The document discusses research done for a film opening sequence. It was inspired by titles from The Walking Dead and Zombie Land. Research also looked at other post-apocalyptic films for camera movements, music choices, props, and locations. Key influences included panning shots from The Walking Dead and subtle music from films like The Road and Children of Men.

2. Our film was linked to a few features shown in other film openings and
title sequences such as The Walking Dead and Zombie Land. This is
because due to it linking to an apocalyptic film, The Walking Dead’s titles
looked decayed and helped make the look of the titles like they have been
there for a while.
Other titles included production companies and this was to show that we
followed the other conventions of titling in films where they include titles
such as actors, music, directions, editors and production/distribution
companies.
We also included music by, actors and also edited by titles to follow the
conventions too.

Titling (colours, fonts and
timings)
4. There are a lot of Post-Apocalyptic genre movies and openings throughout
the research period which helped us gain information about what kind of
things we could include during our opening and to also help us get views
on what other typed of edits we could use too.
Some films that we looked at;
The Walking Dead
ZombieLand
The Road

5. Camera movements were one of the key parts during the filming process and with
this, we ensured that we had certain panning shots for some of the shots to show the
entire environment and also scenery that was in the area and that we were aiming to
shoot for that certain shot.
We looked at The Walking Dead’s opening sequence to see what shots they had
during the opening and it was panning across but at different locations to show some
of the locations of the film but to also show what had happened during the situation
that was within the film itself.
A lot of the shots during the opening were all the same angles, movements and also
zooms which kept it consistent and also helped us see a lot of what had happened as
a whole during the apocalypse.
Camera Movements (tracking &
panning shots)
6.
We had seen a lot of different things to include for the shots and with
this, we chose to have the kind of shots used during The Walking
Dead’s opening sequence and having the same consistent shots
throughout to help us with it not looking too different during the
opening titles. We also ensured that when shooting the shots, we had
the same angles on each too which helped it all fit together and not
look different.
The only thing that was different is the direction of the panning on
some of the shots with some going left, some going right and others
going in other directions such as up to the sky to transition into the
next shot and so on.

7. We did a few Music researches for the soundtrack type that we wanted for our film
opening. For this, we looked at different films such as The Road and other
apocalyptic movies to see what we could use and what they used to make it fit with
the film opening itself or film overall.
Some of the main TV series and Films that we looked at were;
The Walking Dead
The Road
Children of Men
All of these helped with the research of the music and showed us that the main things
used for the music of these films were low and subtle music that included pianos or
violins. This got us to the conclusion of using the music that we did as it fit with the
shots used and also the theme of the film.

Music (Soundtracks or Sound
effects)
8. There wasn't a lot of research done for the props side of things and only small
amounts which included looing at the same films that we had before and seeing
what they had included within their films and then going from that to see what
we could use too.
One thing that we did use that wasn’t seen in any of the films that we looked at
was a poster or multiple posters which were made to look old. I did this by
designing some posters about the outbreak myself on Photoshop and then
covering them in coffee and letting them soak and then dry. This was because it
allowed them to become a murky colour and helped the old look appear.
The locations were an easy thing to research with most of the movies that we
researched being in forests, cities, houses and fields. These are all accessible and
were really fitting for what we were looking for during the filming and for the
opening itself.
Props, Locations and Scenery
10.
For the Mise en scene we didn’t really change the setting in which we were
filming at, nor did we add anything to the scenes or locations to change them
either. The only think we did is added posters to a wall to make them stay there
and show that they were pinned up by someone to analyse.
The settings and locations which we used weren’t changed in any way as we
wanted them to be as original as possible to prevent them being out of place or
not relating to the theme of the film or opening.
