What is your library doing to provide a secure digital environment for library patrons? How is your library protecting the privacy of patrons in this digital world? Patron privacy is of critical importance to libraries, and should be a foundational principle guiding library policy and practice. Our guests share practical tips and advice on how to better protect patron privacy. We also share recommended resources for continued learning on this topic.

Expanding Internationally Through Partnerships: Practical Lessons For 21st Ce...Rmasisak
Ā
Rebecca Masisak and Marnie Webb, Co-CEOs, TechSoup Global
Your organization is currently doing critical work in the United States, but you recognize the need to grow its reach and impact internationally. What models should be considered? How do key staff and boards step up to support experimentation and adroitly shape and govern the emerging structures and brand?
Important lessons can be learned from pioneering TechSoup Global. As worldwide demand for its programs grew, TechSoup Global's leadership team and board struggled with developing an organizational model that would mobilize partners around a common mission and include contributions from multiple players. Like most organizations, key considerations included expansion without significant additions in headcount and overhead. Now operating in 33 countries with three distinct boards of directors, TechSoup Global has successfully built a growing global network of locally driven programs.
A showcase of applicable insights, this session explores lessons learned, innovative technologies deployed, organizational models piloted and refined, and how boards influence and model the kind of leadership needed as organizations expand internationally.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Ā
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
Ā
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesarās dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empireās birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empireās society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

At any time let us know if you have any technical issues such as audio problems or being able to view the slides. You may ask questions for our presenters at any time and we will keep track of them. We will keep all lines muted so that you can get a clear recording to refer to later. You will get that full recording, slides, and any links we share today in a followup email from me by tomorrow. If you lose your connection, you can go back to your registration email to reconnect.
If you were registered more than an hour ago, the reminder email has the PowerPoint slide deck attached as a link in the right hand column. Keep in mind a lot of todayās webinar will be a live shared demo so that wonāt be in the slides, but will be in the recording to view later. If you are hearing an echo, you may be logged in twice, so you will need to close one of the Readytalk windows. If you have any other technical issues, dial into the 800 number.
TechSoup doesnāt just help NGOs overcome barriers to effective use of technology. We also help NGOs overcome language, economic, geographic, cultural, knowledge, and access barriers.
We create new ways to access technology, new paths to connect and network, and new means to learn and develop skills ā all so that NGOs can operate at their full potential, more effectively deliver their programs and services, and better achieve their missions.

Hopefully you fall into one of these categories, but if not, you can still benefit from TechSoupās free webinars and resources, which Iāll talk about a little later in the presentation.
Not only does TechSoup have a large catalog of software, but we also offer many hardware options as well.
The best way to explore your hardware options at TechSoup is to visit our āHardware Favoritesā page. The URL is pretty simple to remember and Iāve listed it on this slide. Youāll see our newest products at the top and our most requested laptops, desktops, accessories, and more. http://www.techsoup.org/hardware
I am so excited to tell you about our newest hardware offering, mobile hotspots from Mobile Beacon. As a nonprofit and one of the largest national educational broadband service (EBS) providers in the U.S., we are deeply committed to helping libraries deliver services with a combination of services and products.
You can use Mobile Beacon hotspots for outreach at schools or farmerās markets, to power your bookmobile, or to start a hotspot lending program so patrons can bring the internet home.
Hereās the pricing structure for Mobile Beacon hotspots. Before purchasing the hotspots, youāll want to make sure that your area has Sprint coverage.
The Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI) program at TechSoup provides high-quality, competitively priced desktops, laptops, and other hardware to eligible libraries.
TechSoup has partnered with industry-leading computer refurbishers.
The RCI program offers new and refurbished hardware products from top manufacturers like Dell, HP, and Lenovo. All products are designed to meet the rigorous standards of corporate users, not individual consumers for home use. TechSoup's refurbisher partners guarantee that all hardware is in excellent working condition and has undergone thorough testing, repair, restoration, and cleaning.
Refurbisher partners offer standard and extended warranties on most products and one-year extended warranties and troubleshooting assistance. They accept returns on damaged products, subject to their approval. Computers come with custom images that include preinstalled software, saving organizations both time and money. Most desktop and most laptop computers include a Windows operating system, a Microsoft Office suite, and Microsoft security software preinstalled. Administrative fees include shipping and handling.
You can save on Dell products, including laptops, desktops, servers, printers, and more.
Employees and volunteers at your organization can also save on their own Dell purchases. They can save on Dell laptops, desktops, TVs, gaming systems, accessories, and more.
I also wanted to talk about TechSoup Boost (www.techsoup.org/boost), a fairly new subscription program that bundles together software and hardware. This program letās you sample a number of programs without having to pay that admin fee. Programs included in Boost this quarter are Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements, Tableau Desktop, Tableau Training and Support, Shopify, and more.
Small organizations (annual operating budgets of $500,00 or less) - $79
Midsize (more than $500,00 and less than $2mil) - $99
JourneyEd.com has partnered with TechSoup to make academic discounts on more than 5,000 software and hardware products available toĀ allĀ nonprofits. Most of these discounts were previously only available to students, schools, or others in the educational marketplace.

I put a picture of the SF public libraryās makerspace because JourneyEd is an excellent resource for makerspaces. JourneyEd.com products come from more than 200 vendors and include products like Camtasia, digital cameras, Corel products for video production, 3d printers and filament, charging stations, and so much more.

So letās talk about how to get registered so you can start getting technology from TechSoup
The sign up process is really simple. You first register as an individual ā every TechSoup account has a person and an email address attached to it.
Youāll then be asked to register your organization. Before you sign up, we recommend having your EIN Employer Identification Number or FSCS ID for your library on hand. As you go through the registration process, do not hesitate to contact TechSoup if you have questions or concerns. Our client services team is reachable by phone and by email and youāll have that information available as you go through the process.
Letās talk about how to find products.
There are a few different ways you can look for products on TechSoup.org. You can search by keyword or use our browse dropdown menu.
When you search, youāll not only see relevant products, but youāll also see related articles, webinars, blog posts, forum posts, and more.
You can also search by donor partner, like Adobe for example, and see all of the products we offer donations or discounts on.
And finally, you can browse by solution, like mobile, web design, accounting, and more.
When you find something youāre interested in, you can click on it and youāll be taken to the product page. Here you will find information about the admin fee, system requirements, eligibility requirements, and other important documentation. When youāre ready to buy, you simple place it in your shopping cart and check out when youāre finished shopping.
