Noki The Nokia 9000 Communicator
Introduction
In recent years, more and more smartphone developers arise and variety of products are launched in
the market. The emergence of smartphone and the competition among smartphone platforms are
becoming more important and urgent although there aren t many information about it. Hence in this
essay, I am going to contribute my analysis and findings to this topic.
To chase back to 1996, the first smartphone was released by Nokia the Nokia 9000 Communicator. At
that time, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Windows Mobile were some of the few competitors competing
on their operating system in the market. (Pocketnow, 2014) However back to present, Apple,
Samsung, Sony, HTC, Blackberry, etc are currently the most common brands. While Samsung and
Apple are the leading brands in the market, according to a statistic by Canaccord Genuity (2015),
Apple claims 92% of the global smartphone profits, following by Samsung of 14% (Wall Street
Journal, 2015). And Android is having 81.5%, IOS 14.8% of the 2014 market share according to IDC.
(IDC, 2015)
In the following, I will analyze on the competition in Smartphone markets by exploring: the model/
theory of monopolistic competition, the emergence of ecosystem in smartphone market, the business
strategies used by manufacturers, and analyze the evolution of the market. Lastly I will talk about the
differences between platform competition and competition among Smartphone producers, and whether
and why eventually a few firms will dominate the

Summary Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
Stevie Wonder, whom was an American musician, once said, Mama was a great teacher, a teacher of
compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of
love. This quote by Stevie Wonder helps us understand the fact that mothers try, in the best ways, to
see you succeed by teaching from the mother s perspective and the experiences she has been through
to get you to see the world in a different way. Just like the quote, in Mother to Son we also see the
emphasis on the teachings or life lessons of a mother and how the mother tries to make the son
understand by teaching him that success is something you have to work for, just like the mother had to
and still has to do in her life. In Langston Hughes Mother to Son the poem portrays a mother who
informs her son about the life she has lived along with the difficulties that she encountered and has
overcame, hence the fact that she is telling her son. The mother explains to her son that despite the
difficulties and challenges that come to you and are ahead of you in life, you must not give up because
motivation and determination will push you through life, which is what becomes the overall theme of
this poem. Langston Hughes first method to clearly display the theme of perseverance is through the
use of an extended metaphor within the whole poem. The constantly acknowledged metaphor
throughout this poem is the comparison of the mother s life to a set of crystal stairs. In the poem the
mother says Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, this metaphor is to portray that the mother s life
hasn t been easy going and beautiful like a set of crystal stairs would be. Furthermore, it helps us get a
clear image that the mother s life has been filled with ups and downs. The mother is portrayed to have
had a rough life, but as the reader continues to read the poem we see that she pushes through these
hard times and does not give up to prove that determination will get you far; which we see when she
says For I se still goin , honey, I se still climbin which is the continuation of her prospering.
Furthermore, Langston Hughes incorporated imagery and diction into this poem to get his audience to
visualize the

Rhetorical Devices
Women s rights is an issue that needed to be rectified. Malala Yousafzai and Hillary Clinton use
rhetorical devices such as logos, allusion, and repetition in their speeches. Address to the United
Nations, July 2013 and Excerpts from speech given for the United Nations Fourth World Conference
on Women, 1995 are the speeches used to stress the importance of women and their rights.
Primarily, Hillary uses the rhetorical device logos to persuade the audience of why women s rights are
important. According to paragraph 5 in her speech, she states, Women comprise more than half the
world s population, 70% of the world s poor, and two thirds of those who are not taught to read and
write. We are the primary caretakers for most of the world s children and elderly. Yet much of the
work we do is not valued not by economists, not by historians, not by popular culture, not by
government leaders. She uses statistics to show that although women do a great amount for this world,
their work isn t valued making them seem less important than their male counterparts.
Continually, the second rhetorical device used to emphasize the importance of women s rights is
allusion. Address to the United Nations, July 2013 states, This is the compassion that I have learnt
from Muhammad the prophet of mercy, Jesus Christ and Lord Buddha. This is the legacy of change
that I have inherited from Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is

Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody...
Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody Loves Raymond Learning to communicate
efficiently and manage conflict successfully is challenging. Gaining cooperation between people is
complex and mentally demanding. Communication ways and conflict styles are deeply woven into our
personalities. Conflict is the expressed struggle of interdependent parties who perceive incompatible
goals, interference from the other party in achieving those goals, and the perception of scarce
resources. Perceptions are just as important as reality in regards to conflict. As stated in the text, we
encounter conflict as we compete for acceptance, love, recognition, position, power, success, and
many other goals. Judgments of the quality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conflict here is that Robert s goals were to experience the freedom from his parents and not Amy.
If either had used perception checking, it is possible that their conflict would have ended. The
Attribution Theory is based upon assigning meanings for another s behavior. What we think to be true
is not always accurate. It is necessary to implement proactive strategies such as perception checking.
Perception checking involves three components. They are as stated: 1. A complete description of
behavior observed 2. Provide two possible interpretations of the observed behavior 3. Request for
clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered the termination stage together. As stated earlier
and expressed here, conflict usually occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are
often perceived in dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the Relationship
Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in relationships. The
number one cause for break ups is the relational dialectic, integration/separation. The two opposing
forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy) and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr. McKinney
illustrates these tensions as a contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship.
Mediation is a wonderful process in negotiating a solution between two parties thwarted by

Research Paper On Cannibalism
Cannibalism is the practice of eating the flesh of one s own species. It can also mean the usually
ritualistic eating f human flesh. It is often seen as an uncivilised act and is in most instances, attributed
to the primitive societies. But, there are cases where it has been seen that members of the modern,
civilised society have practised cannibalism. For many, it is an act that cannot be defended or justified
in any way. Some societies believe that cannibalism is a coping mechanism. It is believed to be a way
of guiding the soul of the deceased. Many scholars have also defended cannibalism. There might be
different ways of either defending or going against the practice of cannibalism.

Consumption of human flesh would cause undue distress to the family of cannibalized. This would be
considered wrong. But based on this argument it would be morally wrong to eat a corpse if there were
no living persons who had an interest in the preservation of that corpse. Here, the cannibalistic act of
Aghori Sadhus found in India can be justified because they do not kill or murder any person but
meditates and eats dead bodies that are found near the cremation grounds. It is their belief that if they
accept what has been rejected by others, they are on their path of salvation. The third argument is that
even if the corpse doesn t have a family, all human beings should have an interest in the prevention of
cannibalism because many belief that the society that permits the consumption of human flesh
produces more unhappiness and one would not want to live in such a society. But this argument is
countered by some defenders of cannibalism as being based on false empirical

Summary Of Seeing The Unseen Essay
SEEING THE UNSEEN
The project suggests a new typology of the hotel that addresses an alternative for the social situation in
Doha. In general, typical hotels tend to conceal the service programs; the service programs and staffs
are hidden in the basement, being removed out of the public vision and called back of the house, while
the hotels are inclined to expose the rooms by deploying them on the front side of the facade. It is
undeniable fact that the conventional typology has been working well all the while, however Doha has
somewhat atypical context, consequently it calls for an exceptional architectural approach; Doha has
been undergoing rapid growth in the hotel industry where numerous local residents are being engaged
in the industry as hotel staffs. Moreover, Doha has extremely hot and humid weather. Therefore, the
project proposes to reverse the tradition, drawing a question about the essence of the hotel (figure 1).
To be specific, spaces and infrastructure for service are disposed in the perimeter to reveal the
fundamental aspect of the hotel as such the inner organs become skin, conducting the whole
metabolism of the body (figure 2). By doing so, the back stage becomes the main stage that shows the
system of the hotel which is the heart and soul of the hotel. This logic is materialized in three points:
programs, structure and tectonics, and the material properties.
First of all, the organization of service programs is the main apparatus of the system.

Russell On Truth
Bertrand Russell discussed certain problems he found with philosophy. Russell was concerned about
how much did we really know. There is the stuff we know with our mind when we have a particular
idea, and stuff we know through actually experiencing it which would justify it. But how do we know
if it is real, or even there, for that matter? Russell says, For if we cannot be sure of the independent
existence of object, we cannot be sure of the independent existence of other people s bodies, and
therefore still less of other peoples minds, since we have no grounds for believing in their minds
except such as are derived from observing their bodies (Russell, 47). How can Farmer Brown be sure
that the dairyman just didn t have an idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings us to knowledge of things. Russell believed that all of our knowledge, both knowledge of
things and knowledge of truths, rest upon acquaintance as its foundation. It is therefore important to
consider what kinds of things there are which we have acquaintance (Russell, 57). You know stuff
through acquaintance by directly experiencing it and you know stuff through description from hearing
what other have told you from there direct experiences. William James on the other hand would have
had different views than Russell in some aspects. James believed that you needed more than just an
idea to make something true, it needed power. James believes that truth is dynamic rather than static.
James feels truth happens when everything holds together, when what you believe actually fits in with
other things you also believe. While at the same time, James believed something is false when it doesn
t fit in with the systems of your beliefs. James said, The most violent revolutions in an individual s
beliefs leave most of his old order standing. Time and space, cause and effect, nature and history, and
one s biography remain untouched. New truth is always a go between, a smoother over of transitions.
It marries old opinion to new fact so as ever to show a minimum of jolt, a maximum of continuity
(James, 124). Truth is a web where each belief contributes to support our other beliefs. James would

Observation Of Shopper Behavior
Firstly, when observing shopper behaviour, it is critical to understand that customers can not know
they are being observed, therefore it doesn t consciously or unconsciously influence their behaviour.
Because if people know they are being watched, they will become more self awareness, and it may
change their behaviour or what they do as a result (Graves 2010, p.72 74). In order to observe how
much time customers spent in store and how do they move in store, Myer can use a technological way,
such as WiFi. When people going shopping in Myer, they can connect free WiFi in store, and when
they leave the store, the WiFi will automatically disconnect. Therefore, it tells how long customers
spend in store and it can also track the movements of customers in store. For the customer satisfaction,
the manual observation would be better, so that researcher can see objectives body language, and the
words they use, their tone of voice, and their facial expression. These can provide a visual indicator of
how customer feeling during the shopping (Graves 2010, p.85). To repot these behaviours, Myer can
calculate the average time people spent in store, and where is the most visited areas in store. These can
answer the questions of how to layout the store, where to put the products in order to get shoppers
attention. Moreover, through the observation of customers emotion, Myer can understand how to
service customer in a better, and how to make customers satisfied. I companied one of my

Preserving Historic District Conservation Project
A historic district or heritage district is a section of a city which contains older buildings considered
valuable for historical or architectural reasons. This definition first appeared in Athens Charter, 1933.
In China, any region that is classified as a historical district should contain a group of buildings that
have cultural heritage significance with relatively integrated exterior and structures. All of these
historic districts are cultural artifacts, and their stories are entwined with relevant human civilization.
Thus, for cultural heritage conservation, 99 National Historic and Culturally Famous Towns have been
promulgated by Chinese State Council in three groups since 1982. At the same time, different
provinces and autonomous regions have also issued their own list of Historical and Culturally Famous
communities. However, I considered that during the implementation of promoting historic district
conservation project, many people misunderstand the initial purpose and the process of restoration.
Therefore, huge numbers of cultural heritages were transformed to fake antique , and the cultural
heritage value of relevant places has been seriously diminished.
Currently, historic districts are seriously affected by urban modernization and commercialization.
During different parties are willing to take part in relevant conservation project, how to maintain a
balance between development and cultural heritage conservation has become one of most popular

A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway
While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway s world and developed a
better understanding of him with a human experience. This novel provides an inside look on both,
Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature
death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight
into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes
from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments
from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to
learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by
individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed
and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand that
Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of
the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to
Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions
are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person.
Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished,

Australia Suicide Statistics
Australian statistics say that for every suicide completed there are 30 that have attempted. It is good to
know the warning signs of suicide for risk management and suicide prevention. When people have
suicidal thoughts you may hear them saying things like, life isn t worth living , everyone will be better
without me , I cant deal with this anymore , I would be better dead or nobody understands me ; if you
hear people saying a few of the following you should definitely look deeper into it. Suicide is the most
serious symptom of server depression, warning signs of depression/suicide would be sad moods,
change in persons weight or appetite, loss of interest the feeling of worthlessness, thoughts of death
and self destructive behavior e.g. self medicating. When coming across these symptoms it is best to
ask clear and direct questions, it may seem hard to bring the topic up; but it is best for the client to
know that someone does care and is noticing. Some conversation starters you can use are I have been
feeling concerned about you lately , I just wanted to see if everything is okay, you haven t been
yourself lately when client tells you how they feel you should go deeper by asking when they started
feeling the way they do, how can I support you. You must be supportive and let them know that they
are not alone that we are here and that they wont feel like that forever.

The Role of Media in the Society Essay
The Role of Media in the Society
Media has always played a huge role in our society. For a long time media was one of the methods of
controlling people and leisure. In ancient times when there was no newspapers and television, people
used literature as source of information, some books like the Iliad , and different stories about great
kings, shows those people the information about them. Nowadays media is one of the main part of our
lives and our society, because we use word media, to combine all sources of information. Average man

There are two types of newspapers Broadsheets and Tabloids. Broadsheet newspapers are targeted at
those who like more realistic approaches to news. Their articles focus more on including political and
foreign items. However their publication is less popular than the tabloids. Tabloid newspapers are
aimed at people who are just expecting amusement from newspaper. Although they do cover some
news, they tend to contain more gossip, personality issues, shorter articles and more pictures than text.
Moreover they often refuse and neglect the idea of publishing political and foreign news. Also the
newspapers are mostly bias in their view on what happened. For example in our country 90 percent of
newspapers are belong to government or to some rich people who still depends on government, so
most of them are writing those things that are good for government. As for me I like broadsheets more
because there are only useful facts and no silly stories and pictures. In such country like Kazakhstan
where, like I said before most of the media are controlling by the government, we need to spend our
time and to read a lot of different newspapers so we can get full information from different points of
view, I like newspapers which are belong to opposition parties.

Essay On 1970s Music
1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something

Analysis Of Paris Is Burning
COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE
Ava Morrow
History 3220
The United States in the 20th Century
November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring
awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these
awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both
films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT
people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries
demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at
least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles.
The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the
African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the
mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of LGBT people
who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the ostentatiously
arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being
judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much
of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this
drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of
expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and
homophobia.
How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS epidemic
and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an advocacy group
which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims. The film used
archived footage of news coverage, interviews, protests, meetings, and conferences to chronicle the
struggles of AIDS activists from the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York City. It focused on
the efforts of these activists to obtain meaningful responses from medical

Another potential big barrier for the economy is the moving in of large foreign companies such as the
clothing retailer H M, and the warehouse style membership based Costco. As Iceland deals with new
competition and a recovering economy, the labor force has gone through some big changes. The labor
force has risen to a high of 196,500 people in 2016 and participation in the job market has risen to
83%, both of which could be attributed to the recently booming tourism industry (Iceland Chamber of
Commerce, 2017). A large portion of Iceland s domestic economy comes from things like tourism, IT
and communication, and other things that do not really require packaging and handling, however, the
fishing sector is very dependent on effective packaging and handling. Valka is a company in Iceland
that develops and provides technology and equipment for the fishing industry. Their equipment can
cover the whole process of grading and batching, trimming, cutting and portioning, and packaging the
fish as well as use software to manage the entire order and production process (Valka, 2017). Most of
the country and its population is near water, so sophisticated trucks and other transportation modes
aren t really as important for the domestic side of packaging and handling, but the farther away the

The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats
William Butler Yeats is considered to be one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. As stated in
an online source, he belonged to the protestant, Anglo Irish minority. Yeats was not a set person, in his
earlier life he lived in London. Also, Yeats had a very interesting love life as a poet. It is very clear that
he was an explanatory poet. Ones objective of this paper is to identify and discuss the significance of
William Butler Yeats. However, the minority Yeats belonged to belonged to the Protestant, Anglo Irish
minority that had controlled the economic, political, social, and cultural life of Ireland since at least
the end of the seventeenth century. Most members of this minority considered themselves English
people who merely happened to have been born in Ireland (The World Book Encyclopedia World
Book, Inc.) Although he lived in London for fourteen years of his childhood, Yeats maintained his
cultural roots. He was very confidential with himself as an artist. This conviction led many to accuse
him of elitism, but it also help contributed to his greatness.
Eighteen eighty five was an important year in Yeats early adult life, marking the first publication, in
the Dublin University Review. It was also the year that he met John O Leary, a famous patriot who
had returned to Ireland after totaling twenty years of imprisonment and exile for revolutionary
nationalistic activities. Yeats, who had preferred more romantic settings and themes, soon took O

Growth of the Rastafarian Movement Essay
Since its founding in the 1930s, the Rastafarian movement has grown to the point where it has become
a major cultural and political force in Jamaica. During its existence, the movement has challenged
Jamaica s neo colonialist society s attempts to keep whites at the top and blacks at the bottom of the
socio economic structure.
Because of its controversial actions, the movement has evoked responses from observers that range
from hostility to curiosity (Forsythe 63). On one hand, Rastafarians have been criticized because of
their belief that Haile Selassie, the former emperor of Ethiopia, is God and that marijuana (ganja)
should be used as a religious sacrament. On the other hand, the Rastafari have been praised for their

There are several possible explanations for the rapid growth of Rastafari. One major factor in its
expansion was the emergence in the late 1960s of reggae music, a derivative of American rhythm and
blues and Jamaican ska. Reggae helped spread the philosophy of Rastafari to the wider Jamaican
audience and the world. During that period of time, Bob Marley and the Wailers were the principal
popularizers of reggae. Before Marley s death in 1981, the Wailers, with albums like Burnin (1973)
and Survival (1979), articulated a message of liberation and redemption which had the power to
transform a world of injustice and war into one of peace and love (Reid 172). By 1986, the Wailers ten
albums had sold more than 20 million copies (Jennings 69).
Marley and his music were significant forces in the increased popularity of the movement. Barrett felt
that the growth of the movement was largely due to the charismatic personality of Robert Nesta
Marley (213). Davis and Simon proposed that the Wailers music had thrust the Rasta cosmology into
the middle of the planet s cultural arenas, and suddenly people [wanted] to know what all the chanting
and praying and obsessive smoking of herb [were] all about (Reggae Bloodlines 63).
Because Marley s music was such a powerful force in the rise of the Rastafarian movement, there are
many popular and scholarly writings which focus on Marley and his music. An

Predicting Preferences
Predicting Preferences
Prediction involves making a statement concerning the likely value of an event or action uncertain or
unknown at the time of the statement. Since the theory of probability, (inaugurated by the French
mathematicians Blaise Pascal and Pierre Fermat in 1654), was developed to quantify uncertain events
in terms of their likelihood of occurrence, formal prediction is now viewed as a mathematical topic
involving probabilistic modeling. Indeed, the mathematician Karl Pearson said in 1907 that the
fundamental problem in statistics is prediction. Prediction, however, is usually not an end goal itself,
but rather means to put probabilistic bounds on the relative frequency or likelihood of occurrence of

Bernoulli resolved the paradox by postulating that people do not make choices based on the expected
rewards alone, but rather based on the value or pleasure that each individual pay off is likely to yield
to them. He said The determination of the value of an item must not be based on the price, but rather
on the utility it yields.... There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the
pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there was a function U(w)
(called a utility function) which describes the amount of value or utility that the individual gains by
having an amount of wealth w. Rational individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is
increasing, but the incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing
marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that people determined how
much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the gamble s expected value but rather it s expected
utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble,
and their probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial wealth of
W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 +
U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn. Using this approach, one can predict preferences between two

Charge-To-Mass Ratio Of Electrons Lab Report
Introduction
In 1897, J.J. Thomson performed the Nobel prize winning experiment to calculate the charge to mass
ratio of an electron (e/m). The purpose of this experiment is to recreate and confirm his findings (the
accepted value for the ratio is 1.758820024(11)× 〖10〗^11 C/kg). To recreate the experiment, we
will use the electron gun to generate an electron beam and induce a magnetic force, equivalent to the
magnetic part of the Lorentz Force 〖( F〗_(e,mag)= e ( v × B ) ), that will curve the beam
counterclockwise into a circle (set up shown in Experimental Description and Results). We can equate
the magnetic force to the centripetal force required for uniform circular motion (Equation 2) and use
the law of conservation of energy to relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, the charge to mass ratio of electrons (e/m) was calculated using those quantities and the
magnetic field produced by the Hemholtz coils, which was calculated by equation 10. The
uncertainties for the accelerating voltage and the magnetizing current were given by the multimeter.
However, we need to calculate the uncertainties of the radii of the electron beam, the magnetic field
produced by the Hemholtz coils, and the charge to mass ratio of electrons (e/m). In order to do so, we
used formulas of error propagation. For the error propagation of the radius, we used: δr=
√(((δr_1)/2)^2+((δr_2)/2)^2 ) where r_1 is the radius from left side of the beam and r_2 is the radius
from the right side. For the error propagation of the magnetic field produced by the Hemholtz coils,
we used Equation 12.
δB= √(((8_0 NδI)/(5√5 R_c ))^2+((8_0 IδN)/(5√5 R_c ))^2+(( 8_0 INδR_c)/(5√5 〖R_c〗^2

proof of concept papers have been published to support VTOL UAS operation in both military and
civilian applications. Manufactures are starting to take notice of this research and are beginning to
design, engineer, and build traditional and similar hybrid configurations; however, quadcopter and

The Erie Canal Linked Transportation and Trade in the...
The Erie canal was very important to the United States. It was designed to link our nation through
transportation and trade and was the fastest way to transport goods. It also linked many parts of the
country. The Erie Canal was a vital part of Henry Clay s plan known as the American System, which
was designed to link our nation through trade and transportation.
The canal that links the waters of Lake Erie to the west of the Hudson River in the east, is the Erie
Canal. The Erie Canal is an example of Henry Clay s vision to harmonize and balance the country s
agriculture, economy and industries. The building of this canal was first proposed in 1808 and was
eventually completed in 1824. At the time, New York State Governor De Witt Clinton envisioned a
canal that would link Albany to Buffalo. The idea was criticized by some and given the name Clinton
s ditch . The idea turned out to be a critical turning point for the country since it opened up many new
possibilities. In the early 19th century the transportation of goods between the east and west was
expensive and time consuming. The normal way of transportation before the canal, was by horse
drawn carriages. Then the bold idea of the Erie Canal was proposed to ease the tiring commute. The
Erie canal was intentionally built to open the country west of the Appalachian Mountains to settlers.
The canal would also provide a safe, cheaper way for produce to be carried to various markets. The
canal then became the fastest way

Whilst conformity can be perceived as order and fitting in, it also has plentiful consequences of
control and coercion which inhibits free thought and self expression. Ultimately, choosing to challenge
conformity can be a dangerous experience, however there is the possibility of greater freedom to

And Then There Were Three
And Then There Were Three From author to appearance, purpose to publisher, the creation of the
Lyrical Ballads was far from simple. Though the blank verse Tintern Abbey is one of the other poems
hidden in the back of just one edition of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge s ballads,
the pastoral ode best represents the Wordsworthian anxiety that casts a shadow over the entire,
complex publication of the Lyrical Ballads.
Tintern Abbey was not meant to be a part of the Lyrical Ballads, but was added at the last minute,
when the poems were already in the printing press (Moorman). Though hasty and not quite fitting,
Wordsworth s final addition to the first volume of the Lyrical Ballads became its most illustrious ...

Cottle returned to Bristol with The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in hand, as well as an agreed upon
title for the whole collection, the Lyrical Ballads.
After Cottle left, Coleridge wrote him a letter further explaining the mission of the Lyrical Ballads:
We deem that the volumes offered to you are to a certain degree one work, in kind tho not in degree,
as an Ode is one work that our different poems are as stanzas, good relatively rather than absolutely:
Mark you, I say in kind tho not in degree. (cited by Jordan)
The Lyrical Ballads gained a specific and radical purpose that Wordsworth and Coleridge would have
to defend. Thus, Wordsworth began to show deep concern for his hard work and its revolutionary
mission. The primary poet often visited Bristol over the next few months to oversee the production of
the poems (Rannie). As the purpose of the work specified, so did the appearance. Coleridge also
demanded, with Wordsworth s support, that there be 18 lines per page and the lines closely printed
(cited by Jordan). So, Wordsworth made sure that these details, along with the arrangement of the
ballads, were in concert with his and Coleridge s wishes.
Wordsworth made his last visit to Bristol before the poems went to the press on July 2, after packing
up his belongings from Alfoxden and dropping them off with the Coleridges in Nether Stowey. On the
tenth of July, rather than find a place to stay for a few days, William and

Symbolism In The Pale Man
Visually, the Pale Man is horrendous and intimidating, similar to the frog. The setting the pale man
lives in also adds the monstrous characteristics he possesses. The room s ceiling is painted of the
portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in
one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest.
The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit tarts,
and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are placed on
a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial features are
his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten skin. His skin hangs
from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44).
Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the film.
The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the childhood and
innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on individuality in an entire
nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life. The portraits of children and pile
of shoes also give insight on the state of Spain. These images, recall the historical reality of the

Gender and Social Norms in As You Like It
Shakespeare based his comedy As You Like It primarily on three other works. Its plot follows the
basic structure of Rosalynde, published in 1590 by Thomas Lodge. The Tale of Gamelyn, written by
an unknown author in the mid fourteenth century, is a violent Middle English narrative that was found
among Chaucer s papers and provides further details for Shakespeare s work. With the Forest of
Ardenne serving as an escape for our main characters, Shakespeare takes his details from the countless
Robin Hood ballads popular in Medieval England. This paper will examine how Shakespeare s
adaptations and alterations of emphasis and plot from these source works have turned our attention to

In the final paragraph, Lodge reinforces his focus on men:
Here Gentlemen may you see in EUPHUES GOLDEN LEGACIE, that such as neglect their fathers
precepts, incurre much preiudice; that diuision in Nature as it is a blemish in nurture...concorde
sweetest conclusion, and amitie betwixt brothers more forceable than fortune.
This moral, pointed out to us in the last paragraph of Renaissance writing, says nothing about the
matters of interaction between men and women, only the interaction between brothers. The women in
the plot are deemphasized. In As You Like It, Shakespeare breaks all convention and a female
character delivers the epilog and speaks directly to the women calling them to action. The playwright
goes so far as to have Rosalind address the women audience members first. Shakespeare clearly alters
his plot to place primary emphasis on the women s roles in his play, how they effect change and how
they move and affect a world dominated by men.
Lodge s Rosalynde lives in a world where human behavior is repeatedly explained by reference to
long lists of infallible precepts that are said to determine our reactions, not as a reaction to what other
people have done or how they feel about each other (Stout 279). Shakespeare views love as grounded
in mutual behavior, and the interaction between people helps make possible what will happen in the
future. In Lodge, a common explanation for a character s actions is some sort

Pol Pot
Biography
Saloth Sar aka Pol Pot (19th May, 1925 15th April, 1998) was a Cambodian revolutionary who led the
Khmer Rouge. He was the 8th of 9 children born into a moderately wealthy rice farming family. He
grew up in Prek Sbauv, a small fishing village, where his family owned 50 acres of land or roughly 10
times the national average as well as several buffalos. Pol Pot was educated at several different
schools in both Cambodia and France. In Cambodia, he attended a Buddhist monastery, Cloe Miche, a
catholic school in Phnom Penh and briefly Lycée Sisowath, an exclusive school for academics. He
then moved to Paris after gaining a scholarship and he studied radio technology. Upon Pol Pot s return
to Cambodia, the region was rebelling against the French colonial rule in order to gain independence,
which they achieved a year later. Meanwhile, Pol Pot joined the Khmer People s Revolutionary Party

The Concept Of American Democracy
Democracy is perhaps the most elusive concept of all times. But if there has to be something more
elusive, it will surely be the concept of American democracy. In 1858, Abraham Lincoln is known to
have written:
¨As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master ... This expresses my idea of democracy.
Whoever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy.¨
The initial understanding of American democracy takes the form of an antithesis of English
colonialism and slavery. Based on this understanding, there is little doubt that the foundations of the
´greatest democracy on earth´ are to be found in the darkest, the most blatantly majoritarian and
atrocious times. There is little disagreement among constitutional ... Show more content on

How does the American concept of democracy reconcile with the ¨rule by the people, of the people
and for the people¨ conception of democracy today?
While America truly is exceptional in its dynamism, it is also shockingly imperfect in ways that most
true patriots refuse to accept. Itś greatness and freeness is by no means premised on empirical facts. If
anything, the situation is otherwise. Freedom House, is an independent watchdog that rates countries
based on their civil and political rights accessibility to the citizens. According to their 2017 report,
America scored the highest mark on each front, just like many other European countries, but it ranks
much lower according to the aggregate score, which takes into account factors like electoral process,
political pluralism and participation, and functioning of government, freedom of expression and belief
etc.
For me, as a foreigner, the idea of American democracy can be better understood as a culture, rather
than a system of government. As someone not fully versed with the specifics of the political history
and the intricacies of the electoral system, I view American democracy as a set up characterized by
three things:
An unprecedented level of individual autonomy
A deep distrust for the government
The concept of limited government (which has increasingly become a contentious feature of American
governance)
Based on these

more likely that historians tend to hold biased view that may affect their tone in neutrality. However,
to what extent can historians, or more generally the people, learn the history from an unbiased and

If this event was described by an unbiased outsider, then it is more likely to be: The Koreans started a

assisting the North as revolting Americans, supporting North Koreans, protecting North Korea from
the invasion of United States. While they might have their own perspectives but it is obvious that the

The emergence of smartphone and the competition among smartphone platforms are becoming more important and urgent although there aren t many information about it. Hence in this essay, I am going to contribute my analysis and findings to this topic. To chase back to 1996, the first smartphone was released by Nokia the Nokia 9000 Communicator. • 3. Summary Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Stevie Wonder, whom was an American musician, once said, Mama was a great teacher, a teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love. This quote by Stevie Wonder helps us understand the fact that mothers try, in the best ways, to see you succeed by teaching from the mother s perspective and the experiences she has been through to get you to see the world in a different way. Just like the quote, in Mother to Son we also see the emphasis on the teachings or life lessons of a mother and how the mother tries to make the son understand by teaching him that success is something you have to work for, just like the mother had to and still has to do in her life. In Langston Hughes Mother to Son the poem portrays a mother who informs her son about the life she has lived along with the difficulties that she encountered and has overcame, hence the fact that she is telling her son. The mother explains to her son that despite the difficulties and challenges that come to you and are ahead of you in life, you must not give up because motivation and determination will push you through life, which is what becomes the overall theme of this poem. Langston Hughes first method to clearly display the theme of perseverance is through the use of an extended metaphor within the whole poem. The constantly acknowledged metaphor throughout this poem is the comparison of the mother s life to a set of crystal stairs. In the poem the mother says Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, this metaphor is to portray that the mother s life hasn t been easy going and beautiful like a set of crystal stairs would be. Furthermore, it helps us get a clear image that the mother s life has been filled with ups and downs. The mother is portrayed to have had a rough life, but as the reader continues to read the poem we see that she pushes through these hard times and does not give up to prove that determination will get you far; which we see when she says For I se still goin , honey, I se still climbin which is the continuation of her prospering. Furthermore, Langston Hughes incorporated imagery and diction into this poem to get his audience to visualize the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Malala Yousafzai and Hillary Clinton use rhetorical devices such as logos, allusion, and repetition in their speeches. Address to the United Nations, July 2013 and Excerpts from speech given for the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, 1995 are the speeches used to stress the importance of women and their rights. Primarily, Hillary uses the rhetorical device logos to persuade the audience of why women s rights are important. According to paragraph 5 in her speech, she states, Women comprise more than half the world s population, 70% of the world s poor, and two thirds of those who are not taught to read and write. We are the primary caretakers for most of the world s children and elderly. Yet much of the work we do is not valued not by economists, not by historians, not by popular culture, not by government leaders. She uses statistics to show that although women do a great amount for this world, their work isn t valued making them seem less important than their male counterparts. Continually, the second rhetorical device used to emphasize the importance of women s rights is allusion. If either had used perception checking, it is possible that their conflict would have ended. The Attribution Theory is based upon assigning meanings for another s behavior. What we think to be true is not always accurate. It is necessary to implement proactive strategies such as perception checking. Perception checking involves three components. They are as stated: 1. A complete description of behavior observed 2. Provide two possible interpretations of the observed behavior 3. Request for clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered the termination stage together. As stated earlier and expressed here, conflict usually occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are often perceived in dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the Relationship Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in relationships. The number one cause for break ups is the relational dialectic, integration/separation. The two opposing forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy) and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr. McKinney illustrates these tensions as a contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship. It is often seen as an uncivilised act and is in most instances, attributed to the primitive societies. But, there are cases where it has been seen that members of the modern, civilised society have practised cannibalism. For many, it is an act that cannot be defended or justified in any way. In general, typical hotels tend to conceal the service programs; the service programs and staffs are hidden in the basement, being removed out of the public vision and called back of the house, while the hotels are inclined to expose the rooms by deploying them on the front side of the facade. It is undeniable fact that the conventional typology has been working well all the while, however Doha has somewhat atypical context, consequently it calls for an exceptional architectural approach; Doha has been undergoing rapid growth in the hotel industry where numerous local residents are being engaged in the industry as hotel staffs. Moreover, Doha has extremely hot and humid weather. Therefore, the project proposes to reverse the tradition, drawing a question about the essence of the hotel (figure 1). To be specific, spaces and infrastructure for service are disposed in the perimeter to reveal the fundamental aspect of the hotel as such the inner organs become skin, conducting the whole metabolism of the body (figure 2). By doing so, the back stage becomes the main stage that shows the system of the hotel which is the heart and soul of the hotel. This logic is materialized in three points: programs, structure and tectonics, and the material properties. First of all, the organization of service programs is the main apparatus of the system. ... There is the stuff we know with our mind when we have a particular idea, and stuff we know through actually experiencing it which would justify it. But how do we know if it is real, or even there, for that matter? Russell says, For if we cannot be sure of the independent existence of object, we cannot be sure of the independent existence of other people s bodies, and therefore still less of other peoples minds, since we have no grounds for believing in their minds except such as are derived from observing their bodies (Russell, 47). William James on the other hand would have had different views than Russell in some aspects. James believed that you needed more than just an idea to make something true, it needed power. James believes that truth is dynamic rather than static. James feels truth happens when everything holds together, when what you believe actually fits in with other things you also believe. While at the same time, James believed something is false when it doesn t fit in with the systems of your beliefs. James said, The most violent revolutions in an individual s beliefs leave most of his old order standing. Time and space, cause and effect, nature and history, and one s biography remain untouched. Preserving Historic District Conservation Project A historic district or heritage district is a section of a city which contains older buildings considered valuable for historical or architectural reasons. This definition first appeared in Athens Charter, 1933. In China, any region that is classified as a historical district should contain a group of buildings that have cultural heritage significance with relatively integrated exterior and structures. All of these historic districts are cultural artifacts, and their stories are entwined with relevant human civilization. Thus, for cultural heritage conservation, 99 National Historic and Culturally Famous Towns have been promulgated by Chinese State Council in three groups since 1982. At the same time, different provinces and autonomous regions have also issued their own list of Historical and Culturally Famous communities. However, I considered that during the implementation of promoting historic district conservation project, many people misunderstand the initial purpose and the process of restoration. Therefore, huge numbers of cultural heritages were transformed to fake antique , and the cultural heritage value of relevant places has been seriously diminished. • 12. A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway s world and developed a better understanding of him with a human experience. This novel provides an inside look on both, Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand that Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person. Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished, ... Two films that evolved out of these awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles. The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the mid to late 1980 s. The film chronicles the ostentatiously arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and homophobia. One major factor in its expansion was the emergence in the late 1960s of reggae music, a derivative of American rhythm and blues and Jamaican ska. Reggae helped spread the philosophy of Rastafari to the wider Jamaican audience and the world. During that period of time, Bob Marley and the Wailers were the principal popularizers of reggae. Before Marley s death in 1981, the Wailers, with albums like Burnin (1973) and Survival (1979), articulated a message of liberation and redemption which had the power to transform a world of injustice and war into one of peace and love (Reid 172). By 1986, the Wailers ten albums had sold more than 20 million copies (Jennings 69). Marley and his music were significant forces in the increased popularity of the movement. Barrett felt that the growth of the movement was largely due to the charismatic personality of Robert Nesta Marley (213). There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there was a function U(w) (called a utility function) which describes the amount of value or utility that the individual gains by having an amount of wealth w. Rational individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is increasing, but the incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that people determined how much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the gamble s expected value but rather it s expected utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble, and their probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial wealth of W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 + U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn. Then, the charge to mass ratio of electrons (e/m) was calculated using those quantities and the magnetic field produced by the Hemholtz coils, which was calculated by equation 10. The uncertainties for the accelerating voltage and the magnetizing current were given by the multimeter. However, we need to calculate the uncertainties of the radii of the electron beam, the magnetic field produced by the Hemholtz coils, and the charge to mass ratio of electrons (e/m). In order to do so, we used formulas of error propagation. For the error propagation of the radius, we used: δr= √(((δr_1)/2)^2+((δr_2)/2)^2 ) where r_1 is the radius from left side of the beam and r_2 is the radius from the right side. For the error propagation of the magnetic field produced by the Hemholtz coils, we used Equation 12. δB= √(((8_0 NδI)/(5√5 R_c ))^2+((8_0 IδN)/(5√5 R_c ))^2+(( 8_0 INδR_c)/(5√5 〖R_c〗^2 ))^2 ... It was designed to link our nation through transportation and trade and was the fastest way to transport goods. It also linked many parts of the country. The Erie Canal was a vital part of Henry Clay s plan known as the American System, which was designed to link our nation through trade and transportation. The canal that links the waters of Lake Erie to the west of the Hudson River in the east, is the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal is an example of Henry Clay s vision to harmonize and balance the country s agriculture, economy and industries. The building of this canal was first proposed in 1808 and was eventually completed in 1824. At the time, New York State Governor De Witt Clinton envisioned a canal that would link Albany to Buffalo. The idea was criticized by some and given the name Clinton s ditch . The idea turned out to be a critical turning point for the country since it opened up many new possibilities. In the early 19th century the transportation of goods between the east and west was expensive and time consuming. The normal way of transportation before the canal, was by horse drawn carriages. Then the bold idea of the Erie Canal was proposed to ease the tiring commute. The Erie canal was intentionally built to open the country west of the Appalachian Mountains to settlers. The canal would also provide a safe, cheaper way for produce to be carried to various markets. The canal then became the fastest way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. And Then There Were Three And Then There Were Three From author to appearance, purpose to publisher, the creation of the Lyrical Ballads was far from simple. Though the blank verse Tintern Abbey is one of the other poems hidden in the back of just one edition of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge s ballads, the pastoral ode best represents the Wordsworthian anxiety that casts a shadow over the entire, complex publication of the Lyrical Ballads. Tintern Abbey was not meant to be a part of the Lyrical Ballads, but was added at the last minute, when the poems were already in the printing press (Moorman). Cottle returned to Bristol with The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in hand, as well as an agreed upon title for the whole collection, the Lyrical Ballads. After Cottle left, Coleridge wrote him a letter further explaining the mission of the Lyrical Ballads: We deem that the volumes offered to you are to a certain degree one work, in kind tho not in degree, as an Ode is one work that our different poems are as stanzas, good relatively rather than absolutely: Mark you, I say in kind tho not in degree. (cited by Jordan) The Lyrical Ballads gained a specific and radical purpose that Wordsworth and Coleridge would have to defend. Thus, Wordsworth began to show deep concern for his hard work and its revolutionary mission. The primary poet often visited Bristol over the next few months to oversee the production of the poems (Rannie). As the purpose of the work specified, so did the appearance. Coleridge also demanded, with Wordsworth s support, that there be 18 lines per page and the lines closely printed (cited by Jordan). So, Wordsworth made sure that these details, along with the arrangement of the ballads, were in concert with his and Coleridge s wishes. Wordsworth made his last visit to Bristol before the poems went to the press on July 2, after packing up his belongings from Alfoxden and dropping them off with the Coleridges in Nether Stowey. The room s ceiling is painted of the portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest. The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit tarts, and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are placed on a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial features are his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten skin. His skin hangs from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44). Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the film. The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the childhood and innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on individuality in an entire nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life. Its plot follows the basic structure of Rosalynde, published in 1590 by Thomas Lodge. The Tale of Gamelyn, written by an unknown author in the mid fourteenth century, is a violent Middle English narrative that was found among Chaucer s papers and provides further details for Shakespeare s work. This moral, pointed out to us in the last paragraph of Renaissance writing, says nothing about the matters of interaction between men and women, only the interaction between brothers. The women in the plot are deemphasized. In As You Like It, Shakespeare breaks all convention and a female character delivers the epilog and speaks directly to the women calling them to action. The playwright goes so far as to have Rosalind address the women audience members first. Shakespeare clearly alters his plot to place primary emphasis on the women s roles in his play, how they effect change and how they move and affect a world dominated by men. Lodge s Rosalynde lives in a world where human behavior is repeatedly explained by reference to long lists of infallible precepts that are said to determine our reactions, not as a reaction to what other people have done or how they feel about each other (Stout 279). Shakespeare views love as grounded in mutual behavior, and the interaction between people helps make possible what will happen in the future.
