ALL ABOUT WEATHERING AND EROSION .. Weathering causes the disintegration of rock near the surface of the earth. Plant and animal life, atmosphere and water are the major causes of weathering. Weathering breaks down and loosens the surface minerals of rock so they can be transported away by agents of erosion such as water, wind and ice. There are two types of weathering: mechanical and chemical.
GEOGRAPHY YEAR 10: WEATHERING. Contains: the definition of weathering, physical or mechanical weathering, freeze-thaw action, onion-skin action, chemical weathering.

S6E5. Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth’s surface is formed.
d. Describe processes that change rocks and the surface of the earth.
Slides on Weathering and Erosion for Irish Junior Cert students. Deals with various types of weathering and Karst landscapes, using the Burren as an example.
Impacts of Weathering and Erosion on Human Activities Hamna_Ahmed
This presentation will tell us about How Different types of Weathering and Erosion have a impact on Human Activities and How they Also effect the environment.

This slides describes the basic concepts of ICT, basics of Email, Emerging Technology and Digital Initiatives in Education. This presentations aligns with the UGC Paper I syllabus.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A review of the growth of the Israel Genealogy Research Association Database Collection for the last 12 months. Our collection is now passed the 3 million mark and still growing. See which archives have contributed the most. See the different types of records we have, and which years have had records added. You can also see what we have for the future.
A workshop hosted by the South African Journal of Science aimed at postgraduate students and early career researchers with little or no experience in writing and publishing journal articles.
This slide is special for master students (MIBS & MIFB) in UUM. Also useful for readers who are interested in the topic of contemporary Islamic banking.
4. Scientific studies claim that earth’s
surface is different from what it is used
to be hundreds of years ago.
5. Different landforms today maybe the remains of larger
structure in the past.
Some may had been higher than before and more
refuged than they are now.
So what causes this CHANGES?
6. Changes could have been caused by
various forces present in nature, such as;
WATER, WIND, HEAT, PRESSURE and
even LIVING THINGS.
7. Weathering- a process by which rock is broken into
pieces by destructive forces.
Two types of weathering:
Mechanical Weathering
Chemical Weathering
8. Mechanical Weathering- caused by natural
forces (earthquakes, landslides & volcanic
eruptions)
Rocks broken down into small pieces called
sediments
9. Chemical Weathering- caused by naturally
occurring acids (flowing water, acid rain,
sulfuric acid)
Exposure to acids may lead the rocks in
changing its properties.
11. Water
The strong current of these
water systems can push boulders
and stones and carry away rocks
and soil along their courses.
Crashing waves can break
rocks off cliffs and way
shorelines.
River, streams and
wave action
12. When carbon dioxide from the air dissolves in rainwater,
it forms carbonic acid in a process called carbonation.
Carbonic acids reacts with minerals, such as iron,
calcium and magnesium.
These compound easily dissolve with water and erode
rocks quickly.
Water
13. Water and temperature is one of the most
important means of weathering.
Frost Weathering- freezing of water in the
cracks of big rocks. This process forces the rocks
to break off.
15. Root wedging- roots entering
small cracks in rocks.
As it grow bigger it wedge apart the
rocks.
Trees
16. can crumble the big
rocks
can exposed the deeply
buried rocks on the
surface.
Animals
17. Effect of Weathering
Very important in the production of soil
Produces LOOSE SOIL (product of
continuous weathering.
Serves as habitat mostly of all living things.
Used for establishment
Soil
18. Excessive weathering results in the
loosening of rocks and soil which are
easily removed and carried away by
natural forces/agents.
Erosion
19. Erosion carries weathered sediments and
eventually deposited and settled in a new place.
Sediments can either be as pebbles, sand, mud
or salt dissolved in water.
Deposition
Missouri River (Mud River)
20. Agents of Erosion
Wind, water, and even animals can transport
eroded materials to a new locations.
(pebbles, sand and dust)
21. Effects of Erosion
Weathering and Erosion are considered as
destructive forces because they can dramatically
change and reshape the land.
Natural activity, but can cause harm to living
things.
