Their Eyes Were Watching God Figurative Language
The tides of love roll in and out, suiting each shore they meet, painting a picture of beautiful
sparkling, although sometimes turbulent waters. For Janie, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, she
grasps her life by the ropes and lets it take her on the adventure of a lifetime, never regretting the
love she felt and the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries
thrice, each time drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining
bits and pieces of self actualization. The diction, imagery, and figurative language in Zora Neal
Hurston s (ADJ) novel produces a profound effect: allowing the reader to delve into the lives of her
characters and walk with them through their trials and their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Janie reaches far to gain this horizon she seeks, enduring bad marriages and suppression via her
Nanny and first two husbands all to reach her end goal. Janie finds true love in Teacake, her final
husband and realizes love means knowing when to let go of your beloved. When Janie sees it
necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing
her husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great
fish net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived
her life to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons
stretching just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull
in her horizons, just as every person in society strives to do.
FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical
figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She
describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the
tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . This florid metaphor allows the reader to
visualize the hopes and dreams of men and gives the reader an idea of the overall struggle in
society. Metaphorically, the ships at a distance represent the struggle that many men and women
will endure to reach their dreams.

Character Analysis Of The Wonder Woman In The Superman
The difficult thing when adapting a comic is looking closely at the source material. Wonder
Woman was sort of a campy character who would look pretty ridiculous running around on the
street. Yeah, Lynda Carter rocked it back in the day, but she still looks ridiculous. Somehow, Patty
Jenkins and crew managed to not only make a great superheromovie with a female lead, but also a
great war movie. A great World War 1 movie! The last time we had a WW1 movie that took this
much care was War Horse, and that movie wasn t very good.
Premise: Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons,
trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an
American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that s raging in the outside
world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting
alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
This is the first time I walked out of a movie in the DC Extended Universe where I finally felt they
did something right, and after watching Gal Gadot debut in Batman v Superman, it also retroactively
makes that movie look better when you learn of her motivations in that film. I d explain it, but that
would really kill the realization when you see the film.
Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad were all disappointing, but this film may be
the film to put DC back on

The Importance Of Organizational Culture
The Business Dictionary defines organizational culture as values and behaviors based on shared
attitudes, beliefs, customs, and written and unwritten rules that have been developed over time (
Organizational Culture , 2017). Simply put, organizational culture is how people learn, think and
act on a daily basis within an organization. But if organizational cultureis only unique social and
psychological environments within a business, then how is it possible that it can be just as
influential as business strategy? Research suggests that a strong organizational culture is a key
competitive advantage of business because it can be the driving force behind innovationand
alignment of goals, help motivate and engage employees, and generate fierce customer loyalty.
Organizational culture, also referred to as corporate culture, is a key competitive advantage of
business because it can be the driving force behind innovation and alignment of goals. Innovation
is the foundation upon which most businesses are built. It allows businesses to offer a new or
improved product or provide a service in a way that sets them apart from competitors. Because
consumer tastes are always changing, businesses have to align innovation with their business
strategy to stay competitive. Any company can simply proclaim that their strategy will focus on
innovation but if its employees are discouraged from being creative, if output quantity drives their
paycheck, or if the company s hierarchical

Psychology Study Tips
Tips
Tips are ways to shift the balance of influence or power. When dealing with students that have
special need challenges some tips to shift the balance of influence that affect their behavior or
mood can include length of time on the bus or van, distractions, and/or disturbances. The length of
the trip on the bus can be a stress trigger for a student with special needs, such as a student with
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism. Some students may not be able to
verbally express that the length of the trip home or to school to, is stressful for them. Another tip
which can shift the balance of influence during the commute would be to identify what distracts or
disturbs each student, especially students who cannot speak. They may give you clues by
responding the way a baby would by making sounds, and/or body movements such as clapping,
reaching out, hitting, or biting. Seating and identification of triggers can tip the balance in the
favor of a safe and peaceful trip.

Anti Inflationary Policy Essay
Introduction
Anti inflationary policies are the policies taken by the government to announce inflation target
lowering it to zero, in the beginning of the year, which at that time is considered optimal. The
government wants to keep the inflation level low in an economy. It is the continuous rise in the
general price level of goods and services over a period of time in an economy. As we know inflation
can cause serious social consequences, if it s not perfectly anticipated, money as a measure of
value or as a medium of exchange is undermined.
The issue of credibility
The announcement of the government of anti inflation will form expectations and be embedded
into contracts. Wage contracts are also signed in this period. In this ... Show more content on

According to Eijffinger and Hoeberichts ( 1998), the money supply can be modelled as:

It does show that lower level of inflation will be achieved by delegating monetary policy to a
conservative and independent central bank. But if the central banker and the government has the
same inflation aversion, (Оµ=0) the independence does not matter and in the same way, if the
central bank is fully controlled by the government, (П’=0) the conservativeness does not matter,
unless it is the optimal combination of П’ and Оµ.
However, McCallum (1995) criticised this solution of reducing inflation bias. He argued that
delegation barely relocates the time inconsistency problem rather than resolving it, since the

Coming Of Age In Sparta
Brayden Drury
Coming of age can mean many different things for various cultures. Coming of age is the process
of maturing or entering into adulthood. Most cultures and religions have specific events,
ceremonies, or celebrations associated with coming of age. For a boy in ancient Sparta, coming of
age includes many spiritual, physical, intellectual, and emotional elements to overcome.
Coming of age in Sparta started moments after birth. The second a Spartan child was born, they
were tested to make sure they embodied the perfect image of a Spartan soldier. They tested
children by dipping them into a bath of wine to test their strength and determination. Spartans
believed that a weak child would convulse and die. If the child passed, they were then taken to a
group of elders. If the Elders found the child deficient in any way they would be left on the sides
of Mount Taygetos to die.
Spartan boys continued to get closer to coming of age their whole life. For example, at age
eighteen, the formal education aspect of the Agoge ended. The Agoge were a set of coming of age
schools that were designed to make the children mentally perfect ... Show more content on

The syssitia was made up of 15 others and the soldier would eat and sleep with his syssitia until
the age of 30. If a man married a woman before the age of 30, they were not permitted to live
together until the man reached the age of 30. This is the age when Spartan men were permitted
to live on their own. The only way a man was able to see his wife was to sneak out at night.
When a man and woman were married before the age of 30, women would shave themself bald
and dress as a man in order to sneak into the military compound with her husband. At the age of
30, a man was finally allowed own a home. At this age, they were also permitted to have a family

How To Write An Essay On Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis can lead to severe feet pain if it is not managed properly. A single of the best
ways to treat the condition is to use the appropriate shoes. Usually, people do not focus more on
this fact but using the right shoes does work. Even doctors say that once an injury such as
plantar fasciitis has occurred, the feet are unable to absorb the tons of bodyweight without proper
safety and support. Often, when people go looking for comfortable shoes, they may result into
getting their injury triggered even more. People normally do not know how to find the
appropriate shoes that will support their heels. Here are a few tips to consider before buying
products. 1.Firm heel support Shoes made for plantar fasciitis should offer firm support to the

A data lake is a massive, easily usable, centralized repository of large volumes of unstructured

ETL processing runs in parallel across the entire cluster resulting in much faster operations than
can be achieved pulling data from a Storage Area Network into a collection of ETL servers. ( CITO

MapReduce refers to the application modules written by a programmer that run in two phases:
first mapping the data (extract) then reducing it (transform). Hadoop scales out to large clusters
of servers and storage using the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) to manage huge data
sets and spread them across the servers. Hadoop also has YARN (Yet another Resource Navigator)
manages the clusters, and MapReduce performs data processing which helps in faster processing. (
CITO Research , 2014).
MapReduce is a framework on which you can execute programs written on Hadoop. (Programs are
written on Pig and Hive). These programs are executed and analysis is done. Further, if we need to
do statistical modeling, a tool called R or SAS can be used.
Example: Sensor data is stored in HDFS. After doing analytics, it may be found that the system has
been giving warnings about failure. R can then be used to make future predictions.

Farmer Saw The Wolf
English syntax makes it a more analytic as opposed to Japanese where word order is not so
important as the affixes of words so reordering of a sentence can still have the same meaning
even if they sound funny unlike in English where word order is the de facto method of easy
communication (Freeman Freeman, 2014, p. 194). In Finnegan (2015), the sentence: The
farmer saw the wolf is used to show how word order can explain why syntax is so important in
English; English is an SVO language or a language that predetermines where words go in a
sentence for the purpose of clear meaning, SVO stands for Subject Verb Object, whereas many
languages can be SVO or even VOS or VSO, with the knowledge that S, V, and O always stand
for Subject, Verb, and Object (Language: its structure and use, p. 57). Latin in the sentence
mentioned in the prior sentence would be able to switch the SVO around to almost any order;
Spanish is in the language family of Latin and so The farmer saw the wolf can be said as El
granjero vio al lobo , SVO, or Al lobo el granjero vio , OSV, or Vio al lobo, el granjero , VOS
(Finegan, 2015, p. 57). Furthermore, it is apparent that English syntax, or the study of sentence
structures is synonymous with much of the study of English grammar; Syntax in a reductive
explanation is the study of sentence structure (Finegan, 2015, p. 178). In chapter 1 of Curzan
(2003), theoretically, the evolution of English has eliminated its use of grammatical genderand this

Frederick Douglass Chapter 3 Analysis
In the first chapter of the book Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick douglass
gives us first hand stories about him being a young slave. Frederick was not allowed to go to his
mother s burial and he did not know his own birthday as well both of which I find very crazy
because everyone knows their birthday but for slaves that was a common occurrence, and to not
be able to see your own mother s burial sounds awful. Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his
aunt at a young age and he wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be
scaring. The whipping was a punishmentfor Douglass s aunt because she went to see another slave
from a different plantation, in my opinion this is a incredibly harsh punishment for trying to
visit another slave. Douglass Says It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to
paper the feelings with which I beheld it (Douglass 4). Douglass says this when he is talking
about his aunt getting whipped, he is saying that it was so bad to watch he could not even put his
feeling into words. All of these events emphasize how bad it really was to be a slave and stripped
of rights and to be treated like property.
Unfair slave masters
In chapter 3 douglass puts high emphasis on Colonel Lloyd and how he treated the slaves.
Douglass talks about how there are so many slaves on his plantation many of the slaves don t even
know what he looks like. Colonel Lloyd is very rich from his plantation and owns horses

The Controversy-Out Of Detroit
At a point in history where there was so much controversy over segregation and where minorities
were treated unfairly it was easy to see that there was no one solution to such a problem. One may
have anticipated that the road to equal rights would be a long and bumpy one. However, they may
not have anticipated that a start up record label out of Detroit would play an important role in the
movement towards Civil Rights. This record label would change the face of music in the 60s to
allow for young African American artists to enter the scene with a fighting chance. In 1959, an
African Americanman named Berry Gordy took initiative and started his own record label in
Detroit. This record label was originally named Tamla Records but was later... Show more content

They Produced some of the first crossover hits, songs that caught on with both black and white
audiences. Soon Motown groups like The Supremes were getting classy booking to play for
white audiences in venues like Copacabana (The Story). Gordy s insistence upon the upkeep of
an artist s style, manners, and diction was based on the style of White Americans. He knew that to
sell music his artists had to appeal to a white audience. Motown records went to great lengths to
get favorable press from white publications. The label was extremely active in promoting its artists
and music through media by establishing a tight knit relationship with Detroit, which loved
Motown and fed into its success greatly. The direct connection of Motown to a community allowed
for fans to feel as though they were part of the Motown team. Thanks to it s popularity, African
American songs and faces entered the homes of every American in the country, regardless of race,
(The Sixties). Motown achieved crossover success by adding the expectations and style of white
Americans to African American artists and the black sound that America had been rejecting. The
sound with the new, cleaned up look of the artists at Motown Records appealed to black and
white audiences everywhere. The crossover of Motown opened many doors for African
Americans during this time period by initiating the acceptance of black role models in American
society. The African American base of Motown in addition to the style and sound that appealed to
every race allowed for Motown records to play a key role in the Civil Rights Movement not only
through the creation of African American power figures but also through the records it produced to

Manners And Class Manned In Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Manners and class presented in Pride and Prejudice.
According to Margetson 1980, During the Romantic period in England manners were considered to
be more than just a greeting to one another. Having manners meant you were socially at a higher
rank. According to In Romantic period, their character and self presentation was main key to define
their rank and manners. Jane Austen engages with this idea and talk about the importance of
manners describing the way an individual character behaves according to their class and rank. She
meant that higher classes (who are from a good family and proper education) will automatically
have good manners. And the manners they have are bound up with the property and their class
rank. In Pride and prejudice manners were considered as an aspect to be learned by a society
(especially the lower class) from the higher class people s expectations. However, since manners
can be learned and they can also be lacked, so it is never automatically true that a person from an
upper class has good manners.
In Pride and Prejudice , Austen shows the lack of manners and represents the false manners of
people. Rank and class plays an important role for upper class people ... Show more content on

Starbucks Canada Case Study
1. Data, information and flows
The notions of data, information as well as their flows are interconnected; however, many people
use them as synonyms. Nevertheless, there are significant differences that need to be addressed.
Thus, data is a raw piece of information, so to speak; it reflects a certain aspect of reality. A good
example of data is the table that shows, which smart phones are equipped with NFC and which are
equipped with Bluetooth LE. The importance of it lies in the fact that Apple iPhone 5 is not
equipped with NFC and that is mere a piece of data. Information is data that has been processed
and given a certain meaning. In other words, it engaged the data, but allows a person to make
more sense of it. If one takes a look at the example which was mentioned more, it is an important
piece of information that Apple iPhone 5 does no support NFC: this means that a certain part of
the Starbucks visitors will not be able to able to use the mobile payment option that is based on
this kind of technology. With this in mind, it become obvious that Bluetooth LE is much more
preferable. Speaking of flows, one should note that they represent data and information in
progress. For example, a flow of data should reflect the number of customer served daily in
Starbucks Canada. However, if this data is properly processed, it will result in information flow,
which might take a form of

The Importance And Power Of Resistance In Glory
In the song Glory sung by John Legend and Common is a powerful song inspired by the Civil
Rights Movement. The theme of this song is that resistance enacts change. There are several
literary devices that convey the importance and power of peaceful protest such as allusion,
symbolism, and metaphors. These three literary devices help to illustrate the struggle, dedication,
and triumphs of those involved in peaceful protestof the civil rights movement.
Allusion is one of the main literary devices used to portray the theme that resistance engenders
eventual change. John Legend and Common alluded to other peaceful demonstrations that have
called attention to social issues, that have slowly been resolved due to resistance of unfair
treatment. The first example can be found in the lyric, That s why Rosa sat on the bus (line 17) is

Power And Pathos Of The Hellenistic Era
Power and Pathos uses 50 absolute masterpieces to tell the story of the spectacular artistic
developments of the Hellenistic era (4th to 1st centuries B.C.), when new forms of expression
began to prevail throughout the Mediterranean basin and beyond. There was an extraordinary leap
forward in the development of techniques to form the first instance of globalization of the language
of art in the known world. Art was in effect, going international. This exhibit has gathered together
some of the most spectacular ancient bronzesculptures that still exists today. It displays
monumental life sized figures of Gods, Heroes, Athletes and rulers. Ancient cultures invented
bronze. They discovered that making an alloy of copper and tin produced a strong metal that
could hold great detail and objects cast with it can easily be reproduced. The ancient Greeks prized
bronze for its visual worth and they used it create statueof the human body. Unfortunately, because
bronze is a metal that can be cast and is expensive, it can also be melted down. Hence, large
bronze statues have rarely survived from antiquity, as most were melted down so that their
valuable metal can be reused. The ones that are still preserved today are mostly the same ones that
were either lost at sea or buried underground.
This paper in particular discusses two of the statues exhibited at the Power and Pathos exhibit at
The Getty Center in Los Angeles. It analyses and compares the statuette of Alexander the Great on

Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats
Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The
importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by
William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift
that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to
underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving
Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which
show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of
incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show

New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out
as a form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from
children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death,
among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use
of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked
into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this
reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the
civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil
War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact
that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a
senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem
which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more
peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in
into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many
fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The

Why High School Basketball Players Should Go To College
What would you do? Spend at least one year in college and go to the NBA, or play overseas in
Europe and Asia, play with seasoned veterans, earn a paycheck then go to the NBA? In the year
2006, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) agreed to a rule that
would only allow players that were at least one year removed from high schooland were at least 19
years of age. This rule caused much controversy among fans, players, and league executives. I
believe players should spend at least one year in collegebefore declaring for the NBA draft.
The first reason a high school basketball prospect should go to college instead of going overseas is
because, they would have to adjust to a totally new culture. ESPN s college basketball ... Show

Playing well on a good college team in the tournament could increase your draft stock
tremendously. Rather than being a backup on a bad Euroleague team scoring 5 points per game.
Take Malachi Richardson for example. Malachi Richardson, a wing for the Syracuse Orange, his
team made the tournament, but most thought they would not make it very far. Richardson was
not considered a first rounder in the 2016 draft, but after many wins and Richardson leading
Syracuse to the Final Four his draft stock skyrocketed and was seen by some to be a potential
lottery pick in the draft (lottery is within the first 14 picks). He eventually ended up getting picked
at No.22 overall by the Charlotte Hornets. Bottom line is that, going to college can help because
then NBA scouts don t have to go to a different country.
And the third reason is, if you do not think realistically that you will be drafted, you still have your
scholarship and can stay all 4 years and study for a degree. If you are considered a high draft
prospect, then fail to live up to expectations, you can then stay more years in college. You can stay
more years and improve at basketball for next year s draft. Or you can do both, stay all four years
declare for the NBA draft, and get your college degree. This is the best reason to go to college
instead of going overseas, because college is a privilege. Not

Western Symbolism In John Wayne s The Searchers
Iconography is the standard visual elements used repeatedly in films that have a specific meaning.
Outside of the genre or independently these symbols hold little significance. The Western genre is
an obvious. The surface appearance of the film signals the film s genre. For the Western these
include can horses, pistols, holsters, wide brimmed hats, spurs, saloons, sheriffs, and stagecoaches.
This iconography situates the filmfor the audience. The westernlandscape is likely the most
important and recognizable symbol of the genre. Rather than shooting within a studio set and
soundstage, most of the action is shot on location in New Mexico. Though shooting on location has
its drawbacks, it facilitates capturing the true grittiness of nature... Show more content on

3:10 to Yuma follows this tradition of the quest or captivity narrative, as the plot is structured
around getting Bed Wade on the 3:10 train heading to Yuma prison. As a notorious criminal and
murderer, if he makes it to Yuma he will be sentenced to death, intensifying the consequences.
The film follows the Classical Hollywood convention of using deadlines and appointments to
drive the film s narrative and plot. The goal of Dan Evans is to get him on the train or die trying.
The contracts states that Evans only needs to get Wade onto the train to receive his reward. The
film creates the sense of an epic journey from the Evans ranch to Contention, centred on the
building of the transcontinental railroad. The film s ending is an ambiguous one. Wade surrenders
himself and his weapons when boarding the train to Yuma. As the train takes off around the bend,
Wade whistles, summoning his trusted horse that gallops alongside the train. It is suggested that
Wade will escape as he has escaped from Yuma prison twice before. 3:10 to Yuma follows the
narrative strategy of an ambiguous ending typical of the genre. The hero either departs or is killed
at the end of the film. He does not, however, conform or assimilate to the dominate values of the
community. The hero holds to his individuality strongly to the bitter end. As Wade departs and
Evans dies,

Similarities Between New York City And Annie Hall

past are all recognized as complex ideas portrayed throughout the nonlinear storyline of the 1977
film, Annie Hall.
New York city is Alvy Singer, while Los Angeles is Annie Hall. Woody Allen identifies the main
characters with their geographical locations throughout the film. Native to the city, Alvy is a
pessimistic, neurotic, death obsessed, socially cold, yet highly intellectual, Jewish comedian who
fails to succeed in love. Alvy s character symbolizes the life, culture, intellect and energy of the
city he calls home. New York is the main characters comfort zone, and when he is not there his
nervous idiosyncrasies are evident. The location identifies as the antithesis of what Alvy perceives
Los Angeles to be, a superficial cultureless void. It is apparent to the audience that Alvy thinks
condescendingly of anywhere that is not New York. His character is comparable and regarded as a

Oral History In Ella Cara Deloria s Waterlily
Only so that my people may live! Ella Cara Deloria dedicated much of her life to helping outsiders
understand Native American life. Deloria was born on a Yankton Sioux Reservation on 31 January
1889. Although her father was an Episcopal missionary, Deloria still grew up learning the traditions
of the Siouxand speaking the Dakota language. Upon graduating college, she served as a health
education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying
and informing others on Dakota culture and life. When given the opportunity, Deloria dropped
everything to become a research assistant. This first step enabled her to ultimately become an
ethnologist and write the historical fiction novel Waterlily. Waterlily details the life of two fictional
nineteenth century Sioux characters: Blue Bird and Waterlily. Deloria s experiences enabled her to
contribute to the study of nineteenth century Dakota life through the historical novel Waterlily;
especially, the use of oral history in the creation of the novel, gender roles, and kinshipdynamics.
Much of the experiences portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus
it is important to examine the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily. One of the main
criticisms of oral history is the tendency to assume, that because someone says something it
automatically contains a truth. Deloria specifically addressed this issue when she interviewed her
subjects. First, she

of being an american in his poem Song Of The Open Road written in 1856. Walt Whitman
illustrates his view of being an American through his use of symbolism and imagery. An example
from the Song of the Open Road of symbolism is the road he is describing the path we take
through life. Textual evidence from the poem Song of the Open Road lines 16 and 17 shows the
freedom we have of being an American. Some might argue that Langston Hughes view of being an
American is closer to Generation Zs view than Walt Whitman. In the Poem Dream

The Role Of Minos In Dante s Inferno
Dante s Inferno is a great poem because of the allegorical aspects that Dante puts into this story. A
large aspect of this allegory is the guardians of the different parts of hell. These guardians are used
to describe the punishments administered in the different levels of hell. Minos the guardian of
Circle two guards the lustful. Minos administers the punishments to the sinners making him play
the role of an accuser. The sinner s bodies confess their sins, and they know all about themselves,
but it is too late to repent. Minos is used to stress because the sinners cannot deny the sins they
committed which is torture to them. The lustful are taken away by their passions from their lives
before, and they are tossed about by a wind. Dante considers lust to be the worst, because it s
mutually committed by both people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cerberus is portraying gluttony in mythology, he was known to eat anyone that approached hades,

gluttony. He cannot do his job when something to eat is offered even dirt. The sin is a dark one,

true nature of gluttony as something dark and twisted. Gluttons are alone because they ate alone,

An Analysis Of So Much Water So Close At Home
In Carver s short story, So Much Water So Close to Home, three men go to Naches River for a
fishing trip and encounter a dead young woman in the river. Aware that the corpse is in the river,
they continue on with their fishing trip, not reporting it until they travel back home. Carver
illustrates the story through the eyes of Claire, the wifeof the fisher. Carver depicts the differences
in male and female roles of a marriageand their psychological similarities, associated with why
there was a need to travel to further waters, when there is So Much Water So Close to Home.
Ordinarily, man is the provider and woman is the nurturer in a marriage. This is contrasted by the
differences of Stuart and Claire s roles as husbandand wife. Man s role in a home is to be a
gatherer of not only physical labors but of answers. Claire is constantly seeking answers as to
why her husband waited so long to report the corpse, but he contains no answers for her as he
says you re going to get me riled, (76) making her findings of the truth qualities as the protector
of the household. Their minds as husband and wife functioned separately and in no way
correlated to be a whole as Claire became more consumed by the idea of the dead child. This
consumption is relevant in the way Claire demands her husband to tell her where their son by
asking where is he? Where is Dean? (90) and how she has no trust over him concerning their son
because of the idea of the dead girl. This leads to her

Analysis of the Movie Soundtrack Eternal Sunshine of the...
Sound
Choosing the soundtrack for a movie is another difficult task that a director has to do because they
have to find a perfect song or an instrumental track that will fit or compliment the scene that they
are editing. The soundtrack of a movie is also a guaranteed way of effecting the emotions of the
audience members. As a result, directors spend a great deal of time in choosing the right soundtrack
for the movie. They want to make sure that they target the correct emotions for each scene. The
sequence of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind featured many different sounds; such as, speech,
music and sound effects.
The scene begins with Joel and Clementine laying underneath a blanket. Clementine is telling Joel
a story from her childhood, and as she tells the story, we can hear music in the background, which
is considered non diegetic sound because the audience can hear it but not the characters in the
movie. The music we hear, as audience members, is very calming and smooth and continues to
play as Clementine tells her story. We then see Joel crawling between blankets because he is trying
to catch up with a memory that is currently being erased. As he moves to another memory, we can
hear another type of non diegetic sound; however, this time it is harsh and fast, which indicates that
he is moving fast because he does not want the memory to be erased. We continue hearing this harsh
sound as he remembers the beginning of the memory of him and Clementine

Analysis Of Tim Burton s The Brilliant Joker Essay
It is easy to empathize with Jack Nicholson s brilliant Joker as he laments in Tim Burton s classic
1989 film, Batman, Where does he get those wonderful toys? The average person may not be
villainously inclined, but one can certainly relate to having their best laid plans constantly being
thwarted. Though, to be fair, probably very few people would take issue with someone as awesome
as the Batmangetting in their way. Despite being a mere mortal, Batman and his fellow graphic
novel heroes serve as present day gods akin to the ancient Greek gods of Rome. There are a great
many things that set Batman apart from his colleagues, however; chief among them are his tragic
origin story, the best villains in modern literature, his total lack of superpowers, wealth, and endless
interpretations.
Everyone loves a good origin story. Superman s parents are killed in the explosion of their home
planet, Krypton, and spare him from the same fate by shipping him off to earth on a spacecraft.
Spider Man, who was already living with his aunt and uncle because his parents died while he
was still a child, witnesses his beloved uncle Ben die in front of his eyes at the hands of a thief.
Yet Batman s origin tale easily surpasses both in terms of flair for the dramatic. As a child, young
Bruce Wayne is walking with his parents, Thomas and Martha, through an alley after having left a
screening of the Mark of Zorro. Gunmen seeking to steal Martha s exposed pearls approach the
family. An altercation

Living With Dementia
Introduction Dementia is a generic term used to describe symptoms that indicate significant
loss of intellectual and cognitive functions which includes memory, thinking and communication
such as changes in social behaviour and problem solving and the ability to carry out day today
activities (Alzheimer s society, 2014). The current estimate of people living with a form of
dementia in the United Kingdom is around 850,000 and has predicted to increase to over 1
million by 2025 and over 2 million by 2051 (Alzheimer s society, 2014). Of those affected with
dementia, 90% eventually develop behavioural and psychological symptoms (Hort et al, 2010;
Steinberg et al 2008). Behavioural and psychological symptoms include agitation, aggression,
restlessness, depression and anxiety. These symptoms cause higher morbidity and a poorer
quality of life for patients and carers (Nilamadhab, 2009; Cerejeira, 2012). More than one third of
people living with dementia have behaved aggressively, particularly in the moderate to severe

Plastics Have Hazardous Influence on Human Health
Plastics have hazardous influences on human health. It takes huge amounts of chemicals and
fossil energizes to produce plastics. The type of plastics that we frequently use, contains a
chemical called Bisphenol A known as BPA and other types of chemicals (Ellsbury, 2012). BPA
can interferes with human body and modifies hormones, which has been proven to be dangerous
to human health. In addition, various types of serious health problems have been strongly related
to BPA (Lights, 2012). For instance, certain types of cancer, impaired immune function, early
onset of puberty, obesity, diabetes, and hyperactivity (Adverse Health Effects of Plastics, n.d.).
Research has shown that BPA enters human body through exposure to plastics, such as plastic
bottles. Moreover, risks of these bottles increase even more if they expose to high temperatures,
because the plastic will secrete its harmful chemicals into drinks (Lights, 2012). Plastics harm
animals and consequence the death of them. Thousands of wild animals and sea animals are dying
because of the plastic pollutant. In addition, once the animals swallow the plastic, it will not pass
by the animals gut so it stucks, and that leads to a slow and excruciating death. Moreover, as
plastics need more than lifetime to decompose, after the animal dies and decays, the plastic will be
freed back again to the environment to keep killing other animals (Ark, n.d.). In the marine
environment, plastic bags are the most frequently mistaken

Greek Theatre And Modern Theatre
Without a doubt, the Greek theatre remains one of the most recognized and distinctive works in the
world. While we associate many features of modern theatre with their Greek counterparts, ancient
theatre was a very different animal. You will be surprised at how much Ancient Greece has
influenced us today. Without such topics such as drama, democracy and the Olympics coming from
Ancient Greece, sport would not be important. Drama was a huge part of ancient Greece. Theatre
then became extremely popular performed everywhere including festivals. Greek Tragedyand
Comedy was significantly important as not only did it provide entertainment for the ancient
Greeks, but has continued to influence society today, inspiring us to create similar styles of
theatre into contemporary plays today. Within this essay I hope to show how these ancient
plays have transitioned into our modern theatre, and how directors today have morphed them
into relevant and relatable productions. M Cartwright wrote sources which provides us with
information on both Greek Comedy and Tragedy. In the 6th century BCE, Greek tragedy played
an important and influential role in theatre. The popular form of drama was performed all over
Greece. The most well known playwrights have come from Greek tragedy such as Sophocles,
and Euripides whose plays remained recognised, and continued to be performed for years after
their original premiere. Comedy was also a popular type of theatre in the late 6th century. The
most famous playwrights of the genre were Aristophanes and Menander and their works, and
those of their contemporaries, poked fun at politicians, philosophers, and fellow artists.
(Cartwright 2017). The source informed me the first appearance of Comedy, pottery in the 6th
century, used for decoration, often portrayed actors dressed as horses, satyrs, and dancers in
exaggerated costumes. (Cartwright 2017). Poetry was also another early source of comedy.
Archilochus and Hipponax were Greek poets whose satyr works used crude and sexual humour.
Cartwright explained in his source that these plays were performed at the City of Dionysia and the
Lenaea which were major religious festivals. Over the course of the festivals, comedies were

Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia
In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not.
Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders
Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate
reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes
the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net
imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice
system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning
and its affect on those around it.
Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral
damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the
collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand
Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69).
Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are
innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders
surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not
escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means
the shoal suffers the same

The Origins Of Wine Predate
1 Introduction
The origins of wine predate written records and can be traced back through Antiquity, Medieval
period and Modern Eras where wine played an important part in agriculture and society.
It can be argued that examples of marketing existed during these evolutionary periods as specific
needs (for wine) were identified, created and consumed during royal ceremonies, banquets, for
medicinal purposes and social consumption. Wine held intrinsic value and was produced,
distributed, promoted and consumed by various social classes.
Today, wine continues to play an important role in society from both an economic and social
perspective. Wine was conceived to be a sophisticated product with the level of sophistication
varying based on the value proposition of the brand, market positioning and consumers socio
economic status.
The focus of this marketing plan is the iconic Penfolds Grange which is arguably Australia s most
sophisticated domestic wine brand and how it can be strategically positioned to capture greater
value share in the highly competitive domestic and export luxury wine segments.

Definitely not kids though, i hate little kids. They drive me crazy and dont have the patience to
deal with them. But even in 10 years i still want to remain very close with my friends from High
School. We are together so much it s crazy to think one day we won t see each other everyday.
There is rarely a weekend where we don t either stay overnight or go longboarding for 4 5 hours.
I want to continue riding longboards as long as possible especially with friends because its so fun.
But if the MLB path does not work out i want to continue playing baseball also as it is one of my
passions in life.
In order to be able to play in the MLB I would have to go to a pretty good baseball school. My
dream school would be USC, they have a very good baseball program and if I played well would
definitely have a shot of making it in the MLB. But another good baseball school would be UW
Whitewater, they have won 2 national championships in the last 8 years.
Most professional baseball players make around $4.4 million, while still getting $100 a day for
meals. This would be a very good wage while still having the entire winter off from doing
anything other than workouts. Pete Rose, 4,256 hits later, always hustling no matter what. As
long as he was playing baseball he was happy. That s just what it s like for me, as long as there is

Wilfred Nietzsche s Influence On Religion
Morgan Wakefield
Mr. Hardy
A4; Apologetics
October 7, 2014
Friedrich Nietzsche
Should society trust a man who claimed to be Jesus, Alexander the Great among other deities and
historical figures? Despite suffering from madness when claiming these identities, Friedrich
Wilhelm Nietzsche s works inspire many historical leaders and present day scholars including
Stalin, Hitler, and Mussolini. A 19th century German philosopher, he followed the beliefs of
atheism, moral skepticism, and relativism. Throughout his books he mocked Christianity while
promoting his own beliefs of morality, man reaching its potential, and society s killing of God
(Mastin).
On October 15, 1844, Nietzsche came into the world within the town of Röcken bei Lützen,

...The secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and greatest enjoyment is to
live dangerously (The Gay Science 161). According to Nietzsche, to achieve anything
meaningful, hardships and effort were needed. He claimed that one must accept troubles instead
of doing what he perceived Christianity taught, to refuse and escape troubles (Mastin). ...Every
specific body strives to become master over all space and to extend its force (The Will to Power
340). Nietzsche believed in the will to power, or one s pursuit to expand his or her power. He saw it
as the basis drive in human behavior and as a positive device. Within his philosophy, Nietzsche
believed one could become an Гњbermensch, or a superhuman. For one to become this
superhuman, one must adhere to Nietzsche s own values. An Гњbermensch would be beyond
pleasure and suffering, have total freedom, and have no need for God. This creation of Nietzsche
reflected what he personally wished for (Mastin). Along with his other unusual views on the world,
Nietzsche also wrote about his view on

Volunteering In American High Schools
Many teens right now in America spend their free time watching T.V, going to parties, or just
being with their friends. What if those teens changed their activities to something that could
actually help society? By making volunteering mandatory for all students in American high
schools, we can actually do that. Volunteering makes you a better person, exposes you to
different things in life, and helps your society, so why not make all those things necessary to
graduate? Your tedious sunday afternoons could be spent helping injured animals, taking care of
jovial children, or even fundraising for the poor. Those were only some of the things you can do
if you just try spending your free time volunteering. Unless we make volunteering mandatory
some teens will never even have the chance to try to do some of those things. As an example,
Gandhi once said, The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. First
and foremost, volunteering can make you a better person, and it really helps you to become a better
problem solver. According to Online College It said, Students participating in community service
are often faced with challenges and tough problems to tackle. By working through them as a... Show

to the Prospect, Volunteering allows students to get involved with new things and develop
technical, social, and academic skills that couldn t be learned in a classroom environment. You get

Persuasive Essay On Self Driven Cars
Over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year, an additional 23.5 million are injured or
disabled, nearly 8,000 people are killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16 20 ( Road Crash
Statistics ). According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, crashes cost the
U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person ( Road Crash Statistics ). So, now
imagine a world in where you feel safe to drive any time of the day. Imagine getting into a car
and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or
distracted drivers who are on their phones. Our technology has advanced significantly and it
only continues advancing. Waymo, a small project that was launched by Google started
exploring the idea of a self driven car. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because
they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be
environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried
about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and
foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to
make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety.
Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have
improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians,
buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a
possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to
make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can
detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more
attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. Karis Hustad
also mentions, In a video, the Google driverless car can sense a biker who veers in and out of its
lane, navigate around road construction, and pause for errant pedestrians. The new technology can
also read stop signs and waits for all cars to cross

Analysis Of Fifty Shades Of Grey
Blissed Pleasure
Gwendoline Christie once said, Genuine and true love is so rare that when you encounter it in any
form, it s a wonderful thing, to be utterly cherished in whatever form it takes. In the novel Fifty
Shades of Grey, by E.L. James, Ana and Christian are two strangers, with different viewpoints on
love. Their relationship shows that true love comes in different ways. Ana s innocence and
Christian s impeccable voluptuous suit forces a bond, and intercedes them both to a vanilla terrene.

Frederick Douglass, An American Slave
Frederick Douglass is well known for many of his literary achievements. He is best known, now,
as a writer. As a writer, Frederick Douglass shined. As a speaker, he was the best. There was no
abolitionist, black or white, that was more for his speaking skills. (McFeely, 206) So impressive
were Frederick Douglass s oratorical and intellectual abilities that opponents refused to believe
that he had been a slave and alleged that he was a impostor brought up on the public by the
abolitionists. In reply, Douglass wrote Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An
American Slave (1845), which he revised in later years: in final form, it appeared in 1882 under the
title Life and Times Of Frederick Douglass. (Graves, 52 ) Frederick s oratory skills left the largest
impact on Civil War time period literature. Douglass s most significant autobiographical works
include: Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave: My Bondage And My
Freedom: and Life And Times Of Frederick Douglass. These three books are about the same
person, and share a similar message, but are written by Frederick at different times of his life,
looking at the past in different ways. In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, Douglass
used a simple, yet educated way to show how he felt as a slave growing up in Maryland. He
describes in the Narrative I have often been so pinched with hunger as to dispute with old Nep, the
dog, for

The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century
The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what
is expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church
like St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the
church and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of
Rotterdam who was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before
Luther told his Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Lutherthe aspect of the beginning of the section is
very intriguing, offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced
this new conviction, it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of
indulgences in 1517 provoked him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known
as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther 427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved
the sins of Luther and the Catholic church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic
church due to the change of how people bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic
church offered an indulgencefor pay, such as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and
a preacher yes, and as learned and experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty (
Martin Luther 428). By following the sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with
Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would
be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther 429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and
questioning what one should do with pastors and preachers and how one can better that problem to
come up with a solution. The following quote sticks out due to the fact that the quote is setting
guidelines to how many should go about living their life, Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must
be on our guard that by talking much and with much insistence of faith, without any distinction and
explanation occasion be not given to the people to be lazy and slothful in works, whether before
faith is formed in charity or after ( Saint Ignatius of Loyola 446). One can about their life just

The Importance Of Drunk Driving In The United States
In 2013, 10,076 people died in drunk driving crashes one every 52 minutes and 290,000 were
injured in drunk driving crashes (State Farm). Many people may not think that just a couple
drinks would affect their driving capabilities, but in fact it does. Driving while intoxicated has
been a dangerous issue in the U.S but there are strategies which have helped minimize the
number of drivers driving while drunk. In all 50 states, the legal limit for drunk driving is a
blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .08. A 120 pound female can reach this level of
intoxication after only two drinks, and a 180 pound male can be at .08 after only four drinks
(DUI). Sobriety check points is a solution in progress in some states to prevent

Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs
Introduction Since the 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called
White Horse, in Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay
bar to be opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a
felony, and being caught in a gaybar could cost someone their job. In a society that viewed gays
as barley human, the White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was
liberating (Duffy 2016). With time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay
nightclubs started opening all across America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is
known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October 5th, 2017, an experimental observation at the
Tracks nightclub was made. During this experience, it was observed that these people that
identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual
nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender movement acts have been
created to allow this community to be more opened and unafraid, it has had a history of having
psychological components such as depression, and social components such as relationships with
one another, and of course the history within hate crimes towards the LGBTcommunity.
Psychological component Gay nightclubs are a healthy heaven for the psychological well being of
the Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, trans community. (Also known as the LGBT community) Because

  • 2. Their Eyes Were Watching God Figurative Language The tides of love roll in and out, suiting each shore they meet, painting a picture of beautiful sparkling, although sometimes turbulent waters. For Janie, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, she grasps her life by the ropes and lets it take her on the adventure of a lifetime, never regretting the love she felt and the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries thrice, each time drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining bits and pieces of self actualization. The diction, imagery, and figurative language in Zora Neal Hurston s (ADJ) novel produces a profound effect: allowing the reader to delve into the lives of her characters and walk with them through their trials and their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Janie reaches far to gain this horizon she seeks, enduring bad marriages and suppression via her Nanny and first two husbands all to reach her end goal. Janie finds true love in Teacake, her final husband and realizes love means knowing when to let go of your beloved. When Janie sees it necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing her husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great fish net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived her life to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons stretching just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull in her horizons, just as every person in society strives to do. FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . This florid metaphor allows the reader to visualize the hopes and dreams of men and gives the reader an idea of the overall struggle in society. Metaphorically, the ships at a distance represent the struggle that many men and women will endure to reach their dreams. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis Of The Wonder Woman In The Superman The difficult thing when adapting a comic is looking closely at the source material. Wonder Woman was sort of a campy character who would look pretty ridiculous running around on the street. Yeah, Lynda Carter rocked it back in the day, but she still looks ridiculous. Somehow, Patty Jenkins and crew managed to not only make a great superheromovie with a female lead, but also a great war movie. A great World War 1 movie! The last time we had a WW1 movie that took this much care was War Horse, and that movie wasn t very good. Premise: Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. This is the first time I walked out of a movie in the DC Extended Universe where I finally felt they did something right, and after watching Gal Gadot debut in Batman v Superman, it also retroactively makes that movie look better when you learn of her motivations in that film. I d explain it, but that would really kill the realization when you see the film. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad were all disappointing, but this film may be the film to put DC back on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Organizational Culture The Business Dictionary defines organizational culture as values and behaviors based on shared attitudes, beliefs, customs, and written and unwritten rules that have been developed over time ( Organizational Culture , 2017). Simply put, organizational culture is how people learn, think and act on a daily basis within an organization. But if organizational cultureis only unique social and psychological environments within a business, then how is it possible that it can be just as influential as business strategy? Research suggests that a strong organizational culture is a key competitive advantage of business because it can be the driving force behind innovationand alignment of goals, help motivate and engage employees, and generate fierce customer loyalty. Organizational culture, also referred to as corporate culture, is a key competitive advantage of business because it can be the driving force behind innovation and alignment of goals. Innovation is the foundation upon which most businesses are built. It allows businesses to offer a new or improved product or provide a service in a way that sets them apart from competitors. Because consumer tastes are always changing, businesses have to align innovation with their business strategy to stay competitive. Any company can simply proclaim that their strategy will focus on innovation but if its employees are discouraged from being creative, if output quantity drives their paycheck, or if the company s hierarchical ... When dealing with students that have special need challenges some tips to shift the balance of influence that affect their behavior or mood can include length of time on the bus or van, distractions, and/or disturbances. The length of the trip on the bus can be a stress trigger for a student with special needs, such as a student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism. Some students may not be able to verbally express that the length of the trip home or to school to, is stressful for them. Another tip which can shift the balance of influence during the commute would be to identify what distracts or disturbs each student, especially students who cannot speak. They may give you clues by responding the way a baby would by making sounds, and/or body movements such as clapping, reaching out, hitting, or biting. Anti Inflationary Policy Essay Introduction Anti inflationary policies are the policies taken by the government to announce inflation target lowering it to zero, in the beginning of the year, which at that time is considered optimal. The government wants to keep the inflation level low in an economy. It is the continuous rise in the general price level of goods and services over a period of time in an economy. As we know inflation can cause serious social consequences, if it s not perfectly anticipated, money as a measure of value or as a medium of exchange is undermined. Most cultures and religions have specific events, ceremonies, or celebrations associated with coming of age. For a boy in ancient Sparta, coming of age includes many spiritual, physical, intellectual, and emotional elements to overcome. Coming of age in Sparta started moments after birth. If the child passed, they were then taken to a group of elders. If the Elders found the child deficient in any way they would be left on the sides of Mount Taygetos to die. • 15. Farmer Saw The Wolf English syntax makes it a more analytic as opposed to Japanese where word order is not so important as the affixes of words so reordering of a sentence can still have the same meaning even if they sound funny unlike in English where word order is the de facto method of easy communication (Freeman Freeman, 2014, p. 194). In Finnegan (2015), the sentence: The farmer saw the wolf is used to show how word order can explain why syntax is so important in English; English is an SVO language or a language that predetermines where words go in a sentence for the purpose of clear meaning, SVO stands for Subject Verb Object, whereas many languages can be SVO or even VOS or VSO, with the knowledge that S, V, and O always stand for Subject, Verb, and Object (Language: its structure and use, p. 57). Latin in the sentence mentioned in the prior sentence would be able to switch the SVO around to almost any order; Spanish is in the language family of Latin and so The farmer saw the wolf can be said as El granjero vio al lobo , SVO, or Al lobo el granjero vio , OSV, or Vio al lobo, el granjero , VOS (Finegan, 2015, p. 57). Furthermore, it is apparent that English syntax, or the study of sentence structures is synonymous with much of the study of English grammar; Syntax in a reductive explanation is the study of sentence structure (Finegan, 2015, p. 178). • 16. Frederick Douglass Chapter 3 Analysis In the first chapter of the book Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick douglass gives us first hand stories about him being a young slave. Frederick was not allowed to go to his mother s burial and he did not know his own birthday as well both of which I find very crazy because everyone knows their birthday but for slaves that was a common occurrence, and to not be able to see your own mother s burial sounds awful. Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his aunt at a young age and he wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be scaring. The whipping was a punishmentfor Douglass s aunt because she went to see another slave from a different plantation, in my opinion this is a incredibly harsh punishment for trying to visit another slave. Douglass Says It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it (Douglass 4). Douglass says this when he is talking about his aunt getting whipped, he is saying that it was so bad to watch he could not even put his feeling into words. All of these events emphasize how bad it really was to be a slave and stripped of rights and to be treated like property. Unfair slave masters In chapter 3 douglass puts high emphasis on Colonel Lloyd and how he treated the slaves. However, they may not have anticipated that a start up record label out of Detroit would play an important role in the movement towards Civil Rights. This record label would change the face of music in the 60s to allow for young African American artists to enter the scene with a fighting chance. Soon Motown groups like The Supremes were getting classy booking to play for white audiences in venues like Copacabana (The Story). Gordy s insistence upon the upkeep of an artist s style, manners, and diction was based on the style of White Americans. He knew that to sell music his artists had to appeal to a white audience. Motown records went to great lengths to get favorable press from white publications. The label was extremely active in promoting its artists and music through media by establishing a tight knit relationship with Detroit, which loved Motown and fed into its success greatly. The direct connection of Motown to a community allowed for fans to feel as though they were part of the Motown team. Thanks to it s popularity, African American songs and faces entered the homes of every American in the country, regardless of race, (The Sixties). Motown achieved crossover success by adding the expectations and style of white Americans to African American artists and the black sound that America had been rejecting. The sound with the new, cleaned up look of the artists at Motown Records appealed to black and white audiences everywhere. The crossover of Motown opened many doors for African Americans during this time period by initiating the acceptance of black role models in American society. According to Margetson 1980, During the Romantic period in England manners were considered to be more than just a greeting to one another. Having manners meant you were socially at a higher rank. According to In Romantic period, their character and self presentation was main key to define their rank and manners. Jane Austen engages with this idea and talk about the importance of manners describing the way an individual character behaves according to their class and rank. She meant that higher classes (who are from a good family and proper education) will automatically have good manners. And the manners they have are bound up with the property and their class rank. In Pride and prejudice manners were considered as an aspect to be learned by a society (especially the lower class) from the higher class people s expectations. However, since manners can be learned and they can also be lacked, so it is never automatically true that a person from an upper class has good manners. Data, information and flows The notions of data, information as well as their flows are interconnected; however, many people use them as synonyms. Nevertheless, there are significant differences that need to be addressed. Thus, data is a raw piece of information, so to speak; it reflects a certain aspect of reality. A good example of data is the table that shows, which smart phones are equipped with NFC and which are equipped with Bluetooth LE. The importance of it lies in the fact that Apple iPhone 5 is not equipped with NFC and that is mere a piece of data. Information is data that has been processed and given a certain meaning. In other words, it engaged the data, but allows a person to make more sense of it. If one takes a look at the example which was mentioned more, it is an important piece of information that Apple iPhone 5 does no support NFC: this means that a certain part of the Starbucks visitors will not be able to able to use the mobile payment option that is based on this kind of technology. With this in mind, it become obvious that Bluetooth LE is much more preferable. Speaking of flows, one should note that they represent data and information in progress. For example, a flow of data should reflect the number of customer served daily in Starbucks Canada. However, if this data is properly processed, it will result in information flow, which might take a form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Importance And Power Of Resistance In Glory In the song Glory sung by John Legend and Common is a powerful song inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. The theme of this song is that resistance enacts change. There are several literary devices that convey the importance and power of peaceful protest such as allusion, symbolism, and metaphors. These three literary devices help to illustrate the struggle, dedication, and triumphs of those involved in peaceful protestof the civil rights movement. Allusion is one of the main literary devices used to portray the theme that resistance engenders eventual change. John Legend and Common alluded to other peaceful demonstrations that have called attention to social issues, that have slowly been resolved due to resistance of unfair treatment. The first example can be found in the lyric, That s why Rosa sat on the bus (line 17) is referring to the resistance of blacks. Rosa Parks is one of the most renowned civil rights activist, she refused to render her bus seat to a white male in 1955. During her resistance, she remained peaceful. She did not fight the white male, nor did she fight the white law enforcement officers when they forcibly removed her from the bus. Therefore, due to Rosa Park s peaceful resistance, in 1956 buses were desegregated. By not following unjust laws of society, Rosa s resistance was able to enact change. The second allusion references a more recent protest; the protest in Ferguson, Missouri in which a black, unarmed teenager was killed by a white law ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ancient cultures invented bronze. They discovered that making an alloy of copper and tin produced a strong metal that could hold great detail and objects cast with it can easily be reproduced. The ancient Greeks prized bronze for its visual worth and they used it create statueof the human body. Unfortunately, because bronze is a metal that can be cast and is expensive, it can also be melted down. Hence, large bronze statues have rarely survived from antiquity, as most were melted down so that their valuable metal can be reused. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spend at least one year in college and go to the NBA, or play overseas in Europe and Asia, play with seasoned veterans, earn a paycheck then go to the NBA? In the year 2006, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) agreed to a rule that would only allow players that were at least one year removed from high schooland were at least 19 years of age. This rule caused much controversy among fans, players, and league executives. I believe players should spend at least one year in collegebefore declaring for the NBA draft. Richardson was not considered a first rounder in the 2016 draft, but after many wins and Richardson leading Syracuse to the Final Four his draft stock skyrocketed and was seen by some to be a potential lottery pick in the draft (lottery is within the first 14 picks). He eventually ended up getting picked at No.22 overall by the Charlotte Hornets. Bottom line is that, going to college can help because then NBA scouts don t have to go to a different country. And the third reason is, if you do not think realistically that you will be drafted, you still have your scholarship and can stay all 4 years and study for a degree. If you are considered a high draft prospect, then fail to live up to expectations, you can then stay more years in college. You can stay more years and improve at basketball for next year s draft. Deloria was born on a Yankton Sioux Reservation on 31 January 1889. Although her father was an Episcopal missionary, Deloria still grew up learning the traditions of the Siouxand speaking the Dakota language. Upon graduating college, she served as a health education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying and informing others on Dakota culture and life. When given the opportunity, Deloria dropped everything to become a research assistant. This first step enabled her to ultimately become an ethnologist and write the historical fiction novel Waterlily. Waterlily details the life of two fictional nineteenth century Sioux characters: Blue Bird and Waterlily. Deloria s experiences enabled her to contribute to the study of nineteenth century Dakota life through the historical novel Waterlily; especially, the use of oral history in the creation of the novel, gender roles, and kinshipdynamics. Much of the experiences portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus it is important to examine the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily. One of the main criticisms of oral history is the tendency to assume, that because someone says something it automatically contains a truth. A large aspect of this allegory is the guardians of the different parts of hell. These guardians are used to describe the punishments administered in the different levels of hell. Minos the guardian of Circle two guards the lustful. Minos administers the punishments to the sinners making him play the role of an accuser. The sinner s bodies confess their sins, and they know all about themselves, but it is too late to repent. Minos is used to stress because the sinners cannot deny the sins they committed which is torture to them. The average person may not be villainously inclined, but one can certainly relate to having their best laid plans constantly being thwarted. Though, to be fair, probably very few people would take issue with someone as awesome as the Batmangetting in their way. Despite being a mere mortal, Batman and his fellow graphic novel heroes serve as present day gods akin to the ancient Greek gods of Rome. There are a great many things that set Batman apart from his colleagues, however; chief among them are his tragic origin story, the best villains in modern literature, his total lack of superpowers, wealth, and endless interpretations. Everyone loves a good origin story. Superman s parents are killed in the explosion of their home planet, Krypton, and spare him from the same fate by shipping him off to earth on a spacecraft. While we associate many features of modern theatre with their Greek counterparts, ancient theatre was a very different animal. You will be surprised at how much Ancient Greece has influenced us today. Without such topics such as drama, democracy and the Olympics coming from Ancient Greece, sport would not be important. Drama was a huge part of ancient Greece. Theatre then became extremely popular performed everywhere including festivals. Greek Tragedyand Comedy was significantly important as not only did it provide entertainment for the ancient Greeks, but has continued to influence society today, inspiring us to create similar styles of theatre into contemporary plays today. Within this essay I hope to show how these ancient plays have transitioned into our modern theatre, and how directors today have morphed them into relevant and relatable productions. M Cartwright wrote sources which provides us with information on both Greek Comedy and Tragedy. In the 6th century BCE, Greek tragedy played an important and influential role in theatre. The popular form of drama was performed all over Greece. The most well known playwrights have come from Greek tragedy such as Sophocles, and Euripides whose plays remained recognised, and continued to be performed for years after their original premiere. Comedy was also a popular type of theatre in the late 6th century. The most famous playwrights of the genre were Aristophanes and Menander and their works, and those of their contemporaries, poked fun at politicians, philosophers, and fellow artists. (Cartwright 2017). The source informed me the first appearance of Comedy, pottery in the 6th century, used for decoration, often portrayed actors dressed as horses, satyrs, and dancers in exaggerated costumes. (Cartwright 2017). Poetry was also another early source of comedy. Archilochus and Hipponax were Greek poets whose satyr works used crude and sexual humour. Cartwright explained in his source that these plays were performed at the City of Dionysia and the Lenaea which were major religious festivals. Over the course of the festivals, comedies were ... • 39. Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it. Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. Just like Mrs. Mallard not thinking for herself and dreading the next day being the same, Mrs. Sommers has transformed into a typical mother. Everyday is the same to her all she does is take care of her kids. Chopin continues to display how following the expectations of society can be detrimental. After Mrs. Sommers figured out what she wanted to spend on her children, she went shopping. She went into a store and sat down for a minute feeling a bit tired and her hand unintentionally touched something wonderful. She looked down to see that her hand lay upon a pile of silk stockings. • 41. The Origins Of Wine Predate 1 Introduction The origins of wine predate written records and can be traced back through Antiquity, Medieval period and Modern Eras where wine played an important part in agriculture and society. It can be argued that examples of marketing existed during these evolutionary periods as specific needs (for wine) were identified, created and consumed during royal ceremonies, banquets, for medicinal purposes and social consumption. Wine held intrinsic value and was produced, distributed, promoted and consumed by various social classes. Today, wine continues to play an important role in society from both an economic and social perspective. Wine was conceived to be a sophisticated product with the level of sophistication varying based on the value proposition of the brand, market positioning and consumers socio economic status. The focus of this marketing plan is the iconic Penfolds Grange which is arguably Australia s most sophisticated domestic wine brand and how it can be strategically positioned to capture greater value share in the highly competitive domestic and export luxury wine segments. 2. Situation Analysis It is important to consider market interpretation as a vital component when creating marketing strategy. Lawrence has news for the status quo in his short story, The Rocking Horse Winner. Hester is the unloving mother of three children that she describes as being thrust upon her, and she could not lovethem (793). The reason she cannot love her children is because of the nagging feeling of not having the cash flow to live the lavish life she desires. Hester is a beautiful woman who was born into a wealthy familyso she felt good when she married for love and not money. That is until the reality of the marriageset in and, love turned to dust (793). Hester shows that greed and materialism have a palpable presence that can adhere to a person like a curse. It not only haunts over the ill minded, but the ones who love and care for them must shoulder the burden as well. Tragically it is only once Hester begins losing her son to his betting obsession that her heart softens, allowing the motherly duties to set in. It is hard to judge Hester s husband because he is scarcely discussed but it is evident that their marriage is a primary source of the stories conflicts. They got married initially for the right reason [love] but unfortunately that is not enough to make up for the hardships of a unlucky man (792). • 45. Volunteering In American High Schools Many teens right now in America spend their free time watching T.V, going to parties, or just being with their friends. What if those teens changed their activities to something that could actually help society? By making volunteering mandatory for all students in American high schools, we can actually do that. Volunteering makes you a better person, exposes you to different things in life, and helps your society, so why not make all those things necessary to graduate? Your tedious sunday afternoons could be spent helping injured animals, taking care of jovial children, or even fundraising for the poor. Those were only some of the things you can do if you just try spending your free time volunteering. Unless we make volunteering mandatory some teens will never even have the chance to try to do some of those things. As an example, Gandhi once said, The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Persuasive Essay On Self Driven Cars Over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year, an additional 23.5 million are injured or disabled, nearly 8,000 people are killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16 20 ( Road Crash Statistics ). According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, crashes cost the U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person ( Road Crash Statistics ). So, now imagine a world in where you feel safe to drive any time of the day. Imagine getting into a car and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or distracted drivers who are on their phones. Our technology has advanced significantly and it only continues advancing. Waymo, a small project that was launched by Google started exploring the idea of a self driven car. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety. Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians, buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. Karis Hustad also mentions, In a video, the Google driverless car can sense a biker who veers in and out of its lane, navigate around road construction, and pause for errant pedestrians. As a speaker, he was the best. There was no abolitionist, black or white, that was more for his speaking skills. (McFeely, 206) So impressive were Frederick Douglass s oratorical and intellectual abilities that opponents refused to believe that he had been a slave and alleged that he was a impostor brought up on the public by the abolitionists. In reply, Douglass wrote Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave (1845), which he revised in later years: in final form, it appeared in 1882 under the title Life and Times Of Frederick Douglass. (Graves, 52 ) Frederick s oratory skills left the largest impact on Civil War time period literature. Douglass s most significant autobiographical works include: Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave: My Bondage And My Freedom: and Life And Times Of Frederick Douglass. These three books are about the same person, and share a similar message, but are written by Frederick at different times of his life, looking at the past in different ways. • 51. The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what is expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church like St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the church and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of Rotterdam who was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before Luther told his Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Lutherthe aspect of the beginning of the section is very intriguing, offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced this new conviction, it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of indulgences in 1517 provoked him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther 427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved the sins of Luther and the Catholic church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic church due to the change of how people bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic church offered an indulgencefor pay, such as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and a preacher yes, and as learned and experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty ( Martin Luther 428). By following the sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther 429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and questioning what one should do with pastors and preachers and how one can better that problem to come up with a solution. The following quote sticks out due to the fact that the quote is setting guidelines to how many should go about living their life, Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must be on our guard that by talking much and with much insistence of faith, without any distinction and explanation occasion be not given to the people to be lazy and slothful in works, whether before faith is formed in charity or after ( Saint Ignatius of Loyola 446). • 53. Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs Introduction Since the 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called White Horse, in Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay bar to be opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and being caught in a gaybar could cost someone their job. In a society that viewed gays as barley human, the White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating (Duffy 2016). With time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs started opening all across America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October 5th, 2017, an experimental observation at the Tracks nightclub was made. During this experience, it was observed that these people that identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender movement acts have been created to allow this community to be more opened and unafraid, it has had a history of having psychological components such as depression, and social components such as relationships with one another, and of course the history within hate crimes towards the LGBTcommunity.
