into the program
(Berryhill). After negotiations, the Board of Governors prohibited the nursing programs to use such
evaluative systems. The lottery and wait list were instituted and the completion rates dropped.
Community Colleges have high dropout rates and are turning away qualified applicants (Berryhill).
In 2008, VVC requirements to enter the program simply by completing your

Oya Song Analysis
Oya is the second track on Ibeyi s self titled debut album, preceded by a prayer to Eleggua, orisha of
the crossroads and the first to be saluted in all SanterГa ceremonies. The song s title is a reference
to an orisha of the same name, who is believed to be the guardian of the dead and the harbinger
of righteous change and destruction. Both sisters claim personal patronage from Oya, and in
Ibeyi fashion, the track sounds more like a ceremonial evocation than a radio friendly pop song.
The arrangement is sparse, consisting mostly of a looped acapella melody (Figure 1). To my
ears, the melody has a Gregorian air about it, imbuing the recording with a Westernized air of
mystery and spiritual reverence. The melody is occasionally accompanied by a deep, electronic
bass, which sounds like an animalistic growl one moment and a cheetah like roar in others.
Figure 1: Oya s underlying melody (Musescore) Much like the music, Oya s lyrics are also very
minimal. The verses showcase Lisa KaindГ© s voice, as she sings, Even if I feel the sun on my
skin everyday / If I don t feel you / Even if I see the most beautiful things up in the sky / If I don t
see you. Out the surface, such lyrics would invite accusations of pointless esotericism; however,
when considering Oya s dark and unpredictable nature, one can imagine Lisa KaindГ© (who wrote
the song after a breakup) penned the words as a reminder to herself that no matter how idyllic
things may be at the moment, sudden, and oftentimes

23, 2011 Abstract As being a Marketing manager looking for a job and getting ready for
interviews takes a big challenge also with trying to find out what is the best parts of the business
before you go for the interview. It is always good to find out about the business before you
interview for the job, so you can have some questions in mind to what you want to ask and put out
yourself some new marketing opportunities. In this further reading you will read about three

This marketing opportunity is organized as a homerun; I do strongly recommend the coloring
activities and puzzles for the kids more than I do with thee more leg room of taking out some
rows. Mainly I think so because the kid s ideas are less expensive and a better opportunity to be
more affordable than my first idea of taking out seats. Taking out seats and rows would make a
decrease in financial profit and South West airlines wouldn t make as much money as they did
before taking out the rows. So again the kid s activities are a best financial saving plan. This
idea would have a positive effect and reflect on the firm as having happier kids and parents, also
the person next to them. This marketing opportunity has no risk. Wal Mart Wal Mart has been
around for years and as a marketing manager I have been selected to be interviewed for a job and
be asked of three marketing opportunities to what I think could be helpful to Wal Mart in any
way of change. As looking at the Wal Mart website (2011) being updated every month already
has great low prices on clothes, accessories, shoes, food, and even electronics and jewelry (Wal

The Enlightenment Philosopher In The 1600 s
Every Enlightenment Philosopher in the 1600 s had different views on how a human being was
structured and how it worked, they had different beliefs and opinions that may or may not be true.
Thomas Hobbes believed that Humans are by nature free also equal in faculties of body and
mind and humans are just physical objects and our Human Nature was just like he stated The
natural state of man s life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short , according to Hobbes, human
beings are essentially selfish, we are not essentially good or ethical people because in Hobbes
opinion ethics come with politics and politics are the root of selfishness. Hobbes argued that the
essential natural right was to use his own power, as he will himself, for the preservation of his own
Nature.
The social contract based on Hobbes was that If you shut up and do as you are told, you have the
right not to be killed or even have the right to not to be killed, for no matter what the sovereign
does, it does not constitute violation of the contract. Hobbes advocated a Sovereign government

Tyr Research Paper
The God of Law and War
The god Tir, also known as Tiw, Tyr, Tiwaz and Mars is one that influenced many past cultures,
but not very well known today. In Norse mythology, Tyr was once a monotheistic god, worshiped
as the god of war, justice, law, and order. Some early Germanic peoples connected Tyr with Mars,
the Roman god of war. One influence is the third day of the week, known as dies Martis and Mars
Day in Latin, and also has become known as Tyrsdagr to the Norwegians and in the English
dictionary as Tuesday. The name Tyr is pronounced like the English word tier. This god is better
known for war, but he is also the one who presides over matters of law and justice, making the
world honest and honorable. One of the duties that was mentioned ... Show more content on

oxen to be slaughtered and Thor ate two before he was satisfied. The next Day Hymir was

The Importance Of Environmental Change On The Environment
Environmental change on the planet can be caused by different exercises. At the point when
environmental change happens; temperatures can expand a significantly. At the point when
temperature rises, a wide range of changes can happen on Earth. For instance, it can bring about
more surges, dry seasons, or extraordinary rain, and in addition more continuous and extreme
warmth waves. Seas and icy masses have additionally encountered a few changes: seas are
warming and ending up more acidic, ice sheets are dissolving, and ocean levels are rising. As these
progressions regularly happen in future decades, they will probably exhibit difficulties to our
general public and condition.
Amid the previous century, human exercises have discharged a lot of carbon dioxide and other
nursery gasses into the air. The vast majority of the gasses originate from consuming petroleum
derivatives to deliver vitality. Nursery gasses resemble a cover around the Earth, catching vitality in

Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
When put into an authoritative position over others, is it possible to claim that with this new
power individual(s) would be fair and ethical or could it be said that ones true colors would
show? A group of researchers, headed by Stanford University psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo,
designed and executed an unusual experiment that used a mock prison setting, with college
students role playing either as prisoners or guards to test the power of the social situation to
determine psychological effects and behavior (1971). The experiment simulated a real life
scenario of William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies showing a decay and failure of traditional
rules and morals; distracting exactly how people should behave toward one another. This... Show

To ensure to have satisfactory results in his study, Zimbardo required some preconditions. One
of which was the period of time for the experiment to be conducted. He believed that one to two
weeks would be essential in providing our research participants with sufficient time for them to
become fully engaged in their experimentally assigned roles of either guards or prisoners. Having
[our] participants live in that setting day and night, if prisoners, or work for long eight hour
shifts, if guards, would also allow sufficient time for situational norms to develop and patters of
social interaction to emerge, change and become crystallized (Zimbardo, 2013). Other
preconditions he had were the mentalities of his volunteers; are they normal, healthy mentally and
physically, are they without any prior history of conviction or drug usage? Some other
preconditions were to make the experimental setting bear a resemblance as closely to a functional
simulation of the psychology of imprisonment as humanly possible. He also wanted to make sure
that there was the absence of any earlier indoctrination in how to play the randomly assigned roles;
to leave that up to each participant s prior societal teachings of the meaning of prisons and the
behavioral scripts associated with the oppositional roles (Zambardo, 2005). Although he had a

Chillie Labrosse Analysis
The eighth story of Scott s Viger is titled Josephine Labrosse. From the outside, this story seems
to incite the most positive reaction. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he
provides Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit.
The scheming of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in
this case the union between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition
troubles the ending to the tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling
indirectly. Once provided with the lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the
song are as follows: It is in the town of Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three
pretty girls (137). This begins the tension initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a
reference to the three generations of women in Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are
perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My heart charmed her (138). The fact that the
song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that Josephine is the de facto mistress in the
song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative connotation; it implies the speaker s
possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern, because it can also be read is a
troubling lens. Even more, where did this chorus (75) appear from? The fact that this illusory

The Importance Of The San Jacinto Monument
Texas Artwork
As a proud Texas native, I want to discuss the San Jacinto Monument. It is built in the location of
where the final battler was fought for Texas to gain independence from Mexico. Without this battle,
the course of history and Texas would have been extremely different. The importance of this
monument is overlooked by people that are not from Texas.
The San Jacinto Monument is located in La Porte, Texas just west of Houston. The monument is
roughly 570 feet tall, and at the top of this massive monument is a 220 ton star. The Washington
Monument is roughly 554 feet tall. That makes the San Jacinto Monument almost 20 feet taller
than the Washington Monument. It took 3 years for the monument to be fully constructed and
completed before being dedicated on April 21, 1939. The star is a massive 34 feet tall, as a
symbol of something that Texas has always been known as The Lone Star State . The monument is
only 78 years old, making it still a fairly young Texas Monument.
The monument was designed by both Alfred C. Finn and Robert J. Cummins and cost about 1.5
million dollars to construct over the 3 years. They designed the monument to be built 570 feet tall
including the 34 feet tall star that sits on top of it. The monument is built as an octagon that has a
base used to hold a museum inside it. The museum holds several interesting letters and artifacts that
have been collected to help give inside perspective to the battles that led to the Battle of San Jacinto

The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development
One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone
of proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of
development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent
partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity
itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what
he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus
created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN
SOCIETY IN LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in
which a child benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s
cognitive abilities increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing,
but not too difficult for the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are
able to perform some of, but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more
capable, they are able to complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding
and learn new tasks while avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence.

What do astronomers think the universe was like the instant before the Big Bang? Astronomers
believe the whole universe started with that we re shrunk to a billionth of its normal size into a
place infinitesimally tiny. Then you must pack that minuscule space about an ounce of matter.
Then you are ready to start the universe. To imagine this you need to gather every last particle of
matter between this and the edge of creation and fir it into a spot so close together it really does
not posses any dimensions at all. This concept or idea is known as singularity. Outside of the
singularity there is no other place, because the universe was created from this singularity so before
this singularity there was no universe.
What do astronomers think happened in the universe in the few minutes after the Big Bang? In a
single moment the universe starts expanding exponentially. The singularity assumes dimensions,
space beyond conception. In less than a minute, the universe is so much more than a billion miles
across and still expanding. Now there is 10 billion degrees of heat which is enough to start the

Rida K Liamsi Poetry Analysis
Viva Maritime within Rida K Liamsi s Poetry
The notion of maritime is one of themes frequently brought up by a poet. Energetic enthusiasm in
facing life in maritime society has inspired poets to write a conception about maritime. This
research aims at analyzing maritime concept included within four poetry by Rida K Liamsi, namely
Laut, Tempuling, Pancang Nibung I, and Kemejan. Descriptive method is used in order to
explain maritime concept contained in those four poetry. The research result shows that those
four poetry raise about the rigorous of life obstacles inside maritime territory. These poetry are
yielded on the basis of Malay eagerness to live in a maritime zone. These Malays are depicted to
struggle with never give up spirit in confronting life cycle. Though in every fight results win and
failure, the Malay people never surrender to fate. Destiny does not impair their exertion in

Social Entrepreneurship And Its Impact On Society
Over the last few decades entrepreneurship has become the way many people have chosen to for
their career paths. There are different types of entrepreneurship but there is one in particular that
seem to be evolving in the world of business and it is social entrepreneurship. Social
entrepreneurship has allowed the opportunity for change, considering the ever changing economy
we live in today. Social entrepreneurship focuses on not for profit in order to create social value,
encourage socially responsible practices in current businesses and provides social solutions to
social problems. Social enterpriseis the tool that is used to create social values and meet the social
needs. Even though social entrepreneurship sounds like it is charity it is not because it combines
social and commercial goals and as a result, solves some of the social problems. Social
entrepreneurs take part in a procedure that involves consistent development, adoption and learning.
By having these segments, social entrepreneurs are able to work without being confined to assets.
Even though most cases of social entrepreneurship start out rather small, their drives have a huge
impact on the world s issues. Some of those examples include access to clean water, unemployment
rates, chronic sickness and disease and crime. This paper will address the social entrepreneurship
origin, characteristics and the contrast of social entrepreneurship in the United Statesversus other

Shackled by Celiac Disease As a tear slips down her cheek, five year old Addi continues with her
hair raising screams. For two nights now, she has had miserable abdominal pain. Clueless as to
why, her helpless mother tries to soothe her frazzled daughter. Switching her diet, checking her
stool, watching her closely, mom finds nothing out of the ordinary. So the question remains, what
is wrong? Why these sudden sleepless nights? After reading a medical website or paper, you
miraculously come to the conclusion that you have every disease listed. This can be terrifying. If
you are prone to this sort of deception, then this might not be the paper for you. On the other hand,
if you earnestly believe you might have celiac disease (CD), or are just curious as to what the
symptoms, diagnosing, and treatment are, then read on and enjoy. If celiac disease is not detected
soon after development, a higher risk for other autoimmune disorders increase. The greatest defense
against these complications is to know the symptoms and signs of celiac disease. As expected, CD
is filled with lots of unique symptoms, but the main ones include gastrointestinal issues, delayed
growth, and on certain occasions, depression. One of the most common symptoms of celiac disease
that bring patients to their doctor is constipation (Beyond Celiac). Constipation occurs when the
gastrointestinal track cannot properly digest the food. The creator of all these problems is the villi.

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock By T. S.
In the poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot, the reader is being taken along
with the main character, J. Alfred Prufrock, as he goes about his evening of life contemplation
and self evaluation. During the reading of this poem, one learns about Mr. Prufrock s character
and the current dilemma that he puts himself in. Mr. Prufrock is often seen throughout this
poem with a pessimistic view on his current situation in life, explaining how he s measured out
[his] life with coffee spoons; and how he s seen the moment of [his] greatness flicker, . With this
idea about himself he begins to point out his flaws that others seen in him such as his ...bald spot

life and himself, the speaker creates a very bleak attitude towards the way he currently lives and
this ultimately leaves him to a desire to change himself or, in his words, disturb the universe ....

Prufrock explains throughout the whole poem that he has a question to ask a woman and

Prufrock questions, Would it have been worth while / If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a
shawl, / And turning toward the window, should say: / That is not it at all, / That is not what I
meant, at all. Due to Prufrock s pessimistic attitude, he is afraid that his question will be due to
his misunderstanding and perversion of another s actions and, as a consequence, sour his life
even more. This leaves Prufrock in his own self made dilemma of continuing to live ... a pair of

The Traditional Architectural Style in the Early 19th...
In this essay I am aim to explore Pugin s dissent from tradition through his ideas, inspiration, and
his most important works and their meaning. To dissent from tradition is to defy a stultifying
tradition or convention, which leads to new, daring styles (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008,
p.109). The traditional architectural style in the early 19th Century, in Great Britain was
classicism, inspired by ancient Greece and associated with democracy as well as with the French
revolution (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p. 112). Pugin, called this classical style the new
square style (Figure 4.7, in Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.123) and argued that it lacked
authenticity of Great Britain (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.... Show more content on

Pugin found his inspiration while travelling to other European countries, particularly in Germany,
where the Roman Catholic Church was predominant. (LЕ±beck, St Chad s and Religious Art, 2009).
Building without teaching and explaining is almost useless , Pugin stated, to stress out the
importance of writing about architecture. In his written works, he strongly attacked the era or
Reformation and Protestantism saying that men must learn that the period hitherto called dark
and ignorant far excelled our age and wisdom ... (Pugin, 2003(1842) pp16 17, in Richardson,
McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.120) and looked down on the neo classicism of his time (Figure 4.7,
Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.123). In his book Contrasts ; he called the current classic
style a decay of taste . In the book, he used plates which contrasted the Middle Ages, 14th and 15th
Century, with 19th Century. In one example, he presented the Middle Age chapel in all its glory
and with a focus on the beautiful altar, while the 19th Century chapel looks more like a theatre and
as though it lacks the spiritual feel (Plate 2.4.7, Illustration book, p. 64). The former one highly
resembles the St. Chad s cathedral that Pugin designed later on in life (Introduction, St Chad s and
Religious Art, 2009). The two styles of chapels also meant different functioning while the central
plan of the Protestant Church put the preacher in the middle and surrounded with

Example Of Justifying A Value
1.)The first example of justifying a value is when getting my car detailed. I am looking at
market value, fair value and the utility factor for the services. This service satisfies the need and
desire for a clean car to take clients out with, after it was dirtied by a tough winter. I compared
prices for similar car detailing services, and asked around for referrals from several people. Of
the two companies, one was recommended strongly. I saw examples of each work and agreed with
the highly recommended company. In my opinion, the cost at the time was fair value and,
compared to other detailers, was market value. The prices were advertised for a year without any
price increase. The second example of justifying a value is when purchasing products from
Starbucks Coffee. There is a slight influence upon me through the desire of my teenage daughter
wanting to visit the coffee shop. With my effective purchasing power, and both our desire of a
drink/coffee/treat once and a while, we will go to Starbucks. It is true that Starbucks is a Going
Concern, and their prices are fair value compared to Timothies and Tim Hortons. I have joined
their rewards program, which enables me to occasionally receive free or discounted drinks, as well
as free refills. Starbucks, with the loyalty program, is an investment value to me.

Essay on The Pact
The Pact Assignment
I found it difficult to relate with the book, The Pact, for near the first half of the story. The three
boys, Rameck, Sam, and George all grew up in impoverished neighborhoods in New Jersey. They
were surrounded by drugs, violence, theft, prejudice, and death. None of the 3 had a father figure
within their home while growing up and discovered that it was extremely difficult to find any
positive role models within their area. As kids, Sam and Rameck both caved under the peer
pressure and became entangled in immoral activity. Rameck had even let adrenaline take over
during a fight and stabbed a man in the thigh with a switchblade. As a result he spent 4 days in jail,
some time on house arrest, and faced attempted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

With absolute astonishment, my parents, after 2 brief periods of separation and even acquiring
divorce papers, re discovered their love for one another and are now one of the happiest and most
secure couples I know. Even my sister and myself get along great now, often confiding in each
other with our personal issues.
In the Epilogue at the end of the book it clearly states, Friends don t have to be alike to be part of a
pact. The three of us all have distinct personalities that we bring to the mix, (pg. 250, The Pact). I
argue that, in the book they all seem to be the same type of person, Sam and Rameck more so
than George. I often became confused over who was telling the story and which experience was
who s. George had separated himself from the bad crowd, understanding the trouble it could get
him into. Sam and Rameck involved themselves in negativity early on and argue that it was
necessary. They had continually annoyed me for much of the early portions of the book. I have
always been my own person. I functioned separately from the crowd and formed my own opinions
and ideas.

If something like that can destroy a copper cable, imagine what could happen to a fiber cable,
which is made out of glass. Has anyone, such as the telephone company, been performing any
work in the building? This may seem like a strange question to ask, but it s my experience that
network problems often coincide with visits from the phone company. I ve had phone company
technicians cut cables, disconnect cables, and do just about anything else that you can imagine.
I won t pretend to understand the logic behind this behavior, but if you re having network
problems and someone tells you that someone was in the building doing phone or electrical
work yesterday, then you ve got a good place to start your troubleshooting. Has the cable been
stepped on, had a chair rolled over it, or suffered any other physical stress? It never fails to
amaze me what end users will admit to when you ask the right questions. If you ask a user in a
nonthreatening manner about any physical stress that the cable might have endured, they ll
usually tell you. Remember that most users have no idea that a fiber cable can be destroyed if

Compare And Contrast The Anglo Saxon Period And Present Day
Analyzing Yesterday s and Today s
The Anglo Saxon Period and Present Day
Travelling back in time to the period that is traditionally known as the dark ages; the time of war
and battles against the Vikings which was new invaders back then; the Anglo Saxon period has
many different aspects that are somehow unique to us. Such as how they have a different language
the Old English or how they greatly value the values of heroism, generosity and blood vengeance
which cannot be almost seen in the present time. There are many aspects that they have before, but
we will not focus on that. Instead, we will closely analyze the fact that by comparing it to the
present day, we can observe tremendous differences like how the power of woman was elevated
somehow today, the differences in our language, the Modern English to their language, Old
English, how the leader or the king should act before and even the dissimilarity in the social
hierarchy. But is the change in these aspects towards positivity? Or is it towards negativity? Are
we really improving as they say? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this current society, the levels of both male and female genders are somehow not even. Many
women are still fighting for the rights that they should have had but was chained to by society

divides us. Instead of having a united community, we are divided into the lower, middle and
higher class. In my opinion, I would like a nation that has a society that is equal, no elevated
positions in terms of money and possession or in other terms a society where no one fights for
money. But in the past periods specifically the Anglo Saxon period, women had it worst and even

Lack Of Rest-Time In Sports-Related Concussions
More than 300,000 sports related concussions occur per year. Most athletes recover from head
injuries, like concussions, if they take the time to properly manage the injury. Injured athletes
should be required to sit out for longer periods of time to allow time for the brain to heal
completely. The lack of rest time may lead to multiple concussions, permanent braindamage, and
loss of memory or focus. Athletes need rest time in order to get back on the field in the future.
Most athletes want to play their sport and take no time to rest. However, with a major injury like a

Analyzing The Cash Flow Statement
Analysing the cash flow statement would be a great place to first look when initially analysing a
company. It is difficult for a company to manipulate the cash flow statements resulting in a
honourable place to find the actual numbers. The cash flow statement is indicative of how well the
company can convert net income into cash; it also helps to determine if a company is strong or
weak. Panera realizes a positive net cash flowand is a strong company from their statements. To
receive a deeper analysis, the three sections of the cash flow statements, cash flows from
operations, cash flow from investing and cash flow from financing should be dissected. In the
first section of cash flows from operations (CFO), Panera has had a strong and positive growth in
cash flow from their operations from 2010 13 with a slight drop in 2104 due to the fact their net
income decreased in 2014. During all five years, Panera stands in a upright position as their CFO
is greater than net income. A ratio can be computed to see how high the quality of net income is
by adding net income with deprecation dividing by the CFO shows that outside of 2010, net
income proves to be of high quality. From the years 2011 2014 this ratio hovers around 90%,
while in 2010 this ratio falters to 75% due to a high level of cash generated in accrued expenses.
Although the net income remained high quality in 2014 it is concerning that figured dropped due
to an increase in expenses.

Plato once said that, Ignorance [is] the root and stem of all evil . Ignorance is the cause of
everything that is wrong and bad in the world since people are unable to see the truth. If people

Analysis Of The News Story
Brief summary of the news story
A recent study found that people with schizophrenia had a higher rate of dying from all common
causes including heart disease, cancer, respiratory failure, suicide and diabetes. While the disorder
itself does not cause earlier death, it is believed to lead to higher risk factor exposure, such as poor
eating or smoking and likely contributes to greater challenges dealing with other conditions such as
diabetes or CVD. Many people with schizophrenia also complain of their health concerns being
ignored or not taken seriously in light of their disorder, causing some health issues to progress
farther without detection than in the general population. 1

The news story has received moderate attention on Facebook and Twitter having been posted by at
least 10 different news and health related sources on both platforms, and getting many shares and
comments. Based on the comments, the general response to the story is anger and disappointment
that those with schizophrenia experience such a higher mortality rate and that there is still so little
done to address this inequality. Many people also expressed frustration that the subject of the
article is being presented as new and novel findings when they feel it has been an obvious issue for
many years.
What are some potential problems of reporting of epidemiological research in the news?
Common problems that arise when reporting epidemiological research are misinterpretation,
exaggeration of results and failure to address limitations. Results are often misinterpreted in news

Plant Pollination In Plants
Every biotic and abiotic factor has a reason to coexist with the world. We can only live through
balance. When we are missing a factor it throws our system out of place. There is no exception
with how plants reproduce. Like the food chain, pollination happens in a cycle, but instead of
what eats what. It s more of the steps on how a plant sends off its seeds. Plants go through a
process of fertilization to produce seedlings. Most plants can not fertilize on their own. Plants can
t just stand up and walk to find a suitable mate like us humans. This does not mean that plants are
not able to reproduce. They have a special way to get their pollenonto their own or other plant s
pistils. Plants trade with pollinators. Pollinators are anything that transfers pollen to pistols. For
example, bees are the most common but they are not the only pollinators. Bats are pollinators, so
are humans, even the wind is considered a pollinator. Pollinators can be a living thing or and natural
occurrence. Plants have two major parts of their anatomy structure for reproducing. The anther,
which is the male part that contains the pollen. And the pistils, the female part of the flower. The
goal is to get the pollen from the anthers to the pistol. Pollinators have tasked this job. Pollinators
visit plants for their own purposes, to collect nectar, which is a sugary substance that can be used
as food or to make honey, oil, or just to hang out. When a pollinator visits a

When I read Jeannette Walls literature regarding her cooking at such a young age, I was

boiling water that surrounded the hot dogs flaring up. She sensed the abnormally hot air in her
nose as she breathed in the warmness. Personally, I can t imagine being only three years old and

She must have also been in charge of walking the dog down the streets alone, or maybe in charge
of lighting bonfires. The responsibilities of this three year old are unheard of compared to today s
standards for raising a child. I would never, under any circumstances, let my three year old
daughter use a stove. A big reason for this is evident when the author says, I was still standing on
the chair, swatting at the fire with the fork I had been using to stir the hot dogs (Walls 5). First
of all, she was not taught the proper way to fight a fire. Instead of the stop drop and roll method
we were all taught, she swats at the fire with a fork in panic. By swatting at the fire, she hoped
the fork would damage the entity that surrounded her and put an end to the pain. She was feeling
the moisture from her skin being drawn out from her. She smelt her dress being burned right off

A smoky bar,a large concert hall or an open air festival are just a few of the places where one
imagines jazz to be performed. Bluesy, soulful, or very traditional, jazz comes in many guises
due to the players drawing from many influences. As music is a form of expression, it also seems
reasonable to hypothesise that life experiences will also colour their musical development. Imagine
now a jazz artist has just divorced is wife, how would this effect his compositions at that moment in

The American Dream is different for everyone, though it is most commonly associated with
success, freedom, and happiness. The concept of the American Dream seems to have dwindled
from where it was in the past few generations. It has gone from success, freedom, and happiness to
having lots of money and the nicest possessions. In today s society, we all hope and strive for this
dream, but how many actually achieve the American Dream? Is it a reasonable goal that Americans

Today, as well as back in the 1800 s when the story was written, most people s dreams are to
achieve success. This formally became known as The American Dream . Although this may
seem strange for everyone to have the same idea, it really isn t when you look at it with an open
perspective. Each and every person s perception of success is extremely different and individual,
which makes everyone s dreams different. There may be people who strive for big goals, and
there may be others who take it one day at a time, achieving happiness on a less formal level. In
comparing the time period of the story to our society today, there are many similarities and
differences to consider. According within the world we live today, people tend to set much higher
goals and expectations for themselves, whereas, in Ragged Dick, it was more of a day to day type
situation. When people set smaller, more realistic goals, it results in more happiness and comfort
in their lifestyle. However, in today s world, Americans have become so incredibly competitive

Louis Vuitton Case Study
Executive Summary: The global luxury goods marketplace in the past decade has experienced
nothing short of a complete evolution and transformation. This industry has endured global
economic downturns in advanced economies such as the United States requiring them to branch out
of their comfort zones and expand into emerging markets specifically the BRIC countries. These
Asian nations possess high GDP rates that are anticipated to increase significantly in the upcoming
years. Luxury goods were once a possession of strictly the wealthy, brand conscious consumer with
a high disposable income. Within these developing economies reside a new breed of young
entrepreneurs and noveau riche consumers , offering large potential within the... Show more content

Gray Markets LVMHhas found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or
resold through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more
than 40% more than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray
market where groups from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for
resale through parallel channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems
for LVMH. The first is the dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are
watered down due to the influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop
in margins for distributor (Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding
occurs when authorized distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a
product, such as presale service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This
reduction in services causes the customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon
the brand (Sloan). The third problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships.
Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money establishing relationships with their distribution
network. The result of gray markets is unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a
manufacturer s product and therefore could be very costly (Sloan).

Qualitative Research in Nursing
Qualitative Research
Introduction
Some of the integral components of nursing practice are commitment and patience, understanding
and trust, flexibility and openness. These, according to qualitative researchers, can be applied to
qualitative approaches. Many qualitative studies have in the recent past found their way into
medical and nursing press. This has helped in improving knowledge base on qualitative nursing
researches (Brookes, 2007). This term paper seeks to establish ways in which findings of qualitative
nursing research study influence the way care is provided in different work settings. The paper also
undertakes to highlight the reasons behind researchers resolve to conduct qualitative rather than
quantitative nursing research study.
Ways in which the findings of a qualitative nursing research study can be used to influence the way
care is provided in a given work setting Qualitative nursing research findings are very important in
decision making process in a working set up and at the national level. Qualitative researches ability
to analyze information conveyed through language and behavior in natural setting makes it ideal
for capturing expressive information pertaining to beliefs, values, feelings and motivation. In the
process one finds himself in a position to learn directly from the patients about what they consider
important. This is very crucial in identifying variables that are important for future clinical studies
(Berkwits Inui, 1998).

Resilience In The Workplace
The resiliency quiz and article suggest that resiliency is innate to most people. No matter the
challenges, we all have the capacity for resiliency building. As Social Workers we will encounter
individuals who may need assistance in recognizing, building and maintaining resilience. this
powerful self assessment tool does an effective job of highlighting areas of resilienceand resiliency
builders.
Reflection of Resiliency
Cultural structures, values can positively or negatively impact an individual s resilience. Research
supports that culture, ethnicity, and environment are major factors in the manifestation of
resilience in individuals and communities of color (Chang, Scott, Decker, 2009, p. 26).As
practitioners we must always be aware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The organization I work for is experiencing a tremendous and stressful transformation. It requires
that we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly
what is happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization
into another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?).
One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for
those that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our
rules as we were perceptive enough to realize that if we didn t there would be a whole community
of individuals that we would not serve. Encouraging flexibility in the workplace can be challenging
as individuals must be able to discern.
Resilience is the cornerstone of the Strength Based perspective. This tool can be used to re enforce
resiliency in the individuals we serve and is a excellent self assessment tool. I manage a group of
para professionals who provide telephonic support to individuals in recovery. I will share the
assessment tool with the group as a baseline tool for resiliency. This quiz can provide conversation
that encourages openness and enlightenment. I believe it will be immensely helpful. Times are
tough, high unemployment, decreased resources within our communities; international unrest are
just some of the stressors that challenge our resiliency. Positive reinforcement is not only welcome,
it is necessary

Art Is An Important Part Of Education
What is art? Is it just painting or can it be a number of creations, such as, music, dancing, theater,
pictures, sculptures, poems, stories, or videos. When I think of art, I think of all of these different
creations listed as art. Art is anything that can inspire a person, or create feelings from looking,
touching, or hearing. The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill
and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be
appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power (google.com). Art is a way for humans to
communicate what they feel in their hearts. Although, some people may not agree that art is an
important part of educationwithout it education could have been lost today. In the past ten years
that I know of, art has slowly been fading away in the educational environment. This can be any
subject from: theater, dance, band, and even just art classes in general. Our education has slowly
started to only focus on core academic classes. While some people in our education system may
not perceive this as a true fact; there is evidence to support that art has declined in public
education. For theater and dance in elementary schools, the percentages of schools making these
art forms available went from 20 percent 10 years ago to only 4 and 3 percent, respectively, in the
2009 10 schoolyear. In addition, at more than 40 percent of secondary schools, coursework in the
art was not

The Problem Of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and act as a result of being present
among others. At times, a direct contact is not required to fully influence a person. The imagined
or implied presence of others is sufficient to carry out a full effect on another person. Examples to
portray how the impact of others can have an authority over the way we function socially can be
found almost anywhere around us. The media is filled with many examples from recent headlines
that may offer an illustration of this phenomenon. In recent news, the National Public Radio (NPR),
a non profit membership media organization, aired an interview discussing Syrias bloody civil war.
With more than four million people who have fled the country thus far, it has easily been named
one of the worst refugeesituations in history. Millions more have also been displaced within
Syria. Although we rarely hear from the people inside, NPR was able to air an interview it
conducted with one of the citizens who lives in the broken country. Saeed al Batal, a
photographer and filmmaker who did not use his real name for security reasons, reveals how
horrific the experiences currently are in Syria. In this paper, the transcript of the interview will be
used portray how, even when situations are clearly appalling and catastrophic, the presence of
others effects people s contributions and willingness to help. It will also be used to psychologically
understand why people help, why people do not, when

Family Values In The Poisonwood Bible
Today, all around the world people express their different and unique cultures everyday. If we
were to go halfway around the world things that would seem weird to us would be normal to
them. What makes people so quick to judge others when they have different ways of life than us?
In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolveran American family travels from
Georgia to the Congo, and they have one goal in mind. Their goal is to spread the word of God,
their baptist beliefs, and American values to the locals. However, the family fails to see that the
Congolese people are not in need of a change of faith and lifestyle. The family is thrown into a
difficult lifestyle in the Congo with many challenging obstacles that change some of the family
members views and values. With the exception of the father, Nathan. In The Poisonwood Biblethe
values and cultureof both the American family and the Congolese people help shape the theme of
America s over reach in third world countries and the destruction it creates. Americans have
always had a sense of pride and superiority over other cultures and societies. During the 1950s,
the time when the novel starts to take place, Americans were especially prideful. There was a
new age of home technology and Nathan price was determined to keep his family s faith in
check. Nathan Price feels like he is sort of a god figure and the people who live in Africa are less
then him. It is described in the novel that the Congolese

One day your Doctor regretfully informs you the person you love the most in your life is tragically going pass away due to an incurable disease. Instantly, overwhelming feelings of despair and anger burn inside your chest while graphic scenes of funeral details and goodbyes flood your mind eventually propelling you to the rhetorical question everyone asks, Is there anything we can do? Then, The Doctor hands you a pamphlet saying, Have you ever heard of nanotechnology? This Doctor is no Mad Scientist ; in fact, he is a highly trained professional that has saved several lives with his proposition. What would you say? This small scale scenario is the perplexing situation the human race will have to face in the near future. Although some would consider the merger of technology and human biology a completely crack pot idea, It is this hasty decision of judgment that explains our reaction to fear. This fear resonates with most of the population globally since it is this very generation that has witnessed the exponential growthof technology. Physically, psychologically and spiritually, technological singularitythreatens our future and shakes the foundation of morality. However, does this change bring about negative or positive ramifications? With Technological Singularity s future being so unpredictable, it would not be wise to ignore its possibilities especially since it was the human race, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Oya Song Analysis Oya is the second track on Ibeyi s self titled debut album, preceded by a prayer to Eleggua, orisha of the crossroads and the first to be saluted in all SanterГa ceremonies. The song s title is a reference to an orisha of the same name, who is believed to be the guardian of the dead and the harbinger of righteous change and destruction. Both sisters claim personal patronage from Oya, and in Ibeyi fashion, the track sounds more like a ceremonial evocation than a radio friendly pop song. The arrangement is sparse, consisting mostly of a looped acapella melody (Figure 1). To my ears, the melody has a Gregorian air about it, imbuing the recording with a Westernized air of mystery and spiritual reverence. The melody is occasionally accompanied by a deep, electronic bass, which sounds like an animalistic growl one moment and a cheetah like roar in others. Figure 1: Oya s underlying melody (Musescore) Much like the music, Oya s lyrics are also very minimal. The verses showcase Lisa KaindГ© s voice, as she sings, Even if I feel the sun on my skin everyday / If I don t feel you / Even if I see the most beautiful things up in the sky / If I don t see you. Out the surface, such lyrics would invite accusations of pointless esotericism; however, when considering Oya s dark and unpredictable nature, one can imagine Lisa KaindГ© (who wrote the song after a breakup) penned the words as a reminder to herself that no matter how idyllic things may be at the moment, sudden, and oftentimes ... One of which was the period of time for the experiment to be conducted. Having [our] participants live in that setting day and night, if prisoners, or work for long eight hour shifts, if guards, would also allow sufficient time for situational norms to develop and patters of social interaction to emerge, change and become crystallized (Zimbardo, 2013). Some other preconditions were to make the experimental setting bear a resemblance as closely to a functional simulation of the psychology of imprisonment as humanly possible. He also wanted to make sure that there was the absence of any earlier indoctrination in how to play the randomly assigned roles; to leave that up to each participant s prior societal teachings of the meaning of prisons and the behavioral scripts associated with the oppositional roles (Zambardo, 2005). • 14. Chillie Labrosse Analysis The eighth story of Scott s Viger is titled Josephine Labrosse. From the outside, this story seems to incite the most positive reaction. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he provides Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit. The scheming of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in this case the union between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition troubles the ending to the tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling indirectly. Once provided with the lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the song are as follows: It is in the town of Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three pretty girls (137). This begins the tension initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a reference to the three generations of women in Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My heart charmed her (138). The fact that the song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that Josephine is the de facto mistress in the song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative connotation; it implies the speaker s possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern, because it can also be read is a troubling lens. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). This is because ...children s cognitive abilities increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing, but not too difficult for the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Astronomers believe the whole universe started with that we re shrunk to a billionth of its normal size into a place infinitesimally tiny. Then you must pack that minuscule space about an ounce of matter. Then you are ready to start the universe. To imagine this you need to gather every last particle of matter between this and the edge of creation and fir it into a spot so close together it really does not posses any dimensions at all. This concept or idea is known as singularity. Outside of the singularity there is no other place, because the universe was created from this singularity so before this singularity there was no universe. • 24. The Traditional Architectural Style in the Early 19th... In this essay I am aim to explore Pugin s dissent from tradition through his ideas, inspiration, and his most important works and their meaning. To dissent from tradition is to defy a stultifying tradition or convention, which leads to new, daring styles (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.109). The traditional architectural style in the early 19th Century, in Great Britain was classicism, inspired by ancient Greece and associated with democracy as well as with the French revolution (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p. 112). Pugin, called this classical style the new square style (Figure 4.7, in Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.123) and argued that it lacked authenticity of Great Britain (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.... (LЕ±beck, St Chad s and Religious Art, 2009). Building without teaching and explaining is almost useless , Pugin stated, to stress out the importance of writing about architecture. In his written works, he strongly attacked the era or Reformation and Protestantism saying that men must learn that the period hitherto called dark and ignorant far excelled our age and wisdom ... In his book Contrasts ; he called the current classic style a decay of taste . In the book, he used plates which contrasted the Middle Ages, 14th and 15th Century, with 19th Century. In one example, he presented the Middle Age chapel in all its glory and with a focus on the beautiful altar, while the 19th Century chapel looks more like a theatre and as though it lacks the spiritual feel (Plate 2.4.7, Illustration book, p. 64). The former one highly resembles the St. Chad s cathedral that Pugin designed later on in life (Introduction, St Chad s and Religious Art, 2009). The two styles of chapels also meant different functioning while the central plan of the Protestant Church put the preacher in the middle and surrounded with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Example Of Justifying A Value 1.)The first example of justifying a value is when getting my car detailed. I am looking at market value, fair value and the utility factor for the services. This service satisfies the need and desire for a clean car to take clients out with, after it was dirtied by a tough winter. I compared prices for similar car detailing services, and asked around for referrals from several people. Of the two companies, one was recommended strongly. I saw examples of each work and agreed with the highly recommended company. In my opinion, the cost at the time was fair value and, compared to other detailers, was market value. The prices were advertised for a year without any price increase. The second example of justifying a value is when purchasing products from Starbucks Coffee. There is a slight influence upon me through the desire of my teenage daughter wanting to visit the coffee shop. With my effective purchasing power, and both our desire of a drink/coffee/treat once and a while, we will go to Starbucks. It is true that Starbucks is a Going Concern, and their prices are fair value compared to Timothies and Tim Hortons. I have joined their rewards program, which enables me to occasionally receive free or discounted drinks, as well as free refills. The three boys, Rameck, Sam, and George all grew up in impoverished neighborhoods in New Jersey. They were surrounded by drugs, violence, theft, prejudice, and death. None of the 3 had a father figure within their home while growing up and discovered that it was extremely difficult to find any positive role models within their area. As kids, Sam and Rameck both caved under the peer pressure and became entangled in immoral activity. In the Epilogue at the end of the book it clearly states, Friends don t have to be alike to be part of a pact. To receive a deeper analysis, the three sections of the cash flow statements, cash flows from operations, cash flow from investing and cash flow from financing should be dissected. In the first section of cash flows from operations (CFO), Panera has had a strong and positive growth in cash flow from their operations from 2010 13 with a slight drop in 2104 due to the fact their net income decreased in 2014. • 36. Plant Pollination In Plants Every biotic and abiotic factor has a reason to coexist with the world. We can only live through balance. When we are missing a factor it throws our system out of place. There is no exception with how plants reproduce. Like the food chain, pollination happens in a cycle, but instead of what eats what. It s more of the steps on how a plant sends off its seeds. Plants go through a process of fertilization to produce seedlings. Most plants can not fertilize on their own. Plants can t just stand up and walk to find a suitable mate like us humans. This does not mean that plants are not able to reproduce. They have a special way to get their pollenonto their own or other plant s pistils. Plants trade with pollinators. Pollinators are anything that transfers pollen to pistols. For example, bees are the most common but they are not the only pollinators. Bats are pollinators, so are humans, even the wind is considered a pollinator. Pollinators can be a living thing or and natural occurrence. Plants have two major parts of their anatomy structure for reproducing. The anther, which is the male part that contains the pollen. And the pistils, the female part of the flower. The goal is to get the pollen from the anthers to the pistol. Pollinators have tasked this job. Pollinators visit plants for their own purposes, to collect nectar, which is a sugary substance that can be used as food or to make honey, oil, or just to hang out. When a pollinator visits a ... Gray Markets LVMHhas found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or resold through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more than 40% more than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray market where groups from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for resale through parallel channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems for LVMH. The first is the dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are watered down due to the influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop in margins for distributor (Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding occurs when authorized distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a product, such as presale service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This reduction in services causes the customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon the brand (Sloan). The third problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money establishing relationships with their distribution network. The result of gray markets is unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a manufacturer s product and therefore could be very costly (Sloan). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The paper also undertakes to highlight the reasons behind researchers resolve to conduct qualitative rather than quantitative nursing research study. Ways in which the findings of a qualitative nursing research study can be used to influence the way care is provided in a given work setting Qualitative nursing research findings are very important in decision making process in a working set up and at the national level. Qualitative researches ability to analyze information conveyed through language and behavior in natural setting makes it ideal for capturing expressive information pertaining to beliefs, values, feelings and motivation. In the process one finds himself in a position to learn directly from the patients about what they consider important. This is very crucial in identifying variables that are important for future clinical studies (Berkwits Inui, 1998). An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Resilience In The Workplace The resiliency quiz and article suggest that resiliency is innate to most people. No matter the challenges, we all have the capacity for resiliency building. As Social Workers we will encounter individuals who may need assistance in recognizing, building and maintaining resilience. this powerful self assessment tool does an effective job of highlighting areas of resilienceand resiliency builders. Reflection of Resiliency Cultural structures, values can positively or negatively impact an individual s resilience. Research supports that culture, ethnicity, and environment are major factors in the manifestation of resilience in individuals and communities of color (Chang, Scott, Decker, 2009, p. 26).As practitioners we must always be aware ... It requires that we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly what is happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization into another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?). One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for those that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our rules as we were perceptive enough to realize that if we didn t there would be a whole community of individuals that we would not serve. Encouraging flexibility in the workplace can be challenging as individuals must be able to discern. Resilience is the cornerstone of the Strength Based perspective. This tool can be used to re enforce resiliency in the individuals we serve and is a excellent self assessment tool. I manage a group of para professionals who provide telephonic support to individuals in recovery. I will share the assessment tool with the group as a baseline tool for resiliency. This quiz can provide conversation that encourages openness and enlightenment. I believe it will be immensely helpful. Times are tough, high unemployment, decreased resources within our communities; international unrest are just some of the stressors that challenge our resiliency. Positive reinforcement is not only welcome, it is necessary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Art Is An Important Part Of Education What is art? Is it just painting or can it be a number of creations, such as, music, dancing, theater, pictures, sculptures, poems, stories, or videos. When I think of art, I think of all of these different creations listed as art. Art is anything that can inspire a person, or create feelings from looking, touching, or hearing. The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power (google.com). Art is a way for humans to communicate what they feel in their hearts. Although, some people may not agree that art is an important part of educationwithout it education could have been lost today. In the past ten years that I know of, art has slowly been fading away in the educational environment. This can be any subject from: theater, dance, band, and even just art classes in general. Our education has slowly started to only focus on core academic classes. While some people in our education system may not perceive this as a true fact; there is evidence to support that art has declined in public education. For theater and dance in elementary schools, the percentages of schools making these art forms available went from 20 percent 10 years ago to only 4 and 3 percent, respectively, in the 2009 10 schoolyear. In addition, at more than 40 percent of secondary schools, coursework in the art was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Problem Of Social Psychology Social psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and act as a result of being present among others. At times, a direct contact is not required to fully influence a person. The imagined or implied presence of others is sufficient to carry out a full effect on another person. Examples to portray how the impact of others can have an authority over the way we function socially can be found almost anywhere around us. The media is filled with many examples from recent headlines that may offer an illustration of this phenomenon. In recent news, the National Public Radio (NPR), a non profit membership media organization, aired an interview discussing Syrias bloody civil war. With more than four million people who have fled the country thus far, it has easily been named one of the worst refugeesituations in history. Millions more have also been displaced within Syria. Although we rarely hear from the people inside, NPR was able to air an interview it conducted with one of the citizens who lives in the broken country. Saeed al Batal, a photographer and filmmaker who did not use his real name for security reasons, reveals how horrific the experiences currently are in Syria. In this paper, the transcript of the interview will be used portray how, even when situations are clearly appalling and catastrophic, the presence of others effects people s contributions and willingness to help. It will also be used to psychologically understand why people help, why people do not, when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
