Feedback
A way that I received feedback since my pitch was a witness
statement from the ‘publisher’, which helped me to see if I
included the right content. It also helped me to see what went
well with my pitch and what I could improve for if I was to pitch
again.
The main things that I needed to improve with my pitch was the
delivery of the content, this included the presentation of the Prezi
and the lack of eye contact. I have made the improvements
needed to the Prezi to make it suitable if I was to pitch again.
Another way I received feedback about my pitch was I sent out a survey to all the people
in the room, this helped me to see my weaknesses and strengths of the pitch. It also
helped me to view different opinions, helping me to see a broad perspective. In my
survey I asked people to rate the pitch, if they understood the content etc. This helped
me to see if I would need to make any new improvements to my pitch.
Finally another method of feedback I have received is a video interview with the publisher, this
helped me to discuss the pitch and feedback from the witness statement with him. In the
interview I asked him to explain the points that he made in more depth as well as what he
believed was the strengths and weaknesses of the pitch. By doing this it has helped me to see the
points that have been made in my previous feedback in more depth and receive explanations.
Overall from receiving my feedback I have been able to make the improvements to the Prezi from my pitch to make sure that ifI was to pitch
again, the presentation would be better. Some of the improvements that I have made is adding a zoom feature so that I can make sure that
everyone in the room can see all the content clearer. I also changed the format of the slides so the text was clearer for everyone to see as
some people struggled to read it properly.
Production Plan
This is my production plan, I have included details such as the due date for each task and which part this section is in the production process.
Other details that are included in this production plan is the equipment needed for the day, as well as the personnel that will be needed on the
day. This helps me to make sure that the production process is always as clear and effective as possible. By doing this it means that there is never
any time wasted whilst producing the magazine.
During the production process I have included the production plan in each equipment list, this helps me to make sure that my employees are
always fully aware of what they need to do that day. Additionally by having a personnel list it helps to make sure that there are only the
employees that are needed on the day, helping to save on salary costs and keeping health and safety to its highest possible quality.
Legal and Ethical Issues
Before making my magazine I looked at the legal and ethical issues that
my magazine needed to know about before being published. This
helped me to make sure that all the content within my magazine
reaches the regulations made by the PCC.
The legal and ethical issues I looked at was copyright, the Editors Code,
Intellectual property and safe working practises. By researching these I
have been able to make sure that the production of my magazine is safe
for everyone involved, whilst also making sure not to offend or break
any regulations with the content produced.
Legal and Ethical Issues
Legal and Ethical Issues- Magazine case study
Heat magazine 11-17th February 2012
The magazine dedicated the front cover and a double page spread on a article about Richard Rawson (“Fazer”). The article headlined “Fazer told
me he didn’t have a girlfriend – then we kissed” claimed that the rapper had “cheated” on his girlfriend with the girl interviewed. The magazine
breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors’ Code Of Practise, as Richard Rawson complained that ‘the magazine should have approached his
representative for comment before publication, rather than informing of the claims only after the edition had gone to print.’
The magazine said that it did not approach for comment because it was confident that the story was accurate and true, it provided a signed
consent by the woman and a witness statement from a journalise who had taken the photos for the story, who had confirmed he witnessed the
alleged kiss.
The Commission came to the conclusion the matter came under the terms of Clause 1 of the Editors’ Code of Practise, this states that “the press
must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information…” It said the magazine were unable to provide solid evidence of
the kiss, such as a photo. The Head of Complaints and Pre- publication Services said:
“Although the Code does not impose specific requirement of ‘prior notification', seeking comment from the subject of a story before publication
may be a necessary step to ensure the accuracy of any resulting coverage. While the Commission was not able to reconcile conflicting claims from
witnesses about what had happened at the club, it decided that in the full context - which included the nature of the claims and the prominence
with which they were trailed to readers - the magazine's decision not to seek comment from the complainant's representative about the incident
before publication breached the terms of Clause 1."
The complainant also stated that the magazine had breached the Editors’ Code under Clause 3 (Privacy) from publishing the photos of the
subject and the woman dancing. The Commission noted that the night was indeed a ‘press night’ so this complaint was not withheld.
LO5- Conclusion
This learning outcome I used feedback gained to inform the development and planning of an original
magazine. The feedback that I gained was from the witness statement, a survey and finally the interview
with the publisher. Once looking at the feedback I started to make the improvements to the content on my
Prezi and the research I conducted.
The first thing I did was collect all my feedback together and look to see if there was any reoccurring
improvements recommended. I then came to the conclusion of the improvements that I was going to make
to my pitch and content.
For this section I added more details to my production process, this included which section that the specific
day was in the production process, e.g. pre-production, production, post- production. I also added more
details such as the equipment I needed in each specific stage and which personnel was needed. This helped
to make the production process as effective as possible.
When looking at the legal and ethical issues I looked at many different issues that the magazine could come
across, this ranged from copyright to safe working practises. When researching the legal and ethical issues I
looked at two different types of case studies as this helped me to be able to understand the issues even
further. This is because I could then fully understand the issue caused by breaching the editors code for the
magazine, whilst also understanding the risk to the subject. Researching the legal and ethical issues related
to making a magazine before distributing the magazine to the public.

  • 3. Feedback A way that I received feedback since my pitch was a witness statement from the ‘publisher’, which helped me to see if I included the right content. It also helped me to see what went well with my pitch and what I could improve for if I was to pitch again. The main things that I needed to improve with my pitch was the delivery of the content, this included the presentation of the Prezi and the lack of eye contact. I have made the improvements needed to the Prezi to make it suitable if I was to pitch again. Another way I received feedback about my pitch was I sent out a survey to all the people in the room, this helped me to see my weaknesses and strengths of the pitch. It also helped me to view different opinions, helping me to see a broad perspective. In my survey I asked people to rate the pitch, if they understood the content etc. This helped me to see if I would need to make any new improvements to my pitch. Finally another method of feedback I have received is a video interview with the publisher, this helped me to discuss the pitch and feedback from the witness statement with him. In the interview I asked him to explain the points that he made in more depth as well as what he believed was the strengths and weaknesses of the pitch. By doing this it has helped me to see the points that have been made in my previous feedback in more depth and receive explanations. Overall from receiving my feedback I have been able to make the improvements to the Prezi from my pitch to make sure that ifI was to pitch again, the presentation would be better. Some of the improvements that I have made is adding a zoom feature so that I can make sure that everyone in the room can see all the content clearer. I also changed the format of the slides so the text was clearer for everyone to see as some people struggled to read it properly.
  • 4. Production Plan This is my production plan, I have included details such as the due date for each task and which part this section is in the production process. Other details that are included in this production plan is the equipment needed for the day, as well as the personnel that will be needed on the day. This helps me to make sure that the production process is always as clear and effective as possible. By doing this it means that there is never any time wasted whilst producing the magazine. During the production process I have included the production plan in each equipment list, this helps me to make sure that my employees are always fully aware of what they need to do that day. Additionally by having a personnel list it helps to make sure that there are only the employees that are needed on the day, helping to save on salary costs and keeping health and safety to its highest possible quality.
  • 5. Legal and Ethical Issues Before making my magazine I looked at the legal and ethical issues that my magazine needed to know about before being published. This helped me to make sure that all the content within my magazine reaches the regulations made by the PCC. The legal and ethical issues I looked at was copyright, the Editors Code, Intellectual property and safe working practises. By researching these I have been able to make sure that the production of my magazine is safe for everyone involved, whilst also making sure not to offend or break any regulations with the content produced.
  • 7. Legal and Ethical Issues- Magazine case study Heat magazine 11-17th February 2012 The magazine dedicated the front cover and a double page spread on a article about Richard Rawson (“Fazer”). The article headlined “Fazer told me he didn’t have a girlfriend – then we kissed” claimed that the rapper had “cheated” on his girlfriend with the girl interviewed. The magazine breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors’ Code Of Practise, as Richard Rawson complained that ‘the magazine should have approached his representative for comment before publication, rather than informing of the claims only after the edition had gone to print.’ The magazine said that it did not approach for comment because it was confident that the story was accurate and true, it provided a signed consent by the woman and a witness statement from a journalise who had taken the photos for the story, who had confirmed he witnessed the alleged kiss. The Commission came to the conclusion the matter came under the terms of Clause 1 of the Editors’ Code of Practise, this states that “the press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information…” It said the magazine were unable to provide solid evidence of the kiss, such as a photo. The Head of Complaints and Pre- publication Services said: “Although the Code does not impose specific requirement of ‘prior notification', seeking comment from the subject of a story before publication may be a necessary step to ensure the accuracy of any resulting coverage. While the Commission was not able to reconcile conflicting claims from witnesses about what had happened at the club, it decided that in the full context - which included the nature of the claims and the prominence with which they were trailed to readers - the magazine's decision not to seek comment from the complainant's representative about the incident before publication breached the terms of Clause 1." The complainant also stated that the magazine had breached the Editors’ Code under Clause 3 (Privacy) from publishing the photos of the subject and the woman dancing. The Commission noted that the night was indeed a ‘press night’ so this complaint was not withheld.
  • 8. LO5- Conclusion This learning outcome I used feedback gained to inform the development and planning of an original magazine. The feedback that I gained was from the witness statement, a survey and finally the interview with the publisher. Once looking at the feedback I started to make the improvements to the content on my Prezi and the research I conducted. The first thing I did was collect all my feedback together and look to see if there was any reoccurring improvements recommended. I then came to the conclusion of the improvements that I was going to make to my pitch and content. For this section I added more details to my production process, this included which section that the specific day was in the production process, e.g. pre-production, production, post- production. I also added more details such as the equipment I needed in each specific stage and which personnel was needed. This helped to make the production process as effective as possible. When looking at the legal and ethical issues I looked at many different issues that the magazine could come across, this ranged from copyright to safe working practises. When researching the legal and ethical issues I looked at two different types of case studies as this helped me to be able to understand the issues even further. This is because I could then fully understand the issue caused by breaching the editors code for the magazine, whilst also understanding the risk to the subject. Researching the legal and ethical issues related to making a magazine before distributing the magazine to the public.
