Consumer society
Explore the claim that a consumer society is always a throw away society.
In this essay I will be outlining consumerism and claims that a consumer society is always a throw
away society. Consumption plays a big part in our lives and causes us to live in divided societies. It
may make us feel like we fit in buying new gadgets and clothes and also give us that sense of
belonging but we don t take into account what happens to the old items and packaging. People do not
want to look at the problems caused. I will use this essay with the evidence I have read ... Show more

We often question how our food and clothes can be sold so cheap, this all comes down to where it is
made or grown. Our clothes are made overseas in factories by women and in some cases even children
in unsuitable conditions. They work long hours and don t get paid much in return, it is said to be less
than what they can afford to live on and made to work extra hours. This is why large stores like
Primark and Asda can sell their clothes at such little cost. Some of the workers are said to be working
60 to 90 hours every week for as little as £17 per month. (Making social lives pg.88) The workers in
the factories are grateful for their small wage and would struggle if the factories were to close and
business was took elsewhere.
The growth of consumption has caused a large increase in rubbish. This is due to people having more
choice when out shopping. Many years ago women stayed at home and men went to work but now
that both men and women are out earning there is a lot more disposable income which ends with
people buying luxuries and upgrading items they already have. This results in the old ones being
thrown away. People are constantly upgrading and renewing items to better models. Mobile phones
bring out new models every year which people feel the need to buy to keep up with the trend and
because they want the newest gadgets on the street. Pcs have changed to laptops which gives the pc no
home except out to be collected on bin day. This causes a problem

Lydia Martin Research Paper
If I were to be someone else, or to be like someone else, I would choose to be Lydia Martin. Lydia
Martin is one of the main female characters on a popular TV show, Teen Wolf. She is one of the few
females in the show, and has to deal with ignorant boys a lot of the time. For this reason, I deeply
relate to her, as most of my life is spent dealing with ignorant boys who I choose to spend my time
with for whatever reason. She is a very strong character, with a very dominant presence in many
people s lives. It is that among many other reasons that I would wish to be like her, if I could. Lydia s
physical being is absolutely gorgeous. She is rather petite, coming to shoulder height on most of the
guys she hangs out with. She has strawberry blonde hair that comes down to her mid back, and hazel
green eyes that change color when inside or outside. She has a broad smile and a look to her face that
makes you know she isn t messing around. As for her personality, she s very diverse. She is extremely
intelligent, scarily so at times, and uses it to her advantage every chance she gets. On top of being
intelligent, she is an extremely strong person. She goes through tremendous amounts of trauma on an
almost daily basis, and still makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about herself is entirely more confident than I feel about myself. I am not a very self confident person,
even though I try to carry myself as such. Lydia, however, is extremely confident in herself and the
way she carries herself. She dresses to her full potential and she always makes herself look presentable
in a way that allows no one to mock her for her

Public Health Course Analysis
I signed up to take this course because of my curiosity surrounding public health: what it is, what
professions one can hold in it, and what its role is in society. Upon taking this course, my
understanding of public health has expanded greatly and I am now able to answer my previous
questions about the field. In class, we defined public health as both a science and an art, and I learned
that this is true; public health involves scientists studying epidemiology and the incidences of disease
as well as professionals who promote health in the environment and public sector. First, the area in
which my understanding of public health expanded the most involved the different professions one
can hold in public health. We learned that there are five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I plan on entering the workforce of nonprofit management in the future, with possible concentrations
of either arts management or professional and grant writing. The main public health concept that I feel
ties to this career path would be social justice because if I am working in a field that serves
disadvantaged communities, social justice must be important to me personally. If social justice were
not on the top of my list of priorities, I could not effectively carry out the duties of my job. One quote
I wrote down prominently in my notes is the dream of public health is the dream of social justice. To
me, this means making certain that every person has access to the advantages of public health
measures will lead to a healthy and balanced society. In this class, I found that essentially everything
in society leads back to public health and it is a field that communities must uphold in order to provide

The Globalization Of The Economy
The globalization of the economy encourages organizations to achieve greater market coverage, which
allows companies to define or redefine its strategic posture. Thus, there have been so intense
outsourcing processes that enable organizations to address the new challenges and therefore,
organizations must develop skills and abilities that enable them to cope with the demands from the
environment.
Knowledge and analysis of the internal part of the organization and his environment arise the strategic
lines that must be converted into actions to develop advantages and create greater value to what they
do. A strategic outsourcing option is a long term process, where the commitment of contractors should
encourage financing training and technical assistance to subcontractors for this to have greater chance
of success.
Over the past 3 decades, China has experienced unprecedented growth, both because of its speed and
its scope. It has established itself as the world s factory and supply base favorite for companies that
want to reduce costs. The country offers competitive products and services to a wide variety of
sectors, thanks to its numerous facilities and specialized industrial clusters, to its abundant skilled
labor at low cost and to important incentives of the Government.
But producing on another continent and Chinese suppliers, it remains complex. Gradually, costs of the

Theme Of Marriage In Canterbury Tales
Spousal Scammers
Over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce in the United States, a number which has only been rising
throughout the past years. Marriages end in cheating and separation frequently, so much that the
United States has become accustomed to it, but does it have to be this way? Canterbury Tales is a
collection of tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer that were told by traveling pilgrims on their way to
Canterbury. The tales are told by people of varying occupations and social status, and focus on
different morals, one of the most prevalent being the roles of husbands and wives in marriage. By
juxtaposing marriages of infidelity with those of loyalty, Chaucer satirizes the 14th century ideals of
marriage by showing that relationships based on control drive women to cheat, while relationships
built on love and mutual trust ultimately flourish.
In The Merchant s Tale , a very controlling husband loses his wife to a young man who easily wins her
over, a common theme throughout the Canterbury Tales that Chaucer uses to warn readers about
unhealthy relationships. Chaucer frequently refers to wives throughout these tales as property, saying
To take a wife is an excellent thing, / especially when a man is old and grey; / Then she s the best part
of his property (314). January from The Merchant s Tale takes a wife On whom he may beget a son
and heir for exactly that reason only (314). He has rapacity for his land and money and wants it to go
to a son. When he

Harley Davidson And The Motorcycle Industry
History:
Foundation:
It all started in Milwaukee, Winsconsin in 1903 when William Harley, Walter and Arthur Davidson
created their first Harley Davidson in their family building. Harley Davidson and the motorcycle
industry wasn t a big company until after the Second World War. Many people rode motorcycles
during the war, with Harley Davidson themselves becoming the major supplier not only for the U.S.
military but other allied forces as well during this time. Many veterans chose to purchase motorcycles
upon returning home, as they enjoyed riding during the war and wanted to continue riding in their
civilian life. This generation quickly became the main target audience for many of Harley Davidson s
marketing efforts and main target for buyers as by 1956, Indian Motorcycles declared bankruptcy and
stopped producing motorcycles altogether, leaving only Harley as a major producer and seller of
motorcycles.
Harley Davidson Today and the challenges:
The motorcycle industry offers products which can be viewed as luxuries or wants as opposed to
necessities. Harley Davidson owns Buell motorcycle and Harley Davidson financial services. Harley
Davidson now holds 55 percent of the entire U.S. motorcycle market, and an even higher share in the
U.S. heavy motorcycle market. This is the result of increasing investment in R D. Harley Davidson
now has over 6,000 employees. Harley Davidson has benefited from a segment of the U.S. market
which enjoys recreational riding. This isn t

Pros And Cons Of Inequality
You can tell there is inequality in this world just simply based on the word mankind . I am sure almost
everyone in the world has been impacted by some sort of inequality/ abuse of power in the world.
Inequality can occur when a population of any kind does not maintain a common status, or could also
be a difference in power between individuals. Inequality can take place anywhere at any time, and has
been a major problem in the world today. Some people may not care about this, some people really
express their feelings on this subject, but some people just simply don t know much about the subject.
Inequality can happen anywhere from your own home to globally all over the world. Back in my
hometown, Medford Massachusetts, I work at a local popular sub shop. This sub shop has people
coming from all neighboring towns just dying to try one of our famous subs. I work here as a chef
with a small crew of around 6 total workers who are all very close to each other. I have been working
here for a while, and I have seen workers come and go, but the one thing I realized is that I ve never
seen/heard of a girl working here before. I figured I would bring this topic across to my boss, Joe. My
boss was sort of looked at as a local hero. He was always quick to crack a joke with his workers, and
even his customers. He was overall a hilarious, hardworking man who was great to talk to. He
invented the famous sub called the bboy back in 1976, which is ham, sausage, bacon, 2 eggs, cheese,

If you do use dirty or contaminated disinfectant, you will have to start the entire process over with
new disinfectant. If the solution is okay, you will then completely immerse the cleaned implements in
an appropriate disinfection container holding the EPA registered disinfectant for the required time.
This will be at least ten minutes or the time stated in the manufacturer s instructions. It s always best
to set a timer than it is to guess. Remember to open all hinged implements before immersing them in
the disinfectant. After the required disinfection time has passed, remove all tools and implements from
the disinfection solution with tongs or gloved hands. Rinse the tools and implements well in warm

Music Censorship Is Not Possible Without The Color Red And...
This statement is very impactful in how he uses the example of painting the American flag, it s not
possible without the color red and for artists to not be able to write songs using their past experiences
that isn t quite possible either. Another limitation of music censorship is that lyrics are poetry and are
filled with double meanings so what may be obscene to one person may be perfectly acceptable to
another. John Denver testified at the 1985 hearing of the PMRC stating that his song Rocky Mountain
High , which had previously been banned on many radio stations thinking it was about drugs, was
actually about the beauty of the nature and the mountains in Colorado (Rabkin). Another example of
lyrics with double meanings is the song ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten to thirty percent of the students gave the correct interpretations of the songs while twenty to sixty
percent gave incorrect or vague responses. The remainder of students refused to answer (Nuzum 64).
The difference in interpretations between adults and teens can be shown through this study and there is
a reason for the difference. Interpretations can be caused by the fact that one s understanding is limited
to their knowledge on the topic. Greenfield conducted a study on four different age groups: fourth,
eighth, and twelfth graders and college students. Two songs, Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
and Like a Virgin by Madonna, were played for the participants. Following each song they were asked
to fill out a questionnaire. The questions asked about their comprehension of both specific words in
the lyrics and about the overall meaning. The results for the understanding of Bruce Springsteen s
song was low. After hearing the song entirely and seeing certain excerpts on the questionnaire sixty
percent of the overall sample couldn t answer the questions regarding song content. Contrary to the
title and refrain, the song is about the loss of hope and resentment. The percentage of participants who
understood the song s actual themes were very low. Not one of the fourth graders could recognize the
real theme, while only thirty percent of eighth graders, forty percent of twelfth

Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino
GRAN TORINO
Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist
tormented character to a compassionate father figure.
Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as
the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean
War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand,
dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his
neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes
a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted
theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself
and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the
theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he
confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten.
The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from
having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from
the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his
own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s
young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted
theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is
evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is
partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as
he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise
from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and
spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the

Facial Stereotypes
There are mathematical equations, such as the golden ratio, which can be used to supposedly create
the ideal human body. This proportion was used by Da Vinci to draw the perfect male body. An
individual is said to have a beautiful face when it has a ratio of 1.6180339, or approximately 1.62.
Facial symmetry can be measured by dividing the length of a face by the width of the widest part of
the face; the closer quotient is 1.62 the more beautiful a face is according to the golden ratio. The
golden ratio can also be used on various other parts of the body including; arm length, and height.
Facial characteristics also play a role in determining an individual s attractiveness. The color

What Was The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas
beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any independent
state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition
toward the United States . The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at a time when nearly all
Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining
independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th century, Monroe s
declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United States and one of its
longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and several U.S. presidents,
including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt
gave much thought while in office to the consideration of the Monroe Doctrine of 1823. He added the
Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, asserting that the U.S might intervene in the

How General Motors ( Gm ) New Leadership Help Bring The...
INTRODUCTION
The following research paper is about how General Motors (GM) new leadership help bring the
company out of bankruptcy and into profitability. This paper will explore the different styles of
leadership of the various CEOs and Executives that contributed to the restructuring of the organization
and brining GM back to profitability. Can different leadership styles affect a organizations revenue?
BACKGROUND/ RESEARCH
In 2009, GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was actively seeking financial assistance from the
federal government. The following year it returned with a $4.7B profit and underwent changes in its
corporate governance. The first step was to replace the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the
time, Rick Wagoner, as part of the bailout deal (King Stoll, 2009). Wagoner was criticized for his
stubbornness to be adaptable in the automotive industry where the market constantly shifts from cars
to trucks. This meant that he was relaxed and did not challenge the changing market, but instead when
along with the market and continued to play along. He was also ridiculed for not pushing his
employees to come up new ideas to challenge the market. Because of this Wagoner allowed GM to fall
into complacency, and eventually leading to the organizations bankruptcy (Baldoni, 2009). Wagoner s
unwillingness to connect with his employees and unwillingness to challenge the market lead to the
bankruptcy of GM, also his lack of experience in the automotive industry or

Active Hope By Joan Macy Quotes
Active Hope, written by Joan Macy, is an interesting read that discusses many topics regarding social
and environmental change in the modern world. Joan Macy employs many ideas to engage the reader
into her point of view and outlines the book in a very different way that distinguishes it from other
books.
(Quote 1) To begin with Reflecting on Success on page 226; this part of the book inspired me. Her
quote If the change we want doesn t happen in our lifetime, does that mean we will never experience
success? For the encouraging boost we get when we know we re moving forward, we need to find
markers of progress we can spot more easily and often. Not only is this quote important but it can be
relevant to many things we live through and foresee daily. For example, if one is trying to achieve a
certain fitness goal, it is not the brightest outlook to just select a very far fetched goal and not track
small points of progress beforehand. In fact, if one was to do such a thing, it would be rather
challenging since frustration and injury would occur before one could even see any results since the
results are not being analyzed closely enough. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personally, if I was to complete a task at hand, it is best to try to tackle the task through breaking it

this relativity. I think if we can apply this to the issues and problems within the world of
environmentalism, then hope and change as Macy believes will occur, however, on a relatively

Bear Mccreary Monologue
Hey, everyone! Just got back from watching The Walking Dead s Season 7 Episode 2 and I have to
say, it has a good feel to it. But before that, let s start at the beginning. So for those who haven t seen
the newest and latest episode of TWD, beware as this contains spoilers. Really. Anyway, yeah.
Okay, so first we see the recap from when we last saw Carol and Morgan with the former badly
injured because of a savior (I think) and the latter facing two men with horses and body armors
looking bad ass as heck. Then comes the well known and loved masterpiece of Bear McCreary which
is also known as The Walking Dead theme song. Also, quick fact that I m not even sure is quite
precise but to heck with it: McCreary wanted to compose something that when we hear it, TWD
almost immediately comes to mind. And indeed, it has. Kudos to Bear McCreary!
Now, going back, we see Carol laid unto something, a somewhat wheelbarrow like carriage that is
being dragged by a horse when suddenly, I don t know. Sorry! Bad at storytelling but we re now in
Carol s temporary POV and we see the badasses and Morgan fighting. She looks in a ... Show more

Emotions occur when a personal interest will be harmed or will be promoted and this can lead to take

for people from different cultures. The basic emotions are joy, fear, anger, sadness and disgust. Other
emotions are derived from these basic emotions. Differences between positive and negative emotions
can easily be distinguished, joy is positive and fear is negative for example. Just 4% of the Jaffna

Women have only 30 percent of power to overcome issues when they ride cycle but at the same time
men have 70 percent of knowledge to handling the issues related cycling. This clearly says that men

Within experience of a journey, Comfort and speed are important which are influenced by the qualities
of the built environment but also other factors play a role. Comfort refers as convenience and safety
aspects, which includes for example pavement quality, a scenic environment and little traffic. (See

experience comfort and speed are expressed. Study found that the most important determinant of
cycling for women was their level of comfort bicycling . Although men experienced the high
discomfort on average as women, they were more likely to state that they would ride anyway, whereas
women said they would not. Nearly 95.8 percent of the cyclists are feeling

Kayapo Way of Life
The Kayapo Indians live in the Amazon River Basin of Brazil with villages along the Xingu River.
Vanderbilt reports that their population in 2003 was 7,096. They inhabit over 28.4 million acres of the
Amazonian Rainforest. This land was received formally via land reserves from Brazil in the 1980 s
and 1990 s. The land is mostly tropical rainforest and grassland. The Kayapo live in balance with their
natural ecosystem. The indigenous people hunt, fish, and practice slash and burn agriculture.
The Kayapo way of life is ever threatened by mining, logging and the threat of Brazilian developers

Body Shop has been buying oil processed by the Kayapo. The `Trade Not Aid project has long been
the centerpiece of The Body Shop s attempt to market itself as a socially responsible business.
Although the relationship between the Kayapo and The Body Shop has reportedly been strained, this
is an example of how the Kayapo have learned to coexist with outsiders in business.
Additionally, I support the Kayapo s efforts to stop the construction of dams in the region. According
to Amazonwatch.org the Brazilian government is moving forward at any cost with plans to build the
third largest dam in the world and one of the Amazon s most controversial development projects the
Belo Monte dam on the Xingu River in the state of Pará. Belo Monte s three reservoirs will flood 400
square kilometers of agricultural land and forest. If this project proceeds, it would all but wipe out the
Kayapo and their way of life.
Finally, the Brazilian government and the rest of the world must come to realize that the increasing
destruction of the rain forest threatens the delicate balance between humans, plants, and animals. The
Kayapo have successfully maintained this balance for thousands of years. We have an obligation to
ensure they are able to continue to maintain this balance.

competing goals and policies in regards to criminal sentencing. This paper explores the ideas behind
changes made to the sentencing policies with the United States judicial system. It begins with an
overview of the goals behind criminal sentencing. This paper concludes with a discussion on the
current status and disparities involving criminal sentencing.

In The Limits of Criminal Sanction, Herbert Packer said that criminal punishment should serve two
purposes; deserved infliction of suffering on evil doers and the prevention of crime ... Show more

Incapacitation is another goal behind criminal sentencing. The idea is simple. By incapacitating
someone (keeping them in prison) they will no longer be able to commit crimes against society. Long
prison sentences are not the only means of incapacitating someone. Incapacitation looks at reducing
the offender s ability and opportunity to commit future crimes. This can be done through intensive
supervision, electronic monitoring, and even the requirement to register as a sex offender can be seen
as incapacitating. Incapacitation assumes that most criminals will continue to commit crimes if they
are not restrained.
Another goal of criminal sentencing is to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation is a programmed effort to alter
the attitudes and behaviors of inmates and improve their likelihood of becoming law abiding citizens
(Seiter, 2008, p. 32). Rehabilitation assumes that criminals have underlying problems that are the
cause of their criminality and that if these causes are treated, the offender can return to society and
possibly provide some type of restitution for the victims of their crimes.
Restitution is also a goal of criminal sentencing. Many sentences with or without confinement also
involve some type of compensation, either in fines paid to the government or in damages paid to the

Waknuk s Present Day Women
The women who stray away from the preset quotas on how they must act in society are ridiculed. The
author establishes this issue well in the cases of Sophie Wender, Rosalind Morton, and Aunt Harriet.
These individuals are undoubtedly the most developed emotionally, as well as the most assertive and
genuine representations of present day women, shown throughout the novel. Rosalind and Sophie are
the closest there are to heroines in consideration of the fact they repeatedly confront and fight for their
beliefs in how mutants should be treated. This is a stark contrast to the general representation, which is
one of fearful, timid housewives who only do as their husbands permit them. Nevertheless their way
of acting is considered sinful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest display of this social hierarchy is introduced through the story of Elias Strorm, the most
prominent figure in Waknuk s history. In a few seasons he straitened the coltishness with admonitions,
faded the pink and gold with preaching, and produced a sad, grey wraith of wifehood who died,
unprotesting, a year after her second son was born (1616). One could even argue that Elias s wife died
twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a submissive housewife, and finally when
her heart stopped beating. This imagined ideal of how a proper wife must act did not die with Elias, as
Joseph Strorm decided to not make the same mistake with his wife. Emily Strorm, while being slightly
less frail and decrepit than Elias s wife, she is still at the same mercy to Joseph as Elias s wife was to
him. When David was beaten by Joseph Emily was unable to anything other than cry as she dressed
his wounds. Emily, Elias s wife, as well as all other women in the novel (even to an extent in the
fringes) are submissive and do not question or disobey their husbands will. The only exception of a
strong leader like female would be the Sealand Woman. She is the true hero of the novel with her
looming moral presence throughout the third act. She is unshamefully proud of her telepathic abilities
and boasts about Sealand s advanced technology to the extent of

Jung-Typology Personality Assessment
Reflection on the Jung Typology Personality Assessment and DISC Leadership Assessment
While both the Jung Typology and the DISC s assessment varies, mostly the characteristics it read
were seemingly similar. Both tests seem to find my personality to be more introverted and cautious
than extroverted and daring. I believe that these tests are mostly accurate, but have some flaws
intertwined within.
Through the Jung Typology assessment, my results were not surprising and mostly accurate. My
results came back as ISFJ, meaning I am more introverted than extroverted, more sensing than
intuitive, more feeling than sensing, and more judging than perceiving. D. Kiersey mentions that ISFJ
s are protectors , this is a valid statement as I feel that often times I think about everyone else before ...

The DISC assessment, similar to the Jung Typology, I felt was not as accurate and I found more to
disagree with. The DISC was more in depth, I thought. The DISC said that I was less decisive,
moderately interactive, highly stable, and extremely cautious. Once again the DISC assessment also
said I would prefer a stable work environment, and I still disagree with that one.
However, I believe it was spot on when it says that I like to analyze a situation before I act on a
decision and I am normally the quiet person in a heated debate. In the interactive category, I was
almost directly in the middle. However, the only true thing in this category is the fact that I prefer to
work alone, the rest were close, but I felt that they were not as explicit at the Jung
Typology. For the stability category, I had a pretty high score, which was not very surprising to me.
This category was pretty accurate, saying that I am patient with a wide variety of people and that I m
not great at letting things go. The cautious category was the highest score (99). This was almost 100%
accurate based on my personality. The only flaw I found was that it said I have

Robin Williams
Robin Williams was born on July 21, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated school in 1969 after that
he started attending Claremont Men s College and studying political science, but that was not what
Williams was really interested in. He soon left Claremont Men s College and started to attend College
of Marin where he then began studying his true passion for acting. He soon started getting
scholarships left and right and he accepted one which was to the Juilliard School in New York City.
Williams big break was in 1977 when the creator of the well know TV show Happy Days employed
Williams for the show.
Williams has been in many movies over the years some such as Aladdin, Hook, and Mrs. Doubtfire.
These were some of my favorites growing up, I still watch many of his films today. No matter what

video. I m sending all my love to you, Jack and Sophie ... knock this off your bucket list. unfortunately

So this next topic is kinda touchy it is about his suicide and the details about it. Robin Williams died
on August 11, 2014, he was for in his home in California he had hung himself. Williams had been
suffering from many things which had an impact on his suicide, he had depression, anxiety, and he

The War Of The American Civil War
When the American Civil War began in the spring of 1861, those flocking to enlistment stations in
states both north and south chiefly defined their cause as one of preservation. From Maine to
Minnesota, young men joined up to preserve the Union. From Virginia to Texas, their future foes on
the battlefield enlisted to preserve a social order, a social order at its core built on the institution of
slavery and racial superiority . Secession had not been framed by prominent Southerners like Robert
Toombs as a defensive measure to retain the fruits of the revolution against King George, a fight
against those who sought to intrique insurrection with all its nameless horrors. (Toombs Speech) On
January 1, 1863, when Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect the war became a
revolution. The Union, the soldiers in blue fought to preserve could no longer exist. On every mile of
soil, they would return to the Stars and Stripes from that moment on, the fabric of society would be
irrevocably changed. In May of 1865, with the abolition of slavery engrained into the Constitution
with the passage of the 13th Amendment, the Confederate armies of Lee and Johnston disbanded, and
Lincoln dead of an assassin s bullet; this change was the only certainty the torn fabric of the newly
reunited states was left to be resown. Andrew Johnson and Southern Democrats believed the
revolution of 1863 had gone far enough. Radical Republicans and African Americans sought instead to

AAnalysis On Wordpress And Plugin Libraries
Conclusion
Sense its conception WordPress has managed to retain much of features and philosophies that have
made it very attractive to so many users such as its intuitive user interface. Its ease of use typically
makes it one of the first systems even most reluctant professionals explore. It is by far one of the
simplest systems to learn while still providing many easy to integrate features through its robust theme
and plugin libraries. It many also be the most future proof of the three CMS options in terms of
support, updates, and compatibility with new and emerging technologies between WordPress s very
large and growing community paired with Automattic s acquisitions of complimentary software
companies it is fair to say WordPress has concreted its position as one of the leading CMSs long into
the future.
Drupal
Setup Maintenance
Drupal s installation process is similar to both WordPress and Joomla. The user simply downloads the
package and uploads it to their server and runs the installation script. Drupal is designed to be a blank
slate out of the box and is only system out of the group that is meant to be customized before truly
being used. It also offers distributions of pre packaged bundles of modules and configurations to
create specific kinds of websites. While I do give Drupal a better ranking on setup than Joomla, it
loses any merits gained when it comes to maintenance. Due to the fact its system was created to be
customized it has a lot more is riding on each

How Does Rick Riordan Use Figurative Language In The...
Rick Riordan is an amazing author that is well known for his amazing books and novels. Rick Riordan
wrote several novels, but his most famous series is the Percy Jackson. The Lightning Thief was the
beginning of the series. Percy had to accept how he is a half blood and has to return the stolen
lightning bolt from Hades before a war starts. The authors style is fiction and greek mythology.
Rick Riordan writing style is very vivid. He writes in such detail that no area is not defined. His books
contains figurative language. For example, Just as it hit me, as I stumbled backward and felt its razor
sharp claws ripping through my armor, there was a cascade of thwacking sounds, like forty pieces of
paper being ripped on after the other. ( Ch 8, pg. 130) To explain this quote uses simile. A simile is a
technique that writers use, which is putting something in comparison using like ... Show more content

Another writing style he uses is imagery. An example of imagery in the Lightning Thief is, The
landscape was dotted with buildings that looked like ancient Greek architecture an open air pavilion,
an amphitheater, a circular arena except that they all looked brand new, their white marble columns
sparkling in the sun. In a nearby sandpit, a dozen high school aged kids and satyrs played volleyball.
Canoes glided across a small lake. Kids in bright orange T shirts like Grover s were chasing each other
around a cluster of cabins nestled in the woods (Chapter 5, pg. 67) To explain imagery is a visually
descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work. An example of imagery is, the slide
was smooth and slick and was painted a bright faded red. This quote visually explains how the slide
looks like. The use of this simile furthers the story because you can feel the story forming around you.
To conclude, the use of imagery makes the story more clear for the reader to understand the

Journal Report On Journal ( Trip ) ( 2011-2012 Item No. 1
Journal (Trip to France) 2011 2012 Item No. 1
The first item in my portfolio is a journal from when my family took a trip to France. Since my dad
was granted a sabbatical, our family travelled to the south of France for a year to learn French and
gain cultural experience. We took this trip during the time I was in Grade 6; however, we had to take
school in French instead, which was probably more difficult. I chose to add this journal because it is
an accurate summary of many of the things my family did in France, and it shows my progress
throughout the year learning French.
In order to be able to communicate while my family was in France, all of us had to learn to speak and
write in French. This was a challenge, but we took lessons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, I would make sure to keep a more detailed account of what I was doing. I would need to
keep a better journal so that I could remember all the things I did. There are so many things to do and
see that it is nearly impossible not to forget something!
In France, I learned the value of heightened social and interpersonal skills and awareness. I found that
when speaking in French, I was much more confident than when I spoke in English, and this led to me
being less introverted. By writing a journal, I also learned how to summarize facts concisely, and how
to communicate effectively.
This journal demonstrates that I have effective communication skills, especially in writing. It also
shows how I am always working to improve my general skill set. You can see this throughout the
journal, as my French gets better and better!
Rock (Asteroids Game) July 2013 Item No. 2
As the second item in my portfolio, I chose to add a rock. Although a rock is something very ordinary,
to me it represents something very special: the time when I created a clone of the arcade game
Asteroids. This was significant because it was the first time I had created a video game that actually
looked professional; it was also the first video game for which I developed a fully functional
computerized opponent. I chose a rock to represent part of me in my portfolio, because it is a

Essay On Voter ID Laws
Texas Voter ID Laws Voter ID laws are the laws set into place that require a person to show some form
of identification to vote, most of which require PHOTO ID. Senate Bill 14, which requires proof of
Identification; providing criminal penalties and Senate Bill 5, which requires a voter to present proof
of ID; providing a criminal penalty and increasing a criminal penalty are the two bills being
questioned at the time. Senate bill 5 was the revised version of SB 14, which was put into place so that
voters with no photo ID could sign a declaration and still cast their vote. SB 5 was thrown out with
Attorney General Paxton saying our argument is simple that this is a legitimate act of legislature. This
is not discriminatory. In 2011 the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law that says the types of photo ID election officials can/cannot accept at polls goes against the
Voting Rights Act. More than 600,000 Texans lack the form(s) of photo ID that are required through
SB 14. However, these citizens are able to obtain election ID certificates for free, but only if they can
produce a copy of their birth certificate. Some opponents of Texas law say that there is nothing in SB
14 that is discriminatory, but the judges of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals still chose to reject it. Both
bills were motivated by racism; neither was necessary to preserve voter integrity. Shelby County v.
Holder is relevant to SB 14 in that it weakened federal over state and county elections. Congress
method for determining which jurisdictions are subjected to preclearance, was struck down by the
supreme court in this decision. The federal district court denied preclearance of SB 14. Texas is not
permitted to implement the photo ID law, says Andrade from Texas Secretary of State. This started the
suppression of minority voting rights, however a federal court is able to make a state submit its voting
laws to the District of Judges for approval for up to 10 years if the state was intentionally engaging in
race based voter suppression. If Texas is put under preclearance, the state will have to prove/show the
federal government that its election laws are not discriminatory against minorities for the next 10
years.

situation together to find out that the organ had to be the body s own and decided on a trip to get to the

Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences
The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road, few
films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of Sino
Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films
such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The
Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this
turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved.
Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed
work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic
periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty
different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. How can anyone make sense of
that on paper other than listing the number of casualties? Film, deeply aware of its limitations has
become a different form of understanding the past, capable of taking a particular event such as war
and exploring universal themes. Historian Natalie Zemon Davis states that: Historians want to
chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it happened and what difference it
made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past and the present, the

hundreds of lives. We can see how the Catholic Social Teaching Principles a line with their past ways,

Many of the speakers made it clear that children that had parents in the boarding schools were terribly
abused. These children turn into adults and did not know how to display love, and have anger issues.
This in turn is taken out on their kids and then their kids making a chain of abuse within the
generations. Not knowing how to deal with the abuse, and how to let go the abused turn to alcohol or
drugs to deal with the emotion and trauma that come from it, and become addicted.
Alcohol and drugs are also the number one way to cope for the Cherokee who have grown up with no
identity too. They know their name but not who they are. They belong to a culture that is being torn
down, and being forced into the United States culture. For a while it was even shameful to be a

WTO GAMMA Round Malaysia s Trade Agreements
Malaysia is one of the fastest growing and most open economies of our decade (World Bank 2017). Its
geographical location plays a large role in this. Malaysia neighbors Singapore, Thailand, and borders
the Gulf of Thailand and the Malacca Straight. The east and west sides of the country are completely
exposed to bodies of water and near the global trade route which enhances the country s accessibility
and facilitates development and foreign trade. Malaysia s GDP is 296.4 billion USD (2016 WB) and is

EVIDENCE:
According to the H O model countries export products that use their abundant and cheap factors of
production and import goods that use the countries scarce factors. In the case of Malaysia, it is
electronic integrated circuits. As stated before, it amounts to 40% of the country s total exports.
Although Malaysia s comparative advantage is in manufacturing electronic goods, its productivity is

one is labor abundant and the other capital abundant. In the case of Malaysia and its three major trade

Scolding Decrease Behavior
Explain how scolding might decrease behavior in one case and increase behavior in another.
There are several ways in which mom and dad can unintentionally escalate bad behaviors and/or
diminish great behaviors. Reinforcement is used to aid and expand the chance that a particular
behavior will arise with the delivery of a stimulus promptly after a response is exhibited.
Positive reinforcement is a very compelling and efficient tool to help form and change habits. Positive
reinforcement works by imparting a motivating item to the individual after the preferred behavior is
exhibited, making the behavior more likely to happen sooner than later. An instance of this tactic
would be Jimmy getting $10 for each A he earned on his report card. The definition

Examination Of The Fourth Amendment
Examination of the Fourth Amendment The fundamental purpose of the Fourth Amendment in the
United States Constitution is to protect every citizen s right from unreasonable searches and seizures.
The Bill of Rights composed of the first 10 amendments states the limits of governmental authority.
For instance, the First Amendment guarantees individuals natural rights such as freedom of speech,
religion, and press. In addition, the Fourth Amendment restricts government intrusions into personal
privacy and property. Both the Bill of Rights and the Fourth Amendment emerged from several
English political documents such as the Magna Carta, the Petition of Right, and the English Bill of
Rights ( Bill of Rights Bill of Rights Institute ). Among these documents, the Magna Carta particularly
had a major influence on the establishment of the Fourth Amendment. Although the majority of the
laws addressed in the document are no longer valid in today s democratic system, the Magna Carta
was the first written document to guarantee citizens rights (Sen). Prior to the American Revolution, the
American colonies were not protected from unreasonable infringement. For instance, the British
colonists enforced tax measures by general searches, which constituted an unacceptable intrusion
(Levy). Although Writs of Assistance were issued by King George to investigate evidence of
smuggling by the colonists, they allowed the British agents to enter and search anyone s property

  • 2. Explore the Claim That a Consumer Society Is Always a... Disposable income Values of rubbish Overseas Factories Waste being sent overseas Seduced amp; Repressed Migrants Recycling Consumption Consumer society Explore the claim that a consumer society is always a throw away society. In this essay I will be outlining consumerism and claims that a consumer society is always a throw away society. Consumption plays a big part in our lives and causes us to live in divided societies. It may make us feel like we fit in buying new gadgets and clothes and also give us that sense of belonging but we don t take into account what happens to the old items and packaging. People do not want to look at the problems caused. I will use this essay with the evidence I have read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We often question how our food and clothes can be sold so cheap, this all comes down to where it is made or grown. Our clothes are made overseas in factories by women and in some cases even children in unsuitable conditions. They work long hours and don t get paid much in return, it is said to be less than what they can afford to live on and made to work extra hours. This is why large stores like Primark and Asda can sell their clothes at such little cost. Some of the workers are said to be working 60 to 90 hours every week for as little as £17 per month. (Making social lives pg.88) The workers in the factories are grateful for their small wage and would struggle if the factories were to close and business was took elsewhere. The growth of consumption has caused a large increase in rubbish. This is due to people having more choice when out shopping. Many years ago women stayed at home and men went to work but now that both men and women are out earning there is a lot more disposable income which ends with people buying luxuries and upgrading items they already have. This results in the old ones being thrown away. People are constantly upgrading and renewing items to better models. Mobile phones bring out new models every year which people feel the need to buy to keep up with the trend and because they want the newest gadgets on the street. Pcs have changed to laptops which gives the pc no home except out to be collected on bin day. This causes a problem

  • 4. Lydia Martin Research Paper If I were to be someone else, or to be like someone else, I would choose to be Lydia Martin. Lydia Martin is one of the main female characters on a popular TV show, Teen Wolf. She is one of the few females in the show, and has to deal with ignorant boys a lot of the time. For this reason, I deeply relate to her, as most of my life is spent dealing with ignorant boys who I choose to spend my time with for whatever reason. She is a very strong character, with a very dominant presence in many people s lives. It is that among many other reasons that I would wish to be like her, if I could. Lydia s physical being is absolutely gorgeous. She is rather petite, coming to shoulder height on most of the guys she hangs out with. She has strawberry blonde hair that comes down to her mid back, and hazel green eyes that change color when inside or outside. She has a broad smile and a look to her face that makes you know she isn t messing around. As for her personality, she s very diverse. She is extremely intelligent, scarily so at times, and uses it to her advantage every chance she gets. On top of being intelligent, she is an extremely strong person. She goes through tremendous amounts of trauma on an almost daily basis, and still makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am a very insecure person, with my looks being the main source of my insecurities. I don t like my height, my smile, nose, or hair length or color. Lydia has long, flowy hair, and is taller but still an average height. Lydia has a small nose and a nice smile as well. And not only that, but how she feels about herself is entirely more confident than I feel about myself. I am not a very self confident person, even though I try to carry myself as such. Lydia, however, is extremely confident in herself and the way she carries herself. • 5. Public Health Course Analysis I signed up to take this course because of my curiosity surrounding public health: what it is, what professions one can hold in it, and what its role is in society. Upon taking this course, my understanding of public health has expanded greatly and I am now able to answer my previous questions about the field. In class, we defined public health as both a science and an art, and I learned that this is true; public health involves scientists studying epidemiology and the incidences of disease as well as professionals who promote health in the environment and public sector. First, the area in which my understanding of public health expanded the most involved the different professions one can hold in public health. We learned that there are five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I plan on entering the workforce of nonprofit management in the future, with possible concentrations of either arts management or professional and grant writing. The main public health concept that I feel ties to this career path would be social justice because if I am working in a field that serves disadvantaged communities, social justice must be important to me personally. If social justice were not on the top of my list of priorities, I could not effectively carry out the duties of my job. One quote I wrote down prominently in my notes is the dream of public health is the dream of social justice. To me, this means making certain that every person has access to the advantages of public health measures will lead to a healthy and balanced society. In this class, I found that essentially everything in society leads back to public health and it is a field that communities must uphold in order to provide optimal quality of life for its ... • 6. The Globalization Of The Economy The globalization of the economy encourages organizations to achieve greater market coverage, which allows companies to define or redefine its strategic posture. Thus, there have been so intense outsourcing processes that enable organizations to address the new challenges and therefore, organizations must develop skills and abilities that enable them to cope with the demands from the environment. Knowledge and analysis of the internal part of the organization and his environment arise the strategic lines that must be converted into actions to develop advantages and create greater value to what they do. A strategic outsourcing option is a long term process, where the commitment of contractors should encourage financing training and technical assistance to subcontractors for this to have greater chance of success. Over the past 3 decades, China has experienced unprecedented growth, both because of its speed and its scope. It has established itself as the world s factory and supply base favorite for companies that want to reduce costs. The country offers competitive products and services to a wide variety of sectors, thanks to its numerous facilities and specialized industrial clusters, to its abundant skilled labor at low cost and to important incentives of the Government. But producing on another continent and Chinese suppliers, it remains complex. • 7. Theme Of Marriage In Canterbury Tales Spousal Scammers Over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce in the United States, a number which has only been rising throughout the past years. Marriages end in cheating and separation frequently, so much that the United States has become accustomed to it, but does it have to be this way? Canterbury Tales is a collection of tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer that were told by traveling pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. The tales are told by people of varying occupations and social status, and focus on different morals, one of the most prevalent being the roles of husbands and wives in marriage. By juxtaposing marriages of infidelity with those of loyalty, Chaucer satirizes the 14th century ideals of marriage by showing that relationships based on control drive women to cheat, while relationships built on love and mutual trust ultimately flourish. In The Merchant s Tale , a very controlling husband loses his wife to a young man who easily wins her over, a common theme throughout the Canterbury Tales that Chaucer uses to warn readers about unhealthy relationships. Chaucer frequently refers to wives throughout these tales as property, saying To take a wife is an excellent thing, / especially when a man is old and grey; / Then she s the best part of his property (314). January from The Merchant s Tale takes a wife On whom he may beget a son and heir for exactly that reason only (314). He has rapacity for his land and money and wants it to go to a son. When he ... • 8. Harley Davidson And The Motorcycle Industry History: Foundation: It all started in Milwaukee, Winsconsin in 1903 when William Harley, Walter and Arthur Davidson created their first Harley Davidson in their family building. Harley Davidson and the motorcycle industry wasn t a big company until after the Second World War. Many people rode motorcycles during the war, with Harley Davidson themselves becoming the major supplier not only for the U.S. military but other allied forces as well during this time. Many veterans chose to purchase motorcycles upon returning home, as they enjoyed riding during the war and wanted to continue riding in their civilian life. This generation quickly became the main target audience for many of Harley Davidson s marketing efforts and main target for buyers as by 1956, Indian Motorcycles declared bankruptcy and stopped producing motorcycles altogether, leaving only Harley as a major producer and seller of motorcycles. Harley Davidson Today and the challenges: The motorcycle industry offers products which can be viewed as luxuries or wants as opposed to necessities. Harley Davidson owns Buell motorcycle and Harley Davidson financial services. Harley Davidson now holds 55 percent of the entire U.S. motorcycle market, and an even higher share in the U.S. heavy motorcycle market. This is the result of increasing investment in R D. Harley Davidson now has over 6,000 employees. Harley Davidson has benefited from a segment of the U.S. market which enjoys recreational riding. This isn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Inequality You can tell there is inequality in this world just simply based on the word mankind . I am sure almost everyone in the world has been impacted by some sort of inequality/ abuse of power in the world. Inequality can occur when a population of any kind does not maintain a common status, or could also be a difference in power between individuals. Inequality can take place anywhere at any time, and has been a major problem in the world today. Some people may not care about this, some people really express their feelings on this subject, but some people just simply don t know much about the subject. Inequality can happen anywhere from your own home to globally all over the world. Back in my hometown, Medford Massachusetts, I work at a local popular sub shop. This sub shop has people coming from all neighboring towns just dying to try one of our famous subs. I work here as a chef with a small crew of around 6 total workers who are all very close to each other. I have been working here for a while, and I have seen workers come and go, but the one thing I realized is that I ve never seen/heard of a girl working here before. I figured I would bring this topic across to my boss, Joe. My boss was sort of looked at as a local hero. He was always quick to crack a joke with his workers, and even his customers. He was overall a hilarious, hardworking man who was great to talk to. He invented the famous sub called the bboy back in 1976, which is ham, sausage, bacon, 2 eggs, cheese, ... • 11. Music Censorship Is Not Possible Without The Color Red And... This statement is very impactful in how he uses the example of painting the American flag, it s not possible without the color red and for artists to not be able to write songs using their past experiences that isn t quite possible either. Another limitation of music censorship is that lyrics are poetry and are filled with double meanings so what may be obscene to one person may be perfectly acceptable to another. John Denver testified at the 1985 hearing of the PMRC stating that his song Rocky Mountain High , which had previously been banned on many radio stations thinking it was about drugs, was actually about the beauty of the nature and the mountains in Colorado (Rabkin). Another example of lyrics with double meanings is the song ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ten to thirty percent of the students gave the correct interpretations of the songs while twenty to sixty percent gave incorrect or vague responses. The remainder of students refused to answer (Nuzum 64). The difference in interpretations between adults and teens can be shown through this study and there is a reason for the difference. Interpretations can be caused by the fact that one s understanding is limited to their knowledge on the topic. Greenfield conducted a study on four different age groups: fourth, eighth, and twelfth graders and college students. Two songs, Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen and Like a Virgin by Madonna, were played for the participants. Following each song they were asked to fill out a questionnaire. The questions asked about their comprehension of both specific words in the lyrics and about the overall meaning. The results for the understanding of Bruce Springsteen s song was low. After hearing the song entirely and seeing certain excerpts on the questionnaire sixty percent of the overall sample couldn t answer the questions regarding song content. Contrary to the title and refrain, the song is about the loss of hope and resentment. The percentage of participants who understood the song s actual themes were very low. • 12. Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino GRAN TORINO Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist tormented character to a compassionate father figure. Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten. The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. What Was The Monroe Doctrine The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any independent state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States . The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th century, Monroe s declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United States and one of its longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and several U.S. presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. INTRODUCTION The following research paper is about how General Motors (GM) new leadership help bring the company out of bankruptcy and into profitability. This paper will explore the different styles of leadership of the various CEOs and Executives that contributed to the restructuring of the organization and brining GM back to profitability. Can different leadership styles affect a organizations revenue? BACKGROUND/ RESEARCH In 2009, GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was actively seeking financial assistance from the federal government. The following year it returned with a $4.7B profit and underwent changes in its corporate governance. The first step was to replace the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the time, Rick Wagoner, as part of the bailout deal (King Stoll, 2009). Wagoner was criticized for his stubbornness to be adaptable in the automotive industry where the market constantly shifts from cars to trucks. This meant that he was relaxed and did not challenge the changing market, but instead when along with the market and continued to play along. He was also ridiculed for not pushing his employees to come up new ideas to challenge the market. Because of this Wagoner allowed GM to fall into complacency, and eventually leading to the organizations bankruptcy (Baldoni, 2009). Wagoner s unwillingness to connect with his employees and unwillingness to challenge the market lead to the bankruptcy of GM, also his lack of experience in the automotive industry or ... Joan Macy employs many ideas to engage the reader into her point of view and outlines the book in a very different way that distinguishes it from other books. (Quote 1) To begin with Reflecting on Success on page 226; this part of the book inspired me. Her quote If the change we want doesn t happen in our lifetime, does that mean we will never experience success? For the encouraging boost we get when we know we re moving forward, we need to find markers of progress we can spot more easily and often. Not only is this quote important but it can be relevant to many things we live through and foresee daily. For example, if one is trying to achieve a certain fitness goal, it is not the brightest outlook to just select a very far fetched goal and not track small points of progress beforehand. In fact, if one was to do such a thing, it would be rather challenging since frustration and injury would occur before one could even see any results since the results are not being analyzed closely enough. ... But before that, let s start at the beginning. So for those who haven t seen the newest and latest episode of TWD, beware as this contains spoilers. Really. Anyway, yeah. Okay, so first we see the recap from when we last saw Carol and Morgan with the former badly injured because of a savior (I think) and the latter facing two men with horses and body armors looking bad ass as heck. Then comes the well known and loved masterpiece of Bear McCreary which is also known as The Walking Dead theme song. Also, quick fact that I m not even sure is quite precise but to heck with it: McCreary wanted to compose something that when we hear it, TWD almost immediately comes to mind. And indeed, it has. Kudos to Bear McCreary! Now, going back, we see Carol laid unto something, a somewhat wheelbarrow like carriage that is being dragged by a horse when suddenly, I don t know. Sorry! Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Incapacitation is another goal behind criminal sentencing. The idea is simple. By incapacitating someone (keeping them in prison) they will no longer be able to commit crimes against society. Long prison sentences are not the only means of incapacitating someone. Incapacitation looks at reducing the offender s ability and opportunity to commit future crimes. This can be done through intensive supervision, electronic monitoring, and even the requirement to register as a sex offender can be seen as incapacitating. Incapacitation assumes that most criminals will continue to commit crimes if they are not restrained. Another goal of criminal sentencing is to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation is a programmed effort to alter the attitudes and behaviors of inmates and improve their likelihood of becoming law abiding citizens (Seiter, 2008, p. 32). Rehabilitation assumes that criminals have underlying problems that are the cause of their criminality and that if these causes are treated, the offender can return to society and possibly provide some type of restitution for the victims of their crimes. The author establishes this issue well in the cases of Sophie Wender, Rosalind Morton, and Aunt Harriet. These individuals are undoubtedly the most developed emotionally, as well as the most assertive and genuine representations of present day women, shown throughout the novel. Rosalind and Sophie are the closest there are to heroines in consideration of the fact they repeatedly confront and fight for their beliefs in how mutants should be treated. This is a stark contrast to the general representation, which is one of fearful, timid housewives who only do as their husbands permit them. Nevertheless their way of acting is considered sinful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The earliest display of this social hierarchy is introduced through the story of Elias Strorm, the most prominent figure in Waknuk s history. In a few seasons he straitened the coltishness with admonitions, faded the pink and gold with preaching, and produced a sad, grey wraith of wifehood who died, unprotesting, a year after her second son was born (1616). One could even argue that Elias s wife died twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a submissive housewife, and finally when her heart stopped beating. This imagined ideal of how a proper wife must act did not die with Elias, as Joseph Strorm decided to not make the same mistake with his wife. The topic of Sino Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved. Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. Historian Natalie Zemon Davis states that: Historians want to chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it happened and what difference it made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past and the present, the ... There are several ways in which mom and dad can unintentionally escalate bad behaviors and/or diminish great behaviors. Reinforcement is used to aid and expand the chance that a particular behavior will arise with the delivery of a stimulus promptly after a response is exhibited. Positive reinforcement is a very compelling and efficient tool to help form and change habits.
