Louis Giannetti Neorealism
Neorealism, as the name suggests, is a new realism. Louis Giannetti gives a definition in the book
Understanding Movies that Strongly realistic in its techniques, neorealism emphasized
documentary aspects of film art, stressing loose episodic plots, unextraordinary event and
characters, natural lighting, actual location settings, nonprofessional actors, a preoccupation with
poverty and social problems, and an emphasis on humanistic and democratic ideas. (Giannetti, 2004,
538). Bicycle Thieves and Pather Panchali are two movies that represent this style.
First, Bicycle Thieves is a representative work of Italian neorealism. Italian neorealism actually
rose in frustration. After World War II, all neglected matters in Italy were yet to be dealt with.
Reflected in the area of film production, the war destroyed the film factory and created scarcity of
resources. The film industry was almost breakdown. In such an environment, low budget film
emerged as the time required. In Bicycle Thieves, the main characters, the unemployed worker and
his son, were played by two non professional actors. Their acting is really powerful. The father s
cry at the end of the movie touches the heart. Maybe he had a natural good acting, but I prefer that
the realistic experience brought up such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

directors do not want the best equipment and studio; they even do not need professional post
production; they would not choose a big event, because they believe that small potatoes and little
incidents also can record society. Reflected in the specific works, Bicycle Thieves and Pather
Panchali adopted this attitude. Both of these two movies seems full of non professional. But they
use non professional created miracle. Because of Indian background, Pather Panchali have more

Graffiti Art
If you were to go open a dictionary and look up the definition of art, you would see that it has art
as The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination... ( Art 2017) and Works
produced by human creative skill and imagination. ( Art 2017). From these definitions, graffiti is
art, yet in most cases, it s considered vandalism because it is done without permission of the
property. When graffitiis done in a designated place or with the permission of the property owner,
then it can truly be considered art. But even if these circumstances are not met, if the graffiti goes
beyond a simple tag, it is art.
If you walk through almost any city, the buildings, bridges, and any other available spaces are
seemingly filled with colors, picture, and words that are not part of the original architecture.
This graffiti, which is a mix of tags, stencils, pieces, and freestyle, seems to have almost taken
over cities across the world. Some of this graffiti, such as tags, are eyesores, but some pieces,
such as the High Line Love Is the Answer and Kiss murals in New York City, are sites that have
become iconic pieces of artwork. Unfortunately, pieces like these are also starting to be covered to
a seemingly astronomical rate, which is causing outrage among those who visited to them.
Graffiti is derived from the Greek word graphien which means drawing on a surface such as stone.
It was originally created as a word to describe the illegal drawings that ancient

The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay
Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children,
especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure
of female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to
time and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental
influences capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of
children. Specifically, the connection between motherand daughter body types and eating habits,
examined both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body
dissatisfaction and negative attitudes towards food a trend that... Show more content on

Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control
from their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and
encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a
lack of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the
attitudes around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across
race and culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they
hold about their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight
concern. With the ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every
corner of the globe, the pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with
their bodies does not bode well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not,
mothers inadvertently tell their daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a
source of pleasure to be enjoyed (Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a
part of their traditional role as a mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the
more important thinness becomes for both themselves and their children.
Conversely, there has been research which places the risk of skewed body

The Round House Erdrich
The novel The Round House revolves around the questionable morality of vengeance. Louise
Erdrich, shares the tale of a young boy and his endeavor to gain vengeance for his mother s rape.
Through the eyes of Joe Coutts, a story of crime and justice unfolds. Joe s aggression emerges
after he discovers his mother, Geraldine, is raped. Consequently, Joe attempts to avenge his mother
by locating the perpetrator, Linden Lark, and killing him. Does Joe s quest to find vengeance,
justify his plot for murder? The moral conflict between justice and vengeance interferes with Joe
s plan. Erdrich voices, I don t remember that they even looked at me or I at them after the shock
of that first moment when we all realized we were old (317). Joe finds out the judge is uncertain
whether Lark can be accused at all, this sparks Joe to carry on his own personal quest for
retribution. Erdrich uses Joe s vigilante perspective to question the morality of vengeance; it acts as
a call to action when dealing with family affairs. Erdrich s appeals to Joe s action by questioning its
morality with the justification of the law; arguing the extent... Show more content on

With the lack of jurisdiction enforcement and Basil s pitiful attempt on finding justice, Joe is
forced to find vengeance himself. Furthermore, Joe is appalled that little action has taken place.
Erdrich says, I ve had enough fear for my whole life. You will not add to my fear. You will not
add to my sorrows. You will not be a part of this (89). This exemplifies the loneliness and fear that
Geraldine has after the rape. Although, Geraldine is telling joe not to pursue Lark, this only fuels
his emotion to seek vengeance. I ll do it. There is nothing to stop me. I know who he is and i m
going after him (89). Joe s passion is immense. Although Joe does not know the true identity of the
rapist, he still is determined to avenge his

Tobacco Advertising
Tobacco is one of the most popular products in today s market, but in order to be universally
known, it needs to be advertised either by magazines and newspapers or by posters but not by
television as due to mounting clue of health dangers television commercials for smoking were
banned beginning in 1971 (The Columbia Encyclopedia, 2). Tobaccoadvertising is much popular
these days and we can support that it is the ВЁ food ВЁ of tobacco industries in order to keep them

But although conflict as to the effects of smoking and bans on smoking by certain religious
groups, the use of tobacco continued to develop (The Columbia Encyclopedia, 1). The roots of
advertising exist thousands of years in the past. One of the first known ways of advertising was
the outdoor display, usually an eye catching sign painted on the wall of a building. In medieval
times word of mouth praise of products gave rise to a simple but effective form of advertising,
the use of so called town criers. The criers were citizens who read public notices aloud and were
also employed by merchants to shout the praiser of their waves. Although graphic forms of
advertising appeared early in history, printed advertising made little headway until the invention of
the printing press. In the end of 19th century many companies began to produce packaged
products under brand names. This increase was used in a new period in the history of advertising.
Previously, such everyday household goods as sugar, soap, rice, molasses, butter, milk, lard, beans,
confectionery, candles, and pickles had been sold in nearby shops from bulk packages. As a
conclusion, consumers had seldom been
aware of, or inspired by, brand names. Public relations specialists have advertising as a way of
communication, that is why outdoor posters,

The Role Of Clothes In The Victorian Era
Victorian Dress Alexander Mcqueen once said, It s an era in fashion There are no rules. It s all
about the individual and personal style, wearing high end, low end, classic labels, and up
designers together. In the Victorian Era there was a lot going on especially for the rich. If you
were rich you had glamorous tea parties and nice clothes, shoes, hair, makeup and everything else
that rian had to do with your body. If you were poor you did not have the glamorous lifestyle or
clothes.
Women in the Victorian Erawomen dressed very extravagant. There were all kinds of different
clothes and things that mattered because of your wealth. The rich woman would wear huge
dresses. They sometimes would wear a wooden skirt under there dress to make the round shape.
They would also wear corsets that they would tie super tight. These corsets would make their
waist very small; because men liked the skinny waist in a woman. Over the corsets and hooped
skirts they would pull over a dress. Some dresses may of been made out of lace, silk,or ruffles.
Women would wear very humble clothing. All the dresses were very out there they had very
well stitching and hard work paid into it. This was more for the rich or wealthy people someone

The Cask Of Amontillado, And The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allen Poe, a master of suspense, wrote stories over a hundred and fifty years ago that
remain popular today. One of Poe s suspense techniques in these short stories are unreliable
characters. An unreliable character is a character, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose
credibility has been seriously compromised. The unreliable narrator forces the reader to ask
questions like, Is this true? rather than Who did it? or What happened? Poe uses unreliable
characters in many of his stories very effectively to keep the reader guessing what is ultimately
true. Three of his most famous stories, The Tell Tale Heart , The Black Cat, The Cask of
Amontilladoand The Masque of the Red Death . He illustrated how effective such narration is....

If the main character was not mad, it would still be a good story. However, Poe made this
narrator unreliable by making him mad. The narrator says, I heard all things in heaven and in the
earth. I heard many things in hell. How then am I mad? This shows that he is unreliable, he asks
himself how he is mad but, right before he said he heard things in heaven and hell. That is
unreliable. Poe also doesn t name the unreliable narrators in these stories which makes them
unreliable. He does name other characters that are more reliable including, the old man and Pluto
in The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat. Additionally, Poe uses violence and death to show that
the characters were unreliable. In The Black Cat the main character cut his cats eye out and then,
hangs his cat. In The Tell Tale Heart the main character chokes the old man to death. This is
unreliable

Any Farming is Good Farming Essay
Any Farming is Good Farming
In the future you will go to the grocery store and pay $15 a pound for Pork, and $20 a pound for
Beef. World hunger outside the United States will be running rampant because of an inadequate
food supply. Houses will start to pop up on all of the United States prime farmland. If we continue to
bash corporate farming, this is the world we would be looking at. Family farms would thrive
because there is little competition. The world as a whole would suffer because the small farms in
the United States could no longer supply the world, let alone its own citizens, with food.

The leader of the National Family Farm Coalition, Bill Cristison states, There needs to be a far
greater understanding in this country about the important role of family farmers in providing for our
nations food supply and food security (Christison). The truth is family farms do not produce
enough goods to support the demand in the United States. People can t see that we need
corporate farming and it is a good thing for the national government to support any type of
farming. In my mind, Cristison must not want to support farming at all because he rejects the
2002 Farm Bill. Cristison states, Representative Larry Combest, the House Agriculture
Committee chairman, has said publicly that the winners of this Farm Bill are American farmers.
I strongly disagree. The winners of this farm bill are corporate agribusiness (Christison). This
bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This would make up for losses
that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for farming? Family
farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm you will
receive more money. That is how it should work, much like taxes in a sense that you pay based on
the size of your income. This bill was the only logical agreement reached by the national
government on how to help its farmers.
I know exactly what people in this country want to see when they think of agriculture. They want to
see their next door neighbor out on

Technology In The Book Anthem
We were born with a curse (18). At the beginning of the book Anthem, this quote explains how
Equality 2721 feels about himself. He is describing how he thinks and wishes about things that
are forbidden. In the book Anthem, one topic of discussion is technology and science.
Technology and science is presumed to be feared in the book and is primitive. The government
and most of the city s citizens are programmed to be fearful of new inventions and discoveries. In
the book, Equality 7 2521 has discovered that he is different from all of the others. He is more
attentive and more intelligent. The Teachers in the Home of the Students disapprove of his
ability to be superior to others. He was sentenced to be a Street Sweeper, to try to prevent his
creativity. Later on in the book, Equality has been experimenting with electricity and finally
discovers the light bulb. He presents this to the World Council and they say he is a disgrace, for a
Street Sweeper to try to become superior to others. This shows that they are fearful of technology
and science.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Model And The Medical Model
In today s society two models dominate, the social model and the medical model. Both are used to
label those who have impairments. The social model focuses on fixing the society to fit in with
impairments which was introduced alongside the disability movement. The 18th century otherwise
knowns as the age of enlightenment saw the introduction of some although very primitive ideas of
human science and what may cause impairments with this came the ideals that today may be
argued to be held with credibility even after advances in medical care. These same doctors with
the new found confidence of medical science set out to cure impairments. The medical model is
most prominent in mainstream television is one show ran by fox focuses on the medical diagnoses
of patients but also of the main character of Dr Gregory House who has a physical impairment
many episodes focuses on this and even in a hospital environment is unable to access some areas
and with medical intervention he would be cured, although even with medication, operations and
therapies to normalise him nothing could fix his disability. The short time that Dr House was
considered to be normal highlighted how he changed as a doctor and person.
The Medical model otherwise known as the Psycho Medical can be defined as a framework which
focuses on gathering medical facts to establish the cause of the impairment and best course of
action to cure and how to best normalised the individual to fit in with today s society. The

Essay On The Bobo Doll Experiment
The Bobo Doll Experiment Alexis T. Smith University of Alabama at Birmingham April 2016
The Bobo Doll Experiment was a study on aggression conducted by Albert Bandura at Stanford
University in 1961 because there was a lot of debate about whether a child s social development
was due to genetics, environment factors, or social learning from others around them. The
purpose of the study was to give credit to Bandura s claim that children behavior can be acquired
by observation and imitation of a trusted adult role model. The experiment was performed by a
team of researchers who physically and verbally mistreated a 3 and 5 foot painted cartoon clown
doll, that is designed to sit back upright when knocked down, in front of preschool age children,
which led the children to later copy the behavior of the adults by attacking the doll in the same
fashion. The experiment is an example of a matched pairs design, which is used when an
experiment has two treatment conditions and the subjects are paired based on a blocking variable,
and within each pair the subjects are assigned to a different treatment randomly. There were a total

African, Medieval Kingdom Of Mali, Questions And Answers
1. Were you surprised by anything you read in the sources on the African, medieval kingdom of
Mali? I was surprised by how big the Mali Empire was, and how many people lived in the land
(roughly size of western Europe, 50 million people). I was also surprised by how rich Mansa Musa
was so rich that 500 slaves could go before him caring golden staffs that were four pounds!
2. As the people of medical West Africadid not generally record information through their own
written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information
known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities
in the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and
Gao, architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records.
Simerly, Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would
have come to the Mali Empire to study. During their stay, the students would also have written
about the empire. Finally, traders would have also have helped historians learn about the Mali
Empire. By recording what items were traded, and how much of each item was traded, historians
would know about the wealth of Mali. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and fortifies it. With the security the region has, the people start to flourish, and arts, learning and

I. Introduction a. Statement of the problem One of the most critical and gigantic problem which
most of the developing countries have been facing is that of poverty and special backwardness.
These countries tend to be very anxious to overcome these problems. During the last two decades
these developing countries have been initiating a number of development programmes and projects
under their development plans aiming at increasing production, adopting technologies for
modernization and social change, optimizing use of scarce resources, and above all raising the
standard of living of the millions of people condemned to poverty, inequality and unemployment.
Thus the public sector growth is one of the natural consequences of planned economy. It is the
public enterprises which constitute the most important Institutional framework for achieving these
objectives. The problem of poverty, inequality and stagnation in the developing countries to be as
daunting as ever in spite of massive programme of modernisation and social change were
undertaken by these countries. This has happened due to unsuccessful implementation of

Functionalist View of Religion Essay
The Functionalist View of Religion First Last name
Bluegrass Community Technical College
There are several key elements that are found in every society. These elements are called cultural
universals. One of these cultural universals is religion. From the earliest known societies to our
every day modern lives religion has performed many vital functions. To explore these necessary
duties of religion we must first understand the definition of religion. Many describe religion as a
feeling or presence of a supernatural being. Others say religion is more of a self awareness or inner
peace. Webster s Dictionary defines religion as 1a: The state of the religious b (1): The service or
worship of God or the supernatural (2): ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter what the religion or what criteria necessary for attaining the salvation that religion
teaches, it is clear that the only manifest function of religion points to salvation. There have been
many latent functions of religion in society as well. These are some of the unintended uses of
religion as a whole. One of the major latent functions of religion is the psychological effects it
has in individual lives (Dance, 2010). As Weber said religion helps people deal with the
inevitable problems of existence like sickness, pain, and eventually death. Religion for any time
and any culture has helped to lead people through the difficult stages of life. It gives the support
and tools necessary to cross the difficult thresholds that come our way; from childhood, to
adolescence, to adulthood, to old age, and eventually to the final exit, death. Every religion has
certain rituals and beliefs that accompany these stages of life. Many ancient religions had certain
incantations and spells that were chanted over someone that was sick or diseased. Many modern
religions pray to their respective deity in hopes that the inflicted person would be healed. From the
earliest known religions there has always been some religious significance when someone passes
away. Funeral processions in ancient Egypt would sometimes last several months where every
orchestrated event was to appease their gods and

Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood
The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed.
But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a
cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main
character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a womans power to exercise their control
over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain
code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows
her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence.
In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her
standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box
seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this
represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved
and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her
perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that
Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others
and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute.
Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics.
Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is

The Legal Age Of The Law Of Hollis
Ariana (defendant) is 19 and purchased a sofa and framed print from Apartments r us (plaintiff)
with cash for $1400. She notified the plaintiffs that she wanted to disaffirm the contract which
was voidable at her discretion because she is considered an infant under the law of Hollis. The
legal age to enter into a contract in Hollis is 20 years old and Ariana is 19 years old. There is no
indication that she has been emancipated by marriage, enlistment in any branch of the military, or
by court order as would deem her not an infant under Hollis Revised Statutes 12 H.R.S.
В§(100)(e)(2). None of the items the defendant purchased were necessaries, so the defendant
maintains the right to disaffirm. It is unknown whether the sales contract was written. By the Statue
of Frauds, the contract should be in writing because it was for the sale of goods worth more than
$500. The court will enforce the contract even if it isn t in writing because the buyer has already
accepted the goods and the parties agree that there was a contract at one point. The defendant
communicated clear and unequivocal disaffirmance to the plaintiffs. Ariana is requesting rescission
and restitution of the sales contract. This would nullify the contract and return both parties to status
quo ante. Ariana wants all of her money back and in return she will return as much of the
consideration as she has in her possession. It has been confirmed in past cases in other jurisdictions

The Night Of The Lake
The ride across the lake was everything Rose had imagined and more. She even thought she might
have seen the giant squid poke up out of the water. She tried to point it out to Albus, but it had
disappeared when he looked over.
They finally pulled up to the shore and began following Hagrid up the grounds to the castle. It was
so much bigger than she had imagined.
It s so big, Albus said in awe.
I was just thinking the same thing, Rose replied.
The students sidled up to the entrance. The doors opened and Hagrid shepherded the student into
the Hall.
Professor Longbottom will be with you in a moment to explain what will happen next. If any of
you ever need someone to talk to or a cup o tea, you can always come find me, Hagrid said looking
directly at Rose and Albus.
Just then, Uncle Neville (no wait, Professor Longbottom, Rose had to get used to calling him that)
came down the big flight of stairs.
Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! I am Professor Longbottom, Head of
Gryffindor House! I know some of you and I can t wait to get to know the rest of you in due

You will be placed into one of the four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

Comparing and Contrasting Social Issues and Formalities of Henry James s Daisy Miller and Edith
Wharton s The Other Two
In Henry James s Daisy Miller and Edith Wharton s The Other Two, the narrators each disclose
the complications of their party s social formalities during circumstances within their own society.
In both short stories, Winterbourne and Waythorn try to figure out their adored ones character and
motives but for different reasons. In Daisy Miller, it s noticeable that Mr. Winterbourne ends up
longing for Daisy Miller as he tries to fully categorize the character she s carelessly ruining. While

(Wharton 1036).
In both short stories, it is easy to discover that Winterbourne and Waythorn both are mysterious of
who their adored ones really are besides what is normally perceived of them. Throughout the
story Winterbourne could not figure out Daisy as he tried to analyze all the unusual aspects of her
character. Winterbourne becomes infatuated by Daisy, confused by her mixture of innocence and
crudity, (James 520) and mixture of audacity and puerility. (James 533). On the other hand,
Waythorn becomes a bit curious as to who Alice really is now or was during her past two
husbands who aren t nearly as bad as Alice had informed him. Although Winterbourne is not
married like Waythorn, Winterbourne desires Daisy a great deal but he is humble enough to avoid
being disparate especially when she is accompanied by Mr. Giovanelli. Compared to Winterbourne,
Waythorn could not bear to think that she had, in the background of her life, a phase of existence
so different from anything with which he had connected her. (Wharton 1032). Although The Other
Two ends much better than Daisy Miller, thanks to Mrs. Miller, Winterbourne learned that Daisy
really did care about him. As for the very ending of both stories, The Other Two ends with
Waythron, Alice and her former husbands leaving enough room to bug in each other s lives
comfortably as hoped

Jodi Picoult Controversial Topics
People spin chaotic webs of controversial topics and Jodi Picoult is the one who untangles us all.

feeling attacked or offended or anything of that sort. Fiction also relates to the emotional aspect of
her writing mentioned earlier. Readers of fiction can become attached to the characters in the
book. If something misfortunate happens to a character they like, the reader can become upset.
This works in her favor because people are more willing to listen to what she has to say about any
given topic.
As readers, you can choose to think. Don t do the bare minimum. Everybody can read but only
those who choose to can truly understand. So you don t know where to start? The best thing to
do if you become involved in a controversial topic, whether it s for a debate or you re dealing with
it personally, is research. Educating yourself can help you get through it. Not only that, you can
talk to people who have had the same experience. Jodi Picoult is able to present controversial

The Role Of Abiotic And Biotic Stresses On The Environment
II. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Agriculture is one of the major sector becoming vulnerable to
climate change. Increased incidences of abiotic and biotic stresses are likely to cause serious
negative impact on crop production. Abiotic stress is defined as the negative impact of non
living factors on the living organisms in a specific environment. The non living variable must
influence the environment beyond its normal range of variation to adversely affect the
performance or individual organism in a significant way. This leads to decrease in the
productivity by more than 50% in major crop plants which are growing word wide (Bray et al.,
2000). Increased water stress, reduction in rainfall and increased air temperature are the major
reasons for yield decline in wheat and paddy crops in many parts of South Asia. The average
increase in temperature per decade is measured to be 0.28 ВєC over land and 0.12 ВєC over ocean
and predicted that it is likely to rise further to a maximum of 2.5 ВєC by 2050 and 5.8 ВєC by
2100 (Jones et al., 1999; Grover et al., 2011). The principal abiotic stresses in India are drought
or soil moisture stress, high temperatures, soil salinity/alkalinity, low pH and metal toxicity
stresses that affect nearly two thirds area forming parts of the arid and semi arid eco systems
(Grover et al., 2011). Development of low cost, easily adaptable methods for the abiotic stress
management is a big challenge. Extensive research is being carried out across the globe, to

The Importance Of Freedom Rides
Imagine how it would feel if you were not allowed to go into the same bathroom as everyone
else, if you were told to sit in a cut off section of a restaurant, or if you were made to sit on the
back of a public bus. African Americans had to endure that way of life majority of the 20th
century. They did not get the same equal rights as any other human beings in America(Lifson).
Because of the mistreatment, African Americans began to take a stand and speak out on the
injustices they face everyday just because of the color of their skin, and it began a powerful
movement. They had multiple protest to push for equal rights: sit ins, marches, bus boycotts, etc. In

The Likely Cause Of Earthquakes In The United States
Name: Olawale Oluwakoya
Media report: The likely cause of recent southeast US earthquakes.
The southeastern part of the United States should not encounter too many seismic activities because
it is located in the interior of the North American Plate, a good distance away from plate boundaries
where earthquakes mostly occur. However the southeast have seen some seismic, the latest was the
2011 magnitude 5.8 earthquake at Virginia.
Scientists recently reported in a new study a likely explanation for this unexpected incident, some
tiny pieces of the mantle under the region have been breaking off and moving deep down into the
Earth. Thereby weakening the remaining plates and making it more prone to slipping that causes
earthquakes. Most study authors have concluded that this process is ongoing and very likely ...

Earthquakes does not often occur in the middle of plates, however they do happen when old faults
or rifts far below the surface reactivate. These areas are weak compared to the surrounding plate,
and can slip easily and cause earthquake.
A CAT scan of the Earth
To find out what had been happening below the surface, researchers created 3D images of the
mantle portion of the North American Plate. Seismologists image the internal part of the Earth by
tracing the paths of seismic waves created by earthquakes as they move through the ground. The
waves move faster through colder rocks and less quickly through warmer rocks. Rocks cool and
harden as they become older, so the faster seismic waves, the older the rock.
The researchers used tremors created by earthquakes a little more than 2,000 miles away to create
a 3D map of the mantle. They discovered that plate thickness in the southeast U.S. is uneven, they
saw thick areas of dense, aged rock stretching down and thin areas of less dense, younger

For a linear system, the coherence function is given as

Bp Oil Spill Letter
The purpose for my letter is to express my concerns of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill that
occurred April 20, 2010. The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all
probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just
affect the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and
the costal habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil wellin the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an
explosion. Oil leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months,
causing more than 200 million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In
addition to the oil, almost 2 million gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical
dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of
Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP

that it failed to be properly inspected. A way we can easily avoid a second oil spill is by
continually and constantly inspecting correctly. Schedule regular audits. Technology has
advanced so much that BP can add leak detection devices to the wells. BP should avoid places

Essay on Malcolm X
The 1950 s and 1960 s were a time of racial turmoil throughout most of the United States.
Segregation between blacks and whites was still in full effect, African Americans had to drink from
different water fountains, eat at different restaurants, and even shop at different stores than their
Anglo neighbors . Many people and organizations fought valiantly for equality in the U.S. such as
Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King jr. and the NAACP. The roles they played were critical in the civil
rights movement were critical, the actions they took included peaceful demonstrations and marches,
public speeches, and boycotts such as the one that took place in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955.

The government increases the cost of the health care for people who earn more and help others

Schlafly believes that as a mother, it is your job to honor the title of a mother, and put your child
/children s needs ahead of your own. As a wife, you must respect your commitment to your
husband and do the best you can to help and take care of your family. The feminist movement is
steering women away from that, and gives women the idea that their self sacrificing role of
taking care of and dedicating their lives to their children is less important then becoming equal to
men and living in focus of you. The women s liberation is causing wives and mothers with good
families to walk out, in order to chase their self fulfillment. Women no longer want to be burdened
with the obligation to take care of a family and raise children, instilling their values into them so
they grow up to be strong and positive people in society. Feminism is giving women the idea that
they are second class citizens, and they must fight men, their enemy, for the oppression that they

Fundamental Principles of Adult Education Essay
Fundamental Principles of Adult Education
University of Phoenix
AET 505
August 15, 2011
Abstract
Part of being a good, quality educator is to learn the learning styles of the students and adapt to
those forms of learning. Adult learning is growing, more and more are going to college at later
stages in life. Out of the 35 people, there will be many different learning styles. Malcom Knowles is
known for defining characteristics of adult learning.
Malcom Knowles
Malcom Knowles studied in the field of adult learning. His main goal was to develop a theory
about andragogy, which is a theory specifically for adult learning. Knowles notes that adults are
self directed and are expected to take responsibility for decisions. Adult learning ... Show more

To learn is obviously a mental process, but how a person learns needs to be determined. Some
people have a more hands on approach to learning, while others are visual learners. An example
would be someone who had dyslexia and sees things backwards; they need different instructions
to take in the information. Also, people act differently. An example would be myself, I have
ADHD. I do not like to sit for long periods of time because I just can t keep my concentration.
Keeping the attention of such an age span could pose problems. Keeping lectures short, mixing
things up, taking a break could all be ways to make sure everyone s able to pay attention and get
the most out of the teachings.
Sociocultural
The world that we live in shapes the people we are, how we do things, and how we live. Cultures
dictate a lot of learning, as does family status. People that have families live busy lives. A
traditional family today now has two working parents, along with kids. If they are taking classes
in addition to their hectic schedule they don t have time to waste, are focused and determined.
Whereas, a twenty year old with no wife and no children is more likely the one to put less effort
into the homework, more likely to miss class, and more likely to do the minimal amount of work to
get by. Teaching methods must encourage all ages, cultures, and races.
Cognitive
Cognitive learning is how the brain processes information. All ages

The Trinity Research Paper
The Trinity is the basis of the gospel, and the gospel is the declaration of the Trinity in action. (J I
Packer, likesuccess.com) The Trinity consists of God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy
Spirit, yet they make up one God. It is the simple philosophy of the 3 in 1 or three persons, one
essence first brought up by Tertullian. It is this philosophy that allows Christianityto be a
monotheism. The definition of the Trinityaccording to the Merriam Webster dictionary is the unity
of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead according to Christian dogma.
The basis of the Trinity is that there is God the Father, Jesusthe Son, and the Holy Spirit. There are
three separate parts, yet they make up one. While this is confusing to the naked ear, it actually
makes logical sense on a deeper level. Scholars and philosophers struggled for years to give a valid
explanation of the Trinity. It was not until Tertullian in the 2nd or 3rd century AD that a satisfactory
explanation was given. Tertullian came up with the Trinitarian Doctrine, which basically... Show

In fact, some people go as far as to say the Trinity does not exist at all. However, in Genesis 1:26
it says Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness... . Take note that
he says us and our , implying that he is talking to someone else. He could not be talking to the
humans because they were not created yet. If he was talking to the animals then humans would
look more like a bird, or fish, or wolf and humans clearly do not. So what or who was he talking
to? It is clear he was talking to the Trinity and if he was talking to the Trinity and it says nowhere
in Genesis that God created the Trinity, then the Trinity must have existed with God before the
creation of the world. Therefore the Trinity and God are

Different portrayals of women in Antigone and Lysistrata
The different portrayals of female characters Antigone and Lysistrata illustrate the fundamental
nature of the proper Athenian woman. Sophocles Antigone allows the reader to see that outrage
over social injustices does not give women the excuse to rebel against authority, while Aristophanes
Lysistratareveals that challenging authority in the polis becomes acceptable only when it s faced
with destruction through war. Sophoclesand Aristophanes use different means to illustrate the same
idea; the ideal Athenian womans ultimate loyalty lies with her polis. This Greek concept of the
proper woman seems so vital when considering Athenian society because both a tragedy and
comedy revolve around this concept. The differing roles accorded to... Show more content on

Lysistrata comes to the conclusion that the only way to save Athens from destruction in war comes
with defiance of her husband. In her role of rebel within the family, Lysistrata decides to ...compel
[her] husband to make peace by withholding sex from him until he stops his disastrous warring
behavior (Lysistrata, 7). She concludes, ...there are a thousand ways of tormenting [him] that will
lead to the ultimate safety of Athens (Lysistrata, 9). Unlike Antigone, Lysistrata realistically
considers the possible consequences of her actions. She understands that the consequences of
rebellion against her husband could be dire. Lysistrata recognizes that her husband might beat her
or even rape her in order to get physical satisfaction, but she also realizes that her husband would,
...soon tire of the game there s no satisfaction for a man, unless a woman shares it (Lysistrata, 9).
Lysistrata acknowledges that defying her husband will have consequences, but she chooses to
realistically face those possible consequences, and continues knowing that her actions will benefit
Athens. Aristophanes reveals that a woman s greatest allegiance lies with her polis through
Lysistrata s role of rebel within her family to save Athens.
Lysistrata takes the position of leader in her relationships with other women; she encourages her
followers to fight for the betterment of their polis; thus, she

The Factors Of Proto-Industrialisation
It is known by many that Britain was the first state to industrialise. Proto Industrialisation was
characterised by certain factors in the 18th century in the correct combination and this gave Britain
the comparative advantage to industrialise when they did. Setting them ahead in their development
before the rest of the world. Mendels (1972), stated simply that Proto industrialisation was the first
phase in the industrialisation process, and that is exactly what is was. It was the phase in which the
preconditions to allow industrialisation to occur were set up. Why after many centuries was Britain
suddenly able to Industrialise before other nations?

In this transition we see traditional agrarian families becoming involved in a market orientated
production. The land was no longer the primary source of wealth. There was a move towards the
commercialisation of agriculture in the time of proto industrialisation. Peasants would produce
crops and goods for sale on the international market rather than for their own consumption. Peasants
had to accumulate money to trade within the town centres because they could no longer produce
all of their own goods. The development of town centres is another way in which we see a shift
towards capitalism. Goods were being sold to make a profit and not only to sustain a

Meares-Irlen Syndrome Analysis
Imagine seeing everything in blue? In November 2015 I was officially diagnosed with Meares
Irlen Syndrome. I was prescribed blue/turquoise tinted glasses and for everything to be printed
on blue paper. This has had a large impact on my life as I struggle to read anything that is not in
blue unless I want to strain my eyes, and obviously, everything is not going to be printed on blue
paper. This has impacted my life for the worse as through confidence issues I find it difficult to
ask people to print my work in blue for me.
Meares Irlen Syndrome is an incurable form of visual stress which mainly affects people with
dyslexia. Meares Irlen Syndrome was discovered in 1980 by New Zealand teacher, Olive Meares
and American psychologist Helen Irlen. In 1983, Irlen wrote a paper about how overlays can
help aid people when reading, she named this Scotopic Sensitivity . Although personally, I do not
have dyslexia, this condition still affects me. My Meares Irlen Syndrome causes me to misread

Irlen was annoying as I felt different and isolated from others. It was also a relief to finally know
what was wrong with my eyes although it has knocked my confidence and I do not feel

Formula one (F1) championship was the second most watched sporting event on the planet, which
estimated 110 million unique viewers per race. Lotus F1 team is one of the most successful F1
team. It had won respectively 7 constructors world titles. And it had won two world title. When
they were fighting for third place in the Championship, an awful news that the 2014 season would
bring a bunch of disruptive changes came out. What s worse, its best driver, Kimi Räikkönen,
had announced that he would leave the team at the end of the 2014 season.
This case mentioned many issues, like driver management issue, budget management issue, and etc.
In the following essay, I list two alternative to solve these issues, and then I also give some criteria
to evaluate these alternatives. In the end, I also give my own way to implement my
recommendations.
Problem Statement
Lotus F1 team was a British formula one racing team. It had a strong racing heritage and had won
two World Titles under the Renault name in 2005 and 2006. It had contracts with two primary
drivers and three test drivers. When Lotus F1 was fighting for third place in the championship, a
thunderbolt jumped out and posted a big and common problem to every F1 team.
Three major problems were presented by this case: driver management issue, budget management
issue and product design issue. F1 drivers primary role was to pilot the team s car with
consistency and win points. A good driver is one of the most valuable assets of

Edith Budge Influence
In addition, Budge also directly influenced at least two authors. The first of these authors was
Edith Nesbit. She was the British author who wrote The Story of the Amulet (1906), a children s
novel. In the novel, a group of kids get their hands on an Ancient Egyptian amulet near the British
Museum in London. Nesbit dedicated the novel to E. A. Wallis Budge after talking with him
about the book before she wrote it. The story was clearly influenced by the concept of Egyptian
magic, as well as curses, as the children are told the amulet will grant their heart s desire. The
amulet then sends them back in time, and allows them to understand the language of ancient Egypt.
This narrative is clearly influenced by the tales of Egyptian magic Budge described.... Show more

Rider Haggard, also corresponded directly with Budge. Haggard wrote King Solomon s Mines
(1885), a novel that tells of a group of adventurers searching in an unknown part of Africa for one
of the member s missing brother. The novel could be seen as having colonialist themes, due to the
uncomfortable exchanges between white and black characters. Not only that, there are also
references to curses in this novel. Though the stories were different, Sands O Connor, a British
literary critic, talks about some of their shared similarities. Both authors had interests in Egypt, but
due to their lack of knowledge, consulted the British Museum before writing their novels. According
to Sands O Connor, Nesbit and Haggard valued and trusted the opinions of Keeper Budge enough to
submit various drafts of their manuscripts to him and to be humbled by his encouragement. Thus,
there was a direct correlation between fiction authors and archeologists at the time. With that in
mind, the documents written by Budge, and his more bigoted counterparts, become even more

The Path of a Buddhist Essay
The Path of a Buddhist
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama.
Today, Buddhism has an estimated seven hundred million followers, known as Buddhists. Most
practicing Buddhists believe in ideas such as karma, dharma, samsara and nirvana. In addition to
these, Buddhists base their lives and actions on the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
Taught by Gautama, the Noble Eightfold path is a theory, that when put into action, serves as a way
to end suffering (The Noble Eightfold Path). In Buddhism, the belief is that life is suffering.
Through out his life, Gautama, searched endlessly for a means of liberation from this suffering.

It also provides a means to grasp the impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly things, and to
understand the law of karma. It is the first teaching because one s worldview will determine one s
thoughts and right view yields right actions (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Intention deals with positive and negative energy and the commitment to mental self
improvement. The Buddha explains right intention as threefold: the intention of renunciation, the
intention of good will, and the intention of harmlessness . These intentions include the resistance of
desire, aversion or anger, and acts of cruelty or aggressiveness (Bodhi).
Right Speech is deeply emphasized among all Buddhist because of the severe consequences of
speech; words can save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace. Buddha explained
his third principle as abstinence from false speech, abstinence from slanderous speech and not to
use words maliciously against others, abstinence from harsh words that offend or hurt others, and
finally abstinence from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Action encompasses many ideas in one principle. It gives restriction to the way one should
use their body. To a Buddhist Right Action includes but is not limited to abstaining from taking
another s life or one s own life, stealing and behaving unchastely. The idea of Right Action is based
in respect; self respect and respect for everything else that is

frequency of the experience. Van O s Verdoux (1999) demonstrated that experiences of psychotic
symptoms and/ or beliefs were common in non clinical populations, through clinical interviews of
non clinical subjects. Tien (1991) found that life time prevalence of hallucinations in their cohort

American Industrial Revolution
Spinning Machines have helped the American Industry for as long as they have been around. The
idea of having a spinning machine was to make wool into yarn; this made it easier for people in
the clothing industry more productive with the making of their products. Compared to today s

An Analysis Of Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
Arnel John Chester Gasic
Professor Stricker
GEW 101
November 3, 2015
The Irony in Cannibalism Humor in serious topics can bring the light side of things and can also
bring more attention than just talking about them. In Modest Proposal written by Jonathan Swift,
he uses humor to talk about the famine that was happening back then and proposes an economical
idea. By using the word Proposal in his title, he gives a reasonably suggestion to aid the Irish, Swift
mentions them one by one the many benefits and counters the objections many may have, uses
rhetorical reasoning and proves his humanitarian views. Swift has written in detail over the degree
of poverty in IReland, he draws attention to the causes of it and proves in great detail that his
Proposal will work in which ways it does work. Jonathan Swift had a rough childhood only raised
by his mother. Swift s mother did not have a steady income and struggled to raise Swift all by
her self. Swift was later passed on to his dad s brother who was wealthy. Transitioning from poor
to wealthy was difficult for Swift but it let him see both sides of the world. Swift worked as
English statesman for 10 years and helped for political errands (The Biography.com Editors
2015). In 1712, he moved back to Ireland as soon as he saw that Tories would fall from power. He
has written many famous writings, including Gulliver s Travel Ireland was a colony of England; it
was economically, politically, and militarily

  • 2. Louis Giannetti Neorealism Neorealism, as the name suggests, is a new realism. Louis Giannetti gives a definition in the book Understanding Movies that Strongly realistic in its techniques, neorealism emphasized documentary aspects of film art, stressing loose episodic plots, unextraordinary event and characters, natural lighting, actual location settings, nonprofessional actors, a preoccupation with poverty and social problems, and an emphasis on humanistic and democratic ideas. (Giannetti, 2004, 538). Bicycle Thieves and Pather Panchali are two movies that represent this style. First, Bicycle Thieves is a representative work of Italian neorealism. Italian neorealism actually rose in frustration. After World War II, all neglected matters in Italy were yet to be dealt with. Reflected in the area of film production, the war destroyed the film factory and created scarcity of resources. The film industry was almost breakdown. In such an environment, low budget film emerged as the time required. In Bicycle Thieves, the main characters, the unemployed worker and his son, were played by two non professional actors. Their acting is really powerful. The father s cry at the end of the movie touches the heart. Maybe he had a natural good acting, but I prefer that the realistic experience brought up such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actors in this kind of film may be not professional, but they are close to the characters; The directors do not want the best equipment and studio; they even do not need professional post production; they would not choose a big event, because they believe that small potatoes and little incidents also can record society. Reflected in the specific works, Bicycle Thieves and Pather Panchali adopted this attitude. Both of these two movies seems full of non professional. But they use non professional created miracle. Because of Indian background, Pather Panchali have more native style, which is not focus on the aftermath of war, but the people in the bottom of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Graffiti Art If you were to go open a dictionary and look up the definition of art, you would see that it has art as The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination... ( Art 2017) and Works produced by human creative skill and imagination. ( Art 2017). From these definitions, graffiti is art, yet in most cases, it s considered vandalism because it is done without permission of the property. When graffitiis done in a designated place or with the permission of the property owner, then it can truly be considered art. But even if these circumstances are not met, if the graffiti goes beyond a simple tag, it is art. If you walk through almost any city, the buildings, bridges, and any other available spaces are seemingly filled with colors, picture, and words that are not part of the original architecture. This graffiti, which is a mix of tags, stencils, pieces, and freestyle, seems to have almost taken over cities across the world. Some of this graffiti, such as tags, are eyesores, but some pieces, such as the High Line Love Is the Answer and Kiss murals in New York City, are sites that have become iconic pieces of artwork. Unfortunately, pieces like these are also starting to be covered to a seemingly astronomical rate, which is causing outrage among those who visited to them. Graffiti is derived from the Greek word graphien which means drawing on a surface such as stone. It was originally created as a word to describe the illegal drawings that ancient ... • 4. The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children, especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure of female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to time and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental influences capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of children. Specifically, the connection between motherand daughter body types and eating habits, examined both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body dissatisfaction and negative attitudes towards food a trend that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control from their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a lack of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the attitudes around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across race and culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they hold about their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight concern. With the ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every corner of the globe, the pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with their bodies does not bode well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not, mothers inadvertently tell their daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a source of pleasure to be enjoyed (Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a part of their traditional role as a mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the more important thinness becomes for both themselves and their children. Conversely, there has been research which places the risk of skewed body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Round House Erdrich The novel The Round House revolves around the questionable morality of vengeance. Louise Erdrich, shares the tale of a young boy and his endeavor to gain vengeance for his mother s rape. Through the eyes of Joe Coutts, a story of crime and justice unfolds. Joe s aggression emerges after he discovers his mother, Geraldine, is raped. Consequently, Joe attempts to avenge his mother by locating the perpetrator, Linden Lark, and killing him. Does Joe s quest to find vengeance, justify his plot for murder? The moral conflict between justice and vengeance interferes with Joe s plan. Erdrich voices, I don t remember that they even looked at me or I at them after the shock of that first moment when we all realized we were old (317). Joe finds out the judge is uncertain whether Lark can be accused at all, this sparks Joe to carry on his own personal quest for retribution. But although conflict as to the effects of smoking and bans on smoking by certain religious groups, the use of tobacco continued to develop (The Columbia Encyclopedia, 1). The roots of advertising exist thousands of years in the past. One of the first known ways of advertising was the outdoor display, usually an eye catching sign painted on the wall of a building. In medieval times word of mouth praise of products gave rise to a simple but effective form of advertising, the use of so called town criers. The criers were citizens who read public notices aloud and were also employed by merchants to shout the praiser of their waves. Although graphic forms of advertising appeared early in history, printed advertising made little headway until the invention of the printing press. In the end of 19th century many companies began to produce packaged products under brand names. This increase was used in a new period in the history of advertising. Previously, such everyday household goods as sugar, soap, rice, molasses, butter, milk, lard, beans, confectionery, candles, and pickles had been sold in nearby shops from bulk packages. As a conclusion, consumers had seldom been aware of, or inspired by, brand names. Public relations specialists have advertising as a way of communication, that is why outdoor posters, ... • 9. The Cask Of Amontillado, And The Masque Of The Red Death Edgar Allen Poe, a master of suspense, wrote stories over a hundred and fifty years ago that remain popular today. One of Poe s suspense techniques in these short stories are unreliable characters. An unreliable character is a character, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose credibility has been seriously compromised. The unreliable narrator forces the reader to ask questions like, Is this true? rather than Who did it? or What happened? Poe uses unreliable characters in many of his stories very effectively to keep the reader guessing what is ultimately true. The narrator says, I heard all things in heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How then am I mad? This shows that he is unreliable, he asks himself how he is mad but, right before he said he heard things in heaven and hell. That is unreliable. Poe also doesn t name the unreliable narrators in these stories which makes them unreliable. He does name other characters that are more reliable including, the old man and Pluto in The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat. Additionally, Poe uses violence and death to show that the characters were unreliable. In The Black Cat the main character cut his cats eye out and then, hangs his cat. In The Tell Tale Heart the main character chokes the old man to death. This is unreliable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World hunger outside the United States will be running rampant because of an inadequate food supply. Houses will start to pop up on all of the United States prime farmland. If we continue to bash corporate farming, this is the world we would be looking at. Family farms would thrive because there is little competition. The leader of the National Family Farm Coalition, Bill Cristison states, There needs to be a far greater understanding in this country about the important role of family farmers in providing for our nations food supply and food security (Christison). The truth is family farms do not produce enough goods to support the demand in the United States. People can t see that we need corporate farming and it is a good thing for the national government to support any type of farming. In my mind, Cristison must not want to support farming at all because he rejects the 2002 Farm Bill. Cristison states, Representative Larry Combest, the House Agriculture Committee chairman, has said publicly that the winners of this Farm Bill are American farmers. I strongly disagree. The winners of this farm bill are corporate agribusiness (Christison). This bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This would make up for losses that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for farming? Family farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm you will receive more money. That is how it should work, much like taxes in a sense that you pay based on the size of your income. This bill was the only logical agreement reached by the national government on how to help its farmers. I know exactly what people in this country want to see when they think of agriculture. He is describing how he thinks and wishes about things that are forbidden. In the book Anthem, one topic of discussion is technology and science. Technology and science is presumed to be feared in the book and is primitive. The government and most of the city s citizens are programmed to be fearful of new inventions and discoveries. In the book, Equality 7 2521 has discovered that he is different from all of the others. He is more attentive and more intelligent. The Teachers in the Home of the Students disapprove of his ability to be superior to others. He was sentenced to be a Street Sweeper, to try to prevent his creativity. As the people of medical West Africadid not generally record information through their own written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities in the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and Gao, architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records. Simerly, Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would have come to the Mali Empire to study. • 21. Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed. But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a womans power to exercise their control over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence. In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute. Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics. Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Increased incidences of abiotic and biotic stresses are likely to cause serious negative impact on crop production. Abiotic stress is defined as the negative impact of non living factors on the living organisms in a specific environment. The non living variable must influence the environment beyond its normal range of variation to adversely affect the performance or individual organism in a significant way. This leads to decrease in the productivity by more than 50% in major crop plants which are growing word wide (Bray et al., 2000). Increased water stress, reduction in rainfall and increased air temperature are the major reasons for yield decline in wheat and paddy crops in many parts of South Asia. The average increase in temperature per decade is measured to be 0.28 ВєC over land and 0.12 ВєC over ocean and predicted that it is likely to rise further to a maximum of 2.5 ВєC by 2050 and 5.8 ВєC by 2100 (Jones et al., 1999; Grover et al., 2011). The principal abiotic stresses in India are drought or soil moisture stress, high temperatures, soil salinity/alkalinity, low pH and metal toxicity stresses that affect nearly two thirds area forming parts of the arid and semi arid eco systems (Grover et al., 2011). Seismologists image the internal part of the Earth by tracing the paths of seismic waves created by earthquakes as they move through the ground. The waves move faster through colder rocks and less quickly through warmer rocks. Rocks cool and harden as they become older, so the faster seismic waves, the older the rock. The researchers used tremors created by earthquakes a little more than 2,000 miles away to create a 3D map of the mantle. They discovered that plate thickness in the southeast U.S. is uneven, they saw thick areas of dense, aged rock stretching down and thin areas of less dense, younger ... The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just affect the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and the costal habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil wellin the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an explosion. Oil leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months, causing more than 200 million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In addition to the oil, almost 2 million gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill was a deadly accident that caused a lot of harm; it destroyed Gulf fishing and tourism industries. The spill injured 17 people and 11 people lost their lives. Technology has advanced so much that BP can add leak detection devices to the wells. The basis of the Trinity is that there is God the Father, Jesusthe Son, and the Holy Spirit. There are three separate parts, yet they make up one. While this is confusing to the naked ear, it actually makes logical sense on a deeper level. Scholars and philosophers struggled for years to give a valid explanation of the Trinity. Work by several researchers (Bentall, 1993; Kendler, Gallagher, Abelson Kessler, 1996; Freeman; 2006) showed that the difference between non clinical and clinical populations was not in the experience of hearing voices, seeing visions or even experiencing delusional thinking, but in the frequency of the experience. Van O s Verdoux (1999) demonstrated that experiences of psychotic symptoms and/ or beliefs were common in non clinical populations, through clinical interviews of non clinical subjects. Tien (1991) found that life time prevalence of hallucinations in their cohort (not related to organic illness), was between 10 and 15% in males and females respectively. Eaton and his colleagues (1991) found that 10% and 5% of participants experienced paranoid symptoms and hallucinations respectively, in a mental health survey. In a survey of over 8000 people in Britain, Johns and colleagues in 2004 (2005) found that participants reported experiencing someone following them or someone acting deliberately to harm them, 20 and 10% respectively. Freeman and colleagues (2005) found a variation of paranoid ideation expressed in a survey of over 1200 students. Using the Paranoia Checklist, they found thoughts ranging from believing negative comments were being circulated about them, to others wanting to harm them. And I will not leave the light on in the hall. You are fourteen, grow up. My parents never seem to understand my fear of the dark, and of my closet. They tell me over and over that there is nothing in that closet. They think I am too old to be afraid of something like that. When I tell them that things get changed in my roomat night they never seem to believe me either. I have taken pictures of my stuff before I go to bed, and then taken pictures of it in the morning, evidence that my stuff has been moved, and they still don t believe me. Tonight is just another one of those nights. I guess mom had a bad day because she is really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I speedily ran back to my room. I donned my slippers and my winter coat, and placed a winter cap on my head. I grabbed my massive flashlight and headed out of the door. I happened to look at my clock and stopped dead in my tracks. The clock read 2 o clock on the mark. I stood there, dazedly staring at the clock. I turned the light on in my room and ran out into the hallway. I ran through the entire house flipping on lights madly looking for anything I could find. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that would help me find my mom. I ran out onto the porch and stared out into the pitch black night. What was happening? I walked to the edge of the clearing that our house sat on and followed the driveway for awhile. Suddenly my flashlight died and I found myself totally enclosed in darkness. I began to shake. I walked forward, or what I thought was forward, until I tripped and fell. I groped around and found that I was completely surrounded by trees. I got up and walked back the way I thought I had come. I tripped again and tore my pants. I got back up and stumbled like this in the dark for what seemed like an eternity. I wandered for what seemed like hours. Suddenly I heard a sound. I stopped dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of Spinning Machines was introduced by James Hargreaves in 1764. Hargreaves before his invention was working as a weaver and carpenter in his home country of land Sandhill, Lancashire. He himself was illiterate, but he understood weavers problem with trying to produce thread. He presented his Spinning Jenny, named after his wife... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the amount of woman that worked in textiles factories increased, to the amount that was higher than men ( Textile Workers ). Though woman still earned less than men during that period. The people that help to build and manage Spinning Machines did make some money of off them at first but, many of the inventors of Spinning Machines such as John Kay and Samuel Crompton died in poverty, mainly due to large debt and business failure. Slater and Arkwright as the Father s to their own industry build up, both had some money towards the end of their life. Since the spinning and yarning process was made easier the cost of labor was diminished. Before the invention of Arkwright s Spinning Jenny, workers in the factories had to weave wool into yarn by hand with their ordinary Spinning Wheel. An Analysis Of Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift Arnel John Chester Gasic Professor Stricker GEW 101 November 3, 2015 The Irony in Cannibalism Humor in serious topics can bring the light side of things and can also bring more attention than just talking about them. In Modest Proposal written by Jonathan Swift, he uses humor to talk about the famine that was happening back then and proposes an economical idea. By using the word Proposal in his title, he gives a reasonably suggestion to aid the Irish, Swift mentions them one by one the many benefits and counters the objections many may have, uses rhetorical reasoning and proves his humanitarian views. Swift has written in detail over the degree of poverty in IReland, he draws attention to the causes of it and proves in great detail that his Proposal will work in which ways it does work. Jonathan Swift had a rough childhood only raised by his mother. Swift s mother did not have a steady income and struggled to raise Swift all by her self. Swift was later passed on to his dad s brother who was wealthy. Transitioning from poor to wealthy was difficult for Swift but it let him see both sides of the world. Swift worked as English statesman for 10 years and helped for political errands (The Biography.com Editors 2015). In 1712, he moved back to Ireland as soon as he saw that Tories would fall from power.
