My Love Of Love And Love In My Life
In my life, I have always tried to find things that make my life more joyful and peaceful, and
there really are three things that I can think of to best illustrate my love for peace and joy. The
first is the willow sapling that, to me, represents the joy of my childhood. The second is the
guitar that I first learned to play on, that represents my love of music and the peace that I get
from it. The third is the postcard I brought back from New Zealand that represents my love of
travel and adventure and the joy that it brings me. These things are the most important to me
because they remind me to always seek joy and peace in my life.
The first of three items that are most impactful in my life is the willow sapling we used to play with
as kids. Somewhere, lying on mossy green stones along the ruby river in Montana is a sprig of
willow, if it is not gone by now. A long time ago, way back when my family and I used to visit
our cousin s ranch, my sister, my cousins, and I would all go down to where small, rocky
covered in young willow trees islands sprung out of the ruby river, separated by thin sheet sheets
of quickly flowing icy cold water. We would divide up the islands and resources, then get into
teams of two. My sister and I would always inevitably end up paired together, which didn t bother
me, but she clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he noticed my interest, he offered to tech me a few chords, so we both climbed up on a big
flat boulder, and while the light onshore wind misted us with the spray from the waves, my dad
taught me my first song on guitar. I played for hours on end, practicing and practicing, until that
night around the campfire, surrounded by all our friends, I played it next to my dad all the way
through. That only started my love for music, and every year my love for music grows and grows,
and in it, I find an easy, peaceful

Vertical Hour, Face
The Vertical Hour, Face, and What It Is are all very different novels with very different genres.
The Vertical Hour is a dramatic play written by David Hare. The play features three people, and
one of whom is a professor in a university who is still trying to figure things out. Face is a
compilation of poems written by Sherman Alexie. The poems are based on some times in Alexie
s life and his identity. What It Is is a graphic novel written by Lynda Barry. The novel features
stories and pictures about growing up. The play, poems, and graphic novel are quite different in
terms of their genre, but what is on the inside of the books is what brings them together. The

Focusing on their identity, culture, and lives growing up, they made stories and poems out of it
in a fun and creative way. Alexie and Barry s lives were very different apart from each other, but
the same effect can be made. They both went through tough and difficult times no matter what it
was, and ended up making the most out of it. The Vertical Hour does not have this in common.
Instead of focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it.
This can really compare and contrast the way children handle their lives versus adult s handling
their lives. Of course adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they
do can hugely impact them. But children start the base of their own lives before they become
adults, and this ultimately shapes them. No one can be an adult without first being a child. This
is very obvious, but not in a certain way. Before growing up and being responsible, children have
to make dumb and stupid decisions. Alexie barely wrote about this and Barry definitely did not.
But this is a fact, in order to learn from mistakes, we have to make these mistakes. Otherwise we
would eventually just keep repeating the same mistake. Learning from them is what moves us past
them and truly grow up. Nadia, in The Vertical Hour, learned from her mistake of quitting being a
war reporter and went back

Gender Stereotypes In America
Whether it is watching a show on the television at home, or being outside in the real world, it is
pretty self explanatory that every person wants to feel represented and supported, felt like they
are noticed or acknowledged in today s society. No one wants to feel as if they are an outcast or are
inferior to someone or some group. Lately, there have been cases of certain groups of people being
excluded from TV. Specifically, African American
women. Is this really just a coincidence, or is
something going on? Does TV really represent the diversity of Americans yet? It is evident that TV
is not that diverse, but should be more diverse because people should be integrated with each other
instead of separated, it forms stereotypes, and because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, directors wanting to make their shows centered on people in the LGBT
community can sometimes over exaggerate the idea, tinting the proposition of what people
have in their minds of this community. From this, stereotypes can form, especially in the minds
of children that are easy to sway because they are still forming opinions. People who only go off
of the media s portrayal of gays can have skewed ideas about them. For example, there was a
show called The L Word. The L word they are talking about is Lesbian. With a name like this,
you know what the show is about and most likely what it is going to say. A more familiarized
show, Good Luck Charlie does in a small way also taint minds, geared towards the younger
crowd. As you can see, these shows can also form stereotypes for you. A lot of people, however,
would argue that there is more diversity in TV than there ever was. For example, TV shows
such as How to Get Away With Murder and Master of None help to stimulate the idea of
diversity. There are more TV shows now with more than just whites, and no one can argue with
that, but after closer analysis you have to think how many shows are there not featuring them in a
staged way, but everyone is just together in a natural setting? Why can t people just learn to get
over things that happened in the past? Diversity in TV exists more, but there is still a lot more
progress to be

Scarlet Letter Roast Essay
Roast Joseph Conrad s Kurtz from Heart of Darkness is an insecure man, that is afraid of failure.
Kurtz whole purpose in the novel was to collect ivory and he was the best at it, but his time in
Africa was detrimental to his character, which is why he deserves this roast. His time in Africa
authorized him to enslave and kill many natives of the Congo, which makes him a despicable
character in all, but it is his greediness and cowardice to do the right thing that makes him an awful
human being. Kurtz knew that the enslavement of the natives was wrong once he realized kinship
between himself and the natives, but him, being the coward he is, could not afford to lose his
position as the best ivory collector for other human beings. His disregard... Show more content on

Pearl proves herself intelligent when, as a small child, she notices the prejudice directed toward
her and her mother. She proves to be most perceptive when she was able to correctly guess her
father without knowing a thing about him just by Dimmesdale s actions and interactions with
Hester. Most children are unaware of the issues that concern adults and instead are distracted
with child games, but not Pearl. Pearl questioned the whole town for their bigoted values by
asking her mother why she had to wear the scarlet letter but not her father. In fact, she was the
only person that called Dimmesdale out for his hypocrisy and cowardly behavior. Pearl is strong
for defying the standards which were placed upon her from an early age, such as her sinful
nature which was never there and other rules that could not be amenable to her. Her isolation
from the rest of the community forced her to be strong independent girl from a young age. Pearl
proves to be strong enough for her mother and herself when she defends herself from the words of
other children that are ignorant of the hardships that follow the small family. Even at a young age
she when could not even rely on her mother to protect her from the judgement of others, she
protects them both using the fear instilled into others by Hester and Pearl s very existence. Pearl

The Institutional Racism In Sons Of Anarchy
For my paper, I chose the television show Sons of Anarchy . Sons of Anarchy ran from 2008
2014 on FX. The show centered on Jax Teller, the vice president and eventual president of a
motorcycle club in the small town of Charming in Southern California that are also arms dealers.
Throughout the series, Jax, is trying to respect his dead father s wishes to get the club out of
dealing guns. He is eventually able to do this, but it is too late for him because the show ends with
his death. This show was loosely based off of the Shakespearean play, Hamlet. All types of different
races, and racisms are seen throughout. It has the white Sons of Anarchyand IRA. The Latino

the Sons do not have any brothers in their club implying that they are racist. Clay comes back to

in the Sons is half black which is one of the by laws of the club. Eli is instructed by Lincoln
Potter to use this information to force Juice to become a rat, because Juice is terrified of what
the club would do to him if they found that out. This could be seen as splitting because Juice is
Puerto Rican which the Sons are fine with, but that fact that he is half black is not ok. Also, due
to this fear Juice tries to kill himself, after which Eli says that Potter played him that he just
needed a local scape goat and was done being his boy . Potter s response is that if he does not keep
working with him to bring down the Sons that he will go prison. Potter uses the legal system side
of institutional racism in order to get Eli to keep working for

cerebellum and or cerebellar control circuit. Common etiologies of ataxic dysarthria include
degenerative diseases or vascular diseases resulting in lesions to the cerebellum or cranial nerves.
An individual with cerebellar damage will experience difficulties with motor functioning involving
the ability to stand and walk properly. Common motor signs resulting in ataxic dysarthria include a

According the article, Kim and Jo support the fact that musical elements may successfully be
implemented into speech therapy. This study consisted of six stroke patients with mixed dysarthria
over the course of 10 different sessions. Voice data was collected prior to the study by obtaining a
voice sample from each patient, and post test data was collected after completion 10 therapy
sessions. Maximum phonation time, fundamental frequency, voice intensity, jitter and shimmer,
noise to harmonic ratio and diodohkinetic rate are all measured within this protocol. The patients
then participated in the Accent based music speech protocol (AMSP). This protocol was designed
with four different stages where the patients were instructed to integrate musical elements into
speech tasks. The first stage consisted of warm up exercises (e.g., stretching arms and trunk) to
prepare the patients for the rest of the stages. The second stage involved respiratory training. During
this training, the patients participated in a variety of inhalation and exhalation exercises
simultaneously to ascending and descending melodies. Vocalization exercises followed the
respiration exercises. During this task, the patients were instructed to sing vowel combinations
utilizing simple song melodies. The last stage involved six different Korean melodic chants

Hydraulic Fracking In The Oil And Gas Industry
Introduction and Background In the oil and gas industry, fracking is a major current issue that
engineers are dealing with for the current state of the United states. Hydraulic fracking, or
fracking is the process of drilling a well to the depth in the earth where shale rock is located.
Once the drill bit reaches this specific depth, the drilling alters its path to a horizontal track into
the shale rock in order to span the entire reservoir. Next, fracking fluid, consisting of sand, liquid
chemicals, and water, is injected into the shale rock at a high pressure, which cause small cracks,
known as fissures, in the rock. This action allows oil and natural gasto freely escape into the
pipeline. The oil and gas mixture then flows to the surface... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also the disposal of the fracking fluid should be regulated in a non harmful way to the
environment. Along with many other engineering activities, there are ignorant people that rally
against fracking due to the little information they know and their refusal to research the topic
before making accusations. Conclusion In conclusion, Fracking is an innovative way to extract
oil and gas from shale rock. It differs from conventional drilling from the fact that deeper wells
and horizontal drilling are utilized in order to produce more. There are many benefits that
accompany fracking, such as increased employment and decreased cost of importation for the
US because of their large reserves of shale rock. Fracking does come with some drawbacks, such
as environmental issues and fresh water reserves. With future regulations of fracking, the
negative environmental effects can be mitigated. Also, additional water purification systems
should be implemented at fracking sites in order for excess water to be reused and not disposed.
Currently, OPEC has lowered the price to $54 per barrel, which limits fracking because the
breakeven price per barrel is $64 ( A key investor s guide to the crude oil market ). When the price
per barrel exceeds $64, US will become an exporter rather than importing form outside countries.
This will ultimately increase the US

Stereotypes In Slaughterhouse Five
In the novel Slaughterhouse Five , Kurt Vonnegut illustrates the over sexualization and negative
qualities women are associated with. Vonnegut published his novel at the start of the second wave
of feminism where women s rights were finally beginning to get recognition (Napikoski, Feminism
in 1969 ). However, the main character in Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim, reinforces the idea
that all women match a certain unjust category. Vonnegut has received much praise for his novel
Slaughterhouse Five, however upon further analysis, his portrayal of female characters fit flawed
stereotypes.
Notably, perhaps the most baffling character Billy Pilgrim belittles is his wife Valencia Merble.
Despite their marriage, it becomes clear that Pilgrim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Further proving her stereotypical stupidity, the author uses the quote, Lily Rumfoord shuddered,

alone acknowledge the fact it was Truman s announcement, and not a thing . In a similar
fashion to Montana, Lily is being saved by a male, particularly by one named Bertram Copeland

characterization. She relies on Rumfoord to protect her from people such as Billy Pilgrim. She
whispered to Rumfoord, He scares me (236) because she believes Rumfoord is her saviour and
she cannot protect herself. This ties in with her ditzy dropout stereotype because she resembles an
empty headed girly girl being rescued by a male

The Flood in The Epic of Gilgamish and The Bible
The story of the great flood is probably the most popular story that has survived for thousands of
years and is still being retold today. It is most commonly related within the context of Judeo
Christian tradition. In the Holy Bible, the book of Genesis uses the flood as a symbol of God s wrath
as well as His hope that the human race can maintain peace and achieve everlasting salvation.
The tale of Noah s Ark begins with God s expression of dismay as to the degenerate state of the
human race at the time. People were behaving wickedly and sinfully and God decided that a
genetic cleansing was necessary. He spared only Noah and his family, along with two of every
type of animal; one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other similarities consist of the following criteria found in the two stories: The Gods (or God) knew
of one righteous man, Utnapishtim or Noah. The Gods (or God) ordered the hero s to build a
multi story wooden ark. Both of the hero s, in the stories, initially complained about their
assignment to build the boat. The ark would be sealed with pitch, and have many internal
compartments. It would have a single door, and at least one window. The ark was built and
loaded with the hero, a few other humans, and samples from all species of other land animals. A
great rain came pouring down, covering the land with water. The hero s sent out birds at regular
intervals to find if any dry land was in the vicinity. The first two birds returned to the ark. The
third bird apparently found dry land because it did not return. The hero s and their families left
the ark, ritually killed an animal, and offered it as a sacrifice. God (or the gods in the Epic of
Gilgamish) smelled the roasted meat of the sacrifice. The hero s were blessed. The Babylonian
gods seemed genuinely sorry for the genocide that they had created. The God of Noah appears to
have regretted his actions as well, because he promised never to do it again.
As much as there were similarities, there were also a number of differences between the two
stories. For instance, Noah received his

World War 1 Atmosphere Essay
In the years leading up to WWI, there was an extremely tense atmosphere in whichwhere nations
were all but fighting. A number of factors led to this atmosphere of tension, and ultimately, to
World War Onehe war. MThese factors were militarism combined with the glorification of war, and
a resulting sense of fear that created an atmosphere where war felt inevitable and drove nations to
make alliances.
The combination of militarism and the glorification of war was particularly dangerous, as theyit
created a Europe in which all wanted and prepared for a devastating war. Previously, in Europe,
war had consisted of small conflicts between nations that undoubtedly ended in glory and rewards
for the victor, which led to an atmosphere in which ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it
shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to
winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as
triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved
in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary
part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international
tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the
military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in
WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from
attacking France. (...) He said, We must halt the march to the west. (...) It is impossible, said
General Moltke(...). As in Russia, so in Germany, the military men triumphed. (Roberts, 51). Much
of WWI could have been avoided if the Germans had simply turned back, and if the

Analysis Of Fleetwood Mac s Rumours
There is no doubt that Fleetwood Mac s Rumours is one of the most iconic rock albums of all
time. The album skyrocketed the band into fame and success with Grammy nominations, millions
of sold copies and four top ten singles. However, behind the scenes of Fleetwood Mac s success
was a group of people falling apart. The band was in chaos, filled with anger, passion and heartache
and you can clearly hear this turmoil in their lyrics.
During the making of Rumours, Fleetwood Mac s two couples John McVie and Christine McVie,
and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were in the midsts of high tension breakups. The McVie
s were divorcing and Nicks and Buckingham, longtime lovers, were separating; Of course, not
without some affairs mixed into the madness. Tensions were high as the band s songwriters
channeled their frustrations, often used as cross dialogues to one another, to create the songs that
would then become the musical soap opera, Rumours.
One of the first songs on the album, Go Your Own Way truly encompasses the emotion the couples
were feeling. The song starts with the powerful line: loving you isn t the right thing to do / how
can I ever change things that I feel? From the bat, the song, written by Buckingham, is an ode to
the broken relationships within the band. In other words, the lyric means that things aren t working
out between him and Nicks, yet he can t help but love her still. The relationship causes him sadness
and pain, for he cannot help the way he

Essay On The Hobbit
Born in South Africa in 1892, J.R.R. Tolkien is best known as the author of his trilogy, The Lord
of the Rings (Baker). Neal Baker described Tolkien as The most prominent fantasy writer of the
twentieth century (Baker 672). Before writing The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien wrote The Hobbit,
which serves as a predecessor to the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. When The Hobbitwas
published in 1937 it received popular and critical acclaim (Baker). In J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit,
the concepts of an unconventional hero are depicted in the views and actions of Bilbo Baggins.
Bilbo Baggins depicts these concepts through his reluctance to join an adventure, his reliance on wit

In this way Bilbo stands out as more relatable compared to more traditional heroes of the time
period and genre. Because of this, Bilbo Baggins is categorized as the Ego of the story and The
reader s dream (O Neill). This common interpretation of Bilbo s character is also present in his
actions throughout the story. Bilbo s reluctance to adventure outside his home is an example of
Bilbo s unconventional actions as a hero.
In the beginning of J.R.R. Tolkien s story, Bilbo is offered to join Gandalf, a mysterious wizard,
on an adventure through Middle Earth. Gandalf visits Bilbo s home uninvited. Bilbo adamantly
declines Gandalf s offer by saying Sorry! I don t want any adventures, thank you. Not today. Good
morning! But please come to tea any time you like! (Tolkien 7). Bilbo values a lifestyle of
normalcy and stagnation. Later in the story however, his views

Space Travel And Its Impact On The Future
Commercializing Low Earth Orbit
If humans hope to undertake space travel and investigate our solar system and beyond, space
travel first have to make it affordable, relevant and interesting to the general public and the private
sector and the government have to work together. New technology has to be developed, including
more sustainable rockets, new fuel propagation methods and energy consumption techniques that
can allow for prolonged space travel. But before making plans for space travel, the costs that
come along with launching objects or humans into the final frontier of space have to be reduced
significantly. A good way to increase the public interest and to raise money for space travel is to
commercialize low earth orbit flights. Low Earth Orbit is only about 400 km above the Earth; the
International Space Station (ISS) is currently hovering in Low Earth Orbit in the thermosphere of
Earth s atmosphere (1). Some companies have started selling the idea that for a certain price one
can now travel to Low Earth Orbit and get the feeling of temporarily floating in space due to the
decreased effect of gravity. Of course it is very expensive to buy a ticket to participate in one of
these flights but commercializing the idea of flying to space and becoming an astronaut can help
fund future space endeavors. Also, we are starting to see more and more partnerships developing
between private companies interesting in space travel and the National Aeronautics and Space

Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality
The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal
opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the
realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist
traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations
that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. As a religion that gives
strong support of logically and empirically constructed morals, it is worthwhile to note that many of
the societal views of women show a portrayal of the female that has not caught up with ... Show

The Buddha himself said that women were totally, indisputably capable of enlightenment. (325)
The inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should
serve as a warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner
harmony and equality between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much
importance is placed on the separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. Ego, as we
have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness
of basic human nature. (Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender
status can lead to this same type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern
repeated by society and if it enters the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another
disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within
Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of sex, should be on an initially even playing
field, according to the tenants of the Buddha.
Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women s
status. Unfortunately this patriarchal view brings very bad karma for those who use this form of
justice , as they are simply supporting an

Ella Baker Civil Rights Movement Summary
When students from the University of Greensboro, North Carolina, staged a sit in to integrate
lunch counters at F. W. Woolworth stores, they had no idea they were laying the foundation for
Baker to organize the first student led social activist group in the nation. The four students staged
their demonstration on February 1, 1960, and within only a few weeks, nearly 300 more students
had staged similar sit ins across the country. Because of such an overwhelming response, Baker
convinced the SCLC executives to organize student protest groups as the energetic and self
governing arm of the Civil Rights Movement where she would serve as their mentor and advisor.
Ella Baker s ability to think spontaneously and envision the potential of a movement was evidenced
by her foresight to see a shift in the political climate with the student led sit inmovement. Baker
encouraged students to see themselves as the main facilitators for change. Because of this catalyst,
the students adopted that same group centered viewpoint and formed an organization named the
Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee or SNCC. The group recognized Baker as their
founding mother.
Following the successful launch of SNCC, in March of 1964, Baker worked to lay the groundwork
for the Freedom Summer initiatives. Because of Baker s commitment to building community, one

Differences Between The Medieval Catholic Church And Pietism
The Medieval Catholic Church and Pietism are both rooted in the common ideology that God
desires relationship and salvation for all. However, the two differ greatly in missiology, theology
and daily practicality. There are major points of divergence between the Medieval Catholic Church
and Pietism from which modern day Protestantismdeveloped. Mission theology links systematic
theology with practical theology. It outlines and interprets mission systematically and practically
from the perspective of God s mission, Christ s mission, the mission of the Holy Spirit and the
mission of the Church. The true test of The Medieval Catholic Churchand Pietism regardless of the
merging of missiology or the divergence of missiology is determined by how well each one meets
the challenge of the triune God s mandated definition of mission. Ultimately, one must adhere to the
Great Commission found in Matthew Chapter 28, verses 16 20. in order to accomplish a God
centered missiology.
Tradition
Pietism viewed Scripture as the governing authority of one s life. However, the Medieval Catholic
Church embraced Scripture and traditions as authoritative. In fact, Catholicism placed equal
emphasis on Scripture and tradition. According to Catholic Catechism, this living transmission,
accomplished in the Holy Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct from Sacred Scripture by
showing how its riches are poured out in the practice and life of the Church, in her belief and her
prayer. It

Analysis Of Anthem By Ayn Rand
The book Anthem by Ayn Rand takes place in a dystopian society, quite different from the world
we know it today. Equality 7 2521, the main character, lives in a civilization where There are no
men but only the great WE. One, indivisible and forever. (Rand, Ayn) For the majority of the
book, the pronoun we would be used. All idea of ego is forbidden, and is punishable by death.
Acts such as being smarter, or even in Equality 7 2521 s instance, also being taller, is frowned
upon. Going by these standards, the view of moralityis different for this dystopian society. At the
end of the book, Equality 7 2521 re evaluates what morality is according to him. In the beginning

In The Virtue of Selfishness, Ayn Randstates that ...human good does not require human
sacrifices and cannot be achieved by the sacrifice of anyone to anyone. (Rand, Ayn) And that In
popular usage, the word selfishness is a synonym of evil...Yet the exact meaning and dictionary
definition of the word selfishness is: concern with one s own interests. (Rand, Ayn) In Ayn Rand
s excerpts, she discussed the idea of being selfish and of self interest. She mentioned how Men
have been taught that the ego is the synonym of evil, and selflessness the ideal of virtue. But the
creator is the egoist in the absolute sense, and the selfless man is the one who does not think,
feel, judge or act. These are functions of the self. (Rand, Ayn) These excerpts show how Ayn
Rand feels about the ideas of selfish and of self interest. Rand expressed in her work that self
interest isn t as bad as society today makes it seem. She says that The first right on earth is the
right of the ego. Man s first duty is to himself. His moral law is never to place his prime goal

Pythagoran Influence On Greek Society
The world of chaos and disorder has become the world of order and harmony. Ever since the
ancient Greek times, chaos has been in existence. This led people to start thinking outside of the
box. Many people started questioning why somethings were the way they were. As a result many
philosophers emerged in the pre Socratic times. Many people did not understand the world around
them back in those times. Gods were created for various reasons so that they can help explain
certain phenomenons. For many years, people used to live like this until some people started using
logic and reasoning to explain how things happened in the universe. These people that started
thinking differently are known as pre Socratic philosophers. Greek mythology came out... Show

Climatologists have been analysing global warming since the late 1800s. A majority of them have
concluded that humans are the main cause of the unnatural rapid heating of the globe. The
temperature on the planet Venus reaches up to 500 degrees Celsius due to the fact that its
atmosphere is 97% made up of carbon dioxide. These numbers show that sustaining life on Venus
would not be possible, and that the rapid build up in the atmosphere in earth cannot exceed a
particular limit to keep life on earth. The figure below shows the warming and cooling of the globe,
and it shows us how much greenhouse gases have contributed to the warming of the globe in the
latter part of the 20th century:
Is global warming happening already? We know that global warming is already occurring because
of the amount of data and statistics climatologists and scientists have developed over the past
century. The IPCC concluded in its Fourth Assessment Report, that nearly 90 percent of the 29,000
observational data series examined revealed changes consistent with the expected response to
global warming, and the observed physical and biological responses have been greatest in the
regions that warmed the most. Some examples of observed climatic changes are: an increase of

American Indians And Alaskan Natives
American Indians and Alaskan Natives have a relationship with the federal government that is
unique due to the trust relationship between the US and American Indians/Alaskan Natives (AI
/ANs) who are entitled to health care services provided by the US government by virtue of their
membership in sovereign Indian nations. In order to contextualize the complex nature of Indian
healthprograms it is necessary to become versed in the political and legal status of Indian tribes.
Through numerous constitutional, legislative, judicial, executive rulings, and orders that were
largely associated with the succession of land and subsequent treaty rights; the health care of AI

foundations of which can be traced back to the year 1787. The ceded land has been interpreted

from so called entitlement programs have also led to misconceptions regarding the federal
government s responsibility to provide health care and services to AI/ANs. Rhoades (2000) has

fabricated parts together at a series of workstations to create a smooth continuing flow on the

By inputting the information into the layout strategies method, I conclude that SSPF can eliminate

The Long Term And Short Term Memory
According to philosopher psychologist William James, memory is a generalized concept that
encompasses the long term and short term memory. Kendra Cherry, psychologist expert, defines
long term memory as storage of information over an extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s
long term memory is structured by a semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus.
The hippocampus is in the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with
the amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her research of
the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the characterization of the short
memory which is described as, the primary or active memory that presently takes in information.
(Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the
cerebral cortex. An individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information
which are: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which is
through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain signals are sent to
the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information over time. Information is
received through the working memory that consist of auditory memory and spatial memory.
(Morrin, n.d) Spatial memory captures the visual aspects of the information being presented to the
subject.

fulfillment. As the reader learns in the epilogue, Elena returns to Mexico. She seemed more at
home in Mexican culture than Miguel from the beginning: The tomatoes that had escaped the bug

It was round, red and warm from the sun. (23)
La Linea is a novel about crossing borders. The protagonists literally cross the borders of Guatemala
and the US. Crossing the Guatemalan border has no importance, because this border does not
carry meaning for them. Only the American border is a symbol of hope, a better future, and
reunion with their parents. However, during their strenuous trip through the desert, they do not
even notice when they cross the border. I always thought I d know exactly the moment I crossed
the border. [...] How could I not have felt something? (96) Miguel is shocked because he confused
the physical border with the symbolic border. The novel ends before the reader could see how
Miguel and Elena deal with the cultural border they crossed. We only know that they came to the
US without knowing anything about the culture. Elena returns to Mexico, probably because she
was not happy in her new environment. The siblings also

Nat King Cole Essay
Nat quot;King quot; Cole
Music is a universal language, a language that many can speak; however, one that only few can

The man today known as Nat amp;quot;King amp;quot; Cole was actually born in Nathaniel

wealth that had been eluding him for the most part. The King Cole Trio was about to be born.
Nat now had to form a group. The first person to come to Nat s mind was the drummer, Lee

the Swanee. Next Nat approached bassist Wesley Prince, whom he had met while playing the at

The trio was a talented group. From the second they played together, it was clear that these men
performed with real chemistry, especially Nat and Oscar. Both men grew up listening to the same

There are very few companies in the world that are successful in two realms: its personnel realm
and the business realm. It has become common knowledge that Google s employees love working
at Google. They don t simply like it, they love it. Many of Google s employees are computer
programmers and coders, and it takes more than money to both motivate them and keep them
content. Google s original campus in Mountain View, California, otherwise known as GooglePlex,
offers employees everything they may need or want and more leaving them with little reason to go
home at all. It is abundantly clear that this costly approach has paid huge dividends to Google.
Google s very public relationship with its employees has been a ... Show more content on

The reality is, Google offers even more to its employees. In November 1999, Google hired its
first full time chef, Charlie Ayers, who was previously the chef for the Grateful Dead. Ayers won a
cook off competition with other contestants and what was then 40 employees chose him. Google
now has over 30,000 employees around the globe.
According to Jordan Newman, a Google spokesman, Google s goal is to create the happiest,
most productive workplace in the world. In order to do so, it has created a workplace where
there are massages, on site dry cleaning, yoga classes, gourmet cafes, daycare, transportation
services, car wash and oil changes, foreign language classes, and health care facilities all for free.
This doesn t include the Lego play rooms, TGIF drinking days, secret rooms behind bookcases, and
couches that consist of rowboats with cushions.
This also doesn t scratch the surface of what is likely the most envied element of engineers jobs
at Google: the 20% rule. This rule requires that engineers spend 20% of their time or one day each
week on any project that he or she chooses. In fact, Gmail was created in the twenty percent time,
and it took years of convincing to get Google to go through with it, only because they were afraid of
stretching themselves too thin and extending themselves into areas that they were not previously
focused on. Clearly though, they bought into it in the end, and it worked.
However, make no mistake: Google

This essay will show the characteristics of virtue by examining characters from the film Gravity.
The virtue of ethics gives guidance as to what behaviors or traits a person would need in order to
gain Endaimona. This was the ancient Greek philosophers term for a good human life or
happiness which is not meant by mood or feeling, but by a rich and fulfilling life for the individual
living it, explained by Russell (2013). This essay will focus on defining moments throughout the
film where a character has shown virtuein the decisions they have made. Virtue ethics is based on
the moral character of the person, it is what a character feels is the right thing to do; it is not

Sadly, the photograph floats in the empty space above earth. Kant wrote: A good will is not
good because of what it effects or accomplishes it is good through its willing alone, Even were it
to bring about bad consequences, that would not lesson our moral esteem for a good will in
itself (Paton as cited in Darwell, 1998, p.148). His decision to become an engineer and wanting
a career in outer space came with dangerous consequences, as the film states from the beginning,
Life in space is impossible . This film highlights the bravery which is a characteristic of virtue. He
will be called brave who is fearless in face of a noble death and of all emergencies that involve
death (Ross, 2001, pp. 975). Even though it seems unfair to loose one s life for job and duty to
country we are reminded of the virtuous act he was prepared to do in the first place.

no one back home and has lost a 4 year old daughter to an accident. It now dawns to Kowalski
why Stone is so withdrawn preferring silence rather than human interaction. As they approach the

Why Purchase A Surge Protective Device Analysis
Why Purchase a Surge Protective Device (SPD)?
All affiliations and homes depend upon electrical gadgets to complete conventional exercises. Right
when an electrical surge happens, voltage that surprisingly beats perceived apex voltage levels can

Get Our Kids in School
It is dawn in the Ugandan village. Bali awakens to the sound of her little brother stirring in his
sleep. She gets up and coos in his ear little sounds of endearment hoping to lull him back into a
placid slumber. Fortunately she is successful and her little brother continues his rhythmic snores,
but Bali does not get to continue resting. She must collect water, stone and wood; she must prepare
clean dishes and clothes. She must pound cassava root and collect fish; she must prepare food for
her family. By the time she finishes, it is 3:30 in the afternoon and she is enervated. Her juvenile
stature is much too frail for the amount of work expected of her, but it must be done. Though Bali
is six years old and should be attending primary school, she can not because she has to survive. Not
many children, especially in developing countries, have the opportunity to go to school. However
just because the children are immersed with chores, does not mean it is morally correct to neglect

Plagiarism In Forrest Grump
Plagiarism in a movie can be identified by the theme of the movie and adaptations in story line.
A close visual or a theme can also be called as plagiarism. It need not be that films have to copied
scene by scene to be called plagiarism but even a small resemblance to another film can be
called plagiarism. The role played by Tom Hanks in Forrest Grump is seen a copy by Shah Rukh
Khan s portrayal in My name is Khan.(Ashish Sinha ,2010) This characterization is so very similar
that it is called plagiarism. When the original maker of the movie finds even a very close semblance
of a copy in any other movie or even a very remote association of the original which is quite visible

Movie My Favorite Movie
I love watching movies. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make
you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so
any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind,
whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie,
however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called
Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and
desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was
suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie,
and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story.
The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to
make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man
with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just
like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the
unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and
Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses
a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie
portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As
time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery
was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was
constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The
emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded
on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a
movie. Truly, an excellent story propelled Prisoners into my mind and my heart, more than earning
my favor. Besides a great storyline,

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CASE STUDY

Samsung Electronics
Executive Summary
Recent quality related issues have put Samsung Electronics, one of the world s largest technology
companies at risk. These quality concerns, spiked through recent recalls and external complaints,
have generated a flow of bad news coming to the desk of quality director Kevin Sarni. The issues
most commonly found within the complaints related to display issues, customer service support,
faulty electric components, audio, and safety. Of the main issues, display and customer service
support appeared to be the most detrimental. Once the patterns and themes became visible,
Samsung and its quality director Kevin Sarni were challenged with immediately identifying root
causes. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming that many of the display issues are caused by faulty components, such as the main board,
it is important to identify where in the process these faulty components are coming from whether it
be internal manufacturing processes or suppliers. Since suppliers happen to be at the beginning of
the supply chain it would be necessary to begin there. Sarni, along with cross functional teams from
Samsung must immediately schedule a visit to their main suppliers of components such as the
main board. Once the visits are scheduled, Sarni and the cross functional teams will conduct
extensive audits of the supplier s processes and systems. The audits will consist of detailed
examinations of the supplier s equipment, process capability, facilities, and personnel. Each supplier
they visit, Sarni along with another manager, will be responsible for grading each supplier. The
grading metrics should consist of defects per day, damage, flexibility, responsiveness, and
communication. Grades will be recorded on a supplier scorecard and then electronically
documented upon return to Samsung s office. Dependent on the findings, Sarni may be faced with
choosing another supplier, that is, one who is consistently able to meet design specifications.
Eventually, once a quality supplier is developed within Samsung s network of partners, Sarni must
direct significant effort in monitoring their performance. To monitor the supplier s performance
overtime, Sarni

Ocean Tide Research Papers
Amari Williams
Research Paper RD Beginning with its creation, Earth has been in contact with many natural,
environmental disasters. Majorities of the chaos still have effects on people living in coastal areas.
Because of the Earth s large capacity of water and relationship with gravity, tidal waves through
extreme tidal storms are created. The Moon heavily influences the movement of Earth s tides by
shifting and relating land features, using its gravitational pull to change the height of the tides,
and also affecting the speed of the Moon s revolution. To start, the Earth s aquatic tides are the
constant rise and fall of bodies of water every day (Jacobs 9). Gravity, provided by the Moon and
some parts of the Sun, helps create the ocean s tides (Jacobs 10). It is also often caused by the
winds forcefully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Land tides are pieces of ground or land that are slowly shifted up and down twice by the
gravitational force between the Sun and Moon ( The ). Because of important use of mainly
sunlight, land tides occur most near the Equator and not often in the poles. These tides happen in
four cycles: the lunar diurnal, lunar semidiurnal, solar diurnal, and solar semidiurnal ( Tides ).
Diurnal tides last 24 hours while semidiurnal tides only last 12 hours. During a land tide, the center
of the Earth to the outer crust takes time to deform under the Moon and Sun ( The ). The
deformation takes toll on geological processes and volcanic eruptions ( Tides ). To include,
scientists found that volcanic eruptions and tides have a relationship because of the magma flowing
in volcanoes. Geologists use specific instruments like: seismometers, tiltmeters, and strainmeters to
measure slow shifts. Results from these tools are placed on a graph to view the various
movements of Earth. In 1978, Spahr Webb, former M.I.T student, measured with two thirty six feet
tiltmeters and found a tidal tilt in Earth s surface that was .01 of an inch (Wylie

Mark 12 Research Paper
While Mark 12 is told by someone who was a part of the early Christian church, Isaiah 5 was told
by the prophet Isaiah. According to Elmer A. Leslie the Vineyard Song, as Isaiah 5:1 7 is most
often called, was mostly given at the autumnal festival of Booths. Leslie refers to the song as a
prophetic appeal to the house of Israel, the Northern Kingdom, and to the house of Judah, the
Southern Kingdom, for justice and righteousness of conduct in every human relationship. Isaiahthe
son of Amoz prophesied from 742 701 BCE. During this time, Isaiah s focus was to
communicate YHWH s will for his people to the Israelites. Isaiah particularly focuses on the
periods between 735 500 during a time in which Israel was divided and turning away from
YHWH. Most importantly, Isaiah 5:1 12 was told by an Israelite, for the Israelites.... Show more

It is clear both through Mark and John, as well as the rest of the gospels, that in the Christians
tradition, Jesus is necessary for people to have a relationship with God. In Mark 12:1 12, the
tenants are unable to give the fruit directly to God. The fruit must be delivered by servants and
when the servants are unsuccessful in retrieving the fruit, the son is sent. Mark says that this
new way of reaching God will work; the people just have to accept the son. The parable itself, as
told by Jesus within the story of Mark, is directed at the Pharisees. The parable is told
immediately after Jesus throws people out of the temple and directly confronts the Pharisees. From
a current Christian perspective that reads optimistically into Mark s intentions, it can be concluded
that by tenant Mark only means those who have rejected the notion of the son and not the entire
Jewish people. With this understanding, Mark is speaking to everyone. Mark is preaching that
anyone can have a relationship with God so long as they do not act as the tenants do; so long as
people accept the son and through their

Orion is my favorite constellation because it is one of the easiest to find and most recognizable.
This makes it one of the most popular constellations. Orion s belt includes the three brightest
stars in the sky. In the Northern Hemisphere, Orion is a fall and winter constellation, visible
from November to February. One of Orion s stars is actually a nebula, the Orion nebula. The
creation myth for Orion comes from Greek mythology. Orion was a famous hunter. There are
several different myths about Orion s birth, life, and death. The version I read as a child stated
that Orion was a son of Poseidon, and because of this, he could walk on water. He was an amazing
hunter, and always made sure to show respect to Artemis, the goddess of hunting.

  • 2. My Love Of Love And Love In My Life In my life, I have always tried to find things that make my life more joyful and peaceful, and there really are three things that I can think of to best illustrate my love for peace and joy. The first is the willow sapling that, to me, represents the joy of my childhood. The second is the guitar that I first learned to play on, that represents my love of music and the peace that I get from it. The third is the postcard I brought back from New Zealand that represents my love of travel and adventure and the joy that it brings me. These things are the most important to me because they remind me to always seek joy and peace in my life. The first of three items that are most impactful in my life is the willow sapling we used to play with as kids. Somewhere, lying on mossy green stones along the ruby river in Montana is a sprig of willow, if it is not gone by now. A long time ago, way back when my family and I used to visit our cousin s ranch, my sister, my cousins, and I would all go down to where small, rocky covered in young willow trees islands sprung out of the ruby river, separated by thin sheet sheets of quickly flowing icy cold water. We would divide up the islands and resources, then get into teams of two. My sister and I would always inevitably end up paired together, which didn t bother me, but she clearly ... That only started my love for music, and every year my love for music grows and grows, and in it, I find an easy, peaceful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vertical Hour, Face The Vertical Hour, Face, and What It Is are all very different novels with very different genres. The Vertical Hour is a dramatic play written by David Hare. The play features three people, and one of whom is a professor in a university who is still trying to figure things out. Face is a compilation of poems written by Sherman Alexie. The poems are based on some times in Alexie s life and his identity. What It Is is a graphic novel written by Lynda Barry. The novel features stories and pictures about growing up. The play, poems, and graphic novel are quite different in terms of their genre, but what is on the inside of the books is what brings them together. The Vertical Hour, Face, and What It Is provide the strengths and weaknesses within... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Focusing on their identity, culture, and lives growing up, they made stories and poems out of it in a fun and creative way. Alexie and Barry s lives were very different apart from each other, but the same effect can be made. They both went through tough and difficult times no matter what it was, and ended up making the most out of it. The Vertical Hour does not have this in common. Instead of focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it. This can really compare and contrast the way children handle their lives versus adult s handling their lives. Of course adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they do can hugely impact them. But children start the base of their own lives before they become adults, and this ultimately shapes them. No one can be an adult without first being a child. This is very obvious, but not in a certain way. Before growing up and being responsible, children have to make dumb and stupid decisions. Alexie barely wrote about this and Barry definitely did not. But this is a fact, in order to learn from mistakes, we have to make these mistakes. Otherwise we would eventually just keep repeating the same mistake. Learning from them is what moves us past them and truly grow up. Nadia, in The Vertical Hour, learned from her mistake of quitting being a war reporter and went back ... • 4. Gender Stereotypes In America Whether it is watching a show on the television at home, or being outside in the real world, it is pretty self explanatory that every person wants to feel represented and supported, felt like they are noticed or acknowledged in today s society. No one wants to feel as if they are an outcast or are inferior to someone or some group. Lately, there have been cases of certain groups of people being excluded from TV. Specifically, African American women. Is this really just a coincidence, or is something going on? Does TV really represent the diversity of Americans yet? It is evident that TV is not that diverse, but should be more diverse because people should be integrated with each other instead of separated, it forms stereotypes, and because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, directors wanting to make their shows centered on people in the LGBT community can sometimes over exaggerate the idea, tinting the proposition of what people have in their minds of this community. From this, stereotypes can form, especially in the minds of children that are easy to sway because they are still forming opinions. People who only go off of the media s portrayal of gays can have skewed ideas about them. For example, there was a show called The L Word. The L word they are talking about is Lesbian. With a name like this, you know what the show is about and most likely what it is going to say. A more familiarized show, Good Luck Charlie does in a small way also taint minds, geared towards the younger crowd. As you can see, these shows can also form stereotypes for you. A lot of people, however, would argue that there is more diversity in TV than there ever was. For example, TV shows such as How to Get Away With Murder and Master of None help to stimulate the idea of diversity. There are more TV shows now with more than just whites, and no one can argue with that, but after closer analysis you have to think how many shows are there not featuring them in a staged way, but everyone is just together in a natural setting? Why can t people just learn to get over things that happened in the past? Diversity in TV exists more, but there is still a lot more progress to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Scarlet Letter Roast Essay Roast Joseph Conrad s Kurtz from Heart of Darkness is an insecure man, that is afraid of failure. Kurtz whole purpose in the novel was to collect ivory and he was the best at it, but his time in Africa was detrimental to his character, which is why he deserves this roast. His time in Africa authorized him to enslave and kill many natives of the Congo, which makes him a despicable character in all, but it is his greediness and cowardice to do the right thing that makes him an awful human being. Kurtz knew that the enslavement of the natives was wrong once he realized kinship between himself and the natives, but him, being the coward he is, could not afford to lose his position as the best ivory collector for other human beings. She proves to be most perceptive when she was able to correctly guess her father without knowing a thing about him just by Dimmesdale s actions and interactions with Hester. Most children are unaware of the issues that concern adults and instead are distracted with child games, but not Pearl. Pearl questioned the whole town for their bigoted values by asking her mother why she had to wear the scarlet letter but not her father. In fact, she was the only person that called Dimmesdale out for his hypocrisy and cowardly behavior. Pearl is strong for defying the standards which were placed upon her from an early age, such as her sinful nature which was never there and other rules that could not be amenable to her. Her isolation from the rest of the community forced her to be strong independent girl from a young age. • 7. The Institutional Racism In Sons Of Anarchy For my paper, I chose the television show Sons of Anarchy . Sons of Anarchy ran from 2008 2014 on FX. The show centered on Jax Teller, the vice president and eventual president of a motorcycle club in the small town of Charming in Southern California that are also arms dealers. Throughout the series, Jax, is trying to respect his dead father s wishes to get the club out of dealing guns. He is eventually able to do this, but it is too late for him because the show ends with his death. This show was loosely based off of the Shakespearean play, Hamlet. Eli is instructed by Lincoln Potter to use this information to force Juice to become a rat, because Juice is terrified of what the club would do to him if they found that out. This could be seen as splitting because Juice is Puerto Rican which the Sons are fine with, but that fact that he is half black is not ok. Also, due to this fear Juice tries to kill himself, after which Eli says that Potter played him that he just needed a local scape goat and was done being his boy . Common etiologies of ataxic dysarthria include degenerative diseases or vascular diseases resulting in lesions to the cerebellum or cranial nerves. An individual with cerebellar damage will experience difficulties with motor functioning involving the ability to stand and walk properly. Common motor signs resulting in ataxic dysarthria include a wide based gait and limb, nystagmus, hypotonia and dysmetria. Maximum phonation time, fundamental frequency, voice intensity, jitter and shimmer, noise to harmonic ratio and diodohkinetic rate are all measured within this protocol. The patients then participated in the Accent based music speech protocol (AMSP). This protocol was designed with four different stages where the patients were instructed to integrate musical elements into speech tasks. The first stage consisted of warm up exercises (e.g., stretching arms and trunk) to prepare the patients for the rest of the stages. The second stage involved respiratory training. During this training, the patients participated in a variety of inhalation and exhalation exercises simultaneously to ascending and descending melodies. Vocalization exercises followed the respiration exercises. During this task, the patients were instructed to sing vowel combinations utilizing simple song melodies. • 9. Hydraulic Fracking In The Oil And Gas Industry Introduction and Background In the oil and gas industry, fracking is a major current issue that engineers are dealing with for the current state of the United states. Hydraulic fracking, or fracking is the process of drilling a well to the depth in the earth where shale rock is located. Once the drill bit reaches this specific depth, the drilling alters its path to a horizontal track into the shale rock in order to span the entire reservoir. Next, fracking fluid, consisting of sand, liquid chemicals, and water, is injected into the shale rock at a high pressure, which cause small cracks, known as fissures, in the rock. This action allows oil and natural gasto freely escape into the pipeline. The oil and gas mixture then flows to the surface... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the disposal of the fracking fluid should be regulated in a non harmful way to the environment. Along with many other engineering activities, there are ignorant people that rally against fracking due to the little information they know and their refusal to research the topic before making accusations. Conclusion In conclusion, Fracking is an innovative way to extract oil and gas from shale rock. It differs from conventional drilling from the fact that deeper wells and horizontal drilling are utilized in order to produce more. There are many benefits that accompany fracking, such as increased employment and decreased cost of importation for the US because of their large reserves of shale rock. Fracking does come with some drawbacks, such as environmental issues and fresh water reserves. With future regulations of fracking, the negative environmental effects can be mitigated. Also, additional water purification systems should be implemented at fracking sites in order for excess water to be reused and not disposed. Currently, OPEC has lowered the price to $54 per barrel, which limits fracking because the breakeven price per barrel is $64 ( A key investor s guide to the crude oil market ). When the price per barrel exceeds $64, US will become an exporter rather than importing form outside countries. This will ultimately increase the US ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Stereotypes In Slaughterhouse Five In the novel Slaughterhouse Five , Kurt Vonnegut illustrates the over sexualization and negative qualities women are associated with. Vonnegut published his novel at the start of the second wave of feminism where women s rights were finally beginning to get recognition (Napikoski, Feminism in 1969 ). However, the main character in Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim, reinforces the idea that all women match a certain unjust category. Vonnegut has received much praise for his novel Slaughterhouse Five, however upon further analysis, his portrayal of female characters fit flawed stereotypes. Notably, perhaps the most baffling character Billy Pilgrim belittles is his wife Valencia Merble. Despite their marriage, it becomes clear that Pilgrim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Flood in Epic of Gilgamish and Book of Genesis of the... The Flood in The Epic of Gilgamish and The Bible The story of the great flood is probably the most popular story that has survived for thousands of years and is still being retold today. It is most commonly related within the context of Judeo Christian tradition. In the Holy Bible, the book of Genesis uses the flood as a symbol of God s wrath as well as His hope that the human race can maintain peace and achieve everlasting salvation. The tale of Noah s Ark begins with God s expression of dismay as to the degenerate state of the human race at the time. People were behaving wickedly and sinfully and God decided that a genetic cleansing was necessary. He spared only Noah and his family, along with two of every type of animal; one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other similarities consist of the following criteria found in the two stories: The Gods (or God) knew of one righteous man, Utnapishtim or Noah. The Gods (or God) ordered the hero s to build a multi story wooden ark. Both of the hero s, in the stories, initially complained about their assignment to build the boat. The ark would be sealed with pitch, and have many internal compartments. It would have a single door, and at least one window. The ark was built and loaded with the hero, a few other humans, and samples from all species of other land animals. A great rain came pouring down, covering the land with water. The hero s sent out birds at regular intervals to find if any dry land was in the vicinity. The first two birds returned to the ark. The third bird apparently found dry land because it did not return. The hero s and their families left the ark, ritually killed an animal, and offered it as a sacrifice. God (or the gods in the Epic of Gilgamish) smelled the roasted meat of the sacrifice. The hero s were blessed. The Babylonian gods seemed genuinely sorry for the genocide that they had created. The God of Noah appears to have regretted his actions as well, because he promised never to do it again. • 12. World War 1 Atmosphere Essay In the years leading up to WWI, there was an extremely tense atmosphere in whichwhere nations were all but fighting. A number of factors led to this atmosphere of tension, and ultimately, to World War Onehe war. MThese factors were militarism combined with the glorification of war, and a resulting sense of fear that created an atmosphere where war felt inevitable and drove nations to make alliances. The combination of militarism and the glorification of war was particularly dangerous, as theyit created a Europe in which all wanted and prepared for a devastating war. Previously, in Europe, war had consisted of small conflicts between nations that undoubtedly ended in glory and rewards for the victor, which led to an atmosphere in which ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from attacking France. (...) He said, We must halt the march to the west. (...) It is impossible, said General Moltke(...). As in Russia, so in Germany, the military men triumphed. (Roberts, 51). • 13. Analysis Of Fleetwood Mac s Rumours There is no doubt that Fleetwood Mac s Rumours is one of the most iconic rock albums of all time. The album skyrocketed the band into fame and success with Grammy nominations, millions of sold copies and four top ten singles. However, behind the scenes of Fleetwood Mac s success was a group of people falling apart. The band was in chaos, filled with anger, passion and heartache and you can clearly hear this turmoil in their lyrics. During the making of Rumours, Fleetwood Mac s two couples John McVie and Christine McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were in the midsts of high tension breakups. The McVie s were divorcing and Nicks and Buckingham, longtime lovers, were separating; Of course, not without some affairs mixed into the madness. Tensions were high as the band s songwriters channeled their frustrations, often used as cross dialogues to one another, to create the songs that would then become the musical soap opera, Rumours. One of the first songs on the album, Go Your Own Way truly encompasses the emotion the couples were feeling. The song starts with the powerful line: loving you isn t the right thing to do / how can I ever change things that I feel? From the bat, the song, written by Buckingham, is an ode to the broken relationships within the band. In other words, the lyric means that things aren t working out between him and Nicks, yet he can t help but love her still. The relationship causes him sadness and pain, for he cannot help the way he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Essay On The Hobbit Born in South Africa in 1892, J.R.R. Tolkien is best known as the author of his trilogy, The Lord of the Rings (Baker). Neal Baker described Tolkien as The most prominent fantasy writer of the twentieth century (Baker 672). Before writing The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, which serves as a predecessor to the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. When The Hobbitwas published in 1937 it received popular and critical acclaim (Baker). In J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit, the concepts of an unconventional hero are depicted in the views and actions of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins depicts these concepts through his reluctance to join an adventure, his reliance on wit and luck, and the changes and developments he experiences through his adventure.... Because of this, Bilbo Baggins is categorized as the Ego of the story and The reader s dream (O Neill). Bilbo s reluctance to adventure outside his home is an example of Bilbo s unconventional actions as a hero. In the beginning of J.R.R. Tolkien s story, Bilbo is offered to join Gandalf, a mysterious wizard, on an adventure through Middle Earth. Gandalf visits Bilbo s home uninvited. Bilbo adamantly declines Gandalf s offer by saying Sorry! I don t want any adventures, thank you. Not today. Good morning! But please come to tea any time you like! (Tolkien 7). • 15. Space Travel And Its Impact On The Future Commercializing Low Earth Orbit If humans hope to undertake space travel and investigate our solar system and beyond, space travel first have to make it affordable, relevant and interesting to the general public and the private sector and the government have to work together. New technology has to be developed, including more sustainable rockets, new fuel propagation methods and energy consumption techniques that can allow for prolonged space travel. But before making plans for space travel, the costs that come along with launching objects or humans into the final frontier of space have to be reduced significantly. A good way to increase the public interest and to raise money for space travel is to commercialize low earth orbit flights. Low Earth Orbit is only about 400 km above the Earth; the International Space Station (ISS) is currently hovering in Low Earth Orbit in the thermosphere of Earth s atmosphere (1). Some companies have started selling the idea that for a certain price one can now travel to Low Earth Orbit and get the feeling of temporarily floating in space due to the decreased effect of gravity. Of course it is very expensive to buy a ticket to participate in one of these flights but commercializing the idea of flying to space and becoming an astronaut can help fund future space endeavors. Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. (325) The inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should serve as a warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner harmony and equality between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much importance is placed on the separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. Ego, as we have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness of basic human nature. (Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender status can lead to this same type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern repeated by society and if it enters the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of sex, should be on an initially even playing field, according to the tenants of the Buddha. Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women s status. The four students staged their demonstration on February 1, 1960, and within only a few weeks, nearly 300 more students had staged similar sit ins across the country. Because of such an overwhelming response, Baker convinced the SCLC executives to organize student protest groups as the energetic and self governing arm of the Civil Rights Movement where she would serve as their mentor and advisor. However, the two differ greatly in missiology, theology and daily practicality. There are major points of divergence between the Medieval Catholic Church and Pietism from which modern day Protestantismdeveloped. Mission theology links systematic theology with practical theology. It outlines and interprets mission systematically and practically from the perspective of God s mission, Christ s mission, the mission of the Holy Spirit and the mission of the Church. The true test of The Medieval Catholic Churchand Pietism regardless of the merging of missiology or the divergence of missiology is determined by how well each one meets the challenge of the triune God s mandated definition of mission. Ultimately, one must adhere to the Great Commission found in Matthew Chapter 28, verses 16 20. in order to accomplish a God centered missiology. Tradition Pietism viewed Scripture as the governing authority of one s life. However, the Medieval Catholic Church embraced Scripture and traditions as authoritative. In fact, Catholicism placed equal emphasis on Scripture and tradition. All states that have school dropout ages under 18 should be raised to 18 because dropping out will make them earn less money, become less healthy, and increase the likelihood of going to jail. • 37. The Long Term And Short Term Memory According to philosopher psychologist William James, memory is a generalized concept that encompasses the long term and short term memory. Kendra Cherry, psychologist expert, defines long term memory as storage of information over an extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s long term memory is structured by a semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus. The hippocampus is in the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with the amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her research of the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the characterization of the short memory which is described as, the primary or active memory that presently takes in information. (Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the cerebral cortex. An individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information which are: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which is through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain signals are sent to the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information over time. Information is received through the working memory that consist of auditory memory and spatial memory. • 48. Movie My Favorite Movie I love watching movies. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind, whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie, however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie, and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story. The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a movie. Sarni, along with cross functional teams from Samsung must immediately schedule a visit to their main suppliers of components such as the main board. The audits will consist of detailed examinations of the supplier s equipment, process capability, facilities, and personnel. Majorities of the chaos still have effects on people living in coastal areas. The Moon heavily influences the movement of Earth s tides by shifting and relating land features, using its gravitational pull to change the height of the tides, and also affecting the speed of the Moon s revolution.
