The mechanics are:
1. The class will be dived into 4 groups.
2. Each group will have 1 representative to
raise their green/red flag and give the correct
answer.
3. The task of the group is to guess the name
of the television commercial based on the
tagline that will be flashed on the screen.
4. Once you know the answer, quickly raise your
flag and state your answer.
What is Propaganda?
Propaganda refers to a type of
message aimed at influencing
opinions and/or the behavior
of people. It is usually
repeated and presented over
a wide variety of media in
order to attract the interest of
a greater majority.
What is the goal of
propaganda?
The goal of propaganda is to
publicly promote something:
information put out by an
organization or government to
promote a policy, idea, or cause. It
has a misleading publicity:
deceptive or distorted information
that is systematically spread.
CARD STACKING
It is the strategy of
showing the product’s
best features. Telling
half-truths, and omitting
or lying about its
potential problems.
NAME CALLING
Is stereotyping the
competition/opposing idea with a bad
label.
They use names that evoke fear or
hatred in the viewer. Links a person,
or idea, to a negative symbol. The
most obvious type of name calling
involved “bad names.
PLAIN FOLKS
The use of everyday people to sell a
product or service. Speakers and ads
appear to be “one of the people”
Example:
Using “good” labels, such as
democratic, patriotic, amazing,
beautiful, and exciting, that are
unsupported by facts to sell the
product or idea.

BANDWAGON
The basic theme of the
bandwagon appeal is that
"everyone else is doing it,
and so should you”. This is a
technique that persuades
people by showing them that
everyone else are doing the
same thing.

person recommends a product or
service, and vouches for its value.
