There is an art to giving and receiving feedback. To get better, feedback is necessary – but it also can backfire if handled poorly. This session is for managers and non-managers and addresses the art of feedback and working with subordinates or peers/team members.

My music video challenged conventions in some ways but also used and developed conventions commonly seen in other music videos. It included a narrative story of a couple on a date alongside footage of the artist singing, and was shot in two locations, a bowling alley and recording studio, rather than just one. The editing included slow motion and title cards at the beginning. My digipak and magazine advertisement used standard design elements like prominent images and text but developed the idea of dripping paint graphics to clearly relate the two ancillary texts.

I have received useful audience feedback on my creative works that will help me improve. The feedback identified areas like adding non-diegetic music in quiet scenes to keep the audience engaged, using more shots to build pace in my trailer, addressing issues with low lighting in night scenes, and making the end title design more creative. Overall, the feedback helped me recognize changes I could make to strengthen my works even though I was already happy with aspects like the color scheme and main image choice in my magazine cover and film poster. Going forward, this feedback will help me enhance my skills and creative products.

- 1. What have I learnt from audience feedback?
- 2. First Feedback • When receiving our audience feed back for our draft music video there where a lot of negatives as we had tried to include to many conventions in to our music video which affected the narrative and caused confusions such as originally having two artists also the lip sync was way out of sink at some points because artist wasn’t saying the correct words so re-filming needed to be done for these parts . However they agreed with the costume that our artist was wearing as they felt that it had a correspondence with the title of the music video and kept the continuity between the the music video and the digipack/ancillary tasks.Th feed back for my digi pack was that there was pictures streached and that the front cover needed to be change because the background image wasn’t taken by me.

Original front cover The original idea was to have artist appear as if he was standing on top of the earth to show he is literally on top of the world as the Album is called The Ascent however its not possible for me to take a picture of the earth so had o rethink that idea and see how I could recreate something with a similar concept.
- 4. New front cover This is the result of my album cover after audience feedback. In the process of taking this photo I took advantage of my free travel to find locations that would be good to show an ascendance I settled on the queen Elizabeth park in Stratford where I found these large wooden steps that I thought could be used to show a climb or going up also the background displays the part of the sky and objects that are high up. This happened because of the audience feedback and the advice I took on board from it.
- 5. Changes made as a result of feedback • The class also like the idea of me having an photo-shoot for my artist by using various pictures that I had taken previously so I picke the best ones did minor Photoshop on them and put them onto my blog as I think that it’s the kind of thing that a rising artist would have. We also fixed the lip syncing problem as best as we could and re-filmed bad footage that we had such as being able to see the camera in the screen of a phone that was recoded.
