Psychoanalytic Analysis of Looking for Alaska Essay

PSYCHOANALYTIC ANALYSIS OF LOOKING FOR ALASKA
It seems natural to think about novels in terms of dreams or psychoanalytical realities. Like dreams,
novels are fictions, inventions of the mind that, though based on reality, are by definition not exactly
and literally true. Conversely, dreams may have some truth to tell but like novels their truth must be
interpreted before it can be grasped. Such is the case with John Green s young adult novel, Looking
for Alaska. It holds many truths that are relevant to young adults, but to extract those lessons, one
must first view the plot and characters through a lens of psychoanalytical theory. ... Show more

He is a schemer and a prankster drawing on his strength from having friends around him. He is only a
colonel in that he has the ability to strategize and rank his troops for the purpose of prank deployment.
And finally, the beautifully damaged, larger than life Alaska Young. As her name implies, she is so
young to have the problems that she has and meet such an untimely demise. She is also aptly named
Alaska because she is (or wishes to be) an unknown, mysterious, possibly dangerous frontier to her
schoolmates. We learn well into the novel, that Alaska experienced a horrible tragedy when she was
little: her mother had an aneurysm and died in front of her. Alaska, in shock, was unable to take any
action to save her mother and has since tried to control situations with her own volatility and
unpredictability. She manipulates those around her by alternating between being a misunderstood
victim and an instigator of mischief.
As an adult reader who has crossed over to the reality of life, reading about these characters can be a
transparent, futile exercise because as adults looking back at youth we have the experience to know
where these characters are headed before they even start their journey. However, for young adults who
are still in the throes of existential angst this is a powerful novel that handles teenage rites of passage
and coming of age issues such as loyalty, friendship, belonging, and even death and loss very well.

Analysis Of Suffer The Little Children
During the documentaries: Suffer the Little Children, and Educating Peter, many things were brought
to attention about the treatment of Special needs individuals in the past and the more recent treatment
in the school systems of the near present. Starting with Suffer the Little Children, it is amazing that
such conditions were present in the United States as the mid to late 1900s, the treatment depicted
would be thought by most people, to be that of the middle ages. Individuals were bound, beaten and
subject to torture at the hands of a medical professional; forced to lie restrained in their own
excrement, things thought to be fiction that would fill horror stories. However, on opposite end of the
spectrum, we have the story of Peter, a child in the special needs class of his school. Peter was at first
not accepted, but as time moved on, educators learned to handle his behavioral issues in a better way,
and together they were able to have a happy ending; now peter enjoys school and is much better off.
These documentaries bring forth things that may not have been known by the public, and create an
awareness that some individuals have special needs and they have every right to the help they deserve.
Throughout the documentary Suffer the Little Children, there were constant examples of outright
cruelty toward the individuals of residing within the Pennhurst, and with its overcrowding there is no
telling how many individuals went without out their required needs. The main

Self Regulation And Effective Learning Essay
Much research has shown the necessity for students to learn the behaviors that make up self regulation
to learn successfully and be most effective in their personal and professional lives. Self regulation
refers to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on their own
standards, and provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly. In the
experience of these authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors necessary
for self regulation and effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation and how it
affects the learning process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve self regulation;
however, these authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first moment of contact with
students. A classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, clearly understand
expectations and receive timely responses allows students to gain confidence and trust the instructor.
This type of environment sets the tone for the instructor then to share, model and shape strategies in
students leading to self regulation.
Introduction Social learning theory introduced the crucial concept of self regulation, which refers to
the ability to monitor one s own behavior, judge the behavior based on one s own standards, and
institute consequences of reinforcement or punishment. The ability to self regulate is made of many
strategies that once learned, can be

Non Conformity Sucks
Conformity AND Nonconformity Sucks!
To conform or to not conform is the real question. Google defines conformity as Compliance with
standards, rules, or laws. I define conformity as someone going along with society although they may
or may not believe it s the right thing to do. The people who refuse to conform to society are called
nonconformist. Although both conformity and nonconformity has its benefits, it can also be
unfavorable for you. In other words, IT SUCKS!! And this demonstrated through both fictional stories
and in real life. Two very good examples are Snowball the pig (conformist) from the book Animal
Farm By George Orwell and Summer Pimp (nonconformist) who used to be one of my good friends.

Why Do Catalans Have Their American Culture
Another aspect that needs to be known in order to understand the reasons why Catalans pursue
independence from Spain are their cultural characteristics. Catalan people have many distinct cultural
traits that difference them from the Spanish culture. The main aspects are exposed below to help
realize how Catalans have their own culture.
Language
Language is probably one of the most important characteristics traits for the Catalan people.
Throughout the history, they have had to fight periods when the Catalan language was strictly
prohibited. As mentioned earlier in this report, people were not allowed to speak it, they were not
allowed to teach it in the schools, and they were not even allowed to give their children Catalan
names. Even though it was prohibited, many Catalans that were in the exile continued to write books
in Catalan, risking their life, to ensure that the language was not forgotten. This just makes it one of
the reason why Catalan people are very proud of their language, and think it is one of their most
characteristic cultural traits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a form of Vulgar Latin spoken by the people living in the Pyrenees Mountains. Throughout the
year, Catalan spread southward along the Mediterranean coast. Catalan became a recognized official
linguistic identity by the 11th century, when many legal, religious, and philosophical documents were
in Catalan (Ottenbreit, n.d.).
As mentioned earlier, during Franco s dictatorship, Catalan was banned with very strict penalties if
used for both public and private use. However, once democracy was established again in the country,
Catalan went back to be the co official language along with Spanish. Nowadays, there is
approximately 9.5 million Catalan speakers, and about 4.2 million are native speakers, which makes
Catalan be the second most commonly spoken native language in Spain, after Spanish.

SFA Safety Websites
In the deep piney woods of east Texas, there stands a school that has been around since the early
nineteenth century, Stephen F. Austin State University. For all students, safety should be one of their
most important priorities when picking a university or college. Stephen F. Austin State University, or
SFASU, luckily has a well organized and well informed website that offers all of its students important
tips and procedures on what to do in case of an emergency. Though only a few handful of students
know about the website because is not well publicized. This results in a large amount of students not
knowing that there is a website that provides them with vital information on everything they need do
to remain safe in the case of an emergency. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are people who seek destruction and to harm students as much as possible. Therefore, schools
take these precautions to assure that students know what to do when in a time of crisis. Information
like this should be much more easily accessible. Overall the SFASU campus safety policies and
website are viable for the student on campus and off campus; however, it could be more publicized,
that way all students know what to do and what not to do in the case of an emergency. Colleges and
universities could easily do this by implementing mandatory safety and training courses to ensure the
safety of their students while they are attending their school. This is extremely important so that way
students feel safe and can casually recommend SFASU as a safe and educated school for to anyone
who ask, showing that there is safety for all

In his work, Spiegelman is using animals mask to show the difference between the nationalities. Mice
for Hebrew, cats for Germans and pigs for Polish. I think that the author is using animals heads for his
characters because in this way the Germans can make much easier the difference between Hebrew and
Polish. If characters would only wear clothes with Nazi symbols or Star of David I think it would be
much harder to differentiate people. According to Spiegelman, Vladek didn t know how the swastika

Reflection Paper On Powerlifting Moment
Powerlifting Progression
After enduring months of intense conditioning, the time came for us to see if our work paid off. It was
testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the
beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static
stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my
weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided
not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting
365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals
to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench.
With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the
school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting.
As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This
awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of
my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate.
As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. Knowing
that advancement in the weight room is enhanced through awareness, I greatly utilize this
understanding of growth when considering my intellectual progression.
If I want to become stronger in a particular lift, I start by highlighting details in individual segments of
that lift that can be improved. I make similar observations in regards to my intellectual state; for
example, stability exists as the foundation of my outlook on the world. From the atmosphere of my
upbringing as a homeschool student, to my pastimes as a powerlifter and critical thinker, stability
gives meaning to many properties that comprise my character. Being the third of eight children, most
of the things I do have already been done before at least once in my family. I am often tasked with an
expectation to succeed solely because of this precedent,

Differing Opinions on the Controversial Death Penalty...
The issue of capital punishment is one that has been in discussion for many years. How can anyone
control the life of another human being? The accused may have taken the life of another citizen but
what gives anyone the right to take his. This is the main point of the question but it gets vastly more
complicated as the issue is further investigated. For instance, the psychopath who goes on a murderous
rampage might have an abnormality with the frontal lobe of the cortex in his brain. Now, if this is the
case this person may not be able to control his murderous impulses. So, should this person be
punished, and not only should he or she be punished but should the punishment be done for
retribution? After all, most punishment is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground.
The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in
prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death
sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The
next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand
what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to
what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273)
Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these
two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral
standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a
relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274)
Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to
others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social
contract and so this should not be respected upon them. The last part of this discussion will be

The Sixth Sense Book Report
We have five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. However, German philosopher, Friedrich
Nietzsche, coined the term The Sixth Sense meaning the Industrial Revolution. Joseph Cooper Ramo
took this a step further with what he calls The Seventh Sense , speaking of the age of constant
connection. A transformation is occurring, just like what happened when factories and more changed
the way life was lived in the 18th century. We are constantly connected to each other, news, and
information. It has diminished barriers for businesses, networking, politics, etc. It has also allowed
terrorists better access to resources and chaos to spread more rapidly than ever before. This book
explores how these connections fit into human history, how they operate, and how the future looks
with this new power.
With the Scientific Revolution, we could get places faster and more easily, lengthen lives, and more.

The Albatross
The particular meaning of death is evidently endless, and with the limitless range of possibilities that
follow along with it comes with no amazement that the death scenes in literature sometimes create the
most significant themes in their relevant stories. One similar case to this would be the death of the
Albatross, in the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In the poem,
the Mariner carelessly shots the Albatross, guiding him and his men, without giving any good reasons
why he did so. This can be related to religion because the Albatross represents Christ because he was
our one and only option at achieving eternal life in Heaven, even after man continued to torture him.
The Albatross was the crew s one and only chance at salvation from the icy region, but the Mariner
destroys all their chances after killing the bird. His impression then would reveal his carelessness for
nature, a moment that would illuminate the logical purpose of the poem clearer now than it did before.

crew. After all his crew members have died is when he starts to appear sorrowful and begins to pray

Capitalize on Initial Excitement
As the Golden Knights prepare for their first season, it is vital that they capitalize on the excitement of
being the first professional sports team in Las Vegas. This entails selling enough tickets to fill the

Taking a Look at the Formalist Theory
The formalist approach of the four main types of literary criticisms, closely follow the idea of close
reading and emphasis on the text itself. Formalists invest time on the work of the author to determine
the meaning. They focus on structure, imagery, symbols, setting, and themes, completely disregarding
all other types of ideologies. In the text, To Build a Fire, by Jack London, these literary elements flood
the story, allowing it to be seen from a different perspective and giving it a whole new meaning. The
formalist approach will make the reader take into account all the different factors such as: characters,
situational irony, similes, and the use of symbolic vocabulary in relationship to tension and ambiguity.
All of these literary elements are not to be looked at individually, but by being put together it will
accurately describe the reader s experience. London s use of all the various elements such as: imagery,
characters, symbols, setting, and theme allows the reader to believe that there is a different meaning
behind the authors work. These literary elements may have also been used in numerous locations in
his text to allow us to uncover these hidden messages and meanings. As London wrote, To Build a Fire
, he didn t want just a simple story about a man on a journey through the Yukon, but a journey with
twists. He wanted to place a deeper meaning behind some items or objects that he used but didn t
mention in great detail. Formalists tend to pay close

the lies that counselors may tell themselves are not terrible self deceptions but rather strategies that
allow us to work in a field (Kottler, 2017). Interestingly, a counselor would tend to think that, in
general, all individuals are good people, even if it may be at times self deceptive. Counselors must
have an open mindset to have the ability to counsel clients. Therefore, a therapist will find and
encourage genuineness in a therapeutic relationship, build rapport with their clients as well as create

Zero Day Exploit
On the 26th of April 2014 a zero day vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE) was discovered by security
vendor FireEye . The exploit targeted defense and financial services companies using IE9 through
IE11 and was found on a very popular U.S. website. The malicious code was removed from the
website as soon as the host was notified, however in Microsoft advisory #2963983 released the same
day FireEye announced the exploit discovery, Microsoft provided limited guidance and did not state
when it would release a fix. Historically patches have occurred either before or on the day regular
security updates were released on a monthly cycle (typically the second Tuesday of each month).

Prior to the patch, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT) advised companies to
use an alternative browser until a fix was available, however for many companies that was not an
option since business applications often depended on IE. The attackers discovered by FireEye took
advantage of the fact that most people use PCs in administrator mode, which gave full access to the
system. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as
the current user. Once breaking into the system of such a user, the hackers proceeded to move within
the PC or network looking for ways to escalate the privileges and gain access to more data and/or
systems.
Both the Microsoft advisory and security update stated the best practice would be that companies
should only provide administrative access to people who have a need for it in doing their job.
Some experts recommend segmenting the corporate network to confine people to specific areas, which
would also contain the mischief of hackers. Any organization that has properly segmented their
network will be at low risk to sensitive data being accessed as a result of a breach related to this
attack, Brandon Hoffman, vice president of cybersecurity at RedSeal Networks has stated. Other
experts say that employees often find ways around these restrictions, which would then provide means
that cybercriminals could exploit. Ross Barrett, senior manager of Rapid7 stated, You

Research Paper On King David
King David had many sons and daughters. Most of them had tragic deaths or were physically abused.
But one of the king s sons would become the next king of Israel. He would also be the wisest person
to ever walk the earth. Although he would have many victories, he would also have a few losses. This
remarkable young child was named Solomon. Solomon was the tenth son of David and the second son
of Bathsheba. He had only grown up in the palace in Jerusalem, yet at a young age he had much
knowledge. He knew how brutal and dangerous the outside world was, and he also knew what it was

across, and 45 feet high. After 7 years, the temple was finally done.
Sadly, Solomon s reign wasn t all great. He had over 700 romantic relationships with different women.
Some of these women worshiped different gods, and Solomon turned his back on God. Many of these
wives were from foreign countries, and Solomon was using them to get allies. This disappointed God
and the people of Israel.
If the life of Solomon could be summed up in one verse, it would be 2 Chronicles 9:23. It states And
all the kings of the earth were seeking the prescence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had
put in his heart. Solomon alone solved many people s personal problems, and he was a good people
person. Even though he had some bad decisions, he was a faithful king and helped Israel become an
even better nation. He was a faithful servant to God in the beginning and was a great leader for Israel

Mark Twain, real name Samuel Clemons, is an American journalist and humorist. He wrote during the

language of the writing was the way people spoke to each other included common phrases, words, or

The Importance Of Happiness Is The Key To A Perfect Life
I once was told by my mother, happiness is the key to a perfect life . Throughout my life, I have
carried that statement in my heart. Those few words have taught me how valuable the little things in
life truly are. Some of the little things in life that allow me to be the happiest person I can be are the
following: My boyfriend Dominic, family, my dog Riley, and Netflix. Dominic brings out my
happiness by always makes sure I don t go a minute without smiling. If it wasn t for my family, I
wouldn t be where I am today and I m incredibly happy with how much they push me to be the best I
can be. When I m sad, my dog always knows how to cheer me up by licking my tears away or she lays
next to me and watches Netflix. Netflix makes me happy due to the fact that I don t have to do
anything but lay back and enjoy a funny movie or show with the people I love. These things are what
make my world go around every day.
Anytime that I am feeling stressed or down, Netflix cheers me up. Netflix allows me to sit back and
relax. Watching the tv provider, allows me to forget all my problems, and allows me to watch other
people have problems. Netflix to me is like a bottle of milk to a baby because its calms me down,
takes the stress away, and overall just makes me a happier person. The best part about watching
Netflix is when my dog Riley lays next to me to watch the other animals on the tv.
The best part of life, is owning an animal. Animals, such as dogs, are proven to help relieve stress

Discuss The Six Elements Of Tragedy
Tragedy is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; in language
embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in separate parts of the
play; in the form of action, not of narrative; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to
accomplish its catharsis of such emotions .
This definition of tragedy was created by Aristotle, one of the great philosophers of Ancient Greece
and one of the greatest thinkers of our time. Tragedy was not invented by Aristotle. Instead he used
examples from the works of famous Greek playwrights such as Sophocles, Euripedes and their
epigones to illustrate his ideas. He studied hundreds of texts in great detail and wrote extensively on

Aristotle claimed that the central aim of tragedy is not to depict human personalities, but to represent
human action. He highlights the importance of action because action initiates events; which in turn
makes it the single most important driver of plot. He argues that even though character and thought
drive action, they aren t as important as the action itself. Plot is the arrangement of incidents, and only
in plot can we find contentment, regardless of motivation or underlying cause.
When talking about plot, Aristotle describes the elements of plot, which include completeness,
magnitude, unity, determinate structure, and universality. Completeness refers to the necessity for a
tragedy to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Magnitude refers to its length; a tragedy should be
a length which can be easily embraced by the memory. However Aristotle maintains that the longer a
tragedy, the better it can be so long as it portrays a change from bad fortune to good, or from good

Phineas Gage Dualism
In the discussion of the human mind and how it actually works, there are a few distinct philosophical
concepts that many believe to be an accurate diagnosis. Three of these views are Dualism,
Physicalism, and Functionalism. They each portray a different view on how the mind functions in
some cases physically or even mentally and separate from the actual human brain. perfect way to
exam these approaches is to take an in depth look at the interesting case of Phineas Gage. Gage, born
in 1823, was a railroad construction worker in the northeastern region of the United States. On

of a human to change after enduring an entirely physical injury. Physicalism suggests that everything
about human beings can be explained just by looking at the pure physical processes of the body and
specifically the brain, so clearly it presents a sound argument for why Gage endured such a drastic
change in who he actually was. Gage according to dualism may have had the same mind, but
according the physicalism certainly did not have the same brain and therefore, to quote his coworkers,

Tristan And Iseult Comparative Essay
The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, by Joseph Bédier, and Jean Cocteau s 1943 cinematic adaptation
of the epic love story Eternal Return, both portray the love between Tristan and Iseult, and Patrice and
Natalie as an agonizing cancer that overpowers the lovers after they consume the love potion. But the
differences of how and when the love potion is administered, and the lovers feelings for each other

By Aman Agarwal(2015B5A7626G)
An insatiable thirst of identity, knowledge, love and wealth is central to the major characters of Guru
Dutt s Pyaasa . This thirst leads to an intertwining network of their fates where the characters
interactions on several intersections complements their development.
The protagonist Vijay portrayed by Guru Dutt himself, is a struggling poet whose excellence and art is
obscured by his social stature and lack of wealth. The movie kicks off with the camera panning a
supposedly colourful (as the film is black and white) garden where Vijay is seen restlessly lying and
romanticising nature in a Wordsworthian type of setting. But Guru Dutt adds a unique touch of
individual insignificance and sorrow to the exuberance of nature.
What little have I to add to this splendour, save a few tears, a few sighs.
This worthlessness of individual existence lingers in the whole movie which ultimately transforms
Vijay from a person struggling for recognition from the society to a person denying his own identity in
front of the society. A series of point of view shots, long and high shots through the streets of
Sonagacchi(Kolkata) in the song Jinhe naz hain hind par encapsulates the tumultuous perspective and
qualms of Vijay about the flawed social system. The dynamic nature of Vijay s character unfolds when
he witnesses betrayal and disappointment from the whole society and love from one

beliefs and attitudes that steam from self concept, will affect one s social surroundings. One will either

can cause one to have a poor perception of oneself. One s emotional state, dislikes, likes values and

William Blake had a vision. It was a thought that changed the way poetry and writing would be
viewed from here to eternity. Blake s point of views and associations with the characters represents a
change in the way the reader dictates who the victim is really and who is not. In Blake s The Chimney

Blake was society s unwillingness to accept and recognize new ideas and opportunities for change.

In one excerpt, The Chimney Sweeper, Blake, through religious symbolism, gives the image of an

Marriage Proposals
A marriage proposal is an occasion where one person in a relationship asks for the other s hand in
marriage. Overtime, marriage proposals have changed in virtually all cultures. In the 1800s, marriage
was more for social gain or monetary gain. However, marriage for love wasn t unknown. William
Collins proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice and Bradley
Headstone s proposal to Lizzie Hexam in Charles Dickens s Our Mutual Friend are perfect examples

Mr. Collins mostly speaks about another woman, his sponsor, Mrs. De Bourghs. To discuss another

Compare Remember And Longfellow
As one of the most frequently used themes, death has been portrayed and understood differently
throughout modern history as well as by poets Christina Rossetti and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in
Remember and the Cross of Snow. It appears in literature as the preeminent dilemma, one that is often
met by emotions such as grief, hopefulness, depression, and one that can encompass the entire essence
of any writing piece. However, despite Rossetti s Remember and Longfellow s Cross of Snow
employing death as a universal similarity, the tones, narratives, and syntaxes of the poems help create
two entire different images of what the works are about in the readers minds. At first glance, the theme
of death is clearly represented in both Remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker in Remember has a calm voice evident in the simplicity in the syntax of the poem which
is easy to understand starting from the first line, but is increasingly uncertain until it turns
commanding. Lines 3 to 8 show the uncertainties of the speaker as they do not know whether or not
they will be able to stay with the person they are writing the poem to (presumably a beloved someone)
or that they will be able to give them advice or pray . Yet, the tone takes on a strong personality when
the speaker says: Better by far you should forget and smile/Than that you should remember and be sad
(line 13 14) by this reassuring the recipient that no matter if the speaker dies, it is completely fine if
they are forgotten and by this giving the poem a much more lighthearted tone. Unlike Remember, the
Cross of Snow is not a mysterious poem, in fact, Newton Arvin s biography called Longfellow: His
Life and Work states that the poem was actually written to mourn his wife, who died horribly after her
dress caught on fire from an ember in the chimney as the couple rested. Although, Longfellow tried to
put the fire out, he did so unsuccessfully and in the meantime, burning his own face with scars he
covered up with his long beard. Moreover, Longfellow s wife was kept alive four days in hope of
curing her, but at that point no one could help and she died. The poem, therefore, picks up a tone of
isolation, emphasized by the cold atmosphere that the wintery scene

The Portrayal Of Heroes In Film Posters Of The Dark Knight
The Batman comics and movies have survived decades by captivating new audiences and eliciting a
cult following that has survived fifty years. Undoubtedly, the characters and plots of the films have
transformed to match the newer generation s preference for action and drama. Shifts have provided
heroes that cross the line of villains, and villains that have protagonist qualities. Upon comparing, the
first Batman movie s poster to the recent poster for The Dark Knight demonstrates the shift in the
portrayal of heroes and villains in family entertainment. Society today likes their roles of heroes and
villains to have transposable qualities, and movies that depict violence and action more prevalently.
Regardless of the changes, Batman will continue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fathers are eager to share their childhood favorite with their children, and with the revolution in plot
lines and amplified action scenes, dads are able to enjoy the films in a new light. Desensitized viewers
are not concerned with the high volume of violence and action in their comic style films. Today s
heroes are rugged, dark and questionable at times and their roles cross into the dark side , not drawing
a clear line between what is good or evil. The bottom is line that film companies make movie posters
that sell movies, and they pay close attention to the interests of their viewers to rake in millions of
dollars. Regardless of the decade in time, Batman will continue to evolve in

Argumentative Essay On Marie Antoinette
While many people may be familiar with the story of the French Revolution and history of Marie
Antoinette, they may not fully comprehend the lively debate that continues to exist around Marie
Antoinette. A debate over how Marie Antoinette should be remembered exists, with some arguing that
Antoinette was spoiled and careless and others taking the stance that Antoinette was a victim of her
harsh circumstances. Before delving into this controversy, background knowledge of Marie Antoinette
s life can assist in understanding the controversy. In 1770 at the age of fourteen, Marie Antoinette,
daughter of Austrian empress Maria Theresa, was married to Louis XVI of France to strengthen
French and Austrian relations. In 1774, Louis XVI became king and Marie Antoinette became queen.
Dissatisfaction toward Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and economic turmoil led the French
Revolution to begin in 1789, with Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette eventually being guillotined in
1793 (Covington 56 65). The main debate surrounding Marie Antoinette focuses on her role as queen
of France and the time leading up to the French Revolution. The literature surrounding Antoinette is
currently in stasis regarding Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution. The arguments mostly agree
that had Marie Antoinette not become the queen of France, the French Revolution still would have
occurred. The major debate focuses on the persona of Marie Antoinette and whether she should be
remembered as a wasteful and unconcerned ruler or as a queen who has been unjustly villainized.
While the arguments are generally in stasis that Marie Antoinette was not the sole cause of the French
Revolution, the legacy of Marie Antoinette continues to be a point of disagreement. This debate does
not directly influence the history of the French Revolution, but it does affect the overall understanding
of Marie Antoinette and her actions throughout her queenship. The first side of the argument presents
Marie Antoinette more negatively, blaming her for her unconcerned attitude. David Grubin supports
this viewpoint, establishing Antoinette s failings as a queen by explaining her indifference towards her
subjects and the wealth that made her ignorant toward the needy. Grubin

Educational Benefits Of Computer Games
Educational benefits of computer games for kids
Long before computers become common for home use, children from not well up families did not
have access to computers. This means that children did not involve themselves with computers and
computers games too. With computers becoming common not only to offices but homes too, children
are able to access the computer easily and more to it have given up their physical games to involve
themselves with computers games. To this effect, concern have been raised in form of thesis claiming
that children playing computer learning games learn faster and they retain what they have played.
The above thesis is true to some extent because it is taken like experiments done in higher level
education, the task will be retained in one s head. Likewise when a child plays a learning game that
requires he or she to practice a certain activity for a long time that point will stick to that kind s mind
the same way a student will vividly remember an experiment process carried out in the laboratory. It is
also noted that computer learning games form a part of entertainment. Research carried out by
institute of center for study of children, youth and media indicate that it is easier for children to
remember a movie they had watched sometimes back. Likewise through computer video games they
will remember the game as a video. Through this remembering of that game these children will be
recalling an educational concept.
Further indications shows that a

Present Tense In MSA
Present Tense
The present tense in MSA is usually indicated by the imperfective form. The imperfective form in
MSA is an ambiguous form. It can express all types of present tense in MSA, namely, it can be used to
give a right now reading, habitual present and present progressive. When researchers discuss the
present tense, they usually distinguish between two main groups of verbs that are state verbs and
dynamic or event verbs. State verbs usually give the right now reading. For example:
(32) a. amir un yaarifu al mushkilat a alaan Amir NOM know.IPFV.3SGM DEF problem ACC DEF
now ACC `Amir knows the problem now b. Mahir un yusaddiq u alibara alaan Mahir NOM
believe.IPFV.3SGM DEF statement DEF now ACC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, dynamic verbs in the imperfective form in MSA usually have two possible interpretations
and the context or adverbs determine one of them. For example, verbs in the imperfective form such
as yamshi `walk or yakulu `eat can have the two interpretations. Therefore, both verbs can be used
with adverb like kull a yawm in `every day which denotes a habitual interpretation or adverb like
alaan `now which denotes a progressive, Also, they are called stative or static

The Watsons Go To Birmingham Byron Bully
Byron was one of the main characters in the book The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963. At the
beginning of the book he was a Bully, he was self centered, and he was irresponsible. But towards the
end of the book, his personality started to change. He was a supportive, patient, and protective brother
to both Kenny and Joetta.
At the beginning of the book, he was a bully. He beat up Larry Dunn. He was the King of Clark but
unfortunately, Byron was the god. He beat up Larry Dunn for stealing Kenny s glove. Maybe Larry
Dunn stole Kenny s gloves because he was cold or maybe he didn t have enough money to buy gloves,
so his hands would be freezing. He also killed a mourning dove by hitting it with a Swedish creme
cookie. But after he killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was more of a very supportive brother. When Kenny was depressed Byron slept with him and told
him that it was okay and everything was going to be fine. When Byron hears that Joetta s church got
bombed he goes running out the door. Later Kenny saw him crying at the church and calling for
Joetta. He was also patient. When Kenny was crying in the bathroom he let him cry on his lap. In the
story, they say that Kenny cried more than when Joetta drooled all over Kenny s pants. He also looked
behind the couch once in a while to see if Kenny was okay. He also took time to play basketball with
him and make all his friends be nice to him. He was also very protective. He told Kenny not to go to
Collier s landing or the wool pool. But Kenny did anyways. Kenny started drowning and Byron went
to go and save him and gave Kenny kisses on the forehead. Byron was the one who finally got Kenny
to come out of hiding. Byron got to talk to Kenny about the bombing and Byron convinced Kenny that
there was nothing to be ashamed

  • 2. Psychoanalytic Analysis of Looking for Alaska Essay Katerina Syntelis Barbara Bontempo, Ph.D. ENG694 – Teaching Literature January 20, 2008 PSYCHOANALYTIC ANALYSIS OF LOOKING FOR ALASKA It seems natural to think about novels in terms of dreams or psychoanalytical realities. Like dreams, novels are fictions, inventions of the mind that, though based on reality, are by definition not exactly and literally true. Conversely, dreams may have some truth to tell but like novels their truth must be interpreted before it can be grasped. Such is the case with John Green s young adult novel, Looking for Alaska. It holds many truths that are relevant to young adults, but to extract those lessons, one must first view the plot and characters through a lens of psychoanalytical theory. ... He is only a colonel in that he has the ability to strategize and rank his troops for the purpose of prank deployment. And finally, the beautifully damaged, larger than life Alaska Young. As her name implies, she is so young to have the problems that she has and meet such an untimely demise. She is also aptly named Alaska because she is (or wishes to be) an unknown, mysterious, possibly dangerous frontier to her schoolmates. We learn well into the novel, that Alaska experienced a horrible tragedy when she was little: her mother had an aneurysm and died in front of her. Alaska, in shock, was unable to take any action to save her mother and has since tried to control situations with her own volatility and unpredictability. She manipulates those around her by alternating between being a misunderstood victim and an instigator of mischief. As an adult reader who has crossed over to the reality of life, reading about these characters can be a transparent, futile exercise because as adults looking back at youth we have the experience to know where these characters are headed before they even start their journey. However, for young adults who are still in the throes of existential angst this is a powerful novel that handles teenage rites of passage and coming of age issues such as loyalty, friendship, belonging, and even death and loss very well. • 3. Analysis Of Suffer The Little Children During the documentaries: Suffer the Little Children, and Educating Peter, many things were brought to attention about the treatment of Special needs individuals in the past and the more recent treatment in the school systems of the near present. Starting with Suffer the Little Children, it is amazing that such conditions were present in the United States as the mid to late 1900s, the treatment depicted would be thought by most people, to be that of the middle ages. Individuals were bound, beaten and subject to torture at the hands of a medical professional; forced to lie restrained in their own excrement, things thought to be fiction that would fill horror stories. However, on opposite end of the spectrum, we have the story of Peter, a child in the special needs class of his school. Peter was at first not accepted, but as time moved on, educators learned to handle his behavioral issues in a better way, and together they were able to have a happy ending; now peter enjoys school and is much better off. These documentaries bring forth things that may not have been known by the public, and create an awareness that some individuals have special needs and they have every right to the help they deserve. Throughout the documentary Suffer the Little Children, there were constant examples of outright cruelty toward the individuals of residing within the Pennhurst, and with its overcrowding there is no telling how many individuals went without out their required needs. • 4. Self Regulation And Effective Learning Essay Much research has shown the necessity for students to learn the behaviors that make up self regulation to learn successfully and be most effective in their personal and professional lives. Self regulation refers to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on their own standards, and provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly. In the experience of these authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors necessary for self regulation and effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation and how it affects the learning process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve self regulation; however, these authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first moment of contact with students. A classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, clearly understand expectations and receive timely responses allows students to gain confidence and trust the instructor. This type of environment sets the tone for the instructor then to share, model and shape strategies in students leading to self regulation. Introduction Social learning theory introduced the crucial concept of self regulation, which refers to the ability to monitor one s own behavior, judge the behavior based on one s own standards, and institute consequences of reinforcement or punishment. Why Do Catalans Have Their American Culture Another aspect that needs to be known in order to understand the reasons why Catalans pursue independence from Spain are their cultural characteristics. Catalan people have many distinct cultural traits that difference them from the Spanish culture. The main aspects are exposed below to help realize how Catalans have their own culture. Language Language is probably one of the most important characteristics traits for the Catalan people. Throughout the history, they have had to fight periods when the Catalan language was strictly prohibited. As mentioned earlier in this report, people were not allowed to speak it, they were not allowed to teach it in the schools, and they were not even allowed to give their children Catalan names. Even though it was prohibited, many Catalans that were in the exile continued to write books in Catalan, risking their life, to ensure that the language was not forgotten. • 11. Reflection Paper On Powerlifting Moment Powerlifting Progression After enduring months of intense conditioning, the time came for us to see if our work paid off. It was testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting 365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench. With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting. As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate. As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. Knowing that advancement in the weight room is enhanced through awareness, I greatly utilize this understanding of growth when considering my intellectual progression. If I want to become stronger in a particular lift, I start by highlighting details in individual segments of that lift that can be improved. I make similar observations in regards to my intellectual state; for example, stability exists as the foundation of my outlook on the world. From the atmosphere of my upbringing as a homeschool student, to my pastimes as a powerlifter and critical thinker, stability gives meaning to many properties that comprise my character. Being the third of eight children, most of the things I do have already been done before at least once in my family. • 12. Differing Opinions on the Controversial Death Penalty... The issue of capital punishment is one that has been in discussion for many years. How can anyone control the life of another human being? The accused may have taken the life of another citizen but what gives anyone the right to take his. This is the main point of the question but it gets vastly more complicated as the issue is further investigated. For instance, the psychopath who goes on a murderous rampage might have an abnormality with the frontal lobe of the cortex in his brain. Now, if this is the case this person may not be able to control his murderous impulses. So, should this person be punished, and not only should he or she be punished but should the punishment be done for retribution? After all, most punishment is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground. The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273) Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274) Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social contract and so this should not be respected upon them. Formalists invest time on the work of the author to determine the meaning. They focus on structure, imagery, symbols, setting, and themes, completely disregarding all other types of ideologies. In the text, To Build a Fire, by Jack London, these literary elements flood the story, allowing it to be seen from a different perspective and giving it a whole new meaning. The formalist approach will make the reader take into account all the different factors such as: characters, situational irony, similes, and the use of symbolic vocabulary in relationship to tension and ambiguity. The exploit targeted defense and financial services companies using IE9 through IE11 and was found on a very popular U.S. website. The malicious code was removed from the website as soon as the host was notified, however in Microsoft advisory #2963983 released the same day FireEye announced the exploit discovery, Microsoft provided limited guidance and did not state when it would release a fix. Prior to the patch, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT) advised companies to use an alternative browser until a fix was available, however for many companies that was not an option since business applications often depended on IE. The attackers discovered by FireEye took advantage of the fact that most people use PCs in administrator mode, which gave full access to the system. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the current user. Once breaking into the system of such a user, the hackers proceeded to move within the PC or network looking for ways to escalate the privileges and gain access to more data and/or systems. Both the Microsoft advisory and security update stated the best practice would be that companies should only provide administrative access to people who have a need for it in doing their job. Some experts recommend segmenting the corporate network to confine people to specific areas, which would also contain the mischief of hackers. Any organization that has properly segmented their network will be at low risk to sensitive data being accessed as a result of a breach related to this attack, Brandon Hoffman, vice president of cybersecurity at RedSeal Networks has stated. Other experts say that employees often find ways around these restrictions, which would then provide means that cybercriminals could exploit. Ross Barrett, senior manager of Rapid7 stated, You ... Plot is the arrangement of incidents, and only in plot can we find contentment, regardless of motivation or underlying cause. When talking about plot, Aristotle describes the elements of plot, which include completeness, magnitude, unity, determinate structure, and universality. Completeness refers to the necessity for a tragedy to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Magnitude refers to its length; a tragedy should be a length which can be easily embraced by the memory. This thirst leads to an intertwining network of their fates where the characters interactions on several intersections complements their development. The protagonist Vijay portrayed by Guru Dutt himself, is a struggling poet whose excellence and art is obscured by his social stature and lack of wealth. The movie kicks off with the camera panning a supposedly colourful (as the film is black and white) garden where Vijay is seen restlessly lying and romanticising nature in a Wordsworthian type of setting. But Guru Dutt adds a unique touch of individual insignificance and sorrow to the exuberance of nature. What little have I to add to this splendour, save a few tears, a few sighs. This worthlessness of individual existence lingers in the whole movie which ultimately transforms Vijay from a person struggling for recognition from the society to a person denying his own identity in front of the society. A series of point of view shots, long and high shots through the streets of Sonagacchi(Kolkata) in the song Jinhe naz hain hind par encapsulates the tumultuous perspective and qualms of Vijay about the flawed social system. • 43. Argumentative Essay On Marie Antoinette While many people may be familiar with the story of the French Revolution and history of Marie Antoinette, they may not fully comprehend the lively debate that continues to exist around Marie Antoinette. A debate over how Marie Antoinette should be remembered exists, with some arguing that Antoinette was spoiled and careless and others taking the stance that Antoinette was a victim of her harsh circumstances. Before delving into this controversy, background knowledge of Marie Antoinette s life can assist in understanding the controversy. In 1770 at the age of fourteen, Marie Antoinette, daughter of Austrian empress Maria Theresa, was married to Louis XVI of France to strengthen French and Austrian relations. In 1774, Louis XVI became king and Marie Antoinette became queen. Dissatisfaction toward Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and economic turmoil led the French Revolution to begin in 1789, with Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette eventually being guillotined in 1793 (Covington 56 65). The main debate surrounding Marie Antoinette focuses on her role as queen of France and the time leading up to the French Revolution. The literature surrounding Antoinette is currently in stasis regarding Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution. The arguments mostly agree that had Marie Antoinette not become the queen of France, the French Revolution still would have occurred. The major debate focuses on the persona of Marie Antoinette and whether she should be remembered as a wasteful and unconcerned ruler or as a queen who has been unjustly villainized. While the arguments are generally in stasis that Marie Antoinette was not the sole cause of the French Revolution, the legacy of Marie Antoinette continues to be a point of disagreement. This debate does not directly influence the history of the French Revolution, but it does affect the overall understanding of Marie Antoinette and her actions throughout her queenship. The first side of the argument presents Marie Antoinette more negatively, blaming her for her unconcerned attitude. David Grubin supports this viewpoint, establishing Antoinette s failings as a queen by explaining her indifference towards her subjects and the wealth that made her ignorant toward the needy. It is also noted that computer learning games form a part of entertainment. Research carried out by institute of center for study of children, youth and media indicate that it is easier for children to remember a movie they had watched sometimes back.
