The Importance Of Ethical Codes In Counselling
Second argument, let s look back at the ethical codes, section A.6.B ( Extending Counseling
Boundaries) states that Counselors consider the risks and benefits of extending current counseling
relationships beyond conventional parameters. In extending these boundaries, counselors take
appropriate professional precautions such as informed consent, consultation, supervision, and
documentation to ensure that judgment is not impaired and no harm occurs. (ACA, 2014). As this code
states, if a therapist takes appropriate steps by documenting everything and discussing events in
supervision, which we are doing now, we should be safe within the ethical code lines. The Most
important point to remember, as long as the client is not hurt during the dual relationship process, we
are maintaining our promise of being ethically professional helpers.
The third argument is that these codes that we abide by in both counseling and art therapy are not the
law. They are merely attempted guidelines for therapists to remind them to not mentally or physically
harm their clients. Most of the codes are vague and contradict themselves, for instance for section 1.4
of the American Art therapy Association codes states that Art therapists refrain from entering into
multiple relationships with clients if the multiple relationships could reasonably be expected to impair
competence or effectiveness of the art therapist to perform his or her functions as an art therapist, or
otherwise risks exploitation or

Graphic Design And Visual Arts
Graphic design and Visual arts are two different artistic fields. The field of Graphic design, which is
responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to clients
and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic designers are
required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books, magazines,
posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays. Visual arts on the
other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and photography and
architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic design is that many people do not think of
graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers. Visual Arts People,
argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors are artist because it
takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create complex graphics. They have to come up
with a design by sketching it out. Then graphic designers have to bring their art to life using the
computer. Both visual artist and graphic designers have a passion for art. They are both creative
professions to pursue. Some people argue that Visual Art people are more hands on with their work;
they use a lot of physical ability to do their art. Graphic designers use technology to do more of their
art. They use objects such as images, symbols, and words to complete

The On Art World And Class Structure
Throughout history, it has always been argued that economic power affect art. By voluntary means, we
produce, trade, buy and sell our products that would benefit us in various ways. Economic power
allows people to exploit their resources in a free market. It has the ability to help others successfully
reach prosperity. Some philosophers claim economic power has a huge impact on art, whereas other
philosophers express a different opinion. Davis and Freeland believes economic power influences art,
but Todd disagrees. 9.5 Theses on Art and Class introduces a list of theories on art world and class
structure. Davis claims class exists in the art world because it is an important factor for art. He states,

Throughout the excerpt, Davis describe the differences between the ruling class, middle class and
working class. The ruling class is identified as a capitalist who has complete control over the realm of
visual arts. These superior individuals would mostly come from large corporations, including auction
houses and corporate collectors; art investors, private collectors, and patrons; and trustees and
administrators of large cultural institutions and universities (Davis 2). Additionally, the ruling class is
also capable of [subjugating], within the sphere of the arts, [and] other possible values of art (Davis 2).
They view art as a luxury good that strengthens their social status. In the art world, the ruling class is
at an advantageous position because they have the most power in all aspects. According to Davis he
writes, [with] craftsmanship or intellectual prestige [it] indicates [your] social status (Davis 2). The
more products you own, the greater your social status. The ruling class develop very little interest in
the art world and their only motive is to gather more power. Davis claims the working class [and
middle class] is controlled from above (Davis 4) for work. In a free market, the ruling class creates
challenges for the middle class and working class to compete with each other for artistic labor.
The middle class describes a person who uses their full potential to design individuality products for
self support. Unlike the ruling

The Replacement Of Wires Of A Prototype Body Area Network...
Abstract
This paper evaluates the replacement of wires in a prototype body area network of wireless sensors.
Sensor nodes which act as slave nodes are used to sense vital human parameters such as Electro
Cardio Graphic (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation SpO2, heart rate, and body temperature [1].
Keeping the normal human body parameters as median values against the variations in the Lower and
Higher levels towards the maximum abnormal conditions are tabulated for further analysis. A
stochastic model has been developed with threshold human values against the variation of parameters
in both directions. An algorithm is developed to identify the abnormalities in the human values which
leads to disease diagnosis. The identified values are converted into the relevant binary format, and this
binary format of human values sent to the hospital server for doctoral assessment through General
Packet Radio Service (GPRS), by using of Microcontroler Unit or Master Node. In the identification
process, If the master node identifies any one above mentioned human parameter values have been
exceeded the threshold value, then it sends the alert message to the human care person through Short
Message Service (SMS), all communication encrypted with Festiel Cipher Structure.
Background
In the contemporary gadgeted era, human patients are continuously monitored during their stay in the
hospital. It gives rise to inconvenience and psychological strain to the patients during their stay

Weaknesses Of Ir, It Is Not The Silver Bullet That Will...
Weaknesses of IR
Although there are a lot of strengths for IR, it is not the silver bullet that will completely change
accounting forever. One of the main weaknesses of IR is the expenses that come with measuring such
a comprehensive range of factors that include non monetary factors that can be hard to actually
measure (Eccles Krzus, 2010). It can be unappealing for smaller companies or organisations to set up
all of these systems in order to provide a wider perspective of their business or organisation just to
please stakeholders, when the costs will outweigh the potential profits of attracting new investors.
Another issue would be potential information overload for less knowledgeable individuals who will
simply be overwhelmed by all the information provided by IR. There is a question of how important is
it to report more comprehensively if the end user will simply be unable to use all of the information to
their advantage, which raises another question of if it is worth reporting in an IR format at all.
Time is also a major issue for some companies who may have less labour to spare in order to report on
what can be considered less important aspects of an organisation, especially if it is a small to medium
sized enterprise. There have been reports of some integrated reports being three times as longer than
estimated to be completed (Eccles Saltzman, 2011). It can be very hard to justify allocating that many
hours to prepare a report that some may find unnecessary or

Why Apollo Has Changed Modern Day History
Apollo is also known as Phoebus , a well respected individual is the know god of many things. To
begin with, the god of music, as he plays a golden lyre(harp). The god plagues and of healing as he
gives the science of medicine to man. Secondly, the god of light, as he carry s the sun. Finally, the god
of truth and oracles as the patron who gave wisdom in Delphi.
Apollo had a very important task, which was to acquire his four horse chariot and drag the sun across
the sky each and every day. Furthermore a few of his famous attributes were his muscular physique,
handsome face, and his impressive locks of golden hair, only possible with his very own herbal
shampoo. Resting above his hair was a wreath made of a Laurel tree, and lastly was known to be an
archer and had a beautiful silver bow. In this report of the Greek god Apollo you will discover the
significant importance of how Apollo has changed modern day history as well as the Roman gods time
period.
Background
Apollon, Latin for Apollo, has quite a wide speard array of material to cover. To begin with let s start
with his birth, Apollo was the son of Leto, god of the Titanesses and Zeus, the god of gods (royal
parentage). He was born on the island of Delos off the coast of Palestine. He and his older twin sister
Artemis, also an Olympian, shared an aptitude for archery. His forename, Phoebus, means bright or
pure and connects him to his grandmother, the Titan Phoebe. Apollo was a wise God, he was mostly a

King Arthur Isolationist
While it is true that some of the Arthurian Narratives show a violent process of cultural and
geopolitical circulation, I believe claiming the whole of the Arthurian legend to be this way is
problematic. The same can be said for the claim that Arthur is both expansionist and isolationist.
These traits typically depend on the time period and the origin of the author. For example, Geoffrey of
Monmouth shows a violent process of cultural and geopolitical circulation while also being
isolationist in his Latin Historia Regum Britannie. After Arthur is crowned, he has to give a gift to all
his men, but he has nothing to give, so Arthur, accordingly, in whom courage was combined with
generosity, decided to harry the Saxons, so he could bestow their wealth on the retainers who served
him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While doing this, he does manage to concur more land that will probably be made Christian, but this
story was more a chance for the writer to complain about current rulers during his time by comparing
them to Arthur. At the end of his piece, he states, I am always amazed that King Arthur was so
generous a man and the lords nowadays are so miserly. King Arthur did well to relinquish so readily
such a rich land... Here he is implying that they should be similar to the Britain s because King Arthur
was obviously a very great lord. Because of this, I would argue that this story does not show a sense of
cultural isolation. der Stricker wants his lords to act similarly to King Arthur. In most cases, the quest
involved seems to involving concurring, but in the case of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, no one
was being concurred, and there was no cultural anxiety necessarily present. Gawain was simply going
on a quest to prove himself. This writer manages to include both French manner, Christianity, and
pieces of the Latin chronicles without conflicts

potential hazard I saw whilst carrying out a risk assessment whilst at a health and social care setting

attempts to chew on any of the little objects. The sockets in the room were dangerous as they did not
have safety caps on. This could have electrocuted any of the children if they touched any of the
sockets with wet fingers. This may have lead to more then first aid treatment. Also, if they poked
something into the sockets something metal they could have become hurt again. It is likely for this to
happen if all the children are not being watched or if they come from the toilet and do not dry their
hands. To minimise the risks of the children getting hurt by the sockets, all the children should be
watched and assisted in anything they want to do and if they want to try to turn on anything electronic
the staff members should put in the plug and turn it on rather than the children attempting it. Also,

The Ethics Of Animal Testing By Robin Mckie
The ethics of animal tests: inside the lab where marmosets are given Parkinson s by Robin McKie
examines the situation of marmosets who are subjected to testing and experiments. McKie uses
several literary techniques such as statistics, case studies and emotive language in his article to not
only communicate the cruel and unjustifiable nature of animal testing, but also the necessity we
humans have for it; while experimenting on animals can be considered immoral, it s still a much better
alternative than using humans.
Emotive language is used several times throughout the article. McKie describes the marmosets as
being no bigger than cats. This automatically causes us to think of the marmosets in the same way that
they think of cats; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader assumes from what McKie wrote about animal testing that the researchers must be callous
individuals who are indifferent to animal suffering, but in truth they have an innate love of animals.
McKie provides evidence of this by describing how they end up knitting hammocks for the animals
and having favourites. He mentions an interview with a King s College technician which supports his
evidence. A different employee also claimed that researching on marmosets had allowed them to
develop medicines which have allowed patients to run their lives normally. Prior to King s College s
experiments on marmosets, Parkinson s patients were a mass of uncontrollable movement, jerking and
waving their hands and arms. McKie convinces the reader of why, while animal testing can be seen as
unethical and wrong, it still is very important in the medical field. I feel that the life of a human has
greater value than that of an animal, and that in this case the means justifies the end. By sacrificing
hundreds of animals for experiments we end up saving thousands of humans.
Throughout his article, McKie uses a great variety of phrases and techniques to strikingly portray the
reality of animal testing and the lesser known activities which happen behind the scenes. He
powerfully communicates both the negative and positive features of using animals in experiments
without definitively taking a side, thus he lets us form our own opinions on the morality of animal
testing. Personally, I am a proponent of the use of animals in medical experiments solely because I am
convinced that they are the most reliable and accurate was to gauge the effectiveness of

Birdcage: This amazing artifact shows the thought of birds and the respect towards them. This
birdcage is well designed and durable, the nobles would have a sturdy and an elegant birdcage while a
commoner would have a simple looking cage, using the less sturdy material. The Aztecs used birds for
sacrifices and for appearances and they used several birds feathers, for decoration, clothing, and for
fans. Birds were highly respected though the most respected bird was the quetzal. The quetzal was
highly respected for its feathers and its appearance, you see the quetzal s appearance looked similar to

They liked to keep track of their days, and when to pray for their gods. The calendar was very
important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued sacrifices
and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were organized, and they
had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled at many things and they
had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their gods. Their main purpose,
stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of the gods as highly important, and
they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing
when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time.
Overall calendars were highly important to Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives,
knowing what day to trade (for merchants), or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out
of stone, they were carved and chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture,
it took a lot of time and precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time,
the Aztecs wanted to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray.
Making the calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher
you obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. The
calendar was important to religion and teachers would need to pass the information on how to use a
calendar or else the next generation wouldn t be able to know how to use an important tool for
praying, festivals, and sacrifices. Teachers needed to teach kids and pass down information about the
calendar or else there would be a lack of accuracy when to pray and when to sacrifice. This artifact
excavated is highly

Failure In The Odysseus
The Role Failure has in Success
It is okay to be a glowstick, sometimes we need to break before we shine ( 12 quotes That will

have a new start, to grow bigger then they ever were. In order to have success, sometimes failure
comes first, this happens in today s life, and the Odyssey.
Odysseus was a brave and strong man that got through unimaginable dangers, but that doesn t mean
he didn t have any failure that led to his success. Odysseus was a leader to all of his men, but his
orders are not always followed. In the story, The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus was sent

them go bad out to sea, and forced them to stay in the island for a long time. One night Odysseus fell

Role Of Atheism In Australia
Synopsis:
The atheism is accounted for its historic existence of fundamentalist religion in Australia. Australians
perceived to be peculiar in responding to religion which neither gives comfort to believer nor to
atheist, as both are appalled by anything but full commitment. Peter Jensen, future Anglican
Archbishop of Sydney, and Bruce Wilson claimed at the same time that Australia was a pagan nation
and not a religious by its actions or attitudes. Australians objection to Christianity is that it failed to
make people morally any better than those with unbelief. While Peter Jensen emphasized that morality
is not Christianity. Tom Frame explained that the abandonment of religion is inevitable as the growing

Though, their writings are not fairly described as anti theistic yet both would personally welcome the
demise of religion. Frame has tried to highlight some elements of the arguments against God s
existence offered by Adams and Lane with expectations to identify specifically Australian forms of
unbelief. Frame writes that when atheism was mentioned in Australia often identified with Adams and
considered him as apostle of atheism. He was motivated to write opinion pieces in favor of atheism
because humanity s denial of death was the source of its ingenious ability to muffle morality with
euphemism . Adams thinks that Australia has lost fervor for faith so that ticking the box of religion in

The sports played at eden park are rugby, cricket, and soccer. This is the place where people can
support their country or team, in playing that sport they are interested in. rugby has had a huge part in
supporting eden park, due to the 2011 rugby world cup being held there.
Founders: the founder of Eden park was a man named Harry Ryan, as he walked past this piece of
land he saw a space where he could play his favourite game, cricket. Soon enough construction began
and soon Eden park was born. The idea for the Colosseum came from a man named Titus Flavius, this
was due to the amount of people coming to the games before the Colosseum was built. Up to 60,000
people would come and watch the games in a field. Titus saw that too many people were coming so he
thought about building a structure that was able to hold up to 80,000 people at a time. This was also
for people to be comfortable at the games. Conclusion: In conclusion the Colosseum and eden park
have their differences and similarities. They both carry their own history and have a lot of stories to
tell. Without the Colosseum we probably wouldn t have most of the structures we see today, and many
people should be grateful for the time and effort put into building these

Analysis Of Dundee Fc And Dundee s Impact On Implications...
Dissertation Rationale
Why this particular Project?
The topic I have chosen for my dissertation is Dundee Fc and Dundee Hibernian The Impact and
implications of World war one.
I intend to look at the Primary impact of the war if there were men that fought and look at if they were
impacted by specific events during the war. Looking at similarities of between other football clubs
such as the Hearts of Midlothian or McCrays battalion . I have chosen this topic because it is a subject
that I have a major interest in. Also it is a topic that I feel is relatively untouched. I believe that as a
fourth year student in History I now need to contribute to my field. This topic is also i feel important
to me as i am from Dundee and also support Dundee FC. Furthermore I feel that football is a
important as it could be used as a propaganda tool during the war (Football grounds were seen as a
good place to get men to enlist.) By looking at the effects on two specific clubs and the effect on the
city I am hoping this topic will tie in with previous work I have done concerning the jute industry in
Dundee during the Great War and how it helped aid it s decline.
Definition of Objectives My objectives for this dissertation are to contribute to my field by improving
the knowledge and awareness of the history of Dundee FC and Dundee Hibernian focused on the First
World War. By looking at the direct effects of the conflict for example, men who fought for their
country and if they were

Nutrition And Its Effects On Health
Just as nutrition can have drastic effects on one s physical health, nutrition can affect one s mental
health as well. The most common mental disorders that are prevalent in numerous countries are
depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The dietary
pattern of the general population in many countries reflect that they are often deficient in many
nutrients, especially essential vitamins, minerals, and omega 3 fatty acids. Deficiency in these
vitamins can lead to depression. Depression is a disorder associated with major symptoms such as
increased sadness and anxiety, loss of appetite, depressed mood, and a loss of interest in pleasurable
activities. The greeks once described depression as chronic melancholy. The term depression was
derived from the Latin verb deprimere, to press down . From the 14th century, to depress meant to
bring down in spirits. It was used as early as 1665 to refer to someone having a great depression of
spirit . Since Aristotle, melancholia had been associated with men of learning and intellectual
brilliance, a hazard of contemplation and creativity. The newer concept abandoned these associations.
A notable feature of the diets of patients suffering from mental disorders is the severe deficiency of
these nutrients. If there is no timely therapeutic intervention, this disorder can lead to various
consequences. When we take a closer look at the diet of depressed people, an interesting observation

The Pros And Cons Of Plastic Surgery

are missing or disfigured. Throughout the years, plastic surgery has become a well known surgery. The
overall percentage on plastic surgery dropped by forty percent for the first time in a decade, total
cosmetic procedures for women and men dropped below thirty one thousand that was the lowest since
the year od 2006. I believe that plastic surgery has very many cons towards it. There are many
statistics that prove that plastic surgery can be a harmful idea to the body. However, there is also many
positive thoughts when looking at the overall picture with plastic surgery. According to the article
Plastic Surgery pit is often done for purely cosmetic reasons, to remove blemished, make unusual
contours more normal, or improve self esteem. Plastic surgery has caused many people to reach the
cancer stage, or even pass away from coming in contact with plastic surgery. While many feels that
plastic surgery has many benefits, it actually has many health risks.

The Application of Psychodynamic Theory Through Dream...
INTRODUCTION Psychodynamic Theory is based on the premise that human behaviour and
relationships are shaped by conscious and unconscious influences and include factors such as internal
processes, personality, motivation and drives, and the importance of childhood experiences. The essay
will discuss and demonstrate the application of dream analysis as a counselling approach and the
personal and technical challenges associated with using the psychoanalytic technique of ‘free

In adults, however, the situation is more complicated as the dreams of adults have been subjected to
distortion, with the dream s so called manifest content ,including the remnants of the previous days
events or thoughts being a heavily disguised derivative of the latent content, dream thoughts present in
the unconscious, consisting of hidden, symbolic and unconscious motives, wishes and fears. The
manifest content of a dream is the actual content of the dream, what actually happened during the
dream. In contrast, the latent content of the dream is the symbolic meaning of the content of the
dream. In order for a counsellor to get to the latent content, the client discusses the dream s manifest
content and is encouraged to free associate about the dream. It then becomes the counsellor’s task
to decipher the dream s latent content through both defense mechanisms that may be present in the
telling of the dream and in the free association about it. There is natural censorship within dreams that
will present when a client talks about the dream, and reservations or repressions that the client
consciously adds into the dream discussion. Each of the repressions and censors must be overcome,
and the counsellor will have to look deep into the content of the discussion to get to the bottom of it.

The settings within short stories often function to define characters and their relationships with others.
The setting in Nadine Gordimer s The Bridegroom is used to define and tell the reader about the

by first examining how the setting is used to define the character of the bridegroom. Thereafter, the
way in which the setting tells the reader about the bridegroom s relationship with his bride will be

workers simultaneously.
The author makes effective use of setting to tell the reader about the characters and relationships found
in The Bridegroom . Setting is used to convey the bridegroom s precise and orderly character, as well
as his isolated existence. His relationships with both his bride and her family are also expressed
through the use of setting. Finally, the setting of the bridegroom s camp and that of the road workers
also serves to tell us about the relationships in the camp. Setting is a highly useful tool in conveying
characterisation and interaction between

The Controversial Role Of Hazing In The Present Day
Hazing is a common ritual found in both academic and employment settings. Although hazing was
instituted a few centuries ago, its prominence can still be seen in modern day society. For that reason,
this paper will examine three areas that includes the background of hazing, the viewpoint comparison
on hazing through two peer reviewed articles, and why hazing is still controversial in the present day.
Background of Hazing
According to Parks, Jones, Ray, Hughey, and Cox (2015), hazing as part of a rite of passage process
dates back to the beginning of mankind with the first documented instances of organized hazing
coming from ancient Greece, where prospective soldiers demonstrated their loyalty through painful
and uncomfortable experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The captain can remind teammates of the hazing prevention workshop and suggest a progressive team
dinner where each senior member of the team provides a food course. (Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2;
p. 17)
Keep in mind that Waldron s (2012) suggestions for reducing hazing may have little influence due to
the countervailing force of peer pressure (Edelman, 2005, p. 328). Therefore, it is highly unlikely that
this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are
needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument.
Taking all this into account, Waldron (2012) has presented a stronger argument than Josefowitz and
Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while
presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by
Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989)
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its
cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for
stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial

The Websites Of Toms Shoes And Apple Inc.
Introduction In this era of consumerism, it is important that any and all organization s websites target
their customers and are easily maneuverable. A website is a marketing tool that gives a face to not
only the product in which one is selling, but the organization itself. The common theme to a great
website, I have noticed, is simplicity. A simple website is easy to navigate and has clear product
descriptions, which is an important facet for keeping the attention span of their targeted consumers.
For this analysis, I will critique the websites of TOMS Shoes and Apple Inc.; both very successful
organizations that have seemed to master this art of simplicity for selling their products. Let s take a
look.
Body
TOMs Shoes, one of the most notable shoe retailers in the entire world, has a purpose behind the
selling of their phenomenal products; and it is quiet different than that of its competition. Shoes for a
better tomorrow is their mission statement, which is on the front page of their website, Toms.com.
Every time they sell a pair of shoes, a pair is given to a child in poverty whom is in need of shoes. I
chose to critique this organization s website solely because of this great mission they serve, and the
means by which they go about doing so. This organization was founded in 2006, and has seen constant
improvement ever since then. With much help from their website and great marketing campaigns, the
company has recently expanded to selling eyewear; with part of its

Gilded Era Vs Progressive Era
After the Great Awakening, a religious and spiritual revival in the colonies, the unofficial United
States aggressed a revolution against Great Britain, which won them a new government, freedom from
an oppressive monarchy, and most importantly, their much earned independence. Eventually, slavery,
a practice that had been used for decades before, became questioned. Congress was split sectionally on
the issue, and soon the Civil War stuck. The north prevailed, and in 1865, the fight for abolition was
over. Soon, reconstruction and industrialisation began to sweep the U.S. into its pre war thriving
economic condition, and new inventions popped up everywhere. Such inventions were one thing to
improve the way we listen to music in the U.S. It empowered the citizens, changing tremendously in

After the north became victorious, the Gilded Age began in the late 1860 s and lasted until around
1896 where the Progressive era took over. Overall, the Gilded age brought in many new European

(Boundless) The Progressive Era, which lasted from about 1890 to 1920 and made change by adding

music made the biggest leap in this collective era through its formation of Jazz in New Orleans. Jazz
was different than anything that had been done before, combining different styles of folk with all other
genres. (General History) Also, in 1877, Edison invented the phonograph, which was a hand made and
operated device that allowed the user to record sound on tinfoil. Edison began to produce these and
started the Edison Speaking Phonograph company, which influenced many other inventors to invent
and start their own labels, and led to the invention of the record player soon after. (Riggs

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Economic Globalization
Economic globalization alludes to the expanding reliance of world economies because of the
developing size of cross outskirt exchange of items and administrations, the stream of universal capital
and wide and quick spread of advancements . ( http://www.un.org/en/development/desa ). The quick
developing importance of data in a wide range of beneficial exercises and marketization are the two
noteworthy main thrusts of financial globalization. Economic Globalization is the expansion in
exchange and capital exchanges crosswise over national limits. There are the two upsides and
downsides of globalization. The advantages incorporate more prominent rivalry, bring down costs,
economies of scale. While globalization can likewise abandon a ton because of the pace of the
advance, this gives more influence for wealthier and more effective multinationals. They can dodge
and sidestep charges while expanding costs on products. A benefit of globalization is about the
efficiencies and openings, open markets make. Business can impart productively and successfully

indistinguishable speed from if they somehow happened to offer in their unique nation. Economic

Jazz Culture
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between jazz music and American culture. In
order to understand how it is related to American society, it s important to understand the origins of
Jazz. With its many different subgenres, it is difficult to define exactly what Jazz is. This paper will be
exploring the origins of Jazz, its development over time, and its role in civil rights movement and
black community.
The Origins of Jazz:
Considered by many to be the only original American art form, Jazz is a style of music developed in
the late 19th and early 20th century in New Orleans. Combining ragtime and blues, early Jazz artists
like Louis Armstrong became the forerunners of what would become known as Jazz. Jazz has some
characteristics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the earliest places to integrate were Jazz clubs, however, it wasn t until people like Norman
Granz a white impresario began to actively fight the hypocrisy of venues hosting black bands but not
serving black patrons that real integration of venues began. Like all music, Jazz is a form of
expression. All Jazz musicians have played the same standards along with their own music, yet, each
version is so different from another. The freedom of expression in Jazz, and the culture of the Jazz
community gave African Americans a chance to make it into the spotlight. Calling attention to social
issues, responding to events, organizing community events, and most of all, uniting people of all
colors in a way that no other art form quite could. Some people believe that the adaptation of Jazz by
white corrupted the genre, however, when the effects of the mixing whites and blacks in Jazz are
looked at in context of the civil rights movement and the fight for equality, it becomes clear that Jazz
was just as instrumental to the success of the movement as speeches and protests were. Jazz has a
special place in American identity. That place will continue to change as time goes on, but it is clear
that the development of Jazz and the culture surrounding the genre were critical to the development of

Some of my favorite times in Europe were when my family would hop into the car and drive off to a
city hours away, maybe even in the neighboring country. It never failed to astonish me how every city
was different from the last. There were always new sights to see, new cuisine to try, and different
happenings going on. If I had to name one thing I miss from my time in Europe, it would definitely be
the festivals. There was this one summer when I went to a wine festival with my mother. To get into
town, we walked through a wide, stone bridge that hovered over a large river. Across the lake where
the river poured into, a brown, centuries old castle stood proudly upon a hill and peered down at the
town. Stalls were set up on either side of the street and people surged through the market talking
animatedly and sharing laughs with their friends, usually with some form of food or drink in hand. A
brass band played close by and people of all ages paired up to dance to the music that resonated
throughout the town. With a bratwurst in hand, my mother and I strolled through town and looked at
the countless shops that lined the street. Even away from the stalls and music, on every street and back
alley, there were people buzzing with life and activity. The atmosphere was cozy, happy, and
welcoming. Even someone like me, who didn t speak the language, fit right in. [how is this

Bilingualism Is A For A Regular Way Between Researchers...
To begin with, bilingualism is a term which is not used in a regular way between researchers and
theoreticians. For example Macnamara (1967; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines
bilinguals as those have at least one of the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) even to a
lower degree in their second language. At the other end of the scale Oestreicher (1974; cited in
Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those who show complete mastery of two
different languages without interference . According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10)
bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages
perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family,
societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines
bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at
home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a
school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another
language for students to learn regular school subjects. Additionally, Appel and Muysken (1987:60)
define bilingual education as the opportunity to be educated in two languages: the language of the
home and the language of other groups in the community. However, for them these two languages do

Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America
For a very long time there s been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there
are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros outweigh
the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other
government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living,
reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a
base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of
living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all
american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per
year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in
daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work
two instead. It s no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for
some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars is most
likely not enough for someone to be able to afford their own apartment, house, ect. Even so, living
with a roommate is preferable over living on the street. Having a roommate is the perfect ... Show

The Effects Of Music On The Music Industry
Before sound recording were possible, music was enjoyed live by watching the performers performing
on their instruments in front of you. When sound recording became possible, the way we enjoy music
was not limited to watching the performers anymore. By looking at the development of sound
reproduction and the devices that are capable of sound playback, we are able to take a look at look on
how the production and consumption of music have been affected over the years in terms of
portability, affordability and how it affects the music industry. Reproduction of sound has come a long
way, dating all the way back to 1855 where French inventor Édouard Léon Scott de Martinville
invented the phonautograph. Even though the phonautograph was not capable of doing a playback of
what was recorded, it set the path for sound recording. (Crane, 2015) However, the credit for the
records and gramophone that we use today goes to American Inventor Emil Berliner. Despite the
innovation, the gramophone did not became commercially popular when it was first invented. It was
only until the end of 1897 that the first commercially manufactured disc record appeared in the United
States and made the gramophone popular as a mean of entertainment. (Read, 1952) Records then
began to be mass produced and distributed for different occasions. Katz (2004) noted: True, mass
reproduced art does lack temporal and physical uniqueness, yet reproductions, no longer bound to the
circumstances of their creation, many

Hot Tin Roof Play
The day my group and I received our assignment, we agreed to portray a play that seems easy to
perform. The play in which my group and I had a strong connection with is Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.
We performed the end of Act 1, Scene 1 for various reasons. The act contained various emotions,
intriguing dialogue, various literary devices and a deep perception of social relationships. The
interactions of Brick and Maggie and Maggie and Brick s nieces and nephews.
The thought process for picking this scene was a challenge. We realized this scene was not evenly
distributed with character s monologue. We began blurting out ideas that would help us decide on
keeping this scene or changing to a new one. My first idea was to switch roles in the middle of the
scene in order for everyone to have an equal part. My group members agreed with this idea, until
another member s thought came up. One of my group members, thought of a different idea ... Show

use. I decided to take off the end of a broomstick and use the stick as a crutch. I came up with the idea
of using the classroom as a prop too. The teacher s desk would be my makeup dresser. As I am
speaking to Brick, I would use the computer screen, as if, I am putting on makeup.
As stated earlier, I chose the end of act 1, scene 1 in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, because it introduced a
deeper concept of emotions and interactions in the play. The beginning of the play was not intriguing

The Government s Political And Economic Tactics
Grande was most definitely a practicing Liberation theologian. However, he did not employ Marxists
concepts, and while he believed in the importance of political action, he focused on transforming the
lives of the poor through Biblical instruction, not political revolution. (Brackley) Grande s sermons
were addressed to three audiences: the wealthy class, the government, and the church. He admonished
the wealthy in their treatment and disdain of the poor. He challenged them to remember their
struggling brothers and provide relief and support when possible. He opposed the government s
political and economic tactics that continued to take advantage of the working class, and disapproved
of the government s actions against clergy members. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So that if Jesus crosses the border at Chalatenango, they will not allow him to enter. They would

with exotic and foreign ideas, anti democratic ideas, and i.e., against the minorities. Ideas against God,
because this is a clan of Cain s. Brothers, they would undoubtedly crucify him again. And they have
said so. (Grande)
The last group to experience Grande s controversial speeches was the church itself. The church in El
Salvador had historically united itself with the wealthy of the country, further alienating and devaluing
the poor (Status Quo 183). Grande fiercely defended the poor and argued against their maltreatment.
He also strongly advocated for social change, which he believed should start with pastoral renewal
(Brackley). All in all, Grande was more concerned with imparting Christian principles, and thus while
his speeches were built on Liberation theology, his emphasis was on the Bible and its inherent ability
to change the situation in El Salvador.
In addition to his fiery sermons, Grande fought social oppression by cultivating and nurturing
Christian base communities, or Comunidades Eclesiales de Base CEB s (Gospel 147). Grande did this
during his evangelical mission work in Aguilares, El Salvador. CEB s developed as priests moved to
poorer communities and towns. While there, they lived and worked alongside those suffering from

The Role Of Internal And External Influences On Students...
While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be
made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to
selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and
external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the
interview sample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the
units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique
known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the
interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student,
or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in
university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal
sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the researcher
to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their hypothesis. Rather
than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic sampling allows for the
research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample (Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424).
Keeping the requirements in mind, the participants in the sample were chosen

Biography and Book Report on Shaul Magid
BACKGROUND OF SHAUL MAGID
Shaul Magid is a professor of religious studies and the Jay and Jeannie Schottenstein Chair of Jewish
Studies in Modern Judaism at Indiana University. In addition, on the site he says that he grew up in a
secular Jewish household in New York and then become serious about religion at the age of 20 in
which he dove deeply into the world of Hasidism. He says that he is fascinated by the complex nexus
of Judaism and American counterculture of his youth and writes about the topic as a scholar rather
then an observer. In the introduction he states that, proximity does not by definition produce bias.
Investment does not necessarily yield apologetics. The best critic, perhaps, is one who is open... about
what is at stake, collectively and personally, in his or her scholarly projects (confirm that!!)
INTRODUCTION:
Magid s brilliant introduction really sets the tone for the rest of his book. American Jews or Jewish
Americans? American Judaism or Judaism in America? One is; the other describes. It is without
question that America has offered Jews the most loving society in the Jewish Diaspora, but at the same
time it is also proving to be problematic. Jews are in a current state of transition in that they have to

Bill Of Rights Of The Individual Citizen
Adrianne Jauregui Homework Assig. #1 12/01/2014 Bill of Rights The protection and civil rights for
the individual citizen is documented as the Bill of Rights. Today, the two most important of are The
English Bill of Rights of 1689 and The United States Bill of Rights of 1791. These two have the many
of the same overlapping principles including, limiting the powers of the government and to providing
people with individual liberties. Although they are both fundamental documents, both countries
differed in form and purpose. The U.S enacted a formal statement of Fundamental rights of the people
of the United States and integrated it into the Constitution as Amendments. It is used to address the
liberties of individual citizens and keep the government from exceeding their boundaries for potential
abuse. In contrast, the English Bill was enacted by the English Parliament, which was a reinstatement
in statutory form of The Declaration of Right. It was to confront issues of relation to the king rather
than parliamentary authority. Essentially, these two formed a new democratic government that
changed everything. In detail, The United States established a collective name for the ten amendments
to the Constitution, the Bill of rights. However, the English adopted an act unlike the U.S. and most
countries that have a constitution. England has no codified constitution meaningm a single document
with key provisions. They have some written documents developed from case law,

occurs within an organization, new rules, leadership styles, and communication needs to be adopted in
order to cope with the change. This paper will explain the concepts of organizational change and
leadership processes by applying it to my own personal experience of being a member and president
of UC Santa Barbara s Khmer Student Association, a student run cultural club.
The Khmer Student Association, or KSA, is a Southeast Asian focused cultural organization that
focuses on spreading awareness of Cambodian culture on campus through weekly meetings discussing
current events and history related to Cambodia and social events that include game and movie nights,
retreats, and potlucks for members to feel more comfortable. After joining KSA during my first year

Essay on America and the Great Depression
America and the Great Depression
1. Compare the ideas behind the protest movements of Huey Long and Upton Sinclair.
The Era of the Great Depression was one of both desperation and hope. Americans were desperate for
a change, desperate for anything to come along that may improve their situation, yet hopeful that the
light at the end of the tunnel was near. For many of those living in poverty during the 1930s, the

alternatives to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long s program became quite popular nationally, at one point the Share Our Wealth Society claimed

presidency. The threat Long presented to the Democrat s reign in congress was legitimate. At one
time, President Roosevelt named Long one of the two most dangerous men in America . (Biles 123)
Though his assassination in 1935 removed the threat of his possible candidacy, the strong support and
influence of his followers caused the Roosevelt administration to move slightly more to the left.
Upton Sinclair, a former socialist and founder of the EPIC plan, registered with the Democratic party
in 1933 so he could run as a major party candidate in the 1934 California election for governor.
(Polenberg 120) Though he lost the election, EPIC supporters succeeded in gaining 30 seats in
California legislature, which ultimately pushed the state governor to endorse New Deal programs.
(Biles 120) Sinclair, well known for a number of books he wrote (which often attacked the evils of a
capitalistic society ), based his EPIC plan on the idea of creating an economy based on use rather than
on profit. (Polenberg 120)
EPIC called for the seizure of idle land in California and its transformation into a network of
cooperatives to be run and managed by those without jobs. These colonies would be given land to
cultivate, as well as factories and production plants to work

  • 2. The Importance Of Ethical Codes In Counselling Second argument, let s look back at the ethical codes, section A.6.B ( Extending Counseling Boundaries) states that Counselors consider the risks and benefits of extending current counseling relationships beyond conventional parameters. In extending these boundaries, counselors take appropriate professional precautions such as informed consent, consultation, supervision, and documentation to ensure that judgment is not impaired and no harm occurs. (ACA, 2014). As this code states, if a therapist takes appropriate steps by documenting everything and discussing events in supervision, which we are doing now, we should be safe within the ethical code lines. The Most important point to remember, as long as the client is not hurt during the dual relationship process, we are maintaining our promise of being ethically professional helpers. The third argument is that these codes that we abide by in both counseling and art therapy are not the law. They are merely attempted guidelines for therapists to remind them to not mentally or physically harm their clients. Most of the codes are vague and contradict themselves, for instance for section 1.4 of the American Art therapy Association codes states that Art therapists refrain from entering into multiple relationships with clients if the multiple relationships could reasonably be expected to impair competence or effectiveness of the art therapist to perform his or her functions as an art therapist, or otherwise risks exploitation or ... The field of Graphic design, which is responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic designers are required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books, magazines, posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays. Visual arts on the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and photography and architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic design is that many people do not think of graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers. Visual Arts People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors are artist because it takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create complex graphics. They have to come up with a design by sketching it out. Then graphic designers have to bring their art to life using the computer. Both visual artist and graphic designers have a passion for art. They are both creative professions to pursue. Some people argue that Visual Art people are more hands on with their work; they use a lot of physical ability to do their art. Graphic designers use technology to do more of their art. By voluntary means, we produce, trade, buy and sell our products that would benefit us in various ways. Economic power allows people to exploit their resources in a free market. It has the ability to help others successfully reach prosperity. Some philosophers claim economic power has a huge impact on art, whereas other philosophers express a different opinion. Davis and Freeland believes economic power influences art, but Todd disagrees. 9.5 Theses on Art and Class introduces a list of theories on art world and class structure. The ruling class is identified as a capitalist who has complete control over the realm of visual arts. These superior individuals would mostly come from large corporations, including auction houses and corporate collectors; art investors, private collectors, and patrons; and trustees and administrators of large cultural institutions and universities (Davis 2). Additionally, the ruling class is also capable of [subjugating], within the sphere of the arts, [and] other possible values of art (Davis 2). They view art as a luxury good that strengthens their social status. In the art world, the ruling class is at an advantageous position because they have the most power in all aspects. According to Davis he writes, [with] craftsmanship or intellectual prestige [it] indicates [your] social status (Davis 2). The more products you own, the greater your social status. The ruling class develop very little interest in the art world and their only motive is to gather more power. Davis claims the working class [and middle class] is controlled from above (Davis 4) for work. • 5. The Replacement Of Wires Of A Prototype Body Area Network... Abstract This paper evaluates the replacement of wires in a prototype body area network of wireless sensors. Sensor nodes which act as slave nodes are used to sense vital human parameters such as Electro Cardio Graphic (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation SpO2, heart rate, and body temperature [1]. Keeping the normal human body parameters as median values against the variations in the Lower and Higher levels towards the maximum abnormal conditions are tabulated for further analysis. A stochastic model has been developed with threshold human values against the variation of parameters in both directions. An algorithm is developed to identify the abnormalities in the human values which leads to disease diagnosis. The identified values are converted into the relevant binary format, and this binary format of human values sent to the hospital server for doctoral assessment through General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), by using of Microcontroler Unit or Master Node. In the identification process, If the master node identifies any one above mentioned human parameter values have been exceeded the threshold value, then it sends the alert message to the human care person through Short Message Service (SMS), all communication encrypted with Festiel Cipher Structure. • 6. Weaknesses Of Ir, It Is Not The Silver Bullet That Will... Weaknesses of IR Although there are a lot of strengths for IR, it is not the silver bullet that will completely change accounting forever. One of the main weaknesses of IR is the expenses that come with measuring such a comprehensive range of factors that include non monetary factors that can be hard to actually measure (Eccles Krzus, 2010). It can be unappealing for smaller companies or organisations to set up all of these systems in order to provide a wider perspective of their business or organisation just to please stakeholders, when the costs will outweigh the potential profits of attracting new investors. Another issue would be potential information overload for less knowledgeable individuals who will simply be overwhelmed by all the information provided by IR. There is a question of how important is it to report more comprehensively if the end user will simply be unable to use all of the information to their advantage, which raises another question of if it is worth reporting in an IR format at all. Time is also a major issue for some companies who may have less labour to spare in order to report on what can be considered less important aspects of an organisation, especially if it is a small to medium sized enterprise. There have been reports of some integrated reports being three times as longer than estimated to be completed (Eccles Saltzman, 2011). King Arthur Isolationist While it is true that some of the Arthurian Narratives show a violent process of cultural and geopolitical circulation, I believe claiming the whole of the Arthurian legend to be this way is problematic. The same can be said for the claim that Arthur is both expansionist and isolationist. These traits typically depend on the time period and the origin of the author. For example, Geoffrey of Monmouth shows a violent process of cultural and geopolitical circulation while also being isolationist in his Latin Historia Regum Britannie. After Arthur is crowned, he has to give a gift to all his men, but he has nothing to give, so Arthur, accordingly, in whom courage was combined with generosity, decided to harry the Saxons, so he could bestow their wealth on the retainers who served him. ... Here he is implying that they should be similar to the Britain s because King Arthur was obviously a very great lord. Because of this, I would argue that this story does not show a sense of cultural isolation. der Stricker wants his lords to act similarly to King Arthur. The Ethics Of Animal Testing By Robin Mckie The ethics of animal tests: inside the lab where marmosets are given Parkinson s by Robin McKie examines the situation of marmosets who are subjected to testing and experiments. McKie uses several literary techniques such as statistics, case studies and emotive language in his article to not only communicate the cruel and unjustifiable nature of animal testing, but also the necessity we humans have for it; while experimenting on animals can be considered immoral, it s still a much better alternative than using humans. The reader assumes from what McKie wrote about animal testing that the researchers must be callous individuals who are indifferent to animal suffering, but in truth they have an innate love of animals. McKie provides evidence of this by describing how they end up knitting hammocks for the animals and having favourites. He mentions an interview with a King s College technician which supports his evidence. A different employee also claimed that researching on marmosets had allowed them to develop medicines which have allowed patients to run their lives normally. Prior to King s College s experiments on marmosets, Parkinson s patients were a mass of uncontrollable movement, jerking and waving their hands and arms. McKie convinces the reader of why, while animal testing can be seen as unethical and wrong, it still is very important in the medical field. I feel that the life of a human has greater value than that of an animal, and that in this case the means justifies the end. By sacrificing hundreds of animals for experiments we end up saving thousands of humans. Throughout his article, McKie uses a great variety of phrases and techniques to strikingly portray the reality of animal testing and the lesser known activities which happen behind the scenes. He powerfully communicates both the negative and positive features of using animals in experiments without definitively taking a side, thus he lets us form our own opinions on the morality of animal testing. The most common mental disorders that are prevalent in numerous countries are depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The dietary pattern of the general population in many countries reflect that they are often deficient in many nutrients, especially essential vitamins, minerals, and omega 3 fatty acids. Depression is a disorder associated with major symptoms such as increased sadness and anxiety, loss of appetite, depressed mood, and a loss of interest in pleasurable activities. The greeks once described depression as chronic melancholy. The term depression was derived from the Latin verb deprimere, to press down . From the 14th century, to depress meant to bring down in spirits. It was used as early as 1665 to refer to someone having a great depression of spirit . Since Aristotle, melancholia had been associated with men of learning and intellectual brilliance, a hazard of contemplation and creativity. The newer concept abandoned these associations. The manifest content of a dream is the actual content of the dream, what actually happened during the dream. In contrast, the latent content of the dream is the symbolic meaning of the content of the dream. In order for a counsellor to get to the latent content, the client discusses the dream s manifest content and is encouraged to free associate about the dream. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument. Also, the statistics presented by Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989) (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). A website is a marketing tool that gives a face to not only the product in which one is selling, but the organization itself. The common theme to a great website, I have noticed, is simplicity. A simple website is easy to navigate and has clear product descriptions, which is an important facet for keeping the attention span of their targeted consumers. For this analysis, I will critique the websites of TOMS Shoes and Apple Inc.; both very successful organizations that have seemed to master this art of simplicity for selling their products. Let s take a look. Body TOMs Shoes, one of the most notable shoe retailers in the entire world, has a purpose behind the selling of their phenomenal products; and it is quiet different than that of its competition. Shoes for a better tomorrow is their mission statement, which is on the front page of their website, Toms.com. Every time they sell a pair of shoes, a pair is given to a child in poverty whom is in need of shoes. I chose to critique this organization s website solely because of this great mission they serve, and the means by which they go about doing so. This organization was founded in 2006, and has seen constant improvement ever since then. With much help from their website and great marketing campaigns, the company has recently expanded to selling eyewear; with part of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Jazz Culture The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between jazz music and American culture. In order to understand how it is related to American society, it s important to understand the origins of Jazz. With its many different subgenres, it is difficult to define exactly what Jazz is. This paper will be exploring the origins of Jazz, its development over time, and its role in civil rights movement and black community. The Origins of Jazz: Considered by many to be the only original American art form, Jazz is a style of music developed in the late 19th and early 20th century in New Orleans. Combining ragtime and blues, early Jazz artists like Louis Armstrong became the forerunners of what would become known as Jazz. Jazz has some characteristics ... Some of the earliest places to integrate were Jazz clubs, however, it wasn t until people like Norman Granz a white impresario began to actively fight the hypocrisy of venues hosting black bands but not serving black patrons that real integration of venues began. Like all music, Jazz is a form of expression. All Jazz musicians have played the same standards along with their own music, yet, each version is so different from another. The freedom of expression in Jazz, and the culture of the Jazz community gave African Americans a chance to make it into the spotlight. Calling attention to social issues, responding to events, organizing community events, and most of all, uniting people of all colors in a way that no other art form quite could. Some people believe that the adaptation of Jazz by white corrupted the genre, however, when the effects of the mixing whites and blacks in Jazz are looked at in context of the civil rights movement and the fight for equality, it becomes clear that Jazz was just as instrumental to the success of the movement as speeches and protests were. Jazz has a special place in American identity. If I had to name one thing I miss from my time in Europe, it would definitely be the festivals. There was this one summer when I went to a wine festival with my mother. To get into town, we walked through a wide, stone bridge that hovered over a large river. Across the lake where the river poured into, a brown, centuries old castle stood proudly upon a hill and peered down at the town. Stalls were set up on either side of the street and people surged through the market talking animatedly and sharing laughs with their friends, usually with some form of food or drink in hand. A brass band played close by and people of all ages paired up to dance to the music that resonated throughout the town. With a bratwurst in hand, my mother and I strolled through town and looked at the countless shops that lined the street. • 30. Bilingualism Is A For A Regular Way Between Researchers... To begin with, bilingualism is a term which is not used in a regular way between researchers and theoreticians. For example Macnamara (1967; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those have at least one of the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) even to a lower degree in their second language. At the other end of the scale Oestreicher (1974; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those who show complete mastery of two different languages without interference . According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10) bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family, societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another language for students to learn regular school subjects. Additionally, Appel and Muysken (1987:60) define bilingual education as the opportunity to be educated in two languages: the language of the home and the language of other groups in the community. • 31. Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America For a very long time there s been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living, reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work two instead. It s no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. • 33. The Effects Of Music On The Music Industry Before sound recording were possible, music was enjoyed live by watching the performers performing on their instruments in front of you. When sound recording became possible, the way we enjoy music was not limited to watching the performers anymore. By looking at the development of sound reproduction and the devices that are capable of sound playback, we are able to take a look at look on how the production and consumption of music have been affected over the years in terms of portability, affordability and how it affects the music industry. Reproduction of sound has come a long way, dating all the way back to 1855 where French inventor Édouard Léon Scott de Martinville invented the phonautograph. Even though the phonautograph was not capable of doing a playback of what was recorded, it set the path for sound recording. (Crane, 2015) However, the credit for the records and gramophone that we use today goes to American Inventor Emil Berliner. Despite the innovation, the gramophone did not became commercially popular when it was first invented. It was only until the end of 1897 that the first commercially manufactured disc record appeared in the United States and made the gramophone popular as a mean of entertainment. (Read, 1952) Records then began to be mass produced and distributed for different occasions. Grande fiercely defended the poor and argued against their maltreatment. He also strongly advocated for social change, which he believed should start with pastoral renewal (Brackley). All in all, Grande was more concerned with imparting Christian principles, and thus while his speeches were built on Liberation theology, his emphasis was on the Bible and its inherent ability to change the situation in El Salvador. In addition to his fiery sermons, Grande fought social oppression by cultivating and nurturing Christian base communities, or Comunidades Eclesiales de Base CEB s (Gospel 147). While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the interview sample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student, or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the researcher to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their hypothesis. Rather than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic sampling allows for the research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample (Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424). Bill Of Rights Of The Individual Citizen Adrianne Jauregui Homework Assig. #1 12/01/2014 Bill of Rights The protection and civil rights for the individual citizen is documented as the Bill of Rights. Today, the two most important of are The English Bill of Rights of 1689 and The United States Bill of Rights of 1791. These two have the many of the same overlapping principles including, limiting the powers of the government and to providing people with individual liberties. Although they are both fundamental documents, both countries differed in form and purpose. The U.S enacted a formal statement of Fundamental rights of the people of the United States and integrated it into the Constitution as Amendments. It is used to address the liberties of individual citizens and keep the government from exceeding their boundaries for potential abuse. In contrast, the English Bill was enacted by the English Parliament, which was a reinstatement in statutory form of The Declaration of Right. It was to confront issues of relation to the king rather than parliamentary authority. Essentially, these two formed a new democratic government that changed everything. In detail, The United States established a collective name for the ten amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of rights. The Era of the Great Depression was one of both desperation and hope. Americans were desperate for a change, desperate for anything to come along that may improve their situation, yet hopeful that the light at the end of the tunnel was near. For many of those living in poverty during the 1930s, the radical leftist movements seen throughout the country appeared to be alternatives to the sometimes ineffective programs of FDR s New Deal. At one time, President Roosevelt named Long one of the two most dangerous men in America . (Biles 123) Though his assassination in 1935 removed the threat of his possible candidacy, the strong support and influence of his followers caused the Roosevelt administration to move slightly more to the left. Upton Sinclair, a former socialist and founder of the EPIC plan, registered with the Democratic party in 1933 so he could run as a major party candidate in the 1934 California election for governor.
