In the 18th century scientists began studying electricity which led to many inventions in the 19th and 20th centuries, including those of Thomas Edison such as the electric light bulb. Electricity powers our modern world through electrical circuits which can be simple, series, or parallel and get energy from power stations to homes through cables and fuse boxes.

Thermal energy and light are different forms of energy that can be transferred and transformed. Thermal energy is the total kinetic energy of particles in an object and causes temperature, while light is a type of electromagnetic radiation. Thermal energy can be transferred through conduction, convection, or radiation between objects and drive processes like chemical reactions, phase changes, and expansion. Light can travel through transparent, translucent, or be blocked by opaque materials and is reflected by mirrors and refracted when changing mediums. When light is absorbed by an object, it is transformed into thermal energy.
