• What shot type has been used? Why do you think 
that they have opted for this? 
A mid shot has been used to allow the audience to 
focus on the subject’s face and clothing. Vogue is 
a fashion magazine so a mid shot instead of a 
close-up shot was used in order for the clothing 
to be brought to the attention of the audience 
also. The flattering high-key lighting allows the 
subject to look glamorous so keeping with the 
conventional fashion magazine approach, to 
convey the intended target audience of 
fashionable women. The subject’s pose 
demonstrates elegance but is also carefully 
positioned so as to show off her makeup, nails, 
hair and other items of clothing within the shot.
• What is the colour scheme? 
Muted colours have been used such as beiges, 
creams, light and dark browns, and dark oranges. 
This allows the bright red of the logo to stand out 
against the simple background. The subject’s hair 
and jacket have cleverly been fitted to this colour 
scheme to allow focus on her pale face and dark 
hat, which stand out, along with the brighter 
orange of her jacket. The soft lighting on the 
subject’s face does not provide a harsh contrast, 
which adds to the colour scheme fitting it and 
complementing other parts of the image.

subject’s head being overlaid on top of the logo shows confidence in their 
brand image that the viewers would know what magazine it is from the 
glamour displayed and the 3 visible letters of the logo. The cover lines and 
anchorage text have been displayed in white so as to stand out against the 
musty colour scheme of the magazine in this issue, which inform the 
viewer quickly and clearly of the content inside the magazine. The direct 
address of the subject on the front cover highlights the glamour and 
elegance the magazine is trying to create for its image, and also reflects 
the confidence the magazine has for their brand image and the brand 
loyalty of its readers. There is no skyline, slogan, or covermount on this 
magazine which shows Vogue is too sophisticated to include those in their 
minimalistic magazine front cover. The target audience of young 
fashionable women in the A, B, and C1 demographic would be attracted to 
this magazine cover due to the high amount of class displayed by the 
subject through body position, facial expression and direct address.

The target audience for the magazine is young 
women of the higher classes of A, B, and C1, with 
a high sense of fashion and confidence. This is 
displayed through the elegant position and 
manner of the subject on the front of the 
magazine cover, along with the cover lines 
displaying the Spring fashion tips inside the 
magazine. On the Vogue website, the target 
audience is described as mostly between the ages 
of 20-34 years, female, with an above average 
income and in a position of high management or 
high social status.

The well-known young actress Emma Stone is 
represented on the cover of this magazine as 
an elegant young woman who is interested in 
fashion and is confident in herself and her 
body image.
