Clara Barton. Clara barton lead the American red cross______.Clara barton was a humanitarian who

I was born Christmas day in the small town of north oxford, Massachusetts. The year was 1821 and I
was the 5th and last child of sarah and Stephen barton. We were a middle class family and my parents
were hard workers who cared for me very much. I have four siblings , two sisters and two brothers,
whos ages ranged from 10 17 when I was born. For years to come they woild teach me many skills,
some which would help me later on.
I was a very shy child but I kept myself busy with my studies . I was well spoken and well
read(according to my parents) and when I started school I could spell 3 syllable words. Other things I
was taught at a youngs age, mainly by my siblings, were things as in how to play sports, skip stones,
and tasks like sewing and cooking.
My parents had hopes that over time I would become less shy, but when I wtill avoided things such as
public speaking they sent me to boarding school. These were some of the worst weeks of my life. I
became so sick I stopped talking and eating all together. Once my parents realized their plan did not
work I was taken back home. When I got home my family and I soon moved to a farm where my

The Geographies Of The Iroquois And Iroquois Tribe
Before 1492, when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, there were many tribes living in North America.
Two equally similar and different ones were the Iroquois tribe and the Cherokee tribe. On one hand,
they are similar because of their geographies and their economies. On the other hand, they are
different because of their cultures and religious beliefs. The geographies of the Iroquois and Cherokee
tribes are alike in multiple ways. For instance, the Iroquois lived in the Northeast region; they lived in
New York and near Ontario River, Canada and along the Saint Lawrence River. The Cherokee tribe
lived in the Southeast region and in parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, mostly. This
means that both the Cherokee and the Iroquois tribes lived in the East. Additionally, the Iroquois tribe
got around by walking and using canoes. The Cherokee tribe travelled on foot, wagons, and boats.
This shows that both tribes walked and used boats to transport themselves from place to place. In
summary, the geographies of the Iroquois and Cherokee are similar in a numerous amount of ways.
The economies of the Cherokee and Iroquois tribes are similar in many ways. For example, according
to Daily Life in Olden Times for Kids Northeast Iroquois Nation Warriors, Weapons, Battle
Techniques, Mr. Donn, The men made many types of weapons. They made bows and arrows out of
hickory or ash wood. The tips of the arrows were made out of turtle, antler bone, and deer bone. They

What Is The Personification In The Dream Of The Rood
Dream of the Rood 1. The speakers described in the story are referred to as the dreamer and a cross.
The cross is given huge personification inside the story as it is an inanimate object. Both speakers
view Christ as a selfless hero. They use the names such as heavens Lord, the wielder of victories, the
prince of glory, and heavens Guardian to describe him. The poet describes Christ as someone who has
won a great battle against the sins of mankind. By winning this battle he is able to rebirth into a
society that is more holy than it ever was before. This to the poet is something so mighty that it alone
has the power to buy true happiness and peace for all of mankind. 2. Word structure and style of the
poem leaves a flowy, serene feel throughout the story. The use of personification in terms of the cross
and the mass amounts of imagery brings out an outworldly presence. The inner thoughts of the
dreamer can be easily confused with reality and leaves the reader wondering what is actually
happening and what isn t. Riddles add to the flow of the poem by providing a fantasy feel. The

The wanderer inside this poem is perceived as such because he has lost everything and is searching for
a new place to start over. He wonders endlessly from place to place to find what he used to have in his
life. The wanderer is looking to rebuild his life because he has lost his structure. I believe this is
relevant to the universal situation that many people face going through life. There are many times
when we lose things or people that mean the world to us and we have to start over. It s important to
not take what is right in front of us for granted. We will all eventually passed away so it s important to
be content rather than wondering endlessly for what we don t have or else we will die unhappy and

Essay Comparing Frankenstein And Modern Prometheus
With hundreds of thousands of songs, books, movies, and art dedicated to this one emotion, there is
plenty of evidence that when it comes to human interaction love is an extremely powerful emotion
that can have a transforming effect. In contrast, a lack of love can also have effects, especially dire or
negative ones for those who are in need. Behind Mary Shelley s Frankenstein; or, the Modern
Prometheus is a main character who cherishes himself, his own pride, and has grand plans in mind for
his legacy, all of which could possibly have positive results, but do not feature a plan or a personality
ripe with love. In contrast, Goethe s Faust also features a character who is strong willed and very
smart, but without a strong sense of love for others in his life, he also faces negative results. Both
works could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the very poignant quote of A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart (Goethe Part
1), Faust still yearns for more than the heart, more than what love can offer to one s life. He seems
pained by the lack of knowledge in his life: Oh, God! Art is long / And life is short (558 559), but
when speaking of what he can feel, the lament is not nearly as strong:
You can t, if you can t feel it, if it never / Rises from the soul, and sways / The heart of every single
hearer, / With deepest power, in simple ways. / You ll sit forever, gluing things together, / Cooking up
a stew from other s scraps, / Blowing on a miserable fire, / Made from your heap of dying ash. / Let
apes and children praise your art, / If their admiration s to your taste, / But you ll never speak from
heart to heart, / Unless it rises up from your heart s space. (535 545)
Faust has perhaps already resigned himself to a loveless life, or perhaps his strong feelings for acclaim
and knowledge cloud the possibilities of what love can bring to one s life, if one only lets it rise

John Coltrane Outline
Jazz Giant John Coltrane John William Coltrane,(1926 1967), also known as Trane was an African
American jazz saxophonist and composer. He is a the saga of jazz legend, or we can say a jazz giant in
global music. The thesis contains two parts, the first part will illustrate the whole life of John Coltrane,
and the second part will state the influence which he gave on. He has affected the jazz in his short life,
and even his influence continues today. John Coltrane is the most influential African American jazz
saxophonist and composer in the development of modern jazz of the 20th century. He was born at
Hamlet Avenue on September 23, 1926. And at the year of 1938, his relatives beside his mother and a
close cousin all died within a few months of one another, like his father, aunt and grandparents, so
John was raised by his mother.
In September 1943, John got his first saxophone from his kind mother, an alto. And at the same year,
he entered the Ornstein School of Music, studied saxophone and the music theory course. In 1945, he
had his first professional gigs, and at the same year, Coltrane enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Coltrane s
musical talent soon made him stand out in the navy, and then he served as a musician though he did

How 5-HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key...
How 5 HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key question of interest. Despite being cation
channels, NMDA receptors have non linear, voltage dependent conductance (Mayer and Westbrook,
1987). This property results from the voltage dependent Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels
(Mayer et al., 1984; Nowak et al., 1984) and thus leads to the negative slope conductance in the
current voltage relationship (i.e. I V curve; Nowak et al., 1984; Flatman et al., 1983; MacDonald et al.,
1982). Because of the voltage dependent conductance, NMDA receptor activation generates intrinsic
voltage oscillations in spinal neurons of rat (Hochman et al., 1994a; Hochman et al., 1994b) and
amphibian (Sillar and Simmers, 1994a; Sillar and Simmers, 1994b) ... Show more content on

In the cord preparations with TTX treatment, 5 HT application reintroduced the negative slope
conductance in the I V curve of healthy motoneurons failing to show the negative slope conductance
in the presence of NMDA alone (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Moreover, in other motoneurons
showing the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone, 5 HT caused the negative
slope conductance to shift toward the hyperpolarizing direction, which could be reversed by 5 HT
antagonist mianserin (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Reducing the bath concentration of Mg2+ also
mimicked the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance by 5 HT (Schmidt and Jordan,
2000). Via 5 HT2 receptor activation, protein kinase C (PKC) can enhance the hyperpolarizing shift of
the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of NMDA receptors and also reduce Mg2+ blockade
of the receptor channels (Blank et al., 1996; Chen and Huang, 1992). Therefore, the effect of 5 HT on
the negative slope conductance of NMDA receptors may result from reduction of Mg2+ blockade of
the receptor channels. Even more interestingly, Li and Zhuo (1998) discovered that 5 HT can induce
the transformation of silent glutamatergic synapses into functional ones in some rat superficial dorsal
horn neurons (Li and Zhuo, 1998). They detected silent synapses, which are excitatory postsynaptic
currents mediated by NMDA receptors, by depolarizing the cells from 70 mV to +40 mV (Li and
Zhuo, 1998). However, 5 HT

Private Equity Investment
Private Equity (PE) investment is an asset class that is bought and sold in a privately negotiated
transaction and is not publicly traded on a stock exchange. This investment is normally completed by
private equity firm, venture capital firm, or an informal investor named business angel. They raise
funds and invest it on behalf of their investors. There are four most well known investment strategies,
i.e. venture capital (VC), leveraged buy out (LBO), mezzanine debt and distressed debt investments. It
is distinguishable that VC usually targets the start up firms while LBO purchases majority control in a
developed and mature firm. The total global PE assets under management (AUM) in 2013 has climbed
up to $3,466 billion, the highest value to date and has remained a steadily growth throughout the past
6 years after financial crisis (Appendix figure 1). This is partially attributed to a sharp decline of exit
activity resulted from crisis, led to more capital calls, improved fundraising and thus expansion of
AUM.
Between 1990 and 2008, capital committed in PE were growing at 20% compounding rate annually,
with some acquired firms have become popular due to the popularity of PE, such as Domino s Pizza
and Toys R . However, following the financial crisis in 2008, the private equity industry has been
confronting momentous challenges yet continuous to recover with signs of performance rebounding. It
has been proved to outperform the public market over the long term. While it is

Morality of Population Control of Bangladesh Essay
Morality of Population Control of Bangladesh
ABSTRACT: The rapid rate of population growth in the last half of the present century causes anxiety
about the future of humanity because the amount of resources needed to satisfy basic necessities is
extremely large. Correspondingly, the satisfaction of basic needs cannot be the sole criterion of the
good life. Human beings have a right to live a life composed of things that make life go best. The case
of Bangladesh shows that the majority of people live a life barely worth living, a life morally
undesirable. One major reason is the rapid increase in population. Bangladesh covers an area slightly
less than that of the state of Illinois, but has a population that is roughly half of the ... Show more

The per capita GNP is US$ 283 and electricity consumption rate is 90 kwh, infant mortality rate is
81.8 per housand, life expectation at birth is 56 years, literacy rate is 37% there is only one telephone
per 380 people these data indicate that Bangladesh is far behind the developed countries in respect of
the physical quality of life. One of the main reasons of this bleak picutre of Bangladesh is its inability
to keep the number of people within tolerable limits. In this condition it is not desirable that people
will knowingly produce children who would most likely live a life not worthy of living a life so
miserable that it would be better not having been born at all.
Narveson thinks that unhappiness that a prospective person will experience constitutes a moral reason
not to bring her or him (2) into existence while happiness which she or he is likely to experience if
born provides no moral reason to produce her or him. Morality seeks to promote good and avoid harm
or prevent suffering. Not harming people takes moral preference than benefitting them. A moral
justification, therefore, exists to avoid conception so that a probable child would not be in abject
poverty or suffer any form of adversities. The condition of Bangladesh indicates that the individual or
people who will come into existence in future will very likely experience abject poverty or

White Privilege Definition
White privilege everyone has heard of it but what does it really mean and are all whites okay with it
being said it. Could it be a racial slur to the white race or did the whites create and make it there own
and use it to their advance. Privilege means a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or
available only to a particular person or group of people (dictionary). Just by know the definition helps
understand white privilege a little more understanding. Not all white men are privileged because to be
privilege is to have connections and money in this day and age. Everyone thinking by now that if you
re white you are right and that you have money a lot of the term white privilege is mostly the upper
class white men with money and power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So to everyone in the world all white men are privileged but to be real that s is not correct at all. The
truth is white privilege are white men that have money power connect and that means they in the
upper class. We all have seen new about a young white male college student rape two fellow female
classmates and he was sentenced to six months in prison but he only served three months. He only
served that short amount of time because of his father s connect money and power. If that was
someone lower class white men or any other young minority they would have been in prison for 20 to
life. The stereotype only applies to upper class and people that have connects. Also their is another
part to white privilege that always happens white men will always get jobs over everyone and anyone.
That does not mean that it s white privilege for all you could know that position you both are going for
is he is more qualified. Everyone throws white privilege in white people s face and it really originated
in white supremacy groups and that phrase white is right came from. Another question ask by salam,
What if white supremacy really is as pervasive and powerful a force as many left of center
intellectuals believe? (salam ). This question many people think because its more than likely true. One
thing about the white supremacy I agree that they are the ones who came up with white male privilege
or white privilege in general to be honest it a kind looks similar to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, Hitler
was trying to make the ideal or perfect race and in a lot of ways white supremacy groups are saying
they are perfect and other things as well. In the essay Black people in public space , shows white
privilege in a way. Staples states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist,
or worse. Suffering a bout of insomnia, however, I was stalking sleep, not

Ernest Hemingway s The Big Two-Hearted River
Hemingway s 1925 short story, The Big Two Hearted River, originally from the collection of short
stories entitled In Our Time, engages in an introspective identity crisis, which arises after the book s
protagonist, Nick, returns from World War I. While Nick attempts to navigate his life outside of
combat, Hemingway takes him on a journey of reconciliation and self discovery. Embarking on his
journey into nature, Nick submerges himself in a life of what seems to be pure tranquility. In Nick s
eyes, society subjects people to violence, but nature is inherently good. Shortly after, Hemingway
provides Nick with tangible evidence opposing his original thoughts. Hemingway brings to light the
fact that both society and nature have subliminal binaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After experiencing moments of loss and violence, Nick chooses to return to the one place of constancy
he knows, which is nature. In nature, Nick believes that he can escape the brutality and hate that
humanity creates. Leaving behind the burned town of Seney and choosing to enter the natural world,
Nick [feels] he [has] left everything behind, the need for thinking, the need to write, other needs. It
was all back of him, (Hemingway 179). Hemingway subtly suggests that Nick has been plagued with
an endless list of realities that have consumed him for far too long. Nick s escape from reality provides
brief moments of solitude and rest from his bustling world. Amidst the burned and destroyed town of
Seney a river remains untouched, providing a symbol of hope. While Seney seems broken, the
possibility of new beginnings and life exists. This binary is parallel in Nick s life as well. Nick
actively chooses to pursue new beginnings instead of dwelling on the memories of his past, but is
quickly reminded that he cannot escape the parts of his life that play a large part in his identity.
Attempting to escape the pressing realities of life back home, Nick notices that the problems he
internalizes in his own life are apparent in nature as well. While fishing and rivers seems to be a place
of happiness and healing for Nick, reality finds a way to creep in. Looking at a trout in the river, Nick
s heart tightened as the trout moved. He felt all the old feeling, (Hemingway 178). Nick does not
reveal the old feeling or who/what is associated with that feeling. Instead, it can be recognized that a
tightened heart is a sign of tension and anxiety. Despite Nick s best efforts to escape his past seeking
comfort in the familiar, he finds that like his pack, he carries his past with him wherever he goes,
whether he desires to or

The History and Function of the Condom
Introduction
The condom is a barrier device that is used since ancient times. Many couples do not want to get
pregnant but still want to have sexual intercourse. In this circumstance, one way is to wear a condom.
AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), is a pandemic that caused 36 million deaths
worldwide (citation: UNAIDS.org, 2012) caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). One of
the reasons why it spread so quickly is because of sexual contact. The men s body fluid (semen) is
spread into the women s body, which means the woman is also contracted with AIDS. But with the
help of the condom, the number of people newly infected by AIDS greatly reduced. The condom does
not stop AIDS, it stops AIDS from spreading.
Throughout history, there are many different types of condoms, from the earliest leather condoms, to
rubber, and now the Polyisoprene (Natural rubber). The most commonly used is the 1920 Latex
Condom, which is the one I will focus on in this essay. How the condom works
Human reproduction works when an erect penis is inserted into the vagina and the man thrust it in and
out until ejaculation occurs. The semen (liquid that includes sperm and other liquid) is released into
the vagina. The sperm travels along the vagina and meets the egg, where the sperm fertilizes the egg.
The sperm and egg forms a zygote. The zygote later forms into an embryo cell and is implanted onto
the endometrium (the uterus wall); this is the beginning of pregnancy. (Y9 Reproduction

Dante s Concept of Sin and Judgment in The Inferno
Infidelity, murder, betrayal, and conspiracy all play an integral part in the story of the relationship
between Jason and Medea. Jason is guilty of all four acts and Medea involves herself in three. Yet,
perhaps, in the eyes of Dante, Medea might fall further into the realm of Dis than Jason. But, should
she? And, is Dante s view of Jason and his sentence in Hell appropriate?
From Dante s perspective, crimes of passion or desire are the least abhorrent and consequently deserve
minimal punishment in comparison to what he believes are the more serious offenses. These sinners,
the carnal, the gluttonous, the hoarders and wasters, along with the wrathful and ... Show more content

Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish ambition
is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less detrimental
to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation.
In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as seducers
and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil counselors,
sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life betrayed the
confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly deceived without
concern for their victims psyche or physical being.
Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound fraud.
Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather twisted the
confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin or country. They
either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. And, falling closest to the
pit of Hell (and Lucifer) are those souls who betray the confidence of their lord or benefactor. All
these unfortunate shadows of life are those who consciously sought to gain by lying to or by
committing an act of treachery against someone who holds a special place in their life; someone who,
in some way, they are

Faith And Faith In The Novel Night By Elie Wiesel
Faith is like a little seed, if you think about the positive aspects of the situation, then it will grow like
how a seed grows when you water it. But if the seed does not receive water anymore, it will die like
how the horrors and negativity of the concentration camps killed Elie s faith. After the analyzation of
the novel Night by Elie Wiesel the reader can visualize the horrors and slaughtering of millions of
innocent people that occurred in concentration camps. Throughout the book, Elie explains how his
faith in God was tested, as he was forced to leave his home, separated from his family, observe how
much was being killed all around him, and witness children being thrown into huge ditches of fire,
alive! Elie felt abandoned, betrayed, and deceived, the God that he knew was a loving and giving God,
it was then he started to doubt his existence. Elie tries to hold on to his faith but the childhood
innocence has disappeared from within him and he loses his faith completely in God, whom he
thought would rescue him from his suffering.
In the beginning of the book, Elie s faith in God is so strong that he never questioned the existence of
God. He wanted to get closer to God by studying the Jewish texts more. One day I asked my father to
find me a master who could guide me in my studies of Kabbalah (4). Elie s father rejects this idea and
says he is too young, but even after his father said no, Elie goes to Moshe the Beadle and learns the

Homeless Intervention
The Center for Evidence Based Policing defines successful interventions as place focused, mostly
proactive, and strategy focused. A majority of their effective studies share all of at least some of the
characteristics previously mentioned.
The study done by Berk and MacDonald, policing the homeless , longitudinal intervention in which
the police officers tried to eliminate big concentrations of homeless in downtown Los Angeles. This
was done by eliminating big camps, giving fines, arresting individuals and simply by being present in
the area. The authors of the study found significant reduction on property and violent crime during the
time the intervention were happening. This intervention is considered successful because in focused in
a specific area, it was proactive, and very rigorous.

the root causes of the issues, such as rent prices. Without working on root causes as well, the

Another study done by Hartmann, Crawford and Burns(2013) discusses a similar topic. The authors
write about the issue and how often police officers have to deal with homeless individuals, specially in
big cities in the U.S. It is argued that this issue is increasing and the conflict with that is the lack of
studies and information of how police officers can deal with homeless and the communities where it is
more prevalent. It is important to acknowledge that there are many reasons to explain homelessness,

Speech Team Discussion
So, you have how many kids on your speech team? 65!?! How do you have 65 kids on your team?
This question is a common question I am asked by my colleagues and friends on the speech circuit
and one that I was posed with again this past weekend. Having a large team is certainly a wonderful
situation. We fill a bus (sometimes two buses), practices are lively and busy, and finding an audience
to practice in front of is never a problem. A team this sizable requires A LOT of coaching time (each
student needs to perform individually), organization, effort, and careful planning. To compensate for
the lack of time and multiple myself, I watch film most mornings, coach every day of the school year
starting in August until the end of February, and sacrifice sleep (and sometimes my sanity) to do so.
While some people might initially think considerable roster numbers guarantees success and makes ...

As I reflect, I return to the aforementioned question. How did two students become 65 students? How
did the speech team momentum start? Fervor, passion, grit, or unabashed commitment to a cause? I
think the real answer truly lies in love for kids a desire to see them grow into incredible people who
will make a positive impact on this world and find the right students to establish traditions, a culture
that celebrates hard work, and loves to have fun. I am so grateful to have watched students grow as
performers and speakers, discover the ability to stand tall in the face of failure, and be willing to show
vulnerability in front of a crowd of people as they share ideas and messages that they hold close to
their hearts. Our words are powerful. Our connections and the relationships we build allow us to

Why, You Reckon Essay
Harlem Renaissance Works Langston Hughes was an African American writer in the 1920 s. He was
best known for his stories in the Harlem Renaissance about the Black Culture. Hughes emphasized the
theme that Black is Beautiful. In Hughes short story, Why, You Reckon, he writes through the main
character, the narrator, a poor, hongry Black. Hughes uses character and scene description, symbolism,
themes, and dialogue to set his story up and make it more interesting and historical to the reader. In
Why, You Reckon, Hughes establishes a setting through direct characterization and word choice. In
the beginning, the narrator says, Depression times before the war plants opened up and money got to

Wealth is a symbol because the two Black men think of wealth as security, not being hungry anymore,
warmth, and HAPPINESS. But wealth is a two way street. The white man, Edward, thinks of wealth
as something to waste, and UNHAPPINESS. The different view of wealth from the Edward and the
narrator ties into the main theme of the story: People are never satisfied with what they have. This was
shown throughout the story with the symbol of wealth. Some other themes in this story is lack of
power and desperation leads to violence. This theme is shown when the narrator and the other Black
Man decide to nab the first white man that looks like bucks. They are powerless, no money, starving
they resorted to violence because of it. Another theme that takes place in this story is money does not
buy happiness. Neither the narrator nor Edward are happy. One is rich, the other, is dirt poor. A big
theme in this story that applies to a lot of history is that by breaking the law and envying the rich there
will still be one left empty handed. Whether it is something small like robbing a rich person or
something big by overruling a government there is still going to be someone who is not benefiting.
Even if it is for a good cause. Dialogue was important to this story as well. But one line was so
important to the story that it made the title. What do you suppose is the matter with rich white folks?
Why you reckon they ain t happy? The meaning to this phrase started

Chlorophyll a green pigment, present in all green plants responsible for the absorption of light to
provide energy for photosynthesis.
8.3 Key Concepts
The process of photosynthesis needs light in its reactions as well as the Calvin cycle
The light dependent reactions produce oxygen gas and convert ADP and NADP+ into energy and
NADHP. The light dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid.
The Calvin cycle refers to the light independent reactions in photosynthesis that take place in three
key steps. Although the Calvin Cycle is not directly dependent on light, it is indirectly dependent on
light since the necessary energy carriers (ATP and NADPH) are products of light dependent reactions.

Technology And New Media Art
There are numerous upon numerous different styles of art from traditional art to new media art.
Traditional genres of art such as painting, drawing and ceramics create pieces of work that are done by
hand. Unlike traditional art, new media art has pieces of work created by digital machines and other
technological devices. In addition, digital media art can be in a form of a video, sculpture, installation
art ,photography, robotics, audio and many other formulations.
In the reading New Media Art Introduction written by Mark Tribe, the author talks about technology
and art becoming new media art. together. According to Tribe in the reading, We use the term New
Media art to describe projects that make use of emerging media technologies and are concerned with
the cultural, political, and aesthetic possibilities of these tools (Tribe, 1). In this quote, the the author
interprets new art form as electrical pieces of work to help give out a message; whether it is
controversial, aesthetic, or racial topics that connect within our society. In addition, new media art can
represent all of these element, some of these elements or even one of these elements. I strongly agree
with the author s definition of new media art because in learning and researching about new media I
have found three new media artists that support the author s definition. These new media artist are
Aleksandar Srnec, Katherine Behar and Camille Turner.
The first new media artist I found researching was

Writing Rediscovered
Most of us never think about the technology we use when writing, whether we are jotting down our To
Do lists or pulling out a pencil for an exam, we do it without much thought. Walter Ong tells us
Although we take writing so much for granted as to forget that it is a technology, writing is in a way
the most drastic of the three technologies of the word (321). I believe that many of us would agree that
although we may not consider writing to be a drastic technology, we would say that it is an important
one.
For me there has never really been a reason to put much thought into the act of writing. I have put a lot
of thought in to what to write or how to write it, but never the physical component of ... Show more

Since the piece of wood I used had not fallen from the tree itself, it is obvious that someone had to use
a saw to cut it. I did not use any tools myself but rather left the large piece of firewood as it was. I
hunted for wild berries in a wooded area near my home and found some small red ones on a wild
bush. I would like to believe that this bush grew there naturally, but I somehow cannot fully believe
that there was no technology involved in the placement of that bush. To produce the words that I
needed to write I squeezed the red berry juice onto the log and wrote, I love my three kids Meagan,
Maddy and Emma and Eddie too my name is Amy Lynn Johnson. It proved to be very difficult to
write those eighteen words for many reasons. First, it was difficult to write small enough to fit so
many words onto my log because the juice from the berries would run. I also found that the berries
had to be extremely ripe in order to produce the dark red juice, for if they were not yet ready the juice
inside ran clear. Next, I found that without a sharp point it was difficult to even shape or form the
letters themselves, and the rounded edges of the berries were not strong enough to withstand the
pressure that my hand was placing on them.
I found out, when it rained, that this writing material would not be permanent due to the fact that my
berry ink was washed away. This invention has proved to be very unreliable in keeping text for any

The Roswell Ufo Crash Essay
The Roswell UFO Crash
In 1947 a UFO was seen near the town of Roswell, New Mexico. It was witnessed by many of the
residents and was described as something not of this planet. The government denies any evidence of
this event occurring and has covered it up for may years. Now that more information has become
available to the public, it is clear that something extraordinary happened.
The town of Roswell, New Mexico was the location of many UFO sightings in the later 1940 s and

Lt. Marcel had collected many samples from the crashed object on the day of the crash and shown it to

The objects were confiscated by the government and the life of Marcel s son was threatened. His

several years of denying the events, the government was demanded by the public to declassify all of
the Roswell records. It was to become public soon after when it was reported that the records had been

children, thus I felt quite alone. An area I did manage to shine in however, was my academics. Upon

Comparing and Contrasting Farm and Factory Jobs Essay
Working on a farm or in a factory has both similarities and differences, but moving from a rural to a
city job could be quite difficult. Farm and factory jobs are similar because they are dangerous and
require intense physical labor. Both the farm and factory jobs have daily hazards. In 2009, farming
continues to be the most dangerous job in the United States, due to the constant risk of animal
stampedes or agricultural machinery accidents. In factories, like Grede Foundries, ear and eye
protection against deafening crashes and flying sparks is required, as well as having all skin covered to
prevent from hot metal burns. However, the most noticeable similarity is the amount of physical labor
needed in both Wauwatosa and Elkhorn workplaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Krusen Grass Farms in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, almost all of the work is done outdoors, with the
exception of making hay, milking, and pasteurizing. On the contrary, in Wauwatosa at Grede
Foundries, all work is completed indoors. Beside work location differences, the typical work hours
between farms and factories vary. In 2009, almost all farm owners (like Altfrid Krusenbaum) work
seventy to eighty hours per week, year round. On the other end of the spectrum, factory laborers, at
Grede Foundries, work forty hours per week and have off two or three days weekly. The final notable
difference is the overall focus on nature or machinery; the simple, natural, wholesome farm life
contrasts with the technical and mechanical responsibilities of a factory worker. Whether through
work hours or work place, factory and farm laborers have a differing employment experience. The
journey of a farm worker moving to a factory in United States history would be problematic, due to
the change in environmental exposures. While the old homestead was relatively quiet, the
industrialized factory was filled with deafening clamor, which could result in hearing loss. Also,
mastering the new factory machinery could take time to learn, and lives may be sacrificed along the
way. In the 1900s, the factory death rates rose because naïve

The Effects Of Viral Load On Hiv Essay
On November 10, 2016, a new report was released to the public about a special type of microchip that
can test the amount of viral load of HIV in less than 30 minutes. This test can be completely self
administered. The user can check the viral load amount in the bloodstream by placing a drop of their
blood on the microchip, which looks similar to that of a USB drive. This microchip is then inserted
into a computer, tablet, or other handheld device. The results can be achieved in less than 30 minutes,
and many users had an answer in about 21 minutes with 95% accuracy. The current method requires
sending blood to a laboratory and can take at least three days, if not longer, to detect the viral load
present. This microchip can help to monitor those patients who are receiving treatment, but do not
have access to local clinics. Researchers hope that this device can specifically help in Sub Saharan
Africa and other rural areas which may not have easy access to testing facilities nearby (Imperial
College London: 2016). This new microchip received a lot of publicity for a few major reasons. While
it is not currently commercially available, it provided a proof of concept for a point of care method for
the detection of the viral load of HIV present. This is the first report of an on chip detection of RNA
via microchip. While there are a few similar products that are close to market or in development, they
all require lab equipment and a desktop instrument to find results, whereas

Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman
Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article
brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women
were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I
must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are
considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are
locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their
husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... Show more

The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t
realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she
will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in
her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred
towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with
the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a
second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This
evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be
awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many
passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will
make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the
malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the
stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act
undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what

Theme Of Motifs In The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales there are four main genre motifs that many of the tales share. These ‎
‎genre
motifs repeat themselves in the telling of a tale and allow one to classify the tales ‎
according to where
their plot fits best. The author, Geoffrey Chaucer, does this to show ‎
something important about The
Canterbury Tales and give some of his insight of the things he ‎
believed in at that time. One of the
main genre motifs that many tales share is the moral ‎
behavior motif. Tales that are part of this motif
are related to the ideals of Christianity and how ‎
people in the tale behave. Both in the Pardoner s tale
and the Friar s tale, the tales show the ‎
motif of moral behavior as they revolve around characters that

Aims And Objectives Of Employment Regulation
Activity 1
1.1 Explain the aims and objectives of employment regulation.
The aim of employment law regulation is to provide legal protection to employees and employers the
relationship between businesses.
Objectives of Employment Law:
Social justice is the distribution of difference in society and is based on equality and its opportunity.
Within the workplace, social justice also refers to access to rights and fairness.
Employee protection employment rights are designed to balance the expectations of the job with the

and his/her employment contract.
European law
As part of the European Union, the UK is a subject to European law, with European law having
authority and take the place of any domestic law. This means that domestic law should be done in the
same way with European law.
Most EU law is also introduced into UK law via statutes. European Union directive can be interpreted
into domestic law as it is less specific and most European Union influence on UK employment law
has been through directives.
The sources of employment law are:

the everyday world. You can see this in his poem simply titled Anecdote of the Jar . On first glance,
this poem seems insignificant and not very interesting but if you look at it closely the beauty shines
through. The poem can seem dry and boring when he describes the jar, And round it was... the jar was

poetry style that stressed absolute precision in presenting the image itself rather than oblique
description. Another interesting aspect of Stevens poetry is that it can be perceived multiple ways. The
jar was round upon the ground / And tall and of port in the air. This line could be read as the jar being
round, tall, and large; or the port could be a metaphor comparing the jar and air to the port and sea, a
passage way (lines 7 8). It (the jar) did not give of bird or bush. The line could be perceived

The Culver City City Council Meeting Essays
On Monday, April 13th, 2009, I visited the Culver City city council meeting, and found that they
operate using a council manager form of government. For a city with a population of about 38,000,
this type of governmental structure is fairly common, and I was not surprised to see it in action in a
community where the median household income is around $56,000 a year. Culver City is also a
culturally rich community with a 60 percent Caucasian population, and a quarter of the residents are
either of African American or Asian decent. The mayor, D. Scott Malsin, is one of five members on

suggested that instead of contracting out a consultant, he wondered if there could be a permanent

In the first chapter, Coyne discusses the basic concept outline of evolution, and brings clarity to the

Better Than Revenge
A warm evening breeze blew through Reese Todd s short blonde hair as she took long strides towards

Never had she dared explore this city even though it was only about 75 miles from her vacation home

ended up squeezing through any space she could find to get ahead. As she neared the field, screams of
excitement filled her ears, but later, those would have a different meaning. The doors flew open to the
security checkpoint and she was able to pick up her pace. The savory smell of buttery popcorn and hot
dogs blended perfectly with the sweet aromas of cotton candy and soda. The guard at the door ushered

Clara barton lead the American red cross______.Clara barton was a humanitarian who proved courageous as a women and brave as an army nurse.____ I was born Christmas day in the small town of north oxford, Massachusetts. The year was 1821 and I was the 5th and last child of sarah and Stephen barton. We were a middle class family and my parents were hard workers who cared for me very much. I have four siblings , two sisters and two brothers, whos ages ranged from 10 17 when I was born. For years to come they woild teach me many skills, some which would help me later on. I was a very shy child but I kept myself busy with my studies . I was well spoken and well read(according to my parents) and when I started school I could spell 3 syllable words. Other things I was taught at a youngs age, mainly by my siblings, were things as in how to play sports, skip stones, and tasks like sewing and cooking. My parents had hopes that over time I would become less shy, but when I wtill avoided things such as public speaking they sent me to boarding school. These were some of the worst weeks of my life. I became so sick I stopped talking and eating all together. Once my parents realized their plan did not work I was taken back home. • 3. The Geographies Of The Iroquois And Iroquois Tribe Before 1492, when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, there were many tribes living in North America. Two equally similar and different ones were the Iroquois tribe and the Cherokee tribe. On one hand, they are similar because of their geographies and their economies. On the other hand, they are different because of their cultures and religious beliefs. The geographies of the Iroquois and Cherokee tribes are alike in multiple ways. For instance, the Iroquois lived in the Northeast region; they lived in New York and near Ontario River, Canada and along the Saint Lawrence River. The Cherokee tribe lived in the Southeast region and in parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, mostly. This means that both the Cherokee and the Iroquois tribes lived in the East. Additionally, the Iroquois tribe got around by walking and using canoes. The Cherokee tribe travelled on foot, wagons, and boats. This shows that both tribes walked and used boats to transport themselves from place to place. In summary, the geographies of the Iroquois and Cherokee are similar in a numerous amount of ways. • 4. What Is The Personification In The Dream Of The Rood Dream of the Rood 1. The speakers described in the story are referred to as the dreamer and a cross. The cross is given huge personification inside the story as it is an inanimate object. Both speakers view Christ as a selfless hero. They use the names such as heavens Lord, the wielder of victories, the prince of glory, and heavens Guardian to describe him. The poet describes Christ as someone who has won a great battle against the sins of mankind. By winning this battle he is able to rebirth into a society that is more holy than it ever was before. This to the poet is something so mighty that it alone has the power to buy true happiness and peace for all of mankind. 2. Word structure and style of the poem leaves a flowy, serene feel throughout the story. The use of personification in terms of the cross and the mass amounts of imagery brings out an outworldly presence. The inner thoughts of the dreamer can be easily confused with reality and leaves the reader wondering what is actually happening and what isn t. Riddles add to the flow of the poem by providing a fantasy feel. The Wanderer 1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The wanderer inside this poem is perceived as such because he has lost everything and is searching for a new place to start over. He wonders endlessly from place to place to find what he used to have in his life. The wanderer is looking to rebuild his life because he has lost his structure. I believe this is relevant to the universal situation that many people face going through life. There are many times when we lose things or people that mean the world to us and we have to start over. It s important to not take what is right in front of us for granted. We will all eventually passed away so it s important to be content rather than wondering endlessly for what we don t have or else we will die unhappy and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay Comparing Frankenstein And Modern Prometheus With hundreds of thousands of songs, books, movies, and art dedicated to this one emotion, there is plenty of evidence that when it comes to human interaction love is an extremely powerful emotion that can have a transforming effect. In contrast, a lack of love can also have effects, especially dire or negative ones for those who are in need. Behind Mary Shelley s Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus is a main character who cherishes himself, his own pride, and has grand plans in mind for his legacy, all of which could possibly have positive results, but do not feature a plan or a personality ripe with love. In contrast, Goethe s Faust also features a character who is strong willed and very smart, but without a strong sense of love for others in his life, he also faces negative results. Both works could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the very poignant quote of A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart (Goethe Part 1), Faust still yearns for more than the heart, more than what love can offer to one s life. He seems pained by the lack of knowledge in his life: Oh, God! Art is long / And life is short (558 559), but when speaking of what he can feel, the lament is not nearly as strong: You can t, if you can t feel it, if it never / Rises from the soul, and sways / The heart of every single hearer, / With deepest power, in simple ways. / You ll sit forever, gluing things together, / Cooking up a stew from other s scraps, / Blowing on a miserable fire, / Made from your heap of dying ash. / Let apes and children praise your art, / If their admiration s to your taste, / But you ll never speak from heart to heart, / Unless it rises up from your heart s space. (535 545) Faust has perhaps already resigned himself to a loveless life, or perhaps his strong feelings for acclaim and knowledge cloud the possibilities of what love can bring to one s life, if one only lets it rise ... John Coltrane is the most influential African American jazz saxophonist and composer in the development of modern jazz of the 20th century. He was born at Hamlet Avenue on September 23, 1926. And at the year of 1938, his relatives beside his mother and a close cousin all died within a few months of one another, like his father, aunt and grandparents, so John was raised by his mother. In September 1943, John got his first saxophone from his kind mother, an alto. And at the same year, he entered the Ornstein School of Music, studied saxophone and the music theory course. In 1945, he had his first professional gigs, and at the same year, Coltrane enlisted in the U.S. Navy. • 7. How 5-HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key... How 5 HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key question of interest. Despite being cation channels, NMDA receptors have non linear, voltage dependent conductance (Mayer and Westbrook, 1987). This property results from the voltage dependent Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels (Mayer et al., 1984; Nowak et al., 1984) and thus leads to the negative slope conductance in the current voltage relationship (i.e. I V curve; Nowak et al., 1984; Flatman et al., 1983; MacDonald et al., 1982). Because of the voltage dependent conductance, NMDA receptor activation generates intrinsic voltage oscillations in spinal neurons of rat (Hochman et al., 1994a; Hochman et al., 1994b) and amphibian (Sillar and Simmers, 1994a; Sillar and Simmers, 1994b) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the cord preparations with TTX treatment, 5 HT application reintroduced the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of healthy motoneurons failing to show the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Moreover, in other motoneurons showing the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone, 5 HT caused the negative slope conductance to shift toward the hyperpolarizing direction, which could be reversed by 5 HT antagonist mianserin (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Reducing the bath concentration of Mg2+ also mimicked the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance by 5 HT (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Via 5 HT2 receptor activation, protein kinase C (PKC) can enhance the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of NMDA receptors and also reduce Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels (Blank et al., 1996; Chen and Huang, 1992). Therefore, the effect of 5 HT on the negative slope conductance of NMDA receptors may result from reduction of Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels. Even more interestingly, Li and Zhuo (1998) discovered that 5 HT can induce the transformation of silent glutamatergic synapses into functional ones in some rat superficial dorsal horn neurons (Li and Zhuo, 1998). They detected silent synapses, which are excitatory postsynaptic currents mediated by NMDA receptors, by depolarizing the cells from 70 mV to +40 mV (Li and Zhuo, 1998). However, 5 HT ... This investment is normally completed by private equity firm, venture capital firm, or an informal investor named business angel. They raise funds and invest it on behalf of their investors. There are four most well known investment strategies, i.e. venture capital (VC), leveraged buy out (LBO), mezzanine debt and distressed debt investments. It is distinguishable that VC usually targets the start up firms while LBO purchases majority control in a developed and mature firm. The total global PE assets under management (AUM) in 2013 has climbed up to $3,466 billion, the highest value to date and has remained a steadily growth throughout the past 6 years after financial crisis (Appendix figure 1). This is partially attributed to a sharp decline of exit activity resulted from crisis, led to more capital calls, improved fundraising and thus expansion of AUM. Between 1990 and 2008, capital committed in PE were growing at 20% compounding rate annually, with some acquired firms have become popular due to the popularity of PE, such as Domino s Pizza and Toys R . However, following the financial crisis in 2008, the private equity industry has been confronting momentous challenges yet continuous to recover with signs of performance rebounding. Morality of Population Control of Bangladesh Essay Morality of Population Control of Bangladesh ABSTRACT: The rapid rate of population growth in the last half of the present century causes anxiety about the future of humanity because the amount of resources needed to satisfy basic necessities is extremely large. Correspondingly, the satisfaction of basic needs cannot be the sole criterion of the good life. Human beings have a right to live a life composed of things that make life go best. The case of Bangladesh shows that the majority of people live a life barely worth living, a life morally undesirable. One major reason is the rapid increase in population. One of the main reasons of this bleak picutre of Bangladesh is its inability to keep the number of people within tolerable limits. In this condition it is not desirable that people will knowingly produce children who would most likely live a life not worthy of living a life so miserable that it would be better not having been born at all. Narveson thinks that unhappiness that a prospective person will experience constitutes a moral reason not to bring her or him (2) into existence while happiness which she or he is likely to experience if born provides no moral reason to produce her or him. Morality seeks to promote good and avoid harm or prevent suffering. Not harming people takes moral preference than benefitting them. A moral justification, therefore, exists to avoid conception so that a probable child would not be in abject poverty or suffer any form of adversities. Ernest Hemingway s The Big Two-Hearted River Hemingway s 1925 short story, The Big Two Hearted River, originally from the collection of short stories entitled In Our Time, engages in an introspective identity crisis, which arises after the book s protagonist, Nick, returns from World War I. While Nick attempts to navigate his life outside of combat, Hemingway takes him on a journey of reconciliation and self discovery. Embarking on his journey into nature, Nick submerges himself in a life of what seems to be pure tranquility. In Nick s eyes, society subjects people to violence, but nature is inherently good. Shortly after, Hemingway provides Nick with tangible evidence opposing his original thoughts. Hemingway brings to light the fact that both society and nature have subliminal binaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After experiencing moments of loss and violence, Nick chooses to return to the one place of constancy he knows, which is nature. In nature, Nick believes that he can escape the brutality and hate that humanity creates. Leaving behind the burned town of Seney and choosing to enter the natural world, Nick [feels] he [has] left everything behind, the need for thinking, the need to write, other needs. It was all back of him, (Hemingway 179). Hemingway subtly suggests that Nick has been plagued with an endless list of realities that have consumed him for far too long. Nick s escape from reality provides brief moments of solitude and rest from his bustling world. Amidst the burned and destroyed town of Seney a river remains untouched, providing a symbol of hope. While Seney seems broken, the possibility of new beginnings and life exists. This binary is parallel in Nick s life as well. Nick actively chooses to pursue new beginnings instead of dwelling on the memories of his past, but is quickly reminded that he cannot escape the parts of his life that play a large part in his identity. Attempting to escape the pressing realities of life back home, Nick notices that the problems he internalizes in his own life are apparent in nature as well. While fishing and rivers seems to be a place of happiness and healing for Nick, reality finds a way to creep in. Looking at a trout in the river, Nick s heart tightened as the trout moved. He felt all the old feeling, (Hemingway 178). Nick does not reveal the old feeling or who/what is associated with that feeling. • 13. The History and Function of the Condom Introduction The condom is a barrier device that is used since ancient times. Many couples do not want to get pregnant but still want to have sexual intercourse. In this circumstance, one way is to wear a condom. AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), is a pandemic that caused 36 million deaths worldwide (citation: UNAIDS.org, 2012) caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). One of the reasons why it spread so quickly is because of sexual contact. The men s body fluid (semen) is spread into the women s body, which means the woman is also contracted with AIDS. But with the help of the condom, the number of people newly infected by AIDS greatly reduced. The condom does not stop AIDS, it stops AIDS from spreading. Throughout history, there are many different types of condoms, from the earliest leather condoms, to rubber, and now the Polyisoprene (Natural rubber). The most commonly used is the 1920 Latex Condom, which is the one I will focus on in this essay. How the condom works Human reproduction works when an erect penis is inserted into the vagina and the man thrust it in and out until ejaculation occurs. The semen (liquid that includes sperm and other liquid) is released into the vagina. The sperm travels along the vagina and meets the egg, where the sperm fertilizes the egg. The sperm and egg forms a zygote. The zygote later forms into an embryo cell and is implanted onto the endometrium (the uterus wall); this is the beginning of pregnancy. (Y9 Reproduction ... Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish ambition is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less detrimental to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation. In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as seducers and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil counselors, sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life betrayed the confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly deceived without concern for their victims psyche or physical being. Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound fraud. Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather twisted the confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin or country. They either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. I was 11 years old and had just moved to a new school. As a child, I was exceptionally shy. I didn t stand out from my peers, and I had no experience in making new friends. I found that the friends I had before were founded off my parents friends children, thus I felt quite alone. An area I did manage to shine in however, was my academics. • 28. Comparing and Contrasting Farm and Factory Jobs Essay Working on a farm or in a factory has both similarities and differences, but moving from a rural to a city job could be quite difficult. Farm and factory jobs are similar because they are dangerous and require intense physical labor. Both the farm and factory jobs have daily hazards. In 2009, farming continues to be the most dangerous job in the United States, due to the constant risk of animal stampedes or agricultural machinery accidents. In factories, like Grede Foundries, ear and eye protection against deafening crashes and flying sparks is required, as well as having all skin covered to prevent from hot metal burns. However, the most noticeable similarity is the amount of physical labor needed in both Wauwatosa and Elkhorn workplaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At Krusen Grass Farms in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, almost all of the work is done outdoors, with the exception of making hay, milking, and pasteurizing. On the contrary, in Wauwatosa at Grede Foundries, all work is completed indoors. Beside work location differences, the typical work hours between farms and factories vary. In 2009, almost all farm owners (like Altfrid Krusenbaum) work seventy to eighty hours per week, year round. On the other end of the spectrum, factory laborers, at Grede Foundries, work forty hours per week and have off two or three days weekly. The final notable difference is the overall focus on nature or machinery; the simple, natural, wholesome farm life contrasts with the technical and mechanical responsibilities of a factory worker. Whether through work hours or work place, factory and farm laborers have a differing employment experience. The journey of a farm worker moving to a factory in United States history would be problematic, due to the change in environmental exposures. While the old homestead was relatively quiet, the industrialized factory was filled with deafening clamor, which could result in hearing loss. Also, mastering the new factory machinery could take time to learn, and lives may be sacrificed along the way. In the 1900s, the factory death rates rose because naïve ... • 30. The Effects Of Viral Load On Hiv Essay On November 10, 2016, a new report was released to the public about a special type of microchip that can test the amount of viral load of HIV in less than 30 minutes. This test can be completely self administered. The user can check the viral load amount in the bloodstream by placing a drop of their blood on the microchip, which looks similar to that of a USB drive. This microchip is then inserted into a computer, tablet, or other handheld device. The results can be achieved in less than 30 minutes, and many users had an answer in about 21 minutes with 95% accuracy. The current method requires sending blood to a laboratory and can take at least three days, if not longer, to detect the viral load present. This microchip can help to monitor those patients who are receiving treatment, but do not have access to local clinics. Researchers hope that this device can specifically help in Sub Saharan Africa and other rural areas which may not have easy access to testing facilities nearby (Imperial College London: 2016). This new microchip received a lot of publicity for a few major reasons. While it is not currently commercially available, it provided a proof of concept for a point of care method for the detection of the viral load of HIV present. This is the first report of an on chip detection of RNA via microchip. While there are a few similar products that are close to market or in development, they all require lab equipment and a desktop instrument to find results, whereas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman... Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what character is doing the narration in the context ... • 32. Theme Of Motifs In The Canterbury Tales In The Canterbury Tales there are four main genre motifs that many of the tales share. These ‎ ‎genre motifs repeat themselves in the telling of a tale and allow one to classify the tales ‎ according to where their plot fits best. The author, Geoffrey Chaucer, does this to show ‎ something important about The Canterbury Tales and give some of his insight of the things he ‎ believed in at that time. One of the main genre motifs that many tales share is the moral ‎ behavior motif. Tales that are part of this motif are related to the ideals of Christianity and how ‎ people in the tale behave. Both in the Pardoner s tale and the Friar s tale, the tales show the ‎ motif of moral behavior as they revolve around characters that break some ideals of Christianity ‎ by taking part in some immoral behavior.‎... In the ‎ Pardoner s prologue it even states that radix malorum est cupiditas , meaning the love of ‎ money is the root of all evil . The statement that money is the root of evil then becomes the moral ‎ of the story and shows how greed led the men to do an immoral thing. However, even after the ‎ tale ends one can still see that the motif of moral behavior is still a part in the tale because the ‎ Pardoner tries to sell his relics. The pardoner knows that the relics are not real but his love for ‎ money drives him to want to do anything he can, including tricking his fellow friends, to buying ‎ relics. Therefore, an irony takes place because although the Pardoner warns that the love of ‎ money is the root of all evil, he himself commits and immoral things due to his love of wealth. ... Wallace Stevens will always be remembered as one of the great modernist American Poets. Wallace Stevens ability to transcend the limits of experience, combined with his technical prowess as a poet, makes for otherworldly poetry of the everyday world. You can see this in his poem simply titled Anecdote of the Jar . On first glance, this poem seems insignificant and not very interesting but if you look at it closely the beauty shines through. The poem can seem dry and boring when he describes the jar, And round it was... the jar was gray and bare (lines 2 and 10). Even though these lines might seem boring it is part of Stevens Imagist poetry style that stressed absolute precision in presenting the image itself rather than oblique description. Another interesting aspect of Stevens poetry is that it can be perceived multiple ways. The jar was round upon the ground / And tall and of port in the air. This line could be read as the jar being round, tall, and large; or the port could be a metaphor comparing the jar and air to the port and sea, a passage way (lines 7 8). It (the jar) did not give of bird or bush. The line could be perceived ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Culver City City Council Meeting Essays On Monday, April 13th, 2009, I visited the Culver City city council meeting, and found that they operate using a council manager form of government. For a city with a population of about 38,000, this type of governmental structure is fairly common, and I was not surprised to see it in action in a community where the median household income is around $56,000 a year. Culver City is also a culturally rich community with a 60 percent Caucasian population, and a quarter of the residents are either of African American or Asian decent. The mayor, D. Councilman Armenta was worried that the council would not have any oversight over the process of awarding geotechnical service agreements to particular firms, and that the amounts given to a particular firm could wind up being an exorbitant amount of money. Vice mayor Silbiger had similar fears. Silbiger suggested that instead of contracting out a consultant, he wondered if there could be a permanent consulting position, but the city manager disagreed because the city needs to bring in all sorts of consultants with varying expertise. Which stands in dissimilarity to many other treatments of evolution, which all have a propensity to confuse some readers by integrating different meanings of the word.
