Experiment 1: Separation of a Carboxylic acid, phenol and a neutral compound by Extraction
Abstract:
Extraction involves dissolving one or more compounds from a solid to a solvent or from a solution
into another solvent. Extraction can be used to isolate an organic compound from a mixture or
solution. The most common solvent used is 1 mthoxy 2 metylpropane and water. Extraction requires
you to mix the solvent in a substance that is more soluble than the solvent which forms two layers
when mixed in which you can extract one layer.
Introduction:
Carboxylic acid and phenol are families of two different organic compounds when reacted with water
yield an excess of hydronium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Table 2: The melting points of the compounds.
Compound Melting Point (Experimental) Melting Point Actual
Carboxylic Acid 120° 122°
Phenol 102° 104°
Biphenyl 150° 156°
Discussion:
Table 1 shows that all of the compounds were soluble in an ether solution but were insoluble in water.
The reason that these compounds were soluble in ether was because it was ionized while water being a
poor solvent had to be ionized with ionic compounds for the mixture to become more soluble. Phenol
was ionized with the addition of NaOH and since it was ionized water was added to allow the phenol
to dissolve in water. Table 2 shows the actual melting point of each compound and the melting points
we experimentally got for each compound. The variation in these numbers could be a result of
contamination or human error. The reason could have been that the solutions were not mixed well or
may have been contaminated. It may also be the fact that when adding liquid we may have been
precise with the pipette or may not have properly discarded the solution.

Julius Caesar Social Classes Essay
Proletariats have been looked down upon as lesser by every social class in history, even by themselves
and each social class above them is named inadequate and inferior by the ones above them. In
Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, high contrast is shown between the representation of the bourgeois and
the working classes. Criticism of higher social classes is subtle enough to go unnoticed by the nobility
and Queen Elizabeth, yet powerful enough that the majority of Shakespeare s audience would
understand and relate to it. When together, the plebeians also take on a mob mentality. In scene one of
act one, Flavius is angry about the commoners immediately shifting their admiration from Pompey to
Caesar; they all agree and cheer when Caesar is to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of seeing them as godlike and flawless, they re represented on a personal level, despite their
status. Brutus is willing to help Cassius if it be aught toward the general good, (1.2.87). The general
good is likely not referring to the general population of Rome, but the general good of those he and
Cassius deem important, meaning just the other senators. This shows Brutus lack of consideration for
the plebeians of Rome. Brutus temperament and behaviors are also exposed, as the audience finds out
he is indecisive and hypocritical, particularly on the matter of Cato s suicide. Cassius is also shown to
be a manipulative liar, after audience realise he was most likely lying about Caesar being sick in
Spain. Cassius and the other senators believe they are better than the commoners. When Brutus
accuses Cassius of leading him into danger of the conspiracy, Cassius says if he were a common
laugher, then hold me dangerous (1.2.74,80). Cassius believes the commoners are all foolish or stupid
and can t be trusted with important decisions. The upper class characters are shown in the way
Shakespeare sees them, which is corrupt and

ADHD And Odd Case Study
The main focus of the field placement was on student behaviour in the classroom and how students
with disabilities may cause distractions to the class for several reasons. Evidently, the relationship
between ADHD and ODD contribute to a student s inability to be on task and demonstrate antisocial
behaviour (Matthys and Lochman, 2017, p.3; Hamilton and Armando, p.864). The implications of
ODD on the student s education are significant due to the student s reaction to positive behavioural
management techniques may be met with uncertainty and destructiveness (NDCO, 2010, p.12). In
addition, the students are examined to be argumentative and defiant , they may also deliberately annoy
others and portray sudden unprovoked anger (NDCO, 2010, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, Marcus is increasingly aggressive towards figures that are regarded as authoritarian and a
student that pertains both disorders tend to be more aggressive and have more persistent behavioral
problems (Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863). As a result, students that possess both disorders tend
to be isolated from their peers and are severely disadvantaged in their academic achievements
(Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863).
In an attempt to alleviate symptoms of ADHD and ODD, students that have these disorders are treated
with drugs that contain Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) and the most popular known clinical
drug that contains LDX is Vyvanse® (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1064). Although this drug is shown to be
effective in suppressing student s aggression and disobedience in the classroom, their negative side
effects can impede on providing inclusive education due to loss of focus as a result of anorexia,
insomnia, nausea and exacerbation of motor tics (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1065). The medicine is
regarded as highly effective for students with ADHD and ODD disorders and is durable for over 12
hours (Roweley et al., 2012, p.1065). Consequently, the use of this medication is still negative as it
can create discomfort for the student that is taking LDX. The effects of LDX in motor tics are evident
as Marcus demonstrates the uncontrollable muscle spasms during lessons. Additionally, the

Louis Pasteur And Its Effects On Humans
Louis Pasteur made very important contributions to science. He figured out that microorganism scaled
microbes made alcohol and milk go sour. Before his discovery, there was no way to stop beverages
from going bad. Drinking spoiled drinks can have very negative effects on humans. Louis created a
process that destroys the microbes inside of liquids. To do this, you must heat up a liquid to a high
temperature for a short amount of time. He named this revolutionary process pasteurization. In
addition to is amazing achievement, Louis created vaccines for rabies and anthrax.
Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822. He was born in Dole, France. Louis grew up in a town
called Arbois with his father, Jean Joseph Pasteur. Louis father had a ... Show more content on

This is where Louis met his wife, Marie Laurent. Louis married Marie on May 29 in the year 1849.
Marie and Louis had five children. Sadly, only two of these children survived their childhood.
After managing to cope with the death of two of his children, Louis Pasteur was made a professor at
the University of Lille. It was at this university, that Louis tried to find a solution to the problem
manufacturers of alcohol faced at that time. Louis Pasteur, of course, did not invent Germ Theory. He
did however, further develop the theory, and convinced the majority of Europe that this theory is true.
After showing how microorganism affected drinks such as alcohol and milk, Louis then created a
process that was capable of destroying these organisms that put humans in danger. He figured out that
this could be accomplished by boiling, and then cooling a liquid. Louis performed this for the first
time on April 20 in 1862. We later named this process pasteurization, after its inventor.
Louis s knowledge of how microorganisms forms helped him later in life. By using what he knew
about microbes, Pasteur saved the silk industry. Pasteur proved to silk manufacturers that microbes
were responsible for the silk shortage. The microbes were attacking silkworm eggs. By doing this, the
silkworms caught a disease. Louis realized that if the microbes were killed, the disease would cease to
exist. And of course, Louis s hypothesis was correct, and by

How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For...
Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What
inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for
Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced
home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that the writer
answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his
findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough
alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information
needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and
hope to show why.
In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl
Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents
that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that children s
sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article Zinsmeister
uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long Term effects of
Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his
opinions and back them by research.

Montana 1948 Abusing Power
Montana 1948 by Larry Watson is a novel set during the time of post Second World War in the rural
town of Bentrock located in Mercer County, Montana USA. There are a series of events that occur
which demonstrate how abusing power can result in catastrophic consequences which affect both
individuals and communities. Characters Frank, Julian, Wes, and the whole white community abused
their capabilities which resulted in negative outcomes. Local doctor Frank Hayden is one of the many
people in the Bentrock community to overstep his power and mistreat it. By sexually abusing a
debilitated minority Sioux women he was able to commit his crimes under a cover of fear, social
status, and common racial prejudice. However, when Gail tells Wes ... Show more content on

Wes has carried out traits that past sheriff and father has enforced. This includes obvious and casual
racism and also the importance to family loyalty. What makes Julian and Wes different is that Wes
learns that justice is more important in a society than loyalty. By believing in this, his abuse of power
has had lesser consequences but they are still significant in the novel. Wes is responsible for the Frank
s arrest which later on caused severe family tension. But the important consequence is that Wes didn t
going to treat his brother the same as any other criminal that he d pass in his job. Instead of jailing
Frank in the town jail, Wes finds his own basement as the most suitable option. In practicality,
prisoning Frank in a basement is not the best or safest option, especially for the people who live above
that basement. If Wes fully lived by his responsibilities and promise to justice, he would have arrested
Frank in the professional matter he does with anyone else under arrest. This may be a small mistreat of
power, but it s an important one that affects Wes

The Literature On Pay For Play
A Review of the Literature on Pay for Play in College Athletics by Sara J. Singleton
EDU 7253 Legal Environment of Higher Education
May 28, 2015
Abstract
Because of recent court cases such as O Bannon v. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA),
the issue of whether intercollegiate student athletes should be compensated for their athletic
appearances on behalf of colleges has been featured in the news and been the subject of much
scholarly writing. This literature review will focus on the major themes discussed in peer reviewed
journals and law reviews as well as the main judicial opinions on this issue to this point. As colleges
and the NCAA continue to battle over the appropriate role of profit and amateurism ... Show more

Other themes that are pro compensation include redefining amateurism and worker s compensation
and liability issues. The fourth stream of literature focuses on various reasons that intercollegiate
athletes should not be paid to play, mostly viewpoints that consider the use of the Sherman Act within
intercollegiate athletics to be judicial overreach.
The Sherman Antitrust Act
Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, in part, states that every contract, combination... or conspiracy,
in the restraint of trade or commerce... is declared to be illegal. (Sherman Act, 2006). This law
provides a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at preserving free and unfettered
competition as the rule of trade (Northern Pacific Railway Company vs. United States, 1958; Reiter
vs. Sonotone Corporation, 1979). It relies on a fundamental belief in supply and demand (Baum
Research Development Company vs. Hillerich Bradsby, 1998). There are two main ways by which a
plaintiff could challenge the NCAA s no pay rules under Section 1 of the Sherman Act. First, the
plaintiff could argue that the no pay regulations signify a type of wage fixing that damages not only
the market for the student athletes skills but also the value of college sports as a whole. Second, the
plaintiff could argue that the NCAA rules create an unlawful group prohibition of those

The Culture Of America
The culture of America is marked by diversity and is constantly changing as a result of such diversity.
The question posed is, does the recent presidential election indicate a white, racist culture? The culture
of the U.S. has been, from its inception, white; our founding fathers were white. It has taken the U.S.
hundreds of years with many conflicts along the way, to start to give value to other cultures. Looking
back eight years ago to the election then; the approximate percentage of whites in the U.S. was 62.6%
(Wikipedia, 2017) and Obama was elected to presidency in 2008 and again in 2012. The ratio of white
Americans has not changed substantially and, if anything, has only decreased since then. In 2012, the
Census Bureau announced that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has only been three months since his inauguration, but rest assured, it will. History and culture go
hand in hand. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it Sir Winston Churchill. This
saying in history is to remember that the same mistakes are not made over and over again. America is
based on individuality and that makes a homogenous culture hard. Different beliefs, different cultures,
different ethnicities, that s what once made America great in it s infancy and will do so again.
Different beliefs are what weld us together to produce a culture not seen in the rest of the world. When
Obama was elected, what were cultural anthropologists surmising then? Did they project the end of
racial tensions between whites and blacks? Yes, they were predicting a more harmonious culture.
However, that s not what happened; research indicates that racial tensions increased throughout the
Presidency of Obama. Curious? If your contention is that the election of Trump will increase white
racial supremacy, then maybe you are correct. Having a black president sure did not ensure
harmonious racial interchanges. Culture will change, however, slowly. Culture, like Rome, was not
built in a day. Young African Americans saw a black man in office and maybe that influenced quite a
few children of color to try harder, to excel, to be something more than what society dictated to them
so far.

Diels-Alder Reaction Lab Report
This week in lab a Diels Alder reaction produced 4 cyclohexene 1, 2 dicarboxylic anhydride by
combining 1,3 butadiene and maleic anhydride. They reaction basically combined 4 pi electrons from
a diene and 2 pi elections from a double bond to produce an alkene ring. The diene must be in s cis
conformation for the reaction to even happen. All of the p orbitals, both from the diene and the double
bond must line up so it can attack from top or bottom, which creates a chair structure. Because of this,
the trans conformation is favored due to the lesser steric interactions. As for the 2,3 difluorobutadiene
and 1,3 butadiene, the rate of the reaction would be slower. The 1,3 butadiene is unstable, which
makes it extremely reactive. The use of the

Person who runs the business and person who assists and works for that person experience different
emotions and work to do, but both of these jobs have their own cons and pros. Person who assists to

businessman cares about the whole organization, including staff, all the property, wages of his

INTRODUCTION
With online reading growing ever more popular, people no longer depend on bookstores as the only
source of reads. As technological advances are being developed every day, books are now being
viewed and shared online. Nowadays, reading and gathering information has become more easily
accessible and free of charge.
Years ago, reading and writing novels and stories are only limited to the bookstores, the publishing
houses and the professional writers, but the popularity of the World Wide Web s easy access and
widespread information led the business of literature to open up to young, aspiring writers and avid
readers which resulted to the emergence and development of websites such as www.fanfiction.net,

What makes Wattpad a social media platform is that users do not simply create stories for people to
read users can also interact with fellow content creators and comment on their works. And unlike other
online writing communities which have a more professional atmosphere especially for freelance
writers, Wattpad is designed in a way that gives them freedom to express their stories in whatever way
and language they want.
Language is the most basic tool in human communication. It s a reflection of a society s culture.
People use language to express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions. A more accurate definition of
language from Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (2014):

Child Atrocities
GONE are the days when children were considered as gifts from God and women were revered as
mothers and sisters. Now girl children have sadly become lucrative business options for many in India

The alarming rise in the number of child rape cases is a pointer in that direction. Children as young as
4 years are being raped and brutally killed and the convicts walk free for want of evidence or
exploiting the shoddy rape laws.
As many as 174 cases of rape of the minor girls were registered with the police during the six month
period from January to June 2011, according to figures released by the state police. The number is

The True Meaning Of Love In Love With My Best Friend
Whenever I was a junior in high school, I fell completely in love with my best friend. I know this
sounds cliche, but this experience lead to many lessons. I did not realize another human being could
have such an impact on my life. Love is crazy because it is unexpected and smacks you right in the
face. I did not realize this person would be my every thing for the next two years. I did not realize all
the lessons I learned and growing I did. I not only learned the true meaning of heartbreak, but the true
meaning of love and life. With this experience, I reached out to see how different people cope, what I
have learned, and how this shaped me into who I am. The craziest thing about love is that it is abstract.
You may love an object or person, but you can not grab love. I am not going to go on about my
relationship, but the after math. The intimate details do not matter to me anymore. After every thing
went down, I felt broken. I felt like nothing in my life was going to be okay again. Isn t it
unimaginable how something you can not even see makes you feel this way? I shut out every thing
around me and pushed people away. All because one person decided to give up when I did not want to.
Even after the horrible exchanges of words were tossed back and forth, I still did not want to give up. I
was hoping his love would be strong enough to realize how much I cared. But it did not. It did not
mean anything to that careless boy. I d rather walk barefoot across broken glass. Weeks

Crisis Intervention Theory
The social work profession evolved from individuals and/or families experiencing several stressor
events. Since the 1940s, the crisis theory has paved the way for those individuals and/or families
experiencing stressor events. Crisis Theory and intervention fundamentally explains how individuals
and/or families respond to traumatic events and what way or manner interventions can be applied to
help those experiencing crises. According to Hepworth et al. (2016), Early crisis intervention theory
spanned the life course to include grief and loss reactions, role transitions, traumatic events, and
maturational or biopsychosocial crisis at various developmental stages (Hepworth, 2016, P.385). The
theory suggests that certain life events create roadblocks and increases the possibility of interpersonal
disturbances (Selig, 1976).
The Crisis Theory owes much to its creators, Enrich Lindemann and Gerald Caplan. As a result of the
Cocoanut Grove nightclub fire, in which 493 people died, Lindemann and Caplan developed the
concept of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

crisis refers to an outcome as the state of disequilibrium that the individual experiences. (Puleo
McGlothlin, 2010). Consequently, several crisis theories have emerged such as ego psychology, chaos,
ecological systems, and lifecycle theories to underlie theoretical frameworks in which a crisis can
occur. One out of many theories that has emerged from the crisis theory is the cognitive behavioral

The Importance Of Desire For Power In Watership Down
Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength,
mastering yourself is true power, says Lao Tzu. The rabbits in Watership Down that are aspiring
leaders deal with a constant battle that relates perfectly to Lao Tzu s quote. Some gain power through
their stature, others through their wit, but the truly effective leaders use the ideal attributes both from
themselves and the rabbits they are leading. The desire for power in this novel is exhibited through the

The desire for power in this novel is exhibited through the aspiring leaders Threarah and Woundwort
that lead in their own best interest. The first chief rabbit the reader encounters goes by the name of
Threarah. He is the leader of the Sandleford warren in which Hazel and his friends populate. When
Fiver, Hazel s younger brother, has a vision about the warren being attacked, he immediately sets out
to tell Threarah. After Fiver and Hazel finally reach the distanced Threarah, he ignores them. Threarah
scolds them for interrupting his sleep and his patience. This decision is important in displaying the
desire for power in Threarah; he knows that if he listens to Fiver he could lose everything. The task of
moving the entire warren would not only take mounds of time and effort, but the decision would also

Remembering episodes: a selective role for the hippocampus during retrieval.

Some researchers hypothesize that the hippocampus is involved in some types of memory processes
but not others. This particular study measured brain activity using fMRI during two types of memory
tasks: remember (episodic memory) and know (familiarity). A memory was considered episodic if the
person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but

been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively
assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the
inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a
retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding
and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received
hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that
temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This
study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the
hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different
types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may
be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older

Review Of Botanical Aquatic Science By Ann Burkholder
Chapter 1 :
Jo Ann Burkholder is to study botanical aquatic science, and in order to do so, she is to start learning
about autoradiography. Due to the fact that she has a low paying job salary, she finds it hard to raise
money for funding her research in the area of autoradiography and botanical aquatic science. At her
age of 33, Jo Ann is around the time of completing her doctorate in the subject of botanical limnology.
She is unable to complete her research completely with success, as she is not involved with any other
scientist, etc, and her group tends to be very small. But, she does finally end up getting a chance to

What Are The Changes In Law Enforcement Essay
Law enforcement has got to be one of the most adaptable careers out there. With our society it is
constantly changing and evolving. Law enforcement must adapt quickly. Over the past couple years
our society has seen dramatic changes between the public s relationship and law enforcement. With
such diversity among the United States our law enforcement has to be capable of adapting with these
people or else there will be more serious issues later on down the road. There is no constant, our
society continues to grow in every which way, but at the same time all these people need the proper
protection and policing. There are many challenges law enforcement will endure in the next decade,
but with the proper training many lives can be saved. I believe law enforcement should always be held
at high regard. Some people that have been hired in the past should have never been given a badge.
Background checks are crucial and should be done in drastic extent. Problems that have occurred in
the past seem to sometimes follow later on down in life, unless the individual drastically changes their
ways and character. The first step to avoiding a bad situation later on is hiring the right people. With
technology available today, anything can be found. Therefore, law enforcement should be capable of
doing the same thing for the people who they look to hire. The first step to avoiding a bad decision is
hiring the right people. There were many cases for these small towns that don t

Homelessness Research Paper
Homelessness Have you ever wondered why homelessness is such a giant problem in the U.S? Well,
you should. Homelessness is such a big problem in the U.S. because of how the people who live here
are careless and ignorant towards people living on the streets, and unwilling to give of themselves to
help them. If we came together as a country then maybe we can resolve or fix most of this problem by
helping the homeless get into shelters and getting them other help that they need. Most people don t
realize how hard it is for the homeless and how easy it could be to end up like them. I think that if we
can help out this problem it will make a whole ton of people happy and we can make this country even
better than it already is. Through the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you hear the phrase homeless people you probably think of the people at corners asking for
money and change and you don t give it to them then you aren t trying to help the problem and I think
that you should at least spare a dollar or two and help this problem, (Joy, 1). I think that many of us try
to ignore the people we see begging in the streets because we think we are better than them and that
they choose to live this way so why should we help them. I don t think that a lot of us realize how easy
it was for some of these people to lose everything in the blink of an eye, or to give in to mental illness
or drug addictions, and it could just as easily happen to us. It is a devastating thing for him or her to
lose their home and experience homelessness but it s not the end. ( Take Care of People Who
Experience Homelessness 1). The homeless are still capable of being helped. If everyone starts
helping with food drives, funding shelters, and finding other ways to help or pitch in like even giving
a couple bucks to the people on the streets, then we can get this problem on it s way to being fixed. If
the homeless people start trying to learn talents or other work skills to help them make money again
then it can help them get back on their feet and get back to the life they

Literature Review. Autism Overview. Autism Spectrum Disorder
Literature Review
Autism Overview Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a widely known disability that, as of 2012,
affects about 1 in 68 of children in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2016). The exact cause of the disability is unknown, however individuals with ASD exhibit some
common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental disabilities
where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate, understand language,
play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26). These deficits can range in
varying degrees of severity, which is why the disability is considered to be a spectrum. Students with

Many students in high school lack vocational training that could increase their future success, and
many students with disabilities are in need of extra training or exploration to help them establish these
goals (Swank Huber, 2013). IDEA states that students with disabilities should be prepared for further
education, employment, and independent living (IDEA, 2004). Although this is stated in the law, many
students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students with disabilities
are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school. Transition planning is
critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning should focus on layering the
foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37).
Teaching vocational skills are an essential part of this transition planning.
Students are educated, but there is a separation between vocational and academic education. Students
are more prepared for post secondary education than they are for the workforce (Gebhardt, Tretter,
Schwab, Gasteiger Klicpera, 2012). Hazelkorn and Lombard (1994) state:
Secondary students with disabilities often are denied access to the broad continuum of vocational
education options because of the increased academic expectations of vocational courses, the
apprehension of

However, when the time came for the freedman to make his loan payment (in the form of harvest) at

The idea of agritourism urges guests to experience agricultural life at first hand. Agritourism is
gathering strong backing from little groups as rural people have realised the advantages of sustainable
development achieved by similar types of nature travel. Visitors have the chance to work in the fields
alongside real farmers and wade knee somewhere down in the ocean with fisherman pulling in their
nets. Agritourism incorporates a wide assortment of activities, including including buying produce

Wal Mart s Social Responsibility And Consumer Purchasing...
Introduction:
In a fiercely competitive economy, good social reputations are companies biggest asset. Copious
recent research established direct correlations between companies social responsibility and consumer
purchasing behaviours.
As consumers have more substitution options, it is easier to boycott unethical companies. In the recent
decade, Wal Mart has been entangled in a series of legal and ethical battle around the world. Hiring
illegal immigrant worker , refusing to pay overtime fee , discriminating against female worker , and
dumping hazardous waste into community are just a few negative publicities Wal Mart had acquired
within the last five years. It is estimated that Wal Mart receives an average of 1607 lawsuits annually.
However, despite constant criticisms that would otherwise bankrupt a company, Wal Mart s revenue is
steadily increasing at an astonishing 7.13 billion USD annually , making it the top company in the
world by sales revenue . This begs the question: What shields Wal Mart from storms of criticisms that
would otherwise cripple a business?
Wal Mart could not achieve its record revenues without its customers. Since marketing has the most
direct influence on customers, this essay will investigate within the context of the marketing topic of
the Business and Management syllabus. The question To what extent are Wal Mart s price and product
effective in counteracting the impacts of negative publicity? will be explored. Although researches had

Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as well
as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who embezzles
$40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very remote and
creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of control of his
mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s mother, however, at
the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had developed a double
personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding to stay the least, the movie
s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key scenes. The sound also helped play a
major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and guilt.
I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some way,
shape or form. Even at the very beginning of the film, before any scenes take place, we are given
suspenseful music. This is used to convey the over arching theme to the audience right away to make

once the car takes a different turn, the music stops and the audience is relieved. Another example, is
again when Marion is driving, she is remembering back to the crime that she committed. In this scene
it is obvious that Marion feels very guilty, and the music playing in the background really helps

final solution was the phrase used by the Nazi s for their plan for the extermination of all European
Jews. This meeting was the first time that the government leaders not involved with the Nazi party

government leaders in Germany that helped the Nazi s complete their plan. Among the agencies

The Rise And Fall Of Egyptian Independence
INTRODUCTION
Egypt was formally incorporated into the Roman Empire in 30BC resulting in the loss of Egyptian
independence. Egypt had experienced years of political upheaval owing to sibling rivalry and native
unrest (Wilkinson, 2010), well before Rome was interested in seizing the country. This allowed for the
weakening of the country, which consequentially made it easily conquered. However, Egypt s loss of
independence was ultimately prompted by the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony
therefore making it the immediate catalyst (Jankowski, 2000).
When analyzing to what extent was the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony the
catalyst for the loss of Egyptian independence in 30BC the aim is to extract scholarly research
findings that relate specifically to the research question and thus assist with an examination of the
aforementioned question.
Egypt occupied a crucial position at the eastern end of the Mediterranean and was of utmost

The Stroop Effect
Abstract
The aim of this experiment was to test cognitive interference. The Stroop Effect is the finding that
naming words is easier than stating the color of the word. The Stroop Effect was first conducted in
1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal
reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks.
Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of
the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a
repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was
reading the test paper during both tasks. The dependent variable was the time it would take to

The results of our replicated experiment show that just simply reading the word did not take as long as
reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus
reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to
understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is
because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires
more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider
which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates
conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that reading the actual word is more important
than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not always in control of what you are able to pay
attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the color of the

Plus Size Women
In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of acceptance
of plus size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on thinness because I
think that comparison would be based upon approval versus acceptance. My reasoning is this, images
where media now portrays plus size women in a positive light and encourages society to accept plus
size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health problems associated with obesity. We can
find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine whether or not someone is a loving, caring, kind,
or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that these images should not be accepted due to health
problems is foolish to me. Let us look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person
because they are plus size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In fact,
these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not because
they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self conscious and able to walk
out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self esteem. As we know, self esteem influences
consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform for plus size women to
have a voice. There are so many plus size models and bloggers that have created pages strictly built to
encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit society s mode. Social media has
brought about a self acceptance to the masses. It allows consumers to voice their stance, which often
times expresses the way many others feel, and set a tone to make changes. For example, a blogger Jes
Baker, also known as Militant Baker, posted a letter to Abercrombie Fitch regarding his sizeism.
(Katz, 2015). Her voice was heard throughout social media. Hence, social media is impacting beauty

California s Court Of Appeal
California s Court of Appeal Clarifies Application of anti SLAPP Statutes to Attorney Malpractice
Actions California s anti SLAPP statute (codified in Code of Civil Procedure section 425.16) protects
the Constitutional rights to freedom of speech and right of petition by subjecting any cause of action
that chills these rights to be subject to a special motion to strike. In the context of a complaint against
an attorney for malpractice, the California Court of Appeal recently clarified its application under
existing precedent and held the anti SLAPP statute did not apply to claims against attorneys by former
clients. In Loanvest I, LLC v. Utrecht et al (2015) 235 Cal.App.4th 496, the plaintiff brought an action
against its attorneys for malpractice for failing to put its interests before a former client, resulting in
damage. At the trial level, the court granted the defendant law firm s special motion to strike under the
anti SLAPP statute, finding that the malpractice claim was based upon an act in furtherance of the
protected right of petition. The plaintiff thereafter appealed. In making its decision, the trial court
relied heavily upon Peregrine Funding, Inc. v. Sheppard Muillin Richter Hampton (2005) 133
Cal.App.4th 658 where the Court of Appeal previously held that claims based upon allegations made
by attorneys in judicial filings were within the scope of the anti SLAPP statute and protected. For a

Character Analysis Of The Hanging Garden By Toshiaki Toyoda
Based on the homonymous book by Mitsuyo Kakuta, Hanging Garden is Toshiaki Toyoda s best
movie to date.
The Kyobashis appear to be a regular family of four members: Eriko, the mother, retains a part time
employment in a restaurant, otherwise busying herself with housekeeping; Takashi, the father, is a
regular salary man; the two kids, Mana and Ko, 16 and 14 years old respectively, are students. What
makes the family special is that they have agreed, following an initiative of Etsuko s, not to have any
secrets from and always be sincere with each other. Presumably, this results into constant awkward
situations.
However, as the script deepens on the characters, the facade of regularity shutters. Takashi, who has
not had intercourse with his wife for five years, retains two extramarital relationships, with whom he
often engages in sadomasochistic acts, one of which is his spouse s colleague. The other one, at some
point, is hired by his son to tutor him, thus her regular visit at their home. Ko, clearly has sexual
inclinations towards her and even asks her to have intercourse with him. Mana, who rarely attends
school, spends her time shopping at the department store, getting photographed for adult magazines
and even having sex with strangers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lent signifies the beginning of spring...after all, the name itself is derived from the Anglo Saxon word;
Lencten, meaning Springtime. It s the time of year that many of us look forward to all winter long. A
time where the flowers bloom and the birds begin their yearly song and dance. This is a time of new
beginnings, a time where we purge what we no longer want or need, ridding ourselves and our homes
of the stagnant, either physically or energetically. During this time of the year we start fresh, looking
forward to the bright and sunny days ahead...
Last week I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather by taking a walk with my son. It was
the first time we had been outside in what felt like ages. (I don t count running from the house to the

Benefits Of Coming Of Age Essay
People have been celebrations for their coming of age like Quiñceaneras, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, proms, etc.
People have been doing these celebrations so they remember these memories since they are
celebrating their coming of age. They are benefits that come from these celebrations like the center of
attention growing up and maturing during their party, there is also some costs like buying supplies for
the party which can be very expensive. These celebrations have benefits and costs for someone going

These celebrations have benefits and costs for someone going into adulthood. Quiñceaneras can be a

Internal Threats And External Threats
Current Threats
Previous mention has been made of the types of threats facing CI, both external and internal. A closer
analysis of some of these threats will provide an insight into the complex world of CI and the
difficulty in being more effective against internal threats than external threats. Despite years of
combatting both types of threats, CI time and time again, has shown that it is still more effective when
dealing with external threats due to its more offensive, proactive actions .It appears that CI in dealing
with internal threats has moved even further towards a defensive, more genteel approach which,
unfortunately, can have a negative impact. Yet, ironically, it is failure in dealing with internal threats
that will bring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has produced a booklet entitled The Insider Threat: An

personnel uses knowledge gleaned from past academic and psychological works on Organizational
Behaviour and characteristics of human behaviour, as well as past experiences in identifying
suspicious behaviour. The May 20th 2017 New York Times
(https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/20/world/asia/china cia spies espionage.html?_r=0) presented an
article as did several renowned news outlets telling of how the Chinese government systematically
dismantled CIA spying operations in the country from 2010 to 2012. It has only been recently
admitted by American officials that the killing and imprisonment of over a dozen spies was the worst
intelligence breach for over a decade. No one can be sure how the breach occurred, but this is a perfect
example of an internal threat, a threat that had already appeared on the radar but had not been dealt
with effectively until the damage was done. This example was a clear win for Chinese Intelligence and
a sad loss for the United States. Still, only 3 years later in 2015, another massive hack into government

Examples Of Righteousness In The Crucible
Over the course of history, the idea of righteousness has clouded people s thinking, leading to cruel
and unnecessary forms of punishment. Arthur Miller s The Crucible significantly illustrates human
cruelty in the name of righteousness. Inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s, Miller s play,
The Crucible, focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that
can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. Miller bases the play on the historical account of the
Salem witch trials, a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by trials to prosecute people
accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. A modern
day example that can be recognizably compared to the Salem witch trials is racial profiling that
manifested in the 1700s. Racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national
origin by law enforcement agents as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain with no
evidence of a specific crime or criminal behavior. Throughout the play, there are numerous instances
of human cruelty in the name of righteousness that outline the basis of the Salem witch trials and
racial profiling in today s society. In both of the situations, The Crucible and racial profiling,
individuals use their authority to commit hanice interrogation techniques to get what they want from
innocent citizens. You will confess yourself or I will take you out and whip you to

Social And Cultural Contributions Of Migrations And...
Social and cultural elements of opinions towards migrants and relations between locals and foreigners
are not always easy. In many countries around the world, migrants and migration are constantly being
debated. However, there have been societies like the Nomadic Turks who helped developed
civilizations. The modern world needs to learn how to resolve the issues of migration from these
nomadic cultures. Between 1000 and 1500 CE, the fast movement of human interaction led to the
rapid movements of technology and other advancements that drives our history. Multicultural
associations were established and unite the societies of Europe and Asia. The migration of the clans
and tribes of the Turkish peoples has fundamental significance as they settled in other societies and
learned new cultures. Modern globalization has inspired a rise in migration both near and far,
reinforced by many influences. These ancient places are linked our modern successes and problems
that have occurred and are occurring today as history tends to repeat itself. Most of us would agree
that civilization started in the ancient area of Mesopotamia. Nomadic Turks became noticeable in the
history of Eurasia between the eleventh and the fifteenth centuries. The Turks are ethnolinguistic
groups of Central, Eastern, Northern and Western Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa.
They share a variety of certain cultural traits, common ancestry and historical backgrounds to
Mongolia and East Central Asia.

was received, in order to engage with the exploration skills of counselling (Kottler Shepard, 2015, p.
59). Open questions are very important to the exploration and overall process of working through
issues as well as building the relationship between client and counsellor, this approach links to the use
of OARS which stands for open ended questions, affirmation, reflective listening of content, feelings,
emotions and summarizing (Klonek Kauffeld, 2015, p. 118). OARS as an open ended technique of
questioning client issues is very important as one of the main techniques of counselling is to make a
quality of openness for the client, so they can express themselves without feeling restricted (Lee Prior,
2013, p. 101). The next positive point on the roleplay was the use of empathic responses which were
well conveyed by the counsellor on a median of good to very good. Empathy is the process in which
to try and understand issues from the client s perspective that could identify underlying emotions,
feelings or issues (Kottler Shepard, 2015, p. 91). During the roleplay, there was a good reflection on
content and paraphrasing. By reflecting on

Little Boy By B. H. Fairchild
Words and actions have a large impact on the way you work with the world around you, they have the
ability to make you feel indescribable emotions in every way. The poem Little Boy, written by B.H.
Fairchild begins as a young boy questions his father s hurtful past, as the speaker demonstrates that he
asked the questions as he would ve asked if he ever saw Dimaggio or Mantle, and develops into an
examination of a lifeless relationship between father and son. In the poem the little boy s persistent
focus on the father s brutal past reveals a case of PTSD from his involvement in WWII, and how it
affects the advancement of an already bad and unsteady and unchanging relationship of a father and
son.

reveals his regretful combative past. The boy asks questions repeatedly from many different aspects
including, why we dropped the bomb on those two towns in Japan where is Saipan Where is Okinawa
where is the pacific (Fairchild 5 16). The questions stand as the absences of order and by all means,
progress, no answers mean no progress. As the questions continue the speaker describes the father and
says the palm of his hand slowly tapping the arm of a lawn chair, (Fairchild 7 8). The slow tapping
equivalent the slow buildup of anger and fear. Following, the speaker s description of the father s face
as his son continues mindlessly is wooden as his eyes freeze like rabbits in headlights (Fairchild 6 7).

Why I Want To Be An Engineer
Growing up, Math and science were always my favorite subjects. This led me to desire a career that
incorporates these two subjects. As I furthered my education, I discovered I was very interested in
engineering. Being able to learn new things and apply that new knowledge is something I have always
enjoyed doing. The high job market, life flexibility, financial security and social impact are all reasons
I have chosen to pursue a career in software engineering. One reason I want to be an engineer is I
enjoy that kind of work. Problem solving is one major part of engineering, and something I have
always enjoyed doing. If I enjoy the work I do, engineering will fell much less like a job , and make it
much more enjoyable. I always knew I never wanted to have to wake up every morning to go to a job

vacation and traveling, it would still be a great opportunity to see the world. For these reasons, I am
motivated to pursue a career in the engineering field. For me, the most important attribute for being an
engineer is life flexibility. Seeing the life flexibility my mother has with her engineering job showed
me how critical flexibility is. Anytime there was an emergency, my mother was always able to make
herself available due to the flexibility of her job. My mother is also able to do the majority of her work
from home. Having the flexibility to be able to work from home is another reason life flexibility is on
the top of my list. Overall, having a flexible job is very important to me, and the flexibility of
engineering is one reason I am drawn to that

Quadratic Formula Research Paper
Completing the square is use to prove the quadratic formula. Given ax^2+bx+c=0 we first have to
make the coefficient of x^2 to be one. We divided the original formula by a: x^2+b/c x+c/a=0/a since
0/a we still have our quadratic equation. Subtract that c/a in both sides: x^2+b/c x+c/a c/a= c/a
remember that b/a is b/2(a) now we will have to add it to the root of two: x^2+b/a x+b^2/(4a^2
)=b^2/(4a^2 ) c/a next is to set up our denominators to be the same we should have
(x+b/2a)^2=b^2/(4a^2 ) 4ac/(4a^2 ) now that our denominators are the same we need to combine like
terms: (b^2 4ac)/(4a^2 ) in this step it resembles somewhat a part of the quadratic formula but we still
missing more steps. Now grab the x+b/2a and subtract the b/2a also put the ... Show more content on

Writing the y intercept in interval notation is [15/8,∞). The axis of symmetry has been found also
which is where the x of the vertex is meaning that it is x=1/4. We will now find where does it
increases and decreases, this should be easy now that we have our vertex and knowledge that all
quadratic equations are parabolas. We know that the domain is ( ∞,∞) any line coming from the
negative side it will decrease while the positive side will increase. Then the side that is decreasing will
stop to decrease at ( ∞,1/4), it will then begin to increase at (1/4,∞). This time we are finding the x and
y intercept, beginning with the x intercept we are going to use the discriminant of the quadratic
equation which is b^2 4ac. Plugging the numbers, it will be ( 1)^2 4(2)(2) the solution will be a
negative fifteen. The rule of a discriminant is that there cannot be negative numbers for x, this time
there are no x intercept. the x intercept does not exist we will replace it with a zero so the y intercept
can be found, by plugging the numbers y=2(0)^2 0+2 we will have the answer of y=2. The quadratic
equation will be crossing the y intercept at (0,2). Now writing the

12, 1987 in St. George, Utah. He was raised in a very Mormon family, and he is of Hawaiian descent.
Growing up, he loved music, and he was always singing or playing the drums, guitar, or bass guitar.
Naturally, when Brendon got to high school, he desperately wanted to join a band with people who
loved music as much as he did. At Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004, Brendon
met Brent Wilson, who asked him to be in Wilson s band, since they needed a new guitarist. This band

Essay On The Tipping Point Of The American Revolution
The Tipping Point of the American Revolution Essay
Leading up to the American Revolution, King George III of England implemented many taxes and
acts to collect money from the Colonists after he funded their war against the French colonies, known
as French Canada, and the Native American tribes. These taxes charged the Colonists on household
items, such as paper, food, and tea. King George III enforced these taxes by sending his army, the Red
Coats, to the American Colonies. All of the Colonists were livid with their ruler, who was 3,000 miles
away, and decided to fight back. Although many people believe the Boston Massacre was the tipping
point of the revolution because blood was shed, the tipping point was actually the Tea Act because ...

The English Bill of Rights states, That levying money for or to the use of the Crown by pretence of
prerogative, without grant of Parliament, for longer time, or in other manner than the same is or shall
be granted, is illegal, (English Bill of Rights). This means that the King cannot tax or charge English
Subjects without consent of the English Parliament per the English Bill of Rights. The Tea Act is the
tipping point because the Colonists rights have been revoked by the King for his greed by making the
Tea Act. By taxing the Colonists on tea, who are English Subjects, King George III violated the
English Bill of Rights.
Moreover, the Tea Act led directly to the Boston Tea Party. On December 16, 1773, the Colonists
protested the Tea Act and the taxes it involved by dumping 342 barrels of the East India Company tea
into the Boston Harbor. Approximately sixty Colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians to invade the three
ships. History.com states, Parliament responded with a series of harsh measures intended to stifle
colonial resistance to British rule; two years later the war began, (History.com). This means that the
English Parliament implemented harsh acts after the Colonist s outburst, which led to the Revolution.
Because the Colonist s decided to finally fight back against the Crown, the Tea Act was the tipping
point of the revolution.
Even though many people are led to believe that the Boston Massacre was

Auguste Rodin The Thinker Summary
The Thinker by Auguste Robin is set to represent the Human man. It s very positioning symbolizes the
very embodiment of a simple thought. In his lifetime, Rodin made at least 10 castings of The Thinker .
However, that number has grown to over 21. You can find them all over the world, from the Rodin
Museum in Paris to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, Calif., to the Rodin Museum at the
Philadelphia Museum of Art. Many of the bronze copies, as well as the original plasters for this piece,
have been displayed in a central position so that visitors can see it from every conceivable angle. A
marvel of the creative world. The style which Auguste Rodin developed throughout his professional
life can in part be attributed to his artistic education or the lack of it in any formal capacity. The
Thinker by Auguste Rodin is set to represent the Human man.
Rodin s choice to make his Thinking Man nude to follow in the style of the heroic nudes of
Michelangelo and his Renaissance style of Sculpting. Also, Auguste Rodin created The Thinker in a
way that mirrors the heroes of Michelangelo. The nude figure is muscular, taunt, and valiant. This
demonstrates to the viewer the high regard with which Rodin held Dante and creative thinkers in
general. The way the body is placed is how the body was cast. Sitting and thinking with his entire
body. Designed as the total thinking machine. A visual document of a thought. When Rodin cast The
Thinker his intent for making him

  • 2. Biiphenylpropane Lab Report Dawar Saeed Professor: Nalband Hussain SCC 251 Organic Chemistry II Experiment 1: Separation of a Carboxylic acid, phenol and a neutral compound by Extraction Abstract: Extraction involves dissolving one or more compounds from a solid to a solvent or from a solution into another solvent. Extraction can be used to isolate an organic compound from a mixture or solution. The most common solvent used is 1 mthoxy 2 metylpropane and water. Extraction requires you to mix the solvent in a substance that is more soluble than the solvent which forms two layers when mixed in which you can extract one layer. Introduction: Carboxylic acid and phenol are families of two different organic compounds when reacted with water yield an excess of hydronium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Table 2: The melting points of the compounds. Compound Melting Point (Experimental) Melting Point Actual Carboxylic Acid 120° 122° Phenol 102° 104° Biphenyl 150° 156° Discussion: Table 1 shows that all of the compounds were soluble in an ether solution but were insoluble in water. The reason that these compounds were soluble in ether was because it was ionized while water being a poor solvent had to be ionized with ionic compounds for the mixture to become more soluble. Phenol was ionized with the addition of NaOH and since it was ionized water was added to allow the phenol to dissolve in water. Table 2 shows the actual melting point of each compound and the melting points we experimentally got for each compound. The variation in these numbers could be a result of contamination or human error. The reason could have been that the solutions were not mixed well or may have been contaminated. It may also be the fact that when adding liquid we may have been precise with the pipette or may not have properly discarded the solution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Julius Caesar Social Classes Essay Proletariats have been looked down upon as lesser by every social class in history, even by themselves and each social class above them is named inadequate and inferior by the ones above them. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, high contrast is shown between the representation of the bourgeois and the working classes. Criticism of higher social classes is subtle enough to go unnoticed by the nobility and Queen Elizabeth, yet powerful enough that the majority of Shakespeare s audience would understand and relate to it. When together, the plebeians also take on a mob mentality. In scene one of act one, Flavius is angry about the commoners immediately shifting their admiration from Pompey to Caesar; they all agree and cheer when Caesar is to be ... Brutus is willing to help Cassius if it be aught toward the general good, (1.2.87). The general good is likely not referring to the general population of Rome, but the general good of those he and Cassius deem important, meaning just the other senators. This shows Brutus lack of consideration for the plebeians of Rome. Brutus temperament and behaviors are also exposed, as the audience finds out he is indecisive and hypocritical, particularly on the matter of Cato s suicide. Cassius is also shown to be a manipulative liar, after audience realise he was most likely lying about Caesar being sick in Spain. Cassius and the other senators believe they are better than the commoners. When Brutus accuses Cassius of leading him into danger of the conspiracy, Cassius says if he were a common laugher, then hold me dangerous (1.2.74,80). Cassius believes the commoners are all foolish or stupid and can t be trusted with important decisions. The upper class characters are shown in the way Shakespeare sees them, which is corrupt and ... • 4. ADHD And Odd Case Study The main focus of the field placement was on student behaviour in the classroom and how students with disabilities may cause distractions to the class for several reasons. Evidently, the relationship between ADHD and ODD contribute to a student s inability to be on task and demonstrate antisocial behaviour (Matthys and Lochman, 2017, p.3; Hamilton and Armando, p.864). The implications of ODD on the student s education are significant due to the student s reaction to positive behavioural management techniques may be met with uncertainty and destructiveness (NDCO, 2010, p.12). In addition, the students are examined to be argumentative and defiant , they may also deliberately annoy others and portray sudden unprovoked anger (NDCO, 2010, ... Therefore, Marcus is increasingly aggressive towards figures that are regarded as authoritarian and a student that pertains both disorders tend to be more aggressive and have more persistent behavioral problems (Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863). As a result, students that possess both disorders tend to be isolated from their peers and are severely disadvantaged in their academic achievements (Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863). In an attempt to alleviate symptoms of ADHD and ODD, students that have these disorders are treated with drugs that contain Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) and the most popular known clinical drug that contains LDX is Vyvanse® (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1064). Although this drug is shown to be effective in suppressing student s aggression and disobedience in the classroom, their negative side effects can impede on providing inclusive education due to loss of focus as a result of anorexia, insomnia, nausea and exacerbation of motor tics (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1065). The medicine is regarded as highly effective for students with ADHD and ODD disorders and is durable for over 12 hours (Roweley et al., 2012, p.1065). Consequently, the use of this medication is still negative as it can create discomfort for the student that is taking LDX. The effects of LDX in motor tics are evident as Marcus demonstrates the uncontrollable muscle spasms during lessons. Additionally, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Louis Pasteur And Its Effects On Humans Louis Pasteur made very important contributions to science. He figured out that microorganism scaled microbes made alcohol and milk go sour. Before his discovery, there was no way to stop beverages from going bad. Drinking spoiled drinks can have very negative effects on humans. Louis created a process that destroys the microbes inside of liquids. To do this, you must heat up a liquid to a high temperature for a short amount of time. He named this revolutionary process pasteurization. In addition to is amazing achievement, Louis created vaccines for rabies and anthrax. Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822. This is where Louis met his wife, Marie Laurent. Louis married Marie on May 29 in the year 1849. Marie and Louis had five children. Sadly, only two of these children survived their childhood. After managing to cope with the death of two of his children, Louis Pasteur was made a professor at the University of Lille. It was at this university, that Louis tried to find a solution to the problem manufacturers of alcohol faced at that time. Louis Pasteur, of course, did not invent Germ Theory. He did however, further develop the theory, and convinced the majority of Europe that this theory is true. After showing how microorganism affected drinks such as alcohol and milk, Louis then created a process that was capable of destroying these organisms that put humans in danger. He figured out that this could be accomplished by boiling, and then cooling a liquid. Louis performed this for the first time on April 20 in 1862. We later named this process pasteurization, after its inventor. Louis s knowledge of how microorganisms forms helped him later in life. By using what he knew about microbes, Pasteur saved the silk industry. Pasteur proved to silk manufacturers that microbes were responsible for the silk shortage. The microbes were attacking silkworm eggs. By doing this, the silkworms caught a disease. Louis realized that if the microbes were killed, the disease would cease to exist. • 6. How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For... Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that the writer answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and hope to show why. In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that children s sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article Zinsmeister uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long Term effects of Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his opinions and back them by research. There are a series of events that occur which demonstrate how abusing power can result in catastrophic consequences which affect both individuals and communities. Characters Frank, Julian, Wes, and the whole white community abused their capabilities which resulted in negative outcomes. Local doctor Frank Hayden is one of the many people in the Bentrock community to overstep his power and mistreat it. Wes is responsible for the Frank s arrest which later on caused severe family tension. But the important consequence is that Wes didn t going to treat his brother the same as any other criminal that he d pass in his job. Instead of jailing Frank in the town jail, Wes finds his own basement as the most suitable option. Singleton EDU 7253 Legal Environment of Higher Education May 28, 2015 Abstract Because of recent court cases such as O Bannon v. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the issue of whether intercollegiate student athletes should be compensated for their athletic appearances on behalf of colleges has been featured in the news and been the subject of much scholarly writing. Other themes that are pro compensation include redefining amateurism and worker s compensation and liability issues. The fourth stream of literature focuses on various reasons that intercollegiate athletes should not be paid to play, mostly viewpoints that consider the use of the Sherman Act within intercollegiate athletics to be judicial overreach. The Sherman Antitrust Act Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, in part, states that every contract, combination... or conspiracy, in the restraint of trade or commerce... is declared to be illegal. (Sherman Act, 2006). This law provides a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at preserving free and unfettered competition as the rule of trade (Northern Pacific Railway Company vs. United States, 1958; Reiter vs. Sonotone Corporation, 1979). It relies on a fundamental belief in supply and demand (Baum Research Development Company vs. Hillerich Bradsby, 1998). There are two main ways by which a plaintiff could challenge the NCAA s no pay rules under Section 1 of the Sherman Act. First, the plaintiff could argue that the no pay regulations signify a type of wage fixing that damages not only the market for the student athletes skills but also the value of college sports as a whole. Second, the plaintiff could argue that the NCAA rules create an unlawful group prohibition of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question posed is, does the recent presidential election indicate a white, racist culture? The culture of the U.S. has been, from its inception, white; our founding fathers were white. It has taken the U.S. hundreds of years with many conflicts along the way, to start to give value to other cultures. Looking back eight years ago to the election then; the approximate percentage of whites in the U.S. was 62.6% (Wikipedia, 2017) and Obama was elected to presidency in 2008 and again in 2012. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it Sir Winston Churchill. This saying in history is to remember that the same mistakes are not made over and over again. America is based on individuality and that makes a homogenous culture hard. Different beliefs, different cultures, different ethnicities, that s what once made America great in it s infancy and will do so again. Different beliefs are what weld us together to produce a culture not seen in the rest of the world. When Obama was elected, what were cultural anthropologists surmising then? Did they project the end of racial tensions between whites and blacks? Yes, they were predicting a more harmonious culture. However, that s not what happened; research indicates that racial tensions increased throughout the Presidency of Obama. Curious? If your contention is that the election of Trump will increase white racial supremacy, then maybe you are correct. Having a black president sure did not ensure harmonious racial interchanges. Culture will change, however, slowly. Culture, like Rome, was not built in a day. All of the p orbitals, both from the diene and the double bond must line up so it can attack from top or bottom, which creates a chair structure. Because of this, the trans conformation is favored due to the lesser steric interactions. As for the 2,3 difluorobutadiene and 1,3 butadiene, the rate of the reaction would be slower. Since the 1940s, the crisis theory has paved the way for those individuals and/or families experiencing stressor events. Crisis Theory and intervention fundamentally explains how individuals and/or families respond to traumatic events and what way or manner interventions can be applied to help those experiencing crises. According to Hepworth et al. (2016), Early crisis intervention theory spanned the life course to include grief and loss reactions, role transitions, traumatic events, and maturational or biopsychosocial crisis at various developmental stages (Hepworth, 2016, P.385). The theory suggests that certain life events create roadblocks and increases the possibility of interpersonal disturbances (Selig, 1976). (2000) Remembering episodes: a selective role for the hippocampus during retrieval. Nature Neuroscience, Volume 3, pg 1149 1152. Some researchers hypothesize that the hippocampus is involved in some types of memory processes but not others. This particular study measured brain activity using fMRI during two types of memory tasks: remember (episodic memory) and know (familiarity). A memory was considered episodic if the person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but could not retrieve the specidic moment it was learned. The a priori (pre selected) region of interest( ROI) in the hippocampus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among these different processes are encoding, storage, consolidation, and retrieval. This study hypothesized that the hippocampus plays a different role in each of these. The method of this study is especially unique because it used temporary chemical inactivation of the hippocampus, which had not been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older ... Law enforcement must adapt quickly. Over the past couple years our society has seen dramatic changes between the public s relationship and law enforcement. With such diversity among the United States our law enforcement has to be capable of adapting with these people or else there will be more serious issues later on down the road. There is no constant, our society continues to grow in every which way, but at the same time all these people need the proper protection and policing. There are many challenges law enforcement will endure in the next decade, but with the proper training many lives can be saved. I believe law enforcement should always be held at high regard. Some people that have been hired in the past should have never been given a badge. Background checks are crucial and should be done in drastic extent. Problems that have occurred in the past seem to sometimes follow later on down in life, unless the individual drastically changes their ways and character. The first step to avoiding a bad situation later on is hiring the right people. With technology available today, anything can be found. Homelessness is such a big problem in the U.S. because of how the people who live here are careless and ignorant towards people living on the streets, and unwilling to give of themselves to help them. If we came together as a country then maybe we can resolve or fix most of this problem by helping the homeless get into shelters and getting them other help that they need. I think that many of us try to ignore the people we see begging in the streets because we think we are better than them and that they choose to live this way so why should we help them. I don t think that a lot of us realize how easy it was for some of these people to lose everything in the blink of an eye, or to give in to mental illness or drug addictions, and it could just as easily happen to us. The exact cause of the disability is unknown, however individuals with ASD exhibit some common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental disabilities where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate, understand language, play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26). Egypt had experienced years of political upheaval owing to sibling rivalry and native unrest (Wilkinson, 2010), well before Rome was interested in seizing the country. This allowed for the weakening of the country, which consequentially made it easily conquered. However, Egypt s loss of independence was ultimately prompted by the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony therefore making it the immediate catalyst (Jankowski, 2000). The Stroop Effect was first conducted in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks. Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates conflict in your mind. In the context of a complaint against an attorney for malpractice, the California Court of Appeal recently clarified its application under existing precedent and held the anti SLAPP statute did not apply to claims against attorneys by former clients. In Loanvest I, LLC v. • 40. Internal Threats And External Threats Current Threats Previous mention has been made of the types of threats facing CI, both external and internal. A closer analysis of some of these threats will provide an insight into the complex world of CI and the difficulty in being more effective against internal threats than external threats. Despite years of combatting both types of threats, CI time and time again, has shown that it is still more effective when dealing with external threats due to its more offensive, proactive actions .It appears that CI in dealing with internal threats has moved even further towards a defensive, more genteel approach which, unfortunately, can have a negative impact. Yet, ironically, it is failure in dealing with internal threats that will bring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has only been recently admitted by American officials that the killing and imprisonment of over a dozen spies was the worst intelligence breach for over a decade. No one can be sure how the breach occurred, but this is a perfect example of an internal threat, a threat that had already appeared on the radar but had not been dealt with effectively until the damage was done. This example was a clear win for Chinese Intelligence and a sad loss for the United States. Still, only 3 years later in 2015, another massive hack into government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Examples Of Righteousness In The Crucible Over the course of history, the idea of righteousness has clouded people s thinking, leading to cruel and unnecessary forms of punishment. Arthur Miller s The Crucible significantly illustrates human cruelty in the name of righteousness. Inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s, Miller s play, The Crucible, focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. Miller bases the play on the historical account of the Salem witch trials, a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. A modern day example that can be recognizably compared to the Salem witch trials is racial profiling that manifested in the 1700s. Racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national origin by law enforcement agents as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain with no evidence of a specific crime or criminal behavior. Throughout the play, there are numerous instances of human cruelty in the name of righteousness that outline the basis of the Salem witch trials and racial profiling in today s society. In both of the situations, The Crucible and racial profiling, individuals use their authority to commit hanice interrogation techniques to get what they want from innocent citizens. In many countries around the world, migrants and migration are constantly being debated. However, there have been societies like the Nomadic Turks who helped developed civilizations. The modern world needs to learn how to resolve the issues of migration from these nomadic cultures. Between 1000 and 1500 CE, the fast movement of human interaction led to the rapid movements of technology and other advancements that drives our history. Multicultural associations were established and unite the societies of Europe and Asia. The migration of the clans and tribes of the Turkish peoples has fundamental significance as they settled in other societies and learned new cultures. Modern globalization has inspired a rise in migration both near and far, reinforced by many influences. These ancient places are linked our modern successes and problems that have occurred and are occurring today as history tends to repeat itself. Most of us would agree that civilization started in the ancient area of Mesopotamia. Nomadic Turks became noticeable in the history of Eurasia between the eleventh and the fifteenth centuries. Another strength was having open questions for the client to answer from what feedback was received, in order to engage with the exploration skills of counselling (Kottler Shepard, 2015, p. 59). Open questions are very important to the exploration and overall process of working through issues as well as building the relationship between client and counsellor, this approach links to the use of OARS which stands for open ended questions, affirmation, reflective listening of content, feelings, emotions and summarizing (Klonek Kauffeld, 2015, p. 118). OARS as an open ended technique of questioning client issues is very important as one of the main techniques of counselling is to make a quality of openness for the client, so they can express themselves without feeling restricted (Lee Prior, 2013, p. 101). The next positive point on the roleplay was the use of empathic responses which were well conveyed by the counsellor on a median of good to very good. Empathy is the process in which to try and understand issues from the client s perspective that could identify underlying emotions, feelings or issues (Kottler Shepard, 2015, p. 91). • 47. Quadratic Formula Research Paper Completing the square is use to prove the quadratic formula. Given ax^2+bx+c=0 we first have to make the coefficient of x^2 to be one. We divided the original formula by a: x^2+b/c x+c/a=0/a since 0/a we still have our quadratic equation. Subtract that c/a in both sides: x^2+b/c x+c/a c/a= c/a remember that b/a is b/2(a) now we will have to add it to the root of two: x^2+b/a x+b^2/(4a^2 )=b^2/(4a^2 ) c/a next is to set up our denominators to be the same we should have (x+b/2a)^2=b^2/(4a^2 ) 4ac/(4a^2 ) now that our denominators are the same we need to combine like terms: (b^2 4ac)/(4a^2 ) in this step it resembles somewhat a part of the quadratic formula but we still missing more steps. The axis of symmetry has been found also which is where the x of the vertex is meaning that it is x=1/4. We will now find where does it increases and decreases, this should be easy now that we have our vertex and knowledge that all quadratic equations are parabolas. We know that the domain is ( ∞,∞) any line coming from the negative side it will decrease while the positive side will increase. Then the side that is decreasing will stop to decrease at ( ∞,1/4), it will then begin to increase at (1/4,∞). This time we are finding the x and y intercept, beginning with the x intercept we are going to use the discriminant of the quadratic equation which is b^2 4ac. Plugging the numbers, it will be ( 1)^2 4(2)(2) the solution will be a negative fifteen. The rule of a discriminant is that there cannot be negative numbers for x, this time there are no x intercept. the x intercept does not exist we will replace it with a zero so the y intercept can be found, by plugging the numbers y=2(0)^2 0+2 we will have the answer of y=2. The quadratic equation will be crossing the y intercept at (0,2). Now writing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On The Tipping Point Of The American Revolution The Tipping Point of the American Revolution Essay Leading up to the American Revolution, King George III of England implemented many taxes and acts to collect money from the Colonists after he funded their war against the French colonies, known as French Canada, and the Native American tribes. These taxes charged the Colonists on household items, such as paper, food, and tea. King George III enforced these taxes by sending his army, the Red Coats, to the American Colonies. All of the Colonists were livid with their ruler, who was 3,000 miles away, and decided to fight back. The Tea Act is the tipping point because the Colonists rights have been revoked by the King for his greed by making the Tea Act. By taxing the Colonists on tea, who are English Subjects, King George III violated the English Bill of Rights. Moreover, the Tea Act led directly to the Boston Tea Party.
