Theory of Operant Conditioning
Theory of Operant Conditioning
Instrumental conditioning, otherwise known as operant conditioning is a theory that B.F Skinner came
up with and is defined as a learning process by which the consequence of an operant response affects
the likelihood of the response recurring in the future. Basically, operant conditioning is a stimulus
response prototype that when reinforced, conditions individuals or organisms response to a desired
behavior (Huitt, W., Hummel, J., 1997) Our behaviors are shaped to be desirable or undesirable
through reinforcements, punishment and extermination. Overall, operant conditioning is seen to be
voluntary reaction that precedes the stimulus and the reinforcement. Classical conditioning is one of
the techniques used in behavioral training. The process of classical conditioning works with the
introduction of neutral stimuli before the original stimulus and the same reaction is elicited from the
organism even without the presence of the original stimulus. The Pavlov dog salivated with every
sight of food as the original stimulus for the salivation. When a neutral stimulus was introduced like a
bell that was rang each time before it was fed, the dog started salivating at the ringing of the bell even
before the food was availed.
Positive and negative reinforcement
Introduction of the negative reinforcement to construe behavior entails removal of an unfavorable
events or outcomes after the display of a behavior. A response is strengthened by the

Hiroshima Essay examples
Hiroshima The stories and events that unfold in John Hersey s, Hiroshima, have certainly been eye
openers for me. As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the atomic bomb
and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal level as these stories.
Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb
works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s gruesome effects on human beings. As
I mentioned before, this book was quite an eye opener for me because it has taught me just how
deadly nuclear weapons can be not only on material properties, but on human beings, and why nuclear
weapons must never again be used is such a way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first story of the book we hear is that of the Reverend Tanimoto. He is dropping off some goods at
a friend s house for safekeeping some 3,500 yards, or two miles, away from the center of the
explosion and that house crumbles to the ground from the force of the blast. That seems so amazing to
me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away. It may be
difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something two miles away,
but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would be everything within
a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level everything within 35
football fields!
The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was
according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the blast
was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger than a
person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine having
over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost unbelievable.
The heat given off by the blast is just as astonishing a number as the pressure. There was evidence that
clay tiles, whose melting point is thirteen times hotter than that of the boiling point of water, had

Essay On The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus
To begin, the Tragical History of Doctor Faustus was a play written in sixteenth century by
Christopher Marlowe. In the play, the main character, Doctor Faustus, is bored because he feels that he
has learned all the knowledge that is acceded to in the state that he is in, therefore, he has some other
scholars who know about dark magic to teach him their ways. While he is learning dark magic Doctor,
Faustus summons a demon named Mephistopheles, who helps Faustus sell his soul to the devil.
Throughout the play, Faustus begins to have doubts and starts to repent, however, the only answer that
he receives is from Mephistopheles and Lucifer teach his about the Seven Deadly Sins leaving he is
impressed and stopping his doubts. With his newly found power, Faustus and Mephistopheles travel
through Europe playing trick on people such as the Pope and Emperor of German yet his time soon
runs out. An old man urges Faustus to repent, but Faustus drives him away. On his final night, Faustus
is overcome by fear and remorse, but it is too late because at midnight devils appear and carry his soul
off to hell. God is absent throughout the play to reflect Faustus beliefs on God, as well as, Marlowe s
own religious beliefs.
In addition, the absence of God reflect the beliefs of Faustus on God. Faustus does not believe in God.
Faustus has no desire to serve God, but he does have a desire to please himself by using his power to
discover information about the world that he is unaware of. God is

Fight Club Identity
In the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahnuik, the narrator and a character introduced called Tyler
Durden are the same person. The narrator has an identity crisis. Our narrator remains anonymous and
never tells us his real name. In the novel he attends many support groups, and gives fake names. The
narrator is constantly battling with Tyler as Tyler comes and goes whenever he likes. The narrator
works in an office job during the day and his opposite personality Tyler works at night. The narrator
struggles to differ dream from reality. The narrator says, It s not clear if reality slipped into my dream
or if my dream is slopping into reality. (18.2) The narrator says that Tyler had been around long before
they had met. Tyler is a physical representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator is going to have to kill Tyler to never deal with him again. And also thinking about it, our
narrator is also obsessed with death. The narrator tends t surround himself around death a lot. He goes
to support groups that are filled with people loving in their last days. And there are also references in
the novel when he is curious to know what death would be like. When fight club was in the first days
of beginning, the narrator let Taylor take charge of explaining the rules and taking the lead of the
fights. The narrator only wants to destroy things. An example of this is when the narrator fights the
boy with the angel face at the fight club and nearly kills him. In the film, the narrator said he felt like
destroying something beautiful. Eventually the Tyler side of the narrator begins to take bigger control
and desire o destruction grows. This is when project mayhem is taken into full effect, and the goal is t
destroy civilization and create a new civilization. This idea scres the narrator, so he goes to try to stop
project mayhem. Our narrator thinks about his work and applies his theories to the project and fight
club, he really needs to end these things from moving forward. The narrator successfully rids himself
of Tyler, his opposite personality, after shooting himself in the mouth. The narrator had an identity

Black Lives Matter Controversy
In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to realize
the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming legal in 2015
and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have caused a form of
division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed some light on the
inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The BLM
website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+ organizations that have come together
with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and agenda. Although many people view them as
a great step toward furthering equality amongst all people, there is a select group of people who
disagree. The Black Lives matter website also states that their common vision is to continue to move
towards a world in which the full humanity and dignity of all people is recognized. While doing this,
BLM also intends to include other groups of people who experience oppression. Such as the LBGTQ
community, women, Muslims, people who were previously or currently undocumented and much
more. One of the major arguments of the Black Lives Matter movement is to end the war on black
people. There have been many situations in the last two years that have been brought to light through
both social media and news broadcasting as well. The events that are causing a wide controversy

Rebecca Nurse Quotes
Let you fear nothing! Another judgement waits us all! This profound exclamation is made by the
immensely wise and reputable Rebecca Nurse. Rebecca is a well known elderly woman in Salem,
Massachusetts. Rebecca Nurse and I closely resemble one another in that we are both exceptionally
nurturing with children, devout in our beliefs, and humble towards our accomplishments. Firstly,
Rebecca Nurse and I are similar because of our nurturing capabilities towards infants and children. In
the play The Crucible, it is revealed that Rebecca is the mother of eleven children who have blessed
her with 26 grandchildren. The fact that Rebecca conceived and gave birth to eleven healthy babies
reveals that she is well suited for motherhood. The fact that she raised all of these children up to be
adults, and eventually parents, proves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Rebecca is introduced in The Crucible, it is emphasized that she is deeply rooted in her Puritan
beliefs. She does not just attend church services because she knows that as a Puritan, it is the right
thing to do. Rebecca regularly attends church and reads her Bible for leisure to deepen her relationship
and understanding of God. Similarly, I also value any time alone to talk to God, in addition to weekly
church services and youth group. Throughout Salem, Rebecca s reputation is that she is a very
religious woman. Similarly, I am seen as a very religious girl at Hempfield. Coming from a Catholic
school, I entered Hempfield with the label of being a Catholic school girl . Like Rebecca, I enjoy
being known for living for Christ. Rebecca goes over and above for her religion by taking her
relationship with God outside of the church. Equivalently, I am heavily involved in other faith based

The Golden State
California, nicknamed the Golden State, has attracted many an immigrant through the years. From the
migrations of peoples thousands of years ago that led to the establishment of the many Native
American tribes that populated the land, to the Spanish and Americans in later centuries, one wonders
what attracted all to the farthest frontier, the unsettled west coast. That is until you delve deeper into
what the land had to offer as an economic source. The year 1769 saw Gaspar de Portola and Father
Saint Junípero Serra leading the first permanent European settlers to California. Before the end of the
century, missions were established along the coast and towns were established, especially Los Angeles
in 1781. The establishment of missions and towns began economic growth based on agricultural
production and Native American labor that would soon lead to cities, ranches and local owners under
Mexican occupation taking the same advantage to produce locally until the United States brought a
wave of new settlement and industrial ideas that would sweep local trade and production into a new
era of transcontinental economic growth, transportation and financial gains.
In 1542, Juan Cabrillo made his way up what the coast of what the Spanish called Alta California from
the newly conquered Spanish province of Mexico in search of gold, but he only found Native
Americans living on land that consisted of thousands of square miles of fertile valleys, high
mountains, freshwater lakes, and

Examples Of Memory In Gurdjieff
Further, he warns that it is a long and arduous struggle. There is no short cut as regards efforts or as
regards shortening of time. One has to go through the grind, through the disciple, through the work .
Self remembering of Gurdjieff
As already mentioned, Self remembering of Gurdjieff is what we have been talking about in the thesis
as Awareness. According to him, Self remembering (or self observation), is an artificial division of
attention within oneself. A part of consciousness is weaned back, which is nothing but adopting the
witnessing aspect. One part of our consciousness is engaged in the activity, physical or mental, while
another part is watching this part thus functioning. Whenever our consciousness identifies itself ...

Gurdjieff brings about beautifully the distinction between Knowledge and Being. While we are
developing on the knowledge front, we are acutely lagging behind on the Being front. Progress along
the line of being entailed our struggling with our weaknesses the chief weakness being the weakness
of waking sleep .
Man s development should move equally parallel along the lines of knowledge and Being.
Unfortunately, it is knowledge which is overemphasized at the cost of being (his essence; all that a
man stood for). Man s knowledge depended upon his being. Man s being is different from that of the
stone, plant and animal. But even among human beings, there are great distances between beings of
human beings, one from the other.
Knowledge and Understanding:
Gurdjieff differentiated between knowledge and understanding in that knowledge was fragmentary,
while understanding was unifying. Understanding was the outcome of a certain relationship between
knowledge and being. Understanding happens when one realizes the relationship between knowledge
and being. That is to say with understanding man gravitates towards his Being. Understanding thus is

Examples Of Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs
Maslow s Hierarchy of needs places the need to belong on the third tier; being a desire that must be
met before completing the need of self actualization. Psychologist Abraham Maslow believed that it is
necessary that someone is accepted by others and if that requirement is not met that person can not
move on to be self fulfilled. Most individuals may meet their need of acceptance by conforming and
dismissing characteristics that make them who they are. To fit in some people go along with things
that they normally wouldn t: some people follow trends, fads, and popular opinions that they do not
even cherish. This is when the need for acceptance becomes out of control and even though they are
accepted by many those who change themselves to fit in may not meet the need of self actualization
because they do not know who they really are. There s this old saying that asks, If everyone jumps off
of a cliff, would you also . This meant that even though everyone is doing something doesn t mean its
right and that just because everyone is doing something doesn t mean it s right for you. There are many
examples of people who resisted their need to be accepted and loved to stand for what they believe in;
some examples being Ruby Bridges, Equality 7 2521, and Jesus Christ. Don t follow the path. Go
where there is no path and start a trail (Ruby Bridges). Ruby Bridges is a civil rights activist who is

Andrew Carnegie Rhetoric
Andrew Carnegie rose from a bobbin boy in a textile factory to become one of the richest men in
America. In the late 19th century, Andrew Carnegie was known as one of the wealthiest Scottish
American industrialist who basically ran the American steel industry in the late 19th century. Some
people believe that Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist automatically means he s a Captain of
Industry. However Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron, and was wealthy for that exact reason.
In such manner, Andrew Carnegie treated his workers as such a robber baron would, which is poorly
and in dangerous conditions. Furthermore, Andrew Carnegie was unsympathetic for his workers
health seeing as he had put them in unhealthy and dangerous conditions. ... Show more content on

However, this is inaccurate because he had treated his workers like they were nothing, even putting
them into the situation of dangerous conditions. There are many more characteristics to a Captain of
Industry but robbing companies, and putting your workers in dangerous conditions is not one of them.
Yes, the men call this the deathtrap he repeated my guide; ... they wipe a man out here every little
while.... Sometimes a chain breaks, and a ladle tip over; and the iron explodes like that.... Sometimes
the slag falls on the workmen from the roadway up there (Page 357). He fools other people with his
donations making it seem like he is captain of industry when in reality he also put people in dangerous
conditions and pay them not enough for it. He doesn t help his workers enough with the wages and
dangerous conditions. His workers not being the only evidence of him not being a captain of industry.
A man watches out, why, all right! But you take it after they ve been on duty for twelve hours without
sleep, and running like hell, everybody tired and logy and it s a different story (Page 357). Andrew
Carnegie was someone who put his workers in the kind of danger that any day one of the workers can
get trampled or killed by one of the machines especially since they are tired from working long hours.
Andrew Carnegie had no kind heart, nor cared for his workers instead he was inconsiderate and
selfish, he was only for himself and money, which do not display a Captain of Industry nor a

Musicology degree, and was admitted into the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, where he wrote small
musicals for them but would also sneak away to the piano room and compose songs that he kept to

Diversity Within The Taxonomic Group Of Lagormorpha
Diversity within and between species depends on evolution and evolutionary processes. This essay
seeks to analyze the origins and significance of diversity within the taxonomic group of Lagormorpha,
both within species and between species.
Origin of diversity within species
Inbreeding depression occurs when species inbreed to a point where the overall fitness of the species
decreases significantly. Slate and Pemberton studied how reduced heterozygosity affected the sperm
and gonads of wild rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) across the United Kingdom; they considered 112
individuals as well as populations (2006). The study found an important relationship: with a reduced
heterozygosity, the production of normal sperm was also reduced (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). It is
important to note; the relationship s effect was found amongst individuals not entire populations (Slate
and Pemberton, 2006). To compile this data, the scientists measured degrees of inbreeding with a
molecular measure, using 29 microsatellite loci for each individual male rabbit (Slate and Pemberton,
2006). This loci region is known to have a relationship with the genes coding for inbreeding
depression, although why is not completely understood (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). Figure 2

Analysis Of The Book Carrol
Carrol, is the casserole done yet? I m starving. I haven t eaten since 5:30. It s 5:45 now, said Carrol.
She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky.
Exactly, said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, I still haven t filled up my second stomach yet,
earning a grin from gray haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
Carrol smiled and replied, We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I m so excited. We haven t seen her in so
long.
She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and slowly
made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the small chatter of
Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard Ben invite her into
the kitchen in his deep gruff voice.
There stood rosy cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and
trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses. He
carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud green coat.
Mom, it s so great to see you! exclaimed Alice.
Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this? Carrol said, looking back at the boy.
Oh, said Alice in her cheerful voice, This is Ethan.
He held out a gloved hand, and introduced himself, Pleasure to meet you, he said through a congested,
nasally voice. Carrol shook his hand as Ethan sniffed the kitchen air. What is that I smell? he said.

Environmental Elements
Several environmental elements may affect Burt s Bees. These include legal, demographic, economic
and cultural social.
Legal: Aside from being a natural product, Burt s Bees is also valued for being a cruelty free company.
They do not conduct product or ingredient tests on animals (Burt s Bees, 2013). Currently, China
requires animal testing for cosmetic products. As such, Burt s Bees cannot sell in the Chinese market,
unless they changed their philosophy and tested their products on animals. While changing their
philosophy might allow them to enter the Chinese market, there is likely to be backlash from their
consumers who value their cruelty free philosophy. China is currently reconsidering their animal
testing requirements for non specialized cosmetics manufactured in China starting in June 2014. This
politic/legal shift could create new business opportunities for cruelty free companies to begin
manufacturing and selling their cosmetics in China (a $22B cosmetic market (Reuters, 2013).
Demographic: Burt s Bees philosophy is to attract an educated youthful market and establish brand
loyalty at a young age. Increased or decreases in population size, age mix, and education levels could
increase or decrease Burt s Bees target demographic.
Economic: An economic downturn could affect the sales of Burt s Bees products. While a large

Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism
Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the
world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with
such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators
are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you
feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length
commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. Motivation of volunteer
vacationers is rarely to accumulate career building credentials or academic credits and kudos. In fact,
many voluntourists deliberately select a project about which they are unapologetically without skill so
they can learn something new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which they sign up. If the experience is positive, they also tend to donate more to the project once they

One mascot is a real horse named Thunder. (Explained by Thunder {mascot}) He is one of the three
purebred Arabians who have served as the Denver Broncos mascot since 1993. Thunder has appeared
in two Super Bowls and Thunder III appeared in two different Super Bowls. The Thunders were all
owned by Sharon Magness Blake. All three horses were gray, but as they grew older, their hair turned
more white. Thunders jobs are to lead the team out with Miles, the person in the horse suit, and every
time the Broncos score a field goal or touchdown, he trouts the length of the field. In 2004 Thunder Sr.

Coal Seam Gas
Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground.
This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams
(Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams,
bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to
be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and
production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of Queensland gas use. Almost every
farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG extraction using
underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well
understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks
groundwater contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to
the surface as well, in a quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are
several types of water contamination that are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals
through the fracking processes, which will go underground and can travel to nearby water systems that
are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). Another is through chemicals that naturally exist in
coal seams being taken out of the coal seams and exposed to other the various water systems nearby.

Betrayal in The Chrysanthemums Essay
Betrayal in The Chrysanthemums
In John Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums, there is a strong underlining of betrayal. We
can see betrayal in three forms throughout the story. First we see Elisa being betrayed by the salesman
who plays on her emotions by giving her a sales pitch only to get some work out of her. Then, in result
to confiding in the salesman Elisa betrays her husband by opening herself up, and confiding to a
complete stranger things which she couldn t reveal to her own husband. Finally, we see Elisa
betraying herself by not allowing herself to fully express her true emotions, and by being too afraid to
step out of societies norms for woman during this time.

it must be nice, to sleep in the wagon rain or shine, wishing that it would be acceptable for a woman to
do such things (208). After emotionally revealing herself to this man, giving him some work, and
giving him some potted chrysanthemums to give to the lady with the garden he was on his way.
It wasn t until later that night when Elisa was heading to town with her husband, for dinner, that she
realized she had been betrayed by the salesman. As they were driving into town Elisa sees her prized
chrysanthemums thrown out on the side of the road. She feels betrayed knowing that she not only got
conned into giving some of her precious chrysanthemums away just so this man could get some work

For many, the quaint town of Point Clear, Alabama represents the Old South rooted in tradition,
charm, and grace. Halfway down the bay and nearly hidden among oaks adorned with Spanish moss,
Point Clear was founded in the early 1800s. Today, the city continues to honor its role in the Civil
War, perpetuates the memories of its residents, and evolves as a greater and better place. Following the

Deaf in America

: Voices From A Culture

I notice the purpose of this book was to wrote
about Deaf people in a new and different way. The book main focus is that Deafpeople have a
condition that they can t hear. The culture of Deaf people is what both authors want to begin yo betray.
What I found interesting while reading is that the majority of indidivauls within the community of
Deaf people do not join it at birth. While reading these chapters I ve seen both auhtors try to present
the culture from the inside to discover how Deaf people describe themselves and how they think about
their lives.
In chapter 1, two Deaf sisters Helen and Vicki were interviwed by Carol. Their interview stood out to
be the most in the chapter because it showed children spend their time learning what things are
supposed to mean. As Carol interviewed the two Deaf sisters and they both argued about Michael
being deaf or hearing it made me question why they both had a different answer if their both deaf.
Also when Vicki mentioned Michael being Deaf and hearing I noticed you can;t be Deaf and hearing.
I also noticed that children are often wrong for the most intertesting reasons and right for reasons we
never expect. This was interesting because when Vicki reaches her older sister age she will be better

Moho Model Of MOHO
Introduction The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) is a breakdown of how a person engages in
their daily activities from their disability or illness. It gives an occupational therapist a guide to
understand and specify the client s inadequacy of engagement. The clients thinking, feeling, and doing
are central to therapy and the model takes into account both mind and body. In MOHO the
environment can demand and offer opportunities for occupational performance (Ramafikeng, 2009).
This model helps the therapist to find reasoning through their client`s behaviors and be able to
promote health and recovery in their daily occupations. By looking into the client`s volition,
habituation, and performance capacity this specifies the therapist of their client`s abilities and
incapability s they have while engaging in an occupation. Then analyzing what environmental
contexts ables or disables the client`s behavior.
Person Environment Occupation
Volition is how a person is influenced and how they make their own choices while engaging in an
occupation. This guides a person to know what occupations they want to participate in. In MOHO
volition is broken down into three parts: interests, personal causation, and values. In the case of Sam
his volition is to be a better student to make his parents proud despite, the occupation (formal
education) he is having difficulty with. He finds interest in playing video games, games on the
computer, and one day being able to design video games. Sam

The Catalyst slowly loses power over The Two Face, making the archetype appealing to audiences and

punishment is from sharing her depression and the player wanting to show affection towards Sayori.

really effective especially in catching the readers because the one who wrote it is also the one who

beyond ourselves. A memoir invites us to step into a life and an experience that are not ours. Even if

to claim. And because we cannot claim that experience as our own, it exposes us to a different and

Concepts Found in Jainism Essay
Concepts found in Jainism have no real origin, but have been attributed with its closest founder
Nataputta Vardamana, later to be known by his followers as Mahavira, is credited with taking ideas
from Hinduism separating into this new religion. Jainism emphasizes the Hindu belief of: ahimsa (non
injury to life) and moksha (release from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth through
asceticism (Lewis, 2009, pp. 123 124). These beliefs are incorporated into their lives and have
profound effects in the public lives of Jains. The belief system of Jainism rejected the caste system and
knowledge of the Vedas which was a primary belief of Hinduism. The teachings of Jainism do not

Generally, all Jains seek to follow the first three vows as much as possible; those who enter the
monastic order keep all five (Lewis, 2009, p. 126). When these pillars are applied it opens the door for
the release from the cycle of birth, life, and death, which is the goal of Jainism. Without keeping all
five of these pillars it is believed that this cycle cannot be broken.
Daily Routine of a Jain Monk Jain Monks start their day homeless, naked, and without owning any
possessions. The Jain sect called the Svetambara (literally, the white clad ) does not observe nudity in
their daily worship and wear white robes; the second sect, called the Digambara (literally, the sky clad
) which observe total nudity in the devotion to the religion (Lewis, 2009, pp. 126 127). Then, the
monk finds an open patch of earth without any insects, and performs a form of personal hygiene,
which consists of washing his head and feet, while taking a complete bath is not permissible. After
this, the monk returns to the monastic chamber where he studies the sacred texts of Jainism. He sits in
meditation to identify his faults such as negligence in behavior towards living creatures (Jain
Ascetism, para. 4).
Then he proceeds to the nearby temple to pay devotions to the jina (one who has conquered the
worldly passions by one s own strenuous efforts) (Sangave, 2006). After completing these devotions
he returns to shravakas (a local Jain family) where he eats. During this time there

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film,...
The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark
film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the
film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego,
Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect
with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002
film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the
film. Through enrapturing cinematographic techniques, dynamic secondary characters, and a reflective

Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo
much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character.
Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will
either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary
characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and
mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person
Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his
initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their
present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into
mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more
bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to
prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The
gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of
bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. Perhaps their trust
and loyalty may be most evident when,

Narrative Structure Of Unforgiven
Almost all movies have characteristics that categorize them in two or more genres. A great example of
this being Unforgiven. The film s dark and cynical characters occasionally resemble that of a film noir
while its overall narrative structure depicts itself as a classical western style film. While there is an
argument to call Unforgiven a film noir, it is hard to deny the idea that the film is mainly a film of the
western genre. The basis of this idea, mostly relies on the portrayal of the lead protagonist, and the end
of the film. While it would be easy to use setting, lighting, camera angles, etc to manifest the idea, it
would not do it justice. By using these narrative tropes, it becomes coherent that Unforgiven is just
another well made film that uses the structure of a western to construct its plot.
Clint Eastwood s character, William, is a perfect example of the western classic hero. For example, the
character is unknown to both the viewer and to the society in the film. In The Structure of The Western
Film, the author describes the second similarity found in a western film as The hero is a stranger to
this society (41). One of the first scenes in Unforgiven shows William living in a small home
accompanied by his kids far away from the rest of civilization. His dirtied appearance gives the
audience the interpretation he is just an ordinary farmer trying to make a living and support his family.
However, he has an unknown past that is not fully discussed till much

Negative Effects Of Social Media
Everyone knows that teens love going on social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter,
or Instagram, but what some don t know is that these sites can actually cause harm to them. Social
media has been around since 1997, about 20 years. Social media is intended to help people stay caught
up with their friends, and family, and also with what s going on in the world today. Social media,
however, is causing negative effects on today s teens, such as, causing anxiety and depression,
lowering self esteem, and also affecting their brain development. Some people argue that social media
academically benefits teens. The article Are Social Networking sites good for our society explains
how teens can academically benefit from social media. The article says, After George Middle School
in Portland, OR introduced a social media program to engage students, grades went up by 50%,
chronic absenteeism went down by 33%, and 20% of students school wide voluntarily completed extra
credit assignments ( Are Social...). It is true that teens who use academic social networking can benefit
from social media, if they use academic social networking sites. Most teens do not academically
benefit from social media because they do not use it for academic purposes. Statista shows the top
social networking sites for teens. According to statista, the top three teen social networking sites are
snapchat, 79%, Facebook, 76%, and Instagram, 73%. Although social networking sites can benefit
teens academically, most teens do not use these sites. Academic social networking is not on any list of
popular social media sites, in fact it is not even in the top 20. Teens will not benefit academically from
social media sites such as snapchat, instagram, and facebook. So when teens don t actually use
academic social media sites, they do not benefit academically from social media. As a result, most
teens do not academically benefit from social media. Extensive use of social media in teens may lead
to anxiety and depression. Nick Zagorski from the American Psychiatric Association did a study on
the risks of using social media. The analysis showed that people who reported using the most
platforms had more than three times the risk of

Ancestral Novo National Park Essay
Mesa Verde National Park Located in the southwestern part of Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park
was the home of Ancestral Puebloans from AD 600 to 1300. Located within the park are thousands of
archaeological sites and hundreds of cliff dwellings. Whether you have half of a day or a week at the
park, there are many opportunities to see not only the cliff homes that were built so long ago, but also
to enjoying some truly amazing geographically features in and around the park. When the Ancestral
Pueblo first inhabited this area, they lived on the mesa tops, close to their farmlands, but during the
1190s, they began living in pueblos they built beneath the overhanging cliffs (Cliff Dwelling).
Numerous cliff dwellings have their own names and can be visited while at the park, along with
hiking, and sites on the top of the mesas. The geology of the Mesa Verde is what made it possible for
the Ancestral Pueblo to build their magnificent cliff dwellings in the first place. While this area has
been named Mesa Verde, the correct term for the mesas is cuesta. A cuesta gently dips in one direction

one of the best preserved areas at the park. This tour is also one of the more adventurous tours of cliff
houses in the park. It has a tunnel to pass through and a large ladder to ascend. This dwelling area

Essay about Divine Wind
The Divine Wind describes an Australia that is tarnished by racism, hatred and distrust, and yet the
novel ends on an optimistic note. Do you agree?
The novel is set during a World War. The tension and separation of races during a war seemed evident
in Australia. As a multicultural country including Japanese and Aborigine population, conflicting
attitudes towards these races had to be imminent. I entirely agree with the above statement due to the
unequal treatment of the aborigines, tension between the Japanese population and characters such as
Hart showing lack of trust over his lover Mitsy
With a war against the Japanese was the trigger for racism in Australia. All throughout the novel
elements of separation are presented. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Killian is talking about purity at the dinner, he declares that black workers will do all the work while
we (whites) sit inside. Aborigines do not even get equal opportunity, an example is when Derby s
interview with the officer is forged and consequently Carl Venning simply lets Derby to fight his case
without any support. Aborigines have been replaced with stereotypes and generalisations from the
Broome community especially all aborigines being alcoholics and inferior. Racism has the
significance in the future of Broome in that it will become extremely hard to reverse.
Hart s lack of trust for characters in the novel such as Mitsy and Jamie are just some signs of Disher
showing an Australia that is tarnished from distrust. Mitsy and Hart are close friends and at one time
lovers. Nevertheless, Hart still has thoughts about Mitsy secretly seeing Jamie. Hart asks Jamie, What
s going on between you and Mitsy. Some might argue that Hart is only caring about his love but when
Hart secretly follows Mitsy around town the reader recognises Hart s personality of distrust. Another
aspect of distrust is from the white community concerning over aborigines of Broome quot;Your Abo

and unpleasant to other races, they fear the aborigines will help the Japanese in their desire to takeover
Broome.
Although the novel ends on an optimistic note, the future for Broome doesn t

A Nation Of Laws For America
July 4, 1776; Independence day, the day America became its own independent nation from the rule of
King George III of Great Britain. With the new country, the Founding Fathers believed it to be best to
have law governing the nation instead of man governing the nation. The Founding Fathers wanted a
nation of laws due to their experiences with King George III and his unfair rulings. With this, though
some people would disagree, it would create what the United States of America is today; a nation of
law, protecting the people s civil freedoms. What exactly led the Founding Fathers to their idea of a
nation of laws for America? In 1765, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was
an act that was implemented in the American colonies that required most printed material to be taxed.
The American colonies believed this to be unfair because they did not have a say in the taxation. After
months of protesting, the act was vetoed, but a new act was implemented into the colonies in 1773.
This act, the Tea Act, forced the colonists to purchase tea from one and only one company. These were
the sparks that would soon start a revolution. This is the result of being ruled by man. Because of this,
because the Founding Fathers did not want a repeat of what happened with Great Britain, because the
Founding Fathers knew that there would be corruption if a nation is ruled by man, they chose America
to be a nation to be ruled by law; a nation of laws. Being a nation of laws has

The Importance Of Chons
In Egyptian mythology, Chons (alternately Khensu, Khons, Khonsu or Khonshu) is an ancient lunar
deity, from before formal structure was given to a pantheon. His name reflects the fact that the Moon
(referred to as Iah in Egyptian) travels across the night sky, for it means The Wanderer, and also had
the titles Embracer, Pathfinder, and Defender, as he was thought to watch over night travelers. As the
god of light in the night, Chons was invoked to protect against wild animals, increase male virility,
and to aid with healing. It was said that when Chons caused the crescent moon to shine, women
conceived, cattle became fertile, and all nostrils and every throat was filled with fresh air.
Chons can also be understood to mean king s placenta, and consequently in early times, he was
considered to slay the king s (i.e. the pharaoh s) enemies, and extract their innards for the king s use,
metaphorically creating something resembling a placenta for the king. This bloodthirsty aspect leads
him to be referred to, in such as the Pyramid texts, as the (one who) lives on hearts. He also became
associated with more literal placentas, becoming seen as a deification of the royal placenta, and so a
god involved with childbirth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Health Risks of Tobacco Use Today Essay
Tobacco Use
Tobacco is a tall plant with wide leaves. The leaves are dried out and grinded up into little shreds and
rolled up in paper making cigarettes. However, while cigarette companies are creating their product,
they add many harmful chemicals, which are generally called tar, and toxic gases are added as well.
Cigarettes are highly addictive because of a natural chemical in tobacco called nicotine. Though
tobacco is harmful, you have to be 18 years old to purchase them from a store. In the past 10 years,
there has been more tobacco laws created. Now, nobody can smoke inside any business, there s a no

In Florida, a study by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Florida
found that the statewide smokefree law, which took effect July 1, 2003, has not hurt sales or
employment in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industries. (Chastain)
More and more health risks caused by tobacco are being discovered every day. Some risks are that you
can get blood clots and aneurysms in the brain, blood clots in the legs, coronary artery disease, high
blood pressure, poor blood supply to the legs, decreased ability to taste and smell, harm to sperm, loss
of sight due to an increased risk of macular degeneration, tooth and gum diseases, wrinkling of the
skin, and many more. (Zieve)
A lot of people stop smoking, but go to the most popular alternative; smokeless tobacco. The people
who switch from cigarettes to smokeless tobacco actually have more risks than just continuing to
smoke. They have increased risk of mouth cancer, gum problems, tooth wear, cavities, and worsening
high blood pressure. Individuals who smoke, assume smokeless tobacco is safer than cigarettes due to
the fact nothing is being inhaled through their lungs, however smokeless tobacco, often known as dip,
has fiberglass in the tiny pieces. While smoking, you re damaging your lungs, while dipping, you re
damaging your mouth. Almost every school system in the United States do not allow tobacco products

The waste to energy skill is explored to development the possible materials in waste which are
biomass, plastic and rubber tire to be oil. The bulk of waste tyres are disposed in landfills, ensuing in a
sort of troubles such as taking up huge quantity of more and more precious landfill space and
unintentional fires resulting in highly toxic emissions such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide
(SO2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO) and hazardous polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs) [2 4]. A variety of strategies have been planned as choices to waste tyre
managing, all planning at tyre reprocess. Waste tyres can regrettably not be recycled in traditional
ways such as glass, metal or plastic by thaw out to attain raw material for new products. This is as a
consequence of the compound nature of tyres, which consist of steel, rubber, carbon black, ash, fillers,
etc. [5]. One more snag is that the polymers in the tyres are cross linked, and these bonds cannot be
chemically broken down simply [6]. Pyrolysis is distinct as the method by which materials are
thermally degraded by subjection to high temperature in the lack of oxygen [7]. The pyrolysis process
is effectual in the recycling of waste materials, counting waste tyres, and thus contributes to decrease
the ecological impact of waste tyres [8]. The pyrolysis process yields three main products i.e., a gas,
liquid and solid [9]. The

  • 2. Theory of Operant Conditioning Theory of Operant Conditioning Instrumental conditioning, otherwise known as operant conditioning is a theory that B.F Skinner came up with and is defined as a learning process by which the consequence of an operant response affects the likelihood of the response recurring in the future. Basically, operant conditioning is a stimulus response prototype that when reinforced, conditions individuals or organisms response to a desired behavior (Huitt, W., Hummel, J., 1997) Our behaviors are shaped to be desirable or undesirable through reinforcements, punishment and extermination. Overall, operant conditioning is seen to be voluntary reaction that precedes the stimulus and the reinforcement. Classical conditioning is one of the techniques used in behavioral training. The process of classical conditioning works with the introduction of neutral stimuli before the original stimulus and the same reaction is elicited from the organism even without the presence of the original stimulus. The Pavlov dog salivated with every sight of food as the original stimulus for the salivation. When a neutral stimulus was introduced like a bell that was rang each time before it was fed, the dog started salivating at the ringing of the bell even before the food was availed. Positive and negative reinforcement Introduction of the negative reinforcement to construe behavior entails removal of an unfavorable events or outcomes after the display of a behavior. A response is strengthened by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hiroshima Essay examples Hiroshima The stories and events that unfold in John Hersey s, Hiroshima, have certainly been eye openers for me. As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the atomic bomb and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal level as these stories. Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s gruesome effects on human beings. As I mentioned before, this book was quite an eye opener for me because it has taught me just how deadly nuclear weapons can be not only on material properties, but on human beings, and why nuclear weapons must never again be used is such a way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first story of the book we hear is that of the Reverend Tanimoto. He is dropping off some goods at a friend s house for safekeeping some 3,500 yards, or two miles, away from the center of the explosion and that house crumbles to the ground from the force of the blast. That seems so amazing to me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away. It may be difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something two miles away, but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would be everything within a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level everything within 35 football fields! The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the blast was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger than a person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine having over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost unbelievable. The heat given off by the blast is just as astonishing a number as the pressure. There was evidence that clay tiles, whose melting point is thirteen times hotter than that of the boiling point of water, had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Black Lives Matter Controversy In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to realize the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming legal in 2015 and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have caused a form of division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed some light on the inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The BLM website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+ organizations that have come together with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and agenda. Although many people view them as a great step toward furthering equality amongst all people, there is a select group of people who disagree. The Black Lives matter website also states that their common vision is to continue to move towards a world in which the full humanity and dignity of all people is recognized. While doing this, BLM also intends to include other groups of people who experience oppression. Such as the LBGTQ community, women, Muslims, people who were previously or currently undocumented and much more. • 7. Rebecca Nurse Quotes Let you fear nothing! Another judgement waits us all! This profound exclamation is made by the immensely wise and reputable Rebecca Nurse. Rebecca is a well known elderly woman in Salem, Massachusetts. Rebecca Nurse and I closely resemble one another in that we are both exceptionally nurturing with children, devout in our beliefs, and humble towards our accomplishments. Firstly, Rebecca Nurse and I are similar because of our nurturing capabilities towards infants and children. In the play The Crucible, it is revealed that Rebecca is the mother of eleven children who have blessed her with 26 grandchildren. The fact that Rebecca conceived and gave birth to eleven healthy babies reveals that she is well suited for motherhood. The fact that she raised all of these children up to be adults, and eventually parents, proves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, I also value any time alone to talk to God, in addition to weekly church services and youth group. Throughout Salem, Rebecca s reputation is that she is a very religious woman. Similarly, I am seen as a very religious girl at Hempfield. Coming from a Catholic school, I entered Hempfield with the label of being a Catholic school girl . Like Rebecca, I enjoy being known for living for Christ. Rebecca goes over and above for her religion by taking her relationship with God outside of the church. • 8. The Golden State California, nicknamed the Golden State, has attracted many an immigrant through the years. From the migrations of peoples thousands of years ago that led to the establishment of the many Native American tribes that populated the land, to the Spanish and Americans in later centuries, one wonders what attracted all to the farthest frontier, the unsettled west coast. That is until you delve deeper into what the land had to offer as an economic source. The year 1769 saw Gaspar de Portola and Father Saint Junípero Serra leading the first permanent European settlers to California. Before the end of the century, missions were established along the coast and towns were established, especially Los Angeles in 1781. The establishment of missions and towns began economic growth based on agricultural production and Native American labor that would soon lead to cities, ranches and local owners under Mexican occupation taking the same advantage to produce locally until the United States brought a wave of new settlement and industrial ideas that would sweep local trade and production into a new era of transcontinental economic growth, transportation and financial gains. In 1542, Juan Cabrillo made his way up what the coast of what the Spanish called Alta California from the newly conquered Spanish province of Mexico in search of gold, but he only found Native Americans living on land that consisted of thousands of square miles of fertile valleys, high mountains, freshwater lakes, and ... • 9. Examples Of Memory In Gurdjieff Further, he warns that it is a long and arduous struggle. There is no short cut as regards efforts or as regards shortening of time. One has to go through the grind, through the disciple, through the work . Self remembering of Gurdjieff As already mentioned, Self remembering of Gurdjieff is what we have been talking about in the thesis as Awareness. According to him, Self remembering (or self observation), is an artificial division of attention within oneself. A part of consciousness is weaned back, which is nothing but adopting the witnessing aspect. One part of our consciousness is engaged in the activity, physical or mental, while another part is watching this part thus functioning. Whenever our consciousness identifies itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gurdjieff brings about beautifully the distinction between Knowledge and Being. While we are developing on the knowledge front, we are acutely lagging behind on the Being front. Progress along the line of being entailed our struggling with our weaknesses the chief weakness being the weakness of waking sleep . Man s development should move equally parallel along the lines of knowledge and Being. Unfortunately, it is knowledge which is overemphasized at the cost of being (his essence; all that a man stood for). Man s knowledge depended upon his being. Man s being is different from that of the stone, plant and animal. But even among human beings, there are great distances between beings of human beings, one from the other. Knowledge and Understanding: Gurdjieff differentiated between knowledge and understanding in that knowledge was fragmentary, while understanding was unifying. Understanding was the outcome of a certain relationship between knowledge and being. Understanding happens when one realizes the relationship between knowledge and being. That is to say with understanding man gravitates towards his Being. Understanding thus is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Examples Of Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Maslow s Hierarchy of needs places the need to belong on the third tier; being a desire that must be met before completing the need of self actualization. Psychologist Abraham Maslow believed that it is necessary that someone is accepted by others and if that requirement is not met that person can not move on to be self fulfilled. Most individuals may meet their need of acceptance by conforming and dismissing characteristics that make them who they are. To fit in some people go along with things that they normally wouldn t: some people follow trends, fads, and popular opinions that they do not even cherish. This is when the need for acceptance becomes out of control and even though they are accepted by many those who change themselves to fit in may not meet the need of self actualization because they do not know who they really are. There s this old saying that asks, If everyone jumps off of a cliff, would you also . This meant that even though everyone is doing something doesn t mean its right and that just because everyone is doing something doesn t mean it s right for you. There are many examples of people who resisted their need to be accepted and loved to stand for what they believe in; some examples being Ruby Bridges, Equality 7 2521, and Jesus Christ. Some people believe that Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist automatically means he s a Captain of Industry. However Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron, and was wealthy for that exact reason. However, this is inaccurate because he had treated his workers like they were nothing, even putting them into the situation of dangerous conditions. There are many more characteristics to a Captain of Industry but robbing companies, and putting your workers in dangerous conditions is not one of them. Yes, the men call this the deathtrap he repeated my guide; ... they wipe a man out here every little while.... Sometimes a chain breaks, and a ladle tip over; and the iron explodes like that.... Sometimes the slag falls on the workmen from the roadway up there (Page 357). He doesn t help his workers enough with the wages and dangerous conditions. His workers not being the only evidence of him not being a captain of industry. A man watches out, why, all right! But you take it after they ve been on duty for twelve hours without sleep, and running like hell, everybody tired and logy and it s a different story (Page 357). Andrew Carnegie was someone who put his workers in the kind of danger that any day one of the workers can get trampled or killed by one of the machines especially since they are tired from working long hours. Alan received a taste of the music life from the start, his mother, Judy Menken, was a young actress/playwright and his father, Norman Menken, DDS, was a piano playing dentist (Biography Comments 1). His whole family loved Broadway musicals and they spent many nights together just listening to his father play piano, Alan once said, I showed an interest in piano at a very young age, but I hated to practice, so when my parents left the room I d make up my own version of the piece. This essay seeks to analyze the origins and significance of diversity within the taxonomic group of Lagormorpha, both within species and between species. Origin of diversity within species Inbreeding depression occurs when species inbreed to a point where the overall fitness of the species decreases significantly. Slate and Pemberton studied how reduced heterozygosity affected the sperm and gonads of wild rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) across the United Kingdom; they considered 112 individuals as well as populations (2006). The study found an important relationship: with a reduced heterozygosity, the production of normal sperm was also reduced (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). It is important to note; the relationship s effect was found amongst individuals not entire populations (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). To compile this data, the scientists measured degrees of inbreeding with a molecular measure, using 29 microsatellite loci for each individual male rabbit (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). This loci region is known to have a relationship with the genes coding for inbreeding depression, although why is not completely understood (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky. Exactly, said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, I still haven t filled up my second stomach yet, earning a grin from gray haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter. Carrol smiled and replied, We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I m so excited. We haven t seen her in so long. She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and slowly made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the small chatter of Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard Ben invite her into the kitchen in his deep gruff voice. There stood rosy cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses. He carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud green coat. Mom, it s so great to see you! exclaimed Alice. Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this? Carrol said, looking back at the boy. Oh, said Alice in her cheerful voice, This is Ethan. Currently, China requires animal testing for cosmetic products. As such, Burt s Bees cannot sell in the Chinese market, unless they changed their philosophy and tested their products on animals. Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. • 22. Coal Seam Gas Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground. This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams (Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams, bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of Queensland gas use. Almost every farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG extraction using underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks groundwater contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to the surface as well, in a quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are several types of water contamination that are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals through the fracking processes, which will go underground and can travel to nearby water systems that are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). Another is through chemicals that naturally exist in coal seams being taken out of the coal seams and exposed to other the various water systems nearby. Some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Generally, all Jains seek to follow the first three vows as much as possible; those who enter the monastic order keep all five (Lewis, 2009, p. 126). When these pillars are applied it opens the door for the release from the cycle of birth, life, and death, which is the goal of Jainism. Without keeping all five of these pillars it is believed that this cycle cannot be broken. Daily Routine of a Jain Monk Jain Monks start their day homeless, naked, and without owning any possessions. The Jain sect called the Svetambara (literally, the white clad ) does not observe nudity in their daily worship and wear white robes; the second sect, called the Digambara (literally, the sky clad ) which observe total nudity in the devotion to the religion (Lewis, 2009, pp. 126 127). Then, the monk finds an open patch of earth without any insects, and performs a form of personal hygiene, which consists of washing his head and feet, while taking a complete bath is not permissible. After this, the monk returns to the monastic chamber where he studies the sacred texts of Jainism. He sits in meditation to identify his faults such as negligence in behavior towards living creatures (Jain Ascetism, para. 4). Then he proceeds to the nearby temple to pay devotions to the jina (one who has conquered the worldly passions by one s own strenuous efforts) (Sangave, 2006). The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego, Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002 film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the film. Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character. Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. Perhaps their trust and loyalty may be most evident when, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Narrative Structure Of Unforgiven Almost all movies have characteristics that categorize them in two or more genres. A great example of this being Unforgiven. The film s dark and cynical characters occasionally resemble that of a film noir while its overall narrative structure depicts itself as a classical western style film. While there is an argument to call Unforgiven a film noir, it is hard to deny the idea that the film is mainly a film of the western genre. The basis of this idea, mostly relies on the portrayal of the lead protagonist, and the end of the film. While it would be easy to use setting, lighting, camera angles, etc to manifest the idea, it would not do it justice. By using these narrative tropes, it becomes coherent that Unforgiven is just another well made film that uses the structure of a western to construct its plot. Clint Eastwood s character, William, is a perfect example of the western classic hero. For example, the character is unknown to both the viewer and to the society in the film. In The Structure of The Western Film, the author describes the second similarity found in a western film as The hero is a stranger to this society (41). One of the first scenes in Unforgiven shows William living in a small home accompanied by his kids far away from the rest of civilization. His dirtied appearance gives the audience the interpretation he is just an ordinary farmer trying to make a living and support his family. The novel is set during a World War. The tension and separation of races during a war seemed evident in Australia. As a multicultural country including Japanese and Aborigine population, conflicting attitudes towards these races had to be imminent. I entirely agree with the above statement due to the unequal treatment of the aborigines, tension between the Japanese population and characters such as Hart showing lack of trust over his lover Mitsy With a war against the Japanese was the trigger for racism in Australia. • 44. A Nation Of Laws For America July 4, 1776; Independence day, the day America became its own independent nation from the rule of King George III of Great Britain. With the new country, the Founding Fathers believed it to be best to have law governing the nation instead of man governing the nation. The Founding Fathers wanted a nation of laws due to their experiences with King George III and his unfair rulings. With this, though some people would disagree, it would create what the United States of America is today; a nation of law, protecting the people s civil freedoms. What exactly led the Founding Fathers to their idea of a nation of laws for America? In 1765, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was an act that was implemented in the American colonies that required most printed material to be taxed. The American colonies believed this to be unfair because they did not have a say in the taxation. After months of protesting, the act was vetoed, but a new act was implemented into the colonies in 1773. This act, the Tea Act, forced the colonists to purchase tea from one and only one company. These were the sparks that would soon start a revolution. This is the result of being ruled by man. Because of this, because the Founding Fathers did not want a repeat of what happened with Great Britain, because the Founding Fathers knew that there would be corruption if a nation is ruled by man, they chose America to be a nation to be ruled by law; a nation of laws. • 45. The Importance Of Chons In Egyptian mythology, Chons (alternately Khensu, Khons, Khonsu or Khonshu) is an ancient lunar deity, from before formal structure was given to a pantheon. His name reflects the fact that the Moon (referred to as Iah in Egyptian) travels across the night sky, for it means The Wanderer, and also had the titles Embracer, Pathfinder, and Defender, as he was thought to watch over night travelers. As the god of light in the night, Chons was invoked to protect against wild animals, increase male virility, and to aid with healing. It was said that when Chons caused the crescent moon to shine, women conceived, cattle became fertile, and all nostrils and every throat was filled with fresh air. Chons can also be understood to mean king s placenta, and consequently in early times, he was considered to slay the king s (i.e. the pharaoh s) enemies, and extract their innards for the king s use, metaphorically creating something resembling a placenta for the king. This bloodthirsty aspect leads him to be referred to, in such as the Pyramid texts, as the (one who) lives on hearts.
