First Three Laws Of Nature By Thomas Hobbes
The first three laws of nature according to Thomas Hobbes were a way to put an end to the state of
war. These laws are based on the idea of a social contract between two human beings that involves
mutual rights between parties. In this answer I will describe how these laws can bring about peace in
society.
Since all of these laws are brought together through peace, according to Hobbes the first law deals
with seeking out peace where war is not an option. Hobbes believes that in order for man to preserve
life he must seek out peace and if peace is achieved this will prevent us from the state of war. In today
s society our goal is to advance the global peace system by supporting and collaborating with
peacebuilding efforts.
The second law of nature deals with the surrendering of our natural rights in order to achieve peace
that we are seeking. If a person does not give up their natural right, they are considered a threat to the
existence of peace among a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This law is the foundation for human justice but because of the human desire for power, there is
always an incentive to break this contract despite the logic of the third law and the natural mandate to
preserve our own lives (Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16). Other natural laws and eventually the
concept of sovereignty must come into play in order to preserve functionality of this third law
(Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16).
According to Hobbes if all individuals follow these three natural laws there is a greater chance of
peace in society. In a social contract between individuals, there is an agreement to give up their natural
rights. Hobbes uses this theory to explain the relationship between individuals and others in society
and how they can live free from constant conflict and maintain the peace in

Importance Of Proofs Of Teaching Mathematical Proofs
For many math students around the world, proofs are dreaded; they are seen as pointless memorization
of obvious ideas. These are most student s beliefs because they have never truly been taught or
experienced the true purposes of proofs. Zaslavsky, Nickerson, Stylianides, Kidron, and Winicki
Landman (2012) write to discuss the importance of teaching mathematical proofs in school. They
continue on to express reasons why students need proofs and the multiple ways in which teachers can
facilitate the learning and importance of proofs to their students. Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite numerous
reasons for the importance of proofs, but the most prominent reasons include strengthening student s
ability to communicate mathematical knowledge, to instill problem solving skills and methods, and
lastly, to fulfill human intellectual needs. Each of these reasons have been supported by research, and
also come with challenges and concerns. The most basic reason Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite as to why
proofs should be taught in school is because doing so can increase and strengthen student s abilities to
communicate mathematical knowledge. Most students are more than capable of applying formulas and
solving the problems presented to them in classes with a little practice. A majority of these students,
however, have no clue as to why the methods they are using work, or if they will work with any set of
numbers they are presented (Yopp, 2009). Proof researcher David Yopp (2009) has observed

Analysis Of Little Women By Louisa May Alcott
Born on this day in 1832, Louisa May Alcott led a fascinating life. Besides enchanting millions of
readers with her novel Little Women, she worked as a Civil War nurse, fought against slavery, and
registered women to vote. For Louisa, writing was an early passion. She had a very deep and rich
imagination and her novels often became the basis of melodramas that she and her sisters would act
out for their friends. Louisa preferred to play the lurid parts in these plays the villains, ghosts, bandits,
and disdainful queens. Scholars have argued that Little Women affects critics emotionally because of
their adolescent connection to the story, thus coloring scholarly interpretations of the work. This essay
will talk about Alcott and the three critics Judith Fetterly, Ken Parille and Sarah Wordsworth who
criticized the story Little Women from different perspectives.
Louisa May Alcott was a prolific writer who drew inspiration for her work from her personal
experiences. This novel takes a place in the civil war, when the march family is divided, the father is
at the work and the only way they communicates with each other is by letters were their father
instructs them to be better and to fight their inner demons. When the story begins the girls are in a
state of self centered, they were complaining about being poor, every girl had her own dream, and they
are all far from being poor. Amy wanted to be an artist, Meg wanted rich luxurious life and Jo wanted
to become a

Evolution Of Zombies In The 21st Century
Throughout the history of filmography, the genre of zombies has changed from its origin in the early
1900s to its current conception in the 21st century. Zombies are known for being lifeless, brain eating,
and slow moving undead creatures. In movies and shows, we often see them feasting upon the living
where there are protagonists or better known as the survivors, fighting for survival. The similarities we
see 2015 in comparison to the 1930s illustrate zombies as more gorey, with less human features or
characteristics. In the early 1930s, zombies stemmed from a Haitian tradition; which incorporated the
use of a voodoo spell that reanimated the dead. Now it s a murderous virus that spread and turn the

Mental Health Care In Prison
The number of aging people in the prison system has and will continue to have a major impact on
health care. Not only while they are in jail but once they are released the cost of health care for these
individuals is still a burden. While incarcerated many illnesses go untreated. Usually there are a
couple different factors in this situation, one is mental health and the other is unmet psychosocial
needs. Many people that are employed by the prison system don t have the proper training to know
how to test for the vast mental illnesses that need to be tested for. Then on the other hand if they have
the training they are understaffed and don t have time to get to everyone that needs the help. While
there has been many studies on how to improve health care while in prison, there is still a lot of
research that needs to be done to get a better handle on the financial aspect. ... Show more content on

criminal health care system, it is not only effecting them but the public health care as well. It is hard
for those who are released back into the public to get on the insurance that they require. A parolee can
wait months to get some kind of insurance, in the months that are spent waiting they often go to the
emergency room. They often cannot pay the fees that come along with going to the emergency room,
because it is harder for them to get employment. They are not as likely to be employed based on their

Estrella Character Analysis
In this excerpt from the novel under the feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes, we are introduced
to a young girl named Estrella. Throughout the excerpt Estrella s character changes and develops in
many ways. The author reveals these changes through her usage of literary devices such as selection
of detail, figurative language, as well as tone. When we are first introduced to Estrella We learn that
she is a curious child. A child who wants to know everything about everything. The author states when
Estrella first came upon Perfecto s red tool chest like a suitcase near the door, she became very angry.
she opened the tool chest and all that jumbled steel inside the box, the iron bars, and things with
handles, the funny shaped objects seemed as confusing and as foreign as the alphabet she could not
decipher... she slammed the lid closed on the secret. For days she was silent with rage. Through this
use of imagery as well as selection of detail we are able to learn a lot about our character Estrella. We
learn that she views the red tool box as this secret, this secret that she doesn t she seem to understand.
This lack of understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perfecto Flores helps her to unlock these secrets. She soon learns the secret behind screwdrivers, the

fascinates her. She wants to learn more, not just about the tools, just more in general. She wants to
expand her way of thinking and discover the mysteries of the things around her. The author states She
lifted the pry bar in her hand, felt the coolness of iron and power of function, weighed the significance
it awarded he, and soon she came to understand how essential it was to know these things. That was
when she began to read. Estrella has come to learn the significance of learning and she wants to

Philosophy of Ethics Essay
The word ethics comes from Greek ethikas meaning character. Today, we use ethics to describe the
normative standard of behavior. The history of philosophical ethics has been broken up into five
rational methods: Virtue, Traditional, Modern, and Post Modern Ethics. Within these periods, the
philosophy of ethics changed along with the changes being made within society. The first rational
method is Virtue Ethics. The major philosophers during this period were materialists such as Plato,
Aristotle, Epicurus, and Plutarch. Greek were concerned with finding eudaimonia meaning the good
life, but what is the good life? Known as the greatest Western philosopher, Plato developed the

One of the last major philosophers of Virtue Ethics was Plutarch who advocated virtue but disagreed
with Epicurus because he believed there was no true pleasure. At this same time, between 400 B.C. 40
B.C. Stoic philosophers such Cicero, who combined the philosophies of Aristotle and Plato, developed
his idea on ethics and how everyone has a duty and should imitate virtue for others. He said duty has
two points which are to achieve the Supreme Good, and follow the rules for daily living. Cicero was a
strong believer in rationality incorporated Plato s Cardinal Virtues into his three rules of conduct:
master desires through reason, know true value of goals and be moderate in actions and lifestyle.
Following Virtue Ethics, a major shift occurred in thinking. The philosophers of Virtue Ethics were
materialists and believed we only have what we have and after death, we have nothing. Traditional
Ethics shifted the focus on religion once it began to spread. Also known as Biblical Ethics,
philosophers started a systematic study of Biblical themes and principles surrounding ethics and
morality. St. Augustine was trained as a philosopher and combines his understanding of the Bible to
ethics by answering the same question as Plato and Aristotle did, What is the highest good? He
answered this question with happiness just like Aristotle but since Aristotle

Background; Readings on Vapor pressure, Raoult s Law from TRO: A mixture of the essential oils,
eugenol and acetyleugenol, will be steam distilled from cloves. These compounds are isolated from
aqueous distillate by extraction into dichloromethane. The dichloromethane solution is shaken with
aqueous sodium hydroxide, which will react with eugenol, to yield the sodium salt of eugenol in the

A Study On Admiralty Law And Maritime Law
UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 ABOUT SUBJECT: Admiralty Law or Maritime Law is a distinct
body of domestic laws that supervene upon the maritime activities (like marine commerce, sailors
related aspects, marine navigation, marine shipping, marine salvaging and transportation of passengers
and goods by sea). It has also been governing questions and offenses related to maritime activities and
other sub heads. Broadly, it is a more of a private international law related subject that governs the
relationship between private entities that operate vessels on the oceans. Keeping in view the
distinction with respect to the subject matters of Public and Private international law, it is mandatory
to specify the distinction between The Law of the Seas and The admiralty law and the chapters

John Macarthur s The Myth Of Creationism
Introduction John Macarthur is a best selling author and pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun
Valley, California. He is the current president of The Master s College and Seminary. He also has a
national syndicated radio program Grace to You. I believe the author s intention was to debunk the
myth of evolution. John MacArthur addresses creation from a Biblical standpoint. The book targets a
primarily a Christian audience and makes a strong case for a literal six day creation. This is not a book
that fundamentally concentrates on persuading unbelieving evolutionists of creationism, yet rather it
focuses on convincing Christians who trust that in some type of advancement, (for example, old earth
creationism or the Gap Theory) that the primary perusing of Genesis one and two is a strict perusing.
MacArthur constructs a significant part of the book with respect to the view that Evolution is itself a
religion that is entirely contradicted to Christianity. Creationism and Evolution, along these lines, can
never be blended. We should have faith in it is possible that either.
Subsequent to giving numerous reasons why Evolutionism is contradictory to God and His outline, the
book spends a section on each of the days of creation. In every part, the creator demonstrates why
something besides an exacting six day creation is outlandish. In this manner, he gives important cases
of the miracles and wonders of creation. A large part of the book is centered around disproving

Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World
Lauren Estes
Modern Philosophy
Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the
reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while others
declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The word
truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the truth. The
truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be true for me.
Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is not? Although
there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world, I tend to lead
towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the skeptics arguments
are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know anything with absolute
certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny appearances seem to me to be
ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not deny appearances, he just is
aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external world. Sextus Empiricus infers,
honey appears to use to have a sweetening quality. This much we can concede, because it affects us
with a sensation of sweetness. The question, however, is whether it is sweet in an absolute sense (SE
Handout 38). Skeptics are not crazy humans that simply

My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment
For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on campus
by Mr. Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield the Cat syndicated comics. The event took place in Sursa
Hall inside the Music Instruction Building, and it lasted an hour and half long from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
This lecture occurred on Wednesday, February 15th. In his speech, Mr. Davis talked about his youthful
years, the initial challenges he faced, the business strategies he used, and the wild adventure he
endured throughout his comical Garfield business adventures. Regarding his desired response from the
audience in his speech, Mr. Davis made it overtly clear that he wanted the audience to listen and learn

Otherwise, there seemed to be no significant or obvious distinction amongst members. The attitudinal
makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most known for
being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when he planned his
lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the Garfield comics give to
the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than
effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience
was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s
attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began
his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the
interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented
his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the
administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the
other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never
overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Concerning the support
used in the speech, Mr. Davis relied heavily on qualitative

Comparing Doerr s Obsession With Birds

character in All the Light We Cannot See, exhibits an obsession with birds, which reflects his desire
for freedom. His desire is never satisfied, as his character meets a restricting, dismal future. The

The Pros And Cons Of Current Account Deficit
The current account is an important component of the balance of trade system of our country. It is a
measurement of a country s trade where the value of the goods and services it exports. A current
account deficit represents negative sales abroad. A country undergoing current account deficit results
in foreign liabilities and debt with the rest of the world. This further leads to payback of foreign
current account reserves. Current Account includes imports and exports of goods and services and
unilateral transfers of goods and services. Current account deficit in simple words is the economic
situation when the total imports are more than the exports. This means that the country is importing
more than exporting which requires the country to pay for the goods and services it imports. This
leads to an unfavorable economic situation. The present record is a ... Show more content on

A positive current record adjust demonstrates that the country is a net moneylender to whatever is left
of the world, while a negative current record adjusts shows that it is a net borrower from whatever is

the overflow, and a present record shortfall diminishes it by that sum. A nation s adjust of current
account is the net or distinction between the nation s exports of products and enterprises and its
imports of merchandise and ventures, disregarding all money related current accounts, speculations,
and different segments, over a given timeframe. A nation is said to have a current account surplus if its
export surpass its imports and a current account deficit if its imports surpass its current account.

The Ford Mustang from Start to Finish
Building a car is no simple task, as shown in this video of how a Ford Mustang is made from start to
finish. The process of assembling a car is one that requires a large amount of both human and material
resources. This video shows every subassembly, bolt, and piece of metal that is used in creating the
resulting product, a Ford Mustang. Even though one part or one ... Show more content on

must now be checked for any faults that may cause the car to fail under any condition. This is done by

on its 9 mile journey along the assembly line. The door is then attached by a very precise machine;
this process is called setting the door . Then the rear deck fixture is attached by another machine and is
welded on. The hood, which is added on next, is not made of steel, but rather it is plastic in order to
reduce weight of the car, and therefore reduces gas mileage. The cars then arrive at the paint shop. The
cars receive a coat called the E Coat which allows paint to be attracted to the car electrostatically and
protects it against rust and corrosion as well. The cars are then clocked , which is basically sealing any
openings on the car. The car is then polished very carefully to prepare for the coat of paint that is
applied and chosen electronically on a computer. This allows the paint to have a smooth, even coat,
and a consistent texture and color. The clear coat is put on after the paint to make the car look polished
and shiny. The car is then baked in three ovens, the final one reaching a temperature of 280 degrees.
The Paint Expert then checks for the paint is applied

Disadvantages Of Rohingya
Rohingya s are a Muslim ethnic minority group that has lived as an inhabitance in Mayanmar for
centuries, Today more than a million of them lives in the country, most in the western coastal state of
Rakhine . Where they make up around a third of the population .They speak their own language which
is not recognized by the state. It is one of the poorest states in the country with ghetto like camps and a
lack of basic service and opportunities due to ongoing violence persecution, hundreds and thousands
of Rohingya have fled to neighbouring Countries either land or boat over the course of many decades.
Muslim have lived in the area now known as Myanmar since as early as the 12th century, according to
many historians and Rohingya groups. The Arakan Rohingya national organization has said Rohingya
have been living in Arakan from time immemorial referring to the area known as Rakhine. After
independence the government viewed the migration that look place during British rule as illegal , and
it is on this basis that they refuse citizenship to the majority of Rohingya. This has led many Buddhists
to consider the Rohingya to be Bengali, rejecting the term Rohingya as a recent invention, created for
Political reasons. In 2010, when the military leaders released pro democracy leader of Mayanmar
Ayng San Suu Kyi from house arrest, Most of the political leaders thought Burma was beginning to
change for the better. When they demanded citizenship they also asked for the state that had been
promised to them. Ultimately the army crushed the resistance movement. Hundreds and thousands of
desperate Rohingya people are fleeing a vicious military purage in Myanmar. Troops have burned
scores of villages, beheading men raping women, and even killing children. In some place, Buddhist
militias and people have joined in the attacks against the Muslim majority Rohingya. The Myanmar
army and government call their assault a counterterrorist operation, but the U,N, has labeled it a text
book example of ethnic cleansing. The government of Myanmar officially recognizes 135 ethnic

In this rapid growing global market, there are tons of competitions and challenges Chase has to
confront, especially in Hong Kong, such a small but complex market. If Chase were so greedy to
cover all the financial fields, its competitors will definitely beat it black and blue. Apart from that,
Chase has to distinguish itself with other banks, which makes it a unique investment bank not just a
commercial bank simply issues loans. Thus, Chase smartly choose to occupy the leading position
specifically in the field of syndicated finance, while remain influential in other areas.
2. Country Risk Evaluation Hong Kong and China Chase bank saw many opportunities in regards to
the development of Hong Kong Disney. Although there were many risks and costs involved with the
large project, they saw the choice of entering into syndication as an opportunity to expand their
operations. Chase saw opportunity to not only help advance their syndication status but to help Hong
Kong boost their economy due to the recent recession. As a result of the Disneyland Paris downturn in
sales, Hong Kong Disney took on the opposite approach, a more conservative capital structure, which
along with the government commitment to the project enhanced Chase s decision to back the project.

How Did The Navajo Code Talkers Help The Allies
There was a group of Navajo men, called Code Talkers, that played a major part in helping the Allies
in World War II. Their work was so successful for multiple reasons.
Code Talkers were Navajo men who used their native language to develop a code that was
indecipherable to Japanese cryptologists. In the beginning there were twenty nine Navajo men
creating the codes, called the Original 29, but several hundred Navajos would join and learn the code.
For years the Navajos were unable to speak of what they did in the war, but now they ve been given
authorization to tell their tale. Their code played a major part in helping the Allies win the war. The
article states that, The group participated in every assault the Marines conducted in the Pacific,
sending thousands of covert messages regarding the movements of Japanese troops, battlefield tactics,
and other details that would prove critical to the war s ultimate outcome, proving that the Code ...

The reason being that the Navajos native language was unwritten. The article explains, After basic
training in 1942, Nez s platoon was tasked with developing a code, based on the then unwritten

hummingbird, for example, the Original 29 came up with an alphabet and a glossary of more than 200
terms. This shows that because the language was unwritten, you d have to know the language to even
have a chance of figuring out the codes. The Code Talkers were the walking carriers of the code and
each message that was read by a Code Talker, was destroyed immediately afterwards. The Navajo
code was so indecipherable, that a Navajo soldiers that had been captured by the Japanese, couldn t

Airline Deregulation
On October 24, 1978, President Carter signed into law the Airline Deregulation Act. The purpose of
the law was to effectively get the federal government out of the airline business. By allowing the
airlines to compete for their customers travel dollars, was the thinking, that fares would drop and an
increased number of routes would spring up.
Expected Results
The results of airline deregulation speak for themselves. Since the government got out of the airline
business, not only has there been a drop in prices and an increase in routes, there has also been a
remarkable increase in airline service and safety. Airline deregulation should be seen as the crowning
jewel of a federal de regulatory emphasis. Prices are down: Airline ... Show more content on

But the legislation winding its way through the legislative maze that is Congress does anything but
move towards increased privatization. S. 1331, sponsored by Senator John McCain (R AZ), would
make it more difficult for large carriers to offer low fares. The justification for this action it to make
entry into the market easier, and therefore increase competitiveness within the industry. But while this
may enable small airlines to enter markets, it essentially creates an affirmative action program for
corporations that are inefficient by reserving runway space for these airlines.
The only good language in the Senate bill is that which would eliminate perimeter restrictions on
Washington s Ronald Reagan Airport. This would kill the rule that prevents flights to and from
National from more than 1250 miles away. While this may just be a measure so that Congressmen
won t have to drive to the out of town Dulles Airport in Virginia, it is a good precedent to set for other
airports and the elimination of market restrictions.
The House has a companion bill, H.R. 2748, which does not go as far as the Senate bill in its
regulatory language. But Speaker Newt Gingrich (R GA) has predicted that Congress will pass some
airline bill this term. A senior aide for a Republican on the House Transportation and Infrastructure
Committee said, I don t know if the two sides will come together this year.

The Saint Louis County Emergency Operations Plan
Question 1
The Saint Louis County emergency Operations plan has the fundamental mission of establishing the
emergency guidelines for the County and other offices to follow during a major incident or disaster
situation ( St Louis County BEOP, 2013). It includes all requirements for request for assistance and
informs at all levels what their responsibilities are during a response incident. The plan was designed
to address all hazards that affect the county and everyone that lives in it. This is a plan that does not

The command and control of the plan starts with the County Executive as the lawful person authorized
to declare an emergency. The County Executive is supported by four groups Executive Policy Group,
Disaster Advisory Team, Emergency Management Office Staff and Operations Group ( St Louis
County BEOP, 2013). The plan includes a line of secession that takes into account the County
Executive not being available or if he/she becomes incapacitated for any reason. This line of secession
is an element that is extremely important for the continuity of any plan. Establishing the line of
secession within a plan allows for everyone to be informed of who is in line if something happens and
what provisions are required for the assumption of duties if the senior official becomes unavailable

The Necessity Of Lying In Honestly, Tell The Truth

she told her friend she was busy. Velin was to lazy to get up and get dressed by the heat so she lied to

For example, in the article, The U.S political Campaign by Time Magazine, states that, lying to protect
others can literally be a matter of life and death. Lying isn t necessary in a crisis if its someones life on

article, Honestly, tell the truth by Barbara Ballinger, Blanton states, We shouldn t manipulate the truth
except for rare times, if you re hiding Anne Frank in your attic because her life is in danger. When you

Frank they would more likely die hiding her. Lying is justified in some occasions. Some people may
argue about lying because it breaks trust. For example in the article, America conflicted about lying, it
states, Once a person finds out you lied then they lose currency in their eyes. This argument is wrong
because if you really loved that friend or someone important they wouldn t take it like that. They
would take it as you trying not to hurt their feelings or break your relationship with each

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree
The poems The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats and To Autumn by John Keats have
some similarities as well as some differences. Both authors talk about the sounds like water, animals,
birds, and insects. Also, they talk about the scenery, for instance, sunset over the lake and trees full of
fruits. But one author talks about moving a place far from city and the other talks about how one
season is different from the others. The language in these poems is soothing because the poets wrote
their poems in a way in which a reader could picture it and imagine the sounds, both the poems have
imagery. The different interpretations of the poets language influences on how the poem is understood
by the reader. Both authors talks about the peaceful sounds of nature and captivating views of
landscape but they have different settings. In the poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree, Yeats talks about
moving to an island, Innisfree, far from the city life because it is peaceful there. He does not like the
environment in the city because it is too noisy. In the poem, Yeats write: I hear lake water lapping with
low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep
heart s core. (10 13) He can hear the sound of the water in his heart and misses Innisfree. There, he

The false gospel like Malware in a computer, will damage the relationship between God and the

Furthermore, Christians must trust the authenticity of the Word and not be fooled by those who try to

Don t you see the family resemblance?
A wise epigrammatist once said, the unexpected is usually what brings the unbelievable . Remember
the Titans a non fiction sports drama, illustrates a sports narrative with a look at racial discrimination
during the civil rights era. Director and producer Boaz Yakin and Jerry Bruckheimer respectively,
paint a dramatic and emotional image of 1970 Virginia, when a community of African Americans and

Seane Corn s Proposal
Brief Review
Seane Corn s podcast was two fold: educational and invigorating. Hearing her talk about her journey
to happiness is a true testimonial to naysayers who are having doubts about the positive effects of
yoga. Corn s journey to happiness, as she conveyed, was not an easy one. She had to clamber her way
from an unsettled place as a child growing up in unstable home. She explained how her blue collar
working class parents raised her in an environment where religious practices were not present and
how, as a little girl, she thought of herself as uneducated. She abused drugs and the tender age of 19
was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She even suffered from an anxiety disorder but
these dark episodes of her life eventually led to healing and happiness once she discovered yoga.

through yoga. In a nutshell, Corne s says one can use positions of one s body as a way as an actively

be a form of sending prayers God in the heavens. As I reflect on body prayer, I feel it would not be

could be in my life. I am a spiritual person who believes in the power prayer. I believe that God

to a failure to manufacture and package foods under proper conditions and controls which are

four states and has been linked to ice cream made in Blue Bell Creameries. This essay will analyze the
effects that milk have on the human body and will provide evidence that cow s milk does not do a
body good as the advertising world would lead a person to believe. The average American child drinks
two or three glasses of milk per day as recommended by most health professionals. The prevailing
perception in America is that dairy cows are healthy animals raised on farms that are focused on
animal welfare and organic feeding practices, for the purposes of producing high quality milk for
young cows and humans. Farmers harvest the milk product, using only the safest techniques, to supply
supermarkets with milk. All this is done so that people may enjoy the health benefits from its
nutrients, thus living strong healthy lives. Unfortunately, that perception is wrong. Furthermore, cow s
milk can contain harmful bacteria, as well as, a surplus of undesirable additives. Accordingly, milk
should be considered the world s most over rated source of nutrients. In the business of dairy farming,
there are two key drivers: quality of milk and the health of the cows. On large, industrialized dairy

Population Overpopulation Over Population
overpopulation and population density
When we think of population density most people aren t positive on this is actually means. In this
essay, I will state why population density is becoming a problem in today s society and how this is
having an effect on our environment, political, and economic state of countries. According to
dictionary.com population density is the number of people living per unit of an area (e.g. per square
mile); the number of people relative to the space occupied by them
After some secondary research, I found out that the continent of Asia has the highest population
density in the world if we look at the statistics on geolounge.com the countries with the highest
population density are Asia, Africa, and North America. If we narrow this down to induvial countries
we can see from this graph on the right that there is a cluster within Asia, the country that shows us
this is China is overpopulated because of the colour of the country and if you refer it back to the map.
Once you refer it back to the map you can see that China has approximately 150 people living per
square kilometre in China, this is mainly because of highly over populated cities in China. For
example, Hong Kong, Hong Kong has a high population density of 6,349 people living per square
kilometre, which is massive compared to different smaller countries like The Republic of China
(Taiwan) who have a population density of 639 people per square kilometre. I know this by referring

Groundwater Pumping In Florida
Groundwater Pumping The state of Florida is very dependent on groundwater, primarily for public and
agricultural supply. Indeed, the largest source of drinking water in Florida is groundwater from the
state s massive aquifer system; approximately ninety percent of the state s drinking water is extracted
from groundwater sources (Marella, 2004). According to Marella (2004), Between 1970 and 2000,
total freshwater withdrawals increased for public supply by 176 percent and for agricultural self
supplied by 87 percent (p. 1). As discussed previously, a growing population correlates with an
increase in the demand for groundwater resources. Groundwater is currently being pumped out of
Florida s aquifers faster than the state s abundant rainfall can refill them (Barnett, 2007, p.2). The
excessive pumping of groundwater can create subsurface voids because of the lowering of the water
table, which can lead to the development of sinkholes due to gravity and a loss of fluid pressure
support (Tihansky, 1999, p. 132). Waltham et al (2005) contend, The most widespread cause of
induced sinkholes is any form of water table decline, where the vertical drainage is quite literally

Similarities And Differences Between The Matrix And The...
The Allegory of the Cave by Plato illustrates a classic story of ignorance and enlightenment. The
ancient text puts forth symbols of self awareness and higher knowledge to show the different stages of
enlightenment needed to see true reality. Men are prisoners in a cave and have never seen the light of
day. They only see the wall of the cave and the shadows cast onto it. One of the men becomes free and
leaves the cave to experience the outside world. At first, the man does not understand this new world
because for his whole life the cave wall had been his reality. He eventually becomes enlightened when
he is forced to see the sun, which is a symbol of enlightenment. Similar tropes are later used to tell a
story that questions reality in the movie, The Matrix. In The Matrix, The main character, Neo,
discovers that the world he thought was real was nothing more than a computer simulation. Neo is
pulled from this false reality and shown the true world. Neo must overcome his disbelief and learn to
accept the new reality laid out before him. The man in The Allegory must also learn to accept a truer
reality. The Matrix and The Allegory of the Cave share many similarities in their plot, symbols, and
characters, but also have several differences. To begin, The Matrix and the Allegory contain many of
the same key plot points. Both works have their characters go through life oblivious of a truer world
beyond what they currently see. Neo experiences the matrix and the men in the cave

Literary Devices In The Stranger, By Albert Camus
In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Camus uses a variety of literary devices in order to
create a moment of inward reflection from readers, in which we reflect on just how absurd our
existence is. Camus expresses his critique through one major character, Meursault, and a few minor
characters as well. Camus s use of irony pushed readers to look beyond the surface, and come to the
conclusion of where the irony was displayed. Camus also made use of ironic moments in order to
contrast the expectations of society, to how Meursault differs from that, all to gradually expose the
hypocrisy of mankind. Camus generally uses this literary device in order make us evaluate our own
selves and more importantly to display the fact that we as people can be truly happy, only if we accept
our fate, instead of fighting it. In a way, he s suggesting we be more like Meursault. Examples of this
would be the funeral caretaker insisting that Meursault view his mother s body, and Meursault
continuously refusing. Camus does this to make people think: what exactly is wrong with Meursault
not wanting to see his dead mother? Through this technique camus shows societal expectations of how
people are supposed to mourn lost, and certain responses to lost are deemed abnormal. Thus Meursault
s lack of grief automatically made him an outsider. Other uses of irony can be shown through
Meursault s interactions with the chaplain, and the authority involved in his criminal case played out
later on in the

Pluralism And The American Dream
A pluralistic society with pluralism is what the United States has always strived towards (Friedman).
The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has been known
for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely linked to the
ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an equal opportunity
through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these methods every United States
citizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and success. However this theory, whilst
wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact, it can be said that the American Dream

grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class the gap
between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This growing
separation is further proof of the American Dream becoming more elusive for more people
(Meacham). One could say that the separation not only makes the American Dream more elusive, but
is a contributing factor to the death of the Dream. Often American citizens, when income has failed,
have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer

Body Shape Of Beauty
In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect
body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the
American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up
with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for
women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to
make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn
making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because
America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body
shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven
for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were
the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was
paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean
figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn
Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller.
However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and
give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s
hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and
pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to
be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus
sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much
as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone
through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The heavier a man
was, the more attractive

Individual and Society in Virginia Woolf s Novel quot;mrs...
According to Viktors Ivbulis (1995: 23 29) in Modernist fiction a special attention is paid to an
individual who degrades because of the pressure from the society and is therefore shown as a small
part of the society being unable to do miracles. Moreover, the 20th century s fight for the power makes
the rights of an individual be dependent on the rights of the society. This individual is not a personality
anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. It is a simple person, who is depressed by
the highly technological world and the demands of the society and is therefore lonesome and isolated.
An individual cannot compete successfully for his place in the society, as he does not even know his
enemy. Therefore, he has to die ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
V. Ivbulis (23:1995) stresses that in Modernist fiction an individual in this technologically developed
world has become trivial. The world wide market of goods, the fake blaze of the mass culture, the
variety of the offers on TV and radio, and the developing power of all this over an individual has made
him small. Also in Mrs Dalloway Clarissa is of less importance than the position she holds in the
society. Everyone who comes to the party is interested only in the luxuriance and the possibility to be
at least for some time in the higher levels of the society. For example, Ellie Henderson, who is a
cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she would find something to wear on and to be among those
people from the higher levels of society: It was an event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat
just to see the lovely clothes. They go to this party at Mrs Dalloway s to show off, to show themselves
in a possibly richer way. They do not go there to meet Mrs Dalloway. She is as if only a person to
meet them at the entrance.
According to Viktors Ivbulis (23:1995) in Modernist fiction due to the fact that an individual is
subjected to the pressure of the society he degrades and is, therefore, shown as a very small part of the
society. He cannot do heroic deeds. In Virginia Woolf s novel Mrs

How Is Thailand Different From The Us
When comparing Thailand and the United States of America, there are many differences. For example,
the way each country is located on the globe. Thailand is located below and closer to the equator than
the U.S., where it is above the equator and a little farther from it. On the other hand, both countries
have a lot of beautiful places and are surrounded by body of oceans. Lots of people like to visit these
two countries; however, most people in Thailand want to move to the U.S. for jobs and better lives.
Most people in the U.S. like to visit Thailand for good food and warm weather. Although, not all
differences are bad, there are some major differences that make living in one country better than the
other. Those include lifestyle, education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a person buys a house in Thailand, they make one payment and the house become theirs
forever. In America, when most people buy a house, they have to make payments for many years, with
interest. There are also differences in getting licenses to drive, fish, or own a gun, for example. In
Thailand, there is no need for any license before being able to do any of those. On the hand, in the
U.S., people are required to take tests and buy licenses before they can drive, fish, or own a gun.
Thailand is a poor country, so education isn t very important. Most families that do not have money
are either working at the farms or working for rich people. Going to school cost money, so only those
who can pay get an education. In America, anyone can go to public school and get an education. There
is also a chance to get a GED for anyone over 18 years old and have not graduated high school. Also,
if anyone wants to go to college, there are government programs that can help pay for school.
Freedom is also different in each country. In Thailand, there isn t a government with a president. They
have a king and an army that watches over the people and makes decisions for the people. In the U.S.
there is a President, Governors, Senators, and Mayors that are chosen by the people. Laws are made
by voting in the U.S., but in Thailand, they are just forced by the King and

Zoom Car Company Essay
Case Example D
The main legal issues that have come about from this case are very important for many reasons. Zoom
Car Company is being sued on part of Daniel Boone for them to pay for his medical expenses
resulting from being dragged from his car and being beaten. The reason behind this is his compass that
was installed in his car by Zoom Car Company was faulty which lead him in the wrong direction
where he got lost and ended up in a horrible situation. Daniel Boone is suing for his medical bills to be
paid by the company of the faulty feature the car offered when it was bought. Who should be
responsible for Daniel Boone s medical bills? As the plaintiff he argues that Zoom Car Company
should be responsible for his medical bills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defendant s argument is they shouldn t be responsible for Daniel Boone s incident because
Corrigan Rulers were the ones who manufactured the compass and they should be held responsible for
the cost of medical bills and for any other damages. Zoom Car Company believes it is a superseding
event, the defendant isn t liable for injuries caused by such events for which he or she is not
responsible (108). Which would mean the company can only be held responsible for the faulty
compass that was installed in the car not the actions that took place after the fact of where he ended
up. It is also possible that Daniel didn t know how to use the compass, which would result in him
being held accountable under these circumstances. Nothing is certain on who is responsible for the
compass to not work effectively. If there is sufficient proof of the compass not working when the car
was purchased it will put them at fault. But if the plaintiff, Daniel Boone, somehow broke the compass
after the purchase of the car then he could be held responsible for his actions and would therefore have
to pay for his medical bills. For a seller to be held strictly liable, the product it sells must reach the
consumer or user without substantial change in its condition (129). If the company, Corrigan Rulers,
can somehow prove that the compass was in perfect condition when delivered to Zoom Car Company
they will no longer be held responsible for the medical bills. If I was the judge on

Eliot And His Problems In Shakespeare s Hamlet And His...
Eliot and His Problems
Among the twenty essays published by T.S Eliot in The Sacred Wood: Essays on Poetry and Criticism
, one cannot help but notice the provocatively titled critique of Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Hamlet
and His Problems . In his essay, Eliot argues that Hamlet is an artistic failure (Eliot 1). Again, he
bluntly states that one is to come to the irrefragable (Eliot 2) conclusion that Shakespeare tackled a
problem which proved too much for him (Eliot 4). Upon closer examination of the play in question,
one is to quickly find that Eliot s provoking thesis has no root in logic and common sense. In fact, it is
evident the title character s delayed revenge is validly explained in the protagonist s characterisation;
pathos is achieved throughout the play and that the emotion elicited by the dramatist in the main
character was expertly illustrated in the text contrary to the author s expressed opinion.
To begin, Eliot argues that Shakespeare s Hamlet is a non complete alteration of previous revenge
plays such as The Spanish Tragedy. For instance, he states that in the Shakespearean edition, the
theme of revenge is unexplained on grounds of necessity or expediency (Eliot 2). Again, he adds that
it is overtaken by a motive which is more important. Firstly, the author s argument is incomplete as he
fails to mention and argue the other motive which overtakes that of revenge. Also, one is to come to
the logical conclusion that the delay in revenge by Hamlet is

Alfred Hitchcock Research Paper
Aliya Jones ENG205 History of Cinema
Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock was known as a true filmmaker who produced and created successful horror films.
Producing five decades of filmmaking, Hitchcock became a horror guru. From the shocking, blood
curdling film Psycho to his greatest black and white horror prequel Bates Motel, Hitchcock was able
to pave the way for other horror filmmakers. As a little girl growing up, I watch every horror film I
could think of. When you re that fragile young age you never know what, how and when your mind
will be shaped at any moment. Just like Hitchcock, I was immersed with many things different. Horror
Movies helped by at the same time hurt me. Although I was not allowed to watch most of the ... Show

His 1929 film Blackmail is said to be the first British talkie (Stiernberg, Bonnie, 2012). After gaining
experience for a few years, he then left for Hollywood where his first American film, Rebecca was
filmed. In the 1930s, he directed such classic suspenseful films such as The Man Who Knew Too
Much and The 39 Steps. He ended up winning an Academy Award for best picture for this spectacular
project. Hitchcock continues making films and received the AFI s Life Achievement Award in 1979.
His time on earth was shortened when he died in 1980. Although he is no longer here, his films left a
mark on horror filming as a whole. The funny thing about admiring Alfred Hitchcock s work is that it
has become a bit of a cliché, which is actually somewhat ironic since one of his greatest contributions
to cinema was the fact that he broke apart clichés in not only the genre he worked in most, namely
psychological thrillers, but in visual storytelling overall. For example, before the crop duster scene in
North By Northwest, a similar scene would most likely take place at night, in a claustrophobic,
darkened alley in a big city, not during a sunny day out in a cornfield in the middle of Nowhere,

  • 3. First Three Laws Of Nature By Thomas Hobbes The first three laws of nature according to Thomas Hobbes were a way to put an end to the state of war. These laws are based on the idea of a social contract between two human beings that involves mutual rights between parties. In this answer I will describe how these laws can bring about peace in society. Since all of these laws are brought together through peace, according to Hobbes the first law deals with seeking out peace where war is not an option. Hobbes believes that in order for man to preserve life he must seek out peace and if peace is achieved this will prevent us from the state of war. In today s society our goal is to advance the global peace system by supporting and collaborating with peacebuilding efforts. The second law of nature deals with the surrendering of our natural rights in order to achieve peace that we are seeking. If a person does not give up their natural right, they are considered a threat to the existence of peace among a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This law is the foundation for human justice but because of the human desire for power, there is always an incentive to break this contract despite the logic of the third law and the natural mandate to preserve our own lives (Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16). Other natural laws and eventually the concept of sovereignty must come into play in order to preserve functionality of this third law (Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16). According to Hobbes if all individuals follow these three natural laws there is a greater chance of peace in society. In a social contract between individuals, there is an agreement to give up their natural rights. Hobbes uses this theory to explain the relationship between individuals and others in society and how they can live free from constant conflict and maintain the peace in ... • 4. Importance Of Proofs Of Teaching Mathematical Proofs For many math students around the world, proofs are dreaded; they are seen as pointless memorization of obvious ideas. These are most student s beliefs because they have never truly been taught or experienced the true purposes of proofs. Zaslavsky, Nickerson, Stylianides, Kidron, and Winicki Landman (2012) write to discuss the importance of teaching mathematical proofs in school. They continue on to express reasons why students need proofs and the multiple ways in which teachers can facilitate the learning and importance of proofs to their students. Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite numerous reasons for the importance of proofs, but the most prominent reasons include strengthening student s ability to communicate mathematical knowledge, to instill problem solving skills and methods, and lastly, to fulfill human intellectual needs. Each of these reasons have been supported by research, and also come with challenges and concerns. The most basic reason Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite as to why proofs should be taught in school is because doing so can increase and strengthen student s abilities to communicate mathematical knowledge. Most students are more than capable of applying formulas and solving the problems presented to them in classes with a little practice. A majority of these students, however, have no clue as to why the methods they are using work, or if they will work with any set of numbers they are presented (Yopp, 2009). • 5. Analysis Of Little Women By Louisa May Alcott Born on this day in 1832, Louisa May Alcott led a fascinating life. Besides enchanting millions of readers with her novel Little Women, she worked as a Civil War nurse, fought against slavery, and registered women to vote. For Louisa, writing was an early passion. She had a very deep and rich imagination and her novels often became the basis of melodramas that she and her sisters would act out for their friends. Louisa preferred to play the lurid parts in these plays the villains, ghosts, bandits, and disdainful queens. Scholars have argued that Little Women affects critics emotionally because of their adolescent connection to the story, thus coloring scholarly interpretations of the work. This essay will talk about Alcott and the three critics Judith Fetterly, Ken Parille and Sarah Wordsworth who criticized the story Little Women from different perspectives. Louisa May Alcott was a prolific writer who drew inspiration for her work from her personal experiences. This novel takes a place in the civil war, when the march family is divided, the father is at the work and the only way they communicates with each other is by letters were their father instructs them to be better and to fight their inner demons. When the story begins the girls are in a state of self centered, they were complaining about being poor, every girl had her own dream, and they are all far from being poor. In movies and shows, we often see them feasting upon the living where there are protagonists or better known as the survivors, fighting for survival. Usually there are a couple different factors in this situation, one is mental health and the other is unmet psychosocial needs. The history of philosophical ethics has been broken up into five rational methods: Virtue, Traditional, Modern, and Post Modern Ethics. Within these periods, the philosophy of ethics changed along with the changes being made within society. The first rational method is Virtue Ethics. The major philosophers during this period were materialists such as Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, and Plutarch. One of the last major philosophers of Virtue Ethics was Plutarch who advocated virtue but disagreed with Epicurus because he believed there was no true pleasure. At this same time, between 400 B.C. 40 B.C. Stoic philosophers such Cicero, who combined the philosophies of Aristotle and Plato, developed his idea on ethics and how everyone has a duty and should imitate virtue for others. He said duty has two points which are to achieve the Supreme Good, and follow the rules for daily living. Cicero was a strong believer in rationality incorporated Plato s Cardinal Virtues into his three rules of conduct: master desires through reason, know true value of goals and be moderate in actions and lifestyle. Following Virtue Ethics, a major shift occurred in thinking. The philosophers of Virtue Ethics were materialists and believed we only have what we have and after death, we have nothing. Traditional Ethics shifted the focus on religion once it began to spread. Also known as Biblical Ethics, philosophers started a systematic study of Biblical themes and principles surrounding ethics and morality. It has also been governing questions and offenses related to maritime activities and other sub heads. He is the current president of The Master s College and Seminary. He also has a national syndicated radio program Grace to You. I believe the author s intention was to debunk the myth of evolution. John MacArthur addresses creation from a Biblical standpoint. The book targets a primarily a Christian audience and makes a strong case for a literal six day creation. This is not a book that fundamentally concentrates on persuading unbelieving evolutionists of creationism, yet rather it focuses on convincing Christians who trust that in some type of advancement, (for example, old earth creationism or the Gap Theory) that the primary perusing of Genesis one and two is a strict perusing. MacArthur constructs a significant part of the book with respect to the view that Evolution is itself a religion that is entirely contradicted to Christianity. Creationism and Evolution, along these lines, can never be blended. We should have faith in it is possible that either. Subsequent to giving numerous reasons why Evolutionism is contradictory to God and His outline, the book spends a section on each of the days of creation. In every part, the creator demonstrates why something besides an exacting six day creation is outlandish. In this manner, he gives important cases of the miracles and wonders of creation. • 18. Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World Lauren Estes Modern Philosophy Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while others declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The word truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the truth. The truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be true for me. Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is not? Although there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world, I tend to lead towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the skeptics arguments are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know anything with absolute certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny appearances seem to me to be ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not deny appearances, he just is aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external world. Sextus Empiricus infers, honey appears to use to have a sweetening quality. This much we can concede, because it affects us with a sensation of sweetness. Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Indeed, the largest source of drinking water in Florida is groundwater from the state s massive aquifer system; approximately ninety percent of the state s drinking water is extracted from groundwater sources (Marella, 2004). According to Marella (2004), Between 1970 and 2000, total freshwater withdrawals increased for public supply by 176 percent and for agricultural self supplied by 87 percent (p. 1). As discussed previously, a growing population correlates with an increase in the demand for groundwater resources. Groundwater is currently being pumped out of Florida s aquifers faster than the state s abundant rainfall can refill them (Barnett, 2007, p.2). The excessive pumping of groundwater can create subsurface voids because of the lowering of the water table, which can lead to the development of sinkholes due to gravity and a loss of fluid pressure support (Tihansky, 1999, p. 132). The ancient text puts forth symbols of self awareness and higher knowledge to show the different stages of enlightenment needed to see true reality. One of the men becomes free and leaves the cave to experience the outside world. At first, the man does not understand this new world because for his whole life the cave wall had been his reality. Literary Devices In The Stranger, By Albert Camus In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Camus uses a variety of literary devices in order to create a moment of inward reflection from readers, in which we reflect on just how absurd our existence is. Camus expresses his critique through one major character, Meursault, and a few minor characters as well. Camus s use of irony pushed readers to look beyond the surface, and come to the conclusion of where the irony was displayed. Camus also made use of ironic moments in order to contrast the expectations of society, to how Meursault differs from that, all to gradually expose the hypocrisy of mankind. Camus generally uses this literary device in order make us evaluate our own selves and more importantly to display the fact that we as people can be truly happy, only if we accept our fate, instead of fighting it. In a way, he s suggesting we be more like Meursault. Examples of this would be the funeral caretaker insisting that Meursault view his mother s body, and Meursault continuously refusing. Camus does this to make people think: what exactly is wrong with Meursault not wanting to see his dead mother? Through this technique camus shows societal expectations of how people are supposed to mourn lost, and certain responses to lost are deemed abnormal. Often American citizens, when income has failed, have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Body Shape Of Beauty In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The heavier a man was, the more attractive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Individual and Society in Virginia Woolf s Novel quot;mrs... According to Viktors Ivbulis (1995: 23 29) in Modernist fiction a special attention is paid to an individual who degrades because of the pressure from the society and is therefore shown as a small part of the society being unable to do miracles. Moreover, the 20th century s fight for the power makes the rights of an individual be dependent on the rights of the society. This individual is not a personality anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. It is a simple person, who is depressed by the highly technological world and the demands of the society and is therefore lonesome and isolated. An individual cannot compete successfully for his place in the society, as he does not even know his enemy. Therefore, he has to die ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... V. Ivbulis (23:1995) stresses that in Modernist fiction an individual in this technologically developed world has become trivial. The world wide market of goods, the fake blaze of the mass culture, the variety of the offers on TV and radio, and the developing power of all this over an individual has made him small. Also in Mrs Dalloway Clarissa is of less importance than the position she holds in the society. Everyone who comes to the party is interested only in the luxuriance and the possibility to be at least for some time in the higher levels of the society. For example, Ellie Henderson, who is a cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she would find something to wear on and to be among those people from the higher levels of society: It was an event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat just to see the lovely clothes. They go to this party at Mrs Dalloway s to show off, to show themselves in a possibly richer way. They do not go there to meet Mrs Dalloway. She is as if only a person to meet them at the entrance. According to Viktors Ivbulis (23:1995) in Modernist fiction due to the fact that an individual is subjected to the pressure of the society he degrades and is, therefore, shown as a very small part of the society. He cannot do heroic deeds. In Virginia Woolf s novel Mrs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. How Is Thailand Different From The Us When comparing Thailand and the United States of America, there are many differences. For example, the way each country is located on the globe. In America, when most people buy a house, they have to make payments for many years, with interest. There are also differences in getting licenses to drive, fish, or own a gun, for example. In Thailand, there is no need for any license before being able to do any of those. On the hand, in the U.S., people are required to take tests and buy licenses before they can drive, fish, or own a gun. Thailand is a poor country, so education isn t very important. Most families that do not have money are either working at the farms or working for rich people. Going to school cost money, so only those who can pay get an education. In America, anyone can go to public school and get an education. There is also a chance to get a GED for anyone over 18 years old and have not graduated high school. • 45. Zoom Car Company Essay Case Example D The main legal issues that have come about from this case are very important for many reasons. Zoom Car Company is being sued on part of Daniel Boone for them to pay for his medical expenses resulting from being dragged from his car and being beaten. The reason behind this is his compass that was installed in his car by Zoom Car Company was faulty which lead him in the wrong direction where he got lost and ended up in a horrible situation. Daniel Boone is suing for his medical bills to be paid by the company of the faulty feature the car offered when it was bought. Who should be responsible for Daniel Boone s medical bills? As the plaintiff he argues that Zoom Car Company should be responsible for his medical bills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defendant s argument is they shouldn t be responsible for Daniel Boone s incident because Corrigan Rulers were the ones who manufactured the compass and they should be held responsible for the cost of medical bills and for any other damages. Zoom Car Company believes it is a superseding event, the defendant isn t liable for injuries caused by such events for which he or she is not responsible (108). Which would mean the company can only be held responsible for the faulty compass that was installed in the car not the actions that took place after the fact of where he ended up. It is also possible that Daniel didn t know how to use the compass, which would result in him being held accountable under these circumstances. Nothing is certain on who is responsible for the compass to not work effectively. If there is sufficient proof of the compass not working when the car was purchased it will put them at fault. But if the plaintiff, Daniel Boone, somehow broke the compass after the purchase of the car then he could be held responsible for his actions and would therefore have to pay for his medical bills. For a seller to be held strictly liable, the product it sells must reach the consumer or user without substantial change in its condition (129). If the company, Corrigan Rulers, can somehow prove that the compass was in perfect condition when delivered to Zoom Car Company they will no longer be held responsible for the medical bills. • 46. Eliot And His Problems In Shakespeare s Hamlet And His... Eliot and His Problems Among the twenty essays published by T.S Eliot in The Sacred Wood: Essays on Poetry and Criticism , one cannot help but notice the provocatively titled critique of Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Hamlet and His Problems . In his essay, Eliot argues that Hamlet is an artistic failure (Eliot 1). Again, he bluntly states that one is to come to the irrefragable (Eliot 2) conclusion that Shakespeare tackled a problem which proved too much for him (Eliot 4). Upon closer examination of the play in question, one is to quickly find that Eliot s provoking thesis has no root in logic and common sense. In fact, it is evident the title character s delayed revenge is validly explained in the protagonist s characterisation; pathos is achieved throughout the play and that the emotion elicited by the dramatist in the main character was expertly illustrated in the text contrary to the author s expressed opinion. To begin, Eliot argues that Shakespeare s Hamlet is a non complete alteration of previous revenge plays such as The Spanish Tragedy. For instance, he states that in the Shakespearean edition, the theme of revenge is unexplained on grounds of necessity or expediency (Eliot 2). Again, he adds that it is overtaken by a motive which is more important. Firstly, the author s argument is incomplete as he fails to mention and argue the other motive which overtakes that of revenge. Also, one is to come to the logical conclusion that the delay in revenge by Hamlet is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Alfred Hitchcock Research Paper Aliya Jones ENG205 History of Cinema Alfred Hitchcock Alfred Hitchcock was known as a true filmmaker who produced and created successful horror films. Producing five decades of filmmaking, Hitchcock became a horror guru. From the shocking, blood curdling film Psycho to his greatest black and white horror prequel Bates Motel, Hitchcock was able to pave the way for other horror filmmakers. As a little girl growing up, I watch every horror film I could think of. When you re that fragile young age you never know what, how and when your mind will be shaped at any moment. Just like Hitchcock, I was immersed with many things different. Horror Movies helped by at the same time hurt me. Although I was not allowed to watch most of the ... After gaining experience for a few years, he then left for Hollywood where his first American film, Rebecca was filmed. In the 1930s, he directed such classic suspenseful films such as The Man Who Knew Too Much and The 39 Steps. He ended up winning an Academy Award for best picture for this spectacular project. Hitchcock continues making films and received the AFI s Life Achievement Award in 1979. His time on earth was shortened when he died in 1980. Although he is no longer here, his films left a mark on horror filming as a whole. The funny thing about admiring Alfred Hitchcock s work is that it has become a bit of a cliché, which is actually somewhat ironic since one of his greatest contributions to cinema was the fact that he broke apart clichés in not only the genre he worked in most, namely psychological thrillers, but in visual storytelling overall. For example, before the crop duster scene in North By Northwest, a similar scene would most likely take place at night, in a claustrophobic, darkened alley in a big city, not during a sunny day out in a cornfield in the middle of Nowhere, ...
