3. What have you learned
from your audience
feedback
In order for me to find out how well
I achieved my goals in my creation of
my local newspaper I set out to gain
audience feedback on my work. I did
this because I wanted to know if I
had done enough to make my
newspaper appealing for the people
that I am aiming my newspaper at.
The main way that I managed to get my
audience feedback was by using a social
networking site, Facebook. On Facebook I set
up firstly a group for feedback on my work
and secondly an official page for my paper,
I found this was a very successful way for me
to get involved with the audience and them
getting involved with my local newspaper.
Feedback
From looking at the feedback that
I received from Facebook, the
comments helped me gain a
much better understanding of
what the audience were
demanding and what they
thought of the newspaper after I
had made the adjustments. The
main thoughts that came back to
me were about the front cover.
The feedback for this was mainly
positive but some people said that
they would have wanted another
small story on the front cover, so I
incorporated this by adding a
charity event story.
Facebook Feedback
Other comments from people were that they
liked my masthead and thought that it was
done in a similar style to other newspapers
and they particularly liked the bird icon I
used. The stories on the inside page
interested the audience as well and would
have made them want to carry on reading
the paper. A majority of the audience that
were asked liked the advertisements
throughout my newspaper and said that it
looked like real advertisements. However,
some said that there was too many adverts,
but I didn’t change this because from my
own research of newspapers, they all had ¾
adverts on the front page. Finally, from
looking at all the work that I produced
nearly all of the people said they would visit
the website to get more Daily Appeal news.
The audience feedback did play a part in the way that I
set about creating my local newspaper, it also changed
my approach to my work as well. I tried to incorporate
the comments that I got from the audience as much as
I could as these people are from the area that my
newspaper is targeting. A couple of examples of when I
took on board the audience feedback was firstly the
addition of the small story to my cover page.
