Since 1956, Bloom’s taxonomy has been a foundational concept for learning and teaching. Yet most of us today associate Bloom’s taxonomy with the sometimes tedious task of writing learning outcomes. In this presentation, Dr Lincoln Gomes and Anselm Paul demonstrate the usefulness of Bloom’s taxonomy. Together, they demonstrate how Bloom’s taxonomy can be used to design lessons that will engage your learners. They also show how Bloom’s taxonomy can be used to make sense of ‘flipped’ learning.

As concerns about COVID continue to impact planning for the fall term, it appears likely that online learning will play a significant role in course delivery. For many instructors, developing and teaching an online course will be a new experience. The same will be true for many incoming students who are now facing the potential that their entire fall term may be delivered in a format that they are unfamiliar with. As their instructor, there are some strategies you can employ that can help alleviate the fears and concerns learners new to online learning may have about taking online courses. In this session, we'll take a look at the student experience taking an online course for the first time. What are some of the common challenges many will face? What kind of impact is COVID having on their learning experience, and what are some practical ways through course design and facilitation that you can help ensure they will be successful learners.

Most students said they took online courses because of the flexible schedule, and some older students said they preferred a virtual classroom because they didn’t have to interact with their younger classmates. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, suddenly, most of human activities were suspended all over the world. Commerce, industry and production, education, aviation, sports, tourism and entertainments and other activities stopped. Year 2020 will be a turning point. Future Image blurred. Nothing will go as it is. A big change will occur. Education, especially in higher institutions tried to find substitutes to overcome suspension due to COVID 19 pandemic problem. Although some of them success to use e learning and complete academic year, but unfortunately the majority failed. This is so, because they were not ready for such situation. The objective of this work is to discuss e learning as an effective supportive university learning tool and that it can be successfully used to continue learning during any un expected reasons that hampers educational process. Pave a road for smooth turning to e learning process in university institutes. The work concluded with that e learning provides a powerful mean that it can be applied gradually to university education to face challenges now facing universities. Instructors and learners are ready to deal and cope with e learning. Multiplicity of e learning characteristics make it more convenient, flexible and satisfies all stake holders. E learning proved effectiveness in different fields and successfully supporting student and it had a positive impact. Prepared for the Deakin STEM Education Conference 2021. This paper will be co-authored by a team of participating Year 10 students who are working on a challenge-based learning project in their TIDES (Technology Innovation Design Enterprise Sustainability) class at Peter Carnley Anglican Community School. They are considering a problem derived from the theme of National Science Week 2021 (Food: Different by Design). The focus on issues relating to Food Security has enabled them to create a body of work that supports deep engagement and a scope of learning that exceeds most traditional content-delivery models. They have been able to generate work that can be submitted across a variety of contexts and to enable entry to several external programs for recognition. With their teacher, the students will describe and evaluate the processes and ways of working they have adopted, as well as highlighting how their work has produced interdisciplinary artifacts that can be used to guide and assess learning across a range of subject areas within their regular school timetable. They will also consider the benefits of student agency and external audiences in building engagement and focus in their learning. The students will discuss how programs such as Game Changer Awards, ANSTO National Science Week Hackathon, STEM4Innovation and think tank events provide platforms for the practice and application of their collaborative human-centered design-thinking process to enhance their learning in STEM and other areas across the curriculum. Too often student experience of learning is not reflected in education conferences. As one of the most important voices in the whole system, they often struggle to be heard. This paper will provide insights into student perceptions of integrated STEM as an approach to meaningful learning that provides scope and depth of learning across many parts of the broader K-100 curriculum. Content and capabilities will be considered and the students along with their teacher will endeavour to unpack the benefits and challenges they encounter.

The Horizon Report K-12 was published for the last time as the New Media Consortium was wound up operations. During 2018 several new projects emerged around the globe including the CoSN Driving K-12 Innovation project, Australian Educational Technology Trends, and others. Each seeking to bridge the knowledge gap between where education is heading and what will be happening in terms of technology use. This session will consider some of the emerging trends, and discuss some of the expectations over the next 2-5 years as they are likely to be experienced by schools, teachers, administrators and technology leaders. Extended reality, drones, eSports, data and analytics, visualisation technologies, space science and astronomy, new strategies for assessment, and other imminent engagements will be discussed. The afternoon really concreted that vision we had in launching the Learning Futures Network that by drawing together schools and non-schools we can start to shape a new model of relationships that keeps us involved at all stages but removes most of the administrative and resourcing overheads. We saw 3 of our ISC members step up as project leaders willing to share their work to date and to assist with guiding these new projects so each school involved cam address local priorities within a consortia-based umbrella.

ABSTRACT As all levels and sectors of education contemplate ongoing developments in digital technology, distributed and fragmented models of learning, stackable credentials, and educational unbundling the potential for a system like blockchain to bring security to a diverse landscape of evidence of learning, recognition of learning and acknowledgement of learning becomes more relevant. As MOOCs, SPOCs, online courses, RPL and alternative credentialling become more ubiquitous the main stakeholders in education, industry and government are realising the need for systems that enable higher levels of trust when certificates, awards and prior learning recognition are at stake. This session will discuss some of the needs and some of the attempts already in place globally.

Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg, The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation. This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability. Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots. The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee. • The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act. • The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X. • The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
