This document presents the results of a physico-chemical analysis of groundwater samples from 7 wells in Hambardi Village, India. The objectives were to analyze water quality parameters, check potability, and identify any polluted areas. Water samples were tested for pH, conductivity, COD, hardness, calcium, magnesium, phosphates, sulphates, and nitrates. The results found that pH levels in two samples exceeded limits, and COD was above limits in two other samples. Some samples also had lower hardness levels than the minimum limit. However, other parameters like phosphates, nitrates, sodium and potassium were within prescribed limits. The analysis helps identify areas for remedial measures to improve local water quality.

The most serious pollution threat to groundwater is from TDS, Total Hardness, salinity, Calcium, chloride and Fe, which are associated with sewage and pollution of tannery waste. Hence, suggested to take proper care to avoid contamination of groundwater pollution through periodic monitoring of the water quality.
Over the last decade, demand for spring management has increased as traditional spring sources have started drying up or becoming contaminated. In response, communities, NGOs and state agencies began dedicated spring protection programmes. In the Himalayas, the State of Sikkim and organizations such as Central Himalayan Action and Research Group (CHIRAG) and People Science Institute (PSI) started identifying and protecting spring recharge areas around 2007. The difference between these programmes and many other previous efforts is that they went beyond supply-side improvements to focus on the use of hydrogeology to map springsheds for targeted interventions.
The Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), a research and capacity-building organization comprised of hydrogeologists and other experts began lending their expertise and building capacity of stakeholders. ACWADAM provides technical support, training and materials in hydrogeology to all network partners as well as others in India and the region. Similar programmes began independently in most of the mountain regions of India. Arghyam, a funding organization that was supporting many of these programmes, noticed that these disparate initiatives shared commonalities despite geographic diversity. They thus organized and funded a meeting of these various organizations in June 2014, and the Springs Initiative was born.
The springs initiative aims to tackle the current water crisis and to ensure safe and sustainable access to water for all, by promoting responsible and appropriate management of aquifers, springsheds, and watersheds and conserving ecosystems in partnership with communities, governments and other stakeholders.
This presentation has been developed as a part of the springs initiative to promote an understanding of springs and their role in mountainous areas.

Groundwater quality in the study area has been analysed in the present work. For this study, a part of Mumbai
Metropolitan Region were selected which covers almost the entire area. Fifteen water samples, from various bore wells
covering the study area during post monsoon season 2013 were collected to find out the values of different parameters in the
groundwater so as to check the suitability for construction. The tests for different parameters like, chloride, Sulphates,
suspended solids, Inorganic material, organic material, limits of acidity and, limits of alkalinity were performed by using
Standard procedures and the results were compared with IS456 guidelines. All samples, except two (In Virar and Vasai’ where sulphate’ content was more than 1600 mg/l.) are suitable for construction. Samples from ‘Old Panvel’, ‘Virar’ and
‘Nalasapora’ were tested for the suitability for irrigation also, since the ground water is used for irrigation in those areas. The
important parameters affecting for irrigation purposes are: Electrical Conductivity (EC), Sodium adsorption ratio (SAR),
Sodium percentage (Na %) and Residual sodium carbonate (RSC). All the parameter values were within the permissible range, hence the ground water from the said areas is suitable for irrigation.

Analysis of groundwater quality of visnagar taluka, mehasana district gujaratvishvam Pancholi
Ground water is the principal source of drinking water in our country and indispensable source of our life. The quality of water is of vital concern for mankind, since it is directly linked to human welfare. The present work investigated various physiochemical parameters of villages of Visnagar taluka of Mehsana district, Gujarat. Because of north Gujarat is affected by various water quality parameters like fluoride is high in many parts of north Gujarat. A total of 50 water samples will be collected from the tube wells for post-monsoon season and analyzed for the various physiochemical parameters like pH, electrical conductivity (EC), nitrate (NO3-), magnesium (Mg2+), Calcium (Ca2+), hardness, and alkalinity, sulphates (SO42-), chloride (Cl-), sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), Fluoride (F-) and total dissolved solids (TDS). The result were compared with standards prescribed by IS: 10500(2012). It was found that the ground water contaminated at 16 sampling sites namely Khadalpur, Chhogala, Sunshi, Denap, Jetalvasana, Tarabh, Visnagar Rural, Bhalak, Kamalpur (GOT), Kamalpur (KHA), Kansa, Magaroda, Pudgam, Sadutala, Thalota, Vadu while other 34 sampling sites showed physiochemical parameters within the water quality standards and quality of water is good so it is fit for drinking uses.

Water samples were collected from different sources of Silchar Municipal area of Cachar district, Assam, India.
Physicochemical parameter such as PH
, EC, Hardness, Chloride, Fluorides, Iron, TDS of sixteen water samples
from different sampling sites of Silchar were determined. The experimental results were compared with
drinking water quality standards laid down by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and World Health
Organization (WHO) and it was found that only a few water samples are not suitable for drinking and other
domestic purposes due to high concentration of iron. Overall all the ground water is clear, odourless and soft.
Even few samples contain fluoride ion but the values are much below the permissible limits.
CHARACTERIZATION OF LEACHATE FROM MUNCIPAL LANDFILL AND ITS EFFECT ON SURROUN...Dr. Naveen BP
Percolating water passing through waste becomes contaminated and will have dissolved soluble organic and inorganic compounds as well as suspended particles. Also the pore fluid of the waste is often released and mixes with this water. The entire contaminated fluid is called leachate. There are many factors that affect leachate production like annual precipitation, runoff, infiltration, evaporation, transpiration, and freezing, mean ambient temperature, waste composition, waste density, initial moisture content, and depth of the waste fill. The production of leachate reduces when a landfill is closed. The decomposition of waste in presence of water can be separated into two different phases of degradation viz., initial aerobic and subsequent anaerobic. Generally, the leachate undergoes natural chemical changes over time that reduces its toxicity. Some of the soluble contaminants enrich the water table, or the saturated zone. Some of remaining molecules naturally adsorbed to the clay liner particles. The paper discusses the characteristics of leachate generated from municipal solid waste landfill and its effect on surrounding water bodies near Mavallipura landfill area in Bangalore. Two samples of water from the nearby pond and well were collected from downstream of Mavallipura landfill site. Physico-chemical characterization of leachate has shown that the leachate contains high concentrations of organic and inorganic constituents beyond the permissible limits. While the heavy metals concentration was in traces as the waste is dumped in the landfill is mainly domestic in nature. The pH of the leachate is marginally alkaline as the pH is 7.4. The results also showed that the highest metal concentration that exists in the leachate was Iron which is about of 11.16 ppm. BOD5 and COD of the leachate are 1500 mg/l and 10400 mg/l, respectively. The leachate characteristics indicate favorable growth of algae in natural water contaminated with leachate with the alkaline condition and with the presence of magnesium as nutrient, which has been confirmed in the nearby surface pond. Knowledge of leachate quality will be useful in planning and providing remedial measures to protect surface and ground water quality in the area.

Abstract— 11 wells in Wadi Fatimah were chosen to perform this study. The studied area was classified into three regions namely Abo-Hassani, Al-Khief, and Allaf. In Abo-Hassani, the water quality agrees with the WHO standards. The TDS was between 175 and 339 ppm. The hardness was below 193 ppm. The sodium and the chloride were below 71 and 63 ppm, respectively. The water here suffers from the presence of E.Coli. In Al-Kheif region, the water suffers from the high TDS 1077 ppm and the presence of E. Coli. In Allaf region the TDS was high a little (487 ppm), but still within WHO standards for drinking water. In this region, the sulfate value and the total hardness were above 250 ppm, which exceeds the WHO standards.
Water is an important natural resource, which forms the cause of all life. Water is
one of the most requisite materials in our day to day life. It is a key resource in all
economic activities ranging from agriculture to industries. Only a minimal fraction of
the planet’s plentiful water is available to the living beings as fresh water. About 97%
is found in the oceans and is very salty for drinking, irrigation, or industry. The
remaining 3% is fresh water. About 2.997% of it is arrested in ice caps or glaciers or
is concealed so deep that it costs too much time & money to extract. Only about
0.0035 of Earth’s total volume of water is easily available to us as soil moisture,
exploitable ground water, water vapor, rivers, lakes and streams. In this present study
by a systematic sampling has been carried out to find the water quality parameters of
the Lake, by collecting samples from Six different positions, which covering entire
area of the lake, and the stations were distributed covering the periphery of the entire
tank, and also considering the inflow and the discharges and to suggest required
management techniques to make water free from the pollution

The study examined the physicochemical and heavy metal analysis of municipal water supply along
the distribution channels from source (raw water) to end user points of Kaduna metropolis. Water samples were
collected from the raw water sources of the treatment plants in the metropolis (Malali and Barnawa water
works), treated water from the treatment plant reservoirs, the three booster stations (Kawo, Lugard Hall and
Tudun Wada) and randomly from residential areas which includes; Malali, Barnawa, Tudun Wada, Marafa,
Kabala costain, Badiko, Kurmin Mashi and UnguwanSunusi area of the metropolis. The samples were analyzed
for pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium
hardness, alkalinity, sulphate, nitrate, DO, BOD, COD, iron and free CO2 using standard procedure described
by American public Health Association(APHA),heavy metals such as chromium, lead, nickel, copper and
cadmium were analyzed using atomic absorption spectroscopy, The result obtained was compared with the
WHO and the Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water set by the Standard Organization of Nigeria(SON). pH and
turbidity of all samples from raw water to treated water delivered to end users with mean values of pH of 5.67
for raw water and a range of 4.48-4.60 for treated water all falls above the permissible limit of 6.5-8.5, turbidity
values of 1883NTU for raw water and a range of 11.60-41.36NTU for treated water all falls above the
permissible limit of 5NTU for portable water other parameters were all within the standard limit, copper and
iron were detected in all samples but within the permissible limit ,lead ,chromium, nickel and cadmium were
above maximum permissible in all samples analyzed

we conclude that; Phosphate, Nitrates, sodium &
potassium content of the water sample collected
from different areas of Hambardi village are within
prescribed limits WHO and BIS.
But the pH of water sample from W-3 & W-7
is found to above prescribed limit. COD for the
water samples collected from W-1 & W-2 are also
found above the maximum limit suggested by WHO.
Sample water from W-2 , W-4 & W-7 area of
Hambardi village are found poor in Hardness than
prescribed limit of BIS however, it is within
permissible limit of WHO.
