Feminism In Our Time Analysis
Naomi Weisstein and Susan Brownmiller were powerful voices for women during the second wave
of feminism in America. Their writings, Kinder, Kuche, Kirche as Scientific Law: Psychology
Constructs the Female and Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape , found in the anthology
Feminism in Our Time , reflected how throughout the 20th century, popular medical and
psychological models were centered around men which resulted in women receiving inaccurate and
inappropriate treatments. They argued that the oppression of women was perpetuated through false
narratives under the guise of science but with no empirical evidence. Both Weisstein and
Brownmiller harshly criticized the popular use of Freudian theories which influenced many aspects
of society

McDonald s Case Study Essay
McDonald s Case Study
As organizations seeks ways to increase profits by filtering into international markets, many turn to
the field of public relations as a way of reaching cross cultural markets. Factors such as values,
cultural differences, language barriers, beliefs, etc #8230;in order to successfully promote an
organization s products and services. Public relations practitioners have the responsibility to be the

The final stage is the active stage recognizes the problem and organizes something to do about it.
According to J.E. Grunig and Hunt (1984) the idea is to communicate with an aware public before
it actively opposes an organization, thus becoming an activist public.
London Greenpeace is an activist group with 3.3 million members in over 22 countries that use
highly visible actions to draw media attention to environmental problems. The London Greenpeace
group, a division of Greenpeace, is an independent group of activists that has no involvement in
any political party. This group meets weekly to share concern for the oppression in our lives and
the destruction of our environment. Anderson (1992) cited that weaknesses in most case studies of
activism is that similar case studies should be conducted that examine activism from the
perspective of both the organizations and of the activists groups, which is applicable to this study
of the McLibel case. In my research, I came across must more literature and disseminated
information from the small activist group of London Greenpeace versus the large multi national
corporation of McDonald s. This study also points to the need of more studies that examine the
special problems of international communication. The actions of a McDonald s triggered activist
conflict not only in London, but in other different countries as well.

Communication And Complex Communication
Complex Communication
Where humans are today is an absolute miracle significantly due to the process of collective
learning. Collective learning is how individuals learned to do many fundamental tasks and how
various cultures in the world developed. Early evidence of collective learning was found by
archaeologists when they discovered human skulls that dated back about 200,000 years ago.
These skulls had a more flexible jaw allowing those early humans to speak vocally. (Early
Evidence of Collective Learning, Big History Project). Languages allowed humans to share
information with each other and pass down information across countless generations. Humans have
cultivated a complex and well defined language that has allowed for collective learning in which
we can progress much further as a society than any other animal group has.
All living beings have communication but what s special about human communication is that there
are elaborate languages. These elaborate languages have a lot of flexibility to the point where new
words are made and added constantly (Text 8). However, in other organisms that doesn t happen
because they keep on communicating in a stagnant language. For example, bacteria can
communicate by producing distinctive organic molecules that have specialized receptors. These
receptors allow bacteria to detect the presence of other bacteria (Text 1). This is important to
bacteria because it lets them detect other bacteria and usually bacteria want to be in a

A Report On Japanese Tea
As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was
initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan
initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907).
During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing
relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, teawas esteemed for its
medicinal value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in
Japan was created 1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story
is that he would have a daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a
cave. In his own personal journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea
to ease the pain. Eventually, he came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes
would not close. Supposedly, on the place where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes
appeared. From this legend, it was reported that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important
to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he was an important role model. (Hays, 2013)
Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then
crushed into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred
into the hot water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered

The Role Of Emotions Of Memory And Learning
Role of Emotions in Memory and Learning

Introduction
Think back to one of your earliest memories, perhaps a memory of being frightened as a young
child, or being delighted by a new experience or sensation. Why is it that we remember certain
events in our life that are triggered by a deep or intense emotion, but we cannot remember what we
had for lunch last Tuesday? The way in which we relate to the world is so heavily influenced by
our memories, and in part by the emotions in which we felt when we experienced said event. If
once as a teen you were nearly hit by a car when crossing a road, you future interactions with road
crossings is probably going to be a slightly more heightened event than if you had never
experienced such an event.
The same phenomenon is evident in the way in which we learn also. If you had to write an
English paper as a teen about the turbulent love story of Romeo and Juliet whilst experiencing a
breakup with your high school sweetheart, the story will probably be attached in your memory
forever, even more so because the emotions expressed in the story are very similar to what you
yourself are experiencing. We have all had the experience of hearing a certain song or smelling a
certain perfume whilst we are experiencing an intense, mind rattling emotion hearing said song in
the future could be like reliving the entire event, physiologically and mentally.
So why is it that we can recall events or

Pmh Model Essay
According to the analysis of variance SPH model study (Table 4.), it was understood that the
model was significant since its P value is 0.1, which indicated the independent variables did not
have an effect on the dependent variable. The values for AB, AC, and BC were 0.5, 0.2, and 0.4,
respectively, showed little or no effect on glucan yield. The coefficient of determination (R2) of
the model was 0.91, which indicated that the model could represent the real relationships among
the selected reaction variables. Based on the ANOVA study of SPHP and the Model F value of
49.87, the developed model was significant. There was only a 0.01% chance that a Model F Value

The interaction of persulfate content and time of reaction showed that high concentration of
persulfate and longer residence time caused better sugar yield, however, over 130 min no notable
change occurred in the system. It suggests that 130 min is enough for completion of reaction.
In SPH system, first plot on the left showed the interaction of persulfate and heat amount, it was
obvious that any increment was beneficial to the better sugar yield. At 80 В°C, the glucose yield
increased from 10% to 18%, while the persulfate concentration increased from 0.6 M to 1.1 M
for 60 min. The same pattern was observed for the interaction of persulfate content with time and
temperature with time. It suggests increasing the time of reaction will increase the potential of
SPH system for wheat straw pretreatment. The FTIR spectra of control and radical pretreated
samples (in each method two FTIR spectra were analyzed for the runs with highest and lowest
sugar yield) are revealed in Fig. 5 7. For the pretreated samples, several FTIR bands characteristic to
lignin decreased in intensity and some others related to side chain groups increased in intensity.
The peaks at 3390 cm 1 expressed to a hydroxyl group ( OH) stretching which was presented in

Singer Theme
Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs
and themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories
in his memoir In My Father s Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he
witnesses his father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in
his later adult work, as seen in his short storyA Crown of Feathers ; though it is evident through
the story that his view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained
the theme of forgiveness in his work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life
experiences. As the son of a rabbi, Singer was able to see firsthand the... Show more content on

Through The Purim Gift and To Warsaw, Singer shows how he saw forgiveness as a simple
means to a happy ending. However, as he grew into an adult and the world around him
drastically changed, Singer realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child
and that there is much more inner turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came
with growing up in a conflict ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer s perception
of forgiveness evolved not only due to simply growing up, but also possibly because of the
Holocaust and its effect on other Jews, as he was able to avoid it. Singer s relationship with
forgiveness shows the complexity of both faith and emotion and how childhood innocence is

Gender Stereotypes In The United States Today
Gender stereotypes are present in the United States today. Women are only supposed to act in
feminine ways while men are only supposed to act in masculine ways. Women and men have
different standards when comparing one another. Men and women have different roles that society
says is more feminine or masculine. Genderstereotypes are present throughout any race. Race
stereotypes are also a problem today and still have their own gender stereotypes with in their
culture. When people act outside what society says those gender roles are, they are seen in a
negative way. Society has determined what we consider to be acceptable definition of feminine or
masculine. Throughout history, gender stereotypes have played a significant role in peoples lives....

Society has defined what it means to be masculine or feminine. If people go against the gender
roles and the definitions society has set people are seen in a negative way. Gender stereotyping
within occupations is present in today s society. Men and women as supposed to be in
occupations that fit into the feminine or masculine definition. If someone goes against those
definitions then people being to stereotype a person just because of their occupation. Society has
set the stereotype that women should not be making the most money and should be taking care
of the children. This stereotype has been around a long time and still is present today. Adichie is
an example of how gender stereotyping plays a role in her life. People stereotyped her based on
where she is from and what they have heard without getting the correct information. Gender or
skin color should not define who people are or what they can do. Stereotypes do not define who
we are. People should care more about who that person is on the inside instead of judging them
because of what s on the outside. No matter what gender, race, religion you are it should not
cause negative impacts in a person s life. Everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter what
the color of their skin is or their gender. To fix this problem people need to go into situations with
an open mind and no stereotypes that would cloud their judgment. No person wants to be judged on

The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
I feel that the Grandmother in the story A Good Man is Hard to Find suffers from psychological
conditions. She does not care at all about anyone but herself. I feel that she may even be
narcissistic. It is ironic because she would be expected to look out for her family. The Cambridge
Dictionary defines narcissism as too much interest in and admiration for your own physical
appearance and/or your own abilities It is ironic because she would be expected to look out for
her family, however in reality she only really looks out for herself. She shows how self centered
she really is many times throughout the story. She displays a complete lack of regard for what

According to the Miriam Webster dictionary self centered is being ?concerned solely with one s
own desires, needs, or interests? or being ?independent of outside force or influence?. The
grandmother is certainly guilty of both. The grandmother was like a child she would do
anything she possibly could to get what she wanted. She showed no regard for the people who
love her. Although it was unintentional it is hard not to blame everything that went wrong in the
story on the grandmother. She was the cause of all of the tension in the car; she was also the one
who wanted to go up the side roads. Of not for the grandmother the cat would not have been in the
car so they probably would not have crashed. Once they confronted the Misfit she still did nothing
to help save her family. She showed them no regard and just looked out for herself.
The grandmother is a very immature woman. She acts as if she has not properly developed
socially or morally. She shows no concern for anyone else?s opinion or authority. She makes her
decisions based solely on what she would like to do. She will do anything it takes to make sure
that everything goes her way. For example she completely fabricated a story about her house in
order to get them to drive up the side roads. Her attitude seams to have been the primary cause
everything that went wrong throughout the whole story. The only person she showed any emotion to

How Did Rodgers And Hammerstein Create A Revolution In...
Rodgers and Hammerstein:
Richard Rodgers was only 16 when he began his musical collaboration with Lorenz Hart. Rodgers
was acting as composer and Hart as lyricist. Manhattan was their first breakthrough in 1925 and
other songs including jazz standards such as Blue moon (1934) and My funny valentine (1937), Isn

Hart wrote the music and lyrics for 26 Broadway musicals. Which includes: On your toes (1936),
Babes in Arms (1937) and their last collaboration, A Connecticut Yankee (1943).In 1943 their
collaboration ended due to artistic differences and Hart s declining health. Thus the revolution
within Musical theatre started.
Change Slide:
Hammerstein wrote his own play, called The Light (1919) and was produced by his uncle. In
1920, he collaborated with Rodgers and Hart in writing a Varsity show called Fly with Me.Short
after he dropped out of Grad school to pursue a full time career in Musical theatre. Hammerstein
s first success as a librettist was with Wildflower, a collaboration with Otto Harbach produced in
1923. He achieved more success with 1924 s Rose Marie, which he created in collaboration with

Transportations in Political Structures in China and Japan during the Modern Era Comparative
Essay
1 While Japan and China both had to go through transformations in political
structures in order for them to experience revolutions as a reaction to colonization
attempts during the Modern Era, both nations also had different outcomes due to
revolution. Colonization occurs when there is migration of any one or more groups of
individuals towards a colonial area. Migration is the movement of peoples from one
place to another. These types of movements helped create a revolution. In this paper, I
will be comparing transformations in political structures in Japan in the Meiji Period
(1868 1912) 19th century to China in the Qing Dynasty (1700 s) 18th century. I will be
taking a look at how both Japan and China went through revolutions as a reaction to
colonization attempts, yet both nations had different outcomes due to colonization. There
are also a few other wars I will be discussing in this paper that impacted Japan and China
in those specific eras as well. What were the similarities and differences in Japan during
the 19th early 20th century and China during the 18th century when they went through
transformations in political structures? To begin, we can first

The Between Science And Christianity
I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s.
Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly
responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own
discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach
this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class.
Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he
could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always
receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On
that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but
more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s
insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold
true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based
and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances
were beneficial and true blessings from God. Another vital point of understanding that I base this
reflection upon is the profound belief that that God works his power and purpose through the
means of science as wisdom and hard work is expressed

The Insurgency Of Innovative Gadgets Essay
The insurgency of innovative gadgets began another time on January 27, 2010. At that day, Steve

that netbooks were surly shoddy portable workstations that have low quality showcases with

How Does Technology Affect Independent Films
How has the role of technology affected independent films and their film making process?
The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an
area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio
system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial
releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common
narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a
stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending.
Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom
has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision.
Advances in technical equipment have benefitted the film making process for independent
directors, who are now able to create high quality films on a low budget. In addition to advances in

Knowing that women are not accepted in many male prominent fields today and are often
verbally and physically discouraged from pursuing these careers made me skeptical but also
encouraged me to look into why women aren t joining these fields more. As discouraged as some
of these battles growing up had made me feel I wanted to search further into my future career.
Why is it that women are practically shunned from joining certain fields? It seems to me that this
is due to a bigger picture; women and the act of being feminine has been oppressed in society for
thousands of years in different cultures all over the world. We proudly boast that much of our
society was developed from the ideas of the incredibly intelligent Ancient Greeks. I had thought as
advanced as they were for their time that they would fully welcome women into a variety of
societal roles but even the famous philosopher Aristotle had said The male is by nature superior and
the female inferior...the one rules and the other is ruled. (Canadian Museum). We fail to
acknowledge that even women in Ancient Greek society were just as shunned from societal
influence as I feel we are today. Our society tends to set specific guidelines as to how a gender can
act and these guidelines have been engrained in almost everything we do or see. Our society has
been adopting a patriarch mentality for hundreds of years now and women were not allowed to

The Roles in the Army in the Profession of Arms
In the first section The Army as a Profession of Arms, Toner (2010) said, The preeminent military
task, and what separates the military profession from all other occupations, is that soldiers are
routinely prepared to kill. In addition to murder and preparing to kill, the soldier has two other
principal duties. Some soldiers die and, when they are not dying, they must be preparing to die.
(p.2). I have been in multiple situations where I have either feared for my life or was ready to die
for my country.
How we were raised
We were all raised differently, but we all joined to serve our country. Regardless, of our Military
Occupation Specialty, we all volunteered for the greater good of the nation. The regular day in
the Army for most Soldiers begins with Physical Readiness Training and ends with cleaning up
the area of operation. That is not always the case with other Soldiers. It all depends on the unit. I

HIV has two major types: HIV 1 and HIV 2. HIV 1 has four groups M, N, O and P. These groups
are further classified into subtypes. Group M is a major infecting group worldwide contributing
to 90% of HIV 1 infections. Group M is classified into nine subtypes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J and
K). Subtype B is predominantly found in America and Western Europe. The susceptibility to HIV1
infection, transmission of disease, and response to retroviral therapy depend on the genetic
determinants of the host cell. These genetic determinants vary in populations and among patients.
These genetic variants regulate chemokine co receptors and ligands that involve in the entry of
the virus, major histocompatibility complex, killer cells Ig like receptor and cytokines, and
TRIM5О± motif and apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide like 3G
(Kaur and Mehra, 2009). In genome wide association studies performed in European population, it
was shown that Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I variation (Eg. HLA B*5701) is the
major contributor to viral set point and CD4+ T cell decline (Fellay et al., 2010). Cohort study of
genetic polymorphism in chemokine receptors in Indian population has shown that protective
CCR5 О”32 variant is rare and CCR5HHE carrying *59402A has the high likelihood of infections
(Kaur and Mehra, 2009). HIV Sequence Database contains annotated HIV sequences

Simulation Based Teaching Of Fluid Balance Interpretation...
Simulation Based teaching of fluid balance interpretation and prescription of intravenous fluids
Problem Identification Interpretation of the fluid balance of hospitalized patients and prescription
of intravenous fluids is one of the core clinical skills required for the practice of medicine in
almost every specialty. Failure to follow the best practice guidelines can result in increased
morbidity and mortality in cases of under prescription, over prescription or from prescribing the
wrong type of fluids as highlighted in the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and
Death (NCEPOD) report about the perioperative mortality 1999. [1] The report emphasized on the
importance of fluid prescription and recommended that it should be considered as important as
drug prescription. National guidelines exist for the best practice regarding this matter where it
reports that about 20 % of patients receiving IV fluids suffer an unwanted effect , additionally
those guidelines are supported by local protocols within the individual NHS institutes. Moreover,
most trusts employ a NICE lead for the implementation of the fluid prescription guidelines in
addition to supervising an ongoing auditing process to evaluate local practices. [2]. Despite the
importance of the issue and the resources allocated to the topic; the task of fluid prescribing is often
left to the least trained members of staff to perform, such as the foundation trainees with very
limited training in the subject.

Undecidability in Becket s The Endgame
This paper aims to study postmodern element of undecidability in Samuel Becket s Endgame. As
Butler and Davis holds, What is different about Becket is not that he provokes a critical response ...
but the protean, open ended, undecidable and inexhaustible quality of the challenge he offers (168).
Endgame like Becket s other plays is in a way that, as Wittgenstein notes, is nothing more than
language play between characters and although there are some minor actions there are not in such a
way to affect the play, moreover it is their vague utterances that make the play undecidable for the
reader to make out what is happening. Andrew Bennett and Nicholas Royle in their An Introduction
to Literature, Criticism and Theory explain the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it can not be decided that the play is taking place whether in a physical world that is like a
refuge for characters or as it is mentioned Endgame may be an image for the dissociation of a
human consciousness and dying of mind in a mental setting (56). Nell?s living is also in
question. During the play Hamm asks Clov to check on Nagg and Nell. Clov returns and says
that it appears as if Nell is dead, whereas Nagg is merely crying in his bin. Becket creates doubts
in the reader?s minds, they ask this question from themselves that, what happened for Nell and
is she really dead or not? The other considerable undecided point is about Clov?s leaving.
Throughout the play, he many times tells Hamm that, ?I?ll leave you, I have thing to do?
(Endgame 10) But the reader can not be sure about his leaving when comes to this dialogue:
Clov: So you all want me to leave you. Hamm: Naturally. Clov: Then I?ll leave you. Hamm: You
can?t leave us. Clov: Then I won?t leave you. (2669)In this way, with these indications, the reader
remain doubtful that whether he is leaving Hamm or not, even at the end of the play, though he
dressed and ready to go, he has not yet left (116). At the end it can be concluded that, Samuel
Becket?s Endgame with all these ambiguous and indistinct issues, such as title of

Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions
In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of power and
oppression. Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the people in charge do not
want the oppressed to speak up. In Nervous Conditions, males have much more dominance in
life than females. Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against
oppression, with little success. Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and
Lucia in order to convey how speaking out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to
gain power. Nyasha vocally resists when she feels oppressed because she refuses to accept being
controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to her parents whether she likes it or not. Early
in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should read Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that
contains many Western themes and ideals, because that s not very good...[she doesn t] want
[her] to read books like that . Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about anyway? It s only a book
and I m only reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover causes Maiguru to label it
as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and reading , because these two
words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore gaining power. Maiguru does not want
Nyasha to gain power in the form of ideas that might cause her to rebel against her parents. Nyasha
s confrontational attitude about the book reaffirms Maiguru s belief that it

The Ethics Of Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering has to do with manipulating organisms and DNA to create body characteristics.
The practice of genetic DNA has shown an increasing amount over the past years. The process of
genetic enhancement involves manipulating organisms by using biotechnologies. The technique is
by removing a DNAfrom one life form and transferring it to another set of traits or organism.
Certain barriers are conquered, and the procedure involves changing a form of cells, resulting
from an improvement or developed organism. GMO which is a (Genetic Modified Organisms) is

One of the biggest pictures that are against genetic engineering is that humans are not supposed to
play the role of God. DNA is a unique thing to every person. Bioengineering itself involves the very
technical aspects of modification, and the enhancement of stem cells or DNA and this process can
change the human structure. The progress of civilization has been having been largely dependent
upon the out interference with nature . (Encyclopedia of Applied Plant Sciences).
Biotechnology interventions are used to advance human brains and our future to the extreme. The
process of genetic engineering is very unpredictable and dramatic that it will have a major effect
on its environment. Human genetic manipulation is considered unethical and dangerous for the
most part. Human genetic alteration is illegal in many countries, but it is used in some places to
cure gene diseases. The process of changing the genetic DNA of when a baby is born can be
passed down the line of the persons. Swapping bad and unwanted genes for a better one is part of
the process. There are many potential advantages gained from this operation as well as some
dangers. Considering the ethical implications of the gene enhancement the result might cause a
gene problem. The advanced technology application can make a huge different especially
improving the quality of a human being by fixing an unwanted and inheritable gene defects. Many

The Timeline Of U.s. Healthcare History
The timeline of U.S. healthcare history began with Early American medicine with Native
Americans and common folk practices performed by settlers. Practices included herbal remedies,
procedures such as bleeding, blistering, and purging (Batnitzky, Hayes, Vinall, (2014). Practices
were based on theory and environmental contributors rather than diagnosis of treatment. The First
Marine Hospital fund was signed into law in 1789,creating the beginning of organized medicineand
facilities. The First Marine Hospital fund ensured military members and individuals with federal
eligibility were provided medical treatment and preventive care. Funds in maintaining treatment
facilities was acquired though payroll deductions. This treatment was provided at various hospitals
and facilities. Through growth and expansion, treatment facilities were operated and maintained by
military operations. In 1847, the American Medical Association (AMA) was founded by Dr. Nathan
Davis. Standards and guidelines were determined for the education requirements for medical
professionals, drug manufacturing, preventing disease, sanitation, and in providing higher
standards of treatment and care (American Medical Association [AMA], 2015). In 1872, the
American Public Health Association [APA] was formed in promoting prevention of communicable

Food, Safety, And Justice For All
Food, Safety, and Justice for All
Americans today tend to have confidence that the food they consume is healthy and safe; however,
the reality of what really goes on in the food industry proves something completely different. A
glimpse of this awakening reality was revealed when award winning journalist, Tracie McMillan
embarked on a mission to discover the actuality of the American Food Industry. She managed to
find three jobs related to the food commerce: First she picked crops, next she stocked and sold
produce, and finally she helped prepare food for Applebee s. What stood out the most in her
motivating journey, was that food safety policy was not incorporated in to any of her employment
trainings. Food safety policies are very important to the food industry. The Government created the
policies in place for a reason: the safety of consumers. Corporations should not overlook the
necessity of properly training their employees by providing food safety policies to them. For this
reason the United States Government should enforce stricter audit laws to make sure employers are
properly preparing their employees to enter the workforce.
Every man, woman, and child who visit a restaurant should feel at ease that the food they consume
will be harmless. Americans are entitled to secure food products by the policies that the
Government put in place. But, food safety is not being provided by companies to their employees.
McMillan asserts that while working at Applebee s for two

Analysis Of Jay Z s August 4th
Jay Z s December 4th was the first song on his Black Album, which was released in 2003, during
one of the many peaks in the rapper s career. The song includes his mother talking about his
childhood in between verses and is a very autobiographical song in the sense that he talks about his
life up until he formed the persona that is Jay Z. Although December 4th is thought to have been
about the rappers s presumed retirement, the song does not allude to an end to his rap career,
instead, the December 4th is about the artist s transition from Shawn Carter to Jay Z. He tells the
story, not of the end, but of the beginning of Jay Z and he does this by separating himself from
his former self, Shawn Carter; examining the importance that Carter played in the story of how
Jay Z was born and continues to live. This song is very indicative of a speaker who is narrating
and advising his former self and showing the importance of accepting and how one came to be.
The song begins almost as a confessional, telling his audience about the decisions and choices he
made leading up to the creation of Jay Z . When he says, I m leaving after this song/ So you ain t
gotta feel no way about Jay so long/ At least let me tell you why I m this way, the rapper is
letting his audience know that this song is about his life and the aspects of his upbringing that
lead him to his present life as Jay Z. It is also important to note that the lines above are being told
from the point of view of Carter

The Case Of Feral Children
It is essential to realize that isolation from society breeds dehumanization, a proof of that is the
case of feral children, the ones who had almost no social contact during their infancy. Ones were
even reported to have been raised by wild animals. Take the case of Anna, a girl who had been
kept for almost six years in a dark room, barely fed, neglected completely by her mother. When
she was discovered, she could not speak, walk, not to mention she was indifferent to everything
around her. Her case shows exactly how badly one can be affected by seclusion. However, Silas
Marners situation differs in some respects from the one mentioned previously, since he was an
adult. Yet one cannot help but observe the change in his character and way of being, as he even
started resembling the things to which he was deeply tied, his loom and his gold.
Strangely Marner s face and figure shrank and bent themselves into a constant mechanical relation
to the objects of his life, so that he produced the same sort of impression as a handle or a crooked
tube, which has no meaning standing apart. (Eliot 15)
The third stage is marked by the sequence in which Dunstan stole his gold which also showcased
the aftermath of isolation. This apparent adversity forced him out of his shell, compelled him to
seek help from his neighbours who had almost forgotten him. The theft forced him to reconnect
with the villagers and to find a way to integrate himself. When he decided to go to Rainbow, the

Pro Bono Cons
Introduction The concept of mandatory pro bono and whether or not lawyers should be required to
participate in this public service has been the contentious subject of debate over recent years.
Focusing on Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos statement: In our view not only do lawyers not
have a duty to act for free, but they are misguided in doing so and should, for the long term benefit
of the community, cease engaging in pro bono work, this essay will critically analyse the
implications of introducing mandatory pro bono into the legal profession by examining both the

Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos argue that the introduction of mandatory pro bono will
only encourage the government to continue to decrease it s funding of legal aid services as the
government will further shirk the responsibility onto the legal profession. For example, the
current Australian budget has proposed yet another large decrease in government funding for
2017 2018, this includes the quarantining of some of the community legal centre funding.
Furthermore, it is not fair of the government to place an expectation on the legal to perform legal
services for free when there is no similar altruistic expectation placed on professional from other
areas, such as: physiotherapists, chiropractors, doctors and psychologists. All the services
provided by these other professions for free or at a discount are usually done so because the costs
are then subsidized by the government. The introduction of mandatory pro bono should not be seen
as a means for the government to avoid their responsibility to the legal community, instead if it is
to be introduce it would need to be followed by the agreement of the government to provide more
funding to legal

International Business And Multinational Corporations
The end of the 1980s experienced a visible change experienced in the literature concerning MNE
functions and nature of business (Segal Horn and Faulkner, 2010). Before 1980s, the main
research in MNE field was about analyzing relation between affiliates and headquarters of the firm,
and also decisions concerning making investment in foreign country, which was also experienced
in Dunning s work. After that, the focus was shifted to operations concerning coordination in
management of a network of affiliates of an MNE and analysis of the competitive advantages

Their main aim is to maximize the competitive advantage for the particular MNE through
integration of global activities and local differences within each foreign unit. In the modern
perspective, two main theories, i.e. network based theory and knowledge based theory of MNE, are
prevalent, which are explained hereunder (Forsgren, 2008).
The most importance sources of competitive advantage for MNEs are their affiliates. This is
because affiliates establish a deep rooted and long term connection with their local partners and
through this new knowledge information can be established. Such knowledge is implicit and is
inserted in a particular context. Inserted or embedded knowledge itself is implicit and is also
specific to a context (Pedersen, 2014). It is also entrenched in the inter dependent activities of the
employees and staff members who observe shared experiences as well as values. These traits cause
more complexity and confusions in terms of barriers for transferability of such knowledge
(Stephan, 2013). This affiliate embeddedness in relation with stakeholders within the business
network actually opposes business contact made traditionally, in which firm used to make
connections with only consumers and suppliers and relation used to end with the exchange
(Lundan, 2002). Similarly, some of these relationships with affiliates are established gradually with

Comparing John Maynard Keynes And F. A. Hayek
In the face of a complex world, it is often difficult for both individuals and governing bodies to find
the best way to live and rule. Many great thinkers have attempted to make sense of the world with
organized systems that raise the question of what role humans hold within that structure. Friedrich
Nietzsche creates an overarching view of existence in which individuals are responsible for their
own lives, subsequently creating their own realities. For Nietzsche, human agency is the only
system. On the other hand, John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek create financial systems that
take opposing stances on whether free will helps or hurts the economy. In this essay, I will show

doesn t rely on natural balance like classical theory or the government as an ever present safeguard

must swallow the bitter pill of tough times in order to keep their free will (Wise). A strong

one of the factors and write a paragraph describing it in detail.
p. 298 307 At the 9th edition of the book, it says that there are five factors that influence effective
curriculum. First, inclusive curriculum is a curriculum that is designed for all children in terms of
their gender, abilities, disabilities, language, culture, ethnicity, and religion according to the

children in terms of the activities and materials. Second, integrated curriculum is a curriculum that

areas of study that will support their learning. Third, emergent curriculum is a process of
curriculum based on teacher s observation and children s interests, learning, and the ability to make
choices. Fourth, multiple intelligence is where children have various kinds of intelligence, such as
linguistic intelligence, logical mathematical, spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal,
intrapersonal, naturalistic, and existential. Fifth, children have different methods of learning, such
as the visual, auditory and tactile kinesthetic learner. I choose Multiple Intelligence to describe it in

Consciousness Is The Subjective Perception Of The Self Essay
Consciousness has been referred to as the hard problem and still remains to be one of the most
baffling conundrums of our generation. Consciousness is the subjective perception of the self.
Consciousness allows us to feel happy, to solve problems, and to create memories.
Consciousness has historically laid beyond the confines of science. Rene Descartes, a French
philosopher, laid down the foundation of the study of consciousness by reflecting on what it meant
to be conscious. Descartes was the one who introduced the idea of the mind as separate from the
body, otherwise known as Cartesian Dualism. Descartes several theories sparked major
controversy and discussion about consciousness. During the twentieth century, consciousness
was seen as a taboo because usage of the word became overused and there was no precise way to
describe it, so the word was banned . Consciousness is a psychological construct because of its
difficulty to be observed and measured, which is why it can easily be seen as a taboo.
Consciousness has gradually became easier to define, and because it is now accepted in the world
of science, it has begun to address some of the most challenging questions of our time.
Since consciousness is now at the forefront of neuroscientific research , neuroscientists are able to
address daunting questions like that of vegetative patients and whether they are conscious, how to
diagnose these patients, and whether or not there are therapeutic interventions available,

Our base case valuation (APV) was $46.11 per share
Our base case valuation (WACC) was $40.92 per share
Our assumptions and calculations leading up to these valuations are outlined in our exhibits 1

We have specified the sources of our assumptions in exhibit 1, with a detailed segment on

Upon arriving at $46.11 (APV) and $40.92 (WACC) valuations for Paramount, we noticed that
these valuations were at a discount to the market price of $55.50.
Our reconciliation for this undervaluation is that the market is already pricing in a takeover.
Some evidence of this can be demonstrated by the 1.0 beta of paramount. If we look at the 1992 Q1

The aim of the present study is to formulate a dual therapy of peptic ulcer containing antimicrobial
agent amoxicillin and anti secretory agent pantoprazole, utilizing the concept of bi layer tablet
system for the effective treatment of H. pylori associated gastric/duodenal ulcer, in an attempt to
improve bioavailability and to get maximum therapeutic benefits and patient compliance about
the treatment. Different formulas of 575 mg amoxicillin were prepared as sustained release
layer by wet granulation method and different formulas of 40 mg pantoprazole in form of
immeadeaye release was prepared as extended release matrix layer by direct compression
technique. The results showed that formulas prepared with Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose
(HPMC K100M) and xanthan gum and acasia as binder was capable to retard the release of
Amoxicillin and Pantoprazole for 12 hr and 8hr respectably which according to dosing
frequency of amoxicillin in treatment of peptic ulcer (twice daily) it will prevent drug free

There are two types of deep sea vents: a new classification discovered with carbonate chimneys,
later dubbed the Lost City Hydrothermal Field (LCHF) and black smokers (Martin et al., 2008,
p.805). The LCHF s atmosphere revealed a lava composition similar to eruptions within
primordial Earth oceans. During the Hadean Era...(explain how oceans were then)*. The LCHF
is off axis, meaning when the sea floor began to spread, the field s vents formed irregular to
other black smoker deep sea vents (Martin et al., 2008, p.805 06). As a result of being off axis,
near its spreading zone, the LCHF is exposed to heat from the mantle and possibly other
chemical reactions take place (Martin et al., 2008, p.806). These chemical reactions result in high
magnesium and iron deposits around the LCHF, creating a high alkaline level (pH 9 11) (Martin
et al., 2008, p.806). Cascaded from the LCHF vents is a mixture of H2 and CH4, but little CO2,
making some question whether CO2 is required for abiotic synthesis or if the surrounding
environment still provides the conditions for the process (Martin et al., 2008,

The Fight Against Poverty Around The World
One of the most important steps in the fight against poverty around the world is the creation of
jobs. The most competitive and successful in this direction is the social entrepreneurship. The task
of the social enterprises is to contribute to the solving of the social problems and promoting of the
people s livelihood. Social enterprises provide jobs for hundreds of thousands of people in the
various fields: food production, marketing, credit, insurance, and transportation. The social
enterprises open a variety of employment opportunities for the people with disabilities,
marginalized groups, youth, and women. In many countries the social enterprises are working
closely together with the governmental organizations, both at national and local level. Today,
entrepreneurs and enterprises with social responsibility around the world receive support from the
non profit organizations, foundations, governments, and individuals. However, despite the fact that
the benefits of social entrepreneurship are clear to many, there are many difficulties with its
development. There is still not reached a consensus on what social enterpriseis and who can be
called a social entrepreneur. Some believe that the term social entrepreneur must refer only to the
founding organizations, the main source of income of which is the payment of their clients. Others
believe that the social entrepreneur is one who performs work on the government contracts, and still
others believe the social

Hae Min Lee Thesis Statement
Think about how often people get arrested and how often trials are held every year, let alone
every day. Oftentimes, innocent people are accused and charged for a crime that wasn t their
fault. This was the case for Adnan Syed, an innocent guy who was put in jail for a murder case.
On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was murdered at the age of 17. The evidence in this case was
very unexplainable, but of course, the state went after Hae s ex boyfriend Adnan who really had
nothing to do with the murder. Things that prove Adnan s innocence are the breakup between him
and Hae, how Adnan thought about and his feelings towards Hae, how the times and stories told
with others didn t suit well, and his alibi. Additionally, his DNA didn t match with items... Show

Adnan expresses, No way did I, and I m pretty sure they didn t either, imagine that she would turn
up, dead, murdered, her body would be found. (ep. 9). According to Adnan, when he found out
that Hae s dead body was found he didn t believe it. When he found out, he actually called the
police to tell them there had to be a miscalculation and that they got the wrong person. Adnan
was genuinely sorrowful and perplexed when he was told that Hae was dead. In all likelihood, if
he would have killed her, he he wouldn t have expressed the emotions and actions he did. I
understood they were asking questions, but not that they actually thought that I killed Hae. (ep.9).
Adnan goes on to say that the day he got arrested, he didn t even consider himself to be a possible
suspect for murdering Hae. On account of Adnan not thinking the police were at his house to arrest
him for this crime shows how the only thing he had tied to this case was that he was Hae s most

The Swarm Examples
A question that continually appears throughout this book is; what/who is the Swarm? Possible
explanations to the Swarm is that the Swarm is a cluster of mechanically engineered robots that
are able to take the form of anything the owner chooses. Some examples to this robot theory is
that; Flicker, a blind girl that is able to see through the eyes of any living thing, was unable to cast
her vision into the eyes of what was charging at the group. This states that the Swarm is not a
human or an animal of any kind. Secondly, Crash, the groups only resident that controls technology,
was having a meltdown as the Swarm passed her. That only happens when an abundant amount of
technology is involved. Lastly, Kelsie felt the high energy that ran through

Comparing Richard Serra And Barbara Hepworth
In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting the works of Richard Serra and Barbara
Hepworth. Richard Serra is an American artist and sculptor of the Post Abstract Expressionist
period. Serra was influenced by artists such as Picasso, Brancusi, and Julio Gonzalez. Serra went
along with contemporary ideas, ones that suggested that human bodies are no longer relevant in art
and sculpture. He created artworks that fit well with a specific setting, which are today known as
installations. Barbara Hepworth was an English artist and sculptor. Her work portrays Modernism
and in particular modern sculpture. Barbara Hepworth was interested in naturalism of figures and
their forms and textures. Her early works were very naturalistic and simplistic.... Show more content

Both Richard Serra and Barbara Hepworth s works have a sense of abstract to them. The use of
circular shapes in the formation of the Torqued Ellipse and the circles applied in the Two
Figures create an abstract feel for both works. Also the curves on the sides of the Two Figures,
creates an abstract expression. Both sculptures also shared the element of space in their
formation. The setting, or the environment of both sculptures also play a huge role on the way
the audience perceive the artworks. Another component the two sculptures share in common is
the idea of naturalism. The Torqued Ellipse has a sense of naturalism in it because of the way it
is positioned in the area. The Two Figures, as well have a naturalistic feeling because of the
organic shapes of the two figures. Both sculptures also work with similar medias; metals. The
Torqued Ellipse is made out of waterproof steel, and the Two Figures is made from bronze. The
two sculptures also share a simplistic and minimalistic essence. Although the two sculptures may
seem very simple with their use of basic, earth colors, their sizes and where they are positioned is
what makes them stand out. The lack of attention to detail is also a similarity the two sculptures
have in common. Although both sculptures lack detail and texture, scale is the focal element in
both pieces of

Alcl3 Lipid Case Study
Results Lipid Peroxidation and nitric oxide: The present findings showed that the daily oral
administration of AlCl3 induced a significant increase in the levels of cortical, hippocampal and
striatal lipid peroxidation marker MDA recording +55.20%, +128.32% and +427.39%,
respectively above the control values. In addition, NO level increased significantly by +100%,
+72.22% and +57.14%, in the cortex, hippocampus and striatum respectively of AlCl3 treated rats.
Protection of AlCl3 intoxicated rats with caffeine attenuated the increased values of MDA and
NO in the studied brain regions to non significant changes from the control (Figure 1). Reduced
glutathione: In AlCl3 intoxicated rats, the GSH levels showed a significant increase in the cortex
(+10.41%) and a significant decrease in both hippocampus ( 27.03%) and striatum ( 12.04%) as
compared to control group. In the cortex the increased GSH level continued after caffeine
protection. In addition, caffeine maintained the decreased level of striatal GSH. However, caffeine
protection improved the significant decrease induced by AlCl3 in hippocampal GSH level (Figure

Plea Bargaining Argumentative Analysis
Plea bargaining is an arrangement between a prosecutor and defendant, whereby the defendant
pleads guilty to a charge in order to be given a less severe punishment (Merriam Webster, 2016).
There are two main reasons why plea bargaining continues to play a role in the justice system; it
claims to increase certainty and save the time and expenses of a criminal trial. Although plea
bargaining has been proven to be effectual, there are many negative effects of plea bargaining.
It is morally and ethically wrong because the option of negotiating a crime that should be
punishable to the full extent of the law is unconstitutional.
It also does not provide benefits for individuals who are innocent.
Plea bargaining also does not provide justice to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plea bargains compromise justice by allowing the guilty to receive minimal sentences for
heinous crimes and instills fear in the innocent. The implication that crimes are tolerable causes
criminals to only be held responsible for a small portion of the crime. Karla Homolka and Paul
Bernardo, known as the Ken and Barbie killers , raped numerous teenage girls in the
Scarborough area from 1987 to 1995 when they were finally convicted. These two individuals
remain one of the most notorious killers in Canada s history because of their unjustifiable
murders to three young women, including Homolka s own little sister. Paul Bernardo, often
referred to as the Scarborough Rapist , began raping women in the Scarborough area
(MacQuarrie 239). When Homolka and Paul met each other, she encouraged his sexual fantasies
and played a major role in the raping and murders of three teenage girls; Tammy Homolka, 15,
Leslie Mahaffy, 14, and Kristen French, 15 (Mellor 312 318). In 1990, Homolka and Bernardo
took the life of Karla s fifteen year old sister, Tammy Homolka. Karla wanted to give Tammy s,
her younger sisters, virginity to Paul for Christmas, hence, they caused her to be highly intoxicated
and slipped valium into her drink. Subsequently, they vaginally and anally raped her for about a
minute until she began to vomit. Tammy choked on her own vomit and died as a result of this

Their writings, Kinder, Kuche, Kirche as Scientific Law: Psychology Constructs the Female and Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape , found in the anthology Feminism in Our Time , reflected how throughout the 20th century, popular medical and psychological models were centered around men which resulted in women receiving inaccurate and inappropriate treatments. They argued that the oppression of women was perpetuated through false narratives under the guise of science but with no empirical evidence. Both Weisstein and Brownmiller harshly criticized the popular use of Freudian theories which influenced many aspects of society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Communication And Complex Communication Complex Communication Where humans are today is an absolute miracle significantly due to the process of collective learning. Collective learning is how individuals learned to do many fundamental tasks and how various cultures in the world developed. Early evidence of collective learning was found by archaeologists when they discovered human skulls that dated back about 200,000 years ago. These skulls had a more flexible jaw allowing those early humans to speak vocally. (Early Evidence of Collective Learning, Big History Project). Languages allowed humans to share information with each other and pass down information across countless generations. Humans have cultivated a complex and well defined language that has allowed for collective learning in which we can progress much further as a society than any other animal group has. All living beings have communication but what s special about human communication is that there are elaborate languages. These elaborate languages have a lot of flexibility to the point where new words are made and added constantly (Text 8). However, in other organisms that doesn t happen because they keep on communicating in a stagnant language. For example, bacteria can communicate by producing distinctive organic molecules that have specialized receptors. These receptors allow bacteria to detect the presence of other bacteria (Text 1). This is important to bacteria because it lets them detect other bacteria and usually bacteria want to be in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Report On Japanese Tea As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907). During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, teawas esteemed for its medicinal value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in Japan was created 1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story is that he would have a daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a cave. In his own personal journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea to ease the pain. Eventually, he came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes would not close. Supposedly, on the place where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes appeared. From this legend, it was reported that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he was an important role model. (Hays, 2013) Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then crushed into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred into the hot water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Role Of Emotions Of Memory And Learning Role of Emotions in Memory and Learning Name Institution Course Date Introduction Think back to one of your earliest memories, perhaps a memory of being frightened as a young child, or being delighted by a new experience or sensation. Why is it that we remember certain events in our life that are triggered by a deep or intense emotion, but we cannot remember what we had for lunch last Tuesday? The way in which we relate to the world is so heavily influenced by our memories, and in part by the emotions in which we felt when we experienced said event. If once as a teen you were nearly hit by a car when crossing a road, you future interactions with road crossings is probably going to be a slightly more heightened event than if you had never experienced such an event. The same phenomenon is evident in the way in which we learn also. If you had to write an English paper as a teen about the turbulent love story of Romeo and Juliet whilst experiencing a breakup with your high school sweetheart, the story will probably be attached in your memory forever, even more so because the emotions expressed in the story are very similar to what you yourself are experiencing. We have all had the experience of hearing a certain song or smelling a certain perfume whilst we are experiencing an intense, mind rattling emotion hearing said song in the future could be like reliving the entire event, physiologically and mentally. So why is it that we can recall events or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The coefficient of determination (R2) of the model was 0.91, which indicated that the model could represent the real relationships among the selected reaction variables. Based on the ANOVA study of SPHP and the Model F value of 49.87, the developed model was significant. There was only a 0.01% chance that a Model F Value this large could happen due to noise. In SPH system, first plot on the left showed the interaction of persulfate and heat amount, it was obvious that any increment was beneficial to the better sugar yield. At 80 В°C, the glucose yield increased from 10% to 18%, while the persulfate concentration increased from 0.6 M to 1.1 M for 60 min. The same pattern was observed for the interaction of persulfate content with time and temperature with time. It suggests increasing the time of reaction will increase the potential of SPH system for wheat straw pretreatment. The Cambridge Dictionary defines narcissism as too much interest in and admiration for your own physical appearance and/or your own abilities It is ironic because she would be expected to look out for her family, however in reality she only really looks out for herself. The grandmother is certainly guilty of both. The grandmother was like a child she would do anything she possibly could to get what she wanted. She showed no regard for the people who love her. Although it was unintentional it is hard not to blame everything that went wrong in the story on the grandmother. She was the cause of all of the tension in the car; she was also the one who wanted to go up the side roads. Of not for the grandmother the cat would not have been in the car so they probably would not have crashed. Once they confronted the Misfit she still did nothing to help save her family. She showed them no regard and just looked out for herself. The grandmother is a very immature woman. She acts as if she has not properly developed socially or morally. She shows no concern for anyone else?s opinion or authority. She makes her decisions based solely on what she would like to do. She will do anything it takes to make sure that everything goes her way. For example she completely fabricated a story about her house in order to get them to drive up the side roads. The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending. Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision. • 22. Genetic Determinants Of Hiv Infection Genetic determinants of HIV infection: HIV has two major types: HIV 1 and HIV 2. HIV 1 has four groups M, N, O and P. These groups are further classified into subtypes. Group M is a major infecting group worldwide contributing to 90% of HIV 1 infections. Group M is classified into nine subtypes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J and K). Subtype B is predominantly found in America and Western Europe. The susceptibility to HIV1 infection, transmission of disease, and response to retroviral therapy depend on the genetic determinants of the host cell. These genetic determinants vary in populations and among patients. These genetic variants regulate chemokine co receptors and ligands that involve in the entry of the virus, major histocompatibility complex, killer cells Ig like receptor and cytokines, and TRIM5О± motif and apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide like 3G (Kaur and Mehra, 2009). In genome wide association studies performed in European population, it was shown that Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I variation (Eg. HLA B*5701) is the major contributor to viral set point and CD4+ T cell decline (Fellay et al., 2010). Cohort study of genetic polymorphism in chemokine receptors in Indian population has shown that protective CCR5 О”32 variant is rare and CCR5HHE carrying *59402A has the high likelihood of infections (Kaur and Mehra, 2009). • 23. Simulation Based Teaching Of Fluid Balance Interpretation... Simulation Based teaching of fluid balance interpretation and prescription of intravenous fluids Problem Identification Interpretation of the fluid balance of hospitalized patients and prescription of intravenous fluids is one of the core clinical skills required for the practice of medicine in almost every specialty. Failure to follow the best practice guidelines can result in increased morbidity and mortality in cases of under prescription, over prescription or from prescribing the wrong type of fluids as highlighted in the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) report about the perioperative mortality 1999. [1] The report emphasized on the importance of fluid prescription and recommended that it should be considered as important as drug prescription. National guidelines exist for the best practice regarding this matter where it reports that about 20 % of patients receiving IV fluids suffer an unwanted effect , additionally those guidelines are supported by local protocols within the individual NHS institutes. Moreover, most trusts employ a NICE lead for the implementation of the fluid prescription guidelines in addition to supervising an ongoing auditing process to evaluate local practices. [2]. Despite the importance of the issue and the resources allocated to the topic; the task of fluid prescribing is often left to the least trained members of staff to perform, such as the foundation trainees with very limited training in the subject. ... • 24. Undecidability in Becket s The Endgame This paper aims to study postmodern element of undecidability in Samuel Becket s Endgame. As Butler and Davis holds, What is different about Becket is not that he provokes a critical response ... but the protean, open ended, undecidable and inexhaustible quality of the challenge he offers (168). Endgame like Becket s other plays is in a way that, as Wittgenstein notes, is nothing more than language play between characters and although there are some minor actions there are not in such a way to affect the play, moreover it is their vague utterances that make the play undecidable for the reader to make out what is happening. Andrew Bennett and Nicholas Royle in their An Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory explain the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So it can not be decided that the play is taking place whether in a physical world that is like a refuge for characters or as it is mentioned Endgame may be an image for the dissociation of a human consciousness and dying of mind in a mental setting (56). Nell?s living is also in question. During the play Hamm asks Clov to check on Nagg and Nell. Clov returns and says that it appears as if Nell is dead, whereas Nagg is merely crying in his bin. Becket creates doubts in the reader?s minds, they ask this question from themselves that, what happened for Nell and is she really dead or not? The other considerable undecided point is about Clov?s leaving. Throughout the play, he many times tells Hamm that, ?I?ll leave you, I have thing to do? (Endgame 10) But the reader can not be sure about his leaving when comes to this dialogue: Clov: So you all want me to leave you. Hamm: Naturally. Clov: Then I?ll leave you. Hamm: You can?t leave us. Clov: Then I won?t leave you. (2669)In this way, with these indications, the reader remain doubtful that whether he is leaving Hamm or not, even at the end of the play, though he dressed and ready to go, he has not yet left (116). • 25. Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of power and oppression. Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the people in charge do not want the oppressed to speak up. In Nervous Conditions, males have much more dominance in life than females. Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against oppression, with little success. Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia in order to convey how speaking out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to gain power. Nyasha vocally resists when she feels oppressed because she refuses to accept being controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to her parents whether she likes it or not. Early in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should read Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that contains many Western themes and ideals, because that s not very good...[she doesn t] want [her] to read books like that . Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about anyway? It s only a book and I m only reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover causes Maiguru to label it as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and reading , because these two words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore gaining power. Food, Safety, And Justice For All Food, Safety, and Justice for All Americans today tend to have confidence that the food they consume is healthy and safe; however, the reality of what really goes on in the food industry proves something completely different. A glimpse of this awakening reality was revealed when award winning journalist, Tracie McMillan embarked on a mission to discover the actuality of the American Food Industry. She managed to find three jobs related to the food commerce: First she picked crops, next she stocked and sold produce, and finally she helped prepare food for Applebee s. What stood out the most in her motivating journey, was that food safety policy was not incorporated in to any of her employment trainings. Food safety policies are very important to the food industry. The Government created the policies in place for a reason: the safety of consumers. Corporations should not overlook the necessity of properly training their employees by providing food safety policies to them. For this reason the United States Government should enforce stricter audit laws to make sure employers are properly preparing their employees to enter the workforce. Every man, woman, and child who visit a restaurant should feel at ease that the food they consume will be harmless. The song includes his mother talking about his childhood in between verses and is a very autobiographical song in the sense that he talks about his life up until he formed the persona that is Jay Z. Although December 4th is thought to have been about the rappers s presumed retirement, the song does not allude to an end to his rap career, instead, the December 4th is about the artist s transition from Shawn Carter to Jay Z. He tells the story, not of the end, but of the beginning of Jay Z and he does this by separating himself from his former self, Shawn Carter; examining the importance that Carter played in the story of how Jay Z was born and continues to live. This song is very indicative of a speaker who is narrating and advising his former self and showing the importance of accepting and how one came to be. The song begins almost as a confessional, telling his audience about the decisions and choices he made leading up to the creation of Jay Z . When he says, I m leaving after this song/ So you ain t gotta feel no way about Jay so long/ At least let me tell you why I m this way, the rapper is letting his audience know that this song is about his life and the aspects of his upbringing that lead him to his present life as Jay Z. The Case Of Feral Children It is essential to realize that isolation from society breeds dehumanization, a proof of that is the case of feral children, the ones who had almost no social contact during their infancy. Ones were even reported to have been raised by wild animals. Take the case of Anna, a girl who had been kept for almost six years in a dark room, barely fed, neglected completely by her mother. When she was discovered, she could not speak, walk, not to mention she was indifferent to everything around her. Her case shows exactly how badly one can be affected by seclusion. However, Silas Marners situation differs in some respects from the one mentioned previously, since he was an adult. Yet one cannot help but observe the change in his character and way of being, as he even started resembling the things to which he was deeply tied, his loom and his gold. Strangely Marner s face and figure shrank and bent themselves into a constant mechanical relation to the objects of his life, so that he produced the same sort of impression as a handle or a crooked tube, which has no meaning standing apart. (Eliot 15) The third stage is marked by the sequence in which Dunstan stole his gold which also showcased the aftermath of isolation. The theft forced him to reconnect with the villagers and to find a way to integrate himself. When he decided to go to Rainbow, the place where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos argue that the introduction of mandatory pro bono will only encourage the government to continue to decrease it s funding of legal aid services as the government will further shirk the responsibility onto the legal profession. For example, the current Australian budget has proposed yet another large decrease in government funding for 2017 2018, this includes the quarantining of some of the community legal centre funding. Furthermore, it is not fair of the government to place an expectation on the legal to perform legal services for free when there is no similar altruistic expectation placed on professional from other areas, such as: physiotherapists, chiropractors, doctors and psychologists. All the services provided by these other professions for free or at a discount are usually done so because the costs are then subsidized by the government. In the modern perspective, two main theories, i.e. network based theory and knowledge based theory of MNE, are prevalent, which are explained hereunder (Forsgren, 2008). The most importance sources of competitive advantage for MNEs are their affiliates. This is because affiliates establish a deep rooted and long term connection with their local partners and through this new knowledge information can be established. Such knowledge is implicit and is inserted in a particular context. Inserted or embedded knowledge itself is implicit and is also specific to a context (Pedersen, 2014). It is also entrenched in the inter dependent activities of the employees and staff members who observe shared experiences as well as values. These traits cause more complexity and confusions in terms of barriers for transferability of such knowledge (Stephan, 2013). This affiliate embeddedness in relation with stakeholders within the business network actually opposes business contact made traditionally, in which firm used to make connections with only consumers and suppliers and relation used to end with the exchange (Lundan, 2002). Friedrich Nietzsche creates an overarching view of existence in which individuals are responsible for their own lives, subsequently creating their own realities. Consciousness Is The Subjective Perception Of The Self Essay Consciousness has been referred to as the hard problem and still remains to be one of the most baffling conundrums of our generation. Consciousness is the subjective perception of the self. Consciousness allows us to feel happy, to solve problems, and to create memories. Consciousness has historically laid beyond the confines of science. Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, laid down the foundation of the study of consciousness by reflecting on what it meant to be conscious. Descartes was the one who introduced the idea of the mind as separate from the body, otherwise known as Cartesian Dualism. Descartes several theories sparked major controversy and discussion about consciousness. During the twentieth century, consciousness was seen as a taboo because usage of the word became overused and there was no precise way to describe it, so the word was banned . The LCHF is off axis, meaning when the sea floor began to spread, the field s vents formed irregular to other black smoker deep sea vents (Martin et al., 2008, p.805 06). As a result of being off axis, near its spreading zone, the LCHF is exposed to heat from the mantle and possibly other chemical reactions take place (Martin et al., 2008, p.806). These chemical reactions result in high magnesium and iron deposits around the LCHF, creating a high alkaline level (pH 9 11) (Martin et al., 2008, p.806). Cascaded from the LCHF vents is a mixture of H2 and CH4, but little CO2, making some question whether CO2 is required for abiotic synthesis or if the surrounding environment still provides the conditions for the process (Martin et al., 2008, ... • 44. The Fight Against Poverty Around The World One of the most important steps in the fight against poverty around the world is the creation of jobs. The most competitive and successful in this direction is the social entrepreneurship. The task of the social enterprises is to contribute to the solving of the social problems and promoting of the people s livelihood. Social enterprises provide jobs for hundreds of thousands of people in the various fields: food production, marketing, credit, insurance, and transportation. The social enterprises open a variety of employment opportunities for the people with disabilities, marginalized groups, youth, and women. In many countries the social enterprises are working closely together with the governmental organizations, both at national and local level. Today, entrepreneurs and enterprises with social responsibility around the world receive support from the non profit organizations, foundations, governments, and individuals. However, despite the fact that the benefits of social entrepreneurship are clear to many, there are many difficulties with its development. There is still not reached a consensus on what social enterpriseis and who can be called a social entrepreneur. Some believe that the term social entrepreneur must refer only to the founding organizations, the main source of income of which is the payment of their clients. Others believe that the social entrepreneur is one who performs work on the government contracts, and still others believe the social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Hae Min Lee Thesis Statement Think about how often people get arrested and how often trials are held every year, let alone every day. Oftentimes, innocent people are accused and charged for a crime that wasn t their fault. This was the case for Adnan Syed, an innocent guy who was put in jail for a murder case. On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was murdered at the age of 17. The evidence in this case was very unexplainable, but of course, the state went after Hae s ex boyfriend Adnan who really had nothing to do with the murder. Things that prove Adnan s innocence are the breakup between him and Hae, how Adnan thought about and his feelings towards Hae, how the times and stories told with others didn t suit well, and his alibi. Additionally, his DNA didn t match with items... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adnan expresses, No way did I, and I m pretty sure they didn t either, imagine that she would turn up, dead, murdered, her body would be found. (ep. 9). According to Adnan, when he found out that Hae s dead body was found he didn t believe it. When he found out, he actually called the police to tell them there had to be a miscalculation and that they got the wrong person. Adnan was genuinely sorrowful and perplexed when he was told that Hae was dead. In all likelihood, if he would have killed her, he he wouldn t have expressed the emotions and actions he did. I understood they were asking questions, but not that they actually thought that I killed Hae. (ep.9). Adnan goes on to say that the day he got arrested, he didn t even consider himself to be a possible suspect for murdering Hae. On account of Adnan not thinking the police were at his house to arrest him for this crime shows how the only thing he had tied to this case was that he was Hae s most recent ... • 46. The Swarm Examples A question that continually appears throughout this book is; what/who is the Swarm? Possible explanations to the Swarm is that the Swarm is a cluster of mechanically engineered robots that are able to take the form of anything the owner chooses. Some examples to this robot theory is that; Flicker, a blind girl that is able to see through the eyes of any living thing, was unable to cast her vision into the eyes of what was charging at the group. This states that the Swarm is not a human or an animal of any kind. Secondly, Crash, the groups only resident that controls technology, was having a meltdown as the Swarm passed her. That only happens when an abundant amount of technology is involved. Lastly, Kelsie felt the high energy that ran through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Comparing Richard Serra And Barbara Hepworth In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting the works of Richard Serra and Barbara Hepworth. Richard Serra is an American artist and sculptor of the Post Abstract Expressionist period. Serra was influenced by artists such as Picasso, Brancusi, and Julio Gonzalez. Serra went along with contemporary ideas, ones that suggested that human bodies are no longer relevant in art and sculpture. He created artworks that fit well with a specific setting, which are today known as installations. Barbara Hepworth was an English artist and sculptor. Her work portrays Modernism and in particular modern sculpture. Barbara Hepworth was interested in naturalism of figures and their forms and textures. Her early works were very naturalistic and simplistic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Richard Serra and Barbara Hepworth s works have a sense of abstract to them. The use of circular shapes in the formation of the Torqued Ellipse and the circles applied in the Two Figures create an abstract feel for both works. Also the curves on the sides of the Two Figures, creates an abstract expression. Both sculptures also shared the element of space in their formation. The setting, or the environment of both sculptures also play a huge role on the way the audience perceive the artworks. Another component the two sculptures share in common is the idea of naturalism. The Torqued Ellipse has a sense of naturalism in it because of the way it is positioned in the area. The Two Figures, as well have a naturalistic feeling because of the organic shapes of the two figures. Both sculptures also work with similar medias; metals. The Torqued Ellipse is made out of waterproof steel, and the Two Figures is made from bronze. The two sculptures also share a simplistic and minimalistic essence. Although the two sculptures may seem very simple with their use of basic, earth colors, their sizes and where they are positioned is what makes them stand out. The lack of attention to detail is also a similarity the two sculptures have in common. Although both sculptures lack detail and texture, scale is the focal element in both pieces of ... • 48. Alcl3 Lipid Case Study Results Lipid Peroxidation and nitric oxide: The present findings showed that the daily oral administration of AlCl3 induced a significant increase in the levels of cortical, hippocampal and striatal lipid peroxidation marker MDA recording +55.20%, +128.32% and +427.39%, respectively above the control values. In addition, NO level increased significantly by +100%, +72.22% and +57.14%, in the cortex, hippocampus and striatum respectively of AlCl3 treated rats. Protection of AlCl3 intoxicated rats with caffeine attenuated the increased values of MDA and NO in the studied brain regions to non significant changes from the control (Figure 1). Reduced glutathione: In AlCl3 intoxicated rats, the GSH levels showed a significant increase in the cortex (+10.41%) and a significant decrease in both hippocampus ( 27.03%) and striatum ( 12.04%) as compared to control group. In the cortex the increased GSH level continued after caffeine protection. In addition, caffeine maintained the decreased level of striatal GSH. However, caffeine protection improved the significant decrease induced by AlCl3 in hippocampal GSH level (Figure 1).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 49. Plea Bargaining Argumentative Analysis Plea bargaining is an arrangement between a prosecutor and defendant, whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a charge in order to be given a less severe punishment (Merriam Webster, 2016). There are two main reasons why plea bargaining continues to play a role in the justice system; it claims to increase certainty and save the time and expenses of a criminal trial. Although plea bargaining has been proven to be effectual, there are many negative effects of plea bargaining. It is morally and ethically wrong because the option of negotiating a crime that should be punishable to the full extent of the law is unconstitutional. It also does not provide benefits for individuals who are innocent. Plea bargaining also does not provide justice to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plea bargains compromise justice by allowing the guilty to receive minimal sentences for heinous crimes and instills fear in the innocent. The implication that crimes are tolerable causes criminals to only be held responsible for a small portion of the crime. Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo, known as the Ken and Barbie killers , raped numerous teenage girls in the Scarborough area from 1987 to 1995 when they were finally convicted. These two individuals remain one of the most notorious killers in Canada s history because of their unjustifiable murders to three young women, including Homolka s own little sister. Paul Bernardo, often referred to as the Scarborough Rapist , began raping women in the Scarborough area (MacQuarrie 239). When Homolka and Paul met each other, she encouraged his sexual fantasies and played a major role in the raping and murders of three teenage girls; Tammy Homolka, 15, Leslie Mahaffy, 14, and Kristen French, 15 (Mellor 312 318). In 1990, Homolka and Bernardo took the life of Karla s fifteen year old sister, Tammy Homolka. Karla wanted to give Tammy s, her younger sisters, virginity to Paul for Christmas, hence, they caused her to be highly intoxicated and slipped valium into her drink. Subsequently, they vaginally and anally raped her for about a minute until she began to vomit. Tammy choked on her own vomit and died as a result of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
