What is a Digital Story?

• What is a digital story?
    • Examples are on the website!
• Why are digital stories so awesome?
    • Encourage student expression and creativity
    • Requires writing and public speaking
    • Yields a flashy product students can be proud of

What will our digital stories be about?

• You will be creating a story that will advocate for
  something. Topics include:
  1. You are a teacher (in your subject area/level), and you are making a
     pitch to your principal, administrator, an agency granting money for
     your classroom, or someone in authority. In this video, you are
     making a specific argument for how you could and should use
     technology in your classroom. Think big, but also be realistic
  2. Imagine a teacher or teachers in your subject area who are resistant
     to using any digital technologies in their classrooms. Make an
     argument to them for tools that they can use, what they can do
     with them, and why?
  3. Pick one tool (from tool list below ) and talk about how you would
     specifically use it in your classroom
• Visuals
  •    You will create the visual components – not download or find them;
       all visuals should be your creation

Steps in the Process…

1. Create a script (Due: Week 2)
2. Create a storyboard (Due: Week 3)
3. Gather all media/pieces, record audio (Due:
   Week 4)
4. Assemble with music using Windows Movie
   Maker or iMovie and create the final version.
   (Due Week 5)

1. Create A Script

•        Choose one of the topics:
    1. You are a teacher (in your subject area/level), and you are making a

• Use Microsoft Word to write your script
          • Read it aloud – is it engaging like a story?
          • It should be around 2 or 3 paragraphs or 1 page.
• Submit your file to Oncourse -> Assignments -> “Digital
  Story Script”

  • Be professional
     • Check your grammar and spelling
  • Appropriate length
     • Not too short, Not too long (2min)
  • Stick to the topics
  • The story is reflective and interesting
     • Make it ENGAGING!!!

  • 2. What is a Digital Story? • What is a digital story? • Examples are on the website! • Why are digital stories so awesome? • Encourage student expression and creativity • Requires writing and public speaking • Yields a flashy product students can be proud of EDUC W200 Week 1
  • 3. What will our digital stories be about? • You will be creating a story that will advocate for something. Topics include: 1. You are a teacher (in your subject area/level), and you are making a pitch to your principal, administrator, an agency granting money for your classroom, or someone in authority. In this video, you are making a specific argument for how you could and should use technology in your classroom. Think big, but also be realistic 2. Imagine a teacher or teachers in your subject area who are resistant to using any digital technologies in their classrooms. Make an argument to them for tools that they can use, what they can do with them, and why? 3. Pick one tool (from tool list below ) and talk about how you would specifically use it in your classroom • Visuals • You will create the visual components – not download or find them; all visuals should be your creation EDUC W200 Week 1
  • 4. Steps in the Process… 1. Create a script (Due: Week 2) 2. Create a storyboard (Due: Week 3) 3. Gather all media/pieces, record audio (Due: Week 4) 4. Assemble with music using Windows Movie Maker or iMovie and create the final version. (Due Week 5) EDUC W200 Week 1
  • 5. 1. Create A Script • Choose one of the topics: 1. You are a teacher (in your subject area/level), and you are making a pitch to your principal, administrator, an agency granting money for your classroom, or someone in authority.   • 6. 1. Create A Script • How is your script will be evaluated? • Be professional • Check your grammar and spelling • Appropriate length • Not too short, Not too long (2min) • Stick to the topics • The story is reflective and interesting • Make it ENGAGING!!! • Be personal EDUC W200 Week 1
