PROPAGANDA
 Propaganda - is a dissemination of information
– facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths or lies to
influence public opinion.
 It also aims to make us accept or approve
something without looking closely at the
evidence.
 Most of propaganda devices(types) utilize
emotion to have the readers or listeners avoid
critical thinking.
are used to influence people's
opinions, emotions, attitudes, and
behavior.
Types of propaganda techniques/devices:
 Bandwagon
 Testimonial
 Glittering Generalities
 Card Stacking
 Name Calling
BANDWAGON
 This techniques makes you feel that you are
left out if you do not buy the product.
Everybody is following or doing what
everybody else is doing. Expressions like so
many people , 9 out of 10, most people,
everybody, etc., used to signal bandwagon.
BANDWAGON
For Examples:
TESTIMONIAL
 A famous personality or celebrity is
made to endorse the product. If a known
person like a celebrity or an expert like a
doctor talks to you about a product and
the benefits it offers, you are going to
take it more seriously than if a random
person recommends it.
TESTIMONIAL
For Examples:
 This technique uses vague or unclear words or
phrases to evoke positive feelings rather than to
convey factual information. This device
intentionally uses words that appeal to emotion
and offers no real explanation.
Glittering Generalities
Glittering Generalities
For Examples:
Card Stacking
 This device leaves out important information
and uses only beneficial facts. It gives people
or the consumer's the information "they
want to hear" , even if that information is
not based on fact or statistics. It appeals to
the listeners by way of exaggerating positive
fact and omitting negative information.
Card Stacking
For Examples:
Name Calling
 This propaganda technique links a person or
idea to negative symbol . The propagandist who
uses this hopes that the audience will reject the
person or the idea on the basis of the negative
symbol. The most obvious type of name calling
involves bad names . This propaganda is
commonly used by politicians to persuade
people not to vote their opponents.
Name Calling
For Examples:
"CLASS DEBATE"
Directions/Reminder:
• Directions : Each team
presents their arguments,
using propaganda
techniques to strengthen
their points. Encourage
the opposing team to
identify the propaganda
techniques used by the
speaking team during the
rebuttal phase.
• Reminder:
Respect each
other's
speaking time
and to remain
quiet when it's
not your turn to
speak
Propaganda Technique
Speed Round
Instructions: Students will read
out a scenario using propaganda
technique. The first student to
raise their hand and correctly
identify the technique gets a
