This document argues that a CMMI-5 approach is needed for BI development processes due to the inherent complexity of BI. It outlines how BI development is more complex than transactional systems due to factors like ETL processes and long-term querying of integrated data. A CMMI-5 approach provides the formal feedback and process optimization required to effectively manage a complex, iterative BI development process consisting of short cycles and an emphasis on customer feedback. Adopting modern Agile practices can help make achieving CMMI-5 more practical for BI teams.
