Biological Science In Mary Roach s Packing For Mars
The novel Packing for Mars is a novel written by Mary Roach. She is an author known for her many
books written on the wonders of outer space, as well as the preparation necessary for every astronaut
who wishes to someday be sent off of planet earth. Packing for Mars was published in 2010, with the
intent of having numerous young adults read the novel, along with any adult space enthusiasts who
crave to learn about space, and the life that people have to endure as astronauts. In this novel, it is
stated that the genre is biological science. In my own opinion, this book is more of an informational
text or a documentary rather than biological science. However, the genre of this novel could easily be
perceived as a biography because every test and observational practice was discussed in such
excruciatingly precise detail that the author must have been present to have had the ability to describe
each event so particularly. Personally, I found the author s writing style to be somewhat irritating.
Concerning sentence structure, Mary Roach uses variation in the length of her sentences by ... Show

Personally, my favorite chapter is that which elaborted on the numerous, extensive tests that are done
on astronauts to ensure that they are both physically and mentally able to be in an environment as
dangerous, unpredictable, and isolated as space. I considered this section of the novel to be the most
interesting because of the fact that some of the tests that were done on the astronauts made absolutely
no sense until the author explained their

Essay about The Wedding Guest in The Rime of the Ancient...
The Wedding Guest in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
What does it mean to be wise? Webster s Dictionary defines the word wise as being marked by deep
understanding, keen discerment . Through the telling of the ancient Mariner s tale, the Wedding Guest
became sadder and wiser. He became sad in that he identified himself with the shallow and self
absorbed mariner. However, the mariner changed his ways. The Wedding Guest became wise through
realizing that he himself needed to alter his ways.
As the ancient Mariner described his adventures at sea to the Wedding Guest, the Guest became
saddened because he identified his own selfish ways with those of the Mariner. The mariner told the
Guest that he and his ship mates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Upon the slimy sea. (lines 123 126)
He was taken overy by Life in Death and his sin nature had separated him from God, for The horned
moon, with one bright star / Within the nether tip (line 210 211) is a pagan symbol signifying the
absence of God.
It is only when the Mariner began to bless all living things and saw beyond his own self that the
Albatross fell off. He then felt a connection with nature and God, for Heaven sent down rain that
refreshed the ancient Mariner and angelic spirits led him onward. He needed to change and become
penitent before he could be rid of the guilt. In repenting, he was given a penance of life: whenever his
heart burns within him, he must tell his tale to those who are meant to hear it.
The Wedding Guest became wise and he realized that he needed a change of heart. He, like the
Ancient Mariner, needed to change his ways so that the Albatross s blood all the sin in his life would
be washed away and his soul would be shrieved. And it is only when he begins to consider the
significance and consequences of his actions that he will become closer to God and nature and
develop connections with each. There is hope for the Wedding Guest, for it says, He rose the morrow
morn. (line 625) With the coming of each new day, there also come the hope

Women Try To Manspread For A Week
Does Manspreading Only Attribute to Bad Manners or Several Factors?
Shingo Takatera
California State University, Northridge A personal space belongs to a person; therefore, we feel
uncomfortable when strangers invade our personal space or social distance. The behavior of invading
other s space becomes an issue, especially in a public transportation. The behavior is a manspreading
that is often practiced by male. According to Oxford Living Dictionaries, manspreading refers to the
practice whereby a man, especially one travelling on public transport, adopts a sitting position with his
legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat or seats (year). Since manspreading
can invade other people s personal space especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men who manspread in a limited space are criticized for invading other s space and their rudeness. If
women manspread, do they get the same criticism as men, or would women get other content of
criticism such as gender performance? In the video Women Try to Manspread for a Week , produced
by BuzzFeed, the three women share their experience of manspreading for a week. On the
commentary, the woman with a hat and glasses shares her memory of her childhood about closing her
legs. She has the vivid memories that her mother often reminded her to close her legs. Her mother s
reminder of closing legs suggests the education of the gender performance, since even though I am
disciplined to be polite, I as a man have never been reminded to close my legs from my parents. On
the first day of the experiment, the woman with the hat and glasses feels she is like a monster and
wonders how men can manspread without being conscious. Since this experiment is conducted with a
will of manspreading and caring other s spaces, she might be more self conscious, but if men are not
conscious of manspreading as she says, what factors make her more conscious of manspreading as a
woman? One of the factor of being conscious of manspreading might be attributed to the education
she had from her mother during her girlhood because the discipline of closing legs conflicts with the
behavior of manspreading. On the day three of manspreading, the same woman tells that she is not
enjoying the experiment and feels uncomfortable manspreading because she takes extra spaces in a
train. None of the three women did not get criticism for being masculine during the experiment, yet
the closing legs discipline suggests that manspreading opposes the gender performance of

Gender Stereotypes In Aristotle And Dante
Would you expect to see a boy playing with dolls? Can a boy s favorite color be pink? Can a boy talk
a certain way and not be judged? You re expected to act a certain way regardless of your gender. Being
a boy or a girl, you are never truly yourself. Society will always prevent that. Throughout the course
of the story, Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe, Ari is expected to follow certain
norms and expectations that society holds for him. The author portrays that many gender stereotypes
and norms dwell in society, all of which are expected to be followed regardless of a person s true
desires.

In Laura Esquivel s book Like Water for Chocolate, power dynamics, used throughout the novel, are
seen through the development of the characters complexity. Tita s power struggle in the book is with
her mother, Mama Elena which is the battle between tradition of family and love. Another character s
power struggle would be Pedro, which the choice between forbidden love and forced love. As the
novel progresses, Tita, the main character develops courage. By this, she grows as a person, in which
she becomes more confident in herself. To show this new confidence, Tita tells her mom Here s what I
do with your orders! I m sick of them! I m sick of obeying you! (99). In this scene, Tita is yelling at
Mama Elena for the death of Roberto, her nephew. Tita is blaming her mother for his death because if
her mother had never made Pedro and her sister leave, he would still be alive. As she stands up and
raises her voice to her mother, the book reaches its climax for Tita. Finally, after so many years of her

The Soviet Union, after 69 years if being a country, has done a gaggle of things. From space
achievements to putting the most funding into their military than any other country at the time, these
events all deserve to be remembered in Soviet Union textbooks. However, there are three things that
must be in those Soviet textbooks which would be geographic expansion, military strength, and their
Olympic values. All of these show that communism was capable of producing greatness and
nationalism in their people. Geographic expansion should be included in Soviet Union textbooks
because it shows the determination of their country, their leaders need to protect their country, and it

the United States had only 3,253), shows the world their value of coming out on top (Document E).
The Soviet Union felt it had to spend more of its resources in the military... because they were scared

balance of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in a combined methodologies research
study. It is interesting to note that, one clear practical issue in combining both methods is the issue
whether the combined methodologies are genuinely integrated (Bryman, 2007). Bryman further
argued, to what extent do researchers who combined both methodologies analyse, interpret and write

Moreover, when combining both methods often led to the issue of each qualitative and quantitative

underutilising the data collected. Not being able to integrate both methods would then make any
researcher not being able to make most of the data that have been collected. Additionally, this is
supported by Borkan (2011), where he suggested that different audiences, reviewers and journals for

3) Capital shares and enjoyment shares:
Enjoyment shares are the shares whose value was consumed. The capital shares are those whose value
was not consumed.
Consumption means returning the value of shares to shareholders before the company dissolution. In
principle, this return should not happen because the company member has the right to stay in it.
However the consumption of shares seems necessary in certain cases. If the company property, for
instance, decays with the passage of time such as mines and quarries. These companies consume
shares during their life so that shareholders don t find themselves unable to retrieve their share value
upon termination of the company.
Often, share consumption is made through assigning a part of profit each year to consume a part of
shares by draw. The shareholder whose share was consumed receive the nominal value as well as an
enjoyment share granting him a right to company profit and a right to vote in the general assembly.
4) Ordinary shares and preference shares:
In principle, shares are of equal value and they grant shareholder equal rights. The company statute

Biological Compounds Of Marine Organisms Essay
Biologically active compounds found in marine organisms have been extremely useful when
combating again human immunodeficiency virus. One compound in particular which is found in
sponges, Papuamide A, has been reported to have cytoprotective activity against HIV 1 in vitro. There
are many other representatives that can be found in the same class as Papuamide A; however, due to
the slight change in their structure, the way they effect HIV is different. Papuamide A exhibits a potent
inhibitory effect on the infection of T Lymphoblastoid cells by HIV and has been able to combat
against drug resistant HIV strains.
Introduction. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV 1) has infected over 33.2 million people
world wide to date [9]. There is a plethora of new and upcoming drugs that are being used to combat
against human immunodeficiency virus. Although effective, the drugs that are being used to combat
against HIV 1 have also been known to cause resistance, adverse effects and toxicity to the
mitochondria [3]. HIV 1 is a retrovirus that belongs to a subfamily of retroviruses called lentiviruses
[8]. HIV 1 causes a slow depletion of the immune system and is considered a slow degenerative
disease. New drugs that combat against HIV 1 entering into different cells has raised interest due to
the fact that these new drugs are able to work against drug resistant viruses that can infect the cell.

The two questions identified above cannot be adequately answered alone without one influencing the

public event. However, after months of predictions of a too close to call contest, Bush won nationwide
balloting making him the 15th president elected to a second term and the first to win both a majority

Those who opposed the president did so because of his decision to go to war in Iraq and how it was

Voter turnout hit record highs nationally, and the total for Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney was
higher than any previous presidential ticket. Some of the greatest percentage gains over 2000 came in
13 states that were the battleground in the presidential election. Millions of dollars were spent on TV
ads and voter mobilization. Interestingly, Democratic strategists had predicted that turnout at those
levels would assure victory. But Democratic voter drives were matched in large part by Republicans,
particularly religious conservatives.
Voters conveyed a sense of urgency about Iraq, and their top priority for President Bush to tackle after
his re election. Iraq was followed by terrorism among voters leading concerns. Voters also conveyed
they want the President to cut the deficit and balance the budget rather than reducing taxes.
After a campaign dominated by discussion of Iraq and terrorism, national security issues were at the

also concerned about quot;moral values quot;. This election confirmed that we are a divided nation,

Drunk Driving Is More Precious Than Anything Else
Drunk Driving
Denis Pichardo
Miami Dade College
Drunk Driving
Life is more precious than anything else, and everybody would love to live to the fullest. In life, there
are decisions that people make that can shorten their lives. Though it s argued that life is under God s
control, there is no doubt that there exist self inflicted injuries that shorten life on earth. The decisions
people make therefore have dire consequences on their life. To drink and drive is an example of such
courageous decisions with profound effects in people s life. The ultimate price for drunk driving is an
accident, and the legal consequence is jail. It s illegal to drink and drive even though people still
engage in the act (Carpenter, 2004). This, therefore, calls for more stringent and tougher rules to help
curb the habit. There is the need to review the current laws and regulations to check on the rate of
drunken driving failure to which more lives will be lost at an unexpected time.
There are several reasons as to why drunk driving should not be encouraged. First and foremost, when
one is under the influence of alcohol, their ability to make a sound judgment decreases. One becomes
subconscious, and this limits the capacity to think and act when required. The ultimate consequence is
that the driver is likely to lose control of the vehicle and when that happens, loss of lives, injuries, and
loss of property will be inevitable. The alcohol makes drivers unpredictable with regards to decision

The earthquake which took place on March 11, 20111 in the Tohuku District, Japan triggered a

A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker s Life Essay examples
A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker s Life
Dorothy Rothschild, later to become the famous writer Dorothy Parker, was born on August 22, 1893
to J. Henry Rothschild and Eliza A (Marston) Rothschild in West End, New Jersey. Parker s father, Mr.
Rothschild, was a Jewish business man while Mrs. Rothschild, in contrast, was of Scottish descent.
Parker was the youngest of four; her only sister Helen was 12 and her two brothers, Harold and
Bertram, were aged 9 and 6, respectively. Just before her fifth birthday, Dorothy s mother became very
ill and died on July 20, 1897. Three years later in 1900, Mr. Rothschild remarried to a 48 year old

Her husband, Eddie, served in the armed forces and after being stationed at various bases in the US, he
was shipped off to war and also had to remain after the war for the occupation in Europe. Another big
step in Dorothy s career occurred shortly soon after, she replaced P.G. Wodehouse as a drama reviewer
for Vanity Fair, the sister magazine of Vogue. Because of their long separation and both developing
into different people, when Eddie returned from the war things were not the same. However, they
stayed together and Dorothy continued to publish several works as well as pursuing an active role in
the literary social scene of New York City. In the end though, after two failed suicide attempts and the
continuation of her gaining a greater sense of self and knowledge, Dorothy eventually divorced Eddie

Financial Advertising in India
INSURANCE SECTOR
ADVERTISING
Insurance ads in india have come a long way in the last three decades. Be it television commercials,
print ads, or bill boards. The change is remarkably noticeable. Earlier most of the advertising in this
sector tended to play crudely on our consistent fear of the future and the unknown. A case in point
being the television advertisement of firms like United India Assurance, National Insurance and
Oriental Insurance. All the aforementioned companies provided insurance policies for contingencies
like fire, robbery and natural disasters. Television commercials of that time tended to be rawly cooked
scripts put together in the doors of hard sell copy. All of them invariably, toyed with our fear factor. In

One aspect that remained constant throughout were the seasonal ads spread across all major Indian
festivals. The overall image that SBI has managed to retain is that of a surly wisecrack devoid of a
human face. Specific regions meant ads in the local language or dialect even though the sensibilities of
the visual would be more or less pan Indian. Accordingly the advertising was pretty much stagnant
upto the mid 90 s when banks all over the world suddenly started touting their wider array of services.
The creatives were often compromised in order to make for a greater resonance with the local
sensibilities involved. Regionally affiliated branches of the bank like State Bank of Patiala, State Bank
of Maharashtra, State Bank of Indore etc sparsely took out any ads of their own and even the ones
released were very diminutive.
The upheaval started around the mid 90 s when State Bank of India started come out with a spate of
well thought and visually compact ads. One of them, for instance had a picture of a stick shielding a
golden egg from being crushed by a brick with the tagline Before You attached to it. The message was
stark and well crafted. This was followed by a phase where State Bank of India started to advertise its
wide range of services across the country.
The positional leverage of the Surprisingly SBI campaign was the fact that the bank had singularly the

Some weeks ago, I was video chatting with my friends off my iPhone. When my grandma walked in,
she stared at me. She seemed amazed at the fact that a tiny, 4 inch device is capable of doing
marvelous things, such as letting me video chat with anyone at any given moment. To a teenager now,
being able to do things such as video chat is normal. To people like my grandma, it s revolutionary.
Currently I have an iPhone 5, an Xbox 360, and a laptop; I am a strong believer that communication is

It s hard to believe how drastic the cell phone has evolved. It s hard to believe that when the first cell

Free College Debate Analysis
Throughout the 2016 presidential debate, the issue of free college has been a discussion between the
democratic candidates. This is a very controversial topic. Senator Bernie Sanders plans on eliminating
tuition fees at public colleges, and Hilary Clinton favors increasing student aid. Attending a university
is a privilege which many are not able to afford. Many of my friends were not able to go to college
because of the hefty price tags that come along with higher education.
Every year the tuition of attending a university grows significantly. Those who are not able to pay the
fees, decided on another alternative which is to go straight to work after high school or enroll in the
military. In theory, free college seems like a magnificent idea because people from both part of the
spectrum would receive aid to attend the university. For millions of families, their children would be
able to obtain a college degree and live a better financial life. However, this policy only applies to
public schools. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students will cut class more frequently, tests will not be important because at the end of day, if they
fail a class, the money will not be coming out of their pockets. This would be the similar case for
college students. Many students would forgo college to pursue another passion. If college is free,
students will not value their education. If there is a free college, there will be an abundance of highly
qualified individuals working at jobs that will not require a degree. If the job market is competitive as
it is, imagine if everyone had a bachelor s degree? Now a days, even a bachelor s degree does not
guarantee a job, therefore students are obtaining master and doctoral degrees. Many might argue that

Introduction
To see a black man and a white woman walking down the street holding hands used to be unheard of.
It was a relationship that, for the few who engaged in it, was kept as quiet as possible. During the
fifties and sixties, interracial dating was not socially acceptable and there were repercussions for those
who were involved in such behaviors because various laws, such as the Jim Crow laws, which kept the
different races/ethnicities separate and it was seen as extremely socially deviant to go against these
rules. Between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, there have been theoretical proposals for the existence of other predictors of attitudes
and actions, which may be relevant to the current research. Recent studies have found that controlling
for other variables, significant predictors of opposition to a law banning interracial marriage include
being non white, being younger, holding a liberal ideology, identifying as a democrat, having greater
income, having a greater level of education, being less religious, and living outside of the South
(Haider Markel and Joslyn 2005). For some of these predictors, theoretical explanations have been
proposed. Various researchers have conducted investigations into the many aspects of this type of
relationship and have concluded that an increase in interracial marriages has occurred. This increase
may be the result of numerous factors, including the Supreme Court lifting of the legal restrictions on
racial intermarriage in 1967, the decrease in White prejudice against Blacks, and the narrowing of the
racial gap in education, income, and occupation (Kalmijn 1993). However, Kalmijn (1993) states that
although these factors may have resulted in an increase in interracial marriages, other factors may
counter this effect. For instance, there has been an increase in Black unemployment, a rise in the racial
gap of college enrollment, and part of

How To Respond To Stereotypes In A Square
Pressed up against people, strangers no less, and moving as if you are one body in 80 degree heat with

Russian Vladimir Putin Addressed The World Concerning The...
March 18, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the world regarding the annexation of
Crimea. A referendum that took place only days before resulted in an 82% turnout rate, with over 90%
of the ballots casting in favor of Crimea s reunification with Russia ( History: What does Crimea,
2014). Many questioned the reasoning behind Russia s sudden need to reestablish its hold on Crimea;
legally a Ukrainian territory. The Russian Ukrainian relationship dates back to the ninth to the mid
thirteenth century in the Eastern Slavic state of Kievan Rus; an area that expanded from the Baltic to
the Black Sea (Bates, 2014). The two countries have been linked to each other for centuries; they

By losing Ukraine to its independence, Russia lost thousands of armed forces and military equipment;
this coupled with the effect the separation had on Russia s trade agreements with Europe meant that
Russia was left weak, and economically unstable. It was one of the biggest partitioned nations in the
world. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in December of 1991, Russia was left in a fragile state,
especially after getting accustomed to being treated as a world superpower; its sphere of influence
significantly declined. Russians see this as a time of economic and political instability leaving them
vulnerable to the West (Larrabee, 2010), one of its biggest reservations being the potential for a
Western stronghold along its international border. Because of its weakened state, much of Russia s
distress towards Western policies was noticeably dismissed.
Despite having unwaveringly opposed NATO s expansion to include previously Russian territories
such as Ukraine and Georgia (Mearsheimer, 2014), in the mid 1990s, the Clinton administration
openly disregarded Russia s concerns by pushing for NATO s expansion towards previous members of
the Soviet Union. By 2004, Latvia, Romania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary and many more were admitted

Anthropomorphism in Greek Myth Essay
Paper #1: The role of anthropomorphism in Greek mythology.
God created man in his image, and man, being a gentleman, returned the compliment.
Mark Twain
In his beginning, man was part of nature. He knew little about the causes of natural phenomenon and
certainly knew of no way to control them. This is perhaps the reason for his creation of ritual and later
religion. As man evolved he began to consider the possibilities of gaining some type of control over
his environment. If nature was simply a random set of events ruled only by chaos than this wouldn t
be possible. However, if something or better yet someone was in control, one could acquire what they
desired by pleasing this entity. In the beginning, according to some ... Show more content on

It is obvious therefore that there are, as always seems to be the case, exceptions; however in most
cases the gods are seen as similar to man s image. Aside form the human form, gods speak the same
language as the Greeks and use the same organs to do so, in other words, no telepathy. While they are
able in some cases to reproduce asexually, sexual reproduction seems to be the more often used
method. The asexual reproduction of Gaea produced Uranus, the Mountains, and Pontus. Later her
sexual reproduction with Uranus produced numerous offspring. While the use of sexual reproduction
was human like (obviously not exclusive to humans but still human like), the use of alternative
reproduction was represented in the myths. An example of such an alternative would be the
conception of the Giants and Erinyes by Gaea when the blood of Uranus fell onto her. While the
Greeks seem to have known that human reproduction was related to the sperm entering the woman,
they also seem to think the Gods had ways to bypass this requirement. Going along with this
observation of sperm into woman, they Greeks recognized the woman as the vessel in which life
developed, whether she attributed to this life s origination is another question. However there are some
exceptions to this such as when Zeus eats his pregnant wife, thus becoming the

culture what it is in America has been built through commercialization. The ability to sell the main

Today in the United States a person would be hard pressed to fined a movie showing in theaters that

that Lucas, who once set out to make his independence, was now becoming his own powerful self.
The thing he had set out for in writing Star Wars was to have freedom to write. Freedom from the big
guns of Hollywood. Now Lucas himself had become one of those big guns that controlled all the

Essay On Thomas Jefferson A Hypocrite
Is Thomas Jefferson a Hypocrite or Not? After writing the Declaration of Independence, and saying
All men are created equal, Jefferson continued to own slaves of his own. Before, and after writing the
Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson said many cruel and offensive things to describe a
runaway slave. He is greatly addicted to drink, and when drunk is insolent and disorderly. (Slavery, 1)
Following his rude and offensive descriptions, he offered a reward for the one to find the missing
slave. Jefferson is seen to be a big hypocrite to many and in many ways, by the choices he did not take
when he should have. When Jefferson was making the poster that was offering a reward for the
runaway slave, he should have thought it through, and put himself in the slaves spot, before trying to
say malicious and irrelevant things about them. Would Jefferson have wanted to be treated like those
slaves were? Would Jefferson have ran away, if he was that slave? Many thought that Jefferson did not
try to stop slavery, because he might have had sexual intercourse with some of his slaves. Would that

Value Of Life In Thornton Wilder s Our Town
Thornton Wilder s Our Town showed us that we should embrace all the little moments in life, no
matter how insignificant it may seem at the time. Our small, everyday lives are part of the bigger
universe. We often overlook our daily routine and take it for granted. However, our existence here on
earth leaves a mark on those around us. They are important to us and the people around us. That is
why we should cherish and celebrate the life we currently have. As we go through life, we grow up,
get married, and eventually reach the end of our journey and die. During our lifetime, we should savor
the littlest moments that occur in our everyday lives. However, while we are to cherish the smallest

In Our Town, the dead do not turn their heads or their eyes to right or lefty but they sit in a quiet
without stiffness. When they speak their tone is matter of fact, without sentimentality and, above all,

day of judgement, we will be judged for our deeds and either be sent home to heaven or thrown into
the lake of fire. As seen in the play, the dead are simply sitting in their allotted spot representing their

Finding Self-Identity In This Be The Verse
Discovering self identity is about how an individual figures out their qualities, beliefs, values and
morals in society. The influences an individual has from family, the pressure to conform to social
expectations, displayed by social media and the gender stereotypes, play a major role for a young
adult discovering their self identity. Young adults are struggling to find their self identity, as they
believe they need to conform to society s expectations to fit in . (Cherry, 2014, para 1). Young adults
are also struggling to find their self identity, as gender identification associated with social traits,

Abortion, Interest Groups and Policy Development
I. INTRODUCTION In contemporary America it can be argued that nothing is more contentious and
controversial of an issue than abortion. From the vehement pro life movement to the impassioned pro
choice coalition, this policy issue is one that has become increasingly important in our society. This
debate has raised important questions regarding the value of human life, at what stage of development
does a fetus have it s constitutionally ensured rights take hold over that of the mother and at what
stage can a state start regulating abortions. Interest groups have become integral in the development of
policies that give women the right to have an abortion and some that restrict access to the procedure.
Legislators on both the federal and state level have been struggling for power over this issue and have
been fighting over who has jurisdiction over this area of public policy. The Supreme Court has ruled in
favor of abortion access while state governments have attempted to mandate transvaginal ultrasounds
and place safety restrictions that cause clinics to close and the debate has raised questions about the
moral foundations of America and it s citizens. Behind the scenes of all of this chaos none of these
entities are fully in control because interest groups are motivating them to behave in ways they may
not even realize. The abortion debate has gone so much further than just

happening in America in the 1980 s thus the author draws his inspiration from real world to create a
captivating novel.From the title of the book, the writer hints on what to expect inside the book;
watchmen. Watchmen refers to a group of super heroes believed to have super human powers that
enable them to do supernatural things. One of the superheroes actually possesses super human powers
which give his country America superiority over other rival countries. The goal of the writer is to unite
the region and stop hostility among nations using the superheroes. Through the death of some
members of the gang of superheroes, the vigilante group is forced to reunite and find the murderer
whom normal police men are unable to find. The writer uses one of the members of ... Show more

He also went ahead to create mysterious creatures from his lab and released them to cause massive
destruction and deaths in New York. In the meantime other gang members are still trying to unravel
the mysterious murders of their own. The probe leads Nite Owl and Rorschach to discover that one of
their own members, Veidt, was behind in the mysterious deaths (Moore 2014). Veidt admits to the
accusation but tries to justify his action by explaining his plan to stop the impending nuclear war
between America and Soviet Union. Through his lab creations he was able to fake alien invasion in
New York thus diverting the attention of the people towards the new entry. Rorschach was not willing
to take part in the plan and threatened to expose Veidt. Just then Manhattan returned to earth and
stopped Rorschach from exposing Veidt thus the people are made to believe there is an alien invasion
and in the end unite against the perceived common enemy; the

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Research Paper
Dr. Seuss, written many books such as Green Eggs and Ham and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has
portrayed many morals that can be understood. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is How the Grinch Stole
Christmas. It is my favorite book because it tells a tale about how the mischievous Grinch (who hates
Christmas) plots to steal Christmas from the Whos. At the end of the book the Grinch realizes that
there is more to Christmas then presents. It is also my favorite book because it teaches me that you
don t need presents to celebrate Christmas. You can still celebrate Christmas with or without presents.
My favorite character from any Dr. Seuss book is Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole
Christmas. She is my favorite character because she became friends

Textual Analysis Of Komgi
Given Komugi s character design and overall purpose in the anime in addition to the mental and
language representations addressed previously, Komugi has many connotations placed upon her. Her
character continues to reinforce that unusual embodiments are inherently inferior (Garland Thomson,
7), because both herself and the ways others treat her continue to emphasize that she is not worth
much of anything aside from her Gungi skills. However, Komugi is also a significant source for
intersectionality. Utilizing feminist theory, individuals can see that she is already depicted as weaker,
which could be assumed that this is done because she is portrayed as female. Then, in addition to this,
she is weakened even more by her disability. This follows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Komugi comes across as a character that is not someone that many would relate to. Often times, even
if there is a disabled individual portrayed in media they are often they are written not as someone to
relate to, but to represent some other, necessary plot element. Because of this, disabled individuals are
portrayed As either less or more than human [...] blessed or damned, but never quite human (Sandell et
al., 5 6). In doing so, individuals who view these medias can successfully remove themselves from

Essay on MADD, A Driving Force for Change
M.A.D.D. is a political interest group for all mothers against drunk driving. It was specifically created
for mothers of kids who have fallen victim to drunk drivers, whether it be in injury or in death.
Founded on September 5th 1980, M.A.D.D. has made a huge impact on the government today and an
even bigger impact on society. The idea of M.A.D.D. was first introduced by a mother, Candice
Lightner, who lost her thirteen year old daughter in a car accident killed by an intoxicated driver. She
took action and initiative after the loss of her daughter to help prevent drunk driving accidents so other
parents wouldn t have to go through the grief of the loss of a loved one, especially their son or
daughter. Whether it be spreading awareness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of their efforts were supported and encouraged by the government, government corporations,
educators, the public and the media. The mothers mission statement was also officially changed in
1999 in order to put focus on preventing underage drinking. The mission of Mothers Against Drunk
Driving is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage
drinking was then the new mission of M.A.D.D. and is still used to this day. In the year 2000,
M.A.D.D. was nationally recognized for supporting the law that the legal limit of driving while
intoxicated should be lowered from .10 to .08. The law was passed in 2005 by congress all throughout
the United States, making the chance of an intoxicated person driving and injuring themselves or
others much lower. Also, as the result of lobbying and M.A.D.D. s efforts in changing the law, the
state of California also passed a law that enhanced the penalties and fines for re offenses of DUI
charges as well as prevented minors from purchasing alcohol. Five different bills have been signed to
add weight to the DUI charges, as well as prevent minors from obtaining fake ID s by cracking down
on security measures and rules in liquor stores. In the state of Rhode Island, M.A.D.D. is spreading the
petition to encourage the police to enforce sobriety checkpoints. They argue that the checkpoints are a

mechanisms Addiction Reviews the strong relationship between bipolar and substance use disorder
Mechanisms and treatment implications Bipolar disorder and substance use disorders commonly occur
in the same individual. In fact, bipolar disorder has a higher prevalence of substance use disorders
than any other psychiatric illness. Individuals with both disorders have a more severe course of bipolar
disorder, including earlier onset, more frequent episodes, and more complications, including anxiety
and stress related disorders, aggressive behavior, legal problems, and suicide. Bipolar and substance
use disorders share common mechanisms, including impulsivity, poor modulation of motivation and
responses to rewarding stimuli, and susceptibility to behavioral sensitization. Studies of potential
treatments for bipolar substance use disorder have paid scant attention to the combined disorders. The
most promising treatment strategies are those that address their shared mechanisms. Keywords:
bipolar disorder; alcohol related disorders; substance related disorders; recurrence; impulsive
behavior; behavioral sensitization; comorbidity Introduction Substance abuse is prominent in bipolar
disorder, and bipolar disorder may be equally common in substance abuse : bipolar disorder may be
the most common non substance related Axis I condition in patients with substance related disorders.
This association raises the questions of mechanisms that underlie this relationship and effective

Emily Dickinson 409 Analysis
Emily Dickinson is one of the most influential figures in American literature. Her unusual character
and style has made her become one of America s best and most original poets of all time. She
composed almost 1800 poems, but fewer than a dozen were published in her lifetime. In her poems,
she expresses her feelings about identity, religion, nature, love, and death. Her poems tell us a lot
about her lifestyle, which was very private and reserved from society. In poems 260 and 409 it talks
about the theme of identity. Although they consist of the same theme, there are differences in meaning,
tone, and narration.
Emily Dickinson demonstrates how identity is something she envies as reflected in poem 260. This
poem talks about how an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poem 409 is about a soul that searches for their place in society. The first stanza mentions how the
soul searches for where it belongs and it does not consider anyone else but itself, therefore we should
not expect too much. The middle stanza Unmoved she notes the chariots pausing at her low gate
unmoved an emperor be kneeling Opon her mat, emphasize the Soul s rigid attitude toward anyone
trying to enter into her Society; even chariots, even an emperor, cannot persuade her. The third stanza

demonstrates how she easily settles on one single person unhesitatingly shuts out everyone else.
Another person may these 3 stanzas as the story of as a selfish soul however, we can not assume their
character without a fully detailed story of its journey to finding its place. The author definitely made it
clear that she understood the different ways that an individual figure themselves out. The tone of the
poem is a bit more mysterious and intimidating in some ways and definitely shows the value of
individuality and identity together.
Identity is a common theme in both poems that are discussed above. Although this is the case, the way
that identity is conveyed is completely different. Poem 290 takes a playful tone whereas the tone of
poem 409 is quieter, imposing,

Story Of The Hour And The Interlopers Essay
The comparison of The Interlopers, and Story of the Hour is quite easy, considering the two stories
only have a couple things in common. The Interlopers, is about two men whose families hate each
other and they have hated each other for centuries. the two men wonder upon each other one night and
are furious that they re on each others land. In the midst of arguing lightening strikes a tree, and traps
both of them under it. They call for help for hours only to gain attention of the things they wanted the
least, Wolves. Story of the Hour, is about a woman who dies from joy when she finds out her husband
has died. Her husbands best friend heard that he was on a train that had crashed, But both the audeince
and the woman don t know that he is alive until the end of the story, in which it is too late the ... Show

thought that her husband had died and that she would be free again. However the woman did have
heart troubles to begin with, she gave herself a heart attack just by over joy. She wasn t happy at first
as told in paragraph three, She sat with her head thrown back upon the cushion of the chair, quite

the two stories are great, one is about someone dying from emotions, the other, two people die from

I Could Never Understand Living Under Tyrannies Of The Old...

Final Essay
Literature
Prof. H Zameni
Little Hope
I could never understand living under tyrannies of the old world. The best we can do is learn from
those who were there. Literature has been called the reflection of human experience and to many,
including my self; it can be a window peering into another age.
Chimney sweeps in the old United Kingdom used to be teams of young boys sold into the profession
usually to settle a debt and without work regulations; these children would suffer harsh conditions
with seemingly no end in sight, minus the permanent solution. It is this struggle we can peer into when
reading William Blake s poem, The Chimney Sweeper. A young boy shows his hope for brighter days
through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What would life be like outside the constant beating and rigid order of conduct?
Author, Kate Chopin, beautifully illustrates the thought process of such a woman. Though faced with
a new and challenging reality, the truth remains, life goes on. Freedom will come for those who escape
their captors and at first where they may panic soon another feeling takes hold. Small and persisting
until unavoidable, in an overwhelming fashion the protagonist finds freedom and we as readers are
awakened to the possibility of where we may need or have had freedom. The Story of an Hour,
properly named, is an amazing example of irony. As soon as the reader is led to believe this newfound
reality for the dear protagonist, she is killed at the stroke of a heart attack. Cause of death: too good to
be true. Her husband stands in the doorway unaware he was even suspected to have been in the
horrible train accident that supposedly took his life.
With this story Chopin has established a dark tone I find similar to the work of Blake. They both show
amazing examples of the power of hope and the elasticity of the human spirit. In The Chimney
Sweeper, a young boy has a hard time coming to terms with having to cut his hair. He doesn t quite
have the mental age for this kind of decision and it is made for him that he must cut his hair to [avoid
infestation and vermin.] (Gordon, Todd. Section 7.) The narrator tells young Tom

Death Penalty Sentencing and the Criminal Justice System
Jpz777 04/15/2013 Order # 2091084 An examination of death penalty sentencing procedures within
the American criminal justice system suggests that the legal and moral authority to execute
condemned criminals granted to a government has been tested time and time again, only to be
reaffirmed by the Supreme Court. While the 1960 s saw a series of failed attempts to ban the practice,
launched by death penalty abolitionist groups firm in their belief that murder can never be justified, it
was not until 1972 that a majority of Supreme Court justices ruled to prohibit state mandated
executions. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, a national non profit organization
dedicated to providing a forum for informed discussion regarding capital punishment, the issue of
arbitrariness of the death penalty was brought before the Supreme Court in 1972 in Furman v.
Georgia, Jackson v. Georgia, and Branch v. Texas (known collectively as the landmark case Furman v.
Georgia (408 U.S. 238)) (DPIC, 2013). While the court previously ruled in Crampton v. Ohio and
McGautha v. California that the application of capital punishment did not result in arbitrary and
capricious sentencing, the 1972 Furman case challenged the Eight Amendment, whereas the
McGautha case cited the Fourteenth Amendment s due process provision. The choice to attack the
cruel and unusual punishment clause of the Eighth Amedment, while preserving the original arbitrary
and capricious sentencing argument, proved

Pathophysiology Of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases, found in about 1 3% of the
world general population (Szepietowski and Reich 2016).
The pathogenesis of psoriasis is still not fully elucidated. However, it is supposed that psoriasis is an
immunological disease with a strong genetic background which is influenced by some environmental
triggers, like infections (mainly streptococci), drugs (e.g. lithium, beta blockers), emotional stress and
smoking. All these parameters lead in predisposed individuals to cutaneous inflammation, accelerated
turnover and hyperproliferation of keratinocytes which are all important for skin lesion development
(Boehncke and Schön, 2015).
Psoriasis may occur at any age, but usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These substances show a number of immunomodulatory properties like activation of dendritic cells,
lymphocytes, macrophages and neutrophils, stimulation of keratinocyte hyperproliferation,
degranulation of dermal mast cells, stimulation of angiogenesis and modulation of the expression of
adhesion molecules on the endothelial cells (Saraceno et al., 2006).
Treatment of pruritus in patients with psoriasis should be directed towards the resolution of skin
lesions, as disease remission usually is linked with pruritus relief. To date there is no single antipruritic
therapy dedicated specifically to treating itch in psoriasis (Szepietowski and Reich 2016).
Usually, some relief is provided by proper skin moisturizing with emollients and moisturizers;
however, only a minority of psoriatic patients (less than 20%) considered them as highly effective
(Szepietowski et al. 2002; Dawn and Yosipovitch

Importance of Religion in A Lesson Before You Die
A Fatalistic Predisposition before Settling In
In an 1973 interview conducted by Forrest Ingraham and Barbara Steinberg, Ernest J. Gaines states
that although he is not devoutly religious, it is his belief that for you to survive, you must have
something greater than what you are, whether it s religion or communism, or capitalism or something
else, but it must be something above what you are (Gaines and Lowe 52). When applied to the narrator
of his subsequent work, A Lesson Before Dying, it would seem that this principle is reflected in the
one thing Grant Wiggins initially holds above himself. I refer, of course, to Grant s anticipation of the
day that he will leave Bayonne in order to start a new life elsewhere, ideally in the company ... Show

However, as Grant recounts the events of the trial in a degree of detail that suggests more than mere
inference, this issue becomes more ambiguous. From Grant s description of his aunt and Miss Emma s
thoughts, perceptions and behavior in the courtroom, to his exacting portrayal of Jefferson s story,
including details as specific as the type of wine, Apple White (Gaines 4), which prompts the shooting,
as recounted by Jefferson through Grant in third person, to the roughly two pages of direct quotation
that present the defense s closing arguments, we are left with such a complete account of the trial that
it is virtually impossible to believe Grant is not embellishing upon his own assumptions. Yet with the
closing lines of this chapter, Death by electrocution. The governor would set the date (Gaines 9), the
credibility of Grant s implicit prediction is authenticated, leaving the reader with the impression that
since the conclusion implied at the beginning is valid, and since the premises seem plausible, that
these premises must at least be grounded in a degree of truth. From the outset, the marked tendency
for Grant s prognostications to ultimately transpire

  • 2. Biological Science In Mary Roach s Packing For Mars The novel Packing for Mars is a novel written by Mary Roach. She is an author known for her many books written on the wonders of outer space, as well as the preparation necessary for every astronaut who wishes to someday be sent off of planet earth. Packing for Mars was published in 2010, with the intent of having numerous young adults read the novel, along with any adult space enthusiasts who crave to learn about space, and the life that people have to endure as astronauts. In this novel, it is stated that the genre is biological science. In my own opinion, this book is more of an informational text or a documentary rather than biological science. However, the genre of this novel could easily be perceived as a biography because every test and observational practice was discussed in such excruciatingly precise detail that the author must have been present to have had the ability to describe each event so particularly. Personally, I found the author s writing style to be somewhat irritating. Concerning sentence structure, Mary Roach uses variation in the length of her sentences by ... Webster s Dictionary defines the word wise as being marked by deep understanding, keen discerment . Through the telling of the ancient Mariner s tale, the Wedding Guest became sadder and wiser. He became sad in that he identified himself with the shallow and self absorbed mariner. However, the mariner changed his ways. The Wedding Guest became wise through realizing that he himself needed to alter his ways. As the ancient Mariner described his adventures at sea to the Wedding Guest, the Guest became saddened because he identified his own selfish ways with those of the Mariner. It is only when the Mariner began to bless all living things and saw beyond his own self that the Albatross fell off. He then felt a connection with nature and God, for Heaven sent down rain that refreshed the ancient Mariner and angelic spirits led him onward. He needed to change and become penitent before he could be rid of the guilt. In repenting, he was given a penance of life: whenever his heart burns within him, he must tell his tale to those who are meant to hear it. The Wedding Guest became wise and he realized that he needed a change of heart. He, like the Ancient Mariner, needed to change his ways so that the Albatross s blood all the sin in his life would be washed away and his soul would be shrieved. And it is only when he begins to consider the significance and consequences of his actions that he will become closer to God and nature and develop connections with each. There is hope for the Wedding Guest, for it says, He rose the morrow morn. (line 625) With the coming of each new day, there also come the hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Women Try To Manspread For A Week Does Manspreading Only Attribute to Bad Manners or Several Factors? Shingo Takatera California State University, Northridge A personal space belongs to a person; therefore, we feel uncomfortable when strangers invade our personal space or social distance. The behavior of invading other s space becomes an issue, especially in a public transportation. The behavior is a manspreading that is often practiced by male. According to Oxford Living Dictionaries, manspreading refers to the practice whereby a man, especially one travelling on public transport, adopts a sitting position with his legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat or seats (year). Men who manspread in a limited space are criticized for invading other s space and their rudeness. If women manspread, do they get the same criticism as men, or would women get other content of criticism such as gender performance? In the video Women Try to Manspread for a Week , produced by BuzzFeed, the three women share their experience of manspreading for a week. On the commentary, the woman with a hat and glasses shares her memory of her childhood about closing her legs. She has the vivid memories that her mother often reminded her to close her legs. Her mother s reminder of closing legs suggests the education of the gender performance, since even though I am disciplined to be polite, I as a man have never been reminded to close my legs from my parents. On the first day of the experiment, the woman with the hat and glasses feels she is like a monster and wonders how men can manspread without being conscious. Since this experiment is conducted with a will of manspreading and caring other s spaces, she might be more self conscious, but if men are not conscious of manspreading as she says, what factors make her more conscious of manspreading as a woman? One of the factor of being conscious of manspreading might be attributed to the education she had from her mother during her girlhood because the discipline of closing legs conflicts with the behavior of manspreading. On the day three of manspreading, the same woman tells that she is not enjoying the experiment and feels uncomfortable manspreading because she takes extra spaces in a train. None of the three women did not get criticism for being masculine during the experiment, yet the closing legs discipline suggests that manspreading opposes the gender performance of ... Hence, it is important to have the balance of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in a combined methodologies research study. It is interesting to note that, one clear practical issue in combining both methods is the issue whether the combined methodologies are genuinely integrated (Bryman, 2007). Bryman further argued, to what extent do researchers who combined both methodologies analyse, interpret and write up their research in a way that both qualitative and quantitative components are mutually integrated. Moreover, when combining both methods often led to the issue of each qualitative and quantitative method are treated as separate domains instead of being treated as one method. Bryman (2007) further extent the issue of not genuinely integrated to the fact that, combined methods may lead to underutilising the data collected. Not being able to integrate both methods would then make any researcher not being able to make most of the data that have been collected. Additionally, this is supported by Borkan (2011), where he suggested that different audiences, reviewers and journals for qualitative and quantitative methods would cause researcher to produce result in equal ways of reporting it and thus affect the capacity of not making most of the data collected. • 17. Drunk Driving Is More Precious Than Anything Else Drunk Driving Denis Pichardo Miami Dade College Drunk Driving Life is more precious than anything else, and everybody would love to live to the fullest. In life, there are decisions that people make that can shorten their lives. Though it s argued that life is under God s control, there is no doubt that there exist self inflicted injuries that shorten life on earth. The decisions people make therefore have dire consequences on their life. To drink and drive is an example of such courageous decisions with profound effects in people s life. The ultimate price for drunk driving is an accident, and the legal consequence is jail. It s illegal to drink and drive even though people still engage in the act (Carpenter, 2004). This, therefore, calls for more stringent and tougher rules to help curb the habit. There is the need to review the current laws and regulations to check on the rate of drunken driving failure to which more lives will be lost at an unexpected time. There are several reasons as to why drunk driving should not be encouraged. First and foremost, when one is under the influence of alcohol, their ability to make a sound judgment decreases. One becomes subconscious, and this limits the capacity to think and act when required. The ultimate consequence is that the driver is likely to lose control of the vehicle and when that happens, loss of lives, injuries, and loss of property will be inevitable. The alcohol makes drivers unpredictable with regards to decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The change is remarkably noticeable. Earlier most of the advertising in this sector tended to play crudely on our consistent fear of the future and the unknown. A case in point being the television advertisement of firms like United India Assurance, National Insurance and Oriental Insurance. All the aforementioned companies provided insurance policies for contingencies like fire, robbery and natural disasters. For some of these predictors, theoretical explanations have been proposed. Various researchers have conducted investigations into the many aspects of this type of relationship and have concluded that an increase in interracial marriages has occurred. This increase may be the result of numerous factors, including the Supreme Court lifting of the legal restrictions on racial intermarriage in 1967, the decrease in White prejudice against Blacks, and the narrowing of the racial gap in education, income, and occupation (Kalmijn 1993). Mark Twain In his beginning, man was part of nature. He knew little about the causes of natural phenomenon and certainly knew of no way to control them. This is perhaps the reason for his creation of ritual and later religion. As man evolved he began to consider the possibilities of gaining some type of control over his environment. If nature was simply a random set of events ruled only by chaos than this wouldn t be possible. Later her sexual reproduction with Uranus produced numerous offspring. While the use of sexual reproduction was human like (obviously not exclusive to humans but still human like), the use of alternative reproduction was represented in the myths. An example of such an alternative would be the conception of the Giants and Erinyes by Gaea when the blood of Uranus fell onto her. While the Greeks seem to have known that human reproduction was related to the sperm entering the woman, they also seem to think the Gods had ways to bypass this requirement. The influences an individual has from family, the pressure to conform to social expectations, displayed by social media and the gender stereotypes, play a major role for a young adult discovering their self identity. Young adults are struggling to find their self identity, as they believe they need to conform to society s expectations to fit in . (Cherry, 2014, para 1). Young adults are also struggling to find their self identity, as gender identification associated with social traits, placed by social expectation. Also, young adults are struggling with finding their self identity, as family portrays the influences from older generations, which may have an effect on an individual s beliefs and values. • 37. Abortion, Interest Groups And Policy Development Kasey Lewis Current Controversies Final Paper Abortion, Interest Groups and Policy Development I. INTRODUCTION In contemporary America it can be argued that nothing is more contentious and controversial of an issue than abortion. From the vehement pro life movement to the impassioned pro choice coalition, this policy issue is one that has become increasingly important in our society. This debate has raised important questions regarding the value of human life, at what stage of development does a fetus have it s constitutionally ensured rights take hold over that of the mother and at what stage can a state start regulating abortions. Interest groups have become integral in the development of policies that give women the right to have an abortion and some that restrict access to the procedure. Legislators on both the federal and state level have been struggling for power over this issue and have been fighting over who has jurisdiction over this area of public policy. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of abortion access while state governments have attempted to mandate transvaginal ultrasounds and place safety restrictions that cause clinics to close and the debate has raised questions about the moral foundations of America and it s citizens. Behind the scenes of all of this chaos none of these entities are fully in control because interest groups are motivating them to behave in ways they may not even realize. Bipolar and substance use disorders share common mechanisms, including impulsivity, poor modulation of motivation and responses to rewarding stimuli, and susceptibility to behavioral sensitization. Her unusual character and style has made her become one of America s best and most original poets of all time. She composed almost 1800 poems, but fewer than a dozen were published in her lifetime. In her poems, she expresses her feelings about identity, religion, nature, love, and death. Her poems tell us a lot about her lifestyle, which was very private and reserved from society. In poems 260 and 409 it talks about the theme of identity. Although they consist of the same theme, there are differences in meaning, tone, and narration. Andrew Plascencia 09/27/2014 Final Essay Literature Prof. H Zameni Little Hope I could never understand living under tyrannies of the old world. The best we can do is learn from those who were there. Literature has been called the reflection of human experience and to many, including my self; it can be a window peering into another age. Chimney sweeps in the old United Kingdom used to be teams of young boys sold into the profession usually to settle a debt and without work regulations; these children would suffer harsh conditions with seemingly no end in sight, minus the permanent solution. It is this struggle we can peer into when reading William Blake s poem, The Chimney Sweeper. A young boy shows his hope for brighter days through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What would life be like outside the constant beating and rigid order of conduct? Author, Kate Chopin, beautifully illustrates the thought process of such a woman. Though faced with a new and challenging reality, the truth remains, life goes on. Freedom will come for those who escape their captors and at first where they may panic soon another feeling takes hold. Small and persisting until unavoidable, in an overwhelming fashion the protagonist finds freedom and we as readers are awakened to the possibility of where we may need or have had freedom. The Story of an Hour, properly named, is an amazing example of irony. As soon as the reader is led to believe this newfound reality for the dear protagonist, she is killed at the stroke of a heart attack. Cause of death: too good to be true. Her husband stands in the doorway unaware he was even suspected to have been in the horrible train accident that supposedly took his life. With this story Chopin has established a dark tone I find similar to the work of Blake. They both show amazing examples of the power of hope and the elasticity of the human spirit. • 47. Death Penalty Sentencing and the Criminal Justice System Jpz777 04/15/2013 Order # 2091084 An examination of death penalty sentencing procedures within the American criminal justice system suggests that the legal and moral authority to execute condemned criminals granted to a government has been tested time and time again, only to be reaffirmed by the Supreme Court. While the 1960 s saw a series of failed attempts to ban the practice, launched by death penalty abolitionist groups firm in their belief that murder can never be justified, it was not until 1972 that a majority of Supreme Court justices ruled to prohibit state mandated executions. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, a national non profit organization dedicated to providing a forum for informed discussion regarding capital punishment, the issue of arbitrariness of the death penalty was brought before the Supreme Court in 1972 in Furman v. Georgia, Jackson v. Georgia, and Branch v. Texas (known collectively as the landmark case Furman v. Georgia (408 U.S. 238)) (DPIC, 2013). While the court previously ruled in Crampton v. Ohio and McGautha v. California that the application of capital punishment did not result in arbitrary and capricious sentencing, the 1972 Furman case challenged the Eight Amendment, whereas the McGautha case cited the Fourteenth Amendment s due process provision. The choice to attack the cruel and unusual punishment clause of the Eighth Amedment, while preserving the original arbitrary and capricious sentencing argument, proved ... The pathogenesis of psoriasis is still not fully elucidated. However, it is supposed that psoriasis is an immunological disease with a strong genetic background which is influenced by some environmental triggers, like infections (mainly streptococci), drugs (e.g. lithium, beta blockers), emotional stress and smoking. Treatment of pruritus in patients with psoriasis should be directed towards the resolution of skin lesions, as disease remission usually is linked with pruritus relief. Gaines states that although he is not devoutly religious, it is his belief that for you to survive, you must have something greater than what you are, whether it s religion or communism, or capitalism or something else, but it must be something above what you are (Gaines and Lowe 52). When applied to the narrator of his subsequent work, A Lesson Before Dying, it would seem that this principle is reflected in the one thing Grant Wiggins initially holds above himself. Yet with the closing lines of this chapter, Death by electrocution.
