Veneer is a thin decorative wood covering that is applied to other materials. It is produced from high quality logs by steaming or pickling the logs and then slicing or peeling them into thin leaves ranging from 0.8 to 3mm thick. Laminate is a sheet made by bonding two or more layers, and is not suitable for exterior use. There are two main types: high pressure laminates which are hard decorative sheets commonly used to cover furniture, and low pressure laminates which are decorative papers bonded to particleboard or fiberboard. Veneer and laminate have various uses including decorative furniture and joinery, as well as structural applications like wet area panelling and flooring.
